The highest compliment a restaurant can receive is from another chef. Seven Hills was recommended by a talented young chef in San Francisco, Chris D.. My wife and I ordered several entrees of pasta and a fish. We especially enjoyed the seasonal pasta preparation with peas and of course, the Maccheroncelli. Everything was perfectly prepared and seasoned. The servers were polite, knowledgeable and efficient. Wine prices were reasonable. Owner Alex Solomou came to the table to introduce himself and inquire as to our satisfaction. Seven Hills is a must to enjoy.

You know how you once and awhile stumble across a true gem of a restaurant? Well, this is one of those places. I went there for the first time tonight and sat at the bar where I was greeted by the owner, Alex. He was kind and welcoming. I asked him to pick me a glass of wine and he was spot on and gave a very generous pour. My appetizer, duck liver pate, was gorgeously presented and was heavenly. My main course, the tagliatlle was absolutely perfect. The chocolate budino was just the right way to end thd meal. I can not wait to go back!

Never disappoints. Food is outstanding. Better or as good as than any neighborhood NYC restaurant. Owners delightful.

It was truly delightful to dine at Seven Hills during our recent trip to San Francisco. Located in the Russian Hills neighborhood, the atmosphere inside this rustic Italian bistro was casual and pleasantly energizing. The friendly, knowledgeable service provided by Mikey and all the staff felt genuine, personalized, and mindful. While I have an allergy to gluten and choose not to order pasta, it’s important to note that Seven Hills makes their own organic, gluten-free pasta—a big plus for gluten-free pasta lovers! Aside from the gluten-free pasta, there are plenty of gluten-free dishes on the menu and the kitchen is happy to modify dishes when possible. Each course that we enjoyed—antipasti, insalata, pasta (my husband) and secondi-- was fresh, flavorful, beautifully plated, and delicious, all thanks to Chef Anthony Florian’s inspired use of locally sourced ingredients and a kitchen that knew how to hustle with style. Their wine list was a wonderful compliment to their menu, and while we did not do dessert this time around, we certainly would be open to it in the future. Overall, we’d recommend Seven Hills to anyone looking for fresh, locally inspired Italian cuisine in a casual, stimulating, customer-focused atmosphere.

Ah, the best laid plans : for months we were looking forward to a further return visit to wonderful San Francisco, but had to cut short our stay, to get home before the "Travel Ban" came into effect. All was not lost, however - even in the all too few days we were in SF, we managed to fit in 2 pre-scheduled visits to "Seven Hills", experiences which put broad smiles on our faces! Let's be clear : after 9 years offering excellent hospitality, "Seven Hills" has MOVED from its original, intimate premises, to a splendid new location nearby (uphill), at 1896 Hyde Street. [Sadly, many Cab Drivers & Uber Operators have not yet got the message, as we discovered - twice!] It took us a little time to adjust to the changed surroundings : comfortable, tastefully-decorated, and certainly more spacious. But the Menu - under the watchful eyes of the same Head Chef, Anthony Florian - demonstrated the familiar flair and taste we had previously appreciated. Over our two nights here, our "Mains" were probably more tasty than our "Starters", although the "Duck Liver Pate" & the "American Wagyu Carpaccio" were certainly adequate. My own "Pork Chop" (the first night), and a "Pork Sirloin" (night 2) were particularly impressive. M (my "Better Half") also greatly enjoyed the "Tagliatelle Bolgnese" & the "Market Fish" on different nights. We shared a Bottle of White Wine each night. The "Merry Edwards Sauvignon Blanc" ($65) was extremely disappointing : the "Carricante, Calabretta" ($64) was absolutely superb. Bread - which is one of my own favourite meal-treats - was, sadly, limited to one "choice", was quite average, and despite prompting by us + promises from him, the Server seemed reluctant to come back with more. "Service", overall was rather "mixed", with attentiveness fairly limited, and - in one instance - a lack of charm, particularly when M requested that she accompany this Server to the Credit Card Terminal (as experienced Travellers, we tend to be careful with Credit/Debit Cards, without wishing to reflect on the integrity or honesty of Staff). And, we must mention a multi-tasking young man, Spencer, who impressed us greatly with his courtesy and diligence, from the time we arrived at the Reception Desk. Of course, one of the highlights of coming to "Seven Hills", is encountering the Owner, Alexis Solomou. From the first time we met him, several years ago, we have been hugely impressed by his dedicated presence, his energy, his friendly (but not intrusive) attentiveness, his clear concern to ensure everyone enjoys their visit to "Seven Hills", and more. We were delighted to meet him again (after an interval of 18 months) : our sincere thanks to Alexisi for his many kindnesses to us, as just occasional visitors to his excellent Restaurant! And, for all of the small criticisms we have voiced here, it's fair to say that the "New Seven Hills", as it establishes itself in its new location, is, indeed, already worthy of being described as "Excellent". We wish Alexis, Executive Chef Anthony + the evolving Team they are assembling here, all the very best - now, in these troubled times, and in the, hopefully, more settled future!

If you are looking for incredible Italian food in the city, look no further. The service was exceptional and the food was incredible. Everyone at our table had a great evening and loved the experience.

The “honest” reviews regarding the pricing are dead on! We WERE advised when ordering a pasta dish that it would be considered a small plate but to charge $38 for some black squid pasta with a few smaller pieces of lobster is ridiculous. The dish WAS well prepared but at comparable restaurants in New York would have been considered an appetizer costing no more than $20. I strongly disagree with the owner’s response that this pricing is consistent with other **** dining in San Francisco. Regarding the comments specific to the “Artisan” bread, I am used to paying 3 euros for a “bread basket” in Italy, but a dollar for ONE piece..... seriously????? I think that’s an insult to ones intelligence and I was aware of the charge before ordering and it in NO WAY compares to the bread served at any restaurant in Italy. The service was attentive but I didn’t appreciate someone resembling a dishwasher using a towel to wipe down our table before we were presented a desert menu. At this point we decided to go elsewhere for desert.

Well-balanced, small menu with great food. Cosy and snug with lovely atmosphere. Excellent service. Slightly off the beaten track but well worth the effort. Very fresh ingredients. Well looked after by our server Dan and owner Alex (we like restaurants where the owner is visible). Highly recommended.

Wonderful food, wine and service! Delicious and unique house made pasta and cured meats. Not to be missed!

The food was very well prepared. The atmosphere is cozy and depending on where you sit can be a bit noisy. Our waiter was excellent. If you are looking for a fab gourmet experience, I suggest that you look elsewhere. If you are looking for a small intimate restaurant with solid food, the type you would hope to find in the Italian countryside, give this a try.

Highly recommend Seven Hills. Food was delicious, good atmosphere and service. Had the carpaccio and a salmon special of the day. Both were absolutely delicious. They also have a good wine list.

We spent the last evening of our honeymoon at Seven Hills, and it was perfect! The most delicious food, and amazing service. Thank you Alex, it was great to meet you and your team.

From the moment we walked in, to the moment we left, the experience was superb. Tony, our waiter, was attentive and helpful. The food - tuna sashimi, Frito misto to start; quail (sublime), pork chop (excellent meat) - excellent ingredients, well presented, very tasty. And Alexis was a joy to meet. Helped by the Cypriot connection with my wife. A lovely evening, thank you.

I don’t understand the hype about this place. We went for dinner with good friends and left disappointed (and still hungry). The place is rather full and loud. Staff were not very friendly and seemed rather snobbish, arrogant and untrained. They started to clean up the table while one of us was still eating and we had to ask for more drinks because they wouldn’t notice that we run out of water and wine, just to mention a few things. It took a very long time to get the food which I wouldn’t mind if it were outstanding, but what we got was in my opinion of average quality the most. Portions are generally very small and we had to eat something at home because we were still hungry. The pasta I had was quite tasty though, but again not enough for 26 dollars a plate If one has been to Italy with its fantastic restaurants and great, relaxed service for a reasonable price, this will be quite a disappointment. The wine list is quite long and good but like the food overpriced. So: If you don’t know how fabulous Italian food can actually be, are on a diet and have too much money, go here.

I'm not one to comment on olive oil ever because it all tastes the same to me... until now. Apparently, the chef is on the California board of olive oil (I'm sure there is a more official name) and he really knows his stuff. We ordered the salami board and it was drizzled in this olive oil which made it that much more delicious. The meat was extremely fresh and we were so impressed with the flavors of this oil we asked our server what it was called so we could buy it. Well, of course, it was a mix of two they don't sell in stores. But she was kind enough to give us a side of it to dip our bread into. For dinner, we both ordered a pasta dish. Both were delicious. The portion was perfect. Not huge, but the perfect amount you could finish and not feel bad about it. I wish I lived in SF because I would come back again and again but I certainly recommend visiting if you are in town!

This is my favorite restaurant in SF. I also love Collina the restaurant down the street by the same owners. Everything I order is a masterpiece of delicious food!!!! The meatballs, Halibut with pea risotto, the little gem salad (insanely yummy) with mandarin oranges & avocado is highly recommended. We sat up at the bar at this lively restaurant. The staff is friendly and professional.

