We often cater lunch from Sammy's and it is the office favorite. Wish that I could make brisket that good!!

This is a old-school BBQ joint on Leonard Street in downtown. They have a fair sized indoor seating and some outside tables as well. You can do take-away as well. Opening hours are 11am to 3pm (lunch only), closed on Sundays. Had a very good lunch here recently. The chopped beef sandwich was delicious, sides of okra, potato casserole and beans were great. Ended up taking home a large order of brisket, sausage and more sides for a larger group of friends for the evening. Everyone loved the meal. Two Sammy's meals in one day and was left wanting more. Would gladly return based on this experience.

This popular, rustic spot is convenient to downtown. We had a great impression from the start, when the friendly, helpful staff took pity on us and let us in out of the rain before opening. It quickly began filling up with locals. My guys enjoyed their brisket and turkey, and even this non-meat eater loved the side dishes, especially the zucchini casserole. Authentic and delicious barbeque!

Sammy's has been a Dallas institution for eons. Great pork and beef barbecue and if you don't try the chicken, you are missing a great dish. My only complaint is that the sauce could have been hot. The fried okra and french fries are excellent.

For the life of me, I can't understand why Sammy's has so many stellar reviews, although many of them seem to focus on the sides rather than the meat. I wanted to get a good feel for their abilities, so I ordered a 3 Meat Combo Plate: smoked sausage, ribs, and sliced brisket with potato salad and bbq beans on the side. Their potato salad is mayo-based, rather than mustard. I found lots of crunch from the veggies, but almost no flavor at all. The bbq beans tasted more like pinto beans and had a distinct "from the can" taste that tends to stem from preservatives. I don't know how their other sides measure up, but these weren't worthy of more than a one-bite sampling. I got a fairly decent helping of smoked sausage, but it looked store-bought. It was fairly monochrome and had no visible black pepper or other spices. In fact, the best way to describe it is to say that it tasted like a hotdog. The barbecue sauce certainly helped, but only as much as it helps to add ketchup to a frozen hamburger patty. The brisket looked pretty gray and lifeless on the plate, and it tasted about the same. I noticed a slight red smokey hue on the edges, but I couldn't find the smokey flavor anywhere. The only thing that kept it from being completely dried out was the razor-thin slicing. I left more than half of it on the plate. I saved my ribs for last, and they were just as disappointing as the first two meats: bland and almost devoid of flavor. The meat fell apart as soon as I picked up my first rib, suggesting that they were completely overcooked. The ribs themselves were small, sad, and pitiful. Of the three ribs that came with my combo, I didn't have a rib bone longer than an inch and a half. This was a very cheap cut of meat. I struggled to find one positive thing to say about this place, but honestly the only thing I enjoyed about the meal was my glass of lemonade. This kind of bland, tasteless "barbecue" is only fit for a nursing home, and even then it might constitute elder abuse. Don't bother with Sammy's. Sammy's BBQ is the best in Dallas. The meat and sides are delicious and oh! that BBQ sauce! Sammy's has odd hours, so be sure to check before you go. You won't be disappointed!

I have eaten at Sammy's many times over the years. I have never been disappointed. The brisket is juicy and tender. The rib meat falls off the bones. And of course there is the beer. You have to have beer with your BBQ.

Sammy's has been a staple of years, even before Uptown existed. Food is consistent, very good, and reasonably priced. Love the sides -- I always say I am going to just get a plate of sides but when I get there I smell the bbq and that's all she wrote so I have to alternate my sides. I work in the area and sometimes you can smell the smoker in the morning and you want bbq right then and there. Great place to take out-of-town business visitors for lunch and great atmosphere for eating bbq with your friends and co-workers. Beware though, they are only open for lunch.

Started to go to a famous Dallas BBQ place and the line was so long, we started looking for another restaurant when we were fortunate to find Sammy's BBQ. Ribs were falling apart good. My friends brisket was also great. All cooked to perfection. They have a variety of sides. One that was a bit different for a BBQ place was the summer salad with lots of avocado in it. So good. All the sides we tried were above average compared to other BBQ places. Highly recommend. Located just outside downtown Big D where there are nice hotels and restaurants. Sammy's is a typical Texas BBQ joint with nice patios, also indoor seating. Not very expensive either.

