Our Favorite Dallas Restaurant

By TheLearnedDoctor |

Salum is the most welcoming, comfortable and delicious place to dine in Dallas. The owner and chef, Abraham, is very gregarious, warm and friendly. He always does his best to speak to customers to say hello, ask what was ordered and what we thought of the different dishes. The manager, Dwayne, is just as personable and welcoming. The restaurant is classy and beautiful. The service is always fantastic. And the good and bad thing about the food is that about half of the menu changes every month ... so there is always something new to look forward to, but if you find something you really like, it may disappear at the end of the month! The cheese plate is fantastic. The goat cheese and garlic appetizer is also wonderful. There is something on the entree menu for everyone. I especially love Abraham’s use of specific ingredients and recipes I have never heard of before .... he is the ultimate international cuisine chef, with mastery of dishes from all over the world. This restaurant is perfect for a couples date or for a group of friends or business associates. Give it a try for your next birthday, anniversary, or just a regular night. I’m sure you want regret it.

Dallas Gem!

By damsel2009 |

This place is consistently good, quiet, and I love the interior. Chef owner, Abraham Salum, ALWAYS makes you feel welcome. Specials are great and the hamburgers the best in town. You can't go wrong here. Love it and eat here at least once a month.

For dinner in Dallas

By Dsgandlcf |

The black cod we had was awesome and dinners were a nice size. (Not too large) Pros: food is very good and server was excellent. Cons: noisy

Fantastic menu, beautiful space...

By Scott |

I'm in Dallas on business and was looking for a place to "comfortably" dine alone. I chose Salum based on the reviews on Open Table & Trip Advisor. The staff was very welcoming and friendly, I sat at the bar to eat dinner (unfortunately, I was the only person sitting at the bar). Since I was alone, I didn't have any interest in lingering and the restaurant was not crowded on a Monday at 9PM. I had a glass of wine (they have a small but very nice wine list), a house salad, and the scallops entree at the recommendation of the bartender. The food was excellent although I found the entree a little salty. I skipped dessert although the choices did look good. I found the staff to be the right balance of friendly and professional. I saw both chefs including the namesake come out of the kitchen several times. I would highly recommend Salum and I'll be back next time I'm in Dallas.

Terrific

By MarkPurdue |

Quaint setting in uptown. Terrific menu selections. Service is very strong. And a bit of fun to watch the chef prepare your entree w kitchen in view of your table.

Great!!!

By Mo Mo |

The atmosphere was great. I had the pumpkin pasta and it was fantastic. My companion had the lobster with risotto. It was heavenly. The bread pudding dessert was one of the best I have ever had. I was told by the wait staff that the menu changes often. Salem also makes a great martini. The dining experience was well worth the trip to Dallas, can not wait to go back.

Great spot

By Jedda1 |

Food and service are top notch. We visited for lunch and restaurant was busy which is good sign. We had a starter of goat cheese followed by tri tip steak and mahi mahi which were all superb. Portion size ample and perfect for lunch. Service was just right. Never had to wait for tea to be filled.

Wonderful dinner last night

We have not been to Salum since the pandemic. I forgot how good it is. The paella was the best I've ever had, as was the gazpacho. The Black Manhattan is really excellent, if you want to reduce the sweetness of vermouth. My wife's grouper was perfectly cooked. And the service was excellent, in spite of being short staffed.

Amazing Food Experience

By ViviAnne18 |

Celebrated a friend's birthday and was my first time at the restaurant. The food was amazing, started with the Texas Goat Cheese and Fried Green Tomatoes. Scallops were perfectly cooked and Creme Brulee was magnificent and deliciously prepared. One of the best meals i have had the pleasure of enjoying. The Chef is the Owner, i believe and I noticed he greeted each table, welcomed almost every guest and just had such a presence in both the kitchen and restaurant atmosphere. Only thing i did notice was our server was a bit nonchalant, he was not rude just noticeably not attentive to our table. But he did not impact our meal or experience thankfully.

Don't judge a book by the cover!

Located in a small strip shopping center off the beaten path is a sleek sophiticated restaurant known as Salum. The flavors and quality far exceed the bland exterior. This is not to be missed. A favorite for foodies and those that seek traditional upscale dishes. Chef/Proprietor is tops!

want to like it, but can't :-(

By slh2012 |

Been there 3 times, tried to like it, but can't return... every dish is too salty or too sweet, just not right. And service was a big disappointment couple of times, too. See my previous reviews here... -- 3rd visit: should never return... still, too salty, too sweet, typical dishes there... and the service was rather cold, water was low and not filled for a long time... and the restaurant was not even busy. cold reception. can't rate any higher. i tried to like this place, but can't return there now... and cannot recommend this place. -- 2nd visit: Been there before and was planning to take my tennis group there regularly/weekly. However, last Friday the experience wasn't all that great when I took a friend there for birthday. +: mussels, serrano salad, lamb chop -: lamb patties are terrible, too much flour, neither my friend nor I could finish it, it tasted terrible. Wish we told them lamb chops only. -: the sauce for the lamb dish tastes awful. my friend and i had to ask them to change plate to get it off our plates... it tasted like the worst kind of soy sauce, yet they told me it has wine, etc. really? you must be kidding! yuk! -: raining that night, when we got out waiting for valet, the valet guy took forever for the party before us, took great care of them. However, when my friend asked for his car key, the valet guy just handed the key, that was it! terrible customer service, is this some kind of discrimination on service because we are not your typical good-looking white caucasians? I don't know what it was. we were not treated the same at valet. the valet guy did NOTHING, absolutely NOTHING, did not walk us to our car, did not cover us with umbrella. earlier, he did all of that and more for the other party. Finally, I asked the valet guy if he would provide service. This is just plain outrageous! Don't expect me to take my group there, not the tennis group, not my foodie group, either!

My favorite Dallas restaurant

By aoundthebend |

This is the best value in Dallas. Don't get me wrong, it isn't cheap, but compared to other upscale restaurants in Dallas, it is a bargain. With consistently delicious, inventive food, and attentive service, Salum never fails to please. I love the tomato caprese salad and have never been disappointed with any of the entrees. I highly recommend it.

UNDERRATED GEM!

By TheLearnedDoctor |

Salum is a wonderful restaurant. The owner Abraham Salum is always there, working hard making sure all of his guests are happy. The food is always delicious. We love that a portion of the menu changes frequently. The monthly special salads are always great. Last night I had the scallops entrée with an edamame puree that was like really good mashed potatoes. The restaurant is just fancy enough for a romantic dinner for two, but casual enough for a relaxed dinner as well. Prices are moderate, and the prices are actually very good for the level of food, service and ambiance.

Restaurant Week

By Runtoseetheworld |

I understand that sometimes restaurant week isn't the best food that a restaurant has to offer, with that being said I found their restaurant meal a little lackluster compared to some of the other restaurants on the schedule for the a $49 three course meal. Mussels to start with were quite nice. For mains, the pork was cooked superbly, however It was over seasned with course salt at the end (even my partner who is salt junkie found it a way too much). Desserts were nothing much to write home about, brownie was nice but not anything worth remembering and the bread pudding was rather dry. Probably didn't help that the kitchen is completely open so I watched the staff microwave each dessert all night long. Service was excellent, and the wine list was interesting. I may be open to trying this place again but it certainly didn't woo me on restaurant week. If you like watching a restaurant kitchen this is definitely the place to go, I found that quite interesting. I would be hesitant to come here if you are hard of hearing because it is quite a noisy environment.

Outstanding grilled lobster

By AloysiusDad |

I dined with my spouse and another couple on a Wednesday evening, when the restaurant was practically full and very lively. I had the grilled lobster tail, which was split and served on toasted brioche (2 pieces) with scallion bacon aioli, possibly the best lobster dish I have ever had the pleasure of enjoying. Service was mostly very good, except that I could not understand why our server waited so long to take our orders. Possibly she was distracted by the large (12+) party at an adjacent table??? This restaurant has a VERY serious noise problem. It is one of those places where you have to constantly raise your voice to make yourself heard by your dining companions and have to strain to hear them. Why do very nice restaurants do this, when there are so many ways to fix this problem?

Very Nice

By FartherIsBetter |

Ate here during restaurant week and it was a super experience. Wait staff is superb. Menu is creative with tempting combinations. Breads are amazing! Food was excellent and well presented. Just a very strong positive experience.

Great Food, Great Service, Great Atmosphere.. What more do you need?

