Wonderful neighborhood Italian spot

By April |

My parents live in Marine Park and often when my husband and I visit them we eat at Salvi's. There are a number of reasons we go back: 1. we really like the food. It is classic Italian American a notch above the rest; we're never disappointed, 2. the owner and staff are extremely kind, 3. the decor and atmosphere are very nice - special without being stuffy, 4. they have a wonderful pianist who plays on weekends (but not so loudly that we can't easily hold a conversation), and 5. the prices are absolutely fair. Bottom line if you're looking for a lovely, reliable dining experience, Salvi's is a sure bet.

Welcome back

Because of frequent travels & spending time elsewhere, it has been several years since we had been here. We had been regulars but were unsure if we would be remembered. Not to worry, we were greeted as if we had never left & our favorite waiter had our favorite table waiting. The service was warm & friendly but what about the food. Again ,no worries. This review encompasses two visits. During the first I had a zuppa de clams as an appetizer. Not on the menu but available if requested. It was excellent the clams were wonderfully fresh & immersed in a red sauce that is unmatched. My wife had the baked clams which were also very good. Our appetizer on the second visit was Misto Caldo, a variety of items for two people. Good but filling. For our main courses on the first visit I had branzino filet which is a mild flavored fish which was served in a light garlic sauce. My wife had the pappardelle with porcini which is a pasta dish in a cream type sauce well flavored by the mushrooms. The second time around it was rack of lamb for me & veal for my wife. The lamb was a special served with vinegar peppers. I was dubious until I tasted it. The sweetness of the lamb was offset by the tang of the peppers. Great dish. If you have room after dinner their many desserts are also recommended.

We visit Salvi's quite often and even have our family Easter dinner here. We have always received the best service and everything we have ever tried has been over the top. We enjoy this restaurant tremendously.

Best Neighborhood Italian Restaurant

By adventurousseniors |

I've lived in Marine Park many years and always come back to Salvi when I want a pleasant atmosphere, good service and excellent food. It's definitely a cut above the rest of the Italian restaurants in the area. I like going on Friday night when they have a lobster special and a pianist who plays songs from the American songbook, as well as jazz tunes. In addition to a lovely meal, we're treated to a fruit platter, which is a generous gesture on the part of the management. Several years ago, we made a small wedding reception at Salvi. All of our Italian guests raved about the food!

Outstanding Food and Service

By BillSusF |

As a former Brooklynite long removed, I started going to this restaurant in June of last year when my Dad was ill. Food was always excellent and piping hot. Manny does a great job of running the place. After we buried my Dad, we had a small get together at the restaurant and everyone loved the food. I have been back there several times since during my trips to Brooklyn while dealing with family matters. Highly recommend it.

Wonderful Food, Service, And Atmosphere

By Scott F |

My family and I have dined at Salvi’s for many years, and everyone always enjoys the delicious Italian food and very relaxed atmosphere. The service is great, and the prices are extremely reasonable, especially since the quality of the food is excellent and the portions are filling. In addition, the presentation of the food is wonderful, and the waiters are very attentive without being pushy. Recently, we celebrated Dad’s special birthday party, and where else, but at Salvi’s. Jerry, the owner, along with the waiters and other staff members did an awesome job, and the party was truly a huge success. We chose to have the party menu which turned out perfect for the 40 of us. The appetizers were all delicious, and everyone enjoyed the main courses, and desserts. We also arranged to have the piano player for the entire duration of the party, and the festive music made the celebration even more special. Five Stars Across The Board!!!

You Will Not Be Disappointed

I just came from eating at this restaurant and it was really good. I had the snapper with clams and mussels. My husband had pasta and salmon. Appetizers - salad for him and I had the spinach and parmesan cheese soup. The waiter spoke Italian (and English of course). The soup was absolutely delicious. The fish was in a wine and fresh tomato sauce with just the right amount of herbs and seasonings. Although the restaurant has an old look to it, the food and ambience more than make up for it. Tonight (Friday) they had a piano player. I play the piano and I can tell you this man was excellent. My husband enjoyed chocolate mousse cake for dessert and I had a cappuccino. I would say if I had a choice between Michael's and Salvi's I would choose Salvi's as the food taste more authentic. Both restaurants are excellent but I enjoyed everything I had at Salvis. With one glass of wine and all the above the bill came to $99.00 without tip. If you are on a budget pass on the appetizers, soda, wine and dessert and you will have a very affordable meal. Or have soup and dessert.

