Walked up to Pearl from our hotel & was lucky enough to get one of the last tables available. Clearly it might pay to book. Restaurant was stylish but friendly - the table next to us were there for their 5th consecutive night which says a lot about the food. We ordered a range of pizza, pasta & salads & all were delicious. House white wine was very palatable but wait until you experience the “messy sundae” - words don’t really describe it adequately but just bring a few friends & ensure you leave some room for desert

My mom and I went on a Saturday night and it was crowded but not overcrowded. We were sat right away. They have a cute little fireplace out front you can eat around. We ordered the Spicy Thai Chicken Salad and the Burrata and Pesto pizza to split between us and they were both to die for! We had leftovers because the salad was huge but no leftover pizza because it was too good not to finish. Would highly recommend to a group of friends or even a family.

The weather was great so we decided to eat outside. We ordered pizza and salad, service was great. The pizza was good but the salad was better. Loved the Messy Sundae, it's a sundae dish dipped in chocolate and caramel with walnuts everywhere.

We enjoyed good wraps..very fresh and okay priced for La Jolla. We ate outside on the patio which was lovely.

Never disappointed here. Had a great gluten-free pizza, Italian sausage. Also had the chopped salad. Great food at great prices. Terrific service.

We were seated quickly. Attentive server's provided the requested drinks. Just at the right time, it seemed, we made our choice's from a varied menu from pizza to pasta. We chose the chopped chicken salad and the Angel hair pasta with shrimp, artichoke and bacon. Each was enough for two with take home. Each was well prepared and delicious. This is my go too place for lunch and dinner with family and friends.

The restaurant is quite big, and we did not have to wait to be seated. The waiters are very nice and they propose drawing to kids. We ordered tomato soup (delicious, if a bit spicy), greek salad and pizza. The food was fresh and tasty - best greek salad ever!

The title says it all. We shared a great kale salad, with feta and roasted almond slivers, and a terrific pizza, together with a couple of local draft beers and left with tip at under $50. The ambiance is a pizza house but it was quiet the night we went. The service is rudimentary but perfectly adequate. For a night out ( or lunch) of pizza, it’s very good indeed.

We stayed today in this place, we ate good salads (Greek and Caesar) and an acceptable pizza... although it definitely can not be called Margherita. Fast service and very friendly staff, we would return!

Large varied menu. Wood fire pizzas are good. Fish tacos tasty. Also many pasta choices. Although it is right on street it seems special.

Try the shishito peppers, duck tacos, and pork dumplings. All are very tasty. The staff was attentive and pleasant. A very nice place.

The "tapas" are superb as are the salads and most everything here. Great casual dining restaurant. Love the duck tacos!

We ate here recently on our trip to La Jolla. We have eaten here before and the food is real good. The service was a little slow with our food and we had to ask for more water twice.

The pizza was really good, well cooked and very close to an italian pizza, except for the amount of garlic. But I guess americans must love garlic because it's everywhere! I would definitely go back, it was a great discovery!

Locals took us to lunch at Sammy’s Woodfired Pizza & Grill on Pearl St., sat indoors. Pizza’s are wood fired. I chose the Italian sausage pizza, an Artisan thin crust but more like a New York style pizza. On a 1 to 10, had to give it a 4 because of the crust and the meager portions of sausage. Would not recommend pizzas, they have other great items on the menu. Others in party had excellent Duck tacos, Greek salad and Roasted Curried Cauliflower. Service was great.

bad accomodations for group, bad food, long wait for food, forgot part of order, restaurant only half full. server tried but received no help or cooeperatin from kitchen. understaffed. no help from manager. other than that not bad.

Split a large salad and a gluten free pizza with my husband. We both thought the GF crust was excellent. The pizza was tasty and filling, as was the salad. I think they've changed their GF crust because we've had it in the past and, while adequate, it was very thin and insubstantial. The current GF crust has some heft. I can't figure out why another reviewer said it was so awful. Also the restaurant is very pleasant inside - not too noisy. There is also a pleasant outdoor patio with a firepit.

We love coming to Sammys and each of us has our favorite item on the menu. Casual, fun and welcoming. The food is good and we can recommend it!

The food varies for very good to so so, depending on who is cooking it or who is supplying the menu. The corporate headquarters are directly across the street so you can offer compliment, or complaints, tot he powers that be very easily

We went here on a recommendation from our hotel clerk. they have a big menu…sort of Mediterranean/italian and were definitely family friendly. They were very busy and nice although seemed a bit short handed. I like it when restaurants have a kids menu which they did and were very accommodating considering we had a two year old running our booth. I had the pepperoni pizza and we shared a grilled veggie salad which was excellent!

Sammy's has a nice variety of food. Good soups, salads, pasta and of course their pizza is delicious. I would highly recommend this restaurant.

The pizza was god and the service was friendly! We sat inside, but there was a nice, covered patio, too.

My friends suggested meeting at Sammy's in La Jolla. What a find for delicious pasta, organic salads, mid-East eggplant appetizer with pita, and salmon tacos at a reasonable price! There's indoor seating with tables and booths, an outdoor patio on Pearl St., and takeaway. Street parking wasn't a challenge on Sunday evening, but otherwise might be. Next time I'll try the pizza as our shared meal (large portions) passed expectations for a chain restaurant.

After reading several reviews, we decided to visit Sammy's Woodfired Pizza & Grill. In one word I would say "Meh" it's not bad so to speak but it's also not that good. I will say that it has a large menu and some nice looking salads. I just wouldn't be going there and expect amazingly blistered, thin-crust wood fired pizza. It is good for groups and kids.

