I can not say enough about this place. Segari's is not to far from our house so we are lucky enough to go there at least once a month. It is a very small restaurant, maybe only a dozen tables or so. My wife and I tend to go out to eat Mon-Thur so Segari's is never too crowded but I have seen it pack on a weekend. If we go out when we have family in town, this is the place to impress them with great food. The Lump Crab Appetizer is a crab lovers dream. Fresh huge lumps of crab done up like a shrimp cocktail.... delicious! My wife always orders the Crab & Shrimp Salad, as per her it is by far the best in Houston and she orders that dish almost everywhere she goes. They are always very generous on the seafood. I usually get the Rack of Lamb unless they temp me with the daily special. The rack is a large portion that is cooked perfectly. If you like lamb, you need to try these, you will not regret it!!

Segari's is a gem and so few people know about it. Perhaps it is because Sam Segari never advertised, did not have a sign, and had no menus. I once saw a matronly woman stop Sam while he was waiting tables and ask him for a menu. Sam replied, "Ma'am, stand up walk out my front door, go down about two blocks and cross the street..." The woman looked puzzled. Sam added, "that would be the Cadillar Bar, ma'am, they have menus, I have no need for them, I know what I serve." Sam passed away a couple of years ago, but his daughter, Angie, continues to run one of the best restaurants in Texas and Sam would surely be proud of her. She did put up a small sign and she did write a menu, but in honor of Sam, desserts come first. Segari's is small and special. Angie owns the place, tends bar, and waits tables. The kitchen is staffed by just a couple of folks who have been with Sam for years. From this tiny operation comes some spectacular food. They make the best gumbo I have ever had. They do not serve rice with it. Sam believed that good gumbo did not need rice. Instead, they serve garlic bread for dipping and it is the kind of place where you are wlecome to do so. The steaks and chops are superb. The cheeseburger is the best in Houston. But, the real speciality here is gulf coast seafood. Order the platter. It comes out on a silver tray and includes fried shrimp the size of your hand, jalapeno stuffed fried shrimp, boiled shrimp, fried oysters, crab claws, crab meat, and onion rings. Go hungry! For dessert, they have a woman who bakes homemade pies for them. The coconut cream pie is to die for. If you go to Houston and you do not go to Segari's, you are missing one great restaurant. If you live in Houston and you have not been to Segari's, shame on you! We moved to New York a couple of years ago and every time I am back in Houston, my first stop after landing at the airport is Segari's. I tell Angie that of all her loyal customers, I come the longest way to enjoy her food. It is well worth the journey.

We love Segari's because it is small and you can have dinner conversation without the distraction of noise! The food- Well, Angela serves the finest seafood in Houston! Giant Shrimp, and fresh Crab can always be counted on! The service is wonderful, they pretty much know our favorites and deliver the meal promptly! We suggest this little "treasure' frequently to friends! Richard and Betty Griffin

Enjoyed the gumbo and jumbo shrimp with crabmeat wrapped in bacon. Very tasty. All of the dishes at our table looked very good and there were lots of compliments around the table. Service was more than friendly and very prompt. Segari's is definitely worth a try.

One of the best seafood restaurants in Houston. Great atmosphere in such a small place, so be sure to make reservations.

Fabulous food in a neighborhood setting. Seafood, gumbo, lamb chops can not be beat by anyone in the city. Reasonable wine list and full bar. Possibly the best meringue pies in town.

Sometimes you see a restaurant, think, naah, and drive on. However, when a friend told me they serve lamb chops, I had to visit. This is an unpretentious restaurant, the external décor is rather dull, the parking is not great either. Internally, it is quaint and could do with a makeover, yet it has its charm. Here and there on the walls you will find historical memorabilia which is always of interest to me. The menu fairly small, yet plentiful, no point putting so much in it that they resort to freezing some items. This day, my friend and I went for the rack of lamb chops, must be the fact that we are English and it's not often you find them on the menu. When they arrived, with mint sauce, and the vegetables, I ate the chops first, and they were delicious, perfectly pink in the middle, such that I was sucking the bones to get the last bits of meat from the bones. We both had the fries and asparagus, and whilst I would say they were cooked well, they paled against the chops. For a starter, I went with the gumbo, the bowl was full, and there was plenty of fish and shrimp visible, and I must say the dish was very tasty, definitely have that again. My colleague went for the crab cakes, and he responded by eating them in record time, so I think he enjoyed them too. For desert, we both went for the bread pudding, and whilst it was good, I know my version is better, so I would say a 3 out of 5 would best mark it. This is not the cheapest of places, but it is most enjoyable all the same. You can order drinks, we didn't as it was lunchtime and we had to return to work. Still, we did have coffee and it supplemented the meal very well. I would thoroughly recommend this restaurant to anyone, a little pricy, but worth a visit. It is a cozy place, but if you are with a large crowd, that will be a bit problematic, as this is a small restaurant.

