Breakfast Dec 20 2018 ==> Awesome!

By HankPaper |

Stopped for breakfast on Sat, Dec 20, 2018. Ordered the Guatemalteco which is 2 sunny-side up eggs with ranchero sauce. refried beans, plantains and cheese with a bread basket. Also ordered regular coffee. AWESOME! Enjoyed every bit of it. Menu is very informative with pictures and descriptions. Total cost was $10.45 before tip. Very fair. Only thing needing improvement is for wait service to offer coffee refill more frequently. Regardless, I will return to this restaurant.

Not impressed with service and response to bad service

By Maria N |

We sat for 10 min without anyone greeting us, had to go back and ask the hostess for the server, then someone took our order a different person brought our food out no one came to check on us after that, we wanted more bread and had to ask the lady who was cleaning the tables to bring us bread still no server checked on us and observed the same server being very attentive to other tables except ours, I finally got up and asked to speak with the supervisor, she apologized and said she would take care of the issue. Few minutes later the server came back and said “was there a problem” seemed a little upset, I told him I felt like the service provided was unacceptable and he said I will take the basket of bread off your bill to make it up to you all, YES he took the basket if bread which were two pieces of small breads they give for free yo everyone who comes to eat there that are a size of a mini scone. It was disappointing to see their response to the issue the supervisor never came back and rechecked on us, and I was not expecting to get anything for free but feel they could at least male sure the issue was resolved and in my opinion they should’ve at least not cover for the drinks just to show that they really care to provide good customer service. We were also overcharged for the coffees but seeing how they handled the first complaint did not wanted to waste my time.

Beautiful restaurant with a large bakery inside!

By becky |

Love this new restaurant. The service was good when we went at noon. The servings are pretty large also. I've had the baked potato soup (does not have chucks of potatoes in it) that was very good and a chicken salad on a croissant. It was delicious and could not eat all of it. The next time I went I had the spaghetti bolognese and a chicken salad sandwich on a pita bread. I like the croissant sandwich better. They have flavored iced tea which was good too. Thinking about going back today to try one the salads. My friends tried them and they look great.

Wow!! I loved the food ,the people , and the whole restaurant!!!

We came to celebrate my Mom’s birthday and we looooved it !!! The food tasted fresh, the coffee ☕️ delicious!!! And the customer service was outstanding!!! We will be coming back soon!!! The bakery had pan dulce Guatemala style and it was fresh and not over priced !! I mean this place is awesome 👏 felicidades a los dueños me hacen sentir orgullosa de ser guatemalteca!

Love this place (except for the wait)

By KevinTy |

What a charming excellent restaurant! Delicious food and excellent service. Long wait times are a drag especially when you can see open tables sitting for too long.

Parking is the worst

By Teresa Q |

the bakery is great, but the restaurant does not have a good service. If the restaurant is not busy, all the employees are talking and the service is the worst. The worst park is the valet parking, they block all the spots and you spend more money giving them a tip to park your car in front of you. They need to give us a chance to park our cars in the parking lot.

Fabulous brunch and bakery

By y M |

Free valet parking. Excellent service and food. The Guatemalan sweet breads are fabulous as are the rolls. No butter required. Our breakfast was excellent. Plan to return.

Right Under Our Nose

By Don C |

We over-looked this place because it is set back from Mckinney Ave; however, the good news is, it has great parking for this area. The food has a Guatemalan personality and names that are presented in a gentrified style, along with great menu pictures. The choices are able to touch on all tastes. The food is tasty and well presented. The bakery area provides even more take home choices. The restaurant is open and airy. So, we were pleasantly surprised, and plan to return!

Great New Spot

By Kyle G |

My partner and I came here for an event that we were invited to. What a beautiful place. Very open and lots of natural light. The food was delicious and the service is top notch! We are going to come back for brunch one weekend. We hear that's pretty spectacular.

Unique and Delicious

By Kathie D |

This is a very unique bakery and restaurant serving breakfast, lunch and dinner. The food has a Guatemalan flair and is very unique and delicious. The bakery is wonderful, offering a variety of breads and pastries. A selection of specialty hot and cold beverages area available ranging from hot select coffees to smoothies.

