Nothing Special

By Mary Jo N |

We stopped here while walking along the waterfront one day. The food was ok but just nothing special considering it's right on the wharf. And I thought the prices were a little expensive considering what we got. Next time we'll try elsewhere.

Get the chowder

By Lauren p |

I found a hair in my sandwich and my man did not enjoy is linguini with meat sauce but that was the best clam chowder I’ve ever had in my life. So phenomenal i couldn’t rate it less than 4 stars even after all the other mishaps.

Fried fish at Fishermen's Wharf!

By irene m |

Where to eat a typical fried fish or clam chowder if not at Fishermen's Wharf? And it's really great here! With tables for comfortable eating and very short waiting times.

Food quick to your table!

By Eric |

Great service, the food came out really quick after the order and it was delicious. The bread 🥖 was really tasty, great way to open a lunch.

Nothing special

By mschorr |

The food was fine. Nothing special nor memorable. It was convenient and we sat inside which was better than outside at a picnic table covered in bird poop. Service was good.

Authentic Wharf expe3rience

By MO8ball |

Old time Fisherman's Wharf restaurant. Oysters were good. Whole fried clams were a new experience but good. Serving sizes were adequate. Inside is dated.

Without infamy and without praise

By Aldo |

Very hearty dishes. Too much. Consider sharing a portion in two people. Friendly staff. Quick Service. Location on the bay.

Cheerful service, Right Price, mild disappointment

By Ogden R |

Walked in early dinner time on an off season Friday without a reservation, as a single. At my choice I supped at the bar. The Barman was cordial and attentive, providing me with a beer, bread, and a menu immediately upon request. Looking to try the local "specialties" I ordered a cup of the New England Clam Chowder and a shrimp salad sandwich on sourdough. Soup starter cam quickly as advertised and piping hot (with ample warning I might add). This was a thick, robust chowder with a hearty portion large chopped clams. Well done. The shrimp salad sandwich was a disappointment. Expecting nice cuts of thick shrimp, in a robust dressing, I was met with a typical shrimp salad made with a large portion of baby shrimp suspended in a thin and weak dressing. Certainly a meal, but nothing to write home about. The Barman gets a good tip, as service was spot on. But nothing to really send back to the kitchen by way of compliment.

Good Food, Good Atmosphere, Efficient Service

By Craigside |

This place is on Fishermans Wharf, looks like it's been here a long time from the old days of fishermen and traders etc... very busy and bustling, we got a table after a short wait. Efficient friendly waiter service, excellent fresh food, superb clam chowder, fresh seafood, etc. Fair prices, would recommend for the seafood.

First class

By Annie L |

Found this small restaurant on Fishermans Wharf first night we arrived. We were all very hungry after travelling and were not disappointed with the size of the meals. With every main course you got a shrimp salad or small bowl of clam chowder and bread and butter, you could upgrade the chowder to a larger bowl for a few dollars more or even a bowl made of sour dough. The chowder was divine, certainly the best we had in San Francisco, so much so we went back another night. The main courses were primarily fish which you expect in its location but there was other dishes available. Our party of 4 had fish and chips, seafood pasta, and two red snapper. All excellent. The second visit we had fish and chips, seafood pasta, a meat pasta and the chefs seafood platter, which comprised of various fish and seafood battered and fried. Again all excellent. Service was very good and friendly even though they were very busy. Would highly recommend.

Delectable food, Excellent service

By Zam✓ |

Had the Seafood pasta, was based in a tomato sauce and served with juicy clams, squid and mussels. Our waiter, Bing, took good care of us, clearing up tables really quickly and getting the food to the table swiftly. Excellent restaurant in Pier 39, San Francisco. Will definitely recommend.

Hidden gem behind the walk up!

By malpal |

I did not want to stand at a walk up ... much to my surprise, this place has a small dining room! We told our server we had just this much time --- he assured us he could get our food to us and out the door on time for our evening bus tour. I ordered fish and chips and iced tea. My friend ordered a lobster roll. Both just perfect. My fish was cooked to perfection --- seriously, it even tasted like fish - not a fried something or other ya get sometimes when ordering fried fish. The price was right too. I loved everything about this place. Hidden gem for sure.

Horrible food!!

By ChristinaAMissouri |

I love Italian and seafood, but this was the WORST of both I've ever had. Crab Cake appetizers were so bland and did not taste good at all. Who messes up on Fettucine Alfredo?? - Had the fettucine alfredo with shrimp and mushrooms and it was the WORST I've had. I've eaten this dish everywhere from Little Italy to Olive Garden to my own kitchen with jar sauce, and this was terrible. It didn't taste at all like alfredo, more like a white sauce that had too much corn starch. The noodles weren't even good. It was a complete waste of money.

The best little intimate restaurant on the wharf

By Skip H |

Don't waste your money eating at Pier 39. Go to Sabella & La Torre- eat at the bar or in a booth- GREAT FOOD- a tad expensive but all FRESH- Crab Louis, Clam Chowder, Calamari, all very good- 50+ years and exactly the same- the menu still has a fish that opens his mouth when you look inside VERY RETRO

Classic Fisherman’s Wharf seafood eatery.

By Mario G |

It is difficult to choose a seafood restaurant from the different alternatives available in the Fisherman’s Wharf of San Francisco. We selected the Sabella & Latorre because the menu outside the entrance included a couple of items that we noticed even though other restaurants probably offered similar options. The flavor, quantity and price of everything we ordered did not disappoint us, while service was very attentive and efficient.

Fisherman's wharf Fish

By Jim McMahon |

Was looking for good seafood as we are from Chicago and it is hard to come by. Found this little gem. The clam chowder was delicious. Everything was fresh and delicious. No fishy taste which is dead five away whether it is legit or not. I had fish and chips. Delicious. My wife had the crab sammy cold and loved it. Would definitely come back on next vacation.

Good food.

By Kelvin |

This is one of a few places that have outdoor and inside eating options. We got a takeaway option and sat at the tables outside. We had a clam chowder in a bread bowl and calamari - both were very good. We’d recommend this as a casual and easy option for a meal for anyone. Good food.

Hot Clam Chowder in a Bowl

By kpounds26 |

We came here around 10.30am and decided to do this San Fran Staple for breakfast. Huge portions of creamy, hot, salty, fishy goodness served in a giant sourdough bowl - what more could you want. They even give you the bready middle of the bowl to dip into the chowder. Couldn't finish it but my it was good- Im salivating thinking about it now. Maybe because it was first thing in the morning it was fresh too... Also remember this is hearty, sloppy fisherman's food, not nouvelle cuisine, so dont expect something served by with fois gras, expect chunks of fish and loads of cornflour.

Fresh and delicious seafood

By Gene P |

The restaurant is on the sidewalk at fisherman’s wharf. We accidentally found this place when we saw locals lining up for tables. The staff were accommodating and polite such as Kevin and Bing. We ate clam chowder and lobster tail. My children ordered steak and lobster. All were nicely cooked and the seafood very fresh. It was good that we came back with the rest of our group after two days.

Good place to get a drink and a bite

By robertA2153OX |

Sabella Latorre is hidden between many other places on the pier. It has good food and the bar tender was great. We had chowder, crab cakes and a large plate of fried clams plus 4 drinks for under $63 plus tip.

The chowder is excellent

By D4379 |

Went to Sabella and La Torre last night for dinner. We ordered the mussels that came with either a salad or chowder. We both chose the chowder. The chowder came out hot and so thick the spoon would stand up in it. Plenty of clam meat and very tasty. The mussels came in a broth that tasted a lot like chicken, a little bland. Though well cooked they were on the small side and not a large serving. The bread that came with the meal was delicious super hard crust, soft inside. For the money a decent meal and I would not hesitate coming again.

