We stopped in for dinner tonight and while the place isn't much to look at (think hole in wall- Strip mall), the food was pretty good. The place was quite crowded and even with a reservation we almost ended up seated with another party, We requested a different table and they accommodated us. We ordered within a few minutes and the food arrived about 20 minutes later. We had Tandoori Chicken, Saag Paneer, Lamb Sekuwa, and Garli Naan. All three mains and the Naan were quite good' We'll try the lunch buffet soon,

We've ordered takeout 3 or 4 times since I first visited (and gave 2 stars). The food is indeed quite good. However, you are getting a lot of oily gravy on many of the dishes, which means you're getting less meat and vegetables. The dishes are a bit pricy, but that's Austin. The most annoying thing is online ordering. For one thing, you may have problems with the display when ordering from your phone. If so, you'll see what I mean. If not, don't worry about it. But last evening, I ordered 3 dishes, one of which was goat curry. I was told the order would be ready in 30 min. My wife got there on time, and had to wait an additional 30 minutes for the order. So... 1 hour to get a take out order? The restaurant was not busy at all. The staff told her, "Sorry, this goat dish takes a long time to prepare." Couldn't resist the thought: maybe they are having a hard time catching the goat. Seriously though, maybe put a comment on the take-out menu that some dishes may take longer to prepare. If this seems like a petty complaint, imagine standing around in the front of the restaurant for 30 minutes AFTER being told your order would be ready. And being told, "Sorry, we're still cooking it." It's annoying. BTW, I'm all for leaving a tip for take-out during COVID, since the pandemic has hurt restaurant workers. But next time, we'll just wait until we get our order to leave a tip.

I found this gem through Yelp ( they are new and not listed in Trip Advisor yet ) It was listed as Indian and Himalayan Restaurant with rave reviews. My colleague and I decided to try them out. ( I was curious to try Nepalese food) Decor is clean, modern and minimal. Our server was very helpful in pointing out the nepalese dishes in the menu and describing it to us. We ended up ordering the Chicken choila and the brussels sprouts to begin with. Chicken choila was mini explosion of flavors in my mouth, so many raw spices yet so balanced and tied together with mustard oil, I can say i have never eaten anything like it before. The roasted brussels sprouts were amazing too and that saying a lot as I don't like brussels sprouts. Good I took the server's advice. For entrees we did steamed chicken momo and saffron goat curry. Momo is basically pot stickers but the filling was more meatier, well seasoned and juicy again something i have never tasted before. The goat curry was from their Indian menu and was tender and served bone in. Good mix of spices with a hint of saffron, yummy ! We wanted to try their ( Darjeeling Green Tea Cream brulee) for dessert as it was mention often in the yelp review but they were out of it so we skipped dessert all together. Over all an amazing experience. Good food and polite on the spot service.

Wonderful Indian/Nepali dishes some of which make a lovely change from the regular Saag Paneer and Tandoori Chicken offerings, not that you can't get those at Saffron either..... you can and they are well executed, too. But the scallop and MoMo dumpling appetizers as well as the fantastic goat curry and some of the less frequently encountered dishes are really worth trying. Have gone there now about 5 times and found that not only is the food excellent but service also is very friendly, efficient and polite. Prices are more than reasonable. BYOB.

Saffron has a wonderful menu. I decided not to have my usual tikka masala and instead had a lamb dish made with a delicious sauce made with pistachios. My friend had the lamb vindaloo which was spicy but flavorful. The staff is very friendly and professional. The atmosphere was very comfortable and had a beautiful mural. I'll be back here on my next visit to Austin!

I was looking for a buffet, as indicated in various yelp reviews; but that's only at lunch. Dinner was from the menu. Because I was in a buffet mood I ordered several appetizers instead of a main course and was absolutely inundated with food. Excellent pakoras, delicious Kathmandu chicken pot stickers, Manchurian gobi that I had to take home, puffy garlic naan, and a wonderful lychee lassi. Clearly too much for one person. I look forward to the leftovers. Can't wait to come back with friends so we can try more dishes. Caution: beware of the green sauce unless you like fire.

Many reviewers have noted that the overall ambience is not the most elegant, but this is more than offset by the attentive service that lands happily on side of helpful vs. annoying. Very pleasant atmosphere for a relaxing meal with friends/family. We ordered four separate curries along with vegetable pakora and samosas -- not a single flaw in the bunch. And the naan! My son, a naan snob, thought it was the best ever, and I find it hard to disagree. We did not order any of the Nepali options, so we have a good excuse to return! (And when we do return, we may opt to bump up the heat of our choices -- we're not in the "it's not good unless it leaves scorch marks in my mouth" camp of spiciness, but all of our choices were very mild, so those of you who have much more tolerance than us may want to discuss that with your server.)

My wife and I used Saffron as a meeting place from a couple from El Paso who come to Austin occasionally. Our friends had never had Indian food before and like it. We had a long visit, during which time the servers were attentive but left us to visit. The event was a great success.

