I didn't have the best appetite. But their caviar still allured me ;) "it can be better", says Al. I was satisfied ;)

Great green borscht

By Juan J C |

Went with a friend and we decided to share the red and green borscht, both were great, but my favorite was the green. He had the pork chop and i had the chicken cutlet, both were very good. The russian beer was good too, accompanied by a shot of vodka. Will definitely return

Stuff Yourself with the Stuffed Cabbage

By JVC4NYC |

Fabulously delicious authentic Russian cuisine (and typically stolid Russian service) in the heart of Little Odessa. They serve the best borscht I've had in NYC and the stuffed cabbage was mouth-wateringly fantastic. If they delivered to Manhattan I would order in twice a week. Take a day trip to enjoy the Brighton Beach boardwalk and then take the short walk to Skovorodka. If you like Russian food you won't be disappointed. When we were there a dazzling version of "Russian Idol" was on the wide screen TV giving the atmosphere a real Russian flavor too. A fun and delicious experience.

Visit Russia at the end of the Q train

By realhanes |

Found this place after walking out of another Russian restaurant along the Brighton Beach boardwalk and so glad we picked this one. Located just a few steps from the subway platform with an appealing front. The staff was friendly and answered questions about the menu which is both Russian and English. This place give you an immersion into the tastes of Russia. While you're dining there are some interesting Russian music videos playing on the TV and what appears to be the owner sitting back drinking tea and chatting with regular guests. Nice selection of food. The Pirogi wasn't what I was expecting, more of a puff pastry filled with meat but still tasty. We had Beef Stroganoff, very creamy and well prepared. Also tried the beef stew cooked in a clay pot which came with an enormous puff pastry on top. Everything was very good, served piping hot with good service and nice atmosphere. I felt the prices were a bit high but the experience was good.

Russian to the core

By Peeter P |

With Russian TV featuring coverage of American politics, Skovorodka is definitely a great place for a culinary Russian experience. We just wanted a light snack and an order of assorted pirogies and the Siberian dumplings was just the right amount.

Is Russian Food

By Departure48154379531 |

Hearty but bland and slightly depressing. The pierogies are decent but the chicken cutlet was not seasoned adequately. The waiters were like the food, bland and slightly depressing.

Excellent authentic russian food

By strannikny |

Borsch is excellent. Appetizers are the size of main dishes. We loved the herring with potatoes and fried potatoes with mushrooms. For main dishes try beef stroganoff with buckweed, fried hen (chicken tabak).

Great Restaurant. Great Food

By Andrew S |

Food was excellent. Service was very good. Would definitely go back. Great atmosphere and staff are friendly. Visited with a friend from Russia and he said it was pretty authentic.

Worth a visit.

By BD3856 |

We enjoyed our visit to Skovorodka. It's really easy to get to as it's next to the Brighton Beach Subway Station. We tried the boiled beef tongue appetizer which was rather flavorless and visually unappealing. We also tried the pan fried potatoes and the pelmeni siberian and the “skovorodka” style pirogies. Those three dishes were excellent. Our waiter made it easy to understand the menu and to order appropriately.

Neede a Brighton Beach expericne with the family.

Neede a Brighton Beach expericne with the family, so we came here. Some of us are Soviet Union Born, some are American born or grown, but we all had a great time. he lunch menu was perfect, where you pick 3 items for lunch price. Everything was delicious and fresh. Will return!

Fabulous Find

By juniemoonie |

Traveling with a family of six, including three children, we needed something larger than the restaurant I typically choose in Brighton Beach. Thanks again to TripAdvisor, Skovorodka came with excellent reviews. We were not disappointed. The ambience is bright and spacious. Skirt steak salad and the goat cheese arugula salad, the sesame seared tuna with tuna/avocado tartare, the salmon tartare and the chicken soup were delicious. While I'd had cheese pierogies before, I didn't realize they were a dessert dish. For my tastes, they were too sweet. I would recommend this restaurant to anyone who wants authentic Russian cuisine and just great food.

