Average with a few stand-out dishes

By Anne S |

Busy, friendly, but not outstanding. Get the Peking duck and the flounder with pork dish. Those were worth the trip! Note that even dishes labeled as spicy don't really have heat.

Great Little Duck House

By Don G |

The menu is extensive and the staff are constantly check on you, to the point it got a little annoying. They however did afine job getting us everything we needed. We had the peking Duck for two with a secound course. They bring you the normal skin and pancakes with sauce and scallions but use the rest of the duck for a next course. We haven't had that second course since we lived in St Martin. Very good.

Crispy duck without too much fat

By April Z |

I have been here twice, and I’ll be back again soon. Their duck is fantastic. It has crispy skin and it’s not too fatty, and I ate an entire place by myself. I got the pancakes with the duck the first time, but next time I’d do buns. The second time I came here I got the soft shell crab. It’s great but greasy, and I had it spicy and put extra spice on top. I hit a deep fried wall while eating it, so I brought it home to eat later. Highly recommend!

Enjoyable

By WanderlustHrts |

We walked over to Reading Terminal Market and after walking around a bit we opted for the duck at Sang Kee Peking Duck. There were two stools available and we ordered a couple of bottles of water, a Peking duck roll, duck with rice and vegetables, and duck with noodles. The Peking duck roll was delicious but right when I bit into it juice streamed down my chin and all over my shirt. I smelled like the duck and five spice until I finally got into our hotel room and could change. Our entrees were both delicious and very good portions. The duck was tender and flavorful in both dishes but the noodle dish was a little strong for my taste.

One of the Best

By Herstory_62 |

With so many good Asian bistros to sample around town this is one of the best. Per the name the various duck dishes are juicy & flavorful. Yet chock full of fresh crisp veggies & thin slices of pork, along with several chunky dumplings, the wanton soup is also superb. Portions are beyond generous; prices reasonable & another visit can't come soon enough!

Finally found the Best General Tso's Chicken

By George K |

I've been looking for "Great" General Tso's Chicken for a long time, I finally found it! I have never had it served the way they serve it here, whole chicken breasts lightly coated and fried sliced. The chicken was moist and the sauce was out of this world. This will be my "Go To" place from now on.

Small & not fancy places have amazing food too!

By bkibler26 |

Found this online and soooo glad we went. We had the Peking Duck for 2, Pad Thai shrimp, Wonton soup and Dan - Dan Noodles. Everything was amazing! The duck was the best duck me, my husband and dad have ever had....and we've had alot. The wonton in the soup were so fresh and delicious! They give you free dessert(3 different ice creams) to top off your great meal! The prices are great for being in Philly, I'd say normal Chinese lace pricing. The restaurant itself isn't fancy but not dirty or messy. The staff could use some work on their English, attentiveness, and friendliness but they were ok. I would totally recommend and go back! Never judge a book by it cover!

Above average

By k9education |

We stopped in after a show at Union Transfer for a late night meal. Service was very fast - 8 minutes from hanging up the phone to walking out with our food. Nonetheless, the food was clearly freshly made. The chicken fried rice was very good. As for the sweet an sour chicken, the sauce was pretty good, but the chicken was only mediocre. The issue with the chicken was that it was very fatty and mushy; it didn't resemble white meat chicken at all. Overall though, the food was above average and we'll be back. Next time we'll skip the sweet and sour chicken though.

I HAD A BAD EXPERIENCE

By DIANE PATTERSON |

We drove into the city specifically to eat at Sang Kee. It was recommended to us by a co-worker. We arrived at the restaurant for a late lunch/early dinner. Hubby & I shared a bowl of soup with braised beef, udon noodles, wantons, etc. It was delicious; a rich broth, not salty, at all, so flavorful. We both ordered entrees. Hubby ordered a duck & pork platter. I ordered duck with plum sauce. Hubby was served his meal. I sat and watched him eat. It must have been a good ten minutes later that my platter came to the table. Hubby was just about finished his meal. It was his turn to watch me eat. Not cool.

Very Good Chinese in Philly

By WGK_traveler |

We have eaten at this restaurant in Philly China Town several times. The food has always been excellent. They offer a wide range of Chinese dishes, from the familiar to the unique. This is not a fancy ambiance place and service is not the anything special, but the food is very good.

Best Chinese in Philly!

By Elizabeth A |

Their Peking duck with pancakes and Plum sauce is an absolute must!!! The rest of the food is very well done, but that is the true highlight of their menu. Their is ample seating, the tea is delicious and the folks there are always polite and prompt. This was our one and only place for Chinese food in Philly.

Excellent

By Golfer0222 |

Absolutely excellent. There were seven of use for dinner. We had a round table with a laz suss-an. We ordered several appetizers and put on the table for everyone to try. Everyone ordered a main dish and again put in the center and everyone tried it all. Good amount of food on each plate. Service was outstanding. Place was clean and they cleaned the tables as people left.

Great Duck

By RpII |

Go early, cause there is always a line. Duck is prepared to perfection. Pancakes a bit dry and tear easily, but taste of duck makes this a winning dish. Recommend half a duck per person given smaller size. Plan on spending around $32 for a whole duck. Menu is extensive and includes Dim Sum items. All dishes being served around us looked delicious. Paid Parking across the street.

Good Peking duck

By Susan S |

Of all of the restaurant in Chinatown, this is by far the best. The duck skin was crispsy and the majority of the fat was removed from the meet. The pancakes were a bit hard but tasted good. The combination dim sum was good, but they were out of one of the choices. We ordered the pork belly rice bowl and while tasty, it contained far too much rice. All things considered, I would eat there again.

Good Peking duck but they don't know what satay is

By LarsRo |

I ordered the Peking duck and it was quite good. My friend wanted to have seafood and asked me what satay was (which was listed on the menu). I described to him what satay is (skewers with barbecued meat or shrimps with peanut sauce). He ordered the satay, but to our great surprise he was served a dish of shrimps and vegetables in soy sauce. That is definitely not satay!

Chinese Comfort Food

By Audrey C |

Philadelphia has a robust restaurant industry and especially in Chinatown. My goto restaurant for Chinese comfort food is Sang Kee Peking Duck House. You do not need to like duck to dine here; the menu is extensive, and you will not leave hungry! The portions are generous and the price is right. The location is off to the end of Chinatown so not easy to find but so worth the effort. I tried the roast duck with vegetables in noodle soup then shared a house dessert called Exotic Bomba. The Bomba is made with a layer of ice cream and a layer of sorbet with tropical fruit flavors all encased in white chocolate shell. The restaurant while remote is welcoming, spacious and well lighted. I highly recommend a meal or two at Sang Kee Peking Duck House.

Amazing Peking Duck!

By Wander |

I've never had Peking Duck before and this place was highly recommended by a friend. Finally made it out there and it did not disappoint! Half duck is even a little too much for one person so I'd probably recommend sharing the half with one other person rather than the whole split between too (unless you're ravenous). The skin was crispy, the meat was juicy; it was perfect. With the hoisin sauce and the bao buns it was the perfect meal.

BEST Duck In Philly

By pearlmiriam |

We always look for great duck. Have tried most places in Philly that advertise duck as a specialty. Stick with the basics for duck. Sang Kee is the BEST!!!

Delicious food, fast service!!

By VacayBabay03 |

Great location in Chinatown, Philly. The food was delicious and the service was fast. It is a great lunch spot. The pork steamed dumplings were some of the best dumplings I’ve ever had!!!

Duck was Something to Quack About

By rogersober |

The Peking Duck with rice and vegetables was a nice lunch treat order between two. The meat was tender and flavorful. The veg was good and rice fluffy. The folks were very nice whom served.

