Mmm great Q surly bartender

By Bryan T |

These guys really do good pulled pork. They do Inventive Huge sandwiches and pork ribs both of which are amazing. . I'd had a customer service problem before so hadn't been there in a very long time. Ordered by web to go. The guys at the line said to go to the bar for food. Bartender was surly--no idea why, I was friendly. Asked if there were containers for sauce to go with the sauces, which are plentiful e and he said I didn't need extra sauce. That I'd ordered the ribs dipped and the sandwich had sauce on it. I told him I wanted extra sauce and he sauntered to the back and came back with *one* 2 oz sauce container. You can't really do that and not get bad ratings. People expect you to be nice in Austin.

Solid local bbq

By WildBillATX |

Learned about SLAB on Triple D. What a great find. Local que with a local flair. Tender and flavorful ribs. Very tasty chopped brisket, as well. The pulled pork got rave reviews by my sons. Especially liked the sides - baked beans and potato salad. Give them a visit!

Best BBQ in Austin

By rglaze2018 |

We've lived in Austin for six months and have slowly been sampling all the local BBQ. So far Slab is the best by far. There pulled pork, brisket, sausage, and chicken are all superb. The sandwiches are pricey but they're so big that you won't need to order a side. For your first trip I suggest the Notorious P.I.G. The restaurant also has a small tap room with several different local beers on tap at reasonable prices ($5-$6 if my memory serves). The staff is also really friendly and enthusiastic about BBQ.

Nice find.

By Jeff C |

We were on the area around noon and started to look for a place to have lunch. TripAdvisor once again didn't let us down. It's in a strip mall next to another restaurant with a much smaller entrance. But once inside we knew we were at the right place, it was packed! Even so we found a place to sit and our sandwiches were delivered promptly. We had the brisket and the smoked chicken sandwiches. We had the baked beans and mashed potatoes for sides. Everything was great especially the chicken sandwich and the beans which quite possibly be the best I've had in a restaurant. This is a great little restaurant!

Well Worth the Trip!

By Dble-D |

Some of the best bbq we've had in a while. Great service and staff was very friendly. I had the donk sandwich and my wife had the pulled pork. Both were amazing. Good knowledge of gluten-free options and had a convenient ingredients book to order from. Sauces were amazing. Would definitely return.

Great food

By TomWarren |

The Barbeque was excellent. We had a party of four, and everyone enjoyed their meals. I'll certainly go back the next time I'm in Austin.

Lunch with my son

By manuelmT4329LQ |

The Tony Montana meal is fantastic. The service is great and wait time to order is about 3 to 4 minutes.

Really solid. Will definitely be back if I am ever back in Austin.

My buddy and I stopped in here while in town for a wedding. For whatever reason, probably because there were pickles and sauce standard on most everything and I don't really like either, I found it kind of a pain to find something on the menu that really did it for me. I don't like being a pain and customizing things, in general. After a bit of internal maligning and hand-wringing, I ended up ordering the Jefe with no sauces and a couple other modifiers. What came out was a bun with more meat on it than I have ever seen in a single sandwich, other than MAYBE a BLT I got at a Jewish deli in NYC one time. It was to the point where you're not entirely comfortable with picking it up and trying to take a bite without looking like an idiot. I've seen places that put skewers in their sandwiches or burgers before to hold them together, but generally they're ostentatious and unnecessary. In this case, however, had they not put a skewer in the sandwich, it most certainly would have fallen over. I also got some smoked gouda mac and cheese, which, although very good, was not quite the star that the sandwich was. So, anyone can put a bunch of meat on a sandwich and a lot of diners will be happy because at least they get perceived value for their money. However, I am of the opinion that a lot of bad food is still just bad food. So I'm usually skeptical when I see places load you up on volume because they (generally) skimp on quality. Honestly, nothing could have been further from the truth in this case. Awesome sausage...probably the best smoked sausage I have ever had. Awesome chicken. Awesome brisket. I think there was rib meat on there too, which I'm sure was also great. The bun was big enough that you actually could pick it up and eat it. Everything was balanced. The staff members we spoke to really seemed to buy into whatever the owner is doing there. They seemed proud of the place, and there's a lot to be said for finding and keeping a staff like that. I liked this place a lot. I am not the barbecue connoisseur that most native Texans are (I'm from northern NY), but this was as good as any BBQ I've ever had. I hope they keep doing what they're doing.

Great BBQ!

By Lindsey S |

Excellent food, excellent service! The meat is absolutely amazing! Every single sandwich is great! We also ordered for my office and they went above and beyond and delivered our lunch to our door. You guys are great! Thank you.

Second visit

By ChattyAbby |

This was our second time and again they were great! The bbq brisket and ribs taste very good and fall off the bone. This time though, I tried their famous slaw sandwiches despite being a little nervous. I had the BCBC, brisket and chicken combined sandwich and it was delicious. The employees that work there are always super friendly and the homey little bar area makes it a nice place to stop for a drink too. My husband and I sat for a bit and watched his sport on the tv which was welcomes relaxation. The potatos weren’t my favourite and tables a bit messy but we definitely want to support this place!

Unique place with a funky vibe

By Texasgaltravel |

We were wanting some BBQ but not a chain. This was it. The food was good and plentiful. Some neat artwork through out too.

Banana Pudding

By Tanya D |

I come here for this banana pudding every time I am in Austin. The pudding itself is excellent but you get a delicious cut out cookie too! Hands down the BEST!!

