Staff was accommodating for our reservation. Nice selection of interesting food and drink. Server was nice but a bit off in timing with taking order, didn't attend to the cue of empty glasses and clearly forgot to submit a drink order until he remembered near the end of the meal. Didn't ask if we still wanted it and just brought it. Food and drink quality was good. Tip: if you at all interested, order the duck fat fries. They come out crispy and tasty.

Wow! INCREDIBLE!!! What a first impression, no less!!! We got there, with the notion that we made reservations earlier, in the day, so we planned accordingly, but I guess MY dumbass forgot to press enter or something and failed to actually make the reservation! Well, we were lucky to get the best hostess, to land us a seat and a great server, who answered all of our questions! The FOOD & DRANKS are phenomenal and will have you leaving in a food coma! Cheers!!!

The roasted bone marrow appetizer is fantastic. Definitely try the pastrami salmon also! Loved the atmosphere and staff!

We had reservations for 6 at 5:15 on a Friday. The hostess had a warm, welcoming demeanor. Wait staff was efficient and friendly. We did the Happy Hour menu so the prices couldn't be beat. It's a very relaxed atmosphere with fabulous service, food and wonderful frozen margaritas. Close to perfection.

The food far exceeds expectations. The service was great. Arrived at the end of happy hour so drink prices were reasonable. For the price, the quality of the food is stupendous. My only complaint is the noise level is way up there. Even after some of the happy hour crowd left it's still really loud. With a visit.

Decent food. Service staff really can’t be bothered to actually serve. Maybe an off night for everyone we interacted there, from the hostess busy shopping on Amazon to a waiter that couldn’t be bothered to take a simple drink order. Also suggest double checking receipt and credit charge, our waiter decided to double his tip. Can’t say my handwriting is the best, but it is not easy to mistake a “20” for a “40”.

Found this place on a whim & it hit the spot. Food was delicious, wine was great. Atmosphere is dark & quiet which I love. Highly recommend seeking out this hidden gem.

All the dishes we got were scrumptious! We ordered the redfish, cauliflower, dirty fries, and collard greens! Everything tasted of umami and had nice textures. But it was the frozen margarita that really made the evening awesome! Our server was so sweet and helpful too! A great and fun dining experience!

Very relaxing place after a long day. in Austin on business was a great to unwind. Food was great I am not the most gourmet person but i was happy with my selection and beer selection

Food was awesome. Really enjoyed it!! Very impressed. There were 6 of us and we ordered fish, chicken and the steak and everyone was happy.

We went for happy hour. I had the veggie plate and it was AMAZING. My husband had the filet and now it’s the only cut of steak he’ll eat. I definitely want to go back

Go to happy hour at Salty Sow on a regular basis. They have many $5 and $6 appetizers. Highly recommend the carnitas tacos and the deviled eggs are a must...the best eggs ever. Their margaritas are also very popular. The cuisine is upscale southern and the atmosphere is casual with a pig motif.

Visiting for the first time back in May and went again when in town in October. There was 5 of us, and it is definitely a good idea to have a reservation. The place was packed on a Thursday night. We started with several starts including the duck fat fries, bone marrow, pastrami salmon and the oyster boudin balls. All were fantastic. The salmon and bone marrow were my 2 favorite but again all were great. We asked for dinner recommendations. I settled on the pork belly which was melt in your mouth deliciousness. For dessert I had the buttscotch boudin which is fantastic. It has salted caramel on top of a rich butterscoth pudding like dessert. While there were no faults with the food, there were a couple issues. Our server took our starter orders which came and were great. Then about 20 minutes went by and we didn't see our server again to order drinks or main dishes or even clear the appetizer plates. We even asked the hostess stand for our server and that didn't work. Eventually a new server came by and said our original server had a table of 20 and was stuck splitting up checks. Understandable, but not handled well. I order a glass of wine. When I took my first sniff/sip it was clearly from a corked bottle. I was able to get a new pour which was night and day different. I hope no one else was served that same wine and wasn't confident to return it. With dessert I ordered a bourbon which was forgotten and I had to ask for it again awhile later. Since the food was so good and willing to let the service issues go this time. Especially since there were no issues last time.

The food was great and so was the service. The exterior made it seem not too appealing at first, but inside is nice and cozy. You have to eat there at least once. It's not a cheap eats place, but it isn't super expensive either. Try the Mixed Berries Custard and the Pork Belly, your taste buds will be happy.

My husband and I visited the Salty Sow for date night and thoroughly enjoyed it. The bone in filet was tender and incredibly flavorful. The banana foster beignets were a perfect end to the meal. Our server was friendly and attentive. The only complaint I could have was that it was crowded when we first arrived and acoustics were not great so it was very loud. As a few tables thinned it got much better.

Delicious, creative food! And good value, with entrees from $15-25. Top service! So glad we got a table for our one night in Austin with family visiting from Australia. If there are no reservations left, try your luck with a walk in table!

Food, wine and service all excellent. At our table we had the delicious truffled deviled eggs for appetizer. Four generous halves of eggs in a bed of greens was enough for the three of us, accompanied by a wonderful white sangria drink. These were on the happy hour menu. For dinner, we had crisp chicken thighs, blackened redfish, crispy brussell sprout leaves and roasted organic beets with goat cheese. All but the chicken thighs were excellent; the chicken thighs were good but less inspiring. Everything was beautifully presented and served. For dessert, three of us shared the bananas foster beignets with nutmeg ice cream--outstanding!

Salty Sow provided a great meal. The charcuterie platter was yummy and the brussels sprouts are not to be missed. The steak, the duck and the burger were great. The banana fosters beignets fed us all.

Easy to get to from downtown Austin. I reserved through Open Table and was sat immediately upon arriving early. No waiting for the rest of my party host stand shenanigans. Good drink menu, the wait staff explained the menu well. I ordered a cocktail and it was tasty. The burger was great. My guest wasn't too hungry and ordered creme brulee which I was told was awesome. If I am ever back in Austin, I will try again.

Expectations were high and they were met. The host was very friendly, as was the wait staff. The menu is far beyond just pork and includes varied Austin creative bistro food. Brussel sprout leaves and the big red snapper filet were highlights. Didn’t have room for desert - maybe next time!

One of the BEST restaurant experiences we've had in a long time. We ordered the Charcuterie Board, the Duck Fat Fries, the Slow Cooked Beef Shoulder, and the Sow'rita (one of the best margaritas I've had in a long time). Everything was not just delicious, but interesting & intriguing as well. The place has a great vibe. Our server was excellent. Only minor flaw was that the water had a funny, (not-so-funny) taste. But we didn't go there for water. Our server apologized and gave us a break on the bill. We'll definitely be back. So many good plates to try next time.

Wonderful dinner with my wife. I had the pork chops and she had the crispy chicken thighs. We get to swap tomorrow night as the portions are big enough to share. Definite recommend.

So many choices of good stuff to try, but we splurged & tried several. I had the candied pork belly w/collard greens. The name of the dish is misleading. It was slightly sweet from brown sugar on top, which I loved. Was afraid it would be too sweet. Nope, just right. My husband had the pork roast or something like that. Pulled pork type dish over white beans. He loved it too. We had the triple fried duck fat fries. Excellent fries and 2 sunny side ups eggs on top. Great to dip your fries in. Also had the Brussel sprout leaves with raisins. My husband isn't a real fan of Brussel sprouts but couldn't stop eating these. They are like roasted and heavenly. Waiter was excellent & very friendly. Always refilling our tea & water. Wished I lived in Austin to enjoy more often, but we will be back. Great place! Great atmosphere & more importantly great food!!!!!! Love love !!!!

Went here on vacation with family. Had the duck fat fries. They were good, but the flavor profile was not spectacular. Did not like the almost raw egg on top. The duck breast was good , however it was a small plate. All the items seemed to need a bit more seasoning. Most of re he dishes came with a egg on top. My sister ordered the greens and was not happy. She said they tasted like vinegar and they definitely were not typical greens we are use to in the county or south. Our waiter, David, was very nice and helpful. We had a pleasant dining experience. The place is small. The decor is very, very nice. The atmosphere is pleasant. If you want to try something different and you aren't starving, try this place out.