Tack on a name like "Saffron", and...how can you go wrong? My first time sampling their food (as take-out), which included a protein dish with saffron, a vegetable dish, and garlic naan. The tItles of the dishes vary between the on-line menu and the printed menu, but I'll refer to the on-line menu for now. To start with, the naan was disappointing. Limp and mushy. The "Saffron Scallops"...listed as an appetizer at $9 on the Online menu, but $12 on the printed menu, NOT under appetizers, were also a disappointment. Four scallops (not "Sea" nor "bay" but somewhere in between, at barely an inch in diameter, were competently prepared but rather uninspired for a dish entitled "saffron" anything. I have next-to-nothing experience cooking with saffron, and probably could have done better. The best dish was the vegetable tandoori. It was quite good, but left me wanting more. Online, it's listed as Amritsari Seekhs. Several things on the menu look good, so I'll give them one more chance, and order 3 different dishes.

Put simply, I wish we had gone to Saffron sooner! All too often Indian food has a "tired" quality from being held too long. Not so at Saffron! You can tell you are in for a good experience as soon as the door opens. Wonderful spicy aromas greet you along with a sparkling clean interior. The menu is reasonably broad but manageable and we found the food quite good. Four of us started with Samosas, Brussel Sprouts, and Cauliflower appetizers. The Cauliflower was to me the star and was exceptional! Then for the main course we ordered Goat, Lamb in Pistachio and Cashew sauce, Chicken Tika Masala, and a vegetable plate. The Goat and Lamb were both very good to excellent. The vegetables were very good. The Tika Masala Chicken was less successful as the chicken was a bit overcooked but the sauce was very good. We will definitely be going back - OFTEN! It is worth noting that Saffron has no liquor license so you can take your own beer or wine and they gracefully provide nice glasses. A very good experience!

We were 4 friends who met for dinner, one a chef, two of us considering ourselves foodies. We shared two starters, and tried each other's main courses. Not a single negative comment. Luckily we saw it was byob as we left, giving us time to return for a bottle of red. We noticed that there is a liquor store two doors down, for future reference. Good service, very nice ambience. Loved the experience.

What a celebration of the taste buds.... Great place to enjoy delicious verity of Indian cuisine. A beautiful buffet of large variety of dishes, freshly made and constantly refreshed from the kitchen. Every dish, being the rice dishes , the chicken dishes or the vegetables dishes were made to perfection... The soup , a vegetable soup was so tasty that I enjoyed very much. A mango Yogurt drink was reach refreshing and delicious. Fresh naan (Indian bread) was brought from the kitchen constantly. An amazing place to enjoy excellent cuisine.

I love Indian food, and I noticed the other day that Saffron, the excellent Far West Boulevard restaurant, apparently took over the spot in Westlake formerly occupied by Bombay Bistro. It has been open only a few days, I gather, since there were sheets of paper pasted on the windows, announcing the opening. I decided to order the basic chicken tikki masala. If they can do that well, I thought, then it'll be a good local addition to the neighborhood. Ugh. The chicken was apparently from the tandoor -- you know, the dry, hard kind of chicken that has been cooked too long, with the sauce spread over it. I was expecting tender chicken pieces that had been slow-cooked in the sauce, with lots of juiciness. Maybe the kitchen isn't fully up and running, but serving that dish was a big mistake. I'm not sure I will return. The staff, however, was very friendly and attentive. Not sure what's happening at the new Westlake location.

A warm welcome awaits visitors to this restaurant, tucked away in a common or garden strip mall. After the host has seated you and you've had time to check out the menu, you'll notice they prepare both Indian and Nepalese dishes. After two weeks of Tex-Mex food I was well-ready for a nice Indian meal. No booze available so you can bring your own or purchase some from the liquor store 3 doors away:-) Two of us decided to order: Piri Piri Machhi, Safron Goat Curry, Chicken Tikka Masala and of course a few naans. I have ordered Chicken Tikka Masala all over the world as it's the reference dish for me with Indian cuisine: prepared well and you taste spice after spice as you work your way through the meal, done sloppily and it tastes the same from beginning to end, just like a poorly executed wine. The staff are totally on top of their game, bringing us beers from our private stash, stored in their cooler, what's not to like about that: better than home! I would absolutely go back, may even try Nepales next time!

We have now experienced the evening meal and the lunch buffet at Saffron Indian Fusion, and we have found the food to be delicious, spicy, plentiful, and reasonably priced. Definite Indian components with the added adventure of Nepalese food. Not overly "hot" from spice, but certainly not bland. The staff is more than willing to steer you toward the degree of spice you desire. The lunch buffet is a good way to sample a multitude of their dishes. Chicken MoMo highly recommended!! Service is quite good. Very enjoyable dining experience.

