Another great meal!

By ttocsnodrog_2000 |

My buddies and I gave Saylers a try. I was a fan even before our meal, but they are now hooked as well. We enjoyed the all inclusive meals that include a salad & desert too. It is rare to find a steakhouse today that doesn't charge you for a salad!!

Old School

By Rick W |

Fun steak place without the snuttie stuff. Real old school (open 1946) family owned. They don't take reservations but at 7:00 we got right in. Parking is a little tight. Absolutely would do it again.

Outstanding..service, food, and value

By AJ S |

Celebrated a birthday. Our server, Janice? is a 16 year veteran. She helped us make our selections. We chose filet mignon and lobster. Added prawns. The onion rings are great, fresh not frozen. Relish tray is a nice touch. It was wonderful. Generous portions. Excellent price value. We enjoyed our meal. Wonderful meal.

Great Steakhouse in Portland

By joeybear1955 |

My favorite restaurant in Portland. I have to go whenever I visit. This is a steakhouse, first and foremost. Filet mignon, ribeye, t-bone, porterhouse, sirloin, new york cut. Sizes varying from 6 oz. to 40 oz. Prices from $23.95 to $46.95 and each meal comes with relish tray, salad, bread, entree, side dishes, and ice cream. Who does THAT??!! They also have prime rib, chicken fried steak, seafood, fried chicken, and burgers. The restaurant is clean and rustic. Don't expect tons of ambiance and eclectic artwork. Its simple and all about the food. Very friendly servers who are attentive and experienced. And they know their menu. They've been around since 1946 so they're obviously doing it right!

Birthday dinner

Excellent service and great food. Our server was very attentive to our table. We had 16 guests at our table and the server was so well organized the way she took our food and drink orders that never once did any of us get the wrong food or drink

First Porterhouse

By Dave49ers |

It's been at least five years since visiting this Portland landmark restaurant and I was very pleaksed with my solo visit. It was time to order my first 24oz porterhouse steak and was pleasantly surprised how great it tasted. Rare/Medium-rare is the way I like my steaks, top it with garlic butter and it almost melted in my mouth. Their meals include a nice relish tray, salad (ceaser for me), warm bread with creamy garlic butter, entree (steamed veggies) and ice cream. Had a 1/4 order of their onion rings, yummy. Took over half of the steak home and it made great sandwich for three days. The interior of this 40's american family business has been refurbished keeping up it's original theme. The waitresses are are as friendly and accommodating as I remembered since our family dinner and first time there during the Oregon centenial in 1959. Keeping up with Portland Oregon's traditions and loving it!

Best Happy Hour in Portland

By AnnieB543 |

Country Kitchen has been a favorite of our family for years! Then we tried Happy Hour and loved it! Wonderful burgers and steak bites with many more options! Great staff and food!

Great Steak!

By Pastornick |

Ambiance is a little old fashioned but clean and comfortable. The place was packed when we were there and there is a real family atmosphere. The steak was perfect and the rest of the meal ample in size. Great wait staff!

Consistently Delicious!

By kikisd2018 |

This is my husband's favorite restaurant for over 30 years! We don't live in Portland so our once a year visit never dissapoints. The steak, seafood, soup, gizzards.....yes gizzards! Where else can u get them? Worth the drive with your family!

almost too much food!

By Bob S |

I went to high school with the owner and haven't been back to his restaurant since his dad owned it then. It's still a great place for a good steak and all the trimmongs!

72oz. gone 48 years ago when I was 18 in 52 minutes

By Bob T |

Besides the 72oz. steak, carrot, celery, and pickle sticks were included along with fries or baked potato. For dessert, it was ice cream or pie. The major obstacle was: How would you like it cooked--Rare or Medium Rare. It didn't matter, it was only singed on both sides and when I cut into it, it Mood and squirted blood at me. Not cooked at all! If you decide to try, CONFIRM how they will cook it. Makes a large difference!

Been a Long Time Coming

By JERRY G |

We it has been about twenty years since my last stop at Saylers and I was not disappointed. Good steaks and you do get your money’s worth.

Awesome Steakhouse

By Michael C |

Steakhouse Exemplified. Very classic example of the American Steakhouse. Excellent beef, homemade sauces, trimmings and dessert. Great bar and wine selection. I wanted to go back for lunch today but we were still too full from last night!

Sayler's Old Country Kitchen Portland, Oregon

By William W |

The restaurant had great and enjoyable food and the service was great. The atmosphere was wonderful especially being around the fire pit and sitting at the table with a nice glass of wine. At times it did get busy and noise level did have to talk a bit loud. The food came out hot and presentation was great.

Dinner

Food is always excellent. Service wonderful. We can always count on Saylors for a wonderful dining experience.

My FAVORITE restaurant ANYWHERE

By roscinc |

Get there early and if you have no children with you just go to the bar. They have a few dining tables in there. The service is FANTASTIC. The food is MARVELOUS. You get SO MUCH. They start you with a lovely relish tray and FRESH BAKED BREAD. I highly recommend the halibut. EVERYTHING is just SO GOOD. The chicken fried steak is to die for. Good people, good food and nice place. I believe its at least third generation family business. Everything that comes with your meal (yes salads are included) the pricing is more than fair. Thanks Sayler's for keeping this tradition alive and well.

Great steaks and excellent service!!!!

By mjbcmjbc |

Come here early, they don't accept reservations. We came here at 4:30PM and around 5:30PM, people were already waiting for tables. Prime Rib is excellent and so is the Bone-In Rib Eye steak. Plenty of food and good value. Awesome service. Plenty of parking. Remember, come here early to avoid the line-ups.

Still the same after all these years!

By OneCentF |

I have been going to this restaurant with my family since I was a teen ager about 40 years ago. This was my parents favorite restaurant. We went last week to celebrate our friends 39th wedding anniversary. I was pleased to see that everything was the same. Same great service, same great food and the restaurant is updated but not modern. It still has that home feeling.

Birthday Party

This is a jewel hidden in Portland, Oregon! I strongly recommend checking it out! They have very good steaks! :D

Dinner with father in law

By Terry P |

Stopped at Saylors old country kitchen yesterday for dinner after a funeral. The place was very busy but only had to wait about 10 minutes or so. As always the food and service was excellent. Steak for father and I, deep fried prawns for the wife. Food was done just right, and the drinks were great. Good job Saylors, keep it up. I don't know what we would do with out you.

Great service, excellent food

By douglase252 |

A good, solid people's restaurant. A lot of regulars. We've gotten excellent food here. Better than at a lot of supposedly upscale steakhouses. Reasonable prices. Clean, pleasant ambiance.

Best steak ever!

By Luke19Abe27 |

While visiting family in Portland we came here, and weren't disappointed. All of us had a different steak, and each if them were delicious. The sides and trimmings were great, too. The huge steak has been quite a conversation piece, too!

An institution, with a huge following!

By SKSA |

Arrive early if you don't want to wait a long time for a table. Restaurant is huge, but fills quickly. Basic, good food, well prepared, with excellent service, Meals come with relish tray, fresh bread, soup or salad and dessert. Steaks are perfection, seafood is fresh with many choices for preparation. This restaurant is crowded for a reason! Be sure to "view" the 72 oz. steak at the front entry ( you can hold it on a tray!). If you can eat this steak, with all the "fixins"(by yourself), it's FREE. (Only on weekdays). .

Great Value and Great Food

By Paul M |

Sayler's has been around for years. It's one of the best values in the Portland area. Everything on the menu is excellent, service is great. You get a full meal, starting with soup, or salad and ending with desert at a reasonable price.

Every year a pleasure

By MICHAEL L |

We and our friends have a wonderful meal there every year on our vacation. We would not miss it. I am a fried chicken connoisseur and they have among the best ever.

we keep coming back !

By Cpjules |

We have been to Saler's several times. We don't live in Portland but visit family there and just about every time we visit someons says let's go and get a steak, well I know what that means - off to Saler's. I wouldn't even think about getting a steak at any of those franchised places in the area. It's Saler's or bust for steak. I usually get the NY 10 oz, plenty of food for a big appetite. They offer numerous sizes to satisfy all. You also get a pickle plate appetizer, soup or salad, bread and desert. You can't go wrong.

