Best South American Grill

The food is amazing and the owner and chef come out to make sure your food came out to your taste! Great steaks and pasta. They also have great wines from Chile, Argentina and Uruguay.

Authentic

By JscottHouston_Texas |

My husband ordered take out for his 85 year old South American Mother. His eyes were bigger than his stomach. He ordered melanasa, steak and empanadas. Plantains and chimachuri were included. Each meal was perfect for a very hungry man. The food was delicious. My mother in law loved it! We had the flan and it was a creamy concoction, with a perfectly burned caramelized sugar sauce.

An explosion of Flavors!!!!

By asmile2day |

Not sure where to start...maybe the bread and chimichurri. But first, we were greeted by the most charming young man. He was very pleasant, professional and sincere, (we'll elaborate a little later). He seated us, handed us our menus and went to get our ice teas. He came back to take our orders and brought us some fresh and homemade, warm bread cooked to perfection and this amazing chimichurri sauce. Can't believe I really piled on the chimichurri quite as thick as I did but I was hungry and the combination of flavors REALLY tasted great. Next our orders came out of the kitchen. My mom and aunt ordered the Pork Chops and I ordered the Steak Nicole. All were fantastic. Meats cooked to perfection and the vegetables were cooked as they should be with the utmost of skill. Flavors were spots on. As strange as it sounds even the vegetables (which is my least favorite) were out of this world and I ate them all. Later we learned, as the owner, his wife and cook (father/father-in-law) all came out to visit us, this is a family owned business and was apparent they REALLY care. As we are from Colorado, the "wife" visits very often and could compare notes. Couldn't have been more pleased with this dining experience. Oh yeah...the waiter...he was sooooooo great, he set us up with the chimichurri sauce we could enjoy to smother over our toast and eggs at our hotel for the next morning. AMAZING. Please visit them. I am sure you will enjoy the restaurant. FYI...come with an appetite as the portions were generous and we could not finish all of our meal.

PLESANTLY SURPRIZED

By andrea r |

The food is very good. Grilled vegetables are great, but I would like more variety in sides. Great atmosphere. Good wine selection. Request the grilled chicken in advance--it's excellent.

Excellent food - great value

By Seldom_at_Home |

I work right around the corner from this restaurant and take people there often. My guest always are well pleased with the food and Gus and his team provide friendly service. They offer great value especially the daily specials.

Spun the restaurant wheel to Saldivia's, came up a winner

By yetwave |

OK, I live here. we decided to step out of our dining box last Sutrday night and were swayed by our trust in Trip Advisor to try Saldivia's. What a winner! For the quality of the food and the superiority of service, Saldivia's is a hit with us. We were excited to find this jewel and will definitely be back-with friends.

Another nice dinner at this authentic Uruguayan restaurant

By Michael M |

This was my second visit to Saldivia's. The food, wine and service we as good or better than my first visit. The owner is very knowledgeable of the Uruguayan wines on his list made with the primary grape of Uruguay, tannat. He recommended a very reasonably priced bottle and once opened and decanted it proved to be delicious. I will be back again.

My favorite place to eat!!

By Jessica C |

This place is absolutely wonderful! Everything they serve to they way they lovingly greet you at the front door! For a year I worked right next to this place and never thought it was open. I switched jobs and now all of our suppliers bring us here. And when its the day for Saldivia's, we are all super excited! You don't find wonderful family ran restaurants anywhere anymore! I love Saldivias, and the whole family!!

Awesome Food, Amazing service and chimchuri to die for

By Aquayreous |

I found this gem via the reviews and worked out perfect that it was en route from business meetings to hotel afterwards. The family business shows attentive service and exceptional quality of food. House made chimchuri was even better than my wife's (which says a LOT) and I couldn't get enough of it with my ribs, veggies and fresh bread. Wine selection is very good and would definitely go back again. Like others have said, do not be turned away by the non-descript location because it's easy to park and the food is what dining is all about. -d

Excellent....except one small thing....

By Getawayguy |

The food & service were great and reasonably priced. The only small thing was that they originally seated us by the wall and there was a rotten smell. We simply moved to another table and all was well. The shrimp wrapped in bacon with rice and veggies was very good. The salmon over rice was also delicious. Our server barely understood, and didn't speak, english so be prepared to "show" what you want on the menu.

Solid Lunch at Saldivia's

By Salsgang |

It is a bit assuming in from the outside. In an average strip mall that is currently undergoing some renovations. But it is very pleasing on the inside. Spacious, dark paneled interior with nice bar. We had a business lunch. I had the bacon rapped shrimp with rice. Very good. All meals come with salad and bread. Our server was prompt and friendly. I would definitely go back to try some other dishes. Overall a good meal.

Great food and service!!

By DFSLoveToTravel |

I did not feel like cooking so I checked Trip Advisor for some place different. WOW!! Great service and amazing food. I had the skirt steak. Amazing! Another great meal at a restaurant in a strip mall. I love these types of places. From the outside, you may question your decision. However, you will not regret trying this establishment.

Bacon wrapped shrimp was awesome

By Flipflop |

While in Houston for business we found Saldivia's on Tripadvisor's suggested restaurants to eat at in Houston. We were not dissapointed! The waiter suggested empanadas for an appetizer and we tried one beef and one spinach/cheese. The spinach and cheese one was definitely our favorite. For dinner we both had the bacon wrapped shrimp with roast potatoes and vegitables and it was so delicious. The portion was huge and I had to give up before I had finished everything. For desert we tried the tres leche cake and the creme brule. Both were very good but we were just so full from dinner we couldnt eat much of either. I would highly reccomend Saldivia's to anyone looking for great flavorful food.

Decent South American Cuisine

By DTL919 |

I've only been to Saldivia's during lunch on weekdays since their lunch menu is quite affordable. For $10, you get a salad and entree which is generally good, but can get tiresome given that they use the same/similar seasoning on all their entrees. I've had their boneless beef short ribs, grilled pork chops and grilled beef kabobs on several different occasions and their meats are always cooked perfectly. They do love their oregano and use it in pretty much all their meat dishes. The side/house salad is almost always overwhelmed with vinaigrette so I tend to skip the dressing or tell them to put less of it in my salad. Portions are good and the waitstaff are always polite and professional. Saldivia's a good place for a quick lunch at the right price.

Surprisingly Good

By zepper50 |

Surprising because the restaurant is located in an old strip center and has a very unexciting facade. Good because the parking is easy and adequate, menu varied featuring foods from Uraguay and Argentina. Empanadas superb. Beef dishes tender and flavorful. Vegetables fresh and perfectly grilled. Flan for dessert with leche que mara elegant and we could have had much more. Coffee was rich. Chimi churro flavor filled served with hot rolls. I highly recommend going.

Fantastic!!!

By Laura R |

My husband and I were in town for the Texans game, and we wanted to find a nice meal that wouldn't break the bank. Success!!!!! Great steaks, empanadas and chimmichurri to die for. Topped of with dulce de leche flan for dessert. An amazing meal, that rivals most churrascurrias and steak houses, all for understanding $60, including drinks. We will return!!!

