Considerate Hostess

By Sandy N |

We went to the Grill for dinner and the hostess mentioned that there was a somewhat noisy group in the back where we usually sit and asked if we would prefer a table in the front by the window. Perfect, as we were with our 23 year old nephew and wanted to catch up with him. We all enjoyed our food and the service was good. I had the Reuben sandwich, which was excellent, but not very hot.

Burger was okay, service not impressive

By Patrick P |

Got the Sand Point Grill burger and added fresh jalapeños. Overall the burger was okay - it’s very large and tough to eat without it falling apart. The fresh jalapeños and crispy bacon were good but I didn’t like how the brioche bun was toasted - felt like it threw off the overall texture of the burger. The service wasn’t great and my empty water glass went unnoticed for a while - they didn’t come by for a while after serving us our food.

Overpriced and crummy service

By Lavenderladyblue |

We never received a drink we ordered even after pointing out that we hadn't received it when the food was delivered. The only salmon on the menu is Atlantic. Food was mediocre, especially for the price. The poor service might have been understanable if they had been very busy but it was slow on a Monday night. We won't be back be back.

Outstanding service, bland food

By cruxcorvus |

I have to concede, being from Wisconsin I may not be a reliable judge of Seattle cuisine which is why I am not giving this place 3 stars. To me, the food was painfully bland but the cauliflower soup of the day was outstanding. I had the risotto, tried the chocolate cake and a few bites of the salmon. All were painfully bland and to me; the salmon was metallic, fishy, and dry but I am used to fresh Alaska salmon and most restaurants in the lower states seem to have the same, bad tasting salmon. The decor I found to be as bland as the food but I really enjoyed the art on the walls

Unexpected Treat

By Boomer45 |

We came to Seattle for the weekend and were looking for a place to have Happy Hour and discuss dinner plans -- happened upon the Sand Point Grill just as it was opening at 4 pm. The drinks were excellent and the bartender was fun, so we decided to look at the menu. Best fish tacos I've ever tasted! We will definitely be back :)

Good menu, solid food, comfortable neighborhood restaurant

By Seattle98101 |

A very nice neighborhood spot, with good food. I appreciate the range of choices on the menu, catering to small appetites as well as large - a really good, simple butter lettuce salad plus an appetizer was enough for me, while my husband had an excellent pasta dish. The beef kabobs were tasty, next time will try the sliders (beef with caramelized onion or pulled pork with slaw, and you can order as many of each as you wish, rather than being stuck with a set assortment). Desserts were good, though unremarkable.

We used to love coming here☹️

By Krisinseattle |

Went out for dinner to one of our old favorites, and left very disappointed. It was busy and we were seated by the bar. Waited for quite awhile before we had a drink order taken although the server was very apologetic. Ordered my old favorite, the fish tacos, which had so little fish and ingredients, all I could taste was the tortillas. I added my cold slaw to have something to eat. ($15). The server asked if we wanted more steak on the steak salad. Should have as the $14 one was very minimal. Somewhat limited wine menu. Total before tip $60. Left hungry.

First time going there since

By Denver7889 |

First time going there since they reopened. Nice place with some great cocktails and a small menu but some good choices are available. I had the fried chicken and it was great.my companion had the lamb with pasta and it was also very good. The smoked salmon spread was a perfect appetizer. Our server/ bartender was great. We will return.

GReat neeighborhood place- but pricey

By Pepper |

this place is cozy and personal and it makes you want to be a regular. Still its not cheap- our dinner with one glass of wine, two appetizers, a burger and trout was 90 dollars- all great food, but not your casual drop in, every day expense. Still, it is perfect for that occasional night you want really good food and a really nice atmosphere. My trout was delicious and the burger was big and juicy. We both liked the zucchini soup and the chocolate dessert was addictively good, So no complaints on anything except perhaps that our very nice waitress was a bit overwhelmed and we didn't feel we had her attention often enough. but that's quibbling- we really like this restaurant.

