Food ok, excellent service!

By 503Jetsetter |

It was a tossup between giving this place 3 or 4 stars. The food was ok (stopped in here for burgers and fries on a Saturday afternoon), but the service was absolutely wonderful. Attentive and quick servers that were not overbearing at all. Reasonable prices, FABULOUS view of the Columbia River. The food, while not bad, was not memorable. Sextant seems like the kind of place where you meet friends for a couple of beers with good music and some video lottery. Again, this is not to say the food was bad, it just wasn't a knockout burger like I've had at some other places. 5 stars for service, 4 for ambiance and 3 for food (I'd give it a 3.5 if I could!).

Good food and drinks at a realistic price

By STEVE H |

This place is somewhere I like to stop for a drink after work or for lunch. The bar is well stocked and reasonable prices, especially during happy hour. The food is also really good for the price You can't go wrong at the sextant.

Great view, good food, great service, good prices.

Stopped in for lunch on a rainy Sunday. Place was about half full and we seated ourselves at Window booth so we could watch the river. Our server was prompt and helpful. She brought me a sample of their chili to taste so I could check out how spicy it was. Too much for me so I skipped the chili burger . Had the bacon cheese burger. Big and juicy. Nice crisp fries. My partner had fish and chips which were also good. Thr food and presentation are fine ,nothing fancy or inspired. Perfectif you get a view of the river.

Only if you have a LOT of time

By MrRodgers2011 |

Arrived at 6pm on a Sunday evening. The Sextant patio is a wonderful place to have a meal and watch the activities on the Columbia River which is within 50 yards of where you are dining. There were 3 servers working at the time. The patio has about 12 tables that seat 4-6 people under umbrellas. We waited about 10 minutes for the server designated for our table to appear. She explained she had a full table inside the restaurant that were on separate tickets making many small orders. We ordered two glasses of wine and that took another 10 minutes or so. We are not fast drinkers so we nursed the drinks for about 20 minutes. Our glasses were empty at that time and in another five minutes or so she came back to take food orders. No further apologies were offered. We ordered two steak specials with salads. The salads appeared rather quickly by comparison, however she was unable to find any forks to eat with and had to go back inside the restaurant, returning in another 5 minutes or so. We waited another 15 or so minutes for our steaks, which were done per our order. Also on the plate was our selected mashed potatoes and a vegetable medley in a white cup. Those were over cooked and beyond rescue - mostly a mushy mess. The mashed potatoes were icy cold. We ate the steak, and when we saw our server again (forgot to check back with us in a reasonable amount of time) I complained. We negotiated for two slices of garlic bread which came after another few minutes. So if you have all the time in the world for dinner, and don't mind food that is not terribly well done (the steaks were the exception) - this is the place to go! I will say, our server discounted both meals because of the cold potatoes. They appear to need a lot more training here - especially the servers who should never bring food to a table that they wouldn't eat.

The Sextant Bar and Grill

By Greg W |

The Patio is small , but you also have great view of the Columbia River . We just had drinks there and they great as well . They do have a pool table and bar in the main building , they serve food as well.

Great view, food, prices and service!!

By Claudiagenna |

Located on the Columbia River, at 40th and Marine Dr. I love this cozy restaurant/bar, with an outside patio deck, that would be wonderful during good weather!!! It is right next to Salty's, an upscale restaurant. The chili, homemade, was some of the BEST, I have ever had in a bar, bowl/cheese/onions....$5!!! The BLT was excellent as well!!! Beers, mixed drinks....all reasonably priced.

Fun time watching the boats and eating

By Kathy B |

Had a good meal, fish and chips. And the fried clam strips are the most tender I have ever had. Sat for 20 minutes before anyone acknowledged we were there. We sat outside every time we were there. Once we were waited on we were well cared for and did not want for anything. We have gone there at least once a month all summer. Have no idea how service is if you sit inside. I ma sure we will find out soon.

Easy and good

By Claudia L |

We have been on a 3 week road trip and staying at a Marriott hotel near the airport. With nothing but fast food near our hotel, we drove a short easy drive to the Sextant Bar and Grill on the Columbia River. At the start of our trip a few weeks ago we ate at the next door place, Salty's, and paid a whole lot more for a meal we didn't enjoy as much. At Sextant, we were seated outside on the patio with a great view of the river. it was still happy hour so we ordered drinks and food from the almost unbelievably low priced menu. We really didn't expect much from the food, but we were surprised and happy with our meals: pulled pork sliders (2 for $5 and really yummy), great french fries, and fresh, crispy caesar salads. Our well drink gin/tonics were great, too. Best of all, despite the full parking lot, we were seated and served quickly and efficiently. It's not fine dining, but it was excellent for the price and the location.