In April of this year I called Seven Hills to make reservations for June 9. While speaking with Alex, told him of a wine we had there 3 years earlier. He advised that they did not have that particular offering on the wine list currently. Imagine my surprise when he brought a bottle of Falcone Cabernet Sauvignon, 2015 to the table—the very wine I had described. What service! The table ordered beef, chicken and pasta. Chef Tony was at a COOC meeting, but the quality of the offerings was not diminished. All was superb. The service was impeccable as well. This is a small restaurant and very popular. As a result, it’s a bit crowded and noisy. But such is the price one pays for the dining in a first class establishment .

Small traditional Italian restaurant, friendly service. My appetizer of prosciutto was perfect. The main of pork chops was plentiful and the best I ever had. An other main of cod less successful with too much sauce and beans and not much fish Clearly this is no a place for seafood. Good but expensive Italian wines

Friends from out of town made a reservation here. We had never been before, but it was a great find! Everything was amazingly fresh from the salmon from Monterey Bay to the leg of veal. The truffle tortellini was house made and outstanding. I don't think you can go wrong with anything on the menu. Also, the service was impeccable. A top-notch place to definitely visit.

My wife and I finally had dinner here the other night after living in the neighborhood for a couple of years. We just returned from Italy and were craving some fresh made pasta so we were excited for the dining experience. Our dishes, the Maccheroncelli and the Casoncelli, were delicious and tasted so fresh. We also indulged in the dessert specials for the night which were a tasty treat. The service was excellent as our waiter walked us through the menu and helped us pair our choice of wine too. We definitely look forward to visiting again. If we can’t be in Italy, then we will come here. This place is a great find!

We had an excellent experience at this restaurant. The manager, Abraham, is simply outstanding and needs to be specifically recognized. The meal was excellent. We shared the carpaccio which was fairly petite but outstanding. The flavors were unusual, not typical, and superb. There after, we shared the meatballs which were absolutely non-typical. They had a little bit of cheese inside and the accompanying tomato sauce was perfectly on point. Finally, we shared the functional equivalent of spinach ravioli. Another excellent dish. Our server was excellent. Parking at this restaurant is a serious problem. That said, it should not dissuade one from patronizing the establishment. I highly recommend this restaurant.

The food at Seven Hills is impeccable. The flavors are outstanding! Great wine list too! This restaurant does a great job sourcing products from small business owners - and the results are obvious in their food. The portion sizes are great! Can’t say enough about the staff-and it starts at the top as the owner took time with us to recommend a wine as well as dishes! The setting is intimate. Can’t wait to go back!

This places gets good reviews and I have no idea why. I’ve ate here several times and been unimpressed each time. It’s very average food for above average cost. If you are visiting SF skip this place.

An amazing dinner. Some of the best pasta I’ve ever had. Wonderful olive oil cake for dessert. If I could give it 4.9 stars I would, just because they sent the food out really quickly and seemed to be in a hurry to get us out of there. But it was no setback to our meal. Highly recommend, just wanted to add that the service was too quick for the staff who may read this.

What a great little nighnborhood feeling restaurant where it is all about the food. Pastas here are small pprtions and gourmet. Its not for the Italian traditionalist, but rather its for the gourmet palate and more adventurous foodie. Make no mistake, it is a casual restaurant, but it is also romantic. Highly recommended for dates.

I discovered Seven Hills when browsing Yelp and Trip Advisor for dinner options during our stay in San Fransisco. What a fabulous find it was! You should book your reservation in advance to ensure you can get a table. The location, the atmosphere, the service and the food were all superb. We were greeted by staff at the door who engaged our two young boys and offered to take a family photo. We had the best seat in a private booth area. The food was divine from start to finish. We enjoyed the House Made Focaccia, the Crab salad, the Tomato Braised Polpette (meatballs), the Triangoli with Honeynut squash, mascarpone cheese, pomegranate seeds and chive buro fuso and the Sea bass. For dessert our boys had the Chocolate Budino and Focaccia Bread Pudding. Seven Hills will be on our return to list when visiting San Fransisco in the future.

This was the busiest restaurant in the area and we now know why. I started with the American Wagyu Carpaccio that was very good and well seasoned. My husband had the Little gem salad that was very good but heavy on the cheese. I had the Squid Ink Pasta special with Dungeness crab, which was divine! I would highly recommend this dish if available again. My husband had the Wagyu flat iron steak that he enjoyed. The lovely fresh asparagus and fingerling potato garnish were delicious also. The Vanilla Panna Cotta and the Chocolate Budino were also delicious desserts. I would definitely return next time we are in San Francisco.

Nice Italian menu with good authentic pasta dishes and good wine list. We sat outside in the covered area and was very blowy so would definitely recommend sitting inside if you can

The food was very tasty but the meal was spoiled by being rushed through our courses. They took the plates away for my wife and kids and handed out sweet menus whilst I was still eating my main. They then tried to take my plate whilst I was still chewing! The waitress wasn’t very attentive or engaging; not what I expect for those prices.

We were pleasantly surprised by this quaint neighborhood Italian restaurant. We arrived on time and our table was ready and the staff was exceedingly helpful choosing our dishes and explaining the menu. We started our meal with a Sicilian wine that was excellent, followed by a mozzarella dish that was an interesting twist to a traditional Caprese salad but instead it use citrus flavors, olives and Mandarin’s to garnish the plate. This was followed by a lamb pasta and beef with chimichurri sauce both of which were excellently prepared. We ended our meal with a chocolate mousse that was also excellent. All the dishes were perfectly prepared with great attention to detail. This is definitely a restaurant worth coming back to. It’s unfortunate that although we wanted to have the lamb dish that was the day’s special, they ran out of the of the dish when we arrived but that simply tells you about their high standards and how they develop their menus based on what’s available for the day that is fresh. Bravo!

Excellent!!!! We loved the place, the food so good and the welcome very friendly! We had booked outside but sometimes cool evenings discouraged us and in a very pleasant way we were offered dinner at the bar which is very very nice! Go on!

Our hotel recommended we eat here (Scarlett Huntington) and we were not disappointed. Good food and a varied menu.

We visited this restaurant on our honeymoon as we saw the excellent reviews. We were not disappointed the staff were amazing and attentive. The food is absolutely incredible. The restaurant is small and the ambience is perfect. Thank you for the most fabulous evening.

We ate here last night, having tried and failed to book online. Place was rammed but a table was found for us instantly and the service was swift and spot on. Waiter friendly and well informed despite having to say the same thing to a packed restaurant over and over again. Bread fantastic, gnocchi very flavoursome and whatever it was husband ate (sorry can't remember but it was meat) was apparently fantastic. I also had the panna cotta for dessert and it was the best ever. Wine fine - I had the Salina Bianco and spouse the red zinfandel. Bill a little steep for what we had but we did feel the quality was great.

Sophisticated Italian committed to local sourcing of top quality ingredients cooked to perfection with simplicity and focus on flavor. The menu is limited and changes daily but there is always one constant, our waiter explained: the meatballs. Served as an appetizer, the two large meatballs were served with a bright, fresh tomato sauce and large chunk of freshly toasted garlic bread. They may be the best I’ve ever had. Not too heavy, cheesy, rich and well seasoned. We shared the meatballs and a deliciously simple salad for the first course. For his entree, my husband decided to indulge with their special truffle agnellotti stuffed with ricotta, bathed in a buttery truffle sauce and smothered with a generous shaving of fresh truffles table side. Absolute heaven in a bite. I had the ragu served over homemade spinach pasta. The raging had amazing depth of flavor and the pasta was superb. A delicious light and soothing panna cotta completed our dinner. The restaurant itself is small, contemporary and comfortable. Our waiter was terrific and steered us to a well priced wine that was new to us. A memorable evening!

We hear of Seven Hill from a local tv show call Check Please and then a friend recommended it, so with that info we set up a reservation. Parking is tight in the area but there is a store that let you pay $10 and you can park there and it's only a two block walk to the restaurant from there. Upon entering we were promptly greeted and seated and our waiter greeted us. We ordered the bean salad, meatballs, and zucchini blossoms to start us off, husband loved the meatballs and I enjoyed the zucchini blossoms and salad. For our main, I did the truffle tortellini which was tasty, husband ordered the squid ink pasta with lobster and it was amazing. Desert we had a chocolate mousse which was delicious and also a cheese with honey and fruits both were delicious in their own different ways. It was a great dining experience.

I was looking for someplace nice for dinner, and settled on this place. I tried to make a reservation for after it opened on Open Table, but the program required a credit card, and by the time I entered it, it was after 5:00 pm, and wouldn't take reservations for that day. Tip: Call the restaurant - we still were able to get an early one. This place is on Hyde Street, and was worth the effort to get to. You might miss it if you don't know it's there. We arrived and were promptly seated and greeted by our server, who was outstanding. He knew the specials inside and out, and presented them to use. We ordered a bottle of wine (nice 2015 Truchard Cabernet) and settled down. For an appetizer, we ordered their American Waygu Carpaccio, which was served with 5 paper thin slices of Waygu Beef, topped with roasted capers, and some garnish which tasted wonderful. I was using my fork to try to get every drop off the plate. For dinner, I had their Tortelloini, while my wife had their Agnololli. To say these pasta dishes were tasty would be an understatement - the pasta literally dissolved in a burst of flavors in your mouth with each bite. I was trying to eat slower - it was that good. When this was all done, we still were good for dessert. I had their Chocolate dish, which was topped with whipped cream and nuts, and was thicker than a mousse - and it was chocolate heaven. My wife had their Affogato, which was based on vanilla ice cream, topped with hot espresso, which was delicious. This has been the best meal we have had to date in San Francisco, or California for that matter on our trip. Really, Really good stuff.

