Great food and service

By Crystal M |

Very helpful on explaining the process of ordering. Samples of everything. The meat melted in your mouth! We had prime rib and turkey plus lots of sides

Worth a try

By Bird |

Rudy’s was recommended by several locals, so we tried it. We were put off initially by its location…next to a gas station. Ordering was confusing as several staff members waited on our order. We opted for the sausage, brisket and ribs. It was good except for the brisket which was dry and lacked flavor. The delicious bbq sauce at our table saved the meal as we doused the brisket with it We also raised our eyebrows at the cost. Still, I’m glad we went and saw what the hype was about.

Great plate of BBQ...

By Debbie O |

Easily accessible right off HWY 51 and by SeaWorld. Rudy's is a tradition you can't miss, pull up, smell the smoke and order a good plate of BBQ consisting of brisket, smoked turkey or sausage links with sides of beans, cole slaw, creamed corn, potatoe salad and fresh soft bread with a side of pickles, onions & sause. Can't go wrong here, it's all good. You can order take out, eat inside or on their patio if it's a nice day - ENJOY!

Way overpriced!

By Sandi M |

This food is average, but is very expensive! We spent almost $50 to feed a family of 3, and the brisket was dry!

Not worth it to stop for.

By Z6441ZImariap |

Not a cheap eat for the poor food you get. Tough tasteless meat thrown on white bread. Site dishes are not included, also tasting like out of a can. Last time I visited.

Disappointed

By Mama_Clark_KC |

First the gas station charged $3 for a medium iced tea or soda. That’s just crazy! Then we got Rudy’s to go. As KCBS Master Certified BBQ judges the pork ribs would score a 4. They were so tough I couldn’t bite off the meat. The brisket would have scored a 5 because it was way too tough. They were out of cheesy corn. What is up!!! They are supposed to be so awesome!!!

Best BBQ Sauce

By SHAWNA B |

seriously this place is the best and they will ship the sauce to you all over the country by ordering online!

Fabulous lunch

By DontTreadOnMeToo |

We had the brisket, creamed corn, & potatoe salad and it was outstanding. The food was fresh and extremely tasty. We would highly recommend them to all.

After several recommendations....disappointed.

When I found out I was going to Texas, I was excited to try the Bar-B-Q there. I made sure to ask the locals where I should go and 80% of them said Rudy's. They said go to the original one, so I did. I drove over an hour to get there. The ambiance was just as I expected. Cement block building, open pit, and brown paper plates. When got the actual brisket, I was very underwhelmed. Very little flavor at all. The cut was not very good either. I was told I had to try the cream corn, which I normally love, but this was 90% cream and 10% corn, just not appetizing to me. I also got the peach cobbler, which was recommended to me. It was ice cold in a pre-packaged bowl. All in all it was not terrible, but average at best. I would find a different place if you want good bar-b-q.

Delicious and tender brisket

By David W |

Delicious and tender brisket with great bark and smoky flavor. I picked up a jar of their rub to use back East. The baby back ribs were good — great seasoning, but mine were a bit chewier than ideal. I’ve gotta say that the creamed corn was a revelation! I immediately wanted more.

Expected More

By Playsureful |

Smell was great and area unique. They offer brisket with 2 choices, wet/w/fat or lean/dry...I picked the lean/dry, it was very dry, it was so dry the Rudys BBQ sauce didnt help moisten it :(, Good part, the Cream Corn was divine. We enjoyed the outside picnic area since it was 80' on Feb 1st.

Nice Dinner

By Ron L |

We met friends here for dinner and the food was good. Very casual atmosphere. Would recommend going to this restaurant.

World Class BBQ, Hands-Down...

By Stephen A |

Rudy’s is on our list every time we’re in San Antonio. We visit the location on Hwy 151. We had the sausage, the brisket, beans, potato salad and peach cobbler. Served up on the traditional butcher paper with a hefty side order of white bread. Huge bottles of Rudy’s BBQ was handy and dig-in is what we did. And bring some home for later is also what we did. Sitting by the oak-fired hearths, the warmth and smoke smell was a side order of atmosphere. Alll washed down with Lone Star (Shiner Bock was not available,) and Root Beers. We will be back!

Brisket Baby

By Roanoketraveler888 |

It has been a forty five year tradition to stop here, directly from the airport, when we come home to Texas to visit the family. The brisket and sausage did not disappoint. But the turkey and the service was a bit dry. Well it is hard to find good help anymore and sometimes meat just gets over cooked. I am not bothered as I was the one who had brisket and sausage.

Great BBQ

By Thomas F |

This place has to be one of the best BBQ that I ever had. Went with 5 people, had Brisket, Chicken, Ribs and Chopped. Everything out of this world. Also for the sides you have to try the cream of corn, it's unbelievable. Also the staff is great and very friendly

Best Dang BBQ in Texas!!!

By Donald M |

This is the second trip to San Antonio, Texas and my second time eating at Rudy's BBQ. Their food is top quality, well prepared and very well priced. In fact this place is so dang good, all of the local LEO's take their dinner breaks there (and not they don't get it free). Even picked up some of their special Rudy's Rub to take home with me.