Great BBQ

By Norma B |

I accidentally stumbled across this wonderful BBQ joint while shopping at Furniture Row. I had the chopped BBQ, side of beans & tea. Very large sized sandwich, it was perfect & the beans were also good. I thoroughly enjoyed the mild BBQ sauce. Lots of people enjoying the ribs. Next visit for sure I will try their ribs & sausage. They have BBQ & beer specials on Tuesday.

You must try this place!

By travel-sister2016 |

Our hotel suggested this restaurant and no one in our group was disappointed. We told the girl at the register that we were not familiar with the menu and she gave us some great suggestions. Portions were generous and all delicious. Price was appropriate. Nice outside eating area. I would definitely go back to Slab.

Not Texas BBQ

By Nate |

Fellow worker and I have tried this place twice, sub-par bbq. Too many really good places in Austin to waste time here.

Nice change from TX BBQ

By crazyAustin |

It was my first time there with my son, we went on Wednesday when kids eat free. Took a while to figure out what we wanted, but was pleased with everything. I had the three sliders & baked beans to get a taste for the various flavors, my son had a chopped brisket slider, & cole slaw. They serve beer there so very nice! The baked beans were KC style, very sweet and molasses based with chunks of beef in them. I love that general flavor but my son thought it was too sweet. My son liked the mustard based cole slaw, I thought it was just okay. We were filled up for $15 (kids eat free), this is a really great deal and will now be one of our "go to" locations for Wednesday nights when we are in that part of town.

Exceptional BBQ

By GmannAustin |

One of the finest BBQ establishments in Austin. Easy access from the 183 Parkway. The Ribs with glaze are some of the best in Texas, Yes, that good.

Do It!!!

By austin_TexasLkd |

Slab bbq is tucked away on 183. Go for food great bbq imaginative Sammie’s and good beer. Casual relaxed great food.

Friends out on the town

By MJ78239 |

Went to a coworkers BBQ place while we were in town. This was a nice change from the normal Texas BBQ only, it has SC and AL style BBQto include a very nice white AL BBQ sauce that is smooth and tangy on the back of the throat.

OMG

By Riccardo D |

My god. I've visited this place twice and it was unbelievable both times. Something that surely stands out are the ribs. THE RIBS. Please go and try them. Lots of nice locals and not beers too. Definitely going back there again for some more ribs.

Great BBQ

By GMan565 |

Met an old friend here for dinner. The menu is fairly short, but everything on it sounded delicious, making it difficult to order. I settled on a Texas Two Step sandwich on a jalapeno bun (brisket and sausage with all the fixins) a 1/2 slab of ribs (which were half price) and a side of potato casserole. All of it was tasty and none of it went to waste. The sauces on the tables had great flavor as well. They had a good selection of micro brew beers as well served up cold. Definitely a BBQ place not to be missed.

Pulled pork heaven!!

By Zelina N |

We were running errands in the area and asked our 14 yr old what he wanted to eat for lunch and he said “BBQ or Chic-fil-a.” So we went the BBQ route since Slab just so happened to be in the same parking lot. Did NOT disappoint! My husband and I ordered the Notorious P.I.G Sammich, the only difference being I ordered with the Jalapeno cheddar bun with jalapeños and spicy sauce. Our son ordered the Texas Two Step with brisket. He said it was the best brisket sandwich he had ever eaten. I agreed with him about my pulled pork. The meat was very tender and the bun was light, so it didn’t feel like eating a brick. I could have shared there was so much meat in the sandwich and I got most of it down except the last 1/4... delicious. There was just the right amount of slaw and sauce, yes it was messy, but not too much. My husband looked it up after he got done eating and it’s Zagat rated. It supposedly started as a food truck and then found a spot to open! This is a little gem! We will be back!!

Great BBQ sandwich

By SSShepherd |

The sandwich was awesome and everything you'd expect. Same for the sauces and potato salad. Cole slaw was the only disappointment but I will definitely return.

Awsome

By 87daled |

This is some of the best BBQ I have ever had. The staff are amazing! They started in a food truck and have made the move to two brick and mortar locations. Tuesday nights are half price rib night. A must place to eat in Austin!

Great BBQ

By TheTexasFoodie |

We love the innovative ways they do BBQ here. We usually get the BBQ nachos, topped with your choice of meats and a plethora of other things like queso, onions, pickles, backyard bbq sauce...and you'll have enough left over for dinner for 2. I had the slider trio, three buns full of three different meats and toppings...one with chicken, another wit' classic brisket and another with pulled porky goodness. We slipped into food induced carb comas when we got home ...and dreamed about SLAB goodies we'll snarf on pour next visit.

Great Sandwiches

By 1st_WorldCitizen |

I do declare that I have found a new true sandwich venue. I was hungry and something substantial was required. I consulted my Yelp app whilst waiting for my meds at the pharmacy and Slab BBQ & Beer was the first to appear. The app advised me that Slab BBQ was going to open in 23 minutes which was perfect. I arrived at Slab BBQ about 5 minutes prior to it opening for business, enough time for me to check out the scratch sheet (menu). At 1100hrs, I was pulling the handle on the door and walking towards the counter to place my order. I ordered The Donk which is a one pound sandwich stacked with every smoked meat they have available (pulled pork, smoked chicken, St Louis pork ribs, prime angus brisket and sausage) topped with pickles, onions, jalapenos, queso and mustard coleslaw. Since Slab BBQ doesn't do plates, I ordered 1/2 pound of St Louis pork ribs. After placing my order, I sat at the beer bar and Lou, helped me decide to have the IPA 512 as my adult beverage which also served as a digestive. Wish they had free refills on the IPA. Indeed, I shall return.

