A San Antonio Surprise

By April L |

We drove by the San Antonio Winery Tasting Room in Paso Robles, CA. That tasting room used to belong to another winery. Should we stop or not? Since we live near San Antonio, TX, we decided - Sure, why not. And it was a delightful surprise. The tasting room was large, beautiful and well laid out for numerous groups to taste wines. The wines were reasonably priced and flavorful. The chocolate flavored wine was a great dessert treat. A good deal for the money! We ended up bringing a whole case back to Texas. P.S. We did not visit the LA location. We went to the Paso Robles location.

Sunday lunch with a group of 40+ friends

By 104stevenp |

We were a group celebrating a 20th anniversary of a club to which we all belong, so we agreed to have lunch together. The restaurant offered us a private room, but it was not sound insulated from the main restaurant, so when we wanted to make speeches, present awards and the like we were almost drowned out by the musak from the main room. The menu selections seemed to be good, and apart from some of the chicken breasts (mine included) being dry (and so dry the mushroom sauce couldn't overcome it!) it was a memorable occasion.

Harvest Festival at the San Antonio Winery

By Tia Minnie |

We had an amazing time at the Harvest Festival at the San Antonio Winery. We went with our friends so it was five of us in total. We bought the general admission tickets and thought that the price of admission was well worth everything we got. Great food trucks all you can eat and lots of choices, all you can drink wine or beer. Great live entertainment, two bands, grape stomping, and a DJ lots of fun! We will be making this an annual harvest outing.

"A tried and true favorite"

By Cheryl P |

Have visited the San Antonio Winery many times over the years, for special occasions as well as for casual lunches. Diners go through a line cafeteria style to select and pay for the meal. A server then brings your food to the table. To help you make your selection, the entrees are on display as they will appear on your plate. The food portions are HUGE, and a salad is included with the meal. Sandwiches plates are also available. I had the pasta with meatballs which was very tasty. The prices may have gone up a bit, but it's still a good value. Free wine tasting is also available. A few travel tips: If you don't know the area it can be a bit hard to find and there is some street construction going on. The restaurant is located just off North Main Street on Lamar. If you're traveling northbound on the surface streets, within about a mile of the restaurant you may see a large sign advertising the San Antonio Winery. As you continue driving hopefully you will see San Antonio banners on the street posts, and you'll know you're getting close. A tried and true favorite, would definitely go back.

We ate breakfast here on a Sunday morning. We parked on the street right outside and got in just before the rush around 8. The pancakes were huge and amazing!!!

Great Way To Celebrate A Birthday

By Glena242015 |

My two friends and I spent the day at The San Antonio Winery! We were celebrating one of my friend’s birthday! We started off with lunch! The cafeteria style setup provides delicious food and comfortable seating as ell as good service from the waiters! We then took a free tour of the winery which runs every hour on the hour! We started with the photographic history of the winery! We were able to see the various meeting rooms which people can rent. They run from small and intimate to large! We also saw the process for fermenting the wines to bottling, labeling and packaging the wines! Finally, we ended with wine tasting! Also, there is a gift store in the winery. It was a perfect way to celebrate our friend’s birthday! Oh and the location is easy to get to and there is plenty free parking! I’d definitely visit The San Antonio Winery Again!

A Crowd Pleaser!

By SueDen27 |

The huge negative for us was the no reservation and long line wait for lunch today- over 40 minutes. If we had been there on our own we would have left but stayed because friends had arranged it. The whole setup is a bit like the restaurants in theme parks - very well organised and you feel like you’re on a conveyor belt in a factory production. Having said all this, at the end we actually enjoyed the experience and the food was good- all helped along with several glasses of Vino. All the food is visible before you order and is delivered promptly. Good for groups but forget it for a romantic get together!

Nice Place, Good Service, Awful Wine

By 51impr |

Probably the worst wine at a wine tasting I've ever had, but the server was surprisingly knowledgable and attentive. The location is good with better parking than most in that area, and a well-appointed tasting room. The food was actually pretty good.

Not Bad but Not Really Good

By LA_Phil_1 |

We went here as a work sponsored group lunch. There were a variety of dishes around the table including the beef and potatoes, the linguini shrimp dish and others. The food was good but not great or even above average. Service was pretty good but with a large group you would have expected someone checking in more often than they did. I was hoping for some bread and it took awhile to catch a waiter and when I did it took another while for him to bring it. Meanwhile one of my workmates gave me hers so by the time the bread arrived I was done. The portions are generous so I guess the higher priced lunch works out. But only if you're someone who takes food home. I would say it's a fun place to take a date but not on a romantic date. It's sort of like a cafeteria style set up. You pick your lunch from plates of food displayed on a table and then place your lunch order in a line, taking your salad and dessert to your table. They bring your meal to your table when it's done. Also you walk through their novelty shop to get to the restaurant ordering line.