By Arthur |

We were looking for a place to eat dinner after going to the theater in Dallas and unlike New York, not many restaurants are looking for new seatings at 10 PM. I had eaten next door at Chef Salum's other restaurant Komali and on a whim called to see if Salum would be open late last night. They were and we were the only table in the restaurant. Beautifully decorated, service was the over the top wonderful, (always there, but never noticed) and the food.. Wow. From new creative dishes to old standards. Everything was delicious. A place that you should go.

Well worth the effort

By WYOfoodie |

What a nice "find." Wonderful, inventive food, and attentive (not over bearing) service that was there when you needed them and not otherwise. Owner/chef Salum was very interested in the experience his guests were having. We were from out of town but discovered this gem through Open Table and Trip Advisor. It is obviously a locals favorite, and rightly so. If you are staying anywhere near it, GO!

A Hidden Gem

By BiddingForTravel |

I received a gift card for Christmas so that's the reason we went there. The rack of lamb and house salad were both wonderful. I look forward to trying their sister restaurant next door, Komali.

Fantastic food, lovely presentation, good ambiance, solicitous waitstaff

By Gray S |

Our supper at Salum was a wonderful experience all the way around. The "squid ink risotto" sounds terrible, but is the yummiest side (to the Pan Seared Scallops) that I can ever remember. The Lime and Sesame Seared Ahi Tuna was fantastic also. You tell by every detail that this is a "Chef's restaurant" where the Chef attends to every last detail.

Average food...

By JKCDMom |

Dined at Salum last night...our waiter was great!!!! Restaurant was buzzing...confusion reigned between the wait staff and the hostess desk...had a table reserved for 6, the hostess sat us down only to be told by a waitress not to put us at that table...so we went to the bar...table ready..SAME table...They ran out of the lamb chops (was wanting these) and the creme brulee...hum...busy Saturday night and you run out of your "signature" dish....I ordered the Cobia (fish)..my whole plate was the same color as my fish..the fish was overcooked as well, and fairly tasteless...so many great dining places in Dallas to choose from...I was not impressed with Salum..The caprese salad and the bread pudding were my highlights.... Not a bad meal, just did not live up to the hype...probably wont return...just so many other places to choose from...

Great atmosphere, outstanding dinner

By lab007 |

Small, yet very comfortable establishment. Stylish. Started the dinner with the appetizer portion of the mussels, with the most incredible fries on top. Beyond fantastic. Dinner was the drum fish for me with charred okra and a tomato "gravy". Absolutely wonderful. My dinner companion had the scallops, which were not shared with me. She saved them for herself. I passed on the berry and apple crisp, but will definitely have it for dessert, next time. The menu isn't extensive, but I'll be back for more mussels and another dinner entree for sure. And the service was outstanding.

This the only restaurant that gets better w/ every visit!!!!

By chamagnegangster |

Prettiest restaurant in Dallas. I normally get the lamb regardless of preperation it never disappoints. Last time I had lobster which was equally amazing! No matter who has waited on me they have always been more than competant. Love Kristen & Mary & Rusty! The owner is always there & has a wonderful disposition! Very genuine! xxoo

Try the Tortilla Soup

By luxgrly |

This was the first stop we made when we arrived in Dallas. The food was really good. My friend had the tortilla soup and I was able to taste it, too! Great flavor with the perfect amount of seasoning. I had the fish and chips, which I really liked. Light and flaky. The portions are a decent size and the service was excellent. Nice atmosphere, too! Another great lunch with my food friend.

What they don't do got them 5 stars

By Tom M |

My wife and I have dined here several times over about 6 years. Salum is reliable and consistent. The ambiance is fine. It attracts a kind of upscale, mostly older clientele. Business casual is the usual attire, though a few men will have jackets and ties. However it is by no means "stuffy" or pretentious. We were greeted warmly by the hostess and seated immediately. Out waiter thankfully omitted any "My name Is ___ and I will be your waiter" line and not once used the word "awesome". He was prompt and professional, providing all the appropriate utensils on time as we changed courses. There were three of us. We all started with a caesar salad (two of us split one) They are served with a couple of mild white anchovies and you can request a couple of extra ones. I had the rack of lamb and it was cooked perfectly medium rare. The lamb was trimmed of almost all fat, so the individual pieces were smaller than usual, but plenty of food. The assorted vegetables were fresh and included broccolini, baby carrots, asparagus, and french variety of green beans. Mercifully no damned zucchini. And no blob of mashed potatoes but rather a delicious serving of mushroom bread pudding. My son had a good steak (filet) and my wife had some excellent Chilean sea bass. The noise level varies with the number of diners, but never gets loud enough to make conversation an effort. Salum is relatively "upscale", but nowhere near as expensive as several well-known downtown "expense account steak house" or snooty French type places. We had one drink, and 3 glasses of wine. The top entrees are in the low-mid $30s. The bill, with tax and tip, was $210. This would be about $140 for two. I would consider it in between mid-range and fine dining, and would certainly be fine dining, if not totally unavailable, in 90% of the country. It is family friendly if everyone in the family is in college or older. I have never seen children here, thankfully.

Great food and serviv

We went for my birthday. Ben was our wait person. With great suggestions. Had goat cheese Appetizer and capresse salad. Good choices for beginning. Then sea scallops and halibut. All great choices. Service and were fantastic.

A great room deserves better service

By Jeff H |

Salum is like that kid you know down the street who has so much going for him but them makes a dumb decision or two that just makes you want to spank him. That's the kind of experience we had there Saturday night. Dinner for 4, special occasion. Endured, ONCE AGAIN, the tired Dallas trope of being led to one of the worst seats in the house (immediately next to the clatter of plates in the open kitchen and the corridor to the bathroom and expected to accept that table. When we said no thanks, SOMEHOW another table away from the din appeared. Grateful for the accommodation, but if you want to be like NY and SF, take us there first. Rest of the review in short: Food was above average (the tenderloin was well prepared if not all that flavorful and the sauce on my scallops was gloppy but it was tasty and the scallops were divine). The room was lovely -- a simple elegance that tends to keep at bay the shrieking drunk girls from Corsicana that populate so many Dallas restaurants. But the service -- oh my. Took forever to get waited on. Took another 10-15 minutes to learn the bottle of wine we ordered (on the menu) was not available, reject the inferior substitute suggested and finally get our glasses of wine poured. Worst of all, literally had to get up and go over to another table where the server was holding court (for at least a full 5 minutes) with a duo at another table just to ask if we could get our bread replenished. I had to repour the wine for us and when I did there was about 1/4 of a bottle left. But guess what got whisked away without a word before we even had a chance to say, "Hey!". So,, Salum is pretty, and TRIES to be that sophisticated restaurant you enjoy in Manhattan, the Loop, Belltown or Hay Adams. But there are just too many misses, especially in service for this place to stay as a go-to for us, alas.

Consistently Excellent

Have come here for at least six years; lunch today. Lunch or dinner, the place doesn’t skip a beat. Food is always perfectly cooked & seasoned, the service is timely, pleasant, and is truly customer-focused. Still our favorite in Dallas.

Casual Chic Dining

By Les S |

Salum has been around for many years and there is a good reason for that, the food and the service are great. The menu changes monthly so there is always some new creative dishes that Abraham Salum has created. There are also a few staples that never disappear from the menu because of popularity. The setting is really relaxed, comfortable and chic. You can easily carry on a conversation, so it is great for a date, couples, special occasion, or just a fine dining experience at decent prices. I would highly recommend Salum to anyone that is looking for a quality dining experience.

So disappointing!

By TrustedTraveller2 |

We had not been to Salum in a couple years, but remembered the great food we had enjoyed previously so we were really surprised when we had such a dismal experience on a recent Saturday night. The place is beautiful, but the din of the crowd is really deafening when the place is full. The waiter was attentive at first, but then seemed to forget us as time went by. (The busboys were very good at keeping the water filled.) The little gem salad and the house salad were both nondescript. The swordfish special on a bed of garbanzo beans, kale and chorizo was dismal. The waiter said that the chef cooked the fish "medium", but it was so dry and overcooked that I couldn't even eat it. In fact, I would have sent it back had it not been that we waited 45 minutes to get it. The bed of garbanzo beans, kale and chorizo was very flavorful because of the sausage, but it was super salty (even for me and I like salt). The tuna special on a bed of green bean puree with quail eggs and tomatoes was equally bad. Again, the fish was totally overcooked. In this case, the garnishes weren't even very tasty. I expressed my complaints to the waiter about the overcooked fish and he said he would tell the chef, but I doubt he did. He was too busy attending other tables. On the good side, the cream of onion soup special was excellent.

Always a Good Choice for Lunch or Dinner!

