best bartender in town

The bartender at Scalini's is so friendly. it is a great place to watch a game on Sunday, chat with the bartender. She makes you feel like family. Pizza is AWESOME as well. Only beer and wine, but the place is cozy.

Excellent small Italian place

By Dallastraveler49 |

Scalini’s Has been a family favorite for a number of years. Good Italian dishes and outstanding pizza. It is small and cozy with friendly and helpful wait staff. I recommend the spicy bow tie pasta with chicken or the fruit de mare. For appetizer I recommend the crab claws. Make sure you have plenty of bread to soak up the exilir. They also serve beer and wine.

First and last time

By Fede I |

I visited a couple of weeks ago for the first time, and my experience was quite bad. The service was very slow every step of the way: getting water, wine and the check took a long time. The food was awful: the salad was soaked in dressing, so not edible, and the fettuccini Alfredo were literally drowning in sauce. Too much. My friend's food had too much sauce as well so it was not just an issue with my dish, as she got something different. My stomach was upset for two days after eating here. Never again...

Delizioso!

By Michael C |

Scalini's is a funky, cool, neighborhood eatery in the Lakewood area of Dallas. Great food and atmosphere (although it can get a bit noisy). The pizzas are arguably the best in Dallas. Thin crust, fresh ingredients, served hot. So far, not a thing on the menu has disappointed me. There's a full bar and they also have a couple of tables outside in front. Don't miss this spot if you're looking for seriously good Italian fare.

Nice Little Italian place!

By Cori Gerlach |

Not familiar with the area and knowing everything somewhat close to the convention center would be busy and over 1hr wait, glad our friends stumbled on this great place! Chicken Picatta was good. I like mine a little less saucy, but this one was good. Enough for two! Everyone else’s plates looked good as well! If I have the chance to go back I will go for the this crust pizza!

Great Spot!

We ordered take out from this place and enjoyed it thoroughly. Pizza was great! I had a glass of wine while we waited. The staff here was very nice!

Richardson, TX location

By mdhinder |

This was a relatively quiet location, with a outdoor patio dining area. The staff was friendly and the food was tasty.

Carmel.

By Bilsano |

Our son took us here one evening and my wife and I both had the same thought. This place reminds us of a great little restaurant in Carmel, CA. The food and service was great. Very reasonable prices. This isn't a pizza parlor and it doesn't have the feel o a chain restaurant either. We split an ample portion of great lasagna and still left some on the platter. My son said they really have great thin crust pizza. We will go back and try that.

The food is good! The service is good. It is a small restaurant and worth dropping by for dinner if you are in the area.

Will never eat at Scalini's again

By larjay62 |

I have lived in Lakewood for over 20 years and have been a loyal customer of Scalini's Pizza, but never again. The business has been managed by the owner's daughter for some time now. She is the most rude person I have ever come in contact with at a business establishment, not only to my partner and I but to other patrons as well. It does not matter whether we dine in or take out, there is always some incidence involving her whether it be with us, other diners, or her own employees. I tried leaving a msg. on thier web site however, they do not provide a link for customer feed-back. Go figure. From now on, we will dine at the other Italian restaurant in Lakewood. They know how to treat their customers.

Always predictably good

By Allen G |

The only reason this place doesn't get a "5" is that, for the last 3 times, portions of the dinner haven't come out together. By "haven't come out together" we mean there is a 10 minute delta in the time the first person gets their entree, and the last person is served. But if you can enjoy your wine, the food is worth the wait. Get there early because it tends to fill up fast.

Good food, great price

By Bill |

Scalini's is a really popular, small neighborhood restaurant. The food is quite good, and the prices are great. Salad and garlic bread are included with entrees.

Great for an Italian fix

By Matt Blum |

Firstly, the pizza here is awesome and large. I ordered a medium because most places have a big smaller sizing. This thing was huge (which is awesome if you like pizza for breakfast)!

Whassup with the hatin'? Dallasites trust this place every time.