New Year Dinner

By sararefaeli |

Excellent Duck in Chinatown

By karesp52 |

We went for a family birthday- 4 adults. My son ate here two months ago and highly recommended the duck, so we ordered the duck dinner for 4@ $88. The first course was wonton vegetable soup. Excellent with lots of vegetables such as mushrooms and carrots. Best we have all had. Next, came the Peking duck to wrap with a Chinese version of pancakes, scallions and sauce. We all raved about the duck, the crispy skin and the tasty duck sauce. In addition, we all loved the shredded duck dish with string beans as well as the fried rice. There were mixed reviews on the honey walnut breaded shrimp ( I loved them) and the chicken with eggplant. So much food we have enough leftovers for another meal except for the duck and the rice which were all gobbled up. Nice touch at the end to bring a sampler of ice cream on a plate that is part of the meal package. ( Green Tea, Red bean and Mint chocolate Chip- yummy ) as well as fortune cookies. We went on a Sunday around 5. Only had to wait two minutes for a table. It was packed and a little noisy, but we were still able to have a good conversation. Place was clean. The waiters were very attentive. We parked across the street in a parking lot for about for $15. They do have a liquor license. We opted for non- alcholic watermelon smoothies, only $2.50, very tasty. Prices for lunch and other dinners all seemed very reasonable. We walked around Chinatown on a very nice summer night. All in all a good night.

Best duck I’ve had.

By Cammz |

My new favorite place, very popular and the food is amazing. Recommend this place, a must visit when in Chinatown.

Lots of Hype

By Cait |

Admittedly, it was not the best duck or plum sauce I have ever had. They should have taken more time to trim the fat off of the duck, and the skin and meat should have been more clearly separated. I am also partial to a thinner slice than Sang Kee provides, but I understand Peking Duck is prepared differently everywhere. The dumplings we got as an appetizer were also drenched in a very slimy, very salty, unidentifiable sauce. It was still quite good, and I'd return, but I'm surprised Craig Laban rated Sang Kee as the number 2 for Peking Duck in the city.

Perfect Meal for a Chilly Evening

By K S |

I came here one evening after walking in the cold and received a warm greeting. I was seated by the windows and could see the wind blowing outside, placed my order and my appetizer and big bowl of noodle soup came very quickly. The soup broth was unbelievably tasty, and the calamari was perfect. The portions were large and I couldn't eat it all. More importantly, my soul was satisfied! Very reasonable.

Old school Peking Duck

By Joseph Kevin |

Grew up in Queens NY where Chinese food was only second to Italian. Sang Kee is authentic and outstanding! Peking Duck was old school - tender meat and crispy skin. Sautéed Bok-choy was outstanding. Shrimp fried was just right - not the greasy mess served by some places. Simple cafeteria style seating - go for the food not the atmosphere. 100% recommended and 100% will go back.

Get the wine ginger sauce

By Nicole R |

We saw this place on a “Must eat before you die” list. While we wouldn’t go that far, we did really enjoy our authentic Chinese meal here. We liked most everything we ordered. If you get the Peking duck, request the bao or dumpling wraps on the side instead of the tortillas. (We weren’t given an option but the table beside us got those and they looked WAY better than the tortillas.) The only thing we wouldn’t get again is the dumpling noodle soup. My husband didn’t love the dumplings but we loved the noodle soup otherwise. (I don’t like dumplings so didn’t try them.) I especially loved the broccoli with wine ginger sauce and the fact that they give you a couple dollops of complimentary ice cream at the end of your meal (one ginger and one coconut the night we went) plus the standard fortune cookies. It’s SUPER casual (paper napkins). The service was awesome—you can tell this staff believes in teamwork! We went at 7 pm on a Saturday and there was no wait but you can call to make a reservation to be sure.

Great food

By Golfer0222 |

Great food. There were seven of us. Everyone ordered a different dish. Service was outstanding. This was the second time we were here. Being from Florida was not sure how the food would be. If we ever go back in Philadelphia we will hit the restaurant again.

Very good take-out food!

By Marco B |

Picked up take out here on a friend's recommendation. Everything was very good and the sauces were all a little different from Chinese main fare. I don't know about the dine-in experience, but as far as their food, I recommend. Place was busy with a local crowd, so.. can't be bad.

By M G |

Ordered delivery from Sang Kee today and it arrived much sooner than expected and was amazingly delicious!! Everything was hot, packaged well and full of flavor. We had: roast duck and roast pork over rice, a braised beef wonton soup, roast pork noodle soup, crispy string beans, seafood bird nest, house special pan fried noodles, peking duck roll, shanghai soup dumplings, and soy sauce chicken. Was that a lot for two people? Yep, and who cares!! We're staying in town in a hotel (with a kitchen) for a few days so ordered a lot and MY GODS it was so good. Everything was delicious. My husband, who avoids green vegetables like the plague, inhaled the greens like a newly converted vegan. Sang Kee Peking Duck House - I <3 you!

excellent Chinese food

By inna s |

My family lived in Philly for one year and this was the best Chinese restaurant we found. We have been there many times and never got disappointed. Be sure to try the famous Peking duck. But all other items in menu are great as well. Especially we loved dim sam and desrts

Average Chinese Restaurant

By larryderm |

While the atmosphere is pleasant enough, although spartan, and the service was fine, the food is so-so. The steamed dumplings were doughy and on the heavy side. The Peking duck, which was supposed to be a 1/2 size, seemed much smaller. It was served in an unimaginative fashion; one of us liked it, while the other thought it was too mediocre to finish. The Singapore noodles were equally mediocre. All in all, not worth a second try, despite the many positive reviews.

Irresistable Roasted Peking Duck

By truongkv |

We've been to this restaurant several times and always had their famous roasted peking duck. It's simply very tasty and goes well with just about anything. We also like the Wonton Noodle with Roast Duck and Roast Pork. The wonton was excellent, the egg noodles were plentiful, and of course the roasted duck and pork were mouth-watering.

food is excellent-and reasonably priced too!

By KBinMB |

we had roasted duck as a starter. then chicken kung pao andopening duck - WOW! SO GOOOOOOOOD!!! Lots of locals. will definitely eat here again when i come back. it's super

Family style Dining

By TeamDavis1 |

Family style dining at its best. The food is always good. Don't ask for recommendations though because they look at you like you're crazy. We typically go, everyone orders one thing and we just pass plates and share. Their noodle soups, duck, 5 spice ribs, seafood...I could go on. Parking is a problem however. There is a lot across the street which runs around $15. They are usually crowded as well but worth the wait. Pricing varies depending on dish, but worth every penny.

Excellent duck

By viennaprelude |

I am always on the search for great (not just ok) Peking duck. Since it is usually so pricey then in my opinion it should be excellent. Sang Kee was referred to me and I was glad that I went. The duck was superb. I bought a whole one to go and it came with the traditional pancake, scallion and hoisin sauce. At the restaurant I ordered a quarter roast duck over rice. This too was very well prepared and tasted delicious. My friend had an order of steam pork wonton. There serving was more than enough for an appetizer dish so she had that for dinner. Total cost including takeout without tip $49. I would go again.

Reading terminal market -great Chinese!

By 01kitty01 |

Delicious! Coming to a new city, I get nervous about trying new foods! Limited time, limited stomach space, only want the best! First off everything is cooked in front of you so u can easily tell how clean it is despite hearing horrors about Chinese restaurants! Staff is very friendly. We had the duck and spare ribs with Lo mein. Wholly cow delish! The sauce for the Lo mein is out of this work, nom nom nom! The spare ribs was a little on the fatty side so be warned! Highly recommend if you are in the mood for some quick and yummy Chinese!

Popular - and with good reason

By phutty |

We visited the Reading Terminal Market branch of this popular eatery, where you'll fight with the crowds for a place in the line as well as for a table. The menu's extensive, but firm favourites can be ordered using an easy numbering system. $10 will buy you a filling roast duck and roast pork platter with Chinese greens and steamed rice plus a cold drink.

Best duck i have ever had

By Emanuele R |

We had peking duck and it was great. At first they give you the skin which is caramelized and you need to eat it with pancake. The they give you the meat of the duck with veggies. Both of them were delicious and I'll go there again for sure!

Always a great meal!

By harponit |

We went for aunts birthday. First time upstairs. Large table with lazy Susan. It was great.... delicious food and with 6 people didn't break the bank. We are from long island where there's a Chinese restaurant on every corner. We eat in NYC China town every few months. .. so we know quality. We go out of our way any time we're near Philly to go to here. Never had a bad dish.

Old stand-bye doesn't disappoint!

