Had a bowl with meat, rice, veggies....decent, but not worth coming back. Need more taste/spices. Ate at the bar, where the focus is selling drinks. OK service.

The title says it all...super attentive wait staff...range of local and international beer...and the cheese steak was unreal...ill be back!

Wonderful cute little place serving all kind of beers, cocktails and sausages (links on a plate with sauerkraut, sandwiches, hot dogs, you name it). They do say on their menu they make worlds greatest fries - and they damn right about it. Fries are thin and extra crunchy but still soft in the middle. Absolutely a must try.

beer and brats...what can be better?

I came in and ordered just a single sausage (listed on menu clearly). There was nobody in there but the service was strange from the beginning. Then it showed up with a bun on it and I thought a single maybe had that. I couldn't get my check so i left the money on the table. When I went to leave she finally woke up and actually yelled at me in the market like I didnt pay.... I told her the money was on the table, she then said something like $7.32 ! I said no I only ordered the $4.50 single and I left a 5. Did you want me to pay the difference (I was fine with that), she acted like she was mad and then said no it was ok. Clearly this person should not be in the service industry or at least get your orders right. Also paying 8 dollars for a sausage you can get for 4 or 5 at any stand is clearly too much...

We really enjoyed this restaurant and ate a million sweet potato fries and pretzels. The cheese dip for the pretzel was incredible. The mixed drinks were great and they had some more unusual options for canned and bottled beverages. I really enjoyed the peaches and cream shooter.

I used to frequent Schultzy's back when it was just a small sausage counter circa 1989/1990. While in Seattle with my son I figured that we'd swing by for lunch after visiting the UW. It was nice to run into Don out watering the plants in-front of the (significantly expanded) restaurant just prior to opening. Of course I had to have a brat, and, being from the Gulf Coast, my son had to try the andouille (along with a local ale). Both sausages were excellent, and their fries really were amazingly good as well (similar to what we've had at Thomas Keller's Bouchon). It's nice to see that Schultzy's has maintained the same commitment to quality over the intervening decades. My (notoriously picky) son also enjoyed the local ale. A great food experience, very conveniently situated (paid parking across the street), and very reasonably priced. Thanks Don!

Having lived in Seattle ten years ago, I fell in love with this restaurant back then. It's the first place I visit when I'm on vacation in the area and I've recommended countless friends to eat there if they're making a trip to the city! I always get a thanks and a thumbs up when they do! The vibe is always energised with a friendly staff ready to welcome you and just thinking of the food and beer puts a smile on my face; my latest dining experience was as fantastic as ever. This is a chance for me to give the owners and their crew a big thank you for the countless hours of service and fun that Schultzy's has given me and my mates over the years. :) If you've only got a few nights in the city... make sure you don't miss a brat and a stein ; you'll not be disappointed!! PROST!

We were looking for a place to grab a late lunch. We were visiting - so we were not familiar with the area. Shultzys at first glance appears to be a sports bar with a German flare. Our food was really good. The bread on our sandwiches was fresh, our salad was tasty and the fries were special! We went a little crazy and ordered the bread pudding for dessert (vacation mode) and it was fabulous. If you are looking for a clean tasty spot with great service when you are in the area - Shultzys is a good pick!

Good bar/pub food in the U-district. Good place to relax with friends in a pretty clean establishment. Standard menu: fries, sauerkraut, bratwurst or sausages, burgers, etc. Friendly service. Can get loud and crowded, but it IS by the U.....

Able to be seated right away. Found the service good but believe that a sausage with a dab of chili on a too-large bun was way overpriced. Mediocre cold slaw as a side. Probably will not return.

Great place to eat and pick up saugages to cook at home!