By chevytexas |

Honestly, some aged reviews should just expire. As of April 2011 Scalini's enjoys a reputation as friendly, customer focused and an authentic neighborhood bistro. I travel all the time but in any condition, I'm welcomed. A nice range of affordable wines accompany great thin piiza (brittle and loaded with fully cooked ingredients), or real kitchen dishes like scallopini or hand formed meatballs. Fancy? No. Comfortable? Absolutely. Revolving specialty desserts, YES there's a Ceasar salad, breadsticks, chatty Dallas staff. Authentic Dallas and worth a visit or for takeout.

Best pizza in Dallas

By Catherine |

The thin crust pizza is delicious! Our favorite is zucchini, ricotta and mushrooms. The mushroom soup is the best in the United States, creamy and woodsy with a splash of sherry.

Neighbor restaurant of the best kind!

By Hartrick |

A small intimate restaurant with great appeal from food to drinks and service. Excellent specials written on a charming blackboard. Standard menu with many choices. Excellent sauces, many kinds of pasta served with salad and garlic bread. They have a good choice of wines with the usual popular brands but also some surprises including Italian wines. By the glass, split or carafe or bottle. They have house wines that are very good. Romantic atmosphere with wall murals handpainted by artists. Pizza is fantastic with a excellent choice of toppings. Pizzas are huge! Parking is a problem so go as early as possible. Have take out if desired. They have several tables right outside on the sidewalk in good weather. I have never had a meal that wasn't excellent. Good quiet attentive service. This is a must for us on a regular basis. Good mid range prices. A GREAT value for a delicious meal!

Perfect neighborhood casual

By CliveWatkins |

Met family here, not in our area, but a good meeting place. Very easy, laid back and pleasant. Lots of smiling facing from workers in this small place. Food was very good, wish it was closer I'd come here weekly. Pasta fresh and well prepared, meatballs were a perfect blend of meats. Easy to like this place, easy prices, good good and people

A small hole in the wall, with great food. Lots of choices & very fresh. Love the pasta dishes. Looking forward to trying the pizza!

GOOD FOOD/HORRIFYING MANAGEMENT

By Pat E |

Wonderful food, horrifying manger! I am a regular customer there and called last night to complain about a server being rude to me when I placed a pizza delivery order over the phone and also to make sure they got the order right since they have made so many mistakes for which I have overlooked time and time again. The manger "Mandy" was horrifying to me. She began immediately being defensive rather than listen and started accusing me of "lying" and telling me I had a mental illness..hanging up on me without even listening to my problem. I became so angry at the insults that I called back to speak to the owner and then she began saying I was "stalking" her! I was furious by this point. She began, once insulting my "mental" state, yelling.... not allowing me to speak, insulting me and hanging up. I will find the owner of this place Mandy! These people who work here are just terrible and should not be working with the public.

Cozy eatery with great tasting dishes

Restaurant is cozy actually tables & boothes are a tight fit. Food is very tasty & authentic. Expect a wait but worth it. Nice wine selection. Shrimp pasta was delicious & had lots of shrimp.

Just a bite

By mrb394ever |

Three antiques-shoppers had drinks and a couple of fancy breads as a light bite in early mid-afternoon. Ate outside -- nice February day in the sun. Waitress very pleasant and willing to put up with our tiny bit of business (we were later than the lunch bunch). Food I saw looked very good.

One of our favorite pizza places

By SudanDust |

Scalini's is a great neighborhood pizza place here in Dallas. The pizza is great and so is the price and atmosphere. Also great for pick-up, which we do all the time. Can recommend enough if you are in Dallas!

Awesome pizza and salad.

"Great Pizza"

By baylor2007 |

OMG the pizza is the best I've ever had it's always hot and fresh with a crispy crunchy crust. I love the location and the service is always good.

Small place good food friendly people

By czmdivenut |

Good service (waiter opened a bottle of Chianit- looked at what he poured and took it back without us ever getting a drop and brought another bottle. Food was very good and the prices are not bad.

Whatever else you order, get a meatball!