The restaurant is small but intimate and great food but a little on the high side. Great for a special date night.

We went for dinner during the week and were the only people in the place, which was nice but odd. We had the redfish with lump crabmeat, mixed vegetables, stuffed shrimp and gumbo. Redfish dish was good - no complaints. Stuffed shrimp were really good Gumbo - interesting roux different but good Mixed sautéed vegetables were really oily. For the most part dinner was good..3.5 stars because I felt it was a little pricey relative to overall our overall experience

Monday's tend to be a slower night that we like to try out new restaurants. Last night we decided to go to Segari's, after living in the area for years we had never went. The seafood platter was very good and it is great that you can switch out items to make sure you like everything! It had shrimp cocktail, fried shrimp, fried oysters, crab cake and crab cocktail. If you like fresh crab it is a must get. Wine selection is very good too. For dessert we couldn't decide between the chocolate cream or coconut cream cake so we got both and they were amazing. Especially when you eat them together!! We will definitely go back. Don't shy away because there are no prices on the menu it isn't a huge sticker shock and worth the money for the quality of food and service provided.

I recently went to Segari's at 1503 N. Shepherd in the Heights .I had dined at one of their earlier loacations years ago . The old home that houses the restaraunt is full of character and humor . The food and service are exceptional . Seafood is the order of the day here ,some beef and chicken dishes are offered as well . The redfish I had was cooked perfectly and deliciously fresh . This is a fish that is easy to overcook . Mine was moist and tasty . The dish known as Angela's Crabcakes was out of this world . They are the most scrumptious crab cakes I have ever tasted . A quite unique take on crabcakes . The mixed vegaetables , often thoughtlessly put on a plate , were fresh and yummy . My Caesar salad was perfect . A good affordable wine list is offered . Segari's is a great choice for old friends gathering , a romantic occasion ,or just when you're craving some great food in a pleasant location . Cheers to Angela and her crew . Segari's is a winner in my book !

If you’re seeking that special place to call your own whether you are single and dating (or not), out with friends/family for the evening or with the one you love…look no further. Dining at Segari’s offers intimate yet understated warmth and elegance for upscale casual dining. Angela Segari (Owner) and each of her staff make you feel as if you’ve always been a member of their more than three generations of Houston customers.

This is a very laid back restaurant with repeating customers. The service is excellent, food is even better. Very small restaurant, menu gas a limited number of item so they do them all very well. Gumbo - excellent, lamb pops - great, huge shrimp and crab meat, any meat dish is excellent. Desserts are to die for. You can't go wrong with anything here.

Took a friend there for her BD and as usual the food was fabulous and service very special. My friend was brought a complementary dessert of her choice. This is our go to place for a consistently wonderful time in every way.

The personal service and the outstanding seafood is right at the top in Houston. Quaint dining room is very quiet, so perfect if you want to have an intimate dinner, or entertain a client and the shrimp, crab and fish are excellent. Salads are generous and you will not find a bigger, better lump crab meat cocktail anywhere.

It pains me to give only 2 rating when this place is so close from home. But few times I visited this place, twice I had our orders mixed up. My friend ordered fillet mignon, but what came to the table was ribeye. Then on another visit, our wait stuff had to ask me twice what I was ordered. Hmmm, to have it written down will be helpful, and it was only two of us on the table. Gumbo and lamb chop were good, tasty. But the crab appetizer, that was claimed the best in town was underwhelming. But was really bothersome was the lack of attention from the server.

