Needed a Monday night Italian fix, and Scannicchio's was open with easy parking (2 benefits of dining out on Mon night!). Service was friendly. Recommend the crab spaghetti. Eggplant parm was a bit bready and cheesy for my liking. Have a cannoli for dessert - crisp shell plus incredibly creamy ricotta - a 10!

Not a bad place for dinner near the sports complex. Parking is a bit difficult but the food was good!

I have been to Scannicchio's a few times now and have never been disappointed in the least. BYOB isn't a problem bring your favorite and enjoy the service, friendliness and knowledge of the staff. I had the the stuffed veal and it was absolutely delicious. I enjoy the small atmosphere nothing rushed. I will be back next trip to Philadelphia.

My wife and I were in Philly for a family reunion held earlier in the day. I contacted Scannicchio's at the beginning of dinner service and was pleased to get a reservation for 8:30 PM on a Saturday night. The person taking my call was extremely polite and gave a quick rundown on the parking situation around the restaurant. Incredibly, in South Philadelphia, we found a legit parking spot across the street from the restaurant. We were greeted quickly upon entering the establishment and saw that it was filled with diners. We were taken to the only table left open and our waitress went over the specials and answered questions. We selected a special appetizer of figs wrapped in prosciutto ham topped with goat cheese and placed on a bed of steamed spinach and grape tomatoes. The flavor was amazing. Never had something like that. We ordered veal dishes from a great menu. I had Vitello Piccata (veal medallions, lemon, white wine, and garlic butter sauce with capers. My wife ordered the Vitello alla Milanese (breaded veal cutlet, broccoli rabe, roasted peppers and provolone cheese). Each main course came with a side of pasta and red sauce. The meals were large and very flavorful. I had to help my wife finish her meal and felt stuffed. We had no room for dessert except for coffee. The entire dining experience was enjoyable. We were treated like family not customers and we've never eaten there before. There was no rush but no long wait either. When I received the check I could not believe the high value I received for the price paid. This was a nice experience. I recommend this restaurant highly. One bit of info, this restaurant is Bring Your Own Bottle (BYOB). So come with your favorite alcoholic beverage if you choose. Come. Eat. Enjoy.

We were going to another Italian restaurant in Philadelphia and found out they were closed due to their summer vacation. We stopped at Scannicchio s instead. We were glad that we did, We had a delicious white bean and escarole dish as an appetizer. As our main course we had gnocchi and hot and spicy stuffed calamari. Both dishes were enormous and delicious. Thank you "other" Italian restaurant for being closed...

We had a really good dinner here. Everything was served at proper temperature, they accommodated a special request, our waitress was attentive without being annoying and the portions were generous without being disgustingly large. We all ordered something different and everyone was satisfied, even my husband who is very critical when it comes to restaurants. I would definitely return.

Went last night. Grumpy staff and pushy, wrong personality for the restaurant business. food not as good as we expected. Not hot and small portion of pasta with dinner. High price for soup. Italian bread best part of meal! Won't return!

I've been taking my mom out to Scannicchio's for her birthday for the last 5 years. Food and service were always great. This year the food was great and the service awful -- even though I told the waiter right off that we were there for my mom's birthday. Drink orders taken late, we were crammed into a corner table right near the door even though we called early in the week to make a reservation, requests for additional silverware were forgotten, food came out way after other people who came in after us. Also had a 20% gratuity tacked on for our party of 7. I understand that's their policy, but it was a bitter pill to pay a 20% tip for a dinner experience that was hugely disappointing.

I recently had dinner here. Food was good, service was bad. There were a handful of large parties, which clearly took priority. I felt like I was an after-thought. It took forever to get our order placed and our food. Service needs A LOT of work!

My sister came from upstate New York to take my husband, son, daughter in law and myself to dinner. She chose Scannicchio's. We live close by so we walked to the restaurant. Parking is on the street so it is at a premium. Unfortunately it started to pour while we were eating. We settled in with the sausage and figs in a balsamic reduction. A few of us followed with salad. The men opted for pork chops. My sister and I enjoyed eggplant rollantini. Dessert was coffee and pistachio cheesecake. Not sure of the cost ( my sister treated) but as a BYOB, Scannicchio's is an affordable, authentic Italian restaurant.

What a pleasurable referral by Pestos Ristorante! Thank you to Lori and Sandy for such a high-top bar entertaining delicious food experience! You and your staff were very welcoming from the moment we stepped in the door. The aroma from the roasted garlic let us know that we were in for a treat. We ordered: Beet Salad, Asparagus, Mancotii and Shrimp Fradavoli We will be back over and over again. Neighborhood seemed safe.

This may be the best southern Italian restaurant that I ever had the pleasure of visiting. The waiter was very knowledgeable and made outstanding suggestions. The fried meatball appetizer was outstanding. I had the chicken parm and loved it. Everyone else at the table ordered something different and thought what they ordered was great. You can bring your own wine so the price is reasonable!

.... and feel Ike they are their Nona’s.. This is the place!! No “Nuvo” This or that.. this is is the place for the best Italian red gravy place... hands down... just go!

Wife and I went before the Eagles concert last weekend. The dinner here was the highlight of our trip to Philadelphia. Appetizers and meal were all delicious. We did not do dessert. Remember BYOB.

Scanicchio's food is authentic old school Italian and consistently excellent. They have been in business for many years and never disappoint. Hometown family owned business who make you feel so welcome, you feel like you went to their home for dinner. Food is always fresh and current as well as changing with the best produce and crops of the season. The figs and zucchini flowers are to die for! I dream about them!! If you're coming from out of town it's seconds from all the main arteries and all the concert and sports venues. Don't miss it!

We ate here with a total of 10 people. It's a small place but they had our table close to reservation time. Once in there, did not feel crammed in. Servers were great, not overbearing. Food selection was great, with usual and unusual Italian fare. My sister got the tripe and loved it. It was good! All the food I ordered was delicious. Everyone in our group enjoyed their meal. We were there a long time but never felt rushed which was great! A great Philly experience!

Awesome Italian restaurant in S Philly. My nephew graduated early in the day and we celebrated at Scannicchio’s. Staff was wonderful and very friendly. Dinner for 6 of us and everything was wonderful. Awesome appetizers, followed by phenomenal entrees. Definitely visiting during my next visit to the city of brotherly love.

We came here to celebrate a family anniversary and couldn't have picked a better place. The restaurant is a quant little on Broad Street that is family owned and run. This is especially appropriate since my son said the smell of the Italian food reminded him of my parents home. The menu is authentic and offers lots of fantastic options. The other observation made by my son that his ravioli dinner was the best he's ever had. In fact all the food we had was absolutely delicious. Of you're looking for a nice, family friendly place to eat when you're in Philly this is a must stop. Please keep in mind it is a BYOB and because locals know how good it is I would recomend making reservations.

Started with a great appetizer; fig and sausage in a balsamic reduction. Had an incredible Veal Francese main. Deserts just as good. Reasonably priced. Excellent service.

My First time at this establishment (Party of 8) as it came highly reccomended by a friend. I was not disapointed. On a busy Saturday i was sat promptly at my reservation time by one of the most friendliest hostesses possible, and greated by our waiter that was happy to serve us and cared about making our experience pleasurable. He recited the specials and paused after each one so we can indulge in what he said! he made all of us very hungry .... everyone ordered something different, was tasted every thing and were not disapointed. the meats were as good as the waiter said they will be (filet mignon and a Pork oso bucco) the pasta fresh and homemade great (gravy) and a chicken picanti that was flavorable and asy to cut. The deserts fresh and hommade A pumpkin canoli and a Pumpkin cheese cake. frozen we had a outstanding pistachio gelato.I highly reccommend this establishment!

Nice Italian restaurant right in South Philadelphia food is excellent and you can bring your own alcohol.