By Mesha40 |

I love the food here. The pizza is served on a plastic tray, which threw me off the first visit, but the pepperoni was good. If it's your first visit, go with the sampler plate, there is plenty to share or take home for lunch the next day. You get spaghetti and a meatball, lasagna, cheese ravioli, bread, and a salad. What a deal! I prefer the meals over the pizza, but it's all good. It's a family place and you'll feel right at home. Talk to your neighbor, visit at the bar, or just find a table in the back and chat. Good food, good service, good place.

Great local italian place

By Hunter V |

This is our favorite local Italian restaurant. We've had issues with waiting and inattentive service, but it's busy and that's understandable. The food is great. I usually order the chicken parm. The pizza is great as well.

Wonderful Ravioli!

By soprincess_78 |

The hubby and I along with a friend dropped in on this place this past Friday. There was a little bit of a wait, but thats to be expected on a Friday night. The place is small, so we waited outside so we werent smoothering those who were already seated. The food was VERY good. I had the smoked chicken ravioli with pesto sauce and the hubster had it with a white wine sauce. Mine was better but they were both good. I would gladly go back there.

Great local spot

By Patrick Donlin |

Nice atmosphere and service. Food is good, not great. Great local spot with a true Lakewood vibe that is worth visiting!

If grandma cooked like this, no one would come

By jdbirch |

First visit, so had the lasagna/ravioli/sphaghetti sampler. Darn good meatball, but went downhill from there. Didn't like any of the three sauces. Ravioli pretty flavorless, lasagna ditto. Water spilled on floor and several customers slipped before they cleaned it up. "Bread" on the table was a waste of my time and attention.

Great pizza in a great atmosphere

By Dorothy H |

We just moved into the area and someone had recommended Scalini's for delivery. We ate in the restaurant first and really loved it! The atmosphere was cozy and the wait staff was wonderful. The prices were very reasonable. We'll definitely be back. It would be a great place to hang out with friends. They had a long wine list and the prices look reasonable for a bottle. Now that I know how good their pizza is, I'll definitely be calling in orders for delivery!

Rub elbows with the Locals and get advice as a bonus side

By bess |

Every time I step into this place I am transported to that scene in Lady & the Tramp where their noses touch slurping spaghetti- Really! I mean this in the best way: Casual laid back atmosphere, small wood tables placed cozy close, servers in jeans & black t shirts & ready smiles and an intoxicating smell from the kitchen that seems to always be bustling. There is at times an awkward pause at the door for first timers as you are not quite sure to sit yourself or wait. Answer- Wait. Unless you want bar service then head direct to one of the 5 bar spots available (and the only tv)- If you need to go walk up to the end of the bar where the register is and you will be taken care of. (Insider tip here: Sit at bar while food is being made and treat yourself to a glass of wine, best pour to cost to quality vino ratio in the Dallas is here). If you are a 6 people or more party ask to sit in the booth tucked around the corner. With the mirrors and green vinyl seats it is an instant Little Italy party mood maker. What to order? Yes cliche but true- hard to go wrong. However, the specials here really are special (Pumpkin ravioli in October is a love at first bite for me). Pizza is generously sized, I only order pizza when with at least one friend as it is not a solo endeavor, ever. I order my pizza crispy as sometimes the crust may come out a little mushy otherwise. Salad is a must for me here as it is simple honest light flavorful and comes with a porccino pepper (I love the bite o heat). Rush eaters need to go elsewhere(Zoe's is three doors down) as well as those that do not like to meet neighbors while you meal. Scalini's is truly a neighborhood hole in the wall (in the best way)- it has a small kitchen (filled it seems primarily with a pizza oven)- you can't rush goodness. Service is always friendly and knowledgable and most of the time quick to refill waters but sometimes not. For a quiet weeknight getaway (not Friday or Saturday) this is my Italian go to spot. Strong pours on wine, cozy atmosphere and relaxed pace is a great recipe for a midweek reboot.

My FAVORITE PIZZA!!!

