No exception from greatness

By LoBoexp |

The food was excellent as most Ruth Chris. Our waiter was fabulous. We were not in a hurry and he spaced everything out so that we could enjoy some drinks. It's a bit price as we spent of $300 for 2 off us. (4 drinks each) I wouldn't hesitate to go back.

Great Steak

Delicious dinner with dietary restrictions!!

By Melissa L |

Olivia greeted us and very welcoming!! I have severe dietary issues of gluten & sucrose. Kim, our waitress was energetic & friendly connected with John the dining room manager. John took my dinner order with much care & concern. My appetizer of calamari & shrimp, petite filet and asparagus was cooked with personal concerns to my restrictions!! John and Kim were friendly and wanted me to enjoy my meal without serious discomfort. Great experience here with Olivia, Kim and John!! I appreciate your concern and hospitality!

This is an Unhelpful Review

By hoholmes |

I don't think this review will be of much help, but will lay it out there anyway. Three family members, all experienced steakhouse diners, paid a visit to Ruth Chris' in downtown Philly. We started off with fried calamari, which was very good. Our chopped salad was deceivingly big, enough to feed two of us. And the dressing was very good. Now the tough part; we decided to each order something different and share. Have to mention that our first choice was a 16 oz rib-eye, but they were out of it. How can a steakhouse be out of steak ? Anyway, dinner number one was a 16 oz bone-in filet cooked medium. The piece of meat was out of this world, and cooked to perfection. Dinner number two was the mahi tuna, again, cooked to perfection and one of the best I have had outside of Hawaii. The third was the 22 oz Cowboy rib-eye with a side of bbq sauce. The cut of meat was no better than one would get at a lower level chain steak establishment, and it was cooked very inconsistent throughout. And the bbq sauce was average at best. The sides of mashed potatoes and creamed spinach were very good. Have to note the crème brulee was excellent. If one was to give a rating based on the first two dishes above, it would be 'excellent.'. The third dish would be 'average.' Therefore, we decided an overall of 'very good' was appropriate.

My worst experience at a Ruth's Chris

By TacoYeti |

I like Ruth's Chris because I can count on a good steak no matter where I am. This location was a major disappointment. I got a bad cut of meat the was poorly cooked. The side dish was dry and tasteless. Waitstaff did the bare minimum.

The chief is cooking for himself not the guest.

By Rosann W |

The service and atmosphere was perfect. 5 steaks all prepared by the chief the same way. Well done. We order the steaks to our liking and the chief ignored our request. We will not return.

Dessert/coffee

By Linda1327 |

We were staying at the Sonesta so we stopped for dessert after a concert. Desserts were wonderful, the female bartender was racist-it was appalling what we witnessed and how she treated a couple that came in. It was blatant racism. We are white, the young couple was African American. We were so disturbed at what we saw!

Sophisticated and elegant.

By KDSoccer2 |

The surf and turf was delicious. Very upscale restaurant featuring an a la cart menu. Would be good for a birthday or anniversary dinner.

Everything over salted

By Lsbtravel1 |

Although the decor of this steakhouse chain branch in Center City is attractive the service is not quite tuned and I needed to ask twice for breadbasket, mayo and ice tea refill. The Caesar salad was fine but the crab cake sandwich and especially the fries were loaded with salt and left a very unpleasant taste in my mouth

The best !!!!

By Monique Y |

Andre Singleton the restaurant manager was absolutely amazing . He was very attentive, knowledgeable, courteous and polite. He also made sure to be informative about the different ways to order the steak . I highly recommend this restaurant. Service A1 , food A1 and the drinks were beyond excellent. Thank you and be sure to ask for him .

Excellent Food

By ChelleBelle294 |

Loved everything from service to food. We had drinks & two excellent steak dinners. I've never had an experience I didn't like at Ruth's Chris Steak House.

First time in the new space

By David G |

Service was very attentive. Ever so slight slip in returning with the refills on the Arnold Palmers but true races on the 3 sea bass specials for lunch. The APs did arrive about 5 minutes later. Forgivable. Remember it is $$$$.

Mommy and mini dessert date

By Lydz |

MOMMY review Ruth Chris is best known as a steak house, but mini and I decided to try out dessert for our last mommy-daughter date. The ambiance, whether for dinner, or the happy hour is always top notch and the staff at this location were no different. Immediately greeted and offered menus and water we ordered bread pudding and the apple crumble. Mini accompanied hers with some water and I got the coconut ginger lime martini. Everything was wonderful. In general, their bread pudding is a little more moist than I like, but paired with their sweet cream sauce the dryer parts are still scrumptious. The apple crumble had a wonderful crusty-shortbread flavor and was complimented with a dollop of ice cream and drizzled in caramel sauce. Both desserts were sweetened just enough too, which was nice touch and didn’t make me feel like I would need to have my daughter drink a gallon of water afterwards. When my martini arrived I thought it was super sweet that the waiter also brought a piece of sugared ginger for mini to try as that was the garnish in my drink. Great food and service! MINI Review This is such a great place to be as I feel like we are having a tea party whenever we go. I love their bread pudding and mom likes that the table is never sticky. The waiter was nice and brought me the ginger which tasted like candy! Can’t wait to go back.

Great steaks during a business lunch

By Ntrekker |

The place is well done and huge. We were given a booth that was really well designed so you can have a great conversation. The service was excellent. The ribeye was excellent. Great for a business lunch since service is fast and efficient. Will return!

Typical Ruth Chris

By Oh Danny boy |

We went for lunch and only the bar area was open. The bar area has regular seating. Our food was quite good. I had the cheese burger with bacon and egg which was a different combo but it works. We also had the steak and shrimp which was cooked to perfection. We used to go to the old location when we lived in the area which we thought had better atmosphere.

Lunch at Ruth's Chris

By James Y |

We celebrated our 43rd anniversary at Ruth's Chris and were not disappointed. We were well attended to and everyone was mindful of our needs. Our food was very good and they gave us dessert and coffee with no charge for our anniversary. We highly recomend this restaurant..

Great meal in a Relaxed Enviroment

By Robert C |

While staying at the Market St Sonesta we had dinner at Ruth Chris's on Father's Day. We have a Ruth Chris in CT and knew we would have a good meal. I had Chilean sea bass which I found a little too sweet with the mango and fruit added. My wife had a filet with grilled shrimp which she really enjoyed. We did have a stacked crab app which was delicious. The pieces of crab meat were some of the biggest I've ever had. My wife had summer vegetables with a blue cheese crumble that was also very good. The restaurant has many different rooms and it gives you the feeling of dinning a lone. The service was good and we had a very relaxed meal.

Great food !

By Helen M |

We have just eaten here and it was really good. The food is well seasoned and the portions are huge. There is an extensive wine list. We had a cheaper one but it had a good taste. Service at our table was very good but I did hear a waiter apologise to two men and say he was only joking so what happened I cannot comment on. It's only 4 stars for me due to two reasons. The first one being the upsell of food at the beginning. I can easily add extras if I want. The second one is when we arrived the hostess was talking to a member of staff suddenly realised we were there and apologised but for me as this is a restaurant that is quite expensive does why does the hostess have to wear a hoody. Is this really appropriate for this type of clothing for this type of establishment"

A fab place to eat in Philadelphia

By Jane N |

We have eaten in these restaurants before but this one was amazing. The atmosphere of the place. The staff were so friendly and helpful. Our waitress was Liz and she was wonderful. The steaks are done just as you like them - watch out for the sides as they are big but the waitress warns you anyway so that you don't over order. We have found this sort of service rare but it exists here. Well worth a visit.

Ribeye was SUPERB!!!

By casjosh |

From the moment I walked into this beautiful restaurant to the moment I walked out I enjoyed my experience. We had a reservation and on a very busy Saturday night we were seated within 5 mins to a quaint table. The wait staff could not have been more attentive. My partner is a vegetarian and the waiter outlined all possibilities. And the ribeye!! It was DELICIOUS! Cooked to perfection with an amazing taste that I have yet to beat. I have tried ribeyes at other fine restaurants in the area, and none have surpassed Ruth's Chris.

Filet & Creme Brûlée

By Gina Watson |

Dinner was so good. We ordered the petite filet, cremini mushrooms, mashed potatoes, and a baked potato. We had the blueberry mojito and a margarita at the bar. They were both great. For dessert we had the creme brûlée which was out of this world.

Classy, Romantic....Pricey...(Food Average)

By Lindah0220 |

$175.00 for 2. We did not go overboard. A glass of wine each, $13. @ Our waiter, George, was attentive and gave excellent service, and showed up with delicious warm rolls and butter. He gave a big announcement not to touch the hot plates, and he wasn't kidding. Our Shrimp Barbeque app was 5 average shrimp, served with some tasty sauce $17., Our 2 petite filets $40. @, were both slightly overcooked. Our Mac and lobster arrived alittle less warm than it might have, it was good, but needed alittle more salt and alittle more lobster. The lobster was a bit tough $19. We shared an apple tart, which was meh, the crust heavy, and not enough icecream to last with every bite. Coffee and tea. $175.00. $36.00 tip. The restaurant itself, is beautiful. If we were to go again, we would definitely stick to meal deals or maybe lunch, keeping in mind that the opulent atmosphere and personal attention we greatly enjoyed surpassed the meal itself.

SALTY SPINACH

By AuroraontheRoad |

We had a quick lunch while attending a conference. We tried the duck raviolis that came with spinach. RAVs were good BUT the spinach was super super salty.

The New Ruth's Chris Steakhouse at 18th and Market, located in the Sonesta Hotel!

By Cappy2200 |

This is a brand new Ruth's Chris! All new interior finish and new wait staff...same delicious food. We had Filet, which comes out on a sizzling plate, which was amazing and tender....perfectly cooked! Crabcakes, and wedge salads. The bar tender, Phil, came from another great Philly Restaurant and is a seasoned professional. So he made sure drinks, and food were spot on.