This is an exceptional family owned and operated restaurant. There was a stuffed fig appetizer wrapped in prosciutto that was to die for. The treatment of a veal chop was exceptional. i would recommend without qualification their veal dishes. If you want simple pasta, maybe you should look somewhere else. And don't be afraid to engage the service staff. They are all related. :)

The first impression was the bathroom as I needed use it first. Caked on dust. Toilet that never flushed and needed to tell someone which makes it uncomfortable. Well the soup not worth the purchase lack of flavor and substance, paying for colored water. Even Campbell's taste better then this. Parking is a challenge just get an Uber to another resturant. Real foodies do not mind paying for good food. Skip it!

I recently visited on a busy week night, I was greeted very quick and promptly by a very charming hostess, and once seated I was greeted by a friendly and knowledgeable Server, he told us about that nights additions to the menu, and explained everyone in full detail, making my mouth water with anticipation. he had a full restaurant and it seemed like every table was getting his and his co servers full attention. I ordered the Pork Chop toped with Fig on his recommendation, and my friends ordered a bronzino, a veal chop and penne vodka with crab. for starters we had a Brussels sprout starter that was to die for, and a mussel and clam dish that was seasoned to perfection and had a great broth. we got 2 ceaser salads to share and the dressing was also to die for. we save room for desert and got a chocolate mousse, and blood orange sorbet. I highly recommend this place, the service was impeccable and the food was out of this world. you will not be disappointed.

SCANNICCHIO’s was a huge hit for my family of 20 who were celebrating Christmas in Philly. We had a 5 hour window on a Mini-Bus to tour some of Philly’s attractions and yet provide enough time for dinner. I got a recommendation from a friend for a BYOB in South Philly and since this would be our first occasion I made arrangements in advance with Mike (Owner/Chef) to speak with him about reservations, menu suggestions, etc. His suggestions were spot on since we had agreed on Appetizers ahead for the group which by the way included my wife’s family from New Orleans who were visiting from out of town for the holidays. We came for a taste of old school South Philly Italian flavors at this friendly corner restaurant and were not disappointed. It was the highlight of the evening that ALL enjoyed. Looking forward to our next dinner there.

Got a recommendation from someone who lives in South Philly to go here. It did not disappoint. Hands down the best meatballs I've ever had. My wife got the Gnocchi Al Forno...Delicious. I got the homemade Eggplant Parm special...Very good! There Cannoli was one of the better ones I've had. My son enjoyed his chicken cutlet and had a good time with the waitstaff. Overall one of the better places I've eaten. This is a must place to eat when in Philly

Went to this restaurant on the way home from helping my daughter move into her apartment. Only reason I stopped...got lucky and found a spot on Broad. Wish I never did!!..this place is old and tired. They have a pretty good size bar...except it's a BYOB. They also seem to have a spot, were at some point, they made Brick oven pizza. Now it's a waste of space. When I asked if there was a place to get a bottle of wine, I was told. "no"!. let's talk service....maybe not. Table was very uneven, but couldn't tell anyone...nobody around...Waiter finally showed up, we were never offered a beverage until he did. He then read all the specials...Meanwhile the lady at the "bar" was checking her phone the entire time)...so we just ordered...Veal Parm...maybe...veal was thin, dry and tasteless. Penne pasta on side which came out 5 minutes before our entree was cold. Wife had the veal saltimbucco, someone needs to tell the chef, you need to burn off the Marsala wine...her linguini was also cold...finally when we were asked if we wanted to have leftovers wrapped the "bartender" says..."wow that table is wobbling"... as our food was brought to us in a plastic bag, she only then decided to fix the table...I guess she was trying to be friendly then because she mentioned how..."I remember when you used to be able to take a sweet and low or a book of matches...to fix this" whatever!! There are a ton of new and exciting restaurants in Philly and as the "bartender" told the two people who walked in at 8:45...GO TO PASSYUNK

Had a really good meal here on a Saturday night prior to a Villanova game at the Wells Fargo Center. It was packed. The food was really good. We had calamari and broccoli rabe with sausage appys. They were great. My dining guests had everything from spaghetti and clams to ravioli to veal milanese to the veal chop. All rave reviews. The service was great. Small place so make a reservation.

The Sicilian calamari is well worth my 2 hour commute. Crisp-tender calamari tossed with hot and sweet peppers, onions, olives in an complexly balanced vinaigrette.I eat this as an appetizer or smaller plate. The escarole and beans show that simplicity can be so satisfying. The entrees are always delicious and I nearly always go with the specials. The place is very small so reservation are recommended. Service is always good and the servers KNOW the food and can describe with complete accuracy. It's not foo-foo food, it's delicious food with traditional Italian presentation. There are lots of choices in South Philly but you have to enjoy dinner here while you're in town.

My family came here for dinner on Friday night while we were here. It was for a private function so I cannot speak to how crowded it normally is, but based on their food though I would guess very. It is a BYOB restaurant so if you do want to drink you will have to bring your own alcohol. All the items we did have were off of their set dinner menu. For the appetizer dish we had a mixed assortment of their appetizers including the fried ravioli the fried mozzarella sticks along with some others. All were very good especially with their marinara sauce. For the first entrée dish we had penne à la vodka which was sprinkled with Reggiano cheese. The pasta was cooked perfectly though could have used just a touch more sauce on mine. For my second entrée dish I got the chicken Parmesan. They give you a fairly sizable piece of chicken covered with marinara sauce and cheese. It was a very good dish. Lastly for dessert we had the ricotta cheesecake. At the time I was full, so I was going to take it home for later. The problem with that idea though was my loving wife, who I love and cherish, ate it while I stepped away from the table. So overall I would say it was very good since she ate two pieces. Overall I would recommend this place though I would recommend probably getting a reservation since it is fairly tiny.

Great food and portion size for the price!! Love to come to South Philly, and this is a great place for family, friends, and couples!

We eat there a few times a year and the food is consistantly excellent! Always looking forward to my next visit.

So, my husband and I have not been here since the first opening of this restaurant. Now I know why. From the time we walked in everything went wrong. First, they didn't have our reservation. After being scolded, we were told we should have received a call to confirm we were seated. Second, our order was given and the appetizers were wrong . My fish was dry but I ate it anyway. My husband liked his ravioli dish. How hard is it to make ravioli's. Finally, we ordered chocolate cake and we got chocolate something. We will not be returning to Scannicchio's again.

Been to Scabbucchio's many, many times. This restaurant is BYOB. The memu is surberb and their specials are always right on. Service is excellent and with a warm inviting attitude.

If you are craving warm informal family cooked Italian food, this is a very nice choice. Pretty standard menu but everything was full of flavor and solid portions. Tasty chicken parmigiana , thinner and crispier than the norm, but we liked it that way. Good veal saltimbocca. Friendly informal service.

Service was just as amazing as the food ! Plentiful and delicious Five star😍. We were welcomed at the door. Seated immediately and waited on by the entire staff⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️

Had dinner here last Saturday night as we were in town to see a show. During our visit to Boston last year we met a group from Philly who said if we were ever in town to give this place a try. Well, we did and we would return the next time we visit. To start, my GF and I shared an appetizer that was a special for the day, Figs and Sausage, very good. I had the the Tilapia Florentine which was delicious and cooked to perfection. My GF had the Tripe, something that she enjoys but is not usually found on most menus. All the food was fantastic. It's a BYOB.

Wife and I went after a visit to the Museaum of the American Revolution for an early dinner. We had the Bruschetta, very tasty. Wife had the Mista salad and I had the Caprese salad. Both were outstanding. The Caprese salad had huge NJ beefsteak tomatoes and fresh mozzarella. Yum! For entres my wife had the veal parm and I had the veal picatta. Again, both were outstanding. Never disappointed. We also like that it is a BYOB. The service was outstanding, as usual. The ambiance is classic South Philly Italian. Have never had a bad meal here.

Went to this restaurant to celebrate my wife's birthday. We had been there before but not for quite some time. We were looking forward to a great Italian dinner and they did not disappoint! The "Sausage & Figs" is an amazing appetizer made with fresh figs and is like nothing we have ever had before. If you like the taste of figs you will love this dish. My wife had the grilled Swordfish and she said it was amazing! Topped with mussels, scallops, shrimp and clams, it was more than she had imagined and was a wonderful treat. I had the filet mignon topped with lump crab meat, asparagus and garlic mashed potatoes. The filet was perfect and the crab delicious. Needless to say we did not have room for dessert but we did take some cannoli home for later. Made for a delicious breakfast the next morning. The cannoli was made fresh before serving. An amazing place to go for dinner but be sure to make a reservation, even on a weeknight.