We have gone to these restaurants a few times when we were in San Diego and have never been disappointed. They have a gluten free menu and the service has always been great. The food is very good as well. We will return again next time we visit San Diego.

Seriously people, I fly from Txas for this cullinary masterpiece. The duck tacos are one of the best things I have ever eaten in my life. They are literally the best thing on their menu.

Excelllent food. Service sub standard had salads and burgers group of 10. Mainly local to Lajolla convenient location parking on street

We had dinner here on April 28, 2013 with Kristen K. as the server. Food and service was excellent. Rhonda had the NY style pizza with pepperoni, sausage and mushrooms. I had the French style crust with truffle oil, brie cheese and mushrooms; this is a very thin type crust. Both pizzas were excellent. The server recommended an Australian Cab: Penfolds Rawson’s Retreat; the written description said it was a mellow, creamy Cab so I tried a $7 glass and it was as described, which was good as I don’t like a dry Cabernet Sauvignon. Australia is certainly doing their own thing with some of the red varietals.

Visited Sammys for a second time. First time we enjoyed it. Hubby and I decided to each order a pizza. Both were woodfired with wholewheat crust. He had spicy Italian sausage, I had garlic chicken. They were both served in less than 15 minutes and they both looked yummy. They both tasted extremely bland, no flavor in either of them. The crust tasted like the do it yourself crust we get at Vons. We agreed we won't be back a 3rd time

Group of ten stopped on a whim for dinner. The young ladies had us seated quickly without any issues. This is a group with a tendency to be a bit on the finicky side, a few making requests that in my opinion are a bit over the top. However, our male server handled each question and request with outstanding professionalism. I sadly did not get his name. Orders ranged from salads, pizza, pasta and sliders. A few have dined here before, the rest of us are from out of state. We all enjoyed our meals. The place is clean, servers and hostesses seemed happy with smiles all around. I hope to return when back in the area.

We are pizza lovers, and know a good pizza when we are presented with one. We had 3 different kinds here, and none of them came close to being good. Yet the place was mobbed. What goes???

We only came in for appetizers during happy hour but we were pleasantly surprised. The shrimp dip was really good! Dean was super polite and knowledgable of the area.

Every time we go to La Jolla we visit Sammy's Woodfired Pizza. We were lucky this time, as they were not too busy. Had some great pizza and really like the appetizer bread that you can ask for.

We had a lovely meal here. The service was good and the staff were very friendly. We had a variety of kids meals, a pizza, a salad and a fish dish and everyone really enjoyed their meal. There is much more to choose from than just pizza. Would definitely recommend.

Most families frequent Sammy's on a fairly regular basis. Good wood fired pizzas, but also excellent salads, pastas, and an ever increasing international offerings. If you can save room, be sure to eat one of their "very messy sundaes" - definitely enough for 2 people to share.

Was with a large group (20+) of boys and parents for a sports event. We were looking for a place for dinner and Sammy's could accommodate us at 8pm....which I knew was a warning. While the food was fine, it was nothing special. Service was pleasant but slooooow. The food was over-spiced, over-sauced, and very basic....but it served our needs.

I came here with my wife and my 2yr old daughter. The pizza was above average but did not blow me away for the price that we paid. Of course this place is located in La Jolla and that definitely adds to the price you will pay.

We were here for lunch after our visit to La Jolla Cove. We liked the Pizza with with Pesto and Burratta but the other Pizza with eggplant was okay. We asked to substitute toppings on the veggie lovers pizza but were told that the veggies were premixed so they cannot be changed. We also noticed that other customers were offered bread at the beginning but we weren't. Wasn't sure if it was complimentary. The location is nice otherwise by the street.

This convenient spot was recommended to us by my parents who ate there years ago. We visited twice for dinner and loved it. Great pizza---we tried different ones and they were both good. Beet salad with arugula was excellent. Wines by the glass were perfect. Friendly and quick service even during busy times. We loved it! Go at happy hour for discounts.

The food was good, but a little pricey for what you are served. It all turned a bit sour when you get the bill with a 4 percent surcharge on top of the California sales tax. There are many places in La Jolla to eat that are as good and without a surcharge.

We had a big group . Preteen ,teens and adults. Nice menus and personal pizzas . Medium prices. Outside seating better than inside

Pizza and salads are plentiful and delicious. Wines were great, but the sangria and mojitos were not. Had to send those back. Enjoyed it so much we went back 2 nights later and had some appetizers and a chicken dish. Skip the meatballs. Would recommend highly!

I've been going to Sammy's at different locations for years, so its time to review them. They are known for mostly 2 things: killer salads and wood fired pizzas. But, they have something for everyone from tapas, to sundaes that can feed an army. I tend to eat their salads and today was no exception. Their wild arugula with red quinoa and beets was sensational. Very flavorful with a slit kick to the dressing. The individual salads are a full meal for one and if you want to share a pizza, share the individual salad, as their large salad also feeds an army. Nice place, consistently good. Today, we were there just after the lunch rush, so the serve staff was a little off their game, or I would have rated them with 5 stars instead of 4.

We have tried this place a few times, it's hit or miss. The salads are big enough to split, but they could stand to cut back on the salt....

Stopped by Sammy's for a light dinner after the movie. No one working the reception desk at first. Had to wait to be seated even though lots of empty tables. Once we were seated service was good with only a short wait for our food. The food was good but nothing special. Another restaurant that has decided to add 4% surcharge to the bill for increased revenue to offset increase in minimum wages I suspect. I would rather see the restaurant raise the menu prices than add a surcharge. Most people we talked to decrease the tip by the surcharge amount.

We stopped by on a Wednesday night. We sat outside and the seating area was beautiful. We ordered a pizza and it was delicious. Also had the messy sundae and it was indeed messy and so good. Will stop by again when In town.

