Staff not polite and not good service. Food is not bad , prices are higher than normal, but it worth for one time if you miss Persian food.

Fresh food is a result of a small kitchen and limited storage room. This is the place to try all those savory Persian stews (khoresht) as well as their signature Tah-Chin dish of saffron rice cooked with yogurt (yes, yogurt!) and served with your choice of lamb or melting chicken pieces. Also try any of their appetizers served with fresh baked bread, but leave lots of room for the main course. (5 STARS+)

Is located in the heart of Persian Square in Westwood Los Angeles It serves all kinds of barbecue and Persian food very very clean nice environments friendly staff The ghorme sabzi and gheymeh were delicious Also the soltani Kabab and Bbq Chiken I visited almost all Persian restaurants in westwood This one is the best. Highly recommended.

I admit that I am not very familiar with Middle Eastern food or on the subtleties that specifically differentiate Iranian/Persian from other types, but thats what was so excellent about my experience at Shaherzad. The wait staff was very helpful when they saw that my group really didnt know what to order and even the group from the next table, who were actually from Iran, came over to show us the different items, how to eat them and what goes with what! I believe my friends and I were the only people in the whole place not speaking Farsi, a fact that speaks much about the food. As we enjoyed our fantastic food we talked and became friends with the people at the next table (one of whom I still talk to!) and they explained to us the few small ways in which the food differed from that which they had grown up with. The prices were not at all unreasonable and the servers were very attentive. It was a great experience and I truely feel like I learned something about the culture as well as had a great meal!

Great service and very consistent with the quality and taste. Not all the dishes in the menu are the best. There are some that are great and a few dishes that need some improvement. But great for the price.

I went to this place for late lunch. The staff were very nice and helpful. We decided to order split pea stew and Fesenjoon + Tah-dig. We loved our split-pea stew with rice, but the Fesenjoon was not the best I had had. Overall, I would recommend this place. The service & the quality of food were great.

The food was fresh and good, the staff was polite, but the restaurant didn't stand out among the many Persian places in LA. It was just not memorable and I would try someplace else to find one that is memorable.

The fresh bread and rice were fabulist! We also enjoyed the BBQ kebabs. I strongly recommend this fine Persian dining.

The freshly baked bread is out of this world. Love the food. Huge portions. Authentic Persian.

Wow! Excellent! Great way to rekindle memories and equally fun to share the experience with the next generation. The service is always great, so welcoming and gracious. The food! Incredible and yummy and filling and ....and....no words. If you are in the area then it is a must.

My wife and I along with some friends went for dinner at Shaherzad restaurant . Upon arrival the busboy brought us some fresh bread from the oven which was the best part of our meal. Our waiter was very crumby and never smiled through out our dinner. We ordered bademjon for Appetizer which was very salty and tasteless. We ordered the combination which was OK and we could only eat half of it. Our friend ordered the white fish with rice which they could not eat either. Our bill came to $77.00 for these awful dinners, Please save your money and find another place to have Persian food. I am sure you can find plenty of them in LA area.

A friend recommended Shamshiri for Kabab and Persian food, but I went here for lunch with my wife and daughter for lunch after reading a few reviews on another site that recommended Shahrsad. The service was friendly and attentive. We had the appetizer plate with eggplant, a chicken cutlet, a chicken salad and stuffed grape leaves. The eggplant was the star, the chicken salad a second. the others were underseasoned and just fair. I had the beef Koobideh which was underseasoned, but okay. My wife had the Chicken Tamchin which was dry. So overall disappointing.

good but shamshiri's better & just down the street

The variety of dishes is amazing. Much more than the typical kabobs and rice dishes. Our party included a vegetarian and he was delighted with the options. Try the soups and I had a wonderful rice dish with pistachios and rose water. Service was attentive. Will go back

We came 5 person order gorme sabzy gime barg and chicken barbecue all was fresh and delicious the service was very good over server was shahram and gity we had also tea it was leaves in pot Not tea bag was very good Thank you

Super nice and friendly staff. Delicious food, they make their own bread , very tasty. Highly recommended for BBQ and Mediterranean food.

I have been going there for a few years and the previous reviewer is wrong. The food and serVice are both very good and never had any issues with them.

The safron rice was delicious. The portions were a lot larger than I was expecting. Very authentic Persian food and it has a nice atmosphere.