This is a fantastic restaurant . . . the service here is normally spot on, although tonight the service started off a little rough . . . most likely due to it being New Year’s Day (rushed/overwhelmed) !!! We had brought a very nice/expensive 20-year-old bottle of wine and the waitress had attempted to open it right away with a corkscrew, before looking at the vintage first. After the cork broke off within the bottle, she then looked at the vintage and said “I should’ve used an Ah-So” (a pronged device used to prevent exactly what happened on a older cork/bottle of wine) . . . definitely not the end of the world, but awkward !!! Some of the best Duck Liver Pate (pictured below) you’ll ever have ($15) • we then shared the fantastic Beet Salad (pictured below) perfectly chilled with a horseradish cream sauce ($15) • we then shared two pastas that were both phenomenal . . . the Tagliatelle with a pork ragu . . . and the Neri with crab = a special ($26 & $30) relatively small portions, but handmade that day with fresh ingredients • we ended the evening with an Affogatto (photo below) = gelato in a glass with an espresso poured over it at the table ($9) - this dessert is magical (the coffee/espresso used here is memorable to say the least) !!! Notes: The corkage fee is $25 • a bottle of Italian sparkling water was $6 • they automatically add a San Francisco Mandate Fee to your bill of 4% which for us was $5.04 . . . our total bill for the above with tax was $142.18 (not including gratuity). Overall a very nice, but casual restaurant in a good area of San Francisco . . . fun ambiance with Cable Cars that can be seen and heard from your table, passing by from time to time . . . no valet parking . . . street parking can be challenging, so take uber or a taxi (if possible) . . . great acoustics within the restaurant, so you can actually have a conversation with your dining companion (wink). Go and Enjoy . . . you’ll love it.

Black cod special a terrible disappointment because badly overlooked. So unappetising that we had to have truffle pasta afterwards which was fantastic. But it did mean that a three course meal with a (mediocre) bottle of prosecco and two glasses of red wine came to more than 300 dollars. Where do these guys think they are with these prices? Service good, but this is a joke at these prices. They make London and Paris seem economical.

For those old enough to remember, I Fratelli was something of an institution in San Francisco in the late 80s, for authentic, semi-casual, out of this world Italian! The current incarnation takes it up a notch in terms of slightly more elegant but definitely as delicious as the original. The food goes up a notch on occasion too. For instance, a special this trip was a ravioli with black winter truffles. Absolutely sublime! Another special was fresh prawns with a squid ink black square spaghetti which was quite tasty. The only partial miss I thought was the shaved Brussels salad with pancetta. Very little of either, lots of other greens. Tasty but not as advertised. All in all a solid meal with a great wine list and wines by the glass!

My husband and I went to Seven Hills for Dinner during our 3 day stop over in San Francisco and it didn’t disappoint! Lovely family run restaurant and so nice to see the manager visit each table to check in with his customers and ensure they were happy. Food, Service and Ambience 10/10. Good location, accessible by tram and very close to our hotel.

My wife and I just celebrated our anniversary in part with a dinner by ourselves at this gem of a restaurant. It’s very small (17 tables I think), which translated for us to a low-keyed and relaxed vibe. I had asked for a nice table when reserving, mentioning it was an important anniversary, and we were rewarded with a very private table by a window. The food was superb from start to finish, and included the best pasta dish—a special with truffles—that either of us had ever enjoyed. Our fish and steak mains were also terrific. The service could not have been better—always close by, available and warmly friendly but never intrusive or hurrying. We’ll definitely be back!

This is our second visit to this cozy neighborhood restaurant on Russian Hill. The food is simply outstanding and the menu changes nightly. We started with a bottle of Falcone Cabernet and anti pasta with prosciutto, several other meats and buffalo mozzarella . Wow. Next came the meatballs and Maccheroncelli with ricotta. Addictive. This was followed by Brussels sprouts and pappadella with mushrooms and parmigiano. Pasta is this place’s forte. Finally our entrees of NY strip steaks and a petrale sole. The entrees were small And could be confused as appetizers. The steak was perfectly cooked. However, the petrale sole was overcooked , two very small pieces which seemed be an accompaniment to the vegetables on the plate. Nevertheless, a very satisfying evening. We’ll be back.

Being a tourist I have dined in North Beach on several occasions over the years. This time I wanted something the locals enjoy. I was pointed to Seven Hills. My wife and I enjoyed our neighborhood experience. The past is top shelf a reason to return in itself. Dan our server was professional, helpful and fun! The Tomato Braised Polpette Fontina stuffed meatballs, toasted polenta bread is amazing Spend the $1 per person on the bread- one does not waste the amazing sauce topping these meatballs. I chose Spaghetti Prosciutto, Albion strawberry, curry, garlic, cream. Avery interesting preparation- tastes and textures play off each other very well. My wife chose one of the specials the sqiud ink pasta with Kaui shrimp. While I liked my pasta- I absolutely loved hers.Several employees visited our table- one may have been owner Alex Solomou- but no one introduced themselves by name nor role. Serving sizes (including pasta) are small plate. Because of the density of the past and the richness of the sauces the size is easily adequate. I would happily return to Seven Hills for another lovely dining adventure. When in a city of 7,000 resteraunts that in itself is a high compliment

My wife and I planned a trip to SF months ago. Days before we arrived a friend told us about Seven Hills. Reservation regret set in and we canceled our reservation at another restaurant. I called and spoke to Nick. He let me know that they are full but would do his best to get us a seat. This is a small restaurant so reservations are a must. We arrived and got a cozy seat at two of the four bar seats. For a romantic evening, the bar seats were better than a table. Very intimate setting. We were delighted that Nick also was our server that evening. We are very service oriented people. His attention to detail and knowledge of the ingredients were amazing. They have a really amazing wine list. We got a small batch local Pinot. The food! Wow! Robust flavors in every bite. We were told that the ingredients were all local. Once you have a taste of a fresh crushed tomato in a warm pasta sauce like this, you can never go back. I highly recommend trying the classic pastas. We ordered parpadell and a simple crushed tomato pasta. So simple yet so amazing! I can’t recommend Seven Hills enough. Make sure this is on the top of your list when visiting SF.

The restaurant is located in downtown San Francisco. They have a few variation of foods; 2 or 3 different kinds of seafood, same with salads and meats and a good variation of wines. We were a family of four. The food as a whole was excellent, everybody at the table was completely satisfied. Good environment, excellent service and good price.

One of my top 3 meals EVER. Why you ask? Started with my greeting from Kat the hostess. All smiles and did whatever she could to make me feel welcome. Alex (our waiter) and Victor and Louis were amazing with the service provided. There when needed (as well as execution of water, clearing, brining the food with polite and caring attitudes. The food, wine, service were just wonderful. We ordered so much food - 3 Appetizers, 2 pastas and 3 main courses. ALL were fantastic. Kudos to Chef Tony, his team named above and the direction of Nick (manager) and Dennis (chef of our meal)

My wife and I dined at Seven Hills almost three weeks ago, and although I am somewhat late in writing a review, that does not take away from how OUTSTANDING our meal was! WOW! We started off the meal with a Grilled Panzanella Salad that had THE best heirloom tomatoes in it that either of us had ever tasted. I realize that it is odd to comment on something as pedestrian as tomatoes in a salad, but these truly were UNBELIEVABLE, and very much worth writing about! Do not fail to order this salad! We both ordered two of the four specials that they were offering that night, and my wife had the Squid Ink Noodle Pasta dish with Kauai Shrimp, while I had the Foie Gras and Bufala Ricotta stuffed Pasta dish (each shaped liked a miniature Tootsie Roll). They were both out of this world! The shrimp was as tender and succulent as we have ever had, and the Foie Gras/Bufala Ricotta filling provided a flavor explosion with each delectable bite! They make their pasta in-house, and you could easily taste the difference. Both dishes were SUBLIME! We closed the meal with their Straus Panna Cotta dessert, and both agreed that the panna cotta was as good as we've ever had, too! This was EASILY the best Italian Dinner we've ever had in our lives, and would HIGHLY recommend making sure that you don't leave San Francisco without making this one of your dining experiences. You will not be disappointed! We would be remiss if we didn't include how enjoyable the entire evening was made by our charming waiter, Lewis, and the owner, Alexis Solomou. Both were very personable, and very much added to the great vibe of the place. Thank you, gentlemen, for an evening that my wife and I will never forget. We WILL be back!

The food was OK, pretty good actually, but we felt we were constantly trying to get the waiter's attention, despite the place seeming quiet. Nice enough, but I think that their TA rank is too good based on our experience.

Everything was just superb. Service was great. The food fresh and extremely tasty. I order the pork chop which was the best ever. Highly recommend. Very small so need a reservation. Worth the effort and the time

Amazing food, very subtile, the chef is impressive! And the service is very nice too. The ranking is well deserved.