I Should Have Known Better

By GWsugar |

First let me say I usually never go out to dinner on Valentines-Day or Mothers- Day, because restaurants simply can’t handle the volume of people with their usual top notch food or service, and Ruth Chris was no exception for Valentines weekend on Saturday night. They squeezed people in every space possible. Setting up these extra rows of little round tables for couples in the middle of the dining room, with a parade of servers marching up and down these narrow rows, past these little tables, trying to wait on people. One server’s butt hit our table in passing, we had to hold it still so our waters and drinks didn’t spill. I made reservations back in December and the restaurant called us the afternoon of the reservation to confirm, so when seated at this little table in the middle of the room, we decided not to get upset. We eat out enough on the regular, so we just laughed our way through it. It was amusing watching the faces of people as they sat them at these tables, so much for the romantic valentines Saturday night dinner, lol. Our cocktails, the raspberry rosemary cosmos’s were very good though, as well as our salads, hubby had a Caesar and I had the harvest. However, our entrée’s not so much. I had the valentine special of surf and turf, the filet was well done, not medium as ordered, and hubby’s Chilean sea bass was dry, but my lobster tails were good. This was our first visit back at Ruth Chris since they moved from Broad Street in Philadelphia, so we are contributing this negative revisit to the usual Valentine’s Day Dinner Disaster. I should have known better.

Birthday Dinner - George was Excellent !!

By delas86 |

Kinda late writing this but I had too.....So I visited Ruth Chris on November 18, for my birthday. We had a reservation and was seated immediately. I love this location! (from where they were previously in Philly) Our waiter was George. He was wonderful and he really made my night. My favorite thing was the crab friend rice! I was nervous to order it because I wasn't sure if I would like it since I'm so picky. But it was great. Great to the point that I wish I could call and order it for pick up for lunch sometimes. The steaks were cooked to perfection and everyone was really nice.

Ruth would not approve.......

By JonnyR1 |

What a disappointment. 6 of us for what we thought would be a fine dining feast. Unfortunately there were plenty of misses. Steaks came out and 5 got their steak and clear one wasn't ordered......waited so long for the steak to arrive everyone else had pretty much finished their steaks. Sides weren't all delivered on time. Drink glasses empty for too long. Utensils just dropped as a bunch in the middle of the table. Just not the level service that should be offered at a Ruth Chris. Sad to see. Got a sorry for the late steak and nothing more - amateur hour by the manager.

Not the best

By 13bella2015 |

When I go to Ruth's Chris I expect to get a melt in your mouth filet because of the price you pay. It was good, just not as good as what I usually get at Longhorn Steakhouse for half the price. The wine, spinach and French fries were all good as well as the service. We were not ideally dressed for our dinner but it was a hectic day and we went as we were. I don't think the hostess appreciated it because she first tried to seat us in the bar at a high table. It was loud and crowded so we asked not to be seated in there. She next tried to put us back in the bar but at a low table. We had to repeat our request to be seated somewhere quieter for dinner and conservation. The hostess didn't look happy having to seat us with here usual diners. She still put us out of site but it was a wonderful sofa like table.

When the customer provides the tools needed

By Jason M |

When the customer provides the tools needed to make the dinning experience the best it can be..and those options are either not presented to the chef or the Chef is way to egotistical to take those options..we are presented with what happened Saturday 10-19-19 @6pm to be exact. We order a bottle of wine..the wonderful waitress Whom was extremely detail oriented & ultimately very apologetic, told us the specials, we then order some Calamari in a sweet sauce almost like Chinese duck sauce with a twang..these were very good but we had our eyes on the prize.... a steak !! Her's, a Petite Filet med rare, asparagus & brown rice with crab meat sides Mine a truffle butter topped regular filet Med well..Here is where is conveyed the options. "please allow the chef to butterfly the meat if its a fat cut to help retain some of the juices" she says "oh our chefs don't really need to they are really good" I say "ok, well the option is there, i will leave it up to the experts" (That was the KIss of death) Lets cut to the chase ..My steak came out bloody, her steak was perfect I said please eat... "OMG I'm so sorry sir " Now did she not tell the kitchen or did the kitchen falter? either way the 2nd time it wasn't right & the manager saw it wasn't correct.. Yes the $50 steak was free... but I couldn't enjoy the meal or experience with my date .. Irritates me to no end.

Outstanding!

By LILY306 |

I stayed at Sonesta Hotel and I was thrilled to finally try Ruth Chris restaurant out. It blew my mind the service and quality of food. I personally recommend brunch. I look forward to going there soon.

Good stakes and great atmosphere.

By blissbreath |

We tried different stake menus and we all enjoy them. The server name Steve was caring and friendly. Only the hostess seems unhappy, may need to practice smiling. Restaurant was clean, well organized and have a lot of space and tables.

Bucket list, check

By therese l |

I've always wanted to visit a Ruth's Chris, so when a business trip landed me next door to the one in Philly, I decided to splurge. When you visit a nice restaurant as a single woman of a certain age, you expect to receive certain kinds of treatment, and Ruth's Chris did not disappoint. While the couple who entered just behind me had reservations for their wedding anniversary were shown to their choice of tables, I was shuttled from the main dining room to the bar. Where I waited for a server. And only was given an actual menu instead of the happy hour specials when I asked for it. That said, once my server did appear, she was quite friendly and efficient. I had the prix fixe dinner. The servings were generous and the food good - not great, but no complaints. Maybe the steak and spinach were a little salty, but I've been doing low salt at home, so that could be my own taste buds adapting. I've heard people say Ruth's Chris was "the best steak I ever had" but I'm not quite so enthusiastic. It was very good, though!

Family Dinner

By Garet P |

My family and I were staying in the Sonesta, the hotel in which the Ruth's Chris is located, and decided to make reservations for dinner. Our waiter, George, was one of the most attentive, funny, and wonderful waiters I have ever had the pleasure to meet. The jokes he quipped, the recommendations he made- it was all perfect. I had the filet, cooked perfectly to a medium, as did my father. My sister enjoyed the vegetarian special, namely her baked potato, and my mother had the crab cakes. The sides truly are huge, and we felt bad that we had left so much uneaten! We ordered the normal fries, potatoes au gratin, and the lobster mac 'n cheese. It was all good. For dessert, we had the creme brûlée and the apple crumble. There was not a bite left of the dessert. Yes, the bill was large, but that is to be expected at a fine restaurant like Ruth's Chris. I would return every night if I could. It was a great night, and I truly do think George made the experience even better.

Philadelphia Visit

By Jim1008 |

We were waiting for family from Paris, France and Ruth’s Chris was within the Sonesta Hotel where we were staying. Another excellent meal! I had the 8oz filet and my wife the Lobster. Food was prepared as usual to their excellent standards. Service was fine!

Impeccable Service

By Bilal Motley |

Ruth Chris has an excellent staff. They are attentive and aim to please. The food is incredible! Zero complaints. FYI: do not drive into the city. Catch a cab/uber/train etc.

Amazing food & nice staff

By Amber M |

The staff at this Ruth's Chris location was so friendly that we ended up eating there 3 out of 5 days we stayed at the Sonesta hotel!! Obviously they have great food but the first night we were seated by the bartender since she seen we were tired from a long drive and having our 3 young children with us. She gave us tips on local places to eat breakfast & fun stuff for the kids. Went back with the kids for lunch two days later and the manager John was really friendly and offered a free dessert for the kids... then we did dinner the next night following a shortened outdoor concert due to rain & cold weather, our waiter Carter was great even though he was busy. They went above & beyond when it seems most high end restaurants get annoyed when you walk in with kids. They made meal time easy for us when traveling and their kids meals are not pricey, it was a great experience every time! I forget the bartenders name but everyone there was super nice, you won't be disappointed when dining here!

Graduation Celebration!!

By William L |

In celebration of my son graduating from Temple University, the family headed for Ruth's. Made reservation on open table and got a free meal for the graduate. We all had steaks prepared to our liking. Service by George was top notch, they gave us a private booth and the staff was very friendly, stopping by to give congrats to the grad. Special place made a special meal even better. Kudos George and staff.

Not happy with Ruth or Chris

By Carmellatte |

I frequent Ruth Chris in the DMV area and have always enjoyed their food and service. This Ruth Chris in Philly is definitely not fine dining. It’s connected to the Sonesta Hotel. It was a Friday evening around 8 o’clock wasn’t crowded and we didn’t have a reservation, but we’re seated within 2 to 3 minutes. Our waiter started off good but once we put our order in, we had to keep requesting from other wait staff what we needed or have them go get our waiter. We got better service from the bus boy that was coming by and taking plates and stuff away. I know the guys name that waited on us, but I don’t wanna say it here just in case maybe he was just having a bad night. I don’t know if because of the bad service we didn’t even enjoy the food as much, but definitely was not pleased. Unfortunately, his tip was based on the service he gave we actually end up tipping the bus boy cash because he was good. Oh the best part of the meal was my Moscow Mule bartender was definitely on point!

Very happy Happy Hour

By bk-mom |

We have become regulars at Ruth Chris' Happy Hour offered every nite except Sat from 5:00-6:30. Great burgers and a "real" not shaved, steak sandwich, and other full entrees all priced at $9. A great selection of drinks is also $9. The best bargain in Philly. You go away full and pay a fraction of the cost of a regular dinner at Ruth Chris.

Steak cooked right and served hot and Juicy

By Alan L |

The steaks were great. However, when the waiter warns the plates are hot, they will give you a blister if you touch them. The medium rare steak was exactly cooked to perfection. The salaud wedge was just right. The lobster mac and cheese dish was large enough to serve four people with generous amounts of lobster. Only down side was that the wine was not served until it was asked for a second time after the steaks were served.

Twice a year!!

By reednikki |

Restaurant week happens twice a year in philly every time we go to Ruth's Chris'. So worth the money. My husband & I both got filet mignon, garlic mash potatoes, ceasar salad & I had a cinnamon honey cheesecake. I am so mad at my tiny stomach as I wasn't able 2 finish my steak or my cheesecake, my husband had 2 finish my steak for me. Our server Denise was amazing, funny, polite & knowledgeable. My only complaint about our Ruth's Chris experience is that restaurant week is ONLY twice a year, I wish it was once every quarter. We will defiantly return at the next RW in January or February. If you visit Philly for the Pope's visit please visit Ruth's Chris for dinner & enjoy!!!!

