Authentic Sushi in Miami!

By Camil I |

Based on trip advisor reviews, i visited this Japanese sushi place for dinner. The place is busy, we barely found places for us on the bar so better book. The ambiance is far eastern and the food is very good. I really liked the chefs behind the bar, very professional yet extremely helpful as well.

Disappointing

By Samdegani11 |

Food was greasy. Table was sticky from oil. The whole restaurant had an oily smell that got caught in out clothes and hair. Food was OK but nothing more than that.

Dinner is great!

By Dianelis M |

I used to love coming here, but their sushi is just not the same anymore. It used to be tastier, now it's just whatever. Their Soba is delicious though and so are their dinners.

Awesome Sushi...

This restaurant serves authentic Japanese cuisine at affordable prices. It's pretty and the service is efficient. It's a bit secluded if you're a tourist, so I don't know if it's worth the drive, but if you're nearby, it might be great for lunch. I recommend it.

Satisfying food and pleasant staff

By Greg B |

Shibui is one of my "regular" restaurant favorites. As a vegetarian (no meat, no poultry, no fish) you'd think I wouldn't be at a sushi restaurant, but Shibui has enough vegetarian choices to keep me as a customer. I like their Age Tofu, Vegetable Croquettes, and Vegetable Roll, washed down with a bottle of Sapporo beer. Shibui has been here for ages, and I prefer the seating upstairs, where you sit on the floor. The greeters are pleasant when you walk in, and the waiters have always been pleasant with me. This is not a 'top end' place, but a good neighborhood place to get a meal.

Best sushi in Miami so far!

By Lilymust |

We arrived shortly after they opened and surprisingly it wasn't too busy... yet. We ordered Yukke which is an appetizer similar to tartare but with raw New York strip steak and it was amazing! I highly recommend this dish. Later we ordered a couple rolls and and a dinner dish for 2 and the fish was incredibly fresh. For dessert I usually don't like coffee based but I tried the coffee creme brûlée and it was delicious. Overall, every dish we had was delicious and we all agreed it was the best sushi we've had so far.

Yum!

Shibui's 34 year history speaks for itself. A cozy, quaint and friendly atmosphere. The food is excellent the staff is first class (ask for Margie) and the Thai Donuts is a perfect nightcap. The second floor has a Sushi Bar, Tables and floor accommodations! My all time favorite!

Awesome sushi and ambiance

By Catherine M |

I have come with my husband several times now and we have always been happy with our experience. We have come on a Friday night, on the weekend and even during the week. We have eaten in the main dining room, and upstairs where you sit on cushions on the floor. There is also a bar like area upstairs where you can watch the sushi chefs preparing the sushi. On our most recent visit we were seated in the very back room upstairs, which is sitting on cushions, but there was soft music playing and it made me feel like I was in a spa -- very relaxing. Our waitress came right away with warm towels to clean our hands and took our drink order. I usually get the plum wine, but this time I tried the Plum Ko, which is plum wine mixed with fruit punch, which I really liked. My husband had an Ichiban beer. We ordered some shrimp Gyoza, which were delicious. We then ordered some rolls to share. We try to order different rolls everytime we come. This last time we had the Funky roll, Spicy Crunchy Dragon roll and the Screaming O (this one we have had before and really like). We also got some Thai donuts to satisfy my sweet tooth. There were about 6 thai donuts sprinkled with powdered sugar and it came with a chocolate and vanilla dipping sauce. Just enough sweet for me. We will definitely continue to come to Shibui. We would like to try some of their dinners in the future because they sound delicious as well.

Great food and great service

By CelC |

I've visited Shibui several times and they always meet my expectations. They have 2 levels, the first floor has traditional dining tables and chairs while upstairs is Japanese style seating (on the floor on giant pillows). I always choose to sit up stairs because it adds to the whole Japanese experience. The food isn't pricey especially for the quality of food that you receive and the portions are very decent. It's perfect for a date night, birthday or just dinner with friends, I definitely recommend it!

Delicious sushi. Attentive waiting staff.

By Lauren Van Bever |

We had a little trouble finding the restaurant at first. It was tucked behind a few buildings but I'm really glad we found it. The place was packed, but service was really quick. We sat at the bar and had a lovely view of five sushi chefs preparing rolls. We ordered five rolls (asked for no cucumber) and they were absolutely delicious. Gorgeous flavors! I would recommend this place to everyone.

Good sushi

By Canesbiggdogg |

Had not been here in over 10 years. The rolls that we ordered were very good and fresh. We also ordered some sashimi. The fish was fresh and tasted very good. The place is old and a bit run down but the food was very good.

great sushi

By oldngroovy |

the sushi is excellent nice and fresh. the entrees are also excellent and good portions. soft shell crab is great. the only thing that kept it from 5 stars is the rest rooms. very dirty, floor is wet. make's me think about the kitchen.

