Friends actually like this restaurant

By jsthouston |

I will start by saying that while I like a good steak I don't go out for a big steak dinner more than once a month if that. I am also not a big fan of this location but have a friend who loves the place and thinks it's the best in town. I will start by saying the service was very good and the sides excellent, the problem was the steak, over cooked. I guess it's partly my fault for not saying something but I don't like to complaint when I'm with a friend at his favorite steak place in town.

Very good dinner.

Myself, wife, and daughter dined at Ruth's Chris this past Sunday and they did not disappoint. I had lobster bisque as an appetizer and my wife had a salad and we both enjoyed what we had ordered. My daughter ordered the surf and turf and cleaned her plate. My wife and I split the 22 oz bone-in ribeye and it was cooked to perfection. We ordered the skinny french fries and I have to say these were the best french fries ever. Also notable was the sweet potato casserole. The only downside was the lobster mac and cheese. It was okay, but not great. Service was very good.

Nice steak, shame about the wine

By Azure55 |

No complaints on the food which was great. But is it normal out of 4 glasses of wine (by the glass) that 2 of them are corked? To be fair, they were changed without question. But it makes one wonder how the wines are managed that you can have such a variation in the same wine - 4 attempts to find 2 acceptable glasses of pinot noir should not be normal, Next time I will stick to water,

Would Give a 1 But they did get back to me

Below is an excerpt of the letter I sent to Ruth's Chris general Manager after a ruined Thanksgiving dinner. She did attempt to get back to me which is the only reason I gave them 3 stars rather than 1. "We are a family of four who moved to Houston only a few months ago. With no family in town, we decided to start a new tradition and celebrate at Ruth's Chris. We've eaten at the chain in other cities and had wonderful experiences. Unfortunately, our dinner was not so positive. We were seated promptly and appropriately, but it went downhill from there. Our server (an older gentleman with a Spanish or Italian sounding name) was virtually non-extant the entire meal. We watched as all the other tables around us received the outstanding service Ruth's Chris is known for while we sat entirely ignored with empty glasses. Over the entire 2 hour dinner we asked for water on 6 separate occasions. The first time it was nearly 15 minutes before our server brought out water in glasses that looked like they were from IHOP. No water goblets as are a standard place setting and we noted were being used by everyone around us-including a child. Later we would ask for re-fills and nothing came, we resorted to asking other servers for attention as ours spent much of his time chatting with one of the tables in the corner. We ordered the standard Thanksgiving dinner and appetizers were brought out promptly. The rest of the meal was not. While we know this is not fast food, we can not think of a reason for pre-plated turkey to take nearly an hour to arrive. And during this time, we were not offered drinks, water or bread re-fills or even checked on to see how we were enjoying our Ruth's Chris experience. I don't know if our server had some sort of an issue with us, was new, or was passive aggressively protesting working on the holiday; but we left feeling like we had been served by a teenager at an old diner. Our most unpleasant Thanksgiving ever. Next Thanksgiving we will celebrate at a different steakhouse such as Mortons as Ruth's Chris fell well below our expectations.

OUR FAVORITE STEAK RESTAURANT IN HOUSTON,TX.

By Hbonnee |

This review is based on our 1st three visits!! This is our favorite steak restaurant in Houston. We never had the opportunity to visit the old location off of Richmond Ave. Unfortunately, we can not compare the two locations to each other. We have eaten at this restaurant approx. 4 times. On our first three visits to Ruth's Chris we have nothing but positive things to say about them. We have always enjoyed our steak and lobster dinners. Their steaks are very well seasoned where they tastes as if they are marinated and not just seasoned with salt and pepper. Their french onion soup is too die for. We also enjoy their chocolate and dirty martinis, as well. The service on these three visits have always been great and the waiters/waitresses have been attentative. On our fourth visit on New's Year's Eve 2014, it was not so great. We were put in the room off to the right once you walk inside the restaurant. Like reviewer Bradley R. said the tables were placed too close to each other and everything felt cramped. I have never had to return my food and had to on this night. My steak was overcooked and tasted bland. The service was HORRIBLE and our waiter rarely checked us. I feel like they tried to accommodate too many people on this special occasion and SACRIFICED EVERYTHING. We will go back to Ruth's Chris and feel that New Year's Eve was just a bad day to go because our three other visits were great. Give them a try!

Terrible Experience

By Mark H |

Five long time friends went to dinner at Ruth’s Chris In Houston and the experience was terrible. It was a Sat night and it was OTC week but nothing went well. Couldn’t get a drink at the bar, the service was terrible, and the food was mixed. Told the manager and emailed him but never heard back. There are a lot better places in Houston to have a nice dinner and will not return.

Good place to visit for lunch or dinner in the galleria area

By Ciahasher |

Ruth's Chris is part of an upscale chain of steak restaurants but they serve other items besides steak. In fact, I had the salmon for lunch and it was excellent. Service here is very good. It needs to be as they have lots of competition in the area. If you are with a group, they have a room that can be used for private functions. My only issue is with the parking. They don't have any. You are either forced to use valet service or park next door in a hotel garage (not free) This is not a cheap place, but if you are looking for good food (especially steak) at a nice venue, this is a good choice

The Best Steak I have ever eaten (:

By Bullfrog1976 |

I went with my parents and had a great time . The menu is pretty good and typical for a steakhouse . I did enjoy myself as well as everyone else . I definitely would recommend it to others for special occasions.

Delicious steaks

By ems0911 |

Ruth's Chris continues to impress. After 7 - 8 visits now to different Ruth's Chris steakhouses around the US, I can always count on consistently delicious steaks. Their fillets are always tender and cooked precisely to order. If you are a steak lover and want the natural flavor of the beef to satisfy your pallet, be sure to tell them to hold the butter (save it for bread or a baked potato). While the price is on the high end, the quality of the cuts and the service are excellent.

Good place to have a family o romántic dinner

By Samanta L |

The food is delicious and the place is very pleasant as long as you are in the area near the bar or near the windows, I don't like the tables that are inside the room

Anniversary Dinner

By Andrea S |

We came here to experience a nice dinner for our anniversary. The service was horrible. In addition, when they brought our steaks out, no one follow up and we could not get the wait staff attention. My steak was burnt and my husband's medium steak was rare. He would not even eat it. The waitress said she would notify the manager, but we never saw him.

Petite filet and ribeye to die for!

By Houston N |

You can get a better steak than the petite filet and ribeye at Ruths Chris. Get extra butter and enjoy. Best Caesar salad and bread as well. Go go go!

Good location

By lisa b |

My husband and I has had the opportunity to visit another Ruth Chris prior to this so yes we did have somewhere else to somewhat compare. We shared the 16oz. Ribeye to us it was okay ( remembering our previous visit to a different Chris Ruth) And the Brussels sprouts were really hard. Great atmosphere oh yes was sad they had no draft beer. Oh well

Didn’t Meet Expectations

By KendraTravels |

I love Ruth’s Chris. I’ll even admit to going to one in several cities. I had a desire to go and was able to quickly get a reservation. I’ll start by saying the food was great as always. I enjoyed the Ruth Classic: filet and shrimp. The reason for the average rating is because our waitress didn’t quite get the order right. She was very nice and offered to fix it but it was a little too late. The ambiance was amazing. The fabric in the booth we sat in was also torn quite a bit and needs replacing. The manager was great and very helpful. I’ll give them another try but it will be a while.

Great food and great service!

By alaincU5606IK |

My wife and I had a great time enjoying a wonderful dinner at this place, thanks to Mercedes our wonderful server. She guided us trough the menu and her advice was a great help to us for wine and menu. We really appreciated her service during the whole course of the dinner and the great food served. Highly recommend this restaurant, and thanks Mercedes!

A must for any meat lover

By Aparke07 |

Was in Houston for a bachelor party. We decided to have a steak and made reservations at Ruth's We were not disappointed as they my group of 6 friends to a private wine room above the restaurant. I felt like Don Corleone with my Woodford Reserve and rib eye steak. Everyone was impressed. A must while in Houston.

Horrible

By VALwillis |

We had a horrible experience here unfortunately. My husband and I decided to spend our Christmas Eve at this establishment and were appalled by the amount of disrespect and utter indecency displayed by the staff here. We were lied to by the manager of all people. We had reservations for 8pm showed up at 7:50 and waited 25 min to be sat. While waiting we observed other customers arrive later than us without reservations and be sat before us. When we spoke to the hostess she attempted to lie and say that the customers whom we witnessed drive up and walk in and be sat before us was waiting since 6:30pm. So we attempted to speak to the manager and he lied as well and told a completely different story. I highly advise that if you are established individuals of color or ethnic origin to stay away from this establishment. They seemed to be inherently incapable of treating us with respect and dignity. Ultimately we ended up eating at Del Frisco's and we enjoyed ourselves at a much better establishment.

Excellent

By FHdz |

Business followed by visits with my spouse and family. Delicious! Excellent, attentive service. My spouse & I have gone several times. Great job.

Excellent Food and Service

By Casey Lynn |

The food is always excellent and they did not disappoint at all. The service was great, very friendly and attentive waiters. Only downside, We sat next to the bar and I could hear the bartender cussing and telling jokes. I really didn't like that or want my family to hear that either. Also, we noticed other people were dressed very sloppy, in shorts, halter tops and flip flops. I would prefer they keep up with the dress code and turn people away who look as if they just rolled out of bed - as one person was brushing her hair at the dinner table.

Excellent steak

By Laurens R |

We had pork chops and a filet mignon with some spinach and shoestring fries. The fries got cold a little too soon but otherwise a good meal.

Great visit

By Mark B |

My wife and I visited Ruth’s Chris Steak House on a Friday evening to celebrate our wedding anniversary. The plan was to make a dinner reservation for this night, but it was accidentally made for another night. Rather than wait for an hour for an opening, we decided to eat in the bar area and were seated almost immediately. We felt that the service was very good, and we just loved our meal. Plus, the cheesecake was wonderful. The only negative that comes to mind was that the Big Easy Hurricane was so-so.

Just...Awesome

By Brian M |

My wife and I dined here on our anniversary. It was just a wonderful experience. Both of our steaks were cooked perfectly to our orders and I could eat their creamed spinach every day of my life. Service was exceptional. There was a bit of a wait for our table, despite our reservation and despite the fact the restaurant was not very busy that evening. It didn't detract from the experience and I mention it only as a caveat to impatient people.

Ok food but not worth the price.