By Cynthia F |

My husband and I drive out of our way to eat Scalini’s...hommade thin crust pizza that is some of the best pizza I’ve ever had!!! Get a house salad... and create your own pizza and you can’t go wrong. I highly recommend!!! While we have been sitting here, we have seen no less than 15 pizzas to go, leave out the door! So glad others enjoy it too, that means it will be here longer!

Disastrous Night

By 55LoneStar |

Unfortunate night. An hour wait, an hour at the table and then had to take most of the order to go. Good food at home. Pleasant waitress but horrific management of the operation this evening.

The Sauce Makes It! Smaller Crowds after 8PM

By traveljuggernaut |

Small dining area in the front is best if you want to smell what's coming out of the oven. I had the Veal Parm and what made it stand out above others in the same price category ($13 for entree, small salad and bread) was the delicious sauce and the thickness of the veal. It wasn't the typical pounded down to a shoe sole thickness that is then usually overcooked.

authentic italian

By latechgirl13 |

We were shopping next door and decided to try this place. Inside was inviting. nice booth area with dark wood. we got the garlic bread(could use help. was just poyboy bread with butter and garlic). the salad was really good. I got the cheese ravioli with alfredo sauce and my husband got the manicotti. my ravioli was rich in cream sauce , if the ravioli pasta was not homemade you fooled me. it was filled with ricotta cheese. my husband loved the meat sauce on the manicotti he said it wasn't really sweet like some Italian places. I will definitely be eating here again on our next trip.

Been going here for 8 yrs

Love this place... Great pizza, salads (Greek) amazing. I highly recommend this place as a hole in the wall near downtown Dallas. Good place for a quite beer with a date and pizza

A Friday Night Pizza Tradition

By mcgotes |

We've been enjoying a relaxed and always good pizza and/or pasta dinner at this neighborhood restaurant for 20 years! Informal setting, often crowded by 7pm filled with neighbors of all ages. A FAVORITE of ours is the medium pesto, chicken pizza or the pesto pasta with shrimp. A simple and tasty house salad rounds out a great meal and usually leftovers to enjoy! Highly recommended! FYI, weekday lunch is just as good and less crowded.

Neighborhood spot with good vibe and great food

By capitollover |

The pizza here is beyond the bland, chain store pizza that is so prevalent in Dallas. Not only can you get a great take-out pizza, but there is ample room to dine-in. I have also eaten pasta dishes here that were done to perfection. Beer is available on tap and in bottles. You get a true neighborhood feel that is sadly lacking in most of Dallas. Lakewood is a gem. The staff is friendly, and the prices are reasonable. It is well worth the drive.

Do take out- never go for the dine in option

By Saumya R |

My husband and I ordered a pizza for takeout and it was pretty good, so we decided to dine in one night and it was past 8 pm, it was super crowded and they offered us a table far in the back- the last table and closest to the wait staff's station. It was dark and dingy and there were mosquitoes everywhere. In addition to this it was so hot that day and there was no a/c? I couldnt tell if the ac was off or because it was so crowded we were sweating bullets. So ambience was pretty much zero. Now to the food- we ordered a medium pesto pizza with some toppings and that was so salty we could not eat it. We also ordered the linguine pesto which was good. My husband bought beer and it came in a warm glass, so with tthe heat in the restaurant that evening it became room temp in like four minutes, so he said it tasted bad. And ofcourse our bill was about 50$ so needless to say we will not be back here even for a takeout for a loooooooong time.

Never Again

By Quest55108932462 |

I have enjoyed the food from this local eatery for years. It has been one of my go to places in the area. The service has declined to an unacceptable level. The amount of time waiting for food, waiting for the check, no one busing the table…it is ridiculous. I look in the kitchen and the cooks were eating food, while I was waiting for mine. Not to mention, the staff has no sense of urgency. It's really sad because it is convenient and the food is good. I am done...I will find a new place because it is unacceptable to treat the patron with such disregard.

