My brother and his wife and I had lunch at Salt Traders Coastal Cooking in Austin. The service was friendly and attentive and the food was outstanding. All three of us enjoyed our menu selections. I had the shrimp and grits, which were some of the best I have had. This is a popular restaurant; go early.

Salt Traders might have one of the best happy hour deals around—$1 oysters, discounted appetizers, and solid drinks every day, including weekends. We came on a holiday Monday just before 3 PM, which meant we could catch both the lunch menu and the start of happy hour. If you're into seafood, this place is a gem. Environment: Bright, open, and coastal-chic without being pretentious. The high ceilings, warm wood tones, and ocean-inspired art make the space feel breezy and relaxed. There's a big central bar with glowing amber lights above it, giving off a soft warmth even in daylight. Service: The staff were kind and upbeat, but once happy hour got busy, things started slipping a bit—our oysters took about 25 minutes to arrive, and our check had to be corrected. That said, everyone stayed friendly, and they made the fixes without a fuss. Now for the food—fresh, flavorful, and surprisingly refined for a place this relaxed: Raw Oysters (happy hour: $1 each) Chilled, clean, and briny—some of the freshest oysters I’ve had recently and a total steal at a buck apiece. Steamed Mussels (happy hour: $10) Served in a rich charred tomato and white wine broth that we mopped up entirely with the crusty toast. Portion was generous enough to share. Seafood Gumbo (lunch) Deep, dark roux with layers of flavor and just the right amount of heat; small bowl, big flavor. Shrimp Scampi Linguine (lunch-only) Wild Gulf shrimp tossed in lemon white wine butter with garlic-parsley linguine—light, tangy, and perfectly cooked. Would I return? Without a doubt. Next time I’m grabbing a dozen oysters the moment I sit down and exploring more of their happy hour snacks—maybe the fish dip or hushpuppies. Salt Traders is the kind of place I’d gladly put into my regular rotation.

Upon the recommendation of my brother, we had lunch at Salt Traders off MoPac. The service was friendly, the food was delicious, and the place was well maintained. The restroom was clean. During our visit we dined in the bar area, which had several televisions - with the sound off - tuned in to college football games. We enjoyed our visit and I would certainly return.

Had dinner there the other night. We had tried to come here for lunch a few weeks earlier and there was too long of a line at the time. We were given a small portion of some very tasty smoked salmon spread as a treat from the kitchen. Then we shared a good Cesare Salad (there was one anchovy in it, which I'm glad I noticed as I don't like them and the strong flavor would have bothered me if I ate it. I would have preferred being told about it.). We shared linguine with clams and the dish was quite good. 6 cooked clams on the half shell were around the pasta which had a generous amount of bacon in the sauce. We also shared a lobster and shrimp roll. It wasn't as tasty as the linguine mostly due to the mayo flavor and bits of celery. It wasn't bad, just not that special. All in all, this was a pretty decent meal and we'd come back again.

This is a great location. The staff is very friendly and helpful. They have great food. I love this place. I would highly recommend this restaurant.

We had a terrific dinner here while in Austin. They have delicious fresh seafood and also some comfort food. Excellent service, food, and options. They have quite a few gluten-free options as well. If you are in Austin and don't want BBQ or Tex Mex, I would suggest trying out this place!

Great drinks, great oysters, great staff. Everything prepared is a SUGAR BOMB. That includes the gumbo, the lobster fried rice, the "glazed" grilled tuna, the "glazed" grilled salmon. I like sweet in deserts. In appetizers and entrees, it says the chef does not know what he is doing or they are playing to the lowest common denominator.

Wonderful dinner once again! Our waiter Jake heightened our visit even more with his customer interaction and aim to please. Every dish was fresh and tasty. Head and shoulders above our disappointing dinner in PTC last night. Snapper collar, chowder fries and gumbo started us off. Yummy! The collar was so different and delicious. Then crab cake, potstickers, crab ravioli, and cioppino. All great. Shared the pineapple coconut dessert which vanished quickly! Lots of fresh oysters available here as well. Go check this spot out. Both locations are so good.

There are so many awesome choices on this local seafood restaurant! I have to have fried oysters and smoked fish dip with homemade chips! The grilled fish of the day is always delicious. It was redfish on this visit. Daily specials are always worth looking at. Easy parking, electric atmosphere and wonderful service add to the meal!

