I managed to get into Screen Door without much of a queue which was good. On my food tour of Portland brunch was high on the agenda and Screen Door didn't disappoint. I went for the house special which was the chicken and waffles. I absolutely loved them as it was my first experience of having real American Southern fried chicken and not the KFC rubbish I'm used to in the UK. The service was excellent as was the drip coffee which was regularly refilled. I went for the two pieces which to be honest was too much and I couldn't finish it. I'd definitely go back and have a smaller portion!

The drinks are good, and the fried chicken is to die for. You wont regret this choice. Standing in line will be worth the wait for great food.

Hands down the best fried chicken we’ve ever had. You could cut it with a spoon on the plate with ease. And the mash potatoes and gravy were great as well. Make reservations we had to wait a bit!

I was in Portland on business and looked for a highly rated place for breakfast/lunch. Lucky for me, I chose the Screen Door and it didn't disappoint. A cute and eclectic place with great charm and a very friendly and helpful wait staff. I chose the chicken and waffles and praline-covered bacon - OH MY GOSH!!!!!! By far, the tastiest, juiciest, flavorful chicken I've ever eaten and delicious melt-in-your-mouth waffles. And then, the first bite of the bacon was amazing. Who knew bacon could be made even better covered in pralines??? If you are in the downtown Portland area, go try this restaurant - I would give it 100 stars if possible.

Had another great meal at Screen Door. Service was good and food was superb. We’ll be back again on the next visit.

Came here for the chicken and waffles, which are good! But loooved the praline bacon way more than anything! Portions are huge, so be sure to arrive hungry!!!

Ate last night and my wife is still talking about their fried chicken. Very accommodating as we walked in with a party of 10. Got us seated and served quickly. Table was very quiet when the food came because everyone was focused on their meals. Hush Puppies were delicious. Ample servings resulted in a few to-go boxes. Will definitely be back!!

Great food and service. The only suggestion I have is the Screen Door needs to honor their reservation system. We made a reservation ahead of time and the host made us wait until everyone was seated and the waiting area was empty (a half hour wait). The host was indifferent to our request that we had a made a reservation ahead of time. Rude behavior and an indifferent attitude on the part of the host made us uncertain if we will return to this restaurant. It is too bad because the food and service was good.

I really wanted to like this place considering all the Fantastic reviews I've heard about it. But it wasn't in the cards. I didn't suffer from the normal long wait most people do. Only 5 minutes at 12:50 p.m. with only five people ahead of me. I guess going by myself really helped. Let me start off by saying the service that was incredibly polite and helpful and the only reason I give this two stars instead of one. Right off the bat I was slammed into a freaking train wreck. The gumbo had an off chard taste to it. It turned out it was full of tiny little bits of over rendered, hardened, dry, burnt andouille sausage. This burnt and chard taste permeated the entire Bass which was made up of an ultra dark Roux, probably from the burnt sausage, and so sick you can stand a fork in it. It was so bad I couldn't tolerate it and send it back. Next came what was claim to be fresh squeezed orange juice. As it turns out it was provided from an outside Source disputed sometime before and just happened to use unripened stale oranges with at least one that was moldy. The whole batch should have been thrown out. Next game the fried chicken sandwich. Light buttermilk biscuits they were slathered in a sausage country gravy that had so much fresh thyme and pepper in it that it obliterated any chances of tasting the sausage. The same was true for the butterflied, boneless Fried Chicken breast. It was deep-fried 2 perfection, which ain't difficult to do oh, and would have been an absolute Delight had it not been for the bucket load of black pepper some buddy spilled into the dredge and batter. I've always said that KFC chicken has its 11 secret herbs and spices, 10 of which are pepper. This chicken was KFC on steroids. Add to that an overabundance of salt oh, and I couldn't finish but one third of it before I'd had enough. This was a company buy some cheesy grits they were tasty enough I'll be at a big gluttonous for my tastes. Here too oh, it was garnished with a heaping pinch of black pepper. I really wish the chef here would use a little more imagination and try at least one other flavor profile. I left this place feeling unsatisfied and still hungry. End up going down the street and eating somewhere else. I overheard people saying how good the macaroni and cheese was but, after seeing it and after the experience with the first meal, I've decided I'm not going to bother. Once again I sit here baffled at how people can go to a place like this and Rave its praises. Most people seem to just feel the burn on their tongue and feel that it must be fantastic flavor because It's obvious to me that most people just don't know any better

We always look forward to the Screen Door when we're in Portland as they have a great breakfast menu of interesting combinations. If going on a weekend, plan to be there early or wait an hour or so to get in. It's worth the wait. We visited Monday morning and were there at 7:50 so we're one of the first people seating at 8:00.

We started with the fried oysters and hush puppies served by the most accommodating Joanie .Chicken and waffles , bbq, and jambalaya were outstanding Desserts were delicious!

The food here is amazing!! We had the fried chicken and waffles and we ended up coming back a few days later for more! Casual setting, great service and delicious food! Definitely coming back here!

We made a reservation online three days prior to our visit. This meant we did not have to wait in line outside. The food was served promptly and was very good. I had chicken with gravy. The portion was very generous. I would also give the service overall high marks. Value is high, since the portions were large.

We ate lunch and had the fried chicken and Alaskan cod sandwiches. Both were yummy! The chicken sandwich was messy with the amount of slaw that was put on it so I ended up eating with a fork.

Showed up 15 minutes before they opened for dinner — roughly 20th in line for our party of 6. Once seated, service was fantastic, great menu, cool ambiance. Fried chicken was the highlight, as was the catfish and the brisket. Our entire party raved about the food. Believe the hype. It’s really good!

It’s all about the Screen Door plate. It’s your pick of three sides and/or veggies. The pile of catfish was enough for two. I went with the Mac and Cheese and creamed corn. The Screen Door plate will assist you with sampling the menu.

Great place, great food. Even a nice place to sit and enjoy the wait before getting in. The shrimp and grits was probably the best I’ve had. A good Bloody Mary. Try the specials.

The food was very mediocre and high priced. I waited 45 min to be seated after expressing three times to the waiter that I preferred an outside dining area. After finally being taken back to my table I noticed it was a small two person table in the corner when noticing other couples had bigger tables in some cases two tables pushed together. When I received the fried chicken meal, I noticed that It only came with two big pieces of chicken with a very small scoop of potatoes and thats it. Total bill: $43 for two. Do not recommend this place for "real" soul food.

While this is not the place to go if you’re dieting, it offers spot on “I don’t care that I’m stuffed, this food is so delicious I’m going to keep eating” Southern nosh. And as someone from the south, I’ve tried all varieties of this genre of food. Our group of eight all ordered something different, and we sampled each plate. While the fried chicken and hamburger were my favorites, there wasn’t a single dish that wasn’t unique (in a good way!), high quality and reasonably priced. Because the portions are large, and the appetizers can’t be missed, we would recommend sharing your main dish, unless you want leftovers, which is not a bad idea. Because the word is out on this spot, make sure you book a reservation and arrive with your entire party on time, as there will be a line of people waiting to take your table. To top it all off, the location lends itself to a quick stroll after dinner to help digest this rich fare.