Saw Slab BBQ and Beer on Triple

By Diane B |

Saw Slab BBQ and Beer on Triple D. In town for personal business and planned to have lunch there. OMG! This is not your parents BBQ. This place is incredible. I had the BBQ Nachos and my husband had the OG and we added some ribs. The ribs were banging!!! Tender and tons of flavor. Wish they were in Houston. Great job Slab!!

Best BBQ sandwich in Austin

By Roger B |

Having tried most of the selections on the menu, I nominate this place for the best pulled pork sandwich in Austin. Slab is a great lunch spot, just get there early to avoid the line. Great selections and sides. The only thing missing is a hot towel to clean up with.

Lunch break

By Daniel E |

The crew goes to SLAB at least one a month and everyone loves it. Big portions and reasonable prices. I always get a donk and finish it before leaving, usually takes me 20 minutes and feel like I'm in a food coma.... yummy.

Great lunch

By Ronnie M |

Direct and to the point menu...BBQ. Don't need all the fluff just straight good food. Nice that you can order the sandwiches deconstructed, so that way if your not fond of the flavor of something your meal is not ruined. We all had a great time and the employees were wonderful. They were tickled that we were from Ohio and chose this place.... so glad we did!

A must if you're in Austin

By Eric N |

Great food. Super ribs cooked to perfection. The Donk is a huge sandwich piled high with samples of all their meats. Excellent! Do not miss this place! Great local beers on tap.

Beef It Up!

By G U |

Date: 09/20/18 Time: 1:44pm Restaurant rating: D Meal: Texas O.G., BBQ Baked Beans and Dirty's Chips Cost: $14.07 This was my first visit to Slab BBQ & Beer and I had high expectations. I read the yelp reviews and it seemed to be an average to above average BBQ place. Before I begin my review I encourage you to read my review on several other BBQ locations. I mention this as a point of reference that I know good quality BBQ and sadly this location didn't measure up. The restaurant has a well maintained exterior and interior grounds. Upon entering the establishment you get a quaint vibe with an adequate seating capacity. There were several decor items, shown in my photos, that were really cool. So visually the establishment looks great, but we are here for the food, right? I looked at their menu online prior to my visit and settled on the Texas O.G. and added BBQ Baked Beans with Dirty's Chips. I was the only one in line and I had a wait of under 5 minutes for my to go order. The staff was average in that they weren't overly enthusiastic or rude. They were there to take your order and see you on your way. Upon arriving at home I was impressed in the manner that they packaged the order. All the items that I ordered were enclosed inside the to go box and it smelled inviting. I added my jalapeños to my burger and grabbed a spoon for my beans. I was hungry and ready to taste my food! Upon my first bite I knew I was in trouble. The beef was very dry to the point of having a grainy texture and had "hidden fat". I was expecting a lean chopped beef burger, but several bites contained more fat than I am accustomed to for this price of a sandwich. They include sauce with their meat, but it had such a bland taste that I never tasted it. I was barely half way through my burger and I had no urge to continue eating it. I opted for the white vs jalapeño bun with my sandwich. The chopped beef was lukewarm and to be honest I don't think the temperature would have mattered much. I showed a few of my friends the pictures I took of the sandwich and they were not impressed. They asked if it tasted as bad as the chopped beef looked and sadly I had to say yes. I decided to try the beans. This was a bad decision on my part because the beans were so sweet. Think of beans glazed in sweet potato and that will give you an idea of the "sweet taste". Sadly, I didn't even eat one spoonful of beans and threw them away. The only positive thing I can say here is that the beans were warm. My only salvation were the Dirty Chips (sour cream and onion). I wish I had bought a total of two to three bags of chips had I know the qualify of food was going to be so unappealing. In all fairness to this establishment I only ordered the Texas O.G. Perhaps there are other non-related items on their menu that will wow you. In my opinion, if you're looking for a great tasting BBQ chopped beef sandwich you will not find it here. I do not think I will ever visit this location again because I have a strong preference for chopped or sliced beef and the quality of their meat was not appealing to me for the reasons notated above.

Awesome Strawberry Jalapeño Sauce

By CHANDRA B |

Definitely worth visiting if you like something other than basic bbq. I had the St. Louis Ribs with strawberry jalapeño sauce, they were awesome. Just enough sauce, with a little kick, to add flavor to the meat. Not a wide variety of sides which is why I gave 4 of 5 stars. There is a small bar area where beer and wine is available. Good place for families and/or friends to eat dinner. Our bill, dinner for 3 adults, no drinks just water, totaled $42.

Food Review Pending, Left Restaurant due to lack of Service

By la_vida_es_bela |

We went here on a Thursday afternoon near 4pm, entered the restaurant to see (at least) 5 staff members inside. We walked up to the register and were told they were busy with a shift change and to go get service at the bar area with barely a hello or welcome greeting. No other customers were inside. 2 people were eating at table outside as we entered. Not feeling a positive vibe upon entering, we decided to leave and go eat at one of our favorite hamburger places (on Anderson Ln); We may decide to visit again another time and actually buy some food - for this particular day, it didn't seem like something we'd want to try.

Great food at a great price

By Meg C |

Everything we had here was excellent. It was hard to decide which sandwich to get. We all got some variation of the brisket and it was excellent. The staff was very friendly.

