Delicious Philly Cheesesteak

By Jo |

Delicious and very filling Philly cheese steak. I had the classic and my husband added some heat with added chillies. We ordered fries too which were very good quality but we were so full! I would highly recommend this casual restaurant and take-away.

Best cheesesteak Eva!

By George K |

Absolutely best cheesesteak I’ve ever had!! Such great flavor in the meat (I ordered the Waygu) and the combination of flavors exceptional.

Got me someone else's order. Tiny portion

By _tomnguyen001 |

They got me someone else order! I ordered their signature sandwich - the Philly Special and they ended up giving me someone else's order. The steak was just OK. Literally no onion. Cooper sharp is the same as any other places in town. TINY portion... About 7 inch long... Don't understand why it is rated so highly. DO BETTER with order!

The food is so good it made me want to live here

By Midnight Storm |

We stayed in Philidelphia for a couple of days and as it was our first time here, we ofcourse had to try a cheesesteak. This place was literally right round the corner from our hotel (Sheraton) and omg, it was so good we ate here everyday of our stay. We were visiting a few different cities around the States and Shays Steaks was the best food we had during our whole stay. I've never tasted food like it before. It was Delicious!!! Staff are super friendly too. I think we had met the owner while we were there and he was so friendly and even gave us a free bag of chips which was so so kind. I wish I knew the girls name at the counter, she was so friendly and greeted us on our 2nd visit that she had remembered us from the day before! If we're ever back in Philidelphia again, we know where our first stop is!

INSANELY GOOD

By RCostaFL |

The BEST cheesesteak in town. This was found by accident after our favorite spot closed early. The Classic was great and the Philly Special was a smidge better. Pure insanity!

An amazing Philly cheesesteak

Just The Two Of Us (me and my cheese steak)

By Josh G |

When I go out for food I expect a fine time with good grub and life, coming to Shay’s Steaks my socks were completely blown off. I came with a group of 18 and they were more than happy to welcome us and help us have a good time. I have heard of the cheese steak like a myth and when I tried it I felt like a legend. When I bit into the sandwich I felt the presence of God. My friends and I had a great time listening to ‘Just The Two Of Us’ on our choice from the record player at the back. I would give this establishment 6 stars but because I have not tried their (and don’t know if they do) onion rings I will be giving them 5 stars, which is full marks anyway. Sadly I may not be able to return as we travelled far to get there, but I will always remember my first Philly cheese steak.

Deliciously surprised

When you want a cheesesteak

By Michael S |

The owner talks a big game about how great their cheesesteaks are. If you try one, you'll find out they back up the big talk.

Small and overpriced

By Daryl C |

Steak was decent, Small (7 inch) 20 BUCKS. The steak was pretty decent just not worth 20 bucks. Maybe if it was a 12 inch I would feel different.

Best cheesteak I’ve ever eaten!

Don’t order a regular steak.

By Brad B |

Such a shame that there was so much gristle in this steak. Over $20 for a small cheesesteak. Roll- good. Cheese- good. Fried onions- not too many and not too large. Fries- delicious. Wait time- not too long on a weekend. Meat- horrible. I got the “regular” cheese steaks. I picked all of the hard pieces out of my half that I started and it was a good part of the steak (shown). 3 of them and fries was $70 and what a disappointment. I will never order from here again. If you’re rich, you can try the Waygu and maybe you will have a better outcome.

Best Cheese Steak EVER!!

By Pam C |

I had the most amazing Wagu beef cheese steak! No ketchup needed. The flavor of the beef and seasonings were perfection! My partner had a chicken cheese steak. He puts ketchup on everything and also pushed the ketchup to the side!! Added bonus- all of the staff were personable and friendly, and Scott, the owner, made time to talk with us about the restaurant. You could feel the passion for this establishment and the people as he talked. His energy has helped to make this a wonderful place to visit. And he happens to make the best cheese steaks too!! We will definitely be back!

Holey moley!

By PelleasPhiladelphia |

I am serious about my cheesesteaks and so came here as a skeptic. I’ve never had a high-level cheesesteak that was worth the price. I was proven very wrong. This has immediately become a top-3 steak for me. I can’t wait to go back and try all their steak varieties. It’s expensive (though all good steak places in Philly have gotten expensive) but so worth it! It’s huge too - my wife and I shared one. It’s def a riff on the classic using high end meats but still very faithful to the Philly tradition.

Shay's for Cheesesteaks!

By Jeff H |

If there's another cheesesteak better than Shay's in Philadelphia, I'd love to go there. Fantastic food and even better service. The owners are great and engaging with the customers making sure you feel appreciated. My wife had the Classic and I had the Philly Special- both were fantastic! can't recommend this place more.

New favorite cheesesteak shop in Philly

By valleygirl3092 |

My new favorite for Philly Cheesesteaks! Great flavor & good portion of steak & cheese & good seeded roll. Highly recommend the seasoned fries too!

