This place seems to be quite popular among the Millennial population demographic. We went on a Sunday for Brunch and there was a 10-15 min wait. All the tables seem to be outside so if it is a nice day it is a great place to eat and relax with friends. The drinks are unique, a very spicy salty bloody merry and some interesting citrus concoctions with grapefruit with vodka or tequila. The guacamole was amazing. I had a braised beef with fried egg that came with corn tortillas. It was good called the Macho Huevo. The food was good but not outstanding but a nice visit. Brunch for 3 was $109.50 before tip wuth three drinks...

Sitting outside at Salazar is a great experience. The food is amazing, as are the drinks. The clientele may be a little too hip for some, but then this is Silverlake. The owner, Billy Silverman is a great host. I eat here every time I'm in LA.

Salazar was hopping when we were there (Friday evening), but the drinks were good -- though maybe a tad pricey. Parking was a bit of a challenge. The atmosphere was fun. It's a minimalist place, almost entirely outside. Nothing fancy and the menu is short. But the tacos were exceptional and the beet side dish was excellently prepared. Prices were very reasonable. We'd go there again.

You go for the atmosphere. All alfresco dining, candle lit tables (bring your I-phones to read the menus). Large groups (we were 8) need to take the set menu. Good margaritas and fair selection of beers. The tacos are really good and freshly made, good salads, lovely trout and a bit overdone porterhouse steak. Service friendly but on the slow side. You can have a decent conversation here as the tables are nicely spaced.

Came here for drinks and dinner and loved it. Pork belly special was outstanding. Drinks were exceptional. Desert was great.

Salazar hit high on every note. We were three for lunch on a Friday and did not have to wait for a table. The service was spot on. The menu could keep us busy for several meals - al of it being delicious. It is located in an industrial area where mysteries behind doors abounds - including some art related. Parking was crazy hard but Uber would help and then you can drink all the booze you want while basking on the patio. Frog Town it is!

When you first arrive at Salazar, even before you scan the QR code for the menu, you are greeted with water and do you want chips and salsa? It will cost you $6. We asked for guacamole too. That was an additional $16. Yes, $16. Probably the most expensive guac that I have ever had. We each ordered a margarita which were good and the Caesar salad to split. This was brought in one bowl, not split, and we had to request silverware and plates. For our main course, we each ordered the Hanger steak for $35. It came with the steak and some tortillas. If you wanted anything else, it was extra. I really like the ambiance of the place and the fact that we were able to eat outside, but this is very overpriced.

Here on a Sunday lunch with family. Was not crowded. All outdoor seating.Great margaritas. The chips and homemade guacamole is delicious. We all had tacos. The chicken and beef tacos are really good. Service was excellent. Menu is via a QR code. Street parking. Definitely will come back.

I’ve now eaten at Salazar a couple dozen times and I am never disappointed by food or drinks. The mezcal Paloma is one of my favorite drinks and the mesquite wood smoked flavor is fantastic from the tacos to the trout. I always do Paloma, chips and guac, tacos and the trout for my lady.

There are so many things I need to say about this place. I’ll try and keep it short and to the point. This place is adorable, like you are hanging out in a backyard super quaint with lots of big and small tables, umbrellas to block the sun . Plates are camper style which is so cute. Appetizers: Chips ( freshly made) & Guacamole. Very good. Heirloom Salad with blue cheese crumbles and hazelnuts frisée and a light delicious dressing. Meals: Chilaquiles - probably the best thing on the menu. Great flavor perfectly cooked. Carne Asada tacos-!fresh, homemade corn tortillas , they serve a nice amount of meat. Milanese - this was ok. It was a nice piece of meat with an egg on top. It was lightly breaded and not greasy. It didn’t have allot of flavor but it was good. Desserts: Rice pudding with coconut flakes and charred bits of pineapple. GOOD!! Chocolate Nutella cake like - the presentation was nice and people really liked it. There was another dessert but I can’t remember what it was but it was tasty. Like a flan with watermelon.?? Drinks- whatever you order it will be good. All in all the would go back to this place.