By dallas75205 |

I've been eating hear regularly every since it opened and have never had a bad meal or bad service. The food is always fantastic and the service is always consistent. I always taken well cared for including by the busboys - if that's even the correct name for them. There is one young man who has been there since they opened (I feel bad as I do not know his name) but he always brings you fresh hot bread along with a smile. My friends and I eat there quite often and he always greets us and says it's good to see us. The interior designer did an outstanding job on the design of this restaurant. My friend who is also a designer said that the design of this restaurant just shows you that you can create a good looking and feel of a restaurant with good paint, lighting and a few simple uses of other design techniques such as the painted wood on the back walls and the draped chandeliers in the restaurant. Very classy. I would recommend this restaurant to anyone. Dinner is a bit more pricey than that of lunch. I often eat there for lunch and order a Build Your Own Burger with Brie and some other great ingredients. It's incredible and one of my favorites.

soooo goooood

By Karen D |

this restaurant is amazing . The menu changes every month with the most delicious creations of Chef Abraham Salum .

Nice little restaurant

By exumaswim |

Great little restaurant in an unassuming strip of stores. They don't even have valet parking (I think one of the few that doesn't - but this does not detract from the establishment.) Reservations recommended, as it was a bustling venue on the Saturday night that we went. The three of us were seated immediately - no need to wait and have a cocktail at the bar, which is a very small area. Menu was just the right size with a varied selection. It was divided into 4 sections: Appetizers, which included a soup of the day, Salads, Entrees and Desserts. The three of us shared the roasted elephant garlic with baked goat cheese and then we all had individual appetizers - a tomato and mozzarella salad (the chesse was soft and buttery but the tomatoes were horrible,) mussels, which were excellent and then the country pate. What our waiter should have told us was that the appetizers were large portions that could have been shared. I was so full at this point that I did not want my entree. So if you go - make sure you share an appetizer. As for the entrees, we had to wait a rather long time! Our waiter did come out to inform of us the kitchen being backed up. I also saw him tell this to the table next to us. We finally received our entrees at about 9:20 PM. We had the Lobster tail - tasty but the spaetzle was a bit much, Rack of Lamb - excellent and the Swordfish - very good. Due to being so full from the appetizers and our entrees, we did not even look at desserts. We also wanted to make a hasty exit - a foursome had sat down two tables over from us and the woman in the party had the most horrendous perfume on. It was so over powering that our entrees started to taste like her perfume. What a way to ruin such a pleasant meal. Our server was personable but it did take about 20 minutes before our order was taken. We did see him take orders at other tables that were seated after us so this was a bit frustrating. Prices were right in line for the type of food served. Again the portions were healthy. The wine list provided a variety of price ranges and types. There was even a nice selection of wines by the glass.

Reliable and Very Good!

By Ryan C |

I've been to Salum 4-5 times and the first word that comes to mind to describe it is "consistent". The menu is "New American" and always seasonally appropriate. On this visit, we had the Mussels, House Salad and Caprese Salad and the Pumpkin Ravioli. The food was fresh, crisp, savory and very good. I found the Ravioli innovative and very multi-layered. Our service was warm, attentive and knowledgeable. Highly recommended!

LOUD! and the food was not great

Special Dining Experience

By mcgotes |

Although this restaurant and namesake chef have been around for quite some time, this was my first occasion to finally enjoy the "best kept secret" tag that others had shared previously. First and foremost...GREAT and ATTENTIVE service without hesitation. Then add, the varied menu and you have the opportunity to enjoy a memorable dining experience. The four of use each tried something different as an entree, however fully agree that the caprese stacked salad was a big winner!! Each of the entrees were enjoyable although honestly a bit pricey for a couple of the selections and be warned that the wine and cocktails aren't inexpensive...Dessert options were tasty and a perfect end to an overall enjoyable dining experience.

New Year's Eve at Sa;um

By Richard M |

The entire experience was great. Our table was ready just a few minutes after we arrived on a very busy evening. The hostess was very accommodating and our waiter was outstanding. The prix fixe offering was outstanding, particularly the filet and lobster tail entree. Owner/chef Abraham greeted us, as is his usual gesture with his guests. The ambience of Salum is most inviting, which is why I like it so much.

A hidden gem in the Uptown district, in an off-the-beaten-path strip mall

By JSS949 |

If you can find it, you'll surely enjoy it! Dined last Tuesday night here and had a great experience. The food was excellent! We had the rack of lamb (a house specialty) and the sesame crusted opah (seasonal) for entrees, both excellent. And the goat cheese appetizer was terrific. The large open room was comfortable, the decor simple yet classy (my local Dallas friend says they call it "California style"), the service was very good, the wine list interesting, Chef Salum came out to check on us even. All in all, it was great, and I would most definitely return!

I ate lunch there recently and the food was very good. Great decor.

Excellent restaurant with attentive owner

By miami-getaway |

Visitied Dallas for a conference and stumbled upon Salum which is located in a very nice neighborhood. This is a relatively small personable restaurant. They took us in last minute despite being packed with people. Warm and soothing ambiance. Food was delicious...I loved the feta and roasted garlic appetizer! I also appreciated that the owner took great pride in greeting his customers. I watched him sweep up broken glass on the floor, look over all teh food in the open kitchen, and great each and every one of his diners. Great customer service especially nowadays! My only complaint is I am not a wine drinker but love a cocktail or two...however, there was no specialty cocktail menu....I can't be the only one who does not drink wine?? Besides that, would highly recommend this restaurant. It is on the trendy side in regards to dress code...similar to any large trendy city.

Gourmet food in an independently-owned continental restaurant

By Karen P |

We went to Salum during restaurant week and enjoyed a superb 3-course dinner. We ordered the Texas goat cheese, which was a delicious combination of soft cheese, olive oil, garlic, and crisp toasts that was rich and out of this world. I ordered trout, and it is hard to overstate how much it melts in the mouth! Served covered in a crispy, light breading, the flavor is buttery, and it tastes like they caught it fresh right before serving it! We tasted two desserts, a rich brownie with whipped cream and a delicious apple-flavored bread pudding. All of it was divinely delicious. The only down side: the dining room is noisy.

Wonderful dining experience

By rcjc75070 |

We went for our anniversary and everything was excellent. We have gone to several fine dining restaurants in the Dallas area and have been disappointed in the food and service. Salum is the best dining experience we have had overall. Salum is a restaurant that has a warm ambience, excellent food, and service. Another consideration is that the restaurant is not over-priced. A real jewel in the Dallas area.

You need to eat here

By Gary B |

Abraham Salum has been turning out fabulously prepared and beautifully presented since the day he opened. There is a great local following and for good reason. I think this is some of the best food in the city. The dining room is beautifully decorated with subtle luxury, the wine list is interesting and not stupidly overpriced, the staff is well trained and efficient and the Chef visits every diner that crosses the threshold to make sure they are satisfied with their meal. Abraham is a truly gracious restaurateur. So, as I said, you need to eat here.

Hard to find but pretty good

By geeper |

Tucked into a strip mall, its not the easiest place to find if you don't know what to look for, but turns out it is right on the SE corner of Fitzhugh and Cole. Went for KRLD restaurant week. Limited menu (as expected) for the preview weekend, but the food was very good. Scallops were tender and medium rare, airline chicken (ask why its called airline chicken) with a chimichurri sauce was nice, but the winner was the pork "shin". Braised pork shanks. Yum Yum Yum. Nice touch on dessert was that they have a set plate of two desserts, so no one has to choose. Pretty good place. Not sure how great a value the restaurant week menu is vs regular prices as we didnt look, but good stuff.

Nice Place with Interesting Food

By basil409 |

Went for a business lunch. It was very quiet and had a nice vibe. Looked like it would be a good evening bar scene (professionals). Lunch was excellent. I understand it changes weekly, but very consistent.

Perhaps it's best days are behind it? or was it just an off night?

By Patrick S |

My friends were quite excited to take me a hot-spot of theirs. But while it's a very cozy space in an ugly strip mall, I must say, it just didn't live up to the hype. I did note Salum won lots of awards some years back. I'm used to paying big-city prices, but I expect high quality and good service in return. For the price/quality ratio, it was just an average experience. $29 seemed high for the not-so-special tasting Swordfish with Fiddlehead ferns, Wine list has really good options, but the mark-up is quite steep. The bread was ordinary and bland. The Goat cheese appetizer was tasty, but nothing special. Service was not noteworthy.

Always terrific

By Kenneth T |

We’ve eaten at Salum many times and have never been disappointed. The menu changes often and there is always something creative to go along with more traditional choices. The food is always well prepared and presented, but never fussy. My lobster with summer vegetables was a delightful warm weather treat. Wine is reasonably priced with a good selection and the service is just right. Abraham Salum has managed to keep the same group of professionals for a long time and that makes a real difference in the overall experience. Highly recommended.