Perfectly cooked steak!

By Mariann s |

Quaint restaurant that will take you back to the 60’s. Service was excellent and the steaks delicious! Meal includes salad or soup and ice cream- choice of at least 6 flavors.

Total satisfaction from start to finish!

By Kokoneehaase |

The best steak house in town that we can ALL afford! You will not go away hungry. Fantastic steaks, best onion rings in town and all meals include three courses (salad and ice cream for desert). Have been patronizing Sayler's since the late 70's and have never left without a smile from ear to ear! Treat yourself to this Portland treasure.

Great dinner recognizing American war hero's

By Wayne G |

Food was great, service was even better. This is the 3rd year I have attended an event at this restaurant and they have done a great job.

Dinner with wife

By Terry P |

Had dinner with my wife on 2/13/2016, and as usual the food and service was outstanding. We have been dining here for over 40 years an can't say enough good things about the Saylors. Great place, excellent food, and good service. THANKS SAYLORS !

Still one of the best values in town

By jdsharkey |

This is my husband's favorite place for a steak. The prices have gone up over the years and a 8 oz Filet Mignon is $28 which seems high but when you also get a plate of fresh veggies and fresh bread with garlic butter to start, the price is worth it. You also get soup or salad and ice cream for dessert. How many places can you go to and get all that? However, I don't eat beef. But they have a Prime Rib of pork that is awesome. You get not one but two chops that are at least an inch thick. It also comes with fresh beans, a potato and Apple sauce. I have never been able to eat both. For $27 with everything you get, it is a great value.

ALOT of steak choices, but overall its just an "OK" place- wont go again

By BrandyS612 |

After reading so many good reviews we decided on this place for dinner for my husbands birthday. He wanted a good steak dinner. I can say that the food was avg at best. The meal does come with bread/salad/a small before dinner veggie tray, and ice cream afterwards. The salad, just lettuce with 1 ,yes 1 small slice of beet, that is it. We got 1 tiny bread basket with 6 slices of beard for the party of 6 of us . The steak has NO seasoning on it at all making for a very bland piece of meat, so while its cooked nicely and tender its totally bland. Service was also eh ok. They also mixed up the credit cards with another order so we got charged (then reversed) for 2 separate tickets. ( they did fix this right way) . The meal was well over $200.00 ( and not everyone had the steak meals) and I think it was just avg overall. We wont go again, we can find a better meal at Black Angus in Vancouver. Disappointing actually.

Great Steaks

By pencilmein2 |

Just got back from fabulous dinner. My wife and I had small filet mignons, baked potato and cole slaw. Professional, prompt, and helpful service from Nikki was outstanding. Finished the meal with ice cream (spumoni, maple nut, and espresso)-really really good!

Wonderful Birthday Dinner

By Dennis L |

What is not to like? Great food, attentive service and special care for the birthday girl. This 94 year old never wants to go anywhere else for her celebration.

Best fried chicken & full meal deal!

By MikaLeigh77 |

Classic American steakhouse menu, belonging to a former grand era -- complete with a relish dish served to kick off the meal (a relish dish, for those like me who weren't already familiar, includes crudité such as carrot and celery sticks, pickle spears, olives, and a rather tasty sour cream-based dip)! Enjoyed their fried chicken -- I know, I know, at a steakhouse! But seriously, FOUR juicy thighs seasoned and cooked to perfection, and classic mashed potatoes. I was not about to turn my nose up (and the husband enjoyed the 3 leftover pieces of chicken, agreeing they were delish). Friend ordered their prime rib, subbed onion rings for the side dish, and declared it tasty as well! Pro-tip: There are kid and senior options available on the menu. The parking lot is ample, but due to the overwhelming popularity of the restaurant, street parking is also available in the vicinity. Awesome people-watching in the waiting area, and the line moves fairly quickly! Friendly and efficient service was a plus, too. Most entrees are served as a full meal, including soup or salad and warm bread (served with cold butter pats, and melted garlic butter!), and a selection of ice creams and sorbets for dessert. TOTAL DEAL, with guaranteed leftovers! Will definitely be back!

Good, old fashioned, comfort food

By Timothy C |

This place is "old" Portland. Fantastic service, solid food amid an atmosphere befitting a buffet restaurant. Serious steaks here -- well prepared and tasty. Told our server that it was our first time at Sayler's; we got a complementary order of the fabulous onion rings.

Awesome food.

By Dixon9717 |

Had the best steak that I have ever had in a restaurant. 32oz Porterhouse. Wow melts in your mouth. Very good quality food. Will definitely return.

Mother's Day Take out Dinner

By Rita C |

I'm looking for the best place to praise and thank the folks working at Sayler's yesterday. A very busy Mother's Day!! The front desk people were hopping in 5 different directions!! Phones, orders coming out, Grubhub drivers. They maintained a friendly professional calm the whole process. We were able to enjoy a wonderful dinner at home with their assistance. Also excellent food, as always. Thanks to the kitchen staff.

Good Steaks

By Brian S |

Off of I205 by Mall205, I was hesitant but I’m glad I went, steaks are actually really good!! Juicy delicious and you get a lot of food for the price. I will return!

Excellent family evening

By TXRed |

The vintage ambiance was like I'd stepped back in time to a similar restaurant in Chicago during the early fifties that my family went to on rare, special occasions -- and it created for me a perfect evening for my last night visiting my family in Portland. Clean, spacious restaurant with several dining rooms that were comfortable and friendly. Many families and also many couples were dining there and yet the sound level was muted. Service was perfect and friendly. Menu had much variety. Quality and quantity and taste of food was excellent. My medium-rare steak was cooked perfectly. Dinner had several courses starting with cold, crisp relish plate. I had steak filet and salad and baked potato, which were delicious. Dinner included choice of several desserts. I highly recommend this restaurant for the quality of the food, traditional vintage ambiance, excellent service. Dinner for my family of 4 including tip was about $65 -- 3 of us had steak. Wow, what a nice place to share a delicious meal at a reasonable cost.

Once a month dinner with friends

By beachgrammie |

If you want a place to go for dinner that is always good, this is the spot. We meet in the bar for a drink and a game of video poker than out to the dining room. The staff is always very friendly and we have a great time with them. The first thing you get is a relish plate to nibble on while waiting for the mile high onion rings that you just have to order, they are the best in Portland. Home of the 72 ounce steak , which none of us has tried, we go for the 16 Tbone with salad and a baker. Oh, by the way you get a scoop of ice cream at the end of your meal. And a tooties pop as you go out the door. Great place for all ages.

Worst restaurant experience in Portland to date!

By Max Headroom |

I went here with my gf for a banquets style dinner her mom had been invited to. The entire dinner looked like it had come from a bag. Our bagged salad mix was limp and frozen, the bread was from winco, and my "fish and chips" looked and tasted like it came from the frozen food section at Walmart. My date's baked potato that came with her inedible prime rib as so over cooked it was as dry as a Mormon bar. We both agreed that we would never go there again.

All time favorite restaurant!

By Allgoods |

I have been coming to this restaurant for as long as I can remember so maybe my review is a little biased, but I absolutely love this restaurant. The amount of food you get for this price is amazing, and the choices they have are amazing. I highly recommend this restaurant to anyone in the Portland area looking for a really good priced steakhouse. You won't be disappointed!

Visiting the area. I recomend this restaurant

By Josie Conner |

Its nice cozy restuwrant..really good food. Employees are very polite and the food are not to $$.and if your craving for a good steak this is the place to go.