Close but off the mark

By GBfromNY |

My wife and I were in town for a show and staying overnight at the Sonesta so decided to have dinner at Ruth's Chris Steakhouse which we have been to at other locations many times but this was our first time here. We were greeted warmly, shown to a nice table in an attractive setting. We settled in and had a terrific waiter, Norman, greet us. After reviewing the menu we ordered, pretty basic stuff salads, rib eye steaks and dessert. Salads were very tasty, but when the steaks arrived mine was fine however my wife had asked for her's to be cooked medium and what was delivered was well done - brown all the way through. We brought this to the attention of the waiter who acknowledged and apologized and offered to get a replacement - which is always a bother and we were time pressed due to the show we were attending but we said okayand shared my steak until the replacement steak cooked medium arrived. Unfortunately when it did arrive it was rare (not medium, niot medium-rare, just rare.) At that point we were out of time so back that went. The waiter summoned the manager who offered a half-hearted apology and offered to buy us a drink which we declined. When the waiter brought the check he also brought two "Rattlesnakes" some type of after dinner drink that we did not ask for or want - it was his attempt to compensate but not what we wanted. Despite receiving 3 steaks, only one of which we ate we were charged for two and having at that point run out of time we simply p[aid and left. A very disappointing experience when a steakhouse cannot properly cook a steak even with two attempts.

Just Not Good!

By Kenneth L |

The new location in the Sonesta Hotel is casual and lackadaisical. The food suffers from the casual vibe and event he classics such as the BBQ Shrimp and Lobsters (No Tank) and crab cakes that were staples of t5he old place on Broad Street are a distant memory. The only memorable item was the French Fries and the $8 dollar trio of dipping sauces that was surprisingly satisfying. The Steaks were over seasoned and undercooked and the service was intrusive and predictable and they surely were pushing the higher priced items. Will not be back!!!!

Amazing Food

By nataliewebb513 |

Came for 'Happy Hour' in March, we shared the burger, chicken burger and shrimp and it was amazing!!! Probably the best burger i've ever had and was totally reasonable. Off the top of my head i think the dishes were $7-$9 each during happy hour but would still be more then happy to pay the normal price of $18-$20 for these as they were so good. Also had a few cocktails which were lovely and some beers. Didn't eat from the main menu at all but based on the food we had i can imagine it is just as nice. Although a chain i would totally recommend coming here, it was clean, the decor was nice and just a good atmosphere. Also came back for drinks late one night just before going to bed and was seated at the bar this time. Still enjoyed our experience then too.

Beautiful new location with same old high priced food.

By nolantho |

The restaurant moved from the Broad st. location three weeks ago into a spectacular new location on 18th and Market. Everything is up and running smooth. The food is pretty much the same. I ordered the petite rib eye medium rare. It arrived blazing hot swimming in way to much butter and over seasoned especially with salt. By the time it was cool enough to eat, it had cooked itself to well done. There is really no excuse for a high end restaurant to make such a mistake. My wife and the wife of the other couple had the crab cakes which they enjoyed. However the crab cakes don't measure up to what you can find on the eastern shore of Maryland. Some lump crab on the top and too much filler buried below. Also swimming in toooo much butter. The husband of the other couple enjoyed an excellent piece of Chilean Sea Bass. The calamari was quite good and the Brussels spouts and asparagus were average. The creme brulee and ice cream was just ok. The wine list is extensive and very pricey. Our server George was delightful, well trained and experienced. Sorry but we expect more in the food area than what we received out of this high priced restaurant.

Disappointing Dinner

By Lisa W |

We have enjoyed meals at Ruth’s Chris locations around the US, and the Philadelphia location is subpar. Met friends for dinner tonight and we ordered the Lobster Bisque and sent it back! Spicy flavored water served with a skim on top. Crab cakes were delicious but Petit Ribeye had so many of those white tube-things throughout and heavily doused with pepper! So difficult to eat and not enjoyable at all. Couldn’t eat it! Expensive meal and definitely not Ruth’s Chris quality!

Too expensive.

By kadiabear |

It's just not wort the expense. We wouldn't return to this restaurant. Definately don't go if you're not going to order steak.

Close but NO cigar!

By Don F |

I must say the service was really really good, We had a reserved room which a lot of good restaurants don't do! However for this being a Steak House, The Steak was not that good at all not even close! The Lobster bis was much too salty. The best fact that your main course does not include your sides is CRAZY! For the outrages prices, what you get is ridiculous! I'll take average service for great food any day! Again the Service was GREAT but the food I'd give a "D".

Great Meal - very expensive

By JC1090 |

I have been to many Ruth Chris Steak Houses and it is always a great meal. My filet was cooked perfectly!! The wait staff were very friendly. Expect to spend a lot, but it is a fun dinning experience.

A Steak Heaven!

By technologypaul |

My wife and I were blessed to have Liz as our professional waiter. We were made to feel welcome and special. We enjoyed Poterhouse for two along with some amazing cocktails and appertizers. Dessert was amazing. We have been turned on to Ruth's Chris Steak House and will go back to a local restaurant near where we love. Keep up the great work!

Nice lunch at bar.

By 5reillys1975 |

As usual food and service excellent. This newly opened Ruth’s Chris totally meets their high standards.

Puts every other steak to shame

By Whosthatguy |

To say that Ruth Chris' was a disappointment is like saying 2+2=5, it just isn't true. From the moment we walked in, we were greeted by wonderful, kind professional staff who were very responsive and attentive to our needs. The wine was delicious, a good Riesling cannot be beaten. As a person who is not fond of fish, the mushrooms stuffed with crab meat were to die for, I did not eat the shrimp but empty plates means something. The New York strips were to cooked to perfection and the filet for the other person in our party looked divine. The gratin potatoes, steak cut fries and mushrooms were a great accompaniment to four quality pieces of prime American beef. As an Irish person, Irish beef is hard to top but this was perfect. The dessert was magnificent, chocolate is chocolate but amazing does not suffice. Drinks at the bar after topped of a wonderful evening at Ruth Chris' Philadelphia. Well worth every penny.

Nothing Better

By Lisa L |

I was visiting Philadelphia with friends and we were staying at The Sonesta Hotel. Ruth's Chris is attached to the hotel. We have a Ruth's Chris at home in West Palm Beach Florida and love it. We used the bar ad our final stop each night for dessert and night caps. I can't begin to tell you how much fun we had with the bartenders and the wait staff. Everyone was so friendly. It was as if we were visiting family. Every night they would ask us where we had been during the day and give us ideas of things to do the following day. We would report back each night and let them know how grateful we were for their local knowledge and input into our trip. Drinks are wonderful and desserts are amazing. I had no idea they serve an individual cheesecake and not just a slice.

Best Steak Ever!!

By tammynates |

We were treated a special table to ourselves, which was wonderful. The staff was excellent. They were very professional and checked on us often. The steaks that we ordered were cooked to perfection. Perfect meal!! We also visited the bar area several evening and enjoyed food and drinks at the bar. Very nice atmosphere. Will go back again!!

Not the best Ruth's Chris experience

By Jao988 |

My wife and I have been to many Ruth's Chris restaurants throughout the country. We decided to visit this location for Valentine's Day. Some people might say that it's not the best day to visit a restaurant for the first time, but hey I'm paying the same that day as any other day, so I shouldn't expect a lesser experience. First, as mentioned in another review, apparently extra tables were setup to accommodate the holiday crowds. Well that was a big mistake, as tables were so close together it was hard not to overhear other conversations. In addition, the aisles between tables were only large enough for one person to pass at a time. I too witnessed the backside of a waiter way too close to my table. Our table which was at the end of a row of booths, would have been nice, if it hadn't been oriented so the we were both looking directly at another table for two about 3' away at the most. this table was so close that we actually engaged in conversations with them a couple of times. Nice people, but awkward at best and certainly not what you're looking for on a date. In addition, we were seated under a light which was intermittently flickering throughout our meal. When brought to the waiters attention, we were told someone would stop by to address it. No one did, no visit by a manager at all. Eventually, by the end of the meal, the flickering stopped, but again no attempt from management to address the issue. The food was good as usual, service was fine, waiter fine but not memorable. The layout of the restaurant was a bit odd, including restrooms that were actually outside the restaurant in a common space within the hotel lobby. The decor was not up to the level of other Ruth's Chris locations, including the nearby King of Prussia location. Upon leaving, we commented to the hostess the problems we experienced and were greeted with a blank stare and no effort to even get a manager. A day later, my wife and I were still discussing the disappointment of this visit. We're used to a Ruth's Chris experience where every staff member was doing their utmost to make our visit the best it can be, no matter what the circumstances. That was not the case this time.

Splendid Evening

By LauraBee |

It had been a very long time since I went to a Ruth Chris. Decades, in fact. As it turned out, we were staying at the hotel for a conference and decided to treat ourselves, so I made a reservation through Open Table and we were able to get a good time. We were enjoying our time, but there was a very large and loud party right next to us. Now, you never want to be too complaining of others having a more raucous good time than you are (hey, it was just my husband and myself), but I think the waitstaff was aware of this party, as when they finally left and the atmosphere calmed down - they actually comped our dessert later, with no questions asked or even a request being made. They also apologized a bit, although I said - hey, they were having a good time. No apology necessary. Anyway, the food was amazing - my steak was truly a melt in the mouth experience and you plainly cannot beat that. Our sides were sharable and the drinks we had were expertly made. The dessert was not quite a butter cake, but it, too, was divine. You end up sated and floating out of a meal here, but that's not a bad thing, as long as you don't eat this way every evening. And of course the service is amazing. You are incredibly well taken care of and we forget what that means. Attentive but not prying, friendly but not overly so. Excellent service is a subtle experience and when done well, it really just melts into the background and contributes to the evening. So overall - a stellar evening with great food and service. Bravo!

Always Great Steaks

Ruths Chris can always be counted on for great steaks, good service, and a relaxing atmosphere. Much better than comparable chain steak houses.

not worth the money

We went for an early family dinner after a show. The service was poor and the food was mediocre - it was not worth the money.