After scanning the reviews, I was really looking forward to this place, a casual German restaurant with great classic German comfort food. I lived 12 years in Europe and was looking forward to an escape back to memories of trips up the Rhine. The atmosphere is a good gasthaus/brathaus experience for Seattle, though the menu is missing lots of traditional gasthaus/brathaus-type food (keine Schweinshaxe!). It may be lacking in proper German food, but you can get cheesesteak sandwiches, gumbo, beef/chicken/veggie burgers, and southern fried chicken wings. *sigh* The German beer selection is the widest I can remember seeing outside of Germany, isolating just the German beer would be an easy 5 stars. I had the German Bratwurst Plate. The sauerkraut was lacking that fresh, vinegar tasting bite that cuts through the fat, and was lacking the crisp contrasting texture against soft bratwurst and warm potato salad. I struggled to find something redeeming about the bratwurst... I can only describe it as ground pork (maybe a bit of beef) in sausage casing. The taste of the potato salad was on par with the cheaper potato salad in plastic containers you get at grocery stores near the deli counter. The pretzel was actually quite good, despite they most certainly have to be factory produced and likely from frozen. And please, oh please, my god please, I beg you; lose the free-range waiting staff. I can't imagine anything less productive and profitable to your bottom-line than staff not assigned to designated sections or customers, and constantly having to visit every single table to see if they can serve the customer in some way. As a customer, you generally either get huge gaps in service, or non-stop interruptions from 2-3 staff asking the same questions. This is covered in the lesson 'Restaurateur 101'. This is a great place to swing by for a wide German beer selection and some pretzels. I would suggest that the owner takes a trip to the smaller cities and villages of Germany and get inspired by the simple, traditional German food of gasthaus/brathaus/biergartens and trim down the menu. Do one thing well, and stick to it.

German beers and rotating microbrews. Brats and a large selection of different mustards. Their back porch is nice in the summer. Service is always quick.

Last night at Schultzy's was a blast! We had the best beers (you must try the Paulaner Salvator aka "liquid bread"), some juicy and flavorful sausages and an awesome time overall. Service was fantabulous. Will definitely hit that joint again.

I snuggled into this restaurant next to the fireplace on a chilly Seattle day, for lunch with a colleague. The restaurant owners greeted me cheerfully. I can't comment on the sausage, sadly - I had a vegie burger - but it was a fine, tasty vegie burger. Definitely worth a visit.

Stopped by for a quick bite to eat and their chili was very tasty and flavorful. The beer was really good as well. Great place, clean and very friendly staff.

I really enjoyed going to Shultzy' for a quick bite back when Shultzy's Sausage was a small ghetto hangout/grill. 12 years later, I'm back visiting UW and the place is now a large pub. The menu is largely the same, the food and lemonade is as good as I remember it, but Shultzy's Sausage is a whole new different place now.

As a vegetarian it's really not a place to visit although they had an ample range of burgers. I was looking for a beer/ food bar and there was nothing distasteful to report of. It looked good for the many families there and people seemed to be enjoying the NBA final in the screens. Their was a good range of beers as the German beer I tried was great. The service was more than friendly and the veggie burger I had was really good quality. The 3 stars is more because it's not somewhere I'd go back to but it was an ok experience.

Back in the late 80s Schultzy's started in a small store front for students. I loved it and went at least weekly. In the modern day it has moved down the street, grown dramatically and matured greatly. The food is still wonderful. The sparkling lemonade worth a visit all by itself. And the service is usually friendly, fast and attentive. Always worth a stop!

Staying in the university district we dined there three times and I found Schultzy a good place where is possible to find some german beers and good food. The place is warm and the staff is really kind. My favourite dish is the Pulled pork sandwich, but also the saussages are tasty. One of the best choices in the university district when you don't want to eat some etnic food, and probably the best place for those prefer german style (Lager and Pilsener) beers.

Whenever my friends and I need seomwhere to have a collective dining event, this is it. IT's reasonably priced and always a good time. We take people here for their 21st birthday dinners and they usually give the person a free Birthday Cake shot.