High hopes... dashed

By Michael H |

I went here with a group of friends, truly craving a good steak. I had such high hopes. However, they were short lived. out of the 4 steaks ordered at out table, 3 had to go back as they were not done enough or cooked as requested. the medium rare was blue rare and the well done steaks were rare.. Possible to overlook that. The ribeye that I had was remarkably tough, strange for a ribeye anywhere, but especially so for a steak house. While the salads were good, the garlic butter and bread was great, I just can't forgive the less than desirable cuts of meat from a steak house. The service was decent, but not great, and the undercooked steaks were not the waitresses fault, and it appeared that this was not the first time on this night by her reaction. so, perhaps other nights would be better? but the rubbery ribeye, though. The next night I BBQ's some steaks from Safeway and came MUCH closer to the experience that I had hoped for here at Saylers. Do yourself a favor, and just cook them yourself at home and save some time and money.

WOW oh WOW on food and service

By USjoyful |

Great friendly place for super food and service. Their steaks are Oh so great ! They have great drinks and the friendliest of service. It is a long standing place in the Portland area for years and years. Always quality and consistant

Birthday Celebration

By Robin v |

This place is GREAT!! If you are in the mood for a "Retro" experience come to Sayler's. We went to Celebrate my Kidney Sisters 50th Birthday and WOW! What an experience. From the lounge area where they're serving up dry martinis and champagne cocktails old school style, to the awesome steaks cut to your liking. This place aims to please. Sayler's is a MUST TRY!! If it's Steak you want, it's Steak you'll get. They also have lobster, prawns, scallops and MORE!!! MUCH MUCH MORE!!! Hit this place up the next time you need a healthy serving of surf N turf.

Good choice for a group dinner.

By EAZELIFF |

I was in town for a train convention and our group dinner, of about 30, was arranged to take place at Sayler's. We were provided our own room and a special banquet menu with a number of choices. I chose the halibut, which was quite good. The amount of food provided, including onion rings, was quite generous. The young ladies who were our servers were very gracious and efficient. My only complaint was that I thought the prices were a bit high. On this Saturday night the rest of the place was hopping with customers, obviously being a popular place among locals;

very good tho not as good as it was let me to believe

By peterpanjaffray |

very large restaurant. good service . the complete dinner including dessert was refreshing instead of having to order every thing seperately. steak was cooked well. tho not any better than ive had be4 from a pricey restaurant. on a scale from 1-10 i would say it a 7 or 8 . probably would not go back. not a fancy decor either just a adverage restaurant surrounding. i expected a nicer surrounds and more special food. just the 2 of us with no extra drinks just ice tea or anything extra with tip was a $100 maybe ok for some but not us .

Great

By Bob K |

I had a 16 oz ribeye which was cooked perfectly. Salad and bread and fries also great. Enjoyed the dinner, service and the ice cream

Group Travelers from Kansas

What a pleasant experience with our dining in a private dining room. Everyone enjoyed Fried Chicken, salad, bread and baked potato. The service was great and the food was enjoyed by all.

Favorite Home spot

By Eddie E |

We go to the Country Kitchen at least once a month. It is one of the best places in town for value and service. The wait staff is always friendly,no matter how busy they are. they have gone out of their way for us on special occasions. We feel that we get an excellent meal for the price. We often order one meal w/a service plate, so we can share. They have a nice selection of wine. Go, you'll be glad you did.

Does not disappoint

By OSY225 |

One of the best place to eat a well prepared steak! It is also value for money for the amount of food that comes with it! Every time I am in Oregon, this is a must go place for a steak!

Excellent

By Yonatan S |

We were looking for traditional American steakhouse We were 4 persons and all ate different steaks and all were delicious

Always Nostalgic and the BEST Steaks in town!

By Rick V |

I've been coming to Sayler's Old Country Kitchen since I was a toddler with my parents. It was always a place my parents would come to religiously growing up. Went back here for the first time since December of 2013 with mom and a close family friend and some things have changed but the best parts have remained the same. First thing's first, this place is known for it's beef! The Prime Rib is ALWAYS phenomenal here! Ever since I was a little kid it's always been great! I've recently been a fan of Halibut fish & chips and I saw that Sayler's has this as a menu item. I am always weary of trying fish at a restaurant that's not near the ocean or a place that doesn't specialize in fish items exclusively. I specifically asked to try a piece of their Halibut and also asked if it was frozen. Our really sweet and kind server Jennifer informed me that it's "flash frozen" but that I could try it before I made a decision to order it which I REALLY appreciated. Personally, I wasn't a fan of it, but again, ordering fish at a steakhouse and not being happy with it, would be my fault. Back to the entree, I got the 10oz Prime Rib with a side of fries, house salad, and the pecan praline ice cream. The meat was cooked to perfection! Presentation extraordinary, color of the medium cooked steak on point, taste and juiciness off the charts, when I say this place does steaks right, I mean it!!! Props to the cooking staff for getting this done to an art form! HOWEVER, The fries were a bit too crispy and soaked with grease. Almost as if they had been in the fryer a little too long. I'm nit-picking here but the meat was great. The ice cream was good, but as much of an oxymoron as it sounds like, it was not cold. It was a little too soft as if it was sitting out for a long time because it was in such high demand. Although I can nit-pick about the things that didn't meet my expectations, the overall experience and service are what make this place a top choice for me! Jennifer was extremely kind and accommodating to all our needs. She knew the menu inside and out and was able to be very patient with us and all our requests. Thank you all for the great experience and service! -Ricky V.

Always great food.

By 6-13-1966 |

Very slow server no water at table for at least 5 min. But it was very busy. Needed extra butter took forever potato was cold when it came prime rib was awesome. Will return just for food.

Great service with awesome food

By Justin C |

The servers and the hostesses are always very polite and friendly. This place gets busy for sure and with first come first served seating it can be a bit uneasy to set a dinner meeting up. But the staff works to quickly get you seated. The food is always good and prepared to your requests. Very down to earth place for a nice meal and good atmosphere!!

Very Disappointed !

By Marti L |

We have been going to Sayler's since 1994 and have always looked forward to the wonderful meal we would be eating. Something is wrong there wasn't any of the staff that we were used to seeing. Everyone was new the last 3 times we went there and there was hardly anybody there it has always been full and we would have to wait to be seated. We think it has been sold . Not Happy!

My Favorite Family Restaurant

By Doug H |

My first visit to the Old Country Kitchen was as a kid in the ‘50s. It was our family’s regular Sunday afternoon dinner. As a high schooler I had a crush on our best (& cutest) server, Florence. My favorite dishes were the fried shrimp and the halibut. On my recent visit they still served the relish dish and hot French bread with garlic butter. Following a garden salad topped with little shrimp and Thousand Island dressing I was served the best fish and chips with extra tartar sauce (best fish and chips I’ve ever had anywhere). A finishing serving of peppermint ice cream completed a lovely dinner. I will be returning every chance I get.

Great Steak House

By Sam Y |

I have been going to Old Country Kitchen my whole life. It remains one of the finest restaurants in the Portland Area—a true landmark that has spanned generations. The food here is excellent. I am a steak man, and everyone is fabulous. The wait staff is professional, too.

Very good steaks, ok sides, great service, very good value.

By bhcastle |

Steaks were very good, but I've had better. Sides were good, but... eh. Salad was straight out of a bag from the fridge/freezer. Service was really very good as was the value.

Not as good as I expected

By Joel G |

My wife and I came to celebrate our anniversary. We heard about this restaurant from a friend and had high hopes. My wife ordered the 24 ounce bone-in Ribeye medium rare and it came out medium well plus. She returned it and got one back that was a perfect medium rare and a better piece of meat. I ordered a 12 ounce Filet Mignon medium and it was cooked perfectly. It was tougher than I expected for a Filet, but still quite good. I love that everything is included with the meal, even ice cream for dessert. Coming from Central California, where there are some of the best steak houses I’ve ever been to (Jocko’s in Nipomo, specifically), perhaps my sights were set too high. I prefer my steaks with a touch more seasoning as well.

Entire meal included at one price

By Glenn S |

Not only is this a great steak house but you get everything for one price. That includes veggie tray, rolls, main course, and desert. Good steaks and great service.

Great, as usual.

By vpsdudley |

Fantastic Steak dinner, as usual. Our server was prompt and courteous. She kept on top of our dining needs. Great experience, as always.

