Good but expensive

By Desert G |

I took my auntie for a bday dinner because I know she likes indian....the food was good fresh but its too expensive compare to other places in dEvon. Somehow the staff is annoying for me, I don't like their water pitcher and it takes too long to wait for my debit card back after paying for food.

Best of Pakistani food

If you like to experience best of Pakistani food , this place offers the best in US . Its pretty economical

Delicious Pakistani food

By MIAMISHEILA |

The restaurant is spacious and they do a tremendous take out , as well. Having never tasted Pakistani food, we were pleasantly surprised by how tasty everything was. Their menu has pictures of all the dishes, plus our waiter, Dhaid, answered all our questions and could not have been more pleased that we loved the restaurant. Upon arriving, you are served a dish of onion, sliced tomatoes, and cucumbers along with a minty raita and tamarind sauce. We loved the curry Karaki Chicken ($10.99) made with garlic, ginger, tomato and herbs; also the Dal Palak ($9.99) with lentils, spinach and garlic. Both were very spicy but delicious. We also had the onion Kulcha naan filled with onions, ginger and chopped jalapeño.And of course, a side order of Basmati rice. Portions are very large so we had yummy leftovers the next day. For dessert, Dhaid brought us rice pudding, so the sweetness was a perfect accompaniment after a spicy meal. NOTE: No alcohol is served in Pakistani restaurants, but they do serve sodas, tea,ice cream soda, and their version of a fruit smoothie. We were also pretty concerned about the cleanliness. The restaurant floor was filthy, with dropped cucumbers, etc. and bathroom hallway was strewn with paper towels. (I only hope the kitchen was cleaner.) Also there is a glass top over a white tablecloth, and some of the tablecloth sides were dirtied with food. Otherwise, it was a lovely meal, with super attentive service by a caring waiter, in a unique atmosphere at an incredibly reasonable price.Restaurant gets very busy on Saturday nights.

Great food, though watch the a la carte pricing

By Blake |

My friends and I were looking for a great place to eat recently, and one of them jokingly pointed at the first restaurant we saw on this street after turning. A few seconds later, I check my phone for reviews, and everyone had a great experience. We ordered garlic nan, onion kulcha, chicken makhani, frontier chicken, bhindi masala, and dal palak. Personally, I thought everything was delicious. My favorite was the bhindi masala - a fantastic okra dish. Honestly, you cannot go wrong with anything vegetarian in this restaurant, and the chicken dishes were delicious as well. Beware the a la carte pricing, however - rice is not included with your meal. This isn't a deal breaker, but is something to understand ahead of time. We ordered one order of rice for the table (or 3), and it was enough for me. I don't typically need a ton of rice when I go out to this type of place anyway. The waiter tried to persuade us that 3 mains was enough, but variety is the spice of life, and that's what I am always going for at these places. Plus, you have a fantastic lunch the next day (curries always seem to be better after a day in the fridge, unlike Chinese or Japanese foods...) All in all, go and enjoy - and I recommend the garlic nan over the onion kulcha.

Bad

By Vacation769630 |

No taste, naan was so disgusting. Meat in nihari was a bad quality meat. It has to be beef shank. Very much salty food and seems like nihari was frozen and heat it up for our customers who paid for old food

SUB-STANDARD FARE!

By veer2808 |

I guess we are spoilt by genuine Pakistani cuisine, and so we expected similarly yummy food when we visited the Pakistani neighborhood in Devon, Chicago and lunched at Sabri Restaurant (an iconic Pakistani eatery). But the cuisine resembled the original in name only. We ordered the mixed grill platter and frontier chicken which were cold, dry and lacked the original flavors. The naans were the only good item on the menu! We asked to speak to the manager about the food quality but were told he was busy. Not a good experience!

Best Nihari in Chicago!

By Farooq Shahzad |

One of the best Pakistani restaurants in Chicago. The service and food are excellent. My go to place for takeout and a casual meal with friends.

Great food , good service, great Nihari

By Usman M |

Like their Nihari went there 6 time and they improved a lot with quality and quantity. Naan are the best fresh from clay oven. Frontier chicken, brain masala and chicken are good too. Also make sure to try mango ice cream as well faloda with pistachio ice cream. Try to avoid to go there on Friday, Saturday as the wait time is longer specially with group of 10.

Getting Worse

By Asim C |

I am writing this review with a heavy heart, as a customer who has made the pilgrimage to Sabri Nihari for over 25 years. It pains me to say that what was once a culinary landmark has become a shadow of its former self. My most recent visits over the past few years have shown a consistent and disappointing trend: the food is being fundamentally changed, and not for the better. The Nihari: The soul of this dish is fading. The once deep, complex, and robustly spiced gravy is now noticeably blander. It has lost its characteristic richness and, crucially, its authentic greasy mouthfeel that is traditional to the dish. It feels like a cautious, watered-down version designed to not offend, rather than the bold, unforgettable flavor it once was. The Naan: The transformation of the naan is the most visible symbol of this decline. It is getting progressively whiter and softer, with less and less of the hearty, whole-wheat character that made it the perfect, crunchy, earthy vessel for scooping up the Nihari. It now tastes like a generic, mass-produced bread, lacking the rustic soul it once had. I understand that restaurants must adapt to health trends and changing palates. But this logic falls apart when the experience is considered: if I wanted a "healthy" meal, I would not be spending time and money on a 45-minute Uber trip to Devon Street specifically for Nihari. I come here for the authentic, unapologetic, traditional experience—the very thing that made Sabri famous in the first place. What made Sabri Nihari a destination was its commitment to its own identity. That identity has been lost. For those who remember how it was, this is a profound disappointment. I cannot, in good conscience, recommend it to anyone seeking a true Nihari experience anymore.

For great Indian food, visit Sabri Nihari

By MSII |

Food was simply exquisite. We did carry out, and the hostess was lovely and cordial. She engaged us in a lively conversation while we waited for our food. The falooda is the bomb! Just as it states, layers of absolute yumminess! We ordered the mutton biryani, garlic naan, butter chicken and chicken frontier. The portions are HUGE! Each order can feed about 2/3 people. The food was DELICIOUS! Going to enjoy leftovers today. May have to go back and have one more falooda before we leave Chicago. :(

Delicious

By brutusln |

This restaurant is a little untidy and service is on the casual side. When the food arrives, you don't give a darn. Eyepopping and delicious entrees and appetizers.

Weekend special dinner with friends

By sanyaiscute |

I was in chicago to meet my friends and they happen to take me to Devon street and it was dinner time so we were looking for restaurants for dinner but being weekend there was huge rush at major fine dine. But luckily this restaurant manages the crowd so well that in 15 minutes we got table inspite of many people waiting before and after us. I was amazed by their crowd managing skills. And not to forget food was awesome. Quick service and great food.

Taste of Pakistani food

By EuroLoverBCN |

We went to this place on a nice Friday Ramadan evening. Its crowded and crowds are still coming! We were waiting for a good 45mins to get a seat. There were some snacks and rose milk was served for the people waiting in queue. Food - lots of Pakistani dishes in veg and non veg. I had a nice paneer mutter and my muslim friend had Haleem. The naans are really good and smooth. One naan is more than sufficient for one person. Inspite of waiting time the food taste made us happy finally. The service is super fast. The waiters are running to take care of their orders. Average courtesy though.

MUST DO for a typical india/pak palate

By abizarfarazdaktahera |

Cant stress this enough, it might just be the quintessentially desi spot at Devon. The menu just screams "MUST HAVE IT" and the taste and quality of the food does not disappoint either. Apart from their Nihari, do try their Paya Curry, Frontier Chicken/Lamb is great as well and the Dal Gosht is to die for. So next time you are in chicago, do your taste buds a favor and go to Sabri!

Don't miss it!

By HarisBh |

Sabri Nehari is a must when you are in Chicago. While the location is about 10 miles away from downtown it's worth the visit! - excellent food quality - wonderful service - outstanding hygienic all round Don't miss out!

