Very good pizza, empanadas and the atmosphere is great inside during winter. They have done a good job during COVID and their outdoor space is one of the nicer in Williamsburg.

Been coming here for over 3 years as LOVE the empanadas and, usually, great service at the bar. Today however, the bar manager (as she informed us) was clearly in a foul mood and took it out on her staff and us. So disappointing...

We looked in and decided at once that SP was a great choice for lunch. Communal table though with 5 of us there wasn't much room for communing - but a bit too close to the door and opened and closed repeatedly exposing one side of the table to cold blasts of air. Four of us ordered pizza and one ordered a hamburger - ordered, that is, after a long long wait to get the attention of our server. The pizza were good if not exceptional; the hamburger - ordered medium - was blood red - B was okay with it but we were late for our next 'thing' so no time to recook it - the shoestring potatoes were good, however. And one shout out for the bus boy - he was actually the most - only - helpful member of the staff; we all appreciated him. No, I wouldn't go back. I might suggest you go at happy hour time - the bar area was very large and it could be lots of fun. But don't expect too much, better to be happily surprised if it turns out to be a happening joint.

I must admit I loved it here. It was only a couple of blocks from our hotel and, since the food and drink was somewhat cheaper here, it became our go-to bar. The wonderful thing for me here is the relaxed ambiance and the design of the place (although I must say that the food and drink is pretty good too). As an interior design layman, I would describe the design of this place as 'trapper cabin rustic'. Is there even such a thing? If there is, it’s certainly here. Lots of brown wood and bric a brac. Lighting made from (one hopes, fake) deer horns and animal heads and snow shoes. It was really delightful. It’s the kind of bar cum pizza restaurant that could only really ever be in America. Anywhere else and one might feel it was a little over the top. But somehow In Williamsburg, it seemed to make sense. And the pizzas and the burgers here are very good. Don’t even get me started on those cocktails.

Please go. Fantastic atmosphere inside and out. Seething out allows you to bring your dog :) inside is so well put together and the fog is awesome. Do the pizza to start and share . The huevos rancheros m steak and eggs and all the salads were wonderful.

Cozy inside, with a very nice COVID hut in front. The pizza was excellent, but don’t overlook the other food, such as the empanadas.

My girlfriend wanted to go somewhere else at first but she was happy we stayed. We started out with a mimosa for her and prosecco for me. Delicious. I also had the mushroom and spinach empanada.... expensive and small but very tasty. One of the best empanadas I've had and I live in a latino and black community. The dinner was very good also... my girlfriend devoured her skirt steak with grilled veggies... while I had a margherita pizza that was very good also. We ended dinner with some of the best coffee ever. I'm a real coffee drinker... this stuff was great!! I wish I had one before and after dinner. WHENEVER I'M IN BROOKLYN I WILL STOP BY FOR COFFEE.

Food, music, decoration, fireplace, simply everything in that place was great. Only down side to it was the waitress that didn't come around as often as we would like.

Good food and great atmosphere, but we got seated at a couch for our reservation instead of a normal table due to a wedding party being booked in the main dining room. They probably should have just not taken reservations that night. Great vibe, food, and good cocktails though.

I liked the general atmosphere sitting here having a beer and some quick food it s a pity that it s not so nice sitting outside on the street with all the traffic passing by, so i recommend a table just inside... food was ok, prices correct, service good

Popped in for lunch with wife and daughter. The bar/ restaurant is quite trendy with an industrial feel to the decor. Long wooden tables in the eating area and an open fire in the bar. Welcomed by friendly staff and we quickly ordered pizza. Perfect size for lunch, delivered freshly baked and very tasty. Throughout, the staff were friendly, courteous and polite. Very enjoyable.

We went to eat their famous empanadas and loved them: humita and beef have generous fillings. The “entraña” (skirt stake” was delicious and so were the fries that accompany the meat. It’s just that...portions could be a bit larger. At $6 per empanada I was expecting to eat one and be filled (I had two). The portion of skirt steak was small. Portions are not enough to share anything, and...at $24 for the skirt stake, they could give you a bit more meat! Will we go back? Probably, as scene/people watching is excellent. We got to say hi to Jon Voight, who lives near by. Wish I could give this place 5 stars...but the smallish portions prevent me from doing this. Having said this: ambiance and decor are superb, and so is the service!