Worst RC visit in my entire llfe

By bjandljtravels |

I can honestly say that tonight's visit at Ruth's Chris was the worst experience I have ever had at an RC. I have eaten at easily 20 of the locations and at least 100 times in my lifetime. The restaurant in Philly has moved since I last ate here. It's more modern and eclectic - not really my style but I have not detracted from the review for this reason. The reason for my poor review was the food AND service. Our barbecue shrimp was undercooked and bland. The lobster bisque was too strong. My 12 oz ribeye ordered medium had NO pink. The replacement (I switched to a petite filet again medium) came out rare to medium rare. The mushroom ordered by my colleague was overdone (burnt) and went uneaten. The service was not up to RC standards. The waiter seemed to have an "you are lucky to have me as a waiter" attitude. Not service-oriented at all. The bread had to be asked for and the waiter seemed skeptical about my complaint about the steak being too done. When I specifically asked him if he saw any pink in the meat, he responded "you're fine." What?? My replacement steak being nearly rare could be seen from 20 feet away but the waiter never commented when removing it nearly half not eaten. The waiter didn't even ask my colleague about the burnt (black) portebello mushrooms. This was after she ordered the vegetarian special only to be told they were out of it. Just an overall bad experience - so disappointing. Honestly will not be back to the Philly RC.

For a Special Occasion

By A A |

I was greeted by a warm hello and Happy Birthday... The restaurant also provided a birthday card and yellow celebration ribbon for the table (which made the dinner extra special). The food was good and the service was great... The restaurant was referred to me by a friend and my only hiccup was that we were not seated in the main dining area; which my friend said was fantastic. New to the scene, I was unaware to ask; but we had a great time anyway.

When in Philly Visit Ruth's Chris for Great Steak and Service

By starmondg |

Ruth's Chris Steak house has a great environment and the servers are attentive. The manager walks the floor and does not just sit in his/her office. The manager checks to make sure the server is providing great services. Been there several times and the food was awesome. I work in the customer service industry and excellent customer services is important to me and I expect only the best customer service you can get.

Good but not great...

By Christian Soehring |

Nice setting. nice location, high prices Creme brulee was (as in almost all its locations) fantastic. Bloody Mary OK but overpriced. Porterhouse for 2, medium, very nice.

Au Gratin Potatoes are out of this world

By Louis D |

Stopped in during a impromptu trip to Philly with my wife and my 5 year old son. Every staff member treated my son with patience, care and respect. We were fortunate to have Q as our waiter. He displayed great knowledge of the menu as well as offered great recommendations. Shinning star of the night was their potatoes Au Gratin. We have dined in some of Mahattans best steakhouses and Ruth Chris Philly tops them all on the Au Gratin. The surprise of the night was the $11.50 kids filet with French fries and broccoli...great price! Overall great night!

Typical Ruth's Chris

By EA913 |

This location is in the lobby of a hotel in Center City. Easy to get to. Dined at the bar. Professional service as always. Great steak and sides. Wouldn't necessarily seek it out again next trip as there are countless steakhouses in Philly. But, it's worth every penny.

Not good enough

By alexandra9007 |

We made a last minute decision to fine here after seeing a show across the street at the Wilma Theater. We arrived at 9:20pm. I am hoping that the late arrival is why the food was sub-par. Both steaks were over-cooked. Mine was significantly over-cooked. The broccoli au gratin was mushy and unimpressive. I expected much better food for the price. Many better steaks in Philadelphia. However, our server, Shawn, was fantastic!

Expensive but worth each and every dollar.

By SoloTheBest |

On a cold, rainy evening this November, I treated my family to an evening of fine dining in honor of the holiday season. My party consisted of six members who were hungry and ready for a night out in Philly. The restaurant's decor is amazing. There are about six different sitting areas, each with their own style which easily flowed throughout the entire restaurant. The bar area was bright and large. With plenty of bar stools and table sitting all around. Left of the front desk is a formal sitting area with about five tables and three booths to choose from. Off the right of the front desk is a floor to ceiling wine cellar which stretches towards the rear of the establishment, with four booths neatly tucked away to the right of the cellar. These booths each have curtains that can be drawn close for privacy. On the opposite side of the wine cellar, is another fine eating area made up of five tables and two large booths. At the end of the wine cellar is a large area with about eight tables and seven booths. Off of this room is a private room that sits about ten people. We were seated in this area. Our server was Federico, who's voice reminded me a bit of the late and great Walter Matthau. He did a fine job of taking care of us all. Without question he removed an item from our bill, which my wife did not like. We started our meal service off with a bottle of King Estate Pinot Noir for the table and an Old Fashioned Whiskey for me. We shared the following appetizers; seared Ahi tuna, crab stack (colossal blue crab peaks atop a medley of avocado and mango) and veal osso buco ravioli (saffron-infused pasta filled with veal osso buco and fresh mozzarella cheese and topped with a white wine demi-glace). All three were enjoyed by all. I especially enjoyed the veal raviolis. The time between each course was perfect. Not too soon and not too late. We filled this time with drinks, conversations and laughs. Next to come was a tomato mozzarella salad and lobster bisque. The salad was very good, but the soup was a bit too salty. My wife pointed this out to Federico who promptly removed it from the bill, even after my wife insisted that he keep it on. Nice job, Federico. Between the whole party we ordered two petite 8oz filets, a t-bone, two petite 8oz filets with lobster tails and a stuffed chicken breast (double-breasted chicken that's been oven roasted, stuffed with garlic herb cheese and topped with lemon butter). Since the sides are large enough to share, we ordered two ordered of grilled asparagus and a crab fried rice. We through in Stella Artois and a Lagunitas Ale for good measure. The main course was absolutely amazing. I moaned with every bite of my filet, which was cooked to perfection. Everyone loved their meals. As much as I enjoyed my petite filet, the surprise favorite of mine was the stuffed chicken. I was so happy that the person who ordered it could not eat all of it so passed it on to me. That was the best chicken I have ever had, and my wife prepares a very good chicken. For desert we enjoyed an Irish coffee, warm apple crumb tart, a chocolate duo (chocolate cake coupled with chocolate mousse splashed with a little sweet cream and topped with fresh berries) and a creme brulee. Not a bite was left by anyone. I really enjoyed the fresh fruit on the creme brulee. My family and I truly enjoyed the atmosphere, the service and the food. Great job to the staff of Ruth's Chris. For those reading this review, the entire meal cost $644.46 (before the 20% tip I gave to Federico) with about $120 going to alcohol. I recommend this establishment to anyone who is willing to pay for this caliber of dining. You will not regret a dollar spent.

Classy place with great sizzling steaks

By Mike C |

I have been to quite a few Ruth's Chris and this one is very good indeed. It is only about a year old. It has a relaxed bar and then a much more classy restaurant. A nice welcome at the desk and we were shown to our table, which was in a cozy booth along a corridor of booths, we didn't actually get in to see the more open seating restaurant. Service was good and friendly. Quickly asked if we would like some drinks, we just had iced water and then ordered our wine. We had glasses of a very nice white and then a bottle of one of the rather large selection of US Cabernets. Difficult to know which one to chose out of such a list. We know the menu fairly well but still listened to the explanation of the recommendations and the specials. It didn't change our minds. The Shrimp Cocktail as good as ever, the Steak Salad a very good size, not too big and really tasty with a nice vinaigrette. I then had my usual Petit Filet medium rare. It arrived as usual on a red hot plate still bubbling in the butter. I moved it and as I did it started to sizzle more, just great. It was tender and tasty. I had the mash and corn as sides, both excellent. The sides can easily be shared between two. Then desert. I had a strawberry sorbet, even though it only mentioned ice-creams. I checked to make sure the cheesecake was as good as ever by stealing a few mouthfuls and it is so good. Just what a cheesecake should be, thick and tasty not soft and creamy, with a great flavoured biscuit base with what tastes like a bit of ginger biscuit in it. It is one of the best cheesecakes. Another very good Ruth's Chris, food as good as expected and a very nice restaurant indeed.

had better and had worse

not worth the extra money - go to Morton's if you really want a good steak for the same price. Also, the dinning room is very small and the tables are so close.

Chic, Modern. Slick. Great Service and Food. Downstairs at Sonesta.

By TommyBoy94 |

This high gloss romantic restaurant is downstairs from the Hotel Sonesta which, as a hotel, is also going for that upscale, modern, slick vibe. Unlike other newly opened restaurant locations which suffer from service that hasn't yet ironed out all the kinks, this place has plenty of staff providing superb service. Our head waiter, Mike, was especially talented. I like my steak medium and my wife(Barbara) likes hers rare (Mooing she sometimes says). We would therefore have ordered separate steaks, but we had our eyes on the Porterhouse for two. Mike had the solution. He asked the chef to prepare the Porterhouse on the rare end of the spectrum and then he went to work table-side! Cutting the steak au table, Mike made sure Barbara's was hot and sizzling (that signature Ruth's Chris sizzle) but not so hot that her pieces kept cooking. Mine was so super-hot that keeping it on my plate, it went from rare to medium in moments. And no sacrifice in flavor for this high-grade sweet meat prepared simply in butter and salt. The three cheese potato gratin was superior as were the asparagus. One small quibble here. The potatoes and asparagus were shared but served up on individual plates as if we had ordered one apiece. So we had to spoon the sides onto our steak plates. We each should have had an additional plate for the veges. The house red wine was paired beautifully with the main course. Since the food and service were basically impeccable, why four circles instead of five? It was close, but since steak house chains like Ruth's Chris are just so expensive, I looked back on the only steak house to which I gave my highest rating...Bern's in Tampa. Bern's, with it's astounding dessert floor and with the largest wine collection in the USA (some say the world) plus it's incredible and historic architecture and interior design, offered a dining experience which one could not duplicate anywhere else (In addition to the splendid food and service). It was and is unique. While Ruth's Chris, while truly wonderful, is not really so "one of a kind". It is...well...slick and trendy. But, you are not in Tampa now, are you? You are in Philadelphia, Toto, and this restaurant is one of the best in this town.

Disappointing

By Bob G |

We booked Ruth's Chris instead of a more local Steakhouse for dinner while staying in Philadelphia. We figured Ruth's Chris would be consistent nationwide. This is not true evidently and when you spend $250 for 2 people it should be excellent. The drinks were the best part as our cocktails before dinner and wine during were excellent. The waitress told us that when our meals come that the plates would be extremely hot. Not only were they not hot but they were barely warm. Steaks were lukewarm, baked potato was barely warm and they initially forgot the mushrooms. I hate when servers do not work in a section, but rather the next in line guest. When a restaurant has several rooms you will never get great service in my opinion because the server has to take care of guests scattered throughout the entire restaurant instead of all their tables being in the same area. Mediocre at best.

George! Top notch service.

By kellyl00ft |

We had an awesome dinner for my brothers graduation. George took care of us and he was awesome. So personable and he took care of everything we needed. Great conversation, great guy...wish there were more George’s everywhere. Food was excellent-but George made our experience.

