Went to Saravana bhavan with family. Food was good and service was quick. Ambience is good. Enjoyed the lunch.

We've been there several times and have yet to be disappointed with the food or the service. If you are a fan of south Indian cuisine, you'll definitely enjoy the food here. There are multiple selections of dosa, idly and uthappam that provide something for everyone. There does seem to be a difference in the amount of heat from time to time as the last venture there provided dishes that were very spicy. All the entrees we've tried have been flavorful and now they are serving some curries whereas in the beginning, it was only dosa and the like. It isn't the cheapest eats in Houston, but it's far from the most expensive. Overall, a great experience and we'll definitely go back. I'd also like to point out that it is large enough for a substantial group of people if that is what you need.

Excellent place.Authentic South Indian food as you will taste in their Indian branches. Pretty consistent and authentic.Love the food. Good helpful staff.

Great ambiance, quick service, and quality vegetarian - Indian food in Houston. Don't expect buffet. But great selection of foods from the menu at reasonable prices. Found the place to be clean, including the bathrooms. Don't forget to take a peek at kitchen through their glass walls. Highly recommend it.

Loved the food, ambience, service n cleanliness. Lot of food. My 8 yrs old son enjoyed it. Recommend to try!

Hotel Saravana Bhavan,Houston. Situated in the busy shopping centre at Westheimer Road Houston, this restaurant attracts pretty decent crowd always. It has a nice ambience, large dining area, quick service, friendly hostesses and above all a large variety of South and North Indian culinary fare. Their Executive and Special Saravana Bhavan Thali is elaborate with sufficient quantity of tasty food. As usual their rava Dosa and dosas are very large and their Parotta Kurma is at its best. Special mention should be made about their steaming South Indian Coffee in the traditional stainless silver ware. Pricing..... little on the high side, but the food is worth the money. A good place to visit again.

After living in Chennai for many years I was so happy to find a branch of Saravana Bhawan during my recent visit to Houston. Even though we arrived almost at lunchtime closing the staff was nice to us. The extra large uttapam and dosa came out quickly on traditional steel trays with sambar and three kinds of chutney. The taste did not disappoint! I wish I could go back to try more of the menu.

best thing about this is ambiance with reasonable price and good service. the staff is courteous food served is warm unlike other places. also try the coffee which is best in all south Indian restaurant in Houston. don't go there if you are looking for north Indian food . its authentic south Indian . best thing is there is NO self service. i hate self service

The food was not great nor fresh . Staff needs to be taught how to become hygiene friendly .Menu should be more informative.

You can always be assured to get home-cooked Dosas and Idllis at all locations worldwide. A great place to go if you are missing some really delicious south indian fare and lip-smacking sambar.

Our family went out with high hopes since this is a renowned Indian eatery back home. Unfortunately, most of the stuff is not too good. Sad. The Idli-Vada combo is fine. The dosas are well made - unfortunately the masala inside the Dosa is not good. The onions smell. The sambhar is sweetish, and not well made. The horror is in the chutneys. The coconut being used seems to be dry, and not fresh coconut, which makes the chutneys dry. The onion in the red chutney was blended without roasting, which is why the chutney was also smelling. Overall, not recommended. Sad, because customer service is attentive. But, it is what is there on the plate that matters!

If in a mood to try only South Indian veg food then this the place. I liked the crispness of Dosa, chutneys were ok only.

Very Good environment, spacious, clean and neatly designed interiors. Special meals during lunch has whole lot of dishes, tastes proper south indian. remain being in South india,

The customer service was excellent and food as well. I had a thali along with sweet lassi and rasam. Really enjoyed the dinner very much.

Wondeful staff - very prompt and helpful. Amazing and authentic food - we loved the Chana Bhatura (massive size Bhatura) and the paper dosa. Thali was also excellent. Definitely worth multiple visits!

