Excellent steak, service and ambience!

By Anton V |

Visited an STK in Atlanta and was really impressed, so decided to give San Diego a go. We weren't disappointed! The restaurant ambience was superb - a really good atmosphere. We ordered 6oz fillet steaks with sides. Both were cooked to perfection and the quality was excellent. It was my birthday but I don't like a lot of fuss. My wife asked them to do something special but not make a massive fuss. They decorated a dessert plate and very quietly wished me happy birthday - classy and very much appreciated! We ordered an insane dessert - wrapped in candy floss which they set on fire! A real crowd-pleaser but I'm still trying to get over the sugar! Service was excellent and we will definitely visit an STK in the future Highly recommended!

Keep thinking about that steak!

By Sicco Brugman |

This is a modern rather loud restaurant. Friendly staff and good menu. I had the A5 Wagyu steak which is large, but most of all delicious. Just thinking of it makes me want to go back again! And than there was plenty of seafood as well!

Beyond excellent. So worth it.

Five stars all around. Anna our server was superb at every moment. Larry the manager checked on us a couple of times and could not have been nicer. The ambience is high end, yet laid back. We were seated at table for two near the windows but also near the entrance. For dinner we had the prix frixe (weekdays only) and, wow. My sea bass was possibly the best I’ve ever had. The sear on the skin, the taste and flaky tender meat. Gosh. Just magnificent. My dining partners’ filet was amazing. A perfect medium. The sides were superb, the appetizers and desert were also perfection. Prices seem high at first glance and it’s very easy to spend $100 or more per person. That said, it is worth it. It’s as near perfect as it gets.

Great drinks, friendly staff

By Julia S |

We just had drinks at the bar, they have a great selection, long list of good Californian wines. Very friendly staff. Recommended.

Disappointing

By Anda C |

Should have gone to Cowboy Star. Arrived on time. Was seated a solid 1.5 hrs after our reservation time. The food was mediocre. Steak was ok. Lobster was rubbery. Will not be returning.

Great Birthday Party Celebration Restaurant

By CHATTravels |

Celebrated my partner's big birthday here along with our family, a total of 8 of us and we had a blast! Everything just worked out perfectly! The food was awesome! That tomahawk was amazing and just perfectly cooked. Our waiter was so cool and amazing ( I'm very sorry I forgot his name). All of his food suggestions were on point! He let us drink our bottle of champagne given us by Hyatt in our suite in recognition of my partner's birthday. He let us take our photos in front of the STK instagrammable signage. The ambiance was nice and very modern as with any other STK. Overall, it was great! We had the best time and celebration!

Average at a price!

By LulasTravels |

I was excited to hear STK had now opened in San Diego as I'd been to the one in Chelsea NYC a few years back and loved it. This was however a very different experience. Firstly we were sat at a huge table ... not exactly romantic ... the food was very expensive and not that good. The sprouts were covered in some sweet jam which meant you couldn't taste them and the tato tots were overly salty ... and the steak chewy ... not impressed. Would not return. It's pretentious. I'm being generous with my score of 3/5 ...

You will be rushed

By Sean F |

STK offers outstanding food, service, drinks and decor. However, since the COVID restrictions have lifted they seem to be most concerned with making as much money as they can even if it is at the cost of the guest experience by cramming in as many people as they can each night. Upon arriving you are told you only have 90 minutes to eat. They even place an obnoxious piece of paper on the table telling you what time you are to be done. Naturally, this makes anyone feel completely rushed. Moreover, for the prices this place charges they really have a lot of nerve rushing anyone. Dinner for 4 will easily cost you over 400 and while it's good, it isn't that good. Furthermore, to get in and out in 90 minutes the kitchen and staff must be impeccable with their steps of service and timing. Things happen in restaurants. Meals go long, the bar gets backed up, etc. In short, there is no way any restaurant can time things perfectly every time.....this is a problem as the clock is ticking. San Diego has many great steakhouses that offer food just as god, if not better than STK and they wont rush you. Until this place starts to focus on customer service again and not on cramming in as many as possible tomato up for lost time and money I would avoid STK completely.

Steak Dinner at STK

By SDEntrepreneur |

Been wanting to check out STK since they recently opened in Gaslamp. We were greated by Vivian upon entering and they had a perfect table for us. We had party of 4 and we all ordered Filet Mignon and loved it. They was also a DJ playing some cool lounge/house music in the background. Great vibe and beautiful people. I highly recommend this place.

Just ok for the price.

By EuropeCosmicTravel |

We went to STK at the start of restaurant week because I’m a Padres fan and when asked their favorite steak place, a number of them mentioned STK. I don’t know if it was because of restaurant week, the time of day or what, but the food was average and while the server was sweet, the place was empty but service was slow. I had the filet and my Dad the skirt steak and both were cooked fine but terribly under seasoned. The bread with blue cheese was yummy but too salty for my dad. The Parmesan potatoes again needed a little extra salt and I’m not a salt person. The apple crisp was all biscuit and hardly any apple and the cheesecake was clearly not made in house. I had a strawberry shortcake martini that was the highlight of the night. Still on the hunt for a place that rivals Born and Raised or even Island Prime is better. Guess I won’t be taking food recommendations from my favorite team anymore…

Great vibe, food and experience

By Curtis K |

Always great food, great service and atmosphere. We celebrated my wife’s birthday, the staff was attentive. The manager came over to say hi which was great to see since the place was busy. I’ve been to most STK’s and this one was one of my top.