A throwback pizza joint

By MC994 |

Clearly a neighborhood favorite. The pizza was thin crust rectangular, served on cafeteria trays. We loved our chicken pesto pizza. The pepperoni pizza needed a little more herbs in its sauce. The other entrees we saw were generous portions. Great old style decor and atmosphere with many locals who both knew each other and the staff. Definitely worth a visit if you are in area of Dallas.

Great Food. Great Service

By Haley20 |

Love this little place. You get a true feel of an authentic Italian restaurant when you walk in the door. It's clean and inviting. The food is excellent. The chicken picatta is my favorite! We also enjoy ordering take out from here as well. This is on our list of places we frequent when in Dallas. Check it out, you will love it too!

Loved everything about this place. Quiet surroundings, nice staff, wonderful food, kids didnt go hungry at all. Need more options on deserts for children

Scalini's Pizza and Pasta aka Worst Service in Dallas!!!!!!!

By GlobeTrotting33298 |

I like the pizza at Scalini's and the other food is average, but the service is some of the worst of its kind in Dallas. Lots of people have stopped going there because of this. The managers don't care or don't care to notice. Other places serve pizza too and it just isn't worth it to deal with the service anymore. Sometimes a waitress doesn't even serve you water for 10 minutes and then you get a roll of the eyes if you ask for something. Do they train them all this way? This is absurd. Too bad they are soo bad because the pizza is good. They didn't used to carry caesar dressing. An Italian place without Caesar??????? They are also topping scrimpers. If you like privately owned little joints try Cafe Nostra on lowest Greenville or Mama Knows on Upper Greenville or for somewhere nicer, Taverna. Those places have good attentive staff that actually deserve tips. It certainly makes a difference how managers and staff treat their patrons. Scalini's is starting to get a bad reputation.

Not what I expected

By Bruce M |

I had the pasta special, the family had two different pizzas and it was disappointing. Now, let me remind you, this place was recommended to us and the place was packed but our pizza was tasteless. The pasta dish was loaded with cream, the chicken looked and tasted like it was from a frozen, pre-packaged Gordon Food store. The service was average. If you go, do not sit in the front of the restaurant by the door and the bar. Wait and get seated in the back. I might have to try this place again only because everyone else tells us Scalini's is great. But if it doesn't pass this time.....

A WONDERFUL ITALIAN DINING OPTION!

By Lorenzo Buttram Hubbard |

Desire a casual, yet intimate Italian dining experience; Scalini’s Pizza and Pasta awaits you! This comfortably sized bistro style restaurant, nestled in the middle of Lakewood’s shopping, and dining area, offers delicious cuisine and generous portions for reasonable prices. The friendly Scalini staff are wonderful accompaniments to their vast menu of some Italian favorites, including yummy pizzas. For those seeking something stronger than a soda, there are beers and wines to quench your thirst. I’m not an outdoors dining person, but there are a few sidewalk tables for those who like to people watch. Hope to see you there! Xoxo Lorenzo!

Very Poor Management

By Jon D |

My experience at this restaurant culminated in a racist experience that was unnecessary. We will never return to this establishment. The manager was belligerent and disrespectful. Very unprofessional!

Good pizza; low prices

By Robin B |

We went for dinner. We shared a large dinner salad which was big enough for two and pretty good with romaine, pimento olives, tomatoes, pepperoni, and cucumbers. Then we shared a pepperoni pizza that was large enough for two. It wasn't the best pizza I have ever had, but the reasonable prices elevate this restaurant to four stars for me. Service was friendly and efficient.

Awesome everytime!

By irishboy88 |

We go here all the time. Food is excellent, price is great, and the wait staff is always nice. We went and thought we would try the famous Campisi's Egyptian Lounge one night, we wound up walking out and coming back to our favorite place.

Fantastic Italian

By RonnyC2723 |

Scalini's is a hidden gem located in the heart of Lakewood. It's a favorite among the Lakewood crowd. Social distancing makes dining a very intimate affair, but it is very family friendly. There's always Italian music playing, and the atmosphere is totally relaxing. Servers are experts with helping you pair an appropriate wine with your meal. They are fast, efficient and personable without being intrusive. Every dish is authentic and wonderfully prepared. It's easy to become a loyal customer.