Frist off, we want to thank our server Ashley. She helped our first visit to this Restaurant, an enjoyable one. We had heard of this place from co-workers and had different visions of it's location. We had wanted to try for sometime but never got the chance and thought it was closer to downtown Portland, which we have been avoiding for some time now. We started off with a cup of Gumbo (fantastic!) and shared the Sweet Potato fries (so good!!!) and the fried chicken wings (crispy on the outside, juicy on the inside). We ordered Butter salads, Fried Chicken (super tender and juicy), BBQ Plate - Brisket (Really good flavor), and the Griddlestack Burger (Very big & very delicious). We ended up with the Upside Down Cake (what a way to top off a delicious meal!) Yes it was crowded, and yes we had to wait, but it was well worth it. There were other items we wanted to try but already had ordered a LOT! We can't wait to return. Thanks again Ashley and all who prepared such a great meal!

I went to the Screen Door for breakfast since I hadn’t been here in a while. I had the chicken and waffles with cheddar grits. The chicken is crispy and moist. The waffle is crunchy and tasty. Excellent services and good location

We came to Portland during a very chilly and snowy weekend, which I’m sure had an impact on the lines. We arrived at 9:45ish and were seated immediately. We only had one chance to try things, so we ordered a lot and all of it was amazing. First, the hot chocolate and whip cream was so delicious. We got bananas foster French toast, which reminded us of a sweet bread pudding, and it was fabulous. Very rich though, I can’t imagine eating the whole thing, but to taste some was great. We also got the biscuit and gravy...again, amazing. We tried the blueberry lemon curd pancakes, which were also great. We decided to try the praline bacon...which was like candy, never had anything like it, but it was tasty. The star of the show though was the chicken and waffles. Best fried chicken of our lives. Also, had no idea sweet potatoes waffles could be so good. Hands down the best. Service was also great, everyone was friendly and we received everything quickly. Highly recommend this place and we will be back next time we are in Portland!

Breakfast at Screen Door Eastside was just what we needed to kick off the day! The food was absolutely delicious every bite packed with Southern comfort and flavor that had us all raving around the table. Sharing the morning with good friends only made it better, filling the air with laughter and that relaxed, weekend vibe. The atmosphere felt welcoming and warm, and the portions were generous enough to keep us full and happy. It’s the kind of place that makes you want to linger a little longer over your coffee just to soak it all in.

We were disappointed in our choices and the decor. After reading about this restaurant over the years, we were surprised when we were again in Pdx. We won't be trying it again though the staff were pleasant enough and the service not slow.

I love Screen door. Its an adorable midcentury diner, but the menu is not. On several visits I've ordered the chicken and waffles (two pieces of chicken is the sweet spot) and I just can't stop ordering it, best chicken and waffles I've ever had. The sweet potato waffle perfectly compliments the SUPER crispy chicken. Everything (arugala pie, etouffe, mac and cheese) I've stolen from others in my party's plates has been 5/5 as well. Great service, but make a reservation because they fill up fast!

This restaurant lived up to the hype. I enjoyed my brunch and was thoroughly impressed with the excellent service received. My cup of coffee was refilled before I realized it was half full. The hostess was kind and welcoming and found a seat for me at the bar right away. I would highly recommend this place for brunch.

The food is really good. I usually get the fried chicken. The pieces are really big and I often take one piece home for lunch the next day. It's kinda noisy in there so it's not the place to go for a quiet dinner. But that's a minor issue and does not take away from the great food. There is usually a line to get in so time your arrival with that in mind.

We found this place online as it was highly reviewed. I honestly knew nothing about the place before. We got there 30 minutes before it opened for dinner and saw a line of people already waiting. I'm glad we got there early as it would have taken much longer if we got there late. I was unhappy with their service as we sat down and it took forever to order food and get served. We saw other tables order, finish their food before we could even order ours. It was the same for the table next to us too. The fried chicken was excellent. The other BBQ is fine, but nothing too special. I had an issue with the gumbo and they took it off the bill. It wasnt that good anyways.

The family came from across the country to spend the weekend together and Screen Door was number one on everyone's list for brunch. We got there at 8 to wait on line, so we were seated as soon as the restaurant opened. Ordered chicken and waffles, bananas foster french toast and blueberry pancakes.. So what was the deal with the service??? We didn't get served at the same time- I am talking about an HOUR difference- with the waitress constantly apologizing but the bottom line is that how do you run an establishment like that? The food was great but the chicken waffles came out a full hour after the other food. Shame on you.

The Cajun spices were perfect. The okra starter was much more than we expected-it could have been a good starter for us for 4, not 2. The screen door plate was great because of the variety. We are happy we went.

I was very impressed with my dining experience at this establishment. Our waiter was very helpful and kind. The restaurant was very accommodating to my son’s tree nut allergy. Our meals were delicious, I recommend the chicken and waffles and the chicken tenders with Mac and cheese. I will come back to this restaurant when I am back in Portland.

What an amazing place for American food! It was quite busy, however the wait wasn’t too long on a Thursday night at 7ish pm. Service is very fast. By 8:30p i noticed the restaurant was much emptier! I ordered fried chicken with sweet potatoes French fries. The chicken was very thick and so soft that would melt at every bite; the breading was crunchy and spicy just enough to make this dish soo delicious. I loved the sweet potatoes too. But i believe the original dish comes with mashed potatoes. My husband took the bbq meat mix and he said it was insanely good too. Awesome Staff as well, very kind; they offered us to keep the stroller in the office and have us seated in a much quieter area, also heated, so that our little girl could relax as she was crying her heart out! 2 thumbs up, loved this place and will definitely recommend it and return!

This is surprisingly good food. You wouldn't expect it but everything we ordered was delicious. I'll return when next in Portland.

This is one of the most popular breakfast places in Portland. Finally waited it out. The food was good. There were limited vegan/vegetarian options.

The wait took a while but was more than worth it. A local couple recommended the chicken and waffles stating that it was better than what they had in New Orleans. I haven't had the chance to try the N'awlins chicken and waffles but the Screen Door version was absolutely delicious. The praline bacon is to die for and pretty much everything else was cooked to perfection. Would go here again in a heartbeat.

We went here based on a recommendation by the rental car place. I am so glad we did. Do not hesitate to go in based on it outside appearance. Inside it is clean and the food is fantastic. Service is great and the hostess was pleasant even with the wait. Based on everything I saw the most popular is the chicken and waffles, which my wife got and it was excellent. I can’t remember the name of mine but it was yummy, especially the cheesy grits.

Best fried chicken we have eaten in ages. The key is the fresh tasting chicken. The portions are generous and the chicken is deboned. The wait staff is so friendly and helpful. They also have all types of Southern dishes and BBQ. Next time I’ll try the brisket and and the thick pork chop. We were too full for their desserts.

Presentation of the food was nice. Things we liked were red beans and rice, mac and cheese, shrimp and grits. Average was fried chicken and mashed potatoes. Disappointments were the corn bread and biscuit. Customer service was great!

Make reservations if you’ll be in the area. This was a really delicious lunch! Best chicken and waffles I have ever had! My husband thoroughly enjoyed his Bloody Mary. And his food. Highly recommend.

Nice place to eat brunch. The virgin bloody Mary was tasty and spicy. The chicken and waffle plate was good, but it was a lot of the same flavors and I probably should have gotten some sides. Everyone else's sides looked great! I had so much of the meal that I brought some of it home. Would try it again yeah!

Service is amazing and the food is excellent. I had the banana foster French toast , my daughter had the chicken sandwich and my wife had the chicken with waffles. Each one tasted great. You really need to make reservations as the wait can be long

I have had chicken and waffles different places but these are the best. Sweet potato waffles that are tender in the inside and crispy on the outside. Chicken that is perfectly breaded and prepared.