Worse food I ever had beef kabab was very hard like a plastic , never go there again We order food to go and I had compani and we order koobideh kabab for everybody but unfortunately nobody liked it , also their attitude was very bad .

This is the first Iranian restaurant in Westwood los Angeles California is one of the best restaurants for barbecue and cooked Iranian dishes friendly staffs Super clean delicious food

This place has fantastic Persian food! Pretty much everything on the menu tastes great and the service is great too! A must try if you are in the West LA area.

As you enter the place you are welcomed by a warm stuff . All the products were fresh and the dishes had the warmth of home-made food. The chefs take great care in selecting the best quality ingredients. Nice place for family and birthday dinner,. Excellent food and atmosphere.

They have decent Persian food. Bread is fresh from oven . Fesenjoon is the best in all Persian restaurants around. Kabobs are also great.

It was worse restaurant that I went in my life.First, It was very expensive for the worst kabob, 25 dollars for cold and grass food. It was Kabob. It was cold , bad test, no cheese, no radish, no sabzy. I really became disappointed by this restaurant. Don't waste your money and your time to go there.

I have heard about this place, and now had a chance to visit. I'm the fan of Turkish drink Ayran and Iranian doogh and they had both and it was amazing. I had Albaloo polo - rice with cherries, acidulous yet delicious. They bring it with boiled (i guess) lamb or chicken. i will return for the food. But I didn't like the arrogant attitude of the personnel. That was discomforting.

I love this place.. their soltani shishi kabob is to die for..kaka

Oh wow, this restaurant is ridiculously good. We came here 3 times during our trip to LA. It was recommended by our tour guide Dexter from Tallawah. He even told us what to order. Everything was good. Chenje is a tender beef. There was a berry rice with chicken. Also, a tender and delicious bone in chicken and an eggplant stew. Also an eggplant appetizer and a yogurt with shallots. I couldn't get enough. And they were so nice. They gave us an interesting dessert on the house which we had with the persian black tea. You must try this place.

We joined another couple based on reviews. Great place. The food server was great, menu was almost a book, the baker kept brining bread and portions were very large. Oh, and the food was delicious. Rack of lamb kabob, grilled chicken and filet mignon were all wonderful. Try the traditinal ice cream with just a hint of rose water. It looked like everyone in the neighborhood was there for dinner. Hidden gem with monstly only street parking.

The first time I visited this restaurant was about 10 years ago--and I was amazed. I live in Miami so I kept dreaming about this place and when I'd be able to go back. Lo and behold! 10 years later I returned and it was still amazing! Their barley soup is SO authentic tasting! It reminds me of what my grandma used to make for me back in Iran. The ground beef kabob was cooked perfectly, and so was the chenjeh! They still make their bread fresh right there in the tandoor, so make sure you order some mast-o-khiar to go along with it. Amazing food, after so many years still! Will be back when I am in California again.

Heard about this place from a friend , but always for got to go, well went there last week, and what a find, the staff was very pleasant, helpful and quick. The pita bread was the first thing to come out, I was blown away by how fresh it was, I was not aware that they bake the pita right there in a special oven which is in the dining room. The place was simple , clean and semi modern, not overwhelming as some Persian restaurants I've been too, My guest and I ordered from the lunch special menu, Fresh salmon kabob and I had some Lamb rice layered thing , the name is besides me now, but both came with a salad or soup, The food was terrific. Will be here again.

Wow, this place is excellent. Portions are abundant, so think about sharing a few appetizers and a fewer entrees than diners. All the appetizers we tried were great: the Tahdig (crusty rice topped with a choice of stews) was perfect, chewy and crunchy, and we had ours with two stews, the fesanjan (really good but perhaps not the best you will have had) and ghaimeh. The sabzi khordan is a platter with feta, walnuts and an abundant variety of fresh herbs and scallions. The hummus and yogurt with spinach were fresh and tasty. Entrees were superb, and accompanied by excellent rice. The shirin polo, lamb kabobs served with rice mixed with orange peels, pistachios, almonds, saffron and rosewater, were succulent and not fatty. The kabobs of boneless white meat chicken were shockingly good, juicy and lemony and perfectly seasoned and cooked. The koobideh kabobs of ground beef were beautifully seasoned and cooked very well. The excellent freshly made bread is limitless and you can watch it being made, great for kids impatient for the food The restaurant is busy and fun, and it seemed like everyone was happy and well-treated, both obvious regulars and newcomers.

