Great food, good price, fair portions. The ordering and pick up are kinda weird. The people are friendly and it's clean.

So we went here for lunch and this sea island has been here for 30 years so I expected it to be a little run down but it’s in good shape and the menus changed a bit and it’s a little expensive but that’s ok all in all a pretty good visit

My wife and I stopped in for dinner since we love seafood. We didn't expect to find the place didn't have a wait staff, but we ordered anyway, got a paging device and waited for our order to be ready for me to go up and get. We began with splitting a cup of clam chowder. It was very tasty, the only tasty item we ordered. She ordered shrimp linguine and I order a shrimp feast - three different ways of preparing shrimp. It came with hush puppies that absolutely no resemblance to corn. Each of the shrimp choices in my dinner had either a bland taste or one that was a bit off-putting. My wife liked that fact that the shrimp in her linguine were larger than most. However, it was made of a wine sauce rather than an Alfredo sauce she's used to. All in all, we finished our meals, but the taste won't get us to return.

The menu offers variety of grilled, fried & blackened seafood. I think they also offer chicken & burgers. The food is always fresh, service is good & prices are better. The grilled shrimp skewers are a must try ! The 40 yr. anniversary is wonderful. The gumbo is always flavorful ~ ceviche is okay ~not good not bad.

My kids wanted seafood when we went to visit San Antonio and I did not think I would find anything good but I was very lucky and fortunate to run into this place. Food was very very good the service was excellent everybody was very kind and I would highly recommend this place for families.

My husband, daughter and I are kinda becoming big time foodies. Every time we go on a mini vacation, we try to venture out and try new restaurants; especially those that have high ranks through tripadvisor. Today we tried the Sea Island Shrimp House for dinner. The first impression of the restaurant was clean. And while the restrooms were extremely clean there was a funky musty smell around the soda machine which I think can be taken care of and is really no big deal breaker. As for the menu, we wanted to try different recommended items so we opted for the 50 Year Sampler (Fish, charbroiled shrimp, and fried shrimp), Lightly battered fish and added on a side of crab legs. We chose okra and steamed vegetables as the sides. I think we all agreed that the fish was the best dish here. The crab legs and shrimp were all good but nothing that was really spectacular. While this is an overall good restaurant, I think we will only be returning for some of their fish fillets.

Seafood is perfectly prepared and fresh! I love the charbroiled shrimp but the fried shrimp and oysters are good too. Hush puppies are out of this world. The spinach is seasoned well with just the right amount of garlic. Highly recommend.

Consistently good food. However, I tried the ceviche and found it to have too much lime juice. I couldn't eat very much of it. I did enjoy the ample serving of the New Zealand crunchy fish. And the onion rings and hush puppies were outstanding. The staff was friendly and helpful but for someone new to the restaurant the ordering and seating process is confusing. I sometimes get confused myself and I have been there several times. The atmosphere is very relaxing and casual. Great place to enjoy family and friends.

I am a seafood lover but I have never had such an assortment of food for such a low price. I had a smorgasbord of shrimp - on a skewer, fried, grilled, tail on, etc. It was all shrimp and I could not have been happier. Here is the kicker, not only did I have a shrimp feast, but my husband had a fish and shrimp meal and we paid for my niece's full meal as well. 3 adult meals under $40 - who does this??? Everything was good. The fried shrimp were meaty and the level of breading was just right. The skewer was a challenge but once I got them babies off the skewer it was a good eat! No complaints about any of the food at all. I wish they had locations in my city, I'd go out to eat more often. I used to go to a much more expensive restaurant but once I found this place I will never do family dining anywhere else. It has a homey atmosphere, almost rustic with hardy wooden tables and chairs - no high marks for the furnishings but the food makes you forget about the hard seats. Anytime I can get a bevy of seafood for 3 people at this price I have to share it - good quality seafood, good size portions, the low price does not impact the goodness. Bring the kids, the parents, the spouse and some friends - it's that affordable! Oh, the parking lot is a challenge but only because the locals know a good thing when they find it.

When I visited San Antonio over the years, I usually stopped by Sea Island. Now, that I live here -- Yay! -- I eat there at least, twice a month. After all these years, I am still not disappointed. Excellent choices of fish, preparations, and portions. Once you understand how service works -- ordering first, getting your drinks and tables -- it is easy. Line and/or wait is not long. Not fancy, but for the prices it is clean and cared for. The people who work there are upbeat, efficient, and welcoming. My favorite person is Ricky, who cleans the tables, will get drinks for you, or grab a take-out box. A great person!

Any time we are in this part of Texas my wife is insistent we visit a Sea Island. We have been customers for a very long time and never get disappointed. Took some friends we were visiting this trip and had a typically good experience. This is not a fancy smancy eatin' place, but it is very well run and has lots of room for large groups if needed or choose a small table somewhere for more intimate visits. Good variety of excellent seafood. Try it!!

The daughter is hooked on Sea Island Shrimp House so we find one when passing through San Antonio. There is a little bit of a line but it moves fast then you have many choices of seafood. It's delicious!

Out shopping with my wife one day and felt a little lunchy. We kept looking for a place to eat but everything seemed kinda plain. So we found this place and gave it a shot. I believe this is the best sea food in sa. We have been to papadeauxs and several other sea food places and they don't compare to this place in the middle of Texas. If I'm ever in San Antonio and I want sea food this is the place I'm going to!

Sea Island has been one of our favorite restaurants in San Antonio. “No fuss fresh “seafood. However, on this visit we were disappointed. Due to Covid, they have done away with many of my favorites. I can’t eat fried food which made my choices slim. I chose their charbroiled Shrimp on a skewer which is quite popular. My shrimp was overdone and the breading fell off, my sides were rice pilaf and hot green beans. I loved their cold green beans. The hot green beans were inedible for me as I can’t have spice. The rice had no flavor. My husband said the fried fish was the same and still good. Although, they have updated their restaurant, it is still old and tired . It appears dirty. Their other locations are more updated and I’ll try those. I do hope they bring their full menu back including their gumbo!

This is a humble fish house behind North Star Mall has been serving the freshest, tastiest fish in town for nearly 50 years. It is always good. I have had lunch there once a week with an old buddy for the past 15 years and we have no intention of changing restaurants. He orders the fish sandwich/shrimp gumbo combo and i try different dishes: broiled salmon (perfectly cooked), ceviche, grilled or fried shrimp. it is not a fancy place, not by a long shot. Diners stand in line, place their order, grab a buzzer, then find an empty table. A short while later, the buzzer goes off, we pick up our order, then enjoy a fish meal that is unmatched anywhere else in SA. The restaurant staff have such a good attitude; we can hear laughter coming form the kitchen and from the serving area. There's a positive energy and happy vibe that makes the food taste even better.

Tonight, Oct. 8, my wife and I celebrated her birthday eating at Sea Island. It has been a while since we ate there, and have things really changed. The tables are smaller and socially distance from each other. The food is brought to your table. And there are servers roaming the dinning area offering help to anyone who needs it. Everyone was polite and courteous. The food was outstanding. For starters, we had their Mexican Shrimp Cocktail. It was the best we've ever had there. My wife had a fish plate and really enjoyed it. However, the spinach wasn't all that great. She took a couple of bytes of it and that was all. I had their 12 piece lot-of-shrimp and the shrimp was perfect. It was hot and well cooked. My sincere complements to the chief. They did not have a physical menu, however, they did have a means whereby you could bring it up on your smartphone. Of course they did have their menu posted behind the counter where you order your food. I highly recommend this Sea Island for seafood. We most certainly will be going back.