Not the same Sayler's OCK

By Leiann B |

Last weekend, my mother & I had dinner here & sadly, had a not-so-good dining experience. We've been customers for 50+ years & our extended family has been frequent customers during that time. My grandfather had also been business colleagues with the Sayler's for many years. So we were extremely disappointed when our meals (filet mignon steaks + fried onion rings) came to our table lukewarm. When our server came to our table to ask how our dinner was, we told her. No apology, but the server asked if we wanted anything else. Since we were already half-way done eating, it wasn't worth getting anything else. Usually the onion rings are hot & yummy. Ours were cold & greasy. When we arrived, it was 5:30 pm on a Saturday, & what is usually a long wait was less than 3 minutes wait this time. When we left at 6:30 pm, there were no other customers waiting for a table. We wondered if other customers are not dining here if the food quality has significantly dropped. This was not representative of the high quality food & service that we had come to know with Sayler's OCK. Has there been a change in restaurant management? We'll probably look for another steakhouse next time (Ringside?).

A disappointment

By babyboomer66 |

We had heard quite a few compliments about this place so my wife and I were looking forward to our recent visit. It ended up a major disappointment insofar as the food was concerned--at least our main entrees. She had what was supposed to be filet mignon but kept encountering gristle. And as she said, "Filet mignon does NOT have gristle." I had the prime rib and I've never had a more tasteless prime rib in my life. The au jus, salt, pepper, nothing added flavor to it. At least the baked potatoes and ice cream were good. But we went there expected to enjoy beef.

BEST Steak i ever had

By njnomo |

This place is fantastic, whenever in the area i Always make the stop,, 1 time drove over 100 miles out of way for the 32oz porterhouse..Always cooked perfectly..Love this place...

Um new favorite steak spot

By Tiffany R |

Um new favorite steak spot ever. Forget about all the others I’m in love. Not only am I in love with the steak, the staff is sooo friendly. Wow what a difference from Los Angeles, we’re the servers seem to be forced to be nice to you for a good tip. Here take my money lol Awesome experience l, I literally can’t wait to go back. The steak was delicious, perfectly cooked. The lobster was. 10! Pickles yes please. 72 oz steak. Doooo ittt The beverage cups are a little small but who cares Did I mention the prices? Umm seriously ❤️❤️❤️ Old diner feel, that’s expanded. They have a full bar with happy hour. I noticed when we walked back to the car, that’s awesome. Food, service and prices all excellent

Food OVERLOAD!!!

By Rick M |

Went here with a friend to celebrate my birthday. Was my first time there and was blown away by all the food they serve you. Starts with their relish tray, which was very good. Mentioned it was our first time there and they brought out onion rings and sautéed mushrooms (mushrooms, with their housemade mushroom sauce, were the best I've ever had). Warm bread, a wonderful southwest chicken and rice soup was next, and very good. Next came the entrée, a 16 oz, top sirloin steak with a crispy skinned baked potato, just fantastic. In the end, couldn't finish it and took the rest home. Finished off with ice cream to complete an absolutely wonderful meal. Will definitely be back next time I'm in Portland.

NY Strip

By Bob K |

I try to get to Sayler’s at least once during the week if my annual visit to Portland. The service is always good. I had a 12oz NY Strip with fries. It was cooked perfect and so very tasty. Comes with a salad and veggie sampler as well as ice cream for dessert. $32 with water to drink. Well worth it I think. Maybe a little spendy but the food is worth it.

Great server Payton and wonderful meal!

By Dennis M |

Lots of great meals with sides included. Our server, Payton was charming, and efficient. He added a lot to our evening. We hadn’t been there for some time before, but will return sooner.

Perfect Lounge

Ate in their lounge last night and had an absolutely wonderful meal with my wife for our anniversary. We don't eat big meals anymore and often share an entree. At Sayler's, they are fine with that. No extra charge unless you want the salad, potato, etc. for two. We were able to just share the whole meal. We had the 10oz. prime rib and it was to die for. The meal is $28 which is a bit pricey but an excellent deal for two. Everything, food, service, and the very nice lounge with fireplace, were all perfect.

Steak!!!

This place was just what I was looking for!!! I was craving a good ribeye, and wasn't disappointed. The French bread with garlic olive oil was amazing! I also loved the onion rings. I usually don't have dessert, but the chocolate ice cream was a perfect finish. Very busy place, but I received great personal service. Easy to get to, and plenty of easy parking.

First Visit

By X4545RIkevinm |

It was like stepping back in time when service was king. I felt absolutely spoiled by the attention our table was given and I noticed EVERYONE is treated this way. Excellent food the filet was cooked to perfection. Only thing I can say is I will be back whenever I visit.

SOOOOO Disappointed!

By Bill H |

Being going for more than 40 yrs. and the first bad meal ever. Our first time back since the virus. Maybe it’s the staffing, maybe they can’t get the same quality meats, I don’t know. Started with the veggie tray and old stringy celery. The onion rings were great, then came the meal. My wife ordered steak, mashed potatos and gravy. Steak was ok but potatos and gravy had zero flavor. My steak was cooked on rhe same part of the grill as some fish that had been fried so my steak had a fish flavor. Certainly not what I was expecting. The rest of the family was also unmpressed. I think we will wait several months before we try it again.

Old school. Very good.

By MississippiMatt |

I was in town for work and looking for a good steak. This was the first place that popped up. I did a little reading and knew I had to go. Lot's of history to the place and the tips were correct. I went on a Wed at 4:45 Portland time. 6:45 for me but the parking lot was already full. It's a large restaurant inside. Every meal comes with a great little relish plate, bread, salad, & ice cream for desert. I had a filet and some beautiful prawns. Everything was cooked to perfection and my server was spot on. I very much enjoyed my meal here and would jump at the chance to come back.

Excellent

This restaurant is always excellent. Steaks are cooked correctly as ordered. Service is very good. Compared to other steak restaurant s it is very reasonable.

We stopped by for dinner, and this place is awesome. We had a variety of foods and all were tasty. I will go back again. Don

Parents 67th Anniversary Dinner

By Bruce B |

We have always like this restaurant for its ability to continuously serve the best steaks in town. Unlike other restaurants that keep changing menus in order to bring in customers, Sayler's knows what works and stays true to it roots. It's been loyal to it's customers and they are Loyal to it (Try to get a seat at 6PM without a wait and you'll understand).

enough food for three people

By Bob W |

Their specialty is steaks and prime rib and the quality of their meats is outstanding.. I had the 12oz prime rib, and it was perfect. However 2 of the steaks ordered medium-rare were overcooked and had to be sent back. The the onion rings are to die for. Wonderful ice cream tops each meal. Caution: It is very popular and wait times can be long.

fantastic steak

Best dinner in Portland

Been going there for 50 plus years. I enjoy the same thing every time. And I love the blue cheese dressing and I don't even like blue cheese. Need I say more?

Best food in town

If you're looking for a great steak and seafood you found the restaurant just service is beyond reproach and you get everything included in one meal relish tray Bread potato ice cream and of course your entree

Over rated

By John V |

Extremely large restaurant. Expect to wait as no reservations are accepted. The meals come complete with bread, salad, relish tray and vegetables and dessert. Considering they a "famous" for steak, you would expect the steak to be cooked perfectly and as you requested. In our case four of four failed the test, three steaks and a prime rib. Our server was very busy but maintained a wonderful attitude. Considering the price, I will pass this restaurant up in the future

Great family restaurant with great food

By Gary W |

We most recently visited Sayler's for our 51st wedding anniversary, and because we were overnighting at a hotel at Portland International Airport getting there was quick and easy. In this case, as is frequently the case, the place was humming and very busy and we had to wait. I'm not a patient man, but this is where we wanted to eat as they offer a standard dinner with all the trimmings that is reliably consistent. Our wait was about 30 minutes, no inside seating available so we perched on the edge of a flower planter outside the main door. I don't find this sort of experience at all satisfactory, but again, what was our option. After being seated the service was fast, efficient, and friendly as it always is. Food came out exactly as ordered and it was as usual very good. Sayler's has been doing steaks since long before we were married and there are no surprises, you know what you're going to get and they do not disappoint. I would not say this is the finest steakhouse in Portland, but for the price you get a great meal from relish tray to ice cream for dessert without breaking the bank. There is free off-street parking, but during busy times good luck with finding a spot -- best to carpool if you are going with a group. It is all on one level (no stairs) and there are handicap parking spots (too few, but they are clustered around the side entrance so not far to walk). Just wish they would accept reservations. We'll most definitely be back.