They know how to do Russian!

By J R |

This is a small restaurant and if you want to enjoy their food reserve days earlier. Because they always have large groups in the back the restaurant becomes limited to about 6 tables and those tables go quick! First of all I have to say the people are friendly and they allow BYOB. Wine or Vodka. I love Borscht but I have never experienced Ukrainian Borscht. OMG, made with fresh tomatoes this version is to die for. Next I tried the Stroganoff. Now I make an awesome stroganoff but I learned a lot from theirs. Creamy with tender pieces of filet mignon and done perfectly. Served with a side of mashed potatoes you better have a big appetite! The appetizers are delicious, I've had the salads, herring, and those awesome potato pirogue. Be care MCL with the pirogue, I bet you can't eat one. This is a friendly place where people seem to know each other so enjoy some of the true Russian/Ukraine culture and eat to your hearts content! Cheers

Good food!

By Michelle C |

We found our way to Skovorodka after a trip to the NY Aquarium. The food was really good but service was a little snobby. For example when a friend asked, “Tell me about the mushroom and cheese?” She got a shoulder shrug and and snide, “It’s mushrooms and cheese.” Four stars for food quality minus one star for service.

Russian Restaurant

By Ricaron |

I recently visited NY city with my wife where we met with her sister who resides out of the country. I offered to drive out of the city for something different for lunch. Since I was from NY I knew my way around. Now my sister in law is not easy to please. Anyway, I'll get to the point. I chose this restaurant. We were greeted and taken care of by the manager who really made you feel at home. There was no particular waiter taking care of us. They all cared and made you feel at home. The food we ordered was excellent. I won't mention exactly what we ordered because there was a big party behind us and I saw everything on the menu go to that table. It all looked beautiful, just as you see on a food show. If ever in New York, it's a must for great Russian home cooking

Great Russian restaurant

By Julia |

I'm Russian immigrant, so quite familiar with good Russian cuisine. I came here with a friend who was trying Russian dishes for the very first time. We both loved every single dish that we tried! Beginning with salad Olivie, green borsh, mutton shush kabob, vareniki with cherries! Food was very good and so was service and the atmosphere. Older DJ was playing beautiful romantic songs with some light effects. After a lovely walk on the beach it was very enjoyable to eat here!

Authentic Russian food - so yummy

By olasweetmol |

This is my second visit to this place. Both times highly satisfied. The prices are very nice for New York, and the food is delicious. I will be back for sure!

First class service, great food and prices

By Scubachick59 |

We went for lunch and we were warmly greeted by the staff. Very extensive and reasonably priced menu. Being Slovak, it was interesting to see some dishes that I grew up with, but prepared differently. Everything we had was delicious and the portions were very large (my daughter's grilled chicken covered the plate!). We ordered many appetizers, the Olivier salad, the pierogi, the stuffed cabbage and the cheese pie, all wonderful. My daughter's boyfriend and my husband ordered the traditional sausage and really enjoyed it. My mushroom soup was great and my daughter loved her chicken. Will definitely be back when in the area.

Authentic Russian food

This place never disappoints. Everything from the atmosphere to food is authentic Russian. Order herring with potatoes and a shot.

Chicken noodle soup without chicken

By pkateryna |

Walked in, asked for table for four, was told it's not available. No expected waiting time given. Decided to order take out soups. Was told waiting time 5 mins. Waited 15 mins. Meanwhile they got a free table but didn't offer it to us. The other big surprise was missing spoons and chicken, so we basically paid $5 for water with noodles.

Excellent Food and Service

By Vassili K |

We are always going to this restaurant when we are in New York. It's next to the Tashkent supermarket. In our taste the Olivier salad and the Pelmeni in Skovorodka are really the best! Very good atmosphere and service.