By David S |

I've been coming to Sang Kee for more than 30 years. Whenever I come to Philly on Business I try to make it for an eat in meal or take out at least. Fast service, excellent food - the Peking Duck can't be beat - anywhere. There are a lot of choices in Philly China Town - Sang Kee is worth it!

Amazing Food

By Phil B |

A member of staff at our hotel recommended this restaurant. It was amazing. A traditional Chinese restaurant where the only thing that is fancy is the food. The portions are huge (Brits beware) we ordered way too much but every course was delicious. The staff were attentive and friendly. It goes without saying next time we are in Philadelphia we will return. If you like authentic Chinese food you gotta give it a go.

Duck is the star, but other dishes also excellent

By sabai_sabai |

Don't be put off by the price of the whole duck, I've been here often and there is a secret to ordering here. When I go with 'regulars' there is a way we do this: 1) Come hungry, preferably starving, make reservations if going during a peak time or with a large party. Try to sit on the ground floor. 2) Don't order a half or whole Peking duck, instead order the duck roll appetizers. It's a Peking duck roll with slightly less duck than the full order, but much cheaper. Order a few of these per person. 3) Order one fewer main dish than the number of people to share. After the duck rolls, this will be plenty of food. We especially like the chicken with eggplant and the spare ribs. While not "cheap eats", this is still a good deal for great food. Chinese tea is free and with all the food, you're better off saving some room.

Great Meal!

By Sheryl K-B |

Thoroughly enjoyed our first visit to Sang Kee. We had a reservation and had about a 15 minute wait upon arrival. The place was packed-always a good sign. Our appetizers set the stage for a really great dinner-the watercress dumplings and fried wonton were really good; the calamari was amazing-had a little kick and the dipping sauce was so good. Everything we had was great-flavorful, fresh, colorful. The Peking Duck was fantastic-definitely satisfied the craving I had. We had one duck for the table and shared it along with other entrees (pork and rice, duck and rice, and a specialty noodle dish). Next visit, I’m having a whole duck as my entree and not sharing a single piece! So happy we tried it-can’t wait to return! Go-you won’t be disappointed.

You have to order their Peking Duck

By Yasu A |

My wife and I ordered a Peking duck from Sang Kee Peking Duck House. It was delicious (as good as a Peking Duck in Beijing, China) and cheap. A whole Peking Duck was around $35. You have try here when you are in Downton Philadelphia.

Real Peking duck and the rest of menu looks good too

By thomasdemaar |

Get the duck, it is authentic. That's why I went. Other patrons were enthusiastic about the soup and the rest of the menu looks like it will stand up.

Great duck!

By deedle6 |

The duck soup and roasted duck are the best around. Very good noodle and vegetable dishes also. Difficult to find free parking, however there is a parking lot across the street.

Delicious Meal

By Antoinette B |

This restaurant was recommended by friends that live outside of Philadelphia and I'm so glad we tried it. Delicious food...truly everything we ordered was excellent. Would go again next time in Philadelphia.Maybe I'd get the Peking Duck? It looked great, but we tuck with beef and broccoli as well as some General Tao. All excellent. The large ramen soups are fantastic.

Great Duck

By Lstapen |

Got there around 5:45 and they where busy, a good sign. Had to wait around 5 min. then seated us. We had a good waiter filled the water glasses when needed, had noodle soup with wontons and pork, came out good and hot, very tasty. My wife had sesame shrimp, it was good and a lot of shrimp, so much we took some home. We will be going back there when we go to Phil.

OFF NIGHT AT A FAVORITE

By John F |

We eat here once a month when we go to Philadelphia China Town to buy groceries. Last night we were assigned a new waiter. When we were served the claims and black bean sauce there was no bowl provided for the claim shells. When we finished our meal there was some duck left and we requested it be boxed to go, and tis did not happen. We ordered ice coffee for the ride home and it turned out to be nothing like the ice coffee we have come to expect. In our minds this was the third strike. He must be better trained or replaced. You decide.

Go for the Duck But Try Other Things

By joanz359 |

This restaurant has been around or years and has maintained a loyal following It has expanded and has a bar and if you have a large party, I would recommend reservations It is known for its Peking 'Duck that usually was hanging in the window Today we varied from duck and had the spicy wild mushroom salad, soft shells and a noodle dish The mushroom salad was a nice starter The soft shell came with spicy beans but no dipping sauce, and my friend had noodles and beef which was a contrast to the duck We were too full for dessert and took some food home. The staff is efficient and it is not the type of place to linger but they don't rush you out There is parking across the street.

My favorite place in China town

By ebfk |

Usually order the same items. Shrimp dumpling noodle soup and half Peking duck. Better Peking duck than I had in Beijing. Friendly staff. Ice cream and fortune cookies are complementary after the meal. Sometimes we get a "special" entree or shrimp dumpling soup without noodles. Bur a great restaurant experience. Join the club for free meals. We eat here twice each month.

Best duck in Philly

By wandaMPa |

The duck here is absolutely wonderful, crispy and flavorful. And the rest of the menu is very, very good. Rice is savory and interesting. I have no problem with the food at all. It’s quite tasty and plentiful. The venue is loud and typical, low brow, industrial “get em in and get em out” Chinatown. The service is uninterested and frequently you have to flag the servers down because they don’t attend to diners cues -- such as “we need to order.” If you want a great dining experience, it’s not for you. If you want very good Asian food and great duck and don’t care about the rest of the experience, you will love it.

Never disappointed

By ckatmomi |

The Peking Duck House is one of my favorite restaurants in Philadelphia. We have been eating here for many years and are never disappointed. The food is always good. Service is good and staff is friendly and helpful.

Tasty soup

By lhamilt77 |

Tried out the House Special Soup and also the Peking Duck Roll. Roll size was a bit on the stingy side, but I enjoyed the soup! Would come back again specifically for the duck.

Abundant Dinner for Four in Chinatown!

By nc4star |

Little did we know how much food we would be getting with the Family Prix-Fixe Dinner for Four when we also ordered spring rolls and steamed dumplings for appetizers! Oh my goodness ---- we had SO much food and sadly could not begin to eat it all. The Wonton vegetable soup, Peking Duck with pancakes and sauce, shredded duck meat with string beans in XO sauce, honey walnut shrimp, chicken with eggplant in garlic sauce, and house special fried rice ----- all were absolutely delicious! A complimentary dish of rainbow ice cream topped off the meal. This definitely was a bargain meal for the price we paid for our dinner ($88, I think, for the four of us). The service was quick and efficient.

Great food.

By Debbie O |

Loved the beef chow. A must! The chicken spring rolls and duck rolls are amazing. We will be back! We did not like the wonton noodle soup. Had a funny smell. The complementary ice cream was an added bonus. Food was priced very reasonable. My new favorite place in Chinatown.

Mouth Watering Duck

By Steph S |

Decided to visit Sang Kee after sampling a hoisin duck wrap at Reading Market, was not disappointed! It’s not cheap but I have to say the portions are incredibly generous and duck is just amazing. We ordered two different rice, chicken and shrimp and even the taste of those were better than anything I have had anywhere else. The staff were also incredibly friendly and attentive so I would highly recommend having dinner here if you get the chance.

Good value for money

By gldarnell |

Very good wonton soup and great value set lunch or dinner meal. Good food. The peking duck is average, the wrap is way too big, but it is ok even to Asian taste.

You MUST have a meal here if you're in Philadelphia

By Ken P |

This was my go to place when I lived in Yardley, PA. So many amazing dishes, too many to list. However, I remember that one soup was so good that eating it was a "religious experience", hence we called it sacred soup :) This soup had delicate won tons (that were made with shrimp) and also had roast pork. The last time I was in Philadelphia for a conference I made it a point to go there for every dinner.

Great lunch experience

By BernardSpinrad |

Wonderful Peking Duck in any of three ways: full or half duck, duck baos (2) or duck roll. Also had Tropical spicy shrimp. Everything excellent, prices reasonable

Nice roasted Peking Duck but nothing special

By Peter N |

We paid the restaurant a visit because my son and his daughter love Peking Duck and there are some good reviews of this restaurant. We would like to visit China Town in Philadelphia while we were visiting. The restaurant is quite full and we were glad to make a booking in advance. The food we ordered are ok without the wow factor. Peking duck is cooked nicely but this is the first time when someone served bones of the duck with the pancakes! Normally the bones are used for broth as a second course.