Great food and atmosphere

By JanesMom13 |

This is a small restaurant, sitting right on fisherman‘s wharf. There is an outside, Takeaway area, and a great restaurant inside with terrific ambiance. The ciapinno and crabcakes were out of this world! If you like a quiet, relaxing atmosphere, this is not the place for you. If you want a restaurant full of life and love, try this.

Traditional Fisherman's Wharf Restaurant with Delicious Seafood

By RuthSteveFlorida |

There are many restaurants in the Fisherman's Wharf area so it's difficult to choose one. I'm glad I chose Sabella's twice during my recent visit. The calamari steak is special because it's so tender. The clam chowder is hearty and tasty. I also really enjoyed the crab linguine. The service is excellent and friendly. I didn't try the take out but there were a lot of people taking away meals. There are stools in the take-away area for quick meals.

Far from the best on Fisherman’s Wharf-mediocre and lacking

By John E |

We decided to have an early dinner at Sabella's because it was not very crowded and they had a good rating. In addition, they had other selections on the menu for my wife who does not eat seafood. I began by ordering the Manhattan clam chowder and that was a big mistake. I was thankful I only ordered a cup and not a bowl. Their Manhattan chowder was tasteless, pasty, with no stock and some flakes of what might have been clams. I have had better out of the can, . Then, I ordered three Red Snapper Taco’s as a main course. The first two out of the three red snapper tacos I ordered were fresh, tasty and excellent. However, when I started eating the third snapper taco, I had to send it back because the snapper was almost raw. They re-cooked the snapper and I finished eating it wondering why it was not replaced with a fresh taco and new fish. Even though they just re-cooked the fish, I was actually okay with that. Their portions were reasonable but my wife’s chicken was just average. In my opinion, this seafood restaurant was a disappointment not anything to write home about - and mediocre at best. I expected much better being on the famous Fisherman’s Wharf. The service was okay-but we waited a long time for the check.

Love Love Love!!

By janluvsun |

This was my birthday weekend and we went there the entire time of our San Francisco stay. Food was amazing. We still needed our vaccination card. But this is everywhere there. Seafood was delicious. Loved sitting at the bar. If you ever visit tell Don the owner/bartender Jan and Ron said hi!!

Avoid at all costs!!!

By Phil M |

We visited on a Friday night in March. The person welcoming guests was on her phone at the bar & she said “sit where you want”. Menus were placed when we chose our table. Our server did not introduce himself but he was bald & wore glasses. Had to ask for drinks but no water was offered. Food ordered & had to chase drinks order. Food arrived but still no water. Server happily chatted with other customers while they admired each other’s tattoos but still no water or checking on how the food was. After 3 reminders, two small glasses of water arrived just as we finished our meal. Food was VERY average & overpriced. We left leaving zero tip. Avoid this place unless you really enjoy being ignored & taken for granted. May have been because we were obviously tourists and the locals were more important.

I am not a bot. Clam chowder with no clams. Clumped white broth. Sent it back. Tasteless crab cakes with minimal crab.

By Becky J |

I am not a bot. Clam chowder with no clams. Clumped white broth. Sent it back. Tasteless crab cakes with minimal crab. Worst meal in San Fran by far. Wish ratings allowed zero

Disappointing!!!

By Bill M |

I guess I should have read the reviews first; but, after California's post Covid reopening on June 15th, this was only one of 3 restaurants open on Fisherman's Wharf. Started with the clam chowder. In a word...HORRIBLE. Why you ask...well, it was flavorless. Unless, you like the flavor of flour. There was nothing in it but flour and a few and I mean a few, tiny bits of clam. Have they heard of potatoes? Worst clam chowder I ever ate. I sent it back. Next up, the entree, my wife and I both had the linguini and clams. Passable; but, we've both had much, much better. Mine had lots of butter and garlic...very oily. My wife's was dry, dry dry. Trust me, you want your wife happy after taking her to dinner. Things didn't go well for me that night. Well, you know what I mean. The best thing we had for dinner was the sour dough bread. But, it is San Francisco. If they screwed that up, then, they should be sent packing. My advice, go somewhere else for dinner.

Need Restaraunt Impossible to show up

By Nieuwendyk-25 |

We wanted to like this place but it was a huge disappointment food wise. I had the clam chowder, which had zero flavor. No seasoning whatsoever, not even salt and pepper...no crab and one potato...all "gravy". The peel and eat shrimp were good, my wife had the crab salad sandwich which was just meh. I did have a local beer that was on tap and it was good. Service was slow. The restroom was filthy, there was blood on the toilet and paper towels everywhere because the trashcan had not been emptied in a while. Sorry, but I cannot recommend this place.

Seafood in the open air of Fisherman’s Wharf

By GoatMom19 |

We have visited San Francisco for many years when traveling from the east coast of the US to Asia. We stopped at the outdoor stall and met Carlos, a very cheerful man who seems to remember everyone he meets while serving up the delicious San Francisco seafood, to try crab rolls, and have returned to visit him for lunch on every trip through San Francisco since. The seafood is fresh and delicious, whether prepared as a salad or fried. The service is great. We visited during the past two days after not visiting for four years. Carlos was still there with his smile and his service and the food was still fresh and delicious!

Fish Crab Shrimp

By Mascarenhas1972 |

This restaurant never fails in quality and selection of food. Our first stop every time we visit San Francisco. Clam chowder in a sour dough roll is special. Crab cakes and lobster, prawn salad, all sorts of pasta dishes with seafood, mussels the list is long. They have a stall outside if you want to grab and go with your lunch.

Drop by if you're in the area!

By terenceleezy |

No one goes to the beautiful city of San Francisco, without visiting Fisherman's Wharf! It's teeming with life, what with the street performers, squawking seagulls and jostling tourists! I first visited Fisherman's Wharf in the summer of 2007, during my first trip to visit T, and we were bowled over by the wide range of fresh seafood there. Whatever crustacean/fish you crave for, you can find it there. As touristy as the place is, there is one thing you must do while you're there. Forget about sitting down to have your clam chowder bread bowl and whatnot; Get your seafood fix from one of the crab stands there and just stand around to eat, making anyone who walks past you drool with curiosity. That's what we did the first time, and last year, we revisited the experience when we were in the SF area. Some people are not keen on eating crab outside of home, because it's troublesome and messy I guess. But for us, we definitely have no qualms about that because we are gluttons, and gluttons don't care about keeping up appearances. So we ordered a crab (they boil it for you there), some snacks, like calamari and fries and voila, we had our lunch standing around. It's about USD12 per pound of crab, and it's worth the money because it's quite an experience. You don't get to stand around digging the meat out of a crab pincer in Singapore yeah. Also, we all know how the parking fees in SF could cost you a leg, but you could validate your parking when you dine there. Awesome! There are a few crab stands there but we always go to Sabella & La Torre. They've got fresh stuff and great service. The crab we had was juicy and yummy. Maybe it's the way we eat, attacking the crab like we've been starved for a while, but when we were there, quite a few people came up to us to ask about the crab. Or maybe we just look friendly and approachable. I would rather believe in the latter. Drop by if you're in the area!

The place to eat when in San Francisco

By Jack B |

Don our bartender was magnificent. His syggestions were spot on. Excellent, excellent, place to eat! Food is out of this world! Try the Cadillac margarita, you won’t be disappointed!

Fresh fish in a great atmosphere.

By SUZANNE T |

Down on Fisherman’s wharf, this small restaurant serves take out or sit down food. We sat in and you do have to be prepared to wait, but it’s worth it. Fresh fish served quickly and without fuss. Chowder was very good and the shrimps are great.