We planned a late dinner for a group of eight that was to start at 9:30pm, a half hour AFTER the kitchen normally closes. The manager that evening, Mark Gibson, graciously kept the kitchen open and waited for our group. We were later than expected but at no time were we given any pressure by Mark or the wait staff. When the group arrived, we had an outstanding meal, off of the full menu, and again, were never pressured to hurry ourselves. The next day, my wife and I enjoyed a great lunch and saw, once again what this place is all about. People taking care of people in a comfortable environment with great food. If you are visiting South Philadelphia, go to Scannicchio's.

Great food. And a BYOB. without the poor etiquette of a cork fee. But then there is the service. In true South Philly Style prepare to be treated like, well let's just say, "poorly". Apparently they don't want you to leave happy. Just leave with the taste of poor management in your mouth.

Four of us went to Scannicchio's for dinner last Saturday. As soon as we sat our wine was opened and the specials recited. And what yummy specials they were! We had the broccoli rabe and sausage, mussels and clams, and fried squash blossoms for appetizers. WOW For our main course we had the new york strip rubbed in garlic, seafood alla Scannicchio and two different specials. Everything was flavorful, filling and presented beautifully.

I begged and convinced (against their wishes, they wanted to go to the Capital Grill) a group of my friends to try Scannicchios prior to visiting the flower show on Saturday night. My wife and I have eaten their twice in the past and had nothing but rave reviews. Our reservations were for 5 O'clock and we were seated upon arriving 5 minutes early. It went down hill from there, I should have known since there was a party of 25 or so behind us that wasn't all seated yet. The waiter was pressed for time and rattled off 10 or so specials in about one minute while watching the table of 25 out of one eye. He promptly came back and asked for our order and when I said I might need a bit more time, he looked at the large party next to ours and said I better make it quick for he thought we should get our order in before he took theirs, otherwise we would be waiting a while. Perhaps looking back I should have waited because our meal sucked. Appetizers consisted of Calamari,(I couldn't place the breadcrumb seasoning, but I was disappointed in the flavor) brussel Sprout special (really wasn't anything special, my wife commented on how much better mine are) two out of the three couples ordered the brussel sprouts and the waiter was confused of who got them and just thrown them down on the table for us to decide where they went (again I think he was more concerned of the party of 25) Brussel sprouts were burnt and tasted like burnt balsamic vinegar. Someone ordered the escargot but they should have been called what they tasted like... snails out of the schulykill. My friends were starting to question my restaurant choice and were wondering if I ever even been to Scannicchios before. Dinner came, unfortunately. On the bright side... One of my friends ordered a filet and she let me try a piece.. It was flavorful and done to her liking.... Now the others...one ordered the shrimp parmesan which the shrimp was battered and fried (Well over fried), topped with mozzarella and gravy. I looked at it and it was burnt around the edges, feeling bad for me, he ate it along with the side of penne soup... ooops... It wasn't soup, just penne that was swimming in marinara sauce, a lot of marinara sauce which made me to believe it was soup. My wife and I ordered a salad along with the Veal Saltimbocca. WAY OVER DONE... Actually it reminded me of a Rubin actually crispy without the bread? That make sense? Oh the salad never came and to find a waiter... Unless I was sitting with the table of 25, none to be found. The other couple ordered I think the broiled seafood? I don't know for they didn't want to comment. The dessert!!! WOW. We had pistachio pie and sherbet both were delicious and looking back would have ordered that as our main meal. I would have to say that the best part of the meal was the dessert and the wine we chose to bring. I don't like to trash a place and if you read previous reviews, I will tell you when an establishment is good and when it sucked.

Friends out to dinner, six of us, we all loved our dinner the service was great, marc and Alexa gave us 100% attention. We all loved the Jersey tomato Tower , sausage and figs, and the mussels and clams positano starters, for dinner the pork chop with fresh figs and the penny putanesca, and penne alla vodka all were a hit. Desert we had a variety of homemade favorites. lie cannoli and tiramisu. I highly recommend this place but make a reservation. GREAT FOOD AND SERVICE...... WE WILL BE BACK.

Enjoyed dinner at Scannicchio's during a pseudo-work trip in February 2015 and was super impressed by the service and the food. Luckily I was seated at a table of people that didn't mind sharing so I was able to sample more than a few dishes and every single one was awesome. Perfectly cooked pasta, seafood, steaks and more...I was completely enamored with this place and will go back if I ever return to Philadelphia. We also enjoyed the BYOB aspect of this restaurant and the staff was friendly and helpful with corkage and service.

I love Italian food, but where I live it's not really authentic. This was the real deal. Outstanding food, unique dishes, large portions, and super tasty. It's a BYOB, which makes this place even more affordable. Everyone LOVED their meals and we had plenty to take home for another meal. I'd go back in a heartbeat.

Recently had dinner at this family owned Italian restaurant. Clean, convenient and good. Service is excellent. Parking is never easy. It is Philly. Like most all restaurants, prices have gone up a lot. I can't afford to eat out a lot, but this one is worth it.

Was looking for a BYO Italian with a lot of protein on the Menu. Am on the Keto diet and so many Italians have very little meat and very few choices. Has a fabulous pork chop. Chef was willing to customize any way I wanted. Food and service excellent. Vert friendly and warm staff. South Philly is the place to go for real old style Italian fare.

Place is just another overpiced Paste Palace in S. Philly. Very loud place. Clams casino were very obviously purchased and were cold when served. Overpiced at $8.95. Split pea soup was watery...absolutely no base...........tasteless. Sides of pasts were overcooked and watery. There are much better restaurants in this Italian Neighborhood. DON'T WASTE YOUR HARD EARNED MONEY ON THIS PLACE.

This was our first and last visit to this restaurant. I brought a group of friends there for a special dinne. The waitress was rude from the start and numerous mistakes were made with our order. My pasta was supposed to have olive oil and garlic on the pasta... there was nothing on the pasta and the seafood was tasteless and over cooked, and not worth the $32 that was charged. It was probably the worse pasta dinner I've ever eaten. The other dishes arrived at the table Luke warm and not very appetizing. This restaurant was awarded a zagat 2017 award..... I'm not sure how that could be possible, from what we experienced.....don't waste your money here!

Excellent food and service. Highly recommend! Great salad, appetizers, entrees, dessert, coffee and dessert. Everyone enjoyed their meal. Staff was fabulous!

Loved it, best "Gravy" of any Italian Restaurant we have ever been. Veal dishes were great, Filet was perfection! You need reservations, place is small, cozy though...staff was great!

Delicious food! You have to try the sausage with figs!

Had dinner with 5 others Sat. Night. I was the only one who ordered an appetizer, delicious stuffed artichoke. came fairly quickly, however entrees did not arrive for almost an hour! Waiter never came by to ask if we needed anything or to offer apology while we waited. There are a lot of good places to eat in south philly who have friendly waiters, find one.

Absolutely fabulous meal this past Saturday with the Scannicchio's crew. We haven't been there in years, and they did not disappoint. Service - topnotch! Meal - longhots, sacchetti, pasta seafood & chicken picata - All delicious. And their bread is fantastic - whoever supplies the bread - don't stop this relationship. Ambiance - is just meh, but the food and service are the stars of the show! Thank you - Will be back with the entire family soon.

I read the other reviews and selected this as an option to visit with my sister and brother-in-law after touring some art studios in Philadelphia. None of us was particularly thrilled about our dinners. The side dish of pasta with marinara sauce that came with our veal dishes was cold, and the meal itself was lukewarm (in temperature). Taste was "ok", but we all agreed that we could have cooked something better at home. It was really expensive for a not-so-great dinner: $190 for four (did include tip) and since it's BYOB there was no liquor on the bill. Eeeeks!!! We won't be going back.

