Great food, Long wait

By Jason S |

Join the list and go run your errands. The wait time can easily be over an hour. I’ve been coming here since it was operating under the old name. The food is awesome, everything I’ve tried here is great. I think the service is good, despite the other reviews. You generally get your food in under 10 minutes. The staff is pretty friendly as well.

One of best Mexican food in the Valley

By Jonathan G |

I love this place! There's almost always a little wait but well worth it. My wife and I usually sit at the bar where we don't have to wait. They have the best tortillas that are hand made. A great salsa bar too. My favorite dish is the Carnitas Fajitas... I can never even finish them. Great drink prices too.

Salsa and beer...pass the chips please!

By Archeryl |

"If all restaurants were like this the world would be a better place!" This was a quote I overheard while eating here. When we arrived there was a 40 minute wait, there were just two of us so we sat at the bar which is open seating. We were seated immediately and within minutes had a frozen house Margarita $6.99 and an ice cold Modeli draft along with chips and bean dip in front if us. There is a salsa bar that features at least 8 different salsas. The chips, bean dip, and salsa are all complimentary! Then on to the meal a wonderful chicken taco meal with rice and beans for $4.99! No that's not a kids menu price that is the fault price! The two taco meal is $6.99. The service today was fast, friendly and even funny. I give the service 3 stars only because my experience here in the past is all over the map from horrible to wonderful. It's always crowded, it's advised to try and street park as the parking lot can be a nightmare! If you have a birthday in your party the staff comes to your table with drums and instruments to celebrate! My son told me not to write this review because the place is already busy enough but you need to know, Salsa and Beer is the place to go!

Simply Excellent

Salsa Salsa and great food

By JLMCELROY |

While the location may have much to desire. The food and atmosphere is truly fantastic, Authentic Mexican food with great salsa. The Carnitas is great in many different dishes. The Bar area is a little dark if you want to eat there but it works. Great service and strong margaritas top it off. It is our new hangout.

authentic Mexican food in LA

By Jessica Cofield |

One of the best authentic Mexican places to go to in LA! It is always busy thought so plan to either call and make a reservation or be ready to wait a little, they are usually very quick though. The best food and margaritas 100%!!!!

Best Mexican Food I Have Ever Eaten, including my Mom's burritos

By andia |

If you're in the area and like/love Mexican food, this is a first priority. I just visited L.A. for the first time and my daughter took us here on our last night. I wished we had went the first night, I would have eaten here a few more times, it's that delicious. I can't wait to visit L.A. again just to come here and eat. They serve bean dip instead of salsa when seated and it is to die for. Everyone in our family loved their food choice and that doesn't happen too often for us.

Great Food, Drinks and Friendly Service

By satellitesue1 |

We met family and friends here after a long flight and then drive from LAX, we were tired and hungry and Salsa and Beer did not disappoint. Even though the place was already packed by 6:00 PM we were served pitchers of Margaritas and Beer at the bar and within 30 minutes our table was ready. The staff was great and offered suggestions on what dishes they'd recommend. We tried a variety of food, most of us went with the server's favorites...... everything was delicious! Needless to say we ate, drank and most certainly were merry!

What A Treat

By LenaHollywoodMuse |

What a treat – super busy, but we ate at the bar, the waitstaff is fantastic, the food superior, I had a frozen lime margarita – that was excellent. I got the two hardshell steak tacos with Caesar salad on the side, and my daughter got Carnitas sizzling fajitas – everything was absolutely delicious. And, they serve really good corn chips with salsa and guacamole as soon as you sit down.

Fantastic Mexican Food in the heart of the San Fernando Valley (North Hollywood)!

By Honeybunny96 |

A new friend referred me to this place and she was raving about it. So we decided to check it out last weekend. To our surprise there was a huge line outside the door and although parking is available on the premises it was completely full. We decided to drive all the way to the Lake Balboa location and the line was worse with little to no parking. So today being a week day we decided it might be a good time to go since it isn't a weekend. Sure enough we arrived at 11am and parking was a breeze. This place has a huge parking lot too. Once we got in we were sat immediately, orders taken quickly. Great service and the food was just amazing. We had the molcajete steak and carnitas this dishes were unbelievable huge and delicious. The complimentary chips and salsa was also very tasty. Can't say enough good things about this place. If you love to eat good tasty food then go to this place. I highly recommend it. Don't worry about the lines they go really fast.

The Best Mexican Food in Town!

By Fern C |

I know that this is a bold statement for folks in So Cal, but this place is one of the best Mexican Restaurants I've ever been to. I have been a frequent customer of this location for several years and I've never been disappointed with the food or service. Everything they make is good. The only disappoint I have is that they stopped selling their yummy fish tacos! In my opinion, they were the best! Everything else is delicious, so I quickly forgave them!

Literally the BEST SALSA of your life!!!

By Becca |

Salsa and beer is a must!! Its my favorite place to go after a night of drinking or to just chill with friends. they have a salsa bar that is unlimited with the best salsa's you will ever have. they have around 7 different kinds. ALso the bean dip they give u is beyond flavorful! I cant even control myself here! Its just way to good!!! I could sit for hours and eat the orange salsa and the bean dip! ANDDDD the best part about it is that its ridiculously CHEAP! i dont know how! because the quality is a 10 and the value is the best you will ever get. u will be addicted.! Drinks are a 10 also!