Love their baked potato casserole - awesome!

We were here for a private party. The staff was very efficient, the food average and the ambiance was eclectic. We tried the BBQ brisket and salmon. Both were ok. The sides offered were ok except for the twice baked potato casserole - that was outstanding.

Lived in Dallas for the last 20 yrs and hadn't visited Sammy's. now in feel cheated. We ordered their baked potato. Casserole for a large party and it was huge and excellent. While picking it up we had chopped beef sandwich and I swear it had a half of a pound of meat on it! Absolutely delicious alon with the potato salad. Great service in an authentic Texas BBQ setting. Outdoor seating fits nice lout. The BBQ sauce is excellent as well.

I've been eating at Sammy's since 2000. Today, I took 2 college students (friends of my daughter's) there for lunch. It was a beautiful Spring day and the patio area was full. We opted for the inside to enjoy the light scent of mesquite and warm barbecue sauce. Items ordered: smoked turkey plate, sliced beef plate (2), chopped beef sandwich. Side dishes: baked potato casserole, fried okra, cole slaw, and spinach salad (and a free pickle plate with dill spears & chips, Texas Toast on each plate, and extra WARM sauce served in bottles.) Desserts: lemon bars and 'mile high apple pie'...oh Sweet Mother of Pearl, it was all sooo good! Go. Enjoy. Take your time. Have a cold beer or brewed ice tea. Put a few bucks in the tip jar, because even though you bring your own tray to the table, the busboys come and clean it all for you after your done...so you can linger, chat, and recall the delicious memories of a great meal.

Had brisket and sausage okra and potatoes. Service was outstanding. Pickle bar is really good. Real cane sugar vintage sodas on tap. Really cool building right downtown. Do not miss going here.

When you walk into Sammy's, you line up along the wall and when you reach the kitchen area, you tell (or show) the servers what you want. A little intimidating at first because it looks like a short cafeteria line and it moves along. No sit down and wait for a waiter here! Small price to pay for good BBQ. However, I loved the bbq ribs and the potato casserole. Wash it down with some XX or Dr Pepper in some frosted mugs and life is good. Prices are reasonable. Most of the staff were friendly and helpful but be prepared that the place is packed and noisy. Rolls of paper towels on the table might look de-classe, but you will be glad to have them. They do use real flatware and so you don't have to worry about those horrible plastic utensils some places offer. You can also eat outside under umbrellas or under the tin roof, and those areas are considerably more quiet. The parking can be a challenge but fortunately you can park in the neighborhood across the street (as we did) if you can't find a place in the lot.

We had an awesome Texas BBQ experience at Sammy's while visiting Dallas on a family trip. The food was great and we loved the atmosphere and the staff at this Dallas institution. We met the owner too and he could not have been nicer. Great brisket, pulled pork and turkey - and the sides were all delicious too including beans, cole slaw and mac and cheese.

The place is kind of a dive. Staff wasn't too friendly or anything. Fairly priced wasn't really expensive, but the smoky BBQ taste I was craving wasn't really there. Didn't get much sauce or anything with it and couldn't see any on the tables to add to my food. Your better off with some of the other BBQ options around Dallas

Authentic Texas BBQ. Meat sliced to order. Brisket was tender but no discernible smoke flavor. Ribs were excellent. Tender but not over cooked. Great smoke ring and flavor. Excellent sauce, served warm in squeeze bottles. Great balance of sweet, hot and vinegary in a Texas style tomatoey sauce. Sides were the stars. Two crisp green salads, potato salad and Cole slaw, a wonderful mashed potato casserole, beans and more. Mostly sourced from a farmers market except for the French fries. Decent selection of bottled beers, TVs for sports indoor and outdoor seating. Great, friendly staff.

Excellent bar-b-q, served in portions that will satisfy any appetite. Long lines at lunch tell you the food is great but don't worry - they move people through very quickly. Excellent flavor, nice portions.

A rural oasis next to the Federal Reserve Bank. Always excellent BBQ that I make a point to visit whenever I'm in Dallas.