This place is absolutely fantastic! We stopped here on a Friday morning for some brunch and managed to score one of the outside tables. I had the boozy coffee which had the most incredible cream on it. For my main course, I had the catfish and grits. The catfish was perfectly cooked and was crunchy on the outside but was super moist on the inside. The grits were well seasoned and I heard people ordering them with cheese but it's delicious even without. If you're in Portland, do yourself a favor and stop by here!

Three of us had a leisurly Tuesday Brunch and it was all delicious. Our wait staff was helpful and attentive but didn't intrude on our dining. Things were a bit slow, but everywhere seems to be looking for more workers and we understand and are patient. In fact, it gives us more time to chat!

We had a fantastic dinner here this evening. Our first course was a salad of heirloom tomatoes, cucumbers and mozzarella. It was delicious. I had the shrimp and grits which was absolutely outstanding. My wife had a very tasty special of scallops over a corn combo. Finally the desserts were divine. The apple crumble was great bit the blueberry cornmeal pie with basil ice cream was incredible. It was a wonderful dining experience.

Very busy brunch spot, make a reservation! Chicken and waffles seemed to be the most popular dish but sadly we didn’t try. The summer squash scramble was great, their breakfast potatoes are seasoned so well and the biscuit with jam is excellent! The vegetable hash was not as well received but also comes with a biscuit. Restaurant can be a bit slow when busy and it’s loud. Service is very good.

Awesome food great atmosphere. There was a 30 minute wait. And the weight was worth it. My server name was Katarina (she was awesome). Even though it was 11 o’clock, I had a mimosa (it’s 5 O’Clock Somewhere). It was delicious– more like champagne with a splash of orange juice( I recommend only one, especially if you’re driving).. I could not help it! I had to try the praline bacon. My taste buds exploded. The candied flavor and smokiness of the bacon was top notch. I believe the bacon was thick cut and cooked to perfection. The candied was such that it was not overly wet or limp. Honestly, I wanted everything on the menu. I asked Katarina:Should I have the ricotta pancake or the sweet potato chicken & waffles. I went with the sweet potato chicken and waffles (I was not disappointed). I am a souther bell! That fried chicken breast would make my granny proud. The seasoning and crispy batter was lovely. It brought back memories of me eating fried chicken from Granny’s house that cooked in one of those deep Dutch skillets( skillet season to perfection). I also placed an order for the fried catfish. As a souther, I had to give it a shot. The fried fish was cooked to perfection. Now, if you are from the south, you are aware that catfish has to be fried perfectly to make it not taste, wet and gummy. My friend and I did the honors and taste it straight away. The seasoning was on point. I can tell that the fish was seasoned and also the cornmeal was seasoned. Next, my second bite. I put a little hot sauce on it and wow! I called Katarina immediately and told her to get me an order to go. My friend had the biscuits with sausage gravy. And she said it was delicious. She also had the cinnamon rolls which she said were delicious as well.

The rating is for the server's attentiveness to my allergies. I only had a salad and potatoes because of potential cross contamination with the fried foods. My husband had the fried chicken plate. We both enjoyed our meal. The flavor combination was delicious. Everyone's meal around us looked great. My cons are the tables were a little close and the menu is limited if you have a seafood allergy. I would go back and order the same meal again. Our server was excellent!

From the time we walked in the service, it was excellent. The food was amazing. The sweet potato waffle was amazing tastes like pumpkin bread, and chicken was cooked to perfection. The atmosphere really made you feel like you were on a screened in porch in the south. Parking is a little hard to find but worth the walk. It was so good had to have desert pecan pie and egg nog cheesecake were delicious. Will definitely go back to try something different.

Great food and delicious cocktails! We always have a satisfying, fabulous meal and the service is quick!

Oh my the hype was worth it. The best southern food I’ve ever had and I left eating way too much. Worth the wait and portions were huge.

Best food. Have been here for both brunch and dinner and the food and service is outstanding. Best to go during the week.

Had brunch here on a Monday morning. Not long after we scored a booth, the restaurant filled up. Obviously this place has a reputation. I drooled over everything I saw coming out of the kitchen, but finally settled on huevos rancheros. Out of this world! And my niece had an asparagus omelet that looked amazing. Every city has an institution and I’m glad I found The Screen Door!

Not worth the hype. It is just an over priced American restaurant. Southern food is better at Miss Delta, and better priced with flavor

Top line: The chicken and waffle dish, justifiably famous, was great. Crispy chicken, tender inside, well-seasoned, paired with the sweet potato waffle is a delight. Service was friendly and pretty efficient as well. Just be warned. We were there for brunch on a Friday, and the wait was well over an hour. We were among old friends who don't see each other much in town for a wedding, so the time was welcome. However, I don't know if I could justify the wait otherwise.

Late dinner on a Friday night waited about 20 minutes for an outside table. BUT well worth the wait. Wife had fried chicken and mashed potatoes. I had fried chicken and waffles. I had always wanted to eat this combo and I was very, very satisfied that I had ordered it here! Chicken pieces are large, white chicken was moist, crispy crust. Oh how good it was. A must eat restaurant in Portland.

After relaxing and getting mellow at Knot Springs, my boyfriend and I were looking to quench our appetites before hitting the OMSI and do a little touring around Portland. We stopped by here since we've heard amazing and rave reviews about this place, and tbh the photos look bomb af. We came during the lunch rush but were super lucky to be seated relatively quickly as there was space at the bar, and we didn't mind where we sat as long as we sat. Our server/bartender was warm and welcoming, giving us an appropriate amount of time to look over the menu and answer our questions if we had any. I ended up getting the chicken and waffles to satisfy my sweet tooth, while my boyfriend got the cajun scramble. The wait time to get the food wasn't so bad, and boy did we dig in when we got it! The chicken was fried to perfection, and the waffles were soft, sweet, and melted in your mouth. Mixed together was just the combo I needed! I also had a bite of the cajun scramble, and man was it flavorful! The spices with the creamy cheddar cheese grits and andouille sausage were such delicious. Coming from the South (Texas, y'all), we really couldn't complain much. I will say if you can, definitely reserve a table cause this place can get packed!

Rumor has it that they have had lines go around the block waiting for a table to dine here. I now know why and even though we didn't have to wait on Wednesday Oct. 30th 2019, I would have no problem waiting two or three hours to eat here. The breakfast and lunch menus are so over the top that it took us 15 minutes just to decide what to order. When we did finally order and the food came all we could say is OMG and asked if this was heaven. Outstanding service too and can not wait to come back!

We went for a late breakfast. The food was really different for the PNW. I ordered the Breakfast Po' Boy Sandwich. It was wonderful, Cheese, egg over medium with crispy fried onions on a delightful roll. I definitely want to go back and try the amazing looking fried chicken and sweet potato waffles. The staff was efficient and pleasant.

I’m so glad our local friends brought us to Screen Door, making sure we were in line when it opened the doors at 5pm sharp. Hush puppies and fried okra started us off in the right direction for appetizers. For those who just can’t decide, the sampler plate lets you customize your perfect meal with three items from a huge list of choices. I loved the fresh veggies and salads in addition to classic comfort foods. Yum, yum, yum. I wish I had had room for dessert!!

If you are planning to visit the Screen Door, allow time to wait for a table especially if it is a weekend or holiday, Be patient! It is worth it!!! Regardless of what you might order, the food is delicious and well, well worth the wait. Being in Portland for me and my family guarantees a trip to the Screen Door. We love it and you will, too!