Late to THIS spot

By GMc |

Knew of this place for a while, but just went. I definitely will be back! Our table had a variety of things from sliders to Texas Tornado and ribs. My Tornado was not typical BBQ, but was SO satisfying. I thought OK, but can they do REAL BBQ? The ribs say YES!! New go to Q spot.

Very good BBQ and sides

By Sones27 |

OK, the Slab is close to my work-- but I am happy to eat lunch there whenever I want BBQ. Very good sandwiches, sauces, sides-- with cheerful staff. Reasonable prices, and you will be served pretty quickly--no long waits. Good place.

Great BBQ

By JeenaC |

We found this place before heading to the airport to travel home from our Austin vacation. GREAT brisket sandwiches - my husband had sliced and I had chopped. Both were excellent. The coleslaw had a special dressing which was great and the twice baked potato casserole was very good as was the banana pudding. Excellent meal. The owner stopped by our table and told us about their sauces - all were very good. Highly recommend this place! I wish we had one in Oregon.

It was pretty dope Q

By Ryan S |

It seemed to be a sandwich only kind of place with a good selection to choose from. Lots of beers as well. I had the Trill and it didn't disappoint. Good sauce as well

Fun Place

By Jason G |

I ordered their largest sandwich. It was a combination of all their styles of BBQ. It was a ridiculous amount of food. I needed many beverages to wash it down, but was pleased I managed to finish it all! The bartender was great. Very good staff make it a fun adventure.

Great spot

By wick1979 |

Really good beer selection on tap. Sandwiches are huge with plenty of meat on them. Counter ordering is horribly slow but the food comes out with the quickness. One would think they would make it more cafe/subway style for quicker processing. Don't miss it of your in the area.

The "Jefe" Sandwich is the Boss!

By JDSoui |

Had a good lunch while traveling for work. The ambiance was unique and the environment welcoming. The food was delicious - the jefe sandwich was fresh and savory. The bread was fresh, the sandwich had some nice spice and people welcoming. Would definitely go back if in the area.

Great ribs!

By Norman M |

We were invited to have dinner here from a friend. I almost missed it as it is in a strip mall next to a very large Pub. I would have not expected the restaurant to be part of a strip mall. Once you walk in, the have a row of high top tables in the center with stools and normal tables around those. This is a cafeteria style restaurant where you order at the counter and they bring it out to your table by number. Tonight was 1/2 off rib night and we ordered 3 pounds of ribs to be shared. The ribs came out on steel plates and smelled great. The ribs came with a sauce for the ribs and it had the consistency of strawberry jam. While it was good, I thought it was too sweet for the ribs. On the table, they have two other BBQ sauces that I thought were much better. They had less sweetness with a tang of vinegar which I like better. Ribs and service were great, so we would come back if we are around.

I was pleased and stuffed...

By S S |

Guy Ramsay did a show here for a reason...the food is delectable! The environment was inviting. All of the walls were like art including some graffiti that made me think of N.Y. My son had the BBQ Nachos of which he had almosted finished before we got to the table. I had the pulled pork Hash plate with the pepper and onions. It was delicious also. My hubby had the the Slider Trio of which he said was great... Be Warned! The Chicken With Attitude is super spicy, but tasty. The owner is very, informative and good looking. The names of his dishes have meaning. You will have to go to find out. He serves Moonshine tea which is not alcoholic and has a nice story behind it also. Thumbs up!

Best BBQ in Austin!!

By Nanajan1949 |

We’ve been there several times and we believe it’s the best BBQ in Austin!!! Very fresh and creative combinations of ingredients and the meats are always so tender. Stop by! You won’t be disappointed.

Great sandwiches

By Danny B |

We got take out from Slab BBQ. My wife & I got the notorious P.I.G & it was very good. Also got a side of baked beans & potato salad. Very generous portions on the sandwich. Son got the Texas Two Step with chicken & brisket & he really liked it also. Would definitely go again!

Private event food truck

By carlie07 |

I had SLAB come out to cater a private event for 20 people, and they were amazing! Super helpful and accommodating from start to finish. Willing to help me with whatever I needed. They event brought a tent since it was raining. Food was AMAZING! Great brisket sliders, really tasty sides. Those who had the chicken sliders enjoyed them as well. Great food, good people!

1rocker

By Tony S |

This was my first visit to Texas so I wanted to find some authentic bbq. So glad I picked this place. I would highly recommend this dive to everyone visiting Austin. As you can see from a few pictures this should temp you. At the least come and try the nachos!!!!

Wow. Did not Disappoint.

By Cat G |

Everything was great here. The servers were nice, the food came quickly, and it was AMAZING. We will be back here next time we’re in town. Can’t go wrong here. It’s cool that it was on DDD too!

Great Place

By tom b |

This a place to go. Great service at the counter and great food. I had the Tony Montana which was very good.

A largely undiscovered gem

By TexDave52 |

Austin is known for great BBQ. Add another one to the list. Slab BBQ is top-of-the-line BBQ and their sandwiches are enormous. Especially try "The Donk." It's huge and delicious. Personally, I'm not a fan of their "dank sauce" but the other choices they offer are outstanding. Get it on the Cheddar/Jalapeno bun. For I think $10 it's a deal. It's easy to overlook in a non-descript strip center at 183/Burnet, but it's certainly worth a moderate effort to find. P.S. No long lines that many of the other premier BBQ joints have.