Part of my Portland experience

By IsleAnn |

while visiting Portland our host, a native Oregonian & long time Portland resident, took us to Sextant for lunch. We sat on the lovely deck with great view of river & planes coming & going from airport. The service was great, food was good but the most memorable thing about our lunch there was the fattest squirrel we'd ever seen coming on the deck looking for dropped fries!! Our server told us he comes every day & only wants the fries. It shows!! He actually waddles!! Got some great pictures & had such a fun lunch I would go there again & again.

Great Place For Breakfast

By Ti P |

Breakfast Only On Saturday & Sunday This place has a simple breakfast menu but GREAT food and when it's nice there's outside seating with a BEAUTIFUL view of the Columbia River

Fun place, great deck on the Columbia River.

By Journeyman644 |

This is fair priced fun place to eat and drinks are good. Selection is good of seafood dishes and daily specials. Fun casual down scale from next door neighbor Saltys. Return? Yes. Recommend? Yes.

great food

By carlmsmith |

have dinner here several times a year, great atmosphere and the food is laways the best. Went for dinner on St patricks day and will never go anywhere else, what a delicious dinner we all had very nice.

Columbia River is its best asset

By Collins M |

Just down the street from Saltys on Columbia, the ying and yang of costs. Sextant deck is most popular even in inclimant weather because of the river, boats, and flights rrom Portland airport. Good selection of beers and typical chips of a neighborhood bar. If parking lot is full of motorcycles pass on by and come back later because they maybe friendly they are loud. The bar inside is nothing exceptional.

Great place for a cold beer and sports

By globalreach |

I really like this bar sitting right on the Columbia River with beautiful views and lots of sports on TV. Great beer selection, pool tables and a friendly staff. They have a very large outdoor seating area right above the river that's wonderful on a warm day; just be sure you avoid all the smoke. As with a lot of bars in Oregon since the no-smoking law went in; you now have a hard time sitting outside without getting smoked out. Luckily this place is quite large so just find a clear spot with a nice breeze and enjoy.

Awesome venue šŸ˜Ž. Enjoyed watching all the boating activities. Wonderful bartender knows every drink we’ve asked for!

Dive bar with a great view

By dannotti |

Great bar right on the river. Has a dive bar feel with lots of bikers. Plenty of parking, good drinks, and food it pretty good. Nice place to relax on a sunny afternoon enjoying the river.

Local hangout fun

By T B |

Here on business but my spouse went fishing & we picked him up here. Location was perfect, busy but the bartender took good care if us. Prices were right on & if in Portland again we will stay to eat on the deck!

3 hour lunch

By Mike F |

I have to say we should have listened to people who left and warned us about super slow service. To get up and leave after you odered food is not good. It took us half an hour just to get a pitcher of beer. When we ordered, I ordered beer and our meals at the same time. People came in after us got their drinks before us as well as food. This is just my mother and I. I have to say my mother lost her patients and our food showed up as we were going to leave ourselves. Food was OK service was horrible... 3 hour lunch. Awesome view of the river.

I liked this bar a lot.

By john99801 |

We had driven by this bar a lot and were always intrigued by the whimsical messages on their reader board. It’s a great bar. Nice staff, GREAT view and well made reasonably priced drinks. I will definitely go back the next time I am in the area.

Good food, good service, affordable

By califive |

Really enjoyed Sextant Bar and Grill. Kat was our hostess and waitress and she was awesome. Food was served quick and hot. Had the deep fried prawn meal, wow a lot of food for the money! Atmosphere was fun. Would return again. M&D Smith

A little keno fun

By anilif |

We are always looking for new places to play keno and we stopped by here the other Sunday afternoon. If you don't mind country music it's not too bad. The staff was very nice the food was good. Great deck right on the river where you can watch the sailboats go by.

Excellent location and food

By Malcolm K |

I stumbled on this place by accident and it was worth it - the barman was helpful to suggest a good local IPA and the Clam Chowder was to died for. Sitting outside you are able to watch the boats across the river. Okay it is not fancy dining but it is worth a visit to eat or just sip on a beer.