We went to the pre-opening event which made us want to become regulars. We’ve been here multiple time before Covid 19 and have always come away totally satisfied. Occasionally we would go in for happy hour and try many of the appetizers which are all superb !! The mussels and BBQ Shrimp being my favorite. The Fish Enchiladas and the Fish and Shrimp platter are my regular “go-to” entrees. Love the place !

We had a wonderful dinner with friends. We had reservations for 4 and requested a quiet table so seniors could visit. Our booth was closer to the kitchen but enabled us to converse easily. Salads were fresh and clam chowder was delicious. We enjoyed the wood fired salmon, seared scallops, crab ravioli special and lettuce wraps. Portion size was good and we didn’t want dessert. Would go again.

My brother and I and our respective wives had lunch at Salt Traders Coastal Cooking. The service was outstand, the exterior and interior well maintained, and the food was delicious. This seafood restaurant opens at 11:00 AM for lunch; we recommend you get there early because this is a popular restaurant. We witnessed a number of folks from a nearby residential facility for the aged dining here.

The Fish Tacos and Seafood Pasta got a good rating from the teens. The Shrimp and Lobster Roll dishes both got a good as well. I will note that all four of the above mentioned entrees were fully consumed so they must have something going for them. The Clam Chowda is good, but a bit too salty, and there isn't a lot of clams. My wife enjoyed her Fish and Chips, but I found mine to be a bit too greasy and a little cold. The Guacamole, Shrimp Cocktail and Key Lime Pie were all superb. Service was spotty, but acceptable.

The staff alone deserves a 5* rating. For one thing, there were enough people working to efficiently handle the crowd. Our waitress was a genuinely nice person. We opted to sit at the bar and of course, we could order from the all-day menu. You get an honest drink for your money. The four of us shared an order of the grilled oysters as an appetizer. The topping included Parmesan cheese and brisket cooked to the point where it tasted like the best bacon bits you ever tasted. I ordered the fried shrimp and fish filet, and substituted broccolini for the included cole slaw. The batter on the shrimp and fish was just perfect. Not too much breading - but it was so good you wished there was more. Everyone else enjoyed their food, but I was not about to share... The four of us split the special dessert of the day - a sponge cake with a ginger-pumpkin-infused ice cream. Another home run. Forget that this place used to be a Texas Land & Cattle franchise outpost. This restaurant is the real deal.

Having eaten at the flagship, Oak Hill's Jack Allen's since it opened, we were not ready to be impressed with Salt Traders. I was wrong. The service was fantastic, with a very helpful server. We were seated immediately, even tho it was 5:30 without a reservation. The happy hour oysters were still on special, and were delicious. My wife had the mussels and shrimp and grits, and I had the braised octopus linguine. Very large portions. Almost too much food. Reasonably priced, and great service and product. Don't want to quote Gen. MacArthur or the Terminator, but this will not be my last visit.

First time here as fish restaurant. It used to be a steak house, but they have changed all the interior to suit the sea. Very impressive. Came with the family while on holiday again in Austin, and had a great experience. No trouble with children’s food and no trouble with my gluten free. Lovely waitress with a great sense of humour with the British part of the family.

This is in the same building as the old Texas Land & Cattle Cattle Company, next to IHOP. I've been there three times. I have had the same experience each time, Great! Be forewarned; I've been there on a Monday, a Wednesday and a Friday. In a word, Packed. Expect a wait, even if you are sitting at the bar. The service is good, the drinks are well done and the food is well above average. I love seafood and eat a lot of it, and will go back soon. It is a bit on the pricey side. Not saying it isn't worth it, just not cheap.

One of the best Seafood & Oyster Bars in Austin, Texas... Super fresh Seafood from all over the country. Everything thing is made made fresh and the wood fired grill creates amazing flavor. The talented mixologist can make some very tasty Cocktails and the have extensive Wine list and Craftbeer selection.