We did take out from Sammy's a couple of times while in La Jolla. When I went to the restaurant to pick up our order, it was always packed with both families and couples and service looked friendly and busy! The pizza's are single serving. We tried both the regular and thin crust pizza as well as the two of the salads (quinoa and veggie) which were large and tasty. Definitely a spot we would return to, hopefully to eat in next time!

After our party of 8 waited the initial 20 minutes for a table fir lunch we were given after checking in, we asked again and were told another 15-20 minutes. From the time of our arrival two tables for 4 sat empty before us. After waiting a total of about 45 minutes we were told a table had cleared and we would be seated. The table was pointed out to us and we saw that there was one person clearing plates, but after they took the initial load back to the kitchen they never returned to finish the job. After waiting another 10 minutes we gave up. Having eaten at the Mission Valley location of this restaurant we know they are capable of excellent service and great food, but we were not going to see that today.

Our family loved this place. We sat out in the patio area which was really pleasant. Our waitress was nice and provided great service. My kids raved about the pizza. I had some amazing fish tacos and my husband had a great pasta dish. We would definitely return if we are in the area again!

What a great way to end a day of strolling on the beach and enjoying everything La Jolla has to offer. The pizza here is excellent, very light and tasty. We also had a barbecue chicken salad which was superb. This is easy to find and a nice interior ambience. If you're in the area and looking for a real treat, stop by Sammy's!

We went here last night after a quick emergency shop to the mall. My girlfriend knew the waiter Mark. They are frequent fliers there. The pizza was out of this world. The service was awesome. We had a very wonderful time.

We always visit Sammy's when we are in San Diego. The wood fired pizzas are good. We tried the hamburger sliders and they were really good. Server did a great job considering how busy they were. We like the atmosphere in the restaurant.

The food and atmosphere was great and staff very friendly!

We went looking for pizza near our La Jolla rental and picked Sammy's. It was a Friday night and very crowded, but we got a table within 20 minutes. Our server was very nice and efficient. The three of us each had an individual pizza and they were all great. My husband said it was his favorite restaurant in La Jolla. If you have room for dessert, their "messy sundae" looked great.

I was hesitant to order the pear and arugula pizza but was looking for something different and this was awesome! So glad I gave it a try. For an appetizer we had the crab and shrimp dip with grilled flat bread that was very tasty. Would definitely order again, and the duck tacos? The disappeared in a flash.

Pearl Street has a number of very good restaurants at very reasonable prices. At Sammy's we just had pork dumplings ((very good), a thin crust pizza with goat cheese and honey (excellent), and two glasses of a decent wine for about $30. All this in La Jolla!

We were a group of six for dinner. The staff was great. I ordered a pizza, but the crust was very soggy in the middle. I'm not one for eating pizza with a knife and fork, but it tasted good, and I guess that's what I was after. The others in the group were satisfied with their meals. One bathroom was either locked or out of order: one one was available. That's not good. All in all, a decent experience.

Sure it is a “chain”, but they have some solid pizza’s and salads. The food and service are good, and the prices are reasonable for La Jolla!

Shortly after arriving in La Jolla during a quick trip to introduce my sister and niece to SD, finding someplace to eat was a priority. After a night in Harbor Village and a couple of our dinner favorites letting us down I was worried about strike 3. Sammy's bailed us out. The service was great (thanks Rachel from NJ) and the food was outstanding. Pretty good NY style pizza and the mini duck tacos were outstanding.

I will say that I hope our server was just having an off day, but she really didn't seem to have the time to serve us. She walked away while I was talking to her, and when taking drink orders, she skipped a couple of us. We also saw her roll her eyes when we asked her for something she forgot to bring out earlier. That being said, the pizzas were good. The kids were happy with their children's meals, and my hubby and I enjoyed our artichoke appetizer.

We were visiting La Jolla beach and needed a quick bite to eat to tie us over before dinner. We had cheese pizza. It was very delicious. Staff was friendly.

The BBQ chicken pizza was so good I went back the next day and ordered it again! Staff was very friendly and knowledgeable. They have a full GF menu (with prices!) listing all the pizzas available as well as salads and other entrees. I did NOT see GF pasta on the menu but I believe they offered GF beer (Red Bridge). Seating inside was VERY limited so either call ahead or be prepared for a wait. They had a nice, tent-enclosed outdoor area with propane heaters. The first night I ate out there and it was pleasant without a jacket even thought it was a cold night (for San Diego).

Mediocre pizza and synthetic food. I was dissapointed by Sammy's. However, I did have sliders here once and they were ok. I think this place used to be good and it's just gotten complacent or tired.

We are regulars at Sammy's both in La Jolla and Las Vegas. Th evening always begins with a fresh salad to share, then pasta pomodoro for me and Hawaiian pizza for my days. The bread (you must ak for it, but no extra charge) i a must. Portions are such that the is always a doggie bag to go. H9ouse red wins pairs well with dinner.

Drinks, Pepperoni pizza, Thai chicken salad, and desert (sundae)...all very good tasting with sufficient quantity. Very efficient service from Stefani.

Finally Sammys re opened two weeks ago we had missed it for our out of town grand children. We ordered a cocktail and a beer but the cocktail did not arrive until we had finished the shared starter...a glass of water took as long. The food was good, especially the starter of hummus and two other dips. We both had pizza which were quite substantial but my thin crust one was more like puff pastry and quite dry. The bill came to $65.00 for one starter two pizzas and three drinks. Lots of wait staff and some in training so there are a few problems like service to iron out both tables next to us complained about the delays.