Fabulous food!

By Carole M |

We ate ate STK last night and had a great meal. The steak was cooked to perfection. So good! Their mac and cheese is to die for. The dessert was even better than it looked. I wish we had another night her so we could go back!

Trendy steak dinner

By UHcougarBdaygirl |

Stk service is great in a prime location adjacent to Andaz in historic Gas Lamp. Ambience was nice. We went on a night when they had a live dj. Sharable side dishes and appetizers. Highlight of dinner was perfectly cooked steak and lamb. Attire was pretty casual when we went on a Tuesday but I would think during the week and peak days it would be expected to be smart/trendy.

Not cool

By fetsem7 |

A group of us visited to celebrate a birthday. I ordered a specific brand of alcohol, asked for sure if they had it, was told they did. Later in the night I walked over to the bar and asked if they carried the brand. I was told that they do, but didn’t have any at the moment. Seriously? I have NO idea what I was served all night. I made sure that both the waiter and floor manager knew what had happened. No one cared or did a thing. I find out from my husband the next morning that we were charged the premium brand we had not been served the night before. Order you drinks AT THE BAR. If not you might be served moonshine they being from home for all you know. Will NOT be back.

The worst restaurant I never ate at

By trippy l |

I say I never ate there because literally even though I sat through an entire dinner I didn't eat a thing. This is up there with my review of French Laundry except this night was far cheaper. Started with the fact the place was empty except for one couple out on a date and a mom and her very young daughter. We (a party of 4) was seated in the booth at the DJ's station. It is a ghost town but we are seated up front at the DJ? So I order the baby gems salad , the tuna tartare and the tater tots because it was made clear that my food allergies would not be able to be accommodated. The baby gems were 5 whole romaine lettuce leaves, not baby lettuces which I have always had when that is on the menu. The tartare looked like vomit. I immediately sent it away. Oh and they neglected to bring the taro chips that were supposed to come out. Not that it would have mattered. So starving, I am stoked for the tots. Nope, they are not real tots rather they are stuffed with cheese which I am allergic to, It would have been nice to eat the bread but it was what appeared to be egg bread (allergic to eggs) and they melted blue cheese all over it. Even if I could have eaten it, I would not have. My son and husband both agreed for the price the steak was mediocre and somewhat gristly. Both much prefer Cowboy Star, Ruth's Chris or Morton's. The maitre'd came out and was a little defensive. He took my food off the bill, as I would have expected since it was not touched, and did comp the table desert (which I could not eat as I'm allergic to dairy). However, his came across as taking my response to their food as somewhat personal which was not appreciated under the circumstances. To their credit, they had a nice wine list with reasonably priced wine. My New Years resolution was to go to a new restaurant once a month. This was the first new restaurant. I certainly hope the next 11+ far surpass STK.

Very good cuts of meat

By Santiago Martínez |

Very good selection of cuts and the Tomahawk I ate was the best thing of the experience. Small wagyu burgers left a bit to be desired but overall all well.

Premium STK w/ DJ Beats

By garciaderek |

I've been wanting to dine at an STK for quite some time. I had the chance this week while in San Diego. My collegues and I had dinner on Wednesday night. The dining room was surprisingly empty. I was a little alarmed by the lack of patronage. Turns out, I had nothing to worry about. All three of us had perfectly cooked filets. The steaks were very good, but the sides (Brussell Sprouts / Grits) and bread were the standouts. Each was exceptional. The bar was hopping and music was playing. We enjoyed our dinner, but the atmosphere may have been detracting the business dinner crowd. No matter, we weren't disappointed with the food and the service was excellent.

take your wallet out sides are very small and food is very expensive.

By kantbyluv |

We were a group of 12 and we were able to get seated quickly without a reservation. The menu is very pricey almost like being in South beach Miami without the view. The sides are NOT shareable and at $14 each should be bigger. We did share the sides like spoon of Mac and cheese, a spoon of corn casserole, one asparagus (this was the only decent sized side) the corn casserole was in a small cast iron type double (like one used for onion soup). I ordered a cowgirl ribeye$72 it was cooked to the correct temperature and had it not been so large then I still would have been hungry after the small sides. The group ordered oysters (I don't eat them) but they said they were delicious. Had people not eaten these and the bread 8 think we would have needed more than the 5 sides we got. It seemed like waited was happy to have a large group on a Monday and recommended the second priciest steak on the menu and to order 3-5 picked sides and to double or triple that. The most expensive steak with a price listed was $250. Our bill was $1300 and only two bottles of decent wine . I think there are better options in San Diego