Sang Kee

By Hugh D |

We have eaten here with our family (cousins) for the past four years. It's convenient to parking and the subway. There were nine of us. We ordered the peking duck for four and just two additional dishes (lo men for vegetarians). Was more than enough food for everyone. It was duck, chicken and eggplant, beef and string beans. Wonderful food. We will continue to do this annual meeting.

Great noodles!

By _bobbysansone |

I went to the Sang Kee Peking Duck house with my friend and had the absolute best roast pork and noodles ever. The bowl of noodles was so full of noodles and the pork was seasoned really well. I would recommend this noodle house for a lunch anytime you are in Philadelphia. Be sure to have the noodle bowl.

Have the duck. It's getting rare to find it on the menu anymore

By RobbieSS |

Ate here because the aroma from their smaller lunch counter at the Reading Market was so awesome. Wasn't sorry! If you live in a big US city, maybe you can find Peking Duck. Since moving to the country, no duck for years. Took a large group to Sang Kee and the food was great. It was "authentic", meaning it was a lot of bones and shells that you don't find in most American Chinese restaurants. But it is different and FUN! Flavors of the food were more intense and more satisfying. Afterwards, you come away with a great, memorable meal, and really, isn't that the whole point?

Eat the Duck

By Rachel N |

We ordered the half duck- so juicy yet still had crispy skin. It destroyed Han Dynasty's duck from the night before- no competition. The beef chow fun was also on point and the garlic bok choy made a mild counterpoint for all the hot sauce I wanted to put on it. But seriously, the duck is the star here. Eat it.

Catching up with a friend...

By ScottyRock |

Outstanding, as always... l had my go to favorite once again, roast duck and wonton, noodle soup. It is a great deal at only $7.95. Anything and everything that l have had at Sang Kee has been superb. The servers are also superb.

Peking duck just like in Beijing

By Keira Mason |

Right on the outskirts of chinatown, this busy restaurant has take out and eat in. The peking duck was amazing. Crispy skin, pancakes and buns for it. One duck was perfect for 2 people. The crispy pig was also delicious. Prompt and friendly service. Huge selection of chinese food. Cant wait to return

Best place for Peking (or BBQ) Duck

By TravelLily007 |

As indicated by their name, the restaurant specializes in Peking duck. It actually has the best Peking duck or BBQ duck in Philadelphia. You can order a whole duck for about $28 to $30. You can have your Peking duck cooked in 3 dishes: crispy skins wrapped in thin pancakes (garnished with ho sing sauce and scallions), duck meat stirred fried with vegetables, and chicken bones cooked in soup, typically with tofu and vegetables. But instead of pancakes (more authentic northern Peking style) with your duck skin, they serve it with small buns. They have other dishes such as noodle soups, flounders, etc. You go here for the food, not ambience or even service.

No longer a customer

By Coastal05135258894 |

Half of the Main dish came out before the appetizers, when asked how long before the rest of our food was coming out, we were told it's on its way. 15 mins later we were told it would be 5 more mins. It doesn't take 30 mins to make fried rice and house lo mein. Felt like we were being rushed and the server never came to our table after taking our orders

Okay

By ns1991 |

My wife and I had a lunch here today. Had the duck buns, eggplant baked in salt, spicy pancakes. Paid about $30 including tip. We weren't too crazy about the duck - had better, both in the States and in China. The pancakes were reasonably good. The eggplant was excellent- that's why four stars, basically. Quite a hike through Chinatown all the way back to Vine street. Pretty basic interior, authentic service (prompt, but not particularly friendly). I'd probably try some other place for duck. Might be back for lunch some day. Or not. There are other places closer to downtown.

Our favorite place to eat when visiting Philadelphia!

By Lisakayhoffman |

We love to eat here when visiting Philadelphia. Great Peking duck, as well as tasty dim sum. Have eaten here many times over the past ten years and have never been disappointed! The dim sum sampler is amazing and is easily a meal for 2 people in and of itself. And the peking duck is the best around - love the duck with green bean stir fry! Prices are very reasonable - you get a lot of food for very little money.

Chinatown in Philly restaurant

Sang Kee Peking Duck House was recommended to us by the concierge at our hotel. We met Frans there and we were not disappointed. Our food was good. It's Chinese food goes you do have a lot to share. We did have a lot to share and it was a fun. You had your choice of chopsticks forks. The people were very accommodating. When we were leaving I needed a taxi and they called one for us.

Food excellent, but...

By MountLaurel |

Last night the food was as great as ever. We were seated upstairs and the service was absolutely terrible. The person who sat us gave us a picture menu. We had to ask someone for the regular one. Our server just disappeared. We had to call someone over to get water refills, more rice, etc. By the time the rice came, the entrees were cold. Come on Sang Kee, you can do better.

Lomein with Peking Duck

By Rozi O |

Went to get coffee the place was right behind me. And it was lunch time. So, I turned around a got me some lomein with Peking Duck. I asked them to cook it a bit spicy. Not!!!!!!!! anyhow, the lomein was delicious. The Peking Duck was succulent. They just sprinkle some hot sauce on top after cooking the lomein. haha ... that works

Inconsistent

By PelleasPhiladelphia |

"Inconsistency" especially regarding the hosting and waiters. All was pretty rude and inattentive from start to finish. Some food came very quickly (too quickly) and some took over 30min. Everything is good, slightly above average chinatown meal but nothing is particularly special.

Food is great

By nature-seer |

My wife and I met up with some friends I hadn't seen in 20 years and she had never met. Unfortunately, the atmosphere is so loud that we could barely hear each other. Also, it seemed like little attention was paid to us once our entrées were delivered. Water glasses were allowed to go empty, and my wife's ice tea was never refilled. Based only on the quality of the food, I would return. It was delicious.

Good food and reasonable price

By mahatma96 |

They accept credit cards except Discover and have liquor- good Peking duck - nice menu Fairly mediocre service and loudness of first floor seating only negatives

Great meal with family

By TRJRM |

We had a group of 11 of us for a family get together and had a nice time. The table was in a quiet spot and they did not rush us. The soups were served in large bowls enough to share with a few people. The duck soup had big pieces of duck in it that you had to pick up and eat off of a bone...not my favorite, but it was tasty. The dishes we got to share were good. The peking duck dish served with pancakes and scallion was a hit with most of us. The duck was tasty although the layer of fat between the meat and skin was a little too much for me! I had to cut some of it off. The fried rice was good. Chicken with cashews was garlicier than most chicken and cashews I've had, but tasted good. The other dishes were good too...chicken with ginger and scallion, shrimp and lobster sauce, and a few others I don't remember! They brought us fortune cookies and small scoops of ice cream to try...for free. There were flavors like red bean, green tea and ginger. Different, but most of us seemed to enjoy it. Would recommend this place for the food and service.

Very disappointing.

By Bob T |

Very disappointed in the food. The Peking Duck which is their house specialty was fatty and greasy. I only write this because a restaurant was formally excellent and if nobody brings this to attention. They’ll never go back to the way they were. It’s worth noting that the service was prompt, friendly, and efficient. Restaurant is clean.

Not what Peking Duck should be

By Timothy S |

Went for the second time Friday after the flower show. It was pretty awful. My friends had never had Peking Duck but they were game. We ordered other dishes as well. The duck looked right but it was served room temperature. It had not been rendered properly and it was way to fatty. The skin was not crispy as it should be. They only served scallions with it, no cucumber which is how I've always had it in New York and in Hong Kong and out in China. It was a big disappointment. The dumpling were terrible. The shrimp with ginger and scallions was tasty but the scallions were all the tops and impossible to chew. Then a few hours later the worst part occurred for all 3 of us. I called it Xi Jinping's revenge. At the risk of offering too much information, we had to keep the bathroom close for the next 12 hours. Terrible food poisoning. The whole thing was a disaster and not cheap either. Avoid this place at all cost. The place next door was closed by the Board of Health and I image this place will be next on their list!

