Oysters Galore!

By InternationalDiva4.0 |

I find this to be a great seafood restaurant to eat at in Downtown Dallas! My boyfriend loved the oysters which were big & fresh and I loved their fried shrimp platter. I would recommend this seafood restaurant to any seafood lover!

The best snapper I've ever had!

By Mark M |

I have eaten broiled snapper hundreds of times since it is my favorite meal, but never have I had it this good! Gus, the waiter was attentive, friendly, and polite. I highly recommend this place!

Still a great place for New Orleans style seafood!

By wtw9 |

This restaurant hasn't missed a step as a long established popular eatery in uptown Dallas. It was also nice to see that the restaurant provided two parking lots nearby, and I'm sure they are well used. My wife and I arrived about 11:10 on a weekday for lunch. While were among the first to arrive, the place was virtually full by 11:30. We both had some of the best gumbo I've ever eaten. My only regret was that I ordered a cup instead of a bowl. I had a dozen fresh oysters on the half shell while my wife had barbecued shrimp. Her meal also came with a very tasty slaw and fresh, hot bread. The atmosphere of the building, along with the menu and great service from professional waiters, took us both back to New Orleans. We well be returning to this restaurant soon.

My wife and I had lunch there today and it's as good as the 1st time we ate there 40 years ago. Herb and his crew have this Gulf seafood down. Great food and a delightful staff!!!!

Great Lunch!

By Gary F |

Visiting business associates in Dallas and they recommend S & D Oyster Company for lunch. Out of nine of us only two of us, including me, were unfamiliar with this establishment and four of us were not from Texas. What a great spot with really good food. I had gumbo, fried shrimp, French fries & cole slaw. Highly recommend.

A Dallas Classic

By Carl S |

A Dallas institution in business for decades. Gives a very New Orleans vibe with food to match. Impeccable service of the old school sort. Great atmosphere. Worth every penny.

Best oysters and shrimp in town

By Suzan F |

We love this New Orleans style restaurant with great raw and fried oysters and great boiled or fried shrimp plus broiled fish, gumbo, etc. this place is larger than when it opened decades ago but is true to its mission, serving great seafood at a reasonable price.

Fun Environment, Good Seafood

By FederalExpress |

We enjoyed our dinner at S & D Oyster. The sampler was the best pick. Trout was average. Service was excellent. We sat in the back by the fireplace which was quieter. We will be back.

Best Shrimp in Metroplex

By tom s |

Have been here at least 20 times for their fried shrimp over many years. Perfectly fried with tremendous flavor. Also highly rate their shrimp dip and lemon pie. Have never been disappointed!

Consistent quality seafood

Occupying the 125-year-old Appel and Boren Grocery building (where my grandmother, as a little girl, went to take her mother's grocery orders) S & D Oyster Bar has continued to serve excellent Gulf Coast-style oysters, shrimp, hush puppies, etc. And the absolute best ice tea with fresh mint anywhere. Cole slaw is excellent and the cold shrimp salad is outstanding. I've eaten here for over 25 years and there is no food better anywhere.

Excellent Seafood lunch

By Dennis B |

The menu is simple with multiple good seafood choices. The raw oysters are excellent. Equally good are the grilled oysters covered with cheese. The sandwich and entrees are tasty- try the New Orleans BBQ shrimp. Cold draft beer served in iced glasses is quite good. They are practicing proper social distancing. I do suggest sitting in the courtyard; it offers more ambiance.

Old Standby Not as Good

By jeff o |

We have been eating here for 30 years, so our perspective is a long one. Waiters and Service is always Top Notch! But the Prices have been Increased!! The French Fries were very, very greasy!! Hush Puppies were OK, but not great. We ordered the Fried Oyster Plate and the Fried Shrimp Plate and divide it in half. These Dishes were Good, but too expensive in our opinion! Draft Beer Prices are reasonable. The New Patio, Back Room & Bar are a Nice Addition!! Overall, I think most people will enjoy S&D. I guess the higher prices can be justified due to the Dense Population in Uptown/Downtown these days.

Excellent Seafood, great service, and lots of fun

By McCharlie1 |

It seems to me that S& D has been around since the last ice age. I have probably eaten there more than 50 times over the past 20 years. I always go back because the food is excellent and the service is about the best in Dallas. The wait staff has years of experience seeing to every need.

Best Oysters the world

By csmith191 |

As an avid lover of Oysters and having travelled to 65 countries (and climbing) I've not had a better oyster then at S&D. Perfectly shucked, and always fresh they are by far the leaders with good food. You guys rock!

Delicious!

By Rocky |

This is our favorite restaurant in Dallas. Oysters are fresh and delicious. Love the custom made sauce! Seafood is fresh and served hot. Good service, fun, casual atmosphere. In warm weather, it’s nice to sit outside in the back. Quiet and beautiful!

Excellent Value & Food

By Lynn_Lyon |

First, they have 2 parking lots behind with convenient free parking. We sat outside behind the main dining room. It is lovely out there. I loved the broiled snapper with creole rice. It is simple and just perfect. He had the fried shrimp with hot crispy fries. We had a couple of draft beers and finished with a nice bread pudding. Our total for the meal before tip was $79.

Always Great Service & Food

By 631jefferyr |

First time I ate here was with some co-workers. I'm from a city about 130 miles away, every time I am anywhere near the place, I try to go eat here. My wife & I have been several times on weekend nights and were able to enjoy some good oysters and seafood and make a show at Fair Park. Limited menu, but everything is good and wait staff are great.

Warm and inviting

By Randy T |

Over all it was very good. Service was friendly and welcoming. The oyster were very good and the table side sauce was great.

When you just have to have oysters...go here

By terrycarlson2018 |

We love oysters on the half-shell. Always fresh, always good, cool restaurant concept. Easy in and ut.

Good Oysters & Shrimp

By J B |

We visited early Saturday evening for dinner. We ate fried oysters and shrimp. They came with hushpuppies, we ordered the fries. The food is good. As someone who has eaten hush puppies all my life I thought they were a little dense. They were cooked good and were done. The oysters were great as was the shrimp. This is a good restaurant in a good area. It's the kind of place you can walk around a little before or after your meal. The waiter was very professional and attentive... However when we ordered drinks, iced tea and water he seemed to care less (he wanted to seat us at the bar in the beginning). He was attentive to our needs but a real drop in friendliness. I understand that the upsale is important to business but not everyone will drink alcohol with their meal. On the ticket he also charged us for two iced teas instead of one (unless water is the same cost and I did not realize it, if so, no big deal). I did not bring it up since I was on a date with my wife, I just let it ride. He did not even ask if we wanted change when I paid with cash. Now the amount that I gave was about 20% above the bill which would cover the gratuity but I do liked to be asked. If this waiter could understand that not every denial for the extras like drinks or dessert is a slam he would do better. We had plans to go somewhere else later that evening. We wanted what we ordered and really nothing else. I don't want to discourage someone from trying this place, I am a little picky about food and service, I have family in the food business so I am more aware of some of the small things. All in all I will go back, I like the food and the area is great.

Good but pricey

By A Lawson H |

Limited menu but delicious food. The oyster 'loaf' was very tasty BUT very small for $12 - you will leave hungry. Restaurant has survived on McKinney Avenue - where there are many many restaurants - for 20+ years, so they are doing something right. Building reminds of a New Orleans oyster bar - old brick walls and a shaded courtyard.

Dinner

By Shelia W |

Great seafood. I had the oyster and shrimp combo. I would come again and recommend to anyone new to Dallas. Hushpuppies were just ok. The waiter was nice. Ambience was very casual and French quarter style.

