Drinks all around

Great place for drinks and to come for happy hour. I did not hear here so can't really comment on the food but the place was packed if in the area would like to come back to try it out.

Great Food but not very clean

By nadler |

The atmosphere is fun and bustling and very social. The frozen margarita was one of the best I've ever had! The menu is full of unusual, interesting options. I tried two of the specialty tacos: seared cauliflower and shrimp, both were delicious! The street taco plate with carne asada was also very good. The chips are large and round and not my favorite and the salsa is v spicy so we asked for some pico de gallo instead but our server never brought it. We were seated in the patio area which is fully covered and has tent like walls, it is very pleasant, but the chairs are all torn up and dirty and the menu had sticky salsa inside it when I opened it. There are also lots of dogs at the tables. This is a busy place and reservations are a must. I would go back but with lowered expectations for the service and the cleanliness.

EXCELLENT, Fresh, Unique Mexican

By Brian C |

Excellent Mexican food in Playa Vista!! This is not your usual globby Mexican. This spot serves up super fresh, super tasty food in a cool, wide open setting. Try the carnitas street tacos with spicy slaw and rice. Check it out for sure!!!

Great Everything

I've now been to Sol in Playa Vista twice while in LA on business this last month. Some of the best Mexican food and drinks out there. Go on Taco Tuesdays for happy hour. You won't be disappointed.

Not Your Run of the Mill Mexican Restaurant!

By EllesseB |

My adult son took me here for dinner one evening. I was thoroughly impressed with the food. I've eaten at many Mexican restaurants but this is not your typical Mexican restaurant at all. It was upscale and the food was different. You are started out with baked chips with salsa and some different sauces. Quite enjoyable. We had a roasted corn appetizer that was heavenly. They roast the corn on the cob with spices and then cut the kernels off onto a plate making it easy to eat. I found it to be sweet and delicious. Not spicy but plenty flavorful. I ordered a grilled chicken dish with vegetables and a quinoa salad. I was amazed at the sized of the chicken portion. It consisted of three sizable breast cutlets which I couldn't finish. I highly recommend this restaurant which specializes in all types of margaritas and tequila drinks. Unfortunately, I didn't partake so I couldn't review but they looked really good. The service was good but the waiter was a bit busy and preoccupied.

Tasty, busy, reservations are a must!

By Nichole B |

Very tasty, but some dishes a bit over-wrought. For example, goat cheese enchiladas with salsa verde had overpowering lime flavor--and I love a salsa verde with strong lime. Tortilla chips are dusted in chile powder, which detracts from the delicious mole served with them. Tacos very light, not greasy, and flavorful. Black beans very tasty. TONS of vegetarian and vegan options. House margarita good but nothing to write home about. Definitely need reservations!!!

Delicious dining experience

By LoriHakim |

Great dining experience. We visited late on a Saturday night and we were warmly welcomed by the friendly staff. The food and drinks were delicious. We took advice from the servers recommended dishes, and they didn't disappoint. Highly recommend the sashimi grade Ceviche, salmon tostada and barbacoa. Generous portions too. We left very satisfied. A great place to eat with a lovely vibe too.

Very good

By dm670 |

Very nice restaurant and great atmosphere. Many choices for apps and dinner. Tacos are a favorite. It did take a while for food but the margaritas were great while waiting . Street parking . Would recommend this restaurant if you love Mexican food

Energetic Vibe, Tasty Food

By sobaytravelguy |

The restaurant is located int he new Playa Vista area, very near the cinemas and shops. Street parking is readily available. Friends and I enjoyed our dinner here. The carnitas taco plate was delicious. It is a large and attractive restaurant and has an energetic crowd on a weeknight. I recommend it.

Excellent Mexican Food in Play Vista

By mcorbin560 |

SOL is an excellent Mexican restaurant in Playa Vista. Nestled in the new development of Playa Vista this nicely decorated restaurant has both indoor and outdoor seating. This is a popular restaurant, so reservations are recommended, especially on the weekends. Starting off with the hold crispy tortilla chips with salsa and a creamy bean dip is amazing. I could make a meal of it. They have plenty of dishes to choose from (tacos, burritos, etc) and they have a great bar too. Parking structure is near by and this is a fun place to have lunch or dinner with friends.