Great food, casual service

By Sandy N |

Our casual, "Hi, guys", gum chewing waiter made himself pretty scarce for most of our meal, but his colleagues stepped in to deliver our orders. He did, however, redeem himself at the end when he brought my husband a scoop of delicious vanilla ice cream with a birthday candle in it. Both of our entrees were very good. I had the filet mignon steak, cooked to medium rare tender perfection, and my husband had the cioppino which was also great. The restaurant was very busy and is popular with families. A nice neighborhood spot.

Wonderful neighborhood spot

Terrific neighborhood restaurant with delicious locally sourced ingredients and creative menu. Very popular with local residents. Good family spot. Great personal and friendly service. Great local secret! Check it out!

Early Sunday Dinner

By Meg B |

Sand Point Grill is my local neighborhood restaurant which I can honestly say is excellent having eaten here on many, many occasions since it first opened. The food and service is always excellent and they continuously strive to make their customers comfortable, happy with their food, and always willing to take suggestions.

Dinner

By Bill P |

Sat at the bar for dinner with my wife. Nice setting and neighborhood favorite! Packed for dinner, but it quickly empties out. There was plenty of seats available after 7:30. Tommy at the bar was great and friendly. The Kennebec fries are amazing! Unfortunately, both my burger and my wife's tuna were overcooked, despite asking for medium rare, hence the rating of a 3. If it wasn't for the kitchen's miss, it would have been at least a 4.

Tasty Neighborhood Restaurant

By PickyInSeattle |

We have been twice now and both times were equally enjoyable. It is out of the way for us, but definitely worth going to. It feels just personal with wonderful menu choices that are not overwhelming. You can get everything from fried chicken (supposed to be amazing) to one of their chef's weekly specials. I had the grilled salmon cooked perfectly and served on pieces of squash, white beans and kale. Each Saturday they feature two mix and match complete meals (app, entree, dessert). Also enjoyed some great happy hour items and nice prices on wine during HH.

What happened? New owners not doing well.

By dougbr73 |

This is my 4th visit in 18 months. The first visit with new owners. Prior to this recent visit, SPG was fun, good cocktails, yummy food, personable service and well managed. On our recent visit, there was one (1) server for the entire restaurant on a busy night. Food was brought to the table by daughters of the owners. All of that would have been fine except the cocktails were not well balanced. My Manhattan had too much bitters. My partner's martini tasted like they didn't use the requested Ketel One vodka (even though we were charged for it ). i ordered the Diablo Shrimp. It was unbelievably salty and the sauce was not creamy. My partner's prime rib was cooked to well done. She asked for medium and specifically clarified what that meant. After spending almost $150 dollars, it didn't feel worth it. Not going back anytime soon

Don't let the location fool you

By Tyler L |

Don't let the kind of strip mall feeling deter you, the food here is actually pretty good. The service is, but somewhat slow and the entrees took a while to arrive. The beer selection was pretty good considering the location and the food was well made. The ambiance leaves a little to be desired, but can be overlooked for the food.

Creative Fresh Food

By delmarvamom |

I enjoyed this attractive small place with a charming bar. The food was creative and delicious. Footballfankind of took over the bar and I clearly saw that moneybags would get better

Big changes to Sand Point Grill

By Prissa |

For many years the SPG was a mainstay in our restaurant choices....the staff, the food, the neighborhood ambience. Today, it is a totally different place. Each time we have been in recent months, the food choices have decreased and the usual food items left have decreased in quality. There is a staff changeover and this week we found we could not even call in an order. We are dismayed that this once vibrant meeting and eating place is just a ghost of times past.

Great dinner before the theater

By MarciaC310 |

Not being familiar with the area around the Seattle musical theater, we googled for a restaurant close by. This was such a delightful find. the menu was interesting, the service was excellent. The food was delicious and prepared as per our request. Cannot say enough good things about the Sand Point Grill.

I went back the next night.