I love this place. My sous chef introduced me. If you're a burgers and fries, bbq type person then maybe it could be odd to see things like duck fat french fries, beets with goat cheese, and so on. however, if you know quality and aren't afraid to try something different, try this place. The only thing I can say I haven't liked, is the mac and cheese. I feel mine is better, but wouldn't I though?

Went here for out first night in Austin and wasn't diaappointed. I had a fresh Collins to drink which was delicious and then we ordered the slow cooked beef shoulder, the candied pork belly and a side of the cauliflower wild rice garlic dish. They all tastes absolutely incredible, the cauliflower in particular I could have eaten a main dish of. Staff were super friendly, really chatty but not annoying. If this is what American hospitality is like then I can't wait for the next 2 weeks here!

We had been to this restaurant before, when our daughter got married. it was good then, it was still good this past May. The wife had a soft shell crab, I had the petite bone-in filet, charcuterie board's shared by all. Price was very reasonable, about $770 for a party of 10, including tip & drinks." Service was a little slow at first, but once things got rolling it was fine.

A four star experience without the price. Beet and goat cheese salad, brussel sprouts, honey chicken and biscuits, and banana foster beignets were all exceptional! First time there and totally impressed!

I have celiac disease, so for me having gluten free options is important. I had the slow cooked beef shoulder with mashed potatoes and carrots. Everything in this meal, even the au jus, is naturally gluten free. The truffled deviled eggs are also gluten free and really good. The other people in my party had the fried chicken thighs and wagyu burger and really liked both. Parking: There is a parking lot, but an attendant is there so don’t try to leave your car there and walk to the Longhorn football game. Seating: Indoor and outdoor options available.

After a long day found Salty Sow a perfect place to relax. Opened with drinks: Blackberry lemonade and a couple of glasses of Pike Road wine, followed by roasted bone marrow and truffled deviled eggs for appetizer. Loved the marrow and crusty baguette ... the eggs ... not sure I'd order them again. I think I can do better at home. Went all in for the beef shoulder, candied pork belly, and petite filets. All were absolutely delicious ... perfect seasoning, rich deep flavors, and reasonable portion sizes. Attentive service by Scott made for a relaxing evening after a long day.

the neck bone gravy just threw me off... wasn't a good fit (for me) for the fired checking. appetizers were good. maybe I should have selected a couple of appetizers for dinner. Burger was ok, chicken with that neckline gray was "interesting" to say the least. Biscuit was tough

Went there for a belated birthday dinner with my daughter. It was enough off the beaten path that it wasn’t overrun with tourists and the parking was ample. We had a delicious dinner with an even more delicious dessert. Wine recommendation was spot on and we left feeling well taken care of. Thanks!!

Great atmosphere. Food was amazing. Loved the variety and little bites. Service was excellent. Highly recommend this restaurant.

The food is over the top great. I had the blackened red fish, OMG was it fabulous. The wait staff makes you feel that you're the only people in the restaurant. We love the fact that you can make reservations.

When in Austin there's lots of food, especially barbeque, but this place is a little different with some interesting variations on classic dishes. Let me say, I thought they were interesting variations, but they may be typical for Texas, but certainly not for Boston. needless to say, everything was very good, portions were big, drinks were excellent as was the service. Try the chicken thighs and pork belly as well as the fries in duck fat. This is an adventure especially if your from up north.

Glad I made a reservation. It gets busy fast on a Saturday night. Jonathan was our waiter and he took great care explaining the menu and making sure we had drinks and food in a timely manner. We started with the TRIPLE FRIED DUCK FAT FRIES with 110-minute egg and cold béarnaise. The fires were so crispy and that egg running over the fries was like an over easy egg with home fries at breakfast. For my main course I had the duck breast, perfectly cooked medium rare. The cardamon-orange soil paired nicely. We also tried the crispy brussels sprout leaves which were much better than boiled brussels spouts. The creme brûlée for dessert was a good size for sharing and very good.

We recently visited Austin and had dinner our second night there at the Salty Sow. So good, it was the only restaurant we visited twice, our return trip on the last night of our vacation since we knew it would be the perfect send off. Over the course of our two visits, we had the charcuterie platter, fried green tomato/pulled pork sliders and bone marrow appetizers. Meals ranged from burgers to pork tenderloin to chicken thighs and my vegetarian sister had many options to choose from. The beet salad was top notch and don't miss the brussels sprouts. If you love them - you will love them here. This is a must stop on any visit to Austin but have reservations because this place is hopping!

I have probably been to Salty Sow somewhere in the realm of 10-15 times, mostly for happy hour, because let's face it, I'm a gal on a budget, but you can put together an excellent dinner from the happy hour menu. We always get the duck fat fries, but the crispy Brussels sprout leaves, catfish taco, and honey rosemary fried chicken are also excellent. Their house margarita is great as well. The service is terrific and it is just all in all a great place to come to celebrate something big or small.

Great triple fried duck fries with eggs! I highly recommend it. The portion is huge so definitely shareable. The pork candied was just ok. I didn’t find it that flavorful and it was kind of overly salted. Nevertheless, we were glad to try it!

Came here with a group of 6 on a Friday night. I made a reservation way in advance, and was glad I did - the place was packed! The service was fantastic, our waiter was very attentive and one person in our group had some dietary restrictions - he was able to recite the options that were gluten free by memory. Impressive! The food and cocktails were absolutely delicious as well. We did a cocktail flight which was really fun. Everyone in our group raved about the food for the rest of the weekend, it was all-in-all a great experience. Would definitely return!

My Bad, I was looking for a BBQ joint, this is not that I really dont want this review to be negative, if this is what you are looking for. We only sat outside but really enjoyed atmosphere. The menu was limited I expect due to Covid. I would suggest looking at menu before you go, stuff like pork belly and duck fat fries with egg on top. Food was good, drinks selection good, but very expensive.

This was somewhat disappointing with an almost redeeming dessert. When researching places to have unique, Austin culinary experiences, we chose the Salty Sow based on reviews. Upon arriving, service was great, sat in a nice spot near the open kitchen and our server was friendly too. Their wine list is very limited, even their “reserve list.” They do have a full cocktail list, with some nice options. The cocktails we ordered were nicely done. The food was really the issue… Their triple fried fries were luke warm when they arrived and definitely not “triple fried crispy” like they should have been! The egg did little to help it and the sauce was totally bland. The brussel peels were tasty and crispy, these were nicely done. Deviled egg was decent, nothing spectacular. The biggest issue with the appetizers was we latterly got them within 3 minutes of ordering them… how’s that possible? Tells me some items were pre-made, which is NOT acceptable in a place where freshness and flavor is key. Also, throughout, it seemed like table turn was important, we definitely don’t like this either. When it came to entrées, the chicken thighs were boring and bland, definitely needed salt. The burger was decent, so was the blackened fish, but neither were spectacular. The carnitas offered nice flavor, but very little zing, nor spice as it definitely needed a little salt. Up to this point, we were indifferent about this visit, then we ordered dessert and their bananas foster beignets were the best thing we tried in this restaurant that evening! Seriously great! But seriously, should dessert have to be the star of the show?

I’d give it 3.5 if I could. Gave it the extra half-star because service and ambience was on-point. Food was better than just ok, but really didn’t wow me. The table got the fries, brussel sprouts and deviled eggs for apps. All good but nothing that made me jump-up-and-down. I got the bone-in filets. I always struggle with temperatures because I like between medium and medium-rare. These were very rare (which I can’t find fault because a good steak really should be less cooked). They were good, but like I said very rare to the point of being cool in the center. Seasoning was ok but was a little light. Can’t speak for the rest (8 of us), but my final opinion is that it wasn’t bad at all, but I wasn’t excited, and the cost was fairly high and I wouldn’t make it a point to go back.