Best italian food in philly. Christian and michael some of the best chef’s in philly. Marc, alexa , and, colleen some of best servers in philly and wartant a 30 percent tip or more . The best fried meatballs, fried calamari , and, eggplant stack. The best veal parm, lobster or cheese ravioli, or, spaghetti and clams. Wow to end this fabulous meal you must have the pistacchio cheesecake

1st time diners ... Heard great things, service was poor, food fair at best, portions small. Desserts very good. Would not recommend...

Went there on a Wednesday with my husband and baby when we walked in we were not even greeted I let that go then my son who is 1 was with me the waiter was such in a rush and had a problem with my one year old eating and I guess made a mess I just think they need to work on their customer service and regardless of race should be more courteous

Went on a Saturday night and we were a table of 11 (4 kids, ages 9,8,5 and 3). They were very busy, but our waiter was still attentive and knew what we needed before we asked. The food was delicious and they were very accommodating with gluten free options. Will definitely go back.

One of the best Italian places to eat in the city. Red gravy classics at their best, but their specials are also awesome. Great place for a nice dinner that never disappoints.

This is a relatively small BYOB. We ate dinner there last night and had a wonderful meal. The staff was curteous, service was great and best of all the food was delicious. We shared a grilled romaine salad and I enjoyed one of my favorites - eggplant parm. The serving was large enough that I brought half of it home. Because we were going on to a bb game there wasn't time to linger over dessert, but I would have liked to......maybe next time. I'm sure I will be back.

August 7, 2008--Ventured to South Philly to try out this restaurant. It was well worth the trip. Food was great from antipasto, to seafood bisque to the enormous servings of stuffed calamari and penne with lumped crab. The lobster ravioli was equally amazing. Salad was great with fresh NJ tomatoes. Ambience was nice and tranquil. Staff was friendly and sweet. The owner helped us get a cab back to the hotel. We will definitely come back to eat when we visit again from NY city. I recommend this restaurant to anyone visiting Philly.

This place was suggested by my niece and she was so on target. Atmosphere, food, service were just fabulous. Highly recommend this restaurant if you are in Philly. Not far from sports complexes. Parking is tricky so be prepared to walk if necessary.

Ate here with friends and had a wonderful time. The food was very good as was the service. Will plan to return to try more menu items! Have to make reservations and on weekends at least, they are every two hours so you may have to adjust your schedule around them.

Authentic and creative Italian fare making the most use of in-season foods. Think outside a four-block radius if you are attending a show on the Avenue of the Arts. The atmosphere is that of a neighborhood restaurant and the food is first class.

What an amazing gem of a restaurant to discover on a quiet street in South Philly! I will definitely be coming back again and again. Wonderful Arugula, beet, goat cheese, candied walnut salad with white balsamic blood orange dressing. Next we split a stuffed baked/steamed artichoke which as great to see on the menu and we were delighted to know was one of their most popular appetizers. Home made gnocchi in a rich tomato sauce and dripping in fresh moZzarela cheese was a rich delight and I suspect the mozzarella was made locally in the Italian market! The white wine brine for our next dish, the mussels was very well executed but they lost a star for the mussels, which weren't consistently delicious. They may want to take that up with their seafood vendor! I will be back!

Service was terrible. The staff were cranky and pushy! The food was average, not bad, but way overpriced! Our food was over cooked. The shrimp, Brussel sprouts, escargot were overdone. The atmosphere was not pleasant. Skip this place!

You will find something to love at Scannicchio's - the menu is massive. True authentic Italian food. We tried the fried ravioli and sausage with figs as an appetizer - really tasty. Most in our family gravitated to the known versus the unknown - chicken parm. Huge portions. our group also ordered linguine with meatballs, Pollo Bianco, and ravioli. Very cozy spot. BYOB. Great place to experience the wonderful food of South Philly. Great food you will not be disappointed.

Absolutely wonderful Italian food is served here. If you know what real Italian food is, you will appreciate Scannicchio's. If you think Olive Garden is the bomb, please stay away. The family is great and service perfect. The dishes fantastic. Oh by the way, no reservation, don't be a cry baby. Grow up, figure it out, and make a reservation. I have never been disappointed here.

Wow, just had dinner there with 6 other people. It was my little sisters 60th birthday. My oldest so Hans, my Nieces Husband and I had Cioppino or Fisherman’s Stew even though they called it some thing else. It was over a bed of homemade pasta and all three of us choose the marina sauce, I was in heaven. My sister had Shrimp Fra Diavolo which she says is the best she has ever had and she has eaten here 7 times. My nice had a fish dish off the special menu. My youngest son had the veal special in a balsamic glaze it was beautiful and he devoured it. Our other friend had a thick filet with crab meat. The appetizers were out of this world. I have to mention a salad I’ve had every time I go there. It’s not on the menu anymore but they made three orders of it that we all shared. A romaine head grilled in a balsamic glaze that I would love to know how to make with Godzilla cheese. I grew up in Philly and I live in Hershey now. There is only one Italian Resturant in Hershey, Piazza Sorrento that comes close to Scannicchio at Broad and Porter in South. Scannicchio’s in South Philly is a treasure, it is great Italian food and they have carrying proud servers. By the way it’s a BYOB. image1.jpeg Sent from my iPad

I have always loved Scanniccios. But this time it was really, really unacceptable. There were six of us dining and four of us ordered from the menu -- some form of veal dish. Two diners ordered from the daily specials. Those who ordered from the daily specials enjoyed their dinners, before a but those of us who ordered a veal dish were very disappointed. We all ordered something different from the menu but we all also noticed that the veal tasted sort of old and a little gamey. Since this was a special occasion we didn't make a big deal of it at the time. All of the appetizers, however, were delicious. My suggestion to future diners would be to only order from the daily specials and maybe even only order just the appetizers-- Create a sort of tapis Italian evening!

Probably the best BYO in South Philly. Amazing food!

A group of friends have been getting together each year to take in a local college basketball game and then a good meal. This restaurant is the ONLY place we will go! It’s awesome! Old style Italian restaurant with a terrific wait staff and an even better menu. Pay attention because the nightly specials list is long and detailed. Between those and the comprehensive menu selections you won’t be disappointed. Salads are fresh and generous. The soups are homemade and delicious. And the main courses are incredible. We had Fruita de la Mer that was overflowing with shellfish, a salmon entre that was cooked to perfection and the black ink pasta that couldn’t be beaten! It’s a BYOB place so by the time we finished lounging over our food and wine we didn’t have room for one of their amazing desserts. If you are in South Philadelphia and haven’t tried Scannicchio’s, you’re missing out!

Our family has been going to Scannicchios for 10 years. Romantic dinners, birthdays, graduations, family dinners and New years eves. Never once had a bad time or meal, They are a true South Philly family owned restaurant. The staff are top shelf. You must stop there if you are ever in the Philadelphia area....

This place seemed very authentic compared to places Ive eaten in italy. Apps were really impressive althought slightly over priced (or under sized) for italian food. The sweet potatoe gnocchi and sausage with figs were both great. Escargot was decent. The bread was warm and fresh. Entres were very large and service was excellent. My lobster ravioli had great flavor but the microscopic 'rock shrimp' were an embarrassment to the dish and there was barely a hint of lobster. I cant believe the chef (who was obviously well trained based on the quality of the dishes) would use the type of shrimp you would find on a ramen cup o' noodle soup. The meal was still very good, I would just rather they leave the shrimp off the plate, or charge a little more so they can afford to use legit shrimp. My fiances tilapia was excellent. Dessert was fantastic and dispite the complaint about the shrimp I still thought the meal was great over all and a good value.