Stop for an excellent quick meal before going into Seaworld

By SunriseRacine |

Lovely surprise to find this gas station, outside of the Seaworld, with a store, plus BBQ restaurant. Must be a popular place as there is a long line waiting to order the food. The line went very fast though. While waiting, was offered to taste corn soup. Highly recommend the juicy brisket, with their special source. Very tasty. The price is so reasonable, $20 per two people. It is an excellent stop for a quick meal before visit the Seaworld.

BBQ sauce was different than any I've eaten before

By strangenurse |

They advertise themselves as having the "worst barbeque in Texas." Our food was good and you can order it in a variety of quantities. The sauce was different than any I have eaten before.

Eat here when I am in San Antonio

By BobnSusanfromPA |

Not much to look at but boy is the food good. This location is also very close to the Hilton Resort I stay at so another plus. The employees are pleasant and the outside seating is comfortable weather permitting. If it is a little chilly sit near the fire. Plan on eating there tonight.

Best barbeque

By Anthony M |

A must go barbeque place if your visiting, sausage links, creamed corn' and chopped beef are my favorite

Westover getting to expensive for the food

By Ambassador82973 |

I paid $41.00 for 1 person at Rudy's BBQ. Six baby back ribs (1 Pound) cost $19.99, 1/2 order of turkey. $9.99, beans and peach cobbler total cost $41.09. You are better off going to Willies getting a half slab of ribs and 2 sides for $13.00. Not to many customers were there and probably because they are so expensive. Will not be going back any time soon. You cannot call in the order, you have to wait in line forever.

Rudy's Is Amazing BBQ. You NEED to Go

By 225thomasv |

I go to San Antonio every year and without fair I make sure to hit Rudy's for lunch. Lines are always long but the service is quick and efficient. Plenty of parking. The issue is none of it is covered and the heat when you get back in the car is brutal. They have seating indoors or outside. I usually eat inside because the heat is so intense even though seating is covered. Inside is air conditioned. They have troughs filled with ice that hold beer and soda that you can grab as you move along the line to order your food. Naturally you need to pay for these items when you get to the server. The moist brisket has a great crunchy bark with tender meat that melts in your mouth. I easily eat 1/2lb. The sausage is incredible. It has a "snap" every time you bite it. The flavor is not over spicy but enough where the taste makes your mouth water. I've had the turkey as well and that is also delicious. The have many sides. I've always ordered the Cole slaw which is always crispy and flavorful. The cream corn is also delicious. For dessert its the peach cobbler for sure. They offer you bread if you want it but I never take it. Its all served in a plastic tray on wax paper. You can get a paper plate if you choose or eat of the paper with the plastic utensils you'll pick up after you get your food. Fountain drinks with free refills are located inside. They have a gas station right there if you happen to need gas and a gift shop to pick up souviners as well. It's pretty loud inside while you're eating so don't expect a nice quiet meal but the food is worth the noise.I would recommend picking up the rub and the meat sauce to take home. They are great to use on foods you can make at home as well as to use while you eat there. Enjoy

Great BBQ and sides...oh, and the smell of smokey bbq made it even better.

Wonderful bbq and atmosphere. Had a great meal. Love coming back time after time for terrific meal. Thought we bought too much food, but even the 6 year old twins kept eating and eating. Stuffed. Satisfied.

Best Ribs Ever!

By 776carolp |

Stopped in for dinner at the recommendation of our hotel staff. What an incredible bbq experience this was! We had the brisket and baby back ribs, creamed corn, beans, and coleslaw. The brisket was very good; the beans and coleslaw were good bbq fare. But the ribs were the best either of us have ever eaten, and we eat a LOT of ribs as we travel. The creamed corn is an outstanding culinary experience too! The setting and service are casual. We liked it so well, we plan to go back before we leave town, and we recommend you give it a try!

Best BBQ in town

By Vincent M |

We were staying with family near Rudys, and within a week, we had been there three times. The BBQ Brisket was out of this world, and we had sides of potato salad and creamed corn. Within the week, we had tried all the meats, which were outstanding. Many places say they support veterans, but Rudy's is serious, offers veterans discounts, and will give a vet a full meal. My hat is off to Rudy's

Great BBQ

By PamRoad |

This is the original site of the Rudy's BBQ chain. There is nothing fancy here but the food is absolutely perfect! Best BBQ anywhere. Make sure you order the potato salad - it is just as good as any of their smoked meats.

Rudy's Humor

By DingoBB |

Attached to the restaurant, sharing the same seating space. Knick-knacks, with country humor and Texas style.

Great BBQ

By disfamof3 |

We just moved here and love BBQ! I don't like wet BBQ... and this was dry and perfect! I have never liked creamed corn but I have to say that I LOVED theirs. I know we will become regulars here. The service was great and the atmosphere was very enjoyable.

Omg!!!