Incredible Seafood and Beautiful Patio

By MandaPanda4444 |

The seafood was very fresh: oysters, crab, and shrimp. Everything was delicious and well prepared. The service was wonderful and very attentive. But the highlight of the meal was the beautiful patio in the back complete with iron tables, gas lamps and a fountain. You feel like you are in the middle of the French Quarter...only cleaner!

Excellent Food & Service, Great Parking Provided

By Bruce W |

My review of S & D on TA indicated this would be a great place to meet an an out-of-town associate for a casual meal and discuss business. My first surprise came when we turned off McKinney to find a place to park behind the restaurant and discovered parking lots on both sides of the street, exclusively for their customers. Then we walked into a place that looked more like what I would find in New Orleans, but right here in Dallas. We were seated immediately and greeted right away by our waiter who provided excellent service throughout our meal. We started with their wonderful shrimp dip and both had their fried shrimp and oyster entree -- their most popular dish; and it didn't take us long to find out why so many people have great things to say about S & D. As the title of this review indicates their food, service and amenities are excellent and I for one will definitely be back.

Pretty good seafood for a reasonable price

By Traveltheorient |

We stumbled on to this place by accident and decided to try it. We had a pretty good and enjoyable meal. Friendly service....Easy to access with the free trolley downtown.

Little seafood Gem

By LaShawn F |

The is the best kept secret...When my husband and I sat down with menu we thought the prices were a little high...Bit the food and phenomenal service quickly changed our minds. Definitely worth a visit and I will be coming back.

Early Dinner While in Dallas

By Bruce A |

S&D Oyster is an institution in Dallas. We have been a patron since they opened in the 70's. I always get the same thing...fried shrimp, a beer or iced tea, and you must have dessert. My all-time favorite is the lemon pie. Absolutely the best around. Entries come with Cole slaw and it is one of the best I have had. It is a little pricey, but not bad. I only wish they served 6 shrimp instead of 5 for $14.95. That is my only complaint. Try it, you will like it, I guarantee.

Gene was right but i already knew...

By kim b |

Astronaut Gene Cernans' review convinced my husband to go but i already knew S&D was the bomb. thanks, David, for such great recommendations and service, the new orleans bbq shrimp was unique and divine, the snapper and crab fantastic plus the coleslaw is a great recipe. do NOT skip the lemon meringue pie, i'll be back to try the bread pudding. the patio is gorgeous in nice weather. i also love the classic nature of the place down to the old fashioned restaurant glassware and dishes they use. it's just like being in a nice seafood restaurant on the gulf 50 years ago. we actually went for the oysters and Mr. Cernan is still correct, they are the best.

New Orleans in Dallas

By Deborealtor |

Go on past the main dining and discover the cozier back room and the lovely courtyard where servers dressed in traditional style serve shrimp, oysters, and other New Orleans favorites.

Nice visit and meal!

By JimC2626 |

I was in Dallas, visiting friends and family and we dined at S & D. Food was very good. Service was excellent. From the oysters on the half shell (which were plump and tasty) to the fried shrimp (which were sweet and briny) the overall visit was excellent.

New favorite Dallas restaurant

By Gma831 |

On my annual visits to Dallas, I tend to eat at long time favorite Tex Mex or Barbeque restaurants but this time family took me to S &D Oyster for lunch in the charming New Orleans style courtyard. What a fabulous experience beginning with the platter of fresh oysters on the shell--the sauce mixed by our nice courteous waiter. Every dish was a taste treat. Shrimp fried in a light batter is especially recommended as is the appetizer of crab maison.

Our Friday Place

By Betty A |

We try to have lunch here on Fridays. The staff and food are phenomenal. We meet whatever family members can come, and love the welcome we receive from the minute we set foot in the place. We are ordinary customers, but they treat us like visiting royalty! I love the shrimp salad, my husband loves the Po Boys. No matter what you order, it's delicious.

Our Go To Place for Great Oysters and Shrimp

By Suzan F |

We love S&D for fried oysters and fried shrimp. The boiled shrimp and raw oysters are great too, as are the gumbo and broiled fish. The main dining area looks straight out of New Orleans. S&D added a great additional room and patio dining area as well as a full service bar a year or so ago. Try it and you’ll want to become a regular too.

What a wonderful place to experience...

By Jerseygirl S |

As a young bride, my dear mother learned to cook gumbo from a really good cook in New Orleans. So I was fortunate enough to grow up in Texas eating some pretty darn good gumbo. After trying shrimp gumbo all over the country (but most especially in New Orleans), I would have to say that the gumbo at S & D was incredibly delicious! Added to that you have a number of other good choices (e.g., the fried shrimp and oyster combo, the crisp and tangy cole slaw and the lemon pie) when you choose to dine at the wonderful "old world" establishment. You also get the full-on "old world" service--ne plus ultra! There are several dining areas to choose from, including an outdoor patio. (Unfortunately, it was too chilly to sit outside the night we were there.) Try it, you will like it!

Fresh frigid gulf oysters

By matmcann87 |

This place is old school old dallas old money. I think i was the youngest one there for lunch that day, but otherwise charming to say the least. Severs are quick and efficient and to the point. The bartender was nice also. Its the best in uptown for high quality oysters and fresh snapper. Ill be back soon!

You'll Never Be Disappointed!

By soror0198 |

S&D's customer service is A1....the mature and seasoned professionals that are your wait staff make it a pleasurable and cozy experience. The oyster loaf is one of our absolute favs - simply nicely fried oysters, lightly toasted bun/roll and a light smathering of tartar sauce - classic! But one of the main reasons we go back is the simple cheeseburger that is a plain and simple cheeseburger, but so very tasty! I don't who's back in the kitchen, but the burger makes you feel like you're at Granny's house on a weekend getting a good ole down home cheeseburger - delicioso! S&D will always be a place we visit when we spend time in Dallas. Keep up the great work.

Felt like I was in New Orleans

By Cowboy6254 |

The sweetest oysters I have had in a while. Fresh from the gulf and wonderful. As for Therese was our server and she mixed up the most wonderful cocktail sauce you can imagine. She has been there for over 20 years.

Great meal and the service was awesome!

By SamDP |

Hubby and I don't get to Dallas too often to eat, but found ourselves there on a Friday night. As so many people out & about, we expected long lines and an hour wait, but we were seated right away at S & D Oyster, albeit not the greatest table as it was right by the front door. Our waiter was there immediately to greet us and take our drink order. I ordered the Crabmeat Maison Salad while hubby ordered the Combo Shrimp/Oyster plate. We both ordered beers and decided they were the coldest we'd ever had. My salad was excellent. Hubby enjoyed his cole slaw (it was very tasty) and the fried shrimp and wished he'd gotten a full order of shrimp, not that the oyster was not good. The hush puppies were a little bland. But overall our meal was really good. The service is the best!

Excellent

By Ellen L |

First, be sure yo sit in the back room if there's a table available. Much better experience. Joe, bartender and server, is a legend. Food sbd drinks are excellent

Excellent meal and service

By Margaret H |

We had a wonderful meal at this old establishment. If you love fresh Gulf seafood, and oysters especially, you should go there. The waiters are courteous and very helpful. Great place for families and friends.

Shrimp In Uptown Dallas Done Well

By Oldjack |

S & D Oyster Company was a step back in time with Budweiser signs and red checked table clothes and Saltine crackers on the table. The food was well done (US Standard) and focused on shrimp and oysters. Service was friendly with a few issues (forgotten dressing and slow) but quite acceptable. Overall a good experience in Uptown Dallas and you probably cannot do much better

S&D, A tried and true seafood cafe for the ages.