Marine drive staple

By 949randyt |

The Sextant has been a fixture on the Columbia River since the airliners at PDX sported propellers and flying was an elegant experience. The are very few restaurants in Portland that are on the river which is surprising since we have two major rivers bisecting and bordering the city. The Sextant has a great view, especially in the summer from the outdoor deck. The staff is neighborhood friendly. The food is good, solid, tasty, pub food. They have a pretty good selection of local beers on draft and they serve it appropriately cold. Perfect for a summer day! So, if you are looking for a place to chill on a summer day in the sun with a view, or want to celebrate surviving your latest air trip in cattle class, this is a great place. The food is good, the staff are great, and the location superb.

Just don't bother

By Norman G |

There is a view of the river which is nice. But the service, and especially the management, is just terrible.

Ssshhhhhh... Nobody tell anyone else about this place!

By Kair S |

Mother's day brunch- right next to a very high end brunch for extremely high costs- SAME view.. great breakfast! Mom and I had a table by the window. Watched all the boats, wind surfers... and beautiful water outside. Had a fabulous waitress who would have bent over backwards to get us what we wanted. !! Great bloody Mary's and Mimosas. Awesome omelets. 1/3 or less of the place next door. ... I will be back for sure.

Great day on the river!

By halleckst |

Apparently busier thatn expected as there was only 'one' waitress for both inside and outside seating. Both were full. We had a large party of 10 and eventually we were taken care of. The gal did her best but there should have been staff avaialble on the holiday weekend. Never be in a hurry or very thirsty when you go there. but all turned out well....

Breakfast a disappointment

By AnneMarco |

We went to The Sextant for breakfast on Sunday morning. The place was not busy inside or out on the patio. We sat on the patio. The service was very slow, the food was cold and the orange juice tasted like it came out of a carton.

Angle Your Path to Sextant for Value

By Mark F |

Low key and authentic restaurant on the river serving great food at an affordable price. Our server Marlee was attentive and friendly. Sitting on the large patio, we enjoyed the river under a perfect, late summer sky, although there is a small covered section outside too. Inside the ambiance is more of a roadhouse tavern and bar. This is a place you meet real people. I recommend it.

More bar, than restaurant/pub/galley

By Tim98166 |

I had this recommended to me as a place for outdoor dining, with a view, and good food. It is kinda a dive place. Not totally "divey" but more local hangout for the locals. The food was "okay" but very salty, over cooked and really not anything to write home about. But the locals, or at least the regulars seem to like it. I will not be returning, as I think there are better options. Popular with the regulars/locals though! My dinner partner was not impressed either. All the food is pretty much fired, and fried to death it is.

Good food/great value

By Ineedsun21 |

My friend and I ate here today. We both had Reuben sandwiches and a Bloody Mary. The Reuben sandwiches were delicious. Moist, and not lacking for ingredients. The Bloody Mary was delicious as well. The Reuben came with potato chips for $8 and if you want to add fries they charge two dollars more. Still, very reasonable. It has a nice view of the Columbia River. I have also been there for their happy hour. Amazing deals!

Very Disappointing!

By Globetrecker281 |

The Sextant is a long time Portland institution in a great location on the south bank of the Columbia River near the Portland Airport. This was our second time there (the first experience was o.k. but not great) and we stopped by randomly for a leisurely Sunday lunch on a beautiful day hoping to sit outside on the deck and watch the boats go by in the River. The food was mediocre and the service was poor. The place was busy (but not full). We seated ourselves on the outdoor deck (you have to walk through the foul-smelling outside smoking area to get there) and waited about 20 minutes to make initial contact with our waitress. It seemed like the wait staff did not want to make eye contact with the customers as they busied themselves delivering earlier orders scurrying back to the kitchen without so much as a, "We're busy but we'll get to you as soon as we can." After our order was finally placed, our first round of drinks was delivered in a reasonable time but it took another 20 minutes for the food to arrive by which time we had finished our first round and had already placed an order for a second round. As I was finishing my first drink, I noticed what appeared to be unidentifiable organic matter (like heavy sediment in wine) swilling around in the bottom of what was left in my glass of beer. After calling the attention of a nearby waiter to this, he took it inside to show the bar tender. The bar tender quickly came by to apologize and offered a number of excuses all of which suggested poor quality control. She offered to comp one of our meals. By that time, we had already ordered a second round of drinks and the food arrived but only my second beer arrived, my wife's second drink never came. My bacon cheese burger was average (dry and otherwise unremarkable) and my fries were barely warm. Our waitress apologized several times but by that point the experience was beyond salvageable. My sense is that they were poorly managed and not adequately staffed up to handle the crowd. I doubt that we'll go back again, certainly not when they are busy.