What a GREAT hunk of steak!!!!

By KayandBrad M |

My husband and I love this place for date night !!! Wonderful food, service and everyone knows about it!!! The onion rings are amazing. And we usually just order the smallest order and it is huge!!! Be prepared to wait in line unless you get here early. It is not a place to rush! Just enjoy the food!!! He is a Portland icon! We usually order a large sirloin dinner and split it!! There is plenty of food for 2 people!!! Just GO!

Poor quality

By Judy V |

Been a long time since having dinner here. Steaks were always tender and flavorful. The quality of the steaks are not like they used to be. Our steak and prime rib were tough with no flavor. So sorry to see a long standing restaurant decline in quality. Nice to see they kept the courses as in the past.

During this difficult time we have had to order our food and pick it up for take old. Yes, it’s not the same as sitting in the restaurant and enjoying their excellent service. The food still is fabulous and gives us such good comfort. This is our favorite place and has been for 30 plus years. Can’t wait for in door dining and pray our favorite place will still be there. ❤️🎉🎉❤️🤗❤️ Larry and Sheryl Wecker

I can’t believe he ate the whole thing

By RSNN |

Saylers Old Country Kitchen is located on Stark Street and has been around for a very long time. The Sayler family has been running this place since the late 1940's. And in this time the place has became a historic steakhouse which makes it totally amazing to me that I have never been in it at all until last week when I wondered what they were like. I encountered a completely jammed packed parking lot on a Sunday evening. Well, as it turns out– Sunday is the day that they are open the longest. From Noon till 10 PM. And it seems to be a very popular place to go to dine or to drink. I thought I would just go into the Lounge and play a little video poker and have a pint or two. The Lounge is HUGE. It is almost the size of a restaurant. The decor is very comfortable. You just feel so wonderful spending time in a place that has pulled out all the stops to make you feel like you are being treated like a King. The bar had these amazingly cozy soft chairs that feel like padded easy chairs. There is a swordfish mounted on one wall. And a fire place too. I had a pint and played a little video poker. Then sat at the bar and looked through the menu. That is when I read about their 72 Oz Steak challenge. If you can eat it all in a set period of time it is free. Then I recalled someone had mentioned a place that had a deal like this. So this is the place! I asked the girl behind the bar what it costs if you can’t finish it. $70 she said. A few days later I asked an old High School friend of mine if someone we knew had ever tried this 72 oz steak challenge. I mentioned the name of a another friend of his that always seemed to have a huge apatite. My friend said, “no it wasn’t him. It was an other guy I knew. He actually did it. Ate it all. And got it for– FREE. And do you know what he did when he got home?” I didn’t want to say what I thought. So I paused and said, “I don’t know. What did he do?” My friend laughed... “He made himself a sandwich.” I couldn’t believe that he ate the whole 72 oz steak. And was still hungry after that. I took a good look at the Happy Hour food deals. Man, oh, Man. I can’t believe the nice deals that you can find here. Now I know why the parking lot was so jammed the first time I visited this place. Sayers Old Country Kitchen is just too darn good to be true! The hallway before you get to the Lounge has some lovely framed artwork on the walls. Drawings of some things from Portland’s past. You will also find an old menu from several decades ago. Take a good look at what prices were like way back then. Amazingly low. Happy Hour: 3-6 PM and 9 PM till closing every day. The happy hour food bargains include a Deluxe Cheese Burger & fries for only $5.95, Pepper Steak for Only $4.95, and Onion Rings for only $2.95 to name just a few on the food list. Oh, and draft beer is only $3. The service is Excellent. The servers are very friendly. All in all it is an excellent dining or drinking experience. I plan on making a habit of frequenting this place.

Sail Over To Sayler’s!

By Radioriffraff |

We stayed in a hotel one night to catch a flight out the next day. Hubs was hungry! Me too. Picked Sayler’s because it was the only local spot I could find for delivery. Great pick!!! He had a cheeseburger and gave it rare high praise. We tried the onion rings. Amazing!! Also we ordered beef bites and they were cooked to perfection. Hardy portions, great flavor! Great pick!

Not what it used to be

By Jeff C |

We live in St Helens so we don't get over to this area much but last Sunday we were in Clackamas about dinner time so I suggested this place for a nice steak dinner. This used to be one of our favorites and we have eaten here more than 40 times when it still had a location in Beaverton. Not much has changed, the menu is still the same and for the most part things were as expected. We were there just as they were opening about 4:30. They still do the relish tray, and all of the extras. We had some onions rings which were excellent, I had the soup, beef barley which was nothing special and my wife had a salad which she said was good. We each ordered the 6 oz filet and baked potato for our main course and here is where the story goes south. We ordered the steaks medium well which by the description on the menu meant that they would be light pink in the middle. They were both way over cooked, dark brown and tough, not a good piece of meat to begin with. In a filet there usually is not much fat or gristle but this was not the case in both of ours, very sad. The baked potato was ok but not very hot, did not melt the butter. The young lady who was our server was friendly and polite but when she asked "how is everything" I told her the steaks were over cooked and not very good and her response was "oh I'm sorry" and a shrug and then she left. She had another chance when she left the bill and saw that each of us had left more than half our 6oz steak on the plate but still nothing more from here. We took the meat home and gave it to the dogs, they didn't seem to mind how it was cooked. This is still a good value for the money with all of the sides included in the price but if you are a steak house the least you can do is learn to cook it right and to select good cuts of meat and they did not succeed in this critical function. Oh well, we won't be going back.

10 plus!

By Garron S |

This has always been my favorite steak restaurant since the early nineteen seventies until now. The service is Is bar none the best in town. The price. For a steak dinner can't be beat. You get the full Meal deal for under forty dollars. You can't even get a steak All a cart and any other ruth chris type Steak. Houses. Always my fan favorite is the onion rings. The way they batter them is so crispy and delicious, I always love the veggie trade that comes with it.

Perfection Every Time

By WizardofAz60 |

Every time we go to Sayler's we get the same great service and the same great meal. The filet mignon melts in your mouth and is cooked to perfection. Even though the restaurant gets very busy every night of the week, the service is superb. You can't go wrong at Sayler's when you want a good steak dinner.

Denny’s of Steakhouses

By Haileymarit |

I’m lost on how to rate this. If you’re visiting Portland, just don’t go here, there are SO many other restaurants that you can go to and actually get a Portland feel and great food. This place reminded me of a glorified Denny’s or Olive Garden... the reviews are great but i don’t really get why. It’s not that reasonable of a price for a steak, you get nothing great with it on the side, limited appetizers, and not the greatest cocktails. Besides our server was pretty rude. And if you have a gluten / dairy allergy this is DEFINITELY not the place! Also a pretty strange area, surrounded by fast food. If you enjoy great quality food, this is not your place. Trust me.

Great Steaks

Best Happy Hour on Portland’s Eastside!

By sexybaby7399 |

This is a grand old steakhouse that features a 72 ounce steak with all the trimmings that you get for free if you can eat it in thirty minutes! They also have some of the best fried onion rings, chicken livers, giblets and hearts in town and are very reasonably priced for those particular items! A full order of some of the best fried chicken livers you will ever have is $5.95 and orders of fried onion rings start at $3.95 on happy hour, which also features a relish tray, jalapeño poppers, pepper steak bites and hamburgers and is 3-6 Monday to Friday and late night also. Well drinks and beer are $4 on happy hour and wine starts at $5. Great food and it won’t break the bank! They also have great steaks and fried chicken, including an all breast option, but at noticeably higher prices such as $39 for a ribeye steak

Hit the spot

By Bob K |

Was craving a steak and TripAdvisor sent me to Sayler's. I had the 12 oz ribeye and it hit the spot. Salad and bread were good and the fries were right up my alley. Steak cooked perfect. Ice cream included in the price! Did not disappoint. Friendly service to boot.