By april s |

Our family of four ate here. We knew it was expensive but had read that a "Happy Hour" menu is available before 7 pm. We thought our kids would eat off of it. This menu is not available in the restaurant. When I asked the server he said he didn't know anything about it but it may be available in the bar area. My two boys & I shared one of the entrees with the Lobster tail added for additional $17. I ate the Steakhouse salad, the corn, and strawberry shortcake. It was all good but nothing extradiornary. My youngest son (10) ate the lobster tail & french fries. He enjoyed both of these. My oldest son (13) ate the grilled shrimp (3 on platter) & a few bites of the filet. He really liked the shrimp. My husband had a ribeye & french fries. He said it was good but other steakhouses are better & not as costly. They do have a dress code & it is posted. They do not allow men to wear caps. Best bet for parking is to valet park. There is no Valet parking fee, tips only.

Disappointing

By Woodstock1968 |

I had never been to a Ruth Chris steak house - at least not that I can remember so when my client suggested it, I was looking forward to it. We were there by 6 pm so we should have had the full attention of the servers but instead we must have gotten a new crew in training since we were asked for drinks and other items more than once. We showed some displeasure and the service improved. As to the menu, I got the Petite Filet Blue Cheese which was not as tender and tasty as I would have expected for a $45 piece of meat. My three guests seemed happy with their meals - another filet, crab cakes, and salmon. We didn't have any alcohol and had a couple sides which were good but just overpriced. We also had a couple dessert items. Our total for four was $228.41 before tip.

my Bday with my Sissy

By Ladyc_66 |

My Sissy set up an wonderful surprise Bday dinner for me at this Amazing Restaurant, I had the Steak and double lobster tails with the lobster mac and cheese it was so good, Our Appetizer was the glazed shrimp they were just mouth watering. Can't wait to go there again.

Double standard

By Robin8300 |

Its Rodeo Week and apparently Ruth Chris doesn’t support the 90 year Houston traditon. Couples reaervation post John Pardi day 6 of Rodeo. We were told we couldn’t enter the dining rooms with our cowboy hats. Interesting to see not 1 but 4 baseball caps ans one even on backward while we dined. You would think maybe they could at least have a hat rack for RODEO 3 week venue! Tried to discuss with a manager but no one ever arrived to discuss.

What a Modern Steak House Should Be

By CubFan1948 |

I had been to the original Houston location many years ago when I was in Houston on business and I fell in love with their steaks. This was my first trip back since and thought my wife and I would give the new location a try. We were not disappointed. While the old location fit the clientele 25 years ago this new location is perfect for the 2014 diner. The service was outstanding. Our waiter zig or and his assistant and food runner were excellent. Our meals were prepared perfectly and the timing of the courses was great. I had the three course price fix meal. The Ribeye was prepared just the way I like it. My wife had the lamb chops. They had just been added back to the menu. It is a good addition. The portion was too much for her to eat, but she loved them and tried to finish them. The only disappointment was the Banana Pie desert. Not as goos as expected. Over all a fantastic meal as all of the meals at the Ruth's Chris are all over the country.

Great service and great food

Great service - top of the line food and wonderful location. We really enjoyed the desserts as well as the steak we had for dinner.

Quality Steaks, Drinks, and Service

By Great_Beer_Now |

Among food- specific restaurants, steakhouses rank among my favorite. A quality cut of steak, properly cooked and seasoned, makes for a delicious meal and that I exactly what you get at Ruth Chris Steakhouse. This location on Westheimer Road serves up tasty steaks, great drinks, and an elegant but not too pretentious atmosphere for a relaxing and enjoyable meal. I have visited Ruth Chris Steakhouses before, but it had been many years since I last dined at one and this visit to the Houston location on Westheimer Road was my first ever. I already had a good idea what to expect and I wasn’t disappointed. I started with a serving of craft beer and the other members of my dining party selected their own adult and other beverages. We them ordered some food and, since our appetites were not that strong, we mostly selected from the Sizzle, Swizzle, and Swirl menu. During Happy Hour, the deals offered from this menu are very good and they make a visit to Ruth Chris Steakhouse affordable for most families. For my meal, I ordered a steak sandwich with fries, ordered from the Sizzle, Swizzle, and Swirl menu described above. I liked the food and rate it highly, but I wish the bun was a little smaller, as it was excessively thick. The others in my dining party seemed to like their food items and everyone left happy. And while none of us ordered wine, I was impressed to see that they store each style of wine in a separate refrigeration unit so that each style is chilled to the proper temperature. The wine and temps can be seen by customers- it’s all on display behind a glass wall in the hallway. This is nice, because it shows again that Ruth Chris Steakhouse believes in quality and doesn’t care if it takes more effort or work to achieve it. One thing about Ruth Chris Steakhouse that will get your attention immediately is the prices. With the exception of the Sizzle, Swizzle, and Swirl menu, the prices are rather steep. However, the portions are very large- many of the steaks for example are a full pound in size and therefore large enough to share. When you consider the size of the portions, the prices perhaps aren’t too bad. My only issue with this is that I don’t normally like to share my meal and I don’t like boxing food and taking it home. So, I tend to avoid the main menu completely and stick with the small menu items on the other menus. Parking at this Ruth Chris Steakhouse location can be a challenge. There is some self- parking in back, but there are only a few spaces and if you come here during the day, you have to be careful not to park in spaces reserved for other businesses. If you do, your car may get towed. The only safe option is to use valet parking, but this will, of course, carry an additional charge. Great steak makes for a great meal and Ruth Chris Steakhouse is a great place to dine for steak and other foods. They take good care of you at this restaurant with attentive service to guests and extra care to prepare and serve quality food. It’s a good restaurant overall and certainly worth a visit.

Will not return

By amycV4481JC |

My husband and I dined at Ruth's Chris this evening. The service we received was simply unacceptable. The waiter repeatedly walked by our table without refilling tea or water glasses when they were empty . He did not complete simple requests such as bringing a drink menu to our table when asked . When our desserts were brought out we had no drinks. My tea glass was empty and we were not asked if we wanted coffee.,, etc. Our check was brought out and the waiter did not return in a reasonable amount of time to complete our transaction . While the food was good , I expect to have quality service in a restaurant such as Ruth's Chris . We usually go to Pappas were we have never experienced anything but superb service. That is where we will be going from now on.

“Absolutely Superb,,,,, Ruth Chris Houston!”

Birthday dinner/celebration. World class steaks delivered with Houston charm! Sides were prepared excellently. Met and exceeded every expectation.

Consistently Good

Best steaks in town. This chain of steakhouses is consistently good in any city. Houston has many choices, but this place is always the BEST!

Good Ribeye's & Wine Selection.

By Chris E |

Definitely not the cheapest place in town, but they do produce some above average steaks. My father and I had ribeye's and they were juicy and flavorful. We asked for a wine suggestion and explained some of our preferences and they brought out a recommended bottle, which we enjoyed. Loud at peak hours and on the weekends, but a fun hustling and bustling atmosphere. Most people were dressed professional. Great place to celebrate a special occasion with a higher end meal or to hit the town in style. I've had better steaks at better prices in Corpus Christ (U&I) and Floresville (Trail Riders), so those two factors keep me from rating the restaurant as a whole, above average. However, I would rate the steaks separately a 4 out of 5.

I'd always heard Ruth's Chris .....

By TxAggieAndHisBride |

Is THE best for steaks and I was not disappointed. The preparation of their prime beef is absolute perfection, scrumptious scalloped potatoes and creamed spinach, and as would be expected excellent bartender. Our waiter, Bryan, was knowledgable but mumbled and we constantly were asking him to repeat himself. Creme brûlée was perfection

Kinda disappointed

By Tom A |

I was expecting a 5 star experience based on what I was told abut this location. Relatively new in opening from their other location on RIchmond, I was hoping for more. Service was slow, food was bland, so I'm still wondering what's all the fuss.

Not as good as it used to be

By rshwartz |

Went for Thanksiving..they had a special menu but we were also able to order off the regular menu. All 5 of us ordered steaks. One tasted "off" - like it was either a bad cut or too over aged. The others were good; but, way too much seasoning, which took away from the taste of the meat. When we notified the waiter, he offered a free dessert. Our sides were OK...the sweet potatoes were a bit dry and over cooked; but, the brussel sprots were great. Overall, there are much better steak houses in Houston...I suggest you try one of them.

Great service/good food!

By Tessa49 |

I ate at the bar, and they had a wonderful special - 6 oz filet, 2 prawns and a glass of rose for $30!! I added a baked potato and it was a fabulous meal! The service was wonderful. It was great for this business traveler!

Great steaks

By Lee Ann F |

This place has been consistent with quality through the years. Steaks were great. The wine we ordered from the wine list wasn’t stocked, but they seem to have a good selection. Bar scene was a little hectic with people eating at bar tables, so wouldn’t recommend getting there before your reservation for a drink. Service was great in main dining room.

Good steak, expensive sides, indifferent service, questionable venue

By Peter Black |

I have eaten at Ruth's Chris Steak Houses many times over the years, and I generally enjoy the experience, though the bill is always the least pleasant moment. I dined many times at the old location on Richmond Avenue in Houston, and while I note the negative comments on other reviews, I rather liked the intimacy and clubby character of the place; all brown wood and leather. On top of that, the steaks were always excellent. I like the cowboy rib-eye, medium rare, delivered with that dark, rich, almost burnt outside, and the warm, tender, moist, pink centre. A side of steak fries and some creamed spinach completed what was almost the perfect meal. Fast forward to yesterday, and I made my third or fourth visit to the new location on Westheimer. Just as well I'd been before, as the location link on the reservation confirmation email pointed at the old location. On the previous occasions, I'd been a bit disappointed as the steaks didn't seem to be cooked the same way. It seemed that the steak had far less of that distinctive dark seared character, and the meat was far less tender. It was hard to tell if the steaks had been cooked in accordance with my request, as the lighting in the new venue is so bad that you need a torch to check the colour of the centre. They used to ask specifically if the steak was cooked to your preference, but they don't seem to do that now, maybe because it's impossible to tell. Anyway, I had a gift card, which made a return visit a certainty. As I said above, I liked the old venue, but I'm really not sure about the new one. It seems much less intimate, with huge windows that look out on nothing but Westheimer Avenue. The web site makes a point of mentioning how nice it is to see car lights out there at night, but I don't appreciate the experience. Unfortunately, they no longer do steak fries, so I had regular fries and creamed spinach alongside my cowboy rib-eye. The sides are really too big for one person, but I wanted the variety, and they were very tasty. The steak was also very good, and seemed much better cooked and tastier than on my previous visits. Unfortunately, my waitress was peremptory and seemed distracted, with a permanently bemused look on her face. Very few pleasantries, and after I declined a second glass of wine before I finished the first, she seemed surprised that I asked for another later. Obviously, you only get one chance... Overall, then, the steak and sides were very good, though they should be at the prices charged. Unfortunately, the service didn't match this standard, and I'm really not sure about the venue. One for special occasions or business dinners.

Wonderful Experience!