Long standing patron

Salvi is a wonderful place to eat. great service, quality food. The answered questions below are not able to do it justice. Our visits over the years have been couples, family, friends, business and solo! The quality and service are the same whether you "do lunch" or have dinner. As I mentioned we have been going for years. Don't be scared away by the short menu, there are specials every evening and if your favorite dish isn't on the menu, ask, they are more than willing to accommodate you if they able. Gluten free? let them know and they will point you in the proper directions.(their GF pasta is delicious!) ENJOY!

Neighborhood Italian Restaurant

By SuzyQu15 |

Started off with complimentary bruschetta, which was very good. Service was attentive, ambiance was old school neighborhood restaurant. Pasta in vodka sauce was very well prepared, and the veal entrees, served with vegetables and potato croquettes, were very tasty. Entrees, however, were overpriced, in my opinion. Parking is on the street.

Sumptuous authentic Italian dining

Salvi Restaurant in Brooklyn New York should be one of any visitor's first choice for authentic Italian dining. From tastefully simple but elegant decor with well pitched live piano music, the menu is quite varied and the food is extremely tasty with great presentation. All of this is enhanced by the service, from being greeted on entry by the owner and the maitre de to the close attentiveness during dining complete the total package offered by this restaurant, what any traveller desires for dining out in NY.

Classic Brooklyn Italian. Go.

This was an excellent example of delicious Brooklyn Italian food, with some of the best, most perfectly cooked calamari on the face of planet earth.

Wonderful atmosphere

By NYGirl13 |

The family and I ate dinner there and it did not disappoint. The restaurant is small but cozy. They have a wonderful piano player who seranades the diners during the evening. The staff is friendly and very attentive. The appetizers were so lage that we could barely eat dinner. Most of us ended up bring home a portion of our dinner. Their desserts are also great. You will not regret going here to eat.

Outstanding service, food, and ambiance!

By Thomas D |

I have traveled around almost the entire Northeastern part of the United States. I only dine out in Italian restaurants. There is absolutely no place like Salvi's. The food, service, ambiance, cleanliness, and constantly changing dinner specials, makes this restaurant stand out, and will always be number one in my eyes! No matter how many Italian restaurants, I dine at, there is simply no comparison. The food is not overly heavy, and you are treated like royalty in this hidden gem of a restaurant. If you are looking to celebrate a special birthday, anniversary, or just get out for the evening; Salvi's is the place to be! I have so many beautiful memories of family dinners here, and I am forever grateful to the Salvi's staff for perfecting every aspect of this fine dining establishment.

Baby shower

By Carole C. |

Not only is Salvi a great place to have dinner, it's also a great place to have a party. We recently had my daughter's baby shower there, & they were most gracious & helpful. They made room for all the gifts, let her friends decorate & kept a calm & helpful demeanor throughout. Service was great, as always, & all the guests remarked about how delicious the food was. Thank you, Jerry.

Superb Italian cooking, beautiful atmosphere

By Cheryl Z |

While there is certainly no shortage of Italian food in Brooklyn, you haven't experienced great Italian cooking until you visit Salvi Restaurant. The food always presents with rich, fabulous flavors and aromas. The food preparation is impeccable. The service is as professional as we've experienced anywhere. And by the way, they give a good pour in the cocktail department.

Best Restaurant in all of Brooklyn

The food is always fantastic and the staff is the best. They make you feel like family and if you want a party lunch or dinner this is definitely the place to be.

Awesome as usual

Any time I dine at SALVI I am never disappointed. Food is always top notched. Servers are professional and friendly and very accommodating. If you do not see it on the menu just ask. Weekends there is a piano player which makes for a relaxing dinner.

One of the Best

I've been going to Salvi for decades now and I still rate it as one of the best Italian restaurants EVER! I just celebrated by birthday there and the staff, ambiance and cuisine is perfectly excellent! It made my special day!

Outstanding Italian food within a charming restaurant!

By Thomas D |

My family, and I, have been dining at Salvi's since it opened twenty years ago. This restaurant is an all time favorite! The food, service, cleanliness, decor, piano player, and waitering staff have made each and every dining visit ever so memorable! My family also had numerous celebrations here. The food is delicious, and made in a light manner, so you do not feel like you have eaten fattening food. Salvi's also has numerous specials, which are constantly being varied. I simply can't think of a better place to create family memories than at Salvis. Manny, the waiter, is always so pleasant, and Jerry, the owner, always finds the time to greet his customers, with a warm smile. This indeed is more than a place to eat, it is a unique dining establishment! Friday evenings is seafood night! Give this restaurant a try, and you too, will become a regular! Tom D.