Excellent Uruguayan cuisine

By AMZHouston |

I had a really good first experience at Saldivia's. This is a great option if you are into masterfully grilled steaks. And if you work in the Westchase district, they have lunch specials that are a great value. There is a live tango performer on Saturdays that I have yet to watch. Service is great.

Great new location

By captainmcd |

Saldivia's began in Bellaire, but moved to Westheimer a few years ago, but to a hard to find location behind a strip shopping center just East of Beltway 8. A couple of months ago it moved to a better location, no longer hidden from view from the street, now about 4 blocks West of Beltway 8. The new location is much better, has a lot more space, and a lot more customers as well, which can be good and bad. We actually had to wait for a table on Saturday Night, a fist! Most of the staff and the owner are still there, and working much harder than before. The tango singer and guitarist are still there on Saturday night. I saw a lot of groups and families there this time. There is even room to dance. All my best to the owner for a successful new location.

Great food and nice ambience. Highly recommend this restaurant.

By Hari2209 |

I have been to this restaurant 5-6 times and never been dissappointed. It is a family owned restaurant with very good food. The ambience is nice and Customer service is very good. If you are in mood for South American food, you must try this place. I have tried grilled fish and chicken and both were very good. The Tres leches dessert was Yum, Yum, Yum.

A good restaurant will move to a better location.

By captainmcd |

We have had dinner here about once every two months for the past couple of years. The meals are great, with good ingredients that are well prepared. On Saturdays they have a guitar player and vocalist that make a lively atmosphere. The only negative is that the restaurant is in a strip center hidden behind another block of shops, and the area has a run down appearance. Now I have been iformed that they will move to a better location at 10850 Westheimer, about six blocks west of their present location, on the other side of Beltway 8, across from a Target store. I have never had a bad meal at Saldivia's.

This is my favorite restaurant in Houston!

By Martin K |

I always receive great service and my favorite dish is the chicken Milanese.

Great food! Wonderful personal service! Good Value!

By teresas1220 |

The location is at Westheimer and Beltway 8 makes it convenient. Just thinking about their food makes my mouth water. The steak melts in your mouth. My daughter and I like to split their fish special. Regardless of the type of fish, it is always so delicious! Last but definitely worth mentioning is the tres leches cake!

BEST FOOD,BEST SERVICE

By Eddie G |

Eating at Saldivia's is the perfect food experience. Great food "Capeletis a la Caruzzo " and the delicious "flan con dulce de leche".uhmmmmm. The service is very personal by Gustavo the owner, making feel you like family!!! Two thumbs up!!!.

Hidden gem

By wasmith59 |

I chose this for a different dining experience in Houston. Although it's in a strip mall, the restaurant is nice and spacious. I had the Argentine version of veal parmigiana: Milanesa Napolitana. Excellent. Generous portion. Excellent wine selection, with special pricing for To Go bottles. Helpful and friendly staff. Family owned.

Never judge a book by its cover

By 2112Traveller |

OK ... if you want to be seen by people eating a meal looking swanky ... this is not the place for you ... If you want to have a fantastic meal with great wine and friendly service ... then this is the place ... TBH ...we were in disbelief ... ranked high in Houston it was like ... why ? We had to try ... Straight away the server was talking ... Liverpool, strikers, world cup ... friendly ... OK bread was white ... try the sauce in the middle of the table ... OMG what is in that ... delicious ,.. Starter : Blood Sausage ... changed the other meat sausage to blood sausage .. no problem ... OMG what is in that ... delicious ... My main was fish ... salmon came ... slightly overcooked for me ... but delicious and veg was cooked well ... My colleagues both had steak and they both stated it was one of the best steaks they had had, Wine .. we took the servers recommendation ... there are Chilean, Argentinean and Uruguayan wines ... very smooth wine ... and OK value ... Having being amazed at the quality of the starter and the main ... I had to try a dessert ... I am not a dessert so when I order I normally have a mouthful and pass it around but leave half ... not tonight ... I was almost licking the plate clean ...OMG what was in that ... delicious ... Then to sum it all off ... we came out ... it is raining ... I went back in to ask them to ring for a taxi .. OK ... the server comes out and drives us across the road to the hotel (it was literally across the road) .. .but even so ... come on ... THAT IS SERVICE ... This is a great place ... I am going back ... but next time there will be more than three of us ... Thanks for a great evening ...

Delicious and outstanding!

By ShaSha3434 |

We visited this place based on the reviews. The reviews are spot on. It is in a dated, understated strip center but inside is nice. the food and service were terrific. I would never have found this gem without Trip Advisor. Thank you!!!

New location, same great food

By prm78 |

Excellent South American cooking .. just love the meats, especially the chuletas de cordero (perfect flavour!), not to mention the entrana and asado. All with an appropriately sized accompanying potatoes and vegetables. And to start, there are empanadas, cold cuts, and the classical tomato and onion salad. The house wines are good ... And all at a very reasonable price. Perhaps slightly under-staffed, but the wait-staff do a good job, whatever. This has become one of our regular spots in Houston.

Great dinner

By Chlrman |

As others have said don 't let the outward appearance if strip center fool you. Food and inside of restaurant very nice, food is great, service is great, maybe a bit pricey but no complaints.

Argentina in the Strip Mall

By Mike B |

Authentic place..haven't gone through the whole menu - but tastes very nice..not 5 star however. The main plus is the family friendly atmosphere. You can go there business or family and relax and have a nice and reasonable dinner. Not as good as some places in Buenos Aires - but pretty close for Houston standard. The owner is around and authentic, too. Hard to find in Houston where some German places are run by Mexican owners. They have good lunch deals as well. Definitely more relaxing than the 'high octan" Brazilean churascerias in the neighborhood of Westheimer, where you spend twice as much and dont have the relaxed atmosphere...

Great food

By TAMAN1951 |

Chicken was delicious. Vegetables were excellently prepared. Homemade sauce was over the top. I will be back as the service is very good as well.

Excellent Resturant

By natd0g323 |

Absolutely delicious! Worth the drive from downtown. Skirt steak cooked to perfection and service rocks. Good luck with the move.

Here's the beef

By disantisp |

Great steak here and tasty appetizers. Futbol dominated the atmosphere. I met the owner. He apologized for the other loud clients watching the game. It was great.

Food was ok but service was not

By Alicia |

We drove from the NPG area based on reviews and were disappointed. The location is clean and the decor is fine. Our waitress was just non-attentive no other way to put it. The food was good but there was not a lot of flavor in the way of seasoning. The empanadas, chimichurri and tres leche cake were all great. My husband got the short rib which was very tender but very lightly seasoned. We are not experienced with Argentinian cuisine so that may be typical.