High end prices - food doesn't measure up and service is unimpressive

By J. Hueser |

High end prices but not high end service. I have been wanting to try an STK restaurant for awhile, and our family tradition of a night out at a fancy steakhouse when on vacation provided the opportunity. Unfortunately, it was more disappointing than not. We were seated at the worst table in the house by a rather brusque hostess (I kind of got the impression it was because we had children with us). Our view was of the back of the hostesses at the stand, some cleaning solution, and a table where servers staged silverware. Our server asked us whether we wanted sparkling or still water (we asked for still) which he then didn't bring until we asked for it a second time. Refills were a bit slow but not ridiculously so. The bread didn't come until the same time as the steaks. The steaks were good. Not amazing. Good. Mine was closer to medium than the medium rare I ordered but flavors were good and the meat was of good quality. However, what really ruined the experience was a staff member who referred to my son (who admittedly had run in the restaurant because he had to go to the bathroom "bad bad") as a "little motherf@#$er." He obviously didn't realize my husband was trailing behind my son and could hear him. I find it incredibly inappropriate to speak that way about your customers, particularly while out in the dining room area where they can (and did) overhear. Long story short - not worth the money (the food was good but not exceptional) and definitely not the high end service I would expect for the price.

Loud

By torch28 |

Definitely a place for a younger crowd, extremely loud environment. Good steaks, but not for conversation during a meal

Worst Dining Experience Ever

By LoreneSD |

We sat down to what we thought would be a nice and quiet Thanksgiving dinner. it was not. Shortly after we were seated, a party of 5 was seated next to us. They were in their 20s and immediately started dropping the F bomb in every other sentence with no care in the world to control their volume. It was one male and 4 females and the guy started talking about sniffing blow off of a stripper's stomach. My 14 year old heard it all. My daughter politely confronted them after 30 minutes and said they could say whatever they wanted, just keep it down. That did not go well. My daughter then went to the bathroom and complained to our server away from the table who said the manager was going out to their table because someone else had complained. I then overheard them accusing us of creating the problem and I then intervened. Enough was enough. The manager absolutely failed in handling the situation. He made us feel like we were the problem. I told them that all we could hear from their table was the F word, the guy's story about the stripper and how one girl wanted to F a celebrity. They overheard it and thought it was funny. The manager came back and said they offered to pay our bill ($400) but I refused because that would simply allow them to buy off the people they offended and it would allow the restaurant to excuse their lack of management. They started complaining to the manager they had more money to spend, etc., etc. It was just insulting to everyone around. We paid our bill and left with no more comment from the horrible manager. Regarding the food, it was ok. Both my daughter and I had the surf and turf. The lobster was good, but the steak was not cooked correctly. I felt mine was too salty, which says a lot. I thought our server was great at first (he made a great wine recommendation), but disappeared when the issues with the neighboring table came up. Finally, we saw a large amount of people waiting for take-out orders. I asked the server about it and he said that the restaurant over committed. There were people waiting for their orders longer than it took for us to eat our dinner.

Very quick service and great recommendations from the server

By Kimberly C |

We were visiting San Diego for a couple of days. We didn't have dinner plans or reservations. We found STK as we were taking a walk. We were able to get a table right away. Our server, Jordyn, was fantastic. She walked us through the menu and made some great suggestions. I didn't want a cocktail. She suggested a mocktail that was refreshing and delicious. My Chilean Sea Bass and my husband's steak were perfect. I would recommend visiting here anytime you are in downtown San Diego.

Stay Away From This Poor Service & Overpriced STK San Diego

By Sharpone8 |

This STK San Diego location is a total mess. Don't go here unless you want to deal with incompetent employees that don't care. We had a reservation at 9:15pm for our anniversary and they screwed it up bad. We called them beforehand to ask how’s parking and they lied to us and said you can simply park at the Andaz Hotel valet. Which is a total lie! When we got there the Ace valet at the Andaz Hotel tells us no STK parking allowed. We said where do we park? He said there is no parking tonight anywhere we are super busy.sorry. Nobody at STK can help us. Even the rude supervisor Riley at their call center (619) 354-5988 hung up on us when we were voicing our complaints. STK CEO EMANUEL "MANNY" HILARIO really needs to clean house and fire the rude incompetent employees at the STK call center who are supposed to help customers not hang up on them. We have been to many other STK's and have never been treated so rudely. STK should have a much better plan for parking at their San Diego location for their customers but they either incompetent or they don't care. We don't know if General Manager Jason still works at this location. Stay away from this one and save $500+ on overpriced food and crappy service. If you want superior service and better food go to Mastro's Steakhouse. They know how to treat their customers with respect.

Great Happy Hour

By Stella N |

Delicious food and great service. Happy Hour prices are very reasonable. The drinks are really good. Raphael was an exceptional server, he was very professional and attentive.

