Went for breakfast and found the place mostly empty and without atmosphere. Food was a bit toward the greasy spoon variety and service was sometimes slow despite me being the only customer.

This is our go-to place when we go to Portland. It's in NE Portland and not trendy or crowded, at least not when we go. There is good beer, wine and food and children are welcome.

I and the family go there fairly regularly for brunch on Sundays. It can get busy later in the day, but there are tables on the sidewalk for the sunny days and plenty of seating indoors. Rarely have to wait more then 10 minutes. SCONES!!! They serve scones with every meal and they are great. Service is friendly and the menu is diverse enough that repeat visits are necessary. The highlight is the food. Great food, great coffee and a nice casual atmosphere.

The restaurant is at 4100 SE Division St. We ate here with family. The meatloaf was one of the best I've ever had in a restaurant. Others had the fried chicken and the ribs, one vegetarian. They also have a childrens' menu. The vegetables and mashed potatoes were delicious. The place is casual and has a full bar. We have eaten there several times on our visits to Portland. It is a neighborhood restaurant and the food is really delicious.

We came back again with four adults, one of whom is a vegetarian. We also had a toddler with us. They had a special menu for children. The fish was delicious and everyone who likes fried chicken really likes theirs. The restaurant is family friendly, but not fancy.

Pancakes, SO huge and fluffy that they fill the entire plate (its oversized) as well as the best steak and eggs and eggs benny, not to mention the terrific service and seasonal outdoor seating in a relaxed neighbourhood setting.

We were especially impressed with the wonderful service at this restaurant. We arrived with 3 adults and a squirrelly 2 1/2 year boy and they treated us so nicely. The food was excellent...my husband ordered huevos rancheros, I ordered the vegetable scramble and my daughter ordered chicken fingers and fries. The server brought warm, wonderful scones while we waited for our order. They were very accommodating with our toddler and made several children's menu suggestions. Very large portions and reasonable prices.

Stopped in for breakfast this morning. 2 other tables were occupied besides ours. We were never greeted. No one around. So we sat at one of the many empty tables. Finally server came over and plunked down a couple glasses of water and walked away without a word. Ok - everybody has a bad morning once in a while. After a few minutes I flagged her down as she swept the floor and asked her for menus. They were brought to our table without a word. She came back and finally asked us if we'd like coffee. Hey- that seemed promising! It took a while but she finally returned for our orders. Now I have nothing against servers not writing an order down. If they serve me what I ordered. All I asked was for hollandaise on the side. Of course the plate came out with sauce on the Benedicts. I like to sauce them myself cuz they always put too much on. And for pete's sake, if you're gonna have several versions of Eggs Benedict on your menu, make sure your kitchen staff knows how to properly poach an egg and toast an English muffin. Also please make sure they season the food - and cook the potatoes through. Potatoes taste gross when they're raw in middle. Hospital food tasted better. Took the whole thing home and tried to doctor it up a bit with seasonings & herbs and finish cooking potatoes. I HATE wasting food! So - hopefully we just hit this place on a bad day (Tues) Because if this is how they roll, they're doomed. P.S. First time EVER I left less than a 20% tip - and not because of the lousy food (that's out of server's control).

I wish I could write an "A" review of this sweet restaurant. Service is way beyond good. They will refrigerate a brought-from-home birthday dessert and deliver it to your table, candles aflame even if they have to turn off the room fans to light the candles. The mood of the place is perfect for families. The first time we visited, last June, the food was good. But this time, not. There were exceptions: we enjoyed the caesar salad, French dips, and the "fish" part of fish and chips. French fries, which we all ordered, were greasy and not crisp. The coleslaw served with fish and chips was dry, no dressing at all. But the worst dish, which was mine, was the reuben. I had high hopes, as the bread was white marbled with rye. But the rubbery slices of meat were not recognizable as corned beef. The taste was off. It was tough, too, but that didn't matter because I couldn't eat it. I didn't want to put a cloud over the family's happy mood, so I didn't complain at the time.

We were staying in an Airbnb nearby and happened upon this excellent spot for brunch. The interior is a little wacky. There are some chords strung about and some unfinished spots (the location used to be an old pharmacy), but the staff was friendly and it was busy. They brought out complimentary scones drizzled with honey with our coffee that were SO GOOD. I had the smoked salmon hash with capers which was simple and delicious. Portions were generous and prices very reasonable.