Came in for dinner. Ordered Rosemary/Cheese Naan, Kalonji Paneer Tika(cheese and veggies grilled), Lamb Pasanda (cashew and pistachio sauce) and Bhindi Masala (fried okra). Everything was good to very good. Good service. Not fast but totally acceptable food delivery. Recommended.

While spending time in Austin we decided to get a taste of the different flavors that the city has to offer. Found and decided to go to Saffron and we weren’t disappointed. We had a great time, enjoying good food and excellent service. The buffet offered a wide variety of choices and for a great price.

Fine Indian fusion food. Fast service and the food was well prepared and presented. Staff are super responsive and will cater to customers with a smile.

This little nook in a shopping strip in expensive Northwest Hills is a gem for those seeking far Eastern originals. It includes regional dishes from India and rare Nepalese dishes from the Himalayas. In addition to the beloved Saag Paneer, wide Tandoori choices including unique Tandoori Salmon , and Masaladar Lamb Chops, Saffron offers wonderful dishes from Nepal, including Chicken Choila, char-broiled chicken cubes tossed in raw spices and Lamb Sekuwa barbeque lamb in ginger-garlic Nepalese spices. Don't skip the Bombay Brussels Sprouts and try the broad variety buffet at lunch. Soooo good !!

Met friends at Saffron for dinner. Shared the cauliflower and Portobello mushrooms for appetizers.the cauliflower approaches 5 stars. The mushrooms are good but not as appealing. Shared a lamb vindaloo, a spinach dish, and a third dish as mains along with naan. All very good. Good service. Important to note that they allow BYOB.

The food was delicious, perhaps the best fried rice and chow mien I have eaten in a long time. I loved their Nepali-style portobello mushroom as well as all their other items. A fantastic place and was not crowded at all.

Decided to eat here because we were close by and friends had mentioned it. We were very pleasantly surprised to have excellent Indian and Nepalese food at very reasonable prices. I can recommend the Kathmandu Kothey MoMo, the sauce is quite good and adds to the overall flavor of the dish. I has asked for spice between mild and medium on my Chicken Tikka Masala and the spices were a delight to both the nose and palate, very aromatic. DH had the Saffron Chicken Lazeez, also excellent. Rice is served and replenished as needed. The staff is attentive, friendly and willing to suggest good ideas. This will quickly become our go-to for Indian . There appeared to be many people who eat there quite often, judging from the greetings by the staff. It is not fancy in decor but wow the food!!!

My Mom has been to Saffron many times and suggested it to us. We all got the lunch buffet and that is the way to go so that you can try a bunch of Indian food. On the buffet they had a good variety of spicy and mild food and everything was really delicious.

Low key, BYOB, good Indian Cuisine. I would rank this is in the top of this category in Austin. Pleasantly surprised about the good quality of the food. I have never had rosemary cheese nan but it was truly delicious. Will be back again for sure!

Needed a place to eat so we opened up Yelp and thought - Indian food? Yeah, I could do that. But then it was in a strip mall. However, it seemed crowded so we went in, and are we glad we did! First, great service. It seems like they actually want you there and happy, a great change from other Austin restaurants. We had the Aloo Chili - AWESOME! The calamari was ok, I just like mine a little crunchier. The Tandoori chicken - very good. The Chicken Masala ------ to freakin die for, delish and put the the gravy over the rice! Seriously, if you go get the Aloo chili and Chicken Masala. Excellent dishes, very spicy though! We will be back!

This is Indian Infused !! We had Saffron Salmon and Mad Lamb Chop. The curried Cauliflower was a special treat and great appetizer Infused with Chinese and Nepal Dishes.

We loved our meal here! Some of the best Indian we have ever had! Everything had layers of fabulous flavors. We had Brussels Sprout and Paneer apps followed by Goat Curry with turnip, and Lamb with Pistachio and almond sauce. And the Green Tea Creme Brulee for dessert, OMG!! BYOB, Free parking, great service and moderate prices. All of above for about $55. Only disappointment was the unflattering lighting and lack of decor.

Food was amazing! We love Indian food and eaten Indian all over the world. This place is up there in my top 5 for sure. Restaurant ambiance is not much to look at but the food makes up for it. Chicken Tandoori was delicious. My wife had the Aloo Gobi and seriously impressed! Brussel sprouts were out of this world! You can also bring your own wine and they don’t charge a cork fee! Great place for Indian food!!

This was a party of six , including two enthusiasts of this restaurant and two people very knowledgeable and discriminating people who know Indian cooking very well, and everyone loved it. The restaurant is tucked in an assuming stripmall type of setting; plenty of parking and very pleasant and quiet on a week night. The menu offers multiple options, including vegetarian dishes, although, even when shared, they tend to be too much of the same--a combo platter would be nice (this being my only reason for not giving it five stars) ; Nepalese specialties; and many meat/lamb/chicken dishes I can't comment on but everyone raved about. Excellent and very attentive service. Definitely recommended.