By Fran N |

Booked a reservation for our wedding anniversary. When we arrived & were escorted to our table, we were surprised that the table was set up with hearts sprinkled on the table to honor our anniversary! Nice touch. The food was excellent. We both had the lobster tail & filet dinner which included a starter, side & dessert. Lobster & filet were fantastic!! Only complaint was that my husband's baked potato was not quite hot enough. We were too full for dessert so they packed it up "to go" for us...but still brought over some ice cream with a candle in it & the plate was decorated with "Happy Anniversary" written in chocolate. Very classy atmosphere and we thoroughly enjoyed our experience!!

Always a good experience.

I frequent here often, service is always good, food prepared well and happy hour is affordable. Love the spicy lobster..

Perfect birthday celebration

By ftloos |

We were celebrating my husbands 65th birthday and chose Ruth’s Chris Steak House. Awesome and knowledgeable staff. Beautiful table presentation and birthday card awaited us. We chose to share the Surf and Turf Celebration with creamed spinach side. Portions were split at the table and each and every bite was delicious, hot and flavorful. The birthday dessert was nicely presented and delicious.

Ruth's CHRIS has CRISP service. Highest of recommendations.

By Jim O |

From the valet at the front to the bartender and the entire wait staff unbelievable service. Of course the food was excellent! The head valet has 20 years service, our server has 30 years experience, etc. etc. A friend took me for my birthday and we split an entrée, had two glasses of wine, 1 martini and 1 beer. Total ticket was under $100. The atmosphere was very, very nice. While there we went ahead and booked our company Christmas party there. Can't wait to go back.

Couldn't get a table...on hold for >5 minutes

By Anne T |

I called to reserve a table for 9/22/2016 for 4 people for the Robert Mondavi wine pairing dinner that is being offered via email. My phone call was answered by the third ring, and I was asked to hold. No one picked up the line. I hung up at 5 minutes, 35 seconds on hold listening to the recorded menu. Unacceptable.

Beautiful Dinner for Two

By Nancy J |

We reserved a table for 2 for our birthday celebration. What a lovely evening we had. Everyone from the hostess to the busboy were friendly, very experienced and there to make your dinner an event. Our choices were the Petite Fillet and the 16oz. Ribeye medium-rare. They were cooked to perfection. You could have cut them with a butter knife (and I did the next day with my leftover fillet). The mushrooms were wonderful, the salads were fresh crisp and full of flavor and the complimentary dessert (for birthday guests) was a plus. They have a very nice bar and an upstairs for semi-private dinners for up to 10. It's been years since we had been to Ruth's Chris and so glad we chose it again.

Ruth Chris Dress Code Policy Drove Us Away for Good

By MrPerryN |

After 40+ years of eating at Ruth Chris, we are no longer loyal to the brand and will not be eating there again. Last night my wife and I wanted to have a nice meal and good bottle of wine, so of course we went to Ruth Chris' on 5400 block of Westheimer. We did not have a reservation, but it was early and very few people eating at tables. We weren't dressed up, but very presentable... me in slacks and pull over golf type shirt with collar, and my wife, having just come from work as a Nurse, in her scrubs with long sleeved shirt under it. We were told they could not seat us because my wife was wearing scrubs... apparently a policy that just went into effect recently. I could understand a dress code regulating shorts, or undershirts, or flip flops and saggy pants, but my wife was wearing regulated scrubs... the uniform of her profession. We were told she could go home and change and come back. When I asked to speak to the Manager, all he seemed to be able to say was I'm sorry, and he can give us something for the next time we came there... well, I didn't accept because there will not be a next time. I look at nursing as a noble profession and I am proud of what my wife does to help others which she has been doing for over 30 years. I understand Ruth Chris has the right to set the rules, but I have the right to never set foot in their place again, and influence as many others to follow suit as I can for what I consider to be an unacceptable dress code regarding scrubs. BTW, Capital Grill welcomed us with open arms, service was wonderful, food was top notch and the bottle of wine suggested by Jacob Torres, our waiter was superb. They are right down the street from Ruth Chris'. I suggest you give Capital Grill a try.

Great New Years Eve Dinner

By Gentry P |

Had a fabulous dinner experience for NYE 2018. No one complained about working and our waiter Georgio provided excellent service right up to midnight. Of course the sizzling steak was perfect and the lobster mac and cheese delicious. We made a great choice for our dinner celebration and can’t wait to go back.

Special Dinner

By tomdB2732IJ |

My wife and I celebrated a special Christmas dinner in mid December at Ruth Chris and were very pleased. The restaurant is elegant with high ceilings which helps with noise and making it feel less crowded and more intimate. We ordered a bottle of wine and had three courses while enjoying a three hour dinner. We never felt rushed and had excellent service. We will definitely be back.

what a disappointment

By Lori S |

Have been looking forward to going to Ruth Chris for quite a while. Decided to go on Christmas Day since it was going to be just the 4 of us. We made reservations well in advance. When we arrived they seated us in the bar area. I wasn't happy since we had kids and were in fact dressed up for the Holiday and the atmosphere was somewhat causal in the bar. Service was exceptionally slow. We kept saying it must be because it's Christmas and they are running short staffed. Well my husband asked how they decided who had to work today and the waitress said oh we all have to work. Which meant this is how they typically run things! We never received water or asked if we wanted any. It took quite a while for the drinks to arrive. She never checked on us and was not friendly at all! We ordered the 12 ounce rib eye. It was tasty but noticed it seemed to be prepackaged as my husband's look the same exact size. It had a tenderness about it that reminded me of meat tenderizer like I had back in the day at Bonanza. The one and only positive think I can say is that my 14 year old son said that the hamburger was the best hamburger he has ever tasted (and he is quite the connoisseur of burgers. This was definitely not worth the price or even worth my time to go back.

business dinner for two

By fatfoodie2018 |

Maybe a little harsh on the score, however, somewhere between average and good would suffice. steak was good quality but a little over done as was my guest's. The wine selection was large and varied but our bottle of red was served chilled. The service was excellent though, from the front of house to the server. very friendly and incredible helpful.

The steak is to die for!!!

I surprised my husband for his birthday and I must say, they made his birthday really special. They had a table reserved for us with a birthday setup on the tables and a birthday card(which was a surprise to me lol) the service was great and the food was delicious!!! We highly recommend the porterhouse for two (since I don’t like the fat on my steak). They also gave him a free dessert👍🏾

Service problem

By jsthouston |

A friend who is a fan of this Westheimer staple took me to dinner and things started out badly when they got our drink order wrong. Service was very slow which would have been okay, it's a comfortable restaurant, save for the fact we had informed the waiter that we were meeting friends at a near by bar at 8:30. We were late. Steaks were okay though mine was a bit more done than rare. Given we were already running late I could hardly send it back. This was my first time at a Ruth Chris in Houston and I can only say I am glad I didn't have to pick up the tab. I certainly will not be back.

VERY disappointed

By CD-HouTx |

I have eaten at Ruth's Chris Steak Houses for years, all over the country and have always been extremely satisfied. I have eaten at the one in Houston for 30 years and have never had a bad anything...until this past Sat. (Feb. 1) Celebrating my husband's birthday with a small party (7 people) I had made the reservation on-line and changed the # of people twice; even though I received confirmation emails each time, prudently I called to confirm the changes; none had been made! Once at the restaurant at 5:30pm on a Sat. night, the service was HORRIBLE!!!!!! We waited 1 hour to get bread or even an order taken. The usually wonderful flavorful food was bland, over cooked and took forever to be served. We asked for butter and never got it, the water glasses were never re-filled and our waiter Daniel thought it appropriate to suddenly stop and interject his opinion and conversation into our conversations. Being a birthday celebration they did give my husband a dessert of his choice and put a candle on it but never offered to light it. Then we had the aggravation of trying to get utensils to eat it... Bottom line, a 30 year Houston institution has made a huge mistake, if by moving you left behind your quality and service...

Management issues

By islandgus |

We were a party of four and had reserved table 10. This is an isolated table that is quiet evenif the resturant is packed. 7:30 reservation. All four of us arrived around 7:20 and were told the table would be ready on time. Twenty minutes later we asked when an they said dinners were still at the table why not go to the bar an we will call you. Another 30 minutes with no news we again asked an now they have paid the bill. Ok an hour after our reservation time we were seated. Never during the wait were we advised of what was going on or offered another table. The manager later apologized but said they never rush guests. So why have reservations. I would not have been offended if the situation was reversed an after hours sitting we were asked to move to the bar. These folks had been there over 3 hours. The manager should have asked them to move or askedif we wanted to change tables. Just poor managing

good meat

Big restaurant, kind service. Food was quite OK: starter with caesar salad (not much interest), then filet which was really good. Side orders (spinach and mached potatoes) were really good too.

Ruth Chris is an amazing restaurant, with an elegant dining room. The staff were very friendly, our server was excellent. The food was delicious, the overall experience was great.

Great experience

By Amy |

My husband brought me here for mothers day lunch. Valet parking provided. Great ambience right from the entrance! Attentive staff. We had a martini (steakhouse martini - awesome) at the bar before going into the dinning room and I loved the ambience and staff in the bar area. Great spacing in the dinning area. Dinners are not sitting back to back. You can have conversation's without whispering. We shared the crispy lobster tail and lobster bisque for starters. The lobster tail was finger licking good, definitely recommend it. The lobster bisque was not good. It had a strange and bitter taste. My husband had the stuffed chicken breast for his main course and it was awesome. I had the lamb chops and they were finger licking good! I don't get the sizzling butter on both plates though ....... We shared a creamed spinach and mashed potatoes and both were delicious. The sides are big enough to share between two (or three if you all are not too hungry). We shared the apple pie with vanilla ice cream for desert. Great choice! Delicious and just enough for two! I had the 50 acre cabernet with my meal. Great semi-dry wine.

Super Great Meal

By mga001 |

My colleagues and I came here after some meetings in the building next door and it was a great meal as usual. I have a Ruth Chris back home but have not been in years, I was reminded why I should go more often. Everything was great and service was perfect. Would definitely return.

Best Ribeye

By Amr_Heikal |

I’m a loyal Ruth’s Chris customer because I know for a fact that I will be served a delicious steak. I can simply say that in any city that I travel to, if there is a Ruth’s Chris I make sure I eat there. I’ve tried Ruth’s Chris steakhouse in Austin, Denver, Portland, Seattle, Dubai and of course in Houston. It is the consistent in every city and it for sure one of the top steakhouses in the world. I had no reservation, I just went for the steak so I walked in at 22:30 I sat in the bar area. The service was great as usual at Ruth’s. I was sad to know that the Spinach au Gratin side was removed from the menu. Even though my waiter offered to ask the chef to make it for me it was already late so I ordered my favorite fries the Shoestrings. Please Ruth’s Chris bring back the Spinach au Gratin to the menu. I ordered Ribeye 16 OZ medium, it arrived cooked to perfection topped with butter in a sizzling plate 10/10. It was marbled which gave it the best flavor, it was delicious, juicy and melted like butter.

