Tex Mex atmosphere

By Jones |

We were in San Antonio for US military event and looking forward to enjoy Mexican home style cooking. Unfortunately we realized that’s the reason of Tex- Mex lingo. It was very good but very different from west coast Mexican food!

Amazing restaurant

By Lewis G |

Food was amazing and the service was awesome, Alex was a great ,he suggested the perfect appetizers and drinks. The was was authentic and definitely the best we had in San Antonio.

Great meal

By Navigate790783 |

Excellent food and service. Quesabirria tacos are wonderful. Would eat there again. Guacamole was excellent and portions were generous.

What can I say that the owner hasn't already?

By Steven L |

Lunch was very good. Some of the best tacos in San Antonio. Not sure what the name of the restaurant is, but whatever they call themselves, they're pretty good. Good value for your money, and very tasty Tex-Mex. Close to Pearl.

Delicious vegetarian food & margaritas

By akv33 |

Excellent food, ambiance and service! The staff and the chef went out of their way to satisfy the vegetarian customers from east coast. Best experience! The cauliflower tacos, vegetarian enchiladas and cactus salad was delicious. Margaritas were refreshing and delicious. Service staff were extremely accomodating.

Worth the cost

By Voyager52562598459 |

I had been wanting to eat here every time I visit and it hadn’t panned out because it’s not close to the main river walk area- you’ll need to drive. I almost skipped it again this time because the menu prices are quite high. I am so glad I made it in. It’s the best restaurant I’ve eaten at in San Antonio for Mexican. The salsa, guacamole, and chips were great. The drinks are strong and delicious. Great service.

Tripadvisor LIED!!!

By Roxanne B |

I took my Aunt there for her birthday and all she wanted was nachos and a margarita. Simple enough, right? WRONG! There are shrimp nachos on their online menu. When we arrived, we were told that it had not been a menu item for "a very long time". This restaurant is listed on Tripadvisor as one of the top 3 restaurants in San Antonio. I don't see how when the food was bland, the service was terrible, and they could not accommodate us when nachos was listed on the menu, they had everything to make nachos, but refused. To make matters worse, we waited almost twenty minutes just to get our check, pay, and leave. Someone in our party asked for a paper receipt, but got tired of waiting and left. The server, Miriam, did not say "thank you", "have a good night", nada. I felt so bad that my Aunt's birthday ended on a bad note. This is the last time I will go to Tripadvisor for restaurant recommendations as this is not the first time I've been burned!

Great Mexican restaurant in San Antonio

By Ernest B |

Great food and service at decent prices. We tried a few different dishes to share and all of them were exceptional. Highly recommended!

A great experience with flavors to match

By Lord_Lennius |

First time to visit Santa Diabla and will not be the last. The location is, well potentially off putting, but the restaurant stands out as a nice looking building, albeit right under (really alongside) I35. Once inside the atmosphere is great, and the staff are super friendly and helpful. We ordered Aguacile de Filete, which turned out to be an amazing blend of flavors combined with rare, but oh so tender, filet steak. I am that close to saying this is the best beef dish I have ever eaten. I then had Caldo de Cameron which was very tasty, though I would try a different soup or entree next visit. My wife had Ensalada de Flor to Jamaica which she said was tasty and light, and very imaginative. The only downside to me was that the Margs were pretty sweet. We much prefer focus on lime and liquor rather than the “natural syrup” which we took to be simple syrup, or sugar water. Don’t get me wrong, they were tasty, but for me, a little sweet. Definitely a return visit is in order with family.

OMG outstanding food!

By teresahughes65 |

The food is really terrific. The trio of salsas with chips is unique and delicious. The guacamole is fresh and so well made. Some of the other reviews say it needs salt, but I completely disagree. It’s soooo refreshing to eat restaurant food that isn’t over salted. That’s hard to find in the U.S. The mole was too sweet for my husband’s taste but I thought it was very good. I think he just doesn’t like mole. The steak was one of the best I’ve ever had. If you appreciate good food, you need to try this place!