We had a wonderful dinner here on our last night in San Francisco - this trip. Ashton was a great waiter and quite helpful in choosing our dishes. Get an order of the house made focaccia; a perfect accompaniment for things to come. We shared the Star Route Little Gem Salad, and it was simply delicious; a wonderful combination of flavors and a perfect dressing. Then, we each had one of the pasta dishes and shared. My wife had the squid ink pasta with Hawaiian shrimp and I had pappardelle with fresh mushrooms. We had no room for dessert, but will definitely be back on a future trip.

What a direct hit this was. Delicious Italian and normal portions. Plus a choice of excellent wines. If you are in San Francisco, this restaurant is highly recommended.

We visited San Francisco for the first time and have been almost every place we’re good Italian food exists; from Rome to Berlin over New York to Sydney and I must say that this place is at one of the top spots! We hadn’t really found the feel of the San Francisco food scene the days that we had spent in this beautiful city and were just talking about it when my boyfriend suggested this place..and just wow! It’s a place with a professional, friendly and easy atmosphere. A deep knowledge about the food and vine and just a place were things run smoothly. We felt welcomed even without reservation and had really good advice from the owner Alex in relation to food suggestions. The pasta was cooked to perfection and even though it was a simple dish it’s in the simplest tings you find perfection..and I did! Perfect bread and perfect coffee. My boyfriend had a salad that was just so fresh and tasty that even he who usually likes meat was very happy. This one was with shrimp and avocado. So...just wow! We will absolutely visit again next time.

I just spent a couple of weeks in San francisco and ate in several lovely restaurants in the city but Seven Hills was my favourite as I felt there was thought and effort put into the vegetarian options on the menu. As a vegetarian for 25+ years I tend to avoid Italian restaurants as I often find the options to be unimaginative and overpriced for what you get but the Macheronchelli pasta totally blew me away. It was the best restaurant made vegetarian pasta I have had. Although it was over my budget as I was visiting from Thailand, I found it to be only marginally more expensive than many of the other more casual eateries (restaurants & bars) that I had eaten vegetarian food in. I think this is just San Francisco in general though. The prices for sure are inflated relative to other less touristy cities. Anyway it was a special occasion so it was worth it and I was more than happy that my veggie meal was prepared to such a surprisingly good standard. I would go back and eat there again should the chance arise someday. The place itself is also lovely, upscale but has a cosy feel, The staff were also lovely, welcoming and attentive. I hope to go back someday.

This is a another overly yelped-hyped restaurant. Yes, the food and the service are great. Any Denny's has better ambiance than this place. Maybe they are victims of their own success? Did you guys packed in the tables to get more costumers? A note: If I am going to spend $200 on dinner for two, I want tablecloths, and not having to lay down my silverware on a table of questionable cleanliness. I also want a degree of privacy, not having to listen to every word of the gripping conversation from my next-table neighbors. A restaurant at this price point should pay attention to ALL details, not just the food.

Small, cozy, welcoming place with out of this world Italian food - Tortelloni with shaved truffles was melt in your mouth delicious

Five star service with excellent food. Bread was excellent, best brussel sprouts I've had in a long time. Desert was excellent as well as the pasta.

It is so enjoyable to have a great restaurant experience. We had dinner at Seven Hills on a Friday night in September before a concert. We were sat a few minutes earlier than our reservation time at the last available table. The restaurant is small and cute, but not too small (you don't have to move tables to get in your seat). The service from everyone was impeccable from beginning to end. I am constantly perplexed that (very good) restaurants can't get this right more often, but what a treat when they do. For dinner we had the blistered shishito peppers for an appetizer and shared the Maccheroncelli, Chitarra, and Cappelletti. The Maccheroncelli. Wow. What incredible dish. Perfect flavored, perfectly cooked. The Cappelletti was great, and the Chitarra was very good. Really wonderful Italian food. We enjoyed a bottle of the 2015 Barberesco. It was an excellent pairing for the dishes. Quick tip: When you make reservations ask for a table by the front window.

This was our 40th Anniversary Meal. I chose Seven Hills based upon research and reviews. We could not have been more pleased! Alex gave us a table by the window and the chef brought a couple of unexpected appetizers that were marvelous. We started with a salad followed by Fontina Meatballs. Best we have ever tasted! My wife had the Fettucine and I had the marinated Pork Chop. Again, both were absolutely mouth watering! Alex brought us two glasses of Prosecco on the house to go with our dessert. Alex and his wait staff went out if their way to make our night special. This was a wonderful experience!!

It’s a great Italian restaurant with good food and good service. However the seating and ambience is very ordinary. A bit on the expensive side though. Recommend

The table was ready right when we arrived on a busy Saturday night. It was booked through Open Table at 8:45. My partner and I had the garlic & parmasian focaccia OMG a must have! & warm olives (very salty) to start, followed by the American Wagyu Carpoccio & Tomato Braised Polpette (2 very large meatballs, could have stopped hear bc it was filling). My partner had the Orecchiette which is Genovese basil pesto, garlic, cherry tomato, Borlotti beans & breadcrumbs. I had the Triangoli Which is honey nut squash, mascarpone cheese, chive burro fuso and pomegranet seeds THE STAR of the night. We have been to Italy and tge food was just as good.

We were in San Francisco again recently for an extended visit/stay and enjoyed eating here 3 times! Having reservations really helps! These are some of the things we had and loved: Maccheroncelli, Prosciutto Salad, Sprouts, Mixed Green Salad, Chocolate and Tortelloni. The food here is AMAZING as well as the service. Perfect for couples! Our waiter was Michael one night and William the other two nights....FANTASTIC service!!!!!!!!!!!!! :)

I had squid ink seafood pasta, as a special. It was great, with lots of flavor in the sauce including a touch of smoked bacon. The place is small, and there are not white tablecloths, but the food is really good.

Excellent food, creative menu, warm (slightly too dark) ambience, moderate noise level, and very gracious service. What more could you want ? We had a wonderful dinner and would go back again. The only criticism is that we resent the tiny-print disclosure of an added 6% fee (over any gratuity left) to defray the cost of employee benefits: it is offensive for management to pass this charge on to customers when it is their responsibility to cover it - and patrons likely take it out of the tip, which only ends up hurting the staff. Get rid of that charge, and it will be perfect.

This was our second time eating at Seven Hills. I think it might have been even better than last year. Our waiter suggested we order family style so we could have a tasting of everything. It was a great suggestion. We had a tableful of appetizers. One was better than the next. For our second course we have 2 pastas that we let the chief chose. The pastas were unbelievable! We had their homemade pasta with 2 different sauces. One was a spicy red sauce and the other one was a meat sauce. They were both amazing! For our main courses we had a sliced steak, pork chop and a red snapper. We thoroughly enjoyed our dining experience. We all loved every bite. They could have not been more accommodating to our party of 6. Thank you Alex for getting us in and having us sit all together. It was a perfect dinner!

Debated whether to review the restaurant and chef's creations - but decided that we can only come here when visiting from out of town - so others should share our love of this one of a kind, small but savory sensation place. Anthony Florian should be on every "Top Ten Chefs" list - Come on Saveur and Bon Appetit, Seven Hills is one of THE most consistent 5* restaurants in Northern California. And, we are blessed with many. Maybe Michelin will swoop in with a star.

Alexis and crew played along wonderfully with our surprise dinner arrival to meet our sons and their families. Food was excellent, staff were wonderful, and ambience was perfect!

Had several appetizers, crudo was tasteless, wine selection is pathetic. Waitress pressed us to order everything at once which i hate. I had the pork chop which was bland. Wife had parpadelle which was just ok. No ambiance. Even the chocolate dessert was bland. Go somewhere else

My son lives in the same building, and insisted we go there. It was great! The fontina stuffed meatballs for appetizer left us wanting more. We all liked out pasta course. I particularly liked mine with corn and mushrooms that was both sweet and savory. Dessert could not be skipped. They are moving, but not closing. I am looking forward to checking the new locale on my next trip to San Francisco.

The best meal I’ve had in my entire life, and it was an accident. We happened to be walking by and stopped in, by some miracle they had an available table. It was wonderful!!!

Stumbled on what I would call a real find. The most amazing food that it deserves more than one Michelin star. We do not eat this excellent food in London because we cannot afford it. This Seven Hills restaurant on the way to Fisherman's Wharf is better than any Michelin star restaurant anywhere and we can afford it to eat regularly without any problem. Thank you Alexis for giving us such an excellent meal and excellent truly genuine service. I promise we will be back for more before we leave San Francisco. Maggie

This is a tiny neighborhood restaurant, with great food and service. The steak tartare was excellent as well as the mushroom pasta. Relaxed and friendly service, not rushed but quite efficient. A great dining experience. Be sure to reserve ahead, as this is a very small restaurant

For the past several years my wife and I have been coming here religiously for birthdays and anniversaries. There just isn't a place that compares in terms of ambience, food and wine quality, and service. We're both from here. This is the place that in the know locals will swear by, but will probably not tell you about, purposefully.

Made a reservation well in advance. Small neighborhood type of place. Actually reminded us a bit of some of the places we like to eat in nyc. Arrived and was warmly greeted and seated immediately. Very friendly and efficient server . Salads and meatball app (excellent)to start. I had salmon , my wife and daughter beautiful homemade pasta dishes. Excellent Pinot noir at a fair price and a very comfortable room and window table. Food wise the best of our 11 day trip. This is not just a comfort food place as pleasant as our meal was. Very high end sophisticated eatery with cooks who know what they are doing. I would go here again and again if I lived near. Excellent!