Terrible experience! I went to the happy hour last week spending about $130+ with my friends, and we left about $30 cash tips on the table. However, later the week I saw my credit card being charged 20% tips on top of my original bill even though I left more than 20% cash tips on the table. The receipt that I kept did not have any tips charged. Therefore, I went another time to confirm with the manager. Turns out that they messed up my bill, which I think is not a valid reason and it is unprofessional since I work in this industry too. Although I had the extra charged tips returned, the manager still DID NOT APOLOGIZE for the mistake and told us that "it's just not a big deal". I felt extremely disrespected because I would have been charged A LOT OF MONEY if I never checked my bank account. Moreover, it is just not reasonable at all for the waiter to charge me tips after I left the restaurant with a receipt that indicates there is no tips being charged. This is not a minor mistake and the manager should be more aware of the customers' rights!

Gumbo is one of my favorite soups. The flavor was so good and the spicy level was perfect so I did not have to add extra spicy sauce. The ratio of Andouille sausage to seafood seemed to be 1:1. Since I am not that big a fan of sausage but love seafood, I will not order this again. The menu offered a good selection and the happy hour offerings look great. The service was terrific!

Great place to get back to the old normal. Tuna Tartar was delicious and lovely in presentation. Attractive decor with outstanding service.

This was my first visit to Salt Traders & I loved it! I have rarely eaten out since Covid but I felt safe there. Staff were welcoming, friendly & helpful with recommendations. Our group of 6 had great service, tasty drinks & wonderful food. Oysters (all kinds) were excellent, mussels were fresh & in a terrific sauce, and cioppino was rich & flavorful albeit with less seafood than I’d like. Others at the table were happy with their selections: oysters of all sorts, grilled striped bass, shrimp cocktail & fish enchiladas. I’m amazed at the reasonable prices, especially with discounts on appetizers & drinks during happy hour. I am already planning what I’ll order on my next visit. Highly recommend!!

We had a delicious dinner with family last week at Salt Traders. The cocktails were good, and the wine list, though short, has a very nice selection of varietals. For appetizers, we tried the oysters on the half shell and the ceviche. Both were excellent! Oysters were super fresh, and the dozen included three different types of oysters. The ceviche was made with salmon, and a lot of it ... very good indeed! We all tasted all of the entrées ordered, which included shrimp and grits, wood-fired salmon (with a side of bacon mac & cheese), fried fish and shrimp platter, fish and chips, and cioppino. We all agreed every dish was on point, seasoned perfectly, and served hot. Special mention on the cioppino… I make a great cioppino, Salt Traders' was a close second! We decided to hang around for dessert, and we tried the iced coconut mousse and the Keylime pie. Both were excellent! Shout out to our waiter Tom C, great service, attentive but not intrusive, and he displayed a great sense of humor as one of our party knocked her water glass over a couple of times! LOL It was a wonderful experience, we’ll be back!

I had a terrific lunch at Salt Traders! The salads are not the same old thing but have extra special ingredients that make them tasty and different. My friend had the scallops and I enjoyed the Cioppini (ms?) soup with a good variety of seafood. The flavor was great and the sour dough bread was good too. Michael is working as a waiter and he is very knowledgeable and a great gentleman. Adam took our order and he was wonderful. Everyone who has taken care of me there has been terrific! Thank you!

We met our son here to celebrate his birthday. It was our first time to eat here, but our son eats here a lot so he knew what to order. His chicken sandwich was huge and delicious. And so was my shrimp po’boy. My grandson’s double meat hamburger was very good. My husband and DIL got the pork fried rice which was so-so. The service was great and the prices were about average.

I had a spicy shrimp cocktail which was great. The fried fish and shrimp platter was terrific as well. $10 for a small piece of Key Lime Pie with little flavor was disappointing, but overall it was a good experience.

My wife and I have been here maybe five times at this point, and we're always impressed. There's very little left on the menu that we haven't tried, and everything is fantastic. My mouth is watering just thinking about this place. You can't go wrong. Try the salmon collar! That's fun. Ok now I've created a full-blown emergency. Time for trip #6.

This was our first time to Salt Traders Coastal Cooking. We walked in and there was a hostess behind a desk. We stood there for over 2 minutes and she never made eye contact. I asked if we should sit ourselves. She said no but went back to looking at her screen. Finally another person came and sat us. The restaurant is large with a lot of booths which we like. My husband ordered the fish and chips. I had a cup of clam chowder and a lobster roll. We both agreed the food was average. We both had better elsewhere. My lobster roll came with plain potato chips and nothing else. The waiter was good keeping up with us on the refill. What made us sure we will never be back is the price. It was about $10 higher than what we can get elsewhere and as I said the food was average.