Awesome little place with good prices and lots of tasty sandwiches and various types of sausages. Get the fries with the cheese sauce and enjoy a beer while you are at it. Good for the entire family. Within walking distance of the UW just a few blocks down from the main UW bookstore.

Management is unyielding. Was treated very poorly upon my visit. The utter lack of respect was stunning. I would not return here if you paid me.

Great selection in beer

Best place for sausage and fine beer

We went here to watch the Packers play, had a great time with the crew and the food was delicious! No Pabst beer, a must for a WI guy watching the Pack and eating brats, but we still loved it!

i like the cole slaw

I've never been disappointed in anything here. But usually I just get the beer and maybe the sausage gumbo.

Had a great lunch and experience at Schultzy's. Stopped in on a quiet Sunday, lunch was tasty, beer was great and the staff changed the channel to what we wanted to watch (Blazers - Warriors). Very friendly bartender and wait staff, recommended.

This is essentially an American interpretation of a Munchen brauhaus. The beer selection is pretty good, I like the German beer variety. The "brat" part of the equation is a nice selection of sausages, hot dogs, sandwiches, etc. So far every sandwich and brat I have had here are pretty darn good. And the fries are excellent. I definitely enjoy visiting this place every year or so when I have a conference at the UW.

Great atmosphere, great food, and cold beer.....a few TV's and a small bar area, but lots of tables and just a great place to hang and not too loud so can carry on a conversation.

OK food, slightly slow service, not so great on the cocktails. The service was very friendly. I went there because they open up one section for chess players on Monday's, which is nice if you are a chess player. The bartender had to confirm with me how to make a Black Russian, which is a pretty common drink. They did not make it with real Kahlua. There was a slight mix up on the bill, which was quickly corrected. OK nice place, but nothing out of the ordinary.

I've been there before and the food is great. However, yesterday, it just never arrived and I eventually had to leave.

Another University Dive. Taste's good, though.

At 2am the Bartender ripped the drink out of my hand and slug it's contents against the wall. He said he was defending the bar's legality but it was one of the most aggressive and rude experiences I have ever encountered in my life at a bar. Which is crazy because I use to be a bar tender!

once agian my family and I had the opportunity to savor the great "wurst" and beer at shultzy's in the u district on university way ..this famiy owned pub with home made "wurst" and a great selction of beer is a must every time we visit seattle. true it may not be on the tourist map yet//but wait--locals love it..

They make their own sausage in-house - from bratwurst to cajun-style. They serve burgers and pulled-pork as well, but I've never had them. The sausage is too good to have anything else. They keep a good range of German beer on tap, along with an IPA or two and usually a few local taps. Full bar plus a few wines and ciders for those who are not beer fans. The fries are fantastic - borderline addictive. Service is attentive and friendly. The owner often comes around during the day and chats with customers. A very comfortable place! I usually come here at least every other week.

Nice U district bar and grill. Burger was OK, French dip was better. Arnold Palmer drink was different? Liked the shoe string fries. Seattle prices. Great server. Decent place.

UPDATE: 9-25-19 So it took them 8 months to respond to a negative review. Here is their response. Here is my recent review of Shultzy's Bar and Grill (1 star) A group of friends and I have been going here every week for the last several months and we have decided to end our patronage to Shultzy's Bar and Grill for various reasons, but mostly due to poor service, or lack of good service. When we started coming here in the beginning, service was great, the staff was fun to talk to and get to know, but recently we have had lack luster service. My personal experience includes one time when I ordered a drink and never got it. Brought it up during the next visit, and was offered a free drink. My most recent experience was tonight, 1/29/2019. The group of friends and I all sat down and did our normal thing, I ordered a drink, which came and I ordered food... which didn't come. When it was time to closeout our tab, I paid mine and then asked the server if they had written down my order. They responded that they didn't have my ticket on their notebook anymore. I then asked if they remembered me ordering the specific food items (which I repeated back what I had ordered). I told them that they never came. Their response was that I should have reminded them about my order. I shouldn't have to remind you about my order, that is why you right it down!!. Anyway.. you lost me as a customer and my group that follows me. One of my group patrons had issues with their drinks. Could not taste alcohol in it.. So with all this said and done, at the end of the night, you lost several customers in 1 fail Swoop! -Deuces ~ V

I've been coming here for 17 years since I was at the UW. I'm still convinced Shultzy's has the best sausages and cole slaw in the world. Now they've got a whole lot more on the menu too. Make sure to get the El Diablo or Ragin Cajun.