By Jim D |

Went to S&D by special request of my spouse. She looks forward to any meal here. She had raw oysters, fried oysters and fried shrimp. Perhaps too much food but her enjoyment was key. S&D does not disappoint.

Consistently Good

By Clint C |

This place is my wife's favorite restaurant and we decided to dine there for her birthday. The service was amazing as usual and the oysters were great. I tried the Grouper Loaf for the first time and was very impressed.

Lunch

By 1usedcar |

To Herb and Family Thanks for letting me and my wife be a part for nearly 28 years. I was introduced to S AND D BY my best friend Wiley Roberts after a car buying experience at LONE STAR CADILLAC, he said let's have lunch. Never in a million years did I know that I would meet so many friends. The first friend was Alvare who turns out to be a great friend. We grew to love him like family, and vice versa. Let me explain! The entire wait staff is Great! William is the best! Teresa is the best! I miss Alvare, but he trained one of the most endearing persons I have had the pleasure to meet. CINDY!!!!!!!!!! My wife and I consider her like family and not a waitress. She is perfect at everything she does for us!!!! She has figured out all my little quirks and I love it. Food: The best I have ever had! Shrimp: The best I have ever had! Snapper: The best I have ever had! Hush Puppies: The best I have ever had! Lemon Pie: The best I have ever had! Fries: Crispy and The best I have ever had! Cole Slaw: I would drive a hundred miles to eat. In closing: Thanks for having a class act Restaurant and hats off to you for being a friend and hiring such a class act personnel. An experience I will never forget!

By Pyjamawells156 |

The food was incredible but the coolest waiter that explained the history of the restaurant, made seafood sauce in front of us, knew everything about the food he was serving, a true testament to a gentleman that loves his work having been there for over 30 years. I will carry the name of this restaurant and recommend it to everyone where ever I go. Currently on Mackay Queensland! Thank you for this life memory!

Awesome food and great prices too!

By NFRSNR420 |

A colleague and I went there by chance and my oh my we were amazed with the quality of food and great customer service too! We frequented this place back to back nites!

Best Gumbo since NOLA

By Michele W |

I visited New Orleans for the first time last April and have been searching for BBQ Shrimp and Gumbo ever since. Although I didn't try the shrimp here, the gumbo was the bomb! Spot on the dish I have been missing! The room itself seemed very unassuming and just filled or overfilled with tables and wooden chairs. The clientele on this rainy Friday afternoon was primarily tables of business men and oddly retired older men who you could tell eat here often and consider themselves regulars. The waiter promptly addressed my table of 5 and suggested we start with oysters. He made the cocktail sauce from scratch at our table from lemon juice, ketchup, Worcestershire sauce, horseradish and pepper. He quickly stirred that up and delivered a platter of fresh oysters. We then received our gumbo, hush puppies and French bread. A silence fell over our table as we all devoured our bowls of deliciousness. Yes! I found exactly what I was looking for! You won't be disappointed.

Managers Taster Sampler Great!

By Anna G |

Ordered one of the Sampler Specials and was not disappointed. A little taste of everything on the menu. Every bite brought an ooh & ahh as it was all superb. I will definitely order again,

Fried shrimp 🍤, gumbo & lemon pie🍋 🥧

By Irongal |

Have only eaten here a couple times and both were very good. The gumbo is perfect. The fried shrimp is the best of the fried items by far and the lemon pie a must no matter how full you are. Didn’t see it but heard they now have a patio out back.

Great Food

By Krista J |

I had the crab salad, French fries and bread pudding (YUM) which were all delicious. The only suggestion I would have is to have an inservice with staff on how to smile at and with the customer.

Best Oyster Bar in Dallas

By John C |

Everything is fresh, great food, wonderful fish dishes. excellent service. Just fun place, think your in New Orleans, eating fresh seafood.

A dozen every time!

By RandC31 |

This maybe our favorite place in Dallas! Great service with Gulf Oysters and the wait staff will mix your sauce much better than you can do on your own. It is a must for oyster lovers!!

Lunch time pearl of a restaurant!

By Rubén Z |

I went to Dallas this last Friday with friends. They chose to drive us to the S & D Oyster Co. I could not have chosen a more delightful place to dine. My trout was scrumptious cooked just right. The snapper that my buddy chose was great as well. We ordered cole slaw as a side order plus 2 cups of gumbo. This gumbo would do justice to any of the better establishments in New Orleans or on the Louisiana levee! The spiciness and the contents were both just right! Our waitress was spot on with her timeliness and her service was superior. All in all, this is a great spot for a Friday noon luncheon. Many regulars told me that they come here for dinner on the weekends as well, and it never slacks off on service and food preparation. I will return as soon as I get a chance. It has both indoors and patio dining. Both are memorable because of the history of the place. It also has very good parking situated a few feet away. I recommend S&D most highly. You will not make a mistake by oming here!

Best yet

By Chellegallo |

Have been going to S&D for almost 10 years, every time it’s consistently delicious. They figured out the recipe of quality, service and keeping it simple.. we’ll over 40 years ago. Great family business and best oysters around.

GREAT FOOD AND GREAT SERVICE

By Toby F |

Great place., Everything was wonderful. From oysters on half shell, broiled gouper (was 5 star), captains platter and even the fries. Fries were homemade. To top it off, bead pudding is a must. Will go back when in Dallas. Some of the best seafood I have had from coast to coast.

Great seafood in Uptown

By shiner2018 |

Started with a Bloody Mary, then grilled oysters (omg good), then had raw oysters and a good craft IPA beer on tap. Had a sampler plate of some sort with 1 of each , fried fish , fried shrimp, fried oyster, hush puppy, boiled shrimp, gumbo, shrimp salad, Cole slaw , and 1 more raw oyster. Had to have another beer to finish this. Not a fancy place , just great food and service. Nice outdoor seating also.

Best fried oysters in Dallas!

By Suzan F |

We’ve eaten fried oysters in many restaurants in the USA and we think S&D serves the best we’ve ever eaten! Their fried shrimp is great too, as are the raw oysters, boiled shrimp, and grilled snapper. S&D has not changed much in 25 years and that’s not a bad thing. If you do it right, no reason to change.

Good!

By Clay B |

Non-chain, excellent food and service, at reasonable prices. Has a main dinning area and a smaller more quiet area off the bar. Has a separate parking area located at Boll and Howard streets, about 100 feet from front door that is located on McKinney street. (Downtown Dallas parking is difficult to find.)

Old school charm

By travelingbarnions |

This place has old school charm. The oysters are served with a cocktail sauce that they make right there in front of you - they ask your spice preference and then add that amount of horseradish, plus ketchup, hot sauce, and fresh lemon juice. I personally prefer a mignonette sauce with my oysters, but people who want that old school feel would love the classic cocktail sauce. This food at this place was good, but don't be fooled by the oysters on their menu - it's not a fancy restaurant. Your wine options are red or white, and in either "glass" or "carafe" sizes. They do have a relatively full bar, plus a small beer list. I had a grilled fish, a companion of mine had the fried fish, and another had the fried shrimp. All were served with (really yummy/classic) creamy cole slaw, and you can order either rice or fries. My dish also had dumplings/hush puppies. Honestly, I don't think I'd get oysters there again because I don't prefer cocktail sauce, but it'd be a fun place to take my parents, who are a bit older and would love this type of thing.

Wonderful oysters.

By Kma M |

This place is so much fun. Built in a very old grocery store. Oysters are wonderful. Will mix you cocktail sauce at you table. Small parking area.

Perfect place

By Carl S |

Great atmosphere with excellent food and impeccable service. A Dallas classic for many decades. Great gumbo. My wife loves the oysters and the broiled grouper. My favorite is the BBQ shrimp. So messy and oh so delicious.