Our party of four stopped by for lunch after spending the morning at Barton springs in downtown Austin. Our waiter. “Stosh ”, was friendly, knowledgeable, and attentive. We went with his suggestions and had a delicious lunch. We thoroughly enjoyed the yellow fin tuna steak, the seafood tower, the local beers and their frozen watermelon margarita. Their condiments that come with the seafood, such as the horseradish, are all made fresh in-house. Our amazing lunch was topped off with the best key lime pie we have ever eaten (including in Key West). I highly recommend this restaurant and will definitely go back anytime we are in Austin. Make sure you ask for “Stosh”!!

Feels like a large chain restaurant ..great service I had Ciopinno and we tried oysters . Wine and cocktails ..super busy .. spot..nice environment, well spaced and easy parking..close to city .will be back

The menu is limited but the dishes they have are well done. Service was very good and prices were okay. All that said we still were not impressed and would not recommend to visitors on a limited stay in Austin. There are just too many awesome places to eat.

Another amazing meal at Salt Traders this week! From start to finish, everything was superb... for beginners, Aubry, our waiter, did a fantastic job, attentive but not intrusive. The best waiter we've had in quite a while! Thank you Aubry! For starters, we headed straight into the sea: oysters and ceviche. Both were outstanding... the oysters were big, plump Gulf oysters, served icy cold with all the trimmings, saltines and hot sauce on the side. To die for! The ceviche was also very good, perfect citrus-cooked fish, mango, and a little heat, served with lime wedges. Delicious! Entrees included shrimp and grits, fish and chips and cioppino. The grits were perfect, shrimp grilled to a "T" with a nice Cajun sauce included. The fish and chips were likewise off the charts, perfectly seasoned fish, light batter, fried to perfection. Very tasty, seasoned fries as well, also served piping hot! The star of the evening, however, was the cioppino. I've tried cioppino all over, and I make a pretty darn good one too (recipe from Phil's Fish Market in CA). Salt Trader's cioppino was heaven in a bowl. Not only was the broth divine, the amount of top-quality seafood in the bowl was amazing! If you're a fan of cioppino, you have to try this one. If you're not a fan of cioppino, you should still try it! LOL Finally, we topped the evening off with a slice of key lime pie... wonderfully delicious and finished in minutes. So good, in fact, we ordered another slice to go! One of the things we love about Salt Traders is how the waitstaff works like a team. Your waiter/waitress doesn't bring out your food, the restaurant has (what appears to be) staff dedicated to delivering food to the tables, which guarantees the temps on all the dishes are great, hot or cold. Love that! We'll definitely be back!

We were a group of six and we had reservations for 6:30 PM. When we arrived we were seated immediately by friendly staff. Our server was exceptionally friendly and attentive, and the food was delicious. I had a bowl of seafood gumbo followed by the wild gulf shrimp pasta. I have dined at this restaurant on several occasions and I have never been disappointed with the food and service.

First time at this (really good) restaurant. Great “vibe” on entry … seated promptly with a reservation on a Saturday evening, by an update, obviously happy fellow. Greeted by Aubry (see photo), our server, at the table, who was delightfully engaging throughout our meal. He also made excellent food recommendations. My wife enjoyed the house (“on tap”) chardonnay, and my frozen grapefruit margarita was very refreshing and perfectly blended … smooth. A dozen oysters to start … 4 different types (from Maine, Connecticut, and PEI. Yes please! All delicious. Great start. We also enjoyed the salmon nigiri and Peruvian scallop. I had the cioppino. Really good tomato-based, seafood broth, with a slightly spiced (in a good way) kick. Three good size shrimp, clams, mussels, and fish. Great dish. My wife had the broiled flounder, with broccolini, tomato and rice, which she enjoyed. Key lime tart for dessert was a perfect ending to a great meal … not too “limey, tasty pie crust, with a touch of whipped cream on top. Coffee very good too. Thanks Aubry for shepherding us through a wonderful dining experience. Aldo good value. Looking forward Monday night Happy Hour!

We enjoyed a great dinner here. We had reservations and were promptly seated, even though they were very busy. Tables were nicely spaced, service was prompt and good through the evening. We enjoyed some nice small plates and then dinner. We definitely enjoyed the experience and would go back.