Rip off

By walking |

This place is rip off. The price of a soup at lunchtime advertised on the door is $4.50, but is was charged $10. The owner argued that this applies to a super special lunch price, which is not however mentioned in the ad.

Best meal in NYC in Years

By Todd E |

We are a party of six old friends that reunite several times a year for over 45 years. This time we tried this restaurant from near my old neighborhood in Brighton Beach, B`klyn. AMAZING! The service was surpassed only by the food. From Yana taking the reservations , to Yani the server, to Boris, who if he was not the owner, should be. Boris took the time to help us navigate the authentic menu fare . We all were amazed. Best meal in years, Chef Todd.

Nostrovia!!!!!

By strassbeee |

The food at Skovorodka is nothing less than incredible. My wife and I have been their twice in the past two months and loved it both times. We had the ocean salad which is similar to a Caesar salad with salmon roe, shrimp, and smoked salmon. It's huge, more than enough for two people and only $12. We also ordered the stuffed trout on both occasions. It's a whole trout which has been totally cleaned and deboned and stuffed with vegetables, bread crumbs, and covered with melted cheese. At $19 it's a steal. We've also had the house short ribs and the house chicken breasts. Both were excellent and attractively priced. As for drink, try the Russian beer, Baltika 7. It's a half liter bottle of 5.4% ABV for only $5. The vodka shots are also a steal at $5 each or a full bottle at $45. What a great find!!!!!

Tasty Russian food

By ruskyandy |

This restaurant served authentic and very tasty Russian food in the heart of Brighton Beach. The waiters were friendly, the menu offered a good selection and I enjoyed my meal - it took me back to my time of living in Russia

Simply superb

By Walter F |

Service couldn't be better - so helpful and friendly. The menu is expansive. Crepes with caviar, stuffed cabbage, blintze with raspberry, pirogue, eggplant, etc. Every dish was so flavorful. Would go back here in a heartbeat; really that good.... And it was inexpensive. $114.00, tip included for a party of 5.

Great find!

By Tom D |

Did a quick little search for a restaurant in Brighton Beach and found this little gem. Noticed only fellow Russians dining there with friends and family. The restaurant was brightly lit with tvs in each dinning room showing Brooklyn 12. Staff could have been more friendly. No hello, no welcome. Just "how many" and "ready to order?" That was the extent of our conversation. However... the food made up for the bright lights, cold decor and the sour waiters. Delicious cold beet soup, pate was wonderful, tasty dumplings and the beef stroganoff is something I'll go back for. Great meal!! Worth the trip!

Large selection of authentic dishes

By Valentine |

Small and cozy restaurant, the staff was peasant and helpful (some do not speak English), the food was delicious

worst russian food in Brooklyn

By Marusya757 |

For years we visited this place to have authentic russian food and was rather good. Last week we decided to have lunch there and were terribly dissappointed!!! The prices became very high and unreasonable, food was awful and the waiter was nasty and tried to push us not to take pre- fix lunch, that is not so expensive, but the dishes from the main menu! Finally we irdered herring with potato and garden salad from Main menu and couple of items from lunch menu. The quality of everything was BAD, After my complaints the manager told me that they did not change the Chef and the dishes are the same as they were couple of years ago. Its the Lie... Never will go to this place again and do not recommend it to anyone

The best of the best Russian food in Brooklyn.