Had lunch today, last day in LA on our vacations, and saved the best tacos for last! Try the carne asada tacos, its the real deal. Service was great

We met friends here for lunch and had a wonderful meal with excellent conversation. Dining on the patio was very comfortable. The food and beverages were excellent. The waiter helped make recommendations and we were all quite pleased with our choices. We had Chorizo with eggs, All the variety of tacos, a shrimp quesadilla, and the breakfast burrito. All of the food was tasty. The guacamole was outstanding and I loved the fire-roasted salsa with the fresh chips. The margaritas were delicious and the beer list was impressive.

Urban restaurant in Los Angeles with mostly outdoor dining. They do have heaters around the tables. Went on a Friday night and had about a 30 minute wait. The waiting area was very large and completely outside, For seniors it was dark and a lot of noise. The food was very good. Bar was good with wine and beer. A little over aggressive parking guard, who did not want Uber drop offs right in front of the walk in driveway. We had fun.

Pretty tasty and great vibes. Service- everyone we interacted with was friendly and attentive Food- guacamole has pumpkin seed, really nice added crunch. Elote, so happy it was off the cob and nice flavor. Tacos for the sun, great mix of meats and toppings, and the burrito was huge, beef so well seasoned. Vibes- coming off the street you would never know this was here. The outdoor space was lovely, simple but classy decor, and great use of space. Cocktails were beautiful, cool bar setup for when you're waiting for your tables. Parking can be tough, but it's worth it. All staff wearing masks.

We were so excited to come here after multiple recommendations, and having seen how many people are constantly waiting for a table at peak times. Unfortunately, halfway through the meal, my wife and I looked at each other and expressed our disappointment. The positive notes are that the space is fun, and it's clear that the quality of the ingredients is quite high. They make most everything in-house, and clearly source their ingredients from good sources. The service was friendly and amenable. That said, this was the blandest "Mexican inspired" food I've ever had. In Spanish, we call this "sazón," and this place has zero of it. Even salt was sorely lacking from most dishes. Pair that with the high-prices, and it's a no-go. I'd consider this place if you're just looking for a good atmosphere, drinks, don't care much about tasty food, and are OK paying a premium.

We ate dinner here on a Friday night. It was very busy. We waited to be seated. We ate outdoors. They had heaters, as it was chilly. Our food was excellent, although a bit pricey. We were celebrating a birthday. I would go again and I recommend it for Mexican food.

Heard this used to be a good restaurant, but not now, frankly. Corn tortillas tasted weird (faint rotten eggs). Salsa without any flavor or heat, guacamole kinda nada. Hanger steak OK, but part medium rare/part well done as the meat was not nearly of uniform thickness. In LA, you should be able to do better. Service was good, though.

This is perfect spot for casual yet tasteful dinner. The outdoor seating, the music and coloured lamps put you in a great mood. The staff is great and helpful. As a group of nine this was an excellent way to start an evening containing both quality drinks, rich food and easy-going atmosphere.

Good food, good service, nice ambiance. I won't repeat good things said by others. My only note is on parking. They have no parking, period, one must park two to four blocks away. You can't drop people off in front (and go park the car) as they have several signs - the restaurant that is - not to stop, even momentarily. What you must do is go forty yards or so past the restaurant (on Ripple Street), stop at the curb, unload there, and then go find a street parking spot. The business to their south - a nightclub - does have valet parking and you are permitted to use their valet (that is, you may tell the valet you are going to Salazar's, you do not have to misrepresent yourself). However, their parking is very restricted. I used their valet ($10) and it took awhile for me to get the car retrieved as it was packed in behind several other cars. Next time I go, and I will go again, I will drop my party off at the curb just past the restaurant then park my car on the street. From my perspective, this is the only negative I can think of.

This hidden gem is worth the trip! The food was amazing and service was top notch. The atmosphere was nice & low key, and the patio area is nicely decorated.

The waiting times was much better than last time 20 mins instead of 45 min. Plus service was also improved! Many empty tables while we waited at the bar. So we thought kitchen is small - they cannot have too many orders for the kitchen staff. Tacos - chicken very good preferred them to beef. Pork chop excellent. Grilled veggie salad very tasty ( but Brussels sprouts were too raw!) Downside - guacamole & chops $12 too expensive for a very small bowl. Need to change price! Wine - we prefer to be served in a wine glass.