Classic late night eats

By HuntingtonSurfInn |

Very tasty Pakistani food with fast and attentive service. I am a regular, and have eaten through the menu. Most dishes are great, but the eponymous dish is a classic for sure. Goat curries are well seasoned, and very tasty. Good rice dishes, the goat variety is a must.

Very average foods

By Kallol N |

We have heard a lot about of this restaurant but thoroughly disappointed with their quality of the foods. Won't go again. There are several good restaurants available there for Indian foods.

Good Nihari!

By Shoaib S |

This is perhaps the most popular Pakistani restaurant in Chicago – certainly the most popular restaurant on Devon Street. I went there for dinner with a couple of friends on Saturday night, and we had to wait about 30 minutes to get a table. The restaurant has to live up to its name (there is a very popular Nihari house by the same name in Karachi) and make good Nihari, and I have to admit the Nihari was quite good. And so was the mixed grill, the other dish that we tried. By American standards, the prices are also quite reasonable, as long as you don’t start mentally converting the dollars into Pakistani rupees! Recommended!

Excellent Nihari

By Oprah77 |

Nihari is the best..naans are very good too. Biryani not upto the mark. A bit expensive but the best ambience on Devon..so overall a good place to take out of town guests and on special occasions.

Typical Pakistani food. Far away from centre town.

By miles28 |

I very far way off if you staying Downtown. Neat clean restaurant in Little India. Typical Pakistani food. The Nihari was good but portions enormous. Tasty. Naan breads were also good.

Delicious delicacy

By Glamsaint |

We were just Amazed....the awesome taste...the beautiful decor....the friendly servers and the food....it reminds us about the traditional way it is cooked at home.

Good Pakistani Food

By Sheen V |

If you love meat and spices and do not mind hot, then this is the place to be. A good food with good service. Always very busy though. Love their Nihari and Naan.

Awesome Food

By kymmie0025 |

We were looking for Indian food on Chicago's northside Devon street. There are so many choices and we were not familiar with any of them. We decided to go to the one that was the most crowded. It's crowed for a reason, right? And what a great choice we made. The food was excellent. I spent 2 weeks in India before and am always looking for food that reminded me of my experience there. This came close to it. The staff was wonderful. The food choices are unique. The portion size is quite large. A few people can actually share 1 dish. Looking forward to going here again.

Excellent food - good service

By JK898989 |

Went here on a Friday night and it was packed at 10.30. We were seated pretty quickly and gave our appetizer orders. We had the vegetable samosas and they were yummy. Crisk on the outside and nice filling on the inside. We ordered main courses of the Kadhai Chicken and the Frontier Chicken. Both were pretty good. One was made bone-in and so tasted better. The other was boneless. Not too much curry on either which I prefer. We also ordered garlic naans. They were soft and HUGE. 1 was sufficient for us and we skipped the desert after that. Great and quick service throughout.

Love it

By Emad N |

Love it very very very nice the food is great the employees are greats too and the price is very good I'll come back again for sure

Not a good choice

By DL213 |

This place looks good when you enter but their food needs a lot of improvement. Their specialty is Nihari but it was Ok. Brain masala was not so good. Overall I would rate this place as average. I won't be back to this place.

Desi spicy food in Chicago!

By Dr_Babar_Khan |

Heard about the place and visited it when my taste buds longed for spicy desi food and I was not disappointed. Located on Devon Street, area full of subcontinental food and shops. Ordered nihari, chicken tikka and naan. Food was very good and served in time. Service standard was good but there is room for improvement.

Pakistani family dining on Devon

By Kevin_from_Boston |

Devon St is home to Little India in Chicago, and Sabri Nihari is a consistent winner, filled with large families on a Saturday night. Very tasty and the entire street is open late on weekends is you want a walk after dinner.

Great service and food!

By LeoAroundTheWorld |

Been to sabri many times over the years and mostly do takeout, but, this time I took my visiting family to dine in and we couldn't be more impressed with the service. I have never seen such a perfect and efficient, not to mention speedy, service experience in any restaurant before. On a busy Saturday night, we arrived at 7:55pm and were done with our food and out the door before 8:30pm. And despite the fast service, never once were we made to feel rushed and our servers and waiter were always courteous and kind. The food is great, too!

Great restaurant

By paragkarania |

Great well designed and lit restaurant. Seems to be the better one in the area, Most others are old/dirty and not well maintained. Lots of choices of Pakistani food. Biryanis are great, potions are large so be aware when ordering this item. Over all food is great . very flavorful. The staff is really disorganized. They are no clear lines of who is to do what and how to serve/take orders. Very forgetful too. The manager / receptionist is very rude to the staff and insulted a number of the staff members right in front of everyone in the dining room. The most disgusting sight is when they bring in a trolley to clean up tables once one has finished eating. The trollies are flighty and dirty. Not a something one wants to see in the middle of a meal.

Love the ambience and Food

By Gaurav S |

I am a regular visitor of Sabri Nihari although I don't live in Chicago Currently but whenever I visit Chicago, Its my first choice of having food .I enjoyed Kadhai Gosht ,Frontier Chicken which are awesome.I will say that wait time will be little over 45 mins at peak hours but trust me you won't regret it when authentic delicious food will be served on your table.

If you are craving for Pakistani food

By woaishanghai |

Chicago is not a good place for Pakistani/ Indian food. This is probably as good as it get. Food is good, hygiene is good. You get good value but don't come here expecting great food... satisfies your craving alright. Michelin certainly doesn't know Pakistani food.

Pakistani Indian culture food 😋

By Jimmi Millsap squirrels |

Plain good food enjoyed our meal from naan to chicken to fish entree really taste bring appetite leave pretentiousness behind. Jim and T #plain good food

SHE recommended it

By tdledgewater |

A former Pakistani student recommended this place, so I will give her all the credit. Or shortcomings. I am familiar with Indo-Paki cuisine, no surprises here. I do not use salt in my cooking, so I understand I have to do some "adjusting" for most restaurants. Nonetheless the vegetable pakora was inedible because of the salt, and tasted of "old" oil. I was excited to be able to have brains,, but their delicate flavor was overwhelmed by the texture and flavor of the other ingredients. The vegetable samosa was mushy. Frankly their best dish was a standard Indian mattar paneer. I took home some chicken biryani for my partner, it was fine. The server was prompt, seemed genuinely friendly. Good atmosphere, a lot of Pakistani customers. But! There may be better options.

Family visit

By Faisal S |

Excellent food. Delicious. Service was courteous. Food was delicious. The negative i would say was the maintenance of rest rooms. Too much spilled water on floor, overall not clean rest rooms.

Best Pakistani Food on Devon! (We’ve eaten here for the last 25 years)!

By The Happy Traveler |

Sabri Nihari Restaurant is a 25+ year favorite of ours for so many reasons. It’s clean, all food flavors stay individual and consistent thru the years and service is excellent! We try other places but the path always leads us back to the reliable Sabri Nihari! They always meet our expectations with the generous portions of delicious food. Anything you order is going to be good! Naazir is an exceptional server here! Whenever we go we feel really good that’s he’s taking care of our table. We order a lot of entrees and he is always accurate with our orders and proactive to bring more water, napkins, extra plates etc… He checks on us several times to be sure we have everything we need. Service here is always good with everyone but ask for Naazir’s section - he takes extra personal care to be sure you and your family enjoyed the meal!

Sabbri Nihari was a big disappointment

By cashelguy |

We went here because of good reviews on Tripadvisor. Unfortunately the food we got had little taste. This was surprising considering the large number of Indians in the room. This usually portends quality, authentic Indian food. At least the service was good.

Best restaurant in Chicago

By bldl786 |

Devon ave is a big street with a lot of Pakistani and Indian restaurant. I have tried many of them and thought that Sabri Nihari was the best out of all the others, you get food on time and staff is nice and food is delicious! Would truly recommend! Best resturant in Chicago.