Different Decoration and Great Service

Very near the Galleria is this restaurant. It has natural light, and the decoration is different than others we have dinned. Would come back!

Excellence Never Wavers Here

By CriticalChris |

I have always loved Ruth's Chris steakhouses since my first visit in the 1970's. The new Ruth's on Westheimer Rd. near the Galleria is a beautiful restaurant and the food and service remains exemplary. Of all the great steakhouses this remains one of very best.

Great Food

By Patti M |

This restaurant has a very nice atmosphere, The staff is wonderful. The food is outstanding. This is one of the best steakhouses that we have been to.

Desert

By carlin o |

I only ate the cheesecake and it was delicious. I was only looking for desert to go but while looking through the menu there were many meals there that i would enjoy trying one day. A little pricey, but, you get what you pay for. Great for dates or to impress friends or clients.

Very enjoyable

We popped in for dinner, bit worried that we were underdressed but were made to feel welcome. It's a bit pricey but the service was great and the food delicious.

One of the best steaks you will ever have!!

By rt145996 |

I took my wife to Ruth's Chris Steak house for date nite. We had reservations for 5pm and were promptly seated. Very nicely decorated place. White linen table cloths, the works!! Wait staff was very informative as regards menu items. You cannot see the prices online, so come with your credit cards, because this is not McDonalds. I had the ribeye, medium well, and it was prepaired to perfection. They bring it out to you on a sizzling platter 500 degrees. Do not touch the plate. Sides are enough for 2, so order different sides and share with someone. Salads are delicious as well. Vallet parking is available. Nice place for date nite. Will go there again.

Not the Ruth's we were accustomed to

By ThePerrys_10 |

We have been to Ruth's Chris many times and some times were better than others but tonight was a huge disappointment. We made a reservation for my husband's birthday as we often do for special occasions. We arrived on time and our table was ready on time. So far so good. Our waiter was cordial and we asked for our favorite wine. Couldn't find it on the Wine List... After waiting for a little while, we were informed that the page our wine was listed on was missing from the wine list so that is why they couldn't find it... Ah well, we finally got the wine ($195) and enjoyed it very much. There were the usual little "Happy Birthday" signs on the table and Ruth's BD card as we get every time we had been there for a birthday. But no bread, no butter, no one to fill up our glasses of water... Our waiter reappeared and took our orders and disappeared again. 11/2 hour later, still no bread - my husband asked if we could get some bread. Our waiter apologized but informed us that he had to attend many tables and was very busy... Finally the food arrived. Crabtini was good but not WOW as it usually is, the lobster bisque was barely warm but not too bad, the steak was fine, the gratin potatoes were undercooked but good, the lobster mac which used to be absolutely creamy, full of large morsels of lobster was not only uneatable but, just looking at the mushy stuff on top of the mac (which apparently was supposed to be lobster), would have taken anybody's appetite away. We told our waiter that we couldn't eat it and he graciously offered to replace it with spicy shrimps which were very spicy but quite good (a few tasted funny but the rest was OK). Finally our waiter asked us if we wanted dessert... Well, hasn't it always be a tradition at Ruth's to bring a little birthday cake with a candle ?...Asked the Manager who was passing by our table if they were still offering it and she said yes and 15 minutes later, our waiter brought an assortment of "chocolate delights" (no candle) - funny, a table not far from us, got cakes with candles without asking for it... All and all, not the birthday celebration and culinary experience we would have wished for. We are conscious that they might be short of staff on a very busy night and we appreciate the waiters' hard work but the patrons shouldn't have to put up with these inconveniences. When one is spending $500+ at a restaurant like Ruth's, one should expect attention to details and a better food and service

Great Food, Poor Service

By GlendaKHouston_Texas |

We have being going to Ruth Chris for decades. This was our first time at the location on Westheimer. We had a reservation. We were led through several nice rooms to a room in the back. It was nice, but joked that we must not have been dressed correctly. My husband did have on a coat. They set us at a table that was smaller than the others. We waited. Finally, our waiter took our order for wine. When he returned after about 10 minutes, I discovered after the first sip that he had brought me the wrong wine. He apologized and took it back. 10 minutes later he brought out the correct wine for me and my husband. It seems he had also got the wrong wine. He took our order. We waited. We got our salad. They removed the plates, Someone appeared with food for our table, but it was not ours. We waited. Another person appeared with food for our table that was not ours. Our waiter appeared. We ordered another glass of wine. Our food finally appeared. Our new wine order appeared. They had my wine wrong again. The waiter apologized and went to get the wine. The food was excellent, but the service was very poor. Besides apologizing, nothing else was said. We left the customary 15% tip, but it was not earned. Once at Carrabbas, the waiter mixed up my wine with the lady at an adjoining table. He immediately replaced and comped the glass. What is really upsetting for me is that I gave 4 $75 gift certificates to Ruth Chris at Christmas. I hope they have a better experience. i will never do that again.

Beautiful food

By Lee Grint |

Came here on 2 occasions during a 2 night stay in Houston - it was really that good. Beautiful food, Separate restaurant and bar area for sitting. I tried lunch (steak sandwich) then dinner (Ribeye steak). Both of which were fantastic. Good menu, a little pricey but worth it for the quality.

It's not one of the best meals I have ever had, but it was very good

By David B |

I would dine there again for business, the service was very good, they have valet parking, We had great service. try the sweet potatoes they are very good and I could make a meal out of this dish. it's in a nice part of town.....

1st impression

By Jorge P |

my first time visiting this establishment ever, and it was a very good experience. they have valet for your vehicle (free) so you don't have to worry about finding parking in the small area its located. very nice décor to get you in the right mood to eat your steak. Service (waiter) was as you expect in any restaurant. I was in the mood for lamb chops, very good and flavorful, but size portions (terrible). It comes 3 on your plate, but they are very, very small. if you combined the three, it makes for one good size lamb chop at a different restaurant. the corn soup was good. You have to try the creme brulee, one word to describe it WOW! I recommend you try it.

HAPPY HOUR!!!!!!!!!

By Durwin S |

During their afternoon happy hour which I believe is 4-7pm, they offer a "steak sandwich" cooked to your preference. Order it medium rare and you get sliced filet on a bun with fries. OUTSTANDING!!

Best Steakhouse Meal of the Year

By mjbbg572 |

Because of my job, I have eaten at many of the high end steakhouses in the Houston area. My recent meal at Ruth's Chris in the Galleria is one of the best steakhouse meals I had all year. For starters, we shared the Seared Ahi Tuna, Calamari, and Spicy Shrimp. All were delicious but the Seared Ahi Tuna stood out as being the best of the three. My filet mignon was cooked to an absolute perfect medium rare plus. The meat melted in my mouth with every bite. It was so good I almost ordered another one! My meal was paired perfectly with several glasses of Caymus Conundrum Red Blend. The service was very good. All the servers were very knowledgeable about the food and wine. I would definitely eat here again!

Good Steak!

By wolfdenTexas |

We visited Ruth's Chris a while back for our anniversary. Maybe I was expecting too much. While my Rib-eye was good I was not too impressed with the service. The ambience was a bit too dark for me, maybe better lighting would help. I don't want to sound negative. The place was just ok nothing to run away from. Try and maybe you would like it better than me. I just was not impressed with anything they offered.

A disappointment at a great steak house

By allonster |

My wife had her steak switched out twice and gave up after the second time. The side dishes were small and tasteless - mashed potato and rice are the ones we chose. My steak was great...so we did not understand why they could not get my wife's steak done right! service was good attentive but on the slow side

Wonderful dining experience.

By mcalip1 |

I was celebrating a family member's birthday. Wait staff was great and helpful. Very nice ambiance. A casual elegance. Complimentary valet parking. Reservations suggested. A little pricey about 45.00 plus, but well worth it.Family members had various steaks & stuff chicken.they were please with them. Shrimp remoulade is good as well as the lobster Mac & sin cake for desert. Overall it was an enjoyable experience.

Happy Hour

By Brenda D |

Went here with my brother and his wife for happy hour, and I can say it was fantastic. They offer the full menu and a happy hour menu which was a nice touch. The restaurant itself is beautifully decorated, and it makes for a very nice place to hang out on a Sunday evening. I really enjoyed the steak sandwich and the rosemary raspberry martini, made with real rosemary I might add. The bartender/waitress we had was very knowledgeable about the food and the drinks so we felt like we made good choices, and even tried a few new things. Their happy hour gives you the upscale flavor without the upscale price tag. I truly enjoyed the restaurant and will be returning again.

Not the Best Steak in Houston

By Vic777_12 |

Another Ruth's Chris location closed in Houston and moved to this location; I am wondering if some of the negatives did not travel with them. The décor was nice, the service friendly, and the steak was ok. However, the waiter sounded more like a used car salesman. Ok. Our drinks took a while and the waiter shook them in the mixers at the table which sounded good but only watered them down after they had probably been sitting at the bar for some time (they were not that busy that night). I ordered a ribeye, Pittsburgh style. It really wasn't Pittsburgh and it was just ok. We probably won't return simply because there is better steak to be had in Houston.

very good if you are on expenses

By travellerocity |

Super formal dining experience, surrounded by gents in suits and a wonderful wine list. The service and the food is exceptionally good. The dining room is beautifully presented with good quality linen and cutlery. The wide variety of steaks and dishes are sure to suit hungry patrons, and the steaks are amongst the best I have ever tasted in America however, this all comes at a price - one main course, side dish and 2 drinks was just under 100 dollars. Beautiful in every way, with exceptional food and wine, at prices aligned to the high earning professionals in the area.

New location, great food!

By dfoxsk |

We recently went to this restaurant during a stay in Houston. The new location is very nice and the service is excellent. The food was exceptional and I loved the filet and shrimp dinner I got - which came with sides and a dessert. The steak was cooked perfectly and overall it was a great evening.

One of the best

By Skywalkerzx9 |

Ruth Chris happy hour is one of the best in town, service is always great the food is even better, every time I take a new person with me they are as impressed as I was my first visit. You can't beat the $ value, happy hour prices are nearly half off. The only bad thing is the parking but they do have a decent valet that won't break the bank. I highly recommend Ruth Chris happy hour.

Excellent!

By Beth N |

We held a small memorial dinner at Ruth's and it was a lovely experience. It was a hodgepodge of people and the servers handled everyone beautifully. The food was fantastic ~ fresh and delicious salads, steaks and lamb chops cooked to order to perfection! No complaints. This was a wonderful meal with outstanding service! Special thanks to our lead server, Chris, he is a true professional!

Big, Loud, Busy, DARK - bring a flashlight!