Always a GREAT experience at this restaurant!

By Ernesto L |

We have been celebrating our anniversary at this restaurant since its opening. Very attractively decorated. "Cheaters booths" are a fun touch. The service, food and wine selections have been nothing less than impeccable. I have recommended this restaurant to out of town friends and business associates, and everyone has always walked away satisfied. Being a traditional kind of guy, I usually order the NY Strip medium rare with Bernaise on the side. My wife likes the petite filet. They have always been perfectly done. During our last visit we tried the sweet potato casserole...it was outstanding! We usually reserve the table by the fireplace and enjoy a romantic dinner. The bar has a lot of activity, and many customers seem to dine in the bar area. For us, it is a no hassle trip from the suburbs. The parking attendants remember me and always keep my car up at the front. Highly recommended!

Eh

Ordered house white, it tasted bad. Appetizers good, soup OK, big disappointment was salmon it was very over-salted, side dishes OK, dessert was rich.

Outstanding special occasion

By CDR G$ |

Outstanding special occasion dinner served in one of the “Cheater’s Booths” with a nice card and rose petals. Steaks done to perfection one with horseradish and the other with blue cheese crusts with delicious family style sides. Attentive server kept well poured cocktails coming thru the whole meal.

Those crab cakes...! wow!

By danieldotcom |

I took my wife and parents and I asked for crab cakes that were out of this world. My wife and parents asked for the same: chicken breasts with cheese. In general, they were very happy for the choice except my father, because he expected something less spicy (so take that into account when you are going to order). By the way, service was outstanding. Loved it! I'll be back in my next visit to Philadelphia,

Adequate

By Hurl_Grey |

Way more money then is necessary. 12 for a small plate of mashed potatoes. C'mon. I cook at home. I will buy and prepare you a steak from whole foods that will blow this place away. And would be a third of the price. Everything we ordered was prepared perfectly and service was excellent.

Very Disappointing

By Julie M |

There was no availability in the restaurant so we ordered to go as we were staying at the hotel. Ordered our steaks medium. Asked the hostess who took my order how long would it take. She said not to worry, she would call me when it was ready. I said great. We will just be waiting outside the door in the hotel lobby. No call…. No call…. After 45 minutes I went in to check. Food was sitting there and had been for 30 minutes according to the expo ticket. Bartender wouldn’t let me take the food, had to have a hostess. When I asked her how long it had been sitting there, no response. When I asked for silverware, passed me one set with her back to us. As you can imagine, steaks were rare and cold. Sides too. Very disappointing. Both the service and the food.

Perfect Anniversary Meal

By Amandadcarr |

It was our 30 year anniversary trip and we were not disappointed! The stuffed mushrooms, ribeye, lobster and creamed spinach were delicious! The atmosphere is so enjoyable too.

Best steak ever!

By Wendy P |

I highly recommend this steakhouse! We were staying at the Sonesta hotel and this restaurant was in the lobby. We ordered a shrimp cocktail, steak, mushrooms and caesar salad to go as we wanted to watch the football game in our room. I'm SO glad I decided to order one and split it as it would have been too much food otherwise. A tad pricey but worth every penny!!!

Well Played

By Victoria Z |

Great physical space. New location, but same wonderful Ruth's Chris. The steaks are truly excellent - and they actually cook it the way you like - no matter how well done that is. THANK YOU. No attitude. And the SERVICE was WONDERFUL. Attentive, friendly and well-timed. We were in a private booth with curtains for privacy - very romantic.

You Can't beat the Quality of their meals

By dennisbqbasementsyst |

we usually go to Ruth's Chris Restaurant for special events, we go to the one is phila. as well as the one in King of Prussia, their steaks are amazing and cooked to order. the service is always excellent. if you are looking for a budget meal though this is not the place to go..

Great Steak Horrible Dishes

By pearlmiriam |

Love the steak. Great quality. However the dishes are so small that a large steak falls over the edge. I like to turn the plate around when I eat the steak. Plate is too small and too hot. I have burned my hand there. Love the bone in rib eye.

Front Desk Staff Lacking

By 27Jazz27 |

Why is it that a fine restaurant such as this has deplorable staff working the front desk? You would think it would be a no-brainer to hire qualified and personable people to staff the hostess desk, where patrons receive their first impression of your restaurant. I suppose this is not a given. In actuality, our first impression began when we called to make a specific request. The “hostess” placed us on hold for a very long time while she checked with the manager. When she finally came back, instead of saying “thank you for holding “, or “we’d be pleased to accommodate you,” she mumbled, “it’s ok”, as if we had totally inconvenienced her. When we eventually arrived at the restaurant, the hostess staff there at the desk were no better; they were unprofessional, apathetic, and impolite...in addition to the fact that they immediately & in a rude way refused the special request...we then had to remind them that it had been pre-approved via phone. The staff inside the restaurant, on the other hand, were actually very accommodating...quite the opposite of the front desk. I would especially like to commend Steve, our waiter, for providing excellent service in a professional and friendly manner, and thank him for helping to redeem our night. The busboy was also very good, and the food delicious.

Seductive steaks

By Debbie D |

If you want an amazing steak experience, go to Ruth's. Not the cheapest place to eat in Philadelphia, but must be one of the finest. We sat in a quiet booth, received amazing customer service from Nick, who served not only the best Long Island Iced Tea cocktail, but extensive knowledge about the food on offer. My friend and I shared the Porterhouse with simple, but delicious mash and asparagus sides. Don't go overboard with the sides because you won't need them. When I'm next in town, I will go back.

Private dining for a large group.

By SpiritBear11 |

Quatise and Lynn took AMAZING care of our group when we dined at Ruth's Chris Steakhouse -- on the first floor of the Sonesta Philadelphia hotel. I realize that the hotel and Ruth's Chris are separately owned but I would have thought one person did all the hiring within those four walls. How could so many great servers, customer service reps, etc. all be in one place??? Amazing.... Food was delicious and presentation was beautiful but Quatise and Lynn truly made it a wonderful experience.

Best Anniversary Dinner ever.

By 258jay |

Had our 20th wedding anniversary dinner at RC Steakhouse in the Sonesta hotel in Philadelphia. Best Anniversary dinner we have ever had. The staff was attentive, professional, and very friendly. The steak was one of the best I've ever had. My wife had the sweet potato casserole and said it may be one of the best things she has ever eaten. The female manager on duty on the evening of 10/07/17 was lovely and sweet. Thanks for making this our best dinner in Philly.

Steak lover

By lularoebyerinand2018 |

The worst Ruth’s Chris I have ever been to in any state! I am a true lover of this restaurant. I had been looking foward to it for days. Every single person in our family ordered a Filet every one came out a head steak complete with connective tissue. Seriously from Ruth’s Chris at these prices!!!! I would skip this location. Their answer when I questioned them about the quality was they use the whole tenderloin. Guess what at Ruth’s Chris you shouldn’t. Not at a well know steak house. This was a steak I could have gotten at a corner bar in any town in the country. Never again Philadelphia! Never!

Always vey good - never sensational

By FreqTrav100 |

Having eaten at one of theri chains often over the past 20 years, they continue to have consistently very good food but inceasingly I fiind the visits a little 'boring' - a little innovation is needed. Now the menus are getting smaller and some of my fdavourite dishes have disappeared. The ofrmula has all become a little mechanical. I don't really look forweard to my next visit...

Superb!

By Tiffany C |

Our first time at Ruth's Chris and we were not disappointed! We like to try the restaurants who claim to be the best steakhouses in Philly. Well, Ruth's Chris is definitely a top contender. Our steak was cooked perfectly, the sides were generous, and the service was impeccable. The restaurant does offer other items besides steak, but if you go, you must order the filet mignon. Our lobster bisque had chunks of lobster, our ceasar salad had fresh chunks of parm cheese which I love, and our mashed potatoes were buttery and creamy. We also had the asparagus and steamed broccoli, which were both cooked perfectly. The fresh warm bread was also piping hot on the inside and a great way to start our delicious meal.

Fantastic meal

By Liza R |

I love Ruth Chris and I especially enjoyed my dinner. I loved the booths with velvet-paneled walls and little curtains, it was very romantic. The food was excellent and my only negative comment is that in other locations I've always received the plate literally sizzling, but here the butter was already cold when served. It was nonetheless delicious. I went back for lunch some days after and sat at the tables by the bar. While the service was quick, the server (who was also the bartender I believe) did not bring bread until I asked for it, and handed me the check without having asked for it. This was unfortunate because I had been planning to have either dessert or another drink. The place was not full and up to that point the service had been unenthusiastic but good. The food was excellent.

Frenetic service

By Wendy P |

After a long first day in Philly, since we were staying in the Sonesta, we didn’t want to go far for dinner. We knew of the restaurants reputation ( theres one in Chicago) and made a reservation. We were seated next to table with a large party and a few two tops near by. While our server was attentive, he had too many tables to wait on and this was reflective in our service and experience. While my husband loved his meal, mine was sub par. I am not impressed that the oven you cook the filet in is however many degrees hot if it has no taste or flavor. The cauliflower had too much salt and why do yo7 need to put cheesy bread crumbs on it? For a steak house of this caliber (and $$$$$ rating) the food pacing lacked finesse, as the timing was off due to no one being attentive to us. I am sure the other 99% of the diners enjoyed their meal, but I did not.

NYE

By MMS1980 |

Had never been to the Ruth's Chris downtown, and booked last minute for New Years Eve with a friend. Wound up in a private boudoir type booth which was awesome, I had no idea they had tables like that. Would be great to request on a date!

Must Have: Bloody Mary At Brunch!

By NYCGUY100 |

What a great experience - the bloody mary is a delish surprise - hearty drink with two huge Cajun spiced shrimp on top. Wow! Had the sausage and biscuits with scrambled eggs which was delish but the bloody was the star of the meal. I was solo and the staff was great - I was greeted by the hostess - and she later checked in on me - it was quiet so the bartender was also my server - checked in on me often but never hurried me - Highly recommend it - I can't wait to go back

AWESOME HAPPY HOUR!!!!

The food was outstanding and the bartenders were even better. A shoutout to DeAnn and crew -- you guys are amazing!!!!