The food was excellent, we loved the German style cooking. Great beer selection and great service. Will definitely go back.

Great place and value for food and beverage on the Ave- clean, great staff, full bar, and very good pub-grub... Great staff and really a great place to gather....

tho located in the u district away from many tourists- the selectio of home made brats-made on the premises is very good the selection of the beers on tap are excellent. the service is great and the prices quite reasonable .

Fun, relaxed, casula place to get good burgers and sausages. Friendly staff. Wish the side salad was better, but the burger was excellent. Great drink selection.

I give this place an “A” for service “ and a. “B” for food. French dip was a little disappointing. Sad when the French fries are the main attraction and out shines the main course. Pretzel appetizer was smaller than expected and decent and the cheese dipping sauce was very good. Location is a plus and parking was convenient. I wouldn’t make a special trip for this place but it is a great place to hang out before a husky football game.

My son and I landed in Seattle Washington and after an entire day of travel we realized we had not eaten anything all day. We wandered up the street from the inn we're staying at and came upon Schultzy's . I had the chili with sausage red beans & gumbo. My son stayed with the traditional chicken strips and fries. We both ordered the house lemonade. We both found the food very tasty and the pub was clean and lively. Everyone was having a good time. The staff was attentive and considerate. Will go there again for shure!

This is such a lovely spot--got seated right away, had fast service with delicious and authentic food. I was instantly excited to see a beer I had when I was a German exchange student. Love the decor throughout paying homage to UW as well. Super cozy and I would definitely come back.

Sandwiches can be messy - too much sausage and stuff for the bun - but when you get the right proportion of each - heaven. Preferred it when it was a tiny place with stools.

Schultzy's used to be a hole in the wall sausage joint a block or so north on the Ave... Now it is a large restaurant (bar [21 and over] after 9 PM) serving great beer and good food. I was here before a Husky football game...with my 16 year old son. A great place if you need to pre-game with a minor. ;-) I could enjoy my 1 Liter German Hefeweizen ($10) and my Ragin' Cajun sausage ($11) with my son while he drank his Sprite and enjoyed his cheeseburger ($11). The service was good and the guy taking names and seating people at the front of the restaurant was on the spot. AMEX is not accepted. I'll be back for another pre-game...

Used to go there twice a week when I was in grad.school. Still go back there when I visit Seattle. Fries are well seasoned. Burgers or sausages are cooked to perfection. I've had my shares of sausages, both in the U.S. and Germany. Schultzy's is at the top of the list for me.

Ok brats - hit & miss.

Delicious burgers and cheese steaks. Slick No-touch ordering. Lively atmosphere. Quick, easy and good food. Perfect for a family visiting UW.

I've been here for lunch and dinner. Love their sausages and they have a good selection of beer. It's great comfort food and it's always warm and inviting. Will definitely go again.

Went in a few days ago with some friends. The bartender was extremely disrespectful to one of my friends. Worst bartender I've ever experienced. Will not be coming back.

Good food but poor service, I would not recommend if you are looking for a quick fix, or if you are impatient.

After living in Wisconsin most of my life, I obviously found Seattle to be lacking in Italian Sausage. It's not the greatest, but I'd recommend it to other like-minded Midwest transplants.

If your travels take you to the U District, this place is a must. A great selection of beers that changes over time, and sausage meals (both sandwiches and entrees) that are terrific. Are there other places to have a beer? Sure, but Schultzy's is a must. Prepare to leave FULL.