We only went to have lunch on a rainy day. Choice for the day was gumbo so I can't really attest for the rest of the menu. The first surprise was that the menu didn't include the prices on it. This scared us a bit almost as much as to see decent linens on the tables. I thought there were going to rape us in price but the gumbo wasn't too expensive. Not cheap, but not really expensive at around $7.00 per cup and $14.00 per bowl. Having said that, the gumbo was very good indeed and far superior to the average one found in restaurants across Houston. The roux was fantastic, flavorful and spicy (just how I like it, if you don't like spicy food this is not your soup). There were plenty of shrimps, crab meat and sausage and you can ask for the rice on the side. A little Tabasco or Louisiana Sauce and you're ready to roll! I'll be coming back for the gumbo and also to try other dishes. The rack of lamb looks incredibly good (although I'd bet it is pricey). As far as the gumbo goes, I am always looking for a great gumbo. Some of my favorite gumbos in town were in restaurants that for one reason or another do not exist anymore. But the perfect gumbo is always on my radar and Segari's gumbo does not disappoint. It is very good, perhaps not perfect but very, very good indeed.

Four of us (2 adults 2 children) popped along for a lovely meal on Steak night and were not disappointed. The food was really good and we were well looked after by Laura who buzzed around making sure everyone was looked after. Will definitely go back!

From the outside, this place will fool you. Open the door and you are immediately pleasantly surprised. Intimate and quaint with extremely accommodating service. The real highlight is the food. They have the best gumbo I've ever had, hands down. The fried shrimp is exquisite - something about the thin breaking and being served butterflied. We've also had the blackened chicken - perfect. This is one of our go to places!

Visited because we saw it on the way to someplace else. Glad we stopped. Visited on a Tuesday, place had one other couple seated. Had the Ceviche for appetizer, wide liked it, I thought it was OK. Ribeye was good, vegetables were excellent. Good selection of food, good atmosphere and excellent service.

My wife and I have lived in Houston for over 30 years, but we were not familiar with this restaurant until recently. Evidently, it's changed locations a lot. This is a high quality but small seafood restaurant with some of best gumbo, shrimp cocktails, crab cakes and fish dishes we've had in years. The prices are reasonable given the quality. The wine and beer lists are adequate. We'll be back.

As soon as I entered I fallen in love of this little pretty place. The atmosphere is very warm and friendly but professional at the same time. Tables very well laid with a very good touch. Angela makes you feeling at home and helps you in the food choice that is delicious. You really can touch how much love her father in the past and she now puts in their business. Definitely the best seafood of Texas and of the whole Usa. Fresh, well cooked and well served. I still get hungry anytime I think of that. Don't forget to taste the amazing Gumbo.

We went there based on reviews. The place is small but has the nice feel to it. Very nice and quick service. We have ordered gumbo for starters and the platter to share for the main course. I have to say that the gumbo was one of the best I ever had but the platter was disappointing- too dry for my taste. Oh yes, I have to say that the crab was also very good. They have reasonably priced wines as well. Overall ok but not as good as raving reviews I read. I may come back for a bowl of gumbo though.

I have eaten here a number of times but never taken the time to write a review. On Friday evening, I took my daughter and her boyfriend here for dinner. Our reservation was for 7:00 P.M. We arrived at 6:45 and were promptly seated. They each ordered gumbo and loved it. I had a green salad and added shrimp. I was delicious. I ordered the thick sliced bacon with blue cheese and honey. All three of us really enjoyed it. My daughter ordered the filet with rosemary potatoes. She loved it. Herr boyfriend ordered the ribeye with rosemary potatoes. He really enjoyed it. I also ordered the ribeye with onion rings and an order of bacon wrapped shrimp with fries for the table. My ribeye was perfect and the three of us enjoyed the bacon wrapped shrimp and fries. If you have never eaten her you have to try it. It is a small, cozy place with great food and excellent service. I promise you will return for more!

Brought here by a local. Small and cozy loaded with regular customers. Didn’t take long to see why, nice bowl of gumbo and encourage to get a side of cold crab. Really more than three could eat and excellent quality. I was assured every thing on menu was the same. Friend ordered crab cakes and he said it was best he ever had

If you want local seafood, this is the place. Small restaurant with cozy atmosphere, good music and good service. The gumbo is great, great salads and the seafood entres are great. This is one of my go to stops when I visit Houston. I've never been disappointed.