Super experience!

By alka_dallas |

We went for restaurant week and had a great experience. The food was overall great but my Mahi Mahi was wonderful! The green sauce was deeliciious. It was just sad that I had some left over and had asked my waitress to pack it to go but she forgot about it and I felt embarrassed in asking her so did not get to enjoy it the next day. Husband took the chicken which was good but not great. My crab cake appetizer was yum! Husbands goat cheese and elephant garlic was also fabulous! And to top it all the chocolate mousse was finger lickin' yumilicous! A friend had recommended their Manhattan and it did not disappoint! Potent and perfect! The owner Salum stopped by and chatted for several minutes and that added to the super gastronomical experience!

Great Place for Special Dinner

By Danmcneill |

We eat out about six times a week but have Salum on our short list for "Special occasion" dinners. It is a very nice place that you would not expect from looking at it. It is small and in a strip center. Do not be fooled it is wonderful. We have been there before but just recently went there for my birthday. Same awesome service. Same awesome meal. I would highly recommend this place.

The best in Dallas

By Karen D |

Theis place is full of surprises ! The food is so original and tasty . The service is great , all the staff is friendly and you can tell thEy just love to be around Chef Salum.

Worth the trip

By Claes B |

Accompanied by my wife and good friends we tried out Salum. We all live north of Dallas, so it was a bit of a drive. But well worth it. We tried out a couple of drinks in the bar. The bartender was very good and had a good selection of liquors. The food was outstanding, and I can really recomend the only standing item on the menu, lamb racks. Tasty, and juicy. The menu otherwise changes every month, so I guess we will be going back there again.

Consistently Excellent

By Steve C |

We chose to spend New Years Eve there this year. The food is some of the best in Dallas. The service is very good, and the wait staff seems to remain there. The wine list is okay. When we want a good meal, we always seem to go back to Salum.

Not to be missed when visiting Dallas

By sail4peace |

This restaurant is now at the top of my list when visiting Dallas. The decor, the service and particularly the menu created by chef Abraham Salum is fantastic: delicate, simple, with few ingredients, but full of flavor. My oldest son and I chose the rack of lamb, while my youngest son and my wife ordered the beef tenderloin, all cooked to perfection. We normally don't order dessert, but this time we wanted to extend our time at Salum and did so. We all ordered a different dessert so we got to try them all. What a treat!!! To top the experience we ordered some great Argentinian wine. Something worth mentioning is that they have an open kitchen, which allows you to see how efficient and attentive to detail the chefs are. Chef Salum even came to our table to confirm that everything was the way we wanted. Can't wait to visit again!!!

Very Nice Evening

By bettyh |

We were celebrating anniversaries and a birthday and decided to try this much recommended restaurant. The service was efficient, the owner stopped by to welcome us and the food was good. The atmosphere is very nice but the restaurant does become very noisy as it fills up. We each tried something different and all were prepared very well. The food did seem very rich and small French fries added to the top of the mussel appetizer were just too much. The lamb chops were tasty and well presented but lack a sauce that you would really want to have again. We would recommend the restaurant and would probably return but not rush back.

Great place to eat

By Mike B |

The scallops were fantastic! Our wait staff provided just the right amount of service without harrassing us but were always there to help when we needed something. She was very attentive to where we were from. Not sure if she looked up on the internet to see where our University was located but the only identifier was our clothing yet she made a point to know where that was located and wish us a safe trip back to our specific town.

Excellent

Excellent food , service, preparation, classy with tablecloths ! Interesting special drinks too, good wine selection

My Failsafe dining experience

By CordeyLash |

Great food, variety, service, and ambiance, which comes together to make the "experience"!!! The place I go when I want excellent food but to enjoy the company of my dining companion(s). The owner is traditionally there whether lunch or dinner and anchors his pursuit of excellence in personally welcoming you to his home away from home.

Squid pasta SUPERB

By elridder |

Flew into Love Field and friends took us to their favorite restaurant. Salum Outside not great inside very nice. Think Paris or Singapore We first had the truffle pate. Just outstanding. Silky smooth, flavorful, again think you are at a 3 star Michelin in France. Yet not the high prices. I had the squid ink seafood pasta. World class, tremendous, outstanding and all for $16. Big portion with crab claws, small scallops, mussels and shrimp that were cooked extraordinarily well. The other three with me had the seea bass which was very good but the pasta trumped the bass. Too full for desert. Service just so good as well. Do NOT miss this one!

Over the top

By lorihfrederick |

my husband and I have been to this restaurant at least 3 times and each time it has been awesome! Tonight was off the chart! Foie gras was delicious and we shared it. I had the lobster with puff pastry and my spouse had the sea scallops. Both were out of this world along with the bread pudding! The chef came by our table as usual and we told him he needed to be in New Orleans, that's how good his food is!

Great find

By Ezzat C |

First time dining at this restaurant. It is well designed, simple but elegant. The food is excellent and the Chef/ owner Abraham is talented and hospitable.

Gem, open late, service was impeccable, desserts were delicious, apps & salads awesome!

By billp25 |

First the great! 1. Service was outstanding. Attentive, knowledgeable, accomodating 2. appetizers were tasty, with some unusual twists and turns 3. salads were a solid hit, well prepared (although unfortunately not locally sourced or organic) 4. Desserts were a hit But a few misses: 1. The lobster risotto (double portion, as main course) was missing the lobster. For $30, they could have put some lobster in there. Maybe they forgot as we were the last table for the night. Or maybe someone was trying to save a few $$? 2. Wine list was a miss - populated with either vintages that were substandard (eg. 2015 Argentinian) or way too young (eg 2016, yes 2016! Pinot). 3. Nobody was certain of the origin of the cod for the fish and chips (Atlantic, pacific?; farm raised, etc).

Sister restaurant just as bad...

By SRF2010 |

Went to Komali for brunch and then tried the sister restaurant next door (Salum) for dinner. Speed of service was just as bad and we were a party of four. Ordering wine took forever and then ordering foodfood took even longer. I think our waitress forgot about us. Several other tables came and went while we waited and waited. The food was good but not for the price paid.

Consistent & Delicious

By Toby-Likes-Travel |

We were there for 2014 restaurant week, and it did not disappoint. This is one of my favorite restaurants. Their menu changes, but they keep favorites like rack of lamb and the goat's cheese/garlic starter is amazing. They always have fantastic flavorful entrees prepared perfectly. The service is consistently excellent and consistently friendly and elegant atmosphere. We'll be back.

top notch

one of our top five favorites. i had shrimp cobb salad and hubs had lamb pita. both excellent as was the service. can’t wait to return

Best Kept Secret in Dallas

By RetroBeto |

We have been dining at Salum since it opened twelve years ago. The menu is constantly changing, and the food is always excellent. We have never had a bad meal here. And the atmosphere is chic, the service impeccable, and Abraham is the perfect host. Great for special occasions or when you just want a great meal dining out.

Need to make it more often than a special occasion favorite!

By sheilaes |

We've only been to Salum about a half dozen times since it opened, but we have recommended to many who frequent more often and all agree this restaurant always has a great menu with tasty items. Almost always, if I and my husband are both home for a birthday, Salum is always mentioned. Being a vegetarian mostly, I will venture a look into the chicken dishes but more than likely head to the fish arena. On this last visit (for my birthday) I was very pleased with the Scottish Salmon and even happier when I could order cooked to my liking (non-translucent), although rarely the chef's...it turned out wonderful! My husband had one of the steak dishes. And as he believes he cooks the best steak, it's rare to hear him rave when we go out, but he did on this evening. For an opener we shared the elephant garlic and goat cheese starter and it is ALWAYS a sure bet...plus, if we both eat it, it equals out :-). Thanks again for another wonderful birthday meal! Hope to see you sooner~

Birthday meal

By Lou N |

Visited on Saturday for my brothers 60th birthday and had a fantastic meal. Food, drinks and service amazing and very attentive. I had a mixed starter which we shared including fried green tomatoes, goat cheese and baked elephant garlic and pate. Then I had lamb cutlets with mushroom bread pudding and jus. Served with green vegetables and jus so delicious. Pudding was 4 large squares of chocolate and cherry brownie which I had to take half of home as I was so full. My brother had scallops and Creme brûlée with a candle!! Made my favourite drink of margarita so I verywas happy! Thank you Mary for your attentive service, it was soooo worth the trip from the U.K. for this meal. We will be back x

Chic ambiance with food presentation to match

By travlinfoolintx |

We visited Salum during KRLD Restaurant Week so we ordered from a more limited special menu. For first course we both ordered the serrano caprese salad which was beautifully presented and good with both the pesto and balsamic dressings. Second course was cheese ravioli, which we shared. For main course, my husband had the swordfish on tabbouleh which proved to be a great mix of flavors. I had the a pork tenderloin over polenta and topped with a blueberry demi glace. The pork was excellent but I was a bit disappointed with the polenta and the blueberry sauce. Dessert was a caramel chocolate torte that was too rich too finish (but took it home!) and a wonderful bread pudding that we both devoured. The service was excellent and we loved being near the kitchen where we could watch the staff at work.