Awesome Steak Sandwich

By Joshua P |

Great experience. The owner was in the shop throwing bags of chips to people and checking to make sure everything was right. It was a Sunday and this was happening. Great job to the boss for making sure his employees had what they need, he grabbed them some Gatorade from the fridge, and that his customers were happy and having a fun time. Food was excellent, we tried a regular style sandwich, I had a NY strip and the wife had the Wagyu one. Each was excellent. That started with awesome and just went up from there. Loved the bread by the way, it held up well to the steak and toppings. They were full and messy but you definitely get your $ worth here. A++ will be back next time I am in Philly

Just a gorgeous sandwich, no filter needed

This place was my #1 spot I was looking forward to in Philly. I had read that it was up and coming but highly recommended. However, a hidden gem, it is not. The word is out (good for them) and the place was bopping. I will start with the negative. My biggest annoyance was....next to the ordering kiosks, they have menus. The prices on the ordering kiosks were higher than the physical menu. As both a consumer and someone in the service industry, it has always been my belief and practice that you honor the prices that are in writing, the prices ON the menu. So, I will be honest. That bugged me. The next is more of a neutral. Not a positive or a negative. I ordered a chicken cheesesteak. The chicken itself was in chunks, and not quite the texture that I had seen in pictures. My sandwich was more solid chicken. The photos I had seen showed partially chunky, but also partially shredded or broken down chicken. I feel like that texture lends itself more closely to the softer texture of a cheesesteak. My sandwich was a little bit more like a grilled chicken sub than a cheesesteak. If this makes any sense. So....all that said. The sandwich itself was very, very good. And, just beautiful. I am not sure I have ever seen such a beautiful sandwich. I could have used a tiny bit more cheese, but as far as viscosity goes, and the meltiness of the cheese and how it incorporated throughout the sandwich- it was just about perfect. This was my favorite cheesesteak in Philadelphia, and if I were to go back to any of the places I went, it would be this one. Service was great, and the folks were friendly.

Best Philly Cheesesteak!

By Tyronnia B. |

My husband and I were in town for my second triathlon: Women’s Philly Tri. Having had an awesome race, I told him I wanted cheesesteaks for dinner. We checked reviews for Pat’s and Geno’s and they weren’t as I’d hoped. Then we stumbled on Shay’s and checked out those reviews. Needless to say, we went to Shay’s. They did NOT disappoint!! Meaty, juicy, full of flavor. And the fries, loved them as well. We finished it all… barely. But Shay’s Steaks is definitely the place to go!

Way better-than-average cheesesteak in Center City.

By jan_klincewicz |

I had the second-best cheesesteak of my life. In the interest of full disclosure, the BEST came with foie gras on a house-made roll and a half bottle of champagne and set me back $140. So, let's be a little fair here. The Wagyu steak at Shay's is every bit life-altering. Served medium-rare (as requested) it was as rich as biting into a hunk of fine European butter. It's the kind of sandwich you wish would never end. But we had to make room for the New York strip version (which we had with Cooper Sharp. We chose American for the Wagyu as it could have overpowered the delicate flavour and mouthfeel of the precious beef.) SPG seasoned both and the fried onions were sweet and perfectly executed. These were served on Liscio's seeded rolls, obviously fresh, as we saw the delivery walk in the door. Personally, I could kill to taste one of these on a Sarcone's or Carangi, but the Liscio's actually let the beef be the star of the show. Of course, ingredients are only part of the complex cheesesteak equation. As you'll discover in a handful of the GOAT contenders (like John's Roast Pork) the attention to detail that comes with passion completes the calculation. When every steak is made for YOU (try asking for medium-rare at D'Allesandro's sometime) it's YOUR steak. We were lucky to get there before crowds showed up (from as far as Paris.) We got our lunch in under 10 minutes (including a "before" presentation of the insanely marbled freshly sliced beef that we'd chosen. It was almost a Morton's experience. It took quite a bit of convincing to get my friend to leave without tasting the rib version. But the size of these steaks was perfect given the richness of the Wagyu in particular, as we found on the drive home. It gives us a reason to return.

Almost perfect Philadelphia Cheese steak. Had great taste with a bun that missed the mark.

By K_Traveler |

A satisfying true Philadelphia cheese steak sandwich. Located downtown Philadelphia around the corner from the Sheraton Hotel. They recommend a classic Philly so that’s what I went with. The bun seemed like an interesting choice but it was better than it looked. The meet and cheese was just about perfect. Had with a bag of chips.

The best cheesesteak I have had in quite awhile.....the quality of the meat was 100% and the Liscio's roll was perfect!!

By rpbasarab |

Heard about Shay's and Judge DiClaudio and had to go at first Philly visit......so glad we did! Had the prime rib with homemade whiz and the steak was awesome! Is it pricy? Yes, but it WELL worth the cost.....I would recommend to anyone.....try it! Also had a great explanation of the shop by the Judge and got a pic with him.....what a great guy! Can't wait to go back again!!!

Experience Excellence!

By valerie0wens |

My experience at Shay’s Steaks was delightful. I was warmly greeted by staff, and I received impeccable take-out service. The staff member Varley was attentive, knowledgeable and very helpful to me with my order. This place has a wonderful ambiance. The entire staff was pleasant and appeared to be happy doing their various jobs. Meeting the owner Scott DiClaudio was a highlight of my day. He went above and beyond to share with me his culinary dish of choice adding an extra incredible eating pleasure to my menu. I ordered the American Wagyu and the Philly Cheesesteak sandwiches. Their tastes, though different, were sensational and full of flavors combined superbly.

A perfect meal

Delicious cheesesteaks!

By Fabien |

I ordered a Waygu cheesesteak, which was pricey but definitely worth it! I loved the long hot peppers I got with it as well. The fries were soft and forgettable, though.

Health Code Violation § 6-301 F (1 & 2)

By Brittany Nicholas |

The sandwich was pretty good, their fryer was inoperable so we couldn’t order fries but they still showed as an option on the kiosk. My coworker had to use the restroom and was informed by the cashier she’d "have to go to the hotel next door or the pizza store down the street." After paying over $70 for a few sandwiches you'd think you’d be able to use the restroom. Not to mention not having an operable bathroom for customers is a Health Code Violation § 6-301 F (1 & 2)... Not a good visit...

Wow A must on any visit