We were attending events in Brooklyn and decided to take our (adult) kids to one of their hangouts, Shelter, up by McCarren Park area. The food is basic "tavern" with a few twists (really good empanadas and pizzas!) and very well done in their wood fired ovens. Packed on Saturday night, ambiance loud, good music (got turned up too high a few times that all around complained), fun lodge-in-the-mountains decor. Perfect for a no frills good dinner and drinks!

Amazing pizza (even chocolate pizza for dessert!) great choice of cocktails and spirits. The interior looks amazing. Maybe Scandinavian?? Not sure but looks great. Friendly staff in great neighbourhood of Brooklyn.

Had a selection of Empanadas and kids had pizza. ALL happy! Teenage daughter said “you know it’s good pizza when there isn’t a grease slick on top!”. I had never had Empanadas before and loved all the different flavors! Atmosphere was stunning too-sat by fire in cold day! Good vibes all around!

We stopped for well-made Sunday drinks and empanadas, which were really good, fresh-baked in their open ovens. I wish we had been able to stay for some other edibles, because the dishes looked fresh and tasty. A really nice open atmosphere inside. Well-designed and quirky. On this Sunday, there was live jazz as well. Nice.

Excellent wood burning oven pizza! I had the mushrooms with 2 eggs sunnyside up - might sound weird to some but it was really good. The crust was one of the best I've had. My daughter had 3 empanadas, also from the wood oven, and deemed them a two thumbs up - we make empanadas at home so it was a tough test to pass. My wife thought her eggs benedict were ok - she like the addition of avacado to the traditional prep. We sat outside as it was the first really nice day after a unforgiving winter. Unfortunately, the seats outside are of the folding metal chair variety and rather uncomfortable. Inside looked very attractive in a rustic sort of way but on the first sunny 65 degree day we put up with the uncomfortable seats. Service was a bit indifferent but sufficient.

Brunch in williamsburg brooklyn?? Just Go... Why? because it is just the best place, because it is beautiful inside and from outside you just cannot imagine there is this place inside. Because the staff is amazing and cool. Because they do Pizza, Chukchuka, Feuilletés aux champignons, because the beer is good and well served. Also because the deco is AMAZING and there is good music. so go to Shelter for a Brunch or just for a drink... PS they do not forget our Vegan friends...

every detail in the Shlter is at the right place. We were simply amazade. The food came very quickly while we were taking picture with the wonderful lamps and the vintage bike they had. The meals were very tasty, trendy stuff you will not find in many places.

Very nice place good food and an excellent playlist We had a very good time in family in the lounge area Eggs Benedict and omelette where very good as well as the pizza Will come back shortly !

We found that restaurant strolling around in Williamsburg looking for a restaurant I found 2 years ago. Since that didn't worked out we got in there. The service was excellent (but as a European that's always the case in the us). The food was okay. Small menue and as written manly local ingredients. I head the ribs which were excellent my campaign hat the pasta which was tasty but way to oily. But the atmosphere was really great especially since it was an evening with live music ;).

Originally only stopped here to get outta the rain but ended up sharing a couple of pizzas which were pretty nice. Would come here again.

Seeing as Shelter was next door to our Airbnb, we decided to give it a go. Judging by the fact that we were lucky to get in, it's worth making a reservation in advance. We ended up sharing a table with another party - generally how things are done in this neck of the woods, so no complaints. I do, however, prefer to be sat solely with my party! The pizza that I ate was tasty, but there are better in the area. The service was attentive, without being over the top, which was a big plus. The best thing about the restaurant is the surroundings, decor and atmosphere. The theming and a much welcomed smell of barbecue/wood fire is always a winner to me. If you struggle with sight when the light levels are low, remember your spectacles. It's dimly lit, so be prepared! Overall a very pleasant experience, but there will be other places that I rush back to before returning here.

We dropped by for a specialty drink - a Jalapeño Old Fashioned. And while the bartender didn't really do this with any frequency, he made us one hell of a drink. The spot was a little smoky because of a fire in the fireplace, but it did make for some pretty lighting.

We went here while visiting friends in Brooklyn. It was very rustic, and they said we would be reminded of Texas(that's where we had met these friends). It is one of their favorite hang-outs. It had great pizzas and an easy atmosphere, very comfy...

Visited again for dinner. The standard has been maintained. Quick, attentive service. Large tasty pizza with thoughtful additions. Salad and vegetables gave the dinner more depth and imagination. The weather was cool for our visit, so I would recommend staying away from the downstairs sitting area near the exterior wall - too draughty especially if the wood stove is unlit.