Amazing Service

By Christina W |

My husband and I recently dined at Ruth's Chris on our very first parent's night out. We were originally seated in a slightly noisy section of the restaurant and requested to move to a quieter table. The staff moved us quickly to a secluded booth and we were so pleased. Stephen M. took over as our server and really made our dining experience fabulous. He is the perfect server - pacing our courses perfectly and chatting in between. This is a skill that is inherent, you either have it or you don't. Stephen has it and is an asset to this restaurant. The food was amazing, as always. Can't wait to go back!

Good steaks

By whtwav2 |

All three of us had the petite filet. However, one of us got the butt of the filet which lower quality cut. We have learned to order the center cut when ordering the filet. However, for some reason we didn't do that last night. Only complaint I have about Ruth's Chris is that occasionally they will slip in the butt. We have eaten in many different Ruth's Chris and normally the steak is one of the best on this planet. Other wise our meal was superb. My advise when ordering the filet is request the center cut.

Great ...brotherly 'steak'love

By mrcewebb |

This was a great great experience. My wife's birthday deserve a great restaurant, and this sure lived up to the occasion. We have been to the one in white plains and yet was very surprised at the modern decor. The service was in keeping with the star rating but I must mention our server Nick great service. This is what I have used to judge great not just good service. We heard how he interacted with the table of business men and when he come over to us he was with the same enthusiasm and interaction. Genuine and not overdone. He was a treat as was the lobster mac and cheese ( try it)Thanks Nick for making our night out special. If your are in the Philadelphia area and want a great night our thy Ruth's Chris Good food, great decor and great people.

Great start to our stay

By Macbad |

We had dinner here on a Saturday night when we arrived in a Philadelphia. We hadn't booked but they found us a table and were very welcoming. The place was just the right amount of lively. Food was excellent both the fillet and the Porterhouse steak. We weren't rushed at all and had a great time.

UGGGH…PASS THIS PLACE UP!

By Clear2send |

So disappointed. First steak was over cooked. Second steak was not seasoned. It tasted like not so good pot roast at a second rate cafeteria. I enjoyed the baked potato while waiting (and waiting) on the second steak. A couple of bites of the steak and I was done. It really was awful. The creme brûlée was delicious. Wait staff was not what I would have expected at a well known expensive steak house.

Delicious Birthday Dinner After The Theater

By Luci_J_M |

Haven't been to Ruth's Chris in a number of years and it was good to see that their quality hasn't changed. The steaks were done to perfection! Both my husband and I had the rib eye -- he had the larger cowboy portion Pittsburgh rare and I had the regular portion with the temperature that was between medium rare and medium (they have a special name for it that I can't recall) and bleu cheese crust. Soooo good! We got the lobster mac and cheese, mushrooms and creamed spinach for sides to share -- in my opinion the mac and cheese and spinach were so-so and I'd pass on them next time. For appetizers we shared the seared ahi tuna and an appetizer special of lamb chops. These were both delicious. Yes, it was expensive, but it was a lovely way to celebrate my husband's birthday. I noted it was his birthday when making the reservation and they had the table specially decorated and they took our photo to commemorate the evening. It was a very nice touch and a printed photograph is better than any selfie we could have taken. Don't forget to let restaurant know if you're celebrating a special occasion. Our server was fantastic and very attentive. Again, a wonderful evening all around.

Elegant, savory and sophisticated

By John K |

As expected, the steaks are nearly life-changing, the service is over-the-top, the setting is lush and luxurious. Ruth's has a well-earned reputation for excellence and goes beyond merely having a meal and becomes a culinary experience not to be missed.

Poor service

By Michele W |

My favorite restaurant is Ruth Chris. We were vacationing in PA and found a Ruth Chris in the Scranton Pa area. I was beyond excited to go there with my family for my Birthday. We arrived and did not realize it was in a casino. However we found our way into the restaurant and the 4 of us were excited. We have been to many Ruth Chris across NJ and the NY area and have always enjoyed our dining experience.. However this past experience left us disappointed. It seemed as it we were bothering our waiter the seldom times he came by to see if we were satisfied. We asked him to get us refills and they never came. It’s so disappointing when we pay $100 a person and can’t even get a refill of wine, water or soda. Our waiter didn’t even ask of our dinner or appetizer’s came out ok. Never mind refills. Deeply disappointed ☹️

Fantastic food

While visiting Philadelphia we were invited to dinner at Ruth's. Excellent food. Fantastic service. Table booth was a tight squeeze for 5 people.

Mostly hype with little subtance

The restaurant itself is beautiful and ornate. However, the staff is way below what a restaurant of this caliber should employ. The greeter should take a much needed social skills class. The wait staff was a duke's mixture. The head waiter came off as superficial by trying to

Friday late afternoon happy hour at ruth's chris steakhouse I cannot praise staff highly enough. We were in Philadelphia for first time staying in hotel sonesta above the restaurant and decided to have an early dinner. We walked into the bar area and noticed everyone at bar eating and asked if we could have a table which staff duly found for us. The Bar waitress in a very friendly way advised between 4 and 6.30pm it was happy hour in bar area including the surrounding tables half price on food and drinks. This was not ordinary bar food our friends both had the beef skewers my wife the spicy shrimp and at $9.00 during happy hour they were unbelievably good. Meanwhile we continued to receive outstanding friendly service as the bar area became even busier. The wait staff asked if we would like dessert we decided if the dessert wae half as good as main course then why not these were full price off the main menu my wife and I shared the chocolate duo and our friends the apple pie and both were to die for. Compliments to the chef for food the bar and wait staff for great friendly service. We are holidaying around the US and will most definitely be looking out for Ruth's Chris Steak House in any city we visit

We eat here before a concert because we were staying at the sonesta and it’s in the lobby. There was no trouble getting served in enough time to make it to our concert. We were seated in a nice velvet booth. We ordered calamari, and creating a pepper allergy. And it arrived with peppers on it. So we opted out of it. And ordered steak and baked potato. It was good, but not for the price. There are much better steak houses for this price in Philadelphia! With price is the same as the capital for the food is nowhere near as good and neither is the service. I would just say mediocre.

So-so Steak House

By larryderm |

When they called to confirm the reservation, I asked for an earlier time. This was not possible, but when we we arrived, there were several empty tables. The hostesses are best described as ditsy and superfluous. The food is ok. The steaks were cooked as ordered, and the salads were as described. The best we can say is that everything is just so-so and not worth a second visit.

Ruined my birthday dinner

By Julie M |

So the restaurant is beautiful the hostess was very pleasant. Even the man who served us water and bread was pleasant. The problem was the rude waiter. As soon as he came over he was grumpy. I asked a few questions about items on the menu and he was nasty I still completed my order but when he walked off it was still bothering me to the point where I didn't want to continue my birthday night at Ruth Chris so I left.

Over Priced

Lunch with business clients and really disappointed. Over priced for the level of service and food received. So many better choices.

Our best experience ever at any Ruth Chris restaurant. The Resturant was busy for happy hours but we were welcomed without reservation. Our waiter was the best. She ordered & paid for our fries when our food was delayed because we ordered well done steak. Great food. Very kind of her & we returned the kindnesses too. Clean & friendly environment. Good people.

One of the best steaks I've had in a long time! They really made our night special!! Ehen we got to the table, the was a card waiting for us, how sweeeet! Nick one of the managers also gave us a free apple tart. Really good food!! A must go!

Always searching, never finding

By DktrO |

I've only been to a couple of Ruth Chris' Steak Houses I keep thinking with their big name reputation, they have to be better than an Outback. Sadly, no. I had a petite rib-eye and expected a marbled piece of rare steak. I'd say it was a really good sirloin. Some fat at the end, but no discernible marbling. Barely rare on a 1-inch thick steak, but their 500 degree plate cooked it to medium rare-medium. It was $46 poorly spent. Will never go back to another R.C.

Good food, service initially slow, but ok in the end.

By Mark |

Hostess was warm and friendly. After being seated, I waited quite awhile to get a server. It didn't help that prior to taking my order, he walked by me at least 5 times without any recognition. Then he said hello, and went away again. I decided to get assertive. When he came, he seemed a little put out. I asked some questions, and he asked me what I was looking for, in sort of a testy manner. So, initially it was awkward, but not that big a deal. The food came, and all was forgiven. A great wedge and blue cheese salad and lobster bisque. Then came the bone in filet. It was really great. I might add that the server helped out by affirming that I order it medium, because I don't like under done steaks. The server checked in several times, in a friendly warm manner and I ended the night a well fed and grateful customer. I want things to feel right and taste right if, I'm going to pay a lot of money. I was glad I went tonight and felt it was a good choice.

I always remain confident in one brand to never fail: Ruth's Chris Steakhouse. Their passion and dedication to execution of an immpeccable experience, regardless of city, represents a reason to frequent this restaurant. We all understand that in most businesses it remains a difficult task to implement effective corporate standardization. As an example, name any franchise or chain. Even within the same state it reflects a challenge to "clone" the recipe for success. Whether it represents fast food or fine dining we can all relate to an experience that perturbed or disappointed us. Ruth's Chris has never disappointed me with the dozens of restaurants in over 12 states that I have frequented. I respectfully recommend you try the best consistent Steakhouse period. Oh yeah, they have other incredible food besides steak! Philly, thank you for maintaining Ruth's Chris high standards and for making a pretty good sweet tea for this old Southern Gentleman.

Never Again

By Jasmine R |

We have been to several Ruth Chris restaurants in many different cities/counties. This one was by far the worst. When we walked in the Hostess was leaning on the desk along with two others (managers perhaps as they were in suits) as if they were bored. We asked for our table and asked if we were getting a booth as requested in the reservation request. They obviously had not bothered to read it as they started scrambling to seat us somewhere else. Once seated, we met our server, who seemed very nice at the time. We asked for a bottle of wine and of course, as in many Ruth Chris', they come with a bottle but not of the same year we wanted. I don't understand why they just don't update their wine lists (this is an issue at all of the Ruth Chris' we have been too). I asked about it and of course, an excuse. So we tasted it, it was so bland and we told her about it. She says with a laugh, "well at least you tried something new" seriously. No, go ahead and pick something else or get a manager to come speak to us. We order the Harvest salad, which has fried onions in it (as I am allergic to raw onions). Salad comes with raw onions all over it. I told the guy that I couldn't have it and they need to make a new one. This guy is scrambling with the salad plates in his hands to find our server to tell her what's going on. She comes over and I told her what happened and that the salad is supposed to have fried onions not raw onions. So she seems annoyed. She comes back with two new salads but with all these other vegetables that are not in the original salad along with a bowl of the fried onions on the side (do they even read their own menu). This is not going well. We get our steak and sweet potato casserole and they are semi burnt. She disappears for long periods of time. We serve our own bland wine. Finally, when she got back to us, I asked for the check. She noticed that we were not happy and we did let her know it was not a great experience. You would think with that, she would inform a manager, something, anything. As we were leaving, the hostess was back in the same bored position as when we went in. Definitely not going back again as this is not what we expect from Ruth Chris!