Good Desi food

By The Happy Traveler |

Been here many times over the last 20 years. Nihari of course is their signature dish and is true to delicious form. Other dishes we ordered this time were chicken karahi, biryani and shami’s. Shami’s were just ok but the rest of the entrees were very good. The gulab jamuns were delicious after dinner with the tea. Wait staff is very good however they still always rush the food to the tables and rush you to hurry and finish eating. This is very embarrassing when you bring people here and they pull this! I advised our waiter last night (Monday and not busy) to please not rush us through our meal. We aren’t in a hurry and when we’re ordering almost $100+ worth of food to give us the courtesy of the time to eat it. He was very good and let us take out time thankfully. So my tip if you want to enjoy your food here is to ALWAYS: 1. Order one course at a time ie; appetizer then when it’s served order entrees. 2. Advise your waiter that you are not in a hurry and ask them please NOT to rush you through dinner. It’s not a race! If they could just learn this, it’s good desi food.

Good Indian food

By DoctorB2010 |

We went there for dinner. The food is delicious (especially Naan bread) and it can be a bit spicy if you're not used to Indian food.

Desi food

By Shadab |

Must try the biryani, Nigari and their kabab. Very oily food like all other Indian and paki food. Portions are fair and the place is overrated.

Nothing extraordinary.

By Sajo K |

The place is situated right in the heart of the desi street. Place is nice and well maintained. The staff is welcoming. We were given tables right away, the orders came quick but the taste were item specific. We were a group of four and had ordered garlic and regular naan, frontier chicken, chicken tikka(Name on the menu was different, can't recollect) and karahi chicken. The items are large portions so don't order too Much and end up taking TO-GOS, as we had to. The garlic Naan was good but nothing great, the regular naan can be avoided. The frontier chicken was amazing, its not much sauce type though. The chicken tikka was good too. The karahi chicken was no where near the taste of what it should be and at best could be left out of the order. Overall a nice experience but will try some other place if am back to the desi streets of Chicago.

great food

By shahids001 |

a great pakistani foo din chicago nihari was best item they have a must go for every one seving sizes are also very good .

Excellent Food

By Manuel M |

It was my first time ordering food at this place. Nice quantity and the quality of food was great. It’s become my best go to place now when I crave for Indian food.

Excellent food, service at affordable prices.

By Pooja J |

Love this place each time I go. Haven't found a dish on the menu that I haven't liked. Staff is fun and friendly.

Must visit when visiting Chicago!

By Fouzia Siddiqui |

I don’t know what they put in their Nihari but it is the best I have tasted in USA! We have tried several of their dishes and every dish is made to perfection!

Awesome Pakistani resturant

By dmazm |

Sabri nihari is one of our most goto resturant in Chicago. I really love this place. The food is very authentic and the servers are really nice. Try any item on the menu and guaranteed you will not be disappointed. Even their veggie options are amazing. Beats any indian-pakistani resturant in chicago. Hands down.

Excellent & fast service, wonderful meal

By HappyDesiNomad |

We were there on the Memorial Day weekend so the place was PACKED and the waiting line long, but it was not a very long wait. The waitstaff move with amazing speed and the food was wonderful, the best we've had in any Chicago restaurant. I wish they had more lamb options (most are beef).

Great Non Vegeterian food

By karankamra |

We went to the Devon Avenue for a trip to explore out the non vegetarian cuisine. This place looked quite pricey from the outside. And as soon as we entered, we were mesmerized by the aroma of delicious non veg foods. Having nothing at breakfast, we 4 guys sat down for a meal of lifetime. Started with chicken malai tikka, seek kabob and boti kabob. All were superb. Then tried the yummy chicken biryani plus goat curry which was also delicious. Ordered 2 rotis (which were as big as a naan) and could only finish one because we were so full with eating all other stuff! The quantity and taste of every dish was too good! Must visit and highly recommend to anyone looking to try indian/pakistani non veg cuisine.

Good food not much else

By AwanOmer |

The food is quite decent, is it the best Pakistani or Indian food? No it is not. The service is quite ok but it takes a lot of crowd so be ready to wait a bit at prime times.

Sabri Nihari – The taste of real Pakistani Food!

By Bilal S |

WOW! This place was so busy on a Saturday night. We were on road trip to Chicago, so when there we went to Sabri Nihari as we been seeing a lot of adds on one of the Pakistani Cable channel. The place was ramp packed but the person said give them 15 minutes and they made a table arrangement for about 16 people… which was great and it wasn’t too tight either. The menu was huge and lot of choice…a tip don’t go with the pics as the pics show you small quantities and because of that we order more and the quantities of the dishes was a lot! Now the quality all the dishes were nicely cooked and tasted amazing… we had Sabri Nihari (a given!), halem and bunch of there kabab/tikka plates. The Kababs and bootes were cooked nicely and weren’t burned and they were tender as well. Price wise it was not too expensive and not too cheap but all in all try it… its worth the visit! Tip: make sure you tell them the spice level of it would be too spicy!

Good Food

By zakir Hussain v |

Sabri Nihari is one of the old Indo Pak Halal food Restaurant on Devon ave. food has good test. for me only one thing is little minus point is its little oily.

Frontier Chicken Revisited

By Rolf A |

I've been to Sabri Nihari several times in the past several months, always returning to their Frontier Chicken. Depending on whose in the kitchen, sometimes it is quite hot, sometime not so, but always a favorite Pakistani chicken dish with rice. They also serve some of the best Samosas on Devon Street.

Best Indian Food In Town!!!

By Renu S |

What a wonderful experience. Special shout out to LaLa (hope I spelt it right). We ordered the Chicken Biryani, Pasanda Kabab, Malai Chicken and Chicken Makhani. Delightful. Each bite was better the last. I would highly recommend this place if you want to experience great Indian food.

Not really Indian food,

By Andrew A |

First of all, an Indian restaurant that serves beef is a big red flag to me. Served raw onions and tomato slices with salad dressing before the meal, which was also very odd, the chicken pakoras were not quite right, light tempura type batter instead of the normal pakora batter. The nann was doughy the paratha was nearly a popadom. The entrées were kind of bland and something was just not quite all the way finished about them. Not to mention the rice and bread being being extra and the price not being cheap already. I can not recommend it. I have been to dozens of Indian restaurants around the world and this was one of my least favorable dining experiences.

Yesss (Repeat customers)

By 1MysteryShopper |

Definitely recommend, highly! Clean, authentic, attentive service, delicious food and nice setting. The butter chicken done "mild," is a safe bet for those unfamiliar with the cuisine and looking to branch out. (Chicken makhani) The biriyanis are worth ordering to take home if you live close enough...we're quite far but appreciate the food so much!

Quality of food & service.

By travelerwithtaste_41 |

I tried second time this restaurant in Chicago,IL.Their food is terrible ( both taste wise & quality wise as we'll). They have a number of waiters & you do not know who is taking care of you!! A number of them serve you & you have tell each one of them if you need something. We had ordered Chicken tikka & seekh kabob. Tikka was burnt & was looking like a burnt piece of coal.Amazingly ,it was cold from inside. It was pointed out to a waiter who just listened & walked away.Again a second person was told about our problem who after awhile brought a replacement which too was cold from inside.

A Great Place for Pakistani Food

By Henry D |

I went there with my daughter and her Indian boyfriend. He loves this place because they have authentic Nihari, which we had and enjoyed. Overall the food was excellent. The reason for 4 stars and not 5 is their Biryani was a huge pile of rice with practically zero meat. It was tasty but considering the amount of meat we got with the other dishes it was disappointing. The other comment was that they have large portions. We could have had two dishes for the three of us and still had leftovers.

Good Nihari … BUT…

By Husker Fan |

Nihari meat was very tender sauce consistency was very good, but it was lacking flavor and spice level. Naans were dry, not soft like they traditionally are. Service was great! Very clean space, including clean bathrooms.