Good, But STK Also Misses the Mark

By CLEWOOD |

I will compare STK to a recent visit to a Morton’s and Gibsons in Chicago. STK is more upbeat, but the separate room dynamic is annoying; and if you’re not in the main room, the experience is lessened. The wait staff is good at STK, but at the beginning of our visit, the team did not feel coordinated. Cocktails and kids drinks took too long and didn’t come as cold as compared to the other locations. The team did get more cohesive as the evening progressed. The apps are similar at STK to the other steakhouses, but pricier. The steaks are best at Gibsons with STK tied with Morton’s, albeit the expensive butter adds are a nice touch at STK. The steaks are pricier at STK. We liked the apps better at STK. Gibsons has the best breadth and markup to retail on wine, then Morton’s and finally STK, which marked up low to mid end wine way, way too much. Plus I was disappointed that my first glass of The Prisoner tasted old and needed to be replaced. It was a good dinner, but for a similar experience at a better value, I’d visit Morton’s.

Melt in your mouth beef! Jordan was the best server ever!

By devinscott5 |

This was my first, but definitely not my last, experience at STK Steakhouse. The food was out of this world. The Japanese Wagyu beef with truffle butter is a must. The best part of our meal was our fantastic server, Jordan. She was not only extremely knowledge and helpful at intuitive at assist us with what we wanted but she is a pure delight. She has the best personally...witty and funny at in one. Highly recommend requesting her if this is an option at this location.

Jordan rocked it!!

By cannonater |

I must say that reviews must be taken with a grain of salt…. Check the reviewer….We had an amazing meal and experience. Yes it’s on the high end of economical but the quality surpasses the cost!

Great hip spot!

By Bethala |

We had a fabulous dinner at this steak house. Food was delicious, staff was even better! Especially our server Samantha! Will definitely go back!

Great food but exuberant price

By Benjamin C |

Food at the STK was excellent, but the price was a bit off considering the amount of food served. Of course, that's what you pay for fine dining.

Tasty tho not spectacular

By Lee Ski |

Nice spot for a small group dinner. Not too noisy so able to talk, although some tables were having loud. We all had wagyu which was very good but not memorable. Great brussel sprouts! Attentive and competent service. Maybe not a destination, but a solid choice for good steak.

Very Good Food nice atmosphere

By LouAmbrosio |

We were staying at the Andaz and didn't want to venture far from the hotel since post covid, the Gaslamp has become a dystopia. My wife and I ordered skinny margaritas and they were on point. We both had the surf and turf and the filet mignon was very good, the lobster tail was a tad undercooked, but better than overcooked. We also had the asparagus which was good, the bread was very good and the Burrata appetizer was good too. Service was excellent. My only complaint was the pricing. The bill with tip (yes we had 5 drinks) was $350. I thought that was a lot for 2 people. But I guess that's inflation in the covid world.

Not worth the money

By NancyJ |

We go to high-end steak houses and this one was a bad experience for us. The food was just ok. The music was very loud like a club. The waiter we had was strange right off the bat. I think his name was Nando. I asked for water and he offered us bottled sparkling water or Figi bottled. I then noticed other people with water being poured in their glasses. He wanted us to pay for water! His interaction with us was strange. When I asked for salt and pepper he looked at me like he couldn’t believe I asked for it. Then we had to ask a second time for salt and pepper. He forgot lemon. He acted put out when we asked for real butter. He said he’d see what he could do. I wanted my donut dessert to go and asked for the sauces in little containers. First he said they didn’t have anything to put them in. Then he changed his mind and said he’d find something. We told the manager after dinner about our experience. She offered us a free meal on our next visit. There won’t be a next visit.

Top notch service and delicious food.

By Irene |

Fabulous Meal and great service. We had never been here before so all of the choices were a bit overwhelming but we had a wonderful server who explained it all. Glad we listened to Noah and ordered the wagru.

Amazing Dinner with Friends

By bhetherington7 |

Had the pleasure of having a spectacular dinner for six at STK San Diego on Sunday, December 29th. Chef Tim spoiled us rotten with a fantastic Chef's tasting menu and each course was delicious. Sydney, our server, was amazing and knew exactly when to anticipate another glass of wine or cocktail and was all smiles. First up, a platter of sliders or Lil' Brgs as they're called here. Wagyu beef on a black sesame seed bun with a hint of melted cheese, tomato slice and crunchy pickle--what a perfect start! After the sliders, we were pleasantly surprised by a colossal seafood platter with shrimp, chilled lobster tails, ceviche, King crab legs, and oysters accompanied by a flavorful cocktail sauce and mignonette for dipping. I'm telling you the platter was massive and I am surprised we were able to make such a dent in it and still manage to eat steaks later that night! The seafood was fresh and Instagram-worthy! Then we were presented a tuna tartare that was one of my favorite dishes. A nice mix of salty soy sauce, crunchy taro chip and raw fresh tuna sweetened with a honey emulsion. Now for the epic show stopper! We had the cowgirl ribeye, filet and NY strip. As the self-proclaimed steak guy, I thought each was delicious, well cooked and perfectly seasoned. Sydney offered up the STK butter board which I highly suggest! Also highly recommend the bearnaise and au poivre sauce for steaks if you want a little extra zing with your meat. For non-steak eaters, the seared tuna with marbled potatoes and pepper coulis is top notch. The sides included a sweet corn pudding (so good), brussels sprouts (fantastic) and three variations of baked mac and cheese: one traditional, one with truffles, and one including chunks of lobster. Way to go Chef Tim! I had no room left over for dessert, but my party enjoyed the assortment of cotton candy, chocolate goodies and churro donutss that came out for dessert. Will definitely come back for dinner or a drink at the bar if in San Diego.