Friendly Cantina, limited Vegetarian choices

By Tired |

Very cute authentic Mexican restaurant. Clean, open and staff are friendly. Ample parking too, which was really nice. Drinks tasty. Relatively inexpensive choices. Why three stars? I'm vegetarian, I had read that there were vegetarian choices. There was one vegetarian choice, which ok, fair enough, at least there is a choice. The choice was taco fideo seco, a bit bizarre to have spaghetti noodles in a taco, but it tasted fine. Interestingly the tacos come with beans. As a vegetarian, generally you cannot trust the beans due to lard being used to cook them. And sure enough, on a specifically marked menu item, with a large green 'V,' I received borracho beans with meat floating in the top. I asked the server if the beans had meat in them and he readily agreed they did. I said "on a vegetarian plate?" - in Spanish and English and he readily agreed yes, pork....so, in summary, yes there are vegetarian choices but they are limited, and they sides may not be vegetarian. On another note, my carnivore friend found the beans delicious!

Great!

Loooooooove coming here! The food is always great, the customer service is great and the atmosphere is perfect!

Average at best

By jharve07 |

Not sure where all these 5 star reviewers live, but they can’t live here in San Antonio. I was excited after seeing the reviews for this place and decided to take my Latina wife here. Boy was she mad at me. We shared the arrechera fajitas and they tasted like they were marinated in soy sauce and baked. They only have refried beans and they tasted like they were from a can. The drinks were good and came well prepared. The bar area looked nice and we would def go back for drinks one night. The restaurant is nicely decorated and very clean. They gave us chips and salsa.. it may have had 7 chips with a salsa flight that was underwhelming. Maybe I got the wrong thing on the menu on the wrong night.

Mateo

By Andrew O |

Mateo was great !! Super friendly !! Great tasting food. Wish there were more side food options on the menu. Peace. Love.

Excellent mexican cuisine in San Antonio

By Alejandro L |

Excellent mexican cuisine, best you can find on this side of the border, and outsanding service. I had sopa de fideo and gaoneras, everything was delicious!

It is a must in San Antonio!

By Dayanara V |

The food is beyond delicious! Totally recommend getting the quesabirria! Queso esquites was just amazing! Drinks are made so deliciously! La margarita is a must! La chingona! Oh man that one too! A really nice kick to it! Super friendly environment! Staff is so friendly! Very at home vibes! Definitely coming back!

Go for cocktails and stay for food!

By Lisa_CrystalLake_IL |

Amazing drinks and food. The drink legend was right on point! Had an El Diablo and El Chile were outstanding and true to profile. The chicharron tacos were crispy and delicious. Do not miss the salsa trio. The spicy peanut salsa was very unique and addicting. Would definitely go back!

Food critic

By Ana Wolf |

A delight to your taste buds, nice atmosphere and very attentive service (Mateo +++). It is pricy, but worth it. A great place for an adventurous date night. We had the grasshopper appetizer, the pork belly nachos, the shrimp soup and the cotton candy concoction dessert. Everything was unique and flavorful.

Amazing service!

By Isabella R |

Amazing food, amazing drinks, wonderful atmosphere!!! We really enjoyed our time at the bar and at the tables!

Good and Bad, I will go back

By Anne and BobJ |

This restaurant had its goods and bads. Good: the food was outstanding. Some of the best authentic Mexican food I have ever had in the US. The drinks were also creative and delicious. Atmosphere was very nice and festive. Staff were very accommodating and friendly. Bad: service was a bit disjointed. We had a group of 8 including 2 children . Food items came out staggered. Some of our group was finished and one had not received her food yet. The children have gluten issues so we ordered chicken tacos with corn tortillas. Food can out with normal tortillas so they had to be sent back for the corn as stated on the menu. My wife is allergic to peppers (I know tough in a Mexican restaurant) she ordered chicken fajitas with no peppers. Normally not a problem. She usually gets chicken grilled onions and sometimes mushrooms. Her dish came out as just grilled chicken chunks. Tasty but not a lot of flavor. Overall I would go back, as I said the flavors of the sauces, mole and main food were excellent. Just try not to stray too far off the menu. Change can be difficult for them.

Great menu and friendly staff made it a great visit.