By Hunter T |

OK, we did prefer the old location, but it is gone! We understand. The new venue is splashy, big, and loud... surprisingly loud, considering the high ceilings and draperies... and carpet. Still not a nice quiet dinner... but our issue was the DARK... are they trying to save on their electric bill? This is obviously a big issue, as Ron, our very nice waiter, have a fine mini-LCD flashlight so we could read the wine list and the menu... Tiny type, and dark, not a good combo... Finally found a good and reasonable red wine. Buena Vista "The Count" 2008 - very full bodied and layered. Prices are fairly high, dinner for two was almost $200 with the wine. Entrees are around $45 plus veggies. Good Valet Service. We came without reservations, a test, and we were seated in 14 minutes, not too bad. Service was prompt and attentive. Portions were generous, as is a Texas tradition, but my large Filet was not tender, and was seared to crusty on the outside. For $44 one does expect a super tender filet. It was acceptable, but not one to write home about. We are amazed at the patrons, flip-flops, polo's not tucked in, no ties, no jackets, jeans and shirts not tucked in... OK, we are old school, but this is a "fine dining" locale, and they were dressed for Ninfa's... or McDonald's... Did I mention you need to bring your own flashlight! We will possibly return, but it is not high on our agenda... Try the Capital Grill, less than a block to the East - quiet, you can read the menu and the steaks are more tender... Cheers!

Memorial weekend

By Underpressure84 |

I'll keep this review short, sweet, and to the point. First, It seems that the general attitude of Ruth Chris employees is that the customer is of no importance. Second, there is no consistent quality of food control. I've given this chain restaurant 2 opportunities to wow me in two separate cities and each time they fall harder and harder. I wouldn't eat here ever again even if it was given to me. Third, far to many steak houses with better customer service to chose from and food. " Fool me once, shame on you. Fool me twice, shame on me. Lastly, a word to the management team this isn't a ploy for anything free just letting you know how far off the marker your restaurant is. Never again will I eat here nor recommend you to anybody. Sullivan's steak house, Charlie Palmer, or Trulucks are more notable steak houses FYI.

Never fails

By EvilScubaKitty |

The filet mignon is legendary. This is THE reason to dine at Ruth Chris. The Houston location has been there for decades for very good reasons, excellent food, service and atmosphere.

Savory meals, quite expensive for the less than stellar service.

By TravelBugTennessee |

First of all, the meals were very very good. We had about everything - steak, shrimp, chicken, lamb, fish. The sides were (I'm sorry but it's true) ridiculously priced. A baked potato was $10, wedge of plain lettuce with real bacon and a nice dressing, $13, and on it went. But you kind of know that going in. What was unexpected was the overly slow, less than attentive service for not being overly busy at the time. (We dined relatively early for dinner on a weekday.) Our empty dishes piled up, water went unfilled for quite a time, our server disappeared after serving, not checking with us if the meal was cooked to satisfaction (that had been a question on the steak and lamb, if each should be cooked medium rare, rare, medium.) We ate as is, though one could've been more thoroughly cooked. Didn't want to wait longer. Great location, complimentary valet (with tip needed of course), nice interior. For the price (over $300 for 5 with nothing alcoholic), would likely go elsewhere.

Birthday Dinner

By lmc2003 |

My Husband and I went to Ruth's Chris's to celebrate his birthday. It was an excellent choice. I was nervous as I do not eat steak but they had plenty of other choices. I went with the Crab Cakes and they were outstanding. My husband loved his petite filet and they cooked it just has he asked. The service was outstanding. We thoroughly enjoyed the dinner.

I was saving this place for a special occasion.

By Ines410 |

Nor the service nor the food was great. Much better places in Houston for a good steak. I think this place is over rated! We were 4 and non of us said it was delicious!

Great Happy Hour

By Austin V |

There is no shortage of steakhouses in Houston. Del Frisco's, Morton's, Capital Grill, The Palm, Ruth's Chris, and local eateries as well. Since we were not extremely hungry, we decided to find a good Happy Hour. After checking a lot of them out on line we decided to go to Ruth's Chris. Great choice. The cocktails were wonderful, especially at $9, the appetizers well priced and large, and service attentive and personable. They had a great spicy shrimp dish, wonderful steak sandwich, a seared Ahi tuna (did I say we were not very hungry).

Steaks are way too buttery!!!

By Wreachell |

I'm giving this experience 3 stars because we came here expecting to have a delicious steak but the steak was too oily or too buttery. Anyone who knows how to cook steak could have cooked this at home. The desserts and sides are delicious though! Our server, Marco, was extremely nice and attentive. We noticed a lot of customers frustrated due to the credit card machine they had. The server had to physically bring the cc machine to each person and go through a series of steps. It was not helpful at all! Get rid of those machines! It makes your service slow and it looks very unprofessional having each person enter stuff on their own. This place is overpriced! Steaks aren't special enough for us to go back.

Major Disappointment

By Alan M |

Ruth Chris are well known as a great restaurant, serving great food and good service. I have eaten at a couple of their restaurants on the west coast, but never in Texas. Previously I had enjoyed very good service, and meals. However that was not the case this time. It's a Saturday, and about to rain so my wife and I opted to take in a meal and parked out back of the Westheimer restaurant. Upon entering, we had no appointment, and were advised that there was a ninety minute wait for a table. Well no one should expect to wait that long in the early evening, so we decided to leave, only for the table booker to cry out that a table was suddenly available. We sat down, and within five minutes, three waiters/waitresses asked us for our drinks order. Talk about over doing it. Over the next five minute whilst we studied the menu, three tables came free. Interesting! I ordered a beer, she went for the coconut ginger lemon drop Martini. I have to say the cocktail was made from two of those reduced alcohol flavoured vodka's, which I did not like the taste of, I do believe that using these mixed liquers detracts from the real vodka cocktails, but this seems to be the preferred option today. Anyway, my wife did not like it, and they gave her a replacement basic cocktail. We shared a starter of osso buco ravioli, and was very disappointed with it, as it was more al than dente! Certainly not what I expected and it did not tickle my taste buds at all. I then ordered a rib eye steak with mashed potatoes, my wife just had the filet steak. Whilst her steak was very good, I did not think the rib eye was anything special, which was surprising given the reputation it has. Oddly, the plates the steaks were served on, were very small, but no matter, as the mashed potato was on another plate. Ironically, the plates from the appetizer remained on the table for the duration of the meal which was rather surprising. We declined the deserts and coffee, as we were not in the mood to sit there any longer, having not truly enjoyed the meal. We walked into a down pour of rain to the car and went home. I guess my small tip indicated my displeasure of the evening.

Best consistent steak

By Cabend1 |

Ruth’s Chris always has the best consistent steak no matter what city I am in. The service was top notch.

Ruth Chris

By Harris H |

What you would except from one of their restaurants. Salad was good...steak was great, and as were the potatoes. My wife and I shared the 16 oz. strip and it was more than enough. Steak was cooked as ordered. Only thing service a little slow.

Excellent Food, Setting

By 631kirbyf |

Had wanted to visit restaurant before, used Houston Restaurant Week as excuse to visit. Visited on Sunday evening so it was very quiet not very busy. Setting is very nice as you would expect. Service was very good (a little slow at times due being shorthanded when we first arrived). Food was excellent. I had the salmon entree while everyone else choose the filet. Also had the onion soup. Everything was excellent, well prepared and served well. Will definitely go back.

Great bar happy hour

By red1990 |

Had dinner here last week in the bar. Great prices before 7:00. Great prime beef hamburger and fries as well as other good items on the bar menu. Great service. We will go back.

Rude unorganized Hostess Amelia

By M W |

Went to Ruth Chris For Mother's day. Had a reservation for 3:15 arrived ahead of the reservation time. Another person arrived well after at 3:27. When this person arrived they stated that they had a 3:15 appointment but they were late. Surprisingly they were called before us. I told the little hostess named Amelia about this and she was very rude. Amelia the hostess lied at first and said that their reservation was for 2:45 and after I let her know that wasn't true she was even more rude. This establishment is extremely overrated and the customer service and level of professionalism is on par with a Mc Donalds on a back highway. We ended up taking our business to The Oceanaire and it was a far better experience

Great drinks

By DJaye W |

We came here for my sister's birthday. I'm not a steak water but the stuffed chicken was great. Everyone must try the ginger lemon drop martini. It is so delicious!!!

Ruth's Chris has lost some sizzle

By rob4food |

Went there last night for my birthday with my son and we were rather disappointed. The usually dependable steak house fell short. Maybe its just a matter of them having a bad chef for the evening but it was not a great experience. Son's rib-eye looked and tasted more like a sirloin and was very rare instead of the requested medium rare. My fillet was similarly undercooked and had a BIG cut in in where someone was apparently checking the doneness. Good cooks know cutting open a steak causes it to lose juices and get tough. Our good waiter agreed to take it back and the next one was done right, but by then the two sides were cool. In the past they have had little metal pins atop the steaks indicating the doneness but no more. Oh they did comp a desert for my birthday but even there the results were less than desirable. They now serve a small round cheesecake that tasted like a hunk of cream cheese with a few crumbs on top. The two of us could not finish the distasteful item. Needless to say we will go to one of the many other steak houses in Houston for our next special occasion.

Excellence in Steak

By Revy679 |

There are a lot of steak houses in Houston, but I personally think this one tops them all. The drinks, appetizers, main course, sides and desserts....everything is phenomenal! When you crave excellent service, food and atmosphere this is the place to be.

Outstanding

By Jim L |

When travelling on Business I always spend the companies money like it was my own. However, once in a while I try something different. I was taking to someone who highly recommended the local Ruth's Chris Steak House in Houston. Dinner was a bit pricey, but man oh man was it ever good. I have never, ever had a steak this good. The sides were there, but I barely noticed them. I was interested in dessert, but why spoil a perfect meal. Very highly recommended.

40th Wedding Anniversary Celebration

By Gerry F |

We had selected several restaurant party venues to tour & they were okay…the last we visited was Ruth’s Chris. From the first meeting until we left that evening after the party — everything has been perfect. We invited 30-guests (family & friends) && each one has reached out to us to tell us it was the best party they have been to in a restaurant setting. We were allowed to decorate & we also had our cake brought in - same bakery which had make our wedding cake/groom’s cake. We had visited the restaurant the week before to select our wines (with Manager, Emily) and check out the Blue Dog room beforehand…Rodrique is a favorite of ours. They made a menu for everyone - including the wines. We selected the salad for all, then each guest selected their entree & the Garlic Mashed Potatoes & Steamed Broccoli were served ‘family style’. We were served (for an appetizer) skewers with cherry tomatoes & mozzarella + balsamic vinegar drizzled on top + their delicious bread. Our personal servers, Jose & Alexis were amazing! They took such great care of each guest! We recommend - if you are looking for a venue for a group party…to consider Ruth’s Chris! Their Management Staff - including Emily made the event hassle-free for us…we were just able to enjoy the evening!