Outstanding Happy Hour!

By Memphis Hotel Guy |

Outstanding Happy Hour! We called to confirm if the restaurant is offering the Happy Hour specials listed in the web site. They said ‘absolutely yes’ and we were able to reserve a table for 6. Excellent service

Fun dinner thanks to Raphael

By Medleyvn |

What a wonderful dinner we had here, thanks to our server Raphael! He recommended that we do the dry rub and the Waygu butter on our steaks and it was PHENOMENAL! Ambience was great. We went early with our one year old and the staff was extremely accommodating. Steaks were great. My baby loved the creamed spinach and the mashed potatoes. The crab cake was a stand out app. Would definitely return here again and hope we are in Raphael’s section next time!

I am a frequent visitor of

By JoeyJ1203 |

I am a frequent visitor of stk restaurants ( Las Vegas , Orlando, and now San Diego . It wasn’t very busy which was nice . Our hostess and waiter were excellent . Food came on time . And was well prepared . I would recommend stk. On a side note, a big 1942 drinker . $55 a shot is out of line . We had 4 total drinks and it was almost 50% of the bill . A bottle goes for $150 , $200 max where it’s inflated . You don’t need to make over $1200 a bottle . Kind of ridiculous but other than that, great food, great service . Would go back!

Dinner is outstanding and speechless. Brunch not remarkable

By FuzzyBeesMom |

Dinner is outstanding and speechless. Brunch not remarkable. We stayed at the Andaz hotel, which is conveniently connected to the restaurant. On our first night, the dining experience was purely amazing. From the cocktails to the food and the impeccable service by AJ, everything was exceptional. My husband enjoyed a ribeye steak, while I savored the Chilean sea bass, which was one of the best I've ever had. The cut was unusually thick, almost the size of a baseball, making it a memorable dish. Impressed by our dinner, we decided to return the next morning before heading to the airport. Unfortunately, the brunch did not live up to our previous dinner experience. My husband ordered steak and eggs, and I had a lobster benedict. We both had bottomless breakfast drinks. Despite being the only diners, service was slow, and we had to seek assistance from the bartender as our server, Omar, was at times nowhere to be found. I highly recommend STK for dinner, as the experience was outstanding. However, brunch was underwhelming and did not meet the same high standards.

Perfect Choice

By Lisa G |

We were visiting San Diego and wanted some exceptional food. This place did not disappoint. We are from Houston and know good steak and the waygu was delicious. We had probably the best server we've ever had in Noah. We were a bit overwhelmed by the choices but he steered us in the right direction was the tuna appetizer and the tasty sides. And who ever raves about the bread? Seriously, I would have been happy just with the bread it was so good. The places is decorated in a very modern way, which added to the vibe of the evening.

Sooo good!

By irresistivo |

AMAZINGGGG!! My tastebuds were so happy and my stomach oh so full. My delicious and then some list: Sourdough bread with blue cheese butter and chive oil. Grilled octopus. Delmonico steak. But the absolute mouth watering winner of the night was the filet topped with foie gras and truffle 3 ways - shaved truffles, truffle oil and truffle salt. You seriously need this in your life. I couldn’t even think straight after that but I believe for dessert we had a vanilla cheesecake topped with lemon meringue and cotton candy. And to make an amazing dinner even better, the service was stellar. We were checked on by the hostess, manager, waiter, 2 busboys and the chef throughout the night. Everyone was beyond attentive, lovely, helpful. THE. PERFECT. DINNER. Just go!

Avoid

Ridiculous noise levels, long waits, mediocre food. Avoid this place at all costs. Super overrated. Service was fine.

Excellent Service and Food

By Oscar M |

We had a great dinner very attentive service, great appetizers, drinks and steak, in downtown san diego

Food came out too fast and we were rushed.

By Mike C |

We were rushed. When you spend $175 per person you don't expect you main course to come out before your are halfway through your appetizers. That was very disappointing. It then seemed obvious that they needed the table for a large group that they were setting up for.

Ambience and music was awesome

By Narissakarim |

The ambience and vibe at STK was amazing. Great music! The food was great and tasted awesome but one of the sides came out cold. The service was ok. The waitress didn’t really come by to check on us. It was a milestone birthday celebration and she did not go above or beyond. Didn’t offer a free drink or dessert not that it was expected but it would have been nice especially with how expensive the restaurant is.

Whats wrong with STK ?!

By AlbertoMay |

I used to love going to STK in NY and Miami, this past week I went to the one in Mexico City and the one in San Diego and both where not good. The one in San Diego was a ghost town no one was there and service was just average and the food very average almost bad. No atmosphere in there, big and cold.

Amazing Martinis, Steak & Staff

By Kathleen Walters |

The service is always amazing here. The hostess kind… where they seat you thoughtful. Nothing beats a good dirty martini, well cooked steak and getting what you pay for. Highly recommend.