The place was just what we wanted away from the main area, however it was worth the walk. I would highly recommendable this place and you can book before hand

Everything we tried was delicious. We will definitely return to this place. Is so nice to find a gem when visiting a city far from home.

In looking at most of the T.A. reviews, we had great expectations. First of all, the menu is very limited, but unique. The restaurant itself is small, and tables are quite close to each other. Our waiter (Michael?), was wonderful; explained the menu in detail to us, and never missed a beat when we needed something. The food.......the highlight was the side of oven roasted Brussel Sprouts. Fantastic. My wife had the Black Cod (very small portion - probably about 3 oz.; the broccolini very tough); I had the Black Squid Ink Pasta with Kauai Shrimp. The sauce was exquisite, but the pasta was so al dente that I couldn't wrap it around my fork, and there were about 6 or 7 very small butterflied shrimp. For dessert we both had the Panna Cotta; it was so runny that didn't resemble the named dish. We had 1 glass of wine and an ice tea, 2 entrees, 1 side, 2 desserts and 2 regular coffees, and the bill was $153. In my book, that's high! Their bread was really good, but $2????? That came as a surprise when the bill came. We're weren't asked if we wanted it (but glad we had it), and for $150, I would expect bread to be figured into the cost of the meal. $2..... really??? It was an interesting experience, as we always enjoy going into San Francisco for an evening, but we will probably not return.

We had a wonderful dinner experience. Louis was spot on with his wine recommendation, and very attentive throughout our dinner. We had the best lamb ever! The buffalo mozzarella was delightful. Who am I kidding - it was to die for! You can not beat locally sourced food. It was a great date night with my wife, especially since they had gluten free pasta.

The ambience is very nice and the food is heavenly. The carpaccio for an app was delicious. We then had the Amatriciana pasta and the Papardelle. This were just out of this world. We shared both so they brought them in sequence. Portions are not huge so you can taste a little of everything. We ended dinner with the chocolate buoudini… just amazing. This was one of the best dinner experiences in a long time. Will come back!

This place was amazing, and we’ve already recommended it to our local SF friends. Not only was the food phenomenal, but the employees were also wonderful. We went on a Monday night, and we’re able to get in before 6pm without a reservation. We sat at the bar, looking out at the street - wonderful place for people and cable car watching too! We ordered a couple of different dishes we had planned to share - and the waiter, on his own realized this, and said he’d have the plates come out for different courses with side plates so we could share (and the food wouldn’t get cold while we split the food). That level of attention to detail was impressive, and the absolutely perfect suggestion. The food itself is was incredibly tasty, rich in flavor, and just perfect, all the way down to the dessert. Cannot recommend this place highly enough!

Amazing food and drinks! Sarah our server was attentive, friendly and awesome. We love coming here and always have a great time!

Park at the Jug Shop (great wine store) at 1590 Pacific and pay at their cashier. Seven Hills offers upscale Italian cooking with gracious service and an excellent wine list. The Macceroncelli was great and the black truffle pasta was special.

Fantastic Italian restaurant in a small french bistro environment with extremely friendly service. I have recommended this place to a number of friends after dining here and it has been without question a major hit with everyone. Everything we had was great, I will certainly plan to return as soon as possible.

Relaxed and intimate setting with excellent attentive waite staff. The Raviolo made me swoon, what a great night out.

An exceptional dining experience in a wonderful neighborhood. The service was top notch and the food was simply divine. Wish we lived closer, we'd be regulars.

The manager is quite service minded at seated us at the bar as we had no reservation on Sunday evening.the place was fully booked. Really good selection of cured meats and pastas, and Italian wines. I had the bone marrow and fish of the day, very well cooked. Fish was crispy on the skin but still moist in the inside. Would visit this place again very soon.

The food was fantastic, the presentation was exquisite, but I didn't leave feeling like I spent money in a good way. I could feed my family for 2 weeks with the money I'd spend on one meal here. I guess that's what fine dining is all about though.

Food was good so it was my wine. Server little too busy but he did ok. I do recommend the tortellini

Was taken here for my 40th birthday treat by my hubby whilst on holiday in San Francisco (date of visit 27/05/2018). The food was absolutely amazing, the staff were very kind and attentive - answering all my questions about ingredients etc and the ambience was lovely. The staff even proved they can keep secrets as they colluded with my hubby over a surprise birthday cake he'd had delivered to them for my big day. Couldn't have had my special birthday meal in a more special place!

A small restaurant with a limited menu but prepared extremely well. Interesting but expensive wine list. The menu changes with what’s fresh and available. We had a tomato salad that was so fresh it reminded us our own garden variety. The risotto was excellent, creative, and creamy. The only complaint was that they charged for bread although it was very fresh and flavorful. The olive oils used were of exceptional quality. The dessert was probably the least successful course but still satisfied.

Went with a friend to celebrate our mutual birthdays. Shared a mixed green salad and burrata appetizers. Both excellent. Passed on pastas, which were $20-26, which is overpriced, but common in SF. I don't recall our entrees, but one was a fish, which was excellent. Food overall was very good. Felt it was average price for a nice meal in SF. Very good wine list. Would definitely go again. Take taxi/uber/lyft as parking is very difficult in this area.

We walked in without a reservation on a rainy evening and sat at the cozy bar. We were served by Nick, who was extremely friendly and helpful with Bay Area recommendations. Ordered the polpette to start, which were stuffed with ricotta and delicious. I had the tagliatelle, which was excellent, but the star of the evening was my wife’s maccheroncelli—creamy and perfect. Finished the meal off with a tangy lemon tart topped with coconut shavings. Yum. Loved the friendly neighborhood vibe of this place. Don’t hesitate to visit.

What a cucina ITALIANA! Absolutely perfect pasta with truffles and chop , light and gentle like a feather ! Absolutely fantastic evening with great food ! Thank You and all the best ! Pawel

Five stars all round. Great find on my short San Francisco trip. Small popular restaurant so book in advance. Lucky to get a table for my birthday. Great welcome. Friendly professional staff. Pleasant surroundings. We had a variety of dishes. All well seasoned and tasted great. Washed down with a very pleasurable red. Wish this was my local.

This is a really popular neighborhood restaurant with exquisite Italian cuisine, moderate wine list, and excellent service.

This is a restaurant I have been wanting to visit for some time...booking well in advance is a must! We began our meal with the Shrimp Salad; four perfectly cooked and fresh off the boat shrimp. They were amazing. Continuing on with the County Line Little Gems Salad, perfectly dressed and just the right amount of Dolce Gorgonzola. My husband had the Pork Chop which he proclaimed the best he had ever had. I decided upon the Caramelle pasta stuffed with buffalo ricotta and Hudson Valley foie gras tossed in a chive burro fusso and finished with an albion strawberry agro dolce. It was in a word, magnificent! We finished with the Strauss Panna Cotta

Had a wonderful time at 7 hills. Only 2 words - “must try” Make sure you reserve it online. Small place & extremely popular All the specials were great Everything

Excellent pasta and service in a very pleasant neighborhood setting. We will dine at Seven Hills again as soon as the chance arrises. It's a little pricey, but worth it.

Our group of four was extremely pleased with the cuisine, wine and service at Seven Hills. Although parking is a challenge, it was well worth it eat here. I shared the charcuterie plate and the pork chop as the entree. Others had 5he persimmon salad(very good) and soup as appetizers. My wife had the special which was the pasta with truffles(good but not great and quite expensive-$45). Another had the pasta with meat sauce which he loved. Portion sizes are very generous so we did not order desserts. We will definitely return.

The food is well prepared, but I can't say it's special. Worthy to try, but I may not go back since there're so many good restaurants in SF. It's very hard to find a parking in that area.

We recently dined at Seven Hills, of course using Trip Advisor as our guide. This is a super cute restaurant whose food and service are beyond its quaint size. The portions are small, although we ended up ordering a plate or so more than we needed. I would say they are bigger than tapas size, but not your typical Italian NYC pasta dish (thankfully). All of the dishes we tried were exceptional. Service was also top notch!

I took 2 friends as a special thank you and my highest hopes were exceeded by the menu, the service of the staff, the wine list and the excellent taste of the food. I started with a bottle of the 2012 Montepulciano D'Abruzzo and the cold Italian heirloom tomato soup - both were delicious and smooth tasting. Included in the start were 2 amuse offerings from the chef plus the farro salad - all excellent and got us ready for the main dishes. The squash blossom pasta dish proceeded the best black Cod with garbanzo beans in a light tomato broth entree that I have ever had. Lastly, I had the chocolate dessert and I left with a heavenly glow. I highly recommend that you try Seven Hills for a lasting quality memory of San Francisco.

Pretty good food and well priced. Pork chop is excellent and all the pastas are good. The wine list is a joke, paid 99.00$ for a twenty dollar bottle. Also the dreaded SF health charge is added to the bill instead of fairly incorporated into the food charge. The tables are very close together so no privacy at all. Too bad about the wine list and surcharges because the chef is clearly very good.

The new location for this restaurant is roomier and more comfortable. The food was creative and delicious. Highly recommend!