Margaritas? Yes, please!

By Susan S |

Make this your first stop when flying into Bob Hope Airport! Get on the list and download the NOWAIT app and get yourself in the virtual line because there is always a wait. You can eat in the bar if there are seats available. Parking is limited and there is a wait for that too BUT you will not be disappointed! Portions are generous, flavor is amazing, and the margaritas PERFECTO!

Best Mexican Food in LA.

By emurphy190 |

I have enjoyed the above Resturant many times over the years. When they have a waiting list at 3.30pm. on a Mon. you know they got to be doing something right. I Had a combination plate with ck.enchiladas and hard shell taco. rice and beans. Enough food to feed 2 ppl. Margaritas fantastic. Like I said they know what their doing. Parking dreadful, who cares, ya will need a walk after being there anyway. Noisy, busy, and great.

The best mexican food in LA, easy

By Rebecca J |

Great quality, quantity, and vegetarian options, this place is affordable and amazingly delicious. The staff is very attentive and friendly, overall a 5 star for sure, BUT crazzzzzy long wait times, always. Went on a Friday evening and couldn't get in, 2 hour wait, then again a Friday at 3 pm and managed to get in. You can get in with a very small party and if you sit at the bar, which is just a fine place to sit. Parking is also insane at location.

The real flavor of Mexico

By Ebony G |

I was starving and yelped many nearby eateries which in comparison this place had great reviews along with others near my hotel. My husband was tired and felt it was too far so I begged him and so off we went. Wow!! Fast, friendly s revive. Best salsa ever tasted. The food is authentic true Mexican food and under priced. This is our new spot. Fatima took very good care of us.

Amazing

By Ally B |

If I could give this place a billion stars !!! Umm the salsa bar is killer , they have different levels of spice so we of course wanted the spiciest , it’ll be setup from Least spicy to most . I recommend the fajitas and the margaritas are sooooo good , we got the margaritas without triple Sec and they were perfect . The service was exceptional as well . This is our favorite place for Mexican food in the valley . Check it out even if you aren’t close! This place is worth the drive . And the decor and the booths were so cute and loved the clay mugs.

Great Mexican food with huge portions!

By Mystica33 |

Delicious Mexican food at great prices! You can feed two people with the potions they give you. From the bean dip they give you at first to the entrees and desserts, everything is delicious!

Not your run of the mill Mexican Restaurant

By levisgaulin |

Some friends took us here when we asked them if there were any "dive" authentic Mexican restaurants. Not being from LA but loving authentic Mexican food, we still had not found a place we liked. They took us to Salsa and Beer on a a Friday night and it was well worth the 1/2 hour wait. The sauces and salsas are not the typical ones you get in most American style Mexican restaurants. Their ranch style chicken alone keeps me coming back. Atmosphere isn't great but the food is excellent for the price!

What goes together, Well "Salsa & Beer"

By Faye K |

Salsa and Beer, 2 of lifes must have food items in anyone's life! Expect to wait for a table here, it is a daily go to place for friends and family. They offer friendly service, an amazing menu to choose from, a salsa bar to scoop as much as you want, and the plates of food are most shareable for $11.99, incredible prices and lot's of it! I loved the creamy spicy chicken, the Pastor tacos, and fajita's, always a must! They serve you with fresh chips and a bean based salsa right away, the obly problem is you can't stop eating that so you are nearly full when the food arrives!! Great place for family, friends, couples, or solo... Just make it a weekly visit!!

It's truly Mexican and marvelous

By foodhoundBurbank_Ca |

Salsa and Beer sounds like an American sports bar. And, I'm told that it is on Sundays. But, it really is an authentic Mexican restaurant where salsa is king...specifically molcajete salsa. Man,this sauce truly defines the meaning of taste and fire. I've had it with adovada on a sizzling platter and an adovada burrito, both amazing. Tried other things in past visits, including a very good chile relleno. Family and friends also found the food here outstanding. One companion evan couldn't get enough of the spicy bean dip. Don't let the rundown neighborhood, the bad parking and the oftentimes long wait discourage you. For an L.A. born Mexican-American, this place is on my very short list of decent Mexican food in the San Fernando Valley.

Mexican Food at its Best

By 857edwardo |

If your in Los Angeles and hungry for good Mexican food head for the Salsa and Beer in the North Hollywood district. There is usually a bit of a edit to get seated but the exit is certainly worth it. The folks are friendly and the food is top notch. They have a salsa bar that provides a great variety of salsas. There is no doubt you’ll find one that fits your taste. The service is great and the atmosphere is perfect evening pleasure. You won’t be sorry you went.

Authentic!!!

By Jacqueline V |

Totally authentic Mexican food that not only is amazing, it’s so affordable. If it’s your first time, order from house specialties. Any of the carna Assad dishes are fabulous. House made chips and salsa bar to die for. Oh, and you’ll only need one of the house margaritas! Which don’t glow in the dark and aren’t full of artificial green ingredients.

The Best Mexican Food Around!!