We go to the Sammy's on Pearl Street often. The food is always consistently good. You can't go wrong with the salads or pizzas. Some of their other items are also good, especially the appetizers. I would recommend Sammy's for families and for take out.

Sammy's was shutdown for a long time but has reopenned. There is a nice fire pit out front so you can sit there if you like. They serve wood fired pizza, pasta etc. The food is pretty good. It is quite popular so make sure you have a reservations.

The pizza was nothing to write home about. We had the grilled veggie salad. I did not think it was that good.

Very nice restaurant. Enjoyed the pizzas and the ambience .... The prices were slightly high. Overall nice place and would return. This is a chain so would eat at other locations.

Food was average- not bad, not great, except I would say the lobster bisque was above average. Kids' pizzas were good. The service was terrible. It took a far above average amount of time to get our food and once we got served we never saw our waitstaff again. My two kids were falling asleep at the table when she finally came by and we could ask for the check. Other waitstaff walked right by with our plates piled up, glasses empty, looked at me, looked at table and walked on. I almost got up to pace in front of our table but I have never made a scene in a restaurant and didn't want to start this evening.

There are honestly so so many good places to eat in La Jolla now that I would probably choose somewhere else. I usually get the shrimp salad however, it's just shrimp and romaine and the other salads around the area offer so much more. They do have pizzas as well and they are pretty good.

When we first arrived, there was no one at the host station. There were a few servers standing close to the bar that looked towards us, but never seated us. It look about 10 minutes for someone to finally come over and take us to a table. The server was very friendly and checked on us often. The pizza we ordered was just okay. It wasn't hot enough for my taste. The menu had many varieties of pizzas to choose from.

Sammy’s has a nice outdoor patio and a lovely selection of pizzas. They all have thin crusts and have extra thin crusts available if you want. Their pizza ingredients range from burrata cheese, to goat cheese with honey..........which was delicious!

Had dinner here on March 18, 2013; server was Tabitha, who did an excellent job. This place is our neighborhood pizza place as it is only 2 blocks from us but it does have a lot more than pizza. Rhonda had the New York pizza and i had the Burrata/Pesto pizza, both the Woodfired versions, as opposed to their thin pizzas. Then woodfired versions were thin but they come out with a soft dough which we like. Rhonda reported her pizza was good and I also had a good pizza. The Burrata refers to a sweet Italian cheese, they put chunks of it on the pizza after the pizza is cooked. The pizza has a nice amount of pesto sauce on it and very little tomato sauce, which is good. We each had a glass of red wine; Rhonda had their Chianti Placido and I had a Pinot Noir from of all places Sicily. Vineyard was Arancio and I went for it since I asked Tabitha which of the 3 Pinot Noirs they offer by glass was the most mellow/easy to drink and she said this one; she was right: it was very mellow, just the type of Pinot Noir I like. We took a few pieces home with us, for lunch tomorrow!

Amazing food. Try the grilled chicken salad and the chicken tequila fettucini ... wow !! Pizzas are also really good made in wood fired oven which add a lovely taste. The staff is very friendly. I eat here a couple times a week. It never dissapoints !

I have been there around 30 times, 85% of them as a solo diner for lunch, and I certainly like the service, not even mention the scrumptious salads. I have severe dietary restrictions, and they have always accommodated my needs. If you like scrumptious salads, you will like this place. Ask for the Caesar dressing. I also recommend the tomato soup; broth-based, not cream-based.

Was 'innovative' to try out the in house steak instead of their signature dishes. Ordered a medium rare and done just the way i wanted! Juicy steak coupled with their Yellowtail draft beer made a mouth-watering combination. I must say, surprisingly very good steak, in spite of the fact that it's not their specialty. Will visit again!

Been waiting a while to get back here. They now have Gluten free pizza!! make sure you get the famous chopped salad and always leave room for a messy sundae!

We had a nice dinner here on May 3, 2013, having roast chicken/vegetables and a Chinese chicken salad, accompanied by a glass of the featured Reserve Rawson cab. Very acceptable meal and service at a medium price. Place at times has a lot of young children so there can be a certain noise factor, but a large seating area allows some flexibility for this. We returned on May 15, 2013 and had two different pizzas, the Rpyal Hawaiian and the NY Style with a bottle of the 14 Hand Merlot ("Wine Wednesday", half off; a few La Jolla restaurants do this every Wednesday). Food and service was again good. Both meals we took back half of the food for leftovers the next day, including half the bottle of wine!

Went here for an early lunch. We had Kobe beef sliders and the shrimp and grits. Both were very good. The shrimp and grits was served with chorizo and chard and the grits were so creamy, it was a bit too rich for a lunch. It was easy to burn off later while exploring La Jolla Cove and Shores! A nice clean interior, excellent service and good food at a reasonable price, who can ask for more? I would return here anytime.

We frequently walk the streets of La Jolla looking for a good spot to eat. We have been to Sammy's several times. It is a cozy little place, whether you dine inside our outside. While the pizza is just "average", the duck tacos are really delicious and I would recommend them. However, the best part of our most recent visit was the server. Her name is Lindsay. She was so personable and friendly! Go to Sammy's and ask for Lindsay. She makes the meal a really enjoyable feast.

The restaurant's decor is attractive. I really like eating at the bar where you can watch your food being prepared. Parking around the restaurant is at a premium. You may have to walk a couple of blocks. They offer outside covered seating and can handle a family or larger group. The menu has a variety of choices from duck tacos to pizzas, tapas, salads, pasta and other dinner entrees. The service is efficient and friendly. Wine selection is mediocre. They have a super sundae with lots of chocolate & nuts. The food generally is tasty to very good. I like the goat cheese pizza and do not like the margarita pizza which is covered with what taste like jarred garlic. You can order carry-out which usually takes about a half-hour. I have been eating here for over 10 years and feel the food is very consistent.