Best steak Ever!

By ontheroadagain060 |

I am a beefeater and this old landmark of a Restaurant had the best selection of steaks I have seen at any steakhouse in years. But more than that the 24 oz. Bone in Rib Eye that I had was cooked perfectly and the flavor was amazing.

A real treat except for wait time

The food and service is beyond reproach. That s is a popular restaurant so expect some wait time before being seated

The Jackpot

You cannot get better food. There were nine of us this year and everyone had a great meal. I love the meats and the relish trays and the service.

Best steakhouse bar none in the entire Portland area! The value can't be beat.

By Ga S |

So I have dined at Sailor's Country Kitchen for over 40 years. I have yet to have a bad experience food or service wise. Their steaks are cut to order you can order any size that you want. I always order mine a little on the large size so I have a second meal when I get home the next day. They're onion rings I love the batter the best I've ever had besides Australian outback. And all the sides are included not a la carte if you want baked potato or whatever it's all included. That includes Super Salad a veggie platter and they make their own salad dressings there that are absolutely the best and most amazing salad dressings.

Steak House

By mushbigdog |

This is a great old Portland traditional steak house. They have a wonderful steak selection including a 64 oz giant that if you completely consume is free. Meals come with all the trimming including a relish bar. Their onion rings are the best I've ever had and a half order is more than most people could eat. Other things on the menu including chicken and fish, but you really should have a steak if you go here.

Birthday Dinner

By Doug H |

My favorite place in the whole world for Halibut Fish and Chips. I enjoy starting off with the relish dish and the hot French bread with garlic butter. I miss the tomato juice they served back in the day. An order of onion rings brightens the evening considerably. The garden salad topped with little shrimp and Thousand Island dressing is another favorite. Maybe it’s the pickled beet that does the trick. Halibut Fish and Chips is the main event of course. Deep fried, especially lightly breaded, Halibut and fries fill the plate with beauty. There is something about that special breading that makes such a difference. Peppermint ice cream always completes a lovely dinner here for me. I’d come to Old Country Kitchen for Halibut Fish and Chips every night if I could afford it.

Old school steakhouse

By eatintheclaw |

Tried the place for the first time. The service was amazing and the steaks cooked perfect but they were a bit tough. Wife had the fillet and i had the bone in rib eye.

Dining like it was in the 50s & 60s

By ttocsnodrog_2000 |

I love Saylers for bringing me a great dining experience that brings me back to days gone by. They really know how to serve up the food. I especially like the fact that you get a salad, coffee & tea, and desert included in the price of your meal! You rarely find that at a steakhouse in today's world......

Take your appetite

By Sally P |

While the atmosphere is old school in this NE Portland restaurant, the food doesn't disappoint. Take your appetite, pace yourself & you will leave satisfied. It's easy to see why it has become a Portland institution. The prime rib was cooked to perfection, the senior portion (7 oz.) was more than ample, & the Alpenrose ice cream that is included with the meal is a perfect finish. A word to the wise: DON'T order the 1/2 order of onion rings unless you are at least a party of four. It's enormous! I can't even envision the full order. You are also given the option of a 1/4 order. Prices are not out of line.

Awesome!

By lloyds0427 |

We have had the pleasure of eating here 4 times before we left Portland. The food here is amazing, plain and simple. Go here for the great food. The steaks are completely awesome, and come to your table sizzling. You don't need appetizers, and it comes with dessert. They feed you some great food that all comes with your meal. Relish tray, hot bread with melted garlic butter, soup or salad, and that is all before your steak and potato. Then afterward they serve ice cream or sherbet, your choice. It's just that good, trust me!

Sad Really

By Randy J |

Visited this old property nearly a year ago. It looked the same as it had for decades. Until I found the meal abysmal. How can you ruin a rib-eye as they did? The sides cold and lifeless. The service was good. I did not ask for the whole thing to start over however. Should never have to do that. I had eaten at this location probably twenty-five times over as many years. I never will again. The place has gone to the depths of unacceptability.

Rib Eye Steak Fantastic

By mlukewow |

I just absolutely love an old school steak and this place makes that happen! Birthday dinner tonight for me and yep I’m now classified as a middle aged man…… that’s OK by me but does that mean that I’m eating dinner at 5:30 and in bed by 8 well tonight it did and I was not alone. We (my wife and I) arrived at Sayler’s Old Country Kitchen at 5:15 and were seated within 10 Minutes that I like! The fun part or some would say the worst part was that the lobby had about 15 people in front of us all ranging from 65 to Oh probably 80. Yes I am eating with the older crew here but hey not a long wait for a table LOL Alright so let’s get to the food and service: Service: Mary our waitress was fantastic. She arrives with a smile asking for our drink order, we stick with water and she is just fine with that not a problem and didn’t try and upsell us. We had already decided what we wanted for dinner and she takes our order right away. Relish tray arrives and its carrots celery baby corns and pickles with olives love it. Order salads and dinner and all arrive in a timely manner and always with a smile. Mary checks in with us a few times during our meal and is very respectful of her timing. She deserves 5 stars just for that. Food: This is what I'm here for the steak…….. I really don’t mind paying for a good piece of meat but I just can’t spend $65.00 on a cut and then add all the goodies after the fact…… here you order….. I order the Bone in Rib Eye $37.95 with a bake potato salad and a small bowl of ice cream…….. Now that’s a bargain and it was fantabulous……. Other steak houses that I checked out and have actually been to the Rib Eye starts at 55.00 and then go up and that friend is ala carte….. End of the day Im eating with the older folks and was done by 6:15 and on the way home, but age has its privilege. When you eat this early its still not dark when you arrive home you feel good and full then have time to let your dinner settle before you go to bed LOLOL.

don't understand

By Ric |

I don't know why that place is so busy. The steaks are mediocre, prime rib was flavorless(no salty edges). The fish is terrible. Prime rib and fish ? I guess it is a steakhouse, should have known better. Thought we would try it again since East Ringside closed. Mistake !

Great Steak & Lobster!

By Evolution26 |

This restaurant has been around for over 5 decades, so I was told. Apparently, they have a very loyal following. The parking lot is Always packed. We were here with a very large group (16) to celebrate a friend's birthday. They handled seating & service very professionally. The filet (baseball cut) and tail came highly recommended. It didn't disappoint, but I had to send the 1st one back, as it was overcooked. Apparently, the chef had a misunderstanding on what 'rare' is. I definitely will come back here for another steak.

Amazing steaks

By MichelleGardiner |

Although the appetizers were not very good the bone in rib eye was melt in your mouth amazing. Definitely worth your trip

Great Food Great Management, Great Service

The best Fried Onion Rings North of Savanah GA. Great chicken fried steaks, baked potatoes are the best in town.

Biggest steak I have ever seen!

By CourageMudzongo |

No kidding, that has to be the biggest steak in the world! We were celebrating and chose to go to this place. It was highly recommended by a foodie. Our steak was a medium rare and yet we wanted a medium. Our wonderful host helped to correct that and we had a triple A steak experience. Great food and lovely hosts. Definately going back.

Mother's Day

By Junior |

Been a while since we have been here. Nothing has changed. Great food and service. We were leaving as the dinner rush started. Porterhouse steak cooked to perfection. Wife had halibut which she enjoyed. Our dog enjoyed the bone, of what else is new. This is a four course meal place. Ok 72oz steak and all the trimmings eaten within an hour and the meal is free. Bren that way for ever. There is even s double meet portion of chicken fried steak. This is a hearty meat lovers paradise.

Steakhouse-Portland

By S_Nakaji |

If you like a good old-style steakhouse, this is the place to go to in Portland. A great piece of meat with an all inclusive dinner-soup or salad, meat, baked potato or vegetable, and sherbert or ice cream for dessert.