Waitress personable. Lamb roghan Josh tender and sauce delicious. Mushroom coconut delicious. Scallops too small and saffron sauce had no saffron flavor. The raita was terrible. Should not have served it. Was like water and had only a trace of veg. Waitress said homemade yogurt didn't process. Not sure we will go back. Atmosphere pleasant casual.

We ordered take out from here on a weeknight: Dal Makahani, Saag Paneer and Garlic Naan. Ordered by phone (super easy), it was ready in 20 minutes, prompt and friendly service. Restaurant was clean, well ordered, staff was friendly. It was about half full on a mid-week evening. Food was superb...and that was take-out so I'm sure it is even better when eaten in house. You can choose your level of spice, which is great perk for kids and parents to both get what they want. We will definitely be back.

I love, love, love Saffron's Bombay Brussels sprouts. Oven roasted with a wonderful mustard sauce and they are absolutely delicious. Our family loves the variety of dishes - nepalese dishes made from scratch in house. The variety of dishes and spices take you to the Himalayas on a trip that tickles many of your senses. Saffron is a BYOB (Bring Your Own Booze) restaurant and it's nice to bring a wine or beer to enjoy with meals. We dine here every other week - it's that good!!!

It's a new weekly tradition for my husband and I. Vibe is hip and trendy even though is in an older strip mall. Service very prompt and friendly, which makes me think likely a family operated place, I'll ask next time I go. We love everything we have had, which usually are the vegetarian options. Prices reasonable and since they don't yet have their liquor license you can bring your own wine, and they don't charge a cork fee. Great value there!

This lovely Indian and Nepali buffet restaurant serves gently seasoned chicken and vegetarian curries alongside traditional chutneys and salads. The mixed vegetable pakoda is really savory, not simply salty, like at so many other places. It will be hard, but try to save room for gulab jaman, included on the buffet. And did I mention the lunch buffet is served EVERY DAY? There is menu service and carry-out available as well.

I look forward to returning. This was easily the best meal for our family while in Austin. Excellent service and orientation on the menu. Great serving of lamb chops and deliciousl

This restaurant is buffet style and you can still order from the menu. Can tell some of the foods have Nepal style tastes but all is good tasting India food, Don't know what region of India though.

Although I've only been here for the buffet, the food was great and the staff friendly and willing to answer any questions. Unlike a lot of Indian restaurants, the food was not over spiced or salty. Their dishes were slightly different from other restaurants' dishes and overall better. I can't wait to come back and try their Nepali dishes and their desserts.

We went for their buffet lunch after church a week ago Sunday and really liked the food. My husband likes his food spicier than I do and he usually can't find a restaurant that has spicy but this place does so he was very happy. Their buffet has lots to try and they will help explain what a dish is if you have a question (or don't want spicy). My only issue was that there was something that they cooked that gave off strong fumes and made my eyes water and burn. I had a hard time staying in the restaurant but the food was so good I didn't want to leave. As that was my first time there I'm hoping it was just a strange anomaly- we will definitely give it another try!

Now that dine-in is open, we went for dine-in lunch and were very impressed. Food was quite tasty. Overall place looks great.

I recently had lunch here with my vegetarian wife. Saffron is still fairly new, there were a few people there when we arrived but it wasn't crowded and were seated and served pretty quickly. They have a cafeteria style option where you can get 2 or 3 entrees (they have both veg and meat options) and rice and sides. I opted for their chicken wrap, it came with spicy masala fries. We both thought our dishes were good, but not great. As noted, the space is clean and modern and conducive to seating larger groups, and the staff was extremely friendly and helpful. They also have Nepali food on their menu, which is unique to Northwest (and maybe most of) Austin. I wasn't blown away by my meal, but everything was decent and the menu looks interesting enough to bring me back for future visits.

I love Saffron! Such a great place! The service is great, waiters and staff are so sweet! Nepalese based Indian food, serving classics. Amazing cooking, really worth the money. And it really isn't that expensive, especially for Austin. I have had some Indian food from restaurants that are not only overpriced but also not that flavorful and just not as good a quality. This is a really great place and I have become a regular and try to convince my friends and family to go every time they're in town. You really won't regret coming here.

This was the first visit here for me wife and me. My wife likes vegetarian dishes and got the Nargeshi Malal Kofta. I had the Saffron Goat Curry with Garlic Naan. The food was a little slow in coming, but not unreasonably so. The service was very good otherwise. The decor of the restaurant was pleasant. That night, at least, Saffron attracted a number of Asian customers--good to see.

Food is amazing! Service is great. Neighborhood location ideal! Best Indian food in Austin. I go at least twice a month.

We actually got the wrong dish for one of us - but the food was great anyway. The saffron naan were a little sweet for my taste but that's more a personal preference . They brought more rice without needing a prompt and the chicken vindaloo was great. We have eaten Indian food for decades - all over the world. This was very good.