By Thomas G |

Everything came well paced, hot, and fresh. The shrimp was perfectly seasoned and in a good portion.

Great food, excellent drinks

By JustinJen |

The food and drinks were excellent. We had a party of 15 and made reservations. We were seated immediately when we arrived. The drink menu is expansive and delicious. Everyone enjoyed their entrees. Our only concern was the service. They were clearly understaffed. One bartender was working her butt off, but couldn’t keep up with the number of guests. The drinks took a long time( like 15-20 minutes). The food was brought out at different times which wasn’t the end of the world, but not great. The food was worth it, but don’t go if you’re in a hurry.

This place is amazing!

By Cooper K |

This place is absolutely fantastic! Their presentation and flavors are top-tier! Not only is it delicious... it is very affordable!

Excellent place, 100% recommended, the staff has no incredible comments, and the cocktail bar is no better than Santa Diabla

Great Date!

By Blayne Charles ... R |

I really liked the service and the food! The atmosphere is very pleasant and it has a varied menu for appetizers and excellent juicy meats for main courses. We ate appetizer quesibirrias 8/10. the entree chips had very unique and authentic sauces. the drinks were good although it is better not to experiment with the "taste" as it can be very dry and lose its flavor. they replaced my drink with a margarita and this was 10/10

A Diamond Beneath the Surface

By D T |

This is a real gem being born. The waitstaff are engaged and enthusiastic. The menu is ambitious, while remaining familiar. Mixed drinks are above average. La Margarita on the rocks is top notch. Banana Pie is a home run; a non-traditional recipie. The pork belly appetizer is a must-try. The sopa de camaron was under seasoned, but good. Come and give this place a try. It has the makings of a destination restaurant.

Great upscale Mexican

By SydGTexas |

Another great Yelp find! In town from Fort Worth for the weekend and wanted to experience some south Texas Mexican food. Luckily this was around the corner from our hotel and took reservations on a Saturday night. We arrived at 8:45 for our 9pm reservation. They sat us right away and we loved the ambience and interior. It definitely came across as an upscale restaurant but get the employees were so friendly and down to earth. I love to dine in a restaurant where they greet you quickly, bring your drinks and chips and don’t make you sit forever. We had no less than three different employees stop by and make sure we were being taken care of. That’s 💯 top notch! The chips and salsa are complimentary. Loved those fresh chips. They’re thick and crispy. The three different salsas were amazing! I opted for Birria enchiladas and then added rice and charro beans. It wasn’t until later that I realized those were additional. Worth it though. My wife oddities quesa Birria. We were both impressed with our meals. The charro beans are definitely made per order and I waited about 7-8 minutes after receding my order to get them. They come out piping hot but unfortunately my tacos were just slightly under hot and more just warm. The rice was just barely warm too. It would have been better to bring everything out at once. Unfortunately they lost the last star with serving just warm food. The taste was good but that little difference means a lot. Especially when it’s fine Mexican dining prices. I would come back here and try it again for sure.

Must go to Santa Diabla

By Leticia B |

Fabulous place for authentic Mexican food! We tried multiple dishes and had their Margarita flight which was strong but good! Highly recommend! Excellent staff and service.

Dinner with family. Great food and service.

By Steve B |

The service and food were excellent. Our server, Rayshawn was very helpful and made some very good suggestions. We had the Quesabirria and an appetizer and it was fantastic. We also had the chicken Caesar salad and the tacos de Cameron both of which were fantastic as well.

Fantastic

By Alex O |

This is a great location for a casual lunch on your own or even a nice date. The food was amazing and the service was even better. I ordered the ceviche and there was more than enough to eat and the salsa variety it’s great. Please try the salsa and peanut mix they have. Very tasty. Very satisfied customer, thank yall!

Delicious!

By Flyer816847 |

Food was delicious!! Definitely going back to order the fideo again and try the pescado. Our waiter Mateo was excellent! Loved the ambience as well.

Great service, cool spot, incredible food.