When we're in Portland, we try to make it a point at least once to stop at the Screen Door for breakfast. The first time we ever visited, there was a line all the way out the door and down the street. This time, however (a weekday), we got lucky and were seated immediately. My wife had the Bannas Foster and I had the biscuits & gravy. Both were amazing! Our server (wish I had caught her name) was very friendly and attentive. This place was recommended to me by a former Portland native several years ago, and it hasn't disappointed yet. Definitely a must-go breakfast place!

We visited here with friends which we do often, but the long wait which is usually 2 hours is just not worth it to me. The food is good, nothing wrong with that and the service is great, but to stand outside for that long is just too much for seniors. Maybe have a senior day so we can enjoy it without the wait.

So glad a friend told us to try this place. “Best fried chicken I’ve had in my life,” he said. I had the chicken fingers and they were quite good. Had those with a house salad and Mac ‘n cheese. Oh my, that Mac ‘n cheese is GOOD! Three friends had the red beans and rice special and their eyes were rolling into the back of their heads. We lucked out and got a table outside. Inside was packed and pretty noisy. Friendly staff and good service.

I went to the Screen Door with good expectations. The menu looked good, the reviews were good. I have been to a number of southern restaurants in a number of different cities. What I experienced at the Screen Door was pretty mediocre. I had the smoked chicken and sausage gumbo small plate, a small plate of shrimp and grits, and collard greens. I understand that everyone has their own opinion of what gumbo, as well as shrimp and grits should taste like. To me these two items were rather ho hum. My wife on the other hand thought her items were very good. She had the mac and cheese, chicken wings, and beet salad. Again, I thought the mac and cheese and the wings pretty ho hum. Don't know about the beet salad, because I've always thought beets taste pretty much like dirt.

I got the chicken and waffles which was very unique and delicious. The sweet potato waffle tasted like pumpkin due to fall spices. The waffle was light and fluffy. The chicken was cooked perfectly, moist on the inside and crispy exterior. The chicken skin did not stay on once cutting into it though. The only real negative was the chicken was southern style with a lot of black pepper. Which on its own is delicious but when that is pair with the fall spices from the waffle, it does not really go well together.

Good chicken, mashed potato and gravy. My red beans and rice was horrible. To thick, no seasoning, nothing Cajun about them. I left them uneaten, the waiter never asked if there was a problem. I had better beans in Rwanda. Never received the corn bread that comes with the meal. I haven’t eaten there for a while because normally they try to turn tables so fast I feel rushed and never enjoyed my experience. Last night was ok, not rushed too much. I might come back but not for breakfast.

Food was great. long lines, only downside. Chicken and waffles a must, though everything on the menu is good.

One of the best restaurants in Portland. We stumbled upon this jewel and it stood out to be one of the best we had in Portland.

This is amazing brunch. The chicken waffle and the bacon are simply to die for! This is not a place to go if you want to eat healthy. The lines are long, and the food is definitely southern comfort, but boy is it yummy!! Located in a trendy area, and makes for a fun brunch!

While the exterior of the building does not look all that special, the meal that we had was Amazing! I had the lemon glazed blueberry pancakes with a side of pecan praline encrusted bacon. If I lived closer, this would be my absolute favorite breakfast meal, and would make a point to drive there just for it. The service was outstanding also, and very friendly. I have never taken the time to write a review on anywhere before, but wanted everyone to know - you should not miss this place ;-)

Food is great, top notch comfort food (especially the French toast and the chicken with waffles). A buzzy restaurant that is really great value for the quality and the quantity of the food you get.

Great eats in East Portland. Incredible fried chicken is just the start. They have salads and desserts made with locally sourced, in season berries, greens, veggies and fruit. Always crowded but it is a fun atmosphere. Wait staff if great and prices are reasonable. Come hungry and early.

At least once a week, we order the chicken dinner with either red beans and rice or macaroni and cheese (extra sides), with greens, cornbread, mashed potatoes and maybe, the best gravy ever; plus, you get and absolutely wonderful red velvet cake (2-3 servings), that is beyond delicious. The entire meal itself is simply amazing. The ONLY food not cooked at home that I will eat, and happily at that! Best dinner of the week (just please do NOT let my wife see this...). You can't go wrong with Screen Door, ever!

Home cooking in the Pacific Northwest. So glad we were able to fit this in our schedule. It is worth the wait. The portions are huge and everything is well seasoned. The mac n cheese was AMAZING!!! Please do yourself a favor and get the mac n cheese. Collards are great too. We didn't have room for dessert.... next time!

From walking in the front door I liked this place. Not too big but not too small. Quiet enough to have a conversation but not so quiet you feel awkward about it. The only complaint I could make is that I cannot seem to work out what to order in a place like this and am accumulating boxes of take home food because I can never seem to finish my meal. Our server who doubled as the barman was just delightful. Highly recommend!!

Having lived in the South for many years, we appreciate the region’s cooking beyond bbq. Screen Door was a very pleasant surprise. The menu was extensive and we wanted to try it all. Given the big portions, it makes sense to order a variety and share. Leave room for dessert. The restaurant gets busy so arrive early and sit on the patio.

Went here for brunch on a Saturday. It was busy but the wait was not long. Now we know why it's so popular! The food is amazing. A great Northwest spin on Southern food. This place is a true example of the amazing Portland food scene. We went toward the end of the bring time, about 1:30pm. I ordered the vegetable hash and my husband got the chicken and waffles. We both loved our dishes. Staff was kind and accommodating.

We were in town for a conference. Seven of us stopped here for dinner, they open at 5:30, we arrived around 5:25 and there was already a line. They sat us quickly, service was great. Food took awhile to to get to us, but it makes sense since they opened and were full within minutes. Most ordered the buttermilk fried chicken, huge portion, and tasted great. Chicken strips, corn bread, biscuits, and cheesy grits were all fantastic. Prices are even reasonable.

The best fried chicken I’ve ever had! Also loved the homemade buttermilk dressing. Worth the wait and extremely friendly staff!

The chicken and waffles are great. Chicken is crispy with a little heat. Very tasty. I regret not having the cats head buscuit.

It would have been 5 stars but the host watched us walk in and sit down then came back and seated people who walked in after us then when I said something said oh your fine I’ll be right back, then proceeded to seat us right in front of the kitchen so there was a constant flow of traffic and even getting bumped into while trying to eat, he apparently realized he was in the wrong and came back and asked if we wanted to be moved to booth after we had already ordered, at that point I was already annoyed and told him we would stay where we were at. I did give them 4 stars because the waiter was fantastic and the food was some of the best I’ve ever eaten!!!

This place is always packed, and we decided to find out why. While the food is pretty good for fried southern style food, be prepared to budget about four days worth of calories into this meal. Cheesy grits were good, the hushpuppies, while unusual, were just ok. The mac and cheese was better than average, but not over the top amazing, but the fried chicken on a biscuit was what made it worth all of the wait, the crowded seating accommodations, the noise, and the price. Wow, was that delicious. The chicken was perfectly fried- crisp, not greasy, hot and moist. Biscuits were flaky and not too dry, and the gravy was sublime! While it's not a place I would do with great frequency (both the time and calorie costs are too high and you get about six inches between adjacent conversations), it is a fun place to check out.