It was a beautiful evening and we decided to go and have dinner outside. Good menu good food and good service

This is a beautiful place, with outstanding pizza. Ordinary but nice looking outside, the inside is really sharp. Great menu, with absolutely delicious pizza. The wait staff is all good looking and very nice and efficient. Just a really good experience.

What a nice surprise when we asked a friend for a suggestion Saturday night in La Jolla. "Go to Sammy's" No wait, no fuss, good food at reasonable prices. The manager even approved using a gift certificate we had from several years back. Wait staff was good, efficient and attentive. We especially liked the Balsamic, roasted brussel sprouts--come before 6 and all the share plates are half off--Saturdays and Sundays, too. If you're daring--try the Messy Sundae-good for the entire table.

Decent pizza place if you don't want to stand in line at the Taco Stand down the street. The pizza was decent but the sauce leans towards the marinara side of the equation and tasted like it belonged on spaghetti more than a pizza. Very strong tomato flavor if that's your thing. Pretty good Caesar's salad that's kind of pricey ($10) but enough for two people to eat before their meal. We were a little surprised that we had to wait to sit when the place was only 2/3rds full but the food was fast once we were seated.

I ordered soup and salad...GREAT, the BEST tomato bisque I've ever had! Side salad was more than adequate! It was my birthday so we go a Messy Sundae to share with 5 of us...more than enough! The only downside was the service...understaffed!

Starting out- the service was very good and the setting very nice. The pizza crust was obviously frozen and was not cooked enough. The toppings were ok- nothing special. The fruit drinks were excellent.

I paid $33 for a noodle lunch and a nice glass of wine. And then the bill has an additional 4% surcharge. $33! Yes, I know it is La Jolla! Please lose the stupid surcharge. Food was good, service was good. But the surcharge .. marred the experience.

People teased us that we bought our house because it was a block from Sammy's. Well... it was indeed a consideration! We're here a lot! This is also my absolute go-to place for large groups of out of town guests -- you are guaranteed of finding something for everyone from vegans to carnivores, little kids to travel-browsers. With mediterranean influences from Italy and Spain to Lebanon and asian-inspired salads and appetizers, the menu is beyond eclectic and somehow it all just works. Part of the reason is indeed the owner who is on every one of his restaurants like the proverbial duck on a junebug. No sloppiness allowed. Ever. So much is good here. Their Caesar dressing is so good I buy a bottle every other week. Their bread is excellent. Love.love, love the goat cheese pizza. Everything is fresh and service is excellent, in spite of the sometimes brutal rushes they get. Everyone stays professional and friendly.

Skirt steak, Mediterranean sampler were very good. Kale salad had a little to much vinegar. Salted Carmel Pudding was great. Enjoyed our evening.

The food is always consistent and reliable. We miss the Chinese Chicken salad with the original dressing. Please bring it back.

Sammy’s has been a family fave for many years, we especially love their pizza and shrimp salads. We appreciate the convenience of the online ordering app

Great menu options and nice atmosphere. Waiter was very friendly and we enjoyed our meal - fresh, tasty and well cooked. They offer indoor and outdoor seating and the restaurant is very nicely decorated.

The service was good and when the cook made my husband a kids pizza instead of the adult size one, he was nice enough to bring it to him while the cook made the one he ordered, and gave us the small one with no charge. The pizzas were pretty good, although I wish my "spicy" Italian sausage pizza was even just a little spicy. The atmosphere was nice and the kids liked their food too. A little slow getting the check at the end but other than that it was a good experience.

We had dinner at Sammy's while staying in LaJolla. We shared their springtime salad and their veggie pizza. Both were reasonably priced ($35 with tip for two entrees and a draft beer) and absolutely delicious. There is sufficient soundproofing in the room so that it is easy to talk during dinner. It's a warm and inviting atmosphere. Great place to dine!

My wife and I stopped in for dinner on a Sunday. It wasn't too busy and we were seated quickly. I ordered the Mahi fish tacos. They were very good. You could taste that the fish was cooked over wood. My wife had the shrimp and grits. They were also very delicious. Very satisfied with our meal and experience.

A familiar place and familiar food is always a good thing to come back to. Every time I come to visit my friend, we come and dine here. It never gets old. You can tell because the place is always busy. The food is always yummy and fresh. Seating is plenty and servers are friendly and prompt to tend to you. The problem though is parking. Sometimes you have to park a few blocks to get here especially during lunch time. We ordered salad one with meat and one without. It was a great lunch.

Very friendly, helpful service. Great Pizza, salads, pasta, etc. Our group of 6 all ordered something different off the menu and no one was disappointed. The various types of bread were very good and we went back for 2nd visit during our week long vacation. Great atmosphere and we always have to order the cotton candy for our dessert.

This is the place to take the family for great pizza in La Jolla. We also had the Asian chicken wrap which was also very good.

A good bet for a good dining experience. we go there regularly and always enjoy it. A good choice for casual dining.

We stopped in for a cold drink and a snack. The service was good. So was the food. We were enjoying ourselves until the horde of children at two separate tables were set loose. The parents were oblivious to the melee that ensued. The restaurant did little to keep control of the environment. As I said, the food and service was good. Maybe a little too child friendly for me...

It was a Saturday night and we were hoping to get into another restaurant nearby but stumbled into Sammy's. It was pretty decent though I was a little unsure of the fare because almost all the other restaurants were packed and this one was not. However, our group ordered a pizza, some pasta and the baja fish tacos. The food was pretty good, especially for the price paid. We also had some of their signature drinks with 1/2 of the alcohol. They tasted very bland and weak. Overall, the meal was good and service was on top of it. I certainly would come back when I am in town.