By Richard R |

Love this place. Visit often with my son and grandkids on "kids eat free" nights. Recently went back the next night for a burger and Reuben's IPA. Best burger and beer I've had for many a month.

A neighborhood treasure

By bodaboyce |

We've eaten at Sand Point on the average of about once every 2 months for the last year or so. What was always a good, predictable and friendly neighborhood eatery stepped up a notch when the new owners took over last year. The fare is typically American with a continental touch (the divers scallops ... wow!). The food is always well prepared, generous portions and quite tasty. The service is good, but on nights when the place is slammed you need to be a little patient ... doh! And as long as they keep serving this level of good, hearty cuisine . . . well, it's liable to be slammed. So just chill out and enjoy really good food at fair prices.

comfortable neighborhood bistro

By marcin k |

we stayed with our friends in seattle and to thank them for their hospitality, we took them to dinner at one of their neighborhood favorites -- sand point grill. we made reservations on a friday night three hours ahead of time. we drove a few minutes and found parking directly in front of the restaurant and were seated in a nice booth at the back. while the restaurant was nearly full, the acoustics were good and we could carry on a conversation at normal volume. the wait staff was efficient and helpful, the menu varied, and the wine list was good, almost a dozen reds or whites to choose from, all reasonably priced. we shared grilled octopus to start and our entrees were satisfying. we shared a dessert to finish. i thought $50 a head for what turned out to be an enjoyable meal was very reasonable. unpretentious service, good food and drinks, and a nice atmosphere, i recommend it.

Another Amazing Meal

By Elizabeth G |

We decided to celebrate my birthday with dinner at Sand Point Grill. We love this cozy restaurant in a beautiful Seattle location. Their special tonight was cod with a pea/asparagus/lentil side dish - incredibly delicious. Would have never thought of that combination. We are always greeted like one of the neighborhood peeps, exceptional service and all food created from the best ingredients. Have never had a mediocre meal. Sand Point Grill is small and intimate with a small bar full of exceptional selections. We love this little spot!

A Neighborhood Treasure

By TwoKCs |

While not "hip/mod" or fancy, the Sand Point Grill has consistently delivered great food and drinks with friendly competent service for the NE Seattle neighborhood, earning countless loyal regulars, many of whom conveniently walk from Hawthorne Hills, Viewridge or Laurelhurst. The small intimate bar is always friendly and congenial and offers great "happy-hour" specials. It is tucked away along the line of shops near the Princeton Bridge on Sand Point way and is well worth getting to know.

Good food, helpful staff

By Edward S |

Dinner can be a real challenge with little children. SPG provides vegetable and fruit plates to keep little appetites occupied. Portions good size and food well prepared. Ceasar salad, especially with white anchovies, was excellent, and dessert (chocolate cake) outstanding. Wine list is limited, but good wines.

Great food and service!

By Robbinsesq |

On our first night of a visit with our son and daughter-in-law, they treated us to dinner at this restaurant--one of their favorite places. The host was friendly and congenial, and our waiter made thoughtful recommendations for our consideration. I finally selected the Pork Schnitzel (a thick pork chop), served with a colorful vegetable medley, and topped with a generous portion arugula. It was simply delicious! Others enjoyed the bacon burger; Alaskan Salmon Special; and the 17 oz Rib Eye Steak. A nice bottle of Malbec brought it all together. No wonder they keep going back!

Excellent main dishes; salad dressing not exciting.

By Mark M |

My wife had mussels and I had a great Italian dish (linguini?) The food was excellent. The butter lettuce salad was very good, though the dressing was too mild. My wife said it was the best broth she has tasted with mussels, and she has tasted a lot of them.

Going downhill…

By Prissa |

Have been enjoying happy hour and dinners here for years. Recently went for happy hour and wow…the food offering was cut by half and wine is no longer offered at happy hour price. The prices have been increasing at an alarming rate…and as the server put it, the owner just didn’t think wine was needed on the HH menu. The food has been less than great in last couple of years but this pushes us to try other venues.