Superb Indian food, quick but indifferent service

By ShreeshComms |

The mutton was succulent, the bread really fresh, the Biryani equally good. Ambience ok, hygiene on table a bit lower than what I would expect from a successful restaurant like this one. They need paper mats. Too busy to expect personalized service, but hey, who cares when you are there to gorge on delicious food.

You NEED to have to Nihari here

By Aarij Z |

Sabri Nihari is one of those top notch halal places to go to in Chicago, and its prominence is well deserved. The naan is perfectly cooked and their nihari is just incredible. The nihari has got a perfect blend of spices-giving it that incredible taste. Also, I would recommend getting the Frontier Chicken to combo up with your nihari and naan. But whatever you do, DON'T MISS OUT ON THE NIHARI!

Fantastic evening

By ukamin1 |

Good food quality and best value and good place vary good family restaurant in Chicago good good good

Nicely done

By lindastremmel |

The restaurant is not traditional Indian, which we knew, so it was an adventure to begin with. The food was quite yummy although the Lamb specialty was mostly bones. Good flavors. Pretty spicy. The Dal Palak was just average - again not traditional style - but not great. I liked the frontier chicken. Good sized portions but no rice comes with i. Since they recommended two hans we skipped the rice. No dessert. The restaurant was even busier when we left at 10p than when we arrived at 8:30p… Nice friendly staff and quick service even though it was busy. No liquor served

Nice Pakistani food

By sashokpandian |

We went for dinner and we had to wait for more than 30 minutes to get a table here. The place was very much crowded. After we got seated, the service was friendly. Food was great. We tried most of the Non-Veg items in the menu and all were very good.

Still the place to visit for Pakistani food in Chicago

By A K |

Visited them after a while. They have renovated and improved service. Ordered their famous nihari (beef shank pieces in spicy stew). It was delicious. Portion was huge- I mean easily enough for two people for one order. Ordered naans (clay baked flat breads).Did not like naans, as they were crispy and thin. With nihari, one need softer bread. For desert, had rasmalai (one of the delicicacies). Good size and delicious. Service was very prompt, but severs can learn to smile a bit. Overall, a good experience and would go ther again.

A Culinary Delight

By kami73 |

A delight! Food is excellent and the size of the dishes are generous. Have been eating there for more than a decade now. Specialties are Nihari and Seekh fry. All the dishes are excellent! Highly recommended!

A Long Drive for a Lackluster Meal

By JeffB203 |

We drove from Peoria excited for an authentic Pakistani lunch. We have been here before but this seemed less impressive. We ordered chicken Thika, pasanda, Karahai Goat, palek paneer and Bihari Kabob and Nan. The NaN was fresh and yummy. The meat dishes were undersized and were not as flavorful as we remembered. In general just an ok experience. Hopefully this is not the pinnacle of Devon Street.

Not as expected.

By shiraz2015 |

Food ordered was not as per the expectations and not as what we usually eat at Sabri in Karachi. Went there to satisfy my desi taste bud, rather it was better to go and eat at a local Desi eatery at Devon.

Excellent

By The G |

Excellent location, food, service and ambiance. Must try the famous sabri nihari dish-best of my life. Also the chicken karai was the best I had in my life. Biryani was solid so was raita. Probably the best Desi foods I've had in usa and Canada.

A true India treat

By avanthikamathur |

We visited this place on one of our friend's birthday. The décor is very modern and the ambience was very welcoming. Service was good and food was very tasty. Lamb biryani and kebabs are recommended. Make a reservation to get a good table if you are a big group. We will be back soon.

Great for novice to Pakistani cuisine - gotta try Chicken charga

By Lou_per |

In exploring Chicago's ethnic cuisines, we were unsure of where to start on Devon Avenue, with its multiple blocks of South Asian restaurants, markets, clothing, and other shops. We asked Pakistani co-workers for recommendations They said Sabri Nihari is THE place to go and try Pakistani food, saying that the only down-side of this restaurant is that it is usually packed. Nice decor. Staff are graciously helpful and attentive, taking the time to explain what some of the ingredients are, although the place was full of late-night diners, even on one of the coldest nights of the year. Chicken charga was dazzling, a classier version of Buffalo chicken wings - coated, deep-fried whole chicken, covered in a hot vinegary sauce.. order 35min ahead, arrives whole and wrapped in aluminum foil with a knife sticking out... best eaten immediately! Beef nehari was amazingly tender and its velvety sauce was a symphony of flavors. Vegetarian samosas had excellent flakiness. Frontier chicken had the right level of spice to make it exciting but not overwhelming. Faluda dessert was just right for a cool finish. Very generous portions and so we took home enough leftovers for another meal. Street parking is not too hard to find within a few blocks.

best Pakistani/Indian food

By aquaSpringfield |

I love their Nihari and other dishes l. My daughter ordered Beef qeema samosas and love the taste, those were not oily but crispy and very tasty.Their Nan is also very good. I felt back home . Resturant atmosphere is very good, upscale and organized, I like the excellent customer service. we enjoyed the food and will go bak there when we will vist Chicago agian.

Authentic and delicious

Many traditional and authentic Pakistani dishes. Waiter are attentive, friendly, and knowledgeable -- even offered to take a picture of us enjoying our meal. Pricing was reasonable. Food is served family style, fresh and hot naan, and quick service.

Excellent Pakistani Food

By DavisLoveIII |

We attended the Randolph Street Market and wanted some Indian food or something like it. We walked around West Devon Avenue which is full of great shops and restaurants. We decided to try Sabri Nihari......what a brilliant move! The atmosphere is very nice, clean and classy. The whole menu looked great, made it hard to decide. We ordered garlic naan, Vegetable Pakora, Mattar Paneer, Frontier Chicken, and Vegetable Biryani. The naan was very good. The Pakora was average. Frontier Chicken was delicious, great spicing, nice and tender. The Paneer was the best we ever had. As good as the other dished were, the Biryani was crazy delicious. I should add that the portions are huge....we love to have leftovers. These folks have their act together. Excellent food....can't wait to return.

Amazing food!👍

By sainbasha |

No trip to chicago can be complete if you do not visit Devon Avenue and no trip to Devon Avenue can be complete if you do not have a meal at Sabri! You can never be disappointed. We reached the place around 7.39 pm and asked for a table for 8. There was around a 10 minute wait and we got out table. We ordered nihari, brain masala, daal, qeema fry and naan. Food was served within minutes and piping hot. Taste excellent. All were really good. Quantity also was pretty large servings. Overall place was nice, simplistically done and ambience was neat and simple. Prices also quite reasonable. Must visit when in Chicago.

Superb Nihari ...

By Khurram Hussain |

I had heard a lot about Sabri Nihari on Devon Street so when we went to Chicago, this was the first restaurant I went to. Parking is a big issue, I had to roam around for nearly 20 minutes before finding a spot. However, first timers - please call Sabri Nihari before going, they have reserved parking available for restaurant customers a few blocks away. It will save you a lot of time. I did not order anything but the Nihari so can not comment on the quality of other dishes but Nihari was to die for and worth the 20 minutes of time I spent to find a parking spot. The restaurant is clean and the service is also good. If you are travelling to Chicago, for business or pleasure and you like spicy and asian cuisine, Sabri Nihari is a highly recommended place to go for food.

Loved it .. Loved it

By foodtester214 |

Awesome food , great price and atmosphere ... we love the taste of Nihari , and naans were grrrreat ... we loved it ..

Delicious food

Enjoyed Pakistan food here. It was tasty. The service was fast and the staff was couteous. Nice ambience and overall great experience.

Pasanda Kabob was the Ka-BOMB!!!

By Jiv S |

wanted to try something I'd never had before. Mudassiv suggested the Pasanda Kabob and I'm so glad he did. It was sooo tasty and spice level was perfect. My wife enjoyed the Dal and the children loved the Chix Makhani.