We went with great hopes and were pleasantly surprised with our start, but somehow it turned. Service was good throughout but the food did not get better, just the opposite. Felt bad because we were very hopeful, the experience was good. But the final check sent a terrible message. A little above average food at premium plus prices. Will likely try one more time before we give up but I’m not optimistic.

Went there last night for dinner and had a very enjoyable meal. I ordered the charcuterie board and duck fat fries, my daughter ordered the duck breasts, and my wife ordered the blackened redfish. The duck breast and blackened redfish we’re cooked perfectly and were very appetizing. The charcuterie board had a number of delicious items on it but found the prepared meats to be surprisingly bland. The duck liver pâté was absolutely devine .The duck fat fries tasted mostly like regular fries but had a fried egg on top of it. Nothing special but still done well. The service was great and would definitely return here again to try some of the other items. I can see why this place gets good reviews as I would definitely recommend anyone to give it a try.

Even with the 50 minute wait I give Salty Sow four stars. We were shown to a little alcove area to wait where we could order cocktails and some nosh, which made the wait much easier. Service was fantastic and the pork belly out of this world. With such a busy place I’d expect the server to try and rush us out, yet I didn’t feel overly rushed once during the meal. Be warned, the parking is a nightmare. Make reservations if you think you want to go here.

Needed a couple cocktails to sort out some problems, found Salty Sow on a walk to Mi Madres. The happy hour list was compelling, I probably should have stopped there. Devilled eggs with Truffles and Fish Tacos. The waiter convinced me to add a beef shoulder - excessive no doubt but great to try new things. It was served in a skillet ! Good fun, the establishment is an old house and quite unusual in a good way.

Had the 4 course special for $20. Choice of appetizers, salads, mains courses and desserts. I had the chicken liver pate, brussels sprout salad, blackened redfish and beignet w/ice cream. Smaller but just right portions, The Little Larry margaritas are recommended. Everything was delicious and the service was also top notch.

Bachelorette party of 7. Great service, amazing food and delightful cocktails. We enjoyed the bone marrow, charlottes web cocktail and Brussels were our favorite. The $5 happy menu is killer. Great spot.

We had dinner here with some friends on Friday evening and enjoyed ourselves. The restaurant was completely full at 7 pm when we arrived, but our table was available. Service was prompt and friendly. The menu limited but complete with staters, salads and main courses, we had the pork shoulder which was satisfying but without our sufficient flavor to make it interesting. The grits and brussel sprout leaves were excellent, aswasthe banana fritter desert.

Nice place with indoor and outdoor seating. Food is good and service is very good. It seemed the individual reviews ranged from great to good.

We stumbled on this restaurant during our passing thru Austin TX. With No reservation we were lucky to get in. I would recommend making reservations if you can. If you are travellers, and didnt make reservation, either for lunch or dinner time to go early before the local crowd comes in. It does get busy. The food is amazing. Some of the best food we had during our 2 week vacation driving across USA. You must try the Truffle Devil Eggs, The Duck Fat Fries, and the deep fried brussel sprout leaves. We couldnt stop eating.

The restaurant was busy but we were seated quickly. Their alcohol selection was good as was their food menu. Everything we ordered was delicious! The prices were fair for the quality of the food.

My friends does not eat pig (pref and not religion) and he enjoyed this place too. Nice cocktails. A bit noisy and quieted down later in evening. Nice meal. Waitress was iffy - young yet forgot some things. She was kind and comped some champagne for a special celebration. She likely was just tired as this is a happening place.

Drinks here are great, service is incredible. Half of the inside has a kitchen view. It's a very noisy, crowded place when full; not ideal for a business dinner of more than four. As advertised, it's a fat-heavy restaurant. The food is quite good, but you have to like bacon and duck fat. Collards are coated in bacon grease in a way that my grandmother would have loved. Brussels sprouts are fried crispy - nicely deconstructed so they are light and not soggy. Blackened red fish was quite good - with a large enough portion that I took a third of it home. (All the portions are large - salads are easy to share.) People at the table had beef shoulder and duck and raved about both. They do exactly what they promise - great meats-based food with about the best service in Austin. Not my favorite style of food, but if it's yours, you can be sure these people will rock it.

If you want to go, reserve a spot now then read more about the restaurant later. We couldn't get a reservation while in town so we rolled the dice and showed up at 5pm on a Saturday. They told us it would be an hour wait, but since we were the first to be on the wait list there was a little nook where we could sit on the two available stools in front of a small ledge and order off the happy hour menu. We only wanted duck fries, deviled eggs, fried chicken and pork belly tacos (all happy hour menu items) so this worked out perfect for us! If you like truffle oil you'll LOVE the deviled eggs. It wasn't over powering like some thugs that are cooked with truffle oil but it was enough to where if you don't like the flavor you wouldn't enjoy the eggs. We love truffle oil so these deviled eggs were amazing! The pork belly tacos come with a soft boiled egg on them so be prepared for the yolk to crack and run on your plate or lap. For all the hype on TripAdvisor, I though the tacos were okay but my wife enjoyed them. The duck fat fries were over glorified fries. No doubt they were good fries, but I would never tell someone to go there for the fries. They also came with a soft boiled egg (kind of like a poached egg). The fries chicken was good but the honey butter took it from good to better. I didn't take rosemary in my bites, if you are craving fried chicken this will satisfy your craving plus some...but I wouldn't purposefully go there just for the fries chicken. Drinks! "Sparkling Sangria" was more liquor than sangria. "Maple Glazed Old Fashion" was more old fashion than maple glazed. Surprising when I put just a little bit of water in it the drink opened up to a beautiful maple flavor and I enjoyed the rest of it "Pecan St. Martini" was like a chocolate martini. I didn't get any pecan from it and didn't get any brown sugar. I was hoping it would be kind of like a praline flavor, but instead it was just a chocolate martini with a sugar rim

I stopped in here around 8:00-8:30pm after my plans fell through one day of my trip. I was alone, and was worried about being judged for eating alone--luckily, they sat me at a "community" table, where I was a seat away from other couples. The server was super helpful and kind--he recommended items to me and explained the menu. I got warm olives and an elderflower liquor sangria to start with, both of which were delicious. I got one of the nightly specials--a cheeseburger with duck fat fries for dinner. The burger comes medium rare, which I personally prefer, but if you want it well done, you'll have to ask. The fries were delicious!! Very crisp and good with the bernaise sauce they sent with it. The prices were good for the quality of the food, and I ate almost everything on my plate. I would have gotten dessert but I was too full!

Finally went here with my husband..1st time, even though I live right around the corner..I LOVED my meal!! We started with Pastrami Salmon per our waiter's request....Best Salmon I think I've ever had...served with delicious picked red onion and an amazing creamy dill sauce..AMAZING. Our waiter also recommended the Redfish. Best redfish I've had since a friend used to catch it fresh and have cookouts...LOVED the redfish..LOVED....We also shared the beets--DELICIOUS--Had the brussel sprout leaves, they were delicious too. We were both so happy with our meal, my husband ordered the Bananas Flambe per our waiter's suggestion...While I was perfectly full and did not try any of the gorgeous, large plate, I watched my man eat at least half...he loved it....I can't wait to walk around the corner and go back ;)

Sunday night dinner out while on vacation. Service was painfully slow. Our waitress seemed to be covering too large an area, but since our food was delivered by several different people, we cannot blame it on the waitress. The place was not that busy, so no idea why everything took so long. The food was delicious. Crispy chicken thighs and pork butt with the mashed potatoes and beet salad, then dessert. The entrees were excellent. I would have expected the beets to arrive as a first course (they were on the salads menu) but they were delivered along with the entrees. Ordered coffee and dessert, and I was nearly through with the coffee before dessert was delivered. Butterscotch Budino was small and fabulous. Bananas foster beignets were oversized and came with a super-sized serving of ice cream. Overall we felt the meal was a good value, the menu choices were unique, the atmosphere was nice and the food was really tasty. Our only real objection was the length of time it took before our food and drinks were delivered.