Delicious

By mudbound321 |

Food was so delicious! Practically gobbled the whole thing down! My two teenagers and husband enjoyed it too! Beer and BBQ ribs, can't go wrong in this place.

In the land of BBQ this place earns a "Meh"

By Kenny S |

Slab came very highly rated by my co-workers, and as a frequent traveller to Austin, I was looking forward to this place. However, it just didn't measure up to the hype for me and I kind of half-heartedly made it through my sandwich and mediocre potato salad. To it's credit, Slab isn't bad, it's just not great either. If this state (and city) wasn't known for great BBQ, this place would certainly shine other places. All that being said, I'm willing to give this place another shot on my next visit (maybe to try this Notorious P.I.G. that my friends were enjoying). I hope to like it more next time!

Over rated

By BeachbumAggie |

Bland bbq, bland potato salad, this place was so busy n I don't know why other than few options nearby. Our coworker from Wisconsin said she loves it but really, what does she know!? The 2 locals of the group, we were not impressed.

Good Service

By rboykins71 |

I had the sausage sandwich. Not a fan of jalapeno's on sandwiches. The sauce was not my cup of tea. Nice size sausage link and bread.

Great BBQ

By Cat D |

Nice variety of selection from mild,to spicy. All kinds of meat that can be ordered separately or all together. Staff was friendly. Very helpful on my first visit to understand the best selection for my tastes.

Best BBQ I have ever had

By drwarsak |

I was looking for a good place to have BBQ when I was in Texas visiting my son. He took me to Slab where I had a 3 sandwich sampler plate. They just kept getting better and better with the last pork BBQ sandwich having a phenomenal smoky taste and flavor. One of the highlights of my trip to Austin. Cant wait to go back.

Not Bad For The Price

By Me and Her After Kids |

As far as BBQ I have had better, but we are in Austin right? So things have to be a little different. I had a huge messy three meat burger that was a challenge to eat. There is no way to do it classy that is for sure. I didn't care much for the slaw but everything else was pretty good.

Great BBQ Sandwich

By RobertRAH-64 |

The sammich I had was great! Jalapeno bread piled with three meats and BBQ sauce. Doesn't get much better than that. the BBQ beans were pretty good too. Everyone at the table wolfed their sammiches down. Not much talking during this lunch.

Yuppie BBQ Joint

By TophersTravels71 |

Kind of a yuppie place, though I have no complaints. The beer selection was pretty good and the food was very well cooked and seasoned. It was in a strip mall kind of place, but our group of business colleagues all were happy with our selection of this place.

Lunch after shopping

By trouthook69 |

Both brisket and ribs were great. We had theMcDowell and the OG to get a taste of ribs and brisket. Sandwichs were big enough to take half home for dinner. Mac and cheese pretty tasty also. Service at cash register was poor. Not greeted and worker just seemed he did not want to be there. Food does come out quickly. No issue with taste sauces had lots of flavor. Would recommend if you want a good BBQ sandwich

Refreshing change from your average joint!

By Marianne R |

At first I, like the other reviewer, was surprised there weren't more "meat plate" options; however, it didn't stop me from getting into the BBQ sandwich groove. Keep an open mind people! I ordered the Texas Two Step with brisket and sausage on the Jalapeno bun. Really, really, really delicious! I thought the brisket was good; my husband thought it was excellent. And I thought the sausage was excellent! And I try sausage at every place I can. I ended up eating it separately because I liked it so much and I wanted to eat the sandwich with just brisket on it. The bun was super soft and the sauce was rich and tasty. My husband also ordered ribs and they were delicious and did indeed fall off the bone. They basted them with a glaze that is sweet and wonderful. It definitely added to the flavor of the ribs. I did not think it was particularly pricey for what you got, but we did happen to be there on half-price rib night (Tues) unexpectedly. Staff was very friendly. We will definitely be coming back here soon.

MMMMMMMMM.... My mouth waters every time I think of my meal at SLAB!

By Kim L |

I had the Notorious P.I.G TWICE now and will have it again next time I go! Delicious flavor in the pork as well as the cole slaw! I was happy that they introduced me to Moonshine Iced Tea, too. Locally brewed and bottled... delicious sweet tea! My husband and son both had the Texas O.G and loved it. We're looking forward to going back and trying a few other things on the menu. My only criticism is that the music is a little loud, but that seems to be the norm at most restaurants now. So are the TVs on the wall, but most consumers WANT that (I'm weird), so it may not be a deal-breaker. There is a "front porch" to eat outside when the weather is nice.

Great BBQ

By GmannAustin |

Possibly the best ribs in town ? They're good. Especially the glazed. Good selection of craft beers. Try it.

Fabulous bar b que in a strip center

Really great BBQ sandwiches

By enboruk |

I got the Texas Trill and it was delicious! My wife ordered the McDowell that was a special and it was delicious as well. Twice baked potato casserole was great, potato salad was mediocre. I can still taste my sandwich in my mind and I am sad I don’t have another one to eat right now as I write this review... I might go eat another one for lunch tomorrow before I leave town to go home...

Amazing nachos

By alwaysfuntravel |

If you’re craving nachos this is a must do! These are the best nachos that I have ever had. They make the queso from scratch then they top it off with lots of shredded brisket and pork.