Above Ruth's Chris standard!

Ruth's Chris restaurants, excepting Las Vegas, always serve wonderful steaks and have a no-miss standard. What stroke me at this location was the SUPERB service!

Excellent

By Barbara W |

My husband and I had dinner here on Friday night. Atmosphere was excellent, service was excellent and the food was excellent,

Terrible! The wait staff was very nice, however the experience was not worth the “classy” vibe that they claim.

By Maguy O |

The worst dining experience thus far!! First they called us the day before to make sure that we understand that the dress code is business casual…. Only to see that most patrons were in track suits, sweatpants, sneakers and sports t-shirt and jackets!! Second, the food comes in tiny plates! The worst china plates, all scratched up, tiny size to fit the Ruths Classic steak and lobster. I know that 6 oz steak does not require a large plate, but when i am sitting at a beautiful big table and paying good money for that “Ruth Chris” experience, i expect to be treated as an adult and not be served in child size plates. The steak was okay, the sides were terribly bland, watery, full of butter. The additional appetizers that we had ordered came on “500 degree hot plates”, but sadly the contents were just luke warm. The dessert was very nice. Our serving staff, Savannah was great, not her fault that the management used baby plates to serve $60-80 meat portions. I don’t recommend this restaurant at all.

Excellent

By misspomona |

I love Ruth's Chris and Philadelphia was on par. The ambiance of the restaurant was lovely; we sat near the glass enclosed 'fireplace'. They have a great mural of all things Philly. Our server, Steven, was great. He made excellent recommendations and was very attentive. We had a tiny spill at the table and the restaurant manager was extremely generous and polite in trying to remedy the accident. The food quality was excellent! The desserts are enough for maybe two to share. I highly recommend the banana dessert (bananas foster cheesecake?); I forgot what it's called - we inhaled it it was so delicious! Crème brûlée is always my go to; I could eat a serving by myself: it's not too sweet and just big enough. Thank you!

Fathers Day

By groseruth |

The service was good. The food not so good. The lobster mac and cheese was bland compared to one in Tennessee. The lamb was kind of tough. The crab fried rice had an unpleasant taste to it and the sweet potato casserole had a after taste. The only outstanding thing that was good was the spicy shrimp appetizer. For a 160 dollars for two I felt disappointed. I have visit this franchise in Memphis Tennessee and the food was outstanding. That's the reason I picked it for fathers day. I learned not to assume all locations are on point. I will not eat at this location again.

The happy hour can't be beat!

By Stacie F |

They have a daily happy hour for $9 that is the best menu and value around. The food is amazing and nice sized portions, the drinks are strong, watch out! You have to get there early to grab a seat but well worth it. From open around 4pm -7pm, it is the best.

5 Star, as usual

By JennH40 |

If you have never been to a Ruth Chris Steak House, I don't know what you're waiting for. I have never had a bad meal here. In fact, I frequently moan over my meal. The food is served on plates heated to 500 degrees to keep it hot (they tell you not to touch, trust me, I have been the idiot who forgets). A few must haves - washington apple martinis, the veal osso buco ravioli appetizer if they have it (TRUST ME), the filet mignon, and any side. Basically, just go!

Nothing Less Than Superb

Ruth Chris

By Ashley E |

Okay, so the first two times I came here, the food was amazing. However, today I decided I will not be coming back. First, when we got there we were sat immediately, so I thought everything else would be pretty fast based off of past experience. However, it took ten minutes for someone to get us water, and that was only because I went up to say something to the hostess. It wasn’t until another 5 minutes later that we got our drinks. Then, it took another couple of minutes for someone to get our order. Then, it took a couple minutes for the food, maybe 15-20, but the reason why I was irritated is because the person I was with asked our waiter(apparently there is only one person that can take orders??), and she snapped and was rude in her answer. Meanwhile, with other patrons, the hostess was able to bring them little things like salt and pepper, and apparently there is a guy that brings out the orders too? If that is the case, why couldn’t certain tasks be delegated to make our experience a little faster? Food was still amazing. If you want to risk having half of your lunch break wasted, because apparently there was a party and we didn’t know that until the waitress told us rudely, then go ahead.

$9 sizzle

I've been trying to go to Ruth Chris for some time now but I know their prices are a bit steep lol. My girlfriend suggest that we go there for happy hour so we did. They have pretty good options. I got a burger and fries for $9 and it was delicious and fulfilling. My cosmo was also $9 which was amazing. Gary is a great bartender!

Food absolutely superb, but a bit expensive

Being in the Sonesta hotel for one week, we went a total of three times in this restaurant. We have always been satisfied of the quality of the food and drinks. Not really cheap, but is worth the money.

The best food no matter what city!

I have never been disappointed with a meal at a Ruth’s Chris! They cook the steaks in butter and the flavor is incredible. Literally everything on the menu is absolutely delicious. It’s expensive but worth every penny!

Don't expect service in the bar area....

By Nancy B |

Let me start this review by stating that I have been involved in the restaurant business, both as a server, bartender and manager for over 25 yrs. This was the most disappointing service I've had in over that amount of time. I arrived to the 'bar side' of the restaurant via the hotel (where I was staying for business) and was promptly acknowledged by a staff member (female bartender) and informed of where the host desk was (so far so good - this was as good as it ever was for the evening - sad). I was dining alone and asked to be seated in the bar area (looked nice, large screen TVs for viewing and you could still sit at a table, not the bar). I was seated and then the 1st of 2 servers arrived to greet me. He brought me 1 warm foccia like bun and whipped butter. I asked for water with lemon. This arrived promptly. I then waited over 10 minutes (for my 'official' server to arrive) even though a fellow diner who was seated next to me but shortly after, had her 'official' server arrive within 1 minute of her sitting down. I decided to start with the crab stack (lump crab, avocado, mango, cukes, red onion) appetizer ($19). I informed my server that I was not sure how 'hungry' I was and would decide after the appetizer what I wanted to order next. He inquired if I would like wine, I declined ('not right at this moment, thank you'). This is where the service plummeted like a hot knife through butter. It would seem that I was not a $100+ check and therefore my dining in 'his section' wasn't worth his time. To note - the Crab stack was presented beautifully and the taste was every much as described in the menu. My empty water glass sat...empty. My completed app plate remained. and I waited, and waited. with 2 servers, you wouldn't expect a wait, never mind have an empty water glass, and finished plate on the table. I moved the plate to the other side of the table, I pushed the empty glass forward...still waiting. It should be noted that the bar area was NOT busy. there were 2 persons sitting at the bar, ordered wine and take out. There were 2 different 4 tops and that was it...and I still waited. eventually my dirty dish was removed. I asked for more water. I then waited for my server to arrive to ask if I wanted anything else. I ordered the Veal Osso Buco Raviolo ($15) appetizer. remember, I wasn't too hungry. This arrived and was To DIE FOR! hats and all off the the chef. It was a lovely taste explosion in your mouth. However, my server could not have cared less - as I was 3/4 finished with this app before he arrived to ask 'how I was doing'. I would have liked a glass of Pinot Noir with it...but sort of hard to get something when my server was otherwise occupied. I again sat, with finished plate in front of me with silverware clearly indicating I was done. (ok, and short of licking the plate there was nothing left). And I waited and waited. Then the bar staff, clearly were 'ready' to go home and started cleaning the service wells....loudly...and talking about 'how much longer'. Seriously??? The managment here really needs to evaluate their staff on Sunday evenings. I would be nothing short of embarassed to be a manager of this team. It was atrocious... but the Food WAS REALLY good. so, if you don't care about the service, then give this establishment a go. If you'd like service to go with your $45+ steak (a la carte), then I'd try another Ruth Chris's location...there's one at King of Prussia Mall... I'm rating the value here as poor because the service was so bad...it's not an inexpensive restaurant on a good day (esp. as it is all a la carte, unless you choose the pre fix sampler)

Had an amazing dinner with friends! A+ service, A+ food and great atmosphere. The calamari was amazing.

Very delicious! Sizzling plates!

By JaimeJ84 |

The wait staff was friendly, accommodating. The stuffed chicken was juicy & delicious, the loaded baked potato was huge & tasty, the rolls soft & warm. I would not get the lobster bisque again - had a weird taste/did not like. The wine selection is nice.

I would not recommend!

By Derek L |

I would not recommend this restaurant for the following reasons. First and foremost, they claim to have valet parking but no signs or direction on how to access it. After dropping off my family and driving around the block 4 times in a busy city location for 20 minutes I called and even the staff could not tell how to access their so called valet parking. I then decided to just park in a creepy city parking garage 2 blocks away and pay $25 to park there. When I final arrived at the restaurant I was already extremely aggravated. I explain how upset I was and the staff gave nothing but excuses nobody even attempted to apologize. We then sat down at made up both. It was strange. It was a table larger than the both seating so you were like shoved into a corner. Not comfortable at all. After all that the food was bland. Steaks were average at best but sides all very bland. For a top notch steak house I have had better steak at the Library restaurant down the street from my home. The only bright stop to this establishment was the waiter who was upbeat and very accommodating. I will never again in my lifetime return to this steakhouse. Derek Landolfi

Expensive, average food, less than stellar service

By SethBang |

I stayed at the Sonesta (attached to the restaurant) for three weeks and gave Ruth's Chris three opportunities to prove itself to me. Overall, I'm not impressed. I think it's common knowledge that this chain is expensive. The steak comes out sizzling on a plate hot from the oven. That's nice. But the flavor is average. I've had amazing steaks for much less and they included the side. This is where they really get you. Ordering a la carte, the cost adds up quickly. And like the steaks, the sides are overprice and average. I had potatoes au gratin and it came out as scalloped potatoes with cheese on top. (The cheese should be throughout.) Not particularly flavorful and didn't feel like ten dollars well spent. The real disappointment was the service. For the price, I would expect really attentive service. They were zero out of three for that. The waiters were not very friendly but just in-and-out, take your order and go. Nobody stopped by to refill my water glass--a real pet peeve, especially if I'm having water as my beverage. I did order wine one time and the waiter came by as I was finishing and unceremoniously cleared the table, including taking my wine glass which had one last sip in it. Not cool. It's food service 101 to leave the wine glass until the end and certainly not clear it without asking. I would not have given them three chances had it not been so convenient. If you are at the Sonesta, keep walking. Or order the burger from the hotel bar.