Better than your average neighborhood grill!

By TXMARTINS |

With fantastic service, a great menu & super kid friendly this is a great local gem that is more than you standard burger and sandwiches fare. Great service, with a good wine list this is a place worth repeating that actually has parking in this busy city!

Neighborhood restaurant with world class food.

By Klein11517 |

We're a bit out of the neighborhood, but discovered this restaurant a few years ago. There are lots of neighborhood regulars that go to this restaurant for their favorite dishes, but the seasonal dishes and specials are always a treat. The nostalgia deserts are a twist on old favorites, but are so much better.

DISAPPOINTING MEAL

By Terry H |

We have eaten here three times now: the first time was good; the second less so. The third time did not charm either. The restaurant seems to be a neighborhood favorite as it was crowded early (by 5:30 it was mostly full). Perhaps the regulars know what to order, but we were disappointed with our dishes (fettuccini with a meat blend/sauce in it, and what was described as a butternut squash risotto). The fettuccini's meat was dry; the risotto had very small pieces of butternut squash and hard bits of what I think was button mushrooms scattered throughout the dish. I couldn't taste the squash and the hard mushroom bits were distracting and not very good. Dessert was very good, however: vanilla gelato and pear sorbet. So maybe come for a glass of wine and dessert?

Change of ownership, change of menu

By mcott46 |

We have been going to Sand Point Grill since it first opened, three owners ago. The retirement of the recent owners, Christina and her husband, has been a difficult transition for us. Things have changed, and not for the better. The once fabulous burger has been downsized and a different, smaller, less tasty bun substituted. The iconic butter leaf salad has had its dressing changed, watered down, nothing like it was. The new pasta dishes are limp and inadequate -- chicken with broccoli and their fake carbonara -- avoid these. I don't know what's left -- we just never feel like going there anymore, and this was our favorite place for decades. Note to new owner: at least bring back the original dressing on the butter leaf salad Note to Christina and family: we misse you !

Nice place for a casual dinner

By Carol W |

Our son who lives in Seattle wanted to try this place while we were visiting and we were not disappointed. He ordered a huge burger which was cooked just to his liking. My husband had the lamb pasta dish and I had the chicken-broccoli-penne pasta and both were delicious. Service was excellent and atmosphere pleasant and casual. We were pleased with the variety of menu items, even though it might be considered a smaller menu, we were happy that it was not just your ordinary " bar and grill" type American food.

Out of the Ordinary Small Restaurant

By SDrown |

We have been meaning to try this restaurant out for a while and finally made it. We went at about 8 PM so we missed any crowds though it was not empty - it closes at 10 PM. The menu was good and had some different choices - not the run of the mill normal offerings at all. I tried out the Braised Meat Fettuccini. A tad spicy and quite good. And not a huge amouint of food either! Nice wine menu and the wine that was suggested was quite good though not cheap. The staff were friendly and did a good job overall. A nice place to have a good meal and also have the time (and quiet) to talk. I can certainly recommend it.

Great Place

By Starfish_seattle111 |

The Sand Point Grill is one of our favorite neighborhood spots. Whether for "date night" in the bar, with the kids or with a larger group (they take reservations!), it never disappoints. The food offers something for everyone, including a great burger, and the service is always top notch.

Cosy friendly place

By drn6 |

I'd like to think that if I was living in the area this would be a favorite neighborhood reliable eatery. Nicely decorated, not too big not too small just right. The food is fresh, tasty, well presented and imaginative. Great place to catch the game, raise a glass and catch up with your friend over a nice meal. I would love to visit again.

Post soccer game family dinner

By skal_1110 |

We had been at Magnuson Park for a soccer game and I had researched nearby restaurants. It was incredibly difficult to find in the dark because the numbering of streets was very confusing. The wait staff were so kind and friendly after our frustrating "journey". All of us enjoyed our meals as well as sorbet for dessert.