Great view

By Dennis A |

We had lunch on the patio, the fish and chips were perfect, I should have only gotten two pieces, the back turkey melt was also very good. Sitting on the patio you have a great view of the river.

Good Old Portland with a View

By Tourist23609007927 |

I love this place! The staff is great, even if they need a little more help. This is not a place for foodies, snobs, or people in a hurry. But it's got a great view, inside and out, and it's one of the few old Portland places that are still around. If you want a fancy atmosphere, go to their neighboring restaurant. I prefer the Sextant.

Happy hour

By rgill3301 |

Took my in laws out for happy hour for their 38th anniversary, this is a very awesome place to go for happy hour it has a outside court w tables to view Columbia River, an watch sail boats a long with all other river transportation, food is well priced as well as beverages, its a bar so no children but would advise if you haven't been you should go, its very nice place Friday fish an chips is pretty good deal, i well recommend this to you, Ron

Great haunt

By Winngrip |

Been go in there for years, always a good meal and great service especially in the summer when the outside deck is open. I have never had a bad meal there or a less than great waitress and oh so friendly staff.

Unbelievalbe

By William P |

Unbelievable! We went to see the Christmas Boats, arrived early, my friends arrived first and spoke with a waitress who said that a window table is opening up and she would make sure that we got it. When the table came available, another customer, presumably a "regular" by the interaction between him and the hostess, was given our table by the hostess. A meeting commenced between the hostess and our waitress the result of which was not in our favor. A few minutes later, another window table opened up and again it was given to a group that came in behind us. This did not have anything to do with group size as the groups in question were either two or four and the tables were four seaters. When the Hostess got word that we were still waiting for a window table she waited until the two men were away from the table and came over to apologize/placate. My wife was having none of it. Consequently, we received absolutely no service from that point on. Even had to go up to the bar to pay the tab.

Great Deck drinks and meals

By 743bud |

Good selection of Beers and very good menu for almost everyone. Very river person friendly. Lots of different customers

Great food and view

By DHMonet |

We had a burger and fish and chips. Everything was excellent. Great prices too. Sit on the deck and enjoy the view.

Older bar that serves food

By travelgalAvon |

Recommended by the staff at the Marriott down the street. It's a run down looking bar that has a pool table, slot machines and TV's. Table service can be kinda slow but the servers were friendly. Food was okay, typical bar food with excellent french fries

Fun place

By Remi V |

Good buzz about the place, must have been happy hour crowd. Food was pretty good and service was good. Nothing to jump up and down about and nothing horrible.

Bad Sextant! 😔

By dkelbuko |

When we first walked in we wanted to turn around & walk back out, now wished we would have! Dirty, old outdated grungy bar atmosphere, menus were not wipped down & all condiments were sticky, had to ask waitress to wipe the table! Ordered the Halibut basket, it was frozen soggy crap that I refused to eat! It needs to be shut down & cleaned! Won't ever come back to this dirty place! What always worries me is if the seating area is this bad, what does the kitchen & food prep areas look like?! 😷 It is along the Columbia River but should be mowed down & build a nice restaraunt like it's neighbor Salty's!

Nice neighborhood bar

By Julie |

Stopped into this place to catch the CFP. I think I was the only Alabama fan in joint but the locals were friendly and made me feel welcomed. I will admit the Shrimp Cocktail was not what I was used to and I asked for some horseradish to doctor up the sauce. The BLT was fantastic! This was a great little place and the bartender was more than accommodating. I will go back if I am out this way again.

Great cheap breakfast and great fish and chips

By Melinda H |

Sextants has the best fish and chips I have ever had! Also has a great $5 breakfast on Saturday and Sunday. Looking forward to trying their happy hour.

Budget tight, needed food

By Thomas W |

Heavier than usual traffic prompted a detour. Hunger was a good reason to wait out the traffic delay, so we went exploring for a place to eat. In the shadows of Salty's we discovered this bar and gave it a try. First of all, it is a bar with food not a restaurant that serves drinks. Yes there is a difference. We were both pleasantly surprised by the menu selection and the quality of the food. I had an oyster dinner and baby girl had the prawn dinner. 2 full course dinners, 2 drinks, under $40, beat that. We're going to go there often as possible.