Great Brunch!

By Alverstone5 |

Went to Sol for a terrific Mexican Sunday brunch. The food was fresh, the presentation was beautiful, the service was excellent. The French toast and shrimp and crab cakes Benedict were fab. Ready to go back and start working through rest of menu.

Great vibe and food

By lantana |

Enjoyed appetizers and drinks for happy hour; charming Mexican restaurant; great drink choices; would definitely return

Great fish tacos!

By bill f |

Had a casual business dinner with some colleagues here recently. Had a couple beers, some chips with the fresh guacamole (highly recommended) and the fish tacos for dinner. Wait staff was nice, efficient and attentive without being over bearing. Food was excellent, I will come back for sure!

Avoid at all costs

By trvcal |

Disappointing at best. Garbage food, Garbage service. Walked away thinking what a waste of money! Came here with a date. Margaritas were ridiculously sweet, food was cold and service was non existent. I only tipped because I felt bad for the waiter as he seem really busy. We must have waited over 20 minutes for drinks and had to walk up 2 or 3 times to staff to finally put in an order. The food finally came and it was cold, dry and stale. Both left having barely touched the food. What a disastrous night! Never again! What in the world is management doing!

Great New Spot in Playa Vista

By geckobvi |

We were looking for a new spot for lunch while out shopping and SOL was recommended. Excellent food and service along with a good wine list. I had the fish taco with beans and rice, which was fresh and delicious. My wife had the crab corn chowder which was outstanding and plentiful, enough for me to have several healthy tastes. We will be back again. Oh, yes the goat cheese appetizer is a must.. very different and delicious.

ROC Playa VistaCa really rocks

By Grace R |

Restaurant is located in a beautiful mall near LMU. Nice and relaxing environment where movie stars walk among us. We saw Milo O’Shea the star of This is Us. The restaurant offers variety of dim sum and Chinese Asian food. Very tasty food, good service and reasonably priced. We really enjoyed the food. We will surely comeback next time that we are in the area.

Real Mexican food

By BPagan |

Place is small for it’s high demand. Food is really delicious, authentic Mexican food and drinks. Service is not too good, because they are always super busy. Better to make reservations if you want to make sure that you are going to eat here. Going for lunch is a good option.

Very good food and drinks

By Ben K |

Overall it was a great date night. The margaritas are well made. You can tell they use their own sour mix, and not a generic grocery store brand. They give you fresh tortilla crisps when you arrive, with 2 dips. 1 is a salsa, and the other is a black bean spread. Both were great. The tacos were well made and plentiful! I ordered 3, but def only needed 2. My wife thoroughly enjoyed her meal as well. I would def go back and visit this place!

Delicious food in Playa Vista

By Banditsmom707 |

Great Baja style Mexican food. It's popular so make a reservation. Try the house guacamole with mango. Rib eye & short rib tacos delish. Don't forget the margaritas.

Amazing Entrees and Drinks!

By WanderlustSydney123 |

We dined at SOL and had the best experience. The hostess was super sweet and very informative of the menu. They surprised us with the famous Mexican Street Corn and it's a MUST! I had the fish and shrimp taco's and it was phenomenal! If you are in the area, make sure to stop by SOL! It's a beautiful restaurant in a nice, safe area!

Top prices for not the best food

By jerry k |

We decided we must try this new very trendy place it was very crowded which led us to believe it would be great. Servers can make a huge difference in your dining experience..we caught the one with the attitude that acted as if he was doing us a favor to wait on us. Couldn’t get water and took 20 or so minutes to order a drink..the waiter did not like us asking for any deviation of the way food was prepared. Overall, it was very good food at very top prices. The scene is chaotic but very hip. Would we return...doubtful. There are many better Mexican places to eat, you just don’t get the scene...