Interesting place.....looks like the building has been extended throughout the years to accommodate more people. Appetizers....deviled eggs and duck fat fries....very good. My entrée, blackened redfish was very good. This may not be the place for you if you're looking for better portions. Service was good.

Awesome restaurant. Great vibe. Chris our server was excellent. We had the charcuterie board to start followed by the slow cooked shoulder, pork carnitas beef filets all very good. Place is dog friendly.

We went there two for dinner two evenings in a row . Enjoyed some superb food. Especially the veggie lovers should taste the mushrooms.

My daughter lived in Austin for several years and we tried many Austin restaurants, cafes and bars, large and small, whenever we visited. If you want to try my favorite of them all--Franklin's included--venture across the freeway to Salty Sow and enjoy some excellent Austin food. We always go when we are in town and have never been disappointed. Go during happy hour for some amazing bargains and portions that will be adequate for dinner in many cases. We went Thursday on a whim about 5:15 and were immediately seated at a shared table in the back area. That sounds terrible when I write it, but go with it. You can be as sociable, or not, as you like with your tablemates. If the weather co-operates (which it wasn't last week) offer to sit on the patio. Or you might be seated inside at one of the many smaller areas. Upfront is the white tablecloth seating and in the back you will find mostly tall tables with backless stools. Service can be a little slow, but we always agree that all is forgiven when the food arrives. My all-time favorite is the shared fried chicken--warm and crunchy with just enough maple syrup to dip it in. We love the chicken liver mouse and Brussels sprouts and, well, just about everything! Go ahead. Make the reservation, especially during South By, and you won't regret it.

I wish I had a bigger stomach so I could eat more! So many items on the very creative menu. The atmosphere is charming. It was a beautiful day, so we sat outside and enjoyed the patio/courtyard area. I would dine here regularily if I lived in the area. I started with the Chicken Liver Mousse, because, duh, I LOVE a good mousse liver. Followed by the Crispy Brussel Sprouts (another weakness), followed by a nightly special off menu, that I cannot remember what it was now :( but I remember it was incredible. My date enjoyed the Crisp Chicken Thighs which were....divine. I doubt you can go wrong with any menu item in this place.

Decided to check out this place for an early Valentines dinner. First off, so glad we made a reservation, this place was packed, the wait was over an hour. We got seated immeadiately in the back house area. From start to finish the food, drinks and service were exceptional. The 3x duck fat fried fries are quite possibly the best fries I have ever had. Try some of their amazing cocktails they are worth the price.

Excellent meal. Cuisine is Texas upscale. Great variety. Excellent service. The Bananas Foster benets were delicious, as was the rest of the dinner. Casual dining but with an upscale twist to the menu. Good place for a date or family dining.

Casual fancy restaurant that had interesting meal choices. We had duck fat fries, our meals were good but expensive and small portioned, and dessert was so good. Highly recommend the creme brulee or banana foster beignets! Our cocktail wasn't very good but other than that good restaurant!

This was my first experience trying bone marrow. Out of this world flavor. Perfectly roasted with bacon and gruyere. Does it get much better than that? My server, Kyle, was very familiar with the menu and helpful with any questions I had. For dinner I had the wagyu burger with duck fat fries. Cleaned the plate. Everything was delicious. The atmosphere was great, partial indoor/outdoor with barriers for the wind/cold, and accommodations for a tree growing right in the middle of one of the dining areas. I love it.

We had the most delicious meal in Austin when we went to the Salty Sow! The collard greens were so delicious, the brussel sprouts were phenomenal, and the pinto bean salad was to die for! First time I had a budino too and hopefully not the last! The staff was so friendly, informative and efficient! Awesome place! Sat outside under the warming lights! It was a fun time!

A must try! The fries are served with a fried egg on top and a simple bearnaise dressing.I paired my fries with some tasty fried chicken thighs. They gave a nice little happy hour. You might be seated with others. A lively little place. A tad over priced.

I enjoyed a lovely assortment of food. Ruined by the fact! That I was charged twice for this meal, and converted into NewZealand dollars this is considerable sum! I gave the waiter my card and requested he add paid for the food, and we would give a cash tip! He withdraw $228.33 twice from my card plus the tip added to 2nd transaction! Very expensive, and extremely disappointing! That’s why in New Zealand you take your card to the counter after the meal, don’t let your card be trusted in the hands of busy stressed staff! Amounted to over $725 NZ! ‘Absolutely Crazy’!

We turned up on a Friday night without a reservation and were thankful to be seated as the restaurant was packed full! Food and cocktails were delicious, and service was attentive. I had a belly pork dish with collard greens and soy and it was amazing, followed by the biggest, yum creme brûlée ever... both were really great. My husband’s food was equally as good - he ate every bit! Go here I doubt you’d regret it, but would probably advise booking around a holiday period and weekends!

A delicious and different type of dining experience. Duck fat fries. Great service and atmosphere. Delicious pork entrees.

My husband and I came during happy hour and were incredibly pleased with the food, cocktails and service. The dishes were unique and very tasty.

I was pleased with my food, and give the restaurant high marks for their gastropub menu. The Beef Shoulder was super tender and full of flavor - like a modern take on pot roast. It was a large portion with veggies for only $21. Sean Minor Pinot is $12 per glass. WHY NOT 5 STARS? I knocked off 1 star for the waiter's continuous upselling. We were a party of 7 and he tried to sell us extra dishes too often.

This was my first visit to Salty Sow but not the last. I ordered the Genuine Blackened Redfish with quinoa and lentils. The fish was very tasty but a smaller than expected portion for the price. The quinoa and lentils mixed together were pretty good. We ordered Truffled Deviled Eggs for an appetizer which were delicious. For dessert, I ordered the Bananas Foster Beignets. This serving size here on the other hand was enough for 4 people! The beignets were soft and delicious. The nutmeg ice cream was scrumptious. The service was some of the best I've had in Austin. The prices are a bit high for the serving sizes but the food is delicious. The only thing that kept this from being a 5-star rating is they don't serve sweet tea.

This was our first visit to Salty Sow, though we are locals. We Loved the happy hour appetizers and wine! Though I always prefer an outdoor, under-the-trees type setting, this warm indoor venue was great! Loved the tacos and also the liver pate! The house Chardonnay was excellent! We will be back through the winter.

We have friends that took us to the Salty Sow for dinner and it was over the moon delish! I tried the fried duck and I would highly recommended! We love the ambience and music. We will be back!

My husband and I first stumbled upon Salty Sow about 4 years ago after a disappointing dinner somewhere else and we were still hungary. So we stopped there just to have dessert and drinks. Wow, were we blown away! We ordered the Banana Foster Beignets! Yum! Plus, we loved the ambiance. So we looked forward to going there for dinner. Well when we did, we were hooked! So now we go there for a romantic dinner date or special occasions. We also bring friends and family and everyone loves it! We have never been disappointed.

I have eaten here about 20 -25 times over the past 5 years. Service is good and food is excellent. They run a great happy hour each day that really should not be missed. So many good menu items but some of my favorite are: the duck fat fries, The happy hour fried chicken, the chicken liver mousse, the chicken thighs . They often have a burger on the special menu- get that. My kids like beef shoulder and my husband is a fan of the milk braised pork

Don't let the name fool you, Salty Sow does not feature cured pork fare, quite the contrary. The menu is extremely well thought out, featuring a unique array of small plates, salads, bar food, main courses, tasting menu, wines, beers, and spirits. Excellent happy hour menu features deviled eggs, shredded pork tacos, wonderful fried chicken and biscuit. Handcrafted cocktails are extensive and delicious. The four course tasting menu at $20 is an excellent value. Mains include fried chicken, braised beef shoulder, rotisserie pork. Arrive early for happy hour. Reservations recommended.