By Renat T |

The staff is amazing kind ,friendly, helpful and polite. What amazes me is some thing that you barely ever see if you want to order something on the menu and the food isnt up to par the waiter will let you know and advise you to make another choice - for that alone they get two thumbs up. The food is even better the best Avocado salad I have ever tried anywhere, the country garden salad is phenomenal especially if you order it with no lettuce (that's more a personal preference) Skovorodka style ponchiki with meat are awesome just like i grew up eating at home, the main courses you truly can not go wrong I am obsessed with the Wiener Schnitzel best I have ever had including my mothers and as a Ukrainian that grew up with a mother who is a gourmet chef that is saying some thing. The Bronzini fried is another crowd pleaser, the lamb shank, the strogonoff I mean really you cant go wrong. Their only downfall is their dessert isnt really all that good - so you can skip dessert - but they dont make them so I dont fault them for it. Its a small restaurant that gets quiet busy on the weekends I would recommend making reservations, on the weekends they also have a good singer makes the plays more entertaining he plays the saxophone and sings songs in russian and some in american. Over all if you want great russian food, great prices, great service - you wont find anything better in brooklyn and imo: anywhere else. PS if you want to give it a chance but arent a 100% sold they have a great discounted lunch menu i think for like 10 or 12 bucks a person you get soup, appetizer and main course - the best waiters there are Yanik and Yura we visit this restaurant at least 2-3x a month and we eat out every night as my wife doesnt have time to cook.

Little Russia

By Vladimir t |

entertaining and cozy restaurant in Brighton Beach area good Russian cuisine and pleasant live music in the evenings

Borsh is very good there:)

By Anna G |

I've been to this place last month together with my friends. We ordered pelmeni, borsch, and different salads. I always order borsh in Russian restaurants and compare it with my homemade borsh. Pelmeni were homemade. I really liked their style. In terms of portion sizes and prices, we paid around $30 each for two different cources (incl. beer + a drink). Most of the clients of this restaurant are russian-speaking public, who I assume live in that area.

Great time.

By Jane G |

The food delicious ,the staff very nice, polite and helpful. We went with friends for dinner and had a great time.

very disappointed

By Lily S |

I came here with some friends and was embarrassed for choosing this place. Non of us enjoyed our choices.

A great restaurant.

By Jeff W |

Took our parents for lunch; their first trip to Little Odessa. What a vibrant community and a real step out of our own customs, traditions and language, right in our own backyard. We centered on appetizers. The vareniky and palmeni are tender, light dumplings stuffed with meat. Not at all heavy. The Ukrainian borscht (pictured) was garlic-forward, somewhat sweet, with pieces of chicken, beets and potatoes. Very flavorful. We shared a smoked fish platter, which was made up of sturgeon, sable, lox and butter fish. Really good. Also had the eggplant caviar, which was again, garlicky, but good. Also delicious were the blintzes (crispy on the outside, but light inside) and the stuffed cabbage (pictured). The latter was in a slightly creamy sauce. Very savory and good. We washed it down with compot, a not-overly-sweet fruit drink made with cherries and other fruit. Also, shots of vodka. The food was good. What made the meal excellent was the proprietor, Boris. He tended to our table, and shared some jokes. He made us feel at home, and I cant wait to return.

You must get the Ukrainian borsht

By Thero_Kenman |

I took my boys to have their first Russian meal. I ordered a spread of different dishes. The server suggested the Ukrainian borsht and the stuffed cabbage. I also ordered the smoked mackerel with potatoes, a chicken noodle soup, the little Siberian meat dumplings and salmon caviar with blintzes. The borscht was amazing. It is one of the best soups I have ever had. I would go out of my way to get this dish again. The stuffed cabbage was really good to. The rest of the dishes were good. Service was good.

If you like Russian food, this is the place to go.

By Scott W |

My wife and I were passing through Brighton Beach and stumbled upon Skovorodka on our way home. Parking can be a bit rough, but we were able to find a 2 hour parking spot. The restaurant is clean and the staff is friendly. You can find lots of locals here at all times of the day. We were promptly seated and taken care of. Being of Polish and Russian dissent, my wife and I tried the pierogies, virenkies, blintzes, stuffed cabbage and the red and green borcht. It was like Nana used to make when I was a child. All the food was great, and very good portions for the price. Next time we'll try some of the salads and smoked fishes.

Great find

My friends from Australia were visiting and we decided to find an authentic Russian restaurant in Brighton Beach near New York. Great food and attentive service and very good prices.

terrible service at lunch!