The Screen Door has made a name for its self in Portland. Producing Pacific Northwest Soul Food, which is a healthier option than southern soul food. The encrusted fried catfish and signature fried chicken are some of the best dishes you will find on the menu. Location is on E. Burnside a couple of miles from DT Portland. It worthy of a visit!!!

The food here is great! There arent a lot of good southern restaurants in Portland but this definitely is! I had the fried chicken with mac and cheese, cornbread, and a biscuit. The chicken was delicious! I wasn't a huge fan of the mac and cheese but my family was. Be aware that the portions are huge!!! Between myself and my husband we ended up having enough food to eat it there, take it home and have 2 more meals out of it! The drinks are also unique and quite tasty. Just make sure you show up on time! We arrived at opening to a line but were lucky enough to get a seat but within 10 minutes the whole place was full. They are really nice though! Our food took a long time to come out and so the waiter gave us our first round of drinks free!

Booking a reservation is a great way to get ahead of any lines. Even if you don’t, eating here is worth any wait! Started with the Praline Bacon which was amazing and followed that up with the famous chicken and waffles which was so good! If you are Portland you need to visit Screen Door.

Our daughter suggested that we try Screen Door. It was very good. My husband and I shared an order of hushpuppies to start. They were perfect, except not as hot as I would have liked because we had a bit of a drive. Anyhow, they were light, flavorful and not greasy. The honey mustard dipping sauce was also great. Tangy and not too sweet. Each of us also had a fried chicken sandwich. They were huge. We could have shared one. The chicken was moist with a nice crunchy crust. I had the mac and cheese for a side. It was very rich and creamy. I loved the tangy cheese. My husband had the lemon coleslaw which had a lot of lemon flavor. Our daughter had the stuffed squash and sweet potato fries. She loved them both. She said the squash tasted like Thanksgiving. The flavors worked well together. The fries were crunchy and delicious.

3 of us for breakfast. We made it in before 9am and there wasn’t a line so we were seated right away. Apparently from the folks I was with, this is a rare occurrence. This held true as by 9:15 the restaurant was packed and there was a wait at the door. Service was prompt and efficient. We received our menu, water and coffee/tea within 2 minutes of seating. Food order was put in and received in roughly 8 minutes from order. We were done and out by 9:30. Very efficient. To the host, server, busser and re-set folks. Great job! We appreciate you. Images of food attached. Also door signage announcing 2020 changes also attached.

This restaurant reminds me of road trips through Georgia and the Carolinas when my daughter was in college back there. Barbecue, cornbread, fried chicken and mashed potatoes -- the Screen Door food is all good. The ambiance in the restaurant is delightful too.

My husband and I were excited for another trip to Portland and an opportunity to go to Screen Door. The food is still ABSOLUTELY AMAZING. They do not open until 900am on the WEEKENDS. Today it was taining and people gathered to line up at 815am. We had arrived before 800am, it was raining pretty good. They were still setting up and the only outside waiting area was under a leaky tarp. We went to our car to sit at a few minutes past 800. When we went back to wait under the umbrellas provided outside the line was 15+ deep and no assemblance of order. But, everyone who came after and prior all hot seated. We had the Cathead Bisquit. The chicken is soaked in buttermilk and then breaded and fried atop if a beautiful, silky, flakey buttermilk bisquit WITH sausage gravy. It also comes with cheesey grits (NOT INSTANT GRITS). Due to table placement needs they asked us to move and gave us a free breakfastizer reminiscent of a hushpuppy only sweet and drizzled with marionberry syrup! Coffee is delightful and full bodied. Will we ho back YES! They even serve lunch and dinner. The staff run like a well made swiss watch. You owe it to you and your family, friends, date to go check it out.

We arrived Friday around 12:30pm and was told we wouldn't be promised a table due to the 2pm closure and wait list. We decided to stick around and about 45 minutes later was told that they would get us in during the "bonus" round as many people who were called left due to the wait. The food was worth the wait! We started with the Praline Bacon which was unique but tasted great. I ordered chicken and waffles and my wife shrimp and grits. Everything was cooked perfectly and taste great! A must try for anyone visiting! Be sure to get there early!

The staff was super friendly but it took forever to even Be acknowledged by the hostess as she was delivering drinks, serving food, and cleaning up ( took about 15 minutes even though we were the only people in line). The food is just okay. On the items that they know how to cook, they cook it well, but they do have hits and misses. The gravy from my mashed potatoes taste like dirty dish water, the jambalaya has no spice and very little taste, but their greens, cat fish, and macaroni and cheese are great. This place is at least worth trying (just stay away from the gravy!)

great experience great service very nice people very crowed try to have a reservation amazing food very big portion

I was excited to go to this restaurant. I have not done a breakfast outing in years. The restaurant’s atmosphere was nice enough but the food was truly mediocre at best. I knew not to get the chicken and waffles even though it’s what I had gone there for breakfast. I saw the trays for others and the chicken and the waffle looked dry. Then I noticed that lots of folks had most of the waffle and chicken left back on their plates so I opted out. Got the eggs and biscuit. The biscuit was large but dry and there wasn’t much taste to the eggs and the mimosa was mostly just cannery juice. Service was great from everyone but my waiter was dripping sweat too much for me. I won’t go back.

14 of us finished the STP Bike Ride together 14 July 2024, with our celebratory meal at the Screen Door on E. Burnside. Our son had taken us several years ago and the food was great then, so we hoped the same this time around for our group who had never been. We made reservations and Clifton took care of all of us with a sense of humor and what seemed like total ease, a true professional. Everything was on point! And everyone raved about their various meal choices and the exceptional service we received. So…You now have 11 NEW out-of-state fans! And we all thank you for the wonderful experience! Sincerely, Mike & Deb Griffith and the SpinnKlixx Crew

We visited Screen Door for the first time with friends who never visit Portland without stopping by and I'm so glad we did! On our first visit I started with the gumbo which was deliciciously smoky and flavourful - it reminded us of the gumbo the four of us tried during a visit to New Orleans a couple of years ago. The small cup I ordered to start was super filling so I didn't manage to eat it all as I wanted to save space for my main course, the pork chop, a wise choice. When this pork chop was put in front of me my eyes just about popped out of my head. It was huge, cartoon like even, and cooked to absolute juicy perfection. This pork chop will be a meal I'll think about it and crave for a long time, in fact I craved it so much we had to go back before coming back to Scotland. I really hope I get to back again one day!

The chicken and waffles are a tasty treat! Service was top notch and so is the food. Prices are very nice too. Excellent comfort food experience. Nice selection for brunch.

Amazing fried chicken! Worth the wait and the price. Mashed potatoes with ham gravy are really good as well. We back for Brunch which was great as well.

It was a 45 minute wait, but we just strolled around the neighborhood for most of the time. It's a fun atmosphere and the chicken and waffles were great.

one of the best friend chickens in the city! sometimes a long wait try call ahead seating and enjoy the neighborhood with a nice pre meal walk.

Busy and by all accounts currently very trendy place. Tried for dinner and had the Brisket which was tasty. Prices are in the middle of the spectrum and service was excellent. Can recommend.

What a fun place. And, who knew southern fried chicken and waffles were a real thing. Well... at least the Screen Door does... and they do it so well.

Try to go w a group so you can try everything. Had amazing beets salad...complex and earthy. Grits...perfection. oozing with richness. (Butter?) Brisket...charred outside yet moist + falling apart. Chicken. Perfect. Potatoes. Like home. Mac & cheese..the only slight miss. A bit too high end rich...was there cream cheese or sour cream in it? I like a pure cheese experience. Next time the fried okra and much more. Great food and Fab staff. Nothing better.