By sworrels |

My friend described it as "pricey but the food is good". I'm glad our friendship is not defined by our restaurant referrals! Did not like this restaurant at all. Had a hard time choosing a dish that worked for me, same with my husband. I decided to go simple and got the carnitas street tacos and chose the slaw and rice as my sides. It wasn't bad, it just wasn't all that good. My husband had the chicken burrito and he felt the same way. I made reservations but didn't need it, there was plenty of seating. However, it could have been because it was a Sunday evening. My margarita was average but my husband's mango margarita was outstanding. The restaurant is nice and cozy with patio seating. I did not like the slated tables because food spills fall to the ground and can be rather messy. I also observed a server cleaning the tables by having to scrape in-between the slats, I have safety concerns about that. Its a great location surrounded by literally thousands of condos and apartments so there is a huge opportunity for success. The service was above average. I would go back again to try their guacamole and one of their awesome mango margaritas, but it wouldn't be my first choice for great Mexican food.

A fun happy hour stop

By kcslatts |

This was just a quick stop around 5p for some food and drink. Really great and friendly service. A nice and different variety of the food on the menu. Am looking forward to going back for a full sit down meal..

Great service

By EMP77 |

Great service and nice food. It is expensive but playa vista is a fancy neighborhood. We have been here for brunch, lunch and dinner and service is always great.

Loved it!

By KaciAtlanta |

Everything was great! Happy Hour menu has delicious offerings too. Love how they remove the corn from the cob for you if desired. The spicy ceviche was so fresh Dj’s flavorful. The bean dip is not to be missed!

Great Flavors - Not Your Usual Vapid Mexican

By Douglas T |

We were in Playa Vista and a friend took us here. We were expecting a run of the mill Mexican Restaurant, and let's be frank, this is a Southern California mall like restaurant, but with a difference. The service was pretty good, the people nice, and the food was interesting and flavorful. We had a great time. Although beer was involved, this is not one of those places fueled by alcohol. It has really good food. I recommend it.

Baja inspired Mexican

By Doug W |

Baja Mexican relies on fresh fish and you will find a variety of seafood plus your decadent favorites on the several menus available on line (vegan, gluten free, main, fish, etc.) Portions are large on most dishes, including the corn and crab chowder, could have been mains. Guacamole and peel and eat shrimp are first rate. I had the grilled burrito with grilled carne asada and two sides. I could not finish both the soup and the burrito….I like that! Service was excellent, especially for a soft opening. Marco was our waiter and you’d have thought he’d owned the place based on his knowledge of the menu the way he raved about the food. SOL has its own in-house tequila, which was enjoyable as was the house Margarita (which is the way to go) especially for your first visit. The ambiance is pleasant, there is a large indoor/outdoor area, a separate dining room for large groups and I loved the way the chairs slid on the floor making it easy to get in and out of your seat (a small thing for sure but small things can be differentiators). Definitely make reservations. The place is packed and we heard long wait times being quoted as we came in. Located at the base of a residential building in the new Playa Vista residential and shopping area, the intent is that residents need only walk a block or two to avail themselves of all the area has to offer, but if you are driving there, you really have to park in the Whole Foods parking structure and it’s a pain. No valet parking that I saw. We will for sure return.

Excellent Attention From our Wait Staff

By John H |

Ask for Josie's table... She's attentive, cares and on top of her game... This is my second SOL restaurant experience... But Josie's made this SOL our favorite.

An upscale atmosphere

By ru2cold |

Three friends ate here for lunch for the first time. It's a little more upscale looking than most Mexican restaurants, but that seems to go with the area in general. The staff also were a little more formal, although still friendly. There was a weekend brunch menu (Saturday & Sunday) that included drinks specials. I don’t know usual prices here (I'm not from the USA) but overall they seemed reasonable. The chips and two dips were good, as was the BBQ corn they brought for us to share. I had fish tacos with a refreshing salsa. The toppings did overpower the amount of fish but they were still really enjoyable. My friends also enjoyed their meals. It was busy and quite noisy, but we all enjoyed it. I would certainly eat here again.

DELICIOUS!