We went to celebrate Memorial Day together with some friends at this restaurant of which we had heard raving reviews of its branch in Canada. We went with a lot of expectations, but we were quite disappointed. One of the couples arrived a few minutes late. They hadn't even sat down when the server came and asked if we were ready to order. Anyway, we ordered and within minutes everything was brought together, the appetizers (Medhu Badas) and the main dishes - these huge plates with the dosas & combos. There was no space on the table, literally! Once they served the food, though they were standing around, not one of them came to ask if we needed anything. They were not happy when we called them and asked for more water or to remove the empty plates. At the very beginning we had requested three separate checks to which they had agreed. Well at the end only one came! Again we had to request a not so happy waiter to get it changed, which they did. Service was terrible! As for the food, our friends thought it was ok but not to the class of what one of them had tasted in Canada. For me it was bland. I had the Masala Rava Dosa. The stuffing was quite tasteless. The environment was very nice, open and lots of space and very family oriented. May go back but not in the near future.

Loved it! Tried Milgaipodi masala dosa Rava idli Executive meal Coffee 2nd visit: Ghee idli Onion rava masala dosa Cheese dosa Tea

Tasty fresh authentic South Indian food in a nicely decorated atmosphere with good service and relatively reasonable prices. Udipi is less expensive but the atmosphere here is better. The restaurant is usually crowded on weekends (when I go)..but service is fast and food very fresh. Not too spicy. Have liked everything on the menu so far!

We were the first ones for dinner. The quality of the food wasn't too great- tasted a little stale and under flavored. Was not impressed at all. Service was also very slow despite being the only customers. Food is also overpriced.

Craving Indian food in TX? Saravana Bhavan is just unbeatable. Same taste no matter where you go. This Saravana in Texas is no different. It's located in a neighborhood that has several Indian restaurants, but Saravana stands out. Great dosas, great idli and sambar. Fantastic service as well. Really good value for money south Indian restaurant in Houston. You won't be disappointed.

This place serves great south Indian food, though its a bit pricey but in texas there are not many places where you can find good vegetarian food and this one is a great treat

A vegetarian Indian restaurant with a very authentic menu. No buffets at this restaurant but Dosas and other vegetarian dishes are offered. Friendly service, clean tables, and quality food.

Saravana Bhavan is better in Houston than in Indian nowadays...I had South Indian Rice plate.. which is good, however I think we should eat more of dosas and tiffins over here. Little expensive

No doubt food is tasty, but not sure if cleanliness and hygiene of utensils is emphasized here. I had coffee served in a small stainless steel glass. When I was about to finish my coffee, I realized that the inner surface of the glass had patches of thin brown layer which clearly indicated that the glass was not been properly cleaned for a period and seems being reused by rinsing with water. I took a picture of this unhygienic glass and raised the issue with the waiter. So, the cost of coffee that I had paid was refunded. I wonder, if the restaurant is not even bothered to server food in clean and hygienic utensils, what would be the condition of the utensils that are used to prepare food.

We have been to many Saravana Bhavan South Indian Restaurants in US and other country. We were driving on Westheimer and show the sign in a small shopping mall. The reason we came having established name in the world and great food. Whatever reason the staff was unable to provide food and service. The kitchen is open with glass and you can see all activities. We ordered two Masala Dosa and Two Chhana Bhatura. the dosa were served burned and potato curru was very over cooked and watery. No taste at all. The other order didn't arrived for 40 minutes. I approached manager and asked about our order and why such poor service. Few spanish young boys were preparing food and working in kitchen. It is a shame that this establishment is giving bad name to this Franchise.

This restaurant serves really tasty authentic South Indian meals. The food presentation is good and the staff is helpful if you are not familiar with South Indian food.

I have been to many Saravana Bhavans, in NY, Singapore, KL and Dubai. The one in Houston is relatively new (about a year old) and away from the traditional Indian eateries of Hillcroft. The decor is very nice (for a typical South Indian place), the service is prompt, food is good (although not as good as the one in KL) and prices are reasonable (a bit more expensive than Hillcroft places).