Good Duck and Spicy Beef Noodle!

By Roosevelt N |

I've been here for the first time with a group of 8. We all order separated orders and got Peking duck serving for two. The amount was just enough for all of us! There was also complimentary ice cream after we get the check! Very quick and great service!

Best of the Best in Philly Duck Houses

By Fastphil111 |

I have been eating here since the early 70's when it was just a very small restaurant of the beaten path. The food has always been outstanding . The Roasted Pork noodle Soup, or any soup with your choice of meat or fish is worth a try. the Peking Duck remains one of my favorite. I have brought clients, friends, and even family over the years. They now also accept credit cards whicj makes it more convenient. Parking is always fun in Chinatown. You will not be dissapointed, Price depends on what you order. Portions are very generous, atmosphere awesome.

Delicious freshly cooked food

By Kat Proud |

Visited on Thanksgiving with a friend. Started out with three flavour dumpling soup. The broth here is superbly flavoured. We also had half a Peking Duck. Very tasty but we ordered half a duck and two legs arrived. Maybe it was a 4 legged duck. We did some small plates instead of full meals. The lobster rolls were served with a sweet dipping sauce that was really amazing. The shrimp and watercress dumplings were delicious. We also ordered the sticky rice with checken and sausage served in steamed leaves. Again very nice. Would have been a 5 but slightly let down by server who didn't really seem very interested.

Excellent Peking duck

By JPC_TP |

I have eaten here twice, both times having Peking (aka Hong Kong) duck. Service is good, food is very good.

Evening out

By tjcislosr |

Very good food. Ordered family style, best idea to share with all at table. Will be back. We are on border of China town and well worth the trip to visit.

Peking duck

By TravelEatXplore |

A 3.5 stars. Stopped by to grabbed a bite to eat and ordered some takeout. This place is a small place. They definitely make used of the space. I ordered char siu, the spicy noodle with cucumber. The char siu and the noodle was really good. Both had flavor. Then ordered the rice with roasted duck, char siu with green veggies and the star of the show is Peking duck, with scallions, wraps and hoisin sauce. The Peking duck is a must! There is parking in the lot. Don't try to park illegally cuz the meter police will ticket you.

Eat the Peking duck

By theprolixbloc |

Two words. Peking duck With two people, we had the half duck. It is enough I assure you. It's a little far from Chinatown gate but worth the walk!

Great authentic foods

By scorpiozgurl |

Some of the items offered on the menu reminded me of my childhood. We do love the roasted pork and beef noodle soup. The congee was very good too. Always had a great experience here and always had good food.

Best Chinese in Philadelphia!

By William M |

Best Chinese in Philadelphia! Wonderful Peking Duck but also very good noodle dishes, vegetable dishes and great side dishes. You can't go wrong eating here. Restaurant is clean and waitstaff is patient and tries very hard. Enjoy!

Good food, good service, get a reservation.

By frani48 |

I ate dinner at Sang Kee with 3 adults and a 2 year old. We enjoyed the food. The service was excellent as were the suggestions of the waiter. There were vegetarian options for me. The place was lively and full of families. I loved the eggplant, my companions loved the lobster in black bean sauce, rice noodles with shredded pork and mushrooms and we added broccoli. They also loved the crab and corn soup.. I have eaten here many times when I visit Philly and never had a bad meal. The price was very reasonable.

Excellent Peking Duck!

By OneGoodCook |

Truly excellent Peking Duck, worth traveling for (5 stars++). Juicy shao-mai dim sum were also very good. Other dim sum (shrimp, pork, sausage) were only okay (3 stars). Wait staff were attentive and friendly.

Great food and service

By shakergal2015 |

Yummy food, and super attentive service! Loved the beef tendon soup with dumplings. They have a little tasting menu, which , the day I was there , they couldn’t offer

Pretty good, if you're in a hurry

By Mark D |

There are so many choices inside the Reading Terminal Market, that it's difficult to pick. I have eaten at many, and this was a first for this restaurant. Everyone was pleasant, there were a couple of chairs at the bar, and the food was fine, but nothing special. Having said that, if you're passing through on a tight schedule, you can get a very decent meal for seven or eight bucks, and that's a bargain.

The best

By Rana_ran22 |

The best place to eat Peking duck in Philadelphia. Its little crowded but the surveys is fast and the food is great. I strongly recommend trying the Peking duck plater

Bad Service

By Frank D |

This place can be noisy. The last time we were there, we couldn't get any service. The waiter was too busy talking to his friends. We walked out.

Great food, very authentic

By Tommie08 |

Great food in a friendly and unpretentious atmosphere. We had the Peking Duck for 2, I highly recommend it!

Decent Chinese food

By yeulife |

Our friends raved about the food, especially the Peking duck. We found the food to be typical Chinese—nothing special. However, the duck was very good. Nice flavor, crispy skin, tender meat—quite savory. The best thing was when the waiter advised us that the best time to order duck is in the morning until mid-afternoon. Dinner is okay, but usually the best portion is gone. Overall, it was decent, not the rave that our friends told us. Judge for yourself.

You Must Eat Here!

By jon s |

My fiancee and I eat here every chance we get. She eats spicy and their food fits the bill. I eat moderate and their food is delicious! The wonton soup is heavenly. The shrimp dumplings are divine! We have tried many many items, have eaten here many many times and have brought many many virgins to this wonderful culninary experience. You will love it!

Just another average Chinese restaurant in Philadelphia

By GailCooks |

We went specifically so I could have Peking Duck. The good aromas wafting out as we entered the restaurant did not translate into good food. The Peking Duck was dry, cold, and bland. The Duck rolls were good. B had the Lovely Couple for the first time and really enjoyed it. I had a bite & it was better than the Peking Duck, but not enough for me to up my ratings.

We asked the locals where we could find a good restaurant that the locals eat at?

By Nungs65 |

We are Chinese Americans from the San Francisco Bay Area. I noticed that there were many local Chinese eating at Sang Kee Restaurant, which is a good sign. We ordered Won Ton Noodle Soup and Crispy Noodle Chicken Chow Mein and it was just as good as what we would get served in the San Francisco Bay Area. The price was fair; the restaurant was clean and the wait staff was good. I would recommend eating at Sang Kee.

FAV SPOT IN CHINATOWN

By MITCHELL B |

I start with the Steamed Dumplings(to die for) and they have the BEST Shrimp and Lobster Sauce anywhere! Went there for Lunch yesterday. I had Steamed Dumplings and the Shrimp Dumpling and Noodle Soup to try something different and it was great.

A great spot, but sometimes hit or miss.

By Alex L |

Sang Kee has been a place I've been to for years. The staff is friendly and attentive, but the restaurant is in dire need of renovation. Th furniture is pretty heavily worn and the table we sat at had a massive crack down the middle. The food itself is rather hit or miss, however is usually a hit. I ordered the rice noodle with beef and peppers in a black bean sauce. The noodles were very nicely cooked and weren't clumped like they usually are with many places, peppers and beef were cooked well, and there was lots of sauce to coat every part of the noodles, which most places skimp on. Sang Kee is a great spot for anyone looking to try authentic Chinese cuisine without draining your wallet.

Excellent and Authentic

By Blastandlaugh |

I just loved my experience at Sang Kee. Service was excellent and the food was top rate. I had the House Special Pan Fried Noodle. Beautiful plump shrimp, complemented by chicken, beef and pork. The sauce was not too heavy and had a wonderful flavor. I started the meal with a nice saki and hot and sour soup. Great meal in China Town Philly.

Amazing Chinese Food

By Philip |

Love this place, stop here whenever I visit Philadelphia. All the food is delicious but the Peking Duck is out of this world! The Tom Yum soup could not be better.

Love this place!

By RpII |

Never let’s me down. The duck rolls are delicious! Must have!! Don’t miss out!!! Such a great value and soooo very tasty. Dumplings are good too. Located in the Reading Terminal Market.