By Anywhere_on_the_road |

First time visitor to the SAT. I was staying downtown and was looking for something that wasn't overrun and touristy along the river walk. I quick car service ride placed me at Santa Diabla. It is a funky little spot sorta tucked near the highway. Outdoor and indoor dining. Great, friendly service. The AvoMargarita is so tasty. As is the Guac. The star of the show, however, was the Tuna Tostado. It is absolutely incredible. So fresh and 'clean' tasting. Gorgeous plating. I travel for work a few times a month. As such, I visit a ton of restaurants. The Tuna Tostado is my new favorite restaurant plate, ever!!

Do not go

By honest_axe |

Food was bland. None of our food was seasoned. I had high hopes of this restaurant being one of the best in San Antonio according to Trip Advisor but Bill Millers restaurant (a chain) has better food. The wait staff was very nice but that is the end of my compliments. We had several appetizers including the Guacamole and it was just not good
.needed salt. The food was just bland. Would not recommend this restaurant to anyone!

Incredible on all fronts

By rachel |

Super delicious and innovative. Each cocktail was amazing and we tried several. Apps and entrees were warm, tasty, and unique. Service was incredible and so gracious. Ambiance is fun and comfortable. Definitely worthy of its high rating among San Antonio restaurants!

Brunch - More than Just Tex-Mex

Food was great. Drinks on point. Had to dock a point because the tortillas are not homemade. With other Mexican Restaurants around, not having homemade is a little disappointing. Other than that. Great meal

We went there to have dinner with our kids. The atmosphere was really nice and the staff very friendly. The food was absolutely fantastic and I also liked the cocktails. We didn't have to wait a long time for the food. We'll definitely go there again.

Perfect lunch in San Antonio!

By Nikki C |

You have to go here. Drop the mike. This place honestly deserves a Michelin star. We travel a lot and we live in the west so we eat a lot of Mexican food. This is really great food that is not only traditional but inventive. Great flavors, generous portions, really unique. The wait staff were all super friendly and it’s a fun casual spot.

Must Try

By Paloma Barratachea |

This was me and my partner first time here and we were not disappointed! We had such a great experience! The staff was so nice and attentive and the atmosphere was very warm and welcome with just a hint of modern elevated Mexican decor. The chef is very hands on and welcomed us at our table, I always appreciate a face to face experience with people who prepare my food. The Drink were awesome we have the La Margarita and the La Chingona and they were completely exceeded our expectations. We stayed for drinks and appetizers we had the birria tacos and the queso esquites . Together and alone these two dishes were amazing and made with a lot of care and craft. We will be definitely coming back here !

Situated in the heart of town, this American restaurant is a culinary delight. The menu offers a wide array of classic American dishes, each prepared with a modern twist. The burgers are juicy and flavorful, with perfectly toasted buns and a variety of toppings to choose from. The steaks are cooked to perfection, tender and succulent with a mouthwatering char on the outside. The salads are fresh and vibrant, bursting with color and flavor. Each dish is a testament to the chef's skill and dedication to quality ingredients. The service is impeccable, and the atmosphere is warm and inviting. Whether you're in the mood for a hearty meal or a light bite, this restaurant is sure to satisfy. It's no wonder it's a local favorite and a destination for food lovers from near and far

Heaven on a plate and a FIESTA in your mouth!

By James W |

A delightful surprise! We had brunch on a Sunday morning, starting with drinks, the La Chingona, their version of the Mexican Bloody Mary. We followed that with Chilaquiles with salsa verde, the best I've tasted. This was a dish that could have been relegated to the mundane, but they elevated it to gourmet. We also had Tacos de Lechon, an instant passport to the vendors in Mexico, with a side of guacamole. We also had to try their Flautas de birria with all the trimmings. I'm not exaggerating when I say that any dish on the menu would have been a special treat! We were celebrating our wedding anniversary and they surprised us with Pastel de Elote, the best dessert I've tasted! Astonishing table side presentation with the creamy comfort goodness like a Tres Leches and more. We will DEFINITELY return ... maybe for dinner! :-)

Undiscovered treasure

By Margaret S |

I had the enchiladas de mole and the flor de Jaimaica salad. Both were excellent. The Agua fresca of pineapple and mint was so refreshing. The peanut salsa and chips are to die for.