Great little gem near downtown LA

By akrb310 |

On a work trip to LA and my client took me to this winery/restaurant. The food was amazing and they have the cutest shop with tons of gifts, specialty food and wine of course!! It’s beautiful and I loved the atmosphere, highly recommend!!

The restaurant is called Maddelena, I think

By mommyinmotion |

We stopped in at the winery & had a light lunch here. They had lots of offerings--sample plates are displayed as you come in. You decide what you want, order, pick up a beverage, pay & then are seated. We had the clam chowder (yum) with side salad (bread was included, 2 big pieces each) and we each had a glass of wine. The meal hit the spot and cost right around $30. The place was bustling, even though it was 2 pm, so I imagine it's more crowded around meal times. There was a gentleman playing the sax while we ate. If you're visiting the winery or in the area, eat here!

Awesome

Romantic

By ryanwest |

The San Antonio Winery is located off the beaten path of most downtown LA restaurants. They recently remodeled so that when you enter you are in the wine tasting room. When entering the restaurant area, there is not a traditional printed menu. The entrees are displayed on two tables opposite the ordering station. Desserts and salads are displayed next to the ordering station. After placing your entrée order you can add your dessert order and drink order, including wine by the glass or bottle. You proceed to the register to pay and then the wait staff carries your tray and seats you. Once your order is ready, the wait staff delivers it to your table. Over the past 10 years, we have tried a number of the entrees at this establishment. The raviolis are made in house and are quite good, especially the lobster ravioli. The pastrami is also a good choice. The unique atmosphere allows for both family dining and romantic dining. They often have live music which adds to the romantic aspect. This is the type of restaurant the regulars visit often and tourists seek.

One of the nice places to eat and to grab your wines of your choice. No rush, excellent service and very pleasant staff for wine tasting.

Menuless

By Charlie V |

The Restaurant inside is actually called the Maddalena and its a place to get great food, large portions and no wasting time needing to look at a menu. All the meals that are available at the moment are on display on tables that you can see while waiting on line. They serve breakfast up to 1:30 and bring out a wider selection for the lunch crowd such as more sandwiches. But have no fear Lasagna is out there early. My PestoTurkey Pannini sandwich just got out as I arrived and my wife Barbara had the Lasagna. Great atmosphere with live music playing in corner. Full assortment of wines, beers, sodas ready for purchase at register. Just pay and follow waiter to your table as that your food will be brought to you. Stop in to sampling room first for your 3 free samples to set the mood. Bartenders are friendly and well educated in there wines and you can purchase before you eat and pick up later....Life is good !

Surprisingly Good

By benny3345 |

A couple of locals suggested this place, and I wasn't sure what to expect when I saw the cafeteria style ordering process. I got the Rib-Eye Sandwich which turned out to be very good. All the food looked good, but the plated dinners seemed a little pricey, again, given the cafeteria style. There is table service after you order your food. We were able to try some wine with dinner which was nice. I liked the atmosphere with the wine barrels and they were beginning to decorate for the holiday season. Overall I would consider this very casual dining, but pretty good.

Cafeteria Inside the Winery

By LolaLola |

I haven't eaten in a cafeteria since ....well....since High School! While the pictures posted here look nice, looks can be deceiving. I set a lunch date with a girlfriend of mine at this Winery because of hearing all the talk about the winery and because they sell my favorite Stella Rosa and Moscato DiAsti. Needless to say, I was very disappointed with the restaurant portion of the winery. I was not expecting to pick my food out of a line-up of pre-made dishes sitting on a counter behind glass as I slid my tray down a rail. The food was bland and old tasting and not at all what I expected from a family owned business. The winery on the other hand was not bad. I was able to taste a few samples and eventually picked a new bottle to take home. The Stella Rosa and Moscato are better priced at the winery then at Bevmo or some other place. This was definitely a plus but not to the point that I would make the extra effort to drive to L.A. to save a couple of bucks.

A must-do whenever you're nearby!!

By irtorres |

NEVER disappointed with the wine, food, service or atmosphere!!!! The owner is always somewhere inconspicuously watching and giving great, friendly recommendations - which I normally follow. He hasn't steered me wrong yet!! Stop by and visit on your way to or from Chinatown or Olvera Street shopping - you'll love it!