We had really been looking forward to having a sea food meal-especially Gumbo. The staff is always very personable and helpful. We were pretty disappointed though. The food was just warm-not hot like we had hoped for-especially since the weather had been pretty chilly lately.

Surprise, Surprise. We finally returned to a Sea Island Shrimp House for a dinner meal. Been about a year since their fiasco outlays drove us away. Hooray for mgt getting quality back. I had the grilled lemon pepper fish and shrimp and my wife just the lemon fish. We thoroughly enjoyed these entrees. The fish was done with slight breading on a couple of sumptuous fillet portions.

Food is always constantly excellent and service is fast less than 15 minutes most times. Large variety of items including crab.

Were there for lunch this Saturday. It is by far the worst Sea Island place I have ever been to. I know many other Sea Island places but this one will never go back It is dirty all around, old, very old place, maybe 30 years and in a great need of change. Floor dirty and sticky. The table was super dirty with food left overs. Just a bad place to go !!! Avoid it !!!

1st timer from Indiana. Wow this place was outstanding. Grabbed a cold one while standing in line. Ordered food and it was delivered to our table. Omg great. Very reasonable prices. Not a fancy place but the food was outstanding. I would highly recommend this place.

My family has been eating at Sea Island since moving to San Antonio, 15 years ago. The food is always good and the portions are plenty! Always clean, and atmosphere is "family centered". Prices are very reasonable and it's where you get more "bang for your buck" if you wish to eat seafood. I've been to the Rector location, but prefer the Bandera Rd. local, because it's newer!

We dine weekly at a seafood restaurant. we have visited 4 locations on a regular basis, and find the food to taste great at all 4 Atmosphere different at all 4 locations, but consistently friendly service Priced fair. Wish menu would include scallops, more soup and fish variations. My husband and I never eat alone there, family members always seem to join us at Sea Island!

Ordered the broiled catfish, added a skewer of chargrilled shrimp. Came with 2 sides - huge house salad and cup of hot green beans. All very tasty. Stuffed. Ordering was easy, and super nice staff. Really good food and nice restaurant inside.

What a great place to have some wonderfully prepared seafood in a relaxed atmosphere. There is a variety of cooking methods and options but being a southern gal I went for the #20 with fries and okra. The shrimp was crispy and huge, delicious oysters and flaky whitefish. And they got the sweet tea right. My eyes were bigger than my stomach and I could not come even close to eating my meal- meaning the portions are huge. You won’t be disappointed to come here and have great food and great service! We even met the owner- how sweet!!!

One of the most delicious restaurant in town Since 1990 every time in San Antonio we really enjoy this famous restaurant.

I expected much more. Somewhat mushy shrimp. Heavy breading on everything. Essentially self service - "waiters" clear table and expect tip. Paper napkins and forks - no knives. Must be the large portions and moderate prices that makes it so popular.

This restaurant has a good variety of food and daily specials that are delicious. You order your food, wait for the hand held "buzzer", pick it up at the counter and go to the seats where the hostess had previously seated you. Service was fairly quick and the food was worth any wait.

Good seafood at a very reasonable price. We stop by here almost everytime we are in town. I really like their crunchy fish fillets for $8.99 and my wife got the Senior Grill Shrimp platter for $7.99 and a cup of Shrimp gumbo for $3.99. All the food was served hot and was delicious. Chrissy Anthony, co-founder since 1965, came by and checked to make sure everything was good.

Very fresh food which takes time to prepare. But it is worth it. Several specials are always available. Their fried seafood is exceptional, but so too is there broiled selection which I prefer. Hushpuppies are a little thick and require a get beverage to slog down. Nevertheless, I keep coming back. Watch out at mealtime or the line can get quite long. You have to stand in line to order and then you get called for a table once one is available. Parting thought: Although this is primarily a seafood joint, don't pass up the steak kabobs, which are fabulous!

Not just hype. This place gets it done when it comes to fast seafood. Got there 11:00 sharp, by 11:20 the place was packed. The locals have the system down pat. Had to figure out the beverage situation, which is a serve yourself bar off to the side. Got a variety of dishes between the two of us. All good!

I love this restaurant -- their fried shrimp is soo fresh and wonderful!!! All of their sides are extremely tasty. I go to the restaurant behind North Star Mall on Rector -- very popular for lunch and dinner!!! Try their shrimp salad on avocado - fabulous! I love their gumbo too!!!

Wow - fresh, delicious seafood! My son had steak skewers and they were wonderful - marinated to perfection and perfectly tender! Rochelle (hostess) was a delight. This place is counter service only (no waitresses) but the servers were so helpful and efficient. This location is fantastic and a fun place to visit

Food and service was amazing. Definitely recommend this place. We ordered the lemon fish, lemon shimp, stuffed shrimp, coconut shrimp and all was so amazing. The staff were so attentive and polite.

One of my husband and I seafood place in town. I love combo fried braded shrimp and fish. So fresh. Not too pricey. Great customer service.

Stopped in because of the reviews and weren't disappointed. This place had the cheapest oysters and they were very fresh!! The seafood that we ordered was average to a little bit better but I would come back for the oysters alone!!

Had an order of Oysters on the half shell Delicious every one ☝️ 😊 the shrimp are fantastic also. You order at the counter and get your beeper and then munch time

I've dined at this location many times. The food is always fresh. I always order the Charbroiled Shrimp, coleslaw and cold green beans. Love the cold green beans! You get 15 skewered shrimp. Coleslaw has been dry a few times, but I send it back and they get it right. Very filling though. I must mention...I went to the Forum Sea Island and the food was better. They took the time to wrap the shrimp in foil which kept them warm. I wish the Rector location would do this. Overall, Sea Island is great.

This is one of the best every day places to eat in central Texas. Family run and they do a terrific job.

Went for late lunch, but still a good number of people , popular place been there I know 40 years and always had been pleased but this last time not so , the employee in front are very knowledgeable and friendly price is ok , tea is great and get all the lemons you want it is self serve but when I got my food it was cold and the fish was way undercooked actually partial raw and heard other say their fish wasn’t cooked so I probley won’t go back again and have been many times in the last 40 years it’s a shame 1 bad cook? Can ruin my thoughts of a once good place oh and it could be cleaned a little more and restrooms are like old gas station 4

Great little casual Shrimp House that looks like a Shrimp boat! Must try the oysters...cold and delicious. Of course all the Shrimp dishes are very good and priced moderately.

When we come to the city, we almost always choose this seafood eatery. It's the original one of the chain and we've NEVER been disappointed in any of our choices.

A kid friendly place that all ages enjoy! The food is delicious and the service is great! Try it, you'll enjoy it!

This was my 4th trip to Sea Island Shrimp House, although it had been about 1 yr since my last visit. When in San Antonio area we always try to check this place out. Every time, cuz it is just so good. They have a big menu with plenty of choices. You order at a counter inside the door, then take your drink and a seat. They soon call you to pick up your food. I nearly always get Shrimp. Lots of shrimp, like 20 or more. Coconut, fried, grilled, and skewered! All on one plate. They must have 20 sides, I chose corn and spinich this time. Do not go there without trying that spinich, as it is fabulous. The meals come with two hush puppies which are fresh, crispy, and gooood! Mmmm. I just love this place, always a great treat. Thanks.