Early Warning Signs?

By MisterTravelFella |

My spouse and I love Salum and have been eating there regularly since our first visit more than 4 years ago. It has been the perfect combination of wonderful food, sexy atmosphere and excellent service. And we were impressed that founder and proprietor Abraham Salum was routinely there, in chef''s whites, in and out of the kitchen, weaving among tables to greet guests, and taking great care with the food that was coming to the tables. But lately we've been surprised and disappointed that the food quality has become markedly uneven. We had dinner last Friday night at Salum; the salads and cockstails were good, as usual, but the entrees were off. And I mean WAY off. My spouse had the grilled ahi tuna with baby bok choy in a sweet and sour fish sauce, and I had the grilled lobster tail with lentil-and-plantain stew. The tuna was just bad, no other way to put it; it's supposed to be grilled and served rare and warm, but it came to the table cold and coated with too-sweet sticky sauce that obscured everything else. What was doubly frustrating was that my spouse had had the tuna just the week before, and had pronounced it wonderful (and it was, then). My grilled lobster tail had been overcooked to a texture resembling a lightweight garden hose, and the lentil-and-plantain stew combination was not appealing. This, at a restaurant that every week features grilled lobster tail on the menu and that has been one of the few places in Dallas in my view that does it well. We know Abraham recently opened a second new restaurant nearby, and so perhaps his attention is diverted. If so, let's hope that it's temporary, and that Salum regains its ability to consistently turn out fine food. Otherwise, we--and probably many other loyal patrons--may find ourselves looking elsewhere.

The best!

By Bellasera |

I've been here for business lunches and for Valentine's Day dinner (thanks to my thoughtful husband). No matter the occasion, the food and the staff are just the best - I agree with earlier reviewers that say that both the food and service are exceptional. 100% recommend!

Superb Food & Elegant Decor

By Michelle W |

I had the Fried Green Tomatoes, Crabmeat, Roasted Red Pepper Remoulade for the appetizer and Chicken Cordon Bleu, Grilled Polenta Red Wine Demiglace for my meal, both were superb.

Dining of the Highest Standards; Professional Staff

By KPfeff |

I dined at Salum for a business lunch recently, and the experience was of the highest quality. The menu is of a broad enough variety to have numerous tempting options, but it isn't so varied that the restaurant struggles for an identity. I had the mussels and frites, which were better than anything I've ever had in Belgium, which is saying something. My colleague really enjoyed her salmon as well. The staff were all very friendly and professional. For a business lunch, this restaurant is ideal because it is not loud and the tables are spaced well; you can easily have a conversation without yelling, but at the same time you don't have to worry about being overheard.

For a special night out

By never2old2try |

This is certainly one of my most favorite restaurants and one I always visit when I'm in Dallas. The ambiance is elegant but very comfortable and the service is attentive but never overbearing. We celebrated my birthday there this year and it was an excellent choice. I had a perfectly braised short rib with a red wine reduction while my siblings ordered Lamb and a very silky salmon. Each dish was accompanied by fresh vegetables in perfect accord. We were all very happy with our meals and with the excellent wine list. I'd highly recommend Salum for a special night out.

Exceptional...let me add to the chorus of great ratings

By timfromtexas10 |

Salum is an incredible find. In an already crowded DFW restaurant scene this jewel shines very brightly indeed. Ambiance is warm and staff exceptionally (but not overly) friendly. But hey it’s all about the food. And the food sparkles. I started with the soup of the day which was cream of vegetable and it was wonderful. Then chose the grouper, a menu mainstay, and it was excellent, made even more amazing by sitting on a fennel potato casserole. My companion had the scallops and said they were among the very best she has ever had. Since she has lived in France, Austria, Germany and NYC I give great weight to her judgment. The list of dessert choices makes picking one extremely difficult. This restaurant is run Abraham the chef who will be sure to say hello to you and also keep an eye on things in the dining room. Our server Rachel was superb in attention and alert in her timing throughout the meal. This is a place that can develop a large following of regulars and those who want to make an impression. Highly recommended. My best meal in Dallas is a long time.

Still a Winner

By mariahbay |

Every Time a Pleasure. Unobtrusive, yet professional service, quiet environment and consistent quality. Probably our favorite spot for lunch in Dallas. Pate always good, mussels are still great.

Locals spot

By wick1979 |

Having eaten here with my family the other night. I can honestly tell you that locals rule. We requested a empty table along the wall were told it was reserved. Which it wasn't cause not one sat there till 2 hours after we arrived. Service itself was awful had to ask the bus boy to get additional rounds of drinks. The food overall is very nice definitely lived up to its rating on that area. After discussing the level of service with the GM Abraham they quickly made it right. I did not give them the excellent rating cause service was poor but they deserve the rating for quality of food and for Abraham being a absolute asset to there restaurant. Hats off to him for him alone I would return and recommend this location. Even though not deserved the waiter got his full tip.

Great Ambience

By Thomas K |

The weather was nice so outdoor seating was actually comfortable. The selections looked good and we enjoyed salads and tried each others entrees. Everything was delicious and the drinks and wine were great as well. We got too full to try dessert. The staff treated us like royalty and the european atmosphere ( quiet with tables close together ) was very enjoyable. We stayed 2 hours !

Great Saturday night meal.

By olympicoscar |

We had an excellent meal at Salum about two weeks ago. Elegant dining room and excellent and cheerful service. This is old fashioned food without the intrusion of chefs creating fusion food. Tuna Carpaccio appetizer was an excellent starter, although I could barely put down the warm tasty bread. Wife and I split a Caesar salad and it was one of the best I've ever had. The White Anchovy made it irresistible. I had an excellent Beef tenderloin and my wife had her favorite scallops. We polished both off. We split a warm bread pudding for dessert. An excellent Pinot Grigio accompanied the entire meal. We'll be back.

Great overall place

In a league of its own!!

By Steven C |

while on a recent trip to Dallas, I had the pleasure,AGAIN, to visit Salum. It truly is better every time I go there. The most amazing decor and atmosphere, perfect service, but THAT FOOD is the real star of the show. Mr Salum was also there, busily cooking, greeting guests, etc. It truly is my favorite place to dine in Dallas and I always make time to go every time I am there. Congratulations on a VERY FINE restaurant

Really Special

I've lived in Dallas for over 20 years, and I've been to many wonderful restaurants. Salum is one of the most memorable taste experiences I've had. Inventive and accessible food, a warm and modern interior, and great service. I highly recommend this place to local and visitor alike.

Very Disappointing - Save your money

By foodloverindallas |

We went to Salum tonight and we were extremely disappointed. The food was better than average with some nice highlights (foie gras). What was extremely disappointing was the service. We asked our waiter for change for a $10 so we could tip the complimentary valet. After paying $500 for 5 people, our waiter stated that the restaurant could not provide change. The excuse we received from our waiter was that the restaurant did not have a lot change, and we should get change ourselves from the valet. The manager also reiterated to us that the change for the valet that we requested was reserved for the next diner(s). Pretty pitiful after we just paid an 18% gratuity for lackluster service. In summary, please save your money and skip this restaurant. When management stops caring, it is time to move on.

One of the great chefs anywhere and he is always there!

By Diningoutwithdaphne |

If Abraham Salum had an identical twin who was also a chef we wouldn't be surprised! The secret to the success of this restaurant is no secret - the chef/owner is ever present both at his eponymous Salum and through the connecting kitchen next door to his other fine restaurant, the upscale Mexican one called Kamali. Moving through the tables warmly greeting guests, he misses nothing. Back to the open kitchen, he flambes one special order and supervises another. A culinary maestro. Salum presents an innovative, well balanced menu featuring creative selections that are original without being pretentious. My roast pork tenderloin with spiced pistachio crust was moist and tender to perfection accompanied by a candied beet root salad with buttermilk dressing. Our friends' Bay of Fundy salmon and Australian rack of lamb were also winners. The service was attentive but unobtrusive. Our server was also very familiar with the wine list and skilled at wine pairing. The only reason we couldn't give a perfect score was the noise problem. At times we were nearly shouting at each other to be heard. Consultation with a noise abatement expert is needed. Now. It can be fixed. But, when the Creme Brûlée de Jour is chocolat and devine, we'll let someone else worry about the noise problem and think about our return to Salum.