Relaxing find next to Portland Intl Airport

By ORcoastman |

Cool place if you have time before a catching a flight or just a nice place for a beer and snack. Located on the bank on the Columbia River it has an excellent view of the river from either an outdoor patio or interior through large picture windows. Tasty pub menu and nice selection of microbrews. It is adjacent the West end of the runway. Airplanes can be seen and heard from the patio but noise is dissipated at that point and was not annoying or distracting. Very pleasant. I've made several stops there and always enjoyed it. It is only about a mile or so from the actual terminal but about 5 or 6 miles by streets going around the end of the runway.

Good comfort food with a view

By John V |

The food is good, acceptable choice of beer on tap. Nice happy hours with good pictures of beer. Out terrace is comfortable. Great view of the river.

Great Place to Hangout

By Hreb S |

We were a bit hesitant when we first walked into the Sextant but after we sat down and looked around, we were pleased. They have a lengthy list of beers to choose from and a reasonable menu. Prices were also reasonable. We sat inside as the breeze was beginning to pick up but the seating on the deck would be great on a sunny day. Think you could spend a nice afternoon eating, drinking and enjoying the river views. We enjoyed ourselves and recommend the Sextant to anyone who doesn't need a whole lot of fluff!

Worst service!

By Tanya L |

The service sucks! We were there over 30 minutes on Sunday afternoon, 6/25, and the servers never brought us our drinks or took our order for food. They kept saying it was some other server’s table/problem. We were told our drinks got picked up by someone else. Pouring a light beer and making a greyhound must be a monumental task for the Sextant apparently. They can’t ask for a rush order to replace or correct and error. After that one server would come by and say it wasn’t her table, she transferred the table, but would check on our drinks. The other never acknowledged us, came by, asked if we needed anything, or provided the simplest assurance they would take care of us. At least 3-4 other couples came in after us, grabbed a table or bench, and were acknowledged and had their drinks within 5-7 minutes. When one server pointed out to the other server, we were still waiting, and it had been a while (which I think was very obvious) the other sever started up excuses as to why this was not her fault and why the service given to us, or lack thereof, was not her problem. She clearly had every intention to continue to provide incredibly poor/no service. At that point we got up and left. Found a lovely place in Vancouver that does provide service to ALL their customers, us included.

Take Me To The River

By RSNN |

Located at 4035 NE Marine Drive, Portland, OR 97211 on the Columbia River near Portland International Airport. The Sextant Bar & Galley has a bar section, a dining section, and an outdoor patio with a view of the Columbia River. The Bar section has a pool table and several video poker machines. The service is a bit slow but the servers are friendly and helpful. The outdoor patio is large and on a nice sunny day would be the place to sit and enjoy the weather and the scenery provided by the Columbia River.

After Work

By Laura P |

A great place for an afterwork gathering. Yummy munchies and reasonable drinks. Their outdoor deck overlooks the grand Columbia River.

Bubbles, BLT and Baileys

By shewholovestoeat |

The Sextant is one of the good ole places to visit. Right on the river, with a huge deck out back. Great place on a sunny day, as the table all have umbrellas. There is a covered section of the deck too. Grabbed an outside seat and a couple of sandwiches. The Reuben was really good, so was the BLT. This was our version of Sunday brunch--so of course there was bubbly for me. Baileys and coffee for the spouse. Cool thing on Sundays, a bottomless mimosa for $10.....wow. Heidi was delightful. Friendly and fun. Great view, good food, was could be wrong with that? enjoy!

Cheap atmoshpere on the cheap

By Monty E |

We decided to try this place for drinks before we headed to Salty's for dinner next door. The atmosphere is that of a run down locals hang out. They have a large deck that looks out over the river, but it was being used as the smoking patio which kept our group from checking it out. We regretted our decision and wished we would have just gone straight to Salty's for drinks before dinner.

Best chowder in the world. Bar none! Pardon the pun!!

By Nana and GG |

Great atmosphere and food. This is my favorite place in Portland. Their clam chowder in my opinion is the Best in the world. Any where I order chowder, The Sextant is my bar standard. No chowder has ever comes close. I am waiting for them to open now, just to order chowder to take back home to Salem. An absolute must.

great view and server...