One of the best

By Prissa |

We have to admit...we live just a couple of blocks from this restaurant. That said, we travel a bit and have sampled a lot of fare, and this place remains one of our favorites. The staff are super and eager to please their guests. And the food is consistently good, from their appetizers to main plates. One of my favorite appetizers -- the seafood tacos....with a nicely sautéed fish filet, black beans, guacamole, cilantro and salsa...delish. The butter leaf salad with blue cheese and almonds delights your taste buds. We especially like their buttermilk fried chicken served with mashed potatoes and freshly sautéed green beans. That's the thing...everything tastes fresh. Oh yes, the only negative is that their bar area is small as we love meeting friends here..so get there. That said, this is a great place.

Great Local Food

By Flufton |

I travel to Seattle several times each year and there are a lot of good restaurants. The Sand Point Grill is a really consistently good local place. I always have one or two meals there when I'm in town. It's a casual neighborhood place in the "U" district on Sand Point Way. One signature dinner dish is the fried chicken with mashed potatoes...great! But the Penn Cove steamed mussels are the best in town. You have to have the Penn Cove mussels! Good little deserts too. Good wine list, casual friendly service.

One of our favorites

By Elna D |

We love this place...it is a small neighborhood bistro with a great owner (Craig Bartleson) and a equally great bartender (A.J. Rantz). All the food is good and they have a great selection of wines from Washington including DeLille and Fielding Hills (if you haven't tried it, you should!). Both my husband and I like their mussels, buttermilk fried chicken and their beet salad...yum. It's located in the middle of about 8 businesses right off Sand Point Way. Drive slow, cause you don't want to miss it...it's that good. Besides the food, I love the friendliness of these people and I love that it is small and intimate...oh, and reasonable prices too!

SO GOOD!

By jackiethetripadviser |

I love it! Greats for kids and adults. Must get the kids Mac and Cheese! Great prices and kid friendly. Good bar there to. Kids menu is not expensive and adults is Mid-range.

Great Neighborhood Joint

By Michael V |

The SPG is the kind of place every neighborhood needs. Friendly, efficient staff, lively bar, a relatively brief menu that changes and always has some interesting, well prepared options. Whether it is their standard fried chicken or "The Schnitzel", or one of the imaginatively prepared fish specials the meals are reliably tasty and generously proportioned. This is a go-to place for a relaxed lunch or dinner.

Truly don't bother.

By SeattleBuckets |

Truly terrible. Really. We try it every few years thinking it must have gotten better or it wouldn't still be in business, but no. Maybe after enough bad reviews they will get a new menu and new chef. It is a nice little place with ambiance. Too bad the menu choices and food are so poor.

Every time one dines here it is a new experience

By Roberto d |

Found the Sand Point Grill a several years ago via an Entertainment Book two for one coupon. Wife and I have been coming back ever since. Each time we go the menu has changed and it is always an excellent dining experience.

Excellent Neighborhood Restaurant

By SeattleResident999 |

We have been to Sand Point Grill many times, and it is always a pleasure! The servers and owners are very nice, always upbeat and smiling. The food, as always, was excellent. My wife had the special 3 course meal for 30$, which included such choices as a Foie Gras pate for appetizer, duck for entree and an outstanding chocolate desert. The kids loved their choices of pasta and chicken. We are sure to be back soon!

Neighborhood favorite

By kevsea |

One of our local favorites. Many menu options. Very friendly for kids but nice without kids as well. Waitstaff and owner is great

Convenient Neighborhood Restaurant

By Travel 1 |

A great family restaurant with excellent servers. The food tastes like home cooking, especially the fried chicken. Easy parking.

Excellente and friendly neighborhood restaurant with good cuisine

By Michel_J_L |

Friendly. Welcoming. Excellent food (I always melt for the grilled octopus appetizer). Menu varies a little bit with seasons but the core is steady and good. Not too noisy.