Have been here for dinner several times. Perfect place for American comfort food and surprisingly affordable prices. From all our visits we have tried and can vouch for the fried chicken and ribs combo, all the pasta dishes, fish and chips that did not have a greasy natter, meatloaf and the pork tenderloin in a wine sauce. I find it hard every visit to choose just one dish so I prefer to go in a group so I can sample other plates. I think this place is known as a brunch spot and overlooked for dinner. That is too bad as people in the area are missing a good house cooked dinner option

Attended a lunch gathering with 12 fellow classmates of nearby Richmond Grade School. The atmosphere brought back memories of the soda fountain and photos that are still present to enjoy. The menu was quite diversified, the food generous and tasty. The service was outstanding.

I went to Sckavone's with my dinner club. There were 23 of us and we had a really nice dinner at an affordable price. Not a fancy restaurant but very nice menu selection and good American comfort food. There was a variety of food selections around the table and everyone seemed to enjoy their dinners. I know I did.

Sckavone's used to be a good restaurant. The last two times I have eaten there (for lunch), the eggs were not cooked on one occasion, and on a second visit the bacon was sort of grey, soft and greasy, as if it had been dipped in oil--oh, yes, and the bacon was cold to the touch. I must confess, I've never left bacon uneaten--anywhere or at any time in 5 decades of living--but after one bite of this "bacon" I stopped eating it. I feel compelled to give a once good neighborhood restaurant a poor rating. Their service was good, but the food was more than disappointing.

Recently visited Sckavone's after trying to get into several other breakfast places nearby. Sckavone's unlike most of the other places I saw didnt have a line outside the door and I was hungry. Well I choose a great place to pop into and I would recommend you give it a try. Loved the old drugstore decor, found it very inviting. Once seated our server was very attentive and recommended several dishes. I really liked the bloody mary bar. Yes, you can go up and stock on your favorite additions to your drink, not to mention the price was very reasonable as well. Ordered the chicken and waffles based upon our servers recommendation and they was awesome. Not your typical fried wings and legs, but a pounded out chicken breast the Cinnamon syrup was interesting as well. If you happen to be in the neighborhood check this place out. Reasonably priced and food was very good. When back in town I will give it a try.

Just ate here for lunch. Highly recommended. Good food, and no wanna be trendy crowds. Fast service. Ill be eating here more often.

Very good food here. Their fried chicken and ribs are probably their specialty. The food is plentiful and tasty. The mash potatoes and gravy are super filling. I think the only thing missing was using a pinch of Thyme or rosemary would put it over the top to excellence. The service was good but a tad bit slow but it was busy. The ribs were a little on the sweet side but almost fall off the rib goodness. The Mac and Cheese was a bit too oily by it was still really good. The old school bar which resembles the old ice cream parlor feel expect it’s their bar area so no kids allowed in that area. Overall a positive dining experience.

Everything you'd want in a neighborhood restaurant - good comfort food, great service, and historic photos of the restaurant and neighborhood on the walls. Good for casual meals and take-out. Also nice outdoor seating for when the weather cooperates.

What could be better than a delicious fried chicken dinner and one of the best tasting meat loaf dishes all served with fresh vegetables in a casual, friendly restaurant with good beer, wine, etc.? The food is not trendy, but old fashioned comfort food. The restaurant has tables and booths and children seem to be welcome there.

Hubby and I were staying at the Evermore just a few blocks away - read the reviews and took a nice walk down there. It's one one of those little gems off the beaten track. Efficient service...great mimosas to kick start the day, the salmon hash is killer... Straightforward comfort food and comfortable booths - a come-as-you-are little gem.

My family loves this little place. Great service and great homestyle offerings. The chicken fried steak is fabulous!

We found Sckavones after looking for a great clam chowder. Super cute neighborhood joint. Our server was Chelsea. She was so helpful and sweet but everything there was so kind and made us feel so welcome. I had the Cobb salad which was fresh and delicious and enough for two people. My husband had halibut fish and chips and chowder. The halibut was lightly breaded and fabulous. Chowder was so good! Cocktails were strong and just right. We can’t wait to go back and have breakfast. HIGHLY RECOMMENDED!

We've been coming here for years for the great service and fried chicken sandwich! It's one of the few places that has a good family atmosphere and something for everyone on the menu. The owner is always attentive, there are always a few good beers on tap and some awesome ice cream sundaes for dessert. We only consider ourselves regulars at a handful of this places and this is one of them.

I have been coming here on and off for probably ten years. I hadn't been in at least a year and was there recently on a Friday night. Operations were firing on all cylinders and service and food were top notch. Nice to see the same owner is still hands on after all these years. The air conditioning seemed to be excellent. Pro tip: if you sit outside on the Division St. side, you are going to get a lot of car noise and fumes. Do yourself a favor: sit inside.

When my husband and I were in Portland we had a friend who lives there choose the restaurants we went to. We ate at Sckavone's twice even though we were in Portland less than a week. Breakfast was superb and dinner was just as good. I didn't eat everything on the menu or we would have had to stay in Portland a couple more weeks. Great little place for food, atmosphere and friendly service.