Surprisingly good food - and fun - the place is huge

By Traveling_a_lot4fun |

So I realize that the visit here is mostly about the winery - but the food in restaurant was actually pretty good. The "menu" are trays of sample dishes and then you order at the counter and are handed a "number" so that you can get your food - we were pleasantly surprised to find that they could customize the dishes despite the conveyor belt feel. There is a host to help you party find a table and the servers are very helpful in bringing more water, coffee etc...they are very friendly and helpful. While we were there a busload (literally) of vineyard tourers came to lunch and some of our group was stuck on the other side of 50 diners. We were all impressed with how quickly and effectively they moved everyone through - it was only a short while. Impressive. We left after lunch as we are not winery enthusiasts but we understood it was a good time.

mummmm the wine

By LovelyLady95 |

I first tasted the Stella Rosa red wine and I loved it, But when i went to my local wine store in Apple Vally I tasted the Moscato D" Asti and I love that one much much better.it"s great. Looking forward to taste more.

This place is has been around forever! They have alot of good wines and other spirits. The food is good. A little pricey, but a good serving amount. You can take a tour of the winery and once in awhile they have live entertainment. It good for groups or private parties.

Great spot for wine tasting and good food

By sworrels |

I was in the downtown area during rush hour after picking up someone from Union Station. We decided to go to San Antonio Winery to grab a bite to eat and wait until traffic it died down. I love that they continually update their menu and everything is always delicious and fresh. I had the Ahi tuna salad and it was very very good. My husband had salmon and he was very satisfied. Of course they have a great wine selection, wine tasting and And a gift shop with tons of unusual gifts the wine drinker. The service is over-the-top excellent the prices are reasonable and there's parking available.

I actually went to the Ontario location. It was nice with free samples. The atmosphere was laid back and the staff was great.

Sunday lunch at Maddalena Restaurant

By myarredondo |

Let me just start off by saying you can’t go wrong with this place. The menu changes every week and it includes items such as pastas, salad, meat and seafood. There are also a couple of items for children also. Very nice atmosphere with live music playing on the weekend we were there. You can also order a glass or bottle of wine from their vineyard to compliment your meal. Also know before you go, as the holidays get closer they do tend to get busier with large group reservations and events. Even if you don’t eat at the restaurant, they have a nice tasting room where you can sample their wines with a bistro right next to it for a quick snack.

Wonderful experience for after-noon brunch

By goldenwds |

The San Antonio Winery is a working winery in the heart of downtown Los Angeles. The Winery has been there for generations. There is a separate wine store where you can taste at least 3 wines. I purchase 3 bottles of San Antonio Heritage 2009 vintage (a blend four different grapes from family's establish vineyards). We ate in the restaurant which is cafeteria style ordering process. The restaurant within Winery called Maddalena after the wife of the original owner. My wife & I got the Pastrami Sandwich which was very good. My grandson 14 years old ordered child's portion of meat-balls spaghetti and said that is was much better than Olive Garden's meat-balls spaghetti where we ate few days earlier. Having a late brunch is must due if you are spending some time in Los Angeles.

Amazing and very unique place

By Pantila P |

We had a small tour around the winery before going for our lunch by the manager of the place "Dominic". He was one of the greatest manager I've ever known. I found it very interesting and the place itself is not just providing a good ambience but very tasty food from the Resturant as well. Worth to come visit!!!!

My Friend George took me to this gem while i was out visiting last month. Wine tasting was really nice, tour was even better. Dning. Yes he had reservations, good thing as it was busy. I really enjoyed this place. Would go back.

We had the Pastrami and the Lasagna

By Kim Ross W |

They have big servings so just those two dishes were shared by the three of us. The servers were very attentive too.

A little out of the way, but worth the stop

By hufa97 |

We stopped here one afternoon, after seeing some mixed reviews on TripAdvisor. We strictly went for wine tasting and it was great. You get three free wines to taste, or you can pay for 5 for $8 or $10. We has Jesus serving us and he asked what we liked and gave us recommedations based on that. He was friendly (a little too used car salesman for me) but enthusiatic. The food in cafeteria looked good but we weren't hungry. Am sorry didn't buy any wines since we had fly home, they were tasty.

Fun way to spend the day

Had a great day with the family, went on a wine tour and did a tasting then had some dinner. It is close by and all the employees here are very helpful and easy to talk too.