By rdurancarlson |

This place is AMAZING! I’ve eaten at more Mexican restaurants than I can count and this place outshines them all. The bean dip is to die for and they have a ton of different salsas at their salsa bar to try. The food looks just like the pictures on the menu and tastes even better than it looks. We had the steak fajitas, steak molcajete, carnitas molcajete, & tortilla soup. So much food - I don’t know how they keep their prices so low ($13.99 for each of our entrees!). We also ordered a pitcher of strawberry margaritas - they were so good. Be prepared to be taking home some food for later, especially if you order an appetizer. Last time we ordered a nacho appetizer and it was as big as an entree - it fed 3 of us! The service is amazing!! The food comes out fast, these servers have it down pat - it’s very much a team effort. Huge accolades to them. As busy as this place is, you never feel rushed to get out the door. Now for the downside - there’s always a price to pay for perfection...although this is pretty insignificant compared to the reward so consider this a tip. There’s almost always a huge line and parking is insane. There’s an easy way to solve it THIS IS A BIG TIMESAVER - Drop someone from your party off to go inside the restaurant and put your name down for a table. They will take your number down and you’ll get a text that tells you when your table is ready and also tells you how many people are in front of you. We had an hour and a half wait and went to a game store to kill some time. For parking don’t bother looking for a spot on the street - It’s one hour parking and while I’m not sure how strict they enforce it, getting your car towed in LA is no fun (trust me). There’s usually a line to get in the parking lot so just wait in line to get a spot...they have parking attendants keeping it orderly. That will kill some of your waiting for a table time. Before you know it you’re at your table!

Good Mexican??? Uhhh... NO!

By TrvlnRoundUS |

I am shocked by the reviews for this place... this is not REAL Mexican food... having lived in a Texas border town for over 30 years, eating on both sides of the border, I think I have a pretty good idea of what GOOD Mexican food is and this is not it. The food was horrible and it was cold... no taste... rice was bland... beans were greasy.... the salsas were nothing special and were watered down. Soft tacos had hard tortillas and the meat tasted like it was cooked early in the morning - it was dry and chewy... chicken quesadilla was unnecessarily oily and we couldn't find the chicken - it was chopped up in miniscule pieces - carnitas were smothered in sauce and had no taste. We waited 45 minutes for a table on a Monday night and were shocked by the fact that there were tons of empty tables but no one to wait on them. There is no real place to wait. Parking is horrendous. Go somewhere else. Maybe the locals think it's "real Mexican" but if you've actually ever eaten Mexican food you'll be greatly disappointed.... you'll be better off at Taco Bell.

Excellent!!

By 4CaliGals |

Had dinner & drinks here the other evening and it was beyond delicious! The atmosphere was fun and people were friendly. Top that off with a supremely delicious dinner & drinks - what more could you ask for! We had the chicken fajitas and they were some of the best I've tried. Good serving size & excellent service. We ate at the bar since it was an hour and half wait on a Wednesday evening. Definitely explains the long wait since it is a great place. Full menu at bar. Highly recommend!

Holy Moly

By Jennifer D |

Wow what a place!! We were visiting family and they chose this place as a favorite of theirs!! And I found out why, the atmosphere is wonderful, food is awesome, staff wonderful!! Parking... They need a bigger parking lot. Would love for them to open a restaurant in Michigan I would be in line!

Salsa and Beer...horrible manager, needs updated training.

The food and line service people are very good; however, I had a small issue where my kids in the past had received complimentary drinks when they ordered from the regular menu. On Friday, June 28 around 8 pm., I informed the waitress about the kids drinks. The waitress contacted the manager, I believe his name is Alfonso, and soon after Alfonso came to my table with a raised voice, a very bad, confrontational and demeaning attitude. He told me that there are no free drinks for kids and that if kids don't order from the kids menu I had to pay for the drinks we had ordered. I understand his point; what was annoying was the way he confronted me to explain the situation. Managers have to deal with customers issues in a more approachable, good-faith, friendly manner. That was not the case with this manager. He even picked up the drink from the table and hurriedly placed it back. Good luck and be aware of this manager's attitude if you reader decide to go there. I'm done with this place.

Mexican Greatness!!

By Troy L |

If you are in the LA Valley and looking for a great Mexican restaurant this is the place. Amazing food and great staff although they could be a lot more attentive! The place is extremely authentic and usually packed so add in wait time.

Great Food

Great selection of Mexican food. Unique in flavour. Fajita is a must. Big portions. Affordable prices .

Fun atmosphere - delicious Mexican food!

By canyonmom |

Came here on a recommendation. This place is busy, busy, busy! We arrived at 6.45pm on a Thursday and waited 15 minutes for a table. I imagine the wait could be a lot longer later in the evening, on weekends or public holidays as this place is extremely popular. One trick is to have someone from your party go in and put the group name on the waitlist while you park the car. They give you a pager so you'll know when your table is ready. It's a super fun restaurant, lots of Mexican families eating here which is a sign the food is good. Our meals were super tasty - the sauces were delicious. Portion sizes very generous and meals came with free tortilla chips and spicy cheese dip. Margaritas were yummy. This place is great value for money and is my new go-to for Mexican food in the Valley. There were lots of birthdays happening and the wait staff come out with instruments and sing a song. It's just a really fun atmosphere here. The area isn't the best, so I advise waiting in line for a park. There were six cars ahead of us and it took roughly 10-15 minutes. If you prefer, you can park 4-6 short blocks away and walk (only takes 10 minutes).