Had the crispy buttermilk-battered chicken with mashed potatoes, and was fantastic! The breading is crispy, and not greasy. Portion size was good (2 breasts), price was good, and waiting staff was terrific. I will have to go back for the chicken and waffle

Really enjoyed this place! The food was excellent and nice-sized portions .The praline bacon was off the charts good. I had the chicken and waffles. I ordered two pieces of chicken with it. One would have been enough given the sizes of the chicken. There were four of us having lunch; everyone was very happy with their food. Go.

Screen Door was so tasty. We ordered the Chicken and Waffles along with the Huevos Rancheros. The portions are big so you can easily share them and still leave satisfied. The couple sitting next to us were from NoLA and they ordered the Shrimp and Grits and loved it. They said it was the first time they had Shrimp and Grits outside of the South that were good! We went on a Sunday and showed up around 10:30am and waited for about an hour. By 12:30ish when we were leaving, the line/wait of people standing around had significantly decreased. The service was very friendly.

Get the chicken and waffles!!!! You’re welcome. Added bonus, order a side of gravy! So good! Great service. Worth the wait!

I came here with friends for breakfast before flying back home. The blood orange mimosa was delicious. The service was quick and they were nice enough to out or bags in a safe place while we ate. Overall had a great experience!

WOW. When I go eat at brunch spots with eye popping menus full of savory dishes, I'm usually most excited about the fresh fruit side dish. I decided to order a heavy meal of chicken and waffles; and I'm very glad I did! I would describe the chicken as "makes you want to dance" good chicken, plus the waffle was very light and fluffy so I didn't feel like I was eating a plate of bricks. You can also choose the number of pieces of chicken rather than getting a hefty portion you won't finish. I RARELY finish my dishes, but I believe I cleaned the plate here. I also did enjoy my fresh fruit side dish! Everyone enjoyed their meals and I don't even remember what anyone else ordered because I was so distracted by how good my own meal was. We went on a Friday morning and as a party of 5 had to wait only 10-15 minutes. I imagine the wait must be much worse on the weekends as the groups of basic brunchers come in taking new pics for their dating apps . If you are in Portland you better have a meal here!

Oh boy, was this spectacular. Coming from the south, I had high expectations and this place blew me away. I hate to admit it, but it was some of the best southern food I've ever had. The server was excellent and had great recommendations.

Been going to the place for over a decade. Food is so tasty. Staff are fantastic. Atmosphere brilliant. Going on a week day at 9am worked really well. Only waited about 15 min.

Loved our visit to this cute restaurant! We shared chicken and waffles and the chicken/biscuit/gravy sandwich with a side of cheese grits. It was all delicious!

We had the Texas veggie migas and the bananas foster French toast, and wowza ! Best ever French toast and huge portions. Service was excellent too ! A little bit noisy in there, and not much ambiance, but we will look forward to our next visit. Half hour wait on Sunday.

Stellar food and service. Busy busy busy place for a reason! Food and cocktails are delicious. Long lines are de rigeur for a reason....did I mention the fried chicken and waffles? Because if I didn't....many others will or have! In a word...go...but go early or in off times because the wait time can be crushing...

The food is excellent. The fried chicken and chicken strips are great. The sweet potato fries were the best I’ve ever eaten. Prices reasonable. If visiting Portland OR give it a try

I was raised and still live in the South. The Screen Door impressed me with their authentic southern meal. I had the gumbo and my wife had the chicken with several veggie sides. Everything was very good and the fried okra and pimento cheese appetizers were amazing. The screen door must start with fresh broccoli. When in Portland I recommend you have a meal the Screen Door.

Awesome food, service and atmosphere! The food and drinks are always consistently good, but this food is rich...so don't come here if you're on a low fat diet!

Needed extra time to find street parking. All staff were smiling and friendly. Our food was delicious: chicken and waffles ( believe me you will only need 1 piece of chicken), catfish sandwich and fried okra. Great little place for lunch and a cool neighborhood. $50 lunch for 2 with no beverages purchased.

Chicken and waffles… I've always been curious about this combination….YYYEEAARRRSSS ago I had tried Rosco's Chicken and Waffles in Long Beach, but if I'm 100% honest…I don't remember being swept off my feet as I legit don't fully remember the experience and flavors, YES I was sober haha, but let's just say it didn't knock my socks off to want to have it again. While my husband and I were on our foodie adventure in Portland, Oregon a fellow Friend of ours suggested that we go to The Screen Door Café for their Chicken and Waffles. When I looked them up on IG they had some interesting and delicious sounding food…smoky sweet praline bacon, bananas foster french toast, chopped brisket mac and cheese….there were so many delicious sounding options we wanted it all, but decided to keep it simple and stick with the chicken and waffles. Being it was Covid we ordered for pickup! We ordered one plate of Chicken and waffles and an extra fried chicken breast. Holy crap….this dish is JAW DROPPING good! The chicken that comes on top is juicy, crispy, tender and has a slight peanut buttery cayenne spice to it that marries incredibly well with the cinnamony sweet potato waffles. We reminisce on this place often and honestly it was so damn good we had to go the next day to get the samething! If you are in the Portland, Oregon area The Screen Door Café is a MUST!! My wife has mentioned trying to eat here next time we were in Portland. Fast forward to today which just happens to be our 19th wedding anniversary and we met some friends and took our kids. It was outstanding! I wanted to try a bunch of things but decided to go with the fried chicken and mashed potatoes. I was not disappointed in the slightest. Also tried some hush puppies, Mac n cheese and some pulled pork off someone else’s plate. My wife loved her shrimp in cheesy grits. None of the kids turned their noses up. Man. This place is nuts. Alex took great care of us. Good sense of humor and attentive service. This place is firing on all cylinders right now. Go eat there!!

The food is awesome and creative. The design of the building makes the atmosphere rather loud and it's a bit tight in there. Also, like all the great places in PDX, expect to wait in a big 'ol line.

You can't go wrong with the fried chicken. Breakfast or dinner, it's amazing. hush puppies, collards and gruts are also a must.

We had a great experience at this restaurant! Everything was so delicious and fresh! Beware of the huge servings, maybe try splitting with someone! I ordered the Fried Chicken in a Biscuit and it was outstanding! Their hot chocolate was delicious. Highly recommend this if you want some southern food!

Chicken and waffles done right! Be prepared to wait up to 45 minutes, yeah it's that good and we waited about that long. We went on a Saturday not expecting it be busy but it was. The staff in my opinion is the gold standard for customer service and satisfaction. I was anticipating a long wait for the food to arrive after we ordered so I ordered an old fashioned, let me tell you what, it was better than amazing. The portions are large enough to share so if your group is two or more I recommend ordering something different. Then you'll get a chance to try their other delicious items. I'm definitely going back but next time for the dinner.

This spot is one of the few worth the wait and worthy of the hype; but that's not why I'm writing. The management is thoughtful and wonderful. When we needed a place to take a cancer patient who never gets out because of a very specific protocol, Screen Door made a special menu just for us and it was every bit as wonderful as their usual fare.

This is real southern food without having to leave the Pacific Northwest. The fried chicken was excellent and there were many other southern options. This is a real hidden gem. Great staff.

Brunch here is a must! Come hungry, the portions are huge! And great cocktails, the Bloody Mary was awesome! The atmosphere and service was great!