Great TripAdvisor reviews made me book a table here. It’s very small so would recommend that you book beforehand. Shared a starter, a main and a dessert which was plenty for two. Amazing starter of nectarine, pistachio, rocket and mozzarella salad followed by main of salmon and panna cotta for dessert. All exceptionally tasty and beautifully presented. Good wine list and very attentive service. Very reasonably priced for the standard of food. Highly recommended.

We attended Seven Hills as a family with two teenage children, on our last night in San Francisco and we were not disappointed. We arrived to be seated within five minutes at our booked time. The waiter explained the specials and so a culinary feast began....we had the stuffed meatballs and mixed baby lettuce salad to share which which both were fantastic. They set the bar high for the main course's, but wow did the chef deliver...we had three different pasta dishes and all were exceptionally good. I had the veal special which was the best pasta dish I have ever ate at a restaurant. The broth it was in was so good. At this point we got talking to the owner Alex, who on finding out we from UK, made us even more welcome. The desserts were as good as previous dishes and were a great finish to a wonderful culinary treat. Alex then gave us a glass of prosecco on the house which was a generous gesture and then went on to advised us on how to get back up the hill free of charge on the tram... have to say I bottled it and paid the $28 ..but the trip back to hotel hanging off tram was a fun end to a night we won’t forget. A great meal in a great restaurant. It will be first place we come to have dinner if we come back to San Francisco.

We had an enjoyable dinner at this restaurant serving seasonal Italian-inspired food. We were visiting our son and he had gotten recommendations from some of his foodie friends. Our table was outside in one of the former Covid shacks that cannibalized a few street parking spaces where traffic passes by just inches away. It was a typical cool-ish night in the city but the restaurant had enhanced the spaces with outdoor heaters hung directly above the tables which helped ward off the cool air. Their menu we were told varies with the bounty of the season so our summertime visit was lush with seasonal fruits, cheeses and more. One of these items, and what I thought was the most outstanding dish of the night, was a buffalo cheese and grilled stone-fruit salad-so good with its peaches, cherries and creamy sweet soft cheese and crunchy hazelnuts. We also sampled the meatball (2 large soft balls with lush tomato sauce and some grilled bread) as well as the delicious garlic focaccia bread that's made in house. We sampled 4 different pastas with seasonal ingredients all made with care. Our server was fantastic and despite having quite a few tables, seemed to always appear when we needed something or to check in. You can expect a delightful experience dining here-reservations are a must.

This intimate neighborhood restaurant in Russian Hill is our favorite in San Francisco. We've enjoyed it several times now on recent visits and each has been a delight. It's a little pricey, but the quality is superb.

Service and food were amazing. Small place. Can get noisy. Limited menu so probably not for picky eaters. Had the black squid ink pasta with crab- delicious! My date had the pork ragu tagletelle. Pasta was definitely homemade. Only wine - no beer or alcohol. Definitely make a reservation ahead of time.

Cute neighborhood restaurant with excellent homemade pastas and outstanding service. The truffle tortellini was out of this world. Focaccia bread was fresh and the burratta was nicely done. Plates are small but taste is big!

3 of us went, all had pasta, all excellent. My daughter wasn’t too keen on her pesto pasta (more to do with the bland taste buds of an 11 year old than the food quality) but they comped it and brought a tomato pasta she loved on the house. Excellent food and the same for customer service. Would defiantly come again.

While Seven Hills may be a hidden gem, it's no secret among food enthusiasts seeking an authentic taste of Italy in the heart of San Francisco. Whether you're celebrating a special occasion or simply craving a memorable meal, a visit to Seven Hills promises an enchanting culinary adventure that will leave you longing to return again and again.

The bar features a cozy and intimate atmosphere with dim lighting and comfortable seating. The drink menu is extensive and includes classic cocktails as well as unique creations. The bartenders are skilled and knowledgeable, providing excellent service and recommendations. The bar also offers a small selection of bar bites, including charcuterie and cheese boards. Overall, House of Nomad Bar is a great spot for a date night or a night out with friends.

I had high hopes of this place with all the great TA reviews. But the experience was not good and not to be repeated. We were a table of four last Sunday evening and the the place was packed. Thanks TA! The starters of meatballs were tasteless, the mozzarella in breadcrumbs were very bland indeed and the salad of lettuce underspiced and uninspiring. The pasta mains were tiny and we looked at them in disbelief. They were tastier, but to me looked like entrees. My chicken was bigger and moist, but like the rest of the food really, really bland. But the worst was we waited a long time between course, then when the main courses finally came, the man clearing the plates away took three of them off the table, while one of my party were still eating. Unforgivable. The waiter, who had an earring, seemed bored and told us all the specials were already sold except one. Water was not replenished quickly enough and it took a LONG time for the waiter to serve us between orders. We didn’t eat dessert. By then I couldn’t wait to leave. They charged for bread we didn’t order, but again didn’t quibble as I wanted to get out. We drank beer and a few glasses of wine and the bill was over $300. Really not good enough. This restaurant is overhyped. Maybe it was good, but the TA reviews must have made it slack or lazy. Especially when there are truly great places to eat, not pretentious, at a quarter of the price. Very disappointed. AVOID.

I'm worried. Perhaps for nothing but I do tend to obsess over food. On a recent quick business trip to S.F. from Southern California entertaining a client I searched Tripadvisor for the best rated Italian restaurant by reviewers. I always use it for international travel and have found it gives a good indication of what is the best and worst of restaurants and hotels. Seven Hills quickly appeared and although there were no reservations left on Opentable (about a week in advance) a quick call to the restaurant secured three seats on a Thursday night. Bear in mind that this review is from a Southern California perspective. Now I do have to say that I did not find any of the complaints that some have lodged regarding poor or "snooty" service, small portions, loudness, or being tiny. I believe it seats about 40 people but I would agree that from our table position it was a bit cramped. We brought two bottles of our own wine at $25.00 corkage each which was fair but if not for the three of us being in the wine business and pouring our own bottles we would have happily purchased off the list, which I considered both interesting and fairly priced, especially considering Orange County prices. I also saw bottles of wine on almost every table which I believe confirms my opinions. We three enjoyed the smaller, "daily" menu with just a few selections in each category. As I mentioned I do obsess about food and often am the last one to order since I believe, like every Italian "Nonna," that it is my divine right to select and have the freshest and finest dishes on the menu at all times. WARNING: Some of the photos and menu photos posted on Tripadvisor are from a restaurant "Hills" and is a different restaurant with a much larger menu. Each menu at Seven Hills is a simple letter size document and is dated for that day. The meatballs were shared and were as good as I have ever tried (or made), the Mixed Baby Lettuces salad was nice and fresh, and the Grilled Port Chop very very nice, if cooked medium-rare to the rare side when medium was ordered. Nevertheless it was delicious and I found the portion size fine. The Strauss Panna Cotta was also very good. We all came away with the impression that the meal was very very good, portion sizes were appropriate, and prices were fair in comparison to the finest Italian restaurants we regularly dine at in the Orange County/Los Angeles area. We routinely pay a lot more for a lot less with much less "character" to the restaurant. Our server was terrific, sampled both of the bottles we brought at our urging, and never rushed us a bit. He also offered quite diplomatically to bring Parmesan cheese for our guests pasta with a fish (I do not recall the dish exactly and it is not online to review) if he desired (this is evidently a big thing in S.F. to debate whether Parmesan should ever be put on fish). In Orange County we go with the flow. They discussed the subject for a few minutes and it was proclaimed fine without Parmesan and without discord. I wish I could recall his name because he really was good and should be given a shout out for his service and diplomacy! Based on a lifetime of dining experiences I could not ever proclaim that I feel Seven Hills deserves to be the number one Italian restaurant in San Francisco but the majority has voted and that speaks for itself. On the other hand, we consider it to be a "find" and a wonderful little hideaway with character and vibe that is most appealing. It certainly deserves to be on the radar of potential diners and I would encourage them to try Seven Hills even if they prefer Parmesan on their fish. It is also quite charming that the owner speaks to each review on Tripadvisor and I thank her for being so attentive to reviews, good or bad!

One of the best foods and authentic Italian restaurants, not just in San Francisco Warm staff and delicious food in a little hidden lane. memorable evening- hope to be back again!

The food here was spectacular. I ordered the lamb after the server explained that the chef had picked out the animal and had it slaughtered that day and would be cooking each cut to order. It was fantastic. The rest of the family was not as adventurous, but every dish was excellent. A memorable meal.

What could be more San Francisco than having a cable car glide by as you are enjoying a wonderful meal? From the warm reception from Alex to the excellent and enthusiastic service, great wine list and, of course, the delicious food, it is one of our favorite places.

Came here based on high TA reviews and ranking and we weren't disappointed! The food was outstanding and our server Alex was attentive (only negative was he disappeared near the end but that is ok we were having a good time and he might have been taking a break). We got Prosciutto salad, Orechetti and Pappardelle and we werent disappointed. Highly recommend and be sure to make reservations as this is popular spot.

Maccheroncelli best dish on menu. Succulent red sauce with white cream in middle. Meetballs Good as well. The desserts were exceptional. Chocolate Budino was one of best desserts I have ever had and the Straus Panama Cotta was not far behind. Manager extremely responsive and friendly. Great family dinner.

