Steak Steak Steak!

By Peter R Waller |

Wow, this place is a carnivores dream! What a selection of steaks they have and all excellent cuts. The photo says it all....... A very busy hustly bustling place with lots going on and good atmosphere, well spaced seating and very attentive staff make for a very enjoyable meal. the wine list is extensive and easy to find a good pairing for every taste. We had the New York strip and Rib eye, both cooked to perfection. TIP: leave the bread alone and eat the steak first then the sides, or you won't finish it!

Taisty food with South American flair

By ReallyLoveTravelling |

I had been to their buffet before, but ordered off the menu this time. My steak was very tasty and the service friendly.

Inconsistent service, overcharged for no reason, website prices not up to date, and confused ambiance!

By Timothy F |

Four of us went here for a date night dinner on labor day and it was truly a mixed bag experience. One of the many servers in attendance was fantastic and clearly wanted everyone to have a good experience. The others, not so much. There were several inconsistencies that raised red flags, chief among them being overcharged on both an entree and a bottle of wine. We were billed for salmon when the fish was red snapper, and overcharged by $10 on a bottle of wine. To further confuse the issue the prices for wine on the website are inconsistent with the prices on the wine list (e.g. the Zuccardi Tito Malbec is listed as $72/bottle on the website yet the wine list has it at $84, which is an oversight that should not happen in a well run restaurant. To the restaurant's credit I called and spoke to the manager who suggested I come in and work out a fix with him. I'm glad I kept the receipt! One other interaction stood out on the night. Bizarrely, when we ordered a wine our server came with a different bottle, twice, which he tried to push on us repeatedly. We actually had to ask him to bring the wine we ordered, and again, before getting what we ordered. That's not good customer service! I doubt I'm going here again, there are better restaurants and service easily found within Houston.

Easter Brunch

Wonderful selection, plentiful dishes & the very most helpful waiters and waitresses. Service with a friendly smile to make our meal superb! Highly recommend!

Where the Menu Is Fiction and the Bill Is Real

By Andres |

They proudly present themselves as a high-end restaurant, with a special focus on premium steaks. The ambition is admirable. The execution… not so much. If you still feel like gambling, here’s a survival tip: do not follow the waiter’s recommendations for dishes “not on the menu,” and never let him decide how much food you need based on the number of diners — unless your idea of dessert is cardiac arrest when the check arrives.

Good food, service eh...

By dbla72 |

I took my wife and mother-in-law (visiting from Mex) to S&P for my wife’s birthday. We had an early reservation so seating was not an issue and we basically picked out the table we wanted. He service was very slow and I was getting a bit frustrated. I got up to go wash my hands and upon my return someone left some menus on the table without greeting anyone or asking for a drink order. I think after a few dirty looks one of staff finally came over and and asked, “you want some drinks or something”? Can say I was overly impressed at this point. We ordered an appetizer of empanaditas and I got the potato leak soup and a glass of Sauvignon blanc wine from Uruguay. A few minutes later our waiter showed up and was very polite and took our order. It’s then I started to realize our waiter, Santo, was pretty much handling almost every seated table in the place. Needless to say he was hustling but not able to be as attentive as I would have liked. Our dinner arrived which presentation wise looked amazing. We each ordered a different fish plate. I had the snapper encrusted with corn, my wife the flounder milenesa and my mother in law had the mahi mahi. I tasted all three and the snapper to me was the best. My wife agreed and I ended up giving a third of my fish to her as hers was overcooked and too dry, crispy on on side to eat. Again the service was lacking as it took forever to get one of the 4 other staff members attention to get a water refill. Even more disturbing that person goes and tells our waiter Santo so he came over and refilled the glasses while the others were just standing around. For dessert we tried the chocolate passion cake and the flan with dulce de leche. Both very good but value for the portion I would rate a less than average. So overall the food was pretty good, I would recommend the snapper for sure. The empanaditas were different and tasty. I would recommend putting a little of the table chimichurri salsa on them. They are a bit sweet for an appetizer. The Uruguayan sauvignon blanc is also good. The service could have been better was not a disaster. Santo should be recognized as he was hustling while others just standing around while glasses were empty.

Lunch at Sal's

By Stephen F |

This is one of my favorite South American restaurants, a little pricey but very good. Service is top notch most days or nights, food is well prepared. Lunch portions were perfect! I didn't feel like I over ate and yet left fulfilled I've been here for brunch and dinner and never left unsatisfied! Many restaurants are in the area, this one competes with all of them.

Not comfortable with the monetary imprecision

By Erin K |

We had a birthday lunch here for 6 people today. Beautiful venue and they put us in a private room. The staff was pleasant. We got our orders (all correct) and continued chatting. The food was really good and the desserts were OUTSTANDING. Kudos to the pastry chef! Our bill was brought to us unsolicited. It did not have a large party gratuity included. We asked for it to be split up and they complied. In the meantime, 2 of us recognized we were upcharged. One ordered the $8 potato soup and was charged $12 for lobster bisque. I was charged an extra dollar for salmon when I had ordered ceviche as my topping for my salad. If I was the only one, I wouldn't have said a thing. But there were 2 of us, so I asked the server about it. He said that they use the lobster bisque key for their soups (lobster bisque isn't on the menu) and they're all the same price anyway. I said, no, they are not. He continued on that they were the same and I asked him to bring me the menu. At this point, he said he would fix it. I asked again for the menu. They did correct it. When they ran our individual cards (again, gratuity wasn't applied on our individual bills), our cards were all charged extra to include gratuity without a tip line or signature line. I walked away with a really poor taste in my mouth. It left me wondering how often they do this, a couple of dollars at a time. My hope is that the manager sees this and addresses this with the staff.

Great meat!

By Jesper G |

I was there with the family in early May and found it absolutely superb! Neither my wife nor my 5-year old son could not get enough of the T-bone steak and we were all very glad that we stumbled onto this restaurant. The service was excellent also. It's the best restaurant I've been to in Houston (go there on business from time to time, live in Sweden) and we can highly recommend it!

Weekend Brunch = AMAZING

By elynoremarie |

I have been to this place for several times during lunch. They have the best food and best deal ever ($23+ for 3 course meal). I love their sirloin and picanha. Ceviche was pretty delicious and their desserts (quatro leches and passion fruit chocolate). I also brought my family for their weekend buffet brunch. it was amazing! Lamb chops for buffet and their empanadas were outstanding. Try all their mini desserts, its awesome! Love this place. The only thing I am picky about is that they impose a mandatory 20% tip on buffet. I usually tip that much anyway but some might find it a little annoying.

Legitimate South American tasty food

By Rob |

Very good food and service. This was highly recommended by Houston residents who had tried meat there. I tried salmon.

Craveable!

By Lynn S |

If you want attentive service, excellent food, fun and great wines, then this is the restaurant for you! The waiter treated us to a few surprise samplings of some of the dishes. The steaks were to die for, along with the appetizers (who could pick just one?) The waiter recommended wines to pair with our steaks and they were exactly what we were looking for. A great evening. They also have a brunch, which we want to try!

Outstanding steak

By Dan G |

We held a business dinner here with 6 colleagues. From the door the service was outstanding and welcoming, we went with the staff recommendations and everything was explained, we were shown the kitchen (it's open, you can see the BBQ) and we followed our mans' recommendations. The steak was outstanding in quality and taste. Everybody was very satisfied. The wine selection was good, see the photos, and South America iced beers were amazing to start our evening. There are some private dining rooms, next time we'll try and grab one of these.

Exceptional Dinner

By MichellesOnTheRoad |

We went to Sal y Pimienta Kitchen for Houston Restaurant Weeks, we always wanted to go to this restaurant and HRW is a great way to try new places. Sal y Pimienta Kitchen had a diverse menu so there was something for everyone. The Salmon Tartar was fresh and bright, the calamari had a jalapeno mayonnaise that was great with the potato chips that we were given to munch on. My date really enjoyed his steak, it was cooked perfectly and was really tender. Finally we had the 4 Leches and the Chocolate Cakes for dessert, they were both delicious. The service was spot on, our waiter was attentive, knowledgeable, and very nice. We're looking forward to going back for another visit.