Great Nihari

By Rajeev_Nangia |

The place has been around for so long and so popular too that it is a kind of local landmark . Spacious with good service and comfortable sitting . A must try is their signature dish , the Nihari , served sprinkled with crispy fried onions and ginger Julians , this is one of the best renderation of this dish i have had , globally . They also do a really delicious Pasands . Please be warned like all good Pakistani restaurants , the food is very rich with spices and an overdose of fat ./ Ghee , still a very singular and hearty treat . Highly recommended must visit . Enjoy

Disappointing Experience !!

By Yamini J |

Sabri Nihari is constant with Chicago and esp with Devon Street, however this time, I was slightly disappointed with the way things happened. We were a group of 4 adults and 1 teenager. To start, we ordered a lot of appetizers like Chaplee which I loved, Shammi Kabab, Bihari kabab, Paya, for main course we ordered Sabri Nihari, Seekh fry, Karahi gosht, Naan, Paratha and Biryani. And thats where , half way through the food , we saw a DEAD FLY on our biryani. It was a charcoaled fry which meant it hadn't just dropped then but was in it since the start. To our utmost surprise , our server was not at all apologetic, furthermore he said since its Ramzaan and we busy and I quote :: "" Hope you understand". It wasn't the fly that effected me , but the approach by the server that made me feel really bad. I am not very sure, if I will visit it again.

Best Indian/Pakistani food on Devon

By Ross Naylor-Tatterson |

We went for lunch and ordered the best vegetarian samosas followed by the Dahl, palak paneer, and their famous frontier chicken dish. There were three of us and we had to box jump and bring home at least 50% of this most delicious meal. The staff were delightful, hospitable and the decor was very pleasant. I highly recommend this place.

Avoid.

By Sandeep Jain |

We usually check trip advisor rating. This place was ranked high. However we were very disappointed. The ambience is average. It's not kept clean. The food is the big disappointment. There were very little flavor. The kebabs were hard and dry.

Nice dining experience!

By Ram P |

During our recent visit to Chicago we went to this place for lunch having heard great reviews for this place. It sure is nice the staff friendly and helpful. We ordered Frontier chicken, garlic naan and goat Biryani all three were good especially the frontier chicken. Definitely recommend!

Excellent tasting food... most important the food smells so good and tastes just the right taste.

By Hassan M |

the place is good neat and clean but they have to improve on their lighting.they can also improve on the table clothes quality ... the ingredients they get i am sure is from India or Pakistan .

Awesome pakistani food

By Barry F |

Family of four visited on mother's day: Mom got a rose as a free gift from the hostess! Waiter was very helpful to guide us through the menu, and all staff were very friendly and attentive. Food was simply awesome. Fantastic, complex flavors with plenty of spice. We shared three dishes and each one was excellent, and so much food that we had leftovers to take home. Dessert was fun and delicious. HIGHLY recommended! It was also great to walk around Little India: the neighborhood it is located in.

Excellent food

By Jeevanantham P |

The best chicken I ever had is the Chicken Tikka Botti served in this hotel. Best hotel in Devon street for non-veg lovers.

Average service

By Swedishgirlinus |

I don't have a lot of experience with Indian or Pakistani foods, but what we had was good. The samosas were great, frontier chicken, grilled chicken and some butter chicken were good. The service was just average. The waiter was not very accommodating, and i felt like he was giving us a slight attitude for not knowing all the dishes. He also forgot our drinks and the food wad spicy of course and we needed them. The menu came with pictures and not one if our dishes looked like they did in the picture, not even close. We were also missing a yogurt dip for the chicken, it was in the menu, and he said it didn't come with it. We also asked for our leftover rice to be split up to go to two places with our chicken, but we only got one container, so i have no rice for my food now. We will try another place next time, spent way too much money here to not walk away completely satisfied.

One of Devon Avenues greats

By firststarontheleft |

Huge quantities, open very late (we came in after a show at around 1030pm and were welcomed in), pleasant and helpful staff, great tasting food (though the mutton biryani was a huge disappointment), reasonably priced, great ambiance, and clean bathrooms. Happy travels!

Amazing Nihari and Falooda

By Azfar A |

If you are in Chicago, this is the first restaurant you need to come to for Pakistani food. They serve the best beef nihari and the best naan. And for desert, you should order the kulfi falooda. I also tried their daal gosht, which was not bad. The chicken boti was not special at all, so I guess their bbq is not so good. But their curries and naan are awesome. And dont expect Karachi style nihari, but for North American standards, it is one of the best nihari's you will ever eat.

Best Nihari

By mirza n |

Pakistani/Indian resturant . Friendly staff. Food is served fresh , bread is freshly baked. We tried Nihari ( beef curry) it's hot and spicy but tasty. Do not order more than 1 dish for 2 people because you will end up taking it home as they give you more than enough food. Finding a parking in the area is a challenge so be aware but it's worth the effort.

Spring Break

By habibmir |

Decent atmosphere/ambiance. Clean. Quick service. Amazing food. Good for family as well as business and casual dining

Will not return

By Midwood |

My family of four visited on a recent Saturday night. We were seated quickly and ordered fairly quickly. Then we waited and waited and waited. All around us, diners who had arrived after us were getting their food. We asked a waiter and he said "soon." Then we waited some more. I think it took about 35 minutes for the food to arrive and there were no apologies offered. We had ordered two types of naan. We're used to getting naan before the entrees. Not here. One came with the entrees; one came about 10 minutes later. The second naan (with potatoes) was greasy. The rest of the food was good, but nothing to write home about. And the place was noisy and somewhat dirty. The strip of toilet paper on the floor near our table did not improve our appetites. And as another reviewer wrote, the staff is disorganized. There doesn't seem to be any rules regarding who is to do what and how to serve/take orders. All in all, we were very disappointed, especially considering the other reviews. We won't be going back.

Great place to eat - feels like home

By Kalalia |

great food. authentic Pakistani food. Long wait time so do reserve space or arrive early to find a spot. it is a popular place to eat so weekends are very busy.

Incredibly delicious!

By Omer G |

Every time I am in Chicago I have to go to Sabri Nihari. This place is the epiphany of Indian food. You will never be disappointed!

Most terrible food

By Naeem K |

We have been to this place few times just because they used one of the reputable name but food quality is keep going down and down This time it was just totally disgusting food It wasn’t fresh cutlery wasn’t clean plates were broken and when we tried to complain no one wanted to listen I would just suggest to stay away from this place

Delicious & Filling Food

By nidhinsimon |

This is one of our favorite restaurants in Devon street. During peak hours we have to wait for 30-45 mins to get a seat, and another 15 mins to get the food - but the food is definitely worth the wait. Agreed the wait seems to be a bit too long, but the place is always so crowded and they dont accept reservations so you have to be a bit patient. The tried and tested dishes being Fried fish, Karahi Ghost and Frontier chicken rice (must try for chicken lovers). Chaplee kabab was ok. Veg selections are just the basics, the mattar panner is good. You can top it all up with a yummy Faluda.

Best Nihari in mid-west

By Gordo96 |

I eat Nihari all around the world - it's a beautiful, special dish. It's rare to find an outstanding example... but Sabri doesn't disappoint, getting 5/5: Rich, delicious, beautifully seasoned and spiced gravy. Generous 3 pieces of slow cooked meat, soft on the tongue. Excellent service, excellent, spicy & delicious vegetable side-dishes (especially the okra) Not to be missed

Good food but ok service

By Restless_Explorer |

They have some good and hard to find dishes in their menu . However, the service could be improved in terms of properly placing the food in the table and not dropping food all around when collecting the dishes.

One of the best!

By Mariyah H |

Hands down - I must say that this is one of the best Pakistani restaurant that serves authentic food. The nihari is delicious with a generous serving. Love the Haleem too. I do wish the bathrooms were more well lit and more clean, though. Overall, great experience consistently.