The restaurant is quaint and lovely. The menu changes daily but the 4 of us ordered an appetizer, 2 pastas, 1 main dish (pork Milanese) and 2 sides of veggies. Plus 2 desserts. The portion sizes are on the smaller side but meant for sharing. The food was exquisite! The service was great and the owner was very friendly. I loved dining at this local spot and would definitely recommend it for tourists looking for an authentic dining experience outside the typical SF touristy areas. Thank you Alex for the special Moscato for my birthday!

Great place in town for delicious food. Really nice ambiance and great service. Can't wait to come back

We had a very tasty and good dinner at Seven Hills tonight. A starter with very tasty salat with mozzarella. Dinner with fillet for me and chops for my husband was delissious. So many good ingredianses to the meal! Wine and dessert was also delissius and the service was very good. when we ordered a table with Mailing to the restaurant they was very serviceminded.

the menu shines with authentic and delicious italian items and the specials are just as tempting...we shared a stuffed pasta with wild mushrooms and truffles with truffles shaved on top and it was divine...our entrees were also lovely and delicious with local and fresh ingredients. the service was attentive; the wine list diverse. it felt like a find in north beach tucked into a neighborhood and not looking particularly fancy, but the food and service were stellar and we will return.

Came here for a meal with my girlfriend and was completely blown away by the food and the service. Honestly some of the best food I have ever eaten hands down. The pasta was incredible and Alexi was a fantastic host. Would highly recommend for anyone visiting San Francisco, can’t wait to eat here again!

We were very excited about Seven Hills after reading many reviews and news articles and it did not disappoint. First our service was impeccable and our waitress happened to be from our town. The wine pairing suggestions were spot on. The black truffle tortellini was one of the best pasta dishes we have ever had, including Italy. If you love Italian this a must do in SF

We love good food and this place was amazing. The service was perfect, friendly staff, and the food was so great. Every flavor was on pointe and the dishes so well thought out and prepared. They did a really nice job with the homemade pasta with truffles. We loved the beef carpaccio too. They have a nice wine list that is reasonably priced. Space is charming too. Great experience, thank you !

Food was outstanding- 5 stars. The service was a little lacking but our server was great when she had time to stop by. A wonderful place that I highly recommend.

Food was excellent Service was also very very good Check menu as some might consider slightly limited Wine advice was spot on Atmosphere is good, cosy - tables are close together and we got a loud gentleman to our left but the restaurant couldn't help it - just consider if you want a quiet meal as a couple It was an enjoyable meal

I ate here twice when in SF 5 years ago and loved it. So naturally I wanted to come back. I'm glad to say it was just as wonderful this time as last. The food is fantastic. The chef is very creative and uses local, fresh ingredients as when he can. Alex, the owner and greeter, is very friendly and welcoming, and extremely helpful. He made many great suggestions for our meal. We sat at the (tiny) bar, which was a plus because Alex was right there to chat with. I will definitely visit again the next time I'm in SF!

The food is delicious. Impeccable service. This is the best Italian food in the area. Worth a visiting.

This was our second time here and it will definitely be a “go to” next time in town. We had beet salad, meat balls, thin pork with citrus (special), tortellini, duck liver pate, wagyu carpaccio, tiger prawns, panna cotta. Everything was wonderful. Finding the best food is my passion.

A good friend came to SF on a business trip and I was seeking a good restaurant that was near his hotel. This is a small, neighborhood restaurant that is serving some of the best Italian in the City. Service was outstanding to match the food. Prices are on the higher side, chicken entree was $30 and pasta was mid 20’s. Add in one drink and appetizer and you are looking around 60-70/person.

We had last dined at Seven Hills pre-pandemic, and hoped it was as good. The restaurant was even better, more creative, with incredible dishes. The artichokes and stracciatella incorporated unexpected flavors, innovative and perfect. Fresh and tender tagliatelle with lamb sausage was enveloped in pecorino. Most memorable was the fusilli infused with walnut pesto and entwined with heirloom brocolli and fresh herb sprigs. Focaccia bread pudding swimming in creme anglais, sublime. Service was welcoming, as was the ambiance.

On Hyde street close to Nob Hill that is a very pleasant area. The restaurant is open for dinner only and the place rather small seems to be packed reservations advised. A very large menu offering the basis being Italian but with a lot of creative cooking. Some combinations could be disturbing but what we had was truly excellent. Service is informative and very efficient. Good place for a romantic dinner !

This is a quaint neighborhood restaurant with amazing flavors and creativity. The food is top notch. The menu is constantly changing with the seasons and they don't skimp on quality with anything The seating is very limited and reservations can be difficult to get, but for good reason.

Great location right on the Cable Car Route in Russian Hill. Small, intimate and can make a reservation. We made reservation and sat right down. Had some great squid ink pasta and seafood along with another pasta dish with chicken. They were both excellent. Had a few glasses of red wine. Bread was delicious. Service was good. I would recommend if looking for good Italian in SF.

Seven Hills was described by our hotel concierge as “charming” & that was a perfect adjective. It was a great experience from our warm welcome by the matre d to the end of our meal. We were seated in the back room, which was a bit quieter & more intimate. The food & wine were good…we highly recommend the buffalo mozzarella with grilled peaches appetizer. But the best thing was our server, Kim T…her descriptions of the dishes were clear & articulate…she was on top of any need we had but never hovered.

Absolutely delightful. Loved the European sized serves - if you are used to and desire American portions beware. This location and the food are understated stylish. Flavours robustly subtle. Great sourdough, tasty chunky meatballs, exquisite and au pont al dente spaghetti with best Pinot Grigio in a long time. Defo one for the recommendations

Called last minute for a reservation, but restaurant was full. Alex was nice enough to offer us seats at the bar. So happy he did because it was a fantastic meal. Very small menu, but all great choices, handmade, well-thought-out dishes. Save room for dessert!

A friend made a reservation here as I was in town for my birthday. It was the perfect birthday treat. From the service from our waiter Tony right through to all of the food options, and the Prosecco, it was a gorgeous meal. I don’t think I have had a better all-round experience at a restaurant anywhere in many years. Between the two of us we shared the beetroot salad, the meatball starter, the Machronelli and the pappardelle (which was exceptionally good). Were I a San Francisco local, this would be a very regular place to visit for me

Emma lives in Russian Hill, and she described Seven Hills as a "neighborhood gem", and she was accurate. We had a delightful experience in this small but comfortable restaurant, and Emma walked home from dinner. We had some transportation difficulties, and were late for our reservation (we did call) and they were extremely pleasant about it. The restaurant is known for locally sourced products. Catherine started with a delicious tomato bisque, I enjoyed an Early Girl tomato salad, but Emma picked the winner with the duck pate platter. It was sinfully delightful. Emma chose a special - tortellino (larger than tortellini) stuffed with cheese and finished with truffles over top. It was delicious. Catherine picked the evening's winner: macheronchelli - an elbow macaroni pinched at both ends - that was just spectacular. I chose another special - chicken Milanese - which was also delightful. We didn't have any room for dessert! Our waitress was a lovely lady, and enhanced our experience. The only (small) downside is that it is beer and wine only, so you can't get a cocktail, but it's a small price to pay to enjoy the farm-to-table fare from this lovely restaurant.

Arriving was simple for a couple of cable car novice Antipodeans (Australians). As per concierge's explicit directions we jumped a cable car for the inbound journey. As per my partners implicit guidance the outbound journey rolling through the hills of Frisco led us to a cheap gin joint by the Bay. Eventually located our lodgings in the early hours with guidance from a gentleman bearing a remarkable resemblance to Jack Kerouac who was heavily ensconced at the aforementioned speak easy. Luckily I took some notes during our dining experience to refresh our taste buds. A lovely wagyu carpaccio was washed down with a bone dry rose brut. Pappadelle and lamb, benissimo with a inky barolo. Bay fish over risotto was moist and delicious. I would recommend a comfortable pair of shoes if attempting to navigate back to your hotel by foot.

We were a party of 8 on Presidents’ Day. The restaurant was busy but we were seated promptly nonetheless as we had a reservation. Our incredibly knowledgable and attentive server kindly recommended some wine for us while we waited for the final two from our party to arrive. There were numerous specials to choose from on the night and our server serenaded us with intricate and vivid descriptions of each dish. For starters we shared a variety of dishes with each better than the next. We had the polpette (best meatballs ever), vitello tonnato (delicious interpretation) and duck pâté (to die for). For mains, I went with pasta. A special on the night with squid ink chitarra and Hawaiian shrimp washed down with a delicious glass of Sauvignon Blanc.Hands down this is one of the best pasta dishes that I have ever tasted. The pasta was fresh and perfectly cooked and the portion was generous with plenty of mouth watering shrimp. Although full to the brim, I managed to find room for dessert and went with a delightful panna cotta. This place is a must try! The best of ingredients are used and all of the staff are passionate about the food being served which is refreshing to see. I am already looking forward to getting back to San Francisco to eat here again.

We love trying new places so we rarely go back to restaurants but we've been to 7 hills many many times and we keep going back... It's a nice cozy local restaurant that serves amazing farm to table food (they even have a special event every year where the farmers are there to explain their work and send you back home after a great meal with a box of fresh products). The wine list is fun and reasonably priced. The owner Alex welcomes you like a friend and always makes your evening special. Anthony, the talented chef, prepares fun, fresh and delicious plates using the best quality ingredients. We personally prefer to skip main courses and tap into their appetizers and their pastas which are all amazing: even the simplest sauce explodes with flavors there. If you have not yet tried this place, you absolutely have to... make sure to book ahead though as it's small and very busy!