Worth the stop if you are nearby and very filling.

By Ron F |

Service was fantastic and friendly. The price is pretty in line with what you would expect with the quality in meat exceptional! If I had one dig it would be the absence of seasoning, however you can add your own from the table of salt and pepper or their seasoning salt. Rice pilaf is light and moist with bread that is super.

Consistently wonderful!

By Orphie27 |

This restaurant has it down pat. You get great service and good food every time. It reminds me of when I was a child going out to eat with my parents in the 60's. They bring out a relish tray with a marvelous sour cream dip. Dinners include soup or salad, bread and dessert. The steak was juicy, tender and cooked just right as was my wife's seafood. Weekends are very busy and you may have a long wait, but this visit was a weekday and they sat us immediately. There is often a coupon (we had one), which gave us drinks, dinner and dessert, including tip for around $50.

Everything was great! You hardly see a relish tray at a restaurant, but they bring one. The steak was cooked perfectly, the onion rings were sooo good, and the service was EXCELLENT!! Our server was Paige.

A Classic Worth Coming Back To

By Dwelb |

My wife and I, almost by accident, stopped in to the Old Country Kitchen for dinner yesterday and had a wonderful meal. Their "old school" approach to the classic steakhouse holds up very well for this 70 year-old establishment. A full filet mignon steak dinner with all the trimmings (bread, relish plate, salad, stuffed baked potatoe) for $25 is pretty hard to beat. Service was great and atmosphere was very pleasant.

Great food for the price

By donnajmox |

My husband and I were both hungry for a GOOD steak. We were not disappointed. The meal came with a veggie plate to start, hot bread, nice salad, baked potatoes and a 20 oz porterhouse, ice team for dessert for $31. What a deal. Excellent food for the price. Meat very tender and cooked just right. Great attentive service.

Quirky, a bit old school, but very good!

By andyman1970 |

Went here on a recommendation from the hotel front desk. Glad I did - food was very good, and service is top notch. Really appreciate that we did not feel rushed at all during the meal - pleasant change based on current trend for many restaurants. Try the maple nut ice cream. Kudos to Paige for great service!

Great Steak

By hmariecj |

The dinners here are VERY filling. We went here to celebrate a birthday and it was my first time. They come with a relish dish (pickles, olives, carrots, celery, and baby corn). A small salad, bread (with garlic butter!), and a scoop of ice cream after your entree I chose the New York Style 10 oz, it came with a choice of baked potato, fries, or mashed potatoes. The steak was cooked PERFECT! The service is great and personable, the atmosphere is definitely a family restaurant setting

Great steak

Not Harris or Barkley Prime, but close and nowhere near the price. A lot of food on the table and all good. Great service too.

By Bob V |

I am a big meat eater, saylors meat was very tuff and not favored correctly, this place is way over rated. And I will not return.

Not bad

By nvh2305 |

By no means was this a bad steak, but it certainly isn’t the best we’ve had in the states. However you will certainly not go hungry as the portions are massive and prices are very very reasonable. Staff were lovely

Love this place!

By Dolphindi |

My parents first went to Sayler's almost 66 years ago for their Rehearsal Dinner for their wedding. Their best friends from high school and my parents celebrate their birthdays here. The 4 of them are now 86! My brother and I come here every year for our birthdays with my parents. The prime rib is fantastic! I would highly recommend this place for a great dinner.

Just Wow!!

By Barbara R |

I have been here on several occasions in the past when visiting Portland. It is our favorite steak house in Portland. Nothing fancy, no reservations, but the best price on excellent steaks that come with excellent service. The prices are reasonable for the good quality of meat. You get a relish tray - certainly not something seen very often. And dessert is included. They are always crowded, which I believe is a testimony to the quality of good, great service & reasonable pricing. Be prepared to sit a few. It’s worth every minute of your wait:). Enjoy!

Just not good enough

By PNWMR |

I tried this place 10 years ago wife my wife and it disappointed us then with poor service and steaks that they just couldn’t get right. I figured a decade was long enough and tried it again because we heard so many people that love it. I couldn’t bring myself to try a steak again so I got the seafood combo. It sucked, except the prawns. I know what you’re thinking. Of course they didn’t have good seafood. The bright side is the service was great and the relish tray is a nice start to the meal. My wife loved her meal, which is unfortunate as I won’t be wasting my money here again as I’m 0 for 2 for liking my meals. For her it was a 4, for me a 2. So I averaged and put a 3 star.

Anniversary Dinner

By Robert R |

Classic style steakhouse. Our party had New York Strip, Filet Mignonette, and Chicken Soup. The soup had a very nice flavor, and a taste was offered around the table Personally was surprised you the choice of noodle being elbow pasta, but the flavor was good. Both steaks were ordered medium well and were cooked to that perfection. The cuts were a nice size and true to menu descriptions. This restaurant has been around since the a really long time and reflected a classic steakhouse look. This wasn’t an upscale experience but we felt it had s good price/value balance.

Birthday at SAylers

A woman that my wife worked with years ago and has kept in touch with all this time invited us to her 80 something birthday party last nite Saylers in a local institution and is very popular (especially with the retired crowd) - Their meals consist of a fresh vegetable plate, bread , salad, your entree w/ baked potato and ice cream for dessert. It is a really complete meal for the price. We only had one server taking drink and dinner orders -- another server would have been nice to speed up the ordering process

Great food, outstanding service

Filet and halibut steak were both awesome. Onion rings, veggies, sauce, and bread were all so good. Our server Brandy could not have been better. The gold standard of dining experiences here!

Great value

By Kevin L |

This is an old school steakhouse. Reminds me if old places in Vegas. No flash. Just good value. My wife and i stopped in. She had an appy. I ordered a cheeseburger and fries. We had a drink each. It came to $20. That is really good value for the money. We found the burger was good quality but was greasy and didnt have a lot of taste. But for $6 it was awesome. My recommendation is to come here during happy hour and give it a try. If you like it them come back and try the full menu. The place was very busy at 5 in the afternoon. The crowd was older. But hey. Maybe they know a good value when they see it.

Relaxing dinner after cubing.

By Michelle A |

Husband, son, and I saw how popular this place was and decided to try it. Son had 16 ounce sirloin and mashed potatoes. Husband had 24 ounce sirloin and mashed potatoes. I had an 8 ounce filet. All cooked medium rare. Our meals came with bread, relish tray, soup or salad, and a scoop of ice cream. The restaurant was clean. The service was fabulous. Food tasted good but not awesome. Portions and choices were good. It seems as though service and quality would be consistent. The check came to $88.00 before tip. Although a little spendy, we would consider this restaurant again.

Full course dinner!

First visit to Portland to see old friend and her family. They decided on Sayler’s for dinner. What a treat! First was the relish tray with dips accompanied by bread basket. Two of the party had the clam chowder and were quite pleased. The salads were nicely done. I had the prime rib and it was cooked perfectly, the portion left enough to take home. My friend had the porterhouse which she thoroughly enjoyed. Others had filet and ribeye. All cooked to order and done well . Plus ice cream for dessert! Great place.

Old Fashioned American Meal

By Milestogo007 |

Saylers has been in business for 70 years and they do a great job of serving the traditional steak dinner. My steak was excellent, the sides were good, I like the relish tray you get at the start and they throw in the dessert as well. It is good food at a good price. I highly recommend it to those who like the old fashioned American meals with all the trimmings.

Best steak in town

We had dinner on a weekday. You get delicious food and rich menus for a air price. The staff is friendly, and you feel as an appreciated customer.

Ashleigh was the best bartender/waitress! 👌

We went today for our Anniversary. Our bartender/waitress was the best! The food was good, the service was good! TY Saylors! See you next year:)

Great steak house

By Paul Y |

Our server Crystal was very helpful and attentive. Ordered 1/4 onion rings and 4 of us ate them. The split pea soup was tasty. Ordered the chicken fried steak and it was good but next time will order a steak.

Best chicken in town!