This was a pleasant surprise. You need to order at the counter, then they give you a table. Not a place for those who like to be served but if this doesn't bother you, the food is well worth ordering at the counter. We went with friends we hadn't seen in a long time so afterwards we just sat and visited, without feeling the pressure that we needed to leave.

Food was just so so and our order was not correct but was too far to take back. This is the second time this has happened and we will not be going back. Although during Lent there are not a lot of choices in San Antonio.

Fantastic find. At 2:30 pm on a Wednesday, this restaurant was still jumping. You walk in the restaurant and then place your order, then go sit down. I ordered the 50 year favorites. Quickly received a cup of gumbo that was quite delicious. Plenty of shrimp in the gumbo. The plate had 4 fried shrimp, a skewer of flame charred lemon pepper shrimp, all of which were super tasty. Fried fish was so so. I am sure the fried catfish has much better flavor. Plenty of sides. I picked the fried okra for a small up charge and the spinach. Both of which were absolutely tasty. I was super happy to find this restaurant. As a final comment, the hotel Van driver told me that he used to get out of high school early so he could go have lunch there. It's easy to see why this restaurant has been a tradition in the town since 1964. Easy to see why. Super choice for seafood.

First time I have been to Sea Island Shrimp House. The staff are very friendly and helpful. It is a order at the counter place but very well organized and someone to help you if you have question. I had the Shrimp Salad which is not on the menu, but is a locals favorite, served on avocado. Good hushpuppies. Very reasonably priced. Will go back any time I see one.

I ordered take out and the ordering process was easy, food was ready when they said. I ordered the "40 year favorites" which was all good! Thick fish filet, large fried shrimp, great tasting gumbo and their signature lemon pepper shrimp.. YUMMY! I also ordered the calamari which was classic rings, no tentacles :) and a key lime pie slice to finish it off. We spent less here on our entire meal than we did for two yucky cheeseburger meals at sea world! This is a must try. If you don't want to wait for a table it's best to order take out.

The ordering system here is interesting and a bit confusing needlessly complicated. Essentially your order first, then they call you number for your table, and after you have been seated they call your number for your food--confusing. I live in Florida and even in Orlando our seafood is always pretty good and fresh. The seafood here was good, but it was up to Florida standards but was still good. I got the 7 giant shrimp platter, but they were average size shrimp. The fries were OK, not great, but ok.

We go here about three times a month. Took my office here for Christmas lunch and they loved it. Everything was served fresh and hot. Love the “50 Year Favorite”.

Had the fried butterflied jumbo shrimp. The shrimp was perfectly cooked and tasted great. The Cole slaw was also very good. Nothing fancy. Just very good food. It was our first visit but will definitely go back.

as a san Antonio native I have going there off and on since it opened last time I was disappointed the prices were higher and the food was not so good both my wife and I had the senior shrimp. the shrimp was small 7 shrimp in all for $ 12.00. I had a cup of shrimp gumbo which had no shrimp in it but had lot of celery and okra. Place was noisier than usual. probably my last time there.

This is a blue jeans place, not your Sunday best. Reminds me of NanSeas in Mobile, AL which is gone. The food is very good and the crab is outstanding!!! And I must add they have the best Key Lime Pie I have ever had- and I have had years of research. If in the area I highly recommend this restaurant. The locals swarm here as should you .

I went here due to the good reviews. I had a steak and it tasted as if it had been cooked frozen. My sons fish was very fishy tasting. My husbands fish was ok. Slaw was good. Hush puppies were good. Bread with steak was a hoggie bun. Don't waste your money on this place. 80 dollars wasted. Search for another destination.

Not only is it a top value, but there are several of the franchise around the city. All of the dishes are excellent and it's obvious that everything is very fresh. These restaurants are "fast-casual." No tipping is necessary.

Ran in tonight on a tight schedule and not only received a really tasty Diablo shrimp & fish. SI substituted a really nice Greek salad for the rice. Green beans were super tasty too. Shrimp is medium size but oh so well prepared. Outstanding choice to get a great meal.

Their charbroiled shrimp is worth waiting for. Their hush puppies, fries, green beans or rice are all delicious. This place is an old standby that the locals know and love. It is often that you will be waiting outside for a table. And people don't care because they know it's worth it. Also, worth noting...shrimp salad is awesome...stuffed shrimp outstanding, seafood platter always a hit, and anything chargrilled is delicious. When I come visit, this is always the place I request to go to. They also take to go orders.

We were looking for a good, local seafood place on our recent trip to San Antonio. After reading good reviews, we thought we'd give this a try. So glad we did! The atmosphere is very laid back, order at the counter and they call your number. We had fresh oysters, peel and eat shrimp and some of the best lemon pepper fish and shrimp ever-very unique preparation. Definitely need to stop by if you are in the area, we'll definitely be back next time we are there.

Enjoyed late lunch last Saturday at Sea Island Shrimp House on Rector. First time at this location, but enjoyed the same high quality seafood that we have has at two other locations in San Antonio. The restaurant was packed at 2pm, but it only took about 15 minutes for our food to be prepared. The stuffed shrimp, stuffed with crabmeat and deep fried are awesome. The atmosphere is fun and very family friendly. I would highly recommend this restaurant over the familiar chain restaurants. Prices are very good for fresh seafood.

Actually not certain which of their locations we were at last night but it is just a fun, casual place to get great seafood. Clean, nice seating, extremely personable and pleasant staff. My chipotle fish tacos were excellent, my husband's shrimp cookeed very well.

I have been to Sea Island before but today learned for the first time that if you want your order with a lower salt content you must specify so when ordering. For example, there are 2 types of Lemon Pepper seasoning, one with salt and one without. Same goes for other dishes. So if you want a lower salt dish, you must specify it on ordering as everything gets seasoned when it is being cooked. I do wish they would place this information on their menu especially today when many people are trying to cut back on salt. If it was there on the menu, I didn't notice it.

We have eaten several times at different locations of this restaurant on trips to San Antonio as we enjoy their seafood and there is not a Sea Island in our city. My husband likes to order the shrimp and I enjoy their catfish and vegetables. But this time I decided to eat their senior meal of fried white fish. Will order my catfish again next time as I found the fish filet to be rather flavorless and like it had set under a heat lamp for a while. The rice, spinach and hush puppies were good as always. My husband had senior shrimp meal that he said was just ok. Will be back again but will order the regular catfish, not the cheaper senior meal....

We eat here often when we are in the city. It's always fresh tasting and never a long wait for your food. There's a decent menu and grilled seafood if you don't want battered/fried. You place your order, take a "buzzer" and wait till it sounds. Then you retrieve your meal. No fancy stuff here.