Delicious Food, Little Else to Recommend It

By Tricia M |

The food was definitely amazing, I will give them that. Everybody's meals were well-prepared, fresh, flavorful, and my spicy dish was actually spicy. I'm not usually one to complain much about the atmosphere of a place, but there was a very strong smell of sewage in this place. We thought maybe it had been coming from outside and we just didn't notice it til we got inside, but nope - when we went back out, there was no sewage smell anywhere. The staff was mostly attentive, though we would go through long periods (such as when we initially arrived and when we were waiting for our check) that nobody paid attention to us. The prices were fine, but there are plenty of good Middle Eastern restaurants in the area that are delicious and cheaper than this one. Overall, I'd call this place so-so. The food is great, but like I said, that's really all it has going for it. That's not enough to get me to go back, especially given the dearth of other options in the area, but maybe it's good enough for others!

Best pakistani food in chicago

By WillRateYou |

This place is must go if u visiting chicago area or live in chicago, we tried their BBQ, nihari, and flooda everything had authentic pakistani taste to it. Highly recommend!!

Great place

By Hijabicycle |

It was so great to have a good home cooked meal in a nice clean restaurant. My future husband and I are thinking of having them cater out wedding reception. Janeji34 islamophobic review is ridiculous. I have been there with a group of women, and we were treated very well. If people were looking at her and her white friends, then she got a taste about what it is like every single time I go to a restaurant as a woman of color. White people stare just as much as others - hold your self accountable before you make judgements on others.

You cannot get wrong with this place

By atifs2016 |

Its always a great pleasure to visit this place, very consistent in offering the best of Pakistani food. Its one place I can send you without any thought ..Sabri offers the best of food and service. Its fresh and cooked in correct fashion by prof chefs.

Real good food, real Indian taste.

By Shiva |

I was so skeptical about this place as I thought it's just going to be another place with a Indian brand. But to my surprise the food was very delicious that I purely enjoyed their soft Paratha and their Chicken masala. The Nan were a little hard bit nothing to complain about. Their Biryani was really close to the Indian Flavor. Finally I got the tingle I wanted. The ambience is not that good, the place is noisy and crowded. They also will not have the fancy service of an American restaurant. 3 adults had tummy full for plus packed home some leftovers for just $50. Expect good tasty food, nothing else.

Food is good but service is not

By paramita D |

we went to Sabri in Chicago. It's food is good, we ordered mutton biriyani and frontier chicken. Both dishes are very good. But we are not satisfied with their service. They tried to rid off guest very quickly. It seems they are in a hurry, why? I really don't . As a whole their food is good , but delivery approach is not. Next time we will try any other Pakistani or Indian restaurant in Devon street, Chicago.

Best Pakistani food showcased here!

By The Happy Traveler |

Excellent food every time. Naazir our waiter was very friendly and attentive to what we needed for drinks and condiments. He remembered me from over a year ago! He's an excellent waiter! Restaurant was very clean and everything was pleasant. Our meal was amazing with all the entrees bursting with flavor! Sabri is a very reliable restaurant to bring friends and family alike. I tried their beef Bihari kabob and really loved it with naan. It was so flavorful. A must try along with Bihari, biryani and all the other entrees! Hard to decide when everything is so delicious!

Wow Nihari in Chicag

By IrfanNoman |

On a travel for many days and missing our local food. What else you can than a good Nihari. Restaurant in area of little subcontinent Devon. Decor was nice but above of all food was excellent. We tasted Nihari and BBQ and loved both. Staff was also friendly and nice.

If you like South Asian food you will bw happy here. If you love Nan you will be ecstatic.

By Patrick J |

The place is very clean and well set up. The staff is very courteous and helpful. The meal was better than most. I love Nan (some spell it naan) and their garlic Nan was fantastic. I bought an extra to take home. I was with a fussy eater that liked her food and enjoyed the garlic Nan as much as I. It was priced fair but not thrifty. It is worth the price and take your time eating. It is a comfortable place.

Best Restaurant

By Sadiq S |

Its so far best restaurant during my visit and food is delicious and comparable to best restaurants in Pakistan. Keep up the good work and quality.

Good food away from home

By AngiodocRana |

Had a lunch last week. Good food and service. Would recommend Nihari, Fried Kebabs and barbecue. Top it up with Lassi

Best Pakistani on Devon

By skibeach19 |

Lives up to its reputation for great Pakistani food. The service was great and there is a wide selection of dishes on the menu. The lamb kabab's and nihari were awesome. Worth the drive to Devon st from downtown

Dirty Plates...ran for the hills

By Shreemaan |

OK...the dirty broken plate that welcomed us to our table was a sign of coming disaster...although I must admit the table next to us had some delicious looking food..... After we were told there was NO BAR..... We promptly ran for the hills ...that is...to another place down the street!!! Cheers and good luck..but no thanks!!

Fancy but average

By Suzann |

Our meal was okay, nothing bad to say but not outstanding for the high prices and all the hype that surrounds this restaurant. The waitstaff was friendly and helpful. The atmosphere sets the expectation that you'll have an exceptional meal, but in reality it wasn't something I would go back to if I were in town again.

Nihari is sooo good!

By Mehreen R |

I have always wanted to eat at Sabri’s everytime i visit chicago, but finally went this time. As far as ambiance and everything, pretty decent. It was even busy on a monday! Food was good as expected .Nihari was excellent! “Haleem” and “Paya” tasted excellent! This was by far the best tasting nihari i had in a long time. Only thing i didnt like was some of the plates were chipped, and i could guess the servers werent being too careful in cleaning up tables. while we were eating, there was ALOT of NOISE on the neighbouring tables as servers were trying to clean the tables and it was pretty distracting. The restrooms were pretty clean too.

Worth a visit for Pakistani food

By MillerDan |

If you’re interested in trying Pakistani food, Sabri Nihari is as good as any place to start on this street on the Far North Side of Chicago justly famed for its India-Pakistani shops and restaurants. We dined with four friends, two of whom recently returned from teaching assignments in Karachi, and they testified to the genuineness of the extensive vegan and non-vegan menu. The remaining four of us had no trouble finding satisfying meals among grilled, fried, kabobed, curry and seafood dishes. Accommodating wait staff is eager and delighted to help in selections. Spices and sauces abound in the dishes, and diners can choose their heat from mild to cauterizing. Beef and chicken variations predominate, mixed or enlivened with vegetables including cilantro, ginger, garlic and tomatoes. Desserts include ice cream, mangoes and fried items. Note: no alcohol allowed. The larger of two bright dining rooms features no soft fabric on the walls or floor and many tables for families and groups of eight or more. The result is a very noisy dining experience. After dinner around 8 p.m., Devon Avenue was crowded with shoppers and diners of many ethnic groups, making for a thoroughly enjoyable visit.

Sabri nihari- Great food

By jenny f |

Great food especially Mutton briyani. reasonable pricing. They remodeled the building and we actually became frequesnt visitors after that.

Good nihari and chicken karahi

By emesk |

The restaurant is clean and spacious. Parking can be a problem. The chicken karahi and Nihari are family favorites. Service is fast, but mistakes are sometimes made. These are quickly set right though.

Especially for Karachites!! Best place.

By Suno69 |

A must visit restaurant in Chicago. No doubt one of the best Pakistani cuisine. True nihari taste as it supposed to be.Pasandey kabab is my fav there. Mouth watering turmeric chutney yummy! Nice ambiance and good customer service. If you visit, keep this restaurant on your list...

Fine dining restaurant on Devon Street

By kiltmaker2 |

This is among the top Indian/Pakistani fine dining restaurant on Devon Street, Chicago. Variety of food, nice ambiance and friendly staffs

Delicious Pakistani Food

By Marc13510 |

After exploring the Devon Avenue area, my wife and I were hungry. We arrived for a very early dinner and found the place ready. The servers were very helpful and courteous. My wife and I eat at restaurants featuring food from Pakistan and India on a regular basis and were pleasantly surprised at the variety of options on the menu. We appreciate when a restaurant menu includes the standard plus includes some other options that one might not expect. The food was all very delicious and the portion sizes generous.