Girl friends day out!

Shopped downtown LA Fashion District & ended with this wonderful winery! The girls were from NAPA Valley and loved it! They have many wineries to choose from in Napa but want to return here next time they're in town!

Top Shelf-Wonderful Experience

By TCBJ36Yrs |

The winery in amazing. Their signature wines are outstanding. Rated 90 points+. The staff is friendly informative. Their tasting menu is perfect with a great selection and you have a choice to mix and match your tasting selection. The have both reds and whites for their vineyards up along the the northern California coast and from Italy as well. The gift shop is nothing short of amazing. Highly recommend having brunch in their restaurant, the Maddalena, then do more tasting and shopping. Be prepared to wait if you get there during meal time..it's very popular and and excellent value.

Great service, great food, great wine

By Lovinlivin53 |

During a bus tour of LA we stopped for lunch at the San Antonio Winery. Because of the tour our menu choices were limited, but the offerings were still plentiful and delicious. I had the mushroom ravioli with creme sauce. Others around me were all thrilled with their choices and felt it was an excellent meal and very filling. The atmosphere is very casual and the dress of those in attendance ranged from jeans to business suits since it appears to be very popular with the surrounding businesses. The winery has a decent gift shop with a variety of items and a wide range of prices. A little something can be found for everyone including gifts for friends and family. The highlight, of course, is the wine. There is a complimentary tasting of three wines from their list. I prefer sweeter wines and purchased several different ones after sampling them; all at a very reasonable price. It is time and money well spent to visit, dine and sip (and buy) at the San Antonio winery.

Winery Bliss

By Niketa C |

First of all this is totally a spot that you want to make a day of. Go there and enjoy the free hour tour of the historical venue and the owners. Then end with a complimentary wine tasting. They have some of the best to taste from I might add. My fav is the stella rosa orange sparkling moscato. Then make your way to the restuarant. I would make reservations it has always been crowded on all my trips there. You can choose from many different selections in a cafateria type of style. Almost reminds me of the historic cliftons downtown. I heard that on some days they play jazz as well. Perfect for a date, a company lunch, holiday party or even a reception of some sorts! Def recommend you going there!

Awesome surprise

By Daniele C |

What an unexpected surprise! In the middle of a somewhat industrial area, you are transported to a winery that could be in Napa! Fabulous food, good wine and large gift shop with wonderful gifts. We were so happy to have found this place.

Not a wine fan, but I recommend the Stella Rosa.

Historical & Unique

By Martha P |

San Antonio Winery has a wonderful history. I would recommend that you do a little research to learn about it before you go. It is a beautiful working winery in downtown Los Angeles. Ample and convenient free parking. This is heaven for a wine-lover. There is every kind of wine you could ever hope for. Enjoy the wine-tasting, browse the gift shops where they sell preserves, desserts, etc. We were there for lunch and their procedure is very organized. They have the selections displayed on 2 tables (with the prices which are very reasonable). The hostess directs you to the counter where you give your order. Our drinks, salads, and bread were placed on trays, then you pay the cashier. Then a server carries your tray to your table. A short time later our entrees arrived. We had the salmon and it was very good. Staff is very attentive and friendly. We weren't rushed. Nice ambiance. Wish it were closer so we could go there more often. But we will definitely go back. Whether you're a tourist or not, if you're looking for a unique experience, go here!

A fantastic spot!

By Oscarsee |

Ok, whatever positive reviews that you have read about here; is TRUE! Came with my family and we initially planned to just spend about 2 hours here. Guess what? We overrun our schedule and ended up spending almost 4 hours here. Hector was brilliant in bringing us on a short tour, followed by wine tasting; explaining to us the different types of wine that we were trying. The challenge came when we decided to buy more than what we could carry home as we were from a foreign country. However if you’re not someone who enjoys wine, then it’ll most likely be boring. Do have lunch here as they serve delicious Italian fare.

2nd Time Around

By GI-LaJane |

I am a member of a Senior Center and today we had a day trip for lunch. The food was wonderful and the servings were large. We had more than 14 people on that outing. Everyone was more than nice and we had excellent service. Also before leaving you have to enjoy the wine tasting and the opportunity to purchase some of the many wines they offer. So if you want to have a wonderful meal the winery is the place to go. The prices were great too!!!!

Suprising

By NanceeLeeAllen |

Don't let the cafeteria style service fool you -- this place has excellent food! The food is fresh and well prepared and the staff are friendly. Even friendlier if you partake of wine tasting before lunch or dinner!