Bunch of co workers went here before a Husky Game and everyone said there food was awesome. The only complaints were we left to early as there wasn't a lot to do pre game at the stadium and this was a much better place to pre drink and eat.

you want a good sausage? THIS is the place. And their french fries are simply the best in Seattle.

This restaurant was great in terms of all the food it provided...one thing to keep in mind though, if you're looking for traditional German food this might not be for you....this restaurant is more like the stereotypical Americanized version of German food however, it still tastes great!

This was a pleasant find in the U-District. The flood was excellent and had a good range of selections. Very friendly to adults and those underage. Our server was great and helped us make great decisions on what to eat and drink.

Good for a beer and related bar-food.

Close to the University of Washington, the theme and emphasis is Wasington Husky sports. It's a very well-executed sports bar/pub with fast service, quality food and an unexpectedly creative menu.. Cheesesteaks are made with very thinly sliced ribeye (just like Philly) and the sausages are first rate. The shoestring fries were exceptional. They have German beers on tap and the drink menu gives an accurate description of each brew. Had I ordered a larger beer I'm sure my overall rating would have been excellent, vice very good.

Great ambiance, wonderful menu, just don't bring your kids. There's no changing tables in the bathrooms and no high chairs were available when we visited. The staff was nice and the menu seemed fair priced and the ambiance was fantastic. We left, however, because the facilities for children were not anywhere to be found.

I had Schultzy when I was in college and I come here whenever I can when I am in town. Greatest sausage and very nice beer selection, and great service. It's a fantastic place to hang out

This is definitely one of those college town bar experience place. It has fairly decent happy hour menu with lots of sausage option (as you can tell from the name of the restaurant). For bar, it is good, for bar-food, it is good...for really a "restaurant", probably not the atmosphere you seek.

Staying in Hotel nearby trying to find something other than Asian food. This restaurant features German food and Beer. My daughter looked for something more American on the menu and ordered the chicken sandwhich she said it was good. I opted for the Brat, german potato salad, and Pretzel combo. The German potato salad was fantastic, and I enjoyed this very large Pretzel, the Brat was well cooked and Mustard of all varieties were right there on the table. There was what seemed to be a strange veggy combo hiding under the Pretzel but once I tasted it was apparent they were pickled they fit right into this meal. My daughter was also happy to report the Sweet Tea was really Sweet Tea (our waiter from Texas told her she wouldn't be disappointed). Talking about the waiter I should add the staff was great.

The food is good, but just takes too damn long. Not a good thing especially when you only have a hour break until your next class. If you're a fan of German beer this is the spot I guess. But you get serious food coma after coming out of this place.

I went looking for great beer, and the brewery up the street was packed so I stopped in here. Great selection of German beers, and fairly large tap list, including some American beers. Service was quick and friendly. I had a mushroom-swiss burger and it was great-- not overly sauced, all the fix-ins. The fries were super crisp.

We were drawn in simply by the smell from the street. We were just walking around checking out the university. What a great little spot! Our food was really great too! I had the Cheddar Dog as I was looking for something lighter and my boyfriend had the Cheddar and Mushroom Cheesesteak. The fries were great, everything was great! There was even good beer for Octoberfest. We'd go back!!

Nabbed this off the internet when we were filling some time with our son before a flight. We drove thru the Huskies beautiful campus and then grabbed lunch here. Parking right across the street and had a great aports vibe. Cheesesteak with mushrooms was divine and they aren’t kidding about their BEST FRENCH FRIES IN THE WORLD!
Great Burger and Chili
Had lunch here with a friend. Great burger and chili. The fries are very thin and crispy-- love that. (side note: The title of this place in TripAdvisor is spelled wrong. There is no "c" in the name: Shultzy's Bar & Grill -- that's who they spell it on the front of the building -- see my photo.)