Best seafood in the warf

By Marco Tulio A |

We ordered mixed seafood dishes and all were great, really fast service when ordering the drinks and best customer service.

Hoped fro a great meal was average

By Neal M |

Went here for dinner, raining hard didn't want to go far, and it was average. The service was excellent atmosphere sad screaming bratty kids with parents who were oblivious, and mediocre food. Shrimp appetizer was best, ordered Sole and first dish was fishy smelling. They made a second and it was returned also. Fish and chips were like anywhere else. Been here before had a good meal but not this time.

Good waiters average food

By SebastionSt |

The food was just ok. The restaurant was cramped. The wait staff was excellent. Gina was a wealth of information and very helpful. I would return for the staff not the food.

Eeeks!

By S&R |

Wanted a quick bite before heading on a boat tour around the bay. What I got was cold greasy calamari with far too much breading. Very disappointing as I'd checked TripAdvisor before choosing to stop here. Obviously I am not a fan and would not recommend it as a place to eat.

Excellent Linguini Marinara

By MaxMidnight |

We were looking for a quick bite down by the wharf. We walked by Sabella & LaTorre's and the smell was amazing. Service was quick, food was great. I had the crab Panini sandwich and it was really good. My husband had the Linguini Marinara and it was fantastic.

Enjoyed this restaurant and it’s great service

By Brendan |

We stopped in late Monday night nothing was available but we were offered 2 counter seats we took them The man behind the bar never got his name was a friendly bloke I could not believe he was getting drink orders putting salads together, taking our orders, getting our drinks and making sure we were all ok and other customers as well were all good Our food was served entree and main for me we both tried the chowder in a roll not the best chowder I have but enjoyed it my main was New York Steak Sandwich steak was a little under done but nothing else in it come with chips and side salad it again was ok Our bartender/waiter looked after us well we enjoyed our stop prices were fair service was good

Super unimpressed by the food

By CopperLeah |

We came in our first night in the area and ordered from the sidewalk stand. We were excited for fresh shrimp and chowder (coming from Colorado, good sea food is an exciting thing for us). We were sorely disappointed. Prices were "high" but we can move past that for good food, but the quality was lackluster at best. The bread was chewy in that really bad sticky way. The chowder was less than can quality and the shrimp were overly fishy in a bad way (and the cocktail sauce seemed off as well). We would not recommend coming in. We found better places to eat just a few blocks away. I think tourists like us keep this place in business. Drat.

Yummy!!

By Irene M |

We had a great meal, generous portions and a ton of seafood in our entrees. Good price for food well served. The staff was really nice and attentive. Would definitely return and recommend.

The Place to eat on fisherman wharf

By christopher s |

The crab & shrimp is the best in the area and the staff are friendly , we visited twice on our holiday for lunch and the food was outstanding the best of the three restaurants in the area we dinned in , the cost was not over the top for the quality of seafood and fish , the restaurant was full with a very short wait for a table .

Disappointed

By Kim E |

After reading the reviews, I had high hopes for a nice seafood dinner. We chose the oyster Rockefeller as an app and was disappointed. Oysters were very small and it seemed like they put more topping to make up for it. We split an order a seafood express because we really didn’t want a whole dinner each. Very little crab, prawns were tough, and the scallops were ok. Everything tasted the same. We couldn’t end this dinner fast enough. Oh , and do not use the restroom. It was a smelly, unhygienic disaster.

Fried shrimp and French fries

By Edward N |

Possibly the worst “shrimp” I’ve ever eaten. Thick, greasy coating, soggy with oil. I peeled the coating and the “shrimp” was unrecognizable. French fries also soggy with oil. Very disappointing visit.

Excellently speedy service

By Greg |

Two Brits visiting a U.S coastal city? We have to order ‘fish and chips’! Given our nationality, we feel well-placed to review a traditionally British main course such as ‘fish and chips’, and Sabella & La Torre don’t disappoint. Although the typical long piece of battered fish or chunky triple cooked chips are found on this platter, the dish comes with thin fries and several pieces of battered fish, but each is so brilliantly freshly cooked and piping hot - so certainly different but nonetheless excellent. Our service was so incredibly prompt, professional and friendly. We were very taken with the haste at which our courses were served and the restaurant itself is, although small, traditional and cosy. Refillable soft drinks were provided and a small bowl of clam chowder as a starter too. All in all, a very good experience we’d recommend to anyone looking for a properly fresh seafood restaurant.

Absolutely Fantastic

By Lewis S |

On cruise ship arrived San Fransisco 22/02/2019. Had for years intended to return to go to sea food outlet in Fishermans Wharf and here I was. Lass on door explained the menu to me in the afternoon and her attitude made me decide to go back in the evening. This restaurant is the only original Fishermans Wharf sea food oulet still in existence and is run and owned buy the same family since circs 1927. To say it was fantastic is an understatement. Had peel and eat prawn starter then a cup of chowder then a whole Dungeness steamed crab. Crab was in first class condition when caught. I know as I am a fisherman. Staff (family members) were extmemely attentive and asked if I had any questions about the menu. Was going to have some wine but the beer (Steam Brewed) was so good I just had that. Steam brewed is a proceedure utilised from the days when refrigeration wasn’t even invented. Would recommend La Torre every time.

Flavor? Not so much.

By Jan L |

It looked like just any of the other places along fishermans wharf - about the same fare... we decided to have lunch indoors. Not worth the money. Bland and boring.

Bread Bowl Chowder

By Ken F |

We didn't go inside, we just had a Bread Bowl Chowder for lunch in front and it was great! This dish is clam chowder served in a sour dough roll. It was fresh and very hot, so by the time you're almost done the chowder is still warm. I will order it again when I'm here.

Le meilleur crabe du monde

By Sam Traveler |

Just the best crab of my life. Very fresh and tasty. Service was perfect and we had the chance to eat on the terrasse. Thanks a lot for this wonderful moment.

Delicious food

By Victoria Groucott |

What a lovely little place. We had a crab sandwich and garlic fries which was delicious. The portion sizes are HUGE you could definitely share one. The prices are a little expensive but I do think it’s worth it as the food and atmosphere is good.

Great seafood

By elindoo |

One of the seafood restaurants you’ll find along the Warf. We’ve been to San Francisco many times but never to this restaurant. To me, prices seemed quite high and since we weren’t all that hungry we ordered a combo something with scallops, shrimp and crab to split. It was quite good and had enough on it for 2 of us.

Our Favorite Place

By Janet D |

My Husband And I have been coming to this restaurant since our honeymoon in 1972. We ate here every day for our 4 day honeymoon! Now every time we are in San Francisco this is Our Place to eat!!! We will be back over and over again!! Wonderful Food and sweet memories!! Never disappointed!! We have been to many restaurants in the area but this is by far our favorite!! See you again Soon!!

Excellent food and relaxed atmosphere

By psozbirn |

The chowder in a bread bowl was excellent. Service was fast and helpful. The lady who I assumed was one of the owners came out and helped serve food when they got busy. Very friendly.

Great light lunch

By sharrongeg |

One just CANNOT visit the wharf area of San Francisco and not stop for either a cup of chowder or seafood cocktail. Adult son and I stopped in this past Wednesday afternoon and ordered a fresh crab cocktail ($15) and cup of chowder. Son said chowder was excellent and I loved my crab cocktail. Very casual outdoor seating available.

Very tasteless clam chowder

By tasteiner |

Walking along Fishermans wharf, we decided to try this place for lunch, as it looked fairly busy. Ordered the fish and chips with a cup of clam chowder. The chowder tasted like nothing more than potato soup with corn starch. The fish was good and the chips were better than average.