Celebrated my bday here!

By C4-421 |

I have visited this place before on a Covina Bus Trip so on my birthday I wanted to come back to experience the full menu and have wine-tasting as part of it. Wine Tasting Counter is there as you walk in; Gift shop you can walk through and the restrooms! Passing all that you’ll get to the fully cooked meals on display for you to see, hot and cold meals, salads and desserts. Grab a tray tell them what you’d like and the drink you’d like and as you pay - a waiter/waitress will come take your tray and seat you!!! SO nice and come by often to get any thing you need!’ The tables are long rectangle ones so you’ll be seared with others but the noise level and crowds and I still didn’t even realize others were around. I had Portobello Ravioli, a salad, arnold palmer drink and of course decadent chocolate cake! After eating we got - to go containers- and went to visit the gift shop. I purchased dipping sauces, fresh cheeses, fig jam and wafers, italian cookies, and a set of wine lip balms!! Then it was off to the ladies room which was clean and spacious!! Best thing yet the wine counter- there many attendees to help- a menu on counter- to sample any four kinds is priced from $5-$7. Of course I had to sample the Chocolate Wine when I came on bus trip, but this time I sampled a Reisling, Stella Rosa Black, green apple, and a rosa. Yummy!’ of course I took home a sample pack of the Stella Rosa- all four and then the sample pack of Patròn Tequila!

Okay, for an LA Winery

By luv2vacation4ever |

I agree with the one review that the food is like a cafeteria setting. You enter a line where you look at all of the available food on tables and counters. The dishes are covered with plastic wrap and you make your decisions and then order from the counter. They do bring the food to you once you sit down with your item card at the table. The drinks are overpriced and not very good. The Sangria was not worth buying-tasted more like something you’d get in a low budget bar in the Caribbean. However, some of their wines are better-so go with the wine. Whether good or bad, we had been warned about the food being pretty awful. However, in defense of this establishment's restaurant, I enjoyed my veggie salad. I did ask around about the other dishes, which were primarily pasta at our table of 12, and everyone said the same thing "It was okay, but not great." They said the pasta tasted pretty bland and wasn't worth the price, but it wasn’t horrible either. Again, cafeteria style, but slightly better. As for the wine tasting, the tour is okay-our guy was super nice, but the event itself wasn’t anything amazing. The building is nice because it has history, but there isn't much else to see. We had a private party for a birthday, so we were able to do the wine tasting with the group we were with and not be crowded into a very small room with a bunch of random people. Unfortunately, their wine tasting room is extremely small in the front of the building and doesn't make for a comfortable environment for relaxing and tasting wine. With that said, they have done a nice job of making the building aesthetically appealing from the outside to the inside and the decorations are nicely appointed. If you can do the private event, makes for a better atmosphere because you have more room to socialize with your friends. I wouldn't say this would be somewhere we would go again, being that we live in Orange County, but for people who are too far from Temecula and Santa Barbara, it’s a nice and quaint wine tasting event.

Old school since 1917

By Creeping_Death_LA |

Since we are still in the C19 pandemic the restaurant is taking all types of precautions. You order your food inside and then the waiters will bring the food to the outdoor dining area. The food was a bit pricey but the amount of food you receive you could actually share it between two people. We went on a busy Sunday to celebrate a birthday but the waiter service was great.

Wonderful experience

By Bernard t |

We went to the San Antonio Winery to meet friends for lunch. First there is the winery itself, which you can tour to see the process. There are, of course, many great wine selections to choose There is a separate wine store where you can taste at least 3 wines gratis.. I bought 3 nice different bottles of Stella Rosa for $ 33. The restaurant had samples of their dishes served on display. I had the spaghetti and meatballs and my wife had the meatloaf. Salad and bread is included in the meal. You order your food from the counter and an employee takes your salad and drinks to your table. You can order wine by the glass or bottle at the counter also. They have a very nice menu with pasta, meat, and seafood selections as well as salads and desserts. Our food was brought to us nice and warm and it was very good. I ordered more wine after lunch and I was feeling no pain at the end. The atmosphere was very nice like being in a wine cellar with lights. There is also a souvenir store. All in all a great experience for a group or couple. I will return.

Great local winery!

Hector was the best! He started our wine tasting and then gave us the tour of the winery. He's been at the winery for 40 plus years and was so knowledgeable. This has definitely become one of our go to stops when we come to Los Angeles!

GREAT WINE, FOOD & TOUR!!!