We live 2 hours away and were in town for a Jeff Dunham show. I searched Trip Advisor and the internet for close places. This place kept coming up. They had a good happy hour menu so I decided to try it. So glad we did. Delicious house made totchos, honey rosemary fried chicken, pork carnitas tacos, pork belly tacos, deviled eggs and bread pudding. The honey maple old fashioned was perfect and The Petey cocktail was very refreshing. Thankfully We had early reservations on a Thursday night because they filled up pretty quick. Excellent waiter named Brad knew the menu and explained how everything was made. Always ahead of what we needed. We will definitely return to the Salty Sow to eat. What a gem.

This is a great place. We are outside and it was fantastic. We had the charcuterie plate and deviled eggs as apps. They were both outstanding. The beef shoulder was fantastic, super tender and full of beef flavor. The creme brûlée was outstanding. The biggest one I have ever seen. The service was outstanding. Definitely will eat here again.

We had a great dinner here the other night. Lots of vegetarian options (although duck fat and bacon are featured in a lot of the best sounding dishes). The veggie main was surprisingly robust and the cauliflower / wild rice casserole was very creamy and filling. One complaint is that the tables are all “irregular heights” which means many were bar height and there were no high chairs available. That was annoying and sort of pretentious (they could easily have a few high chairs for the shorter tables) but I guess they just don’t want young kids dining there. (Many diners will probably find this to be a plus! ) Overall a great meal and I highly recommend it.

We came for the happy hour and stayed for a delicious dinner. The fried chicken with biscuit was some of the best we've ever eaten. I didn't think I liked pork belly until I had the Salty Sow's rendition. Super server! It was a birthday celebration and she brought all of us sparkling wine! The wait is well worth it.

I ate here as it was within walking distance of where I was staying (and, of course, was reviewed well). I was traveling on business, so was alone. The greeter seemed very put off by my request for a table for just one, and implied that I look elsewhere. As I was on foot, I choose to stay. There's no bar to wait, but they do have a "waiting area", which is just a corner of a room with sheets of plastic for windows, and you stand amongst poor patrons who were forced to sit in the tables around the "waiting area". Also, this waiting area was filthy with old cups and plates of half-eaten appetizers that no one seemed interested in cleaning up. When finally seated, it was in a corner, on a very small shelf-like thing, facing the wall. Altogether strange and unpleasant from start to finish. I will say, however, that the deviled eggs and pork belly were delicious. But final insult to injury was that their receipts don't even say the name of the establishment on them! How strange is that? Not great for business travelers.

Last minute we called and got the last table they had. I give this place 4 out of 5 because our server was a little slow. The food was outstanding and was decent portions. It’s a real nice place and we will be going back again.

We recently hit Salty Sow for a happy hour. They offer several small bites and drinks at a good price during HH. We started out with the rosemary chicken and biscuit. They chicken was very tasty and filling. Next, we had the boudin fritters. They have a great spicy taste with a nice aioli to compliment the fritters. We tried a special fried green tomatoes with guacamole and olive tapenade. It was one of the best tasting dishes that I've had there. Of course, we had the classic Blanche drinks to accompany our dishes. If you are looking for a great HH, you should give this place a try. It is not uncommon to fill up quick. I would use Open table to make a resrvation.

This is a quaint spot that was perfect for an after game meal. Locally sourced sustainable ingredients. Farm to table delishishnous. The service was amazing very friendly staff. I got out of my comfort zone and tried an appetizer Charcutier cheese board that contained: Chicken liver mousse, duck ham with mustard sauce, gouda cheese, salmon fritter with dill sauce, pickled onion, candied almonds. Dessert was Banana Foster beignet with nutmeg ice cream and cane sugar and honey sauce........Wow what a treat to your taste buds. Mexican vanilla bean Creme brûlée....the texture and creaminess was perfection

Reservations needed for this restaurant. Appetizers until 6:30 on a Saturday....WOW! I had the chicken and biscuit appetizer. WOW!!! 2 pieces of fried chicken and a biscuit for 6.00. WHAT??? AND it was the best chicken I have ever had! I couldn't pass up the butterscotch budino dessert. OH MY GOSH ...salted caramel, sweet crème fraîche, I was in love! The eggplant fries were yummy! Everybody love the food at our table, which was outdoors. Highly recommend!

We visited as a large party and reserved the private room. The room is nice and can seat about 12 I'd say. There is a minimum but if yore party is doing wine and deserts you'll likely meet it. If you don't have them uncork a bottle of wine and take it home. There wine selection is decent and moderately priced. Service was a wee bit slow but we were a large party and it was quite professional. The attendant even managed to keep separate checks for 5 couples and got them correct. The appetizer foods we tried at my end of the table were the meat and cheese plate which is a must try, the deviled eggs which is in the same category and the fries which were very good. The mains at my end were 2 Redfish which got rave reviews, a fried chicken which was declared delicious, and a duck breast that was also liked a lot. I personally tried the Pork Belly and I was disappointed with it for two reasons. The pork was way to fatty and the dish was small and not filling. The turnip greens in the dish were delicious. I recognize that pork belly is fatty but I don't think I got four bites of pork meat out of that dish after cutting out the fat. The bites I got were delicious and I would have loved the dish had there been more actual meat. All in all, the place was fun and we all had a good time. Next time I visit I think I'll try the redfish.

I love local food spots, so when I saw this pop up on a trip to Austin I was excited to give it a shot. I had the pork belly which was pretty good! They had a good local beer selection which I appreciated. Service was quick which was nice as I had to get in and out to make an airport pick-up. I'd like a chance to go back when I have some time to try more of the menu. Lot of folks were milling about and just chatting at tables after eating - didn't feel rushed to get out. The place was busy but not completely filled. Was one of those 105 degree days so not many people sitting outside. Will probably go back when I come through town, lots of interesting menu items.

You know the old saying if it’s not broken don’t fix it. Well, you’ll understand much better when you visit this establishment. Trying to be creative is one thing but this is a little over-the-top. Perhaps why the prices are over-the-top as well. Small portions entirely over exaggerated. Limited fair and not substantial. Definitely not a place for families with little children. Overpriced wines as well. Go try for yourself during happy hour and save a couple bucks to go eat somewhere else later. Once was enough for me.

Hosted a pig roast for 30 clients at SS...set up outside on patio...food was great and so was the service...special props to Mason - great job taking care of us...pork tacos with all the fixings, beans, guac etc...bananas foster beignets with ice cream for dessert...boudin balls, and charcuterie for apps...the liver pate was outstanding...just a great night...go here!

Salty Sow is WONDERFUL! The food, atmosphere, staff and people watching are great. Salty Sow is a small venue just off UT, usually has a wait - but it's worth the wait.

The Salty Sow was a bustling restaurant in an emerging foodie hot spot in Austin. It has an extensive drink, beer and wine list and a nice selection of entrees. I had the pork belly on lentils and tomatoes and it was both tasty and filling. The fried smashed potatoes were a bit dry.

This place is a mixture of bar tables-stools and fancy white table cloth tables. So, really confusing but food is amazing. We got the grilled Brussel sprout leaves, farm salad, and slow braised pork shoulder. There is a fusion touch to all dishes within acceptable range. All were very delicious. Next time I am in Austin, I will definitely come back to try the fish and some desert.

I can't even remember what we ordered besides the triple-fried duck-fat fries, because the fries totally stole the show. First of all, you only need one serving because that plate is huge. Second, the conversation around your table will pause when the fries arrive because everyone will be busy eating. Third, IF you happen to find yourself in a situation where you have some fries over at the end of the meal, do yourself the favor of bringing them home. They're even good cold.

A group of 6-7 of us gathered for happy hour and both the food drinks were excellent. So was the service. They have some kind french fries here that are TO DIE FOR. I had some kind of pink margarita with a floater that was super. I didn’t pay, so I don’t know the prices here, but I expect that they are high. And this place was packed. A happening, edgy, high-income crowd.