The restaurant is attractive, location good and service attentive. The food however, is mediocre. My Angel Hair chicken pasta was particularly poor- an enormous helping of over cooked pasta, with very little chicken. It was bland and tasteless. Pizzas were an improvement but, although they are woodfired, the base was rather dry and underwhelming. I would guess the bases are not made fresh. The house wine was also overpriced at $30 a bottle.

My wife and I came here for lunch in early May. The Margherita pizza was delicious and a good value. The salad was huge and it was a good thing that our server told us to split it.

Glad the restaurant reopened in its iconic La Jolla Location. Still Providing La Jollans with the quality food they have enjoyed for almost 30 yaears.

We have always enjoyed Sammy's but during the pandemic this Sammy's has become our "go to" weekend restaurant. The outside patio is really nice, with ample shade and it's been recently renovated with super comfy booths. All workers wear a mask and the tables are all sanitized. The last couple visits Kellen has been our server (also the manager?). He is friendly and very attentive and makes our experience there that much better. We always get the Balsamic Grilled Chicken salad and hummus (best in town) and usually the mini Duck Tacos, but yesterday we tried the Sweet Chili Wings instead. OMG they were so tasty and finger licking good! They have a good beer selection for my husband and I love their passion fruit/tropical iced tea. I highly recommend this Sammy's for a great meal on their nice patio.

This is one of the best places I have been to in la jolla. they have amazing pizza and pasta. often we do take out and the food is just as good. If you are looking a nice place to eat with fast searvice this is the place. The wateriness are nice and sammys has a outdoor seating and a indoor seating. I would recomend this place to anyone who is looking for a family place to eat at.

Restaurant gets busy but is worth a wait (which on 2 occasions we went there was no more than 30 minutes). Staff were pleasant and service was good. Pizza was delicious, pasta dish with shrimp was really good. All food we had came out hot and freshly prepared. Nice patio. prices were very reasonable and great place to take kids.

Yesterday we were in LaJolla for the day. One of our group of four (cute girl - picky eater) had her heart set on pizza. A local recommended Sammy's Woodfired Pizza. After walking about 0.7 miles, we found Sammy's. All four of us loved our food. My cheese pizza was great. One of our group fell in love with the aioli sauce which came with the Fantastic fries. After eating it with his fries he asked for more to eat with his BBQ chicken pizza. (If he had a syringe with him, he might have tried to inject it). I absolutely loved the lobster Mac and cheese. Little bits of lobster were a treat, and although the taste of the lobster was definitely there, it wasn't overpowering. I need to try to copy this at home. Definitely one of my favorite dishes ever!

This was just so good...The Original Chopped Chicken is simply great, the goat cheese and italian sausage pizzas are out of bound :-)

Delightful place to take the kids. Excellent chopped salads, beet salad, and Italian main courses. The food is better than any of the chain restaurants and its comparably priced.

Great wood fired pizza, with high quality ingredients, this is the first Sammys to open, but be advised they had a fire several months ago and I am not sur when they will reopen, so call ahead. Yheir chopped chicken sald and the kale and quinoa salad are both very good. Was a nice place to have dinner, I am sure it will be just as nice or better when they finally reopen.

Our family of 6 shared 5 pizzas a few weeks back and they were fabulous. Service was also friendly, attentive, helpful and first rate. Happily recommend to anyone that want's some great pizzas (other meals from other tables looked great also)

Stopped by for pizza. Got a Hawaiian, ham and pineapple, and a New York, various meats and spicer. Loved rage rim crust, very tasty but the main body crust very thin and soggy with oil. No chunks of pineapple on pizza but flavor was there. Two pizzas (12 inch each) were enough for 3 adults. Great friendly service, nice clean place. Pizzas were good but too skimpy and oily for higher stars.

We had only 20 minutes to spare and they were very accommodating. We selected a delicious arugula based salad. It came fast, and we took part home for later. Staff was helpful in choosing what could be ready fast. Lovely experience.

We have ordered pizza from here and have found it to be delicious. Recently we visited the place and ordered the Goat Cheese woodfired pizza. It was ABSOLUTELY DELICIOUS. Loved the mushrooms and onions on this pizza. We have ordered the Burrata & Pesto and the Margherita pizza which were alos delicious. Unlike some other places they do not offer a bread basket. :(. The servers were very polite and professional. We enjoyed their service and attention. I would definitely go back to this place.

Everything we had was delicious - but the Asian chicken salad was heavenly. The best ever, anywhere. Fantastic quality grilled chicken on it, a huge, huge bowl (for the large $25 selection). The mini-sliders are excellent. Flavorful fish tacos. Friendly staff. I wanted to go back, but our vacation was too short. Nice, shady (umbrellas) outdoor seating, and plenty of indoor seating.

My food was wonderful. Each party had their own separate check. We all ordered before 6 pm which is during the happy hour where certain items are half off. We were charged full price since we all had separate checks. The manager would not correct our bill. The cost was minimal yet the fact that they were not willing to correct the bill was extremely disappointing service.

Shrimp salad is great, pizza is average. Service is good and slopy sundaes are good (but more toppings than ice cream)

Had lunch with my son here today. Service was good sat outside and it was pleasant. Had the Mahi fish tacos which were spicy and good. My son had the sausage pizza and enjoyed it. Good all the way around.

What can I say, it's a pizza. Okay. Nothing special. Overpriced for a pizza as it is a restaurant. Better value elsewhere but pizza is a safe bet for tourists.

Took the family here for dinner and we all had a great time eating organic, delicious, quality food with great wine and beer.