Best Pakistani food In USA

By Faisal F |

I have visited this place about 5 times and i was never disappointed. Their food, service and tradition is unleashed. I have seen people of all races enjoying their food. This is spirit of true America and they are uniting people via food. Keep it up Sabri's you are the best

Will return back

By aekb |

The best food I ate for a long time outside my home: yummy!. The food was tasty, nice to the eyes (full of colors), fair prices, good portions ... As a family we enjoyed it! The leftover I just ate is even tastier than yesterday ... The only drawback is the lack of choices on the menu for kids who do not eat spicy really spicy food (except plain rice). Also, the water was not good so we ended up ordering 1 Sprite and 1 coke despite we do not take soft drinks. Will come back!

Delicious Food & Excellent Service!

By LynsO2010 |

This restaurant features authentic Pakistani food. Everything we ordered was delicious....samosas, nihari, chicken biryani and chicken makhni. The garlic naan was awesome too! The food was served quickly and tasted amazing! The staff is very friendly & welcoming. Will definitely return again!

Good is not that good

By Fayaz K |

Very poor service, not so friendly staff and the food is alright. Prices are not bad but I would rather pay more and get good quality food. And the staff needs more training.

Best Indian food in Chicago

By weekendertravel_1 |

Have tried this multiple times . Waiters even know us ☺️. No suburb restaurant can beat this one overall . Try the goat biryani - only available on weekends and the gosht . Kebabs ok . Have had better . Frontier chicken is good too . Avoid the Haleem . Avoid carry out . Never as good - have got spoiled food or burnt biryani . We always order and eat and if we are in a rush pretend to eat and pack the rest ! Way better then .

Great Experience

By FahimNY |

The food was delicious. Ambience was above expectation. Must stop if you are in Chicago area and like Pakistani food.

Terrible place----DO NOT GO THERE

By SUJITT_13 |

We went to this terrible place based on our friends recommendation. To start off we had to wait at the door for more than 20minutes. They do not even have a proper waiting area. Once seated we requested hot drinking water for a person in the family and 3 nans + tandoori roti with the food. They only got the 3 nans and had to request them to get the roti. The waiter behaved as if he was doing us a favor by serving the originally ordered roti. To top it he tried to charge us for 4 nans and a roti instead of 3nans and a roti. Since the hot water did not arrive with the food order we told the person serving food the same request. Still after 10mins when we did not get it we asked for the manager to help us. He promptly got the water, only it was hot water from tap (foaming in the glass). We then explained to heat the water in a microwave for a minute. It then took them another 10minutes to get the hot water which by this point was not even warm. To top it he said here is your hot water. The food was ok. If you want a free fall walking on there slippery floor and horribly rude service please do visit this place.

Great Food, MUST VISIT !!

By iwky_85 |

This is one of the best Pakistani restaurants in US. Every time I visit Chicago, I MUST go there. Customer service is excellent. They are busy on the weekends, so there may be a waiting time. The restaurant is clean and nicely decorated. I have tried: Nihari (Beef steak with gravy and naan) - this is an absolute MUST. Chappli Kabobs, Biryani, Chicken Karahi were also really good. Their Naans are excellent. For dessert, FALUDA is my favorite. HIGHLY RECOMMENDED !!

Frontier Chicken

By Rolf A |

A superbly flavored Pakistani chicken dish called Frontier Chicken with rice and raita is my favorite combination of flavors here. It's a family place with many children learning culinary traditions that the parents seem to have learned before they came to the US. The wait staff is friendly and courteous. Sabri nihari is a worthy destination or a stop when on Devon.

Authentic Karachi food

By Jkahn059 |

Its always pleasure and excitement to visit this place. Food is always very good, owners and staff are very nice. They always accommodate your request. Overall restaurant is very clean.

Delicious!

By Vacation332738 |

The menu is full of great selections. We started with beef samosas. They were a little spicy and cooked perfectly, crispy, and moist inside. We also tried the Sabri Nihari, a delicious stewed beef, with jasmine rice and naan. The naan was hot from the oven and delicious. We had several tasty vegetable dishes and unique desserts. Each dish was flavorful and well spiced. The service was very good and the people friendly. I will definitely go back!

Nothing great

By An_the_travellor |

Well the title says it all. Nothing great about the food. The decor was nice and shiny though. The waiter was ok and food came out fast. We ordered Malai Boti and Chicken Biriyani. Food was bland. Will not visit again.

Long way short of a good Indiam meal

By Laher2016 |

We visited this restuarant all the way from our hotel in downtown Chicago after reading some reviews posted. Firstly, the lady at reception in Hijab was unfriendly and arrogant, the waiters treated you with a mild neglect and the curries were all abominal. The chicken karahi had the rib carcass of the chicken and was full of oil with red food colouring, possibly cochneal. My hands smelt for hours even after scrubbing and with lotion. The one star is for the grilled fish which was edible. Rice was dry, paratha drenched in yellow oil and haleem recipe one of the worst i have eaten globally. The management should come to the UK so they can clearly get a lesson in good Indian / Pakistani food and service. This restaurant is one depicted 30 years ago!! With Ubers a $150 wasted today!

Good food@ Devon Street Chicago

By unnikrisb |

I had a good mutton biriyani after a long half hour wait. Even though its crowded at entrance and seatings we got table for four adults and a kid. At first we got onion and tomatoes salad with tamarind chutney and mint chutney. We ordered mutton biriyani, chicken biriyani and veg biriyani. Also a chicken tikka kebab with tamarind and mint chutney. Food was good. Recommend this place.

Great Quality Indian Pakistani Food

By syedaiyaz |

Great value, good quality lip smacking food. You will keep coming again and again. Prices are right, portions are great. They might do well to add a few more items to their menu. Goat Briyani, Nihari, Frontier Chicken and Gosht are favorites.

RUDE!

By Akshi K |

The receptionist was extremely condescending and rude. The food is very spicy. Ghareeb Nawaz was much better biryani. Eating at a restaurant should be a good experience, this rates very low because of the service. Disappointing!

PAKISTANI & EXCELLENT

By CT-Traveler |

This place is for the native guy to have a true taste of home. Decor, crowd, ambiance, none of it is fancy. The food however, will take you to the streets of Lahore, the food capital of Pak. I have tried a number of their dishes and most of them are excellent. However, Frontier Chicken & Sabri Nihari clearly steal the show. Be prepared to sharpen your palette before trying the nihari as the spice level may be too hot for some!

I love everything in non-veg here

By ashishb |

Love almost every non vegetarian thing they serve. However the veggie curries are not up to the mark. But, if you are a spicy non-veg lover - this is heaven. I visit there often to taste the biryani, chicken or mutton curry and yess - the falooda at the end :)

Highly recommend for Pakistani food

By Smuzzie1 |

My husband's family is Pakistani and my mil is the best cook out there so I tend to be picky when it comes to Pakistani restaurants. We invited some friends to meet us there for dinner and I am so glad I picked this place. Nothing is as good as your mom's authentic food but they come pretty close. The entrées we tried had enough heat and were not too sweet like other places. We ordered pakoras, beef samosas, frontier chucked, nihari, mutton biryani, grill plate, and palak daal. Everything was good but the nihari and palak daal were the stars for me. My boys loved the grill items. Service was good. Portions are big so we had a lot of food left and our server packed everything very nicely.

Nice restaurant

By Manuel365 |

Food is pretty descent here. Try their Frontier Chicken my favorite dish. They also have a good Brain Masala. Service is decent too and the food comes out fast. I would recommend this place if anyone wants to try authentic food.

Nostalgia Visit

By AKK2050 |

We landed in Chicago and rented a car and drove straight to Sabri Nihari as we had been craving all Ramadan to eat a Karachi style Nihari - it was worth everything and not only my wife and I loved it but our Kids too. Frontier Chicken and Chicken Tikka were delicious too. We kept ourKarachi tradition by ordering a Falooda and Kheer and loved every scoop. Strongly recommended for all Pakistanis especially from Karachi.