By Suzie W |

Unbelievable bbq in the gas station! Quaint, casual and the best bbq in Texas! We tried the smoked turkey, ribs and brisket with cream corn, cole slaw, pickles and heavenly peach cobbler! You must go and feed four for under $40

The Creamed Corn…

By 321Gogogo |

Brisket: Smokey and flavorful ✔️ (would’ve liked it a little juicier) Chicken: Moist ✔️ Pork Ribs: Tender and tasty ✔️ Jalapeño sausage: Juicy and spicy. My favorite ✔️ Potato salad: Creamy with the right balance of flavors and texture ✔️ Beans: “The Standard”. Firm but tender and tasty ✔️ Creamed Corn: Hell yeah! The firm corn kernels surrounded by the sweet cream is a dish I wish we could get in our hometown. I wish I had room in my tummy to try the other sides and desserts. We will definitely return to Rudy’s if we revisit San Antonio.

Downhome BBQ done well

By Joel L |

Enjoyed this place very much. They really look for Service Members of the military. We ate lunch after Lackland BMT. It was not crowded and they have great parking. We purchased a family meal and got a variety of meats. All of what we had was well prepared. Sause was on the table so you could add as much or little as you wanted. Staff were very friendly. We really enjoyed the brisket and the creamed corn. The peach cobbler was also very good. The atmosphere is really down home.

The BEST Brsiket in TX

By Patrick W |

This is a wonderful, quant place for family dinner. Meat is ordered by weight and everything is served on paper. The BBQ brisket is out of this world. Try the cream corn, it is a specialty and outrageously good. Tables are outside under roof to complete a rustic dining experience. They offer a generous military discount and you will undoubtedly see some of our recent graduates from the nearby Air Force basic training. There is just nothing like it.

Underwhelmed

By Connie R |

This place was recommended by a local . It has a very limited menu was underwhelming, overpriced and totally disappointing. Ribs were tough and hard to get off the bone. The regular sauce is mostly pepper and not good flavor. We also got the chopped and it had poor cuts of meat in it. The cole slaw and potato salad were good. The peach cobbler was room temp at best and prepackaged so the crust was soggy. Do not recommend this place at all.

Always The Best!!

By Jonathan A |

The brisket is moist and the sausage is that great Polish sausage found in South Texas. My wife doesn't like creamy and doesn't like corn so it says volumes that she likes their cream corn! The sauce is truly made in house. The ordering experience is unique and has been around since at least the 1980's. It has been copied many times over. You walk up, order your sides then your meat at the counter. They total it up and it's all in open butcher block paper in a 3 liter soda crate. You can pay outside ,(right there ) or inside for your drinks in the attached gas station. It's very important when you're getting your food order to get enough bread. You can ask for as much as you like, but add three slices.

Decent BBQ

By Jorge T |

Wife and I went expecting World Class BBQ but no, it is average food at best. Place was hot and noisy cause of all the shop fans they had going and not too mention all the flies in that place. I think will skip coming here but food still OK.

Best BBQ Beef Brisket Anywhere. BBQ Turkey is Damn Good, Too!

By TieTheKnotVideos |

I was in Texas for a business conference and went to Rudy's TWICE on consecutive days for dinner -- that's how good it was. The first time I was catching up with an old friend, and I had some BBQ ribs and coleslaw. The ribs were meaty, tender, and slathered with sauce that was just the right combination of spicy and BBQ-ey. The cole slaw wasn't too wet, or too sweet, or too vinegary. It was perfectly crunchy and seasoned. I highly recommend both. The second time I brought my co-worker. When I told the cashier that he'd never been to Rudy's before, she announced to the kitchen "Hey! We got a rookie over here!!" She then began to give him samples of various meats, which he ate right there in front of the cash register. His eyes rolled into the back of his head when he tasted the extra moist beef brisket. He ordered a 1/3 lb of it, then the same with the turkey and a basket of baby back BBQ ribs. I ordered the extra moist brisket, beans and stole a few of his ribs. The extra moist brisket was to die for. Unbelievable. The beans were as good as beans can be. And the ribs -- again, awesome. The restaurant was HUGE and very clean. Lots of picnic tables furnished with cloths and accoutrements. The soda station was huge, but there were no sugar-free, caffeine-free drinks there. Rats! I had to drink some diluted Sprite with water in order to avoid raising my blood sugar too much. The Diet Coke would've kept me up all night. This is a great place for a group dinner or a dinner with friends. It's loud, friendly, fast and best of all GOOD. Highly recommended when you're in Texas. There are several different Rudy's around the state. Try 'em all!

Love Rudy's

Nothing like having great BBQ at a gas station. Great food! My girls had never been, so it was fun to experience that with them.

Really bad

By plbacman |

Actually the new Nakoma location. Happy that some restrictions have been lifted and the door was open. Got inside and they still were not allowing any seating. Kinda creepy inside, the counter guy and meat cutter were kinda creepy too. Just got brisket and beans to go. Got back to office and started in. Beans were awful and beef had strange flavor. Was hungry so finished as much as I could. The bad taste seemed to come from what wood was used to cook the meat but couldn't seem to identify what wood would cause this taste. Best I could figure is they ran out of wood and started using dead cats to burn. It was that pungent.