Recommended restaurant

By Katjaosterlen |

We enjoyed our meal here, most of it anyway. The oysters were good and the mixed sauce great. The fried oysters were lovely, served with some dry and unintressant breadballs? The coleslaw was the best ever. Missed a more interesting and varied winelist. A bit stressed by staff to pay and finish, this made the whole experience feel at bit like a touristtrap.

Lunch

By Ranchman58 |

A Dallas mainstay. Open in the mid 70’s and in continuous operation since then. Probably the best fried shrimp and oysters in Dallas. I eat here at least once a month and everything on the menu is excellent, even their cheeseburger. Their coleslaw is phenomenal. Some of their wait staff has been with the restaurant from the beginning and is not unusual to have a server that has been there 20 Plus years. Service is always exceptional, prices are moderate and a great value. If you like seafood this is a must go to place.

Still the same great food and service

By Steve T |

We were seated and served very fast. The food is great as always and it has been years since our last visit. The fried shrimp was large and prepared perfect. The red sauce and coleslaw made fresh. Great atmosphere in a historical land marked building.

A Gem...

By bkturner714 |

I think one of the marks of a good restaurant is how the staff treats you when you walk in 30 minutes before close. At S & D my friend and I were served so well. Consistent follow through, totally happy to run a drink out after close so my university roommate could catch up on 23 years of missed connections. Not a hint of frustration, only a service mind. The food was excellent, I could have eaten another dozen oysters. I felt the prices were more than fair for the level of food and service. Bar service was good and well stocked. A great compliment to a great evening.

We go here repeatedly!

By janrichwil |

This is a restaurant that we visit again and again. The reason is excellent food. We have never been disappointed. Great services. Wonderful location. The entire menu from appetizers to dessert is delicious! Great prices! And the service--the nicest wait staff you will ever meet!

Best oysters ever!

By 232leslij |

We waited 45 minutes to get seated, but it's well worth the wait. Best oysters ever! Shrimp was great, too! Pass on the fish. It wasn't as good as the oysters and shrimp.

The best seafood anywhere

By Walter D |

I've eaten seafood on both coasts and all along the gulf Coast, but no place makes seafood as good as S & D. You just can't go wrong.

Flounder

By Joe K |

love the fresh flounder - prepared at your table to enjoy - relaxed atmosphere - easy parking off McKinney Avenue.

Pass unless you want fried food

By 4NY2VA |

Hubby and I are puzzled about the high ratings except maybe we should have ordered fried seafood. We both ordered broiled fish (grouper and snapper) and felt that both dishes were slightly overcooked and lacked flavor unless you consider sitting in a pool of butter flavorful. There is no option to order any sides of vegetables - except if you think coleslaw is a side (no greens of any sort). The slaw was not good - a tad sweet and watery. Bowl of gumbo was okay. We spent $77 on just okay food. The highlight was an attentive server and friendly waiters. And we were able to get a table at 8 on a Saturday (Shell Shack had a line out the door and we ended up here instead).

Great seafood in a great locatoin

By LarryGentry |

I was in Dallas visiting friends and they took me to S & D Oyster Co for the first time. I lived in D/FW for years but had never heard of it before. I'm not a coleslaw person normally but theirs is delicious--finely minced cabbage and celery. Great hush puppies. I had the fried shrimp which was delicious. They have an outdoor area that's very nice and will probably ask to sit out there next time I visit. The indoor dining is comfortable and traditional with high ceilings and lots of natural light.

Good Food, Short Staffed

By Tyler |

We waited 30 min for a patio table while half the patio was wide open.... Manager said it was a waiting area, yet I saw no one waiting. Not sure if they're short staffed or if it's a new ownership decision, but having half of the nicest patio in Dallas closed on a beautiful Saturday is just bizarre and bad management. When we were finally sat the food was great.

Oysters Galore!

By TheBlondeGrape |

My husband and I love oysters, in particular raw oysters. So when we came across this place that oyster shells filling in the pot holes in their parking lot, we knew we were headed in the right place. Oysters are reasonably priced, good size and they make the sauce for you right at the table custom to your liking. Also really liked the gumbo. Rum Punch good as well but perhaps a little too much grenadine, but that is me. Located in a neat area in downtown D.

The ONLY place in Dallas for raw oysters!

By frog52016 |

When we are craving raw oysters, light fried shrimp, gumbo and definitely lemon pie.... Our car goes on auto pilot to S & D. Old Dallas charm and some of the same waiters from when my husband went there as a child. Yum.

Still Fantastic after All These Years

By Yippie-Yi-O |

Wow, I love this place! The atmosphere feels the same as when it opened. I especially enjoy visiting long established Dallas restaurants that I enjoyed with my family as a teen. The fried shrimp was delicious. The red aprons are a standout and service is superb.

FIRST TIME DINING HERE

By B C |

Good seafood for the price! Service was fair, although our waiter was not friendly. Ample parking for this location.

Exceptional Oysters

By Chellegallo |

Great casual lunch with family, the oysters are always fresh shucked and very reasonably priced. Tableside cocktail sauce preparation, paired with cold beer and great shrimp dishes. Had the gumbo, and golden fried shrimp. French fries are hand cut and the bread pudding is a perfect close to a great meal. This restaurant has been going strong for 42 almost 43 years because it’s great food!

S & D Oyster Co

By Tim R |

This is New Orleans style seafood in Dallas. There is a wide variety of seafood on the menu from gumbo to oysters, fish fried and grilled. Also lots of beer on tap. It has been in business for many years and recently expanded to a new dining room in the back. The service is consistently good, also a touch of NOLA style in their costume and attitude - friendly but all business. Prices are on the high side but the excellent food makes up for that.

Consistently best Oysters

By CMYKirk |

Some of the best fresh fish in Dallas, and it becomes really awesome with a dozen oysters as an appetizer. I'll usually do a broiled version of their daily special... or the Grouper. They will prepare cocktail sauce for the oysters from scratch at the table so if you want to learn how to make the best at home, pay attention. Simple ingredients almost everyone has at home (except maybe the horseradish). I usually get my fried fish up McKinney Ave a little further at Hook, Line and Sinker, but S&Ds is a bit classier and I like the broiled versions better here. And you typically can't beat their oysters. S&DS has been in Dallas a long time and for good reason. The wait staff have all been there a good while and know how to take care of their customers. A little pricier but worth it for the food and service.

Oysters

By David S |

What a fantastic experience! The service was excellent! Very attentive to our needs and knowledgeable. My wife loved the oysters. Very clean and and well prepared. The table side sauce was a treat as well. Perfectly executed for her taste. The only thing we did not care for was the coleslaw. No fault of their‘s, just a version we do not like. We will definitely come back the next time my wife is craving oysters!

The Best

By wkeller4 |

This place is consistently delicious. I have eaten oysters in so many places, and these are by far my favorite. The oysters and plump and full of flavor. The menu is relatively simple, and it is perfect the way it is. Try the tomatoes with the Matagorda sauce. That and a plate of oysters, the shrimp cocktail, and you're set. This place is amazing.

Best Seafood & Service in Dallas

By Guydean |

You owe it to yourself to visit S & D! Iced tea on crushed ice. The best cole slaw you've ever tasted. Fried shrimp and oysters (or on the half-shell) are without equal. Before you leave, you must try their lemon pie! Graham cracker crust with baked meringue. Best of all is the attentive service you'll receive.

