Ridiculous concept

By 564-knut |

The place is gorgeous, no doubt about it. Brings back Hollywood's golden age, 1920s vibe. Just beautiful, very well lit. Brilliant and very attentive and charming and welcoming service. ( They still need to learn a bit about the basic hospitality, but the try their best and they are getting there.) The pricing of the food is just ridiculous, they are not El Bulli or Gavroche or any such Michelin starred place. Perhaps they thing they are. Modern cuisine with bit of a twist, nothing you would write home about, but tasty. They charged 75 USD for a 4 course meal, but then I hat to pay 8 USD extra for my tiny pork-belly and another 13 USD extra for some carrot-side and 5 USD for two burnt slices of pita-bread, seriously ??? I try to remember what I actually got for my four courses. It started with a micro-fish-portion, it was so little I needed a magnifying-glass. Followed by the pork-belly which was so small with nothing on it that I did not understand what exactly these extra 8 USD were for. The desert was a yummy chocolate-cake. The fourth course was a bowl of pasta with an egg on top, very boring. My friend had ribs that were OK but not special. The other friend had New York steak, which was not tender and they charged a mere extra 38 USD for it, for what ? To make a long story short we endet up paying 500 USD for a group of three and did not even have vine. The cocktails were 19 USD each. The place is a joke. Would not go again.

Love the ambiance. The dining room is pleasant and quiet enough to talk.

I visited Santuari today with two friends for a birthday lunch, and we all very much enjoyed the setting and the food. The staff members are all friendly and personable. My friend recommends the hamburger. Our favorite dessert was the delicious cheesecake with a baklava crust.

Sanstuari is a true "Sleeper of a Restaurant"

By Howard T |

Santuari has been around for years and even though I live fairly close I never heard of the restaurant until a friend recommended it. My wife and I had different types of salad's and meat dishes and everything was outstanding. The service is excellent. The unusual thing is that there seemed to be two very different types of dress. Some people dressed really casually as the restaurant is in a Tennis and Fitness Club. Other's looked like old time Toluca Lake - and were dressed for a special occasion on a Saturday night. I guess both work there.

Great Discovery!

Discovered this amazing restaurant over the weekend. Not sure why we had not heard about it but glad we tried it. Food was amazing - scallops were perfectly cooked and the sea bass excellent as well. And the best beet salad we've ever had. Will definitely be back soon with friends.

Creative and delicious cuisine

We enjoyed the unique and delicious dishes including the pumpkin hummus and persimmon dessert. The homemade pasta and beet salad with pistachio vinaigrette were outstanding. The wine pairings made this lunch even more enjoyable!

Below-average food for a high end restaurant, poor service, and freezing cold

Sure I get it - Covid. But that is no excuse for a very expensive Valentine's Day dinner where the beet salad was the best thing. My lobster had one bite so bad - putrid - that I ran to the restroom and spit it out. I would have discretely spit it into my napkin but I had no napkin despite asking several times. The risotto was gummy and clumpy, bland and under-spiced. We brought special wine and paid their high corkage fee, but all they did was bring an ice bucket and pour one round. We had to pour the rest and open the second bottle. Water refills? Pour it yourself! We rarely saw our waiter. The dining was outside in what used to be a tennis court. There wasn't a tent roof so it was really cold, especially when they took away the heater nearest us. At a table nearby a young woman had a bare-shoulder blouse and no jacket. She looked so cold! Did the staff try to help her? Nope. Finally I asked a passing waiter to put a heater near her.

Wagyu Steak Yes Please

This is our second time ordering this amazing piece of meat and it does not disappoint. Easily shared between 3, making the $190 price tag is worth it.... but even if you just indulge for one person it's worth it. Our server TJ was awesome and so knowledgable. Such a great place. We also ordered a homemade ravioli stuffed with fresh mozz and topped with this amazing black truffle that was so fragrant it could have been white truffle..... Can't say enough and yep we'll be back.

What a surprise!

When we asked our Hotel Concierge to recommend a restaurant this was on the list. Our first trip was a disaster as our GPS kept sending us to a Lot on the Warner Brothers Studios. Not to be discouraged we tried again the next night and found it tucked inside the Lake Toluca Tennis Club. Each of us had different appetizers and main entrees and each were excellent. This place calls itself "farm to table" and every entrée was unique and filled with local ingredients. Try the Roasted Carrot Hummus for sure - it's enough to feed the entire table. Our server was exceptional - explained each dish - checked on us frequently to be sure we were pleased with our choices. The portions are very healthy so much so we only ordered one desert - which were shared. If you are in the area - go! So worth it!

A Hidden Gem

Santuari is a beautiful restaurant. We went for Brunch and the food was marvelous. It is not a huge menu but the variety of options is great. The short rib hash was delicious as was the Crab Benedict.

Loved it

We came here to celebrate our dear friends 24th Wedding Anniversary. They had a lovely jazz band and it was a perfect night to sit outside Our waiter was great and the food was better than i had anticipated. Restaurants in clubs are either hit or miss, but this was really good. I brought a couple of bottles of wine ($25 corkage) and we started off with some apps. We had several: Octopus, Black truffle toast, Mushroom polenta and the burrata and ham. All were delicious. Then we moved onto a ceasar, short rib, lamb and steak frites......i thought it was all very good except the short rib was a bit tough and I would not order it again. Finally finshed up with the chocolate budino which was great. It was a lovely evening and the pacing of the food was also great. Definately will be back!

Lovely atmosphere with cozy

Lovely atmosphere with cozy and open seating options. Menu limited but several options. Starters of octopus and mussels superbly done—just one tentacle FYI. Half chicken awesome, bass “okay”. Sides are family style u unbeknownst to us—the fingerlings were “okay”, burrata berry unusual, mashed potatoes amazing. Service okay.

Amazing place: Great Food, Amazing Atmosphere

I can't say enough about this new place. It's awesome... and I don't say that lightly. I'm a foodie, so a bit particular and this place delivered. AND they have good espresso so that was a big bonus. I started with the little gem caesar type salad, the perfect blend of fresh salad and citrusy dressing. It was great. Then had a pasta dish, wow! loved it. My hubby had the steak sandwich and it was really excellent. He got mad because I kept taking bites, but couldn't help myself because it was so good! The music they played was down tempo and really gave a nice vibe and the setting... a gorgeous moroccan, french, mediterranean vibe. Huge fireplace. Very sexy. I have been for lunch and dinner and it has never disappointed. A great addition to the Toluca lake dining scene and LA in general.

Outstanding!!

Santuari is absolutely outstanding! On the recommendation of friends who have dined here repeatedly we went there for dinner and loved it. From the friendly manager and waiter to the beautifully prepared food (Modern American) and wine selection, everything was great. The ambiance is also lovely. I highly recommend Santuari, and will definitely go back again the next time I'm in the LA area - it's perfection!