We seem to have arrived at the same time as a lot of other people. We were seated at a couch rather than a table with was a little awkward. The staff was all very nice but seemed to be quite overwhelmed, service was slow. The door was left open so either the air conditioning was escaping or they didn't have the temperature set low enough for the heat of the day. Adult son ordered a hamburger, husband a flat bread and I ordered the Marguerita Pizza. I definitely chose best. Décor is eclectic.

Looking for a good sit down casual family pizza dinner, Shelter is very promising. We had reservation for a group off 12 with my family. The ambiance was casual and warm candlelight. Our order of healthy salad appetizers came promptly. Nothing special but was good. We had several orders of pizzas--Brussels sprouts with bacon (the best), prosciutto with arugula, margherita, burrata and prosciutto, satgione (veggie), fugue zsa with olives, onion, and ham. These pizzas were brick oven cooked (see pics) so they are evenly crispy and tasty. We ordered 2 bottles of white wine and some beers. The service was great. Manager Giovani threw in a couple of desserts on the house. Our bill came to over $400, so this place is not cheap but quite reasonable.

Williamsburg Brooklyn has many bar-like restaurants and Shelter is one of them. Cavernous, cold, uncomfortable tables and chairs appear to be the new normal. The service was uneven, which I consider a compliment since it started off badly and improved towards the end. I am not sure how long it takes to get beverages like soda and ice tea from the bar but in Shelter it appears to take about 25 minutes. But once we told them we were in a time crunch, we received much faster service which we greatly appreciated. It was because of this improved service that I gave my review three stars instead of two. We had the pizza which was very expensive for what we received which was perhaps a 12 inch size pie for $15. The iced tea, as it were, was so weak that it resembled beige water and tasted like it was strained through a coffee filter. Notably terrible. My dining companion's burger was so rare it streamed blood. Some people like it that way I suppose.

My friends and I found this place by accident one night as we were heading to a nearby concert. The exterior of the building appears to be rough metal and it just looks . . .cool . . .for lack of a better word. Very artsy. The inside of the restaurant is broken into two sections, the small eating area and then the much larger bar/drinking area. I must say that the people who come only for drinks, definitely have it better in terms of decor. There is a lot of wood everywhere throughout the interior and if memory serves, I believe a fire was roaring in the drinking area. There were lots of leather-covered seats to perch upon and the whole place has such a warm vibe, that you want to stay and have drinks. As to the eating area, this also has a lot of wood but the comfort stops there. Long tables are set up next to each other and you must share your table with other diners. I didn't mind this but I felt the tables were set too closely together and you cannot sit down without smashing your chair into the one behind you. Add to that the fact that a hot fan was blowing down on us, and your discomfort is complete. It was a cold night but neither me nor my companions wanted to be blasted by hot, forced air as we tried to eat. The restaurant was plenty warm enough without the added blast of hot air. We asked for the fan to be turned down and they did comply which made it a lot more comfortable . . .except when we attempted to move in our seats. Then you once again are faced with banging into the chairs set behind you at other tables. The food I had was excellent. I ordered a kale salad and the kale was cooked to perfection. The butternut squash that came with the salad was meaty without being mushy. I also ordered the macaroni & cheese which was okay. Nothing special about that. Just a basic dish. I also ordered two empanadas (one onion and cheese and the other with the chorizo). The waitress indicated these were on the small side, thus my additional order of the macaroni and cheese which ended up being too much food. The empanadas were good but I felt like it was too much cheese (and I love cheese!). My friend also ordered two empanadas, macaroni & cheese and roasted brussel sprouts. Like me, she felt the macaroni & cheese was too much. Really, the waitress steered us wrong by telling us the portions were small. Between the salad and the empanadas, I had plenty to eat. My other friend ordered a fish dinner which she said was good. I will take her word for it. The glass of wine I had (Malbec) was not very good . . .very average and almost undrinkable in my opinion. Overall, the food was very good but it's the service that left a lot to be desired. Between the misrepresented portion amounts and their inability to get our food on the table at the same time, I'd say they failed on this one. It turned out that after we began eating, that we had been given food that was meant for another table! We had ordered the same item. The problem with this is that our meal came to us in pieces . . .first the kale salad, then the empanadas and then a long stretch of nothing before they finally delivered the macaroni & cheese. My friend had to request her brussel sprouts 3 times before they managed to bring them to the table. Basically, some of us had no food while others in our party had a portion of their food. Add to that the fact that no bread or chips are offered at the beginning of the meal and you have lackluster service all around. So while the food itself was very good, I think the service was borderline unacceptable. There was no need for so much confusion with our straightforward order.