Excellent food and atmosphere. Our sever was great and made sure we were taken care of. We had the deviled eggs and fresh French fries as appetizers and we ordered the chicken thighs, pork shoulder, and beef shoulder. All were DELICIOUS. I am also celiac and they were exceptionally careful with my order. A must-try in Austin!!

We went here on my college-aged daughter’s recommendation. Believe it or not/ she is vegetarian! The menu isn’t extensive but I always find that a good sign that the kitchen doesn’t have to stretch too beyond what they are good at. The vegetable plate and smashed potatoes were delicious. I had the blackened red fish and was impressed with the mild flavors mixed with spices. My husband had a beef shoulder roast and loved it. Bananas Foster beignets completed a delicious meal. Service was very good as well.

We met my cousin and her family. They picked the place. Overall atmosphere is outside, but the heaters and screens made it doable in winter. Overall, burgers AWFUL!!!! Over cooked snd just AWFUL! So…..,proceed with caution!

Overall the experience at this establishment was positive. The happy hour was spectacular as far as the drink selection. Personally I am not culinarily adventurous, however everything brought to the table looked beautiful. The items I was brave enough to try were delicious.

Wife and I visited for their happy hour before a show. My wife mostly ordered off the happy hour menu. The happy hour menu is pretty impressive and reasonably priced. She also ordered the cocktail flight, which she would highly recommend. The flight changes almost daily so be in for a surprise. I ordered the petite filets. It comes with two, but could add a third for an up charge. I didn't but wish I did. The vibe/atmosphere is great. The place has a lot of space and never felt crowded. In fact, there's lots of different rooms and each seem so different that I want to go back to not only try more of the menu, but see more of the restaurant. Great service too!

In the past three years this has been the place to go when in Austin. The food (some call it comfort) is always of the utmost quality. Quality in the products, excellent execution.

Selections of food are great. We had the steak which was perfect. The butternut squash salad was delicious and the truffle deviled eggs are a must. To finish it off we had the banana foster benginets and it was more like a fritter but it was delicious. Lines can be long so plan ahead but we’ll worth the wait which can be an adverage of 30 minutes.

Ambience: a huge restaurant with different sections that look different from each other, giving you a feeling of being in different places at the same time. Large seating areas conducive to large parties. Food: cheese board is a great option. There are dishes called jars here that serve chicken liver mouse and salmon in jars. Really tasty.

This was our first time visiting the city of Austin and we made reservations a few weeks in advance. This is a very nice restaurant. My husband and son had the pork chops and I had the Petit Bone In. All dishes were excellent. Service was excellent and very enjoyable. Would recommend this restaurant.

I've been here several times and consistently leave happy. The pork belly is delicious, and the carnitas is a nice alternative if you don't want something that rich. The wagyu cheeseburger is excellent and they cook it to order nicely. The duck fat fries are a noteworthy experience on their own. They have a nice selection of local beers as well.

Food was phenomenal. Service even better. Well priced and value for money. The menu is varied and they're is something for everyone

We have been here many times before and try to make Happy Hour, not just for the prices, but it's the only time you can get the eggplant fries which are super! Previously, we have tried many of the regular menu entrees but last night had the special menu fish and chips. It was almost as good as our favorite British Pub version.

As other reviewers have stated, this place is deserving of the #1 rating. Sunday night is not too busy, so we and several others were seated quickly without reservations. This is not true any other night according to the host. Fun to watch the five cooks and chefs busy in the kitchen. Service very attentive. The bone marrow was some of the best we have had anywhere and in the largest bones I have ever been served. The blackened catfish was fantastic. Just enough spice and the inside still very moist and tender. It was served on a wonderful bed of quinoa with green lentils. The crème brulee was crispy on top and creamy inside with lots of fresh vanilla. They made me a wonderful virgin Mule.

My wife and I shared some foods- the truffled deviled eggs w bacon starter-whoa, really great, the Beet and Goat Cheese salad, also superb, and a special-The Bone in Filets(3)- all of which were enough for the two of us to share. The meat was precisely cooked and so delicious. Drinks were reasonable and wide selection.

Loved the Pork Belly w/Collard Greens !! ... tender, not sweet & the crunch on the greens made this plate complete. We started with the Duck Fries w/the 110 degree egg. Interesting, but I like anything cooked in Duck Fat & dipping it in egg, turned out to be quite “yummy”. Will definitely try the Charcuterie Board next, as it changes frequently 👍🏼!!

My boss and I went here for happy hour during a recent business trip to Austin. The food was fabulous! We ordered several dishes off the happy hour menu. It was enough to make up a full meal for the two of us. We tried the roasted beet salad, honey rosemary dipped fried chicken, truffled deviled eggs and duck fat fries. All were amazing. It was a healthy portion of fried chicken plus a biscuit. You can tell the kitchen staff takes pride in their work. It was incredible! The handcrafted cocktails were excellent as well. Services was excellent. I highly recommend this restaurant. We were able to get four dishes plus four drinks for under $50 by ordering off the happy hour menu.

The menu offered a wide variety of unique dishes, with a list of rotating specials. The cocktail flight offered is what really sold me on this place. The atmosphere was nice, service was good, and food was great. Perfect place for a foodie to visit.

We stopped in for a light dinner and ended up enjoying a few tasty draft craft beers with equally tasty appetizers off the Happy Hour menu. The truffled deviled eggs were large and delicious, and the biscuits and Rosemary honey fried chicken thighs......WOW, they were great! Actually they were incredibly great! Highly recommend a stop here. The atmosphere is very chill and you will be happy you dropped in! Our server Chris was also super friendly and efficient!

Outstanding experience with delicious food, excellent customer service, and fun atmosphere! Thank you for a fantastic evening!

My family went here for dinner around 5:30 on Saturday, July 21st. We ordered the Charcuterie Board and warm olives for appetizers. My wife had the Hanger Steak special, my daughter had the Duck Breast, my son-in-law had the Cheeseburger, and I had the Redfish with a side of Collard Greens. Everyone was pleased with their choices, and the food was delicious. Our server was outstanding. We will go back the next time we are in Austin. Fun place with great food

Salty Sow is a popular place so I’d call ahead if you can, even for Happy Hour. It is a great place in East Austin to go to right after work and has delicious food! I keep coming back and recommend it to friends because it is so good! This time we just had some happy hour snacks of deviled eggs and fried chicken with biscuits. They have a great bar menu and I had a maple old fashioned and a strawberry pisco sour. If you need some company, hit me up and let’s go to Salty Sow!

A group of us decided to try this place the day before Valentine's Day to beat the rush. All I can say is WOW! We had a bunch of different things and we all shared. There wasn't one thing that didn't taste spectacular. We shared the Warm Olives and Triple Fried Duck Fat Fries. Both were exceptional, especially the hot, crispy and perfect tasting fries with egg and Bearnaise sauce. For dinner I had the Milk-Braised Pork Butt with White Beans. It was marvelous. The meat was fork tender and really tasty, the beans perfect. Tastes of the other dinners, another pork dish and Swordfish, all were really good. We shared a Banana dessert that was great also. The service was as good as service can be. This is obviously a great restaurant and we will be back for sure.

We got here right when the place opened so we were seated immediately. The restaurant had a four course tasting menu for $20 a person which was perfect. Now the only reason I am giving this place a 4 rating is because not all of the food was delicious, but the service was awesome and the ambience was cool. We started with the happy hour special of Honey Rosemary Dipped Fried Chicken with a homemade biscuit - for $6.00 you get 2 pieces of chicken - probably one of the best fried chicken dishes I have ever had. Our Hors d'oeuvres were the truffled deviled eggs and chicken liver mousse - both were just ok, could have been better. Salads were the Brussels sprout Caesar salad and roasted organic beets - the Caesar salad was just that with addition of brussel sprouts, almonds and cranberries, nothing special. The organic beets had goat cheese and pistachio vinaigrette which was an interesting combination. For the main course we had the candied pork belly and hamburger - the pork belly was very fatty, not great at all, but the burger was very good except the waiter didn't ask us how we wanted it cooked so it was very pink on the inside. The dessert was the best part of the menu - the bananas foster beignets are what dreams are made of, seriously order this and you will die happy. The Butterscotch budino is not much to look at but the taste is a slap in the face, very good. I liked this place, would definitely recommend and come back.