Went here back in December 2011 near week before christams lot of parties all they cared about was there large groups parties was treated badly very homophobic waiter we had younger guy he was rude and gave cold pasta food had no taste never came to check on us at all dissapeared all night long did nothing to make it better at all if it wasn't for the hostess was nice owner was rude did nothing about food being cold or tasteless just said they were sorry never would I ever go here every again so many better places that are not careless Nd homophobic birthday dinner was ruined so stay away from here if u don't wanna be treated bad

As a returning and former satisfied customer, I turned to Scanicchio's to hold my girlfriends birthday. I was going to make a special announcement but that was rethought after the terrible service we received from the staff. They tried calling earlier in the day to se if i could come in earlier, but i was unable to be reached due to work, when i finally called them back, i was treated very rudely and they made me feel like i did something wrong. I made a reservation for 8pm, they close at 9pm. When I arrived, I apologized for being one of the few parties still "holding them up". They continually made my girl and I fel unwanted and they rushed us out the the door. The staff consisting of John (owner I guess) and 3-4 jezebels all talked loudly about what they were going to do when they left here. At one point one of the girls gesturing hurry up. My girls mood was ruin and so was mine. there was no derert offered, just a check once our entrees where lifted. I never felt like my business was so unappreciated EVER. I've managed restaurants in Philly, I know how to accommodate patrons. Tonight, I felt more like I accommodated the staff by letting them leave in a hurry than the business accommodated our business. PITIFUL. I would LOVE an apology for the terrible service and my money back because I should have never left 20% tip to that service, but I have more class than that, just would have like to visit a place that had class enough to take care of their customers and treat them better than we were treated tonight. I felt like they were doing me a favor by allowing me to breath in their establishment. I was furious and I still am. My girlfriend never got to enjoy her birthday dinner. Will Scanicchio's attempt to rectify this matter at all? because if I was the manager and a customer was this unhappy I would have been fired. I would never let someone be treated the was we were tonight.

Scanichios was recomended by a family member who dined here over the holidays. We were stunned very busy on a wednesday at 9 pm. we were greeted promptly by a sweet young lady. she opened our wine told us the trmendous list of specials. were were told it was good. They lied it was a GREAT ding experience. 16oz. Pork chop and broc rabi perfectly cooked and took up the whole plate. 23.95, excellent cut of meat and good value served with past on side. My vegetarian wife was well accomadated with a hhuge head of romaine grilled topped with figs and gorganzola. And for dinner a homemade wild mushroom gnocchi with an exqisite truffle cream sauce. 18.95. huge portions great sevice and atmosphere, BYOB maes it an exceptial value. and did I mention HUGE PORTIONS..

We went to Scannicchio's on the way to a concert at the Wells Fargo center. This is a small restaurant in an old corner tavern right on Broad. We had a great meal. The calamari was some of the best I have ever had and the cannoli was definitely one the tastiest ever. Diners at the next table had the dinosaur leg pork chop and raved about it. Service was fine and on a Tuesday night the place was packed. BYOB, not too expensive, and we were not rushed at all. Will return with other foodie friends.

We were treated so good by the staff that I had to hug them when I left. I'm from Maryland it was my first time there, Met my daughter n law n family there for dinner. EXCELLENT EVERYTHING!!! Very WELCOMING and accommodating can't wait to go back...THANK YOU AGAIN!!!!

The food is amazing and the staff is exceptional! No matter what you order it's amazing especially the chocolate dessert!!!!

This is the absolute best place to get shrimp fra diavalo....I've had it at many many places and this by far is the absolute best. Add fresh lump crabmeat to make it even better... The service is great ...And it's worth every penny.

Have eaten here over a dozen times over the years, primarily when my daughters take me to dinner for fathers day & birthday.I love italian and have tried different places with good word of mouth reps, but always end up coming back here.Excellent veal prepared in numerous ways(my favorite is the veal parm),healthy portions & moderately priced.Lobster ravioli is a favorite of my girls, and their steak is also very good. When ordering appetizers DO NOT forget the clams casino,Very good and a decent portion.Delicious deserts that nomatter what you choose you will enjoy. This place is a BYOB,and if you are scheduled for a sportig event, they are five minutes from stadiums.Ample metered parking, and if stuck for spot and you are from out of town, park in the middle of Broad st. which is a south philly tradition and no tickets issued.(old school)

With so many great spots in philly, why bother as service is efficient, the staff attitude says "do you belong " and "hurry up and order" and don't ask questions " Old and tired🙁 That being said, you can't beat the stuffed artichokes.

I frequent this restaurant before sporting events as the Philly Sports arenas are close by. This is the second time that I had been there this year. For the first time, unfortunately, it felt tired, and was not ready for serving it's customers. The restaurant management was not friendly, I'd even say uninviting. The food was average, and I felt a little rushed. While the server wasn't unfriendly, management was less than friendly. The door was locked when we got there, and they did not let us in until we proved that we had made a reservation. I had the steak big John, which is supposed to be "Their Signature Steak"... I've had it before a couple years back and thought it would be excellent. Tonight it had lots of grizzle was undercooked and generally speaking... it was bland. Hardly worth $20, much less the $30.95 they charge. My daughter complained the meatballs were ordinary… I tasted them and couldn't disagree with her. The next time I take a client to a Flyers game or Phillies game, I will reconsider as there are many more locations just as close that have menus that I can count on. Sorry to tell you will no longer recommend this restauraunt .

My son raved about this place, which is why we went. Can't say that the place appealed to me from the get-go, but I persevered, especially since, without a reservation we got the last table. The hostess was very friendly, but the waiter, Marco or Mario, was very matter-of-fact and rattled off the specials as if we have photographic memory. We shrugged it off, although we did order one of the special appetizers -- an eggplant pyramid of breaded and fried eggplant interspersed with bufalo mozzarella cheese, Jersey tomatoes, basil-- served on a bed of mixed baby greens and drizzled with balsamic vinegar. I was surprised at the yawn-boring run-of-the-mill Italian menu, and that no pasta was home-made, which I mentioned to the waiter. He then seemed to remember that they do have one home-made pasta -- portobello mushroom ravioli with broccoli rabe in a light cream sauce, which I ordered. I prefer my pasta cooked a bit more than al dente, but since I didn't specify, I can't complain that it was served al dente. My husband ordered a Sicilian variation of chicken or something which was served with sausage pieces. I enjoyed my ravioli and my husband enjoyed his chicken dish, which had a side of penne in marinara, a bit too sweet for his taste. When we first sat down, warm bread was served in a basket, but it wasn't what I like, it was too airy. The bruschetta mixture (I only call it that because I don't know how else to describe it) was very tasty. It was a mix of marinated vegetables in tiny cubes-- eggplant, olives, onion, tomato, capers and I'm not sure what else. It was quite tasty. All in all, the meal was ok, but I was especially disappointed to see that different customers were treated differently. The two men next to us, and a mixed group to the side of 6 or more, all were served little glasses of limoncello at the end. The men next to us commented that it was very tasty, pineapple flavored. We, however, were not brought any, nor were we offered any. I would have liked to taste it. There are plenty of other restaurants in the area that we haven't yet tried, so this is not one we'd be rushing to get back to.

We made reservations for 12 for dinner following the Army/Navy football game. We arrived about 15 minutes early to a packed house with a few extra friends. We were greeted warmly and invited to have a seat at the bar and assured our table would be ready shortly. The additional guests (3) in our party were accommodated without any fuss and we were seated by 8:10. Throughout the evening the service was warm, friendly and very attentive. They saved us part way through our visit when we ran low on wine because it is a BYOB place and directed us to a nearby resupply store. The food was great classic Italian. They even had "Ravioli Fritti" which we have only seen as "Toasted Ravioli" in St. Louis. Overall it was a wonderful, fun evening. I am looking forward to visiting again on our next visit to Phillie.

We were able to get an early Saturday night reservation at 5:30pm. We were sat right away. Our waitress was friendly and aand helpful with our order.

Ordered the "special" stuffed veal chop which was chewey and the stuffing of spinach, cheese and prusciotto had ONLY spinach. The steak was too tough for my grandchildren to eat. All this and the prices were outrageous. Do not go.

So you read the Laban review in the Inquirer, and put this restaurant on your list; we did the same; glad we went; would we go again: yes; each dish hit the right note, with a friendly attentive staff, how can you go wrong? Bring a decent bottle of vino, or two

Had dinner here as a double date. Typical bring your own in south philly. Service was pretty good, and the menu was interesting compared to most other italian joints. The date appetizer, not on the menu, is a must try. The meals were all tasty and the marinara was average. Everything that we received at the table, however, was overly salty. When I pointed this out to the waiter, he made a comment and blamed it on the cheese. Wont be going back anytime soon.