Needed a place to celebrate my daughters graduation from CSUN and Salazar was the perfect venue. 12 of us traveled from NJ to LA and my daughter and her roommate made a party of 14. We were seated outdoors at a large rectangle table so everyone was able to chat. We did their tasting menu which consisted of all kinds of Mexican food. Nate was our server and he was wonderful. He recommended all kinds of drinks and never let us go dry. Their cocktail selection is amazing and they also have Mexican coke. The food never seemed to end. Started with homemade guacamole, salsa and chips followed by 3 types of salads. Then they brought out tacos, beef, chicken and vegetable. There was enough for everyone to have all 3 types but don't do that because there is more food to come. Rainbow trout and steaks were next along with too many sides to mention. Everything we tasted was wonderful. I did not hear any complaints. Finally dessert comes, I surrendered by then but the hearty eaters continued on. There were 3 or 4 different desserts and all were consumed. I would recommend trying the tasting menu if you enjoy eating. Great way to sample a lot of their dishes. Can't wait to visit LA again so we can enjoy another meal at Salazar. Thanks again to Nate (Nathan) for really making my daughters graduation dinner wonderful.

After landing and renting a car, we checked into our house and went directly to Salazar to dine al fresco. Tortillas and their fillings were excellent.

Unfortunately the service was terrible. We started the meal ordering a round of drinks, chips and guacamole, and 2 salads to share. The salads were completely forgotten. During the meal we ordered a new round of drinks, 3 of which were forgotten. As far as the food goes, of the 5 dishes ordered, the favorite was the machaca. The tacos were mediocre and not remarkable in any way. We liked the cocktails! Very creative and delicious. Overall it's a pricey place that seems a little bougie for the neighborhood. I would go back to sit on the patio with a drink and some chips and salsa.

Initially, I was very excited about Salazar. Everyone knows that I have a passion for mezcal and Mexican food. When my friend heard I was coming into town, she suggested we try it. She said they had mezcal, fresh made tortillas, and outdoor seating. It sounded great. So great, that I thought I might want to cover it for a travel dining piece that I'm currently working on. However, little did I know I was about to eat to worst tortilla of my life. As I approached, the smell of wood smoke wafted through the air. I was getting hungry and a little thirsty. The lovely patio contained a lively crowd of hipsters flanked by tall cacti and palm trees. The atmosphere seemed ideal (aside from way too many space heaters for perfect weather). I waited for my friend in the crowded bar area and began to check out their mezcal menu. They have an incredible selection of mezcales at outrageous prices. IF a venue is going to charge up to $60 per shot of mezcal, you should have a bar staff that is extremely knowledgeable about what they are serving. They couldn't answer the most fundamental questions about the mezcales they were serving. They were virtually clueless to the origins nor the types of maguey. I ended up with a drink called a "La Luz de Jesus". It was tasty and delightful looking. The sweet, yellow drink was garnished with a smoldering corn husk. Spoiler alert: That was the best part of the meal. We were seated and ordered a sampling of the menu to share. The service was mediocre – the bus service staff more efficient than the wait staff. Our food came at a reasonable time and our tiny two top was quickly overflowed with a platter of Whole Branzino and sides of esquites, rice, beans, chips, salsa and, of course, fresh tortillas. Unfortunately, none of the dishes were really notable. Aside from the cocktail, the chips and salsa were the best thing on the table. The salsa had a slight smokiness and was pretty good. However, everything else left the taste of disappointment in my mouth. The branzino looked wonderful, but was bland and dry. It definitely needed the salsa with which it was served. The beans presented beautifully in a bowl, also were unimpressive. The rice was unremarkable. It was like rice you would get at any family Mexican restaurant. But where they really failed was with the esquites and tortillas. The esquites arrived at the table looking like an unappetizing gruel with a blob of sour cream on top. My friend began to mix in the blob of sour cream. The kernels of corn began to gob onto the spoon. And I began to cringe. The bowl of corn looked a mess and tasted the same. I've never seen chunky, dry esquites in any region I've visited in Mexico. But maybe these people have never visited Mexico either. I try to find some excuse. I hope they are clueless people trying to make a buck off a trend. Nonetheless, there is an abuelita rolling over in her grave right now about those tortillas. I (and my ancestors) would give the restaurant zero stars based solely on the offense of the worst tortillas I have ever tried. I've made dozens of tortillas with powdered masa and masa from fresh corn. I can't for the life of me figure out what they are serving... they are flavorless, gummy discs. There is no flavor from the comal, it's almost like they are steamed or something. Maybe they are overworking the masa and the corn is producing too much gluten. Whatever it is, I don't want to know. Any store-bought tortilla or tortilla from a tortilleria in Boyle Heights would vastly improve the menu. One Star - Ambiance One Star - Cocktail Zero Stars - everything else. I'm really sad to have to say this about Salazar – but, do yourself a favor, save some money and couple hours of your life (parking isn't very fun at this location). While you're in LA, enjoy a taco truck or a more traditional local Mexican restaurant. You'll get way better food for a fraction of the price. Needless to say, I won't be returning to this restaurant nor covering it for any travel blog soon.