Great food, but work on the desert.

By larjay62 |

Nice find. Great food and attentive service. Had the bread pudding which was dry and the blueberries on the side were frozen. Definately needed some sauce and better preparation. Other than that, a delightful dinner.

I've only had good experiences at this restaurant

By ScriBobin |

We have joined friends twice at this restaurant and enjoyed it both times. Service is friendly and fine. Atmosphere is fun, and unpretentious. Food looked great and tasted great. No complaints. The location is kind of off-the-beaten track a bit even though it is technically in Uptown. It is worth it to hunt it down. A little gem that has not been discovered by the masses.

Five star cuisine, six star staff

By Alan B |

A truly wonderful restaurant with exceptional attention to food and service - comfortable and classy. Food is always expertly prepared, always interesting, and always delicious. Abraham Salum has created his own take on food, and it is uniquely wonderful. Service is the right combination of graciousness, friendliness, and professionalism without being intrusive. The menu changes monthly, although a few specialties of the house always remain on the list. The mussels are spectacular! And the prices are reasonable. There are many good restaurants in Dallas, but only a very few great restaurants, and this one is on the top of the list.

Great place and Food.

By jellymallow |

Went here for dinner with our friends Rich & Karole. Food was very good the flavour outstanding, met The owner Chef Salum very nice talkative person let us take a photo with my wife dispite the restaurant being very busy. Mary our waitress very helpful funny and really great service. Great no rush atmosphere had a lovely time here and would go no problem if we ever come to Dallas again. Thankyou all at Salum.

A bit disappointed

By Alan N |

We've enjoyed Salum a few times each year for the past several years. This time we were disappointed with the quality of the food. I started with a wedge salad with bleu cheese and tomatoes. The ingredients were balanced so it was good enough. My wife had the butternut squash soup, which was OK but was more of a cream of butternut soup and it lacked an element of texture or crunch, such as a crouton or some crisp bacon bits. It was good but certainly not exciting. My wife ordered the lobster "sarcophagus" which was really just a rectangle of thick puff pastry baked and then topped with some pieces of roasted lobster. Fair but not what you'd expect for $36. I had the rack of lamb, which consisted of a couple of double ribs that were coated and roasted. They seemed like they had been sitting in a warming oven for a while, and the "demi-glace" sauce was more like a slightly too salty gravy. It had a nice silken texture but did not taste like a true demi-glace. The service was good except for one 5 minute period where my glass of wine sat at the end of the service bar area as our server passed right by it 4 or 5 times. My wife had to ask the server to bring it to us once he finally revisited out table.

What a treat!!!!

By Marleygirl2014 |

This restaurant is incredible. Very nice feel inside. The food is delicious. Also, had the best Pinot Noir I have ever had. This place is a must.

Again a wonderful meal

By Allen727286 |

Visited Salum as a pre-theatre meal. I had great truffled pate and a truly wonderful squid ink pasta with seafood including shrimp, mussels, scallops. Probably the best seafood pasta dish I've ever had. Others had the sea bass and all thought the dish was exceptional. Wine choices were broad and by the glass options were plenty. One can certainly see why there are so many regulars at Salum. My wife and I has visited once before on an anniversary and enjoyed it, but this was even better. So many other options to try next time.

totally disappointing...we are now eating a Digiorno at home...‎ -

By kmdallas55 |

we had heard good things about Salum. The bartender service and appetizers were very good, even though the waiter didn't take our order until after we had waited 20 minutes and had to have another server get him for us. He was also not interested enough to focus on the ordering. He was very interested in watching the people being seated and the bread being delivered around us....sorry we were not amusing enough. The salad course was so-so, at best. if you like mozerella, don't order it here, as it had no flavor and a grainy consistency which was odd. Mealy is the word that comes to mind...like a bad apple. Not good. But it paled in comparison to the entrees. After my eating companion took a bite of his tenderloin and made a strange puckered face (too much salt), I tried my veal chop. I love veal. I shouldn't, but I do, animal rights people... sorry. they will be happy to know I could not eat it. Delta Airlines trumps this anytime. The chef apologized and comped the meal after hearing our disappointment. However, he did not fail to let us know (twice) that we were the only 2 of 136 meals served that registered complaints and it was Us, not Them. He obviously didn't try it...he would have sent it back too. Mozzerella from NY is only good the same day. Veal should not taste like chicken Lean Cuisine. And the customer is always right.

Excellent food

By Margaret C |

The chef here is great, and he's been putting out consistently great food for several years now. When I was there recently, I had a burger (not something I would usually order there, but decided to be different), and it was delicious! Cooked perfectly, beautifully seasoned, and perfect toppings with amazing choices. I hadn't had a burger this good in a long time.

Very good meal

By RCUrb |

We had a very nice anniversary meal despite the weird covid mask situation which makes it hard to understand the staff. The food was very good, some of the best lamb I have ever had, the dishes were slightly salty but other than that I had no complaints. This is a nice little neighborhood spot for locals.

Disappointed

By roxieb |

Maybe we just hit them on an off night, but we were fairly unimpressed with the food. It was presented beautifully, but the taste was nothing special. Prices were on the high side, so we definitely expected better. Service was good as was the atmosphere. I might give it another try in the future.

Delish!

By 81claire626 |

We went with a group of 14. Our size party is usually a little overwhelming & intimidating to the wait staff, but not at Salum's. They were very attentive- impressive service! I love the contemporary decor & light fixtures. The food was delicious and the wine list was super. The House Salad is wonderful! My husband had the Drum & I had the Fettucine w/ Duck. It was all good! The Creme Brulee' is to die for!

Outstanding Service; Average and Pricy Food

By Sam L |

First of all, the service was outstanding; our young waiter was exceptional, friendly, attentive and knowledgeable; I wish I found more like him at every restaurant at which I dined. The other staff were also friendly and courteous. While the food was good/average (and that is what three stars means after all), it was not memorable, except for the prices (which, considering the menu, are very high). The root vegetable soup and salad topped with a poached egg were the best of the bunch, but even they lacked the seasonings that would have brought out some of the best natural flavors. If a restaurant is going to serve trout with the skin side up, they need to make sure the skin is crispy and well seasoned; unfortunately, the trout failed on both accounts. The bourbon bread pudding, while tasty, lacked any taste whatsoever of bourbon and also lacked the texture of a traditional bread pudding; it was more of a butter cake than a bread pudding. Nothing on the menu is especially creative or exciting, but given the execution on some of the dishes, it is probably best if the kitchen adheres to more of the basics anyway. I will say that the food is a significant improvement over the last time that I ate at Salum a couple of years ago when most of the dishes were simply not good at all. At least this time, I can say that the food was good--but only good. I want to end on a positive note by stating once again that the service was outstanding.

The Best

By TheLearnedDoctor |

Salum is one of our very favorite restaurants in Dallas. The menu changes monthly, so it is always fun to go back and try new things. The restaurant is beautiful and chic ..... kind of a Four Seasons vibe. We are very comfortable at Salum. The main reason we keep returning is the way the owner/chef Abraham Salum and his staff make guests feel so comfortable. He is charming and very pleasant to speak with. Give it a try if you have never been there. You can count on a delicious, comfortable and relaxing meal. It has become our go to favorite date night spot.

Good night out

By Telkontar |

Went here recently for dinner with adult family members. Its odd because the restaurant looks upscale in the interior, but has average hamburgers on the menu. The salads were fine. The hamburger one family member had was good. The fish entree was fine, but the redfish portion seemed small for the price. The dish a third person had was not remotely memorable. The service was fine. The desert crumble was good. The food was not up to the promise of the interior decorating.

A special place

By Allen727286 |

The experience of Salum is that of a members club. And you are treated as a member. The waiters are long term employees; the menu has a tradition to it including introducing new items or at least new treatments on a monthly basis. The owner/chef will come by your table at some point and welcome you. And the food is outstanding. Eight years of business and its full. Pretty impressive.

Great meal

Modern contemporary decor and great food by Abraham Salum!! He is so creative with his presentation and cuisine. Always a pleasure to dine here! Glad he stays in the same location and sticks with what he does best!