By JMS18 |

A group of six (incl. 3 kids) of us had lunch here on a weekday, and the service was awful. Maybe it was because we weren't drinking or weren't Russian, but we had to flag down waiters, ask repeatedly for more water (it was a really hot day), and when we asked where one of the dishes was, the waiter went into the kitchen and then never returned. When we finally flagged someone else down and said to forget it, just bring the check, he instead delayed 10 minutes and then brought us the missing dish. (Georgian cheese pie -- it was basically a large circle of pizza-type bread with a thin layer of cheese in the middle. Not at all what I was expecting based on a Georgian restaurant). The food was fine -- all very heavy. The beef in the shish kabab was tough, according to the person who'd ordered it. I wouldn't rush back there, that's for sure.

Great Russian Restaurant

By mpmclaugh |

I was in Brooklyn and wanted to go to a Russian restaurant. We chose Skovorodka because of the good reviews. We definitely weren't disappointed. The last time I had authentic Russian/Ukrainian food was on a trip to Ukraine a few years ago. The food at Skovorodka was excellent. We had a few appetizers and two entrees. The portions were generous and the prices were pretty inexpensive for eating in NY. I would definitely recommend this restaurant for anyone looking for good Russian food.

Authentic Russian!

By julia_hiker |

Loved this place--what a find! The meal was absolutely delicious. We ordered Ukranian borscht, chicken Russian style, weinerschnitzel, stuffed cabbage and salad. Whew! Would definitely return!

Great!

By vinnievinny |

Great food. Delicious. Had the borscht, blintz, smoked fish, pirogies and salad. All good. Great service. Highly recommended.

Beware of Hidden Service Charge

By YayeMama |

Had 2 lunch specials today. First one included a gargen salad, Ukrainian borsch and Tashkent half chicken and the other one included olivye salad, green borsch and chicken kebab. The olivye and green salad were good and a nice portion size. The Ukrainian borsch served with sour cream was also very good, but sadly the green borsch tasted like dishwater with floating pieces of cucumber. I've never seen green borsch served with cucumbers as it is a sorrel soup, but this one had pieces of frozen spinach but sadly no taste. Both chickens were very good - very juicy, tender and tasty. The kompote we had was also tasty. The service is basically non-existent - they serve the meal and then disappear. The place only had one other couple eating lunch on a Wednesday afternoon. When the bill arrived, there was a 10% service charge automatically added to the bill - without any warning or explanation. The only thing I could think of was they wanted to guarantee a tip, which we probably would not have left since there was a lack of service.

Top notch place

By Alexander R |

Went to a friend's birthday party on October 2. Excellent atmosphere. Great food. Great service. Excellent music. Very attentive to every tiny detail. Highest marks across the board. Highly recommended!

Delicious!

By LuchinoBrooklynNYC |

Dined with a friend. Both started with the low priced Caesar salad from the "Lunch Special" menu, which was an ala carte menu [unusual]. Then from the main menu, I chose liver and onion, whicu came with summer vegetables sauteed in a balsamic vinegar based sauce. The pieces of liver were cut into ravioli-sixed squares, lightly breaded and then sauteed. My friend ordered the pork cutlet sisu kebab with rice. He really liked it, ad I did my main course. The waiter had put down a big pitcher of cold water, so you don't have to order wine if you don't want to, but wine is available by the glass and by the bottle, as is beer. I was surprised that there wete not more people in the restaurant on a Yuesfay during lunch time, but it was a very warm afternoon.

Russian lunch stop

By Shane Z |

Great food with equal service. The borscht was excellent. This coming from an American-Russian who is very critical of her cuisine.

Authentic russian atmosphere and eating in Brighton Beach..a real fast journey to Russia

By Guy B |

The place was recommended to us for a fast journey, better said a quick diving, in the russian food and culture, a few blocks away from Brighton Beach. It is really so. The menu is displayed in Russian (you can get of course an English translation), the waiters speak Russian (you can of course switch to English), the decor is very similar to what you may experience there, Baltika is the reference beer. What else ? You can taste all russian specialities, including blini, salad "olivier", chicken Russian Style, borsh and cabbage dishes. Clients are mostly russian speaking..and you will pay in USD. An experience to be recommended.