Beautiful ambience and good food

By Runtoseetheworld |

I loved the open, airy feel of their dining room. They don't take bookings, so on a Sunday be prepared for a 15-30 minute wait. The menu is all very reasonably priced. A mimosa and a meal will probably be about $15-17 per head. Their juiced are freshly squeezed and the banana Licuados was delicious! There is a variety of breakfast items on the menu- both central American and more classic. The croissants are quite good (my French dining partners said so, so it must be true!). Overall very nice morning brunch

The breads alone are worth the trip!

By JGPowers |

Had breakfast at this light, airy place. The bakery smells draw you in immediately. I am afraid this location is too near our house for comfort - easy to drop by for goodies! Service was friendly and attentive. Menu is varied. Baked goods are the stars. You can grab a hot beverage or smoothie with a fresh baked croissant or go for a full meal. We will make it a go-to spot for business breakfasts and weekend jaunts.

Awesome, can't wait to return...

By mcgotes |

Enjoyed a holiday lunch at this extraordinary breakfast, lunch and bakery yesterday in Uptown and was pleasantly surprised. The food selections from breakfast (until noon) and lunch is extensive and varied. We each enjoyed a different lunch combo, from pasta, salad and soups to sandwiches and soup. After lunch we visited the bakery for a tasty treat. Highly recommend, pleasant staff and solid customer service. Prices a bit higher than I might generally pay for lunch, but quality and service was great!

Sunday Breakfast @ San Martin

Very impressed with the staff, Owner Oscar came to meet us at the door when we entered, very beautiful plant walls and the FOOD WAS AMAZING! My entire family enjoyed our meals and we definitely will be back!

Unparalleled Cafe, Restaurant and Panaderia

By Omar R |

This is our first visit to San Martin. This establishment is remarkably impressive. The staff is very friendly, helpful and knowledgeable. We were given a tour of the bakery and were informed about each of the bakery items and the various coffees offered. We ordered two different kind of coffees to drink; La Rosma and the House Blend. Both were very full-bodied and flavorful, although La Rosma was stronger. We also ordered a piece of Carrot Cake which was heavenly. We will definitely have many return visits. I highly recommend it and it's truly worth the drive regardless of the distance.

Guatamalan Bakery and Cafe Comes to Dallas

By C2842LGkarenr |

This beautiful location is the well-known bakery's first outside of Latin America. Known for its French-style, made-from-scratch pastries, cookies, cakes pies and breads, the bakery also offers a wide selection of Guatamalan goodies and bagged coffee. The bright and airy 2-story atrium in the cafe, dripping with ferns, is a lovely spot for any meal. My companion and I met there for lunch. She had a roasted veggie sandwich with cheese, drizzled with olive oil on a freshly-baked, seeded ciabatta roll. Her young son had mac&cheese, served with banana chips. I had Pepitoria and Avocado salad - Lettuce, spinach, avocado, panela cheese, red onion, pepitoria seeds, and baked chicken, topped with pepitoria seed dressing.and a small bowl of Sopa de Elote - a creamy corn soup. We split a banana and Nutella crepe, served with vanilla ice cream. Yum! The menu is surprisingly diverse - crepes, pancakes, soups, sandwiches, salads, pizza, pastas, burgers, special coffee drinks, etc. My Rosa de Jimaica (a "tea" made from hibiscus flowers) was a little sweet for my taste, but is still very refreshing. I am not a pastry person, but could not resist selecting several to try at home. The service is exemplary and everyone was very tolerant of me trying out my lame Spanish with them.

Popular bakery and restaurant

By Shanelle |

Popular bakery with Guatemalan goodies. Came here with a group of 3 around noon and there was about a 40 minute wait, so we opted to go to the bakery instead. At the bakery, you grab a tray, pick which items you’d like, and then pay at the counter. They do accept credit cards. There’s a lot of sweet and savory options. My favorite one was the alfajores box, which are the dulce de leche cookies covered with powdered sugar. The sweet cheese bread reminded me of Filipino mamon in terms of texture and it is a less perishable item. The empanadas are good for a light meal, and the cheese bread actually doesn’t have any filling in it. The coffee bar did take a while, so perhaps get your caffeine from a different spot. There’s a valet parking lot available or you can try to find street parking by the cemetery.