WOW WOW WOW!!!!! Craving S A T I S F I E D! Would fly to PDX just to eat this time and time again. Next trip will be stopping by for their breakfast/brunch menu. During this visit we went during dinner. There is a line already forming well before the doors open. If you don’t mind waiting in line dine in is good. Layout seems a little crowded for my taste but they are trying to maximize their space to accommodate the most people i assume. I was starving and preferred to go and our Airbnb wasn’t far. Delicious! DELICIOUS! Can’t remember the menu names of items we ordered but basically buttermilk battered fried chicken breast and fried wings, corn bread, Mac and cheese, and mash potatoes w/gravy. Corn bread was a little on the dry side but could’ve been an off day. Taste was still on point. Don’t skip out on this place you’ll regret it. Sorry no pictures as I practically inhaled the food.

We were back in Portland this week and decided to make our third visit to the Screen Door. This time we went for lunch which gave us both the lunch and breakfast menus neither of which we had ordered from before. As usual we were not disappointed. The food was awesome. My husband ordered the fried oyster Po boy, which I will have to take his word for when he said it was delicious. I took a huge Leap for me and ordered chicken and waffles. Something I have never eaten and something I’ve laughed at . To my surprise it was indeed delicious. The waffle was crisp and had a rich flavor. It’s a sweet potato waffle, something I’ve also never tried before but I am certainly going to order again. Their fried chicken of course is world famous for a good reason. Somehow the combination of fried chicken sweet potato waffle and maple syrup really is amazing. Who would’ve guessed? All in all we brought enough food home for another meal which we enjoyed the next day. Still our favorite place to eat in Portland

I went there for brunch with my daughter and had the corned beef hash. When it came I almost commented that it was the wrong order. I was expecting something on the order of Hormel canned product. This corned beef was the real deal (think corned beef and cabbage) the potato's were cubed and the seasoning was perfect. The next time I get in town this will definitely be on the list.

Read the reviews on this restaurant couldn’t wait to try it. We got there early, and waited 47 minutes to be seated. Honestly the food was decent but I can’t say it was worth 45 minutes. I’ve had much better food in other areas. I had the chicken and waffles and why the chicken was good the waffles were very hard and cold the butter was not warm so therefore they very crunchy and hard to eat. The hush puppies with bacon they’re OK I’ve had better but they’re not bad. If you have nothing better to do and want to hang around a restaurant waiting to be served, This might be your place otherwise I think there’s other Options that have just as good of food.

Went for brunch on a Sunday was told the weight was 30 minutes. It ended up being over an hour. We’re seated and the wait for the food was another 3040 minutes. Once ordered server was very friendly and nice restaurant very busy. I ordered the fried catfish sandwich, I felt that the catfish was over fried too thick of a batter and the french fries that came with it were just typical frozen shoestring french fries nothing exciting. My husband ordered the biscuits and sausage gravy with a side of eggs. He enjoyed the biscuits in the gravy he thought they were very good, our son ordered the biscuits and sausage gravy as well and he enjoyed them . overall it was decent food but nothing exciting that I would ever wait that long for again.

I wish we had taken pictures of our food to post with this review, but we were too busy eating!! The hush puppies were a great starter and probably our favorite thing we ate. The batter on the chicken had such a great spice blend.

My wife and I had dinner here a few nights ago. And it was truly one of the best dinner date experiences I’ve ever had! The food was out of this world amazing. Cooked to perfection. The apps made with all local ingredients were over the top delicious. And the service was on par with the taste! The entire staff was the friendliest and most accommodating I’ve ever been around. Honest.

Went here for dinner and while parking around the area can be a little bit of a challenge and the waits can be a little long, the food is definitely worth it! The fried chicken and barbecue were both excellent and were a good portion for sharing! A must try for anyone visiting Portland and looking for some good ol’ southern style cooking!

I’m a lover of southern style of cooking their chicken yeah it’s good stuff. Next time my plan is to try the buttermilk fried chicken. They give you decent portions and the staff was was friendly too. The wife and I didn’t leave hungry. Loved the waffles. If you like that southern food look this place up.

casual dining restaurant that has wonderful staff and wonderful food. the gumbo is fabulous! the fried oyster were fresh and delicious. the fried chicken is amazing!! the strawberry shortcake is wonderful!!

For sure recommend any visitors going to Screendoor- everything we had was delicious. The Chicken was seriously the best I've ever had.

We stopped for lunch before our flight. The place was packed and finding parking almost kept us from eating there. We are glad we didn’t give up. As we were about a block away, we smelled the most delicious food, and couldn’t wait to see if it was coming from The Screen Door. We arrived at a good time as I’ve heard the wait can be long. We only had two parties before us to be seated. The crowd was definitely much younger than we are, but no one seemed to notice the two Boomers in the room. It was two days passed Thanksgiving so starting with the pumpkin, apple, cranberry bread pudding was a no-brainer. My husband loves bread puddings and this one he described as amazing. He had the chicken breast in a biscuit with gravy. (There was a clever name attached but I don’t recall it.) I tried it and the biscuit was wonderful. Crispy on the edges, yet soft inside. The side of cheesy grits were delicious. I had the smoked beef hash, and it was definitely what we were smelling. The hash had Brussel sprouts, turnips, beets I believe, as well as potatoes and onions served with warm tortillas and two eggs. It was very good. The service was friendly and very efficient. The ambiance casual and comfortable. I would return again next time we are in Portland.

I'll keep it brief - got the Jambalaya, cornbread, and fried oysters. The fried oysters were very good. The Jambalaya was okay, there were pieces of crawfish shell in the food & the blacked fish on top was a little overcooked & the spices burned. The cornbread was dry.

I could go on and on about how good this food is. The chicken and waffles is my all-time favorite. Where else can you go and get a sweet potato waffle with chicken cooked perfectly every time. The customer services is amazing. I went there during the Covid lockdown for my third time and I am still surprised that the customer service is just as good during a lockdown as it was when they were open. Sometimes I go to Portland just to go to this restaurant and I live four hours away

This place was so much fun and worth the 20 minute wait. We had the fried oysters which were awesome. The fried batter was light and flavorful. The atmosphere was super chic, and all of the employees were dressed hip and attractive. Service was sharp even though the kitchen was very hammered. We had the shrimp and grits and pork Benedict…both were solid. We wished we could live here so we could try more things… but bottom line, if you’re in the area, you his is a must go!

The food was great. The wait was forever. It took an hour to get our food. We were headed forvan event. You might want to check serving time if you have a schedule.

It was fabulous! I was surprised to find the Shrimp & Grits on the breakfast menu, but it was very good...not the same as in South Carolina, but darn good. Now the Chicken & Waffles...that was a different story. it was not only good, the chicken was great! the best bit of breakfast was the Praline Bacon! WOW !!! BRINGS ME ANOTHER!!! Our Waiter was great... when we left I told him, "you have made me a happy man"... He said, "that is what we do here!" And he was right! While I am not a big fan of long lines or long waits, you will likely see me in line next time I am in the Portland Area... it will be worth it all again!

I was quite disappointed in this restaurant having lived in Georgia for a number of years. The fryed chicken was particularly disappointing. The breasts are skinless and when fryed they steamed within the battered. Perhaps because of the absence of batter there was noting for the batter to adhere to during the frying process and it slipped off the breasts when the breasts were served. All things considered it was not a good value. The service was good.