Food Coma

By James L |

Salsa and Beer is everything you’d want in a Mexican restaurant. Delicious food, large portions, great prices, excellent salsa and complimentary bean dip! Who doesn’t like bean dip! Service is always prompt and friendly but be advised, this place gets BUSY. And why not, it’s good. It opens for lunch at 11:00am. I came at 10:55 to avoid the noon rush and by the time the doors opened there were 20 people waiting! Not to worry, it’s a large space with ample staff to keep it all moving. Try the Avocado salsa!

EXCELLENT home made Mexican food

By Perry L |

Get on a bus, the train, a car or whatever and, if you like great Mexican food, that is prepared on the spot, great prices and excellent margaritas, GO HERE. This is about the best Mexican food I've ever eaten, and I've eaten lots. To start with, the bean dip that goes with the chips at the bar is amazing. I'm not a bean dip fan, but the dip here was excellent. I had enchiladas with home made sauce and tortillas, YUM. My wife had chicken and loved it. Most house margaritas are just fair, and mostly syrup. Not these. This place was recommended to us by a waiter in another restaurant, mostly because of the food and the margaritas. The recommendation was not wasted. This place is that good. I've already recommended the place to people I know in LA and would to anyone. The food is amazing, the prices are excellent and the staff is friendly. What more could you ask for?

Great food with huge portions

By Bryan C |

My family and I stopped here twice for dinner while we were on vacation in Santa Monica. We tried the tacos (chicken and shrimp), enchiladas (chicken and cheese) w rice and beans. All of the platters were delicious and the portions were huge and reasonably priced. We had to wait for parking and to be seated but it was well worth the wait as this was our favorite spot for dinner.

Worth the wait! Delicious!!

By Tisha77 |

We found this gem with our trustful Trip Advisor reviews. We went on a Sunday evening around 5 and had an hour and fifteen minute wait. They text you when your table is ready which is convenient. It ended up being a 45 minute wait. My husband and I both had the spicy carne Asada fajitas (not actual name sorry) which were SO GOOD!!! the kids played are only $6 and co weigh a drink too. Good food for them too! Chips and salsa bar were awesome. I can't wait to be in the area again...hitting this place up again!!!!!

Not bad

By dpakman91 |

Salsa & Beer is a great vibe and community spot, but the food itself is just "okay." I wouldn't wait 90 minutes or 2 hours as many people do given the quality of the food, but if there's not a long wait, it's perfectly reasonable standard American Mexican food.

Mexican Food

By Gabriel A |

The food is very good, authentic and large portion at reasonable prices. The service has always been excellent! My only complaints are; The parking, which is way too small for the crowds that patronize the place, the long waiting time during the lunch and dinner hours, the lack of an adequate AC, which makes it a little too humid when packed with patrons, and the small plastic containers for the open salsa bar!

One of the best places to eat in LA

By Eliška S |

Their food is absolutely amazing and their Henchata (Henessy + Horchata) is the most genius thing! Haha love it!

Always Packed!

By Jackie T |

I've been to Salsa and Beer a couple of times and what keeps me coming back is the atmosphere and cheap great Mexican food. The downside to this place is it's always packed! Luckily I'm never with a big party but even trying to find a seat at the bar is nearly impossible. Staff is friendly, bathrooms are clean, they have TVs so you can watch the game too. I'll keep coming back.

Was told it was not to be missed ... you have to stand in line to get in. Does anyone know what good food tastes like??

By FormerChicagoGal |

I think we misunderstood - I think she was trying to say "I don't miss it a bit." A major disappointment. This restaurant is in an industrial commercial district which is fine. It's quite large and the interior other than being very loud is clean and attractive. So if all you want is clean stay. But if your mouth is watering for the best Mexican ever leave now. You will not find it here. We got carne adovada which we would not have recognized if we had not been told what it was. No kidding. All we could taste was the lemon - or was it lime??? There wasn't even a hint of the red chili that it should have been marinating it. We expected (and we talked to the waiter before we ordered) chunks of pork - we got a pork cutlet paper thin and about as tasty with NO sauce and less flavor. The refries looked anemic and the rice was dried out perhaps from being overcooked - perhaps from being on someone else's plate before? Who knows. The fajitas were as wonderful - we ordered a chicken/beef combo - the meats were so overcooked you could not bite into them and drier than dust. Yum. To give credit where credit is due however there were ample veggies - and they were as greasy as the meat was dry. The tortillas and pico de gallo however were excellent so if that's what you want for dinner, this is the place.

Awesome food and down-home ambiance in N. Hollywood

By PacCoastTravel |

Dark, welcoming family style Mexican restaurant with a corny name. Portions are huge, flavorful and filling. Take a cab or a rideshare to avoid dealing with the parking, which is famously difficult. This place is very popular and gets packed. If you're alone or a small party, grab seats in the lounge and order from the full menu there. It's not a sports bar but there are widescreen TVs in the bar area.

Awesome!!