Sunday nothing to do lunch

By U6693LGpauls |

I found the Slab after I walked out after buying my 1st pair of cowboy boots the shop recommended Slab. Walked in not knowing what to expect but was meet by a very pleasant barmaid who made everything easy. Food was fantastic though the dirty chips where a let down in my imagination as they turned out to be a pack of crisps 😀

Great bbq

By C Nelly |

Delicious. This place is kind of tucked away in a plaza but there’s good parking and an easy way to order. The ribs are the best I’ve had in a while. The mac and cheese was tasty and the nana pudding is excellent! The bbq sauce with mayo is exceptional. The strawberry glaze sauce was amazing and a little spicy but delicious. I’ll be back.

Bbq

By Moonwinks001 |

Had this amazing bbq when they brought their food truck to my work sight. They eventually opened the store front( and stopped bringing the food truck)so we wanted to check it out. Enjoyed the notorious p.i.g. Sandwich on jalapeño cheddar? bun; which comes topped w. a delicious 😋 slaw. Had a side of beans very good.

2nd time around visit

By DFL |

Came here in April with my youngest son and couple local friends and we enjoyed it so this time, visiting Austin with entire family, my oldest son hungered for a good brisket sandwich so went again here since close by to our hotel. Food again was pretty good. My oldest enjoyed his brisket sandwich. My youngest liked his plain chicken sandwich well-enough. My wife had the fully loaded chicken sandwich with potato salad side and I the fully loaded, including jalapeños pulled pork sandwich. My wife and I are not great lovers of this BBQ style of food but we still liked our sandwiches. We enjoyed the sides most: very good potato salad and baked beans! And always like to take home The Slab plastic cup used for drinks; nice size for home use. I think for folks that enjoy this style of food, you will find their food tasty and satisfying. The one thing that baffles me though is, both this time, and last time we ate here, and even before when we ate at another well-known and rated BBQ place on Lamar Blvd, is why the meats are always served lukewarm at best...? They should be hot I think to make the sandwiches more appetizing...

An Austin BBQ Favorite

By drubarlow |

My family and I ate at Slab on Father's Day 2017 and could not have had a better Austin BBQ experience. I had visited once before, but this time my whole crew was with me. My wife "Original O.G." was great and my littles enjoyed an order of brisket nachos. I went with "The Donk," a sandwich topped with a full pound of brisket, sausage, & chicken, chopped pickles/onions, Fritos, and mustard slaw, all on a jalapeño cheddar roll. Definitely my new fave. Oh, and they had a few Dublin Bottling Works sodas on tap. Cream soda for the win!

Great meat- delivered very badly.

By AsiaTr0tter |

Let's just say this- when you walk in the first thing they tell you is that Guy Fieri was here and blah, blah...blah. Best sandwich ever... blah blah. So of course I was excited about this and order the McDowell as recommended. What I received was a nice slab of very good BBQ pork with bones removed... on a bun with sauce.. the meat was very good... but everything else about it was truly pathetic. There were two tiny pickle nubs on the sandwich that in any normal restaurant would have been thrown out. I gave them back to the waiter and she walked away with them. The side of cole slaw was not much more than a tablespoon of what appeared to be a couple days old bottom of the bucket slaw. Yuck. I tasted it and left it. It's actually too bad- the meat was excellent but the entire delivery was so bad. Never again.

HANDS DOWN, BEST BBQ IN AUSTIN!!

Seriously I write reviews all the time and this is a hidden GEM. I love this place the food is amazing and for the low prices you get so much! The Donk, oh the Donk is amazing my wife and I share it because it is a pound of all the meat plus the kitchen sink! Totally recommend checking this place out!!

"Slab" of heaven

Great place to stop for inventive BBQ! Great sauces and amazing meats paired with great sides and toppings to make an awesome meal. Family friendly and great staff.

A little disappointing

By keswalnut1 |

I was disappointed by the menu. There were no fries on the menu and the focus was more on Sandwiches rather than the BBQ.

Dope BBQ with Attitude!

By neumz26 |

Loved this place!!! Slow Low And Bangin' BBQ with hip-hop music theme. I ordered the Notorious P.I.G. and was not disappointed. The homeade sweet tea was on point also. Enjoyed the decor, attitude, and food! Busy spot and lunch; however, the service was outstanding. Seems like a place that the locals would hang out at.

Good Chicken Sandwich

By Chuck C |

We went to Slab BBQ and Beer last night looking for a new Austin BBQ spot to take guests to. We arrived about 6:30 on a hot Austin afternoon looking forward to the great Texas beef brisket we heard about. Slabs has a unique and varied menu that had many choices and combinations. I ordered the classic Texas BBQ 'sammich," sliced Black Angus Brisket topped with pickles, onions and Backyard Red sauce. My girlfriend ordered the Chicken W.A.a slow-smoked natural chicken breast topped with mustard slaw, onions and spicy hot sauce. I suggested they slice both sandwiches so we could sample and compare. The Chicken W.A. was awesome, delicate smoked chicken with a very hot sauce that was fiery delicious. The Black Angus brisket sandwich was underwhelming in brisket size amount, and what was there tasted ok, but was over Half Fat. There was so much fat that we had to disassemble the contents and try to separate the attached fat from the trimmed brisket. My girlfriend gave up and went back to her half chicken sandwich. This was very disappointing, as the BBQ brisket was the main reason for the Austin search to share with out of town guests in a few days. Shame. We might return for the chicken sandwich, but NEVER order our main target search forTexas brisket.