Reliably excellent neighborhood favorite

By ChrystinP |

I've been very remiss in not reviewing one of my most favorite restaurants in Dallas. We've lived in the neighborhood for 20 years and have eaten here at least once a month, sometimes more often, during that time. This is a small pizza and pasta restaurant nestled in the middle of a small strip mall in Lakewood (Gaston and Abrams) directly across the street from the Whole Foods store. It is definitely a neighborhood favorite and on busy nights there can be a lengthy wait. We always come early (5:30) or late (after 8:00), or choose the take-out/delivery option. There is parking in the lot directly in front of the strip mall, but as there are several restaurants in the mall, sometimes parking spills over onto the neighborhood streets and to businesses that are closed for the evening on surrounding streets. We've tried just about everything on the menu over the years and have yet to find something we truly didn't like. My most favorite menu items are the chicken scalopinne and the pizza. The chicken scalopinne is served with farfalle pasta and a spicy (but not hot) cream sauce. All main entrees are served with the house salad with a house vinaigrette (no other option), which is fine with us because we love their vinaigrette. The least favorite thing I've tried is the linguini with pesto sauce, as I find the sauce a bit too thin. The pizza is a very thin crust, with an excellent tasty marinara sauce, and lots of cheese. They use the best quality vegetables and toppings for the pizzas. At lunch there's a special for a personal sized pizza for $5 with two toppings. However, I prefer the standard small pizza for $6 and add a couple of toppings, so I'll have left-overs. The appetizers, soups, and desserts are also very tasty. We especially like the crab claws, the antipasto, and the cream of mushroom soup. Note that while I marked this as being suitable for business and entertaining clients, that's only if they're going to be comfortable in a neighborhood restaurant with excellent food, and not looking for steaks, with other expensive food and wine options. This is for clients who value content and quality over price and up-scale environment.

Neighborhood favorite

By Lee C |

Scalini's serves pizza and pasta, including ravioli. Nice sauces, generous portions. The takeout is prompt, but consider a dine-in meal. Service is friendly and attentive. It's a true Lakewood spot; stroll around the collectibles shop. Strike up a conversation. Great single diner spot.

Yummy-ness in East Dallas

By DallasTricia |

I've eaten here twice and loved it. The first was just lunch, sausage and mushroom pizza. It was pretty good. I'm from Chicago and a bit of a pizza snob so it's great to find another place to add to my (very) short list of pizza spots in Dallas. My husband I had dinner at Scalini's last weekend. The atmosphere is great, though we sat close to the door on a chilly night. Nice and cozy little place. Service was pretty good. The Italian vinaigrette dress was great! My hubby cleaned his plate of fettucini alfredo with chicken and my spinach lasagne was good, very rich, and wayyyy too much for one person to eat. :-)

Very good

By Gary H |

Ate lunch here for first time. I thought it was a cute, intimate local eatery. The prices are certainly reasonable. I had salad and ravioli for $11.00. The house salad was excellent! The ravioli was good not great. I will return!

Okay food, horrible service

By XoPolishLadyXo |

When you call in an order and they tell you it'll be a half hour...it never is, it'll at least be an hour wait. What a joke. Food isn't that great for the long wait...even after you called ahead!

A small neighborhood place but great spaghetti and pizza! Love the marinara sauce and thin crust pizza. prices are good and place has a cozy feel. Enjoyed very much .

Good pizza

By BigDTravel |

I eat lunch here about five or six times a year. I always get the lunch pizza and it's always perfect. The service isn't five star and sometimes is really awful, so I couldn't give it five stars. But the food is fantastic.

Despite the other bad reviews, I've never had a problem with Scallinis and they seriously have some of the best pizza I have ever tasted.... the other dishes are extremely generous portions and always last me 2 meals. Very affordable, pleasant staff, and timely delivery in my neighborhood.