By Tleeg |

How does this place only have 3 reviews as of now? i use YELP.COM all the time and this restaurant has over 250 reviews on there. Anyway....My family and I has been coming to this restaurant since it opened in this location approx. a year or so ago. We come here at least 3 times a month. The food is awesome and the prices are amazing. The only problem is: 1) PARKING - It is a total and complete nightmare. Its a small parking lot and the lines that divide the cars are all out of whack, the enter and exit arrows painted on the concrete are every which way...it makes NO sense whatsoever. 2) NEIGHBORHOOD - It isn't the greatest but who cares? 3) SERVICE - This place is legendary for so-so service. Its usually decent but alot of the times its iffy and theres been a couple times where its downright horrible. Theres been times i will get my food and *NO* eating utilsiles. I will stare at my food for like 5 minutes with nothing to eat it with...it has been that bad before. But like i said the food is great and the prices are awesome.

Top Of My List

By Cruiser73 |

Keeping it short.... if you are in North Hollywood, hungry and not in a major rush... don't pass this place by. Some of the best, if not the best, Mexican food and terrific Margaritas in the area and reasonably priced!

Very Authentic, Worth the Potential Wait!

By 1966Sunshine |

I don't eat Mexican cuisine often; no longer part of my diet. However, it is a favorite of my friends so I went with them. The restaurant is quaint and very busy. Great wait staff and best Mexican food I can recall experiencing. Numerous choices of food and drinks. Large servings! A buffet of salsa choices, freshly prepared. I ordered the new 3 Taco dish with chicken, steak and carnitas. Fresh, well-seasoned, full of wonder flavors, delicious!

Looks are deceiving - come in for good food

By Dan G |

From the outside, this restaurant looks like a place you may want to keep driving by. Once inside, you will be amazed at how big and nice this Mexican Restaurant is. My colleagues and I had Carnitas, Shrimp Enchiladas, Beef and Chicken Tacos and Guacamole. The entrees were excellent! We have been back many times because the food it that good. In my opinion, I would not order the Guacamole, I have eaten much better. The prices are excellent and the service is fast. At lunch time, you may have to wait 20 - 30 minutes because they are that busy. Salsa and Beer is a diamond in the rough, well worth a visit.

Sooooo worth the wait!!

By smarcelus |

If you make it past the parking situation and the wait, a world of deliciousness awaits you. Great service, EXCELLENT food and even better pricing. 7 mixed drinks, 4 entrees came to about $102.00. Your are immediately served warm bean sauce & chips, and a free salsa bar. The staff is very sweet and accomodating. The food is flavorful and fresh. Definately a must !!!!

great mexican food

By Wiltingpoppy |

Bad parking. It is worth it though. the spicy bean dip instead of salsa with your chips is amazing! The rice tastes home made and every dish we tried was yummy!

Worth the wait

By BKC2003 |

A friend told me that this was a great Mexican restaurant in North Hollywood. He also indicated that parking is limited and we would probably have to wait an hour to be seated. He was correct on all accounts. We arrived at 4:50 pm and there were people outside waiting for a table. I jumped out of the car to go put our name on a waiting list while my friend parked the car. I was told by the receptionist it would be about an hour wait. I asked if my friend and I could sit at the bar. She said, "Yes." However, even finding seats at one of the two bars was a task. I probably waited 10 minutes before I located seats for us. There were others who were walking around like I was trying to also score seats. The bean dip salsa was excellent. Our entrees were on the large size. I could see how people would want to share one entree for two persons. The tampiquena carne asada as well as the three tacos were both great choices. My only complaint is that there is not a Salsa and Beer restaurant near me.

Awesome Mexican, average service

By cshs40 |

Went here with my family on a sunday, there was a 90 min wait....no problem we said we will wait. After 45 mins I checked and they said still a 90 min wait..cmon man! Luckily 5 spots opened at the bar and we jumped on it. Even there service really wasn't that good, the staff seemed to just have to be there. Other then that tho this food is the bomb, im not too concerned with the service when the food was that good. Best Mexican i had in a long time and I was visiting from out of state...worth 90 mins? No but was damn good!

Authentic

By ChristiHamilton |

My little nephew loves this restaurant so when I visited for his birthday he insisted on having lunch at Salsa and Beer. This place is crazy busy, so don't get scared off if there is a line waiting to get into the parking lot. They have a parking attendant, and the restaurant is big enough that tables turn over pretty quickly. It's a noisy, energetic, fun place to eat. The food is authentic and yummy and the skinny margarita is one of the best I've had.

Yummy but crowded

By EmBentley |

My husband and I love the food here, but the wait is always quite long. The dining room is tiny, so it's also quite noisy. Still, if you're looking for awesome, cheap food, check it out!

Beef Molcajete & Chicken & Shrimp Fajitas Lunch

By Mohammad R |

Food was good overall. The chips were too greasy and deep fried. Please bake the chips and go easy on the oil for heath reasons. The parking lot is tight and hard to get into.

Solid 3 stars

By TravelingAimee |

Solid 3 stars. Yes, the parking sucks but at least they now have a system in place with guys in the parking lot directing you to the next open spot. We dropped someone off yo put our name in (45 min wait at 8pm on a Thursday) then waited in line for a parking spot. So by the time we actually got a spot in the lot we only had another 10 minutes before our group was called! The food is ridiculously cheap! The most expensive item was $12 and the portions are insanely big! I thought "how big can the Mexican taco plate be for $8?" OMG we could have shared it 3 ways! It had 3 street style tacos, 1steak, 1carnitas, 1chicken which had 2 tortillas under a huge pile of said meat so it's really more like 6 tacos! Plus beans and salad. And let's not forget the chips and salsa bar with a huge selection of salsas and their famous bean dips! I can definitely see why this place is so popular. I didn't give it more than 3 stars cuz while it's cheap and big it's not all that authentic. The food from the salsas and salad dressing to the tortillas and chicken all reminded me of El Torrito which isn't necessarily a bad thing but in LA there's so many great taco shops I'm not completely confident I'll be back. Maybe if the parking were easier or they offered valet I'd come back.