This tiny jewel of a BYOB serves some of the best Indian food in Austin. It's got a somewhat eclectic menu that doesn't really focus on a particular region, but does have the usual suspects (tandoori this, sag paneer that, etc.) The good stuff, as already mentioned, is very very good. The question tho' is "Which is the good stuff?", with the answer being "it varies". The only way to find out is to order a bunch-a things - some of which are most likely going to be great. Those items will continue to be great for a few weeks, when they mysteriously morph back into "ok, but not great", with something else taking over. Then again, this encourages experimenting, so maybe it's a feature?

Don't be put off by the strip mall exterior, this place has fantastic Indian food. We have been several times in the past month which is unusual for us to return that often to the same restaurant, but it is that good we find ourselves craving the food and must return. We've tried most of the appetizers and many of the main dishes and have found them all to be wonderful. The only problem is that it has now been discovered, as Mathew Odom, the Austin American Statesmen food critic, recently published a review giving it 9.5 out of 10 (which is a rarity for him to rate so highly). So now you really need to make a reservation (opentable) rather than just turning up and expecting a seat. So plan ahead and enjoy.

Uber eats delivery with enough food for several days. Mixed grill was delicious and a very large portion. Good value. Saag paneer was excellent. Butter chicken had lots of chicken and a tasty sauce. Dumplings were good, also with a nice dip. Garlic naan tart too. Tasty food at a fair price.

My family has eaten at Saffron twice and I attended a business-related dinner there in May. The food is delicious, especially the curries and naan, service is friendly and efficient, and there are vegan, vegetarian, and gluten-free options that worked for everyone in the large group with whom I dined. Recommended!

Our first visit was such a lovely experience that we've been back multiple times! The wait staff knows their menu and will readily discuss the dishes with you, I've never had a meal that wasn't delicious. They welcome diners to take their own wine and quickly opened and served it for us. An overall fabulous, neighborhood dining experience! They recently catered a meal that I served at my Book Club Dinner and everyone was very impressed with the quality. A gem of a restaurant in NWH's! I just hosted Book Club and they catered a perfect dinner for 10.

Having both heard about it on the radio, and radinga newspaper review, I was ready to try this new restaurant. It did not disappoint, in fact it was far better than expected. FOOD: tasty, interesting, aesthetically served, and amply portioned. SERVICE: friendly but not obsequious, knowledgeable but not haughty, and very accommodating. ATMOSPHERE: Comfortable and pleasant, but not arty or precious. NO LOUD MUSIC !!!!! Crowded, but not noisy LOCATION: In a convenient neighborhood, plenty of parking.

Wanted to love this place based on other reviews, but it just didn't happen. Went for the lunch buffet with some foodie friends a few weeks ago. Staff was very friendly and the place was busy. Buffet means quick service, since it's DIY so that's a plus at lunch. However, the quality of the food was really sad. There were some recognizable dishes (I've eaten my share of Indian food) and a few new ones to try, but nothing we ate delivered on flavor. It was a consensus from the 4 of us that this was a let down. Some have said dinner was better, but another couple we know (who are Indian) said dinner was equally disappointing. Not sure if others are not experienced in Indian food and thus happy with mediocre, but we were unimpressed and won't be going back.

Everyone is entitled to the odd 'off day' and maybe yesterday (3/17/19) was Saffrons on Far West. 2 of the 3 dishes we ordered were full of bones and not as tasty as we remember. Maybe their 'good' chief has been diverted to their new location. The girl on the front desk seemed new and a bit untrained in the operation of their payment system too. I'm hoping this isn't an all too common story of ignoring the original location while opening a new one.

Saffron has by far the best Indian food in Austin along with easy access and parking and a very comfortable at ease environment. Owner and waiters are very friendly and personable.

Me my husband and two other couples went to this hotel in june 2016.. We will all return !! ..hotel is small n clean..we booked a table an hour before..all chairs plates glasses . high chair were all ready.. the staff were friendly and service was all good.. we liked the taste of food...! we loved malai kofta ...we ordered 2 veg n 2 non veg curries for naan....as i am a vegetarian i cannot say about non veg dishes...veg dishes were very tasty...Baingan bhartha n malai kofta are the veg curries we ordered...baingan bhartha was not so good.. but malai kofta is very tasty... as i said we will surely return to the hotel...hope you all visir the hotel and enjoy the real taste n food... !!! thanks...

Excellent meal at extremely reasonable prices. A little known jewel in the Austin restaurant scene, with outstanding quality and taste of the food and first class service. Have been here frequently and enjoy the experience every time I go.

Dropped in for dinner with friends after too long a gap. They have a new menu - mostly the same but with a few new dishes to explore, but after a long absence we elected to stick with old favorites. While we have long been fans of this restaurant we felt the food last night was particularly fresh and appealing - pushing 5 stars. Very, very good. The cauliflower appetizer remains superb and the Brusseks sprouts are very good. The eggplant entree was very good and three Lamb Passander was the star of the night. The accompzntpying rice was about as good as rice gets. The garlic naan is something we consider mandatory. A great meal!