Great place

By Cartwright M |

The owner is very friendly. We had an excellent herring appetizer and Czeck beer. We had a great time. We also enjoyed the saxophonist DJ. We'll worth a visit.

The real Russian deal

By Barry17149021 |

I have been to Minsk several times and with Skovorodka I felt transported back there. The decor was very Russian, down to the TVs showing a Russian singing contest. You can get Baltika beer by the bottle. The menu is of course of Russian dishes. Most of our choices got good reviews. I had an enormous Caesar salad with smoked salmon pieces and red caviar. Exactly what I wanted. Others had mushroom soup which got very good reviews and a lamb soup, which was deemed too greasy. A heavy typically Russian potato salad was good and so were the dumplings. I would be happy to return. The prices were reasonable, averaging about $12 per person.

EVERY TIME IS A WINNING MEAL - BEST MEAL IN NYC THIS TRIP

By lovethat |

Gathered with friends for lunch on Sunday- and it was a fantastic experience. Waiter was beyond friendly & helpful -spoke Russian & English. Restaurant is cozy, clean, and comfortable (not cramped). Food was fresh, delivered quickly. We ordered everything: Pelmeni, Piroshky, vareniki?, grilled meats, fresh vegetable salads; picked fruits (WOW - delicious), couscous, fried potatoes, and who knows what else. EVERY SINGLE ITEM was fresh, delicious & fantastic. One of my favorite restaurants in NYC!

Pretty good

By Lulu T. |

Our first time to try Russian food. We discovered this place in Little Odessa, Brooklyn. It was really good food. We were all very happy with our orders. Loved everything. Definitely worth the drive from New Jersey. Hope to try other dishes next time.

TOP Ranking

By Camarade_Camille |

Frankly the best meals we have had during our stay in NY (and almost the cheapest). The team is so nice, we were just arriving from JFK, had a couple of hours to spend so we jumped into a taxi and went eating at Skovorodka. We had heavy luggages to be kept safe and they gave a friendly hand, we were in a need for a taxi, they found one. One of the best souvenir we have in New-York. Little Odessa is top ranking

Ochen horosho

By Pavel K |

I suggest visiting this place if you’d like to acknowledge taste of real eastern european domestic food. Try borshch, vareniky and olivie salad

Excellent

By Jean-Baptiste A |

We shared this experience with the friends of different origins and everybody liked the restaurant including the kids. The food is good and fresh made, the personnel is friendly and helpful. The portions were quite big and the desserts were generous. We would recommend this restaurant to other people

Old school, authentic Russian

By H Marque |

Went with my family & had all my grandmother's best dishes. The beef stroganoff was excellent & everything was served perfectly. Really liked the pierogies and stuffed cabbage also.

Russia in Brooklyn

By LKM |

Tasty tidbits from Russia and the Ukraine. Some menu items are terrific, others a bit lacking in zest. We love the dumplings (palmeni). The stuffed cabbage is good, but needs a bit more oomph. The smoked makerel was a little rubbery, but the accompanying potatoes (with sour cream) were excellent. The restaurant features two TV monitors that show fascinating Russian (?) videos.

Borscht vodka herring yum

By Di_Australia1302 |

Yum! What a great little kitch restaurant. Food is as authentic as you will get anywhere. The herring was delicious served with pickled onion and potatoes. Chicken soup yummy. Pickled cucumbers just like zaida made! If you want some fun out of the heady NYC lights go and treat yourself!