We were a large group of 10 on a Saturday 6:00 PM seating. The ambiance is nothing to boast about although it was very clean and crowded. Our servers were attentive and friendly and more than willing to satisfy with some special requests. The food was out of this world! I hade the Brannzino (sp?) . It was in a wonderful melody of flavors. All ten of us were absolutely satisfied. I have been to many city restaurants, many of them Italian, and this tops them all. My husband and I make our own sauce and rarely experience "very good" red sauce. He was amazed. We will definitely be returning.

A group of us went to this venerable restaurant expecting the best. We were not disappointed! I had excellent shrimp scampi over linguine and a fresh caprese salad. I was also delighted to try the sausage and figs; I was skeptical at first but became a fan immediately.

I love Italian food - who doesn't? This is becoming one of my favorite. The Pasta I enjoyed at my last visit was as good as any I have had in Italy. We spent 3 hours here during our last visit. Cant wait to return.

A warm, small Italian restaurant in South Philly. Our kind of place where you can dress up or dress down as we do. I had a lightly breaded white fish that was yummy. My husband had a double pork chop on a bed of broccoli rabe and our daughter had her usual chicken parm. Everything was very good. Service was a little slow but it's a BYOB so who cares!!! We'd definitely go back.

What a find. Mrs. M and I are Phanatics and often drive from South Jersey into South Philly for a pregame meal. We recently went to a Saturday night game and couldn't get down Passyunk Ave. because of a festival. We gave up on that but decided to drive down Broad on the chance that we might find something before resigning ourselves to ballpark food. I spotted this little place and the food gods gave us a great parking spot so we went on in. It was busy and we didn't have a reservation but they were very nice and we decided to eat at the bar. We relaxed while we waited chatting with one of the owners about the Phillies and deer hunting in Central Pennsylvania, then enjoyed our wonderful meal. The Phillies lost again but we won by adding this wonderful place to our list of possible stops. So, skip the Schmitter and stop here with a bottle of wine. It will make watching this year's baseball a lot more enjoyable.

Our family reunion ate dinner here. They had arranged a wonderful set menu for the 25 of us. The menu included appetizers, soup, Caesar salad, main course and an awesome cheese cake. You can bring your own beer and wine which they will serve with no corkage fee. The restaurant is small but the staff were plentiful and did a fabulous job of serving us all at the same time. The family loved particularly the escarole and fava beans, the tilapia, and the caesar salad, although everything was very good. We were all quite full by the end of the meal. This is a great example of South Philly Italian dinning.

To start i want to say that the food, the service ( waitress and hostess ) were great. My wife and I had made reservations for a Saturday night dinner. When we entered the restaurant there were a few large groups leaving. We were waiting near the bar area to be seated. My wife was approached by a person wearing a baseball cap and a white frock, Chef ? possibly,. This man had no personality , he asked my wife if we had reservations and she answered that we had and gave our last name. He responded is there a first name? She answered with my first name and he repeated the name and mumbled something that was incoherent and either one of us could understand. I'm thinking its highly unlikely that there would be more then one reservation for a specific time under our last name? We were then seated by a lovely young lady, and afterward had a great dinner and excellent waitress service. So if you go and are greeted by the fellow in the baseball cap, be prepared for a rude reception, but luckily it does get better.

What a great restaurant! There were seven of us and everyone raves about their appetizers and meals. Definitely a very special place. Food and service was fabulous It is a BYOB which was really neat. If you’re in Philly, love great food, local ambiance and attention to detail, give it a shot. Bring your own favorite wine and the will happily de-cork!

Caesar salad was excellent, one of the best I've ever had. Clams Casino were tasty, but all breadcrumbs and no clams. The stuffed squash blossom special was good, but only 3 small blossoms, and a big sticker shock when the bill came and saw they were $16.95. Not worth it. Chicken parrm was huge and delicious, gravy was fantastic, but side pasta was boring ziti. Shrimp Fra Diavlo was nice and spicy, big shrimp, boxed linguini. Portion sizes of the mains were huge, enough parm and pasta for another meal. Food was good, just a little pricey, over $100 for 2, and no alcohol. Which brings me to the service. Our waiter was pleasant, as was the bartender. The female server who took our drink order was surely. I brought some gin, and asked for some tonic as a mixer. She said she'd get me club soda, no tonic. I ordered a Sprite instead, but when I asked for some lime, she smirked and told me "we're not a Mexican restaurant". Oh, I guess I was confused, or stupid. I asked for lemon. When the hot starters came 2 minutes after the sald, I asked if she could ask the kitchen to hold off on firing the entrees for a few minutes. She replied "the appetizers come before the entrees" and walked away. Wow, thanks for clarifying, it's my first time eating out. Probably why I made the rookie mistake of asking for an exotic fruit that is exclusive to mexican restaurants... Considering we were the only patrons until we were almost finished our meal, I was surprised and put off that she had such an attitude. I would have addressed it then and there, but my husband asked me not to, and since there was a group of employees clustered in the back of the place, watching us and chatting with each other throughout our meal, I kept my mouth shut. It was difficult. The only reason we left a generous tip was because our waiter was decent and friendly, and I knew that business was going to be very slow considering the current covid19 situation.

The veal parmigiana was large and delicious. Very generour portions - my daughters split a chicken parm and were both full. We ordered the meatball appetizer (a special) and it was tasty but not worth $13 for three meatballs. Shame on us for not asking the price. Excellent service.

This place is truely impressive. The friendly hostess. Being seated promptly on a busy evening. The fresh decor of flowers. The knoeledgeable waiter with the impressive special list. the chef who executed on all angles.. Starters the sausage and fig special, perfect blend of flavor. I was just wondering how they got figs so early in the season. (they get them from chile in the off season I was told.) excellent dish. Clams casino tasty and fresh.. Tuna and arugula salad. well dressed and perfectly seared tuna. The huge stuffed veal chop. 16oz. before it was stuffed the waited said. Tasty perfectly cooked. My other guests also enjoyed the Huge well prepared, chicken parm, and chilean sea bass over truffled risotto. we finished with cappuchino ( not as hot as i would expect) but tasty. we shared choc peanut butter bread pudding and cannoli dressed with lots of fresh fruit.. All resonably priced. orange flaverd limonchello was served complimentary as we enjoyed our desert.

This is our 2nd time at this restaurant. We shared 3 of the apps that were specials. Fried meatballs, brasciole and beet salad - all were delicious. Our dinner entrees consisted of Veal Florentine, Shrimp franchaise with risotto, chicken franchaise and chicken arugala. Everything was absolutely spectacular. Will definitely go back again. YUM!!!

We went to Scannicchio’s with our family before the holidays and enjoyed a terrific dinner. The restaurant is quite small but they were able to accommodate our party of 10. Everyone loved their food. The restaurant is BYOB so we saved on the cost of wine. They prefer payment in cash but will accept credit cards with a 3% surcharge added. I highly recommend this restaurant for lovers of Italian cuisine.

As a repeat customer to this place I was truely wowed again!! Here for a holiday dinner with family. We were treated like family as we walked in. To the second we left. They had all the true 7 fish dinner fishes available. we had them all.. Baccala salad, fried smelts, stuffed calmari,bronnzino..to name a few. All cooked to perfection! my bro-in law had the sausage and figs special it was awesome.(so we ordered more so everyone can taste). and stuffed veal chop. It was truely the best and freshest seafood preparations I have ever tasted. For desert we had pistaccio cannoli. Never having this before we ordered 3, for the table. The were to die for. We inquired were they came up with this. The waiter said it was the chef/owners creation. Festively decorated for the holidays. It was a memorable holiday family dinner. A rare find in South Philly. Buone Natale!