Saffron has a fairly average Indian buffet for lunch. The price is reasonable at $11, and the variety is fine. However, I went at 1:00, and they were virtually empty on several dishes which took about 15 minutes to refill. Moreover, the chicken in sauces (curry and tika masala, I think) was rather dry. However, the tandoori chicken was moist, and the saag paneer had tons of cheese and was decadently rich. The zucchini curry is also very nice, as is the dal. The naan was a little buttery, although I miss the bit of crispness you can get when it isn't served in a buffet.

This NW Hills neighborhood spot is my new local favorite. From appetizers through naan everything was delicious ( even the iced tea was fabulous). The manager is a gracious host and the servers are very attentive.

We went here for dinner. The choice for vegetarians was reasonable. The served portions were more than adequate. Taste and ambiance were good, but the service was very slow. However the staff were courteous.

This restaurant is located in a strip mall and is very nicely decorated inside. We went here because of the good reviews and the different variety of dishes. We were not disappointed. We started with the Bombay Brussel Sprouts, roasted Brussel sprouts with a mustard sauce. They were wonderful. We also had the Kathmandu Kothey MoMo, chicken potstickers with a warm sesame sauce. There were about five appetizers I was dying to try. For dinner we had the Nargeshi Malai Kofta, vegetable dumplings stuffed with nuts and raisins in a creamy sauce that I could have eaten by the gallon. My only regret is that I don’t live in Austin because I would be here weekly working my way through the menu.

Have had lunch there twice, shall surely return. Very satisfactory, well-prepared array of dishes. Clean, quiet, pleasant ambiance; plain, tastefully understated decor; helpful staff; reasonable price. The manager came to chat by our table. They have no liquor license so patrons can BTOB. Have not sampled their a la carte menu (which includes Nepalese dishes) but a gourmet friend who has had dinner their several times rates it very high.

We are so happy to finally have a good restaurant in the strip malls on Far west. It’s Indian and Nepalese (even though one of the guys is Trinidadian! Neil). The lunch buffet is wonderful and not too spicy and a great price at $11. We go there once a week at night for dinner, which is à la cart. They serve the dishes in cute little metal bowls. It’s BYOB and I’m sure the restaurant’s presence has helped Far West liquor a lot! They don’t charge a corking fee and give you nice chilled glasses. Try the lamb pasanda or the Lamb Rogan Josh.

A group of friends recently met for Saffron's buffet lunch and we were all pleased by the quality and variety of food as well as the availability of vegetarian fare. The price for a lunch time feast was unbelievably inexpensive. This is a restaurant that should be on everyone's "best of" list.

It'sin a strip mall. Large but simple decor. Service is low key. Buffet options and variety nare good. Matar paneer is best. Flavor is good here. Meat dishes are little overcooked and dry. Veggies are good but a little overcooked and mushy.

Any local restaurant, set in a strip mall, that is full by 12:35 pm mid week, MUST be doing something right. Saffron certainly is. I have eaten from their menu in the evening, enjoying the subtle differences in their Nepalese dishes. We partook of the buffet which was freshly presented with a good selection of the usual Indian dishes. Perhaps a second choice of rice might have been more interesting than plain Basmati. One thing I continually chaff about is that the plates, whilst absolutely spotless are, as EVERYWHERE cold. WHY can't we have warm plates, please?

Tucked into a nondescript strip shopping center, this place stands out for great food, efficient service, and modest prices. We had samosas, naans, curries, and tandori. All really good, fresh, and flavorful. BYOB is nice, since there is a liquor store a couple doors down. We'll be back.

I've been here for the buffet and for dinner. The food is nuanced and delicious. The owner Tashi and all the folks who work there are super nice and look after their guests well. The chicken momos and the the chicken choila were delicious. I also enjoyed the saffron goat curry and the achari chicken. Don't miss the masala chai, it's the best I've had in a long time. Highly recommend the buffet which has served different dishes every time I've been. The green tea creme brûlée is very good as well. Highly recommended.

the food is really top notch and affordable for lunch. I would have liked the portions to be a bit bigger but otherwise it was a real treat.

Everything from the food to the service to the ambiance was impeccable. We started with the Bombay Brussels and Chicken Choila, both beautifully cooked with zesty spices. We ordered the Saffron Mixed Grill (a Tandoori specialty), which consisted of a lamb chop and kabob, chicken kabob, cottage cheese, shrimp, and mixed vegetables all cooked/smoked in a traditional clay oven. We also shared the Chicken Tikka Masala, which was tender and smoky in flavor, served with a creamy, zesty tomato sauce, and the Green Tea Créme Brûlée, which was elegant, and much lighter than the custard base of a typical créme brûlée. The staff was extremely welcoming, attentive, and helpful, and even offered further information about traditional Nepalese street food and specialties. All around, it was a real treat and we will be back!

Prachet (sp?) was our server, and she was very knowledgeable, helpful, and kind. I will be going back!!!