Disappointed at New Year's

By Bradley R |

Decided to begin the New Year by celebrating New Year's Eve at RC. Haven't visited since the move last year and have to say I was disappointed on a variety of levels. The "lay out" or arrangement of tables had us seated literally in the middle of the room, crammed up against several other tables, which were all occupied. Each and every time the wait staff passed by our table, they would bump up against my fiancee, the table, our chairs, or me. Talked to the manager about it, made some simple suggestions to rearrange the layout to create better flow, and he said "Good idea!", but failed to address our legitimate complaint by offering us some sort of apology. Our waitress was inattentive at best, incompetent at worst. Never checked on us after kitchen staff served the food, never offered to get us another drink or glass of wine, and failed to offer us dessert. After a long wait for the check, she took even longer to bring back my charged debit card. Very disappointed to say we will not be returning - there are too many better options in Houston that cost less and taste better!

Calamari great for starters. Lobster Bisque soup ok. Lamb chops ok but too dry and the sweet potato casserole had to much sugar.

Great Experience!

By cidwoods |

I had a very nice experience while celebrating my birthday at the restaurant. John was an excellent server and made great recommendations. The chopped salad is to die for. I can't wait to go back to have it again. Not to mention the sweet potato casserole. Next time I must order one to go. Of course, the steak was amazing and was perfect with the wine pairing.

My mother’s memorable 69th birthday dinner ! April 22.

By Exploration641326 |

We celebrated my mother’s 69th birthday last Saturday the 22nd at Ruth Chris. I am not the one to honestly write a review but I felt this was necessary as the service was impeccable to say the least! Josh the manager called that morning to finalize our reservation and asked what my mom’s favorite color(s) were and also offered to make personalized menu cards. Later did we know he asked for her favorite colors as to gift her a beautiful bouquet of floral arrangements all in her favorite colors. It was so beautiful and my mother was wowed! Tony our server was a ROCKSTAR! He was able to take care of all 12 of us effortlessly. He was so nice and professional. And Ofcourse the food was 10/10 of nothing but deliciousness! Thank you again Ruth Chris for making our night memorable. God bless you!

Hands down great service!

Chris our waiter was amazing! From explaining the history of the restaurant to making sure I knew the quality of the food to just excellent service gives him personally a 5 star review! If we go again we might not sit in the Blue dog room next to the wall- we kept hearing loud banging which might be from the kitchen? The front of the house ladies seemed to be a little stressed but it was a busy night. Other than that, We had reservations and we got seated at the exact time. Food was delicious, My steak was great my husbands stuffed chicken was a little too hot. We finished eating and his chicken was still very hot as far as the temperature. Other than that I recommend this restaurant. It's on the pricey side but worth it for us :)

That sizzle!

By WhaGwanMiDere |

In Houston on business. Colleague suggested we go to Ruth Chris. OK, I've never been so why not? Interesting way to serve a steak - on an extremely hot plate, keeps sizzling as you eat (and keeps the meat warm). Steak was very tasty, service was excellent. Best part was the lobster tail appetizer with the spicy sauce. Found a new place to take the wife on a date.

Not the old Ruth's.

By dhinTX |

What a disappointment. In spite of reservations well ahead of time, with a 6:45 pm arrival , the four of us were seated in an empty side room next to the kitchen service entrance. We were dressed well, businees casual. Waiter took and placed drink orders at the bar then returned to suggest we order the tower of seafood as an appetizer (most expensive appetizer) - shame that one in our party cannot eat seafood - not that he would ask. Everyone had steak for main course, added several sauces, mushrooms, broccoli and the special potatoes of the night. Two more tables were seated in our room with many more groups being led to the main dining room. Ordered a $90 bottle of wine. It was good. The broccoli was dry and horribly overcooked. The potatoes were "different". Steaks ranged from fair (mine) to very good - most others. Halfway through, ordered a second bottle of the same wine. Brought the wrong vintage. Waiter came back with correct vintage, but he had to let me know it was the last one in a less than friendly manner. Dropped $650 for a second rate meal and second rate service. Will not return.

Food good

By BusinessPr0fessi0nal |

Nice venue. Decor elegant. Food was hot when received. Steak good. Just not a fab fab restaurant. Can't explain. A little pricey. Was in the mood and decided to check it out. Don't think you would be disappointed. A bit old school.

Still the best steak in Houston!!!

By Durwin S |

I recently ate at Steak48 in River Oaks. Good steaks, reasonable sides, good dessert, but not quite up to the quality of Ruth's Chris. I have had petite filets in many restaurants nationwide but none have quite matched the Ruth's Chris quality. While I have not tried all Ruth's Chris restaurants, I have tried quite a few and they are all outstanding. Sides of vegetables, potatoes, and mushrooms make the meal - but the medium rare filet is "to die for",

Great as a....

By Francep |

I had a great experience at Ruth's Chris in Houston but must stress i ordered a takeaway from the neighbouring Indigo hotel. The meat is not exactly cheap, but it isn't anywhere. This said, it was excellent and so tender that they can afford to give you plastic cutlery with the takeaway. Will use again.

Great for groups

Now I'm an Eddie V's girl since I live closer to West Ave, but this place is nice. I'll have to check out the bar area one night to see what the social scene is like. Sweet waiter for my bday dinner in the dining area though, he gave my entire table free dessert...cheesecake with warm apples baked inside w/ graham cracker crust. Yummmm I had visited once before with my husband and loved the fact that they accept large parties and can be booked online. They run out of Lobster after hours, both times I settled for the smaller ones available since it was late night. My one rant: 80% of the party must show before being seated. I reserved 10 ppl...7 showed immediately with 1 sure behind 15 mins. They tripped over that 1 person not being there LOL bish what? Im sure its the same table lady glad you know math now let me be seated with my party...change the RSVP to 7 ppl idgaf we're ready to eat! Just took a star off for the attitude ugh. Hi Deisy, you're rude. Other than the 'no-stess' at the front, the staff was cool and took pics of us all night past closing time. You know my heart RCSH thank you for that haha!

Spectacular Anniversary Dinner

By Ricky R |

The wife and I celebrated our 20th Anniversary dinner here on the 10th August. The service was excellent. Having booked online I was able to record the dinner as out anniversary dinner and we were greeted with a decorated table and a special card upon arrival. The lobster mac and cheese was excellent. Tender real lobster. The roasted brussel sprouts were divine. Of course the filet and ribeye were equally delicious having been done to order. Can never go wrong with Ruth's Chris.

What a disappointment -- especially for $200.00!! My husband & I are huge fans of this chain but not this particular restaurant. The food & service was mediocre. Don't waste your money.

OHHOTDAMN

By ohhotdamn2015 |

I have gone to Ruth's Chris for what seems like a hundred years. I love the current location and the ambiance much more than the previous location on Richmond. When we arrived Friday evening, I was greeted with a hug from the valet guy that has been there for a hundred years as well, though I hadn't seen him in forever. Our friend who we introduced to Ruth's Chris last year, wanted to go for his birthday. He specifically asked to go for his birthday, which shocked me since we had to pass Killen's steakhouse to get there. He ordered the 40 oz steak!!! I always order the same thing which is the 8 oz petite filet, which is always prepared to my specifications. This is my favorite steakhouse. Although I rarely eat red meat anymore. I enjoyed my Filet. Everyone was happy with the server and our food and drinks. Our reservations were for 6:00 p.m. and we arrived around 5:50 p.m. and waited only briefly. They have a great wine and cocktail selection. We had a great time! Thanks Gaston, you were awesome. I use to have a different waiter that has served me for over 20 years, but she is no longer there.

Such a great experience!

By 4robinc |

This restaurant is top notch in all respects. Great bar scene to start out with, wonderful, melt in your mouth filet mignon and their cheesecake is dangerous. It's so creamy and delicious. I wish I wasn't writing about it because now I want some! You can't go wrong here!

Enjoyable Experience

By D. Gibbs |

Went here 7/15/23 at 4 PM. The food and atmosphere were very good (4.5 stars). Our server (Jose) was excellent (5 stars)!

Delicious food... quite ovepriced

By Travelholism |

The dishs are LARRRRGE and tasty. You can have two people eat on one portion. Food is good and the menu well prepared... you will find whatever you like... Menu is over-priced ... but well, you pay for the venue, the style and the trend

Food served ‘warm’ and poor resolution

By gvken |

Unlike our past visits, our experience this evening was very disappointing. It all started when we had to wait 10 minutes for our table despite arriving at our reservation time, even with the dining room half empty. We had to ask for bread even as the drinks were brought out, and then she brought out one small (cold) loaf for a table of 5. Then we were told the wine we ordered was all gone. After a while, the waitress came back and informed us they were all out of the asparagus side we ordered.. after what seemed like a long time, our salads arrived - that was the only thing they got right. When the steaks arrived after another long wait, there weren’t any sizzle on the ‘hot’ plates and the meat was only warm. In fact all of the steaks and sides were barely warm . We had asked for extra butter on a couple of the steaks but that didn’t happen. The waitress called for the manager to come by and we explained the situation- we didn’t care about any monetary compensation but just wanted to express our disappointment. The manager then said he would have the general manager come by - and that never happened. All they did was remove the cost of the sides and our waitress apologized. Although we’ve had good experiences in the past at this location, this was our last visit there because of the way they handled our situation. There are plenty other fine steak houses in the area.

A Great Landmark Restaurant

By Janet M |

No one does dinner like Ruth's Chris! We love to go for Houston Restaurant Weeks for an outstanding meal an a wonderful cause. The 8-oz filet mignon is the best on the planet! Served on a 500 degree plate, with a side of their signature creamed spinach, is a heavenly experience! I had their French onion soup, and their decadent chocolate cake (like a dozen truffles compressed into a cake shape).

Awesome place for sure steak lovers.

By Gaspard_de_la_nuit |

One of the best steak houses around. Great service, good atmosphere and excellent food. Price is a bit on the higher side, but I really enjoyed my experience.

Over rated steaks.... Everything else great

By Old guy travels |

The ambiance of the new Houston location is extremely nice. Great bar for a drink before the meal. They mix a mean Old Fashioned! Service is very good, welcoming and friendly. The food was good, however my steak although cooked as I asked was swimming in butter. I have eaten at the old location several times and the steak was cooked the same way with copious butter I guess thats their signature way of cooking.... The quality of meat was however very good.

Lovely

By Amberlanikol |

This is a lovely restaurant and beautifully decorated! We made reservations for the evening, so seating was fast! Our server was Dragan, he offered excellent service! The food was fresh, made to order. The drinks were really tasty! The menu is pricey but worth it! Definitely not a everyday place for average dinner. Very nice! Try it! You will be glad you did!!!