Amazing breakfast

Very nice atmosphere. Walls with plants is an amazing idea and gives freshness to the place. Very delicious food, we had breakfast and everything was great. Service also is great

Good Mexican pastry restaurant and bakery

By Francisco Herna... C |

In this restaurant, since I am rather strange when it comes to strange food, you can eat good chicken soups, tortilla soups... And some ravioli with tomato. Nothing original or American but good and well priced and among the drinks you can have beer. They also speak Spanish and so there is no problem. And the place is very nice and the pastries varied and good.

A fresh food and baked goods - Guatamalen style!

By benergizer2017 |

Just left San Martín, with a bag of delicious cinnamon roll, and guatemalan sweet roll, and dulce de leech napoleon, for tomorrow and a sweet tooth.... Met a girlfriend for lunch, who had a lovely fresh Asian salad, while I breakfasted on a guatemalan breakfast of eggs, plantain, and black beans on a "pata" with fresh salsa, and their brewed coffee! Don't miss this gem! It's off McKinney, and a lovely option for any meal. The menu is expansive, and well priced. Wait staff is very attentive.

Wonderful Brunch Spot

By Craigh-KRPH |

We stopped in for a late breakfast during a short stay in uptown. Everything we had was wonderful. The atmosphere was open and relaxing. If there isn’t something on the menu for you here, you can’t be pleased. All of the food and pastries we tried were excellent. Somewhere the breads and smoothies. If we are ever back in the area we will eat here again no question.

Fair enough

By John Lovell |

We ordered some horchata that was disappointing, and thought the bread they brought out was sub par. Nothing particularly to write home about the meal, but in general enjoyed atmo and service. Down to try again.

A Guatamala Gem

By Wayne B |

This is the first U. S. bakery and restaurant for this famous Guatemalan chain and boy, have they done a great job! Clean, Urban, bright and cozy- this place is a wonderful place for gathering with friends any time of the day. Coffee and breads. Sandwiches and beer, or just an evening pastry. Decor and design have that tropical feel. Clean restrooms. Michalada beers. Extensive menu in the restaurant. Friendly staff. Free parking. Enjoyed our lunch visit.

High expectations, very disappointed.

By Pep |

We were a party of 10 and our waitress was Pamela. Pamela was also working a big party of about 15 and two smaller tables alone. One waitress doing all the work. It was a complete disservice to her, us and the company. This was our first time eating at San Martin and our experience was terrible. Our food came out cold, multiple meals were sent back to the kitchen. Our mimosas took forever (they actually came after Some of our meals were delivered) The food was average and it all makes sense now because the price point was below average. I guess you get what you pay for.

What a lovely hidden gem!

By Christine S |

I've loved this place each of the dozen or so times I've gone. All of the employees are so eager to please. Their lattes are creamy and their baked goods are divine. Be sure to grab a basket and fill it with things to take home!

Best Bakery

By joe d |

SO GOOD. You can buy take out or eat in. I had cinnamon rolls and strudel. Fresh baked rolls and cakes too.

Decent Food, Mis-managed kitchen

By Siam-Orchids |

Terrible mis-managed kitchen. Waited almost an hour after we sat down for our food. Instead of bringing the appetizer and then the main course, they brought it all at the same time. Please don't tell me about your "labor problems" or the "kitchen is backed up" problems because I don't care. Don't make excuses, don't apologize, I only care about good food and good service, then you give me a bill and I pay it. Food was ok, but not worth waiting an hour for it to come. Extremely disappointed ! Doubt very much if we'll eat there again, but we may go back for take away bakery.

It wasn’t a bad experience

By Juan Carlos |

The food wasn’t the best but I’d say it’s mainly so that the bakery doesn’t get outshined. Overall not a bad experience, everything was clean. Service could improve. The bread was very good. I bought a fruit pie, it was great.