By Brieanne1977 |

I wanted to tour the winery & do a wine tasting and after looking at their restaurant decided to do lunch as well. Jerry, our tour guide, was informative & funny! The wine sampling was free and most are offered by the glass at their restaurant (all on location). The food was great & reasonably priced. Their winery was a highlight on my trip to LA!!

Best-kept secret of Downtown LA!

By Kcarma |

It was my mom's birthday and she selected lunch at San Antonio Winery (again!). We got there early before the downtown workers start to line up. I had one of the best chicken piccata dishes I ever ate (as good as mine!) that came with rice and perfectly seasoned cut veggies. Each entree comes with a big size salad (bigger than any side salad you pay $10 for at 3-4 star restaurant) and crusty french bread. The entrees range from $12-$15 and we always take home the leftovers! My mom got the white fish with a pesto sauce and my aunt got an enormous portion of pappardelle with ragu. The trio of desserts was a bit disappointing - red velvet cake and cannoli - meh - carrot cake was the best. The service is outstanding for a cafeteria style joint. Don't forget to leave a tip!!! We bought wine to take home since you have to pass thru their wine store. Next time, we will sample some wine before we eat!

Just love it

By butgighung |

It's a wonderful place. Near downtown so we didn't have to drive hundred miles. We're not California wine lovers but the SA wines were quite good actually (esp. when considering the price we paid). The restaurant for the public was like a caffe. There were sample dishes displayed in a corner just like some Japanese restaurants. We ordered some take away and couldn't believe that our food was almost 100% as the sample. Plus the most important part was - the food was very delicious even after reheat!

Very decent food and fine wine.

By PH_PE |

The food ordering place is like a cafeteria. But they will help you take your tray and seat you. The food is very decent, medium price, with dishes from $10~$20. We tried Italian sausage with spaghetti, and salmon. The scampi spaghetti looked really good too, but the portion was too big. You can join a free tour of the winery on the top of every hour. It's very informative and interesting. You can also do wine tasting. The people who work at the wine tasting place are very friendly. They have some fine wines at reasonable prices.

Memorable Experience

By Sharon |

What a beautiful place to visit!! You are given wine samples when you enter the building, and there is a large selection of gift items to choose from. The meals are beyond delicious, service was great, and we even had live music while we were dining. It was a very memorable experience.

Great atmosphere

By Koollet4600 |

Had dinner here last night, beautifully decorated for the holiday's, the food was so-so, nothing to brag about, its set up like a cafeteria style, where you select the meal you want, and they will bring it to your table for large crowds, small dinner, you bring the tray to your table with your selection card, and they deliver. Food was very bland, nice variety selection of food items to select from. Of course, all the wine you want is there, no bad selections or choices of wine. Great store with gift items, a bit over priced, some items are on-sale, in all a great place to just hang out and have a nice glass of wine.

My 1st LA winery

Nice tasting room, gift shop and dinning areas. Great selections of Stella Rosa wines and other hard liquors, wines and other hard liquors. I had the pastrami sandwich, DELISH!!!!! Will definitely be back.

Consistently good food

By qhunnyb |

San Antonio Winery is a go to place for my friends for a lunch date. We work by Union Station so this is a quick drive. We always go early (before 11:30) to avoid the long lines. It's cafeteria style ordering. You go through a line and before you get to the counter there is a round table where they feature the entree's. You then place your order and they put the food on a tray. Then you pay you get a number and you are seated by a server. Your food is then delivered to the table. I've ordered lasagna, salmon salad, beef entrees, ahi tuna dish, and other pasta dishes here. Everything has been consistently good. The food is fresh and delicious and since the food is ready you don't have long to wait so it's an easy in and out if you are pressed for time (that is if you get there early). If you get in late then you will have to wait in line to place your order but it's worth it.

NIce and Romantic, but bland food ;o/

This place has a lovely atmosphere, but I wouldn't recommend eating here, the food is a little over priced and lacks flavor ;o(

Great food, Great wine.

San Antonio winery is always consistently great. Plenty of parking space. It gets really busy on weekends and holidays. They have a large selection of wine for tasting and purchase. My fave is the Stella Rosa. Mmmmm so good, if you like sweet wines. You save more if you buy a couple of bottles. The gift shop has unique stuff and is worth checking out. The restaurant has good food and the staff is amazing. Great place to go wine tasting and then have lunch. They also do wine tours!!!! THUMBS UP!!!!!