Our first dinner while visiting Austin. It was phenomenal- no disappointments at all! The duck fries and fried green tomatoes were great starters. Unbelievably good. The pork belly dinner was perfect and the collard greens were perfectly spiced. We also had the petite filet - soooo tender. The bone marrow and mushroom sauce was just right. Not too sweet. We also had the bananas foster. Not what you are used to - it had a thick doughy shell. It was good. The ice cream accompaniment was awesome. Kudos to the bartender - made an excellent ‘old fashioned’. What can I say other than I wish we had this back home!

Pretty Boho place in Austin and the food is excellent. I had the seared tuna which was excellent and the other offerings looked good too. Worth a return visit next time in Austin for sure

A great restaurant with excellent food and very pleasant staff. My only advice would be if you want a quick meal do not go during happy hour. The place is heaving. But that said enjoy good food and a great atmosphere.

We were able to snag a table for happy hour and we weren't not disappointed! Enjoyed the brussel spouts, beets, bone marrow, pork belly tacos, duck fat fries, and fried chicken. Everything was amazing. The brussel sprouts tasted like candy to me. Bone marrow was so savory. Great wine selection. We really enjoyed the creme brule. Great atmosphere and setting. Our server was an absolute doll. Really gear experience.

HAVE to order the Bacon & Gruyere Rosted Bone Marrow and Pastrami Salmon dip. Don’t forget about the Duck Breast.... the atmosphere is tranquil. Have been here a couple times and it’s top notch every time.

What a cool spot! This is more of a restaurant in a house with a very cool vibe. I have only been here for happy hour which I highly recommend checking out! The menu list and drink list for HH is amazing and the food selection is super good! Keep in mind this place does get pretty busy, I would recommend getting to the place at 4:30pm when the doors open for HH or making a reservation.

Excellent piggy restaurant. Everything we ordered was exceptionally delicious. Wait staff also tops. The candied Pork Belly with Duck Fat Fries - perfect meal - topped off with the butterscotch pudding. Wish we had this restaurant in Manhattan - I'd go once a week.

I always have Salty Sow on my list when I’m in Austin. There were 6 of us on a Wednesday night and we had made a reservation well in advance for 7:30pm. The place was pretty full which is normal. Things got off to a little bit of a rough start. We order drinks and it took along time to get them. Around 20-25 minutes. One person at the table joked that if we didn’t order dinner right away we’ll be here until 11:00 so the delay was very noticeable. I had the Mr Shaw which was brown liquor based and sweet/sour component. We shared 3 starters including the charcuterie and cheese, bone marrow, and pastrami salmon. All are really good and the charcuterie/cheese is good for sharing. I had the duck special which was duck leg confit and half a seared duck breast. There was a light salad. The leg was really good, tender meat and crispy skin. I had the butterscotch boudin which is a personal favorite for me. I will also mention that they have a nice bourbon selection and even for a 2oz pour of 10yr Pappy at a very reasonable price. Since the wait at the start of the meal was extreme I gave 4/5. The rest of the meal was at the proper pace. If not for that an easy 5/5 based on food and atmosphere.

Went on a UT game night, seated quickly and on time. Our server Quinten knew the menu and made several great recommendations, especially the tempura shishito pepper appetizer. Great cocktail list, varied beer selection and excellent food made it easy to see why our weekend hosts have this as their go-to place.

Farm to table menu, great choices for everyone and inventive tasty menu. Its a little bit noisy and hard to chat. Expect to get what you pay for as its not cheap but we’d definitely go again if in Austin

I love coming here for happy hour and devouring the fried chicken and with a Rosemary's Piglet (drink made with bubbles, rosemary and pomegranate juice). If you're feeling adventurous, try the chicken liver mousse. Melts in your mouth with a piece of crusty bread. I'm a sucker for Duck - so for dinner - try the Duck Breast. You can't go wrong with this place. Best to make reservations though as it gets crowded quick! That's a good thing!!!

In Austin on a business trip, and had supper at the salty sow. I had read a review that the beef shoulder was the best dish to have. This advice was spot on. It has been a long time since I had a slow cooked pork shoulder with mashed potatoes root vegetables and gravy. All served in the stainless steel pot.

Really love the menu and its diversity. The brussell sprouts caesar salad is amazing along with brussell sprout appetizer. The tacos with pork were great. The only thing I didn't like, was I felt a little rushed and that they were trying to turn tables. Just coming back from Italy where you own the table for the night it seemed they were pushing to get me checked out .

Features small plate, sharing menu. Happy hour rates, good food, good service and a broad drinks menu make this a very popular place to go.

It was so loud we could not talk. HORRIBLE. Walked in Walked out. Not sure what else to say. Walked in walked out

Two friends & I went to Salty Sow on a weeknight. They had been there before & recommended it. It was 15 minutes before we saw a server. This server seemed impatient & mad from the start of our service. One friend ordered tea. The server brought the box of teas & flopped it open on the table, spilling water on the table. Then he shifted from one foot to the other & scowled while my friend selected their tea. Another server brought two glasses of wine. When I thanked her, she looked at me & walked away. The crabby service continued throughout the whole meal. The only time the server seemed slightly friendly was when he brought the credit card slip for me to sign. I thought it may have been an off night for the server, but then I read a similar review. The food was OK with the redfish getting the best review & the pork butt judged as being so-so. The bananas foster beignet was OK & would definitely feed 4 people. We won’t be back based on the service.

Most of the seating outside in the terrible heat. Some of the food was good but most was over rated. The chicken thighs were so bad they were taken off. Dessert crumble was a giant mess. Fried chicken was fabulous though.

The atmosphere is great. We sat outside on the deck, and they lit warmers that we ended up turning down with no problem. My husband ordered the petite bone in loin and I ordered the Rainbow Trout on special that night. My husband enjoyed the loin, but said the first bite was the best. The trout came with sautéed Swiss chard and mashed potatoes in a creamy wine sauce. The fish and the greens were way over salted, and I had to send it back because it tasted like someone accidentally dumped a bottle of salt on the dish. They redid the dish and it was much better. It was good, but not great. We both agreed that the food was ok, but not worth the hefty price tag.

We ate here on our way back from Austin to Houston and considering ALL the places we have tasted in Austin... we all loved this one ! The food was amazing and the drinks too were superb !!! Its definitely a visit and then visit again place.

My 'foodie' son sniffed this place out on a busy Saturday night. We did not have to wait long, but I recommend reservations. It is cozy, but they can seat a lot of people. The food and drinks we had cannot be explained in this one paragraph. I won't insult the Salty Sow by trying to do so. You have to treat yourself and try it. You will not be disappointed.

My companion and I chose to eat at a local restaurant that wasn't a large chain (there is a location in Phoenix), and out of the downtown mix. We settled on Salty Sow for dinner based on restaurant reviews. We made reservations on Open Table, which I highly recommend as this restaurant was crowded on a chilly, Friday night. We were seated in the covered patio section of the restaurant, which seemed like it had a former life as a house. I asked the manager if we could move inside of the main building, because it was noisy and we couldn't hear each other talk. He kindly accommodated us. We started the evening with the duck fries as an appetizer, which were served hot and crispy. I ordered the blackened redfish entree and my companion ordered the beef shoulder roast. I thought the redfish was just average, and the sides that accompanied the dish weren't anything to brag about. I felt that my companion's beef shoulder was tastier, because it was very tender. He felt that it was a little bland. We both agreed there weren't many dinner entrees to choose from and that the food was overpriced for what we ordered. I would recommend this restaurant as a happy hour spot to meet for drinks, because they have an extensive wine list. Drinks are primary and food is secondary here.