Great food

By jane d |

We went to Salvi with family. We had Calamari and hot antipasto for appetizers. The Calamari melted in my mouth .It is the best I had. Hot antipasta was just delicious. We also had asparagus wrapped with mozzarella roasted pepper and prosciutto from the special of the day. It was out of this world. The atmosphere in Salvi is also nice. They have a piano player and friendly atmosphere. The waiters and the service is excellent.

The atmosphere at Salvi's is quaint, classy, and friendly and the food is very satisfying. My son and I are vegetarians but my sister isn't and we have all enjoyed great meals at Salvi's. They are very accommodating.

Family Event

By markbN1062UT |

We were made to feel very welcome from the moment we walked in. Very family friendly, great appetizers and main courses. Service crisp and professional, manager/host on top of things. All of our party (11 people) were satisfied; no easy accomplishment with our family. From the great bread which came with the food through coffee and desert we felt that Salvi's lived up to it's reputation. Veal and chicken lightly dusted with coating and pan sautéed with a deft hand. Piano player was an added bonus. We will go back with pleasure.

New Year Eve Dinner

Would have preferred the regular menu. As it was a New Years Eve special menu it was more limited in choices.

Sorry to have to be the one...

...but my dinner at Salvi was really not so hot. I ate there on a chilly November Friday evening with a friend, after we both arrived at this choice of restaurant for dinner--she lives in Brooklyn and had enjoyed eating there before, and I was visiting from out-of-state and had read about it online. I ordered the Linguine Sirena (pasta with porcini mushrooms, calamari, and shrimp with white wine, garlic, and oil) which was comprised of ingredients that I love in a preparation that sounded both straightforward and wonderful. Sadly, the seafood was seriously overcooked--the calamari almost rubbery and the shrimp pretty dry. I hesitated, but sent it back in the hopes that I would actually enjoy my dinner. The waiter unenthusiastically replaced it for farfalle with salmon in a pink vodka sauce, which took just over 20 minutes to receive. Of course, by that time my friend was essentially finished with her dinner. The overly generous vodka sauce was tasty but drowned the dish, and I hardly ate it. And the waiter, who had complained of having a bad cold (and you're sharing that as you serve me my food?!?), uttered barely a word of apology and no one else spoke to us about the mishap. Were it not for the very friendly local patrons socializing all around us who included us in their banter, the experience would have been a bust...but they were charmingly colorful and adorable and significantly helped redeem the experience of eating at the renowned Salvi.

Excellence!!!!!!!!!!

By Kevin H |

Gerry greets you @ the door and leads you to a table. Salvi is an intimate restaurant, not too big nor too small. Food is excellent, portions are huge. Our waiter Manuel (Mannny) is personable and never misses a beat when describing the specials (how he remembers all the details is amazing). Salvi is one of Brooklyn's gems. Additionally, Gerry opens on Mondays when most other restaurants are closed.

Top notch as always.

I've been dining as salvi restaurant since I'm a youngster. Has to be a good 15 to 20 years. Time after time they have a very clean pure Italian dining experience. Everything from the bread to dessert is phenomenal. There's nothing on the menu that isn't truly delicious. The service is amazing too. The waiters there are like family and treat you as such. Can't wait to go back next week.

Savory Italian Food with ambiance

By Kevin H |

The owner (Gerry) always greets you @ the door with a friendly "hello." The food is delicious; the portions huge and the ambiance is the best. Usually, the house pianist plays softly in the background. Salvi is not too big and not too small, hence the mention of ambiance.

Charming authentic Italian restaurant

By Peter A |

I have been going to Salvi since it opened 25 years ago. Never disappoints. Food is very good, constantly consistent. Always interesting specials and wonderful desserts, some made on premises. The owner/host Jerry is a professional and really cares about his customers. You can see him personally greet and accompany them to their favorite tables. A must if you are looking for good Italian food in this section of Brooklyn!

A relaxing restaurant experience

By Eric S |

Visited Salvi's a few days ago, and as usual found the service to be gracious and gently attentive with delicious fresh food. Salads are tasty and never over dressed and sauces of all kinds, whether for pasta, meat , or fish, are used properly without overpowering the pasta or protein. I've been going there for many many years and rarely have been disappointed. A GREAT spot for family gettogethers. The only real negative is the rarity of having some new, innovative dishes on the menu or as specials. A "bit" of Williamsburg cuisine would definitely be a plus.