Great steaks, great choice, good service

By J_dubbs7 |

Ate here on a smart casual business dinner occasion. Was popular and busy with everyone having a great time. Personal services and attending to cooking preferences.

I wasn't expecting a fine steakhouse but it was a great steak!

By Danny H |

We had a business dinner and I can't compliment the staff and restaurant enough. The private room was perfect for 10 people and we were able to talk to each other! I ordered the Akaushi ribeye and it was prepared exactly as ordered. This was one of the best steaks I've ever eaten. The Osiris Reserva Tannat was recommended and paired perfectly. This will not be my last visit.

Sal y Pimienta South American Kitchen in Houston, TX

By Michael E |

The food is so fresh, flavorful, & beautifully presented that we were all blown away. The prices are very reasonable and the portions are so big you can easily share a dish or two to expand your options. The Calamari was the very best I have ever eaten. The extensive Wine list is truly impressive. The lighting & decor create a rustic sophisticated chic atmosphere that fits right in at the very upscale CityCentre outdoor mall experience.

Very good

By AIWIW |

We had a business meeting and were very pleased with it. Good food even for vegetarians (which we did not expect). Fast service

Give it a try

By Pkrekeler |

I'm not sure how long Sal y Pimienta has been open now, I'm not the most hip person and am usually last to know about a new place. I heard about it from a co-worker that recommended their happy hour and attest that it was worth it. Pros & Cons: Pros: The smells...mmmmmm. Happy hour! Dinner appetizer menu is 1/2 off. There his a wine list a mile long. Seriously, it is quite a big selection. There is a Monday special (all day from lunch to close) - while the $99 price tag will scare people off, the value is worth it to me (food for 2, including wine!) The chicken empanadas were delicious and cooked to perfection. The drink menu has interesting options, including Pisco sour. Cons: The menu is pricey. The beef empanadas had olives (I wasn't aware & am not an olive fan). I think drinks were $2 off regular price- drinks were a little pricey. I was told it gets very busy. I didn't witness this crowd but can understand due to the location (in City Centre). The bar area is TINY. Happy hour is only for the tiny bar area. I do plan to return and investigate the Monday special.

Super beef place

By TechLedr |

This place is on our short list for amazing beef. The smoke was amazing, appetizers were rich, and the homemade potato chips are a dream (and rich).

Lovely Restaurant

By Ben H |

Culinary Artistry and Attentive Service

By sweetsue5454 |

My husband and I dined here with two other couples. We were very pleased with the information and attention give to us by our waiter. He was very knowledgeable of the items on the menu and most helpful in making suggestions. The menu has very creative versions of some standard dishes, such as a Caprese/Crabmeat Salad and a Cuatro Leches dessert. I had the Mango Salad which was wonderful--- full of generous mango slices. The salad was large enough for two persons. I also had the Bife de Lomo Uruguayo, a fine cut of meat which was enjoyable. Everyone in our party enjoyed their menu choices. The desserts were beautiful and large enough to share. We actually were able to pass them around so everyone got a taste of each. All were delightful. I've been to very few restaurants with service so prompt and willing to please.

Fantastic South American Steaks

By Ricardo C |

Been coming to Sal y Pimienta almost every time I'm in Houston - excellent choice for family or business dinner. People is very friendly, South American cuisine is delicious.

Succulent pork

By Peter R Waller |

I went in for a steak and ended up with the most succulent pork chop ever, cooked to perfection and a taste like no other, it must be tried!! Washed down with a fine Malbec, just the job for an early dinner

Best steakhouse in town!!!...

By johnstudent1970 |

Visit last night! Had a groupon and called same day to reserve. Person who answer the phone very helpful explaining how it works. Great time with friends!!!!

Excellent food!

By maggiet0813 |

We went to celebrate a friends birthday. There were 11 of us so we were in the wine room which has a table for about 10 and is enclosed. The meat choices are excellent. The mojitos are superb. Everyone was extremely pleased with their food choices and the service was exceptional. It is definitely on the pricey side. My mojitos were $10 and the cheapest entree is around $22. It also has a couple of tables for outside seating.

Unvelievable Sunday Brunch Buffet

By ReallyLoveTraveling |

Sal y Pimienta has an unbelievable Sunday brunch. It seems like it has 30 different kinds of meets and sea foods, plus various vegetables and deserts. Many of the selections are hard to find elsewhere. The service is excellent. Note that you can park free in most of the garages if you go to the upper levels.

For brunch? LOVE it!

By JilliO |

FAbulous brunch! It is not quite as good as the gold standard of 4 Seasons in DT Houston, but it's fabulous! Great price point. Helpful staff. Wonderful mix of food available. The best comparison point is Hugo's, and in my humble opinion, it blows the brunch at Hugo's out of the water. Solid recommendation.

Excellent food

By Yves22 |

Was here for a business lunch and returned for another meal. The meat was delectable and service quite fast. The meats were tender and juicy. They offer a decent choice for the lunch set at a good price. Also, the plantain chips with green dip were excellent.

Lunch

By Laura M |

We went for lunch and ordered 3 appetizers, 1 chorizo and one salad. No wine, just water and an iced tea. The food was really good but the check was 80$ no tip included. As you can see there were no entrees or dessert. A little too overpriced but as I said the food is really good. We have to try the brunch which everybody says is amazing.

Nice find

By Ian-Mc-SOR |

Ended up here by accident, but very pleasant diversion. Food good, cocktails spot on (especially the Mojitos), and outstanding attention and service from staff.

Fantastic Establishment

By smallbatchlodging |

Visited five times with excellent results. I've visited personally as well as hosted colleagues. The food and experience has been excellent every time! The dishes are very authentic. Conversations among staff are in Portuguese. Highly recommend!!

Great flavor.

By shaun r |

The steaks and chops are the main reason to eat here. They have a great taste, are juicy and full of flavor, and are nice sized cuts. You can pick your meat from the serving platter. What a great variety to choose from. I chose the tenderloin, but the fillet looked nice. I will probably chose the tomahawk ribeye though. 28 ounces of meat. The appetizers were great. Loved the empanadas and the crab claws packed a punch. Lots of different countries to choose from for dishes. Service was helpful and friendly.

Sunday Brunch!

By Jermaine H |

So many fabulous dishes!!! Lamb, chicken m, beef, eggs, pork m, sausages m, blood sausage, deviled eggs, and soooooo much more. Get the 49$ groupon on 20% off day $39.80 for 2 people buffet brunch. So worth it!! We also had dinner there the night before. I love this place and my pics are from that night. 5 stars all the way!!

One of the best Experience

By claudette m |

Great, Professional & Excellent food. Love the ambience, decor and the cuisine is very wide from Seafood, Home made pastas and Great Meats.

Nice dinner for something different.

By shaun r |

Good steak can definitely be found here. It’s a nice change of pace from the standard expensive steak place. Great flavor and cooked nicely. The appetizers are a nice touch. Order the water buffalo or the filet for the best flavor. The tomahawk ribeye looked great. It is too much meat for me.

South American Grill

By Cecilia T |

We bought a Groupon for Sunday Brunch so we went with another couple. The choice was somewhat limited and except for a few items, the food was not memorable. We don’t plan on returning.

Good Sunday brunch for meat lovers

By kwabena A |

Visit Sal y Pimienta for their Sunday brunch with family. Pretty good selection of food for meat lovers. So go hungry. The grilled lamb was my favorite. The dessert were very good too. Good value for $35 brunch.

Awesome beef

By Ashley R |

We came here for a business dinner, and had a private room for a large group of us. The service is great and I love the meat board that they bring to show the cuts and to share their characteristics. The speciality is Uruguayan cuts of beef, I went with the ribeye and it was very tasty indeed. I would definitely head there again as long as I wasn't with a vegetarian :)

Really good, a little proud of their price

By TravelPowerPlay |

Went to Sal y Pimienta for Father's day. They had a GREAT AWESOME brunch laid out. It is truly great, with everything from lamb chops to seafood and ceviche. The bill did hurt a little, but for what you get, it's worth it.

Great food & service

By ceci_4434 |

Our family went for a family celebration on a Sunday brunch. I’ve got to say , their ceviche is my favorite, but then again, several items were near favorites. Great variety of foods, all delicious! Especially appreciate the wonderful desserts served in small portions so you can taste a bit of each! Servers were so helpful in explaining the dishes, & waiters were attentive & very courteous.