Best Mexican Restaurant in North Hollywood!!!

By gcj20132018 |

If you are looking for delicious food, not only will you get the most delicious food in North Hollywood, you will also get the most affordable food. This restaurant is the best. I love the food, the service, the environment, I love everything about this restaurant.

Great food but poor parking

By CJG |

Our food was amazing but I am glad we called ahead because it was a 1.5 hour wait and parking issues. We parked in line for 20+ min just to find a parking spot. Advice call in order and go early.

Not a good experience for us

By Roadwarrior172 |

Was told we would have a 30 to 40 minute wait as the line was long. This was clearly a lie as we ended up waiting closer to and hour and a half before we got seated. I stood inside as the person answering the phone repeated this time frame to every caller or person that came in clearly knowing it wasn't true. People that had ordered take out alos experienced the same thing and it took forever for them to get their food. Unfortunately it was a Sunday night, we didn't know the area or we would have left. When out turn to be seated cam up, i know because I was checking the list, I saw two other groups get seated in front of us, maybe its because we were gringo's I don't know. We got seated after I pointed that out to the hostess. The food is ok and there was plenty of it and by then we were starving. One son ordered buffalo wings, huge mistake. Yeah I know not the best choice at a Mexican restaurant but he was excited that had it. Basically just some chicken wings covered with some kind of wet sauce, not what you would expect from "buffalo wings". He didn't eat them and the waitress didn't care that they didn't meet what any reasonable person would expect to be served. Just pay, they need the table. Would not go there again as much for the blatant dishonesty I witnessed regarding what they were telling people the wait was never mind the food.

Mexi Can be authentic

By Felix_lechat |

Beautiful Mexican. Very authentic. Gigantic portions but high quality fresh ingredients. Accent is in flavour over spice for spice sake. Refills your glass before you blink. The service is thoughtful, friendly, frequent and prompt. Would definitely return. Think of going early or be ready to line up. This place is getting a reputation.

Best food in area

By DAVID W |

Okay Me and my wife travel to Mexico at least twice a year.every time we travel we stop at a little roadside cafe it serves the best rice and beans I have had since i was little boy until we tried this place the food is excellent and unlike many chains both location are equally excellent. This is the most authentic Mexican food I have had since I returned to the states. If you live in the area this is the place to go for authentic Mexican food. Just be ready for a line ause the food and atmosphere isn't a secret. This is a must try in the San fernado valley

Huge portions long wait

By wvillamil |

Went there for the first time on Sunday afternoon. The place was full, waited over an hour for a table. The portions are these huge platters that are very filling. The menu is large and most of the large plates cost 12.00 very reasonable.

WOW! Best. Mexican. Food. Ever.

By scooter46 |

That title is a big statement. But I've eaten a lot of Mexican food over my many years. I seldom give five stars but this place deserves it and the lines to get in attest to it also. We had Tacos Carbon Asada and a margarita. Usually one is better than the other but not here. The bean dip and chips started it off. The chips were light and the dip had just the right amount of bite. The drink was excellent and strong and the tacos were.... well, the best. The meat had that fresh off the grill taste. The beans were pretty much the same as the dip and the rice was very fluffy and flavorful. I don't usually eat the rice because they all taste the same... Just colored white rice. But this rice was just as tasty as the rest of the meal. We didn't try a dessert because our meal was substantial and we had to take part of it home. We also didn't visit their salsa bar because everything was just so good we didn't think it could be improved upon. I can highly recommend this place. If you're with 30 miles, make the drive but plan to wait on line....unless you get there about 2 on a weekday afternoon. The cost is reasonable and the service was better than most. The place had numerous TVs so if you just can't miss that soccer or basketball game, this is a great place to watch it.

Top class Mexican Restaurant

By Lior B |

you better reserve your table before to this restaurant , otherwise you will have to wait.... the food is amazing , mexico at its best !! we went for the lunch to avoid the waiting and it was very busy. very professional service , they have like a salsa and dressing bar ( around 10 types) which you can use as accompanying to your tortilla chips before the main dishes. the chicken fajita is very good and and you can really enjoy in this restaurant. also , try the the strawberry margarita. cut long story short - this restaurant will make you happy.

Worth it!

By EduTravler |

Great prices. Great carnitas. Great enchiladas. Great service. But....go early or plan on waiting a long time. Limited parking.

Very Good Mexican Food

By TravelinAlan |

The food is very good. The portions are huge. You better be hungry. I really liked the tacos. +Excellent margaritas and a good happy hour.

The Best!

By Todd N |

Reasonable, charming decor. You wait but so worth it! Great margaritas and the food is so tasteful and fresh. Salsa bar is great! A flavorful evening. Will be back often.

Amazing and Authentic!

By MissKiaBaby |

The food here is amazing! The drinks are cheap, but very tasty and get you right! It does get really crowded, but it is definitely worth the wait. The service is quick, but it all depends on the time you get there. Parking is hectic, as their lot is small. Street parking in the area is usually not too bad.