Salum is Super

By Patty B |

We have been to almost all the good restaurants in Dallas and cannot say enought about Salum. Abraham Salum is one of the most wonderful chefs and restaurant owners we have ever met. He cares about his customers and takes time to stop at each table to make sure everything is great. His rack of lamb is delicious and not overpriced like we have found at so many other places. The mussels are large enough for two. I have tried his steak, fish, chicken. It's all delicious. It is also very comfortable, not noisy, tablecloths on every table, great chairs. Also, a staff that knows what they are doing. This is getting harder and harder to find for some reason. We have recently moved and I must say this is the only restaurant I will miss. The only thing I will miss more is Abraham. He is wonderful in every way.

Always an interesting menu

By Andy A |

I've now been to Salum twice. Once about a year ago for lunch and just recently for a client dinner. Both times the menu was interesting and diverse, the food very well prepared and the service excellent.

What a surprise!

By enniscs |

Salum is a surprise because from the outside its small strip mall location gives no hint of the warm, inviting atmosphere inside. The service is impeccable, but not stuffy. My sister and I couldn't decide between two entrees. We ordered both and asked the waitress to decide who should get which one. Her knowledge of the menu and joking manner with us enhanced our enjoyment of the meal. Of course we tasted each other's entree, both of which were delicious.

Always wonderful

By Patty B |

We could not wait to get back to Salum and have Abraham 's wonderful dishes. Of course he was there and came right over to say "hello". As I have said in my previous review his rack of lamb is the best. This time we tried the pasta. We like to sit where we can see the chefs at work and we saw them plating up this fabulous looking pasta and shrimp. It was spectacular. This is a place you could go over and over and consistently have a great time. I agree with Margaret C about the burger. We have had it for lunch and it too is great. Lunch, dinner and Abraham who could ask for more!!

Usually Great but Disappointed this Time!

By OakCliffDallas |

Great service but the food has been lacking the last two times I dined there. Two of my guests had the swordfish which was very fishy and really did not have a pleasing taste at all. I had the Buffalo ribeye and was told it was very lean and excellent. It came out grisly and was difficult to cut through. I also wish they would change their menu offerings more often since it is a very limited. The menu has been almost identical over the past five months. That night they also did not even have a special. Why not?

What a find

By jpatter1 |

Salum has been there for 12 years, but we just found it. Great atmosphere, low noise level, attentive service and wonderful food. The bartender is special; customized our cocktails for our taste. We had mussels that were wonderful. Cod entree was the best we have had. I had a spicy chicken dish that was a little hot and a little tough, but good. The crumble dessert was delicious, and the bread pudding to-die-for! Chef seated and served and gave advice, making it a special night.

Disappointing & not up to par, I won't be back

By pachanza |

Sorry, but I beg to differ from many other reviews here. My brother and I took our elderly parents to Salum this past Saturday night to celebrate their 56th wedding anniversary as we had heard good reports about it. We arrived on time for our reservation and were seated. We then sat for about 20 minutes waiting for our server to reappear and take our order. After that we waited 1 hour 20 minutes for the food to arrive. The atmosphere was not pleasant as there were hard surfaces everywhere (I'm an architect) and the place was extremely loud and noisy. We ended up almost shouting at each other across our table in order to be heard. My dad wears hearing aids and he sat there for most of the evening unable to follow conversations because the noise level was so high. When the food finally arrived it was acceptable but the evening had been spoiled by then. We then ordered desert and coffee, and the coffee finally arrived about ten minutes after we had finished our desert so we declined it. For the price I expect top notch service and a quality ambience, Salum had neither. We were all happy to leave and will not be going back.

Incredible Food, beautiful restaurant, strange service

By ConradtheBonVivant |

The mussels with pommes frites in beer broth are amazing; I crave this dish. The mussels are so fresh and flavorful, the pommes frites are very thin and crispy and the aioli is the perfect complement. We also had the rack of lamb and a unique Ossobucco which had rich gravy instead of the usual tomato based sauce. We all enjoyed everything. The service was a little stiff and awkward, but got the job done. Definitely get a reservation. We made reservations a week in advance for Saturday night and the place was completely packed.

One of the top restaurants anywhere. Yes it's top shelf, but ALL the preparations are top shelf. Abraham still over sees everything and waits tables greets guest, serves drink s. Do your self a treat. Visit this place.. Often!

5 stars across the board!

We took my mother there for her birthday dinner. She is very particular about food, atmosphere, service, well, most everything. We had requested a quiet table and were seated not far from a large group celebrating something and they took up 2 huge tables. The waitress assured us there would not be a problem, and amazingly, there was no excess noise. Very effective acoustics in this beautiful restaurant. (Do not miss taking a look at the lamp on the hostess stand.) The wine list is short but had interesting wines. The price is within normal limits for restaurants (which we calculate to be 2x retail.) We understand from the waitress that the wine list is fluent and often changes. We ordered a vintage champagne and the birthday girl ordered a martini made with Plymouth gin, not often found these days. But, the bartender made her a "fantastic" Plymouth martini! The menu is rather short, but had a variety of interesting dishes. The Caesar salads were, in my opinion, a bit too large and a touch over dressed, but included tasty parmesan chips. My husband chose two appetizers rather than a main course. The seared foie gras, 2 lovely slices were so tender they "melted" he said and mussels steamed in Chimay beer, topped with light, crispy shoestring potatoes, also perfect! My beef tenderloin with the fig, ancho, blalsamic reduction was superb! I am a steak snob, and this was absolutely top shelf beef and prepared perfectly! My mom ordered the rack of lamb with this incredible mushroom bread pudding. She declared it to be some of the best food she had ever had in a restaurant, and this is the ultimate compliment! We shared the creme brulee du jour, which that night was made with Godiva chocolate. It was so creamy and so delicious, that we wished we had not opted to share. They topped the dessert with a small candle for the birthday, but mercifully did not sing. Topping a perfect evening were the products of the espresso machine...ahhh! Mr Salum came out to chat with us and he clearly is very interested in pleasing his clients. So if you find yourself in Dallas, make the effort to dine at Salum! Truly a 5 star experience!

I almost hate to review restaurants during "Restaurant Week"....

By Greg C |

....because it must be very difficult for a restaurant to execute at the top of their game during such a helter-skelter service period, including I'd guess, some diners not accustomed to eating at really nice places. That said, I feel that candor is owed, and the positive press surrounding this place will probably squash any negativity in my review. Nobody in our party of 4 had eaten here previously. As a regular reader of D Magazine's and Scott Reitz's reviews (the latter of "Dallas Observer" fame), I came in predisposed to expect the best, with expectations tempered slightly because of Restaurant Week. Expectations were generally met, but a bit of inconsistency in kitchen execution can be a killer in such a hyper-competitive environment for eateries like Dallas. We had the 4th course certificates from Central Market, and the 4th course, a well conceived salmon tartar, well frankly, was fishy, that is to say, it just didn't taste that fresh. Killer of course on a raw fish course. Those who had the grilled sea bass option for their 2nd course, were also underwhelmed. Not sure if it the problems with seafood had to do with procurement or kitchen practices, but the result as I said was underwhelming at best. The homemade taglietelle (or was it papardelle?) was quite excellent for those of us who went that route. The wine prices are quite reasonable (Rombauer chard for $60, and a Frank Family red zin for $65) by restaurant standards here in Dallas. The service was probably marred slightly by the challenges presented by restaurant week, which is a lot easier to give a pass than the fishy fish. The owner (namesake for the establishment) was very attentive in the dining room, and is a great face of the dining room.

Best in Dallas

FAB!!!! As Dallas grows evolves, so does the food. Komali is as good as it gets. AWESOME!!!!

Abraham Salum's Restaurant is a Must in Dallas

By phd2 |

This is one of two restaurants owned and run by Abraham Salum. The cooking here is very good indeed and the restaurant is frequently full so make sure you book. The last time I visited I had elephant garlic with goats cheese, where you are also given thinly sliced and toasted baguette to dip and spread (actually I have this every time) and the moules. I find the starters are usually better than the main courses but that is the same pretty well everywhere. The food can be very rich, so be careful what you choose. This is a must if you visit Dallas.

Great everything!!!

Wooooow!!! The beef culotte excellent, the mules great, fish and chips... The place is very nice, open area, friendly service, etc...

Fantastic Restaurant and Service

By meeatlots |

Really enjoyed the past two visits to Salum. I happened to go at the end of April and then was pleasantly surprised to find that in May, the menu had changed. Turns out they do that every month! It's really a pleasure to have different choices each month. Service was spot on, not too obtrusive..but the server clearly was interested in ensuring we enjoyed our meal. Abraham, the owner and executive chef meets most of the customers at the door, and always surfs the tables to make sure everyone is happy. After our amazing dinner we sat at the bar a while and enjoyed conversation with LeeAnn. Don't skip an opportunity to visit Salum!