A plus!

By Curtis B |

Came in for after wedding dinner. Made us feel so special! Will be back! The food was exceptional! Had another couple say congratulations! Thanks for the champagne and dessert.

HTS at STK was AOK

By Daphne S |

Birthday celebration for my USD college son (HTS) and Jordyn helped make the celebration fabulous! MockTails, cocktails, wine, wagyu and sea bass we’re on our table menu and everything just perfection! Jordyn’s service was off the chart: Attentive but not hovering and offered delicious dining options without overselling. She and Matthew the Dining Room Manager made this an absolutely wonderful evening out! Thank you and Bon Appetite, Salute and Cheers. 🤩🎉

Steak dinner was great

By Justin S |

The steak was cooked to perfection. Our guests also loved the sea bass and house bread. I highly recommend asking for Jordyn as she catered to us and recommended great things from the menu like the spinalas

Great steak but a little noisy

By Sharon S |

Went here for a business dinner. The bar area is very open and volume flows into seating area for dinner. This makes it very hard to have a conversation at a normal volume. Salad and steaks were great and Mac and cheese was to die for. Cute desserts too. Drinks were adequate too. Sourdough bread was also fantastic. Service was very good and we never had to ask for anything.

Overpriced Steakhouse

By ZProf |

I eat out daily and have visited numerous high-end steakhouses over the years. STK in San Diego was a disappointment. The service and food were average and inconsistent. The gentleman responsible for ensuring our water glasses were filled was fantastic. I drink a lot of water, and my glass was never half empty. Unfortunately, our server was another story. He was very knowledgeable about the menu, but the service was sporadic. After food is delivered in a high-end restaurant, I expect our server to check with us to see if we need anything. Several times, we had to ask for our server. I ordered a whiskey sour and my companion a glass of merlot. The whiskey sour was a joke; it was mostly ice and was the worst whisky sour I have ever had. We started with a hot, just-out-of-the-oven loaf of bread. The bread was fantastic, so we had a second loaf. We started with the calamari and Caesar salad appetizers. The calamari was average, like most calamari sold by Sysco foods. You know, the calamari with too much breading. The Caesar salad was outstanding, with fresh, cold, crisp Romain lettuce and just the right amount of delicious dressing tossed in. We had mac and cheese and asparagus sides. Both were excellent; the mac and cheese was very cheesy, and the asparagus was perfectly grilled and delicious. I had the filet; my companion had the filet and lobster. Both steaks were ordered with Wagyu butter. The steaks are served with a large pat of Wagyu butter on top, then partially melted with a blowtorch at the table. My companion's steak was significantly better than mine, which was tough and flavorless. My companion's steak was tender, perfectly cooked, and had a wonderful flavor. However, my companion's lobster was dry and tough. We ended the evening by sharing an average slice of apple pie, and we both believed it came from Costco. Overall, for $415 for two, I would expect consistency and excellence. Unfortunately, this was not the case at STK San Diego. We both would return for a light dinner consisting of their bread loaf, Caesar salad, and mac and cheese. That would be a perfect meal.

Never again. Terrible experience.

Granted it’s Saturday night, the music is good, but blending a club level sound system with a steakhouse that drops $65 slabs of meat is not an easy task.. forget about communicating with anyone at your table. Honestly the service.. they dump the plate on the table and then the circus starts.. the “fancy” steak is tough, the second steak knife is as blunt as the first one “that’s all we have” is the excuse.. the presentation is so bland I want to cry, the side orders are horrible.. I will never recommend this place to my worst enemy! If your going to serve a bellow average steak at least have a seriously sharp knife, but instead here you are battling this chunk of leather.. insane prices, bye.

Rip off Jason

By Tas |

We attempted to order the surf and turf off the menu at 96$ and the cute waitress asked if we wanted crumbs of some type. That dish went from 96 to 297, which I paid. I felt husseled. The very 1st word out of the waitresses mouth was how transparent she was. No worries. Wrote zero on tip line and she replied "that fine" 60 seconds Jason, the manager, tells me I should have talked to him and this was childish. Then he told me to leave. I told Jason, I would leave after I finished my water. For a 500 dollars , I expected better. He didn't even ask why I wrote no tip or rip off on the bill? I managed a restaurant 25 yrs ago and this is not how one approaches a customer who didnt complain. I never asked for a manager nor did I file a complaint. I never raised my voice nor did I express anger. I am African American? I have never seen such an approach. Proper training ? The food was good and so was the service excluding the upcharge and the poor management response. I did finish my water and i left peaceful, as an attorney and federal employee of course it is my duty. Jason and the waitress may need help understanding service recovery

No thanks

We have been to other STK locations and San Diego does no favors to the brand. After being seated at 730pm there was no end to the long wait. Waiting for the waitress, waiting for the drinks we ordered, waiting for the food, waiting for the steaks because the sides came out first. All the food was room temperature - the sides, the steaks... The sides were served in cast iron but we didn’t need to worry about getting burned because they weren’t hot. Actually everything was room temperature. The food tasted good but overall the entire group was disappointed. Eventually half of our group started going directly to the bar for their drinks. I’ve worked in the industry and this was not the “orchestrated chaos” of a well run restaurant. Save yourself the time and go anywhere else.