Very average

By Dami |

I have been here several times and I usually enjoy my food. This time, myself and two others ordered the snapper. It was very average. It lacked flavor and didn't seem as fresh as I would've liked for the price. the calamari was not good and was served with ketchup for dipping. It was very odd. Four of us spent about $220 and I would rather spend that elsewhere.

Service, Food, Selection, they have it all.

By J H |

One of my Houston Energy Corridor favorite restaurants. Outstanding service. Reasonably priced good wines. Everything I have ordered has been excellent. Have taken both my wife and colleagues and all reviews are great. Suggest the $44, 3 course menu, very good value and selection. Known for their meat selections. Very unique Uruguayan cuisine. The best pork tenderloin of my life...

The food sure didn't need anymore sal y pimienta (salt/pepper)!

By Suleyka G |

The food was perfect and portions were just enough to fill you up! I had their empanadas and I wanted more!!! I had their cannenoli pasta with spinach and for dessert the tres leches cheesecake! AMAZING and MOUTH WATERING! Not to mention their wine selection, the dessert wine is one of a kind!

Charming environment and great food!

By silvia_martins |

It is located in City Center and it has a very charming setup. Food is great!!!!! After the great chips with chimichurri sauce, we had the 3-course menu: amazing beef empanadas for appetizers, picanha for entrée and a fantastic 4 leches cage for dessert! Definitely will go back there!!!!!

Best Steak Ever!

By Kathy A |

We tried the regular filet, the aged filet and the cowboy bone in steak. All were excellent, however, the cowboy was off the charts amazing! Staff was excellent! Must try!

Happy Anniversary to us!

By Denise K |

We wanted to try someplace new to celebrate our anniversary, and a coworker recommended Sal y Pimienta. We started with mango salad, which was cool and delicious. We each then ordered a different cut of meat - I had the Bife Chorizo and my husband had Asado Vacio. Both were savory and satisfying. We then had crepes filled with dulche Leche for dessert. All I can say is Wow! The food and service were awesome! We'll definitely be back again!

Nice sweet

By funmibalogun2002 |

Enjoyed the sweet from start to finished. Environment made it even more convenient to enjoy the sweet.

Excellent South American restaurant

By rbernacki |

Visiting friends and they suggested this place. Great variety of wines and food from steaks to seafood to italian. I tried the water buffalo which was excellent and my wife had the salt encrusted branzino which was brought to the table flaming and was absolutely delicious, Our friends had the pork chop special. Service was excellent and presentation of fresh meats to choose from was nice.

absolutely a must try

By Cynthia U |

this is town and country shopping area which makes it a bit tricky to find. i went with a regular and we had the royal treatment from the moment we walked in. this is the most amazing meat selection i have ever seen. we had ceviche and carapaccio both excellent. give them a try you will be glad you did.

Outstanding

By jan2716 |

Best restaurant in the Citycentre. Huge wine selection, knowledgeable staff, outstanding food, excellent service. Highly recommended.

Just added as one of my top favorite restaurants in Houston. A must try .

By Elias W |

Excellent food, amazing service and great wines . This was our first time but I am sure this wonderful place is going to be one of our favorites. The appetizers are tasty and the quality and the quantities of everything we had were excellent. We tried the ceviche, steak tartar, tuna tartar and the lamb chops as appetizers. Super yummy. All the meat cuts we tried were superior with a slight but wonderful flavor of wood (filet, skirts and NY strips). The sides were very good too. Can’t brag enough !!

Superb all round!!

By Zelillem |

Always wanted to check this place out, so decided to drop by for a quick pre-movie night bite and drinks and soooo glad we did! We didn't make a reservation so were offered seating by the kitchen bar, which is a cool experience as you can see all the meats being prepared and grilled. The service was awesome, with our server Santos being super sweet and helpful. He recommended the lamb chops which were divine. My friend (who's vegetarian) tried the ceviche and loved it. The service was fast but we never felt rushed and soon after we sat down the place quickly filled up (on a Wednesday night!!!) so next time I go there I'm definitely making a reservation!!!

Brunch

By Mudflap99 |

The restaurant serves brunch on the first Sunday of each month. There are more than 50 items to choose ranging from excellent ceviche to killer dessert items. Sal y Pimienta is noted for the preparation of meats and seafood. We have dined here several times during the past 15 months for lunch, wine dinners and now brunch and we are always very pleased. Note: we drive 30 miles one way to dine here, so it must be special.

Pleasantly Surprised

By Juliet P |

We left the restaurant almost immediately after arriving because it seemed as if the restaurant wasn’t wheelchair accessible BUT WE DIDN’T thanks to the manager who heard our concerns and made it accessible. I’m so happy we stayed! One of the best brunch spots with bottomless sangria. Our daughter, who’s wheelchair bound, was beyond happy with the atmosphere, accommodations made and of course the food. The steak was cooked to perfection! We will be back and we are grateful for their management team who went above and beyond and showed so much compassion. I can’t say enough positive things here.

Outstanding surprise in City Centre

By Rich H |

Dined here with a group of 12 celebrating the end of the year and the beginning of yet another. This place is best known for it's meat and it most assuredly didn't disappoint in this category, that said, I was also able to sample the red snapper, and it was also delicious. They offer a wide variety of Argentine, Chilean and Uruguayan wines, (in addition to the US, France, Spain and others) and of course a full bar. My ONLY reason for not giving this a "5" is that our Parilla de Sal y Pimienta was overcooked. We requested Medium rare and it was medium to medium well... Because we were with such a large group, we ate it as it arrived, but can only imagine how divine it might have been had it been cooked to order. Speaking of which - the Parilla is an incredible protein eaters delight. It is advertised as a meal for two - I don't know how two people could possibly eat that much food. Most notable on a plate filled with amazing food was....wait for it.....the chicken!!!! Now, keep in mind it was all incredible - but honestly, I have no idea how they made CHICKEN taste that good! I marked this as "mid range" but it is definitely on the expensive end of mid-range but there is no choice between mid and high.....

Great twist on a traditional steakhouse

By Joseph D |

Great food, great wine. They even have grappa most days. Food is great. Uruguay beef! Service is top notch. Staff is friendly.

Excellent beef

By Rob |

It is worth for the quality of the beef. Service is ok and it can be improved. It is a bit noisy too and the air conditioning was not working so well in an uneasonably hot day in Houston. Still, the price is reasonable for the quality of food they serve. Second time there, would go back for a third.

Nice Little Spot w/ great food

By AnyC3 |

Ambiance of the open kitchen is awesome and cozy though it's a bit crowded and noisy since it's a small space. Food was excellent! Potato chips with chimichurri sauce was so good and fresh for a starter, served free while waiting for the food to come. We ordered empanadas Uruguayas (chicken) for appetizer and that was so so, pretty standard. Potato leak soup with poblano pepper and crab meat was excellent. Very flavorful and rich. Pappardelle with beef cooked for 3 hrs in Malbec was pretty good, but the pasta unfortunately was undercooked. My husband had Churraquito of pork tenderloin and he said it was so delicious and cooked perfectly. We order a dessert to share; Cuatro tres leches. It was good but a bit different than usual tres leches. I guess that's why they call it Uruguay tres leches.Overall, everything was excellent!

Amazing Food

By Liz T |

We went there for my husband's birthday. The service was excellent and food was amazing. My husband had steak and I had chicken.

Surprise! Surprise!

By Chester H |

Brought the whole family out to S y P in City Centre for my wife's birthday. This place was the bomb! Nice private ambiance, great food, and their super friendly staff just puts them over the top. Elias was our server and he was easily one of the best I've ever had. We were a demanding group of 9 people with kids, and he gracefully satisfied our every request. Food was not cheap, but it was worth it.

Uruguayan Steak House in Houston City Centre

Hosted a business dinner here with 6 people. Very good quality food and we were able to book a private room for no additional charge. Service was outstanding, we went with the staff recommendations and were very pleased. Prices a little on the high side.

Comfort food in a casual atmosphere

By Denise C |

We had Sunday brunch at Sal y Pimienta. Good food with a Latin flavour but not extraordinary. Good meats- pork, beef, chicken, as well as salmon, ceviche and lots of sides and salads. As with all buffets, you will have issues with some of the food drying out a bit, as was the case with the chicken. The restaurant is quite small but cute. Unlimited sangrias and mimosas!