I've been coming here for the 50 years they've been around. Although I don't live in SA any longer came with my Mom while on a visit. Had the seafood platter with two kinds of fish filets, stuffed shrimp, fried shrimp and oysters. Quite good. Not heavy or greasy, sides whew excellent too. Wanted the chargrilled shrimp too but it was like a 30 minute wait, so pass this time. Can't go wrong here! GB

We dine here on nearly every visit to SA. Being landlocked in the Midwest, we don't have access to quality, reasonable seafood. The menu here is pretty basic--mostly fried or broiled fish and shrimp dishes, but everything we've had has been fresh and tasty. Don't be put off by having to order at the counter--quality of food here is just as good or even better than sit-down seafood places in the same price range.

Daughter had the grilled chicken and loved it. Fried okra was fantastic. Fried whitefish and tarter sauce were great. Personally I didn't care for the stuffed shrimp or hushpuppies.

We wanted to go back and get some fried seafood. We got innovative and we each chose two seafoods and shared our orders. Unfortunately we both ordered shrimp so we could only share the huge fish filet and the fried oysters. All were excellent for the price. You won't get sit down service or luxurious surroundings but you should not go hungry or break the bank eating here. Probably the biggest negative is the crowded drive to find parking. If you are smart and don't mind walking a few more steps just pull into the parking area next to the restaurant. We will go back again.

I recently had lunch with my husband and another couple. The food tasted very fresh, the service was great, and we could not have been more pleased. The 4 of us dined for about $42. I will definitely visit the restaurant on future trips to San Antonio.

My wife thinks it's funny but I have to stop at sea Island every time we go through San Antonio. Just my kind of food, tasty grilled and fried seafood and top notch service. I always get an extra grilled shrimp skewer.

The folks at the food pick up station are asleep at the switch. No silverware. No tartar sauce. No shrimp sauce. Food is still terrific but definitely some training in order for the staff.

I used to love Sea Island, so I was excited to be back in San Antonio and have the opportunity to have dinner there. It was as I remembered - busy and friendly people. No problems there. The issue was the food. I had a half dozen oysters, which were okay, but didn't appear fresh. Then the chargrilled shrimp. It was really mediocre. I would have expected this food from a fast food place. I was so disappointed. The prices had also risen, so needless to say I wouldn't have called this a good value. It wasn't inedible. It just wasn't good. I'll probably try again, but it has to be better next time, otherwise it will be my last.

Went here based on other reviews. Food was excellent and priced were great. Had the grilled trout and hush puppies.

Went to Sea Island for the second time on a trip to San Antonio. This location is near the mall. If you like great seafood this is the place. Especially for their namesake specialty: SHRIMP!. I had a 20 shrimp platter with several different varieties, fried, skewered, coconut, lemon-peppered, grilled. Each was very good. A friend had the flounder and it was excellent as well. You place your order up front at a counter, then find a seat. The call your # out or page you when food is ready. It was a busy Friday night but we only waited about 15 minutes for our meal. Great selection of drinks, beers, etc. The sides are good, too. I had fries and some spinich (which was excellent!). Give 'em a try sometime.

The last few times we have eaten at one of their establishments we have not been completely satisfied. Quantity remains consistent, but quality/taste seems lacking.

Came here for lunch today. I'm sitting here waiting for them to redo my order. We ordered our food and sat down to wait. When it came out I thought hmmm, that doesn't look like what I ordered so I glanced back at my receipt. Sure enough the order was wrong. So my husband was almost done with his food by the time mine came out....wrong again. Not a fan.

This one of my favorite seafood restaurants in San Antonio. The food is constantly good and reasonably priced, and the informal approach to service eliminates the need for tipping.

Our family tradition is to try and get together every Sunday after church. One of the favorites for many years is Sea Island in Rector Street. From 5 years old to 93 years old we feasted on fried shrimp, hush puppies, seafood salad, hamburgers, french fries and corn on the cob today. Great food, family and great service. Delicious.

This place appears to have been in business for decades. You order and pay before you get your food. You pickup your meal when they call your number. Seat yourself and serve yourself. The food was excellent specially for the price. Very nice and excellent value.

Just had an amazing shrimp salad, placed atop an avocado and garnished with baby carrots, half a boiled egg, lemon wedges and nice sized celery stick. The salad had shrimp, shrimp shrimp mixed with celery, boiled egg and just enough mayonnaise to keep it together. The plate also comes in two sizes: small and large and crackers accompany it. Absolutely perfect for lunch in the small size or large is good for a dinner serving.

The restaurant is always spotless. The menu selections are numerous and everything is great! The lemon pepper grilled fish is wonderful. Wish I knew how they cook their spinach. Been going here 12 years and never had a bad (or cold) meal.

Service was good, friendly staff. Food was good, good size portions. Had the shrimp platter, every type of shrimp was good. Will definitely stop by again, when in town.

This was probably my 5th trip to Sea Island Shrimp House, the original, in San Antonio. Found this place once upon a time when leaving the NorthStar Mall. We've been going back every trip to San Antonio now for the 4th or 5th time. It never fails to impress. Shrimp is of course the main attraction, but they have nearly every type of seafood that you can imagine. Always prepared fresh and reasonably quickly, even late on this Sunday evening. I had a combo plate of fried shrimp, a couple of crab stuffed shrimp and a fried whitefish filet. All of it super good. The filet was so large I shared some of it with my friend. The stuffed shrimp were very large and the crab stuffing was simply delicious. Spinach and a small corn cob completed the plate, as well as two delicious hush puppies. Others in the group had flounder and shrimps. No one was disappointed and the portions are very generous it is hard to eat it all. All the servers and order taker were friendly and engaging and attentive. Wonderful seafood in wonderful surroundings. Good location and plenty of parking. Be back next year, too, I hope!

A nice middle ground between fast food and expensive sea food. They have an extensive selection of fried, grilled and charbroiled sea food, as well as some non-seafood entrees.

After having lunch at the Sea Island on IH 10 and being told they had great hamburgers. I went to the Sea Island on Rector. I arrived around 7:30, driving around the parking lot two times, finally found a parking place. People were standing all around waiting to get a table. I was ordering take out, so thought it would not be so bad. I got my order 45 min. later!!!! I really think they lost it or forgot it. I was given a piece of Key Lime Pie. The hamburger and onion rings were fantastic. I will return, but much earlier in the day!!!!!

My family and I had our family vacation in San Antonio and we ate here for dinner after leaving Sea World. When we first walked in we were not seated and were told to order at the counter, pay and pick up our food at the serving counter when our buzzer goes off. So I thought the customer service would be bad and I prefer to be seated and have my food brought to the table. So I thought it would be a bad experience. I was really surprised! The waiters made sure we had everything we needed, very friendly and the food was very fresh! Excellent taste, seasoned to perfection and great value. 5 of us ate and had enough to take back to the hotel for $56!

We ordered to go. Two piece fish with rice and, 3 piece fish with coleslaw. Shrimp plate W/ fries and green beans. Three of us got sick. We had stomach cramps and trips to the bathroom. One was a 1 year old. My son believes the fish was spoiled. I kept saying it tasted gross. So I only ate half a piece of fish and still managed to get sick. The coleslaw was bland but that didn't cause us to be ill. I'm the only one that ate coleslaw. The rice was bland. The green beans had a strong flavor maybe the bacon. I normally love their green beans but not last night. The person that ate the shrimp plater. Was fine. He said it was okay but hated the coleslaw. We all used to eat the panko bread crumb fish and we always enjoyed it. But after Covid sea island stopped serving it.

Amazing selection of different seafood items, reasonably priced and good service. Majority of items fried, but that's normal and most popular. Generous portions for price.