Excellent Mexican food

By juan p |

The delicious food. The dishes were extremely large, the flavor was very good and the service was very friendly. We ordered carnitas fajitas and shrimp tacos and everything was delicious.

Good food at great prices

By Mark J |

This has become my go to place for reasonably priced Mexican food. It's pretty large and always crowded but worth it. I've pretty much stuck to the basics: tacos, enchilada's etc. and they're all really good. My wife and son love their fajita's. Parking is HORRIBLE! I either park on the street or in the Home Depot lot. Be prepared to wait but in terms of value/food it's worth it. My only (odd) complaint: The soda's are served from the bar "gun" and they're terrible. Have to stick with beer I guess!

Well worth a visit

By Dan G |

The food is delicious, authentic and very large portions. When in the area, I stop for lunch. Their Carnitas is awesome, the chicken dishes are very good and my boss believes their fajitas are the best she has eaten! Initial impressions of the outside of the building is misleading. Go inside and taste great Mexican food. The service is good, not excellent but the food is worth coming back again and again and ...

Well supported by the community

By John C |

Parking was the only real difficulty. Seating was slow because it is so well attended. Food choices were excellent. Service was good once seated. There was no pressure to rush an excellent meal.

One of the best places for Mexican food in an array of Mexican restaurants!

By RogueMadraDubh |

Once you enter the restaurant you forget that it's in a not so great part of town. The wait staff make you feel welcome & your order is always right. The food is absolutely delicious & the salsas RAWK! You can't go wrong.

Excellent

By MaryAnneNaperville |

Love the steak tacos. Corn tortilla was thin and crispy. The other three people with me had the burritos, enchiladas and tacos. We all loved the food. It came out quickly and hot. I personally thought the beans were too hot, but the others with me liked them. The rice was very good and I would go back just for the rice and steak taco. It was a bit too noise for me, but other than that the atmosphere was nice. We took two flans home because we were stuffed. They'd were very good, too.

Great Enchiladas Suizas & Friendly staff

By Joe G |

I absolutely love coming to Salsa & Beer. Their Enchiladas Suizas are always the perfect combo of creamy and spicy. Most places make their Suizas far too acidic. But Salsa & Beer strikes the perfect balance between salsa verde and creaminess.

Don't let the wait scare you off.

By Norm R |

The food is terrific. Considering that the dining room is closed, I will say only that back when you could sit down and eat, the best time to get there was 4:30 pm. Also, the bar prices are reasonable and they had tv(s) visable in all directions to watch sports. I guess until you can eat in the dining room, all I can do is say that the food is excellent and very reasonably priced. The guys who run the parking lot keep things on an even keel.

Great Food But Be Aware of Parking and Location

By Rogerdob |

This place is busy (be prepared to wait, even on a weekday) and it's because of its good food and tasty margaritas. However, be aware of the terrible parking situation...they have a parking lot but it is jammed with cars waiting for spaces! We decided to park on the street but the neighborhood around the restaurant is a little run down and the streets do not feel safe...we felt our car might be broken into. We found a space on the busy main street in front of the restaurant but it was over three blocks away. Get there early to park and to wait for a table!

Yummy!

By MissKiaBaby |

They have this amazing soup. Full of veggies, cheeses and chicken. The enchiladas are my favorite! Really good food. Just too damn crowded. I hate the long waits. Drinks are good,! Get there early and it’s A+.

Inexpensive and Amazing!

By Victoria L |

Salsa and Beer has some of the best Mexican food I have ever had. They start you off with warm bean dip and chips; you could almost be happy just eating that! The food is so delicious and so reasonably priced that it's unbelievable. The only problem is there is a LONG wait to get in, but I tell you, it's worth the wait!

They forgot about us...

By Eddie D |

We were visiting feom Washingtonstate. We heard all good things and that its worth the wait. So when we arrived it was a 45 min wait. No problem. Well as time went on it seemed like people were coming in after and getting seated sooner. Reservations? Nope... some how were got taken off the damn list! 1 hr 30 mins + later we finally asked them how much longer and thats when they said we weren't on the list. So they immediately seated us next after that. Would have been nice to get some compensation for the mess up being the kiddo with is didnt have the energy to even eat anymore and literally slept in the booth while we ate (long day at universal studios and wanted mexican food. 9 yrs old). With all that being said, the food was excellent. The enchiladas are off the hook. Salsa bar is legit! Margaritas on point! Service was good. Can beat the price for the portion and quality! Would go again. I'd just double check the waiting list to avoid that from happening again.

Macho- Mucho Bueno Mex

By johnnydiamond3 |

On a recent trip my brother who lives in Burbank suggested lunch. What a wonderful experience it was. Salsa & Beer is in North Hollywood. It’s difficult to find parking in this area so if you can go in there like we did at 2pm. Still busy but our waiting in line to get into the parking lot took less than 5 minutes. It is worth the hassle. Once inside you can pick up that “ this must be a great place to eat “ vibe. Looking around there were many beautiful families enjoying beautiful food. They make a complimentary Bean Salsa served with fresh chips that I had never had before. It was excellent !! While waiting for our food our waitress also encouraged us to check our the Salsa Bar and we did. Food came out fast.......... Thank God........I could have made a meal of the Bean Dip and Salsa. I ordered a Molcajete ( beef ), it knocked my taste buds but good ! It was so generous I hade the leftovers for breakfast. Being a MNman ( for Minnesota) i love Mexican food and culture. No where better than this place !! Every aspect worked for me. Give it a try. J3

Yummy

By ROBINSKI-2017 |

When I visit LA, I always have to have this when we get in town and sometime before we leave. There is a big wait, but its worth it. The salsa bar is yummy. The spicy green one is the best. The prices are reasonable. The service seems slow, but Ive gotten use to that.