Unexpectedly good meal

By barb1wired |

Given where this place is located, I was expecting an over-priced, under-whelming meal. Boy was I surprised. The Mixed Grill for the hubby, garlic shrimp and crab for me. Started with so-so clam chowder. Hubby thought it was good. Mine tasted a little too much like potato chowder, not enough clam. When the entrees arrived, my plate had a nice amount of shrimp and crab legs swimming in a delicious garlic butter sauce. It was delicious. I ate every bite. Hubby enjoyed his plate as well. By the time we were done, I was really happy because my expectation has been so low. So often when you stop and eat in a touristy location, you end up with an expensive, bland "meal". It was so nice to visit a touristy-place and get such a tasty, well made meal. We would definitely try this place on another visit to San Francisco.

Amazing crab

By Robin B |

Hands down the best crab we’d had in 30 years. We enjoyed crab cakes and clam chowder as well. Their sourdough bread comes from a local bakery and it was great too.

Great lunch

By RichardN28 |

We stopped inside for Clam Chowder in the sourdough roll. It was delicious and the service was excellent. I'd come back here again.

Rubbish

By Brenda A |

We went there on recommendation and we were very very disappointed. No room on table and we had a family on next table being very very loud complaining for at least half an hour !!! It totally spoilt our visit. To end it all he good was awful . My son ordered snapper and he is quite a co issuer of fish it was tasteless. My partner and I had fish and chips it was awful we did not eat it . Do t go there

Crab cocktail

By Dian B |

The crab itself was pretty good, but a little salty. Most disappointing was that there was a bit of liquid in the bottom of the cup. The cocktail sauce was very tasty. I just had fresh cracked crab in Phoenix and it was better than this. The sourdough French bread was pretty mediocre. Basic wine list, moderate wine prices, small pours.

Normal restaurant

By Jonathan G |

We ate there by chance, some Roman-style calamari that wasn't bad, some crab sandwiches that didn't tell me anything, and a pasta with seafood that wasn't bad either. Correct food in a slightly overwhelming dining room

Delicious local, fresh seafood!

By Melissa N |

This is a restaurant adjacent to Fisherman’s Wharf. We ordered the fried calamari as an appetizer and it was delicious! It was served with lemon slices, cocktail sauce and a lemon dill sauce. It was lightly fried and crispy. Then we shared the grilled Cajun snapper which is served with fresh grilled vegetables and rice. We swapped out the rice for double vegetables. The snapper was tender and flaky. The Cajun seasoning was just a little spicy without being overwhelming. There is a beer and wine menu, which we ordered from as well. Every table was full when we walked by and so we knew it would be good! Go and enjoy!

Morning snack

By golan s |

I have taken an Uber ride from my hotel to the fisherman warf and wanted to try some of the seafood staff This place looked more inviting and I first stayed outside and ordered 4 oysters which were very good After I entered the restaurant and asked for a lobster role sandwich to go and I have taken it to the Yerba buena place and sat in the sun to eat The role was excellent and came also with very good French fries Was not cheap (11 dollars for the oysters and 26 for the role) but it was worth it

Hidden Gem

By CorazonOhio |

My hubby and I visited here after biking across the Golden Gate bridge ( so hard !!), anyway we were looking around Fisherman's Wharf for a good filling meal and ALMOST passed this place up because from the outside it looks like a food stand...and we desperately needed to sit down ! So I got on trusty Yelp and saw that there was seating... we just had to find it !! Just walk on back and believe me it opens up into a cute restaurant ! I had Clams and Linguini and I loved it. My husband got oysters and he loved his too. The service was good and we would recommend this place. I gave it 4 stars since it is deceptive in its appearance - too easy to pass up since it looks like a stand up food stand.

The Lobster Roll

By mcorozco129 |

My friend and I ordered the crab sandwich and the lobster roll to share, the sandwich was good but the lobster roll was absolutely fantastic. There is a fine variety of seafood and seems to be a very traditional place in fisherman’s wharf.

Good one, try once!

By mu’awiah |

This is a good restaurant, serves many kinds of Seafoods, we tried the Lobster sandwich and a cocktail dish of Calamari & Shrimps, overall it’s nice but for the price you pay it’s regular, you can try and judge 😇

Poor Service and Poor Clam Chowder

By ET76 |

It's been a long time since my last visit to this restaurant and my last visit! My overall experience was poor! We ordered the clam chowder soup and it was poor! It was watered-down and very little clams in the soup! The sourdough bread was 10 times better! Our waitress was bad! Not friendly or helpful! Not once did she checked on us! The clam chowder was overpriced for what we got! We won't be coming back or remember this place.

Very good cioppino!

By Lucalassio |

I'm went here for a lunch, vintage place but I thought would have a good lunch and so it was. Very good crab cocktail and the cioppino.

OK lunch one day while wandering around

By MNOAKS |

We tried this place for lunch one day while wandering around. We felt like we were intruding when we tried to get a table and the service was not the fastest. The place felt a little dated like they maybe hadn't changed the menu ever. The food was just OK. Nothing memorable.

Dinner date

By Josie A |

Great customer service, the staff is so friendly and the food is delicious. We met Erwin and he recommended the calamari, it was good and cooked just right. A must stop on fisherman’s wharf.

Good and plenty of food at Fisherman's Wharf

By Stellan D |

Nice seafood dishes at reasonable prices. Servings are big but not too big to make you need a doggy bag.

Amazing seafood and recommendation

By Vancaus |

After having tried many crab places, this one is a MUST GO. Extremely fresh, well cooked and super tasty to become an amazing dinner. Excellent service and recommendation from Jan-Paolo who made this moment an unforgettable experience.

Disappointing

By Jill P |

I was really looking forward to a good fish meal in the Fisherman's Wharf area, but didn't get one. As a solo diner I was asked if I would like to perch on a bar stool, but said that I'd prefer a table, so I ended up next to the loos. The service was very fast, I was left in no doubt that the idea was to get me served & out as fast as possible. I had a glass of Pinot Grigio "whilst you decide what you want to order" which was not nice, no crisp dry taste, (but is that American Pinot Grigios?) so I left most of it, however the bread was OK. A cup of thick gloopy chowder came with the meal, not nice, I've had some great chowder before, but this one was mediocre. It was followed by a crab dish: crab in more gloopy sauce (maybe same stuff as the chowder?) with parmesan on top, grilled. Again, mediocre. The vegetables were fine, just nicely al dente, & there was rice, but I really didn't want it. The overall impression was of a rather grey uninspiring meal, which I lost interest in quite rapidly. Not at all the experience that I had been hoping for.

Awesome meal at Fishermans Wharf

By Paul F |

Went looking for dinner at Fishermans Wharf and found this place in the row of restaurants. It was busy but the service could not be faulted, fast with drinks, meals quick and served together. Big meals and really tasty.

Go elsewhere

By Janice Cross |

Food was ok. Server failed to tell us lobster rolls were so cold even when we told her we've never been there and asked about various options. It was not good at all, tasted like miracle whip and cold lobster. For the $100 tab for 2 people, we could've easily gone to other restaurants actually worth the $.

Good enough.

By NomadingNick |

Food: 4/5 Service: 3/5 Cleanliness: 4/5 Decor & Style: 3/5 The Lobster rolls, Calamari, and Clam Chowder here were good, not great. The restrooms were small and slightly dirty, and the service was average. The Lobster rolls were overpriced, but I think all Lobster rolls in the world are overpriced if you're in a touristy area. I probably would not come back here to try it as there are too many other seafood restaurants around here to try something new, but I still do stand by and say the lobster rolls were good.

DELIGHTFUL!