Oyster disappointment in Dallas

By azad-musafir |

This place seems to position itself as a no frills seafooder with a simple menu of oysters and fried fish. Unfortunately simple has to be accompanied by super fresh which I didn’t get. I was -panning to have a big meal as super hungry but left after hardly finishing my oysters. More than one were fishy. The Bloody Mary was great though. But not enough to make up.

Family Birthday Dinner at S&D Oyster Co

By Texanbybirth |

Good service, good food--not great, but pretty good. We enjoy the patio seating on a nice evening, preferable to the bad acoustics (noisy) interior of restaurant. Not a quiet restaurant, but on the patio is good for a couple or intimate dinner. For the price, you can find better menu, but this is a Dallas standard.

Great Place

By Scott N |

My wife, daughter, son-in-law, and granddaughter ate dinner here Saturday night, Aug. 10. I haven’t eaten here for several years. S & D remains my favorite seafood restaurant in Dallas. The food is excellent and the service is impeccable. My daughter has relocated to the area so I anticipate going to S & D nearly every time we visit her!

Still One of The Best

By MarkMM55 |

Visited S & D recently for the first time in a few years. Afterwards I was wondering why I waited so long between visits? I won't wait so long next time for certain. This is still one of the best gulf seafood restaurants in DFW. I has the flounder with French fries as a main, but srptarted with the absolutely wonderful shrimp dip. Spread that loveliness on some crackers and you will experience some gastronomical greatness. My flounder was cooked perfectly and the filet was done at the table. It is served with Coke slaw and a couple of hush puppies...and my choice of French fries (real potatoes...not frozen). Out waiter has been with S&D over twenty years as has the waitress who helped filet our flounder. We had a couple of cold draft beers and were too full to order any dessert. This is a nice casual restaurant that feels like it should be located tight on the gulf coast. It can get crowded at dinner time, but our wait was pretty much none. I would definitely recommend this restaurant...and highly at that! Visit this place folks...you will be glad you did!

Fun and Tasty Lunch Experience

By MarkMM55 |

Had a very nice lunch experience at S&D sitting on the very beautiful outdoor patio. Made us think of New Orleans and the great meals and venues we have experienced there as well. I had the broiled snapper and my wife had the broiled trout…both with cajun rice and Cole slaw. Both excellent! Also enjoyed the slaw and rice…definitely recommend the rice over the fries. We ended by splitting a slice of their lemon pie..I wish that I had a whole slice fore myself. Yes, it was that good! Service was excellent and friendly..not rushed at all, but we were checked on often to see if all was well. We both felt the service added to our positive experience. Would definitely recommend S and D Oyster Company.

Great Oysters!

By orlandofoodlover18 |

The service here is incredibly friendly. The oysters were amazing. Seemed so fresh. The gumbo was also good. Has a great old school vibe. Definitely worth a try!

Conversation and Dinner

By Sid F |

Great oyster bar. Good oysters. Custom oyster sauce. Easygoing like beach oyster bars. Plan to be there again soon!

Small town feel. In Big D

By Hensaustin |

Food and service were very good. Portions appear to be small but sides are served in separate dishes and you will not leave hungry. We were not rushed eating and received our bill quickly when we asked for it. Very little street parking but they have two small reserved FREE parking lots about a block and a half from their entrance. Prices are reasonable.

Sad

By rmann |

Reading reviews you get the idea these folks can cook, or at least deliver great simple fare. Not so. The food's no better than your average road house. With young chefs putting real effort into their work, and great food becoming more common, there is no reason to go to a place that can't deliver.

Good enough for last man to walk on moon

By Daniel R |

In town for conference wanted oysters read Eugene Cernan last man to walk on moon and Purdue grad and I coach at Purdue no brainer to try it! Oyster house feel as you walk in square room red and white checkerboard table clothes on cafeteria style table a look that it could get messy good when food comes. Out back a cool outdoor courtyard so ing area but I chose to sit at bar because bartender looked seasoned. 2 dozen oysters(their dozen price less than half high end Dallas restaurants charge for 6) later and a broiled red snapper(allow 25 min prep time) local beer great cocktails good conversation with bar tender! Eugene cernan for it right! A taste of new Orleans in Dallas also I heard Pete fountain and other new Orleans jazz types on the background music! A bonus! And one more thing how does ordinary slaw taste so extraordinary! Wow!

Great place for a casual dinner

By taitaihk |

We nearly always pay a visit to the S & D Oyster Co when we’re in Dallas. It’s lovely sitting outside on the terrace with a glass of wine and a plate of shrimp or oysters. The menu never changes, always reliable, freshly prepared fish and seafood. The shrimp and fresh oysters to start were delicious, and my fried snapper also. I love their signature coleslaw which accompanies their mains. Friendly staff who seem to know just when you need a refill!

Awesome fish

By E.A2017 |

This was my first time at S&D Oyster and I loved it . Service was excellent. My fish was cooked to perfection and very tasty.

Excellent Seafood Dinner

By E… |

First time to eat here. Food and service was great. Casual dining atmosphere yet very upscale food and service. Must try the lemon pie. You won’t regret eating here. Definitely plan on coming back.

Love it!!!!!!

By Ashley B |

One of my favorite places!!!!!!!!! Love the setting, the food, the service...everything about this place. Been coming here for decades!

A pure slice of heaven!

By ScottAfghanistan |

I could write a book about how much I enjoyed this experience. The beer was served in a frosted mug so cold it left a slug in the beer. The raw oysters were very good as was the delicious New Orleans shrimp. The cocktail sauce was made at the table and was undoubtedly the best I've ever had! James was my waiter and the maker of the outstanding cocktail sauce. James was a consummate professional and made this experience all the better. Highly recommended and when you go, ask for James.

Great New Orleans inspired seafood

By James W |

Wife and I stopped for lunch. The oysters are amazing. My wife tried a sampler platter and I had the shrimp sandwich. Food was great and reasonably priced. Restaurant has great atmosphere and excellent wait staff.

Best oysters !

By mikeslon |

Simple...old school...straight to the point... it's all about the oysters.. the best oysters I ever tried ..better than New York and Paris ... next time I'm Dallas this is a definitely a go place !!!

40 years in business, a real jewel

By DragonFlyer2014 |

Simple decor, you can sense some consistency and the room was filled with locals who seemed to be at home. Everything in the menu appealed to us, we decided to try the sampler platter. Best choice for your first time, for desert must try lemon pie and bread pudín with bourbon. Will be back, staff was friendly and pleasant and our waiter Carlos was amazing.

Excellence again and again and again

By AJV901 |

We’ve been here numerous times over the years. Consistently awesome. Many employees have been here 25+ years. They just know how to do it. The oysters this weekend were the best ever. Fried shrimp like no other. The real hidden gem is the lemon pie ... it’s unbelievable.

The freshest seafood, but disappointed

By shalanda m |

This place has some of the best reviews regarding, food and service online. So I was very excited to dine here. I just left the restaurant and don't know if I'll return. The seafood was so fresh. The gumbo was some of the best I've had. The lemon pie was D-licious! However the service I received was terrible. The receipt says the servers name was John. I usually tip 20% when I dine out. I just could not do it this time. The service was just that bad. I thought servers were suppose tip introduce themselves, he did not. I thought servers were suppose to make sure you like the food, he did not. He barely said a word to me our my cousin. There was a middle aged guy that was working the bar that asked, "how's everything here?" At the end of the day, we were not happy with our server or service.

Not an Oyster Bar--simply a restaurant

By Gary D |

First off: This is not an oyster bar. Sure, there's a bar at which you can get oysters. But you can only get one kind, and they are big & unexceptional. Not the selection from around the continent that I expect from an "oyster bar." I found the food to be mediocre, but the service to be top-shelf. I sat and laughed with the bartender and servers while drinking some really good wine. And the service is the reason this place earned three stars. I will find another oyster bar the next time I'm in town. But I may end up back at this bar afterward, for some more laughs and conversation.