Great local hole in the wall. I have been enjoying Sammy’s for many years and it’s always the same-perfect! Highly recommend Sammy’s.

Sliced brisket is very good and easily one of the top ten BBQ spots in Dallas. We did not try any other meats. Wife had chopped brisket sandwich which was loaded with brisket for $6.50. I had sliced brisket plate with two sides ( beans...meh, tasteless ) and Baked Potato casserole ( smashed down loaded baked potato ).

When visiting Dallas make sure to make time for a trip downtown for lunch at Sammy's. Great food, welcoming atmosphere, and a place where 'old' Dallas folks meet. If you want a taste of Texas...this the place!!

BBQ is hard to judge everyone has a different flavor they like best. I can honestly say every meat I have had at Sammy's is excellent, brisket, ribs, sausage, turkey and chicken. They are all great, my favorite side is the zucchini casserole it is to die for. Great place to meet up in Dallas and chow down. Get there early they close up about 3 in the afternoon after all the food is gone. Located right behind the Federal Reserve Building

When I officed in this part of town ,I ate here all the time and it was good . Boy has it changed! Nothing tasted like it was smoked. The sausage was boiled ,the ribs were not good . the beef was just ok. the sauce was terrible. The spinach salad and the fried okra was quite good ,potato salad was ordinary. Don't waste your time , it beyond help!

Awesome for lunch - great for some down home cook'n!

I love this place for BBQ. The chopped beef sandwich with lots of sauce is my favorite. There is nothing better than going to eat BBQ and smelling like hickory smoke when you come out. This place is great.

This is decorated like a rustic texas watering hole: all corrugated metal and weathered wood. You can smell the smoker from the parking lot, and if it's at least your second visit you will begin to salivate as soon as it hits you. I love the chopped beef brisket. they have a large outdoor area when the weather is nice. This is a popular lunch place for those who work downtown.

Went today just before they closed. Thanks guys for staying open. Tough to find location, as GPS kept telling us the wrong street name. It’s worth trying to find it. Had traditional brisket which is both tender and right amount of smoke taste. Others had ribs and smoked turkey which they said was outstanding. Sides were made on site and were all good. Worth the trip from anywhere around the city.

Wonderful a must if you are in Dallas! Got the rib and brisket combo was outstanding. The onion rings are an absolute must!!!

The food was very good, the service is simple, the atmosphere is nothing fancy. Nevertheless, it was great place for a fast meal on a Saturday afternoon.

My son and his bride were married in Dallas last weekend. They opted to have a casual rehearsal dinner at Sammy's due to its location, the number of guests attending this dinner (many were out of town guests), the quality of the food and the incredible service. This restaurant is open for lunch Monday through Saturday but closed in the evening. However, they will open when booked for a private event. It was a great, casual venue. Our group of 80 fit comfortably inside and was served a bbq buffet that included sliced brisket, chopped beef, pork ribs, sausage, hot links, pork loin turkey and chicken. Those were accompanied with all sorts of choices for sides, access to the beer fridge, iced tea, sodas, white and red wine and a choice of pies for desert. The guests raved about the food and the service. After the dinner we all moved outside to their spacious, covered porch area where the band was set up. The entire event was booked for 3 hours. There was plenty of free parking in their lot for the local guests and it was a short taxi ride from the Hyatt Reunion Tower. I highly recommend Sammy's.

Went to Sammy's for a private party and the food was excellent especially the spare ribs that were so tender they melted in your mouth. The brisket was fine, but the sides of potato salad and desserts were great. The staff was especially attentive.

I have been frequenting Sammy’s for 5 years. The brisket is smoky and moist. But the sides are the best. The fried okra is fresh- not frozen. So much better then other places and the avocado and tomato salad is excellent. The cheesy potato casserole and beans also set the standard. As you can see, a vegetarian meal would be very tasty but the smell of the BarBQ , Would never let me pas it up. Oh, the ribs and sausage are also outstanding. This is not fancy dinning just great food at a good price. Buy by the pound and be a hero at home or the next party. Hint- the location is behind the Dallas Federal Reserve Bank. Turn off the feeder road just north of the bank and you can see the parking lot. Unusually good parking for Uptown

Pro - high quality Texan BBQ, you could get the brisket & ribs; convenient location in Uptown Con - missed their signature soda cup which is large and has a sturdy plastic cap so that you could carry it around

This place is pretty hidden off the beaten path in my opinion. The staff is over-the-top friendly! The pickled tomatoes on the relish bar are out of this world! I could make a meal on them alone. Oh yeah, and the BBQ ain't too shabby either!