Superb South American Cuisine

By JLPage |

The steaks are marinated in a chimichuri sauce and grilled to perfection Argentina style, as are the veggies also grilled and served with steak potatoes. The boneless beef ribs are slow roasted and melt in your mouth. The Milanese steak has been been beaten thin and tender with a wonderful spiced fried batter. The Malbec wines from Chile and Argentina pair well with the meats. Service is low key and excellent. Saldivia has been a top ranked chef in Houston for over two decades. Saldivia's location in a strip mall at Westheimer and the Beltway is not fancy, but is convenient for West Houston. Come for the great blood at reasonable prices. We enjoy business lunch and dinners here on a regular basis.

Quaint family owned restaurant with great food and wine!

By sharpie11 |

Saldivia's is an affordable place for a great meal, friendly staff and fine wine. They have a great lunch along with daily specials. You get alot of food for the price too. The best is when they show the "soccer" games -(yes, I am an American so it is soccer to me.) The South Americans are a blast to be with when they are playing soccer! Such a fun experience at Saldivia's. They have a nice, more private room if you need a business lunch or a larger gathering for dinner. Please visit this place. I know you will really like it. I have been there several times and will continue to go back.

Service off a bit today

By TAMAN1951 |

After being seated and ordering drinks, nothing happened for 10 minutes except a nice conversation by the waitstaff. Eventually drinks were delivered and we had to ask for bread again. Finally took our order and the meat was a little on the tough side (quite unusual). Not the normal great experience but every place is entitled to an off day. We will try again.

Go and return

By Edith G.F. |

Excellent food and good quality!!! We had the best lunch with my family, also I've been there for business and I liked the friendly people too.

We'll definitely return to Saldivia's

By ReddogTechmom |

After going to the old location and discovering the restaurant had moved a few miles away, we were glad we kept looking for it. The ambiance was casual but very clean and nice. There is obviously a loyal soccer clientele because the large screen TV at the end of the room was showing the Copa Americas game. We were there during a fairly quiet time and enjoyed a leisurely dinner. The first taste hooked us...their chimichurri sauce was phenomenal, the Chilean wine was inexpensive but perfect for our grilled chicken entree. Everything was fresh and beautifully prepared, and it was very reasonably priced. The owner strolled by to chat and the chef came out to see if we were pleased with our meal. We give it 2 thumbs up and will return soon!

Almost like in Uruguy.

By Isaac B |

Nice place to go with family or friends. I was there with my family. As appetizer we ordered the Provoleta that normally is an aged Mozzarella. Unfortunately I think they serve us Mozzarella or a very young Provoleta. I was very disappointed. As main dish we order “Parrillada Completa”. The chorizo, morcilla and mollejas were very good, the seasoning of the meat and the taste is excellent, but unfortunately the meat was not tender. In my opinion they need to use USDA PRIME or at least USDA CHOICE if we want a tender Vacio. As dessert we had “Tres Leches”, recommended.

A great place to eat

By Mike L |

I have read the last 8 reviews, went to the place, ate the food, and I agree enthusiastically with their opinion. Empanadas are delicious the flank steak was seasoned and done to perfection. The service was impeccable. They have a South American version of pesto sauce called chimichurri sauce that is sublime. We would most definitely go there again.

Eccellentissimo !

By Tony T |

This has to be one of Houston's best restaurants. We enjoyed it very much. The service was first-class. The food was, as I already said, eccellentissima. .

Uneatable meat!

By 75Pam |

Had their Monday lunch special today, ASADO Beef flat ribs served with grilled vegetables and roasted potatoes. The beef was so tough neither of us could eat ours. The restaurant had only five other customers and it was noon! We will never be back!

Great Argentinian Grill

By John H |

Do not be fooled by the nondescript strip center. This place has some great meat and empanadas. The meat was flavored perfectly and the chimichuri was excellent and not too overpowering. We will definitely be coming back.

We went on a bad night?

By 61adventuregirl |

Based upon the glowing reviews here, we drove 20 minutes from our Houston hotel, hoping to find delicious Latin American food. At first, we thought we were at the wrong place. We found Saldivia's in a nondescript strip mall and the place was empty except for one other couple. We have traveled extensively in South America, and we know what good Latin American food is (see my review for Americas, another Houston restaurant). We first ordered the beef empanadas, which were a poor representation of one of our favorite appetizers. My husband then had the entrana, a beef skirt steak, which was good but not special. I ordered a breaded chicken breast with mozzarella and tomatoes, which had no flavor. To my horror, I found a tiny piece of wire (maybe from a wire pot scrubber?) that had been baked into the chicken. The restaurant's owner/manager who was there that night, and who was not the older man in the photo, seemed like a very nice guy. I didn't complain, though I left all but a few bites on my plate, and we paid our pricey bill and left hungry. I hate to give bad reviews, but I want to warn my fellow travelers about this place. We can't believe this is one of the top-rated restaurants in a city with so many very fine restaurants!

Outstanding steak/incredibly low price

By BarbaraG20 |

Wow! We chose this restaurant based on reviews, and the steak was amazing -- so tender and flavorful and juicy. We will definitely be coming back!

Delicious Uruguyan Food with great music!

By kkitty36 |

Went there last night for a date night and I was extremely impressed- it started with very friendly waiters and the owner coming to say hello, then the warm bread that we put their homemade chimichuri on (I could eat the chimichuri with a spoon!), then the argentinan white wine (only $6/glass- very good price) followed by our empanada appetizers (spinach and cheese was my favorite) and the skirt steak and pasta entrees. And to top all this off, there was an amazing singer/guitarist who only spoke and sang in Spanish but was so encapsulating and fun (he would go around to the tables and get you to sing parts of the song). Oh and I almost forgot- get the tres leches- it was amazing! I will definately come back- hope to see live tango next time!

Welcome to a Dining Journey to Uruguay

By Bonarrigo |

Saldivia's is Amazing. The food , service atmosphere is wonderful. I first met Gus 20 years ago and to find him once again was like coming home to a great Dining Experience. I had a Melted Provolone with Tomato with a Clean Crisp Sauvignon Blanc which is one of the Specialty Wines from Uruguay .Then our entree was a Skirt Steak with a Velvety Smooth Tannat. The meat was perfectly prepared and seasoned. Our dessert was a Chocolate Tiramisu and a Flan. Both were perfect. Gus chose a Dessert Tannat that had wonderful Chocolate flavors. The Piano music was a delightful surprise at 8pm. Share an evening with Gus and "You Will be Back."

Perfect steak for lunch

By ramonenrique |

I worked close to this place and I am from South America so I tried this place out. I got a very nice salad with an amazing dressing, then a perfect steak, very flavorful and delicious. It reminded me of steaks from Argentina, very high quality. The atmosphere was also very good, nice restaurant with nice decor. I would recommend this friends to my friends. Furthermore they have the special, so I could not believe the price for such a great steak.