I met two friends at the bar who were enjoying Happy Hour. I joined them briefly at the Bar and then we proceeded to order. The waiter informed us that we need to make a reservation. It was a Friday and very busy. However, the staff found a cozy place for us to be seated. There were two medium size sofas and a coffee table. The meal was fine but I was really impressed with the atmosphere. Although the place was bustling, you could converse without shouting. We all had a great time. I would go there again. This was in January. Since then my friends have been there again and again.

We came for a late dinner with a few friends. Glad they suggested Shelter Pizza. Been there a long time ago. It fells very different, a better different. This place has lots of character, as you enter you feel transported right away to a ski lodge. It has this snow cabine atmosphere with fireplaces, taxidermy and raw wood decoration and other memorabilia. You are no longer in Brooklyn but more in some mountain far away. It’s a casual atmosphere where you can have dinner with friends, family, or just have a few delicious cocktails at the bar. The personal was very friendly, and our orders were quick to be served. The cocktails we had were delicious and original. I recommend the special. Very good. The menu is simple, many dishes you can share with your party by the fireplace. We order a few fares: The burger was awesome, so were the pizzas, we also had other a more couple dishes. I really liked it. Can’t wait to come back.

Great location, attentive waiters, great outdoor pavement eatery.Food was divine and very reasonably priced so I can recommend.I had a delicious baby kale salad and fish tacos and my husband had the best ribs with fries and coleslaw( best ever!)

Lovely place to spend a lot of time in. Good people, great decoration, ideal for empanadas and pizzas, good during daytime and nightime.

Definitely sit up the stairs in the lounge area. Nice little fireplace and comfy chairs and couches to sit on. Empanadas were surprisingly baked instead of fried. Skillet of Mac and cheese was delicious. Happy hour half price beers and $5 glasses of wine.

We dined here for a light dinner one evening. Welcomed in without booking and had nice table. Shelter is a old school urban look with some country thrown in. Multiple levels of dining areas. Food was fresh and pretty good however the burger although medium was charred way too much on the outside making it a dry and firm texture. Cocktails and wines were good. Would dine again and enjoyed the evening.

We walked by this place several time due to other reservations but our last night we went in. The place is cozy, with very good barsmen and fast and friendly service at the table as well. Food was superb; pizza, empanadas and the kale sallad

I found this restaurant almost by accident and it was a happy accident. The food is very good and plenty. We jad a great time there.

Nice bar, very good barmans and drinks. Food is superb, touch of latinamerican -argentinean- with splendid empanadas and wine.

Very roomy and comfortable in the Williamsburg area. Good with children. Good pizza and very good beer. Nice place to relax.

Really nice wait staff. Food was great ceviche, tuna carpaccio and the Empanadas! Will def be back!!

Decorated in Wild West theme, with antler chandeliers and long tables made out of one plant of a tree, this Pizza place surprised us with an amazing special of short ribs and their regular speciality of empanadas. We particularly liked the Chorizo empanada. Over 20 beers on tap and and almost 50 Scotch choices. Wasn't busy on a Monday but Saturday gets busy so plan ahead.

Service was great and the plates we ordered were very nice. I highly recommend the steak tartar and the kale salad. If you like white wine, the "Gruner, Josef Ehmoser, Austria 2012" was an excellent option.

The food, the people, the decoration, everything about this place is perfect!!! Fugazeta is the way to go!!!

We chanced upon this restaurant as there was only one very small sign on the wall and it looked like a "A wreck" from the outside. What a surprise, as we poked our heads around the corner to get in from the cold and snow. A warm and welcoming atmosphere which reminded me of a ski lodge, all wood and corrugated iron interior with an open fire and plenty of available seating. Food and drinks were ordered and did not disappoint. Great selection of beers and whiskies, good vibe and warm and cosy, just what was needed. Helpful and friendly service, reasonable value.