Disappointed

By Slfults |

The crab cakes were delicious ~ the wine good. Salad ok ~ steak fatty and my potato must have been cooked at lunch...sides were ok. Service was not good either. Was given a birthday dessert and a cup of coffee 10 minutes later. For the amount of the bill, everything should have been near perfection. We will not return.

Ruth's Chris did not disappoint tonight !

By ThePerrys_10 |

Fair is fair ! We wrote a less favorable review last month but tonight, our experience at Ruth's Chris was exceptional ! Karen, Ruth's Chris Manager, went out of her way to make our evening a very special one Dragan and Giorgio (our favorite waiters/friends) performed their usual excellent service, so friendly and attentive ! The food was outstanding ! Strongly recommend the crab stack, BBQ shrimps, Filet on the bone, mushrooms and chocolate lava cake without forgetting our favorite wine! Ruth's Chris was always one of our favorite restaurants and we are so glad that it is back to the old Ruth's Chris we know and love! The service and the food truly exceeded our expectations this time and we are looking forwards to another enjoyable evening at Ruth's Chris Thanks again to Karen, Dragan and Giorgio ! Sincerely Hal and Joane Perry

Good Steak...albeit a little pricey

By Dave M |

This is a top-line dining experience. Everything you expect a from a white linen restaurant. Given all that, $52.00 bucks for a steak is piling on. I am just back from living overseas, so maybe I am out of touch.

Great Steak

By Ben1013 |

Very crowded Saturday night even with a reservation we had to wait 45 minutes longer to be seated, the food was very very good and Alissa the General Mgr was most gracious in sending complimentary appetizers to our table, enjoyable evening, always a Great Steak

Wonderful as always

By smithsher5 |

The food was wonderful.. The service was great.. My husband ordered the bone in ribeye and I enjoyed the petite filet. They were cooked perfectly and our waiter, Draagor was very attentive. Ruth Chris is our favorite for date night.

Great Happy Hour!

By Kay M |

Went in to check out the Happy Hour. Great appetizers (large portions) for $9 each. Nice choices including burger, steak sandwich, tuna etc. Select drinks and wines are also $9. Very friendly bar service. Enough seating area, including cocktail tables in the loung area. Not loud which was a pleasure.

Go Somewhere Else to Spend Big Bucks

By Wowee_S |

I'm not sure what the big deal is about this place. The steak (we all got the filet) was very good/excellent. I'll give them that. But everything else was just...ok. The creamed spinach is good, but it tastes just like the Stouffer's brand in the frozen section at any grocery store. I'd be hard pressed to guess which one was which. We also got the brussels sprouts. I love them when done right. These? We were told they're sautéed in bacon fat. I hear some of you saying..."bacon fat sounds pretty good to me!" But, that's the overall flavor. Stick your finger in some cold bacon fat, it's much cheaper. Zero nuance to the flavor. The third side we got (FYI - the sides are made big enough to split) was the au gratin potatoes. Again, nothing special. I didn't take a bite and go....wow, this is really good! I thought...meh, I could have easily made these (maybe even from a box--and I don't think of myself as a great cook or anything). Now let's turn to dessert. We decided on the creme brûlée and the chocolate duo dish. The creme brûlée was good, but again...nothing special. I've had much much better. The chocolate duo? The plate comes with a small, moulded round, chocolate cake with an espresso cup on the side with "chocolate mousse" topped with whipped cream. Uh...let's just put it on the table right now (so to speak)...it's not mousse. It's much closer to the pudding family. Not bad for pudding, but I wanted mousse! Finally...the service. We live in Houston, TX--a very diverse city. I have no problem with waiters not understanding me. We both try our best and it usually works out fine. But when I'm paying big bucks at a supposedly top of the line restaurant....no. It doesn't matter what nationality the waiter is, they need to understand what I'm saying. The overall experience at a fine dining restaurant is crucial. For 3 ppl, we paid nearly $400 w/drinks and tip included. Really? It totally wasn't worth it. We won't be back.

Great dining experience

By Fornebu |

Took a group of people here - business connections. We had various food and drinks. Atmosphere is nice. Service ok, but a bit too serious (no smile). anyway, we were all pleased with the various food served, companied with red wine. Well done, but some room for improvements.

An old favorite of the locals

By MNice |

My family from Houston brought me to this cattle country favorite (I’m from Minnesota). Ya, it’s a franchise, but you would never know it; it’s as local as they come. Hey, it’s the little things; my brother has a chronic illness and wears jeans and a T-shirt, they put us in a comfortable place and we’re very respectful. It was my birthday and they gave me a personalized card from all the staff. Very genuine service and people. A cheesecake with a candle for desert. The steaks were awesome, I had a New York Strip. Prepared perfect (I’m a Midwest meat and potatoes guy). Staff accommodating, great food, bread and beverages. Loved it.

Great atmosphere

By pslick |

The food here is good, a little on the pricy side. Loved the fact that the valet is free. . .. .just tip the valet. But at the prices, I can understand why the valet was free. Beautiful and romantic interior and the staff is very thoughtful.

This location maintains the reputation

By Michael R |

The place is awesome, I love the art work, and the location is great if your not staying downtown. It's close enough to downtown without visiting and having to fight for parking etc. The food was great. I have to admit, the really screwed up on my order but Asst. Manager N.D. was excellent and made things ok. I had the crab tower for an apitizer for the first time and loved it. They have a great happy hour at the bar if you don't want to drop a fortune that also includes food and drinks. Try this place, it's easy to get in and out of as I was staying in Sugarland and didn't want to go all the way into downtown for a great meal. Thanks N.D. for making the experience a good one.

Big Mistake

By Jakie C |

I first booked a table at Ruth's Chris Steakhouse for Wednesday, July 16th with "Emily" because I was unable to get the private wine room that I wanted. I ended up calling Emily back to change the date to Monday, July 14th so I could have the private room for 7 to celebrate a VERY special occasion. I tried to give a credit card as they needed a contract but the contract person was not it until Monday. Emily said since this is short notice, don't worry. I called again and said I was not comfortable & again wanted to give a credit card. Response: No, don't worry about it, everything is handled for the Wine Room on Monday night. On Monday night, I walked in and was told YOU do not have a reservation, that I was booked for Wednesday. Emily was off on Monday. I was humiliated as this was a VERY important event with my guests. The room was available but not set up. Set up was started, they "found" someone to wait on us. On Tuesday, no call from anyone @ Ruth's Chris' to address the misunderstanding. I called Emily and asked for an explanation. She said it was all her fault and apologized. I asked for details as to why it happened. She got defensive and sent me to the GM, Jason. He had not heard of the problem until the phone call. The ordeal was not handled properly, No one from Ruth's Chris' called me, I had to call them. I spent alot of money and unfortunately for them, I WILL NEVER GO BACK DUE TO HOW THIS WAS HANDLED. (TECHNICALLY NOT HANDLED). I was married to a man in the restaurant business and know how this should work.

First Wedding Anniversary

By BrianOTV |

We celebrated our one-year wedding anniversary and decided to have dinner at Ruth Chris Steakhouse. We made reservations in advance and did not have to wait long for our table. The table was decorated with rose petals and a personalized card, which had my wife in awe. As usual, dinner was amazing cooked to perfect and the service was top-notch. Thank you for making our day special!!!

We weren't disappointed, the food was delicious and fresh and they made my coworker feel extra special for his birthday. Please stop in for a visit for great service and outstanding entrees

horrible service

worst experience ever and i have been to multiple locations. Being a black man is one things But our server Maurice literally ignored us all night long... but the table with his white customers had all the attention possible it took us almost half an hour for refill

Melts in Your Mouth!

By Andria J |

We've been twice in the last couple of weeks, and both times were great! Not only is the filet well seasoned and delicious, but Ruth's has the best selection of side items. Most steakhouses in Houston don't have that many options. The lobster mac-n-cheese is phenomenal. It's best lobster mac I've ever had, and I've been a lot of places. The sweet potato casserole and spinach au gratin are also fantastic, and almost unheard of most steakhouses. Better than Fleming's, Del Frisco's, etc. We will be back like always!!!

Beautiful birthday celebration

By mikeb. |

Ruth’s Chris pulled out all the stops for my birthday. The best service and food. Our server, Mitchel, went the extra mile. He suggested the bone in fillet seared Pittsburgh style - you really should try it. Their dirty martinis were top shelf but the bar tender was a little miffed I asked for extra olives; which are hand stuffed with blue cheese and delicious. Valet is by tip only and call ahead to pull up. The ambiance was spectacular. My favorite restaurant with a drive.

Don't bother

By RMLipari |

I have had many enjoyable dinners at Ruth's Chris Steakhouses around the country. Unfortunately I can't say the same about the one in my hometown of Houston. On a busy night like Christmas Eve taking the family out to a nice dinner has been our tradition for 20 years. We've gone to some of the finest restaurants in the cities that we have lived in. I had a feeling that on this busy night they weren't going to give a party of eight the best seat in the house. We made our reservation two months in advance and made 2 calls subsequent to that reservation. In each of those calls we wanted to make sure that we were not seated close to the kitchen and that we had a spot in the main dining room. In each instant they assured us that would be the case. I was still a little uneasy I don't know why, but on the day of our reservation my daughter went to check on our seating since she was close. When she got there she was told that we were seated in the auxiliary room right across from the kitchen. She said that that wasn't satisfactory and was told no other seating was available as they were sold out. When we got there I was told the same thing, so we all went and took our seats in the windowless meeting room. After we were seated and settled I went back to the front desk and asked to speak to a manager, I got two managers both were rude and couldn't care less, then I found out that they had in fact lied to us because they offered to set us at a different table. At that point I didn't want to create a fuss and move the family so I declined. Sometimes it doesn't matter if the food is great, there are plenty of choices where food is excellent. It's the staff and the management that usually makes the difference and in this case both fell way short of expectations for a restaurant with Ruth's Chris reputation. Very disappointed for Christmas Eve dinner and will never return.

Birthday for my Mother 90

By douglasstclair2 |

My whole family had dinner to celebrate my Mother’s birthday. It was her 90th. We ordered Calamari seared Ahi Tuna and Spicy shrimp for appetizers. Next we had an assortment of salads and soups including Lobster bisque. We all had steaks and then they brought my mother a candle in ice cream and bread pudding. We also had Creme Brûlée and Cheese cake and a flourless chocolate cake. The waiter was inattentive but one of the busboys named Denzel was great. We said he should be a waiter and they said he already was. Terrific food and steaks!