Wow

So STK gets a rare Five Stars from Me not only because of the food....well frankly 1 (at a minimum) of these stars come from the impeccably engaging personality of their bartender Sydney. Having just arrived into town I chose the steak place nearest to my hotel and STK won the luck of the draw. I opened the door at the restaurant early for a Sunday and found myself as the only patron in this eclectically vibrant cavernous establishment. Just as I turned to leave she exclaimed “Cmon in!” I replied “Are you open?” She replied “Yes & join us for dinner!” I am so glad I did. Sydney was fantastic - her recommendations on my choices were spot on. My water glass & wine glass we’re constantly full (I pound both) and the Steak....? Amazing. I started with the Wedge Salad which was perfect - I did ask for Onion & extra Bleu Cheese just to make it more my style. I had Sydney choose my wine which was a Malbec that was absolutely incredible - I now regret asking her what my brand was (but its ok I’ll be back). For the main course I got the Rib Eye which at $77 was pricey and yet the flavor was perfectly priceless and worth it. What I love about STK is they have close to a dozen sauces which you can have to accompany your steak. I consider myself a steak savant having spent a decade in both Manhattan & Houston and I must admit STK just made my top 10....but of course none of them have Sydney. The best part of the meal (beyond Sydney) was believe it or not their bread! Their bread was like no other Ive ever had - wow! I had to skip desert simply because I had no room left. Next time for sure. The Bag of Donuts & the Cheese Cake looked like they were worth the return trip. Should you ever find yourself in SD craving a steak this is the place - forget the rest. That is of course only if Sydney is working and you are willing to sit and eat at the bar.

Best steak ever!

Best steak ever! Compared to other famous steak house restaurants, i would say the food was excellent.

Extremely dissapointing.

We are visiting our daughter in San Diego and went to the restaurant for a late lunch on Christmas. Had no trouble getting a reservation and now we know why. The noise level of the DJ techno music (I mean are you kidding me - a DJ and loud techno on Christmas afternoon) was unbearable. We asked that the volume be turned down to no effect. (Note that other commenters have also complained about this.) We sat and waited for a long time for our food to arrive despite the fact that there was almost no one in the restaurant. (Our waitress was polite and pleasant and the only part of the meal that was enjoyable. We gave her a good tip because if was Christmas and the food and ambience was not her fault.) The dry aged porterhouse steak was TERRIBLE - fatty and sinewy. I would have sent it back but didn't want to upset our daughter. I lived and worked for over 40 years in NYC and know what an expensive top end steak is supposed to be like. I also worked as a waiter in law school and know how a good restaurant is supposed to be run. I now live in Honolulu and have eaten at STK in Honolulu and the experience was MUCH better. STK in San Diego is terrible and should be avoided at all costs.

Excellent service

Service was great from the time we walked into the door. We were seated quickly and our server Jordyn was so gracious and amazing. She recommended the sea bass which was delicious. My husband and I will definitely be back.

They served us very late

By Raquel |

They have a policy of not leaving the table that contradicts the policy that you lose your reservation if you arrive 15 minutes late. We arrived on time and had to wait an hour for the table. The food was good.

Creepy advertising

By TGN_50 |

Stayed at the Andaz for 5 nights during a business trip. The hotel was fine but the advertising for this steak place makes the whole place feel like some creepy men’s club instead of a business class hotel. A colleague at the meeting told me that an assistant to a female exec in his company unknowingly booked a business dinner there and the exec ended up being embarrassed by the advertising. Looks like a topless bar. Photos attached.

Absolutely the best steak in San Diego

By angExplorer |

Had STK several years ago and couldn't wait to eat again. The STK is in Andaz Hotel and is super quiet which is good for us. We ordered a pepper crusted aged Delmonico steak which was perfect with a side of Broccolini au gratin which was a good complement. The complimentary blue cheese sourdough and chive oil was also amazing.

AMAZING

One of the top 3 best steak meals I’ve ever had. We came to celebrate my daughter’s college graduation. Seated promptly. Great location. Extremely friendly attentive service. Bone in filet and lobster was simply amazing. Most of us had filet one way or another. All prepared as ordered. Sides of mashed potatoes, Brussel sprouts, mac n cheese, creamed spinach were equally fantastic, as were deserts. The best was the bag of donuts.

Mediocre

I was looking forward to going to STK but it didn't live up to expectations. Service: We showed up at 6:45 for 7pm reservation and we weren't seated until 7:20pm. People who showed up after us were seated before us and we were only seated after I said something. When seated, Raphael was attentive at first but then never checked on us after our food got served. My girlfriend asked for bread for the table twice and we never got it. We had to ask a busser for some bread. Once our steaks were delivered, my meat was rare and I asked for medium. I had to flag down another busser to ask for our waiter about my meat. A manager came over and took the meat to appropriately the right temp. Still out waiter never came and checked on us. We only saw our waiter after that til I had to ask for the check. Food: I had the filet 10oz peppercorn crusted with there bernaise sauce. My girlfriend had the wagyu with the chimmichuri which was good. The food was overall good but don't think it was worth the price. I have been to much better steakhouses for that price point.