OK so this is what one should expect when they go to south Philly for Italian Food!! Scannicchio's sets the bar and they set it high! This was our first time here and we are glad we found it! Great place, intimate maybe 15-20 tables with a great friendly and accommodating staff! The menu is amazing and the food is outstanding. They are BYOB so that makes it even better. The Italian food tastes very authentic and homemade. The Penne alla vodka was amazing the sauce was excellent and the pasta cooked to a perfect al dente texture. Do yourself a favor and add the grilled butterfly shrimp it is well worth it and there was a good portion of them. The portions are pretty big so you will have something to take home or if you are up to the challenge, you may need to come in a pants size larger than your norm! The Dates stuffed with sausage and cheese served on blanched spinach with a balsamic drizzle was an amazing appetizer. Finished with house made Tiramisu that was heavenly. I highly recommend Scannicchio’s but would recommend making reservations they fill up FAST and once your there you will see why. Outstanding job Scannicchio’s!!

Great authentic Italian food in the heart of South Philadelphia - Perfect spot before or after a concert or ball game.

We were in town for a business trip and had a large group wanting to meet up for dinner. The restaurant is on the corner of Broad Street but is very unassuming. However, the ambiance, service and most importantly the food are out of this world. The staff were so friendly and helpful and make wonderful suggestions for dinner and dessert. Make sure to ask for the pork chop with fresh fig; it's not on the menu but you definitely want to order this entree. Would also highly recommend the lobster ravioli. The dessert options are just as plentiful but almost all of our party ordered the peanut butter ice cream with a caramel core dipped in chocolate and were we all happy that was our choice. One of the best deserts any of us have ever had. Days later and we are still talking about our meal! The restaurant is BYOB so make sure to bring some wine along for dinner. Highly recommend making this a choice for dinner when you're in Philly.

From the outside this non-descript building does not impress but once inside be prepared to enjoy some of the best Italian dishes in the city. This BYO restaurant has two main sittings; 7pm and 9pm. On weekends it is wise to have a reservation. We enjoyed the veal chop; meaty and moist, stuffed with spinach and gorgonzola. Others at our table enjoyed various chicken and veal dishes. No one was dissappointed. The place is definitely worth the drive down Braod Street from center City.

We made a reservation for 6 after a concert in the area. We were 15 min late. They were very understanding and accommodating. They sent us a special appetizer which wasn't on the menu, it was on the house and we couldn't have been more surprised. It was as if they knew how stressed we were trying to get there on time. They corked our wine, helped us relax, and couldn't do enough for us. From the time we walked in until the time we left, we were treated like family. I wish this restaurant was closer to home. I understand its hard to get a seat here on the weekend, glad we made the reservation. Will be back next time we are in the area. Love this place!!

Scannichio's is the real thing. It an authentic South Philly ItalianRestaurant. The service is great with a wonderful selection of food. Don't forget to try Sausage with Figs and the Cacciatori. It's convenient to eat before the sporting events, but make a reservation.

I can't lie - my husband and I have been here many times. Each time we experience the same wonderful and delicious meals and the same attentive and warm service. The 'specials' are always different and beautifully done and the varied menu offers something for everyone. If you need something special we have found them accommodating and helpful. A family owned treasure, thankfully in our 'back yard'. BYOB (no corking fee here!)

For our 10th Anniversary, my wife was expecting a trip to the Bahamas or Hawaii. Instead, she got a Phillies game with me. But before we got there, we stopped by Scanicchio's for dinner. It was good enough that she put off calling the divorce attorney. My wife comes from an Italian family, and she loves going to Italian places. This place was her idea of heaven. Its a small, but cozy, BYOB with delicious food. Both my wife and I loved everything - Chicken Piccata for me, and Penne Vodka for the wife. Being married to me is a chore. I am surprised she lasted 10 years so far. I think this place bought me another couple years!

This place is right on the corner of Broad St. Parking is rough. It's worth the effort. We stopped here right before the NCAA tournament games on a Friday. Service was great. We had an assortment. Meatballs and broccoli rabe as well as spicy calamari appys were unbelievable. Most of us had some veal variation (saltimbocca, piccata etc). Fantastic. I was very impressed.

Friendly staff. Accommodating very friendly. Food was good. Everything ala.carte which is a negative for me BYOB Always a hit with that

When we first went to Scannicho's several years ago, we enjoyed our meals as well as the service. Over the past couple of years however our dining experiences there have not been so positive. When you call for reservations you are told how long you will have the table for, which is not a great first impression for a restaurant. The staff is not very welcoming and you are rushed to finish your dinner, even if you have waited a while to be served. The last time we were there a few months ago the waiter was extremely rude. He rattled off the specials without making eye contact with us. He never came back to the table after our meal was served to ask if we were pleased. When serving dessert, he threw spoons and forks on the table. The food isn't bad, but with all the other great Italian restaurants in Philly to choose from, Scannicchio's would by no means be my first choice.

I went with a table of 10 for a birthday. I had ordered the Bronzino originally but unfortunately was told they ran out. (At 7:30????) So I had to chose something else which was the lobster ravioli. I found it to be very salty and kind of lacking any flavor. They did not serve any soup or salad with the meal. A small piece of very hard bread was at the table. They also forgot to bring out appetizers that were ordered by some of the women at my table which they apologized for forgetting when we told them while they were bringing our meals out. The waitress wasn't very happy or overly attentive to any of us. If this place works for many, then I must have definitely gone on a bad night! I wouldn't go back nor would I recommend this place to anyone.

This is my families go-to restaurant in Philly. The prices are very reasonable ($15 for chicken parm the size of a large plate with a side of pasta). The food is out of this world. Never had any problems with the staff. Very nice atmosphere, yummy appetizers & good deserts. 1 app, 2 entrees and 1 desert for under $50. Winner in my eyes!!

Went with friends and was my first time. Had rice ball and meatball appetizers, which were good. The meatballs were a little overcooked in my opinion but still tasted good. I had penne with tomato sauce and jumbo lump crab. I asked for diavalo style and they flake accommodated. Mine meal tasted great. Others had veal parmesan, veal rack and also crab, shrimp and scallops in tomato sauce. All very much like their entrees. For dessert, two of us had the lemoncello gelato, which was incredible. Another had the fresh canoli and loved it. It's a byob. Recommended.

We made reservations for Friday night before going to a concert and they were vert accommodating in holding our table since we called to say we we're stuck in traffic and would be late. We were an hour late. The stuffed mussels one of their specials that night were amazing. All of the dishes we ordered were very good. The service was very good. They made good recommendations regarding how to best get to the concert and told us about the xfinity bar by the Wells Fargo arena. We had a great meal and would come back next time we return to philly.

Its been a while i've known this restaurant for ages and even was a regular when there was the AC Restaurant but been on my 'putting of but MUST GO" lately list. Well being the age of covid like everyone are doing the delivery route and let me tell you they are still awesome and did not disappoint.. Got the special chicken parm w/their to die for Best i've tasted Caesar Salad and side of pasta pene w/cream blush type sauce. Great meal and also the owner was so kind that when there was a bit of a mix up he called me and told me he was sending another dish over the next day..with his apologies.. i said not necessary..but he insisted and Sent the whole meal again!! Who does that.. pretty good guy!! A must try is the pork Chop.. eggplant & veal, Chicken parm..Ravioli as well as fish and beef entrees..its a relaxed but still formal for impressing friends, family or out of towners..for that old time Italian feel. pre covid were open for lunch and of course a bar / byob. We actually when my dad passed years ago made this our after services sit down restaurant and everyone was impressed and enjoyed. Also their desserts were delicious esp Tiramisu.. they give you a lot of food..and love the atmosphere..cant wait to get back to normal and actually sit down and dine.. didn't think i'd feel like this a luxury i truly miss in this crazy time. Thanks again Michael for being so kind with the second surprise dinner..

My husband and I are Italian and have been to Italy several times! This place is as close to authentic Italian as you can get!! The Italian meatball appetizer brought me memories of my grandmothers house where we had crispy fried meatballs that tasted just as good. Eggplant tower to die for!! And the salmon special was pesto crusted with shrimp, asparagus and linguini could not have been better. I can't praise this restaurant enough. I own an apartment in Brooklyn and have been unable to find Italian food this good AND this reasonably priced. I will definately be coming back soon.

Scannicchio's is a good South Philly Italian BYOB restaurant. We ate there before going to a Phillies game. The food was very good and the portions were very large. I would have taken my remaining dinner home if we had not been going to the baseball game. There is usually parking available along Broad Street. It was good value all around.