Great BBQ Sandwiches

Went there with the whole family. We had multiple types of their BBQ Sandwiches and I had the Notorious P.I.G. It had pulled port and mustard slaw. I added Jalapenos and sauce and had the cheese and jalpeno bun. I like hot spicey food and that did the trick. Excellent and sauces were all good. Everyone liked theirs as well.

Sandwich barbecue

If you’re hungry and looking for barbecue on a bun this is good place to go. Also lots of different beers on tap. All the meats were good including the brisket and chicken. Sauces on the table were excellent so you could add as much to your dish as you’d like. We had BCBC and nachos and really enjoyed it. Not the best barbecue I’ve had in Texas but it was good.

Embarrassed!!! I Ate The Donk!!!!

By BigHenry911 |

This is Slab - Slow, Low, & Bangin' BBQ... We've been there about four times and every time they did not disappoint. If you want to burn off calories, they have a twerking class next door... I was temoted, but didn't feel like getting arrested!!! Lol! I tend to rate my items per review by a scale of 1 worst to 10 best. Here we go!!!! Their Potato Casserole (7.5) was good... Nothing fancy, but it had a great flavor and texture. Potatoes were above soft... Now their Slab Slider Trio (8) aka Notorious P.I.G.: Pulled Pork topped w/Mustard Coleslaw & Backyard Red (light sweet & tangy sauce); Texas O.G.: Prime Angus Brisket topped w/Pickles, Onions, & Backyard Red; and Chicken W.A.: Smoked Natural Chicken Breast w/Mustard Coleslaw, Onions, Dank White (Mayonnaise based BBQ Sauce), Backyrad Red & Spicy Hot (Garlic Sriracha Sauce). All were distinctive and tasted great! Can't go wrong if you want to try a little bit off their top selling sandwiches. We also had the One Pound Naked St. Louis Style Pork Ribs (8). Those babies were Guuuddd. Girls also had the Dirty's Chips (7.5) Soft Drinks (8) (Now the music builds... "Requiem for a Dream") And the GRAND FINALE!!!!! Now wait for it... I ordered "The Donk" aka The Beast!!!! (9) ONE POUND SANDWICH STACKED W/EVERY SLAB SMOKED MEAT AVAILABLE & TOPPED W/PICKLES, ONIONS, JALAPENOS, QUESO, FRITOS, AND ALL SLAB BBQ SAUCES!!!!! Whoa!!!!! (Music stops w/a Record Scratch) Now why do I call it the Beast?!? Well my sweet little innocent daughters were going around telling everybody for about a week that their daddy ate a donk!!!! Awe HECK NO!!! I've got a reputation to uphold!!!! But for the record... It was GUUUUUUUDDDDDD!!! Let me know if you try it!!!! Big Henry

Just OK, but where's the BEEF?

A friend had been here before and liked it a lot so he wanted to try Slab instead of our suggestion of favorite Stiles Switch. It was a business lunch and he was buying as we are his customer. Slab is in the former Rib King location which they fixed up nicely. It was sort of dark in there, not bright like it used to be which was cool with me. A new bar was added toward the back of the restaurant but since it was lunch we didn't drink. There was a nice crowd and a short line when we entered. A nice guy offered us a menu while we were in line giving me a hint that this wasn't your "traditional" Texas Bar-B-Q joint. You won't find your typical "2 meat plate" here but rather a focus on sandwiches with an Austin flare. We ordered one for a friend who was on his way trying to guess what he might like. They all had clever names. I didn't see too much meat on the menu rather than Pork Ribs that you could order a 1/2 or a full pound of. Our Host ordered a full pound $20 and nothing else for his lunch, except a water. I was curious about their brisket and couldn't find a brisket plate on the menu so I ordered the Brisket Nacho's and a drink. $45 for the three of us. A little pricy but hey, lets face it BBQ is expensive everywhere now... The food arrived almost immediately after I had gotten my self service drink. My opinion is the menu is designed to hide the fact that you are not getting much meat.. My nacho's were a clever combination of chips, BBQ sauce, chopped dill pickles, some sort of white ball park cheese, and a sprinkling of Chopped Brisket (very small pieces and not many of them), and maybe 8-10 slices of Jalapeno's. It sounds gross, but somehow it seemed to work and was kind of tasty. Not tasty enough to ever order it again in this life but not nasty either. Our host went on about how great the Ribs were and they looked great. He said the meat fell off the bone and had a great smoke flavor. By now our final guess arrived to his sandwich and you could tell by the body language he wasn't excited. He picked at it and later said that "there was very little meat, mostly bread, and cole slaw. It's not for everybody but obviously Slab has a following. When I visit a Austin BBQ spot, I want a 2 meat plate with some MEAT! I will have to say, the service was GREAT, everyone extremely friendly and accommodating! There was only one woman in the crowd, almost all men here.

I was working at a branch of my company in Austin. Asked my colleagues where a good BBQ place was nearby. Decided to go on their recommendation and was very satisfied. Drew, an energetic knowledgeable order taker, made some good referrals as to what sliders to have. She had a personable customer service rapport as she welcomed any questions regarding the food or beverages. Will definitely go again if in that area.

Really good pork ribs

By Old_Island_Guy |

Met some friends at Slab BBQ (on their recommendation) and enjoyed the lunch. After considering all of the entrees decided to get 1/2 pound pork ribs. Perfect size for lunch, about 5 ribs, very tasty both with and without sauce. I tried the optional Strawberry Habenero glaze as a dip and it was really good. Also ordered twice baked potato casserole and it was tasty as well. I'd come here again. No long line like some of the BBQ places in Austin... an added advantage.