Disappointed

By Kat |

Many excellent steak houses in Houston. Not this one. I would think the apps and sides would be of equal quality. Not my experience. My $67 tab consisted of Pomegranate Martini which if it had any vodka in it was not evident. Shrimp app was lukewarm and not the sauce I ordered. Grilled asparagus was barely grilled, not trimmed. The hollandaise sauce was served in a cup @ room temp and solid. I won’t be back.

Great Lunch on Friday, December 12th

By starflet63 |

The salad was very good with fresh, cherry tomatoes that were delectable. The rolls were hot and fresh and replenished throughout the meal. The steak was cooked well done as I requested and yet the petite filet meat was very tender with almost no fat. The chocolate explosion cake was very tasty. The valet parking service was excellent with no waiting and very competent staff.

Excellent though pricey

By tripandtravel |

Table for 6 with plenty of room and in the round so we could all talk. Our waitress was excellent and a long time employee so she knew the ropes. Five of us had the steaks the other the sea bass. They have some all inclusive meals that are a great value. All outstanding. Great wine selection both by the bottle and the glass. I don't like it when a service charge is added for 6 or more; especially in a high price, quality restaurant. It's just tacky! Not that the waitress did not deserve it, she certainly did but trust me to do what's right.

Great steak in Houston

By douglasstclair2 |

My wife and mother and I went last Saturday for dinner celebrating my birthday. Great service and sizzling steaks. I had the chopped salad. Very good. My wife and mother split the harvest salad. They enjoyed it. We all had filets served on the famous sizzling plates! We had creamed spinach au gratin and roasted brussels sprouts as sides, excellent. I got a free apple crisp with vanilla ice cream for my birthday celebration. The new location is stunning. You can't go wrong with Ruth's!

NOT FIT FOR A PARTY!

By dj s |

Based on my recent experience I wouldn’t host a party here or attend with a large party. The host of my party didn’t receive information regarding payment options until about an hour before reservation. With the quality of this restaurant it was just a disappointment to hear that they would only split the check 4/5 ways. Which can be an inconvenience to the guests(15 ppl) who find out in such short notice. It was a slight hassle to combine payments and add amounts including gratuity and taxes. I did ask Mr. Randy (server) why was it done that way and basically he stated because they present it more as a banquet style dine in. In other words that’s a way of saying we (the guests) do the hard work at the end. Food was okay. Stuffed chicken was more tasty than the steak in my opinion. Service was good as well as far as refills and having orders come out correct. All questions were answered in regards to the menu. So besides payments options for large parties it was an OK restaurant.

Food great as always. Dress code a bust!

By k2dam2dab |

The website has specifc details re dress code. We called and asked about dress shorts for men and were told no. We turn up and in front of us is a couple and the man is wearing shorts and gets seated. Dress specifcally states no gymwear. A man wearing a grey sweatpants is waiting to be seated. Why have a dress code posted online and at the hostess desk if you are not going to enforce it? Why bother telling people who call up and ask specific questions the wrong answer. This is my only beef with Ruth's Chris. I love the food.

Good, but not great

By harrison9161 |

Our steak, while it was very good, was not as good as the steaks my wife cooks at home. The salad was good, and I was surprised to find I liked the cucumber salad dressing, which I did not order. Our server was pleasant, but not especially attentive. She seemed to disappear for lengthy periods while we were eating. Tea refills waited awhile. Convenient location, with parking behind the building, if you don't use valet parking. Nice ambience. Expensive, everything a la carte. The overall experience, I regret to say, was probably not worth the money.

Excellent Food and Service

By L_Chalmers_Tx |

The food and service at this restaurant are excellent. Not only were all the steaks superb and perfectly cooked as ordered, but the salads, sides and desert were also excellent. Wait staff is attentive without being intrusive. Dinner was everything you want a fine dining experience to be. I will definitely make a point to eat here every time I'm in Houston.

our experience was not the best

By skylanders |

First off, our grandson was excited to go for the mac and cheese, they have added lobster to it.....What? that is horrible, he is l0 and it was a favorite there, to many people have shell fish allergies, what are they thinking. My bbq shrimp was swimming in oil and on top of mash potatoes which was a soggy mess..couldn't tell they were bbq. Daughters steak was horrible, waited long time and then to send back when everyone was eating wasn't a good idea.. I have been to the one in Fort Worth and found it tons better. We had a good time as we were visiting family but I wouldn't go back. Only good thing was the sweet potatoe casserole... disappointed.

Buyer beware!

By David L |

Went here June 29th for desert and two shots of Mccallum 18 year. We pay $29.00 per shot here in Orlando and thought it would be the same in Houston. Ordered two shots and it was $59.00 per shot and no pricing on bar menu. Completely dishonest as would not have ordered if we knew the price. Both managers refused to do anything about our complaint. And acted like we were stupid. Have been a customer of Ruth's Chris for almost 40 years. This has to be against the law somewhere.

Excellent Texan Steak House

By Carlos Q M |

Located near the Galleria and near several good hotel, this restaurant provides a good service. My choice was the New York Steak and was perfect. One of the bests I have ever tasted. Price is high, so be prepared.

Good food

By 357virginiad |

This used to be my number one steak place, but I've found others I prefer. Very clubby atmosphere. Good wine selection, great gin & tonic. The steaks used to be outstanding, but I've grown tired of the production (bringing the steak on a sizzling platter/holding the napkin in front of me to protect from splatters). And, I've found consistently better steak elsewhere.

Where's the beef?

One of the most tasty steak restaurant in Houston. Nice elegant atmosphere, cozy but can be pricey for everything is a la carte.

Ruth Chris Steakhouse in Houston. Two Thumbs Up!

By Dennis S |

The Ruth Chris Steakhouse located on Westheimer in Houston, TX serves an overall excellent fresh tasting meal. The steak house starter salad had just picked fresh tasting baby lettuces with grape tomatoes and garlic croutons. I ordered a sizzling 11 oz. USDA Prime Filet Mignon (Angus Beef) following Ruth Chris's 28 day ageing process cooked to medium with perfection. Side dishes included mashed potatoes, cream spinach and broccoli. All side dishes were excellent and disappeared from my plate after eating. Desert consisted of a Chocolate Sin Cake with Raspberry sauce. Service was excellent as well.

Sloppy and uncaring service

By Reagan S |

I went to this Ruth's Chris the week of 9-1-16 and it will likely be my last visit. I've eaten at Ruth's Chris for years when it was on Richmond and now at the new location. I have noticed the food has fallen off a bit here and there but this last time, the service was the absolute deal killer. We wanted to sit in the bar to watch a football game and thats where the problems began and ended. We ordered cocktails, then appetizers, asked for a wine list. Before our cocktails came, the appetizers were on the table, piled and crowded into a very frustrating and disorganized fashion, shoved in front of me as I tried to read the wine list that had arrived about 10-15 minutes after asking for it. We never ordered a bottle since the food would be coming too soon to allow a nice bottle to fully develop and open up. They lost at least $100-150 on that mistake alone. The entrees arrived to find a cluttered table full of dirty appetizer dishes, various other dirty plates, bread crumbs and anything else that had ever been brought to the table. The food runner began to continue to pile the food plates around on the table without first clearing out the dirty dishes or making any effort to clean up before our entrees and sides were put on the table. We cleaned and stacked dishes ourselves, sat them on the side of the table and finally another server wandered by and picked them up. We were never asked for a second cocktail and just had to stop someone to serve us a glass of wine to have with out dinner. From that point on about 4-5 total servers were in and out of the bar area and not a single person just stopped to attend to our needs. We got finished, stopped a server or bus-person and they packaged up our food, we asked for our check and waited. And waited. We got the check and waited. And waited. Finally my dinner companion went outside with the valet ticket and I went to the bar to pay the tab. I complained to the bartender, left an insultingly small ( but very fair ) tip and went about my exit. Got home and the to go food was a mess. Containers the wrong size were overflowing, the fat I had cut from my steak was in the container, the sides were mixed together in one container, etc. Overall the food wasn't bad at all. But, it was nothing special. Most of these items were service related and each is a minor issue, but when you add them all together it makes for a very frustrating and unpleasant evening and NOT the way I would chose to spend $300. for dinner. And remember, that's WITHOUT a bottle of wine and NO offer of a second cocktail.... Considering the HUGE number of steakhouses in that category in just a 5 minute radius, there's simply no need for dealing with any of this from Ruth's Chris when you can have your pick of so many of their better competitors. I have a long and familiar history with this restaurant but it has now run it's course and I will not be returning. On another note, I have called the restaurant twice since that evening. Once, there was no answer and the call went to voicemail - around 6 p.m. so they were definitely open but probably not yet busy... the other time I called and left my name and number because I was told a manager was not readily available but would call me back.

Poor service in private dining, but the creme brule was great

f you are going to take a reservation for a party in the 'wine gallery room,' then why would you provide sub-par service?! My family had reservations for my aunt's birthday dinner on Friday night. There were eight of us. We arrived on-time for our 7:30 reservation and ordered a round of cocktails. We were informed by the waiter that the bar was backed up and it would take a while, so he asked if we wanted to order appetizers. 20 minutes after ordering, still no drinks. My boyfriend went to speak to the manager and drinks came out a few minutes later with our appetizers/salads following closely. The waiter said, 'I highly recommend you order bottles of wine since the bar is running so behind.' Which surely did not come off the way he intended, but because we did not order bottles he never asked if I wanted another cocktail or glass of wine. The waiter could have easily sold another round or two of drinks to our party, or at least a bottle of wine/glasses with our meal. The food was good, but in a city of good food-- service is paramount. Bad service in this category is reason enough to not return. When a guest in your private room reports an issue to a manager, a manager should at least come by the table to check on how the meal is progressing. There was no such check-in. I read other similar complaints about service in the upstairs wine room. Again, why offer premium seating for a group if it does not come with premium (or at least good) service. Food: tomato salad 4 stars, lamb 4 stars, creme Brule 5 stars.

Wedding anniversary

My husband and I were celebrating our wedding anniversary. He made reservations for us to dine here. Once we arrived to our table they had roses on the table sprinkled around and a card that stated happy anniversary. It was a really nice and romantic setting. The food was amazing our waiter Mitchel was really really nice he really took great care of us. Its a pretty expensive restaurant but worth it once in a while to dress up which is one of the restaurants requirements which is fine by me. We will be back!

I don't like to do bad reviews, but

I've eaten at Ruth's Chris for years around the country and in Houston with satisfaction. The experience tonight was like eating a $200 meal at Luby's Cafeteria. I thought I could always depend on a certain experience. Food less than average. Service average. No elegance. This restaurant has gone on my "Last Time" List.

Christmas Day

Failed to honor reservations. Over booked. Bisque was almost warm, fries were cold and sent back. Meat was tender and tasty. Wine way over-priced. One stall in the Ladies room was out of toilet paper. There are better steak houses in Houston that served great food with good service.