Went with my family to get some local Persian food. Ordered a soltani and a salmon kebob between us. Food was overall average and dry, not particularly tasty but not particularly bad either. It's an ok spot if you're craving Persian food and In the neighborhood.

My first time here. And, I'll definitely be back. The dining room was simple and (if this is even a possible combination) casually elegant. Service was impeccable--friendly, helpful, and gracious. We started with the Kasha Bademjan appetizer--roasted, spiced eggplant topped with onion and mint flavored yogurt. It was really a chunky dip that was terrific with the house-baked bread. For my entree I had the Sabri Polo with Lamb Shank. You can also choose to have this rice dish with chicken or seafood. The portions of rice and meat were more than generous--a large, heaping plate of saffron rice cooked with cilantro, parsley, green onions, and garlic, and in a separate plate two large, perfectly cooked, falling off the bone lamb shanks. Everything was very tasty and filling, and the final tab for the two of us was unbelievably low. Can't wait to return and try more of the intriguing menu.

My mom is married to a Persian so when they flew in from North Carolina, he was craving Persian cuisine. Plus it was Nowruz. We had a party of 12 on a Saturday night on Persian New Year's weekend. It was awesome. The bread was incredible. A man was just making it all night long in an oven in the back of the restaurant. They also served Persian potato salad as an appetizer which was good because it did not have a lot of mayo. I had the Barg Polo (kebab with chicken breast chunks) and it was fabulous. The meat was not dry and it was seasoned perfectly. I ordered the Zaresh rice (basmati rice with barberries) and salad as the side dish. The rice was plentiful and fluffy. The salad was good but the tzatziki-style dressing was too sweet for my palate. The dinner also had a huge grilled tomato which was perfect. Hubby ordered the Koobideh (ground beef on a skewer) and OMG.... this was OUTSTANDING. The staff was not overbearing and there when we needed them. The prices seemed reasonable. I would HIGHLY recommend this place. Some tips: 1- The parking can be intimidating. There is metered street parking HOWEVER... there is an alley behind the restaurant and there are three or four spaces right behind the restaurant. I snagged one of them. AWESOME. You can enter the restaurant from the back. 2- Get there before 6:30 PM. Persians are late night owls. They like to eat late. When we left around 8 PM, there were at least 20 people waiting in line to get in. 3- There is an awesome Persian ice cream store across the street called Saffron and Rose. 4- We were the only table of patrons speaking English. Everyone else was speaking Farsi. It was so fun because we felt like we were eating in another country. The other diners appreciated us coming into their favorite restaurant and enjoying their cuisine. A real lovely experience. When Persians flock to a Persian restaurant, you know the cuisine is very good. 5- The staff was very knowledgeable. Our waiter made great recommendations and we appreciated his suggestions. 6- I would give this place five stars but the salad dressing was not a winner for me. I would give this restaurant 4.5 stars. Healthy food, generous portions and a fun atmosphere. I love the cuisine~!

Ate here twice in a four day stay in the area. Delicious authentic dishes. Liked the several rice styles to choose from. Really enjoyed the feta and fresh herbs appetizer. Great lamb and Cornish Hen kabobs. Nice reasonably priced wine list. Very approachable and friendly service.

I live in OC, and each time I am in LA I love to order their Gormeh Sabzi They make the best in USA Their Kabab Barg also taste great I hope you enjoy it

Had a light dinner for my wife and myself that included Bademjan Entree (eggplant in a tomato sauce). Thought the eggplant was bit on the mushy side, but the sauce was decent. You can order a lamb shank with the eggplant for $2.00 (real bargain and good). Also Rice Baghali that was good. All in all, wasn't overly impressed, but the price was reasonable (just $30) for the two of us. However most couples wouldn't eat as little as we did. The flat bread was good, as was the service and atmosphere.

Incredible Persian food, the best in Los Angeles. You start out with Lavash from the Tanour and then tou must try the Tahdig with Fesenjan. For the main course I suggest Chenjeh Soltani which is a combination of Chenjeh Shish Kabob and Koobideh. You will be in heaven. My wife likes the Fesenjan, which is sautéed ground walnuts in a pomegranate sauce, and served with chicken. Enjoy.