The small menu at Salty Sow is ripe with adventure and interesting flavors. Highly recommend starting with the charcuterie as they are known for their meats. The server was rather disappointing, first recommending only the most expensive items on the menu from every category, then trying to up sell on wine, clearly attempting to elevate the bill. Up selling almost always leaves a bad taste in my mouth, and generally results in a lower tip.

Salty Sow was so much better than we could have anticipated! Our waiter, Chris, was so amazing with his insights and menu suggestions. He even took time to suggest bars to go to following dinner. But back to the food. You must try the Truffle Deviled Eggs! So delicious. Also enjoyed the Brussels sprouts. Our entrees were the pork belly and beef. Topped the evening off with the Bananas Foster Dessert!!!

Went with some friends on the spur of the moment, they had parking! Went in and were greeted as friends not an interruption like some newish places in Austin. Menu was cool and the service was great. The food was not the traditional fare. The presentation and taste were super. It’s a bit out of downtown but worth the five minute drive. After dining in Austin over the last 25 years it’s one of the best restuarants I’ve had the good fortune to visit.

They have a great happy hour menu with a nice selection of drinks to enjoy. The food was great, but I really enjoyed the service. They were always checking to see if we needed anything and the turnaround time between ordering drinks and receiving them was pretty quick.

My husband and I went here for my birthday and we were not disappointed. We skipped appetizers so we would have plenty of room for our main courses and desert. Both of us loved our mains (bone in filets and the slow cooked beef shoulder) and the desert was amazing (banana fosters beignets). This might have been the best meal I have ever had. We made a reservation, which I would recommend. But it seemed like they also had a community table.

Wow! This place was absolutely fabulous! Our waiter, Quinton, was very nice and personable. Also, he gave wonderful descriptions of the food. I had the red fish with quinoa, lentil and a smoked tomato. I was blown away by all of the flavors on the dish and the smoked tomato was great. I would highly recommend this restaurant. Great job Salty Sow!!!

Trendy place with a lot of outdoor seating. Lively (crowded and noisy). Interesting craft cocktails. Amazing cheeseburger, which was very salty as expected. Duck fat fries! Wonderful octopus and brisket. The server was very attentive. Parking was a little tight.

The food was great!! We had the pork belly (awesome), chicken thighs (excellent), and the charcuterie board. The service was outstanding...friendly and accurate. The place was packed! Parking can be challenging. A great meal!

Wonderful food and great service. Lots of options and fun fusion. A group of four shared apps and entrees and had fun mixing it up. The flavors were wonderful. My only wish is that they had a better bar area to hang while you wait for a table. Our server Katherine was amazing and had lots of recommendations. She rocks!

Restaurant is a little gem off the side of the bar & menu is super inventive. 2 of us order 4 items: Truffled deviled eggs with Salty Sow bacon bits, the special “Chicago Dog” (house made smoked hot dog, brioche toast, local heirloom tomato, pickled pepper relish, cornichons, onion, poppy seed, celery salt, dijon mustard jus), crispy chicken thighs (with fried smashed potatoes, neck bone gravy) and broccolini (with toasted breadcrumb gremolata, lemon zest, garlic, brown butter, pecorino). Everything was excellent - both food AND service.

-5 We made an open table reservation. I wanted a 5:30pm slot but wasn’t allowed so I picked the 5:15pm. 5 o’clock traffic made us 15min late, arriving at 5:30pm like I wanted. They turned us away due to this. Don’t try to park yourself either! They block off all spots to force you to valet park!

Took our sons and a College buddy for burgers beets and cauliflower. We had margaritas and beer from happy hour menu and some yummy apps .. plenty of parking, great neighboring eats like Peruvian and Chilean. Enjoyed our meal..good service and plenty of variety on menu

Service was slow for a table of five. Food was decent quality. Standard bar menu. Plenty of parking.

As with all East Austin restaurants, parking is a problem. The restaurant was very crowded on a weeknight but we eventually got a table. We got there in time for happy hour, which was good. Very creative drinks. Food was also creative but didn't knock my socks off (or anyone else at our table). Service was very good. Fairly expensive for what you got but I've come to expect that in Austin's trendy restaurants.

A group of us tried the duck fat fries, peel belly, blackened red fish and a few other appetizers. The fries, and fish are definitely going to be our repeats when we visit again!

We made a reservation for a bachelorette party of 10 on a Friday night, and Salty Sow sat up everything for us nicely! Drinks and food are delicious! Appetizer - chicken liver, fried Brussels sprouts, and duck fat fries are must haves for every table haha! Though they all sound kinda adventurous, nothing tastes weird :) The chicken liver comes as a mousse in a jar; one eats it with bread roll. The fries are just like regular fries with a small twist. The Brussels sprouts is just great! Entree - I particularly like the pork dishes offered at Salty Sow; pork belly and pork butt are specialties, and they are indeed very tasty! Highly recommend the pork belly with collard greens. The belly is tender and juicy, melting in one’s mouth! For $15.5, it is a bargain! We also sample the crispy chicken and beef shoulder. Chicken is very good (beyond expectation), but beef shoulder is just ok. Good but not great :) overall, entrees are all tasty, though the pork dishes are better in my opinion. Service is great at Salty Sow. Do note that a 20% tip is added to the bill when one has a large party (there were 8 of us) :) we enjoyed the service; 20% is reasonable :) Salty Sow gets really loud on Friday night. I couldn’t really hear my friends though we all sat around the same table. Be ready to “yell” haha!

We moved to Austin about six months ago. We have a goal to try a new restaurant each week so we can become acquainted with our new home's food scene. But after our first visit to Salty Sow, it's become a regular stop for our Friday night out. Pretty much a once a month thing, and I look forward to it every time we make a reservation. The atmosphere is nice but laid back. The food and cocktails are consistent and consistently top notch. The parking lot can fill up, but there's plenty of street parking around the corner. We love jumping around the happy hour menu, but you also can't go wrong with the burger, beef shoulder or carnitas. Blackened redfish is next on our list to try. Highly recommend this place, but be sure to make a reservation.

The four-course tasting menu for $20 (Sundays and Mondays only) is a real bargain. Combine that with happy hour, which ends at 6:30, and you get a real steal. The tasting menu's portions are rather small, but they added up to a fully satisfying meal. For appetizers, we chose the deviled eggs and the chicken liver mouse; our salads were the Brussels sprouts caesar salad and the roasted beets with goat cheese; for entrees, we selected candied pork belly and blackened redfish; and for dessert we had bananas Foster beignets (large portion) and a small selection of excellent artisanal cheeses. Service was well paced and efficient, although the restaurant was quite busy (the parking lot was full). Given the crowd, a reservation would be advisable. The tasting menu wasn't even mentioned when we arrived at the Salty Sow, so if you're there on a Sunday or Monday, be sure to ask for it.

The title of the review says it all. It’s a real fun place and a cool environment. It’s a great place for drinks and appetizers. I like the wine list. It’s small, but very good. They have interesting and creative cocktails too. It doesn’t offer many options for gluten free, so I don’t think I’d go for a dinner. I will absolutely go back for drinks and apps.

Arrived in time for happy hour! The fried chicken with biscuit were yummy! Ordered an extra one so we wouldn't have to share the biscuit. Deviled eggs, farm salad, and pork carnitas, all shared between the two of us. Excellent. Wait staff was great, and the drinks were tasty.

Tried this place for the first time last night. Service was excellent, knowledgable waiter, helpful but not pushy. Happy hour drinks were good with a 2nd round just before cut off time. The brussels sprouts caesar salad was fantastic as were our entrees, blackened redfish and pork butt with white beans. The buttermilk pie was scrumptious for dessert. But, the flies on the covered outdoor area were distracting, to say the least, and one finished the evening by committing suicide in my half empty beer glass! The waiter did graciously comp the drink.
Fries
It's almost like going back in time! The food is/seems whole and so delicious. If you don't like meat or fat, this may not be the place for you, but then it's called Salty Sow! The fries are the best thing ever! Could be a dish in itself! Actually, it was last time I was there!