Great Empanadas

By jdatwoo |

Food and service were both very good on Sunday night.i ordered the brochettas medium rare and the meat was perfectly cooked and seasoned. Empanadas were incredible ,perfectly cooked , not greasy and a generous portion. Plate was served with grilled and roasted potatoes . Chimi churri was delicious. Daughter had the cheese ravioles which she rated as 1st class . Only criticism is the wine list could be improved with more Argentine choices ! We would definitely go back again Prices were very reasonable and decor adequate for a nice dinner out .

Yummy!

By AwayWeRoam |

My husband and I ate here last night and every bit of the experience was excellent! It is very small and in a strip mall, but don't let that mislead you. It was a Saturday night and they had a nice gentleman in the back singing. Very nice ambiance! The waitstaff was excellent, more than one stopped to check on us and offered refills, suggestions, etc.... The green olive oil spread is available on each table and is DELICIOUS. Especially when you put it on the crusty outside/soft inside bread that is brought to the table on your arrival, so good! I had the Steak Nicole, yummy skirt steak covered with cheese/peppers/onions, excellent. Finished with the ?Tres leches? For dessert, moist and sweet, superb! Will definitely be back if we are in the area again!

Entraña and empanadas

By Chicamadrid2013 |

The food was cooked with olive oil, it was so tasty like homemade food. The chimichurri was SO delicious. I love that we were able to watch some of the soccer game highlights.

All I can say is "wow"

By ChileanQueen |

I have recently found this little restaurant tucked away on Wesrheimwr and the Beltway in a small shopping center. Everything that I have tried has been served and cooked to perfection. Pechugas a la brazas are succulent and very well seasoned. You will not be disappointed.

Good, not great

By Tom from Texas |

We went to Saldivia's because of the great reviews for moderately priced food. Overall, the restaurant was good, but not the best Houston has to offer. There was brief confusion about the reservation, but not a big deal. Our waiter was pleasant but made a few mistakes. The food was unique and tasty, but some beef was chewy. I generally liked the side dishes but the meat was average. I thought the price was reasonable. I had higher expectations based on TA reviews.

Yummy but Pricey!

By Mimi C |

This restaurant is pricey, but delicious! The entrana is the best thing to order, along with the empanada. You get what you pay for!

Great food!

By Andrea N |

Great experience in this restaurant. Service is very good and food is amazing. I definitely recommend the empanadas and the skirt steak.

Great atmosphere+Great Service+Awesome Food=A restaurant that will keep me coming back

By Mike K |

I've been to Saldivia's multiple times - with large groups and family. Consistently the service and food have been outstanding. The vegetables are always the freshest and cooked to perfection - and the Entrana is the most mouth watering, flavorful skirt steak I have ever had anywhere. Pair that up with a fantastic wine list and great service, and I will keep coming back for a long time. Hats off to all the folks who make the experience great.

Great experiences here.

By Patnufc |

Really nice restaurant in the Westchase area. Its located in the corner of a shopping center. The interior is really nice and inviting. I went for lunch so the atmosphere was quiet. The service was attentive without being intrusive. The food was great.

Lovely beef

By Henrik B |

If you are into lovely beef This uraguayan restaurant is it. Skip the starters and go straight for the tender beef along with a good glass of wine

Hidden Gem

By TAMAN1951 |

Great food, service, prices and convenient to Westchase. Hard to find even when you know where it is but worth the effort Great for a business lunch or a family meal

Best kept secret in Houston

By vanderPlasK |

The restaurant is owned by a family from Montevideo Uruguay. Don’t expect lots of lights or other type of decoration, butthe restaurant is very functional. Same as you can expect in Montevideo. However the food is spectacular. Great meat but don’t forget the desserts as well. All together with a great bottle of red, we had an fantastic night out. Will be back soon.

Great food

By TAMAN1951 |

Absolutely perfectly executed South American fare. The bead I'd fresh and has a great crust. The sauce is great. The neat is cooked to perfection as is the vegetables. Nice fresh salad. Attentive service. Great prices.

Our group was impressed!

By Sid F |

We had a group of 22. We love the new location - the décor was soothing, the service was impeccable, the food choices were more extensive than other reviews indicated. We had a vegetarian in our group who had no problem making her choices. It isn't easy to tend to the desires of a large group requesting individual tickets, but they did so without batting an eyelash. It won't be easy, but be sure to order dessert, too. We had a great time.

What can I say that hasn't been said already?

By JohnGrease |

My wife and I found this place thanks to TripAdvisor, and we weren't disappointed. Everything was spot on - from the empanadas to the parrillada to the tres leches - I wouldn't have changed one item. The service was great - young attentive servers always ready to help, and always with a smile. The wine selection was good, and affordable. And the overall vibe of the restaurant is terrific. My only advice is if you're going on a Saturday evening, make reservations as this place fills up fast.

Super meal

By TAMAN1951 |

Very nice decor. Meat (no less short rib) is heavenly. Tender and full of flavor. Perfectly grilled vegetables finish up th main course. Even the warm rolls are delicious. Great service and very reasonable priced.

Urguayan grill done right

By travelingBV |

For apps, we had the empanadas. Good but I prefer Chilean ones. For the main course, we ordered the Parrilada Completa. Great cuts of meat and the sweetbreads were some of the best I've tasted. No funkyness and nice crunch. Very reasonably priced as well. The staff are attentive and the atmosphere was nice (not crowded). We will be back for more.

South American treasure

By Mary G |

If you are searching for meats and veggies grilled to perfection, look no further. This restaurant is truly wonderful. In addition to excellent traditional South American cuisine, the food presentation is beautiful and the atmosphere is warm and friendly. The Saldivia family's pride in their establishment shows on all levels. A Houston gem!

Excellent Experience

By Nathan C |

Glad this was the first restaurant to head to after landing into Houston. My family came for dinner and even though I made reservations, we were early so we were quickly seated. Since we were 1 of 2 tables occupied, our server Guallo was super attentive. Even the chef himself came to chat with us. Lovely. Food was phenomenon! My mom says it's too rich but yeah it would be without wine. We had the Tata's Sopa de Puch, homemade soup on point no complaint. The 'gambas parrilla' could use more shrimps since they were jumbo shrimps. We should have gotten the 'parrillada completa' but we got the chicken breast ones. The chicken dried up 2 quick, if not eaten quickly but could be dipped into the sauce of the 'caruso'. The skirt steak perfect medium rare! The cappellettis a la Caruso was so good my sis could slurp the sauce. Good Milanesas. Some might consider the potatoes & vegetables sides be cold but I find it 2 be the right temperatures. Overall, so full no room for dessert, definitely would recommend and come back. P.S. House bread and chimmichuri so good & addicting u might get full eating that instead of ur meals.

excellent food Great Staff

By efinn84 |

I just love this restaurant , great selection , great food and ambiance. They have the best specials here.

Great place to eat

By choccycakelover |

Doesn't look much from outside but great place to eat. Great steak and shrimp plus a surprisingly good veggie option. No childrens menu but they split a main dish. Great service and authentic feel.