By halleckst |

Brandi(y) is great server - and this is not even her fault but the past three we've been there in the apst two months food was bad. First bad: ordered french dip, there was nearly zero meat in it - it might as well have been that cheapo wobbly meat. My shrimp salad was fine but they forgot the bread. Second bad: we came back and ordered steamer clams, they were as cold as if they had just taken them out of the refer. we did get the bread warm at least which we kept while the heated up the clams (no butter, still) and kindly gave another seving of bread to go with that. third bad: (you'd thnk we'd give up but we love the atmoshpere/view -being going here since 1981) anyway we ordered calimari, it was as if it been rolled/dunked in bisquick - all 8 pcs- ($1 per piece) deep fried so much that they were floating in grease when served. too bad, so sad... next time we'll eat first before coming to enjoy the view...

Great place to meet friends and enjoy a beautiful view of the Columbia

By notnwor |

Great restaurant - have been going here for years and it is still one of the best on the river..casual but good selection and variety of dishes. Staff is very effecient and helpful. Great view of the river. Great value for meals.

Great place

By Winngrip |

Everything is good there and the staff, well the girls are just great. Thank you Catherine. Never had a bad meal there. In summer go out on the deck and just enjoy the river and sun.

Plenty of time to write a review while waiting to order And be served.....

By ResturantJake |

7 minutes to see a server, then 33 minutes for lunch to hit the table. Server said it was because of the large groups ahead of us. Half occupied at best. Kitchen capacity not to par with seating. Didn't ask to refill empty water glass during the whole hour. Oh, nice view from the hungry patio......disappointing visit this time. Have been here before, but may not again. An hour and a quarter for lunch on a Tuesday is a deal breaker. Still waiting for my check and glass is still empty

Old bikers' bar

By 625maryannm |

Old, depressing looking bar inside but very popular on Friday nights. Inside it's dark & old with a pool table & slot machines. Outside has a nice view of the Columbia River. It's a beer hangout so wines are limited to Sutters. It gets very loud, service is slow but food is ok, not great.

GREAT SUMMER PATIO EXPERIENCE

By MrRodgers2011 |

Arrived for a late lunch on a Sunday, the attached parking lot had a few spots left which is a real plus, because if you have to park on Marine Drive it is 40 mph traffic whizzing by you as you walk on the road shoulder to get to the entrance. The outside patio area is equal in size to the interior of the restaurant and is reached by descending a set of stairs. The patio is open with many tables and chairs plus beach umbrellas to provide shade on the hot days. The food here is consistently good and some items are very good. Fish and chips and hamburgers are all very good. You can see the menu on-line so I won't detail it here, other than to say the portions are ample to large. The wait staff is efficient and depending upon the number of guests ranges from very attentive to needing to wave someone over. The patio provides a wide view of a section of the Columbia River so boating activity can be easily seen as well as rather close up views of departing aircraft from PDX which must fly directly over the patio and intervals depending on the day of the week and time of day. Regardless, you will be treated to some impressive jet engine noise 3-4 times during your meal. Waving to the passengers on the plane is optional. If the patio is closed because of weather, the interior is just a very dark bar with tables and has nothing much to recommend it unless you like very dark spaces (gloomy). It would be a push to come here on a dark rainy Portland day just for the food.

Great view

By Terry J |

We found this to be a comfortable place to hang out and enjoy the view on our last night in Portland. It is a typical bar/grill in terms of appearance and menu but the location is excellent. The staff was very friendly and helpful and gave us plenty of time to order and enjoy. Recommend it for the atmosphere.

Great summertime restaurant

By Gary S |

This is a great place to nenjoy a warm summer lunch by the banks of the Columbia River. Good food, great view and reasonable prices. Can't be beat

Disappointing

By Winngrip |

This is one of my favorite hangouts and let me say that Lori and Brandi are terrific. The new bar tender was bad and her drinks were terrible. The new person cooking was worse. Our orders were short and our server eventually came to us and had Lori take over for her. I ordered ā€œtotsā€ got a small coffee cup plate instead of a basket and the wings were also short. Now we go in virtually every week so the difference was noticeable and not in a good way. Then we were overcharged from the kitchen. To say that this was a good experience is only because of Lori and Brandi. We will be back next Sunday and hopefully we will have our usual ā€œGreatā€ experience. Not what we had yesterday.