This has always been my birthday restaurant. I used to go with my husband and we would try to see who could eat the most. He was 6'5" but it was a close race. They serve fabulous appetizers, massive portions of everything. The variety of clientele is amazing and there is always a waiting line so go early, if you’re able.

Steak 🥩

Dinner here & I thought the bread & dips that were free was better than the steak dinner.. not a cheap place to eat... French fries were soggy...was ok but not hurrying back..

My "benchmark" of Steak houses

By Lyle V |

I have been going to Sayler's Old Country Kitchen for over 40 years and have never been disappointed. My last visit was June 18. We arrived at 4:20 PM and put our name on the waiting list. (The restaurant opens at 4). There was already a 20 minute wait so we went into the bar for a cocktail to pass the time. We were seated before the 20 minutes time. Our waitress was friendly and attentive. We immediately were served bread and the relish tray and were asked for our beverage preference. (I know of no other restaurants that do the relish tray). We ordered a 1/4 tray of onion rings as an appetizer (as if the relish tray wasn't enough). The onion rings were fresh, sweet, hot and delicious. We ordered our dinners and were asked if we wanted soup or salad. I chose the salad with Blue cheese dressing. I ordered the 8 oz. filet mignon steak (medium rare) and it arrived on a very hot (sizzling) platter. Be careful not to burn yourself on the platter's insert. The waitress did warn us that the insert was hot. My steak was done exactly as I ordered and was tender, flavorful, and delicious. You also have your choice of baked potato, rice pilaf, or fires with your steak. This is one of the few places that include all of the accessories with the price of the steak. When the meal is finished, you will be offered ice cream for desert. (also no extra charge). I have been to many steak houses in my travels, and very few match or beat Sayler's.

The Prime Rib Was A Little Tough

By Billyboy2391 |

Came here on a Thursday night and the place was pretty full. Only a 15 minute wait. This place was recommended by an associate and the prime rib in particular. Unfortunately, the prime rib (16 ounces) was a bit tough (medium cooked) to cut and chew. Taste was okay. The salad and plate were very chilly as if they were just removed from the fridge. The price ($40.00) was reasonable for this size of meat. I would certainly not return. Nothing out-of-this-world. Service was okay. Server has quite the sense of humor but forgot his name.

Always great!!

Need i say more? Saylers is THE BEST value in the portland area for a great meal .....4 course meal for less than the price of just the protein at "high end" steak houses ...excellent service and ice cream to top it all off !!! If you give Saylers Old Country Kitchen any less then a 4 star review ..youre a dimwitt....

Go back in time

By 882shellym |

Reminds me of the steak houses from years ago, the food was better than great, the service was suburb. Don't go if you are in a hurry, sit back, enjoy something from the bar even if it's a Shirley Temple. Savor the relish tray, the wonderful warm bread with the melted garlic butter. Sink your fork in the most tender steak.

Our New Favorite

By Linda V |

We recently moved to the Portland area and wanted to go out for a good steak. I had a couple of places in mind, but decided to check some reviews and discovered Saylers. What a pleasant surprise. It was filled with customers and most of them had been going there for years and shared their favorite recommendations with us while we waited for our table. It was one of the best steaks we've had -- my husband and I both had the filet mignon - both prepared differently and both perfect! Everything was great -- a relish plate to start with, fresh bread, salad, side dishes and the meals come with ice cream at the end. Service was excellent -- Crystal was our server and she was great; she took great care of us and was very efficient and friendly. They don't take reservations so there was a wait, but the wait went fairly fast considering it was a very busy night, and it was worth the wait. It's not downtown which was nice - it's on the east side of town. We've been to many nice restaurants downtown, and the steak we had here was much better than we've had downtown and much more reasonably priced. We will be back!

Great Steak. Great Service

By sophiestlc |

We got there around 4 PM on a Saturday and only had about a five minute wait. By the time we left there were probably 80 to 100 people in line to eat. Our waitress was April. She was very prompt and helpful with the menu. I ordered the 6 ounce filet mignon on and it was very tender. A friend ordered the hamburger and it was Huge!! We ordered onion rings for five of us to share before hand we ordered a half order and it was more than enough. At the end of the meal we all got a small dish of ice cream. We will definitely be back.

You CANNOT beat a steak here, period.

By RGS011 |

I first came here as a boy in the 1950's. I ate their fried chicken until 1960, then everything changed. I had a tenderloin. For next 59 years I have eaten tenderloins. Usually a 12 ounce medium rare with Cole slaw and a baked potatoe. You owe it to your self to eat here.

Good ole days style dining

By SeattleWill13 |

Old school comfort food! After a long trek, we checked in and did a search for comfort food. This is a beacon of big meals, good service and great extras included. The friendly staff served up the big steak and seafood combo I ordered along with salads, garlic bread and then desert. Loved the steak. You just may want to lay down on the comfort booth for a while after.

A wonderful anniversary dinner

By stephenf197 |

We were part of small party to celebrate the 50th wedding anniversary of my wife's brother and his wife. The restaurant does not take reservations but our party of 8 got seated pretty quickly. We were well attended by our waitress. Our dinners were prepared to order and hot. The dinners were delicious. This is a great place for a small dinner and a great celebration. The quality of the steaks and fish was top notch. The portion sizes are large. This is a great choice.

Steak dinner - Best bang for the buck anywhere.

By David G |

Best bang for the buck steak dinner, maybe anywhere. Meal comes with appetizer, salad, bread, entree with starch, ice cream, and drink for very little money, and the steaks are great. I eat here a couple of times per month, and will continue, it is old school. My only knock is the salads seem premade and in a refrigerator, they are too cold.

Delicious Fried Chicken & Great Service

By Kathy P |

Our large tour group had the pleasure of dining at Sayler’s Old Country Kitchen. Generous portions of delicious fried chicken served with baked potato, delicious bread, fresh veggies, and sherbet for dessert. Really appreciated the efficient and friendly service for such a large group.

Not Enough Circled

When rating this restaurant there weren’t enough circles! This venue is excellent on every level. Incredible quantity, service and the best darn steaks ever!

Sail into Sayler's

By Milt R |

Come for steaks and tradition! They cook their meat to exactness and the flavor is extraordinary! A great value too. Not very fancy at all but great service!

You want tender and juicy steaks this is it.

By sweetrobinfly |

Sayler's Old Country Kitchen raise the cattle that you eat. I promise you will NOT walk away hungry. I live here in Portland and this is a regular place for us to eat. You will have to wait a good hour or hour and a half on the weekends if you like to eat at 6PM. But worth the wait. MMM

Good Old Time Steakhouse

By kdbauder |

Sayler's is a good old time steakhouse. They have the typical 72 ounce steak eating challenge. Their steaks are very good. Worth a visit.

Company Dinner

By Lu Anne F |

This is s very popular established family restaurant. We had a banquet room which was very cozy and quite. Of course everyone loves the fresh bread and fried onion rings for appetizer. They fresh veggies are a great munchie. I had the seafood platter “fried” Which was yummy! The halibut and scallops were cooked perfectly. Others ordered steak and lobster which they enjoyed. The service was great !

Old school in a good way!

By Mrsteacherlady |

It has been about four or five years since I ate at Saylers and it hasn’t changed, in a good way! So wonderfully old school, such exceptional service from the staff. We were seated quickly, our server was so attentive and well-mannered, took our drinks order quickly and brought out the classic Saylers appetizer of veggies, pickles, olives, and dip, warm bread and drawn garlic butter to dip it in. Yum! I ordered a steak because that is what Saylers is known for and it was done perfectly, good quality beef. Others in my dining party had steak too and everyone was pleased. I think that dining out used to be more like this, great service, no attitude from staff, simple menu done well. Accessing the restaurant can be tricky for those who don’t know that it’s on a one way, west bound, street, traffic can be heavy trying to get in and out of the parking lot, but plenty of parking.

The service is great but they have changed the way they cut meat. It’s a bit tough and quite a bit of gristle, which I’m not fond of. They brought two new steaks but same problem. Will not be hurrying back.