Good food, great value

By Backtowork |

Cool ambience, Argentinian tango music, friendly staff, good south American wine selection, delicious appetizers, excellent steak, great value.

Excellent food & service

By Sasquatch8303 |

I don't have a single negative thing to say about my experience at Saldivia's. The service was great & the food was amazing. The decor is simple & tasteful, and the ambient music was enjoyable. It was one of the best meals I've ever had. I can't recomment Saldivia's highly enough. I will definitely be back if I come back to Houston.

Business Lunch

By BevoBurn96 |

Had the boneless short ribs. They were fantastic! The grilled vegetables were outstanding as well. Must like garlic to eat here. I will definitely return.

Great south American resturant

By Avishw |

This is a good local place for some good tasting south American food. Their grilled chicken had a lot of taste.(moist and tender) Their tresletches is just too good.

FANTASTIC

By TonkaToy4X4 |

You will not be disappointed. If you clicked on this restaurant to read reviews, you are at least interested and you should act on the impulse!! My wife and I ate here on the hopes it would be a nice get away for an hour or so and were impressed with the entire experience. The server was very attentive and had excellent recommendations. We started with the Bruscheta, which was small but wonderfully flavored. I had the Entrana (medium rare) and my wife had the "Pope's Hat" from the pasta menu and we both loved our meals. Meal prices were in line with a more fine dining restaurant (Mid-teens to mid-twenties) which was very fitting with the atmosphere and presentation. They offer wine and beer only, but a very nice selection of both and are moderately priced. At least three of the staff that night made it by our table to check on us and make sure there was nothing we wanted for. Our drink glasses never got below half and the bread basket was never empty. They were terribly attentive to say the least. We would have loved to have a dessert but the meals were so satisfying that we had to pass. Definitely the next time though. The restroom was the only aspect that leaves a little to be desired according to my wife, but was a very minor aspect of the entire visit and not the main reason for the visit in the least. We look forward to visiting again when we are in the area.

Everything and MORE

By Jessica J |

Found this restaurant on trip advisor and decided to try it. Best decision! Family owned, Gus and his Dad greeted us at the door. The service was perfect. We knew it was going to be a great experience from the moment we walked in! Had a steak, empanadas and the chocolate tres leches cake. A glass of wine too! Everything was delicious and plan to come back as often as we can!! Wonderful experience!

Still a great place for a steak

By captainmcd |

They moved to this location last year, a nice improvement from their previous spot. They now have lots of room, a pianist on Friday evening as well as the guitarist and tango singer on Saturday. But the main attraction is the great meat and the chimmichuri sauce. The prices are reasonable and the Malbec wine is as good as it gets. If you want a taste of South American cuisine at its best, Saldivia's is the place to go.

Still a winner

By captainmcd |

This was our second visit in about six months. As before the place was nearly empty on a Wednesday night, the day after Christmas. It was staffed by only two people for less than a dozen customers when we came. I did not have great expectations. But I was amazed. The Lomo was cooked to perfection, one of the top ten steaks I ever ate. My milenasa a la Napolitana was excellent. I brought home some mollejas and an empanada de espinaca for my wife who was ill. Everything was better than I expected. The only reason the place is not packed is that it is not very visible in the back of a strip shopping center along Westheimer just East of Beltway 8. The location could be a lot more visible. On Saturday night I understand they have a guitarist who plays Tango and South American music after 8. I will return.

Wonderful meat and wine

By ramdam75 |

Extremely good meat grilled to perfection, accompanied by other great typical favorites from Uruguay/Argentina. Very good wine by the glass and homemade chimichurri. If you come on saturday after 8pm, there is live traditional music.

Excellent Food

By Preston S |

Early dinner tonight so it was quiet. It was our waiters 1st night so I will give them a break on the service aspect. The food was really good. The Empanadas are tasty and recommended. Both the Grilled Salmon and the Entrana were excellent and flavorful. I like that the sauces were not overpowering. Due to a few service issues they comp'd the Chocolate Tres Leches and it was amazing. Best I have had! It was nice that they did this without us complaining. I would recommend Saldivia's and will be back.

Gorgeous South American meat in Houston!

By Nefud |

The restaurant offers one of the best South American meat selection in Houston .. I had tasty chorisos as starter, and juicy ensalada de entrana with blu cheese as a main course on a business lunch with colleagues from work. The place is proper with efficient and kind staff. I will definitely go back with my family too ...

Very good!

By Mr. Black |

I was not sure what to expect, I walked in for lunch & there was only one other table occupied in the entire restaurant. The waiter was very nice & explained the est menu items, etc. After the first bite of the best empanada I have ever tasted, I could not understand why this place was not packed (Actually I could, it's definitely a hidden gem, the location is no easily visible from the main traffic area, besides the sign). The rest of the meal was as excellent as the appetizer! I am looking forward to my next visit to this restaurant, next time with friends!

Strip center surprise!

By Kerry R |

Looking to try something different & near my father's house I came across this delightful Argentinian style restaurant. It's tucked into a corner of a strip center of Westheimer near wilcrest nothing fancy no large sign etc. Nice size restaurant exceptional staff and delicious food. Meals were all very favorable not over cooked ok heavily seasoned. Just jiffy tender beef. Pieces were reasonable Asado (boneless short rib $21, 12oz entrana -skirt steak- $30, milanesa-(Chicken cutlet) $17). Even desserts added nice finish to the meal. This is family owned, and several customers were either frequent guest or familiar with the family that we observed. There was cultural live music too ( we were there on a Saturday evening) and a just wonderful find. Certainly a place to return

Totally Awesome Experience!!!

By Teresa S |

My family and friends loved everything about Saldivias! The steak is super juicy and tender! The mixed grill--delicious! You can't go wrong with the Tiramisu for dessert!!! Several nights they have live performances. You can sit where it isn't too loud or right in the midst. Wonderful place for romance, entertaining friends or family. There's even a wine room! Awesomeness!

Like in Uruguay

By Isaac B |

I returned to this restaurant and this time the meat was tender. So, 5 stars. All the other food we ordered was very good.

OMG! Great food!

By floridavolunteer_11 |

Really love everything we had, steak, ensalda capri, veggies, and CHOCOLATE TRES LA LECHE cake!!!! We definitively go again.

Maybe not #1, but it is a nice place.

By captainmcd |

I was attracted to this place because it had a lot of over the top reviews and just rated #1 in Houston. I thought I ought to check it out. Saldivia's is located in the back of a strip shoping center at Westheimer and Beltway 8. It was a bit hard to find, you have to enter from Westheimer and drive to the rear of the first line of buildings. No valet parking necessary. The place is not luxurious, but it is moderately priced. We are from South America, and the menu was authentic South American. There are a number of Latin/South American restaurants in Houston that are more luxurious and far more expensive, but this fills a necessary niche in the selection. The best thing about the place was the food preparation. We had a canelone filled with spinach that was delicious, and I had a Churasco ribeye steak, that was double the size and about half the price of the competition. We shared a flan casero con dulce de leche that was really home made in Argentine style. The owner, from Uruguay, was friendly. There were only about 10 to 20 other diners on a Tuesday night, the service was pleasant, and the wine was inexpensive and of good quality. I was not disappointed.