My wife and I were in town visiting my brother and his wife. We ate here Sunday night. My wife and i split the ny strip steak which was tasty. We also split a salad which was also good. My cousin had the shrimp which she loved.

Salazar is in an interesting location, on the edge of the LA River, near the 5 Freeway underpass and near the 2 Freeway north onramp. It was converted into a restaurant from an auto repair shop with nothing much around it. First off, there’s no convenient parking and the neighbor is dicey so be careful where you park. As the sign says, you can’t be dropped off at the entrance. As you enter, there’s only loose gravel to walk on, no pavement, which is murder with high heels or sandals and, needless to say, it is not wheelchair accessible. The food and drinks are good, not great, and pricey. My unexpected bonus was five mosquito bites since dining is outdoors only!

Great place , great vibe , great food , great drinks, great location and great outdoor space. Why dont more LA restaurants have outdoor spaces like this ? as the sun shines all day long.

We were very disappointed in Salazar. The service was friendly and efficient but the food was overpriced and tasteless. We had the guacamole and chips to start which were bland and boring at $15! The pastor taco also was flavorless as was the breakfast burrito. Even the hot sauce had no flavor, spice or heat. The shrimp cocktail was passable as was the beer. Our meal was $80. We felt ripped off and price is never an issue for good food. The ambiance was charming in a funky kind of way in a marginal area. We will not return.

Could be my favorite place in LA!! Yes, there was a wait, but it was worth it. Sipping away on a delicious margarita, surrounded by plants and greenery, felt like I was in Baja. Our server was terrific - helpful, efficient, and funny. The food was delicious. We particularly liked the carne asada fries...a bit like Mexican "poutine". Had a selection of tacos on fluffy little tortillas and a delicious salad. Will make this a "go to" spot whenever I'm back in LA.

Terrible service; unremarkable food. Decided to pay our bill and scram. Won’t be going back, don’t believe the hype. Families should head elsewhere.

Great food and extraordinary good cocktails! I recommend Verde! Great outside patio, works on first come first serve... Cool upcoming area near Los Angeles river... Has been a car repair garage, now remodeled into a really cool and laid back restaurant and bar!

Truly, the best taco in LA. Al Pastor goodness and amazing house margaritas! This Is a jam packed spot for Dinner service, but fantastic for a weekend brunch!

The menu offers many small plates as well as dinners to share. We ordered a potpourri of choices and enjoyed every one. The hangar steak was marinated and cooked to perfection. The pinto beans cooked with pork and cheese, melted in your mouth. Fresh guacamole, home made tortillas, roasted vegetables, el pastor tacos and a shrimp ceviche were all delicious! The beverage menu offers a variety of beers and non-alcoholic drinks as well as a full bar. We four were very happy and look forward to returning.

A fantastic spot that's hard to get a reservation for! They have top-notch drinks, excellent service, and tasty food—the zucchini taco was especially delicious. But the true reason I'll keep returning is for the magical stray cat that roams the outdoor area. This gorgeous creature isn't affiliated with the restaurant; in fact, they request that guests avoid feeding or even interacting with it. Still, I’ll absolutely be coming back as often as possible to enjoy both the cat’s presence and the incredible watermelon mezcal margarita.

