Noisy, boisterous place with good food

By Gabriel H |

We shared a very good dinner with friends from out of town. While it is in the middle of Post Oak Blvd., we had a hard time finding it: there are few signs and the ones that exist are hidden by trees. Eventually we stumbled on the right valet service in front of Uchiko, next door to Rumi's. This is a large restaurant, and the hard surfaces in all directions, as well as the sheer volume of people make it very loud. My SoundPrint app measured anywhere from 85 to 98 decibels the entire evening. As a result, despite sitting at a small table, we had a hard time understanding each otherwhile trying to converse. If anyone in your party is hard of hearing, this is not the place for you. The food was excellent! Most plates are to share, and share we did: Mirza Ghasemi, Falafel, Lahmacun Lamb, Lamb kabob, Makhloud and IC sandwich. These are variations on traditional Persian (Iranian) dishes and well worth tasting. The Duck Fesenjoon was tender, but came immersed in a thick, sweet sauce, reminiscent of Mexican mole. Let's say, this would be an acquired taste. We love duck in many forms, preparations and flavors, but this one didn't impress any of us. To our pleasant surprise, Rumi's has a creditable wine list and we did indeed anjoy glasses of Vouvray, Hasenhaide Rose, and a bottle of Crozes-Hermitge. Our server was somewhat disappointing: a bit pushy, impatient, and frequently absent for long periods, so we had to flag down other servers for help.

Amazing Dinner at Rumi Bar

By Azeemeh Z |

We sat at the bar at Rumi and the lead bartender, Jeremy was amazing. Although he was busy, he took the time to find a chair for us and ensured our drinks were served quickly. Our dining experience was amazing because of him. He took the time to ask us how we were and made sure we experienced first class service: highly recommend going to Rumi, sitting at the bar and asking for Jeremy.

Think this place has just moved to the top of the list

The ambience of this restaurant is fantastic, it would be hard to improve on the service, and the standard of the food is just a different level. We had a lamb dish and a fish dish, we also had cauliflower. Wow - if we used a scale of 0-1000 - everything got 1000. I honestly believe it would be impossible to improve the food in here - it is simply sensational…

No hot sauce!!!!!

By Ashok W |

Overall good experience. 0ne complaint. We asked the waiter for any hot sauce and he told us they did not have any hot sauce per say( which surprised us as how can any restaurant not have any kind of hot sauce) and the best he can offer us was Green Chutney!! I asked him if the Chutney was spicey and he confirmed it. So he bought a big bowl of chutney. Turned out to be a non spicey dip. Hardly spicey . I told the waiter who just shrugged it off. Entire bowl was left in the end. I also noticed they had charged us for the non spicey chutney. Least they could have done was to take the charge off.

Persian not so Persian

Nice restaurant decor, great location on post oak. Nice design, I really like the small patio. Feels very cozy. Ambiance is nice , music was too low and barely can hear, and genre doesn't fit the restaurant. I was not impressed with the food much. Complementary feta cheese plate is great, but the greens do not look fresh. Fatoush is not really how fatoush should be. Kashkbedmjan is mediocre. it could've been way much better. Dolmeh, cooking it with pomegranate and stuffing it with beef, took away the taste of the meat in general. It was too sour. Dolmeh is usually a vegetarian plate cooked in lemon and oil. Hummus needs more lemon juice. It tastes plain, no flavor. Main dishes are limited for selections. Plate is meant for more than 1 person, which comes like 5 Skewers, which doesn't give options. Maybe you should add more options to where you have plates that cater for 1 person. On 2nd visit , we ordered Falafel, shirazi salad, hummus, Koobideh and Eggplant aka Kashk batenjoon. It was great 👍 Restrooms are clean, and they have an excellent job on that. Our waitress Hasna was excellent on her service. Valet is complementary.

similar food to atlanta, less crisp service

By 0504Traveller |

we have been to Rumis many times in Atlanta so was curious to try it out in Houston. It took a while to get a reservation but we finally got one. the menu here was similar to the menu in Atlanta with a couple of more options. the quality of the food was the same and was good. the major difference was the layout as the Houston location was smaller and felt cramped; and the service was not as crisp as it is in Atlanta

For an upscale Iranian feast

By efustok |

Dear foodie readers…I’m constantly impressed with the new restaurants popping up in Houston, and this one is way up there…Rumi’s kitchen, named after the famous Iranian poet, is fantastic…I loved the simple and modern design of the place…with little touches here and there of middle eastern flair…our table was in the glass atrium, which was wonderful during the day…so bright with the gorgeous chandelier hanging above us. For my families, lots of children during the lunch hour…was really nice to see. Our server was excellent, and loved sharing her favorite things….everything we ate was delicious…first of all complimentary sabzi (cheese and veg), I love that an upscale restaurant doesn’t charge for every little thing, it’s refreshing honestly…we got the lamb flat bread along with the eggplant dip…both were incredible… full of flavor, my palette was very excited…I then had to stick with my gourmet sabzi…it went beyond my expectations…all the right spices and herbs combined to give it that rich aroma I love…my family had the meats, and each one was enjoying their choices…only thing if you don’t like cinnamon, you may not like the loubia rice…we wanted to order dessert, unfortunately there was no room in the happy belly left…next time

Outstanding Restaurant

Outstanding food and service. Beautiful restaurant. You can't go wrong here -- everything we had was delicious and made to perfection.

Inexperienced and show off owner.

Fifth time going to Rumi's and they started really well but service has gone down massively. Servers have good intentions but very inexperienced and the wait time to simply say hello is an average of 10 minutes. Food not bad but if service is so terrible, we won't go back. On top of that the owner is a show-off and tells everyone the same story of how rich he is. Lol

Nice lunch with the girls

They had great grilled seafood. Loved the roasted cauliflower, the hummus, the sea bass and salmon. Highly recommend!

Very interesting menu, great quality food and excellent service! A very enjoyable dinner all round. Recommend making a reservation though as it was very busy.