My family has been eating at Sea Island longer than I care to admit. For the old SA residents, I will say that it was a regular stop after visiting Frost Bros. No longer living in SA, but visiting frequently, it is still a place we enjoy, as do friends we bring along. Our most recent visit was before the dinner rush, but it was still busy. We are not much for long waits anymore, but back "in the day" we patiently waited an hour and a half, or more to eat here. It was worth the wait, and it is still the same great food, and service. It is so good to see a local business like this - one with a consistently good product that is able to outlast & outshine the big chains.

Let me first off start by saying that the pictures on the website looked like nothing we were served. We went to the location off of loop 410. My husband and I both ordered the Aransas pass platter. We didn't get the wonderfully breaded piece of fish or golden fried shrimp we saw on the website. Instead we got frozen pieces of shrimp and a typical square piece of fish you find in the freezer isle. The coleslaw we ordered was bland , and our fries were greasy. My husband ordered an app....ceviche. It too was awful, not appetizing looking at all. It looked like tofu mix with green salsa. I for one will NEVER eat there again. I wished that I had taken pictures of my food to show the BIG difference in the food.

Good food, we wanted to get away from the crowded downtown area but still get the taste of a local restaurant. I would recommend if you have a taste for something fried.

We visit San Antonio often, and usually include a lunch or dinner at Sea Island. For inexpensive and tasty sea food, it's perfect. Casual atmosphere, wait on yourself, but really good food and plenty of it. Can handle couples and groups. Highly recommend it!

My family has been eating at this restaurant for 30 years, and the wonderful thing is that the food tastes just the same as I remember it tasting as a kid. People unfamiliar with the restaurant may not like the ordering procedure, but once you get the hang of it, it is no big deal. There is typically a line to place your order, once that is done, you give your number to the hostess and wait for it to be called to be seated. You buzzer will then buzz when your food is ready and you pick it up at the counter. It can get crowded, but the food is worth the wait. Everything here is simply prepared, yet excellent, from the shrimp gumbo, to the shrimp salad, fried fish, fried shrimp, you can't go wrong with anything on the menu. The Lotta-Shrimp Platter always puts a smile on my face. The cole slaw is the best around. One item people may not think to order at a seafood place is the beef shish kabob, which is fabulous. I have friends who live in San Antonio who have never been here because it is not a chain, so they wouldn't think of going. If you havent been, go. The food is excellent, reasonably priced, and you will come back. I have been coming back, for about 30 years!

We took a family member who has suffered from birth with Cerebral Palsy to Sea Island. There was a wait, that was to be expected since it was Sunday and it is a popular place. It looked like we were not going to be able to get a place to sit down for sometime. I asked the person managing seating if they could make an accommodation for our family member just to get a table to sit down. She said that everyone was seated in the order of their number issued when you order. I surveyed the crowd that was waiting and no one appeared old or infirm. I then asked for the manager. He grudgingly found us a table but told us that we should not expect our food any sooner. Small accommodation was difficult to achieve. Although I have patronized this place since it opened I will not be back. Their policy is inflexible and shows no compassion.

My wife and I have been eating here at least once a month for the past seven years. And normally, if I were writing a review, I would give Sea Island on Rector a 5 rating. The only reason, I am giving it a 4 this time is due to our disappointment with their crab plate. This afternoon was the first time, I've have eaten crab in over 35 years and it was the first time ever for my wife. Sea Island offers a half pound of crab legs for $8.99 with no side dishes. The crab legs are snow crab legs which means they are very thin and do not hold a great deal of meat. Their plate consist of 4 legs and one claw. The taste of the meat was great - no problem there. However, the shell was soft and the pliers were almost worthless in that when we attempted to crack the shell it would not crack. As a result getting the meat was somewhat messy and frustrating. From what I recall, you should be able to crack the shell, break it and easily extract the meat. Considering the limited amount of meat we were able to harvest, I'm really glad we also ordered our normal meals as well. We will continue to visit Sea Island on a regular basis but we will not be ordering their crab plate again.

To begin with, I'm one of those individuals who loves fresh sea food, just not very often. Unlike my wife who could probably eat it everyday, my preference would be to have it maybe five or six times a year. My wife grew up on the Texas coast and raised by a family that included several fishermen, while I, on the other hand, always thought that "fresh" sea food meant Mrs. Paul's or Gorton "fresh" out of the freezer. When I started going to sea food restaurants I was surprised at the difference. On several visits to San Antonio to see my wife's aunt and uncle, they took us to one of the seven Sea Island Shrimp House res- taurants. We loved it. Even thought the location off the 1604 Loop that we visited the first few times had a long wait to order and then a long wait to get a table, we felt it was well worth the wait. The fish, oysters, shrimp, hush puppies, and cold slaw were all terrific. On our more recent visit to the Alamo city we visited a different, and somewhat smaller location on Rector St. that was closer to the motel where we were staying. The Rector St. location was the first of their restaurants opened in 1965. This time there was no waiting, since we arrived closer to closing, but still got the same delicious sea food and the same extremely friendly service. For sea food, Sea Island's menu prices are reasonable. The fried fish filets that I received was $9.99 and my wife's order wasn't much more and included a sea food combination which included shrimp. The only disappointment at Sea Island was their French fries which were below average, to say the least, and tasted leftover or from a cheap bag of frozen fries. If not for their fries, I would have definitely given this old and established sea food place a five-star rating. Overall though, if you like fresh sea food, the Sea Island Shrimp House does not disappoint.

Visited mid- August after seeing several locations around in SA . I was pleasantly surprised that it was so Good! I'd been missing out on some really good seafood with reasonably prices. The restaurants offer counter service, pass out pagers to notify you whe order is ready. I ordered the Seafood Gumbo - thick with vegetables, shrimp and seafood. Really good! I also ordered the Southern Fried Catfish - better than some, wished it was extra crispy. Good fries and hush-puppies. I'll be back for more gumbo, oysters and Shrimp cocktails.

We ate there today. The meals we had were the grilled shrimp and grilled salmon. It was delicious. The girl at the register was not especially friendly, but still nice enough. We asked to have hush puppies instead of the baguette bread and the bread cane out instead. When I went to let them know, the gentleman was very courteous and promptly got the hush puppies. We eat at Sea Island most time we get to SA as it serves good food.

Been going to these local restaurants for years, great fried seafood although grilled shrimp good also. Take out of town guests here when we're in the mood for seafood but don't want Papadeaux prices. These places are always busy so don't "fix" anything except I would like real butter with the baked potato please, I hate margarine. That's my only complaint!

Came here tonight with friends. I had the Stuffed Shrimp and were they good!! Very yummy! I'll definitely be back for more!!

Excellent!!! Bandera & 1604 location is awesome! Olin the manager is very attentive & is always looking out for the customers. Today we came in for oysters 😊 great selection, value & atmosphere

My husband and I really enjoyed our dining experience. The young man named Eric went above and beyond to recommend great dishes. The hostess was a sweetheart and the manager also named Eric made sure we were enjoying our meal. We really appreciate great management and staff. Love the vibe!!! Thanks all

This place had amazing oysters at a great price. Everything else was disappointing. The Mexican shrimp cocktail had little shrimp in it and most of it was on top. The hush puppies were too big, a bit doughy and lacked much flavor. The fish tacos were ok, but I've never had them with cheese and basic cabbage no real slaw. There are way to many great seafood places in the area to pick from. I'd pick someplace else.