Simple good unpretentious food-YUM! Stopped here for a Sunday brunch. It was very hot out, but had an umbrella at our table. The service was very friendly and helpful. I had the beet salad and beef taco. Guest had the Chorizo and potato dish. Also had some corn dish with cheese . It also was so fresh!

We reserved a big table for a party of 10. The chef set the menu and we had a feast! Great atmosphere, great service and great food! Highly recommended!

I heard about this new Mexican restaurant from some Uber riders I gave a ride to. It is located on the northside of Frogtown (Elysian Valley) in Los Angeles. On Fletcher at the corner of Ripple/Crystal, a very busy intersection. If you Uber have your driver drop you off on Ripple, it's just a short walk to the restaurant. The street tacos are tasty and plentiful. I especially enjoyed the grilled Caesar salad and the elote (corn). House margarita was very refreshing. Our server was very nice and attentive. I hope this restaurant enjoys a long stay.

Salazar is located in what seemed like the back of beyond of LA. A friend took me there. If you live in LA the distance may not seem so great. This was the only restaurant in an industrial area, with the LA River nearby. The former filling station is now a hip hangout serving delicious Mexican food and drinks - I stuck with the house Margarita, as some of the more exotic drinks seemed to have a lot of ice. Entrees are brought to the table with small, handmade flour tortillas. You are encouraged to make your own tacos from your entree, home style. You do have to supplement that entree with rice and beans, as they are not on the plate. The vegetarian beans looked better than they tasted, which was bland. The guacamole, which I think is a measure of the food in any Mexican restaurant is terrible. Runny, no chunks to give it that "just made" texture, also bland. My skirt teak was very good, it had a nice char. Once the sun goes down, there is very little lighting. Salazar needs to invest in some kind of overhead lighting, especially given the uneven dirt floor. This is an outdoor place. Some may not like that dogs are allowed, as you'll have unwanted company staring at you to spare a bite - annoying. If you are in the area, it may be worth a visit, but a bit of a drive from Hollywood.

We love Salazar. It has been around awhile, but we only discovered it a few months back. They have a huge open space with a Palm Springs feel and comfortable seating. The food is amazing. They have all sorts of awards and all are deserved. They keep up with everything. You won't get a bad meal here or have a bad night. We love their chicken and their tacos will take your breath away. Their trout is out of this world. It is just a great place.

Such a lovely outdoor space for enjoying friends, dates, drinks and food. Warm and welcoming staff, extremely attentive. The Tex Mex is beyond words! I love the guacamole. Their veggie tacos are incredible … full of the most delicious mushrooms I’ve ever tasted. Their tortillas are handmade and taste like Heaven. For dessert we had the churros. Yummy!!! I can see why it’s hard to get a reservation here, it’s FABULOUS!

Very good mexican fare for a brunch - the burritos, the salads, the coolest cocktails. It was a beautiful Sunday and we thoroughly enjoyed this restaurant near Frog Town and walking distance from Los Angeles river where the bougonvilla was blooming. Service was excellent. Overall - I recommend it.

Finding a parking space is a challenge but worth the hassle to enjoy killer margaritas and small plate tacos. The guacamole is chunky and the salsa is made in-house. The service was friendly and prompt.

This restaurant was yummy. You could not tell from the outside but once you sit down it’s yummy. The best steak tacos in Los Angeles. I highly recommend this place.

Salazar is one of those types of restaurants that you really only find in Southern California. Totally outside, slight hipster feel, delicious food and a vibe you just can’t replicate anywhere else. We started off with the elotes and then had a quesadilla and tacos for our main. All were just amazingly good. It would be a 5 star place if it wasn’t for the fact it was almost pitch black where we were seated (I get it’s a vibe - but this was way too dark) and even though we had a reservation 30 minutes prior to close we were seated at close and our server was really rushing, then disappeared completely, then we got another server who was annoyed to have an additional table. All that aside we would come back in a heartbeat!

Hip, easy going place with good tacos and great vibe in a happening area of Los Angeles. The handmade tortillas are great, service is very friendly, great CA people watching.

Me and my wife love this place, we frequent it quite a bit. The menu changes to keep things fresh and it never disappoints. great drinks and a wonderful ambiance. If visiting LA don't miss this place.
Delicious
Excellent tacos, tasty meat, very nice atmosphere and lemon trees as a background. I highly recommend this place.