By JDinLA |

We went here on the recommendation of my adult child who works nearby (although mostly remote these days). It was wonderful. Great wait staff, helpful with the menu and wonderful margaritas. The parking can be tricky, but there is some street availability. Good salsa (spicy for me but my son loved everything!), tortilla chip rounds and food. Def on the flavorful side/spicy but in a good way. The bean dip that came with the initial chip salsa is not to be missed. Weirdly, we were not offered dessert; our waiter just brought the bill and mentioned it as an afterthought, but the dessert that passed our table prior looked delicious. Sitting outside was a bonus...a perfect night to do so. Lots of little kids there and the volume was high, although not so much outside. I will def be back!

OK, Not Great, Tacos

By Max G |

Sol offers OK, not great, designer tacos at high prices. We tried the CDMX, Bufalada, Ribeye, and Short Rib tacos. None of them were impressive. The staff was very friendly, and our order was ready for pickup when promised.

What a Happening Place!

By Peg H |

We went on a Friday night so of course there was a wait! But it was worth it. Waited in the bar area, with margaritas and chips and salsa....which were both delicious. Very big, busy bar, young professional crowd, noisy, fun, but we loved every minute. Our party of six was eventually seated in a side room, which was much quieter. The service was superb and the recommendations and explanations were awesome. Everyone loved their choices. The corn appetizer is spicy good, as is the guacamole. My two different fancy shrimp tacos were so good. There are so many choices its hard to pick, so I guess we will have to go back.

One of my favorites because of the atmosphere, service, food, and Happy Hour.

By Gary F |

This great restaurant is located in Playa Vista. I love the atmosphere because of the low lights and the people running the Sol. The Guacamole is the best and they give you a lot. Before your food comes they bring you a lot of large crispy Taco shells to dip into their Bean dip and another dip. The Waiters and Waitresses are nice, friendly and efficient. The food is outstanding and the serving size is generous. The Happy Hour is from 3-6 (check online for days) There is only street parking.

Oh my gosh!

By Sanibel84 |

This was a unique Mexican restaurant experience for us. In a world of the same ol Mexican, this place raised the bar immensely. Carnitas tacos, fish taco (yellow fin) and vampire taco with the sweet corn was our fare. Of course very delicious drinks. Mine was a blackberry ginger margarita. Our waiter, Gerry, was extremely helpful with the menu and kept a smile throughout. Everything was punctual and you would be lucky to get him as your server. The live music was also top notch. Aragorn & Olivia. Love their talent.

Dinner

By LT1494 |

Visiting my family for a week and went out to dinner. Had the shrimp quesadillas and the froze’ margarita. Also try the grill sweet corn as an appetizer. Others in our party had the Canarditas Duck, Street Tacos Chicken, and the grilled chicken Quesadillas. Everyone enjoyed their meals.

Great place to eat in Playa Vista

By poidawg |

Great food and drinks, excellent, friendly service (Michael was awesome!) Chips and guac/salsa were excellent. Margaritas were good, kids enjoyed their mock-a-ritas!

It Changed For The Worse

By I just sorta know |

Just what happened to this restaurant I don’t know when it opened it was bustling and the food was new and great now it is empty and sad and the food is not good and it is still very expensive. Aside from this the wait staff bus people and reception are very nice and hard working but it does not make up for the terrible food

Great Neighborhood restaurant

By Michelle M |

Went here while on Sping Break in LA and met family living in Playa Vista here. The food was wonderfull (my daughter wants the recipe for the black bean dip!!) and the service was great. Tuesdays are extra busy because of a Street Taco special they run, but it is worth the wait!

Baja Mexican Style= Mexican Fusion Food

By lizd3 |

Great atmosphere and happening restaurant. The cocktails are superb. I had a margarita with cucumber and jalapeño which was perfection! My husband had a frozen margarita with a corona beer which he liked. He also had a huge bowl of tortilla soup. Tasty soup with a thin broth but it was delicious. I ate the duck taco which I liked except before making the taco I had to remove the duck meat from the bone. My daughter ordered a plain cheese quesadilla but it came decorated with spicy sauce. Next time we will have to remember no sauce for her. Beware of the free chips they are delicious and you will over eat them especially with the guacamole which was awesome!