Always great! Family friends large party's

This cafeteria style restaurant has a varied menu that changes daily and includes pastas, fish, salads, and sandwhiches. Atmosphere is warm and colorful. The winery and the gift shop have a lot of varied and great gift ideas. I always enjoy eating here and meeting friends for lunch here.

Entertaining Guest

Had heard this Winery Tasting, Store, Cafeteria style restaurant was good. So I decided to take family in from Florida. Everyone's first time there. As you step into the tasting room up front, also the store with every type wine imaginable! Many different kinds of gifts............to the right along the back is where the restaurant sits. As you enter 2 large tables to the left with all the different dishes and sandwiches, salads wrapped in cellophane as displays. Proceed to the lines pick up your tray, utensils place order and any other item/dessert you may want. Quickly a server/waiter comes to your group walking briskly seats you to the table. once served if you needed something else it was hard to get their attention one had to say "Hey Hey look over here waving your hands all over the place!! Restaurant decorated beautiful and cheerful for the Christmas Holidays. Meals served within about ten minutes ..........Unfortunately my Meatball Sandwich bread was mushy and the large piece of lettuce with premade "store bought potatoe salad " was bland, blah and nothing to write home about. Totally tasteless. My husband's dish I don't recall what it was but his too sometime wasn't right?? Otherwise all my family enjoyed their meals and desserts. They also took the wine tasting tour which was quite amazing learning how wine is processed. At least they had a good experience. I would have given the restaurant a "Good" rating if the food had tasted better. Maybe perhaps I'll give them another chance.

Awesome food

Reservations advisable. Come early so you can find it during daylight hours. Then sit back and relax with a tour of the wine cellars and do take time to taste the excellent wines brewed and bottled at Antonio Wines. Dine at your leisure, no one feels rushed at this family owned business.

Great restaurant within the in the winery.

By Carlos R |

The restaurant is called Maddalena. Located inside San Antonio Winery. The menu is limited but the selections are very good. The restaurant staff is very helpful. The restaurant is very clean and decorated like a wine cellar with many tables. We have been going to this restaurant since it opened and to the winery for over fifty years. The restaurant has live music for the lunch crowd. The San Antonio Winery is located in a industrial section of Los Angeles, with good parking and a safe area it is worth the drive. The restaurant is located on Lamar St. two blocks south of N. Main St.

A Fun and Tasty Experience

There were five of us who decided to go on an outing for the day. The San Antonio Winery is a working winery in the heart of downtown Los Angeles. It has been there for generations. The restaurant within is called Maddalena after the wife of the original owner. The food is good and service was fine. It was a little odd in that the food on the menu for the day is displayed attractively on plates and covered in plastic wrap. You place your order at a window, choose dessert and beverage if you want, and pay for it all, cafeteria style. They carried our tray of drinks to the table along with rolls and butter. About 5 minutes later, our entrees came out. My husband and I split a Cobb Salad and it was very good. It was a little different than a traditional Cobb, but we knew what it would be like because we had seen it displayed, so no surprises. Our friends shared a Salmon Salad. It was a nice green salad topped with a good sized chunk of salmon. They enjoyed it. Our other friend had a Tuna Melt Sandwich. It looked really good and the cheese was real melted cheddar, not American cheese. It was grilled to perfection. We were there for lunch and arrived when it opened at 11am. It was not crowded at first, but was filling up by the time we finished lunch. Our service was good, but don't know about later when it was crowded. The ambiance of the room was casually elegant. It seemed about right for a winery. After our meal, we took the tour, learned about wine making, even met the winemaster. We visited the gift shop and tasting room. The gift shop had lots of different and unique items. Three free wine tastings were offered as well as a fee based tasting ($15) of some of their premium wines. It was a very pleasant experience all around for us and since we live about 40 minutes away, not too far to drive.

A little wine tasting in DTLA

I've been coming here for about 10yrs. Most recently to celebrate my wife's birthday with her family and our small children. Before that on and off on various occasions and the occasional Sunday after church. I've seen them expand their wine tasting room over the years and as well as the rooms and areas available to host special events. Let's not kid ourselves here, this isn't Napa Valley, but it does offer you an introduction to the wine tasting experience as well as an introduction to the various types of wines available out there. Their more popular wines are on the sweeter end and are the more common everyday eat with any meal or any occasion type of wines, and of course they offer all of the varieties. Their restaurant section hasn't changed much over the years and their portions remain bountiful and at a fair price adjusted over the years for inflation. This isn't a Michelin star restaurant or meals, but they are good and delicious. They seem to always have a sax player on the weekends entertain the lunch and dinner crowds. Overall the ambiance and experience is one that is tough to beat. I highly recommend it to any Angeleno or visitor to the area.