Best shrimp in Dallas

By hoopsman86 |

I don’t claim to have eaten at every seafood joint in Dallas, but I can now say my search is over. All I want is fried shrimp and S&D know what they are doing. Better than anything I’ve had in Big D or on the gulf. Professional staff provide impeccable service to go along with the great food. This is a can’t miss place when we visit the Metroplex.

New Orleans authentic flavor 😋

By cgsolomong |

New Orleans authentic flavors. The lump crab cake, baked oysters with cheese, peeled shrimp, and blackend flounder were amazing. Friendly and excellent service. We will definitely come back soon.

A New Spin on a Landmark

By Robert B |

I've been going to S&D for many years. But recently went after their new construction was completed. WOOOW! What a great new space that was added on in the back of the already busy restaurant. Matter of fact, if you get there after 6 pm your wait could be a long time. After 7.... well I hope you brought reading material or your smart phone. The service couldn't be greater! Some of the wait staff have been there longer than I've been going there. What a great experience to share with someone that is meaningful to your life or just a good place to introduce to others. The food is great - but I L O V E their fried shrimp and their crab dip. These are the two that I can't go without when I'm there. The price is just right compared to some seafood restaurants that serve "small" shrimp - but these are large, sweet and succulent delights to the palate. They have other staples that you might want to try if fried shrimp is not to your tastes. But I promise you - you won't be disappointed. (And for desert - Key Lime Pie!) Yum!

A Dallas Tradition

By lifeisverygood2 |

This restaurant is simply amazing. The minute you walk in you are greeted. The waitstaff is wonderful. Some of the waiters have probably been here for years and years. There is a lot of pride in doing a good job. Our waiter was impeccable, which made our meal so much more enjoyable. The only seafood we've ordered are the shrimp and fried oysters. Both were really good. The gumbo is flavorful and rich. The spicy shrimp and cream cheese dip is the best. Take you time and enjoy all the wonderful delights here. And don't forget dessert - the pineapple sherbet especially is a perfect way to end the meal.

Dallas Institution

By Fred H |

I have lived in Dallas all my life and can't remember this local institution not being a part of this city. The food, atmosphere and quality of dining has stayed consistent throughout the years. Waiters are dressed formal style and deliver wonderful table service. Always love the fresh oysters on the half shell, and you can order a single bi-valve if you are not ready to commit to a full dozen or half dozen. The waiters make the best sauce in town!

Old Faithful

By Conrad M |

This seafood restaurant has been in business over 40 years that I know of and I suspect longer. Several of the wait staff have been their for almost as long. This alone speaks to the service and GOOG of his mid-priced restaurant. I almost always have fried shrimp, and my wife almost always orders the grill fish. We also like shrimp/crab dip that makes a good appetizer for 2.

Fried oyster perfection

By Tinaoa |

My husband and I ate here before a concert. The coleslaw is awesome. Fried oysters and shrimp were perfect and delicious. Everything tasted very fresh. Oysters were corn meal, hand breaded, fried just crispy. Creole rice and hushpuppies were good. I've had better gumbo but it was still good. Bread pudding was great. Service was excellent. This place is a must!

Amazing service and the best food

By Walter D |

We always make time for a meal at S & D Oyster Co. I was introduced to the great food back in the 80’s while a student at SMU. The recipes are the same, with some new ones thrown in, but for us, nothing beats a dozen on the half-shell, then comes the cole slaw, and then the fried shrimp and fried oysters. True there are plenty of restaurants serving seafood, but no one does it like these folks. I’ve eaten oysters on all 3 coasts of our country, and some in other countries. There’s simply no one that touches the perfection S&D have achieved. And the service here is always impeccable. Wonderful service and friendly staff make being in this restaurant something you should not miss.

Ya' just gotta go there!

By FlyingT757 |

We went to the S&D Oyster Co for a Marine Corps squadron reunion. There was 18 of us and the staff made everyone feel 'special'. A small private area outside, very attentive staff, with the best menu of sea food I've ever seen. Everyone found something to 'fit their fancy'. The service was first rate, the food was first rate, and the drinks were also. I will go back the next time we're in the Dallas area! And so should you.

Still a World Leader

By davidoA8446EP |

Brilliant. Simple, reliable, like decades reliable. Oysters and beer here are as good as they get and I've never ever had to spit one out! You know what I mean! Service is also just plain REAL. Great folks, long tenured great folks. Dozen bi-valves in a sauce you can trust the server to make or in my case, build one with loads of fresh lemon on the table, Worcestershire, garlic and real Filet Gumbo (aka Sasafras leaf). Next, you have to have a simple, broiled fish. Probably snapper or whatever the waiter (ress) tells you is best. It's just butter broiled, a touch of paprika on top and cooked perfectly.... every time, year after year. I've still never sat in the new expansion but it looks nice and I hear it's lovely. Great parking, nice neighborhood. Don't go eat there... I've still never had to wait and lets not ruin that, OK? I travel the world on business. Asia, EU, Middle East, Latin America and all over the US. I first ate at S&D in the late 70's or early 80's.

So fun

By Kma M |

Love this place. Great food and oysters. Location has been here for seems like forever. Love the atmosphere.

Unfortunate luncheon experience

By Ron P |

Having enjoyed the S&D over forty years, we chose this location to enjoy New Years Eve with family. My wife and I each ordered Grouper (mine broiled, hers was fried). Sadly, both meals were over cooked and dried out. Perhaps the chef is new, as while main meal was a disaster, the historic outstanding French fries have changed as well. The gulf oysters were perfect. S&D may not see us for a while.

Lunch

By Hunttextiles |

Have eaten there for years. Last two times terrible. Over cooked broiled trout and today fried shrimp that was fried to a crisp and smaller than usual. Don't know what has happened, but not good

Still 5 stars after all these years

By Bobby R |

Food, service and atmosphere was perfect, as always...just as it was about 30 years ago, when we first started going.

Great service, great meal.

By Fronterizo |

It all started when I walked in, and there was a couple from where I live and we were so happy to see each other. And then David was the perfect host. Attentive but not overbearing. The fried shrimp and French fries were wonderful, but even better the cocktail sauce. I really had a great time with my co workers. I will return!

Average, but so friendly!

By BrewCrew32034 |

We sat at the bar and ordered drinks and shared a few small plates. The shrimp and grit was just eh! I wouldn't suggest getting that again. The bartender was super friend;y though and our drinks were great! Bar was all the way in the back. Looked newer than the rest of the place.

Fantastic Dinner

By Leskind |

We just arrived in Texas and had the opportunity to have dinner in Dallas. I’ve always heard how great this place was and it was all that and more. The gumbo was delicious. We enjoyed the fried oysters and shrimp. The service was fantastic. Do not leave this place without trying the lemon pie and bread pudding with whiskey sauce. The esthetic was definitely a pleasure. There is ample parking which was surprising for a Saturday evening. We would definitely recommend coming if you get the chance.

Simple Menu with Excellent Fried & Broiled Choices

By Paul T |

The menu is limited but the entrees are done excellently and were delicious. The wait staff were attentive and very polite. Try the shrimp & cheese dip for a pleasant surprise. I have the broiled snapper, prepared perfectly. Highly recommend this casual restaurant.

GREAT SEAFOOD @ S & D's

By cajuntexas |

Had an amazing dinner in there New Patio. Great Cajun style food and service. A must stop if traveling in the Dallas Area.