My cousin and her husband recommended this restaurant as they have been going there frequently since its opening. Since I do not eat meat, it was a vegetable delight for me. For appetizers we enjoyed the Bombay Brussels and the Gobi Manchurian Cauliflower Flowerets. Both were cooked with a bouquet of heavenly spices. The rest of our group feasted on the Kathmandu Kothey MoMo ~ Chicken Pot Stickers. Apparently they were divine as they disappeared as quickly as they made it to the table. I did not opt for a full size entrée as the appetizers were sufficient for me but I did order the Samosas V which were seasoned potatoes and peas. They were very tasty and nicely seasoned. The others ordered the Saffron Chicken Lazeez, Chicken Tikka Masala and Classic Chicken Curry. They were all happy to share with each other. The staff was especially gracious and attentive. They were welcoming and accommodating.

Stumbled on Saffron.... No regrets. Food was delicious and no outrageous price for it. Had a great time, staff is very friendly and accommodating. Wait for food was a bit longer then I would have liked to wait but it was a holiday so I kept that in mind with how busy it was. Over all if you like Indian food please give this place a try. I don't think you will regret it!

It may not have the ambiance or hype of Clay Pit. It's in a strip mall, but food and service wise, you need to try this place. It is phenomenal. I think we've eaten at every Indian restaurant in town and there really is no comparison to Saffron. What it lacks in location and trendiness, it more than makes up for in the ways that count. it also has a Nepalese section of the menu, but we ordered off of the Indian section only. Try it!

This restaurant is a real find. Strictly byob and in a strip mall, but the service is excellent, the prices are low and the food is just fantastic. The aloo achari lamb and achari chicken are to die for, with spicy but well balanced flavors that have just the right edge of heat; the rogan josh is a bit milder but just as tasty, and the jalapeño naan is delicious. Don't miss the masala tea either!

We had Samosas, Kathmandu Kothey Momo, Chicken Tikka Masala, Chicken Murg Shahi Korma, and Aloo Gobi. It was all tasty enough that I’d like to go back to try other dishes in the future.

This is a buffet with Indian and Thai food and unlike many Indian places, there aren't may pureed or soupy options, though they do have soup and I heard it was delicious. I've been several times for lunch and the options have varied, which means someone in the kitchen really likes to cook. The wait staff could not be more attentive or friendly!

This restaurant is located on in a strip mall on Far West Blvd off of Loop 1 (MoPac). The menu includes many delicious Indian and Nepalese dishes. The spices used in cooking each dish are combined to perfection and you will notice that immediately from the aromas as each dish is brought to the table. The restaurant is popular so make reservations on Open Table or go early enough to avoid a wait. We have only eaten there in the evening but at lunch time they serve a reasonably priced buffet. One note- no alcohol is served but they allow you to bring your own wine or beer. Convemiently, a small liquor store is located in the same strip mall. This is a neighborhood gem!

Ate dinner here with my wife for the fourth or fifth time. Food is always fresh tasting, love the brussels sprouts, shrimp, saag paneer, and lamb. Comfortable, simply decorated setting. Servers are always friendly and efficient. A nice neighborhood restaurant with more than your typical Indian offerings. No alcohol, so bring a bottle of wine if you are inclined to do so.

The Indian food is great didn't see much of the fusion on the menu. I highly recommend the samosas, Tikka masala, and the chicken curry. The food was rather mild for being Indian food but this made it better for our daughter. The Naan was a little over cooked making it crisper than we prefer.

So this time I made a plan to visit Austin just so I could indulge myself in some mouth watering dishes. Their chicken dumplings are hands down the best you will ever eat. We also tried their achari chicken, cheese naan and lamb sekuwa(kebab), the combination is to die for. Can't wait to come back again to try their other dishes.

We went for date night but there were also families with kids of all ages. My husband had salmon tandoori and I had chicken vindaloo. We also tried the Brussels sprouts and finished dinner with green tea creme brûlée. Everything was delicious. The portions were just right and it was quiet enough so we could have a nice conversation.

We love Saffron because it has lots of great vegan and vegetarian options. Also, because it's a "bring your own wine" place. I assume because they're across the street from a school they can't get a liquor license, but you can bring your own from HEB or the liquor store in the same shopping center. We have been here with non-vegetarian friends and they loved their meat and poultry entrees. It seems to be a family-run place, and it's a very laid-back, but classy place.

Dropped information dinner after far too long. Really good food! The potstickers were exceptional. Brussels sprouts were very good as was the Tikka Masala. The baked cheese appetizer was good but its successful. Overall very good. And very reasonably priced.

We just had a wonderful takeout dinner from Saffron. Every dish was exceptional. We loved the chicken with spinach and mint, the korma, and the eggplant in particular. Highly recommend it!