We didn't agree on this restaurant

By drdavies |

I took my sweetheart to Sal y Pimienta at about 6 PM on a Saturday for our first visit. When we arrived we were the only patrons in the cramped dining area, and it still felt crowded. Within minutes it was full, so then it was severely cramped. Part of the cramped feeling came from the over attentive (to put it nicely) waitstaff, both waiter and the water-filling assistant. They use very small glasses, so the water filler had to return over and over. I was repeatedly interrupted midsentence, for water and irritating questions from the waiter. It was rude and unpleasant. I would prefer the waitstaff understand that we are at the restaurant to be together but not so much to be with them. The restaurant is set in City Centre where there are many restaurants, people, cars and very little space. It is as if the intention is to mimic Manhattan. To each his own, but going there means being in the midst of lots of people. Contrast this with Capital Grill and Seasons 52, also in City Centre, where the atmosphere is not crowded and much friendlier. Therefore, the clutter and bustle in Sal y Pimienta is not merely due to its location, so it is fixable. The menu had a number of interesting options. We ordered the Alaskan King Crabs, and found that to be about 8 very small claws, They were tasty and the sauce was very nice, just short of making up for the irritation at the smallness of the claws considered against the $16 price. We had Caeser salad which turned out to be the best component of the night. Wish it had intact anchovies but the flavor was excellent. We shared Uruguayan "Bife de Lomo" beef tenderloin, ordered medium rare. it comes as a single piece of beef which they have already sliced. The center was more like rare, but the surface was charred and bitter. Portions of the surface had dry, almost ashen texture. The seasoning was very uneven, with some portions oversalted and others undersalted. My sweetheart did like her less-rare slices, so it might be fair to consider it a mixed review. With the tenderloin came two asparagus spears and around 100 gm of mashed potatoes. The asparagus and potatoes were tasty but remarkable only for their paucity. We had plain water. Imagine my shock to see the bill - $166 before tip. I am not typically price sensitive, but this was severe gouging. My tip was less than my usual, reflecting the poor service. Overall she liked it enough to want to return. I distinctly dis not. I will accommodate her request if she asks to return, but I won't be suggesting it.

Nice ambiance, good food and service Recommended for a quiet dinner with a loved one. As for recommendation from your server.

Enjoyed the food

By Victor C |

Houston has been blessed with a few very good South American restaurants and this is one of them. Dinner menu is quite extensive which makes it difficult to choose. Some not found in other places are the Milinaesas dishes, South American food with a little Italian touch. Sunday buffet brunch is also very good, popular and my favorite. Love the bottomless brunch drink special, especially since my wife does not drink and is my "designated" driver! Service is always efficient, friendly and informative if you are not familiar with the menu. Tended to slow down a little during Sunday brunch when the place is packed. Yes, it is on the pricy side. To me, it is worth it.

Wonderful Brunch Buffet

By Mel |

If you like seafood and meat then this is the place for you! We are always trying to find a nice brunch buffet and this is our fave so far in Houston! We have been here several times for brunch now and I can't wait to try it for dinner one day! The first time we ate here we started on the cold side of the buffet. We could have just eaten this part and been satisfied. The seafood is so fresh and tasty. My favorite item is the mango salad and I mix it with the seafood salad - Yum! My husband loves the bacon wrapped pork chops and the fried shrimp. There really is something for everyone here! The little tastes of the deserts are awesome and even though they are small I still eat too many! I can't wait to go back - my mouth is watering just typing this review! Oh and the service is fantastic!

Great brunch

Great service fantastic coffee awesome food. Menu allows for all taste and they will even prepare a dish that's not on the menu. The restaurant itself is breaking in terms of lighting and decor. Highly recommend a visit.

Great Experience

We had dinner here this past Saturday. Everything was wonderful. The service was attentive but not pretentious. The servers were very knowledgeable about the food and wine menu and gave good recommendations. The food was delicious. I would definitely recommend having dinner here.

Sal y Pimienta Sunday buffet

By leo c |

Excellent buffet. Lots of food for a very good price. Lamb, beef, pork, blood sausage, chicken all done perfectly. Various seafood preparations. Plenty of different salads and desserts. I highly recommend this place. Will be back many more times. Servers are very helpful. Quick and courteous. Manager is very friendly.

NICE DEPARTURE FROM ROUTINE DINING IN HOUSTON

By johnhW5357SH |

This family owned very South American restaurant was a real treat for our family. I was particularly impressed with the depth of the wine collection, seeing labels I have not seen in years. I tried their dry aged New York strip, perfectly executed. The restaurant is in a very upscale area, which likely creates the need for pricing in the "not a bargain" range. This food is worth chasing and I think another good location with 25% off would seal their fame for generations. Anyway, it's nostalgic Uruguayan or Argentine ambience, and five star attendance. Broad menu supports many tastes, way beyond the massive offerings of select, special cuts of meats. Delicious.

Very happy with first visit with friends

By Bruce M |

Took advantage of Houston Restaurant Week opportunity to try out Sal y Pimienta with friends and help out Food Bank charity. Our party of six were surprised and excited to have been seated in glass enclosed private dining area at back of restaurant. This turned out perfect for our casual conversations which would have been more difficult as the main seating area filled up and got much louder. We shared various empanada starters and ceviche from set menu and also tried crab legs from main menu. Ceviche was nice, but have had better in town. Empanades were cooked perfect and we enjoyed trying variety. Crab claws with garlic butter were very nice. Entre's included tenderloin (very good w/ great crispy potatoes), pork mango brochettes ( could have used more of yummy mango chimichurri sauce), and great red snapper encrusted in corn (just slightly overcooked for me, but great flavors and poblano spoon bread side was awesome.) We shared desserts including chocolate mousse, flan, and de leche cheesecake. All were very good, but would say the cheesecake was outstanding. Waiter and staff were all great.

Comfortable business dining experience

Business dinner with good food , nothing extremely inmemorable but good enough to come back and keep exploring the menu. People is friendly and service with good timing, is a small place but we’ll organize .

Good South America/Mex food

By Melissa C |

Really unique flavors at this restaurant and food always presented nicely. Staff are always very accommodating; excellent service. Great brunch as well as lunch and dinner options.

Great steak & wine. Sunday brunch is worth it.

By perthprecious |

If you’re fancy great quality steaks, this is the perfect restaurant for that. It’s one of our favourite restaurants in CityCentre. Their friendly staffs always make you feel welcome. Good selection of steaks and wine. We are looking forward for them to put Sunday Brunch back in the menu as it is so worth it.

Best meat from Uruguay

Argentia meat is good, but this meat is better. Signed by an expert from Europe. Great atmosphere and service. Great display of meat.

Fantastic food

By BikingTejana |

My husband and I had wonderful evening at Sal y Pimienta. The waiters are friendly and attentive. I highly recommended the empanadas as well as the picanha. They have a very good cocktail and wine list, yummy desserts and I love their cappuccinos.

Sunday Brunch was average

By likloop |

I rate it poor because the price is so high for such average food. However some things on the brunch buffet were excellent. Went to the Sunday brunch to July 16 2017. I was hoping for good things as the website looked awesome. But unfortunately it didn't live up to my expectations. We arrived at 11:30 so the buffet would be fresh but most of the meat we had was overcooked and dry. Nothing tasted grilled, just like it was baked. The hot foods were not very hot, many were just room temperature. (You like you steak and sausage cold right?) The cold end of the buffet was much better than the "warm" meat end. There were seafood items and some sliced ham and a even some shrimp. 60% of the buffet could have been at Golden Coral or on a Carnival cruise. For less money you can get better food at many different restaurants nearby.

Great drinks and buffet

By Amy C |

Loved it! Went for Sunday brunch. We were early so we had extra special attention in which several servers explained everything about the different dishes as we explored the buffet. It was a beautiful spread, I would have liked to tried everything but after a plate of meats and the excellent corn soup, I'm stuffed. I was able to squeeze a couple of bite size desserts though. That with the bottomless mimosas, sangria or bloody Mary's for $13.00, I had a wonderful experience.