It was Everything!

By Mike T |

We decided to visit Santa Diabla for our last dinner in San Antonio. We definitely saved the best for last!! Coming from a small town in NC, there isn’t a restaurant or food truck that serves birria. I have been excited to try it since seeing so many reels of them being prepared on IG. We ordered the guacamole, poblano mole enchiladas, and quesabirria, along with la margarita and el borracho. They also brought us chips and salsa. The peanut salsa was spicy and oh-so-good! The service was great and the suggestions were spot on! I could talk about this meal longer than it took me to eat it. So I will just hit the highlights: the el borracho came with a cotton candy topping, adding to the tasty layers of this gin drink; I tried some chapulines with the guacamole ( when in Rome); quesabirria was EVERYTHING I ever imagined it would be. The meat filling was juicy and flavorFULL. The outside was crispy, yet chewy. It is served with a side of the broth; And finally, we finished off the meal with an espresso and a carajillo which was like ice cream!!! I loved Santa Diabla and am looking forward to returning on my next visit to SA.

Good and drinks

By Asia D |

This is a great place for that authentic Mexican cuisine! The margarita was made from scratch, none of that store bought sweet and sour. The environment was clean and friendly and all the dishes were prepared beautifully!

San Antonio eateries

Amazing tasty food. Corn ribs are amazing. Staff are great. A must when in San Antonio. Second time here and consistently great

Overpriced Street Food with ok cocktails

By Matthew D |

Went here to meet some family after a graduation. The service was great but the food, for what is was, was way overpriced. Same quality as a food truck, period. 3 small Birria tacos for $20? The cocktails and the service were the only saving grace for this place, the food left lots to be desired. We expected for the price something other than food truck quality stuff. They bring you salsa in small shot glasses and poor quality chips with a teaspoon for serving. They say things come with avocado and cilantro but it is literally a dab of guacamole and 3 sprigs of cilantro microgreens. Will definitely never return.

Mexican food with a modern twist!

By Carmen C |

Very delicious food and service! Authentic Mexican food with a modern twist. The Quesabirrias were excellent! Excellent food and very delicious desserts.

OMG - so good - going to become regulars

By San Antonio member |

Had friends visiting from out of town and needed a new Mexican restaurant because all of our usual spots were closed for Easter. So we checked out Santa Diabla and we are SO glad that we did. The space is fun and eclectic. The menu is interesting. And the food and drinks are outstanding. We tried three appetizers, one salad and one entre. We all loved everything, My husband and I have spent a decent amount of time in Mexico and this was easily some of the best Mexican food we have had outside of Mexico. Standouts were the birria (never had this good in the US before), aquachile de filete, and the camarones al aljio (really hoping that makes the permanent menu -it was just like you get in Mexico). Rashon our server was both helpful, attentive and funny. 5 STARS to Santa Diabla.

Very good

By Gary T |

We had lunch here before a visit to the Riverwalk. It's a cute place that was formally a service station I believe. It's bright and colorful with three roll up doors, plenty of indoor and outdoor seating and great service. I had the Ribeye Tacos and they were really good. Grilled Ribeye and guac on corn tortillas with a green sauce on the side and Charro Beans. A couple of folks had the Chicharron De Porkbelly and they also thought they were great. The Enchiladas De Mole was the only dish that got an okay as they were cited as being too sweet. The Churros for desert was enough for us all four to share and they were also very good. We'll visit again next time we are in San Antonio.

Tasty menu and delicious drinks!

By Marco B |

Stopped here after seeing it come up on Instagram and I couldn’t have been more pleasantly surprised by the food quality. The ceviche and quesabirria tacos were flavorful and the pan de elote dessert with rompope was a stand out. This is a place everyone should check out for a different take on authentic Mexican cuisine.

Brilliant food and service!!

By Daydream223287 |

Food was amazing and Ray who guided us through the menu was simply fabulous!! We are definitely coming back!! This is the first authentic Mexico me food we have come across.