Favorite Chinatown restaurant Shrimp dumpling noodle soup

By ebfk |

Shrimp dumpling noodle soup, half Peking duck are our usual fare here. Amazing Jeweler recommended the shrimp dumpling soup 30 years ago. Ducks are hanging in front of the restaurant. Last night a customer selected her own whole duck to go. The restaurant does a great trade with locals. There are many interesting entrees besides duck. But the duck is our favorite. Meal concludes with two small scoops of ice cream. Green tea, red bean, coconut, banana, etc. restaurant now accepts credit cards.

Average

By MommyTraveler2 |

Sorry but only a 3-star because the dishes are overpriced and smaller portions. It is heavily seasoned so as a migraine sufferer, you will get a migraine that very evening.

Wonderful Chinese - Duck is fantastic

By NSL14 |

This is my favorite Chinese restaurant in Philadelphia at this time. It's certainly a bare-bones atmosphere, but the service is good and the food delicious. The Peking Duck is fantastic and a must to order and share among everyone at the table. Their soups are first rate and definitely order from their specialties. You won't regret it. Everything is fresh and nothing is every over cooked. They don't over sauce like other restaurants in this category. We go there every few months.

Beware!!!!! My credit card was stolen

By Hockeymomgg |

I had this feeling i should pay cash.... I didnt. The food was great but after that visit last night my master card was stolen. Ummmm.

one of my favorites

By Stinkanor |

I used to always do this restaurant for my birthday. It's still really great and we've been known to go well out of our way to eat here. The Peking duck is amazing, as are the dumplings. I usually wouldn't order General Tso's chicken in a "real" Chinese restaurant but their General Tso's is quite delicious as well. I think anything is worth trying in this restaurant.

Perfect if you like eating in Chinatown

By Alex F |

The food, atmosphere and people are just what you want them to be in Chinatown. There is a bit of a rush, a little less attention from the staff but delicious food. I am never disappointed by the food and the more traditional feel you get than other regular Chinese restaurants.

Rehearsal dinner

By Autoxer48 |

Went there for a preset dinner. I'm not a big fan of Asian food. This place rocked. They served about 15 different items. Soup, Peking duck, shrimp, short ribs, pork chops, lobster, fried rice and other things I did no. All of it was great. Service was very good and friendly. I would highly recommend it.

Inside the gorgeous Eastern Market a Chinese family owned treasure

By daniele5551 |

If you like street food, this is your place: they prepare food in front of you . Owner's daughter busy with wantons ,cousin with vegetable. Father to the cash (where else?). Chinese food in a very simple, healthy and inexpensive way. Uncle with Peking duck. American dream in a picture. Good luck Mr Sang Kee

Never a disapointment

By minookajoe |

First here as a grad student in 1976. 40 years later with grandchildren in tow, I continue to be a customer. Won ton noodle with pork all time favorite; noodles with scallions and anything else on the menu, including dim sum could not be better. The staff has had changes but all remain a delight! Best Chinese in Philadelphia for me.

An Awful Experience! Don't go in a large group!

By fauxmaven |

Although the food was OK, this was probably one of the WORST experiences I have ever had in a restaurant. We were TOLD to be there no later than 6:30. We were a party of 24 with reservations made several months ago, and a pre ordered menu. We were taken upstairs, although we had REQUESTED a table on the first floor. We were taken to 2 tables that normally seat 8-10, in a hot room. We sat for 20 minutes. We asked what was going on, and the waiter asked, " Are you ready?". The vegetarian broth, specifically ordered for our non flesh eaters, had shrimp and pork filled dumplings. I am sure the numbers of people packed in exceeded the fire safety rules. There was NO real service, just people bringing plates of food to the table. We have had many many dinners with our group of 24- it can be done! Totally a night to forget. This is my first 1 star review.

Delicious duck

By Keira Mason |

This restaurant never disappoints. It is my favorite restaurant when I come to Philadelphia. The Peking duck is delicious, just like Beijing! The skin is very crispy, it is not greasy. The pancake skins are fresh and soft. All the food is delicious and the service is prompt.prices are very reasonable

Go-to Chinatown spot for 30+ years

By Diane Z |

Can't go wrong at Sang Kee-- the Wonton Duck or roast pork wonton noodle soup, rice platters, Shanghai noodles. Over 35 years the quality has been only a little up and down- but service is fast, open late, and the classics are consistent.

Disappointment

By Arlynn H |

30yrs ago when I was a student we would go to Joe's Peking Duck. As he is longer in business this was recommend to us as an excellent choice. I had been looking forward to Peking duck and was deeply disappointed in the tasteless dishes that we received We ordered the Peking duck dinner for 2. The duck was golden lacquered but without flavor. The house fried rice was not fried rice at all but boiled rice with some small shrimp and scrambled eggs in it. We are familiar with the delicate flavors of Cantonese. This was not it. We came at a time that was not busy. Our service was polite and very efficient

Yuck

By funtimefamily12 |

Went here on Thanksgiving and it was crowded. The food was terrible. Fried shrimp dumplings was like a blob of shrimp fried. Sent it back and asked to have it taken off the bill. Moo Shu Pork looked absolutely disgusting, it looked prechewed. I took one bite and couldn't swallow it. Sent it back and asked for it to be taken off the bill. My daughter had Sweet and Sour Chicken. The only problem with that was they should have put the sauce on the side there was just so much sauce. The tea was loaded with leaves. Manager came and apologized to us, which was very nice and gave us ice cream. This restaurant was just not to our likeing.

Disappointing

By FrannyinPhilly |

The food has gone downhill significantly. The best of our 3 dishes was only passing. One was barely edible - the meat was tasteless and dry, and the sauce was gamey and sugary.

Huge Portions!

By Tetor22 |

Had to wait about 5 to 8 minutes for a table. On a Saturday afternoon, this place was hopping with customers; but staff was attentive and courteous. We ordered the Peking Duck Platter for Two for $43, and the wonderful food just kept coming! For a starter, they delivered an incredibly delicious Won Ton Soup with veggies. It was loaded with good stuff and we finished that big bowl, which they sent to our table with its own ladle. Next, came the duck. They really know what they're doing with duck, so if you're a duck fan, this is the place to go. The duck came with its own lovely sauce, served on the side, with raw veggies and pancakes. The duck was done to perfection. Then, our most efficient waiter delivered brown fried rice, loaded with shrimp, beef, peas and a variety of Chinese veggies. The next dish was a delicious string bean combo with more duck, mushrooms and other good stuff. It was wonderful! No complaints here. We had a lovely experience and enjoyed every morsel. Without a doubt, we will return to Sang Kee Peking Duck House.

Amazing

By JackieNPaul |

One of the best places to get Chinese food in the city. Some of the best dishes are the soups, noodle dishes, and chicken. They also have seasonal specials. I recommend always getting their iced tea.

Peking duck!

By minniemae |

This review is for the Sang Kee location at the Reading Terminal Market. It is a very small stall (amongst 90+ other vendors) with 5 stools/countertop with limited menu items revolving around duck. And so, I had a duck with wonton noodle soup. It was prepared right in front of me, nice, hot, fresh (and cheap). Yes I smelled like duck afterwards, it was a bit messy to eat with the bones included, and no elbow space sitting on a stool next to strangers but I enjoyed every bit of it. Next time, I would buy duck and eat it at home.

The bestChinese food ever!

By Keith F |

I’ve had peking duck a few times but this is the best I’ve ever had! The portions are huge and the food is amazing! Loved the sauce that came with the duck and the pork fried rice was so flavorful. We also had the steamed pork dumplings and they were really good. We also really loved the waiter call button on each table! I wish all restaurants would do that.

Decent Chinese food

By chargee88 |

Bit disappointed with the roast duck with 2 out of the 3 pieces essentially just bone and skin. Also got my order wrong I ordered roast pork and roast duck and was given BBQ pork and roast duck. Beef chow hor fun was fine.

Very good duck and congee

By David L |

I am impressed with the 2 dishes I ordered. The duck skin was crunchy and the meat soft and succulent. The century egg and shredded meat congree was very flavorful and full of meat, and not salty too.

This was a 1st

By SSI Traveler |

This was a 1st and I wasn't disappointed. Friends took me here for an authentic Peking Duck dinner. Fabulous is the only word that describes the meal. The service is excellent, attentive and really "manages the table." It was very crowded when we were leaving (~8:00) and I suspect that it's that way every night. Don't know if they take reservations, but doubt it. Crowded, noisey, delicious and low key. Perfect!