Under L-Huge meal cheap and delicious

By scotpond |

Many places to choose from strolling under the L in Brighton Beach checking out the discount goods shops. We got lucky picking this one. Service excellent. Food delicious and more than we could eat at such reasonable prices. Soups by the bowl like grandma makes. I'm used to paying $1.50 per dumpling (pierogi in Polish) and making a meal out of 4 sized @ 3 to 4 bites each. Skovorodka serves bite sized dumplings (1-2 bites each) by the platter (see photo) stuffed full and dressed with butter and onions. Next time I might ask for more onions on the side but the amount served was satisfying. Only two fillings to choose from but both are tasty and the dough is light and tender. Williamsburg is a good location for E European food but walking along the boardwalk afterward, surrounded by conversations in Slavik languages can't be beat.

Very good food and sefvice

By Oleg G |

We visited New York with my son for a first time. I wanted him to taste Russian food, and he was really excited about it. We both found that this restaurant is really good, the food tasty and special, the service is very good. I recommend this place for everybody. I am vegetarian, and I easely found a lot of dishes for me too.

Very good

It was not expensive and very taste! Try Bass and borsh) home made kompot is super. Zzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzz

Take the Q Train to Russia

By Gramercy |

How do you rate a restaurant that makes no more pretense about its food than my grandmother did in the Bronx. This is Russian peasant food cooked very well. Nothing burnt or totally dried out. The sauces tend toward the sweet. The short ribs fall apart with your fork. Try the blintzes with salmon eggs. We had Georgian wine with our lunch. Sweet but not like Concord Grape wine. The perfect choice. The restaurant was pretty empty probably because everyone is on the streets. One of the most vibrant neighborhoods in NYC. Looks and sounds like the old lower east side and the el rumbling overhead completes the scene. Make sure you go into some of the Russian food markets.

Home-cooked style on Brighton Beach

By lubger |

If you don't mind "Russian style" all around you, this is a decent place to get a modestly priced and tasty meal. Some dishes are a bit overpriced, but the menu selection is pretty extensive.

Simply Splendid

By lauralonger |

The food here was absolutely delicious. It was the first time I had borscht and I highly recommend it. My stroganoff was yummy and rich. The portions were large and everything was reasonably priced. When were there we were the only ones not speaking Russian and it was packed with what appeared to be lots of local families and friends. The live music was also very pleasant. The staff was efficient but could have been a bit more friendly hence the 4 rating.

Fun at night under the el. In Brighton beach

By Allan S |

Fun place with great food , vodka and a floor show. The food was very Russian and heavy washed down with bottles of vodka. Good idea is to hire car service to drive and return you as too much booze is the usual order. Food's great especially pierogis. And meats Desserts are good too

Nice Place

By LumiereRoiz |

Came here for lunch. Service was very good, waiter smiled and showed us to our table. Food was very nice and tasty. We weren't rushed through our meal, so we enjoyed it. Abit pricey, but quality of food was immaculate.

Over priced and not authentic russian food

By Trail19854636639 |

Borscht was quite good. Ceasar salad had a lash dressing. Crepes with red caviar tasted like heated up. Vareniki tasted like deep frosted and even contained one with meat inside (vegetarians cautious). Home style beef stew in clay pot: beef was tender however over priced. Service was quite good but there are definitely better places to eat in New York. In summary the menu contains too many different things do the chef most probably has to heat up food when ordered.

Worthy of the stop

By OxanaPeace |

We stopped for lunch and were seated quickly. Waiters were attentive and friendly. We had borsch and mushroom soups, pelmeni and coffee. It's not exactly cheap, but it's affordable. almost all items start from $7. The interior is very odd. I think by night it might be used as night club.