Awesome

By Dashai H |

Awesome service! Great food! Employees as a whole was on point! It's synchronized beautifully! No compliants!

Good food. need to add more options

By rukkunudeen r |

The items are limited and different from other standard restaurants. the taste was also good. it is also priced more.

Tastes fresher than most indian restaurants

By FarzShaj |

We ordered Chapathi and Naan with Frontier Chicken it was awesome and mango Lassi tasted yummy. One of the best Indian Restaurants in Chicago. I have recommended it to all my friends and i will definitely visit again.

Fantastic Briyani

By Max T |

Location: Somewhere in India town Place: Clean and quiet. Service: Excellent. Waiters were fast, attentive. I found them offering suggestions to a couple from another country on unfamiliar items in the menu. Quick service after placing order. Food: Excellant. I have eaten Briyani's in many Indo/Pak/Bangla restaurants before, but honestly I can vouch that this was the best I've ever tasted. So flavourful, yet not too spicy. Sweet Lassi was awesome. Should try if you are a fan of a good briyani.

Take order, not so good!

By Vipali P |

I ordered the chicken biryani and butter chicken with Naan. And I order here at least once a month but yesterday when I ate my food. That biryani had so much black peppers and all the seasonings. And less chicken and barely rice in there. This is the 1st time, my biryani was so ugh and it was so dried, I was really disappointed at there food quality this time! I love the butter chicken and Naan.

Best Nihari in America!!!

By AdnanMir |

This is the best Nihari I have ever had, it was so good that we came here all the nights that we were in Chicago. Apart from the Nihari we also had a the butter chicken and the briyani, the briyani was a miss but the butter chicken was spot on. If you want authentic Pakistani food you cannot go wrong with Sabri Nihari.

2 visits in 2 days

By Ojha01 |

Nihari is just excellent. Karachi kee yaad agayee. But sadly they don't know how to make BBQ. Roti is pretty fine. Samoosa is excellent. Here again today so let's see how it goes.

Try the Nehari

By Hammad |

Nehari and seek fry are probably the only two items I would recommend here. The naans are good. Servers don't pay attention so you might want them to repeat the order before they ruin your meal. Don't ever order Chicken Makni was horrible. They claim to use boneless chicken but it's more like shredded chicken. Not worth your money !

Amazing Food!

I relocated to another city, after 15 years in Chicago. I have eaten at most of the places on Diwan and around the suburbs. Nothing compares to Sabri Food. The best in USA.

Yummies food

This place is one paradise for kebab lovers . So , we drove to Devon Street for dinner during the Labor Day long weekend ... damn hungry and tired after a long drive . To our dismay the place was very much like “house full” . There was no place to stand .., and waiting ETA for a table was some 30-45 minutes . So we gave our name in the waiting list .., and then were checking others restaurants in the street . Let me tell you .,, Most others were empty .. seems whole crowd were there at Sabri Nihari only . Finally after 45 minutes got table . Ordered starters , main course all one at a go . My fav of all were the chicken boti kebabs and Goat Paya. Unfortunately the mutton biriyani were over . Even the falooda were great . Highly recommended if you’re in Chicago

Terrible experience. We were there on Saturday evening. All the Barbecue dishes' were served to us were pre made they were microwaves and served. Price were too high. we won't recommend anyone to dine in at that restaurant. Totally ripped off.

Omg! Definitely lives up to its expectations!

Visiting from Houston, I of course had to try Sabri nihari in Chicago! So I went on a Saturday night because I wanted to go on a busy night. We'll, busy it was! But, our server was very friendly and checked on us often throughout the dibner but not aggressively. I was VERY pleased with the customer service considering my poor experiences in desi establishments back home. But anyway, the food. the FOOOOD! oh my god. I can not even begin to describe the food. But I'll try. Delicious, delectable, fresh, tasty, spicy, mouth watering, and the list goes on! We ordered an array of things, nihari, butter chicken, chicken karahi, biriyani, and mixed grill platter. When the food came out within 10 minutes of ordering I was like oh no... It's gonna be gross, that's just way too fast... But, it was the Complete oopposite. It was yummmmmy!!! I wish I could go again but my trip is almost over... But I'll definitely be back! highly recommend!

Delicious food!

I went for dinner around 9PM on a weekday with family, food was amazing! Service was very fast, and very good. The meat was really tender. Restaurant is a bit loud because of the crowd in the restaurant. Prices are fairly reasonable. Place is very clean.

Well worth the ride

A friend of mine from Pakistan suggested we try this place while traveling in Chicago, so we did and it was so worth it. It was quite the ride for us. It took us over an hour to get there from Bucktown between 45-50 minutes of train riding and another 20 minutes of biking from the train station, but it was well worth it. The food was amazing. The service was great. The value was perfect. We traveled inexpensively, but ate like kings and this was the cheapest meal out of the entire trip. I was even impressed that our server remembered our entire order without having to write any of it down. I would recommend this to anyone who takes a liking to Pakistani food.

Heard alot but not up to the mark!!

Wow! And WOW!!

Fabulous dinner! Everything cooked perfectly, wonderful flavor combinations, generous portions, and utterly reasonable prices. On top of that, very good service by friendly staff. If it's an option, it's a must-try. The mixed grill is enough with rice, a bread and one vegetarian dish for three people, at least. We look forward to a return soon!!

Used to one of the best Restaurant in Town but Not anymore

By Shakeel S |

This place has gone downhill over the last 2 years. After my last visit in 2016, I have decided that I am not returning to this overpriced so called Pakistani restaurant anymore. Prices have dramatically gone up, but taste and quality of the food has deterioted to all time low level

Variable taste

Taste is very variable, has good and bad days. On a busy weekend you would love the food and on next visit its not good at all. Need more consistency.

Busiest place on the street!

Armed with a number of recommendations in the area, we finally selected the Sabri Nihari simply because of the large number of customers already dining and it was still early ( for us it was a very late lunch). The menu s not extensive, but included a some interesting looking chicken dishes, including a whole bird house speciality (which we did not try). We both enjoyed the dishes very much (a vergy generous chicken dish and a chana daal). was

No taste..Very bad experience

By jyotikaghoshal |

We went there based on friend’s recommendation.Ordered chicken boti kebab..worst chicken kebab we ever ever had.No taste at all..chicken was raw.Looked like it was just microwaved no grill.Chicken kadhai and naan was Okay but average taste nothing special. Then ordered there famous “Mutton Biryani” there were no mutton pieces instead of that some minced meat was mixed with rice. Had terrible experience and waste of money. Will never recommend to anyone

High Quality, Authentic Pakistani Food

By Eric G |

I went with a Pakistani friend and we both loved the food. The service was fast and friendly and the vibe was pretty good too (more upscale than I expected). Most of the customers appeared to be Pakistani as well, which is always a good sign. The neighborhood is interesting, just to walk around and absorb the sites and sounds, particularly at night. It was about a 30 minute drive from downtown Chicago and well worth the trip.

Nice Portions, Adequate Pricing

This is the first time we decided to dine on Devon street which is famous for its restaurants and stores with an Indian/Pakistani flavor. Sabri Nihari was highly recommended by friends as a good place to eat. We went late afternoon and had no trouble finding seating for our party of 4. The seating area and ambiance was quite pleasant. The Menu was extensive and we settled on 5 different dishes and an appetizer. The food was a bit too spicy for my taste, but that is my fault since I did not request moderate spiciness. The portions were huge and delicious otherwise. We were dismayed that we had to order rice separately as we are used to it coming with the entrees in similar restaurants. We ordered two portions of rice but they were huge and we could easily have managed with one. Also, one personal peeve is that they do not carry fountain soda as I always prefer that over cans. Overall we had a good experience and recommend this place.