I love chopped salads. Real "chopped" salads and Sammy's offered that and it did not disappoint. I had it with grilled chicken. It was enough for 4 people! It could have used a bit more dressing to my taste but it was still wonderful. That along with a piece of margarita pizza made a lovely meal. The only issue was the pizza was served a good while before we got our salads which wasn't what I had in mind. I recommend being specific about what order you want your food served.

It's hard to be disappointed at this chain! We are locals and this is our "go to" place when we don't want to try anything new. The food is consistently good. Quality is great! Lots of local La Jolla's love this place! It doesn't seem to be as crowded as Del Mar. Easy to dine indoors or outside. We love their pizzas and caesar salad. The roasted asparagus is also great. A little disappointed in the kale salad. I think the figs did not add to the flavor. If you want a great pizza and salad, you generally can't go wrong at any of their locations.

Had a great luncheon with a group of 8 gals and thoroughly loved all the salads especially Chinese chicken. THE MAHI TACOS WERE OK BUT WOULD NOT RECOMMEND. I HAVE EATEN At Sammy's many times last year and the PIZZAS ARE REALLY GOOD and chicken tequilla pasta excellent . Sloppy sundae is gigantic and yummy for a big group. They also have a room you can reserve for large group

Five of us went to dinner here to celebrate a birthday. Best choice that we could have made. The food was excellent. Well prepared and tasty. The tomato soup was very good but recommend that you order it with 'light oil' otherwise, it is a bit heavy. Most of us had salads but one in our party had the Salmon Filet. We all helped polish off that dish! This isn't a 'fancy' place per se but they made you feel right at home and it was pretty clear that making you comfortable was a high priority. Service was good - the food did take a bit of time to arrive but was spot on when it did. Be sure to try the Messy Sunday...a group desert for sure!

Excellent atmosphere: roomy and intimate at the same time. Excellent service, food and value. The Brussel sprouts are outta this world. The woodfired pizza yumm. Our server made spot-on wine recommendations.

Limited but good wine list, Starters esp Garlic bread served like a pizza was awesome. Salad was fresh and crispy. We had a pizza for our main course too and it was yum. The breads were fresh and warm. Very nice ambiance in the outside sitting area and friendly and quick service!!

Appetizers were delicious! They also offer gluten free options which is very helpful! Highly recommend

Wonderful place, great service, delicious pizza and to die for desserts.

Nice salads and pizza options. All tasted great and worth trying. Side sauces are available with your meal.

My sister and I just spent three days in La Jolla. The food at Sammy’s Pizza and Grill is so good you want to come back and try something else on the menu. We tried the hamburger sliders and a pasta meal the first day. We had truffle fries as an appetizer. They were so good and left you wanting for more. The sliders and pasta were so good there was nothing left on your plate. On the second day we had more truffle fries, a Greek salad and a shrimp/spinach salad. So, so good. The presentation was beautiful and the food to die for. The service on both days was top notch. The servers kept coming back appropriately to see if we needed anything. The restaurant was very clean and food was served in a timely manner. I wish we had one of these in Denver, CO.

We (my wife plus kids 9 and 11) had dinner here in Aug 2014. Though we got there after 8pm, the place was still pretty lively. My wife had a shrimp salad that she was happy with. My son had a mozzarella cheese pizza which turned out to more or less be a traditional Margherita pizza which was excellent. I had what was listed as a Margherita pizza - it was good but had mozzarella and tomato slices rather than a tomato sauce as in a traditional Margherita. On the flip side, my daughter's kids meal consisting of pappardelle with marinara sauce was tasty but not sufficient - she was still hungry afterwards. And she's a petite thing to boot. She had to order a second kids meal of sliders which were very good. Service was cheerful and friendly throughout. All in all, a good experience.

With so many restaurants to chose from in La Jolla this is a great choice. The wait staff is very helpful and nice. The food is wonderful, if your not to hungry the lobster bisque is a great choice. The desert is wonderful. The messy sundae is great for a group, but you probably don't want to eat it on your own. The mini doughnuts are addicting! Everyone there is kind and helpful for everything. Overall Sammy's is a great place for any type of group your with.

Excellent and unique pizzas and salads. We ordered carryout and the value was great. The service was excellent too.

We had an early dinner and a couple beers one evening at Sammy's. The menu was pretty big (more than just pizza) and even within the pizza category had lots of options. We chose one with proscuitto, pear, and arugula to split (2 of us) and this was quite tasty and enough for a small dinner. It's not a fancy place, but is a good place for a casual dinner.

We came across Sammy’s while out walking. The cheese bread was amazing. My husband had the Spicy chicken angel hair and he loved it. The pizza was also amazing. Nice quiet atmosphere the night we were there.

We visited there to celebrate our parents anniversary. The food and the service were great. There are a lot of choices for types of food. There were 9 of us and only 2 of us ordered pizza. I ordered the Thai chicken pizza and it was really good. Other people had lamb chops, fish, duck tacos, large salad, spaghetti and meatballs, etc. All the food was delicious. They also have a great happy hour menu Monday - Friday from 4-6pm. We want to go back and visit to take advantage of the half price appetizers during happy hour. Parking can be a challenge.

We went to Sammy's with our four grandchildren and all of us enjoyed our pizza. The kids' menu included other items but our grandkids chose their individual pizzas. They weren't disappointed and neither were we. Our pizza had a crispy thin crust and generous toppings. Brad, our server, was the best! We will definitely return if we're back in the area. Prices were very reasonable. Delicious pizza--great service--reasonable prices--a combination that can't be beat!