OK, mostly meat

By alexwolf2016 |

Service was pretty good. Food was quite good. We had beef and chicken empanada appetizers, osso buco and a caesar salad. A bit pricey, so value is 4/5.

Delicious Steak!!!

By MeylaTaryn |

The house picanha was perfectly seasoned and so delicious. Great side dishes and wonderful cocktails make an evening out at Sal y Pimienta a special one.

Excellent brunch

By calejandra |

Highly recommend Sal y Pimienta on a Sunday. The meats are tender and there is wide range of vegetables and salad. Excellent selection of wine. Staff is very charming. Pleasant experience.

Fantastic brunch

By JG-TX7 |

My Brazilian friend was visiting with us on Sunday, and as a surprise we took him for brunch to Sal Y Pimienta. And it was a pleasant surprise - brunch buffet was excellent with an enormous number of selections, very traditional South American. Food quality was very good, carving station was great and all tasted fantastic. Mimosa and tropical drinks were served as well. We'll be going back there for brunch.

Very good

By Dmitry S |

One of the trendy places. Good food and service. Steak was ok but it is up to individuals taste. Great place for dinner

Great steaks

By PPM81 |

This restaurant is billed as a fusion of south american flavors but where it really excels is in its steaks. The lamb chops and carpaccio are also really good. Extensive wine list. Good for couples as well as friends. Has a private room in the back. Outdoor seating available

Don't waste your time

By Toro9 |

Usually Groupon is the kiss of death for restaurants and this place is no exception. First, you get to pay $8 plus tip to valet park. Once inside the restaurant, the hostess friendly, but the servers are hit and miss. Ours was absolutely terrible. After pushing The $99 for two Monday night special and being rejected, he actually seemed angry. He then brought a slab of wood with about 12 pieces of raw meat, with varying degrees of freshness. Disgusting. Each piece was over $100. What a joke. Also, the wood tray was dripping blood and other juices onto the waiter and the floor. He wiped his hands with the same towel that he used to dry off plates and serve the next table. Yuck. The food was, well it was worthy of Groupon. The flank steak was tough and tasteless. The chicken breast was marinated, but had a funky flavor and was very salty. The star of the show was the Caesar salad, actually edible and large enough to share. We definitely will not be back, and I would be very surprised if this place is still open next year.

Stylish and tasty

By marko18745 |

Had a successful business lunch in this very lively Uruguayan restaurant. Noise level not too high, interior very stylish, and the food very tasty and well presented. Service impeccable. Good value for money. A room in the back can hold 8 - 12 for a private dinner.

Great Sunday Brunch Spot

By HoustonTX Foodies |

We were looking for a new Sunday Brunch spot and they did not disappoint! Sunday brunch is a buffet with tons of meaty choices, but also veggies, salads and some tasty desserts, definitely worth the drive for us who don't live close by! Check out Groupon for some good deals. We'll be going back soon!

Sal y pimienta

We had a Graduation Dinner at Sal Y Pimienta and everyone loved the food and the place. They offered a dinner package to accommodate with our budget. Many of our guests mentioned that they would come back again. I have been there multiple times and every time is great.

Sal y Pimienta kitchen

The Sunday buffet is excellent. Lots of different food. Whole roast pig is one of the main attraction. Lamb chops, leg of lamb, steak and a lot of different seafood choices. Desert is fantastic.

Excellent South American Banquet

By Kawana Travellers |

We had a large group for a work function in the private dining room. The banquet was spectacular, with seafood ceviche, lamb cutlets and other delicious starters. This was followed by platters of bbq meats, including steak, pork, chicken and prawns, served with grilled asparagus and other vegetables. The entire meal was tasty; the service was excellent.

Go here for a unique and savory experience

By TxGerber |

Amazing flavors combined in this kitchen. We loved everything about this South American food. In a warm environment, where you can hear the conversation, located at the far end of City Center. MUST must dine at the one of a kind place.

Plenty of dishes to love

By Dizzle28 |

I dined at this restaurant a few nights ago with some friends, two of whom were visiting from the UK. To begin with, this is a great restaurant to catch up with friends. It's not noisy, even when speaking in normal tones. So it was a great atmosphere to convene. I should point out that I had been there before years ago, for my sister's 30th birthday, but I can barely remember much from that day. The service was really good. The staff was friendly and checked on us frequently. I heard no complaints from anyone about their food, but I can only share the taste of two meals. I ordered the Short Ribs (Niman Ranch). For $35, I got short ribs "ossobuco style," braised for 3 hours in a fresh tomato & malbec reduction sauce served with carnival potatoes. The meat was tender and tasty, but my veggies were under-seasoned. I sampled my friend's food, which was the Brochette of Seafood ($29.) It was jumbo sea scallops, jumbo shrimp, swordfish and vegetables served with champagne pesto creamy sauce on basmati rice. I took a bite of her scallops and it was good. I also liked the rice, which I took her leftover to go along with my leftover meat. For dessert, I got the Cuatro Leches ($9), a Uruguayan version of Tres Leches. It was good, and I enjoyed it, but didn't compare to the real thing. My overall assessment of this restaurant is that it is a good place to dine. It offers so many varieties that you'll undoubtedly find something on the menu that you'll enjoy. I definitely recommend it.

Outstanding!

By frenchtou |

This restaurant has a small but pleasant atmosphere and a great wine list but that pales in comparison to the food. Authentic, flavorful, plentiful and good value. A hidden gem in a City of outstanding restaurants. The Service rivals any of the best restaurants in this City and many around the World. I will make this a staple on my calendar. A great place to hold a business lunch in their Private Board Room or in the Banquet room. Try it.............you'll like it! Ray

Uncovered Great Food!!!

Great waiter who knew exactly how to advise us on what to order. We tasted a variety of appetizers and desserts as well as great main dishes. Great variety of fish and meat main dishes. Beautiful looking plates.

DINNER FOR 12 IN THE WINE ROOM

By Zully L |

We had a wonderful meal .We started with "empanadas" ,spinach ,meat and corn. The spinach ones were delicious ,and the calamari fingers excellent.the special sauces on the side ,super tasty. Our main dish was fish cooked in salt that was a delicacy cooked to perfection as were the grill vegetablesThe waiter and the ambience help make the evening memorable Of course the steaks are great but for once we went for fish and we were wonderfully surprised .We strongly recommend it

Fantatic steak

By Fornebu |

Dropped in here by coincident while walking around in City Center hunting for dinner. Cosy interior and lively service. Too much meat to choose from so we just pointed on two pieces. What a positive surprise - absolutely among the best steaks I have eaten ever. Perfectly medium, excellent spicy and a taste that will last long in memory. Had a full body red wine to the meal. We were very pleased for 250 dollars.

wonderful amazingly fresh and delicious

By VIEQUESBEACHBUM |

this is my third time here and was for the amazing Sunday buffet brunch. The amount of flavorful, original food they pump out of this kitchen is awesome. The food and a great bottle of wine. what a way to spend a few hours on a Sunday afternoon. I highly re commend this place

Tasty meat!

By Gulara A |

We celebrated our wed anniversary there. the restaurant is suitable for family and friends dinners. the interior looks just like the restaurant with good food should look. We ordered their signature meat selection dish for two. And, oh Gosh, although there were three of us we did not manage to finish it! i also liked the way the food was served. I would recommend that restaurant! If you wish to save some money, you can go and purchase groupon voucher (pay 30$ for 50$).

Latin American Food Terrific!

By Savannah6 |

We ate at Sal y Pimienta Kitchen for dinner during Houston Restaurant Week (HRW). The place is Uruguayan and the food delicious. It reminds me of small locally owned restaurants in the Bay Area, CA, catering to the neighborhood patrons. Several tables had customers linger after they were done eating, and no one rushed them out. The waiters are fantastic. All tables receive complimentary homemade potato chips and chunks of bread with chimichurri sauce. Anytime we needed more water, wine poured, potato chips, a waiter must have been watching because someone was immediately at our table helping us. I had the HRW pork tenderloin, and my husband had the 8 oz filet. Both were excellent! The pork came with chimichurri sauce which was a delicious surprise. I never considered the combination, and it was great! I took half the pork home with me as it was too much to eat for dinner. The meal is a bargain at $35 each, and some profit goes towards Houston Food Bank. The desserts and salads were also very good and quite large. The only downside was that I felt the tables may have been too close together. During the pandemic I prefer to sit far away from others, and that is not possible in a small busy restaurant. They have outside dining, but in Houston in August? Who can handle that! All in all though, the dining experience was worth the risk.