Found this place with my daughter and was meeting my son who was running just a few minutes late, around 10 minutes. When we arrived we told the hostess there would be 3 of us and she said its about a 20 minute wait and we could just wait at the bar, i gave her my name and she said got it I'll get you when table is ready, I said do you need any more info and she said No, my son arrived a few minutes later around 715, about 10 minutes after she had said 20 minutes, i went over at the 20 minute mark just to let her know my son had arrived and asked if she had any idea and timing and she said it would be another 30 minutes, I lightly reminded her she had said 20 minutes 20 minutes ago and she brushed me off firmly and said it will be 30 minutes. I went back to the bar where my kids were enjoying conversation and my daughter and me were finishing our first and only drinks. We waiting another 35 minutes now 5 minutes shy of an hour and I went over just to ask what was happening and she told me it would be another 30 - 45 minutes and while there were 5-7 tables open in the middle of the floor that was for a party of 25 they were expecting. She was not nice at all, not willing to help and really just plain nasty. Standing next to her was a man sort of shriinking into the background and I asked him if he worked there and he said he was the manager, he had heard the whole thing but wasnt willing to help at all. I directed my discontent at him and explained the situation, he said he would take a look and come to the bar to get me. 15 minutes later he came to he mare about 80 minutes into our wait, at that point I had my check from the bar for 2 drinks, $30 and my kids and I had decided we would leave, when he approached he explained he couldnt get us a table but we could sit at the (very crowded) bar. I handed him my bar check which i had not signed and said we're leaving and I really believe you should pay for these which he responded oh no. I said to him I've been waiting over an hour and when I walked in the hostess had told me and set an expectation that it would be 20 minutes and suddenly it's over an hour and we can only sit at the bar, you will pay for these drinks and reluctantly he agreed. I should mention the bartenders were wonderful and made excellent drinks but the hostess, the front person of the restaurant was a nasty imcompetent and stuck up B who not only has no idea what she's doing but has no idea how to make people feel welcome. My recommendation regarding Shelter is to avoid it at all cost and time, its lovely decor and setting is overwhelmed by its awful hostess and manager. AS a side note, we went to Cheeseboat immediately following and got seated, service was awesome, service was awesome and fun and pleasant and the food was great, I ended up have a great time with my kids and we loved Cheeseboat and didnt let Shelter ruin our night, dont let Shelter ruin yours either, avoid it.

Well, I'm one for good reviews but as a devoted member of the Brooklyn Brunch Club (is that a thing?) I've got to inform my peers! Shelter has a great atmosphere and the menu choices are certainly tantalizing. We ordered a fontina, brussels sprout, and bacon frittata and a chorizo skillet. Unfortunately, there was a long wait to get any coffee....which at 11am on a brunch day is unacceptable! Plus, the restaurant ran out of milk at the same time.... How can you help a hangover without coffee and milk? The food was alright - but it wasn't worth the final bill. The skillet tasted suitable, though it was sitting in a soupy, orange, unappetizing cream sauce. Perhaps we should have just picked the pizza or one of their many empanada options. The service was friendly and apologetic: "I'm so sorry but we're changing coffee machines -smile-". However, it did get uncomfortable (or fun, if you like drama) when the head waiter scolded a new hire in front of the guests. If you're hungry, Shelter will definitely feed you - but they might be out of cheese! or milk! or....pizza? Be prepared to pay more than you think is due. It's definitely not the worst - but it's average fare for a high Williamsburg price. I'll give them points for putting brussels sprouts in a frittata though!

This place is fantastic!! We were a group of 5 celebrating a 30th birthday and wanted somewhere to celebrate with a meal and drinks. It has a very cool vibe, decked out kind of like a ski chalet with wooden interior wood-fire. The food was really brilliant, especially the Empanadas!! Delicious cocktails, great service.... seriously nothing to dislike here!

Love the building and the atmosphere. Great meeting place for friends. Food is good. Empanada are small so order a couple if you’re hungry. Bloody Mary was a great addition to our Sunday brunch. Servers were friendly but not super attentive.

A great little spot to get a some drinks and pizzas with friends. Buzzy atmosphere amongst great decor

Drinks can take some time but they are worth the wait. The bartenders are fantastic, knowledgeable and engaging. All of the empanadas are unbelievable. Gin cocktails will change your life and the atmosphere is perfect for a rainy Sunday in Brooklyn.

This place is located in an amazing building, particularly the outside façade is impressive (see picture). Service is also good. However, the things that we were served which they called empanadas are a sad little things (each one for 6 bucks) with no flavor what so ever. I got beef empanada (mostly consisting of a boiled egg, with uncooked flour taste and I'm bad need of salt) and mushroom, goat cheese and kale empanada (anemic mushroom flavor, bland gouda instead of goat cheese and again in really bad need of salt). My advice, go have a drink to absorb the cool atmosphere and have food elsewhere
COOL SPOT NEEDS WORK
Cozy decor, with multiple seating areas, friendly staff but food lacks. Ordered portobello mushrm pizza flavorless, cheeseburger had by my son also lacked flavor. My mom had eggs benedict and said they were fine but then again she has a slight problem with taste due to medication.