Excellant Mexican for International travelers

By wheelernodealer |

Took a number of Chinese guests to try this style of Mexican food...lots of variety. Parking difficult but area is upscale. Pricing on the high side but the value and quality seemed there and my forein guests enjoyed the experience.

It was just ok.

By berniek1949 |

Saw some pretty good reviews about this restaurant so we decided to try it out for dinner. They were pretty busy on a Sunday night. Decided to sit at the bar and order food there. Staff and bartenders were very friendly and helpful in getting our orders. They first gave us chips and salsa. Two different salsas. One was the traditional salsa given at most Mexican restaurants, but the other was a black bean warm and blended salsa that was very good. Unfortunately, it was the only really good dish we ate. The carnitas had no flavor, not very tender and lots of fat on the meat. The Tacos were just ok. Rice and beans were nothing special. There are many excellent Mexican restaurants in the South Bay. This is not one of them. The food is just ok. The prices are are a little high and the parking is an issue. I will not go out of my way to go back to this place.

Delicious Upscale Mexican Food...

By Kevin W |

The salsa and beans they bring at the beginning are delicious. We had the Corn as an appetizer. It will not disappoint. The corn was charred perfectly and the flavors were amazing. I had the Filet Taco and the Carne Asada Taco. While the Filet Taco cost more, I highly recommend getting at least one since you can get it ala carte.

Busy busy but worth it

By Budmanri |

Wow, happening place .James waited on us at the bar ,top notch. We missed happy hour but try to go there for it. Many places were slow but not this place .Had a filet very good. Many Margaritas were being sold .

Good Mexican Menu

By D_W_10017 |

SOL offers a good selection of Mexican dishes in the Playa Vista area which is a great area to walk around in and relax.

The food does not do the decor justice!

By Dar |

Decided to give it a try finally, seeing that it was in walking distance of my home. I took a friend to lunch and we decided try this place out. We thought we beat the lunch tech crowd. So we would get good service. We received amazing service which made up for the dull food. We both had the tacos one fish one shrimp. The chips served before the meal with the salsa yummmy! The tacos came, presentation 6 on a scale of 1 to10 and the taste a strong 6. It was ok. $7 dollars for one small taco is fine if the flavors are in place. The sides are sad. This was not worth that asking price. But all in all for under $40 for two including two beers one could do worse.

The “place” to be in PV

By OCDane |

This is more or less the only real bar place in Playa Vista. It is always super busy. Reservation needed. Service is super good and it is a great place to go for drinks.

Fresh mexican food, great service and excellent value

By ianbeavis |

This is a relatively new restaurant in a very fast growing area. The restaurant has a nice feel with indoor and patio seating. The menu has something for everyone. Everything appears to be made on site. We had several appetizers, all of which were fresh, flavourful and well presented. The same with the main courses as well. The drinks list is extensive. Our server was first rate and on the ball. The noise level is a bit high for my taste but the restaurant was quite crowded. I work in the area and will definitely be back

Excellent Service, Ambiance, and Calamari

By CharlesR |

Excellent Service and Ambiance. I had reservations about the price of their calamari (an item that I critique on each restaurant's menu), but the quantity and quality made it well worth the value. I will visit SOL again, starting with the Calamari!

Located in Beautiful Playa Vista - Nice Environment - Good Service - Good Food

By Gary F |

I have been here for Lunch and Dinner, always good. They start you with Chips and a great Bean Dip instead of Bread. No parking, except on the street (may have to walk a block or so). I have the Salmon over Quinoa Salad. They give you a lot and it is delicious and on the side are home made chips (best chips by far I have ever tasted). Everyone who works there is nice and friendly and professional.

Grilled sweetcorn and cocktails

By Fiona Beverly |

Whenever I'm in this neighborhood restaurant I feel like I'm on vacation. The bar area is classy and overlooks a small park with trees and the restaurant interior is high spec and clean. I would recommend their grilled sweet corn and their coconut calamari.