Sammy’s was recommended by an employee at the nearby Federal Reserve, so, after our tour we walked over for lunch. It’s a very casual, cafeteria style set up. The restaurant was packed with locals having lunch. There was lots of seating inside and out. We each tried a different BBQ plate. I had the ribs, coleslaw and ice tea. It was fall off the bone, melt in your mouth tender and the sauce was great. The coleslaw was delicious. Dill pickles were at the help yourself station and were also great. I would go again, and I would recommend this stop for lunch.

I was recommended to try Sammy's by an employee of a chain BBQ place! They were right the prices and the food are better. I have taken two out of state visitors there now. We got a 3 meat combo with two sides for $12.95 and shared. We did add 2 ribs for around $4 and we were both stuffed. They have a pickle bar to choose from my favorite is the sweet pickled green tomatoes. The potato casserole was yummy. The coleslaw wasn't sweet enough for me but my friend loved it. Meats were all yummy, the ribs and chopped beef were our favorite. After our meal, which was right at the end of lunch (they close at 3pm I'm not sure if they reopen or not,) the owner offered to give us a ride to the closest train stop! Now that's customer service! I look forward to eating there again every time I'm down town Dallas!

I swung in for some to-go lunch. The line was long but they put out the food quickly. The crowd looked to be professionals out for lunch so they clearly know how to serve quickly. The prices are really good. The brisket and pulled pork were very good. The ribs and the sauce really shone though. The ribs were tender and the sauce had a nice tang to it. While Sammy's may not get the press that some of the other joints get, it's still a good choice.

This trip was for a take out order for a family event. I called a day ahead and placed the order. They offered warm or cold at pickup. I selected cold and just put the pan of meat in the oven for a couple of hours and it came out perfect. Great family meal with not work or mess to clean up. Oh, great brisket and sausage.

at the low end, bad sides

Thanks to Sammy’s for this meal A good BBQ in Dallas for lunch which is not too expensive and the waiters are there to take care of you 😋👍🏼😊

There are a few places in the country where you have to eat BBQ when you are in the area, and Texas is one of them! Sammy's food was fresh, and excellent! I tried to get the group to go back it was so good. I can't wait to be back in the area to try it again!

Everyone was so friendly which is rare now and food was amazing. The zucchini casserole is amazing just as the hot links and brisket!!!

Stumbled into this place for a late lunch! Ribs were delicious - meat was tender, not fatty and fell right off the bone! Cole slaw was great as well - very fresh! Service was terrific and they were closing soon after I arrived and I wasn't rushed out! Must stop-in if you are downtown in Arts district and want some great ribs.

Excellent place for tourists to try the Texan BBQ experience. The staff are super friendly and let us in before official opening rather than have us wait outside. The atmosphere feels authentic but bear in mind that this is coming from a European who doesn't get to sample Texan BBQ that often. Worth stopping by and sampling their menu.

Amazing lunchtime stop. The chopped brisket was flavorful and tender. The onion rings were delicious, and the fried okra was delicious. Decor was fun and staff was friendly. Will make a point to stop when I am in town again.

Favorite BBQ in town!

I had to go around the block a couple times to find it, but so glad I did. I was getting happy when I walked by the huge stack of fragrant wood ready to transform beef into delicious BBQ! I was waiting inside this quintessential Texas nosh site for my husband to arrive when one of the managers came up to me and said, "you waiting for someone?". "yes", I replied. He said "Can I get you a cold drink while you wait?" After he brought me a tall diet coke I asked him if I could get a big salad here, with some meat on top, because it wasn't on the menu? "Sure you can--we'll make you whatever you want. Just tell the guys on the line." What awesome service. And the food did not disappoint!