Poor

By foodlover401976 |

Had a night in Philadelphia on our USA east coast holiday. Decided to visit Ruth’s Chris after having a gorgeous meal at their New Orleans restaurant a few years earlier. We walked out. I WILL NOT be talked down to because I did not order a bottle of wine. The waiter we were assigned, Valentino, a pretentious little man, looked down his nose at my wife and I, as we asked for a beer and a glass of Bordeaux. I did not order a bottle of wine as, for some reason the only wine the establishment stocked was Pinot Noir, Cabernet Sauvignon and a few others that did not suit my palate. I prefer a good Italian Primitivo or a Spanish Rioja. These were not available. After we ordered our drinks the “waiter” became particularly obtuse. After eating in top class restaurants around the world, I will not be spoken to in the fashion I was by a mediocre member of staff, in, what can only be described as a ‘chain restaurant’. I will not visit Ruth’s Chris again, and I will reiterate my experience to everyone I know.

As always, great food

Food is always of a consistently high quality across all Ruth's Chris Steak Houses. Excellent staff.

Cozy private booth, great service

By swelch |

We enjoyed our visit and meal very much. It was conveniently located in the lobby of our hotel or we probably never would have gone. We were seated in a very private booth with velvet banquets and curtains to give us privacy from the rest of the restaurant. Our kids thought this was incredibly cool. The service and steaks were excellent. Had always assumed this was an unremarkable chain not worth visiting but we were pleasantly surprised.

So my man and I decided to randomly go to Ruth Chris, and we sat at the bar. The bartender not dawn, not the short one, the younger asian looking one was on some type of drugs…. You could tell something was off with him. I don’t get it, the entire experience was just weird. Before you say anything or say that I’m assuming, go check it out for yourself.

The atmosphere was perfect for a romantic dinner. The steak was superbly delicious. My wife 's salmon was excellent. The sides made the meal complete.

Bar Only

By Matt S |

I only stopped here for the bar; Ruth's Chris is attached to the Sonesta hotel...and is a much better bar than the hotel bar! There is understandably a classy atmosphere within the restaurant and bar. My bartender was good, and was very efficient with a good variety of drinks available. All in all, a good place to stop, especially if staying at the Sonesta.

Guess they're not all the same....

By karl s |

The atmosphere at the Philadelphia location leaves alot to be desired. When you're paying that much for admittedly great food, you expect better lighting and surroundings. The restaurant occupies what had been the mail room for a large office building back when, and that is exactly the feeling you get while dining there...you're in the mail room! To be fair to them, the food was up to Ruth's Chris standards. Delicious and hot. However, unlike others we've patronized, this one would not do special orders of small steak cuts. They had a 6 oz steak on the menu, but that was availably only with surf and turf. They need some help on customer satisfaction training! Others in the chain have responded to our request for a small cut. Probably will find another place next time in the city.

Great Location... Everything else disappointing

By Emilie B |

Invited for drinks after work with a business colleague tonight and we decided to stop at the new Ruth's Chris location since it's a stones throw from my office and the weather wasn't that great. On the positive side the location is amazing, the ambiance beautiful and very relaxing. Their new location is perfect and should earn them quite a few hotel guests. Now the not so good... Everything else was below expectations. Now I understand the DNC is in town but the place was not super busy. I was easily able to secure seats at the bar and waited for my colleague to arrive. Ten minutes in no one had said hello and no menu provided. I did waive down a young lady eventually who did provide a menu but then she promptly walked away. I managed to flag her down again and asked to order a glass of moscato from the happy hour menu. She said ok but then came back a minute later and asked if I wanted the Chardonnay? I told her no the moscato and she asked me if I was sure since the Chardonnay was on the menu? I pointed to the menu where I found the moscato and she seemed confused but said ok. I thought perhaps an honest mistake. When my colleague arrived he ordered his drink and when he asked for it to be finished with a twist of lemon she seemed perplexed but did it. We enjoyed our drinks and conversations and then decided we would order a few snacks. We waited for awhile and enjoyed watching 4 bartenders, yes four, make No eye contact with any of the patrons including us and simply talk amongst themselves with their backs to everyone. Finally, the original young lady came over and offered to take our order and much to our surprise it came out very quickly. However, quick does not make for good in all cases. The calamari was mediocre and could have been found at less expensive locations. The tuna was OK but certainly nothing special and we found ourselves leaving more than half of both dishes untouched. Throughout we very rarely were engaged and often our drink glasses were empty. When we did order the third and final Round of drinks, I was surprised to find my wine tastes funny and had a more golden color. When I asked if it was moscato the girl looked confused and said I had been drinking Chardonnay? When I told her no, esp since I don't like Chardonnay she said that the order was billed as Chardonnay... How strange but the computer issue was Not my fault. We then watched them talk amongst themselves while they tried to figure out what to do. Overall, not a great experience and we probably won't be back. Maybe the steak is better?

You can count on Ruth's Chris to be a great meal. We took my daughter and her boyfriend out the night before college graduation. Excellent meal and drinks, very nice atmosphere, and the wait staff is well-trained. It is expensive, but we were not disappointed!

Exactly what I expected at Ruth's Chris in Philly. Great food and wonderful service. The happy hour at the bar is a terrific bargain!

Disappointing service at the bar

By Lisa G |

I don’t know why I continue to come to this restaurant. Yes I love the steaks and they do a rare steak like nobody else, but the service at the bar is so poor. I was not given a set up until after my salad was served. Then within minutes of receiving my salad, the rest of the meal was delivered. I finished my dinner and waited . . . and waited. I took out my credit card and waited. I had to ask for the check. The bartender did not offer to pack my meal even though it was only half eaten. So disappointing. Ruth’s Chris was always the gold standard for service and excellence.

Met Expectations

By Tom82752 |

My wife and I travel a lot and have eaten at Ruth's Chris all over the US. Since it had been a while we made reservations here while in Philly for other reasons. Both food and service were up to standards. I had the bone-in filet and my wife had the petite filet and stuffed lobster. I did think the $22 valet parking fee was a little steep when you are dropping $200 for dinner. They have a system to text the valet when you know you will need your car and you get an estimate as to how long it will take. They estimated 10 - it took 20.

A good place for lunch, not dinner

By marcvtec |

I came here recently for a dinner. While the service was good all our steaks (6 of them) were all over cooked. Not up to par for the chain. Clearly a location that caters to the business lunch crowd and not the causal dinner crowd.

poor service and meh food

By Chuck S |

Went Saturday evening. They had a decent crowd, Arrived at 7pm, our reservation time and didnt get out of there until 10. The seafood tower was fabulous. Large shrimp, thick king crab legs and lobster tails. The strip steak was tough and grissley, The fillet was a little better but not much flavor. Sides of creamed spinach and o gratin potatoes were ok. I would NEVER go back here as there are soo many better steak houses in Philly

Great experience.

Service is second to none. Wait staff is very friendly and personable...nothing is impossible. Steak was excellent and crab cakes are delicious! can't go wrong. Pricey for sure but worth it!

RC always gets the steak right

By gondekp |

I go to RCs all over the place and this was my first visit to this location. I was between RC and Capital Grill and leaned towards familiarity along with the 16oz NY Strip vs a 14oz at Capital Grill. I found a bar seat on a Thursday around 7. Started with a Manhattan and then ordered some food. The bartender was nice and made it point to call guests by first name. I started with the crab cakes. The issue was the center of the first crab cake was literally cold. I told the bartender and she seemed genuinely upset that it was cold. It was replaced quickly and fine the 2nd time around. I had the NY Strip, mash, and broccoli. The broccoli was definitely nothing special. Literally steamed broccoli. The mash was good and he steak as expected. Spot on medium rare and seasoned perfect. I had a nice bottle of Cab. I noticed that the Cab offerings by the glass weren't that impressive. I had a family member meeting me later that night and we shared the wine and each had an aged run to finish the evening. I later realized that I was never given or asked if I wanted a glass of water. Also, the bread offered was small rolls vs a loaf. I've seen this varies from location to location. The overall feel of the place was the typical dark wood Steakhouse look, it was a bit more modern but at the bar it was overall noticeable but created more of a hip bar scene than a traditional steak. All things considered I had a great steak, and a good meal with a couple flaws.

Restaurant Week

By PAWSR |

On 8/14/2015 my wife decided to take me to Ruth's Chris Steak House located near Broad and Spruce Street in Philadelphia. We were celebrating the end of summer school and the beginning of our short vacation before the fall term started. Our serve Shaun was excellent. The food was another story. We both ordered the salmon topped with shrimp, mash potatoes and cream spinach. The salmon was over cooked, dry and tasteless and the mash potatoes were just warm. I will say that we both enjoyed our desert. As we were leaving the restaurant we notice a sign stating that this location will be closing on 8/22/2015. I guess that explained the problem. I hope when they re-open in the Spring of 2016 in their new location they hire new cooks.

My son's graduation

We went to Ruth's Chris Steak house to celebrate my son's graduation from Wharton School. Ambience was good. People were friendly and food was excellent. We really enjoyed our evening.

Good but expensive

We had a $25 gift card we've been carrying around for years and decided to use it on this trip to Philadelphia. We both ordered the 8 oz. filet, and split side orders of asparagus and potatoes au graten. The sides are definitely large enough to share. We each had a glass of wine at dinner and coffee with a dessert that was also large enough to share (some type of apple streudel with ice cream). While everything was really good, our dinner came to $165.... so yeah, pricey. (Our gift card didn't even cover the tip! LOL) Service was fabulous and even knowing the cost, we enjoyed our evening because our server was really pleasant and the whole dinner was great.