Sam Segari was a Houston icon in the restaurant/club scene. Sadly, he is no longer with us but his excellence lives on at his namesake restaurant on Shepard Dr. I had the lump crab in sauted butter, it could not have been any more fresh or delicious. Sam's signature onion rights are a religious experience. Sam would be proud of his daughter who carries on the family tradition on excellence.

Met a couple of friends for Monday lunch, and loved every minute of the dining experience. Pros: Authentic Louisiana-style seafood gumbo Soft-shell crab topped with lump crab meat (was the daily special) Cozy ambiance Quiet restaurant (which is unusual and valued in the Houston restaurant scene) Friendly, efficient service Ample free parking Centrally located with easy access to I-10 Cons: Menu doesn't list prices. While the prices are pretty much in line with other mid-range Houston restaurants, it can cause hesitation for newcomers.

We went on a Saturday night and made a reservation in advance since it's small. This is a very strange restaurant in that you walk in and boom, you're standing next to tables of people eating. Not a great set-up and kind of awkward. It was not full though it was a Saturday night and is small. I had the shrimp cocktail which is pretty hard to screw up but this was the worst shrimp cocktail I've ever had. The shrimp were jumbo which would have been a good thing but they were not cleaned, the shell was still on (not just on the tails) in some parts that I didn't realize until I began to it the shrimp and the shrimp was as bland and cold as possible. I get that it should be kept cold but there's cold and there's nearly frozen cold. It actually hurt my teeth (sensitivity) because it was so cold. The shrimp had zero flavor so I felt like I was eating cotton dipped in sauce. The sauce, however was good and not too spicy so for that I'm giving bonus points. I had the lumb crab meat for my entree which was a mistake. The waitress raved about it but why? It was just like the shrimp: cold, bland and tasteless. It was so horrible that I couldn't eat it and asked for the rest to go in hopes I could do something with it at home. The prices are not on the menu which is odd and really not right if someone wants to know in advance about how much they can expect to pay -- why on earth would a restaurant do this? The service was scatty. People who got in after us were served before us and vice versa. The man sitting next to us had the steak and apparently it was not cooked to his liking so he had to return it. The tables are very close so we could hear and see everything. This is not a good seafood restaurant in my opinion. I grew up eating fresh seafood from the Atlantic coast and have had fresh seafood in many cities and countries and I can tell you that Segari's does not serve great seafood. Not sure how anyone enjoys this. I love to support mom and pop places but their product has to be good in order to do so. And fYI, this is the gulf blue crab they serve though they don't state it on the menu. If you're not a fan of blue crab, go elsewhere. Our total was about $100 and I was left hungry and disappointed. Would not recommend nor return. I can get better shrimp cocktail and crab from the supermarket. Giving them two stars for the cocktail sauce and the vegetable medley which was nice and not too greasy and had a big variety of veggies.

They have the best gumbo that I have ever tried. The resturant is more on the cajun side. The crab cake are excellent. Everything was excellent.
A gem ... I can't wait to go back
Loved every aspect. Recommended by a Louisiana-native, 30-year resident of Houston, One hesitates to reveal a small gem, lest it go the way of the Julia Child's neighborhood favorite, Legal Seafood of Cambridge. My son's gumbo was the best I've tasted (and I've had many). Even if you don't like gumbo, do yourself a favor by trying this. The best roux I've experienced, with the right amount of seafood. My shrimp coctail was generous and delicious. Fresh, large shrimp with good sauce. My red fish topped with fresh lump crab was excellent. It arrive so hot I thought Wow, heated plates, but no, it just came out that way. Remarkable coconut meringue pie (the real deal) was a treat. Everything else was so good, I decided to test them with a dessert that is rarely good. It was. A+. When was the last time you dined in a big city where you never felt rushed? Ditto's for one where you could converse in normal voices, feeling you were being served instead of hustled. Truly fine dining, this is not, but Oh! are the food, servic, and ambience good. Dr. Scott says: Dine here with confidence.