Best food worse service.

By Erik V |

As the title states. I'd drive pretty far to come here if needed. However do not make special requests for your order. They'll either intentionally charge you more (with or without telling you) or they'll just screw up your order. No one really speaks good English here. Just come, point to the menu if needed, eat and leave.

DELICIOUS FOOD! However, you will have a long wait to get seated.

By Veronica J |

This place is great. The food is great, I recommend the Carnitas Zacatecas. O M G!!! I love their bean dip too. 2 bars in one restaurant. VERY limited parking. I think the longest we waited was 2 hours and the shortest wait was non peak hours and about 15 minutes (before 3pm on a weekday).

Fantastic salsa

By Sasquatcz1 |

Every time I've been to this place it's been packed. We usually get our food to go, so the wait hasn't been an issue for us. We've always received friendly and quick service. Portions are huge. What makes this place so great is the salsa bar. It's self-serve and the flavors are terrific. The creamy green and red salsas are my favorite. The bean dip is great too.

The best Mexican food ever!!

By rahrah007 |

Great authentic Mexican food, the best I've ever had! The food is delicious and fresh! If your are hungry, this is the place to go. They give large size portions of delectable Mexican cuisine. The service is friendly and very caring. Can't wait to eat there again!

Best mexican food in the Valley

By jorge a |

Salsa and beer is one of the best places to eat in the San Fernando Valley, the staff is very friendly, prices are very reasonable, their margaritas are the best, a bit of a wait normally between half an hour or 45 minutes, but worth the wait, parking on the back you also have to wait but they have attendants very polite and helpful, we refuse to go to the other local places, highly recommend.

Authentic food / lively atmosphere!

By Jbwinlb |

Don’t let the size of the crowds keep you away - it’s a sign of how awesome the food is here! We had a table of 5 on a Friday night - they told us 45 min wait but was less than 20! Incredible salsa bar and entrees are huge! My Chile relleno was one of the best I’ve ever had!!

Great food and drinks

By bikeplaytravel |

Great food and salsa! Very generous serving. Awesome margaritas! They were busy in the middle of the afternoon. Not fancy, but the best Mexican food!

Best Mexican food ever

By David L |

I know its saying a lot, but this was the best Mexican food ever. My customer took me there, he said it was great, he said the food was great, he said save room for the flan. The food was incredible. I didn't save room for the flan, but I ordered the flan anyway. I'm not saying I'm a big fan of flan, but this was the best flan I've ever had. It was really that good. Great atmosphere, fun place, incredible food, and it was not expensive at all.

Great choice!

By Lemon Cat 9 |

This place was suggested by hotel staff during our stay. Was the best Mexican food I have had in a while. Fajitas were good. Enchiladas were amazing. Chips and salsa - yay! Atmosphere was good. Parking was great! FREE Lot with attendant watching your car.

You may have to wait, but it is delish!

By Artzgal |

Really big spot - great for families and friends to gather. The prices are good. The food fresh and margaritas are tasty!

Family dinner

By Chetbauerle |

My mom and uncle came through town on the way to catalina island backpacking trip. My wife and I went to dinner with them at this place. The wait was a bit before we got seated. Once we got in and sat at our table everything was great. great food and good drinks. fun atmosphere and will be back for sure. Thanks again.

Good Margaritas, food just ok

By denise65818 |

We went here on Saturday night and the parking is ridiculous! A line out the lot waiting for spots. Then we go in and the bar is full but the Bartendar Cynthia is great and she makes us Skinny Margaritas that are great! When we were seated they brought us into a cave like room in the front of the restaurant and the noise was so loud it made it hard to even enjoy your company. Service was good but the food was just ok. If I come back it will just be to sit st the bar and have a great margarita!

So Delicious!

By IronMerMayden |

I would've never thought to try this place if it wasn't for my co-workers. I've been working in this neighborhood for 15 years and I've missed out on this place? It's really good! And it's an obviously popular place. The parking lot was packed. It's really really good! Tasty Mexican. Will go again. But I'm trying to watch my figure. :) I do need to try their other stuff too. I had their 2 Beef taco platter with Caesar Salad. That dressing was good too. Just thinking about it makes my mouth water.

Old Time Authentic Mexican Restaurant

By susanlasvegas |

Before you even get inside, just know that the parking and the hour wait is atrocious!! The food was good, not great---and certainly not worth the wait. The service was good and they have more types of salsa than i thought possible and those were great. I had steak fajitas and the steak was very over cooked but tasty. The place was noisy and crowded but the wait staff was very friendly. I was visiting my son and he loves this place, but because of the wait, i would not go back. This is southern california and i am sure that there are hundreds of Mexican restaurant just as good