By Dreamer50393955070 |

I just stopped in to use the restroom! Ended up staying for multiple drinks and food. The seafood and Louis salads are amazing. It well deserves its historical status. Gina the owner is lovely. We talked for a half hour before I realized she was the owner. No pretensions, super friendly and welcoming. The touristy element is overshadowed by the genuineness. I rarely write reviews, but this was worth the password retrieval morass to get it done.

Dissatisfied

By Patpet58 |

Busy fish restaurant with outside seating and an inside room. Very fast service but a little unfriendly and approximate. Clam Chowder served in the form of bread is absolutely tasteless. The overall cleanliness of the room could be improved. Personally I don't recommend it.

Best Dish Ever

By aych |

I havent tried other dishes but Crab cooked with butter garlic and lemon was the highlight of my day. I went there again ,had the same dish. Marvellous again. Service was excellent too, Quick and friendly..Reason to go to San Francisco..

So good, laid back and hospitable staff

By Michael S |

Edsel is an awesome manager. Treated us so well, the staff was very attentive. Food was fresh and delicious. We came back for a second meal the next day. Same results. I would say, that with all the choices of dining on a short vacation schedule, a second meal in consecutive days, says you're doing alright😁. Out of all the places you have to choose from, you can't go wrong here.

Great seafood on Fisherman’s Wharf near Pier 39

By Lisa C |

As a Bay Area native, I’ve walked past Sabella & LaTorre countless times in San Francisco but never stopped in. That changed when my family visited from Los Angeles and my nephew ordered a lobster roll from their street-side counter. One look at that buttery beauty and we all decided to sit down and dine. From the moment we were seated, Irwin, our server made the experience exceptional. His warm, welcoming attitude and attentive service truly stood out. Bonus points: this spot doesn'tcharge the 25% tourism fee that many neighboring restaurants at Fisherman’s Wharf tack on. That alone makes it worth a visit. The Wharf is packed with seafood joints, but Sabella & LaTorre held its own among the competition. Everything we ordered was fresh, flavorful, and generously portioned. I went with the crab panini, and I can’t recommend it enough. The fresh Dungeness crab, melted cheese, tomato, all pressed between perfectly grilled sourdough. It came with golden fries that impressively stayed hot throughout the meal. My mom opted for the plain crab sandwich on a brioche bun it was simple, yet delicious, especially for those who prefer their crab without cheese or tomato. The lobster roll? Also a hit. We shared the grand appetizer platter, which included fried shrimp, scallops, calamari, grilled veggies, and fries. At $45, it was a solid value but what truly elevated the dish was the tartar sauce. I’m not exaggerating when I say it was legendary. I ended up dipping everything in it, including my fries. I’d return just for that sauce. Another standout: the sourdough bread served with rich, creamy butter. They kept it coming, and we kept devouring it. So simple, yet so satisfying. Other perks worth noting: Free soda refills (always a win), Two hours of complimentary parking across the street - huge savings in an area where parking can run $45/hour, and clean functional restrooms…though they could use a refresh - just a heads-up for fellow detail-oriented diners. All in all, Sabella & LaTorre delivered a memorable experience with top-notch seafood, stellar service, and thoughtful touches that make dining here a pleasure. Next time you’re at Fisherman’s Wharf, skip the tourist traps and give this gem a try. You won’t be disappointed!

Very average food

By ashish v |

We were looking for an authentic sea food experience however were disappointed with the quality of the food as well as the ambience. The crabs were small and were difficult to get any meat out of them. The rest of the dishes were also very average. Won’t be going back there.

Great service, good food, fun spot !

By Pumpkindork |

We ate here our first night at fisherman's wharf. The staff was very friendly and they all seemed to enjoy their jobs, which is not always the case in touristy areas. The food was good, but not fantastic. It is right in the heart if fishermans wharf which added to the overall experience:). Prices were mid range, they even had a kids menu that our son could order off.

Nostalgia

By SagaloutsTour |

One of the older restaurants on the wharf, nice atmosphere, really friendly service, generous portions, good quality food.

Best lobster rolls in San Fran!

By rachelurology |

This restaurant was so much fun! We sat at the bar and the bartender was so awesome. He gave us the history of the restaurant and he was so cool to talk with. The food is to die for! The clam chowder and the lobster rolls are out of this world! The lobster roll just melts in your mouth! This restaurant is full of history and love! Exceptional service! We felt like part of the family and we will for sure come again next time we visit San Fransisco.

Disappointing experience

By Neil K |

This is the first terrible rating I've given any restaurant. The quick order outdoor food was dry and tasteless. We threw away the food, which I have never done. I was expecting terrific food from these stalls, which I had before.

Clam Chowder and a brew - great combo

By gobproperty |

On a pre-covid Saturday, we walked to Fisherman's Wharf and stopped to have clam chowder and a brew. Perfect for a warm day. On other visits I've had patrale sole and scampi, both were excellent. Haven't tried the take-out during covid. Can't wait to get back.

Fresh seafood

By 1879fulham |

Popular seafood restaurant in Fisherman’s Wharf. Nice selection dishes including their specialties lobster and crab. The booths inside are a little bit tight though. I’m not small but am certainly not large and I had difficulty manoeuvring in and out of the seat. Staff were very friendly and attentive. Overall if I am back in this area I would happily return.

Lunch at Sabella & La Torre

By BubblesVacations |

Recently visited Fisherman's Wharf and just loved it! The food and service was great. Our food and drinks were served quick and they offered a good food portion that was very filling. We had their shrimp sandwich and clam chowder and it was so delicious specifically the clam chowder which was just perfect. If you are in the area visiting this is a great restaurant to eat at.

Visit here for excellent food

By Ann F |

Unassuming gem of a place. The food is reasonably priced and very good with excellent portions. Husband had a crab sandwich which was huge and I had cheese ravioli with beef and tomato sauce, both were absolutely delicious. We’ve been in San Francisco 3 days now and this is the best we’ve eaten and the best priced. The staff are quick, efficient and friendly.

Super!

By andreaferrari240 |

Excellent seafood sandwiches. A MUST! But I need to tell this: we took a crab sandwich and we went to eat it on the bench close to the sea, and the birds attacked us and the crab sandwich fall down. And the guy from Sabella & La Torre gave us another one, for free. We did not ask, it was just his kind initiative. Not usual.

Great Chowder

By parbendra |

The chowder was great, service fast and with a smile. The fish was not great but I realised as I travelled that regular fish and chips have a certain acquired taste. Location is busy but you are in the heart of Fishermans Wharf and would definitely visit again.

Very commercial

By volkermtl |

Chinese owner not very friendly. Commanding his staff. Whole Crabb 45,— Draft beers. Very good waiter but the toilet is a hygienic disaster. I told the owner but he was not interested to hear. If you finished they want you to leave the table for next guests. Not a place to come back. There are much better crabb restaurants there.

Reasonable price and good food

By Stefano M |

Been here for dinner, close to the pier: friendly staff, reasonable prices and fresh seafood (had crab and shrimps cocktail).

Great Take-away

By DaniElle |

Love the take away seafood e.g. the crabmeat oder shrimp sandwiches or clamchowder bowls. Tasty and reasonable prices. Friendly staff as well.

Nice little find on the wharf!!!

By DannyD81 |

We visited Sabella & La Torre because it is one of the oldest places on the wharf, figuring if it's been around so long, it has to be good. We were not disappointed. The restaurant has a cool, old-school feel with the old fashioned booths. We ordered a sauteed seafood mix that did not disappoint and was a generous portion. Clam chowder was very good, a little heavy for my liking but tasty. Overall, not the fanciest place but very nostalgic and clean. Service was friendly and quick.

Simply poor

By Watty5657 |

After spending so much energy on whipping people into the restaurant there was obviously little energy lady for making it a good experience. Service was no better than ok and the food was frankly poor. Crab sandwich and shrimp were both tasteless.