Happy Birthday

By ManhattanAdwoman |

Our French brother-in-law chose this place for his 50th because he loves their interesting flavor combos. Shrimp vampiro- yum. Grilled burritos. Amazing margaritas. Blondie ala mode is memorable.

Great choice

By Asgard_von_Skopje |

Sol is a Mexican restaurant and bar, with a great variety of dishes! The location is modern and offers a restaurant- and an outdoor-area, as well as a bar. The food was great and as well the service was very good! The restaurant was recommended by locals and this obviously means a lot already. I had enchiladas with vegetables and steak and I can admit, it was amongst the best mexican-restaurant-dishes I ever had! From a price/value-ratio, I consider the offered as “fair”!

Great ambience and food

By Debbie D |

Great service they validate the Live music was the cherry on top loved their Fresh roasted corn and gotta try their sweet potato tacos!! Taco Tuesday and margaritas done right expect a wait but good things in life are worth waiting for!

Used to be amazing, unfortunately I can't recommend it anymore

By Randall H |

I used to eat and drink at Sol almost daily for years. The food, drinks, and staff have taken a nose dive in the last 2.5 years. The chicken tastes like mystery meat. The drinks are rushed and poorly made whenever there's a rush of people. Sunday brunch food has massively dropped in quality. Silverware and napkins are frequently dirty. Service is inconsistent and a huge influx of new people has created chaos. This place used to be consistent and dependable, but inflexible bureaucratic nonsense imposed by the parent company has removed most of the charm. I've often had better service at Taco Bell than I have at Sol. I don't blame the bartenders or the staff. I blame an out of touch management company looking to eek out every dollar at the expense of the brand. I recommend going down the street to Bull and Butterfly, Jolliet, Hopdoddy, or Gulp.

Great Mexican food near LAX

By Amy H |

Had just flown in and was looking for dinner close by. Saw this place recommended on open table. Very fresh tasty food, great drinks, good service, nice location. Highly recommend strawberry basil martini even though I don't honk of that as traditionally Mexican. At least 25 brands of tequila. Overall a winner, would recommend-would like to give 4 1/2 stars. . Just a little pricey. But would go back especially if coming into LAX.

Loud, happening but overpriced.

By CelticGirlLA |

This is a new to LA and Playa Vista restaurant. I've never been to the one in Newport so i can't speak to the differences between them. It's new so quite crowded and hard to get a table on a weekend. First, you notice how loud it is. By the time they put the salsas and their take on chips on the table and you start to ask your table mates across you something and you can't hear them, you realize it's going to be a long dinner! They start with black bean and a tomatillo salsa. Both are loaded with garlic. You come to find out almost every dish on the menu is loaded with garlic, all the fish dishes, the rice, the sides, the sauces, so if you can't handle garlic, this is not the place for you! Our server was energetic but by the time our food was ordered we didn't seem him much it was quite packed and he was slammed. Our empty plates stayed on our table about twenty minutes after we were all finished and multiple employees just walked by and didn't help out. The cocktails are delicious and the salads were good. My companions loved the shrimp tacos and spicy chicken tacos. I had lobster tails but they were served without a sharp enough knife to cut them into bite size pieces and no server in sight... The rest was bland and very overpriced. I wouldn't eat there again at night but may try a salad during lunch. My guest had an enormous headache after the long meal due to the noise so our treat for dinner became her going home for aspirin. I would suggest this place for a cocktail, but between the poor service, garlic laden food in every dish, and high prices, there are many other superior choices in LA with excellent food, service and choices, in this price point.

Good mexican but not great

By copperbottom |

Big restaurant. Service mixed affair and cN get noisy. Food is tasty but did't amaze and for the price, should be that little bit better. Salads are very average but some tasty tacos and appetizers. Been twice and will return. More 3.5 than a 4

Has been good, but not today

By MrCrispOneDollarBill |

Have had great food here before, but today the ribeye taco was literally soaked in olive oil (dripping) and it seems they left the tequila out of my drink. Others in our party were satisfied with their meals. Generally didn't live up to previous visits.