Had lunch at Salt Traders Coastal Cooking where it was my first time here. The place was busy and met my party in the back room. It’s basically a seafood restaurant where first had to try a cup of Clam Chowda. The chowder had great flavor and very delicious. I then ordered the Fish Sandwich with the fish blackened. The fish sandwich was very tasteful. I enjoyed very much brioche bun had that nice buttery flavor. The restaurant had a great coastal atmosphere centered around a bar. The staff was very friendly and cheerful.

First of all, this place deserves a higher rating on TripAdvisor. Clearly should be in top 100 or so restaurants in Austin. Ate dinner here for the 2nd time with my wife. Ten minute wait to be seated was no big deal on a Friday night. Love the side room, which had a gire going in the gas assisted fire place (which is high quality, real looking fire). Salmon nigiri for each of us start. Tasty, fresh tasting. Then grilled oysters, served hot, with a delicious andouille and garlic (?) sauce. I had the snapper collar — lightly breaded/fried, a challenge to eat but just the right “zingy” spice and worth digging at to get to the tender fish. Cioppino was great. Full of seafood and a full-flavored tomato-based (with onion) broth. My wife had a fish called “skate,” a flaky white fish that was served piccata-style, which she enjoyed. Great server, Sasha (?). Really enjoyable meal. This place is clearly one of the best seafood restaurants in Austin. Very menu, every food item tasted great. Nice atmosphere. Reasonable prices.

Update November 2024 Another good meal from the standout Salt Coast Traders at Zilker Park. Service was crisp and attentive, thanks Bing! We started with one dozen gulf oysters, shucked well, served ice cold, delicious. Entrees included shrimp and grits, fried fish and shrimp platter, and a bowl of cioppino. All were served piping hot and very well done! A couple of dark and stormys were quite tasty! No room for dessert this visit, dinner was good and plenty! Highly recommend the Zilker Park location of Salt Coast Traders! November 2023 Another amazing meal at Salt Traders this week! I’m in Austin for business and I picked up a to go order and brought it back to the hotel. I am sitting here eating the shrimp cocktail and it is absolutely hands-down the best shrimp cocktail I have ever eaten in my entire life! I have not even started the entrée felt like I had to stop and write a review!

This place is just no where near good. Caesar salad is horrible ( do not know what the cheese is but it aint parmesan), Atleast they tell you ahead of time the shrimp and gritz are going to spill everywhere ( maybe wrap it in saran wrap) - either case not good dish. The burger is the only thing decent and still just an 8 but if i wanted a burger i would have gone somewhere else. shrimp and fish basket is a joke-do not put cole slaw in with the hot food, it is not even in a seperate container - i dont like hot coleslaw . The gumbo is the worst - rue is beef based and generic ( bad taste). Fish tacos are the worst. No bread with the gumbo. The portions are horrible. I love Jack Allens Kitchen but this experiment they attempted is just not interesting. Dont waste your time. I dont even think it is fixable.

This was our 3rd visit to Salt Traders. In a short ramp up of less than one year(?), the second store of Salt Traders show the distinguished founder of this store and Jack Allen's gets it when it comes to Texas comfort foods, menus, environment, food selection and preparation and, yes, service. Austin has a serious crunch right now on food service staffing due to the food scene explosion of new chefs, new concepts, and lots of chains coming to the fastest growing, most socially conscious food scene in Texas. Awesome job. If you go, remember - this is causal Austin at its best - enjoying our great food scene with great food and service in a jammed, fun environment!

The food was AMAZING, I'm picky about my seafood this place has fresh AND delicious. We had the fresh baked bread with pickles. Guacamole Poke' Poke', so flavorful and the Ceviche' also grrreat! The scallops (on point) with asparagus and potatoes, would say my favorite but everything was fantastic. Go! You won't be disappointed!

My boyfriend and I visited Austin for the first time and he was really craving oysters. We happened to drive by this place on the way to the Zilker gardens and, based on the reviews, were very excited about it! We had a dozen raw oysters, 2 of each type offered on the board. We also had salmon ceviche, linguine with clams, the fish special (forgetting what it was right now) and for dessert had the brownie with ice cream and caramel sauce I would say the only thing that wasn't great (it was good, just not great) was the fish special. It was really bland, as was everything on the plate (spanish style rice and broccolini). We added the leftover ceviche juice and that saved it 😊 It is a pricier place but we knew that going in. The service (Danny) was exceptional, the place is brand brand new and really clean. We got there mid afternoon so we didn't have to wait but when we were leaving there was a wait on a Sunday night so I'd recommend reservations probably.