Lunch

By Sunshine |

The staff was very attentive and accommodating. Waiter provided a little background about their food, how it is grilled using wood, and that they are family owned. A little on the pricey side, but food was delicious and well presented. Lunch special was $23 for salad, entree and desert. We did not order from this menu. The also have a create your own salad for $8 which had a great selection! Will go back. Extensive wine list too.

Enjoyable dining experience @ Sal y Pimienta

By Lovetakingvacation |

We went last evening with a group of 12. Reservations were in made for the private room. We were immediately seated. Our waiter was very attentive from drinks to desserts. We ordered mostly wine by the bottle. We selected quite a few & everyone liked the wine. Dinner was good everyone liked their steak and seafood dishes. They also have pastas & many other choices to choose from on the menu. Desserts were delicious . This all added up to a enjoyable evening for all of us. I would have rated it a 5 but I always believe there is always room for improvement. 😉

Tasty, good service, different!!

By Ricardo C |

Been traveling to Houston on business lately. Found Sal y Pimienta @ City Center area, where food, service and drinks were very good. They have Happy Hour on appetizers, wine & cocktails @ the Bar and/or Patio from 3PM to 6PM - very good!

Superb value Sunday Buffet

By Patrick F |

We stopped here on impulse for Sunday lunch recently - and I have to say this was a hugely pleasant and surprisingly good experience! This small Uruguayan restaurant does a really good Sunday buffet for about $32 per head for adults and $11 for children. The have an amazingly good choice of appetizers - ceviches, salmon, charcuterie, and salads; an impressive range of grilled meats- pink lamb, suckling pig, rare beef; and a huge variety of petit-fours style desserts. We will definitely make this a regular choice for Sunday lunch out with the family.

Saturday brunch

By VIEQUESBEACHBUM |

We have been to the amazing Sunday Buffet many times, but decided on a Saturday afternoon brunch. It was nice to be here without the Sunday Buffet madness. The place was quiet but the staff was bustling to get ready for the dinner crowd. Had the soup of the day and the baked cannelloni. The wife had a salad and tenderloin entree. That and a bottle of wine topped of the event. The quality of the food here and the flavors are really exceptional. This restaurant is quickly becoming one of our favorites

Amazing!

By jaclr |

Everything from the food to the waiter made our brunch an amazing experience. Our waiter took the time to explain which food items I should avoid because of my allergies, I was shocked when he didn't have to go to the kitchen to ask. The large variety on the brunch buffet made it easy for everyone, including the vegetarian to enjoy an amazing assortment of dishes. I don't dine out as often as I would like because of my food allergies so when I find a place like Sal y Pimienta I know I will return.

Outstanding meat and good wine options

By P Ruiz EGO Chilango |

My First time in this place despite many times in this trendy zone of Houston. Completely unexpected and outstanding service by the guys there. Proactive and kind. When we arrived to the meat options, after great option for appetizers, the aged meat cuts where interesting. Thankfully, they also had cuts smaller than Tomahok. So mixing two small cuts is ok. The best way to enjoy nice cuts for a small party. The Uruguayan Tannat wine option where outstanding. Definitively a place to visit in Houston, either for fun or business.

Excelllent Latin American culinary experience

By Scott L |

The menu is extensive and I think anyone can find something interesting to satisfy their palette. We started with a selection of their empanadas which were delicious, the spinach being my favorite. The picanha steak was exceptional and their Relleno de Cerdo - pork fillet stuffed with crab, shrimp, tomatillos - was extremely tasty. A couple side orders were more than enough for our group of three. The wine list is decent but a bit pricey - there are some good selections available by the glass. Nice casual atmosphere with an open kitchen to the main dining area. There are a couple private dining rooms so good for groups as well. I will be back!

Sunday Brunch

By Johnnie B |

The restaurant is fantastic! I had the Sunday Brunch. Two empanadas, Pollo Chicken and the lemon and lime pie. For the appetizer, empanadas. They were small but very good they came with a cilantro sauce. The main course was Two chicken breasts, with a avocado sauce similar to guacamole, on rice. The rice was cooked very well, so was the chicken. The avocado sauce was excellent and pulled it all together. The final part was the lemon and lime pie, also very very good. All well prepared. The restaurant had in person seating but distanced apart. They game me sanitizer for my table and the wait staff all wore masks and gloves. Very well done.

Excellent menu, food, service come at a price to match

By Jose Elle - Houston |

Sal y Pimienta offers true, high-quality South American fare. Menu is quite varied, with something to appeal to everybody. Combined, our group of four had seafood soup, strip steak, milanesa de pescado (breaded fish filet) and cannelloni and shared the frozen Uruguayan dessert. Everything was worth going back for more. Wait staff was extremely attentive, knowledgeable and pleasant. Service was prompt. The place was immaculately clean. Owner was there the whole time; it seems that he has high standards and runs a tight ship. Portions were quite generous. It was a nice touch that our waiter brought a tray with samples of all the meat offerings to help in selecting. Beware -- some of the steaks offered are intended to be shared by two or more people. Restaurant has limited capacity, but does have two private rooms that can be reserved. Reservations are accepted. Restaurant is in an open shopping area with plentiful, convenient parking. Valet parking is available in the area. Sal y Pimienta prices match the high quality that it provides -- well worth it.

Meatlover's wonderland

By TED_5757 |

I think this place is wonderful. The service is flawless. The chips are awesome and the food was sooo good. I could not eat it all. It seems to me that the workers enjoy what they are doing and they have the right formula to keep the food coming and the customers happy. The wait staff willingly answers any questions and makes recommendations. Prices are fine for what you get, menus are available on line so you can review dishes and prices. Worth several return visits! Park in the garage by Movie Studio Grill.

Ate with a work friend and my wife The restaurant is not the biggest but adequate, there are also a few seats outdoors Enjoyed the food and the service, but felt there was too mush of a push to order the high priced steaks on offer shown by the Waiter on a tray - which we did and they were very good but pricey Enjoyed the experience but will probably go elsewhere next time

Our favourite

By pclare74 |

We have been frequenting the restaurant ever since it was opened, we recently had a friend visit from abroad who want a decent steak. The meat board is a must and we shared a tomahawk steak which was delicious especially as it is cooked over wood. The service was excellent as always and their wine list has something for most palates specialising in South American wines.

Don’t miss out on this Houston restaurant!

By Darcy G |

The food and service is always excellent! The wine list is impressive. I highly recommend for a cozy Westside of Houston restaurant!

Good

I had the beef sandwich and my friend had the vegetable sandwich. Both were very tasty. The meat on the beef sandwich was very thin. Good for a woman but not a man.

I loved the ambient. Great food!

Wonderful Dinner and Service

By LadyA2A |

Sal y Pimienta was a wonderful surprise! The food was delicious. We had the pork chop and the mahi mahi and both were very good. We were able to take advantage of sitting out on the patio which was very nice. Our waiters were extremely attentative and knowledgeable and taught me how to say the name in Spanish. It was an all around good evening. We went with a Groupon and didn't have problems using it. We will be back! Oh and the creme brulee was just as good as all the reviews mentioned. I don't normally like it, but it was very tasty!

Outstanding!

By Yikes331 |

This place is one of a kind! My husband and I enjoyed a nice anniversary dinner at Sal y Pimienta and it definitely exceeded our expectations. The service was the best I have ever received at any restaurant. The wait staff worked very hard all together to ensure you never went without. The food was outstanding! We had the tuna tartar for appetizer which was full of flavor! I had the snapper which was delicious and my husband had the stuffed pork chop which he raved about all night. We did not get any pictures of the food but presentation was simple, yet elegant. We will 100% be back to this restaurant!

Outstanding meal.