Sammy's is a lively little restaurant around the Arts District in Dallas. You can tell it's populated by locals due to the accents, the cowboy hats, and the number of cops in attendance. The BBQ was the best I've had. The brisket was smoky and tender, while the flavorful ribs fell off the bone. Sides are tasty (except for the baked beans), especially the mashed potato casserole. This place is well worth the trip, and I can say for certain that we will be back.

Wonderful experience - awesome BBQ, but the friendly and welcoming attitudes from everyone is what sets this place apart. Will most definitely return next time in Dallas!!

We rented the place for a rehearsal dinner and it was fantastic. Friendly staff and great food. We had about 70 people there and everything went off without a hitch. The zucchini casserole was so good they actually ran out of it. It was clearly a crowd favorite. The hot link was my favorite meat choice. I didn't give 5 stars because I didn't try the ribs and that's a major item for BBQ. I hope to go back and try them and rate this place again.

Wow, I'd heard about this place from friends and finally made it, the food is totally awesome the ribs and potato casserole yum, friendly staff too

As a Gringo/Tejano living in Costa Rica perhaps one of the things I miss most is Texas BBQ. Recently I traveled to Dallas for a meeting and our group arranged for a private party at Sammy's. I could smell the hardwood smoke from the pits two, blocks away. By the time our party arrived Imwas already experiencing food fanticies. The food and entertainment exceeded all expectations. I had brisket and sausage followed by a delicious portion of pecan pie. Needless to say I OD'd on everything. If you like BBQ you should certainly try this place.

Texas BBQ is quite the change from Lexington style BBQ am used to - brisket instead of pulled pork, but was a pleasant surprise! Had lunch here with friends a few times during a recent trip to Dallas - great little BBQ place with outside/covered eating in front and AC inside out back. On both occasions, the place was packed, with lines out the door, though I think we happened to catch the local lunch crowd. You line up cafeteria style, select your meat and side combo and move along. Recommend the brisket plate (alert : brisket comes untrimmed, so its a little fatty, if that is not what your looking for), but we all thought was delicious, melts in your mouth goodness. Also a must have - the zucchini casserole, wow! Wash it down with a few Lone Stars in frosty mugs and you are good to go!

This is an authentic Texas BBQ restaurant with some of the best sliced smoked brisket in the area. To compliment my sliced brisket sandwich, their potato casserole and summer salad completed a very satisfying lunch. Eating outside on their covered patio also contributed to the wonderful experience. I highly recommend!

Pretty decent and friendly local BBQ joint in downtown Dallas. The atmosphere is good and the service courteous and efficient. Prices ranged between $6.00 - $13.00 for sandwiches and many platters with 2 sides. There are several brands of beer.

I went here with a colleague from Dallas who recommended it for local food. I had the turkey platter with potato salad and spinach salad. Everything was great. The atmosphere is rustic but you probably aren't going there for that.

We liked the counter/food line ordering. You could see what you were ordering and no wait time to dine. The staff made our visit memorable. Catering to our grandson, while the food was delicious. We had BBQ ribs and Pork sandwich.

If you like smoked turkey and spinach salad instead of just the regular bar b q items...this place will be a crowd pleaser for all

Cool place with very authentic setting, a good place to experience when you're visiting Dallas and want to feel local.

Good ribs, nice sides, and a good atmosphere makes this a solid barbecue place. It wasn't awesome bbq, but the ribs were tasty and I have no complaints.

Great BBQ place, but when in town visiting know that they are closed on Sunday. Go for the 3 meat platter so your taste buds can experience the different flavors of brisket, pulled pork, and the sausage. Nothing real special about the sides, but that also isn't the reason you come here.

This is a place that takes BBQ seriously, and offerings on the menu reflect the scope of BBQ options you can enjoy at Sammy's.

This restaurant was so good! Friendly service...generous food portions...reasonably priced! The kids really liked the turkey...excellent! Everything we had tasted great! We liked the atmosphere of the restaurant and would definitely go back when in Dallas!

We were visiting Dallas from out of town, and we thought the town we live in had the best barbeque, until we visited Sammy's BarBQ. I had the chopped beef and my wife had the sliced beef and both of us thought the barbeque tasted better than we had ever eaten before. The sides we had were good too - that being the baked potato casserole and the fried okra. The place was a little noisy because it is so crowded due to the food being as good as it is. The outdoor area would have been quieter but it was chilly the day we were there and so we chose to eat indoors instead. The manager walked around to the table and asked us if everything was ok.