Delicious Fresh seafood

By ClaireVip |

Our son and daughter in law recommended this restaurant and we were pleasantly impressed with the quality and taste. I ordered the shrimp taco and it was excellent although I thought the serving could have been larger - two tacos rather than just one. Nevertheless it was very delicious! I would definitely return when visiting again.

Great Mexican Restaurant

By gregoryp738 |

I recently visited this restaurant and was greatly pleased. It's located near LMU in an upscale location in the Plays Vista area of Los Angeles. Very easy to get to and good parking. Excellent selection of Mexican style food and seafood. Nice atmosphere to relax and have a great meal. Prices are reasonable. This is an up scale restaurant that anyone would truly enjoy!

A fine restaurant in Playa Vista

By kuldip s |

A great fancy place in Playa Vista. Great Margarita. Appetizer of Calamari was really out of world. Fish tacos were best. And Shrimp tacos were good. Only few dishes. Tacos and Burrittos. Good happy hr.

Excellent margaritas!

By April Jean |

Ate here after I flew in and I definitely liked the atmosphere of the place. Service was good and the street tacos I had were pretty good as well. What I loved the most was their margaritas. We happened to come in during happy hour and sometimes the quality of the alcohol is not that great. Not here! I loved how smooth and tasty they were. They did not have that pre-mixed taste you get from some places. I will definitely be back to sample more of their menus and most definitely for the margaritas!

Fun!

By BnRadventures2015 |

Fun night! The staff was very attentive to our needs. The food was very good especially the short ribs and the carnitas (but the guacamole was a little underwhelming). Great atmosphere for a night out w friends. We will be back!

Good ambiance, good food

By iris B |

Went for lunch and it was crowded so reservations are recommended. Ordered the shrimp appetizer and it was delicious. We shared the main dish of lobster and shrimp enchiladas which were really large and tasty. The sides are not big but it is definitely a dish for sharing unless you are a big eater. There is convenient parking either on the street or in the garage. If you park in the garage get a validation from the restaurant and your parking is free for two hours.

Def will go there again!

By KomalShahKapoor |

Lovely ambience and amazing drinks! Must-try the tequila :) even guac was pretty good. Took my 6-year old with me, and we found something for her too. Some of their dishes were really oily, I stuck to a salad and it was fine. This was an all vegetarian table but a quick glance at the menu told us that meat was pricey.

Great restaurant in Playa Vista!

By MicheleBOnel |

Nice to have a restaurant in the neighborhood with good food and cocktails. Beautiful location that has indoor and outdoor seating. Sol also has a great selection of Tequilas. Can't wait until they start Taco Tuesday's.

Hot & Popular Mexican in a Growing Area

By revrpb619 |

SOL is located in a rapidly growing section of Playa Vista; near LAX, local colleges, the Marina, the Sony complex, and a whole lot of the old studio sites. The food here is very good, with a wide assortment of offerings and temperatures; from mild to picante. We had such a diverse mix of dishes at the table, it is hard to remember it all, but... The tortilla soup was tasty. My dish was the duck tacos (everything comes to the table and you build your own, a nice touch and different.). A good selection of beers, both Mexican and domestic, and wine and liquors. Street parking is hit or miss, the parking garage one block away is expensive but SOL validates your ticket; we spent 3 hours and paid a buck. The staff and servers are great. We were catching up with old friends and conversation was a chore, this place is loud, so be prepared to lean in close or yell all night. Worth the visit.

Amazing Healthy Mexican Food

By Sally B |

I just tried this place and it is amazing. I had the chicken street tacos and they come with quinoa salad and red rice. Everything was outstanding and I definitely am coming back. It was nice to not have every single dish smothered in cheese. The service was good and even though it was busy we were seated very quickly.

Calamari & Margaritas

By LYNNE A |

while the bartenders could be abit more attentive, they make great cocktails. The calamari is not the traditional pieces. It is like a tender steak. Delicious.