Authentic

By sandiegodivers |

Authentic Mexican food. I am a super critic. This place is legit. Worth the walk/uber from the riverwalk. The salsa trio is fantastic

So loud

By Winter B |

They had the huge garage doors open! There is road construction going on and it was ridiculously loud! I couldn't hear my family talking! We ordered drinks before I realized I really wasn't going to be able to handle the noise. The dust flying everywhere was not exactly appetizing. Close the doors if you want to maintain business. We left after we finished our drinks and went somewhere else to eat.

If you’re staying downtown, the Uber is worth it!

By olemissdoc |

This is one of the most unique dining experiences I’ve ever had. The staff is great, and you must try the peanut butter habanero salsa with your chips. I’ve never had anything quite like it - kind of like the shrimp tacos. Connor was awesome at the bar - friendly and helpful. Can’t give it enough stars!

High End Mexican Food!

By Licinio G |

Not your typical TexMex but high end Mexican Food
from Puebla! Highly recommended. Service is Excellent! I have been here several times and I ask them to give me whatever dish they like and all of them have been Excellent! The drinks!!!! If you like Mezcal or Mezcal mix drinks, there is no better place to have a drink
Chingona and Chile are extremely tastefull

Mixed experience

By Helmut |

It was good, but definitely not great. The aguachiles were quite nice, so were the tostada and the corn ribs (albeit the latter a pain in the derriere to eat). The fried fish was well seasoned (and went well with the fresh tortillas) but grossly overcooked. The stab of death, however, was dessert. That tres leches was just horrible: The cake was not fluffy (more like a brick), the flavor was weird and the cream cheese on top just gross. Whoever came up with this abomination should be fired. Not wroth a repeat. There are plenty better food trucks.

Just do it!! Exceptional!!

By LedbetterLodge |

This place is the bomb! Casual atmosphere with exceptional service, drinks and food. Don’t let the location fool you, this place is top notch! Connor behind knows his drinks and flavors, and has the patience and skill to educate you on the higher side of beverages. The food was delish and well priced for more than ample portions. Make the time and take the trip- this place is worth both!

Excellent Food and Service!!

If you visit San Antonio or if you are a local, you need to eat at Santa Diabla! The ambiance and service are top notch. The place is super clean too. Our waiter Mateo was super friendly and attentive. He explained the menu, salsas and desserts. Everything was truly delicious, worth every penny!

Amazing Mexican Food

By dkathan |

My wife and I were visiting San Antonio to see the Missions and the Alamo. After reading glowing reviews on TripAdvisor, we went to dinner went to dinner at Santa Diabla. We were not disappointed! The food was excellent! Based on recommendations we had the Tuna Tostada. We loved the mix of flavors and would recommend. However, the star of the dinner was the Emmoladas Del Convento. Amazingly good! It is probably the best mole sauce we have ever had.

Drinks are also delicious, definitely recommend getting the margarita flight to explore their flavor options. They also have cute spots to take photos. Thank you Alvaro! You made our first time experience perfect. We’ll definitely be going back!

Must visit!! Everyone is so attentive and professional! Owner, bar manager, wait staff all touched the table. Great food! Very inviting atmosphere!

Good but not great

By tom |

Drinks were great service was great. Small casual place. Started with the ceviche and it was great. Had the beef ribs, very good. Wife had the filet appetizer as her main and wasn’t impressed, chewy.and not a flavor of a good filet. We would go back though and stick with traditional Mexican dishes.

Amazing food!

We really enjoyed our dinner here. The menu is quite unique and really creative. I have to eat gluten-free and dairy-free which they were able to accommodate quite easily. We started with the Aguachile de Filete. For a main course I had the Pescado a la Talla. I really liked the sauce of dried chile peppers and fresh herbs. Their margaritas are top notch. There’s free parking in the lot under the interstate.

Excellent

The food is great and the owner is very personable. I would recommend coming here if you are visiting San antonio

The very best of the best in San Antonio (& beyond).

By KeithG76 |

One of the finest dining experiences I’ve ever had (and I’ve had many including Manhattan, NY, Miami, Los Angeles, Seattle, Washington DC). Highly differentiated from run of the mill restaurants. Mariam was our service and is excellent. There is a reason that this restaurant is rated on Trio Advisor the #3 of 2,474 restaurants (in all categories) in San Antonio. Though we live almost an hour away, we will be back often!