Fun time

By traceandy |

We were a large group arriving at different times and ordering at different times but Taz took great care of us with a smile. Everyone liked everything we ate. There were several halibut plates, oysters, a reuben, and several salads. A very laid back and comfortable place to eat and drink.

A chilly damp evening

By campiflo |

The manager of the RV Park where we were staying directed us here. It's sort of like a neighborhood hangout but it's not really in a neighborhood at all. It's out along the river not far from the airport. We, four of us, had some mussels; some fish-n-chips, a salad and a burger that were all great. But what really caught the attention of our taste buds was a wonderful mushroom soup. Our server told us that the chef had several other soups that were even better so we went back the following evening. The soup du jour that night was a garlicky-cheddar and it did live up to her boast. A third or even forth visit would have been in order but, alas, we had to move on towards Seattle. We’ll be sure to go back for more when we are in the area. Hopefully it will be a warm evening when we could be out on the deck enjoying the view and cool brews.

Good

Nice bar restaurant next to the Colombian river, we had nice weather and ate outside which was very nice. Service is friendly and quick. Hamburger was OK, but not super special

Worst Service Ever

By rlhaskin2 |

Our waitress never came to the table. Another waitress took pity on us and took our order. The kitchen staff delivered the food. I asked for a condiment and he never returned. Then we had to track someone down to pay our bill. I have NEVER written a bad review before. I’m understanding of a busy day but this was awful!!!

it sits right on the Columbia River and the food is always good and a great value. The staff is so attentive. For the last few times I have had Brandi and she goes above what you might expect and is a delight.

Nice place for drinks and dinner

Had dinner here a couple times. Once on Taco Tuesday and then on Friday. This place is a foodie find! Great Tacos! Hamburgers and Fish & Chips are also wonderful.

Evening at Sextant Bar & Galley

Good food, fair price, nice view of the Columbia river. Outdoor seating. Easy to find, free parking.

Food used to be plentiful and tasty... Now the only reason i go is for the cheap drinks

I met a friend for Happy hour here and she had the pulled pork quesadilla which barely had any meat on it. I had the fish tacos and the fish is super breaded and had mostly cabbage that was dry. Well drinks are only $2 though. She ordered the Reuben sandwich and it had way too much thousand island and hardly any meat. Next time I will go to Saltys next door.

Halibut Fish and Chips, cold beer and the view on a sunny day.

The burgers are really good too, but the go to deal is as the title says. On a sunny warm day, sitting outside at one of the many tables, watching the boats, sipping on an ice cold beer available on tap, bottle or bucket, chewing down on the excellent fish or tasty burger... Worthy of skipping out of work for. The pretty waitresses can be a little chatty, but for the single guys...nothing wrong with that.

Excellent view spoiled by poor service

Excellent view, food and atmosphere. Service was awful. Waited 1 hour for food. Water never arrived. Surly waitress was unhelpful. Disappointing.

Good view of the Columbia river.

Average pub food. Good size portions with friendly servers. Weather permitting, sitting on their patio provides a very pleasant view of the Columbia river.

Good for the Price.

If you want 5-star dining then head next door to Salty's. The Sextant is a local mainstay with affordable drinks and food. Well worth the price and the service is good. Fried oysters are very good.

Stopped in for lunch. Signature fish and chips is great. Halibut is hearty. Fries and cole slaw are greats accompaniments. Cole slaw is crunchy. I had fish tacos. Plenty of fish. Generous portion, garnished with pieces of mango. Tried a new cocktail, cinnamon and apple infused vodka, bourbon and orange bitters. It was wonderful. Great drink for a cool day, if you like an apple cider. Great bar with local flavor. Wonderful view of the river today. Service was terrific.

This little bar and grill offers a variety of food and alcohol, It is a nice place with a smaller out door space than I expected. Had an after dinner drink as I ate next door at Salty's. Good vibe and will be back.

Bad management worse service

My wife wanted to go to the Sextant on Mothers Day to sit in outside patio and enjoy our fabulous weather. I called on Monday to make sure the patio area was open for the season and was told it was. Just to make sure I called again that Sunday afternoon at 2PM and told they were fully staffed and the patio was open. We arrived at 6:15 and the patio was not only closed but half of the indoor tables were closed off. Asked the waitress and she said they closed it because they only had one waitress. Went to our favorite Mexican restaurant and they were packed with customers and operating with a full staff. What does it say when you can't get people to work for you. Sorry we won't be returning, too many other restaurants that want customers.