Always dependable...Sea Island is faithful to provide the same good food and service at all the SA locations. We love the #14....fish fillets with large shrimp. We also like the numerous choice of sides instead of the traditional cole slaw and french fries.

Sea Island is OK. I think the food is overpriced. It's tasty, but you really don't get that much for the money. Then to top it off, they charge you extra if you want bread. Can you believe that? I have NEVER been charged extra for bread. Especially at a sea food restaurant where lots of people like to eat bread with their fish. Oh well, there are better choices if you want GOOD seafood.

this is a simple place - but the food is delicious! it was our first time there so it was a little confusing at first. however, the hostess explained how it all worked. you walk up to the counter and order your food. they give you a buzzer with a number and then you choose a table. they call your number and you go up and pick up your tray with your food. the food is wonderful!! the shrimp are HUGE!! i had the spinach and baked potato for my side items with my seafood platter. the spinach was sssoooo good!! my husband had the fish tacos and loved them, too. the prices are decent. the service there is friendly and helpful. will definitely visit there again.

Have been here for dinner and lunch. For dinner we ordered the oysters on the half shell and the ceviche. Very fresh. The colossal shrimp and oysters were wonderful. For lunch we had the lunch special of fried shrimp and fish. I wasn't as pleased with the fish. It was a bit dry for my liking. I am planning to return.

Just not good food. Way overpriced and mediocre at best. You might get the same quality at Long John Silvers. The front service clerk (male) was really nice and patient. The lady you get food from not nice at all. The shrimp ceviche had no taste. If you are forced to go, have the fries and seafood caldo.

Really wanted to have a fresh sea food lunch with quality and something more unique to San Antonio rather than a large chain. Sea food island seafood is always fresh. The restaurant has been in business since 1965 and the seafood is prepared from scratch daily. The first sign that it was going to be good was the large crowd, but the wait time was reasonable. You order your food at a counter, check in with the hostess, wait for a table and once a table is available, you are seated and wait for your food to be called. You return to the cook counter to pick up your food. We the luncheon fried shrimp and oysters, hush puppies and key lime pie. The luncheon serving is the smaller shrimp but they very flavorful and the food was hot. Really enjoyed the creamy key lime pie. We were only in town for a day or we would have gone back for a second time. The food cost was very reasonable and cheaper than most chain seafood resaurants. Very good!

This was our second time to visit Sea Island Shrimp House and it was just as good as the first! We enjoyed a side salad and Gumbo, shrimp linguini, and a children's chicken tender basket with fries. Needless to say, there was not a bite left on our table! Definitely recommend this place!

Absolutely delicious. Lots of options with good portion sizes. Staff was awesome helping me manage the large menu and the ordering process (you order at the counter and you get a buzzer when your food is ready). I ordered the side Greek Salad and the Shrimp and Fish Diablo. On the side I got spinach and hot green beans. The fish and shrimp were cooked and seasoned very nicely; fish was tender and not too spicy. The peppers and tomatoes added a nice layer of flavor. Be warned, the hot green beans are a bit spicy, but absolutely delicious with just the right amount of bacon. I travel a lot by myself and I would absolutely eat here again.

This place is AMAZING!!! I purchased the seafood platter and could not have been happier. The fish was tasty and crisp. The shrimp were large and plentiful. I have no complaints and will be eating here again ASAP.

Yes, this is not the most elegant restaurant in San Antonio. Yes, there are no waiters to take your food to the table. Yes you wait in a line (that can be a looong line sometimes) to order your food. And you know what? Who cares! The food is great! Oysters are as fresh as fresh could be and the sizzling lemon pepper shrimp are to be found nowhere else. A great restaurant at many locations in San Antonio. Dont miss it!

My wife and I both had the grilled scallops. Excellent as always. We ate at about 3:00 p.m. so the traffic in the parking lot was light.

my family and I enjoy going to sea Island at least once a month, the food is outstanding and the the service is outstanding as well ! haven't had a bad experience EVER...location is @ 410 and Ingram...

Food is great. Ate there tonight, and I enjoyed it. The staff are super nice. Family owned restaurant in SA. Look for the giant fisherman in the front.

Food is great! Price is right, Atmosphere is deceiving... Its a very laid back atmosphere, super casual ;-) The food taste great!!

Some of the best shrimp I have had. The staff is friendly helpful and make the visit memorable. The app on our phone sent us to a residential area so keep the phone handy and give them a call.It will be worth the extra trouble! Enjoy!!

This is an old school San Antonio tradition around since 1965, and they pretty much serve it the same way they did back then--you aren't going to find much that isn't breaded and deep fried--my daughters salmon steak wasn't, but the other fish and shrimp dishes we tried were. Plus: Generous portions--the calamari appetizer was adequate for our table of 4 by itself. Unlimited soft drink and tea refills. The food was well done for what it was. No need to tip anyone. The Cole slaw was obviously just made in house. Sign up for their mailing list and get free coupons via e-mail. http://www.shrimphouse.com/ Minus: Entirely self serve. McDonalds model: Get in line, order at the counter, go up to the kitchen, bring your trays back to the table, get your own drinks. $12.95 entrée is standard, which is San Antonio for the same price as a sit down full service place. Dated menu. If you want fried fish and hush puppies, these are good examples. Been at places like it all over the South.

This is a very popular seafood restaurant and rightly so. Most meals come with fries and slaw. But you may substitute for no extra charge. Try the sautéed spinach instead of the fries, it is great! Loved the slightly sweet slaw too. The coconut shrimp with special dipping sauce was also a hit along with big yummy hushpuppies. (The regular shrimp plates are not big jumbo shrimp but you can upgrade.) The shrimp salad is very good too, but I got the small portion and felt that the portion was not filling enough. I would prefer more side vegetables instead of one celery stick, three tiny carrots, and a half of a deviled egg. The shrimp salad does come in either a half of avocado or a tomato. The restaurant is constantly crowded and all the seafood is fresh and yummy. You have to order at the counter and pick up your order when called. Worth the wait!

Being going to sea island since the 60's always great quality at a reasnoble price, better than any national chain, not fancy just good.

Love this place. Super good had grilled shrimp. Clam chowder and hush puppies great. Hush puppies not greasey at all.

I've loved Sea Island for 25 years!! And I've never had anything except the Charbroiled Shrimp! Yum-o!! And this is the original restaurant! Busy, busy, busy! I also love the hot green beans! My hubby enjoys the lemon pepper grilled shrimp. So good and such friendly service!!

WOW!! You better arrive hungry. The Lemon fish and shrimp were excellent and only $13.00. The service was excellent and the staff friendly. The catfish was also very good with black beans and rice. The ceviche was a great start.

Great Seafood selection at a budget. Relaxed atmosphere. Wait time is fair. This is not a fast food restaurant. Great taste and selections.