Delicious breakfast

By Rickina |

San Martín is a bakery and a restaurant in uptown Dallas. The menu is extensive. We were 4 in our group and we all loved what we ordered. Truly delicious food, tasty coffee, and good service in a lovely setting. As we were leaving, we walked by the bakery section and could not leave without buying some pastries and cookies. Highly recommend this place for breakfast or brunch.

Bread lovers paradise

By solalex2016 |

If you miss the panaderías from home this is the place for you! As soon as you walk in the smell of fresh bread hits you. The restaurant is beautifully decorated with fresh plans, very spacious with plenty of seating, very welcoming and layback. It was my first visit today and I had the desayuno típico with coffee and assortment of fresh breads that came with breakfast. Everything was delicious and fresh. I recommend eating before you head to the bakery section or you will end up taking more than you should! Bread and pastries are fresh, everything is good size and reasonably priced. Will definitely be coming back and recommending to everyone.

Great breakfast selections from around Latin America but it also serves lunch and dinner.

By scott46 |

For early risers, it opens at 7, even on weekends. The Chivito Uruguayano was delicious and all the other menu items looked awesome. The bakery, complete with ovens, shares the space with the restaurant so be sure to stop there to ogle the unique pastries before leaving. Professional service.

Amazing

By Glenn K |

Light, bright, and roomy inside. Good number of parking spaces outside. Excellent food. Soup and sandwich option.

Great bakery

By JoshuaExpeditions |

We didn’t try the restaurant but the bakery is very good....the whole place is huge and clean... lots of options and great location to grab some sweets and walk around the Uptown or ride the trolley

Simply Outstanding

By EPFANZ |

Food is simply outstanding, the champagne brie soup is to die for! My wife says this is the most romantic dinner spot she’s ever been. I can’t lose when I take her here! Highly recommend for a good meal for that special occasion.

Such a bad experience

By Pily Torres M |

4/4/23 This morning my friend and I went to breakfast at her request. It was a bad idea to go; the waitress gave us terrible service. The food wasn’t what they advertise. I ordered a Benedict eggs, and the muffins wasn’t toast, the cup f fruit didn’t have any strawberries the menu photo shows it with strawberries. When I asked the waitress about the strawberries, sho got upset. In conclusion, it’s an overpriced place that doesn’t meet expectations, with high bakery prices. There are better places in Dallas 🛑🛑🛑🛑

Great food and bakery

By 860SusanB860 |

I recently met friends here for lunch and we were quite impressed! The restaurant itself is gorgeous. It has very high ceilings, wonderful natural light, walls of living plants, olive trees, and cute native decor. The restaurant and kitchen are on one side of the restaurant and the bakery is on the other. The menu is most impressive for lunch with many options for pizza, sandwiches, salads, pastas, etc. The breakfast/brunch menu looks very appealing and I will have to go back and check that out! The only negative thing I can report on this day was that service was not very attentive. We had trouble getting drink orders correct, getting refills, getting our checks, etc. (This was the same in the bakery area as well). Our sandwiches, salads, and desserts were all tasty and delicious. The bakery items I purchased and took home were exceptional. I will definitely return for brunch and to buy more fresh-baked goods.

Impressive

By tolandowski |

We stopped here on a visit to Dallas just to get bakery items and coffee for takeout. The pastries were very good and the selection of coffee was large. The bakery is decorated very nicely, especially with all the hanging plants in the dining area. Had we been here without a dog, we would have enjoyed eating in the dining area or on the patio with our dog if that is allowed in warmer weather. Be aware that the valet parking is complementary (tips only) and it can be difficult to find street parking in the area.

Awful service

By Dhiren P |

Won't be going again. Came one day for the holiday cookies, none were out, so I asked about them and the person said they were sold out. I asked if they would be having more the following week and then the person asked someone else in Spanish and was translated to me as to to come back next Tuesday. I went back as told and asked about them and this time was told they don't have any and won't be making more. Found something else to buy and paid in cash and was only given 25 cents back in change which I though was odd as should have been like 40 cents. Asked for the receipt and sure enough it says I should get $0.48 back in change so I asked where the rest of it was and this guy didn't know much English so asked a colleague in Spanish who got someone else to come and get me the proper change