Incredible food, reasonable cost, great service

By unknownCalifornia |

I was looking for a restaurant away from the tourist district, away from the crowds (the night before the eclipse) and potentially better food. Santa Diabla did not disappoint and, in fact, exceeded my expectations. The service was great. The waitress was friendly and very attentive, checking back often to make sure we had what we needed. But the food was absolutely the best and unbelievably reasonable. Our table enjoyed the included chips with 3 salsas, the Tacos de Lechon, Camarones al Ajillo, Enchiladas and the star of the evening - the Enmoladas del Convento. I'm Mexican and my grandmother always made mole, which was one of the reasons I chose the Enmoladas. But the meat, fruit, nuts, raisins and pommegranate took mole enchiladas to a whole new level. Wish I could duplicate that at home. I highly recommend Santa Diabla.

Santa Diabla is like eating in Heaven.

Dining at Santa Diabla was one of those experiences that makes you feel like you've discovered a treasure in San Antonio. From the moment we walked in, everything felt special, like they really went out of their way to make you feel welcome. The service was top notch; Alex was super friendly and knew a lot about each dish, which helped us a lot in deciding. The food, wow, I have no words. Each bite was a mix of flavors that made you want more. I don't know how they do it, but everything was delicious. And not to mention the desserts, I'm still dreaming about them. The place itself also has its magic. It is cozy, with a decoration that captures your attention and background music that perfectly accompanies the experience. It was one of those nights you don't want to end. In short, Santa Diabla is a hit. I'm already planning when to go back because once is definitely not enough.

Great great food

Diners delight

A true authentic Mexican experience. Our server, Maria was very attentive, friendly and very knowledgeable. She gave us her recommendations and she was spot on! The grilled Caesar was amazing and filled with flavor as was the sirloin bull shot
.wow. I could not have asked for a better meal. The margarita was epic and of course the pastel de elote was nothing short of bomb. Do not miss this spot!!

Disappointed

Food was a joke. Small portions, bland, expensive. I had high hopes from the reviews. Very disappointing. Staff was nice though.

Exceeded expectations

By Jacqui D |

Tried this restaurant based on reviews and truly exceeded all expectations. We were travelling from the UK and visiting friends who have lived in Texas for 18years who said this was the best Mexican they had been to! The special starters of fillet steak as well as red mullet ceviche were superb and highlights of the meal. Between the four of us we also shared queso to start and mains of shrimp, short ribs, chicken fajitas and pescado. The fish was the star of the mains. Would highly recommend this newish restaurant with excellent food and friendly service

Houstonian Couple Weekend Getaway to Authentic Mexican Culture and Cuisine.

By sassyclassyj |

My boyfriend and I came into town from Houston for El DĂa De Los Muertos festivities. The restaurants on the Riverwalk are good and nice for the view to the river but if you are looking for a burst of true Mexican cuisine with a array of Cocktails from true Mixologist, leaving the flavors of all you devour a lasting impact, you need to check the Authentic Mexican restaurant. It may not be by the Riverwalk, but the fairly new restaurants with its unique modern look will leave you wanting to come back. Starting with the water, it's not just water but flavor with cucumber. The chips and salsa are freshly made at the restaurant and not pre-purchase, and don't get me started with the salsa, especially the peanut spicy salsa! The Queso Fundido with Chorizo is mouth watering. for starters and their emoldada dishes, WOW! Talk about all the amazing flavors of the sauce integrated with the traditional and non-traditional enchiladas dishes. I could have one more dish if it wasn't for wanting another cocktail to enjoy. The entire meal with the drinks was unforgettable and made it difficult for us to leave and not taste the desserts. Seriously, if you genuinely want authentic Mexican gastronomy dishes, feeling enormously satisfied, this place is the restaurant to go to. It unconventional environmental may keep you hesitant, but it will leave, making you want to come back for more. This is coming from a Mexican who grew up eating homemade Mexican food that was truly blown away with this fresh restaurant!

Excelent!!!