This was great! Awesome meats and probably some of the better sides for a BBQ place. The sauce wasn't "special". It was solid and tasty. Highly recommended!!!

Great chopped beef sandwich. The best baked potato casserole, and squash casserole side dishes. Awesome lemon bars for dessert.

I have been a long time customer of Sammy's and the quality has never wavered. The friendly staff and owner, Marshal,l are always a pleasure to see, and the food is great. Although they are a BBQ restaurant, the star of the menu is the baked potato casserole! Amazing! Already looking forward to my next trip!

Sammy's is open for lunch only, 11am-3pm Mon-Sat (closed on Sundays). Customers order at the counter cafeteria-style. Casual restaurant with charming atmosphere. I got the three meat plate with beef brisket, pork ribs and Jalapeno sausage, and potato casserole and fried okra for the two sides. Service was very good. Fried okra was very good. Unfortunately I found the meat disappointing. The beef brisket was dry and a little tough. I had to put sauce on the brisket in order to eat it. Fortunately the sauce was tasty. Pork ribs were a little dry too. Sausage was average. Given the reputation of this place, I must have gone on an "off day." I had gone to Pecan Lodge a few days earlier, and Pecan Lodge's brisket and pork ribs were significantly better.

We were a group of 15 - treated like Kings. Great value for the amount of good you get. You would think it's a dive from outside but very clean and great food.

In the downtown area, Sammy’s is the go to spot for good bbq. Everything from turkey to brisket, cole slaw to potato salad, and everything in between can be found here. You order at a counter - kind of cafeteria style - and pay before being seated. There is indoor and outdoor seating depending on the weather. I would recommend the chopped brisket.

* It is a simple but authentic restaurant serving meat and sausages * You select and pick your meal * Very good cooked and tasty * Very good deserts * Staff and owner lady are very pleasant * Authentic decoration, you can see items from your childhood

I work nearby and take out of town coworkers here for lunch when they ask for BBQ. No pretense, nothing fancy, just great BBQ. My favorite side is the potato casserole, it's delicious (potato, cheese, sour cream, chives, bacon).

Hidden behind the imposing Federal Reserve Bank of Dallas you'll have to hunt for the entrance to Sammy's BBQ. The brisket melts in your mouth and the apple pie is delicious! Worth the hunt. And not expensive. A plate is enough for 2 to share.

Excellent place, visiting from Boston, and let me tell you...I am impressed. Friendly people, clean, food was very tasty.

In town for a business trip and Sammy's was recommended by a friend. Great location in uptown and easily walkable from my hotel, which was a great thing because after eating there I needed the exercise! Out of all the great looking menu items, I opted for the two-meat plate with sliced brisket and ribs. Ribs were stellar, practically falling off the bone and melting after a bite. Brisket was also really good, tender and perfectly cooked, but very close to being a bit too fatty for my tastes. In the big scheme of things, this isn't much a gripe, just an observation. Also have to mention how warm and friendly the entire staff was. Very personable and inviting, went out of their way to make sure the experience was a good one. Didn't try to the desserts, but I may have to go back to sample the apple or pecan pie. I should also mention everything is made from scratch.

We were in Dallas recently and barbeque was top of the to-do list. We found Sammy's on Tripadvisor and gave it a try upon arrival for lunch. Our party had brisket, which was moist and not fatty, and turkey which was also moist and tender. No knives needed here! The fries and salad were good and the portions generous. A very good value. We like our Q sauce in the Kansas City style- sweet, smokey and moderately hot. Sammy's sauce was perfect! Reminded me a little of Gates and Sons in KC. We liked Sammy's so much that we returned a few days later before we left Dallas. Will gladly go there again. Great place, great service, great q!