Excellent food and great ambience. I have been to many south Indian restaurants in Houston and I think this is the only place where you can get freshly made Idly at night. We visited on memorial day weekend. The place was full. It has a capacity of 135 seating. By the time we got our table to the the time we finished our food , it took only 35 minutes. We were 8 of us. Everyone ordered something different.Their Idly ,Sambhar and Vadai are good. Their Rasam is ok. Sada and Masala dosa are good and so is paneer butter masala and naan and chole-bhature. Their bhatura is the biggest one I have seen in restaurants in Houston. Molgapoddi Dosa is mild and not spicy. Their Rawa dosa is one of the best one i have eaten in Houston. South Indian Coffee is excellent. The service was very quick and the wait staff were quick in removing finished/empty dishes. I would love to visit this place again.

Authentic South Indian vegetarian food with excellent taste. Ample parking and ideal for families. Good service

Very good. Big restaurant but almost empty today Food is good. Tried veg thali very good Also authenticate chai Good service

For anyone looking for vegetarian cuisine or a brunch option, check out Saravana bhawan. Their dosas are crispy and quantity is more than adequate. The kitchen is very clean and in a glass cube which everyone can see inside. There is not one dish that you can go wrong with. Try it all out and wash it down with some lassi or buttermilk.

We had visited this restaurant in Dubai and were interested to try the Houston branch. We visited for dinner and both ordered the thali. Very good. Service was good and prompt. Price was very reasonable. We visited at 6-00 pm and the place was fairly empty, but by 7-00 pm it began to fill up with families.

This place never dissapoints with the awesome vegetarian food. We always get Idli, Dosa, and sometimes get the mixed vegetable parotha. The vada is also great. Their phones sometimes do not work. I call the other location and ask them to text these folks!!

Saravanaa Bhavan reminds me of home. A familiar South Indian menu, good taste and fast service. They've also maintained a pretty restaurant. Of course, I prefer the nearby Udupi Cafe over this, but Saravanaa Bhavan is definitely a good option for value food.

Its the best chain in South Indian city of Chennai. And the Houston version does not disappoint. They maintain the quality and the brand name. Of course its costlier , as they always are. costs 35-40 for a family of 3 . But if you want authentic Tamil food, this is the best in Houston. Indians may be used to it, but other people, please do not expect a smiling service . Hihgly recommended for Tamil ( South Indian) best food in town.

I had a fantastic experience at Sarvana Bhavan Delhi few years back and with the same expectations drove all the way to Houston from College Station and visited this place. We had ordered Thali, Paratha, Dryfruit Dosa and none of them were good. the saviour was rasam in thali :) To my surprise the filter coffee of sarvana bhavan was also not good, it was also served cool. Sarvana Bhavan is a big brand in South India, please take some care and do not spoil its image. Thanks

The food was good. The service was okay. The most unpleasant was being asked if we were done and informed that others were waiting for our table. This was clearly not the case as we could see there was no large group at the entrance and several tables were unoccupied despite a section of the restaurant being closed. We were meeting people who had driven down from way north of Houston and had picked this as central location. We got there a little before 2, and by 3:15 were asked if we ready to leave. Our group of 8 included an infant and 6 of us had to wait by the cashier while the infants parent changed her diaper. The saddest thing was no one occupied the tables at which we were seated and multiple tables continued to remain unoccupied. When I asked the manager "Abbas" why he had rushed us he said others were waiting and when I asked where those folks were, he said that we had been sitting for three hours. I have a time stamped receipt that shows the time we left and receipt from a different place we were at. They had a number of pictures of Gods and incense and when I asked him if he know what Attithi Poojanam was he and the other man by the cashiers desk continued to justify their position. This is after we had spent a significant amount and left them a very generous tip because we realized we has spent more time than we normally did while on this family visit.

Very good idli, vada, dosa, bissi bhele baath, chatnis, filter coffee. Service is very fast. Prices quite low. Ambience is simple and basic. We go around once a week since we love south Indian food

If you have been to one of the many locations all over the world, you know what to expect. This is the original, quintessential south-Indian cuisine destination. You will not be disappointed in the variety or quality of options. There is also the constant tug of war between accessibility and authenticity - which the various locations do a good job of managing. There are other options in Houston, but this is a safe choice for a wide variety of south-Indian dishes.