Little Russia

By ckatmomi |

Since we live in NJ and needed to pick up our son and JFK airport we decided to miss some of the rush hour by stopping in Brighton Beach and having an early dinner. Unfortunately we missed the lunch special which seemed like a very good deal. Almost everyone sitting near us seemed to be Russian which was a good testimony for their food which was mostly every good. Mushroom soup and stuffed cabbage were very good. I did not care for their perogies which were not what I expected. They were deep fried and very doughy. Portions are very large and appitizers can easily be shared. Would go back to try other dishes. Decor was very nice. Service as a bit slow since they were getting busy and only had one waiter handling the whole room.

delight

By lm45 |

very nice ambiance, delicious food started with smoked fish and potatoes, salads of tomatoes and cucumbers lamb chops were tender and moist, filet mignon cooked perfectly served with portobello mushroom and mashed potatoes. mashed potatoes were whipped and tasted great! would come back again.

Fun and Authentic Russian Restaurant in Brighton Beach

By Kim D |

Known as Little Russia, Brighton Beach offers a beautiful beach, extensive boardwalk and some fun places to eat. Skovorodka is located right on Brighton Beach Avenue, convenient to the subway. The interior is spacious and quiet and offers an extensive menu. Waiters are happy to help you figure out dishes you'd like to sample. Their explanations were sometimes hilarious, but always well meant. The portions are HUGE. Why not order a couple of entrees and split them? Excellent soups. Lots of what Russians call "salads," which are veggies with meat or seafood and mayo. The service in impeccable. The live music was great fun-from Russian folk music to Michael Jackson. Recommended.

Excellent and real Russian

By Filippo T |

My wife is Russian and we went here, just to find out they are real Russians too and the cuisine is both real and very tasty Russian one. Very nice atmosphere with live music. It looked almost more Russia here, than in Russia!

Very Good Lunch

By FarTravelingGuy |

My son and I went to Skovorodka on April 27th 2016 for a Russian lunch while on our first visit to Brighton Beach. The food was very tasty, the service was attentive and excellent. Our lunch was a real treat. They offer a lunch special from 11 to 4 so we ordered from that menu. Three picks of items: we both had Ukrainian red borscht with sour cream (delicious), salad Olivier (good but just typical), and a chicken dish. My son had chicken tabak, a Georgian style, while I had chicken cutlets Russian style. Mine was OK but his was better. All the food was very well presented. We washed it down with homemade compot (pretty much like the mors that I learned to like on my trip to Saint Petersburg a few years ago). This restaurant is very good, even if not great. I would certainly recommend it to a friend.

Absolutely outstanding, creative Russian cuisine with friendly service

My sister and I came in for an early dinner on the first night of our Brooklyn vacation, not really knowing what to expect. We felt completely welcome from the moment we stepped inside. Despite its unimpressive facade outside, the restaurant was spotlessly clean and very pleasant inside, with skylights letting in lots of natural light. They even had a nice, wheelchair-accessible bathroom. But the real treat is the food. We were blown away by everything we tried. The salads are huge -- these are definitely portions meant to be shared by multiple people at the table. We loved both of our salads. The goat cheese salad had a rich, tasty dressing and big, juicy mushrooms. The eel kani salad was even better. A heaping pile of seafood salad, topped with seaweed salad and large, flavorful sliced of roast eel. Honestly, it was better than a lot of eel I've had in Japanese restaurants, which are more known for eel. The blinchiki with farmer's cheese were small, but delicious, and I loved that they came with both cream and jam. And they had pickled watermelon! That was definitely a real taste of Eastern Europe. Next time I'm going to try some of their many other unusual pickled things. And don't forget the vodka! You can buy it by the shot, served in the cutest little glasses, at very reasonable prices!

Enjoyed the lunch special

They offer a choice of reduced priced salads, soups, entrees and kompot fruit drink weekdays from 11AM-4PM. I was the only customer on a weekday afternoon but that was because of the atmosphere or food. I suspect relatively few tourists take the subway ride out to Brighton Beach at any time so the restaurant probably depends mostly on locals for whom evenings and weekends would be dining out times. Having, visited Russia last year, I am pleased to report the food here was better than Moscow and cost only half as much. It was pleasnt to order in English rather than attempting it with my mangled Russian.

Easy to find, good food , no ambiance