Makes me want to SLAB my momma

By Kenna |

We drove from Houston just to eat here and hang out with friends for the day. Could not stop talking about the McDowell and Texas Trill. The time we got the banana pudding. I don't think we will ever go to Austin without stopping here. It truly is something special and delicious. It is a unique flavor of BBQ that most chain restaurants are now missing. They even have a white bbq sauce that is delicious.

Great BBQ

I love BBQ. My son took me here when we were visiting him recently. Being I was never here before I didn't know exactly what I wanted. So I got the 3 sandwich sampler. The first one was a BBQ chicken sandwich, second was BBQ brisket sandwich and the last was a BBQ pulled pork sandwich with a great smokey sauce. Each one was better than the previous sandwich. I was in heaven. Loved every bit. Cant wait to go back and have it again.

Average BBQ and good variety of sides

By Iknowtravel2012 |

I found this place on Yelp and decided to go instead of another BBQ joint I was considering because I learned Diners, Drive-Ins and Dives featured them. The restaurant was a little dark for my taste, so I took my meal to go. I ordered the McDowell sandwich (sauce on side), green bean casserole and twice cooked potatoes. The sides were good. I did not get sauce...I guess I was supposed to grab it myself. I ate the ribs as is and without the bun. The ribs were lean, a little on the dry side and lacked natural flavor. Overall, great service, good (not great) BBQ. I really like the variety of sides...that and the nachos is different from what I am accustomed to see at BBQ restaurants.

Good BBQ

Well rated in another app so we tried it. Had their house special St Louis style baby back pork ribs in a habanero-honey glaze I believe. Not spicy if you’re concerned about that. Was good. Full rack seems ample for a normal appetite or can be split for lighter eaters. Really liked their BBQ beans side. Very tasty. Friend had their three meat combo (beef, pork, sausage) which he found to be small in portion for his robust appetite. Atmosphere is ok, has a small outside eating area too. Plenty of free parking. Reasonably priced.

More meat than meets the eye burger

Down near the heart of Austin, the Slab BBQ and Beer provides indoor and outdoor seating. I had The Donk for lunch and it was almost too much for me to eat! Most delicious and at only $10. The also provide military discount.

Ready to Slab it

By Antoine D |

Went there for dinner, during the week, wanted to grab some food fast. We didn't know, but they had a special for that day of the week. We had the ribs and a 2 step sandwich. Sandwich is really good size and amount of food, it was a pleasure to see that. Ribs were good, nothing exceptional but nothing bad either. I wish they had other glazed sauce than the one with strawberry. Really not a fan, but it is my own taste. We were served very fast, which was perfect for us that night. The fact that we had the special on the ribs made it truly worth it.

Best BBQ I have had in awile,,

By 016200 |

Ate here last Thursday for lunch. Being from Georgia BBQ means pork. The pork sandwich was A plus. I don't like Cole slaw on my sandwich so I got it on the side. I am glad I did because the spices on it made it too hot.

Great introduction to Texas BBQ

By Simon S |

I visited for a late lunch on a Monday afternoon while shopping nearby. The server was very helpful in explaining the menu options to me, and I chose to sit inside and make the most of the aircon (though there are tables outside too). I ordered BBQ brisket, chopped, with a slice of pickle and served in bread with small pieces of chili baked into it (I don’t recall the proper name for it), accompanied by a side of potato salad and large glass of German Kölsch lager. Despite being the cheapest meal I ate while visiting Austin, this was my favourite by far. The brisket was superb, amazing sauce and it was served to my table no more than 2 minutes after I sat down. I’m only sorry that I live so far away – if a Slab BBQ opened in my town, I’d go every week. Recommended.

Yum!

Their sandwiches are absolutely delicious! I always get the Notorious P.I.G. just the way they make it with a jalapeño bun. Yum...

Great Brisket!

By Steve D |

This was another place on my list to try. I ordered the Texas O.G. with baked beans and sweet tea. The sandwich was made up of a jalapeno cheddar bun with large, thick slices of tender, moist brisket topped with pickles and onions. Very good! This is a hearty, delicious sandwich. The also put their backyard red BBQ sauce on this sandwich. The sauce is okay. I prefer to have sauce on the side and add it if needed. Fortunately, there wasn't a whole lot of sauce on it so it was okay. This meat is good enough it doesn't need sauce anyway. The baked beans were too sweet and very mushy. I didn't care for them at all and didn't even finish them. They have sweet and unsweet Moonshine Tea so you can't go wrong there. It is nice to see a place in Austin actually serve sweet tea. The service was fast and friendly. The prices are comparable to about every other barbecue place in town. They have a bar, several large screen TV's, and outdoor seating also.

Fall off the bone ribs. So tasty. Wish we had one do these in Columbus, Ohio. Recommend for anyone. We also enjoyed the two sauces on the table.

A Must Go!

One word: Awesome You can close your eyes and pick something from the menu, and you wouldnt be disappointed. We have been here twice and ordered different sandwiches each time; both times the food was delicious. Very cool atmosphere. Great bbq place!

Worth going back

By LFROMTX |

I had eaten food from this restaurant at a catered event, and the beef and chicken were great. So I was looking forward to eating here and getting the same quality. The choices on the menu are primarily sandwiches and I did not want all that bread. Sooo I did the unthinkable and ordered a salad topped with brisket. It was very good, but I will want to try something else next time.