A Hidden Uptown Gem

By RonnyC2723 |

This family owned seafood jewel is our favorite. No reservations required and can get crowded. But it's worth the rste. Go for the patio dinning. They specialize in New Orleans style shrimps and oyster platters. There are good seafood restaurants but none better. The restaurant appears to be 18th Century New Orleans. Very romantic, or family fun.

Louisiana Competition

By Trenda B |

What a great place. Sat in the back patio area in the Pleasant weather. Ordered a dozen oysters for an appetizer and they were very good. Our waitress even made our sauce at the table. For our entrees we had grilled fish with lump crab meat and the barbecue shrimp. We each had our own personal loaf of French bread to dip in the sauce. Even the coleslaw was delicious. The staff very courteous and friendly. We will make this a number one priority on our list while in Dallas every trip

Shrimp Cocktail

By m w |

In the West End on the McKinney Ave strip....just aa short ride on the M Trolley from the St Paul station on the DART line. Use the M Line LIVE trolley app to see exactly where the trolley is. Very good food....no oyster stew.....but a nice selection. Shrimp cocktail was great. Will be back.

I truly love this place.

By mlefler |

I've come here for years and it never disappoints. The oysters are fresh and good sized, the broiled snapper is excellent, but the gumbo is like a trip to New Orleans. Thanks again.

Such a disappointment

By Cristina E |

Went to S&D to treat our nephew to a great meal in his new hometown of Dallas. This place was recommended for great seafood. Other than delicious fresh oysters all of the food we sampled was average at best (BBQ/fried/boiled cold shrimp, soggy fries, ok bread pudding, ok gumbo. We had the worst service from an older gentleman who rushed us so much that we had our appetizer and our gumbo on the table before he even brought our drinks. When we asked him to slow it down for our entrees he said it would be at least fifteen minutes before they were served and then he brought them five minutes later. I hated to give that man a tip. Such a disappointing experience for an evening the three of us had looked forward to. I cannot recommend S&D.

Atmosphere is Everything--Almost!

By Elaine H |

The new outside patio area is darling--different levels & fun! Attentive service. Bread pudding not as good as before. Old established restaurant, popular with almost everyone.

Best raw oysters in Dallas area

By 291dannyc |

I have been going to the coast on my vacation for 45 years, and have dined at many seafood place on the Gulf coast, but S&D Oyster Co. is just as good, or better than most. The raw oysters are very fresh and good. The fried shrimp are to die for. This visit I tried the broiled whole flounder ($24.95), and dozen oysters on the half shell ($16.95), and had two beers ($9.00). The flounder was cooked to perfection, watch out for the bones, oysters were great as usual. They are kind of expensive, but I don't mind dishing out that kind of money for fresh seafood. I have been coming to this place for 25 years, and it never changes (only the prices). The building is kind of small, and the menu is kind of limited, and they are expensive, that's the reason I gave only 4 star, the food was 5 stars. Try this place out if you can afford it. Very good food.

Yummy

By Darabtrfly |

This place has been around forever. My grandparents used to come here. It’s in a historic building, the front dining room feeels super old school. The food is yummy. Mostly deep fried fish bits, but it is Texas what do you expect? The half shell oysters were good.

You have to try the bread pudding!

By kathy L |

The fried shrimp was good and both the remoulade sauce and the red sauce for the shrimp were excellent. They even had extra horseradish sauce on the table if you wanted it with even more of a kick. But, the real hit of the night was the bread pudding with bourbon sauce. Absolutely fantastic, and it's what I'll be coming back for.

Still a favorite after all these years!

By ZippyPC |

When our daughter-in-law suggested S&D for her birthday celebration we were eager to see if the “ole girl” still had it (speaking of the restaurant)! Happy to report it does! Food was fab. I had the broiled snapper. The cold slaw is the best I have had in awhile. The bread pudding ended a perfect meal! Service was very good. We enjoyed sitting outside on the terrace in a perfect corner area under the lit trees gave the feeling you are not in Dallas. It was a perfect evening to celebrate a special person in our family. Our 2 Year old granddaughter agreed! Thank you S&D for a memory maker evening!

Gumbo and Fish Loaf

By DWYANKEES |

Stopped in for lunch just before noon on a Monday afternoon. I got the second to last parking spot available. S&D is a busy place. We came for the Gumbo and we were impressed and satisfied. We then shared the Fried Grouper Fish Loaf Sandwich and an order of cole slaw. Both were very good. By the time we finished lunch the restaurant was just about full. The parking lots were both full when we left. I can see why S&D is a favorite. We will back soon.

Excellent food, service, and atmosphere

By Dylan T |

The food is incredible at S&D. BUTTER SAUCE. Also all the weight staff is extremely experienced and "seasoned" in the best way. All the fish entrees are great.

Best fried shrimp & awesome new courtyard!

By tmustangp |

One of our favorites -- new outside courtyard was thoughtfully added & perfect!! Service is impeccable. Fried shrimp po-boy (aka shrimp loaf) is the best -- says a lot considering I grew up on the Gulf Coast! Cole slaw and lemon pie are both a must! Love how the main dining area, long-term waitstaff, & awesome food are so consistent on an ever-changing McKinney Avenue!

Awesome!!!!

By Cheryl T |

AWESOME!!! We've been going here for 35 years. Incredible food and service. Ever a bad meal. Love S&D!

Great place to eat outside in Patio

By DZook |

I was looking for a place where my wife and I could celebrate our anniversary. We asked to be seated out in the patio. And when though it was warm, their fans kept us cool and it was a delightful place to eat. Food was great. My wife had the grief shrimp and I had the broiled trout. Both were delicious. Service overall was good. My only complaint was that they didn't fill our water glasses as frequently as I like. But other than that, it was a wonderful place to celebrate our 34th Anniversary. The parking was convenient and the attendant was very helpful and friendly. Definitely would recommend it.

Quick stop

By Kurt K |

We stopped in while walking around the area on Monday night. We needed a quick drink and something to eat. The service was very good and the food we had was delicious. Great place to drop in.

Quaint and Delicious

By Karen D |

We always feel like we are in New Orleans when dining here. The oysters are always plump and delicious and it is always a special treat when the waiter makes the cocktail sauce table side! The gumbo is rich and hearty. I also like the fried shrimp plate. We like everything on the menu here and the quaint atmosphere turns the meal into a dining experience.

Great Food, Relaxed atmosphere, Long time Favorite, just keep going back

By Donald W |

I have eaten there since 1977. Have never had a bad meal. They are famous for their Oysters on the half shell. (I do not eat them but they serve a lot of them while we are there). We always have B. A.’s Spicy Shrimp & Cream Cheese Dip, we think it is excellent. We usually have the fried shrimp, very light batter and you can actually taste the shrimp, not just batter. At the visit we had the Broiled Snapper Filet, When Available Fresh, and they had it. We often eat their Broiled fish, it is always great. The atmosphere is open, service is always excellent and the food it always great. Will return again

Good Nola themed Dinner

By Will H |

We came here and met my sister since she works a few blocks away. This place was perfect for me since I’m from Nola; it’s like a taste of home. Our waiter was very attentive and the food and drinks was most superb. They have a cute courtyard area as well; we were seated by the windows overlooking the courtyard area and cool October breeze was blowing in with a hint of jazz musics playing in the night. Definitely plan on coming here.

Great atmosphere!