Good dining experience

By Rxmouton |

We did not know what to expect and we're pleasantly surprised. It is in a very plain strip mall that doesn't look like much but once inside the dinning room is very nice. We took our waiters suggestions on the wine selection and entrees. The food was different and enjoyable.

You'd Swear You Were Dining in Uruguay or Argentina

By Txadmom |

This father/son-owned establishment closely mirrors the excellent dining experiences I had in Argentina. For starters, the lentil soup -- thick with bits of sausage and vegetables -- was among the best I have ever eaten. The flavors were so marvelously melded that it tasted like it had been slow-cooked for many hours. The oh-so-tender skirt steak, topped with an authentic tasting Chimichurri sauce, and the seasonal vegetables were grilled perfectly. The wine list was more than adequate and I enjoyed a generous pour of a palette-pleasing Argentine Malbec. Dinner was topped off by a well-pulled capuchin and a slice of Tres Leches. The Tres Leches was, in fact, the only part of the meal that needed improvement. I could be wrong, but it seemed to have the SEMI-homemade taste of a box cake mix for its base. Wine and food were reasonably priced for the quality compared to many other South American restaurants in Houston, and in fact, I found the quality to far exceed some of the higher priced places in town. An added bonus was that you could carry on a conversation without being drowned out by music or the voices of other diners. I will definitely return and recommend. Be advised that we were told the restaurant would be relocating in December 2014 to an as-yet undetermined address, so call for the address rather than rely on Google as it sometimes takes awhile for the listing to update.

Excellent food uruguayan fashion

By PapagaioF |

The front door doen't say a thing ab I ut the place. It almost seemed closed. Spacious place and very good service, you know the meaning of south american hospitality here. Meet is amazing, cooked the way you want it. Try the wine from Uruguay (Tannat), was so sweet we had 2 bottles for 3. I recommend

Great friends, great food, great fun!!!

By Artabl |

Saldivias is the perfect place to go with a group of friends to kick back relax and unwind. I have been there on several group occasions as well as dinner dining. Love the atmosphere! Your group can have its own space and feel like the whole place is theirs! No feeling of having to hurry up and leave. The service is great and very attentive to your needs. And the food is excellent! They have the best pasta in town as far as I am concerned. Their meat and vegatables platters are so tasty too! Love going there!!!

Excellent food!

By Victor A |

We ate here for the first time tonight. We did not have appetizers but the empanadas looked wonderful. My Entrana (Skirt steak) was perfect at medium rare. My wife had the Milanesa Suprema (chicken breast, ham, cheese) and it was flavorful and quite large. Another member of our party had the Bife Ancho (ribeye) cooked to perfection, but not quite as good as the Entrana. The last member of our party has the Milanesa Nico. Excellent as well. Deserts that we tried were the Chocolate Tres Leches Cake and the Crepes with Dulce de Leche. Yummy. We will return again and again. This is good stuff.

Great Peruvian & Argentinean Food

By Cunha53 |

I haven't had South American food in a while, so I stopped here after reading the reviews in TripAdvisor. It's in the corner of a strip mall, but worth the stop. I started with the Provoleta, which is baked provolone over sliced tomatoes as a starter and then enjoyed the Steak Nicole. Both were great!

A Pleasant Surprise

By Mike60984 |

My date and I tried it out about a week ago on a whim. We had no expectations going in not even sure what we would order. After the meal, we were sold. This is an excellent restaurant hidden in a strip center next to the Beltway on Westheimer. It behind a Dairy Queen. It is very nicely decorated and the food was excellent. We will be back and you should go as soon as possible. Most entree's are in the teens $

Interesting start ... strong finish!

By synseer7 |

LOL! What started out as a somewhat awkward and interesting beginning turned out to be a fairly good experience! When we first arrived we were greeted by whom I presume was "grandpa" ... after a couple funny looks like maybe I should have been next door at the Crawfish place where the line was very long and "urban" ... we were seated. Our server approached and when we asked for a kids cup ... that's when we determined that she did not speak much english ... also at that moment I thought to myself maybe grandpa was on to something and I was at the wrong place haha!! Needless to say things started to normalize when who I will presume was "Dad" showed up to offer some help with the language barrier. I use the familial terms as this is truly a family owned restaurant. Once we came to the understanding that we (server and patron) would just have to take our time with each other...we were ready for our endeavor. They provide bread and an amazing chimichurri sauce and we ordered the Chicken pasta, an empanada, the sausages (chorizo and blood sausage), the bacon wrapped shrimp, bruschetta and the sweetbreads. Everything was delicious with a very home cooked kind of taste and feel which was actually very inviting. In other words not a lot of fancy presentations or flare just good (and a little greasy) food. This was my first time having Uruguayan food, so I will assume this was authentic, considering everything else about the environment and the family being so. There was also live Music. Oh and if you want to drink anything other than wine ... you just have to ask as the menu does not list a beer selection but they do have it. If I find myself in that part of town again... Saldivia will def. Be in consideration.

Parrillada - more than enough for 2

By TravelPowerPlay |

Really excellent chimi-churri, perfectly grilled meats, and good service. We ordered some appetizers, and had altogether too much food with a parrillada on top of that. It was very good.

Decent food, good ambience

By Shaji Johm |

I visited this place with coworker for lunch. Different from my usual tastes but liked the place. The have daily lunch choice. Regular menu is expensive. Lunch was a steal for $10.salad and pork chops. Very nice people.

Best beef quality/price equation in Houston.

By Arnoldo E |

I had the best steak at a price less than half of that of a regular Steak House. Perfectly done to my taste, with the fantastic "chimichurri" that the Saldivias prepare themselves from a secret recipe. It was accompanied by generous servings of vegetables and a salad. They have a good wine list with some interesting Malbecs from Argentina and Uruguayan Tannats. Well worth the ride!

My girlfriend from Argentina

By Winsell M |

My girl is originally from Argentina and Peru . She flew down from Florida for her birthday and this was just perfect . Very romantic and every server spoke even the chef and the owner . I respect then and the food was amazing it took my girl back to her motherland .

I am of Uruguayan descent and a foodie and this is by far the best South American restaurant I've ever been to!

By Cristina R |

Best chimichuri ever Best grilled chicken ever Wonderful grilled meats Best value! Amazing rice and potatoes Uruguayan wines Wonderful atmosphere, wonderful service, and live music I celebrate almost every occasion here for a reason!

Value for money

By Frode S |

Found this restaurant on tripadvisor. Family driven, small cozy restaurant, with easy decorations and no fancy stuff. Excellent service, and steak made exactly according to instructions.

Great authentic food and wine!!