Very Good Mexican Fare - Served With Flare

By Robert W |

SOL does an excellent job of taking Mexican cuisine up several notches. Right from the start, with the salsa for the tortilla chips, you realize you are in an establishment that wants you to expand your notion of Mexican dining. We had the Street Tacos, the Spanish Octopus Stew and the Ceviche Sol and each dish was a treat. We would also recommend the Naked Guacamole. And there are several margaritas worth noting, including the Watermelon Margarita and the Cucumber Margarita. Our server was attentive and cheerful - all in all, this is a place worth a visit.

So good we went back 48 hrs later!

By CTPreview |

So good we went back 48 hours later! Recommended by friends who live nearby, the food is wonderful and yet not expensive. The Margaritas are all tremendous, the House is very good - we took a bottle to go - and the more exotic Mango one was outstanding. The tacos are each small but 2, maybe 3 is all you’ll need. Dessert was tasty. Outdoor seating, with good social distancing, dogs allowed, waiters all very pleasant yet busy. Truly great find. And so we went back two days later. It was even better. Lastly if you like coconut and Calamari, then you MUST get their starter. It is the BEST ever.

Great Baja Mexican menu

I really liked the food at this new restaurant. Our dinner started with tostada style chips served with a very tasty salsa and a bean dip. The waiter also brought a hot sauce, lime wedges, and sea salt to add to any menu item. I ordered a shrimp taco that was perfect. The shrimp were crunchy and the salad was cool with a delicious dressing. I would definitely order it again. My husband really liked the chicken burrito. The service was excellent and our dog was allowed on the patio. My only negative comment is that the noise level was very high. It was difficult to have a conversation.

I Am Shocked SOL Restaurant Has Such High Ratings

By Outofdodge_10 |

I made a reservation for three at SOL Mexican Restaurant on OpenTable. My friends arrived first and after checking the very rude hostess, I joined my friends. The hostess, by the way, never recorded my having been there and I had to call OpenTable with my receipt in hand to receive credit. Hassle. Moving on, the waiter was extremely rude, as well and completely non-attentive to our table. When he did show up, we were rushed and he was visibly anxious despite our having ordered immediately. The corn app was great, but nothing else was. Very disappointing. Oh, and we were there for at least an hour before he took our order. Never again.

Get the Guac

Sol was definitely A popular place with locals. We had a reservation, but the hostess confused our group with another group and gave our table away. They did manage to find a seating by our reservation time. The service was not very good. It took a long time for our drinks and our food to come out. The waiter was a little clumsy, dropping one of our drinks and crashing it to the floor, and later spilling something on the table. The guacamole was fabulous! If I were to return, and I probably won’t, it would just be to have guacamole and a beer. The rest of the food was mediocre. This is one of the favorite restaurants of our family member who made the reservation. She said that our experience was not at all typical of the experiences she had there previously. With so many places to eat in Los Angeles, this would not be my first choice and I don’t expect to return.

So good!

Four of us went for dinner on a Sunday night. We made a reservation and we needed it. Lots of folks waiting for a table. We had cocktails, salads and tacos. All delicious. The star of the show was the grilled corn -- you can watch the grill in action behind some plexiglass. So flavorful and your server will cut it off the cob for you. Highly recommend!

Great experience for a large group with small children

The server (Josie) was wonderful and really good with our large disorganized group. the food was great and the kids finished their meals!! The ceviche is fresh and spicy, if you request it that way. And, if you're not driving, the margaritas are really tasty. A wonderful place to eat in lovely Playa Vista.

Very Good and Fresh Mexican Food

By IndyGoldie60 |

We went with our family for lunch and were seated quickly and efficiently, even though we were a fairly large group. The service was excellent, thanks to our server, Mike, and we enjoyed talking and eating. They specialize in 'street tacos' and I would highly recommend trying them. I had the carnitas tacos and they were really tasty. Good food and good times...very enjoyable.

Good break from work

Met friends for dinner and drinks. The chips were delicious with the black bean dip and mango margarita was delish. My selection of Chile Verde was real nice and good portion. Always have a good meal here

This is a great place for Mexican food. What a find. We loved their street tacos, elote, and delicious margaritas. You can definitely taste the quality of the food and the savory ingredients. Definitely worth the time to visit them.