My Italian Famiglia has gone here for years we go several times a year - Fantastic Dishes, Quality, Portions, Staff & value! When in Philly treat yourself!

Recently revisited Scannicchios, By far one of the best restaurants in the South Philly area. The food and service are impeccable, on a recent Wednesday the restaurant was fairly busy but the service, and food was perfect. I had the whole stuffed Artichoke a Cesar salad, dressed perfect, and a pork chop toped with a Sicilian sauce. Others in my party had chicken picante, very good and tender, and penne vodka, the best vodka sauce around. I highly recommend this great BYOB!

Went last Sunday evening. Made reservations about a week ahead for my birthday. Was told we had to be out by 5:30 (reservation at 4). Decided to get there a little early so we would not be rushed. Unfortunately, their website says they open at 3:30, but they did not open their door till 4. We sat outside with quite a few other guests with the same idea. Every table was sat at once. We asked to put our apps in first, but were told we were not allowed. We finally got our order in and as our apps we chose the clams casino (good) and the balsamic glazed sausage with figs (sausage tasted a day or 2 old sitting in a pool of balsamic vinegar.) Would have been better with a lesser amount of fresh sausage sliced with a little bit of a balsamic reduction and figs. It was 5:10 and still no dinner. Said something to the blonde waitress, and she checked.... said we did not have to leave at 5:30! My husband had the pork which was good. I had the seafood pasta which had over cooked shrimp and rubbery, fishy calamari. My husband asked to have a candle in the dessert we were going to order, but the blonde waitress threw a cannoli with whipped cream all over it on our table and said it was for our troubles. No candle or nothing! Ate the cannoli, because I was hungry from a bad meal, and ordered a creme brulee, which also was covered with whipped cream! Why! Isn’t cracking though that crystallized sugar enough? I learned how to cook in Philly, and worked in numerous restaurants in south Philly and Old City many years ago. We own a restaurant and catering business, and know good food and service. Been in business 30+ years. Have enjoyed their sister restaurant in AC years ago, and was hoping it would be close. Horrible birthday experience, majority of food unpalatable, and very rude staff. Never going back... beware!

Love this restaurant! It's a great BYOB. Always a nice time. From the ambiance to the hospitality very nicely done. A lot of great dishes to choose from.👍💕 Our Thanksgiving was so delicious and peaceful. Not rushed. Great food and conversation. What else could anyone ask for?

Philadelphia is known for its Italian restaurants. Too often, however, they are becoming high priced fancy places. Scannicchio's is a refreshing reminder of how it should be. Small, cozy, BYO, and awesome food. It is noisy on a Saturday, but this shows how much of a good time people are having. Prices are very reasonable and the variety of the specials is impressive. Try it!

This restaurant was recommended to us by people who drive there from CT just to have dinner. The menu has so many choices of really hard to choose from entrees. One of the most delicious things I've ever tasted is their stuffed artichoke. Its served warm with its leaves filled with tasty breadcrumbs, and covered in melted garlic butter. The manicotti is filled with the creamiest cheese and a perfect marinara sauce. The only disappointment was the clams casino. Each shell was filled with a bready seafood mix, but there was no clam to be found under all that stuffing. I would love to dine there again, but I'll skip the clams.

Food here overall is average.....veal was in a nice sauce but was overcooked, fettuccini Alfredo sauce was congealed, broccoli rabe so overcooked it was unrecognizable. Fried scungilli...... We've had better elsewhere...portion was small and looked like we got the last portion in the restaurant..all the leftover pieces. The stuffed artichoke was nice.....we found ourselves eating it with our fingers and getting every last bit of the garlic butter sauce with our bread. The gnocchi was also delicious...light and airy in a wonderful Gorgonzola sauce. Desserts are variable....chocolate cake with a peanut butter mousse looked great but was dry and tasteless; while a mud pie frozen dessert was wonderful. Wish we had cannoli.... But they ran out of shells the night before......... The wait staff is just so pleasant and friendly , and its BYOB.....so you can bring your favorite wines and they are happy to keep it chilled. We had a nice, relaxed time in this white-tablecloth room, but wouldn't go back.....there are too many other Italian restaurants in south Philly with high marks to try. Besides....someone needs to go back into the kitchen and find out what's going on with that veal....no reason to be overcooked and dry on a slow Sunday evening.

Dined here on a very festive New Years Eve night had the later seating 930. Service was welcoming easy going, never rushed and actually encouraged to stay with staff and family for champagne toast and midnight fireworks. The full everyday Menu was available, so we were not forced to pay a premium for our time slot. They offerd Surf and Turf, Veal Chop, whole Bronzino, and a few other premium items that we as a group of 8 Indulged in. and a few of us went for the menu classics like the stuffed calamari, and the seafood 7 fish alla scannichio. Cant wait to go back. And we also made a reservation for Next New Years Eve as we left on the Chef/owner Chris recomendation. We do so!. Its always a Party at midnight!!

The meal started off with fig salads with gorgonzola cheese, pancetta, arugala with a balsamic dressing - which was delicious. I had the shrimp francaise with risotto - it was excellent. The lemon from the francaise wondered onto the risotto and was out of this world. My husband had the eggplant parm with spaghetti which was delicious too. My friend's husband had the lobster and shrimp ravioli - which were also yummy. My girlfriend had the gnocchi - she also said they were delicious. Lastly we had the pizzell with hazelnut ice cream dessert. It was spectacular and perfect ending to a delicious meal. Service was top notch too.

Food and service were both great! Very nice atmosphere. Nice variety of specials. Eggplant tower appetizers was seasoned just right. Had linguini and clams for entree which could not have been any better. Chocolate peanut butter desert was big enough for 2. Staff was very attentive!

Haven't been here in a while but thought it a good place to take the family for a taste of South Philly where you can actually find parking places on the street. The clams casino were delicious as was the Caesar salad and they actually had anchovies that were served on the side. My big disappointment was that the only veal chop was a special that was stuffed. I asked if one could just be grilled plain but the chef had already sliced and stuffed them and said the chop would not be good split and grilled. So I ordered veal francais, which was delicious. The veal was very tender and the sauce wonderful. Asked if I wanted regular pasta or pasta with oil and garlic as I side, I chose the oil and garlic and was surprised to see there was an added charge for that on the bill. Another guest had the pasta alfredo which was good. I was disappointed in the banana bread pudding dessert. It was very dense and heavy. The service was good and the waiter very knowledgeable about the many specials.

This was our favorite spot when travelling to Philly, esp. for the artichoke appetizer and the crabs and spaghetti. What a disappointment this last visit. Although the fettuccini was tender and fresh, the crab meat was almost not there. The crabmeat, when it could be found, was the size of a pea. I used to brag about the portions and size of the white crabmeat, but both my husband and I left hungry. His meatballs were dry and tasteless. For a 75.00 dinner for two, we were disappointed and will have to find another favorite.

Another amazing dinner at Scannicchio's. From the reservation to the hostess, to our waiter everything is superb. Great menu from pasta to special entrees... We will be back

Overall, it was a pleasant experience. Its a small, family-owned Italian restaurant in south Philly. I was given a recommendation to go here by a friend, because I would have never found this on my own. the food was good, as we had veal and pasta. We also had homemade dessert, specifically a cheesecake. Its not a very big place, and when we went, it was quite busy.

The food was outstanding and although we didn't ask to have a quick meal, I guess they saw our Flyers garb and sped things up for us. Everyone was nice and the place was hopping on a Tuesday as we were leaving for the game
Perfection
From the friendliness of the woman taking the reservation. To the warm greeting, a fine service, and tastefully delightful food. My family of 14 enjoyed every bit of food on the menu. And extensive special list Marco rattled off. They covered all the angles fish, pasta, meat. I had steamed artichoke. Not stuffed as they gladly obliged to make. Fabulous!! Then a stuffed veal chop spinach and cheese and Gelato. All gluten free. I tried the sausage and figs. One of the best things I ever tasted. Others tried some of the dishes. The place is known for. Stuffed calamari, and tripe. All over the moon satisfied. A real find in a restaurant. And BYO.