It was hard deciding what to order with so many options. Far more than I have previously seen at Persian restaurants (though maybe I don't go to enough Persian restaurants). In addition to the stews and kabobs, there was grilled fish and there were rice dishes with almost a dozen kinds of rice. I went for stew with plain rice (but very curious about the rice with orange, pistachios, almonds, and rosewater). I visited alone but I was given enough food for more than two. It was tasty and filling, and I plan to go back.

I know Persian food really well, so I can say you must try fesenjoon for sure is excellent. Chicken kabob is good. Barg (filet ) is ok. Salad is good. Rice is good. Bread is fresh and made in house.

Not sure how you rate a restaurant when it’s the first time experiencing a given cuisine. So, in this area of LA, there are many Persian restaurants from which to choose. I didn’t do any homework, just walked in cold to the first lunch special billboard that had a decent sized number of guests, and I went in. I explained that I was a novice, and the waiter kindly suggested what he thought was the best example of the cuisine on the menu — boneless chicken kebabs. Served with rice and a roasted tomato, these pieces were perfectly grilled, fresh and tender...nice flavor with a citrus taste. Simple but good. Started with a Shirazi salad (Persian cucumbers, tomatoes, cilantro), very refreshing, and the native bread (whose name I asked but currently escapes me) was made fresh, easy to see it happening in the kitchen, and served warm. A type of pita flavored flatbread w/o any pocket. Butter was served alongside, but when I inquired whether this was an authentic aspect of the cuisine, I was told, as I smiled at the reply, that this condiment was adapted to the LA palate. Looked like a lot of native Iranians enjoying the food here. Was good, not spectacular, but worth investigating again. Good service, pleasant atmosphere, clean and comfortable, all for <$18 for lunch (w/o tip) for one of the featured lunch specials (instead of a salad, could also choose soup).

We have eaten in this restaurant many times. Never a disappointment. We eat this friends from the middle east who feel the food is quite authentic. the decor is simple with fresh flowers on the table and a middle eastern oven where they continuously make fresh bread. the service is good. A great find.

There is really nothing to say here other than the food was blasé. Our server was nice but the service was slow especially since the restaurant was practically empty....

I went here 3 years ago with my husband. The food was great. We went there today, and the food was very bad. The food had no flavor. All we taste was onion. We ordered Sultani kabab dish, and chicken with bone. It was not good at all.

We are not Persian, but we adore Persian food. I was introduced to many such restaurants in Los Angeles and none hold a candle as far as I am concerned. The Tahdig (crispy buttery rice), Fesenjan which is a mind blowing sauce, ordered seperately, of walnuts and pomegranate (put on the Tahdig and the chicken), Chicken and beef Koobideh (ground chicken or beef), Boneless chicken Kabobs, and their flat bread (also try specialities with tart cherries, or orange peel-saffron-almonds, etc) are simply delicious. The restaurant was simply renovated a few months ago and remains lovely and casual. Many patrons are Persian from the Little Persia area, and it can be a lively place. I highly recommend it.

We tried beef koobideh and shirin polo. Quality wasn't good. Small portion and expensive. May 5 2011

The restaurant is clean and the service is excellent. Some dishes are enough for two people, such as kebab with rice and shabzi sauce.

Good Persian food but a bit on the expensive side. Mostly Persians dine there so it must be good!! Really good chicken breast grilled to perfection. Lunch is good but more expensive than neighboring Persian restaurants.

We went there , first of all no one noticed we are there , we sat after 10 min boss boy give us the menus , food came , rice was over cooked . And kabob was chewy , looks like old meat. Don't go there employee,s are very rud . Never again