Hidden jewel

By Velena M |

The restaurant is in a strip mall type building, but only three or four businesses. The restaurant is very small, but it has an open kitchen and a small bar area. The menu changes monthly but there are a couple of staples. The food was good and everyone enjoyed themselves. The restaurant is on my list to go back with my husband for a quiet romantic dinner. I have also told some friends about it so they can have a new place to go with their significant other.

A hidden gem...

The service is outstanding, food is delicious and well presented, served quickly, very professional and convenient. I absolutely recommend this place. Not inexpensive, but you get what you pay for here. By the way, they have the best bread pudding in town!

If you eat out at only one place this year, make it Salum!

By TravelB |

Salums was possibly the best meal I have ever had! I ordered the rack of lamb (which I have never even had before) and a caprese salad. They were delicious. The ambiance and decor makes for a great evening out. The staff is super friendly and service is excellent. This is a hidden gem and a don't miss for the Dallas restaurant scene.

Never a disappointment!

By Thom S |

Went last week (during the week) &, as usual, Abraham & his team delivered! The food was excellent & Andrea(our server) was delightful, funny & attentive ( just right level-no hovering). For those of you who've never dined at Salum, Abraham Salum, the owner/chef, was at Parigi (which, BTW, has disappointed lately), before striking out on his own. Salum is the choice for a wonderful meal, lovely service & trendy surroundings. NOTE-The perimeter mirrors make for discreet "people watching"!!haha. Please keep up the great work & thanks

Great Experience

By KimKDallas |

Dined at Salum for the first time as part of a group of 8. Overall, we couldn't have been more pleased. Service was prompt and attentive -- glasses never went dry before they were refilled or another was offered. Wine options were really nice -- even by the glass. Most of the table ordered soups or salads. Their house salad was very nice -- the pecans really set it off. I ordered the scallops. Portion was right after the big salad, but I could see where some would think it was small. Taste, Texture and presentation were awesome. Also tried the seabass and the lamb from those around me and all were excellent. It was Saturday night and the restaurant was packed at 8. It's small, so it didn't get too noisy and definitely quieted down as the evening progressed. I'd definitely go back!

Salute to Salum!

Smaller restaurant, very nicely decorated...simple and elegant. The staff is friendly and professional. The menu is interesting and uses lots of fresh seasonal ingredients so (I'm told) it's always rich with an ever changing selection of dishes. The food was attractively presented and just scrumptious. The stuffed zucchini flowers (Stuffed Squash Blossoms, Cotija Cheese, Shrimp and (Poblano Peppers with Cilantro Vinaigrette) were filled with a myriad of ingredients which just filled your mouth with flavor. The appetizer (Tomato, Fresh Mozzarella, Serrano Ham) was presented with ripe, sweet, dark red tomatoes, certainly a treat at this time of year. The entree was Pan Roasted Halibut, Onions, Potatoes, Tomatoes and Baby Artichokes in Rosemary Wine Broth.....it was so good, I asked for a soup spoon to capture some of the broth with the fish and vegetables....a wow dish. I also greatly appreciated the wine list...it was filled with really interesting selections, almost all under $100...not your typical everyday names...someone went to a lot of trouble to put this wine list together. We had a very enjoyable Premier Cru Santenay with dinner. Terrific place.

WONDERFULLY SURPRISED

By Kipp W |

We were guests and expected a nice meal... had chicken, not wanting anything too heavy... Well.... the chicken was Incredible... never had chicken this incredible ever!! I tasted the other dishes (nearby) and they too were wonderful... but for all, the chicken ruled the night. Had their margarita (3) also incredibly good... I will look forward to a return visit. On the downside.... loud... but completely overlooked since the food was so terrific.

Great Dinner!

Wonderful fresh menu. Everything we ordered was perfect! It was SO GOOD! The service was also friendly, helpful and just right. A great night out for two tired parents! Relaxing, not loud, good food - Thank you!

Pretty good but memory of last visit says it's slipped a bit

By gordotx |

Came here recently for a Sat evening dinner. The staff is top notch and no complaints there. The menu seemed a little short, but guess that's how they keep it fresh. Was hoping for scallops but they were not on the menu. I ordered the mussels as an entrée and immediately regretted it. They tasted of kerosene (?) and not too fresh. They weren't bad, just not good but I ate most of them. The pile of fried onion strings on top were good but mostly got in the way. We got pate for the table and it was OK, not great. Also got the goat cheese and monster garlic. Cheese was good, garlic not. Wife got the fresh fish (can't remember which type, maybe monkfish) and she said it was fine. Don't recall what friends ordered but they seemed satisfied. I remember Salum being much better on a previous visit years back. This trip was lacking in something, and at these prices they need to rediscover it.

Great place for a birthday!

By KayBee89 |

We had a ladies lunch for a friends birthday. The entire staff was friendly and worked exceptionally well for our large group. At lunch it was very efficient with excellent food. Perfect place for a group that actually wants to visit with everyone. Food is delicious for any type of meal! Nice intimate environment.

Salum is consistent and good

By Sebluemoon |

I love to eat here. The lunch is superb and the menu changes often. They have the best mussels in Dallas - or at least I haven't eaten any better. They come with a healthy portion of pommes frites on top. perfection!! My most recent visit I had the Portobello tacos which was fun and different.

FANTASTIC

By TheLearnedDoctor |

This was our first visit to Salum. The restaurant is very pretty, with light colors, and beautiful light fixtures. The chairs are comfortable, and the tables are spaced well for the smaller size of the restaurant. There is a complimentary valet right out front. Our server was professional and knowledgeable. He recommended certain things and we loved them all. The majority of the entrees on the menu change each month, along with one special salad and appetizer each month. Our salads were outrageous. We want to return before the end of the month to order two of the salads as an entrée before it falls off the menu at the beginning of next month. The wine list was good - the prices were about 150% retail rather than the 200% markup you usually see in restaurants. The owner Abraham is very personable and likeable, it is obvious that he works hard to make sure everything runs smoothly ... helping in the kitchen, at the front door, and everywhere in between. I highly recommend this restaurant, we had a wonderful experience.

Good food, but at a price

By Pauak |

We want because I craved some elaborate contemporary food, and I wasn't disappointed. The Foie gras as an appetizer was excellent, but kind of small to share. The Lamb was fantastic, the sauce and vegetables combined extremely well. The snapper was very tasty, but the bisque (sauce) was rather dull and did not add anything to the plate. Attention: the plates are small! The waiter was average and kept bumping my wife's chair over and over. The service was quick and efective, though. The restaurant is small and dark with now streetview. But the kitchen and bar is right there so at least there is something to look at. Drawback? The price. Waaaaay too pricy for what you get. The tab for two ends over 100 bucks easily, and I thinks it is not worth that much. For 25% lower price I'd go there again; not so sure that I may with the actual pricing.

Best meal I've had in Dallas

By mrsirin |

After last night's mediocre meal at Avanti, tonight was a relief. Although located in a typical Dallas strip shopping center, Salum's interior can make you forget the city's depressing landscape. The food was imaginative, well prepared and presented, and capably served. Salum has a good selection of wine by the glass, and the desserts were as good as the main course. I would recommend this place for people who are used to fine dining at reasonable prices.

Come for the delicious food and ignore the plain exterior

By David W |

My visit was part of a company event where we rented out the restaurant for the evening. The staff was attentive and the food was excellent. The Texas Goat Cheese was delicious followed by a tasty salad and a fantastic Rack of Lamb. The interior is a bit nicer than the exterior. Bathroom was clean. Overall, worth a drive in from the suburbs for a nice dinner out!

Warm welcome and excellent food

By Robert L |

We dined at this unusual location in a strip mall because of a friend's recommendation. The hostess was the weakest link in an otherwise outstanding evening. She couldn't figure out where to seat us after we turned down a two top at the entrance (we had had reservations for a week). Our waiter was welcoming and professional. I had a marvelous martini to start the evening. The bread was very good, and my wife's house salad was truly excellent. My scallop main was perhaps the best scallop course I've ever had. The dessert tart was marvelous. The chef/owner is a great personality and greeted diners, many of whom were obvious regulars, very warmly. We were newcomers, and he visited our table twice. We will certainly return!

The right amount of upscale for a business neeting

By Gina M |

The atmosphere for a business meeting is great. No loud music piped in and they were willing to accommodate a large party for dinner. The food was excellent and the portions are a good size. I had the lamb and it was excellent. There is good selection for wine by the bottle, the only negative I can say is it would be great if they had more choose from by the glass. Other than that the service was good and food was delicious!!