Peking DUck!!!!!!!

By Rozi O |

Peking duck!!! what else to say about it. It is majestic food. hahahaha I love peking duck. Location is easy to find and walking distance to the CC. Or you take UBER. I walked every where when I stay at CC hotels. Philly is one of the best city IMHO.

Always good food

By Alan9Pal |

We've been going here for years, whenever we're in Phila. Great food. Hard to park, unless you use the parking lot across the street.

Great bowl of noodle.

By Roha100 |

Sang Kee or also known as the duck place, is perfect for a great bowl of noodles. Just a block from 5he center of Chinatown, corner of ninth and Vine.

To go

By Maria M |

Very disappointed from this purchase. We picked this restaurant because it had good ratings. We even ordered extra duck. But when we got home, most of the duck was very bony. Total disappointment.

A Philly Icon...One of the First

By Fastphil111 |

I have been going here for decades. Once upon a time there were only a couple of tables and I believe the Kitchen was downstairs. It was literally like eating in someone's kitchen. The food has remained very good and reasonably priced. The duck is awesome. the gigantic bowls of soup with choices or Meats or seafood a must. The place has expanded over the years, but remains one of my favorites, They also have an ATM machine and just recently accept credit cards. parking located across the street. A Five Star Favorite in Chinatown.

Appetizers were best part of meal

By ERSK1988 |

Listed in Philly tourist magazine as a Chinatown "go-to" and it was walking distance from son's apartment (where we were visiting). BIG menu, lots of options with photos, too. We enjoyed our appetizers the most (dumplings and rolls). Soups and noodle dishes were fine. With so many Chinatown options, we'll be trying another place on our next visit.

Generally pretty good Chinese food

By jeff f |

The food was mostly very good except the house special rice was dry and not very flavorful. It came out long after our main courses, so I wonder if it was sitting under a warmer for a prolonged period of time.

Best Restaurant in Philly Chinatown

By Stan C |

Best duck house in Philadelphia. The Roasted Pork Noodle soup is superb, the Peking Duck is excellent, and try steamed shrimp dumplings. Wait staff is very efficient and helpful. Owner/chef has added some unique dishes for an American Chinese restaurant.

Pretty much as advertised

By jmcpher3 |

The place seemed to be always packed, both when we walked by around lunch, and when we came for dinner. Clientele seems to be mostly local - which I interpret as a good sign). Having traveled throughout Asia, I would say this is not the VERZY best duck I''ve had, but the service, and the food were very good. Plan on a wait.

Excellent Food and Service

By Sheila T |

My sister and I stopped in for dinner at this very nice Chinatown restaurant. The food was delicious and perfectly prepared. We wound up ordering a starter and 4 small dishes. Each dish was better than the next. The service was wonderful. Everyone made sure we were happy with everything. And the price was perfect. Definitely a place we will visit again.

Excellent duck

By Luuk H |

Just great food for a very reasonable price. Had the peking duck dinner for 2. Four good courses!! Would definately recommend!!

Duck inside for great food

By chetnluz |

no trip to Philly would be complete without a stop to Sang Kee to bring home a delicious duck, they chop it up for you and give you an amazing sauce to pour over it. Yum Yum.

Lovely, lovely duck...

By Carol F |

I googled "best Peking Duck in Philly" and Sang Kee came up. We looked at the menu online and saw it was reasonably priced (esp when compared to the prices we were seeing for it in NY which we were continuing on to). So we stopped after a day at the Museums. The duck was wonderful - arriving at the table beautifully carved and presented - dark mahogany skin crisp and glistening - tender, moist meat with almost no fat - the pancakes (large and pliable), the scallion brushes and hoisin sauce - we were in duck heaven. Only confusion was menu had indication of "add second course $5" so we ordered a baby bok choy (again, excellent and done just as we requested) only to discover that we were charged full menu price for it - when we inquired, the waitress said that the second course was a particular dish - this was not made clear to us when we ordered. Other than that, it was exactly as we hoped and we considered it the high food point of our stay in Philadelphia.

Zestiest peking duck in philly

By Kesh |

Sang Kee is a Philadelphia staple. I have been here a few times and enjoyed every visit. I always make sure to get the peking duck which is great to split between two people. The steamed pork dumplings are also very good. Highly recommend if you're craving legit chinese food.

Introduced to Peking Duck

By BillM551 |

My wife, grandson, and I ate lunch at Sang Kee Peking Duck House. I chose this restaurant because I wanted to try Peking duck. I was disappointed in the Peking Duck; I expected more flavor. Also, it was served cold which I did not expect. Vegetable soup and egg rolls were delicious. Probably would not return to try other restaurants in the area.

Delicious food and great service

By GOarmywife |

My cousins in Philly have been raving about this place forever, I finally got to dine here with them last night. I have been all over the US and Europe and can say without a doubt that this meal was outstanding. The duck was superb, the soup, noodles and dumplings were amazing. We also had lobster, pork and beef, all of it was fantastic. The service was terrific, too. I lived in Philadelphia for twenty-four years and dined in Chinatown many times, this place is your best bet.

Excellent Chinese food dinner!

By Sillydg |

Every dish was delicious. Peking Duck was a real treat. Modest prices, great service. Will definitely return next time I'm in Philly.

Excellent

By Richard C |

One of the best deal for the price in Chinatown. Duck is standard fare. If you're in a pinch with $, order the wonton noodle soup, it is filling and delicious for lose to nothing! You can also now get delivery online through a third party website!

Pleasant but not overly impressed

By ChampagneKissez |

I must say our expectations were higher for this place. We had the 1/2 duck, house noodles, and chinese broccoli with ginger. While it was all tasty, other dishes around us seemed "better". Everyone else's duck was huge chunks, on bone, ours was flaccid and thin. Looked like a totally different dish. Filleted, no bone. Only half of our skin was crispy, thats the whole point of this, isn't it?! The meat pieces were so tiny, for $22, for a 1/2 duck. Again, it was tasty... just not what we saw everyone else getting. The noodles were ok. Pork, chicken, shrimp and thin noodles. Chinese broc was delicious except that is was nearly all stalks vs leafy green. Just seemed like this could have been better. Maybe our expectations were unrealistic. We enjoyed the evening because we were there and having fun together. But will likely try another place before going back.

Pleasant Dinner

By Cheryl D |

Spring roll and steamed dumplings were very good. Hong Kong style roasted duck was great, and Moo Shu veges were tasty. I'd hoped they might make the pancakes in house, but they were tortillas. Complementary little scoops of ice cream at end of meal were a nice touch (and tasted like they could've been made w/frozen bananas)

Delicious, but expensive

By Wanli M |

Pro: the Peking duck is delicious. It's not easy to find such restaurants in the US. Con: the serving size is much smaller that expected. In Beijing, a full duck can serve almost 6 people, but here at most 4. The waiters seem very rude. The restroom is terribly dirty.

Great place for family dining.

By Kevin S |

The food was very good, great place to take families or friends to have dinner. Food can be shared as it comes in a good quantity. The service is decent and quick.

Sang Kee is highly recommended.

By robert j |

Sang Kee is highly recommended. The food is quite good and the prices are excellent. The staff is attentive and professional.

The Best Chinese Food Anywhere!

By Len |

This is our favorite Chinese restaurant in the world! We come here often because everywhere else is disappointing in comparison! Tonight we had wanton noodle soup, Peking duck rolls, Peking spare ribs, General Tao's Chicken. Everything was delicious. We enjoyed the complimentary ice cream and fortune cookies as well! This is the BEST in the area. You will not be disappointed.