Restaurant is neat and clean. Friendly staff, quick service. Loved the food which was BTW finger licking good. Serving sizes are big. Haven't seen any other restaurant in Houston serve so many chutneys with the dishes. All in all 5 rating for cleanliness, service and food quality.

I wish I could give this resturant zero star it's food is the worst I have tasted in my life. The lentil soup has no lentil and is just boiled water with tomato shreds and a mix of spices which is not goog for your stomach. The food tastes like garbage and is very spicy that no one in the world can eat it. I saw one of the chefs picking his nose which made want to vomit. The next day I had a severe stomach ache because of their horrible and nasty food. This resturant is the dirtiest I have ever seen and the food doesn't taste like Indian food I think this resturant has to be shut down ASAP. If you want a severe stomach ache come hear. This is the worst Indian food I have ever eaten. They don't even have cold water and it's all warm water which is not hydrating nor refreshing. DON'T EAT HERE

We go to this restaurant a lot. Its clean, spacious and the service quality is very good as well. Undoubtedly the best South-Indian vegetarian restaurant in Houston

If you like veggie food, this is one of the place to consider. Reasonable priced, great service and lot of varieties.

We have been here twice before and everything was good. However the last trip turned out to be terrible. Awful food including dessert, bad and slow service, and bad wait staff. I don't know what has happened to this place in few months!!

First, this is a pure vegetarian restaurant. (I have seen some reviews about food being served in aluminium plates. This is not aluminium but it is called stainless steel and it is the most environmentally reusable plate.) Lasts about 200 years, if it does not break. There is no buffet at this place for lunch. Pros : Nice and clean place. Open kitchen and you can see how food is prepared. Good for eating a light snack or an indian"tiffin". Try the dosas. They are a meal in themselves. Cons: the people who serve and the people who take the orders are different. And so the servers do not know who ordered what in a table. We were a group of 15 people and each of us was interrupted about 8-10 times by different people asking us - is this yours or who ordered this. The staff that interacts with customers is probably hired from India directly and they are not adept at interaction. The cashier is stressed out and it shows. They are in a terrible hurry to push people out. This is not for a relaxed dinner. Not sure food is really healthy, albeit tasty. (The amount of oil that is used to prepare foods to satisfy the palate is too much) You can see this from the kitchen. Bathrooms need more attention. Cleaning once a day is not sufficient during lunch it gets dirty, quickly. You CANNOT order food like - gobi manchurian or palak panneer which are considered "north Indian". It will take you about 40 minutes to get these starters on the table. that is after the and course and the dessert. Do not take a table along the glass partition adjacent to the kitchen. The glass gets hot. Is this place good - difficult question - as of me, i will not go here again, unless someone wants a pure vegetarian restaurant. (probably Madras Pavillion on Kirby is better).

The service is attentive and pretty fast in spite of big crowds. The huge choice of South Indian food is very good. But, if you order separate entrees, it does become more expensive than other restaurants...certainly more than the buffets in the area. I did take a lot of food home, so it ends up being a good deal.

One of our favorite dinner joints, when we feel like giving ourselves a south indian treat! This Saravana Bhavan definitely lives upto its name and expectations, and I should say the service here is top class, unlike other Indian restaurants which boasts of quality and customer service. These guys know what they are doing, and they do it in style. Would easily recommend this joint for anyone looking for genuine south-indian food.

I have been saravan bhavan in new jersey and it is one of my favorite when I visit NJ. When I visited this place in Houston, they didnt disappoint me. Food was usaul, saravana style..authentic south indian. we had college get together in houston and 14 of us had lunch here. We liked the food. service was prompt and quick. Nice experience!!

Last visit was a let down but recent visit was very nice with much better service and food quality. Very prompt service and sometimes you wait to order the main meal as they serve it very fast before you have finished the appetizers.

Away from Downtown, but, still worth a visit from Downtown. The interior surprised me when I stepped inside. It stands out from UK & Gulf & even the SB in New York. Avid SB lover this one is no exception. Good Food.

Visited this place twice but the result is same.It was a disappointment to self and my family both the times and we had great expectations on the brand name. We make better indian veggie food at home that this.