By utretiree |

We went during restaurant week and had the most delicious meal ever! Appetizers: I had the calamari (and I am very critical of this dish) and it was superb, just crunchy enough and great side sauce. Daughter had ceviche and she just loved it. Son-in-law had empanadas (I am not a fan of the empanada) but he said they were fabulous. Dinner: I had mahi-mahi. Cooked to perfection! Daughter had Entrana Steak and it was so yummy. S-I-L had Puntes de Tenderloin and practically licked the plate clean. We all tried each other's and all agreed everything was luscious. Our waiter, named "Blas" was so very helpful throughout the meal. We had a 1 yr. old in a high chair at the table and Blas entertained him and kept picking up his toy that he continually threw on the floor. This restaurant was such a delightful surprise - the food, the service - the ambiance, and I would highly recommend you give it a try.

Dinner with friends

By 74Federica |

Sal y Pimienta never disappoints us. We went this Friday night for a dinner with friends and we were very satisfied. I recommend to eat meat, especially cooked in Argentinian way and a special Uruguay red wine, delicious!! The only point that I can complain it’s the price. I think it’s overpriced especially the wine list...... I understand that food and wine are very good but still is not compatible with the price. Anyway, for sure the restaurant is very good!

Sunday Funday Brunch!

By jbuck55 |

Wonderful Sunday brunch with bottomless mimosas and a delicious spread for any tastebuds. Service was excellent and loved the atmosphere. First time but definitely not the last!

A lovely Sunday lunch!

By perthprecious |

A great South American restaurant, nice atmosphere, fantastic food and excellent customer service. A casual upscale steakhouse. It's one of our favourite restaurants near us. Their steaks always cooked to perfection. I love the Lamb Lolichop and Empanadas. I think they make the best Chimicurri sauce. You guys should try their amazing Sunday Brunch Buffet but please note that it is not on every Sunday. Check out the dates for it on special menu. It's worth it. The last time we dined there was for a lunch. I had the delicate and delicious Apple Bread Pudding for dessert. It's new in the menu. But my husband thinks Cuatro Leches is the best. This is a great place to go with family, friends and for business lunches/dinners. They have 2 rooms that are available for private dining. The bar is fitted with 2 tvs so people can watch sports etc. There is also an outdoor seating at the front of the restaurant. Paid/free parking garage is a just few steps away.

Scrumptious

By Rene I |

What a great find. I was in Houston for business and wanted to have a casual steak dinner with some associates. I did not want to dine in the likes of Del Frisco or Capital Grill but we wanted a good steak dinner. Sal Y Pimienta was recommended to us and had a good rating with Yelp. The servers were all very friendly and helpful. The salads were very fresh and meats were wow too darn good. i prefer going to this establishment rather than the old school steakhouses. just try Sal Y Pimienta and let me know how you enjoyed their food.

Exceptional Tuesday wine dinner

By Agnes S |

We've enjoyed the 5 course wine dinner every last Tuesday of the month since they started the concept over two years ago. The menu is different every time, complimenting the selected wines of the day. The wine producers or importer is available to answer questions. When the wine dinner is not available the delicious standard menu is well worth a visit. Ask to see the butcher's block of specialty meats and watch it getting cooked on the wood fire grill. This family owned gem of a restaurant never disappoints!

Enjoyed it ... will return!

By USinSA |

Ceviche (check), Parrilla (meat feast), Good wine recommendation. No room for dessert, but will plan on it next time. Good food!

Beef South American Style

By slhokie |

The place has a modern style with the food being prepared in an open kitchen. They have digital pictures which display art on the walls. I had steak which was very flavorful but not real tender. The taste was great. Others had the Milanese dishes and they liked them. The prices were fair and the service was good. It is a short walk to a parking garage behind the restaurant.

Small but wonderful

By maggiet0813 |

Very nice place. Has a small bar and a private room. Small restaurant but don’t let that fool you, food is delish and bountiful. None of us could finish our whole lunch. Parking is offsite in garage but you can park on street (not easy). Very good variety of choices.

Wonderful Birthday Dinner

By Malachy F |

Three of us went here last night for a great birthday dinner. We started with 3 apps consisting of the crab Claws, the Tuna Carpaccio and the Ceviche. The Ceviche is on on a par with Gode Company's terrific campechana and was was incredible. The beef looked fantastic especially the Tomahawk steak, but after the apps we just went with the Snapper and Tortellini Relleno. I had the Tortellini once for lunch and already knew how great it was stuffed with braised short ribs. The snapper was wonderful. The next time we want to try the Branzino that is baked in salt, much like they cook the Bacala in Italy. The service was so attentive and good. Two waiters took care of us , Blas and Jesus, and both were just as good and nice as the other, with a friendly Peruvian/ Mexican rivalry. They even brought our friend complimentary Quatros Leches (Dulce de Leche is the fourth leche0as well as another great flan desert.

Great food but not QUITE 5 star

By Jermaine H |

Great deal with Groupon, and the fpod is pretty good! Drinks are good as well! Will be coming back as we have for a while

Well done!!!

By Heydoc96 |

I had dinner with my wife and her cousin about a week ago. It was the first time for the three of us, and we were not disappointed. The meat cuts are presented in a gorgeous way, that it really becomes a matter of how hungry you are when you make your choice. It was cooked to perfection. All the waiter's recommendations were well-taken and he nailed it.

Very Good Steak and Wine

By Doug G |

Excellent wine list and the steak was very good. Try the Las Hormigas Malbec. I had the filet (from Uruguay) which was very good. My friend had the Tomahawk which in my opinion was not so good (I sneaked a piece). Would I choose to go there over a Ruth Chris? Not sure. The price was about the same as a Ruths or Pappas and so was quite expensive. I think I prefer the more traditional restaurants for steak but Sal y Pimienta was very good. I need to go again to get form a full opinion.

Great Latin/South American Food!

By Joe R |

Very good Latin/South Amaerican food! They'll try to push the +$100 cuts of meat on you from their butcher block, but just stick with the more reasonably priced, permanent menu items. Lots of great flavors and decent sized portions. The wait staff is absolutely top notch, too.

Really good food and bar

By RobGeiger |

Great food, great bar selection, good South American wines. Everything in this place is good. It is a little bit pricey if you order the handout meats but they do it right.

Simply awesome South American food.

By Matthew L |

I rarely give reviews to restaurants, even less so to local eateries, however, I am willing to make an exception with Sal y Pimienta. I have visited this restaurant twice and the service and dinner was excellent both times, minus on small issue with service. The steaks are what really shines here, so tender and juicy cooked to perfection. The appetizers are also very good as is the desert menu. Service on my first visit was exceptional, however, it could have been better on my second visit. Although the service had slipped a little on my second visit it was not enough to ruin the experience. The supporting staff was excellent as usual but the main server I had seemed uninterested and uncaring about our dining experience. I feel this is just one isolated server as I noticed all others eagerly engaging their customers and making recommendations on the menu. The ambiance is very calming with lots of wood use throughout the restaurant. It’s a small dining area with an open kitchen concept. On both my visits the owner was there and happy to engage customers with any questions. There is another South American restaurant right across from Sal y Pimienta but they don't seem as busy and quite frankly I don't want to take a chance on a disappointing meal when I know I will get an awesome dinner at Sal y Pimienta. It is not cheap however, so be prepared to drop at least a C note on dinner for two. They do have a Monday special which is appetizer, an entree for two and a dessert for 99.00. They also have brunch on Sundays for 35.00 a person if you want to go and taste some different things from the menu. The wine list is extensive but very pricey which is expected here. Parking is a pain as you need to park behind the restaurant in the parking garage. If you have a special occasion and enjoy really good meal prepared by a chef that knows what they are doing, don't miss this place, you won’t be disappointed.

Outstanding

Outstanding service and food. Very hard working employees. Busy during Sunday brunch but it is worth it. Great cocktails. Would love to come back

Over the Top!

By gloriamaris |

The food & service here is incredible! We were shown all of the possible meat entrees (in the raw)and were able to pick what we wanted to eat. My meat was from Uruguay and it was so tender, it melted in your mouth. My husband and son got the dinner for two and were able to sample many of the meats that are available and still took plenty home. The pork chop lollipop for an appetizer had the best mango sauce for dipping, sweet but spicy. My dessert was the perfect topper, tow crepes stuffed with a delicious cream sauce. The whole meal was so fantastic, a good break form the regular chains.