Found this courtesy of "Breakfast in Bridgetown". We were looking for a place without a line on a Sunday late morning. We got there around 10am and there was no wait. Service was a bit slow, but a few nice surprises: mini scones with honey, soy milk for the coffee, and a bloody mary bar. They had veggie sausage too! A restaurant after my heart; they had comment cards right on the table. I ordered the smoke salmon hash which had an enormous portion of salmon, and came with 2 eggs. My hubby ordered the french toast with a side of bacon. The good: the cream cheese icing and butter came on the side, which I love. The bad: they gave him bacon. I really enjoyed this place, and despite the 30 minute drive, it was delightful. We left around 11am and still no wait for a table. Would go back for breakfast, or to try the dinner menu.

We visited on a Saturday afternoon. There were a few people dining but not crowded. The service was attentive but not smothering. The menu has a variety of items which were served quickly and at the proper temperatures. The portions are adequate. There is a drugstore type dessert / ice cream bar but we did not partake. I had the corned beef hash which was very good.

Went here with my brother who suggested this place for breakfast. It is at the intersection of Division and 41st street if I remember correctly. I ordered the chicken fried steak with eggs and potatoes. The food tasted good and the portions were huge. You will not leave this place hungry. Service was very good and they kept the coffee mugs filled up. The interior is spacious and it was not to crowded. The building is very old and the place use to be a drugstore soda fountain type place and they have the old photos on the wall explaining the history. One of the waitresses had kind of like a beret style hat on her head and her looks kind of reminded me of Faye Dunaway in Bonnie and Clyde. If I was ten years younger I would give her a run for her money, and if she were ten years older I would have bought her a glass of milk. She sure was pretty. I highly recommend Sckavone's for breakfast.

We've enjoyed weekend breakfast at this local, 3rd generation restaurant a number of times over the last few years. It has always been great with friendly service and easy going atmosphere. Today mom & dad (in their 70's and very picky eaters) both had Nick's Favorite Scramble and both really liked it. Teenage daughter had the French Toast and ate all of it within minutes. FT comes with cinnamon icing, butter and syrup. Husband had the Country Benedict with country gravy, poached eggs, ham and potatoes. I invented my smoked salmon, spinach and mushroom omelet with breakfast potatoes - delicious! Usually there's no waiting too! A rare find on a Sunday morning in Portland. They also serve homemade scones drizzled with honey, and have a "Bloody Mary Bar" where you create your own drink garnish. Highly recommended.

Nothing bad to say. The staff is very welcoming and kind. The food was full of flavor and had "homestyle" feel to it. I highly recommend the fish and chips because I love halibut. The meatloaf was pretty good as well as the mashed potatoes. If we go back another time, I want to try the mac n cheese.

Casual dining in a family atmosphere. The food is a step above the usual diner. The service great. The owner is usually there to greet you. The building had been a drug store owned by the owner's grandfather. A true Portland experience located on the otherwise trendy SE Division St. Relax and enjoy!

Excellent fried chicken. Crispy but light, 2 large half breast and a wing. Served with mashed potatoes and country gravy. Took some home. All kinds of comfort food, full bar, very reasonable prices, large portions, good service, no nonsense.

Could drive by it a thousand times and never know what you're missing. Quality, homestyle food, big servings, good prices. The meatloaf is great. The chicken sandwiches is amazing. This is the type of place every neighborhood needs.

Take a trip back into time and enjoy cozy comfort food at this neighborhood gem. The menu has a great variety of comfort foods and portions are big enough to fill one pleasantly. It's a former pharmacy, complete with the soda fountain counter but plenty of other seating. I high recommend their chicken fried steak. I'll be back - it's such a friendly place with superb service.

Two of us ate there last week. Both got sick that night...throwing up, diarrhea. Called next day. Owner not available. Asked for him to call me. Made the mistake of saying we'd gotten sick, I guess. He didn't call all day. Called again. Said I just missed him. I knew he was avoiding me now. Said she'd tell him I called again. He has never called. Wouldn't you think he'd want to look into it? I live in this neighborhood. Been going there for years. You'd think he would treat his patrons better than that. Sister coming to town. Loves their salads. Nope, won't be going there. Not a good way to treat a customer.
Outstanding meals with a local feel
We love this place. We've probably been here close to 40 times, mostly for breakfast, and have always had a great experience. The food has always been very good, generous portions for reasonable prices. The service is pretty good, not stuffy and no attitude. We usually take all of our guests here at least once.I suspect this will continue to be one of our favorite spots for as long as we live in Portland.