My wife and I first started enjoying seafood at this location when we were first dating many years ago. My experiences at this location have continued to be great all these years. Not fancy and not over priced. This is a place to enjoy lots of great seafood food. Try the shrimp salad, which is my wife's favorite. I love a sampler plate with shrimp, fish, and oysters. I can't decide which I like best so I generally have them all. Their seafood selection is a treat. The national chain seafood restaurants have food that is frozen and tastes of freezer burn. This does not happen at Sea Island. The food is always fresh and does not taste like it has been in a freezer for some length of time. The food at Sea Island is not over priced like other seafood restaurants. Besides the great food there is the wait staff. Even though you order from a counter there are wait staff personnel there to refill a glass, and check on you throughout your meal. They find you a place to sit when the restaurant is full, and see the tables are promptly cleaned so you don't have to sit and look at a room of dirty dishes on table after table like many other restaurants. This wait staff deserves recognition for their outstanding service. Save yourself a trip to Galveston for fresh seafood as it is right here in San Antonio at Sea Island.

I worked at this Sea Island in the the eighties and went there consistently until around 2005 when we moved. Over the past twenty years whenever in San Antonio it was place we had to visit. During our last visit in April 2024 we were extremely disappointed. The menu and restaurant have been redone and I must say that the quality of food is now subpar. The shrimp were tiny, the fish lacked flavor, and the stuffed shrimp had very little shrimp it was mostly stuffing. They also did not have fried oysters anymore. The food is now overpriced and quality is like from a Cisco truck. They used to get their food from the gulf daily. Sea Island on Rector used to always be busy but when we went to eat there it had maybe 4 tables and this was at dinner time. I dont see Sea Island lasting very much longer as evidenced by the empty dining room and the overpriced subpar food. They should throw out the new menu and return to the menu that worked for over the 40 years that I was a customer. Sad to see such a legend in San Antonio fail but on the current path I believe that is Sea Island’s destiny.

We came here after my cousin's army retirement ceremony at his suggestion. We were unsure at first but then amazed at first taste! The fish lunch special was great. I got an extra piece of fish thinking I would need it because I was sharing with my 2 yr old but he would not eat. Along with sides I could only eat one piece of the fish and it was good food!

Love the fresh shrimp plus the gumbo. If I am in a rush, I never go at lunch. This can be a very busy place. You have to try the shrimp

We entered the restaurant expecting to be seated by a hostess. Since nobody came to our aid I walked to a waiter and asked to be seated. He said there was no service you stood in line, ordered food and chose any seat. As soon an food was ready we would be ringed with a ringing device that they gave us. I ordered 12 fresh oyster and sean and fish and shrimp main course. My wife ordered a salad and a shrimp dish and my teenager ordered a Hamburger. The oysters where quite good. Fish and shrimp where acceptable at most and my sons hamburger was overcooked. The wine selection is very poor In the end I paid $70 dollars with 2 glases of white wine. R¡The food was as mentioned, acceptable but felt the price did not justify what we were served

We have been going to this seafood restaurant for many years. Even though we no longer live in SA, we try and get to Sea Island every time we go back. The food is always fresh and the taste is fantastic. The restaurant itself is old, but it is clean and the service and food are excellend.

We had a fried oyster meal that came with many oysters. Everybody at the table loved their food, the service was good and we didn't have to wait too long.

Inexpensive local spot for business people. I was here right at the peak lunch hour, nothing fancy, but very tasty food, and the service was pretty good. Large portions.

Had a fried shrimp platter. The shrimp were, as advertised, big but were overcooked and covered with just way too much semi-soggy batter. That having been said, you know what you are getting when going here. It's really just sit-down fast food.

I am not sure where some of the reviewers have developed their palates and would really like to know just what restaurants they find where they can get a better plate of fried seafood for the price, but this San Antonio boy will continue to frequent this and all the other excellent Sea Island locations for as long as they are in business. For local fried seafood, I would have a diffcult time offering a better all around alternative. The shrimp used here are caught on the Texas gulf coast and have that faint iodine flavor indicative of our wonderful gulf coast shrimp. That may be a flavor that some might find objectionable, but it is a flavor I love and look for so I know I am not getting some bland, questionable quality, imported, vietnamese, farm raised crustaceans. The light "breading" that they use is nonpariel and I have found the preparation to be about as low in oil at service as something that is called "fried" can get without it being baked instead. I honestly don't understand the picks and pokes at any of the food prepared here. It's tops in my book for what they serve from the fried or bbq shrimp and fried fish to the tasty hush puppies, sweet creamy cole slaw and golden french fries. And it will remain that way for me for another 48 years should I be so lucky.

Living in San Antonio for over 30 years, Sea Island is still my favorite sea food resturant. I highly recommend the Forty Year Favorite because you get a sample of their best: gumbo, fried shrimp, grilled shrimp, fried fish, hush puppies and two sides. The southern fried catfish is also excellent. I also love the shrimp cocktail. Don't worry if there is a line as it moves fast. This is the original site and I think the food here is better than at some of the other newer locations. We eat here at least once a week.

I forgot how good this place is. We stopped by after arriving for a family visit and not much has changed, which is a good thing. Just very good prepared and seasoned seafood. I had the seafood platter, which is a nice sampling. Too much food, but worth it. The stuffed shrimp are wonderful!

My wife and I felt like seafood for lunch yesterday while we were out running errands. We came across this restaurant and stopped. The lunch crowd was diverse and trying everything on the menu it seemed. We went for old standbys. She had fried fish with sides of spinach and slaw. I had fried oysters and shrimp with sides of corn and slaw. The meals were served quickly and steaming hot. We enjoyed them so much that we finished what we were served and skipped dinner that evening. If you want tablecloths, servers, and ambiance this is not your place. If you want to have a good lunch at a great price go for it.

We love Sea Island. Their seafood is delicious. We don't go anywhere else when we want fish or shrimp. They serve nice size portions and it has always been cooked just right. Would recommend SEA ISLAND to everyone.

Today, 7-19-16, on our way home from South Padre Island, we stopped at Sea Island on Rector St. for lunch. It was about 2 pm and they still had a good crowd. We had Lunch B which has a large fish fillet and 6 shrimps plus 2 sides, what a meal! My wife and I enjoyed it as always and have always said that you can't go wrong by choosing Sea Island.

We made it to the restaurant at about 9:43pm and they closed at 10pm! The cashiers and cooks served us with a smile. We had a large group so I know they were probably annoyed but didn't show it. The fried oysters were a little undercooked but were switched out for something else. Overall, everyone enjoyed their meal.

I eat here regularly and the food is very consistent. I love the Lemon Pepper Fish, though I think it may be fried, rather than grilled as it advertises. I like the steamed spinach because it is not covered in cream or other unnecessary fattening things. The green beans and rice are also good.

While visiting family in San Antonio we decided to get an early dinner at Sea Island Shrimp House on Rector street. This was busy at 4pm and continued so all while we were there. You order at a counter just as you enter and the menu is very large. A family member had shown us a copy of the menu before we got there and that was really helpful and saved time standing in line. All the staff were welcoming and helpful. You also order your drinks at the counter and the price of a draft pint was $3.22. We ordered a good cross section of the choices, including the seafood platter; the fried oysters and shrimp combo; the charbroil shrimp platter and the original shrimp and fish. Along with the calamari we also had Mexican Shrimp Cocktails; a dozen fresh oysters on the half shell and cups of shrimp gumbo. The place is large inside and there are lots of tables. Wait-staff, including Zulema who served us, are really fast, fun to talk to and attentive. The plates we ordered were all fried and came with hushpuppies, french fries, etc. All the food was great and delicious. The fish was tender, as were the shrimp and oysters. Great batter. Oysters on the half shell were well presented on a large platter with lots of ice. I was surprised that the oysters were not cut free from the muscle, but wow, where they good with a little cocktail sauce! Mexican Shrimp were good also, but not spectacular. Gumbo was the real thing with lots of shrimp mixed in. We all had a good time and liked the food.