Hidden Gem!

This wonderful place is off the beaten path, but soooo worth the journey. Great food, wine and service, wrapped in wonderful/warm ambiance! This place works well for all types of events. I hosted my office holiday party in one of the private banquet rooms, attended a football team banquet in the main restaurant, taken their Wine 101 class (fantastic!), gone on the wine tour, as well as escaping with my husband on intimate dates/Sunday brunch. Also my go to place to stock up on wine and other spirits for the holiday season. Can't say enough good things about it, so you just have to go check it out for yourself!

Very nice lunch spot

A hidden gem! I have had lunch here about 5 times and each time impressed. This is a winery with a very nice restaurant in the back. As you walk into the restaurant, you can see each of the items available for lunch. Each entrée is wrapped in saran wrap and available for you to view. We have eaten the ahi tuna, sausage and meatballs with pasta, chicken alfredo, cobb salad, and chicken parmesan sandwich. All items were very tasty and recommended. Since the restaurant is located in a winery, you can order wine with your meal or go wine tasting before or after your meal. Enjoy.

Good fun

Visiting the winery and having lunch makes for a lovely afternoon. The selection of wines is excellent and so are the prices. The food is mediocre but definitely palatable. In place of a standard menu, the food is displayed. Nice touch. The atmosphere is fun and different. I love the San Antonio Winery!

Great decor and wonderful food!

This would be a great place to bring a first date, a spouse for an anniversary, or just a nice little getaway. The atmosphere is wonderful, service was great and the selection of food was great. You could buy wine by the bottle or by the glass. I would highly recommend coming for the experience of this family owned and run Italian restaurant. They even have a cute little gift shop and deli!

Unique and worth a visit!

The winery is a great place to have lunch with friends or a loved one. The food is good and the atmosphere unique. You can take a wine tour on certain days so plan ahead and then do a few wine tastings on the house. After that, relax and enjoy your lunch. Your friends, family, or loved ones will thank you for the experience.

Beautiful place and nice food

Our friend used to work there for so many years and he went back to his hometown couple months before. We heard alots of good things from him about this winery. So finally, we decided to go there on my husband birthday. We went there on a week day. This place has a huge parking lot and it is located in the middle of an industrial area. It has a beautiful dining area, but it is a semi- cafeteria style service. They serve salad, soup, sandwiches, pasta dishes, and desserts. The portion is big enough for 2 people and come with soup or salad. You can view your selection from the table and order yourself. The food tasted good and I will definitely go there again. After the lunch, we joined the free tour around the winery. It was interesting and the tour guy is very knowledgeable. May be it was a weekday, so we were the only ones in the group. It's like our private tour. :)Then we headed to the shop to taste some wine. We chose 5 different wines, and the Stella Rosa is the best of all. I love the taste so much and I recommend to all the ladies. The people there are so friendly, helpful, and no pressure to buy. However, we brought 2 cases of red wine. One case, of course is the Stella Rosa. The price is fair. So we really had a great time and you guys should bring your friends there. But when it is around lunch time, it may get pretty crowded.

Really a Hidden Gem...

I’ve had some really great tasting food at this place many times in the past, and every time we visit, we’ve been impressed again and again… Not just with the quality of the food, but also with the selections and the friendly service… This restaurant is really a hidden gem, located inside San Antonio Winery on Lamar Street in Los Angeles (near downtown), California… The winery is the last surviving local winery which still operating in the city proper… I believe that it is about one hundred years old and offer a great wine tasting room with a nice atmosphere… They also have a great selection of delightful pastries… I look forward-to going back there again and I think that you’ll love the place too…

Visited the oldest winery in LA

By Stephanie S |

This was a great find. We got to tour their factory and hear about how they started. We ate at their restaurant that was on site. Their food was great and the portions are big. After lunch we did a little wine tasting and bought some of the wines they produce.

Nice experience

Our first trip ever to the San Antonio Winery. Have heard so much about it... Unique environment in downtown LA; there is literally nothing to compare! Had a tour of the Winery where we learned about winemaking; wine tasting was included. Family business since 1917! Amazing; the "patriarch" Steve Riboli was there, as well as his daughter. The whole family works there every day... The food in the Maddalena Restaurant was an Italian delight; I had " Linguine with Shrimp Scampi"--very tasty! And the price, $17.99, an unbelievable value. We even had live music while dining!