Birthday Lunch

By Natasha W |

If you are looking for flavor, this is your place. I came here for my birthday lunch with my parents. The environment is very casual chic. The food was phenomenal. Their specialty is cooking their food in the wood grill oven. We had the ceviche which was fresh and light. They also have different cuts of meat you won’t find at other places, such as buffalo steak. The food was delicious, price is on the higher end but it was worth every dollar.

Get the "Milanesa de Pescado"

By susansbean |

I ordered the "Milanesa de Pescado" -- Fresh Flounder fillet perfectly seasoned, with salt, pepper and herbs, dipped in bread crumbs & eggs, served with rusa salad and bed of mixed greens. IT WAS DELISH! I would gladly go back an order it again. Yes, it's dipped in bread crumbs and lightly fried -- but it tasted so light, fresh and WONDERFUL. The "rusa salad" is like a potato salad and was equally flavorful and not too heavy. The bed of greens were as nice touch. And the price - $ 22.50 made it one of the better values on the menu for me. (My hub got the Brochette of Seafood -- Jumbo sea scallops, jumbo shrimp, swordfish, vegetables served/champagne pesto creamy sauce. I would not recommend this as it had too strong of a char flavor and for $29. was not something he would order again).

Fantastic Uruguayan white wine and food

Wine and food in one word: Fantastic Great ambiance, on cool location, my favourite place to stay while visiting Houston

Great find!

By 2Texas_Travellers |

I stumbled on this place while staying at Citycentre. The wine list was good and had some of my favorites. My waiter, Sal, was friendly and helpful. The mango salad was wonderful as was the tuna tartare. Will definitely go back!

Excellent for business and personal, cozy, great service, great food and superb wine selection!!

Highly recommended to make reservations, specially lunch time and almost mandatory if is Friday. The restaurant has great ambiance and the 2 private dinning rooms are great (I like better the smaller one which seats 10-12 because is close to the wine). The service is great, be open mind and let these guys guide your through the day specials. The "Tablita" is always a good starting point if you want to enjoy first a couple of glasses of wine. Beef all day long! grass fed animals provide a nicely marbled beef and when is cook to perfection in a wood grill, even better. Take your favorite beef cut, order some "yuca frita", "platoons maduros" and Provoletas and you are almost done. Under no circumstances leave without at least sharing a dessert, my favorites (in strict order) are the Chocolate Sensation, the caramel cheese cake (more a "Dulce de Leche" than caramel) and the creme brulè

Excellent meal.

Went there for dinner. Nice ambiance, not too loud. Everyone at the restaurant was extremely nice. Good wine selection. You are in a steak restaurant, we ordered an Uruguayan steak and a Japanese steak, aged, and both were fantastic!, different texture, different taste. But the surprise was the Branzino, a white fish from the Mediterranean cooked in salt, yet it is not salty tasting. The 4 leches for dessert was fantastic. Will come back next time in Houston. Excellent meal!!!

Update of Previous Review

By Mudflap99 |

The restaurant serves brunch every Sunday. There are more than 50 items to choose ranging from excellent ceviche to killer dessert items. Sal y Pimienta is noted for their painstaking selection, aging and preparation of meats. The seafood is fresh! We have dined here once a month for the past two years. They have monthly wine dinners too. Note: we drive 30 miles one way to dine here, so it must be special.

Amazing South American Rio de La Plata cuisine

By revenueguru |

Having lived in Uruguay for a time I was pleasantly surprised to find this restaurant while on a business trip in Houston. I'm told this is the only family owned restaurant in the Town and Country outdoor mall area. This is definitely worth your time. Rustic-Chic décor provides a great ambiance to enjoy true grass-fed beef imported from Uruguay. Service is very attentive.

Sunday Brunch

By Hummer615 |

Food was really tasty, loved the decor, nice atmosphere. We would have preferred a larger assortment of bottomless drinks vs 3 to chose from. Friendly staff but, our waiter once we were seated, seemed to be pushing us out the door and short serviced us on water, cream, sugar. When asked for more water, we were given a 1/4 of a glass. Would be rated higher but, our service was disappointing.

Pleasant surprise...!

My wife selected the restaurant with a little financial persuasion from Groupon! I went along as requested thinking another buffet to get stuffed. I decided I was not going to fall into the same trap and have to request a wheel-barrel to be transported to my auto... The food line was an Argentinian and Uruguayan (owned by an Italian!) representation of good eats...whole suckling roasted pig, lamb and pork lolly chops, ceviche, bit size desserts that will have you saying "what is that...sooo goood!" And the list goes on... Needless to say I could not avoid the overeating trap! Try it, you'll like it!

Good place & good food!

I just visited Sal & Pimienta for business lunch. Service, quality of food, presentation and excellent wine selection.. It is not hard to include it on our selected list of great places in Houston. Fabian and his team did an good job taking care of us.. Thank you.

Great brunch selection

Our first time for brunch here and we enjoyed the spread ! We did skip the optional bottomless sangria/mimosas. Service was efficient and recommend reservations as it does get busy. Would come back !!!

Great Recommendation

By dambanker |

Came here on a recommendation of some locals we had met earlier during the day. We were looking for a good steakhouse but something that still had a causal atmosphere. It was a great recommendation. Located in the City Center complex. Due to the current construction going on there it was a little confusing for us out of towners but we parked and walked. Very nice area with lots of good stores. The restaurant was perfect. Lots of great options on the menu and pastas for the non meat eaters. Our food was excellent and our son really enjoyed his Uruguy steak. The service was also outstanding. Highly recommend.

Here's the Beef - Uruguayan Stle

By Malachy F |

We went here yesterday for lunch and it was a good meal and nice place. Since it was lunch I decided a big piece of beef was not for me, soI tried the Tortellini stuffed with braised short ribs. It is served with a nice creamy mushroom sauce with parson cheese. It was the best thing we had. The veal cutlet was good and the Ceviche was one of the best in Houston. The empanadas were fine. Not to outdone they serve "Quartos Leches" with the fourth leech being Dulce de Leche - caramel. Iy was very good as was the key lime pie, which had more of a cheesecake texture. Next time we will go for dinner and try the Uruguayan beef.

Fixed price lunch

This was a business lunch. They offer a three course lunch with good variety. Everything came out quickly. Food was fresh. I had the empanadas, beef tenderloin and creme brûlée. Good lunch but not overfilling.

Great great steak! 4.5!!

By Jermaine H |

The steak was AMAZING and the crab was epic! Service was great and I did like the laid back atmosphere. The only thing I would change to get a 5 star rating is either a slightly lower price point as you are around the price of Eddie V's and Vic and Perry's but not quite Vic and Anthony's or Pappas Or you could maybe spruce the place up with a bit more elegance. I am being picky and a 4.5/5 is more appropriate! I WILL be back! Great great steak and mashed potatoes. The waiter offered the 151 peppers and onions which is a MUST!

Pleasantly Surprised!

By Theresa R |

My husband and I decided to enjoy the cool day and walk around Citycentre area. We decided to have a bite to eat and a glass of wine. We stumbled upon this place. My husband was in the mood for ceviche. We ordered the ceviche, an appetizer La Tableta, a house salad, and fried yucca. My husband was a bit disappointed in the ceviche. We have had much better. Seemed like it was not fresh, and a little on the dry side. I thoroughly enjoyed La Tablita and the Salad was to die for. I don't know what they did, but had the perfect amount of dressing. Delicious! It all hit the spot. It was enjoyable enough, that we will return and try other dishes. Glad we stumbled upon it. Nice atmosphere.

Always fantastic, awesome service

By BWB77024 |

I have been going here since they opened. They use to have the best buffet brunch until this crazy Covid stuff. I went today and had the normal brunch. Waiters falling over to help you, fantastic food, Never a complaint. I cant recommend it enough. The happy hour is awesome too. Most waiters are double masked, Kitchen staff with n95 masks. Totally safe.

Excellent Restaurant

We had a very enjoyable lunch here. All of the food was excellent. We had their lunch special which had an appetizer, main course and dessert. Would highly recommend this restaurant.

Been here various times during lunch hours. One of my favorites places to share a good bottle of wine and have a nice meal. Never disappointed. Always received great quality food, amazing south american flavors with a great smile...excellent service. Great ceviche, excellent grilled meats and wonderful salad options. Nice wine selection too.