I really really like this place and return to it often. It is a medium size restaurant, that looks bigger than it is because of a large mirror on a wall. the decor is nothing special but overall the atmosphere is very pleasant. it is usually full or next to full, so often I have to wait a little bit. it has no parking and parking is not very easy in the street. it seems definitely popular with the Iranian community. it is not noisy, even if it occasionally attracts large family gatherings, I had no problems with conversations. I always had excellent service, everybody is very polite and friendly. I have never been disappointed by the great quality of the food: it never has too much spices or too strong flavor, it is always incredibly balanced. I really like many of the appetizers. there is a combination of appetizers (around $12, I think) (can't remember whether it is #1 or #2, the one with the grape leaves) that is almost a dinner by itself and that I strongly recommend: the eggplants with caramelized onions on top are just amazing, especially when you eat them with the freshly backed bread that they continuosly bring to your table (not to mention the fresh, raw white onions). but my favorite dish is the lamb chops (around $22). I tried lamb chops at several other persian restaurants but I keep coming back here, for their flavor and juicy meat. I order them with one of the special rices they have (the one with pistachios and orange peel), that make it a perfect combination. the portions are large, I usually do not manage to finish all the rice and all the vegetables (grilled tomatoes and onions and peppers). it is not particularly cheap, but I think it is really worth it, I highly recommend it.

Nice atmosphere, excellent cooking. Tadig with Gaihmeh excellent appetizer. Good variety of rice. Popular with the Persian crowd.

Went here at a friend's recommendation. Unfortunately, I do not eat meat; and the seafood options were limited. Every dish seemed to have meat mixed into them (even most of the soups). I am not a huge fan of tomato products, so that really limited my choices. The service was very attentive. Wish there were more options for vegetarians and those of us who eat fish...

The food was not that good at all. And I give the 2 star to the service and their freshly made hot bread. I wish they make their kabob with better quality both me and my husband had upset stomach after eating there.

We took a couple of friends who were not that familiar with Persian food for dinner. The evening was very pleasant. The service was very good, in fact we had two people helping us, a young man and a young woman. We started off with the mixed appetizer plate along with Tadig (the well cooked rice that is left over in the pot after cooking). We also sampled the Torshi which are pickled vegetables marinated for three months in a brine of wine vinegar, herbs and spices. For our main courses we sampled the following: Chicken Kabob, Chicken Barg, Chicken Koobideh and Salmon Kabob. The meats were nicely seasoned and very tender and juicy. All of the entree's are served with rice so we tried the following: Cherry Rice, Orange Peel Rice and Rice with Dill and Lima Beans.....all were tasty. For desert we had a couple of different types of Persian ice cream. One with Rose Water on with Pistachios. The ice cream come from the Mashti Malone’s ice cream factory and store located not to far away in Hollywood. A very nice time, a good meal and a bit of an adventure too...give it a try!!

My wife and I enjoyed a wonderful meal here. There weren't too many people in the restaurant and the host suggested we sit away from a family that had a crying child. The food was tasty and the service was prompt.

I have been to few Persian restaurants in the Middle East, this one is probably in my top five ever. Original Persian food, not spicy too much, fair prices, fairly large sized dishes. Hot eggplants salad is simply divine. Enjoyment is guaranteed.

Shaherzad restaurant is undoubtedly the best Persian dishes one can get. Every dish is at its best possible taste and of high quality. I travel to LA few times a year, and each time I make going to Shaherzad restaurant a top priority. Everything is absolutely delicious. In fact Shaherzad restaurant offers several dishes that no other Persian restaurants offer, like their Tahchin, which is my favorite.

We're not experts in Iranian food but we thoroughly enjoyed this place. The waiter was knowledgeable and listening to his recommendations paid off. Definately recommended - we will be back. The wine list was outstanding for such a small place - always a good sign.

A friend wanted to introduce me to Persian cuisine, and I absolutely LOVED it. I recommend this place to anyone and everyone!! Great food, great prices, great atmosphere!

if you want to know how important your opinion as a customer is in this place, just complain about somthing you dont like and you will find out what I mean. too bad pay for it and get lost that is their logo.

I always eat at this place when I am in Los Angeles. The food is very good and they bring you hot fresh baked bread (Lavash) which you can savor with feta cheese and green vegetables.

Excellent food and service, large plates, very friendly stuff, super clean . For the large size of plat is very cheap we will return,
Amazing Persian Food
If your in the mood of having Persian why don't you try Shaherzad. The food was amazing. If your planning a visit for this restaurant why don't you go for their grills. I ordered the chicken koobideh it was delicious and for starters go for salads and sauces such as hummus. The sauces will add flavour to the bread given. It will enhance the taste of that particular starter. In addition, for drinks I suggest you go for the dough. It's such a nice drink to have. Trust me a visit to this restaurant will not disappoint you.