Almost 5 Star

By Mistyfuji |

The food is delicious at Sang Kee Peking Duck House. We were there on January 18th for dinner. It was a good twenty minute walk from our hotel which was across from City Hall, but even in the cold, rainy weather, it was worth the walk. We immediately got a table for 3 people. She tried to sit us by the wall, but I asked for the window table and that was no problem. It was cozy and the real flowers in the vase was a nice touch. We started with the peking duck spring rolls, which were rolled in a pancake and not fried. It was a little pricey at I believe $3.95 per roll, and the roll was not large, but it was very tasty. For the main dishes, I had the peking duck with ground pork and mixed vegetables, mainly string beans. It was excellent. My son had the sweet & sour chicken and it was also delicious. It had the lightest of fried crust and was not greasy. It also came with pineapple and red & green peppers. Yummy. My husband had the lamb chops over bock choy....another fantastic dish with plenty of chops. Lastly, we had the wonton soup and it's the best wonton soup I've ever tasted. The homemade wontons were stuffed with a shrimp & pork meatball that was to die for, and the soup was a plain broth with chopped scallions. For the small soup, you get 4 wontons. It was so incredible that I would return just for the soup. Okay, why didn't I give this a 5 Star rating? Here's why. At the end of the meal, I went to the ladies room and there was an employee there who did her business and then left. She did not wash her hands....Gross. Lastly, the restaurant wasn't crowded, but they definitely try and scoot you out of there...kept wanting to take dishes that weren't quite done with. Other than that, the staff was very accommodating and the food was perfect. If you liked my review & thought it was helpful, please click the thumbs up button. Thank you.

Good AUTHENTIC Chinese Food

By Anthony N |

I'm big into traditional AUTHENTIC Cantonese Foods and I love this little place! The food is always consistent and fresh. Love their soup, shrimp dumplings and house special Cantonese Chow Mein with crispy fried Noodles! The staff could take a lesson in being more curteous and friendly but thats part of being in a restaurant that caters to mostly Asians Cliental (no disrespect intended).

The Place for Roast Duck

By Willie G |

This was our favorite place for roast duck when we lived in the Philadelphia area more than 20 years ago. On a recent visit to see friends and family we hit their Chinatown location for lunch. Of course we had to wait for a table but the duck was worth the wait. Their noodle soups are also great.

Used to be good

Growing up in the greater Philadelphia area, my family would frequent Sang Kee. It was very common for my step-father to stop by and pick up delicious roast pork and roast duck on the way home. We always enjoyed it. However, years later and after moving out of the area, my husband and I would visit Philly and of course we had to stop by Sang Kee for the peking duck and buns. We went with my sister who still lives in the area and order a bunch of dishes family style in addition to the peking duck. Being Asian myself, I am familiar with the rather rough style of customer service. Many restaurants want to serve as many people as possible so they often make you feel rushed, but it's fine cause I usually am just there to eat and get out quickly as well. This particular time was different. We had about 3 servers, as is normal. They were sloppy and rude. It's one thing to work fast, but I felt like a farm animal while they dumped off food on the table, practically throwing it. The peking duck buns were STILL FROZEN in the middle. When we asked about it, they brought them back for further steaming, but by the time they came back out, our duck was no where near as fresh as it should have been. When we wanted to talk to a manager about our experience, we were told there was no manager. When confronted by my sister who asked them straight out if they were lying, they finally brought out the supervisor who was understanding. For whatever reason, we decided to come back and give it another shot. This time with my in-laws. We ordered the peking duck again hoping they would get it right. Everything seemed fine and the buns were steamed, but then I found a small hair. I sort of laughed it off to my husband, but he was not amused. Mine you he is the most calm person ever, but at that point he yelled for the waiter. I was shocked and thought it wasn't THAT big of a deal, but then he said to the waiter, "You know, I wasn't going to say anything but this is incredibly inappropriate. I have pulled SIX hairs off of this plate and there is one currently in my mouth." He proceeded to pull a long black strand of hair out of his mouth and show the waiter. OMG, I nearly threw up right there. Even the waiter, who to be fair was very nice, was highly disgusted. He took it off the bill, but I'm sorry, if this is the standard of hygiene in an area where I can SEE them preparing food, what is it like in the back kitchen where I can't see them? SO GROSS.

Succulent Duck.

Consistently good. Great value and creative menu built around roast duck. consistent and quick service. The next great duck spot that compares is in Nyc. They get a 5 star recommendation based on the food alone. Highly recommend the duck noodle soup.

Still one of my favorites - especially for duck

There are a few other Chinese restaurants in Chinatown with unusual (for westerners) things on the menu, which I love to try. Sang Kee has some of the more popular of these unusual items, but they are known for duck. I love the Hong Kong style roasted duck, so I am torn each visit on whether to just get the duck again or try something else. The service has always been very good and fairly friendly (considering it is Chinatown and they tend to seem cold as servers almost everywhere). The prices are also reasonable. They do take reservations, too. Finally, there is a new delivery service.

Authentic Chinese Restaurant in China Town

The Peking Duck was very nice. The other dishes were also authentic and nice. It is not a fancy place though.

Been my favorite Chinese in Philly since 1984

I've been going to Sang Kee since it was a little six table hole in the wall at this location back in the '80's. Now they have multiple locations across the area which are all great but this one is still the best. The food is authentic, consistent and delicious. Things I would recommend that are exceptional are: shrimp dumpling noodle soup, clams in black bean sauce, roast pork and obviously the duck. If I could only eat at one Chinese restaurant for the rest of my life, this would be it.

Chinese food during the holidays

Above-average Chinese food - yummy stir fried noodle dish and sea food selections. Good for takeout. Will come back for the set dinners.

Outstanding! - all around

This family of 5 thoroughly enjoyed our dinner here Sat night 6:30pm. Parked in a 3-hr spot on the street just 2 blocks down on Ninth st. It was rainy and the start of the Chinese New Year but we walked in w/o reservations and were quickly seated at a table for 6 on the 2nd floor which was quite roomy. Our waiter was very good, fast and helpful. Our dishes came out 1 or 2 at a time each in perfect timing after we finished what was on the table. It was just the right amount of food where we barely had leftovers. Here’s what we ordered for $200 and left a $40 tip. 5 duck rolls - hot and full of meat and sauce, 6 duck boa - room temp duck in a soft bun very tasty (serving of 2 is $7.95), fried calamari - tempura battered cooked well but less than 10 rings I found to be a small portion, scallion pancake - cooked well comes with dipping sauce but shocking portion was too small for the ridiculous price of $7.95 (we each got 1 triangle slice), salted eggplant - tempura battered Japanese eggplant with crumbles of salted garlic, pepper, and onion was just divine and not too salty at all (my favorite dish of the evening), 2 servings of crystal shrimp dumplings - a standard for the kids, seafood lo mein - not on the menu but they offered to make it (came with shrimp and scallops), 3 large bowls of soup with meat, dumplings, and noodles - 2 seafood and 1 roasted duck, these were the best price deals because they are a very large portion and had great taste, very filling, and finally a whole duck with large plate of rice and plenty of the natural drippings from the duck - this was $33 and was juicy and tasty, just perfect. I got a hot sake $7 and the kids got milk tea and mango smoothie. Disposable hand towels at the end were great to remove the grease from your hands. A very good meal. It was quite noisy in this place - some groups were absurdly loud but when the food has your attention you tune out the lit 20 somethings. Definitely will return on our next trip to Philly and will not order calamari or scallion pancake but only because of the price for small portions. Thank you Duck House.

Peking Duck

By Scott O |

The service was good. Had to use the upstairs dinning room hard with a baby carrier. But all the food was just fabulous. We all tasted each other's dishes. The peking duck was great, as was the general tso's chicken and it wasn't nuggets it was chicken breast fried and sliced.

Excellent Food in No-Frills Space

By Diver Dan |

Found our way there after reading TA reviews and were not disappointed. But seems well-known by locals. As the name suggests, the Peking Duck was really, really good, devoured by 4 people. But so was everything else, including the care they take with not overcooking vegetables, and keeping the sauces light. Very generous portions. For Cantonese style, hard to think of something better. They also have a stand in the Reading Terminal Market. Reasonable prices.

Peking Duck!!

By T D |

This is the original Sang Kee restaurant in Chinatown - there are a handful of others spread out the Philadelphia/ Cherry Hill area, but this is one of our favorites. Their speciality is Peking Duck and Noodles. Delicious! In recent years, they've also added dim sum dishes to their menu. Their Peking Duck roll and Peking Duck Bao are so addicting!!