My son has been wanting to try Seven Hills for awhile. I saw Seven Hills featured on an episode of Bay Area Check Please and decided I wanted to try it, too! We did not have a reservation, but showed up at 5:00 on a Friday night and they were kind enough to seat us. The place is small (tables are pretty close together) but if that doesn't bother you, grab a seat and enjoy your dinner. The very charming and very tall waiter explained the menu (which can change) to us very thoroughly. They are very proud of their purveyors of meat and cheese. The fish special (petrale sole) was fresh from the Bay that day. We enjoyed the Ramini Buffalo Mozzarella to start. My son had the fresh sole and I had the Pappardelle. We also ordered a side of brussel sprouts. Everything was delicious!! Now I want to go back and try the fontina stuffed meatballs and some more of that wonderful pasta - YUM!!!

My wife and I came here for dinner after going to the theater and had a great experience. The bone marrow appetizer was rich with a nice combination of sweet, the Foie gras stuffed pasta was incredible. It was perfectly cooked with a savory flavor. The service was prompt and our server made some recommendations that improved our experience. This is a great restaurant for Italian cuisine in San Francisco.

Seven hills is one of those gems of the city that you just love to go to because of their great service.. oh and the food is a 10. I am a concierge at a hotel in San Francisco and have made dozens of reservations for my guests and i tell you the amazing stories they tell me about their experiences. You will just have to discover it for yourself...

We had dinner at Seven Hills at the beginning of November with high expectations. And we were not disappointed. The food was fantastic, the service was excellent and the ambience made our stay very comfortable. We would come back anytime and recommend a visit to Seven Hills to everyone.

This is a great restaurant. This is our second visit here and it is still amazing. The menu is a bit short but covers the bases and maybe on this occasion service could have been better. However, the kitchen staff and chef are still brilliant! The starter we shared was nice. Also, of course, the fish and pasta mains were good, well cooked and were delicious and well presented. The bill was bit pricey but remember this restaurant is close to being the best in San Francisco!

Tried here as a Saturday night meal and it was very good We took the special pasta ratter than from the standard menu and it was excellent. Menu limited to 5 or so choices per course normally Service is good and the waiter explained the dishes, this place is a cut above

We were on a repeat visit as a Couple to San Francisco, and on our way back from a Restaurant on a Friday night, our chatty Cab Driver enquired what other Restaurants we intended visiting during our stay? We mentioned "Seven Hills", and, in response, he marveled that we had managed to get a Booking there - we explained that we had planned our Trip months ahead, had been extremely careful to ensure we contacted "Seven Hills" in advance, and were greatly looking forward to going there again. Clearly, other people apart from us, highly rate this Restaurant - it's in the Top 5 rated Restaurants on "Trip Advisor", by the way. So, on to actually experiencing "Seven Hills" on a Saturday night. As before, its street-front facade is quite charming, and the interior is relatively compact but intimate. Our Host - Proprietor Alexis Solomou - welcomed us back, and steered us to an excellent Table. Alex is without doubt an extremely impressive guy : personable, articulate and clearly (and highly energetically) committed to providing an excellent experience for all who visit his establishment. Our (main) Server, Tony, looked after us very well - attentive, without being intrusive. From the many attractive options, we had fine Meatballs and a Pate as "Starters". For "Mains", my "Better Half", M, opted for a Pasta Dish, which she deemed "very good". I had a bit of a difficulty with my Steak Dish, which I had requested "Medium-Well" - Chefs just seem to have a problem going this far, but Alexis readily dealt with my not unreasonable problem when I was, initially and disappointingly, presented with Beef which was unarguably "Medium-Rare"! From quite a short Wine-List, between us we savoured a Bottle of "Pecorino", while M also enjoyed a Glass of (Red) "San Giovese" with her "Main". Overall, this was an extremely enjoyable Meal for us. We, as a Couple, did not feel "pressed", but as people who look around us, and take-in what's happening, we took the impression that Staff put a degree of pressure on guests to not dally as they eat - perhaps because in such a small Restaurant, there's a need to turn-over Tables on any given night? Interestingly, for all that we would surely qualify as being in the "Older" category, there was quite a mix of age categories also enjoying the "Seven Hills" experience. Our Check/Bill was extremely reasonable for the night - we've noted some comments on prices on "Trip Advisor", and we must honestly say, as Visitors to the expensive City of San Francisco who dined in several venues, we certainly did not consider the charges at "Seven Hills" as excessive, by comparison with other Restaurants. "Seven Hills" has built-up its deservedly highly positive reputation over a period of 8 years - it would not surprise us if Alexis seeks to extend that success beyond his current location, and we would wish him well in that regard. Our renewed thanks to Alexis & Staff - we would hope to again enjoy your highly impressive hospitality at some future date!

Friendly staff and the owner is "veramente bello." Reminded me of the the old days 30 years ago when Hyde Street had some real jewels. And if this were a jewel it would be a diamond.

Great food, relaxed but excellent and friendly service. Seven Hills and Acquerello make for as fine a pair of Italian restaurants as anywhere in the US. Try the very simple but superb macheroni. About as great as pasta gets. And my wife and women friends tell me that the co-owner and host, Alex, is about as gorgeous as guys get. But I go for the food.

The food was exquisite and a must try when in San Francisco. Small but comfortable restaurant be sure to make reservations.

Four of us had dinner her on a Monday evening. It was a first time visit for all of us. We were seated promptly and given a nice amuse bouche. Our excellent waiter described several specials and we ordered an appetizer, two salads, and four different pasta dishes two of which were specials. We also had an excellent bottle of red wine and two glasses of white. The food and wine was delicious. The restaurant is very small, maybe 40 seats but we did not feel crowded and the noise level was not a problem in any way. Reservations are highly recommended given the restaurants size. Highly recommended. We will return, soon.

Our party of four had a wonderful evening at Seven Hills in early June. The food was creatively prepared and was delicious - truly one of the best pasta dishes I have ever eaten (Tagliatelli Verde). . Our waitress Kimthi was the consummate professional, serving efficiently and working hard to find the right wine for one of our party who had a particular taste in mind. Highly recommended restaurant in the Russian Hill neighbourhood.

We ate very delicious dinner, we can highly recommend the restaurant.........Nice service.....

My son, who is living in San Francisco, celebrated his 25th birthday at this restaurant and had such a wonderful meal there that when we visited from South Africa he insisted we eat a meal there so we duly booked with our credit card as a means of securing our seat ( the only times available were 5pm or 8.30 so we had to take 5pm as we had a very early plane trip out of SFO the next morning) and arrived in good time, very excited to finally be having a delicious Italian meal. Unfortunately we had an awful supercilious waiter called Louis/Lewis who totally rushed our meal. I got the distinct impression that this was because I wasn’t drinking as I was driving so I asked for water and tap at that and my husband ordered a glass of white wine (fully planning to have a red with his main course) and this of course reduced the price of the meal and hence his tip. We also don’t like squid and really wanted a good pasta so we did not go for the totally overpriced specials on offer Anyway we ordered our starters and before we had taken two sips of our drinks the food arrived. The food was delicious but all too soon we had finished eating and our plates were whisked away and the main course was served before my husband had half finished his glass of wine. The main courses - two pasta dishes- were really tiny and the dollar price for a half slice of sourdough bread was ridiculously expensive, however the food was extremely delicious so we overlooked the size of the portions and tucked in happily. My biggest problem is that I had just spooned the last portion of my pasta into my mouth and Lewis took my plate away - I hadn’t even started chewing let alone finished. I was furious and would have said something but did not want to spoil my husband’s evening any further so we finished up and were out of our fast food restaurant feeling very let down. Would I eat there again? I don’t think so- the food was good but not that good to overlook such poor service - pity but I sincerely hope you get a better waiter than Louis/Lewis.

Small, quaint modern Italian restaurant. Have dined multiple times and always consistently amazing food and wine. Love all the pasta and the fish is phenomenal! Recommend sharing both. Book in advance

This intimate restaurant serves wonderful food. It is located in a small space, so not appropriate for large parties. The pasta we ordered was excellent! We each had a glass of lovely wine. For dessert we ordered some tasty Swensen's ice cream with expresso to pour over the top. Delicious! Although we did not need it, gluten free options are available. Appreciated that they do take a reservation. For some, the menu might seem limited - you can check online before you go.

What a great ambience and excellent food! Loved the duck liver patè as appetizer. The leg of lamb was outstanding and the pasta dishes with chanterelles - very delicious. As if that weren’t enough, the pana cotta is so light refreshing, it was impossible to put that spoon down. We also tried the chocolate pudding which was outstanding. Definitely coming back.

I visited the Seven Hills restaurant whilst on holiday in San Francisco and I would advise everyone to eat here! Food was incredible and staff were lovely. When I go back to SF, this will be my first stop! Loved it here!
Lovely food, but very loud on a Thursday
It's a cozy place and the food and service were lovely, but I'm not excited to go back. It was pretty loud inside.