Great service and the food was great the location it is perfect if you Live in Austion or surrounding area, just off of Mopac,

New seafood restaurant that has delicious scallops and clam chowder soup. Service was very attentive and no rush between the courses. Nice cozy and updated atmosphere.

We've been here a couple of times. Scallops for dinner were the best! Fish was good. Clams and linguini wasn't as good as other places. Service was impeccable and better than the food. Potstickers were okay 6/10, Crab cakes were a 7/10, Clam chowder was 9/10. The Caesar salad was disappointing. Both times we really enjoyed the raw scallops and $1 oysters. Trying other oysters from around the world was the most fun of the visits.

Hits and misses at lunch. Clam chowda was an excellent hit. Shrimp po’boy had great shrimps and flavors but the bread was too soft. Lobster pot pie was a miss. But the Key lime pie was a fantastic hit. Will go back for more regular menu items since I really enjoy Jack Allen Kitchen (a sister restaurant).

My son's choice for birthday dinner... and I can see why. We ordered Scallops on the Half Shell, which I had never had. They were delicious! My Shrimp and Lobster Roll was really good as well. Food was terrific. Service was good.

Our group - a table of five - had lunch at Salt Traders Coastal Cooking Zilker on Christmas Eve day. A Texas Land and Cattle Steakhouse used to be located in this property. This is a popular place, and I'm glad we had reservations. The service was friendly and helpful in explaining menu items and our food was delicious. This seafood restaurant has plenty of parking. The restaurant is well maintained.

This new restaurant has a real New England meets Louisiana flair. I lived in New Hampshire for 20 years and have missed the seafood. The chowder was decent but the Fish-n-Chips with real Cod was fantastic. We also had the seafood gumbo that was awesome. The team was great and paid attention to detail. Shining silverware as they set tables and making sure everything was clean. Great prices too.

Austin loves a new restaurant and so let’s see how long the honeymoon lasts with the trendy crowd. I wanted Salt Traders to be excellent. It was not on my first visit but I will give it another try. I started off with a clam chowder that was amazing. Then I made the mistake of getting their daily special; Filet and scallops. It was not a 42.00 entree by no means. The scallops were extremely small and only 4 that essentially was a topping. There was a good 8 oz portion of filet mignon and the taste was good, it was tender but it was the most chewy cut I’ve ever received at a high end restaurant. So I would advise sticking to their specialty which is seafood. And I will be back for another try for seafood and no steak. Our waiter Andrew was top notch and was very on point for the entire dinner. Host and hostess were not the best first impression as they seemed genuinely bored to be there. I’m gonna give this experience 2.5 stars based on the quality of the food. Everyone has an off night. I’m willing to think next time will be better with my choice of entrees that suit what Salt Traders is famous for...Seafood.

After eating here on several occasions and being very happy with our meals we tried something new today. Oysters as always are great as it is pretty hard to screw those up. I tried the fish sandwich and At $18.00 felt it was a total rip off. There was as thin sliver of over salted fish which was hard to taste, aside from the salt. My wife had the salad with 3 “grilled” shrimp . The shrimp were blackened and were inedibly salty. We came in at 2:30 wit very few people in the restaurant, yet it took at least 45 minutes to get these 2 dishes. All in all a very disappointing lunch and doubt we will return anytime soon.
Sunday Brunch With Friends
We ended up here and glad we did. We were actually going to Jack Allens but the wait was too long. This is a “Sister Co” it’s new and beautifully decorated bright and airy. Food was terrific I had the Lobster Pot Pie it had a biscuit layer across the top and was just delicious. Friends had a salad, cheeseburger & 🍟, Seafood soup and all enjoyed their meals. There’s a great selection of beers, wines, cocktails & bubbly. It’s a big restaurant so plenty of room you can just walk in without a reservation. Nice bar area which looked fun. Good staff to wait on you very pleasant. A fun lunch no one rushing us. Plenty of parking which is rare in Austin. Good location easy to find. Glad we came here will be back sometime.