Splendid friendly but unobtrusive service. Appetizers of light batter-dipped okra (superb) and oysters (good). Delicious solid, not soupy, jambalaya—rice scented with smoked oysters and sausage, topped with crispy rockfish. Chicken tenders with choice of side dishes, including wonderful wild mushroom tart and mint flecked delicata squash. Cheesecake dessert just fine. Packed by 6 pm on a rainy Tuesday. Get a reservation!

We did not wait long and the service was friendly. Food was delicious. Loved the black eyed pea fritters & pecan pie- amazing.

Consistently the best breakfast in Portland! Our favs are the chicken and sweet potato waffles. And the grits are DIVINE! Great servers, luscious drinks from a full bar. Now that they take reservations, we will be able to go back way more often!!

I only had the Shrimp and Grits brunch, but it was the absolute the best meal I've had in years. The eggs were orange (like free ranged), the sauce was amazing, plus bacon, and cheese grits. I will definitely eat there again when I'm in Portland, Oregon. Service and such were also very good. Absolutely worth trying to find parking for. (Portland city parking is a nightmare.) Oh, and the place was full when I arrived, so good sign.

So you have company from out of town? So you want a great place for lunch? So you want a great place for dinner? So you want a really tasty Bloody Mary? So you want a relaxing, fun, neighborhood restaurant with awesome food....head to the Screen Door. Be there when it opens for either lunch and/or dinner so you can get right in. Service is outstanding. Timing for food delivery is great. Wait staff friendly and pleasant. and the food is fantastic. Not for dieters, thats for sure. But the best fried chicken around. And don't leave out any of the side dishes. Everything is good. Enjoy and have fun

Went with my brother for brunch and it was excellent. Quick service despite them being busy. Good service and menu options fine except only one vegan option. Would definitely recommend if you are in the area

After reading the reviews we knew there would be long lines and a wait so after we called and found out how long the line would be, we just went ahead and ordered our food for takeout. And it worked perfectly! We ordered online and they gave us a time for pickup, when we arrived it was ready and waiting for us. The line was out the door and wait time was about 45 minutes to an hour. But since we ordered ahead we had our food in hand, just took it to a local park. We ordered the pecan bacon, it was amazing! We also ordered Bananas Foster French toast, shrimp and grits, biscuits and gravy & eggs benedict. They did not disappoint! Everything was nicely presented even in the to-go containers, and the flavors were amazing! If the thought of long lines turns you off, just order ahead and take the food with you. You would be so glad you did!

We went close to close, so were really just in it for the food. We did notice a cute, welcoming atmosphere that felt very comforting, especially with an attentive staff- the bartender that served us was very sweet. My boyfriend and I split a waffle with two pieces of chicken and not only was it a pretty decent sized portion to split, but it. was. amazing. I rarely feel compelled to rate a restaurant, but I also rarely enjoy chicken and waffle meal, and here I am raving. The waffle was deliciously cinnamon-hinted and the chicken was wonderfully seasoned. I consider this cute corner a Portland must!

Well, the title says it all! We came late morning on a Weds so were lucky enough to have no wait. There was a great buzz in the place and the staff were super friendly and just the right amount of attentive. I could have ordered everything on the menu, it all looked so awesome. I settled on the famous chicken and waffles and my husband the veggie hash with a side of chicken tenders. It was hands down the best brunch I have ever had, the chicken was succulent with the perfect breaded outer crunch. I was in heaven and every mouthful was better than the last! My husband thoroughly enjoyed his too and we left with very full tums and so happy we heard about this place!

Stopped in for brunch and everything was delicious. I often hesitate to try southern food when I'm not in the south, but boy, I'm glad I tried this one. The cheese grits were the BEST I've ever had, including ones I've eaten in South Carolina, Louisiana and Georgia. While it was very crowded when we visited, our wait for a table was short and service was quick and very friendly.

Amazing. We started with the praline bacon. The hubs loved it, I thought it was tasty but a little too sweet. Then we had the chicken and sweet potato waffles - OMG so good. This has ruined chicken and waffles for me forever. Set the bar very high. Food and service both A+. Only negative was parking, pack your patience.

I eat a lot and I could not finish my meal here- would have loved the left overs but were on our way to the airport. As with other places, folks in Portland take their brunch/breakfast serious so be prepared to wait (our wait was only 45 mins, we hear thats short). Screen Door comes highly recommended and the quality of food explains why. Service could have been better, but that's only if you're a stickler. The prices were also very fair I thought.

We made a reservation ahead of time so we got seated quickly so I would recommend that on the weekend. It is a very loud and small space. The service was really great! The server took our drink order and food order at the same time. The Bloody Mary was spicy and good. The food took 50 minutes to come out. But, it was VERY busy. The food was fresh and good. The chicken tenders were hand battered and spicy and the house made ranch was so good. My mom loved her banana foster French toast and my dad got a mushroom scramble with cheese grits and loved it. This is a fun place to come try at least once.

4 of us went to Screen Door for brunch on a Saturday at 12:30. We had about a 45 minute wait which was fine seeing that it was a beautiful sunny day, but if it had been a cold, rainy day there really wouldn't have been a place to wait. We were brought in and seated at a table. Be prepared, the have customers packed in like sardines! Now for the food. Two of us ordered the Scorn Door specialty, Chicken and Waffles. You can choose 1, 2, or 3 pieces of boneless chicken to go with your sweet potato waffle.I chose 1 piece and it was more then enough. I also asked to have mine on a praline waffle instead of the sweet potato waffle it comes with.YUMMY. !!! It is worth it to splurge on the $3 real maple syrup too. This was the best breakfast I have ever had. Waffle was warm and crusty, just the way I like them and it was topped with a large boneless piece of peppery, fried chicken. So good!! Others at our table had praline waffle topped with a piece of praline bacon, to die for. we also ordered the cat head biscuit. Silly name but it was a biscuit with egg, sausage gravy, and chicken. Delicious as well. Awesome food, you won't be disappointed.

ok for lunch. staff very nice. Food was passable., although a little expensive. For the west, not bad southern fare. Skip the okra.

Long lines no reservations to eat greasy southern food in a place that could really use some ungrading

This review is for the Screen Door at the Portland airport. We couldn't find a way to review it so this will have to work! First of all, the food is very, very good! The service is also outstanding, especially the waitress named Sam. The drinks were very reasonably priced, for being in the airport. I had the chicken sandwich and could barely even eat it all. I can't say enough about this restaurant. Please give kudos to the management for Sam's excellent service.

This restaurant was recommended by a coworker and since we were forewarned that seating can take a bit (because it’s so good!!) I felt fortunate that we were a large group of 7 and were able to make a reservation weeks ahead (though there are rules - so check that out ahead of time!!) The food was beyond amazing. Having just revelry retuned from New Orleans - we were craving some of that southern comfort food and the Screen Door didn’t dispppoint!! The food was delicious, the servers were helpful, prompt and attentive, and the atmosphere was cozy and welcoming. My only wish was that I could have eaten more - but the portions were so filling that I couldn’t try everything on everyone’s plates! I tried the fried chicken, catfish, oysters and several sides. The jambalaya was delicious and my hubby’s smoked/Bbq’d brisket was the best we’ve ever had. And we’ve had our share of BBQ! I did, however, take my dessert to go - and a few hours later - I was so glad I did! We will definitely be back!

Great food and terrific service! I always come here for the chicken and waffles and I've never been disappointed!

I really loved Screen Door. The atmosphere was great and was matched by the food. Great menu with lots of choices, plus very good service.