Neighborhood Gem

By Jeanette E |

This is one of our go-to neighborhood restaurants with my parents and kids. My parents appreciate the consistent, deliciously prepared food and excellent service. My kids appreciate the kid-friendly fare and (now that they are getting older) nice portions! I like knowing that whenever we go, we'll get friendly service and much better than expected food from this unassuming neighborhood place. Tonight's favorites: my fish tacos with omg albacore, dad's fried chicken, the kids' schnitzel and side of mashed potatoes, mom's burger, hubby's carbonara- which both dad and hubby think is the best they've ever had. Don't tell anyone- we want to be able to get in here next week!!

Do you like to "discover" new places?

By cuervojose |

This delightful spot, tucked into a low profile unassuming building, in the Sand Point area might just become one of my favorite places. Had it not been for the promotion of Seattle Restaurant week, with it's three courses for 28 deal, I might never have "found" this place. Can't wait to go back and try the regular selections. The menu looks varied with choices for all your party, and the wine list while short in stature, offers wines at a substantially lower price than I have seen at other places. We will return.

Great neighborhood spot!

By Jmk72551 |

Small, friendly local restaurant with lots of regional ingredients wonderfully prepared. A “go to” spot for us visiting our old neighborhood!

Outstanding Neighborhood Resataurant. Gret Food and Very Nice decoration.

By SeattleResident9 |

We had a great dinner. Everything was delicious, the aspargus cream soup, the salad had a great sauce and was very flavorful. My wife had the salmon special which was really good and I also liked my entree. The hazelnut tart was very good as well with a just of orange flavor. The new owners have done a great job. We are sure to come back often.

OUR BELOVED SAND POINT GRILL IS FINALLY BACK

By richard j |

Again family owned, delicious food,, and good drinks all at reasonable prices. The staff are caring. We have waited a long time to have our neighborhood restaurant back. Hooray!

THE CLASSIC NEIGHBORHOOD BAR AND RESTAURANT

By drelde |

Excuse me for beginning with the cocktails. Top shelf at HH for $7, my favorite a Bullitt Rye Manhattan, for which I have been charged twice that at places. The bar food is good, another bargain! The regular dinner menu is very good. I had the best sea scallops in my life here. The restaurant is family friendly, not stodgy at all. I don't know of another place quite like it in all of Seattle.

Very Family Friendly!!

By KSminsen |

Our family loves going to Sand Point Grill. Not only are there great options for the adults in the party, but the kids love it as well. It is one of the few restaurants that bring out something for the kids right away (apples, cucumbers and carrots.) They also have a decent selection of wines to go along with there great entrees.

a terrible meal

By SeattleReviewer |

I just had my worse restaurant meal in many years. First, there was a long wait (an hour) to get outr meals. The green salad was tasteless and the apple salad (for $9) was tiny. The special of the night was cod (for $21). Out came a tiny, cold piece on some beans. Just terrible. My son could not finish his hamburger due to some unpleasant sauce on it. The tables are very narrow...and don't work for people with long legs. We complained about the food and long wait and the owner gave us a $ 25 gift certificate. We won't use it....never will set place in that restaurant again!

Neighborhood gem perfect for celiacs

By norakoz |

We were delighted to discover the Sand Point Grill when we moved to our new neighborhood. Although it is located in a small strip mall and mostly patronized by local residents, out-of towners should take note that it is just down the road from Seattle Childrens' Hospital and a mile or so from the University of Washington. The owner/chefs, Craig & Kristina Bartleson, are nearly always on the premises and are meticulous about both the quality of the food (very good to excellent) and accommodating food allergies. As I am extremely sensitive to gluten, I am amazed that I have never had a reaction in the dozen times I have dined at the Grill. My son who is dairy intolerant also never has a problem here. The food is a delight and all my family members are always happy to eat here. The desserts, created by Kristina, are yummy and often can be made gluten-free. Finding the Sand Point Grill certainly ameliorated the hassle of moving.