By Chris s |

Having worked and traveled to South America several times, I can tell you, no joke, this is as real as it gets to being there. The steaks are the best there as well as the empanadas and wine. The staff is very friendly and the entire place is very nice. Since I discovered the place back in in July, I have been 5 times. I have taken both family and friends. I will continue to go there and just writing this review makes me want to go for dinner! :)

Consistent Deliciousness!!

By Flynhigh777 |

This restaurant is a must to try. I like to try a place a few times before I write a review. So far this is my Favorite in Houston. I’ve tried both the bacon wrapped shrimp salad and Suprema de Pollo, ( which is a very thin chicken fried chicken topped with ham and cheese ) both were excellent! My husband had the skirt steak and loved the Chimichurri sauce. The atmosphere is warm and inviting and they have a beautiful bar with a ton of wine choices.. Service was great, not rushed like other restaurants. Make sure you bring your appetite the potions are large.

A favorite for lunch

By TAMAN1951 |

This is a go to spot if you are in Westchase. Monday the short ribs are in special (available any day). Perfect execution to order with great marinated flavor. Vegetables are cooked to a nice firm doneness. Bread is heavenly. Light and crisp. Love the chimichurri sauce. Great friendly service. Good business atmosphere. Great prices.

Business lunch

By Andrea |

A beautiful south american restaurant hidden from the streetlights. Once you find it you will be delighted by an intriguing menu and friendly staff. Asado, churrasco, chorizo and costilla de cerdo are a must! This my favorite place for lunch during the week.

Fun Experience!

By Luckylibrarian-The Last Hurrah |

Our foursome had a great time sampling the dishes here. My partner and I enjoyed the beef steak, flat ribs, sweet meats, blood sausage and pork sausage. Out meal came with a side of grilled potatoes, summer squashes and carrot. Excellent choice. We got to try a lot. Even though it is South American, the ambiance was typical of Europe. The center was under construction when we were there. Go for the good food and friendly service.

Expected a bit more

By tonkcatcher |

appetizers were OK, meal OK, desert OK. Nothing to really brag about but it seems it has a great rating on Trip A. Food was in general OK, price a little in the high end.

Business

By capodaca79 |

I was in town for family business and asked to go to the restaurant after reading the reviews. So glad I convinced the office staff to go ! The Chimichurri sauce I put on the warm, bread roll was tasty and delicious. So good ; that I added it to my lunch chicken Breast . The grilled vegetables were delicious , fresh and seasoned well! The others had pork chop and sauce plate. Liked . And the daily lunch special was liked. Diego, the kind staff sever; was prompt with serving and polite. I will go back again and so will my Houston friends.

Houstons best secret !

By Zorroargentino |

Been from Argentina , in my first visit to Houston (20 years ago), I was searching the yellow pages for a good steak house and I found this incredible place. Saldivias has the best souhtamerican flavor in the USA ... The grill meats ( parrilla) are so. Good and the pastas to die for ! I keep going back every time I visit the city of Houston . Thank you ! To Gus, Cristina and Cacho for making me feel like Im home .

Very nice Westchase dining

By JC.A |

Not a spectacular location, but don't let the outside looks fool you as you will experience a very nice meal at Saldivia's. Very friendly service. All of our meals were prepared just as we requested and the quality was great. This included our salads, steak and chicken meals. We were pleasantly surprised and will definitely return when we're in the area again.

great food at reasonable prices!

By Kristy S |

Just a little strange that we arrived at 8:00 PM on a Thursday evening and we were the only people in the place. The waiter explained that since school had just started back, business was slow. The place is a little stark and there is not much ambience. That is the only thing that I can ding them on. The food was really good. We tried the beef empandas that were delicious! I had a flank steak that was marinated in chimmichuri sauce and it was outstanding. It rivaled Churrasco's. One in our party had the kabobs - delish. We will return.

Great Family and Great Food!

By Carla H |

We had a special reunion at Saldivia's and Christina, Gus, and Cacho made us feel like we were in "their home" and all the families attending had a wonderful and memorable time! The Saldivia's have been serving excellent food in Houston for decades, go there for a quiet dinner or have a blast during soccer nights!

Good food and attentive service

By grenny1968 |

The food is very good at Saldivias. The menu is a very typical South American menu. Beef and meat heavy. We had steaks, sausage sampler and a wonderfully garlicky Caesar salad. The steaks are very good and well cooked. The chimichurri sauce is really good with the meats and especially with the blood sausage. We had a service snafu that was gracefully handled and were comped a chocolate tres leches dessert. This is one of the best cake desserts in the city. The vanilla/original tres leches at Churrascos is still the standard...but this was really good. Very nice folks. Good Uruguayan wine. High value considering the food quality.

If you can't fly to Buenos Aires this weekend - then come to Saldivia's!

By WGBerry |

An amazing menu of all of my Argentine favourites - from the empanadas, the parrilladas, the vacio, and more! Finishing off the evening with tiramisu or flan with a great serving of dulce de leche. The atmosphere is excellent and is well accompanied on the weekends with live tango music and excellent bottles of wine. This restaurant will not disappoint. One of my very favourites of Houston!

A restaurant with a South American soul at Houston!

By cesarximenes |

Saldivia's is a simple restaurant with a great food and a cozy environment. When I ate there the place was almost closing, but they receive me very well and I could eat the delicious Steak Nicole. Also I had the opportunity to chat with the restaurant owner and the singer. Yes, Bernardo, he is 86 and keeps singing every single Saturday. I really recommend the restaurant to everyone.

Food and service good

By RSnOK |

I like to try different places when I am traveling and this was the pick for dinner. Don't let the outside steer you away. It is located in a strip mall. Inside is very inviting and a warm atmosphere. The wine was good and the pour generous. You could tell there were several regulars. I had a skirt steak that was good but I wish I had tried some of the other things I saw others eating. If you want to try something different good place to go.

Tasty steak

By diveninja21 |

Had a meal here with my wife while visiting Houston. Good choice of dishes and an ok list of wines on offer. Had a steak which was tender, tasted great and was cooked just how I like it. The pasta dish my wife had was plentiful and also very tasty. Service was excellent. Recommend a visit if staying in the area.

Pleasantly Surprised!

By Tarponblock |

My wife and I were in Houston for our anniversary. My wife was hesitant before I took her to Saldivia's but not any more. Her dish was the Milanese Capri and she loved it. I had the grilled short rib and it was awesome. The dessert Tres Leches was to die for. The owner, Gus, even came out to give me a tip on how to cook the short rib at home...LOVE SALDIVIA'S!

The Best Place to Eat in Houston

By Joy M |

Anytime I visit Houston I never miss the opportunity to dine at Saldivia's South American Grill. It is by far the best South American food I have ever had. Not only is the food great - their selection of wines is outstanding. The steaks are mouth watering and cooked to perfection as is everything on the menu. This family owned business makes every visit feel like you're part of their family. I can't wait to get back to Houston to visit Saldivia's.