Good value.

By Jeff B |

Had a very enjoyable dinner here. The crab cake appetiser was very good. Red snapper and mussels for our mains. The wine was limited a bit in choice but both the red and white we had were very drinkable. The service was very good. Would be happy to eat here again.

Best clam chowder!

By m7nners |

We have had lots of clam chowder in our trips to SF but this place is the best. Staff so friendly and helpful as well. Great stuff! Thanks.

Dinner Out

By Kendra Ray |

My husband and I have been here several times. The restaurant inside is small but quaint. If you have a large party of more than 6 people this wouldn’t be a place where you could sit together. If you are wanting a nice authentic Italian American dinner with fish as the primary ingredient this fresh fish. I had the Cod Almondine and it was delicious my hubby had Swordfish and he said it was the best he had ever had. Fresh and full of flavor. Great place to eat!

Just the place if you like seafood!

By Barry G |

Sabella & La Torre is on the San Francisco waterfront near Pier 39 and if you want great seafood at a reasonable price this just the place(no pun intended!) All the meals come with either a salad or a bowl of clam chowder and the fish is lovely and fresh and good!

Fried Shrimp is great!

By T9496LDrobertn |

This is a great place to grab lunch and take it to eat by the pier. The fried shrimp was the best thing we had. We did not care for the chowder and thought it was mostly tasteless. We also ordered a Shrimp Poorboy Sandwich, which also did not have any seasoning to it. Unfortunately, we took our food to the pier, so had no salt or pepper to season it up. Ended up not even eating it.

Excellent

By JPA_555 |

We went there a family of 5 and chose this restaurant among many other by chance. We had very good meals, service was efficient and good. Price was good too. If you are in the pier chose it: it’s a good and safe choice!

A great place.

By Larry K |

I recently spent a couple of weeks near this wonderful place. I went there for the food, which was outstanding, but I kept going back because of the service. If there is a person who does a better job of serving than Erwin Ebacuado, I have yet to meet that person. But, he wasn't the only one. The other service people were good, too. Of course, there are many good eating options around the San Francisco Fishermans Warf, and I have tried many of them. This one is my favorite by far.

Great choice!

By Road736010 |

When there are so many restaurants to choose from, it’s very difficult to decide. We chose Sabella and were so glad that we did. Service was great and food was excellent. We ordered several things which we shared...clam chowder, fried calamari, crab cakes, and a lobster roll. Everything was delicious...even the fries were great!

Had some clam chowder in a

By Rita T |

Had some clam chowder in a bread bowl. Come on I’m in San Francisco so yes this is a given. They were fast with the service and I was lucky to grab a chair at the bar outside in front of their order place so a bit crowded but good to put my feet up for a moment. The chowder was ok the bread was delicious. The chowder needed more flavor but it was hot so It hit the spot.

Little restaurant in the fish market

By Maite Lorente |

Do you want to eat fresh fish and the typical clam chowder soup? This is the place! It is a small restaurant behind the fish market with a great history! Price is ok! The story of Sabella & La Torre begins with the Sabellas in 1927, when Luciano Sabella and his son, Antone, opened a small seafood stand at Fisherman's Wharf.

A great lunch stop for lunch!

By hutchss |

A great lunch stop for my friend and myself. We wanted a fresh crab cocktail but really hate getting one and having to carry it around while eating — especially since there isn’t any place to sit. So we opted to go inside and dine. Our waiter, Kevin, was gracious, professional, and accommodating — and provided excellent service. We ordered our crab cocktails and enjoyed fabulous SF sour dough bread and fresh butter! A few dollars more than the “walking” cocktail, but worth every penny — excellent service, a nice place to sit, a larger portion, and French bread! The crab was delicious, too!

Decent food in a tourist spot

By Brenda K |

My husband, sister, brother-in-law and I had dinner here because we were tired of walking Fisherman's Wharf. It is an old fashioned restaurant specializing in seafood with good service. We all enjoyed our entrees: seafood medley, fish tacos, red snapper and a whole Dungeness crab (which cost $41!). Sides weren't as good as the fish.

Good Fish

By RCKat |

This is a great place to have some simple, tasty, well cooked and simple fish based food. The crab is really good. Wash is all down with some local IPA.

Fun lunch in San Fran

By TravelovinCDN |

First off let me say rating food is always SOOOO subjective..... really have no basis to go off what people like to eat in their real lives or how they cook at home, so for us experience is almost as big as the food. We had just come off 3 hours at Alcatraz when we stopped in here, after wandering around Fisherman's Wharf (getting hangry) and trying to decide which restaurant was going to give us the "best" lunch we saw this place and it looked down to earth and just behind all the hustle and bustle of the outdoor stands. We sat at the bar and the lady who helped us was just wonderful to chat with. We had a couple pints of beer, some peel and eat shrimp (Mmmmmm) and 2 Sandwiches - 1 we loved (Cold Crab) the other was ok (Hot Sandwich with Crab and Shrimp). Would go go back for sure though!

DON'T order the fried seafood.

By kcchin |

Two and half stars at best. Made a poor choice in ordering the fried shrimp and fries($11.50). Average tasting deep fried food. Tasted like packaged frozen breaded shrimp. Yes, it was my mistake. Maybe should have ordered the fresh crab meat ...hind sight. There's an outside stand up counter and there's a small restaurant behind the counter. Was disappointed.

Sabella & La Torre, fine for tourists....

By Eugene Z |

While in a nice location, The Cannery, at the west end of Fisherman's Wharf, The cuisine was average at best and overpriced. The shrimp curry was lacking in spice and the Crab Louis had a scant amount of frozen crab. The server was friendly, but the service was poor. All-in-all I would not go back.

Good food and attentive staff

By CDNinHK |

Caught without an umbrella as the skies opened up, we ran towards Fisherman’s Wharf for dinner hoping to snag a bowl of clam chowder in a bread bowl. Looking like the lost tourists we were as we looked over our options at the food stalls, we didn’t notice the restaurants behind until one of the stall workers encouraged us to go inside their restaurant... so we did... and into Sabella and La Torre we entered by accident. Hoping for some good seafood, this restaurant did not disappoint. We ordered fried calamari, shrimp cocktail, fish and chips and clam chowder in a bread bowl. And for our no-seafood for me child, spaghetti with meat sauce. The food was tasty and came to $70+tip for food (no booze). We’d certainly come here again. The only thing I would have liked was if the bread in the bread basket was warm... not cold/room temperature when served.

Great fried food

By mandabuffly |

Extremely surprised at how good this was for a street food vendor on the Wharf. We opted for their fried options and got fried shrimp and fries and fish and chips. They have them in a case already pre-fried and I was skeptical on how they would taste but they were super crispy, a good portion and the fries were on point. The breading on the fish was very thick but super crisp and the fish was very moist. The only drawback was how disorganized the line was and how to order. The line was not that long but we easily waited 20 minutes for our food that was sitting in a case.

Fantastic

By Donald M |

This was directed to the owner who helped us. We were there on a Friday night. His server was sick and his bus boy had a heart attack/ stroke. The bald guy with glasses did the best he could. The place was packed. Heard a table complaining about water cup size lol . He did the best he could u see the circumstances

Terrible

By minimize940314 |

Do not go to this place. I had fried seafood and obviously all the fries were fried way ahead of time of my order. All of them were extremely soggy. Very far from being crispy. It was a complete waste of money. If you care about your spending, do not dine at this place. It was a nightmare.