After arriving to Downtown Dallas from a morning of flying the family and wanted to get a quick bite to eat. The GPS was a little confused but we eventually made it there. One thing to note, this place is outside pet friendly, there is a tree that had 2 different dogs tied up during our stay. Upon entering and about to go find a place to seat, we were motioned over to the ordering line by a patron and the server. I ended up with the chopped brisket sandwich, while the rest of the minions had the ribs and the chicken. Overall the food was just meh for us. As other stated, there is a wide selection of drinks and the people that work there aren't overly friendly. One thing I didn't like was that there weren't any pork n beans, I mistakenly got baked beans.

First time to visit. The sliced brisket was so tender and delicious!! I had just a little of the BBQ sauce on part of my brisket, the sauce is awesome also!

We visited at lunch in August 2020, and while the tables didn't look nearly as lovely as the pictures on this site, the BBQ was absolutely delicious! It took us a couple minutes to realize that the food is served cafeteria style. A lot of great variety of meats and each one is full of flavor. BBQ sauces also excellent. Sides were okay, and I was hoping for better French fries. But considering how good the main dishes were, it was okay. Also the folks behind the counter were really friendly and helpful. I would highly recommend.

I just love going to Sammys BBQ ..............always have the sliced beef plate with corn on the cob and French fries.....................THE BEEF IS ALWAYS TENDER AND LEAN .........the sides fresh and are always very tasty..................certainly worth a visit!,,,

We have been coming here regularly since it opened in the 80's. We always order their smoke turkey plus patato cassrole and spinach salad - they are the best. Of course, there other items are very good too. Good place to bring the family, a quick lunch with business associates or a quick bite on the way to the art district.

I loved the chopped sandwich and what really stands out is there mashed potato caserole. This is for guys who know Bar B Q.

When we run over to Dallas we enjoy Sammie's. Friendly staff and atmosphere. While you do go through a serving line and pick your poison the staff tend to the tables for refills and a friendly check in regularly. Kiddos like the ribs, but we see, to enjoy the two meat plate with brisket and pulled pork. Simply put this is a good old fashioned joint plopped into one of the most expensive areas of Dallas. Prices are reasonable and food is good.

I am from Georgia and had heard that the Texas BBQ was the best! Sammy's did not let me down! The flavor was excellent! I had a chopped sandwich.

Sammy’s is a great place to eat and the portions are huge. It is located downtown so you can visit in between other activities in the area for lunch or dinner. If you go during lunch hours expect long lines as many office workers will be there too.

Their sides are the best on the planet! I'm a vegetarian, and I go to Sammy's every chance I get! Always great service with a smile, and the food really can't be beat!

Never a good sign when the counter staff automatically reach for the sauce ladle. Beans seemed straight out of a Ranch Style can. Lukewarm temp. Potato salad was bland - added yellow mustard to give it some flavor. Turkey was moist and tender, almost rubbery, but no flavor on its own. Brisket was fairly tender, but not very moist, with no bark and minimal smokiness. On a better note, portions were ample and the staff was friendly. Ate on a Sat. - kinda felt like we were served what didn't sell earlier in the week?

I may not be from the BBQ capital of the world (NY) but this was some amazing, mouth watering BBQ. I love the super casual, down-home feel of the place. The "Two Meat Plate" was recommended by my colleague and I selected Bricket (amazing) and then asked the server to give me his favorite was my second... which somehow meant that I wound up with 2 more. I was given the Turkey (generally not a fave of mine, but it was moist, tasy and all around the best turkey I've ever had) and sausage (also great). For sides, I had zuccini casserole (delish) and a spinach salad, which was crisp, hearty and dressed perfectly (and I never like restaurant dressing - always use homemade or simple olive oil and lemon). I left wishing only that I could eat my entire meal again (petite woman with a big appetite!) You must try this place...!

If you are looking for true Texas Bar-B-Q with an "in the country feel this is the place. The only catch is it is in the shadow of the Federal Reserve Building in Downtown Dallas and a little tricky to find. Great Smoky Beef and sides that are true to the best in Texas. Be ready to enjoy this on the patio or the few inside tables.
Work Lunch Hour
Finally had a chance to try this place out. Hours are 11a-3p and closed Sunday so there were limited opportunities. I am easily disappointed in BBQ joints but this one passed the test. I had (Large, tender) ribs, sausage, fries and fried okra. Next time I will be trying the zucchini casserole! Great experience!