Excelent service, the place looks The place is very cool, very modern, different, very well decorated, the food is unbeatable, it looks like a little corner of Mexico and the service is some of the best there is in San Antonio, I highly recommend them.

Must Go Place.

Must go in San Antonio. Great authentic Mexican in a casual setting. Service was great and save room for the Pastel for dessert!

The hype is legit

5 star Mexican? No way!
.,right? My wife was skeptical after seeing the menu. But, as the chips and salsa (and the spicy peanut salsa though!) then the appetizer, then the cocktails came, well, it was pretty much game over. We had the birria. The mains were steak and enchiladas. The mole chicken enchiladas I cannot rave about enough. The chicken so tender, the mole slightly sweet. I had an after dinner espresso cocktail which was prepared chilled, combined and shaken, then server poured at the table. Cheesecake dessert the liquor was lit aflame and poured over the cake, the blue flame self extinguished after about 10 seconds. Not just great food but an experience to boot. Check this place out if you like Mexican there is no way this could disappoint.

Must Visit in San Antonio

We visited Santa Diabla on a business trip and THIS IS A MUST! Their food was completely different from what you can expect from a Mexican Restaurant. This is truly authentic. Aside from the amazing food, our server was THE BEST! Ask for Maria if you ever go. She gave really good recommendations and made sure that we the food and drinks were up to our expectations. MUST VISIT if you’re in San Antonio.

Amazing flavors, delicious combinations and beautiful atmosphere. I am happy with my experience and would 110% recommend this restaurant to anyone and everyone. I was completely surprised with the quality of food as well as the care of the staff. Thank you! I will be back.

Can’t do it better.

We had a great experience at Santa Diabla. The service was excellent and the food was delicious. Parking under the road is plentiful, it at least on this day it was.

Cool new restaurant with a twist!

By Chaitan |

Cool new spot - enjoyed the decor and theme of the restaurant. We ordered a bunch of items on the menu and some were hits and some weren’t. Barbacoa wasn’t very flavorful. The corn ribs were a big hit. The fish entree had too much flavoring but the steak tampaquena was a hit. Also loved the taste and concept of the elote cotton candy desert but the presentation and execution left something to be desired. Great place though and recommend it for sure!

So glad we went! An artful, delicious experience — inspired, creative, and fun.

By Scott K |

Santa Diabla is a delight. This is not your typical tourist-trap Tex-Mex, but instead authentic Mexican cuisine that aspires to be something more: an artful (and delicious!) sensory experience. It is a rare treat to have every aspect of meal treated with such meticulous care. Chef Gabriel Jimenez has assembled textures, flavors, aromas, and visual appeal that were all off the charts for every course of appetizer, entrees, and dessert we enjoyed. And cocktails! The restaurant itself has a funky, eclectic style that feels as thoughtful as the food, and the staff were welcoming and cheery as they guided us through our options. A fantastic experience all the way around.

Overrated

By Shawn W |

Both my wife and I were so excited to try Santa Diabla. We read the reviews and watched that even bumped JPrime from the number 2 spot. They started strong. Three salsas and we couldn’t decide which were our favorite. Unique, complex and tasty. We ordered the guacamole and ceviche. The ceviche was average. The guacamole tasted like they didn’t even add salt. We shouldn’t have to salt our own guacamole. I measure many Mexican joints by their Birria (if they serve it). It should be exploding with flavors. This one fell flat, boring, bland and the consommĂ©? It tasted like someone had cut the consommĂ© with tap water. I could taste chlorine. My wife’s ribeye was better, much better. A bit tough to chew but the flavors were on point. Overall I would call this a 3 star experience at 120 bucks for two people. Next time I’ll save some money on date night and hit some of the hole in the wall Mexican joints.

Worth going to

Service was alittle slow but the food was amazing especially the corn ribs. I couldn't tell much about the drink menu but the TV screens explain them and I wish I hadn't noticed it sooner, they looked amazing.

Authentic Mexican Dishes
.I think.

By John C |

Service was great. But we decided that we like TexMex better than authentic Mexican cuisine. I thought it was a bit expensive for lunch.