Calamari Cocktail Sumpreme

By Mike W |

I grew up in Bay Area, been to Fisherman's wharf more times than I can count! Since I was a kid, my Grandparents or Family would go to the Wharf and we'd always stop for some fresh Crab, Shrimp or whatever cocktail... I usually go by look and smell. I often switch off what I pick.. Crab, Shrimp, Calamari, etc... This time it was their Calamari Cocktail... Very Good! Nicely seasoned oil and vinegar dressing. So, good you drink the juice at the bottom... Nicely done!

Consistently good sea food

By Eric K |

This is a classic Fisherman's Warf restaurant. Their menu is almost exclusively sea food - done well. This is a favorite of tourists. Try the clam chowder in a sour dough bread bowl - it is a meal in its self.

Food and Sanitation

By Carlos T |

This is the first time eating at this restaurant in a long time and the overall experience was satisfactory! We ordered the Boston Clam chowder and we were disappointed, it tasted more like creamy potatoes soup than Clam chowder! The soup had some clams but not very much! The clam and linguine dish was good! The sour doug bread was very good! However, the sanitation of the dining area could be better. Their was a lot food debris on the floor and needed a good sweeping!

Great Seafood

By spaveljack |

This is a tasty causual place right on the wharf. All dishes are excellent and reasonable and the clas chowder is delicious.

Good Food on the Wharf at Reasonable Prices

By Summer H |

For someone with a seafood allergy I was hesitant to dine here, however I really wanted a meal with table service so I took a chance. The staff were made aware of my allergy and went out of their way to make the dining experience enjoyable. The food was amazing with huge portions. You must try the sourdough bread with your meal. All in all I was impressed with the food and service.

Very good choice in the area

By Kay R |

A large menu with lots of fresh seafood options, and a comfortable atmosphere, make this one of the best places on the wharf. Booth/table and bar seating. Friendly, skilled bartender, too !

NOT the lobster roll you know and love

By Bee |

Lobster meat in the roll was basically minced - almost like a paste of lobster salad except for the big piece of shell I almost swallowed. Not only unappetizing texture but no flavor. Super disappointed. Service was good. Bathroom must date back to the gold rush of 1848 - was last cleaned then. Yuck. My recommendation would be steer clear of the lobster roll and the bathroom.

Good food, bad price - quality. Instead go to a Pier 39 restaurant

By Andrea C |

Food is good, but not outstanding. Restaurant is uncomfortable. For those prices I would rather eat in a Pier 39 restaurant with a view

Didn't enjoy the food

By DavideGiuliaTorino |

We had a toddler so choose this place on the wharf entrance as it had seating tables. First of all when you seat you pay more whatever dish on display (i.e. bread chowder bowl $9.50 instead of $7.75). Anyway I could undestand that because of higher costs of a restaurant compared to a food stand, but when I pay about $10 a chowder I expect it to be generous with claims. It wasn't, to us it tasted as a potato soup with some claims here and there. Tbh on our 5 weeks trip we bought a Campbell's canned claim chowder and it tested better. The lunch menu calamari pasta wasn't anything special: pasta well cooked, sauce ok and calamari chewy and unsalted. Go somewhere else

Bad clam chowder

By rocky b |

3 Sabella’s Fisherman’s Wharf, SF Clam chowder barely okay Expensive, almost $15 for a pint DO NOT RECOMMEND

Fantastic place to be

By Ifada J |

Prior to setting off to the Fisherman's Wharf, I'd decided it bad to be Paella or nothing. So, you can imagine my disappointing when I couldn't get hold of a restaurant that served it. I settled for Sabella & La Torre on the advise of a older man around. I went for the Mixed grill and I loved every single bite. I'd definitely recommend here to you if you're planning to stop by at the what's.

Average at Best

By acoachcool |

On a recommendation we visited Sabella and La Torre Restaurant. They have a great representation, but we found it lacking. Located in the Pier 39 area of San Francisco. Seating is limited so expect a wait. This didn’t deter us as we wanted to experience the rave. We had the seafood sampler, a seafood salad and clam chowder. The seafood sampler is served with fries and steamed vegetables. The fries were the best on the plate. The vegetables and seafood were average. BTW, the fries were warm probably from sitting for awhile. The chowder was thick, but lacked sufficient clams to set it apart from other chowders. The seafood salad was loaded with fresh crab and shrimp, with thousand island dressing on the side. The serving was about what one would expect. It was tasty. They serve beer, wine, sodas, and tea. It is a family restaurant, so bring the kids/grandkids. We attended just after the lunch hour to avoid the crowds. Service was a bit slow, which shouldn’t be the case when there are empty tables. Expected more, but Sabella earned an average grade.

The clam soup is good

By PGP61 |

Restaurant located in the port with outdoor and indoor tables. Fish-based menu, for lunch we had clam soup presented in a loaf of bread. Good. Fast and friendly service, good prices.

Great food, lovely service and excellent value.

By scottJillSheffield |

On holiday from England with three hungry teenagers. Found this place to be no frills, authentic place with great tasting great tasting food surprisingly good value to say it's in the middle of a tourist hot spot. The service was lovely and they actually made sure that we didn't order too much. Really great place that has been open for 70 years.

Can Prepared Food & Dirty

By nware1 |

You know around the Wharf you are going to get “tourist food”, but this is a step below that. When, from your table, you can see cans of “New England Clam Chowder” in the kitchen (an unclean kitchen area at that) you know this “restaurant” has given up. All of the food is mediocre at best. Go to Scoma’s!

Great Seafood Restaurant

By Angela Turner |

Good seafood restaurant right in fisherman's wharf. Pricey but worth the cost. Very friendly service. Loved siting outside right with all the action all around you. Liked the people watching. They did have indoor seating as well. The lobster roll was good but had a tad too much mayo. The clam chowder bowl had great flavor and was hearty. The crab cakes were one of the best I have ever had.

Very good food

By maryechovalley |

This was a really busy restaurant, but we sat at the bar, so we didn't have to wait. Ordered beer and lunch, beer was cold, food was great, staff was very attentive, and fun to talk with.

4 visits in 20 days! Not let down

By Shawn B |

Was in town for 20 days and ate here 4 times. The bartender, Paul, has worked there 31 years. He was a great master of ceremonies. I got the Lobster roll and perfect French fries. And we had the clam chowder in a sour dough bread bowl and we had a whole steamed crab served cold with plenty of melted butter. Amazing. This place is tucked into Pier 3 and his been around since 1927. Hidden gem!! A ton of character. “Established in 1927, by Luciano Sabella and his son Antone, Sabella and La torre (originally call A Sabella) is one of the few original Fisherman's Wharf restaurants in existence today.”

Disappointing chowder

By Madge M |

Having sampled very tasty chowder elsewhere on our west coast holiday, we were looking forward to a similar meal at Sabella and la Torre. However, I'm sorry to say that the chowder tasted just like chicken soup with no fish taste or evidence of clams or sea food. We reported this to the staff who, although they said they were sorry, did not seem too fussed. The zuccini was very good.

Chowder whatever

By commodorex |

No cutlery on the table. No cutlery given when served. The chowder is much inferior compared with Fog Harbor. The lobster roll is a waste of money. There is a crowd nevertheless. There must be something good which we did not discover

Good location but reasonable

By DjEmcee |

We were going to Nick's Lighthouse next door but it was closed, so we came here instead. Both of our entrees were excellent, I had the Cajun Salmon tacos and my wife had the sauteed seafood medley. Bread is outstanding, but it is Fisherman's wharf. Service was very good, and the price was reasonable for what is a tourist trap zone.

Big portions!

By Amanda |

We went here and orders calamaris, courgette fries, 1 lobster roll and 1 crab roll both came with fries. Its safe to say we ordered way too much! We ate the squid and shared the lobster roll then took the frites and crab roll back to our hotel. We couldn't bare to waste it. It was all really delicious, full of locals and tourists. Service was good and right on the pier.