Family of 3 was looking for some good seafood, and we found it at this place, after making a wrong turn in the car. Sue glad we did! The hostess was young, funny, and good with people! The food was really good, with moderate pricing as far as seafood goes. The cooks seemed like they were having fun doing heir jobs in he back, and the manager was really nice, asking how things were going. Please check this place out of you get a chance,I highly recommend it!

I recently visited Sea Island Shrimp for dinner and was not dissapointed. I has relatively low expectations for shrimp in Texas, but I was definitely wrong. I had the Shrimp Feast plate with 20 shrimp, green beans, coleslaw, and hush puppies. There was a variety of shrimp from coconut, Charbroiled, grilled, and fried on the plate and each was delicious. The green beans were some of the best I've had. The place has a family friendly atmosphere and has good prices for the quantity and quality of food. Sea Island Shrimp gets an A in my book.

Little has changed over the years. Not fancy, but good food at good prices. Can't go wrong with the shrimp. Hushpuppies are nice also. Not for first dates, but for long time friends.

Went here on a recommendation from friends. It was a step above Long John Silvers and thats it. I was expecting some wonderful seafood experience. What I got was fried shrimp that were greasy and had sat on the counter so long they were cold. I tried them again a month or so later just to give them a fair shake and the experience was better but nothing special. Others I was with liked it and they are always busy but for me they are just ok.

The fried shrimp in this restaurant cannot be beat, especially for the price. They taste like they were just brought in off the dock before they were cooked. The atmosphere is one of any seafood house on the coastline. Definitely worth the price! DON'T MISS.

Not so great for those on a diet, but delicious food. I tried a shrimp platter that came with grilled shrimp (had to have something healthy!), fried shrimp and coconut shrimp. They included a yummy sauce for the coconut shrimp. The tarter sauce was okay, I like it with sweet relish, it was dill. The fries and coleslaw were okay. The lemonade was fresh and delicious, better than soda and worth the extra cost The meal was definitely not for those watching their weight, but really good!

My wife enjoys the rainbow trout, == Broiled ===, hard to beat and great taste. Their cold green bean salad is great. Good staff and management walks around to make sure everything is ok. I order fried fish ( a tradition ), Good decent prices. Not a rip-off.

This is not a regular restaurant. You place your order, pay for it and go find a table to sit at. They buzz you when your food is ready and you go pick it up at the counter. They do have people that walk around to see if you need any drink refills or extra napkins and there is also someone to pick up your dirty dishes. The food is so-so. The shrimp cocktail was not the greatest. The shrimp were limp and on the small size. The grilled shrimp came in a foil wrap and were a little on the burnt side. I would classify this place more as a fast food restaurant.

This is a order at the counter and sit down place with fountain drinks. I had the blacked catfish with A baked potato and the hot beans. All of it was very good. They also provided cheese for the backed potato. It did not take long to get the food but it was well prepared. My friend had the clam chowder, he is picky but he liked it. I recommend this place for the rather value at the price. It is not a fancy place but it is very clean and busy.

My family and I always come and eat at Sea Island when we visit the San Antonio area. Our most recent visit was yesterday. We had never been to this location before (the original location of all the Sea Islands) and enjoyed the food like always but can definitely notice the older building and decor. If that bothers you, than you may want to pass on this location. On the food, it was tasty like always. The shrimp and fish filets are always excellent! Friendly and helpful staff all the way around. P.S. parking here is tighter than in the New Braunfels or Live Oak locations. So if that is a must then keep that in mind.

I first ate here in the 1980's and have dined here every time I am in San Antonio. I was thrilled to find that it is still the same, great place. Their fried fish and other items are never greasy. It's a great value. On my two day trip, I had to eat there twice! I love the grilled shrimp. I love the fried fish. I love this place. It can get crowded, but it's worth the wait.

they are the best because my grandmal and my uncle and my friemds work there to and i love there food

Stopped for take out. Friendly service, good food, just took almost an hour after being told 20 minutes. Apparently they couldn't find my order. The good that came about is that the food was definitely hot off the stoves, and the baked potatoes really were good this time. Have had some before that appeared to old potatoes.

Though not fancy, the food is pretty good for the price. We like the shrimp platters with shrimp prepared three ways. The coconut shrimp is delicious. They have good hush puppies and great Cole slaw as well. Two people can usually get a good meal and drinks for under $40. I'd say that's pretty good for seafood.

Shrimp Salad is the best I have ever had. They use large shrimp, not the little bay shrimp. They are one of the most popular restaurants in San Antonio. No tipping there, you order at the counter and they call your number when it is ready. Don't be fooled by the self service; the food is fabulous.

This was my first visit. You order at the counter, wait awhile, and are then escorted to your table. Once there you then go back to another part of the counter to pick up your food. I missed that last detail and waited to have the food delivered. Won't make that mistake again. I'm also not sure if there is a way to pick up an appetizer or salad first and come back for the entrée later or not. Notwithstanding the quirky system, the food was excellent! Just as good as the much pricier (but also excellent) Pappadeaux down the street

My other food Mecca in San Antonio (the other being Chris Madrid's). This is a local phenomenon, you won't find many San Antonio natives that don't swear by this place. Everything is good. I make a complete pig of myself, usually, devouring 2 or even 3 entire entrées. This is nothing fancy, but it's everything I need.

Love Sea Island! I go for lunch at least once a week and it is always nice to see the same smiling faces, and sometimes I even run into Mrs. Anthony. The B Lunch Special is my fav! You get a nice, breaded fillet of pure white fish, plump, breaded shrimp, French fries, hush puppies, and cole slaw, for $8.69! Missy always has a smile on her face when taking my order, and Bernado does a great job keeping my tea filled, and keeping the place clean. Keep up the great job y'all!

Close to my hotel I thought I'd get me some Texas Gulf Shrimp. I went for their popular item Grilled Shrimp (3 skewers of shrimp that is seasoned wtih lemon peper and grilled). It was partially breaded, which was weird. It was slightly charred, which I didn't like. It ame with fries and coleslaw. Those were average as well. For $10.99 it was priced right, but it just didn't live up to my expectations.

We eat there at least two times a month, and have for 20 years. I cannot remember ever having a bad meal. Always good no matter what you get.

as of this date the menu has shrunk considerably online. no more shrimp salad, no scallops, no diablo grilled shrimp. what the hell is going on? i'm a senior and order the senior shrimp on occasion. they did away with that and now appears not available at all according to the online menu direct from their website. you people need to explain. the questions asked below do not apply. we wanted to call in an order so haven't been in a month.
Fried Fish at it's Finest
My family had several items, fried fish, shrimp platter, crab cakes, steak shiskabobs. It was all very tasty and the beer was really cold....Been in business since 1965 so they knida know what they are doing. Also saw a lot of people eating the baked fish. You gotta try this place when you are in San Antonio!!