Birthday visit

By DrDaveMaui |

Good birthday dinner. Great starters: oysters (East and West coast) on the half shell; Day Boat scallops with celery root puree, pork belly, frisee; fried calamari with shishito peppers. For non-steak eaters, excellent salmon with great sides (sweet corn pudding and creamed spinach). Friendly service by Robert, who supported our preferences, needs and choices. Had fun with the sparkler to celebrate birthday. Really enjoyed talking with young busperson Abraham.

Good Food but Lacking Service

By Devon Y |

This was my first visit to STK and though the food was good the service was lacking. Went there for restaurant week and ordered the surf and turf. The steak medallions were so tender and the shrimp was flavored wonderfully. Sadly, we had to ask more than once for salt and pepper, and our bread didn't make it out until our entrees were served. The entrees also didn't include the correct sauce or toppings as described on the menu. I could understand if this restaurant was super busy but it was not very crowded and for the price I expected better.

Modern, loud, good food, good drinks

By utfiero |

Food: Our party of five ordered a variety of appetizers and entrees. Calamari- perfectly cooked and seasoned. Tuna tartare: stale taro chips on top but perfect cubed tuna. Heirloom salad: fresh, tasty Beef carpaccio: flavorful but garnish slightly overwhelmed the delicate beef flavor Filet mignon: perfectly cooked to order, tender, flavorful Drinks: perfectly prepared top shelf Old Fashioned Service: overall good service, attentive waiter, good supporting staff, William the chef touched base with our party Ambiance: loud, modern, trendy, not your father’s upscale steakhouse Cleanliness: above average Bathroom cleanliness: average

Not worth the hype!

A dining experience where you have high expectations that got destroyed right off the beginning with an arrogant and snotty hostess, who offered us the dogs table right next to the entrance and when asked for another, she told me you can sit outside,......dinner at 50 degrees. After telling her we would leave, not to forget to mention, we made the reservation 3 weeks prior and stayed at the attached ANDAZ Hotel, the manger finally gave us a table in the main dining area. The rest of the evening went OK, but certainly not worth $500 for two which included 2 starters, a Tomahawk Steak for 2 and a Bottle of wine for $70, 2 Cocktails and 2 sides. All other charges are up-charges. As I said, not worth the price you pay, certainly not to watch another couple sitting at a 6 Top and later towards the end a "couple" who sat next to us, with his hands anywhere but on the table! The only positive was Rafael the server who did his best to make the evening at least a little enjoyable!

They lied to me and I don't appreciate it.

I was SO excited when last Friday the website for this specific location said they have daily Happy Hour. It was the entire reason we dressed up fancy and went out to the Gaslamp district. To make 100% sure that the website was accurate I called and asked about happy hour and their dress code and was ensured that they had Happy Hour. However... When we arrived the hostess said we did not talk to the location, and that the number on the website goes to a central answering hub at corporate and that they don't know what they're talking about. The hostess told me that they "don't have the supplies" to have Happy Hour and that they don't have any deals at all. Even when I told her that I was ensured both on the phone and by the website that they should, she said "Well it's wrong. No bars are open in town." ... Which was another lie because we went bar-hopping at several bars less than two blocks away. I've been to the STK location in Las Vegas and it was excellent so I was shocked that this location doesn't seem to care about integrity or getting customers back in the door after being closed for months.

STK San Diego worth a try... yup

By Wo G |

Staying at the wonderful @Andaz Hotel, and not feeling well, I needed a smallish but solid pick-me-up meal. Service was super friendly and they accommodated me without a reservation. What bugs me every time is that when you dine alone/by yourself they squeeze you into this single-just-fit in tables even though others are open...same here... not feeling well- I had no desire to argue... I WAS SMALL!!! Ok- this aside- all would be 5 stars and thus I forgive that seating dilemma (will there ever be a rise to a better place?)... - Choices were wonderful. - NO SOUP NO SOUP NO SOUP on the menu - the salad and octopus were near perfect - the small filet Mignon of - My neighbor was reported as out of this world -Service very attentive - atmosphere welcoming and not too loud - overall a classy-chic place that deserves a 4.5 but I’m in a good Mood 5 ... enjoy!!! Enjoy... Oh the service was splendid (other than the table thingy)

Very nice setting! Loved the decor and the music. The food was all pretty good, but I think it is more about the experience.

Negative stars

By Traveling:939 |

Racist establishment. I was threatened that they would call the security on me because I answered my phone at the table. The people I was with didn’t like that and they called security on me. I am allowed to answer my phone in a restaurant. I didn’t even finish my food and everyone who was yelling at me didn’t get kicked out but I was. I wasn’t even questioned but somehow I was the problem. Never in my life have I experienced this. I didn’t even finish my food. This is an overpriced, racist place. Do not go here if you’re black.