Not fancy but excellent fish dishes

By travelingfool33 |

In the middle of a very popular tourist area, this place is one of the best options. The fish is very fresh and prepared well. Lots of choices on the menu, all of them good!

Service is fast

By Jim&Iris |

One of the fishermen wharf restaurants. Service is fast. Crab is good, quantity is average. I suspect there is no lobster tail in lobster rolls. Who knows the answer?

Must try the clam chowder!

By FatmaAndMerlyn |

This place is a little crowded and not that cheap, but if you want to sit down and have some clam chowder, it's a great place for it.

Service is great and so is the food!

By captmorgnsgrl |

We went in to get some clam chowder and to let my husband get his fill of seafood. This place is one that has the open air market in front where you can grab a seafood cocktail, clam chowder bowl and many other seafood delights. We were cold and hungry and chose Sabella & La Torre to eat at. I had the Crab with Linguini prepared with butter, olive oil and garlic. My husband had a bowl of clam chowder and half a crab roll. They also served with complimentary sour dough bread and lot of butter. I recommend this place highly and the service was outstanding. The price was competitive with the other restaurants in the same location.

The place is the historic one in the zone

By Rodrigo V |

The inside of the restaurant really exhudes its history, the service is great, the clam chowder is good and the sourdough kind of stale, the shrimps and fried squid really need a little more seasoning..

Hidden Treasure

By deedeekeel |

This wonderful place is tucked away behind the fish vendors on the street and it's amazing in every way! Cool bar area where you can also eat dinner or grab one of the cozy booths. Incredible food!!! The shrimp and clam chowder are the best in town. Big, bold cocktails made perfectly. Atmosphere and staff are perfection...we are repeat customers as each time has been extremely enjoyable!

Three days in SFO

By Positano15 |

A great place to get take away food and sit in the sun and listen to the local buskers. Seafood is fresh and tasty.

Great location, average food

By LDCJack |

The location of the restaurant is conveniently located along pier 43. The calamari was fresh and tasty. The clam chowder is very thick which is not my preference but it has decent flavor.

Carlos is awesome, food is great

By Jason T |

Great little outdoor place to get super fresh sea food...I mean like just caught. If you want fresh crab or calamari this is the place for you

Clam chowder bread bowl!!

By caressagood |

Hubby is happy! We were seated immediately and had great service the entire time! (Thanks Jose!!) I’m allergic to seafood so I got the chicken Ceasar salad. Very crisp and the perfect amount of dressing. Hubby ordered the clam chowder bread bowl and the crab sandwich. Very happy with both!!

Disappointed

By Carlos T |

It's been a very long time since my last visit to this restaurant and the overall experience this time was poor! I ordered a filet of Sole and it was terrible! It had no taste and a lot of breading! I left half my meal on the plate! The clam chowder was okay! The sour dough bread was very good! The Service was average! The dining room area needed to be clean. A lot of food on the floor! It takes away from the dining experience! I won't be coming back!

Friday Lunch

By Ronnie Mackin |

I came into town for the RockNRoll San Francisco Half Marathon and was exploring the Fisherman’s Wharf area. I saw this place and went iinsode to give it a try. I had the crab salad panini. It was reallly good. But the best part of the experience was the people watching and talking to the bartender. He was informative and recommended renting a car and exploring NAPA valley. This is a really good place for an authentic fisherman’s wharf lunch.

Bland stodge in a bun !

By Dionysus |

Had the Chowder in a bun - bland , no seafood in it or any seafood taste just thick corn starch gooo in a bun …literally a can of supermarket seafood soup is better !

Hit the spot and even more

By Frank T |

I spent 10 days on a boys road trip around California finishing up in San Francisco. I honestly couldn't wait to visit Fishermens Wharf and devour a Dungeness Crab. I wasn't sure which of the restaurants to pick upon walking down the aisle but something seemed like Sabell & La Torre was the place. I was by myself so politely took the bar stool. I was immedialetly made at ease when I explained all I wanted was a whole crab. I got the package which included the clam chowder and sourdough. Can I say the service was really wonderful, brilliant hospitality from the waitress and bartender who made me feel totally home. The crab was delicious, hit the mark, was cracked and setout perefectly so i didn't have to do all the heavy lifting. Many thanks, all the way from Oz.

Best Crab Ever

My husband and I stopped while in San Francisco. He was yearning for Dungeness crab...and but did he get one! Entrees come with soup or salad. My crab cakes were delicious. Not a fancy place, more like eating at a fisherman's place, in a good way! Full bar. A wonderful experience.

Great restaurant

Great little fine down at Fisherman's Wharf. The staff were exceptional and gave us a taste of seafood gumbo. It was so good we ordered another bowl, it is served with delicious sour dough bread. Loved sitting at the bar talking to the bar staff eating our Gumbo, Will visit again.

Nothing like I expected

We arrived in SFO in the afternoon and were excited to get some Clam Chowder to hold us over until we had a late dinner. This was terrible. There were lumps of flour in the chowder, not just one or two but more lumps than clams or potatoes combined. It was dirty too, or maybe just run down. We were very disappointed.

Sourdough clam chowder soup bowls

By Diana Richards G |

The best sourdough soup bowls loaded with clam chowder. I love that they give you all the bread from the bowl so you can dip it in the chowder. The chowder had big chunks of clams and a lovely flavor.

Awsome

We just walked in while vacationing in San Fran, looked good. If you love seafood, come here and gorged yourself on a platter of lobster, oysters, shrimp, calamari, crab legs. Oh my goodness, my husband and I just dove into all this seafood. Completely satisfied.

Try it once or look around. Fried oily food catches up to you😜

Quick street side service for lunches. Combination shrimp and fish was below expectations. Shrimp was very oily and thick batter. Fish was finger food type. Clam chowder bowl was ok. Should have tried the food next door. If you are interested in fried squid it looked better. They do have inside seating for dinner so the food might be better.

Quality You Can Taste

By Bill D |

I have been going to this hidden away jewel since 1971 when a bunch of us were on liberty in the U.S. Navy. I cannot remember how many times I have returned with friends, a new girlfriend who later became my bride, out of town guests and later couples from our church. Some people complain that it is all the same and never changes. Yes, that is correct, YOU can always count on the same excellent meal every time you go there. Who cares that the decor has not changed over the years; do you go there to eat or look at the walls? Food is king there whether you choose a late lunch, or early dinner. We do not like to walk around on the Wharf eating out of a paper basket, period. We like to stop at Sabella and La Torre's to take our mid-day break. Yes, sit down, have great table service, go to bathrooms nearby and relax. We both LOVE their New England Clam Chowder which comes out perfect; not to hot but not room temp either. Depending on which meal your order, the Clam Chowder is included. I opted for the crab cakes meal (BOTH cakes were the size of a hamburger patty only much thicker and tasty) with fresh veggies instead of rice or fries. My Lady chose their Fish and Chips and raved about them being the best she ever had. I would concur with the total quality of my Crab Cakes entree. Once again, do you go there for the decor or the food? We cannot wait for our next trip back the San Francisco and especially Sabella and La Torre's!!

tourist trap

By Godfrey S |

Hustling to get people into the restaurant. Far from comfortable (diner type tables, plastic menus). Service was perfunctory. Food was satisfactory but not good. Really? Where has the magic at Fisherman's wharf gone? It's a tourist trap and provided one knows that it is adequate.

Fantastic bread bowls

Hubby and I stopped here after a cruise excursion because of the great service and food. Everyone is very friendly and professional. We had the chowder soup bread bowl and the calamari. Everything was delicious and very filling. We will come back again when we are in this neck of the woods.