This restaurant was recommend by a friend that lives in La Jolla. The pizza was exceptional with a thin crust and just the right amount of sauce and cheese as well as the pepperoni I ordered. The beer selected was also very good. I recommend this place for families and couples seeking a quick meal with friendly service and good food.

Came into town hungry for pizza and looked this place up. We walked in and were pleasantly welcomed even though we had two toddlers. Fast service and knowledgable staff to direct us to the popular places. Pizza was so so but their clam chowder was ggggreat. We ate thus pizza twice!

They finally brought back the original Chinese Chicken Salad, but the lettuce was chopped too fine. They also have the original versions of the margarita pizza, which I like better than the current one. I go only to the Sammy's in La Jolla, so I don't know where this picture is from, but not the Sammy's I go to! The patio is very inviting - enclosed and with a large fire pit. If you eat meat, the kobe sliders are delicious!

Never disappointed here. Had a great gluten-free pizza, margarita pizza and the chicken chopped salad was great. Lots of big groups today so service was a little slow but she was great when she did come to the table

This is a very pretty restaurant, a nice place to spend an evening, with friendly (although somewhat inexperienced) service. The truffle fries were excellent and the best part of the meal. However, we had come for the pizza, and they looked delicious when they came out, but just didn’t taste like much. Mine was the garlic chicken, hers was the goat cheese. Very disappointing and I can’t explain why. Just the taste wasn’t there. Won’t be going back.

We stopped by for pizza and got a really good family meal for a reasonable price. The service and setting were excellent

The atmosphere is nice and the menu looks great and we had some very good pizzas. The restaurant is a bit heavy handed on some weirder ingredients and some meals (especially the salads) look significantly too large. Most importantly, however, the staff seems to go through their motions rather than being happy to serve.

Admittedly, we'd hoped to have gone to the fish restaurant next door, but access was denied. We ended up in Sammys and this was no bad thing at all. The 4 of us went for a selection of shared menu options; fish, meat, vegetarian, all excellent. Good for families and couples, but as a group of colleagues we had a fine time too.

We visited on Easter evening and the kitchen and wait staff seemed a bit overwhelmed with the number of customers. It seemed like they were receiving a large number of take out orders and couldn't keep up. The pizza was very good. We ordered a procciuto pizza and a burrata and pesto pizza and they were great. Pizzas are quite large for one person.

Such a wonderful, friendly staff to serve always delicious food. The sun-dried tomato pizza and chopped chicken salad are my favorites. They have also added some mini-donuts to the menu and they are a perfect light dessert to share.

We have been eating here for years. During this span, the size of salads has decreased which is disappointing. But we had the worst lunch ever there last week when we ordered the goat cheese pizza with a gluten-free crust. The crust was abominable and left a truly bad taste in our mouths. We were told that this is the only crust the restaurant doesn't make. We gave them a recommendation to Cali'flour pizza crusts made with cauliflower. We were not offered a refund and did not finish the pizza. We were told they would make it up to us in future, but it will be a long time before we return. And even the amount of cheese and vegetable on the pizza was small.

Sammy's has a menu with nice choices. We went with a total of 6 people, two of which were children. It was easy for all of us to find something we wanted and everyone was happy with their order. I had the kobe beef sliders and they were yummy. Two of us had the fish tacos and they were both happy with them. One of the little people had pizza and liked it. And the other adult and child shared the hummus plate along with the red quinoa salad. We are all very happy with our choices. The atmosphere of the restaurant is nice, whether you choose to dine inside or outside.

Relaxed atmosphere. Sat on the terrace with fire. Quite cosy. Food is ok and reasonably priced. Service is quick and polite.

We had dinner here on our first night in La Jolla. The place was about one-half full, but the noise level was deafening, primarily due to very loud background music. We sat on the enclosed outdoor terrace and we could still barely hear each other. We both had chicken, which was pretty good, but the service was slow.

The tables were dirty. Service was poor and the food was terrible. Don't waste your time and money! The pasta was overcooked, sauce was greasy, chicken had no taste. My daughters pasta was equally poorly cooked. The waitress had better things to do than wait on her tables I guess. All in all terrible visit.

My teenage daughter and I ate here during our recent trip to CA and we loved it. We tried the garlic cheese bread, five cheese pizza & New York style and fell in love. Wish they had one in Texas

There are several Sammy's around town. I actually tried leaving a review for the location at Del Mar Highland's shopping center in Carmel Valley but I didn't see one. It's funny as I would never pick to go to this place but the last few client meetings I've had, I drove down to where my clients worked so they picked and both times they picked Sammy's. The first time I went it was at the location in Mission Valley. The location in Mission Valley is in a strip mall and the inside is nothing special. I got a pizza but it really wasn't that good. I thought it was strange that a place known for their pizzas wasn't that good. My client got a salad and mentioned to me it was the best thing they had. Then earlier this week I had another meeting with a client. Only this client worked in Carmel Valley so he chose the place again. This Sammy's was also in a strip mall location but the strip mall is very upscale (Del Mar Highlands Shopping Center). I've been here many times as it's not far from my house. The restaurant is definitely much nicer than the other one in Mission Valley and it was actually totally packed. This time I got a pasta dish and it was quite good. My client got a chicken balsamic salad that looked amazing and he also told me the best thing to get at Sammy's is the salads. I'll come back next time and try a salad. The pizza wasn't anything special to me and very blah. Pretty good pasta and seems like everyone raves about the salads.
Good for families - delicious salads
Had lunch here with my wife and two kids. Children each had a pizza and my wife and I shared a pizza and salad. The pomegranate salad was delicious. Family shared the Messy Sundae as a dessert and the waitress was good enough to tell us before we ordered that it would be probably be enough for all of us, which it was (see picture). Service was friendly and efficient.