The best south Indian restaurant in USA.! Very tasty food. Better than anywhere in India. Fast service. Very cordial staff. Reasonable prices. Nice ambience. Neat and clean hotel. It should be made child safe taking out the steps and levels inside restaurant,

I deliver for Uber Eats and this restaurant is so wonderful - my customers LOVE their food ! The owner Mohammed always makes sure everything is perfect ! I love to see this!!! It makes the customers so happy !

visted the sarvana bhavan . excellent food good customer service from varalaxmi and harshita and ohers nice management too!

I visited Sarvana Bhavan, Houston location with my colleagues for dinner. Their south indian food is great. I ordered Masala Dosa and Idli Sambar. I love their tomato chutney. I did not like the Gobi Manchurian that we ordered as appetizer.

It used to be a good restaurant but has gone downhill drastically. Food was cold, stale & tasteless....soggy vegetables. We tried multiple dishes and same bad experience. Not coming here again.....

Standard taste but for some items on thaali which were half cooked. Taste was ok and service was ok.

Nine of us went to Savarama Bhavan for a late lunch. Most of us had dosas, a couple of us Thali and one Uthapam. Service was friendly and ok. Unfortunately some of the food was poor one of the dosas was stone cold and soggy and had to be replaced. A serving of dhai burras had stale burras and was returned. Otherwise the dosas, Uthapam and Thali's were ok. The dhai burras were not charged for.

The food quality and service has gone down. The place does not look clean and dishes provided were not clean.

Saravana Bhavan is a global chain that serves authentic South Indian vegetarian food. Had the Thali and everything was excellent. Particularly loved the Kurma and the filter coffee. Menu is extensive.

It's Best place to have south indian famous Dosa's,vada's & Chutney's, very good service and fresh food prepared in a transparent kitchen.

We had lunch in Sarvanna Bhavan on October 30 2016...This was a Deepawali day and we were looking for veg Indiian meal. The restaurant was filled with people like us celebrating Deepawali , the festival of lights and , of course , food & sweets. We ordered for butter milk, Sarvanna special meal which is South Indian Thaali and a combo which consisted of Idli , masala dosa , rava khichdi and rava kesari halwa or sheera . Khichdi , butter milk were very good . Their thaali has good variety and consistent good quality expected from Sarvanna chain of restaurants . Inspite of a very busy day , service was very quick........one of the quickest I have witnessed in recent times anywhere. . Idli was however not as soft as it should be . In summary , a very good experience of quality South Indian veg meal .

Definitely a chain of the original saravana Bhavan from Chennai. Great food, decent ambience, good value for money, friendly staff. The taste is not the same for obvious reasons of the location, cook etc however matches 80%. If craving for a Tamil thali, this is the place. Rice of the day and Sambar are must try. The filter coffee is fantastic MUST TRY.

The service was very good and unobtrusive. The dishes we tried had interesting flavours, including the vegetable dosa. I enjoyed it but it felt a bit oily. Next time I'll try the puri, it looked great.

I have gone to this place for several times and it still offers good quality food at reasonable prices. Coffee is excellent.

This is our last visit to this joint. We ere there with our fiends and service was awful -too slow.. We ordered 3 different dishes and all had excessive salt and had to be returned. We asked them if the chef has been replaced and received no answer instead were told that our tastes have changed. Management to note there are South Indian restaurants all over the city and you are not the only game in town anymore. Pay attention to what customers are telling you

Where to start......well first of all they serve you the food on weird aluminum plates. The waiters lack person hygiene and don't even understand English. The food is good......if you're constipated and are looking for a "natural" laxative. Their "soup" consisted of water, tomato skins, and the entire world's supply of cumin. I would not recommend this to anyone.
A Dose of Dosa.. and more 😊
If the crave for South Indian food hits .. better have one of these restaurants nearby ! This place was fast, clean and friendly !! Had the Paper Roast Dosa and the Channa Bhatura !! Both get a thumbs up 👍 ..and then to finish it off, the famous Saravana Bhavan coffee .. gotta have it 😊👍