Great steak, owner is very friendly

By Tee610 |

I visited based on the other Tripadvisor reviews, and was not disappointed! I ordered the empaña, which was their signature steak. It was cooked perfectly; very tender and had a ton of flavor. I really enjoyed it. It came with roasted squash, carrots, potatoes, and yellow rice. They also put bread out on the table and there was a delicious spicy/garlicky oil at the table to spread on the bread. For dessert, I had the tres leches cake, which was outstanding. Throughout the meal, the owner checked in a few times, and was a very nice guy. Other customers walked in and they seemed genuinely happy to see him - I assume regulars. He greeted them warmly, as well. All great signs. This place is definitely worth going to. Enjoy!

BEEF AND SERVICE

By hughbunton |

As I have traveled many places in the world, I went with the reviews on trip advisor as I have done before and made an excellent choice. The restaurant is misleading from the outside but the steaks/wine and prices are great. They caught me off guard.

Great value and try the lunch specials

By nctraveler123 |

Thank you TripAdvisors for again finding and reviewing another jewel in Houston. Went for lunch and I had the roast half chicken and grilled vegetables special for 9.95. The chicken was so moist and delicious, but with the perfectly grilled veggies, I could not finish the chicken. I brought the left over chicken home. The next day it was still very flavorful. Try Saldiva's!

So close to home

By Raquel M |

Great food. We were a table of about 24 people. The service was a bit slow, but I'll come back to try other dishes. The brochettas were delicious.

Wowwww!

Great food & wine. Relaxed and casual setting. Owner operated; great service. They care about you as their customer. What else - oh yeah, very reasonable price. Will come back as often as I can.

This family locally owned Uruguayan place is wonderful, it has great ambiance, flavorful wine selection and delicious menu. It was hard to chose what I wanted. Must try the empanadas.

Fantastic!!

By j006 |

I had Saldivias cater my rehersal dinner and I was not disappointed. He was very thorough from start to finish which made the dinner into a complete success. He delivered on everything from the service, preparation and food. Fantastic food and service, he delivered as promised.

Very nice people, good food

By TatjanaF-D |

Not being aware of the recent move to a new location, we decided to walk from our Courtyard hotel to the restaurant, which we chose based on the recent reviews. After a while we realized that we weren't getting anywhere and we called the restaurant. To our great surprise, the owner offered to pick us up from the hotel (he also took us back). Wow!!! That is not something I've come across on my visits to the USA, and deserves a great compliment! The food in this place is - I can't find another word for it - REAL. I am not a South American but I can imagine that this is how your mother and grandmother (and maybe Dad for the meat?) cooks for you. Comfort food. We had the entrana, recommended by both the owner and the waiter. An amazingly tasty piece of grilled meat with just the right bite. Our tres leche chocolate cake: same experience. Great, home-cooked food. Thank you for everything!

Spectacular!

By Angie |

In Houston for business. Found this place on Trip Advisor. Locals never heard of it but they are going back soon! Knowledgeable friendly waitstaff! Skirt steak was amazing, bursting with flavors and almost melted in your mouth!

Do not let the location deter you

By TAMAN1951 |

The location, buried in a dying strip mall is a bit of a turn off and makes this place hard to find but the good news is that they are moving in a couple of months to a much better location nearby. The warm bread and chimi churri sauce is great and loaded with flavor. The empanadas are very good as a started but the main courses are all elcellent. I especially like the Asado (beef short ribs (bonless) that are cooked to perfection and actually very lean but chocked full of flavor. The grilled vegetables are cooked perfectly retaining the flavor of the raw vegetable yet soften just a bit to make for easy eating. Deserts are nice as well if you can manage to save room for them. Service is warm, attentive and friendly. prices are very reasonable. I hope they can retain all of the good things about this place when the y move but fear more folks will find it and the crowds will get bigger and change the ambiance.

Great Find off Sam Houston Pkwy (West Chase)--Wonderful Food & Service!

By 404Foodie |

My friends were traveling to visit Houston for the day and got hungry right after lunch time. So I searched the Internet for great spots in the area coming down Sam Houston Parkway, Saldivia's South American Grill was a recommended choice. We entered the restaurant and were quickly seated. We enjoyed watching futbol on the large screen monitor. For starters, the freshly-baked bread with the Chimmi Churri sauce was banging! Never had chimmi churri sauce before--OMG, delicious! Additionally, I had the Oysters Saldivia...another hit! Those oysters were seasoned to perfection and piping hot when brought to the table. For entrée, I chose the Pechuga a las Brazas (Chicken, grilled veggies and roasted potatoes). The chicken was tender paired with perfectly grilled veggies and the potatoes). Seemed to come right from someone home kitchen. I was too full to drive after eating here. I felt when leaving, such a great atmosphere, staff and entertainment. Carlos was our waiter and quite attentive, bringing bread and drink refills as appropriate. He helped make suggestions on menu items based on his favorites. One of the flavored teas he recommended was sooooo good, I've been trying to find it everywhere. Thank you Carlos for introducing me to Chimmi Churri sauce--I think i'm addicted! LOL Saldivia's definitely goes to the top of my list in Houston of great food and service with inexpensive rates for cook-to-order menu items that are quite wholesome and fulfilling.

Go for the food, return for the service

By Bob S |

So I found myself in Houston for business and having a quiet night off for a change, located Saldivia's right around the corner from my hotel. I like South American food and wine, especially the wine, so I thought I would have a nice quiet dinner to myself. Looking over the wine list I saw a great selection of wines from Argentina and Chili as well as a grape from Uruguay, "Tannat" that I had never heard of. I questioned Gus about this wine and he explained that it is similar to a Spanish or Italian wine and that it is more of an old world style rather than the new world style you expect to see from South America. I ordered a bottle of Tannat and a spinach and cheese empanada for starters. My main dish was the Asado with grilled vegetables. I enjoyed a nice dinner with a great new bottle of wine and it was all excellent. The steak and grilled veggies were done perfectly and well seasoned. The wine was a nice complement to the dinner and left me with a new found treasure. This is a wonderful and personable place. They truly care about their customers and believe that the meal should be an experience for all the senses. Don't miss Salvidia's if you have the chance.

Great food, great service and great prices.

By SBF2 |

Many malbecs to choose from was a hint that we would enjoy the restaurant. The staff is friendly and efficient. We went on a Friday and there was live entertainment. nice bruschetta and empanadas. Nice skirt steaks and lamb chops. great portions and great prices.

Authentic family recipes, like you are eating in the Saldivia's own home.

By Lucy P |

I picked this restaurant for my birthday dinner because I knew it would be a hit with my family. I have been on several occasions but my other guests had not. They can accomodate large parties and also small children with ease. Our food was all cooked to perfection. I typically get the beef skewers and they came out just right. There were no complaints from anyone. The chimmichurri is hand ground and you can taste each herb individually. You will always get a visit from one of the owners who are all family. To top off the evening we shared a piece of tres leches which in my opinion is the best in town. It was a great way to celebrate my birthday.