By Yvonne S |

In Dallas for the weekend and was in the Uptown area and drive past S&D Ouster Co and decided to have dinner there. We parked in their parking lot a block behind the restaurant. There is an attendant on duty and a lead ant stroll to the establishment. The atmosphere really reminded us of NOLA and everyone was having a wonderful time and conversations were flowing freely. We were quickly greeted and seated. The menu was interesting and we saw many platters of oysters on the half sheep being devoured but we opted for fried shrimp, the crab Maison loaf and the oyster loaf. The shrimp and crab loaf (think poor boy) came with Coke slaw and the oyster loaf with an order of fries. The serving sizes were light considering the price. The food was good but not extraordinaire but when coupled with the overall experience it was pleasant and we were glad we tried it. The highlight was the St Thomas Rum Punch. That alone was worthy of a second visit!

A trip to New Orleans

By culehmann |

We stopped by at 11 am on a Saturday. The place looks like it was transported directly from NOLA and the waiters look like they have been working there since the 60s. The gulf oysters were large and meaty and delicious. The Bloody Marys were delicious with celery and a pickled green bean. Certainly a repeat.

Seafood at a decades old restaurant in Dallas now average.

By Jim D |

We have frequented S&D Oyster Co. since the late 1060's. Has always been great but not exceptional New Orleans type fare. Sad to say, this time was only average. We had (1) Seafood Combo, (1) Dinner Salad, (1) Cup of Seafood Gumbo which was good but also had sausage in it, (1) Manager's Sampler which had one bit of everything on the menu. Total cost was $63.10 with the tip. May be a long time before we return based on this visit. Maybe others will have better results.

Absolutely my favorite restaurant

By Christy B |

I have had baked fish and I have had the fried shrimp and oysters - all excellent. The food is always as good as your remembered it. I have been going to S&D's for over 30 years. I or one of my family members has tried pretty well everything there and it is all excellent. Every time my husband wants to take me somewhere special we go to S&D Oyster Co.

Oasis on McKinney

By brennan |

S&D oyster company is a pleasant environment with friendly and helpful staff! The food is great and the atmosphere is wonderful. They raw oysters are delicious and the cocktail sauce is made fresh with each order! This is the best place to go when the weather is perfect. The back patio is beautiful and closed off from the noise of the uptown area.

A Real Treat

By 0000aabbcc |

As the name indicated it is a place to go for great oysters and served in several different ways. My delight is the fresh raw ones.

Truly NOLA

By Cmp1130 |

This is a very nice place, the gumbo was the best I have ever had outside of New Orleans. Thick roux base with okra, sausage and shrimp. The remoulade sauce was very, with the limp cake meat. Fried red snapper, hush puppies and fresh French fries. Great food.

Wonderful

By HNBISOFF |

S & D oysters was delightful and extremely good. The hush puppies were wonderful. The selections were very nice and portions were plentiful. A nice meal.

Love this place!

By Julie A |

My husband says the oysters are the best! I usually eat the gumbo, which is really good (tastes a lot like what my Cajun family in La makes). Outside, they have a beautiful courtyard which has such a romantic ambience. Overall, a little pricey (which is expected in Uptown), but great food and a nice dining experience!

The same thing every time...

By Craig M |

That’s what I have every time I go! Oysters on the half shell, the Oyster Loaf, Cole Slaw and Lemon Pie! It’s that good! Every time I go! I’ve been going for 25 years, I love S&D and they are a family favorite too!

My husband and I were in Dallas the other day and decided to go here for lunch. In the late 80s and early 90s I worked in Dallas and the company I worked for treated us a few times a year to lunch here and we went on a few dates here as well. We were curious if it was still around. We were very happy to find that it was. It was excellent then and it is excellent still today. What struck me the most was the wait staff. Our waiter was beyond excellent and has been working there for 25 years. A lot of the wait staff has a long history with this restaurant and they take great pride in their job. In that regard it was a refreshing and wonderful experience. The food— well the food is just as incredible. It was just like I remembered it. Fresh and very delicious! You must try the cole slaw! We hope to be in the area more often because it’s definitely worth it!

Best Cole Slaw Ever

First visit here although it certainly won't be our last. Oysters perfect, cold slaw fabulous and excellent gumbo. Opened in the 70's. The wait staff retires from here so that tells you something about those running the fantastic eatery. Excellent, friendly service.

Great fresh seafood

Loved this spot in uptown Dallas. A historic building from the early 1900’s hosts this fine shrimp and oyster establishment. We enjoyed cold beer, boiled shrimp (cold), and a dozen oysters with a great side salad with 1000 dressing. Yum. I would come here again and again and again. Simple decor all about the food!

Excellent service and wonderful food

This was my first time S & D Oyster Co and I went there with a small party. The waiter recommended the Manager's Sampler platter which had a cup of Gumbo, a fried shrimp and oyster, a cold boiled shrimp and oyster on the half shell along with coleslaw and shrimp salad. Also included was piece of fried trout. An excellent meal well prepared and a great way to sample most of the menu at once. My date had the fried oysters and two other people had the red snapper - everything was excellend and well prepared/ It was better than many of the restaurants i have eaten at in New Orleans!

S & D has been one of our favorites for years. We used to drive over an hour to eat here now only 30 minutes but still the drive is worth every minute. Oysters breaded perfectly, fresh fries, cold beer, service with a smile....what more can you ask for?

Fresh oysters and shrimp in great setting

Our first time. Apparently been in operation for 40 years. A great example of choosing to do a few things, very well. The menu is very straightforward with oysters and shrimp being the centerpiece. The patios in uptown Dallas was delightful. We ordered a half dozen of oysters in the half shell, and other half grilled. Both were delicious. Wife had crab maison on mixed greens for her main course (1/2 order). It was plenty. I had the fried shrimp. It was all really straightforward but really fresh, prepared well and presented in a lovely environment. Great place for a date night or family event. Felt safe with regard to Covid. Masks were worn by staff and customers while not seated.

1st visit since 1977 - still great oysters/ seafood

Revisiting an old friend. Love fresh oysters & when not traveling to gulf-coast, I could always count on S&D to fill the void. On this visit - 40 yrs later - happy to report that these guys have not lost a step ... still great, fresh seafood, plump salty big fresh raw oysters (caveat: this place is close to SMU, so S&D has added a few "Biff & Tiffani from frat/sorority house row"-favorites ... you know - raw oysters with kale/strawberry truffle pecan reduction sauce served with goat cheese ... regardless of this travesty, S&D has generally, thankfully, stayed true to their seafood heritage), decent Cajun fare (surprisingly, their gumbo is terrific - hard dish for even the Cajun masters to master), in pleasant surroundings, and reasonably priced. Fun place/pleasant atmosphere to-boot. BooRah. Net/net: got a lot of good seafood at good bang-for-the-buck here in the 70's ... & they still deliver-the-goods. Good for them. Nice to see old fashion good food/service @ a fair price's still around.

Our favorite New Orleans style seafood and oysters. Absolutely love the Shrimp Dip as a starter and the Red Snapper is exceptional smaller and tastier fish filet done to perfection. Enjoy the bread pudding as a dessert!!!

Try the oysters .. they're the best in the city

Classic NOLA dining in the original dining room but nice decor in the new area. Oysters are always fresh and crisp. Get the server to make your cocktail sauce for a real flavor blast!

I have been dining here since my arrival in 1968. Great seafood, impeccable service, and a New Orleans ambiance.

Great Service And Food

Went there on a Saturday afternoon and was very surprised on all levels. The service from start to finish was excellent. The waiter was very attentive and the oyster sauce he prepared at the table was top notch. I had raw oysters and they were fresh and very tasty along with the 1-1-1 roles and they hit the spot. My other guest had gumbo bbq shrimp and fried shrimp and all said it was very good. Looked at the courtyard area and it was very nice but maybe not in the hot months. Parking up the street a little in their own parking areas. Over all a great place.