We went here for a lunch buffet with friends. This is a storefront restaurant with several long tables and plainly decorated The food was in a shorter row against the back wall with numerous offerings. The meat was mostly chicken in different sauces and there was a fish dish and a seafood soup. Plain rice and fried rice were also offered. The Saag (spinach) dish in a creamy sauce was excellent as was the chicken Tikka Masala and spicier curry. The mixed vegetable samosas were outstanding. Three sauces were also available(mint, tamarind and raita.) for dipping the excellent naan bread. There was a bowl of mixed fresh fruit and a custard type pudding for dessert. This was an excellent offering for a very reasonable $ll.00. Service was attentive and obliging. Plates were removed in a timely manner and with a smile.

My wife and I and another couple went to Saffron's last night for the first time....we will all return! The food, friendly and helpful service were simply outstanding. We were oohing and ahhing over each dish. We each order different appetizers and entrees and then we shared with each other. That was fun and a great way to experience so many of Saffron's tasty dishes all at once. For appetizers we shared the KATHMANDU KOTHEY MOMO (chicken pan-fried pot stickers), BOMBAY BRUSSELS (fresh brussel sprouts roasted and tossed in a creamy mustard sauce), LAMB STUFFED JALAPENOS (spicy!), a scallop dish in a creamy sauce with wonderful spices and garlic naan. All of these were incredibly tasty, though the clear winner was the pot stickers. They were SO flavorful they didn't even need the sesame dipping sauce. For entrees we shared LAMB PASANDA (boneless lamb cooked in a cashew & pistachio sauce), LAMB VINDALOO (spicy combination of red chilies, Indian spices & vinegar), basmati rice, CHICKEN MOMO (similar to the pan-fried pot stickers only these are steamed and take 18 minutes to cook), the SAFFRON MIXED GRILL (a combination of their TANDOORI TREASURES - lamb chop, Frenched chicken drumsticks, thigh and breast, lamb sausage, shrimp) and saffron naan (stuffed with saffron and minced nuts). All were, again, incredible but the winners were the Lamb Pasanda and the saffron naan. Note that Saffron's does not yet have a liquor license but the owner helpfully told us of a liquor store just 5 doors down from the restaurant. Lo and behold one of our party ran out and came back within minutes with a remarkable Spanish Rioja. It went perfectly with our meal. Amazing food and everyone from the owner to the wait staff was super friendly and helpful. This isn't your typical "Indian" restaurant. It branches out to neighboring Nepal and many of the spices were Nepalese / Himalayan. A true fusion. What a thoroughly delightful meal and experience. We will definitely go back!

The school kids, the couples and the singles came in, loaded their plates, and tucked in on the buffet lunch. Seems like a popular place with regulars. The food was good and there were several Indian dishes to choose from. Its a well priced buffet. The dessert was sevias and it was well made! Worth a visit if you enjoy India cuisines!!

Original flavors and excellent service. LOVED the Bombay Brussels Sprouts and the Jalapeno Poppers. The menu has an amazing selection. Looking forward to a visit during one of my next trip to Austin.

The atmosphere is a bit odd, it feels like a nice restaurant but is in a shopping center. The food was good, not the best I've had in Austin but still good. I would go back.

Outstanding true Indian and Nepalese food. Very attentive and knowledgeable wait staff. Hands down the best Indian restaurant in town

Was not expecting a lot, since it's in a strip mall, but it was close. and it was great! I don't know Indian food, a friend ordered for us -- we will be back. Soon! Highly recommended.

Wonderful food, pleasant atmosphere, and great service. It is BYOB which makes the evening more affordable and fun. There is a liquor store a few stores down selling adult beverages (solves this every day but Sunday - and there is a 7 day grocery store with wine and beer also close by). I had a shrimp/tomato/peppers dish that was beautifully seasoned and not heavy with oils. Garlic naan was the best I’ve had in austin. Diamond in the strip mall!

This was my fourth time having dinner at saffron's. A colleague who is Nepalese treated us to this place which has Nepalese and Indian food. The atmosphere is upscale but simple; an up grade from the last Indian restaurant that was here. The presentation is beautiful and the food is delicious. The staff is very friendly and helpful. Try some of the Nepalese Momo's and any of the curries. Today I had the piri piri fish which was fabulous. They don't have a liquor license yet but four doors down is farwest liquors and you can bring your own wine with no corking fee. I'm happy we finally have a good restaurant in our neighborhood. Lee

Found this restaurant by scanning TripAdvisor for dinner ideas while in Austin, and decided to try it. Glad we did. Food was very good, and came quickly. Will definitely remember for our next trip to the Austin area.
Mediocre
Had the Sunday buffet lunch. Service is attentive and courteous, price is extremely reasonable. It lacks in terms of taste. Saag paneer was tasteless, had a strange aftertaste, chole were oily. Not a lot of vegetarian options. THe only dessert on the buffet strangely had gelatin in it, hence not vegetarian, which I had to discover on my own, while eating it- not fun when you are a vegetarian. According to prior reviews, If this is amongt the best Indian restaurants in Austin, I have a new found appreciation of Indian restaurants in my home town - Dallas.