Good food and a good atmosphere. The floor seating on the upper level is recommended.

Great food and view. The waitresses though...

By Rachelle R |

The view is beautiful. You're able to sit on the floor on these comfortable mats. If you sit on the second floor on the back, the tables are bigger. If not, just sick to the regular dining on the first floor. Food is fresh, but sometimes if your sushi has a lot of variety of fish or veggies it can break open leaving a mess depending on the chef; I've been here often and experienced it a few times. Now, the older waitress I've noticed can be slightly rude. I came here with a couple of friends once and one of them were upset because the waitress was not paying attention to her mess as much as the rest of us. I thought it was silly, but not my problem. Anyways my friend decided to not to a much because she didn't like the service; understandable. The waitress decided to come back to our table to argue with her about her tip. I thought it was very unprofessional and she has a habit of doing it from times I've watched from other tables. It's not what you say it's how you say it.

Best sushi

By Suzann L |

We when there a month ago and we were so happy to try it ! The food was amazing , the service was good and the sushi is probably the best I had in Miami . However , it needs a bit of renovation but is not the end of the world.

It's a hole in the wall but it truly is a gold mine.. this place is just awesome! I love the sushi here.. yummmmm! it's always worth the wait

SHIBUI...fresh seafood, generous portions, excellent table service!!!

By Occasional Opinion |

My wife and I dined here as tourists attracted by good TripAdvisor reviews. Food was excellent. We shared a Hamachi Kama which was delicious. My sashimi of the day was fresh, generous in portions, and nicely presented. My wife had California rolls, unagi and salmon roe. She enjoyed them all. The table service was excellent. I highly recommend Shibui and will surely dine here if ever again in Miami.

Amazing Sushi

By Lauren P. |

AMAZING!!! Best sushi in Miami! This place has been here for years. It is nothing fancy but the quality of the food is out of this world. You can taste how fresh all the fish is. I visit Shibui at least once a month as my “me time” and sit upstairs on the floor tables and have an amazing dinner to myself. The sashimi is my go to appetizer. Then I always order a roll or two depending how hungry I am that night. The service is always great and very attentive. The menu is well rounded, also has cooked items if your not in the mood for the raw stuff. They are very reasonably priced and never disappoint. Would recommend making a reservation.

Shibui Japanese Restaurant

By EvanGuthrie |

Shibui Japanese Restaurant on 72nd Street in Miami is a great place to go for all things fresh and quality sushi. I really like the location and atmosphere here that seems to transport you to a different place. Everything here is very delicious and well prepared. The staff here is very attentive and provides excellent service.

Great Sushi & Service

Excellent Sushi, Service and Atmosphere. Fantastic selections on a very wide variety Menu. Cozy, romantic.

I’ve been going there for over 30 years and continue to go back even though I pass by a few Japanese restaurants on my way there.

Fantastic Fresh Wonderful

By SavvyTraveler78 |

Shibui has been around for many years. It's a staple in the Miami sushi scene. Decor: Nothing special but has regular table seating down stairs, traditional (floor) seating upstairs and also sushi bar seating. Reservations are highly recommended. Food: Fantastic and always fresh. Extensive rolls menu with many original creations! I've never had anything there that I didn't like. Really a wonderful place to have dinner. Some of the best sushi I've had in Miami!!!

By Josh0614 |

I would have to say that for someone who eats sushi at least once a week, this is the one place that has never let me down. The Sushi is always fresh, the portions are good and their staff are always very nice.

Been going for over 15 years

By Elizabeth B |

High quality sushi, reasonably price and excellent service. What more can you ask for? Eat at the bar upstairs for a great treat!! Always great conversation and interaction between the chefs!!

Just OK

By Roberto S |

The place is OK, and the food also OK, the tempura moriawase was not so good, but I have to say that the rolls were the best of the dinner

Still the best sushi in town

By Hugomorales33 |

Not as good as it once was, but good enough to beat all the others I've tried in Miami

Not sure what happened..

By Ren R |

I have been going to shibui for over 20 years. Many special occasions. Yesterday i bought steak dinner to go, the meat was awful and i doubt if it was even beef. It was very white , dry and didn't taste like beef. I throw it away. I was so disappointed .

Not very good

By cjylowe |

Sushi was average, price was very high. THe food was very rich, and the portions were small. Would not come here again. I eat sushi often, and have visited Japan and other places in the world and it defintely would not be a place I would visit again.

Authentic food and atmosphere

By MateoExplorador |

Shibui brings authentic Japanese food and atmosphere to Miami! We ordered the fried shrimp gyozas and tsukemono (pickled vegetables) for appetizers, both of which were delicious. The bbq eel, stir fry and ramen were all fantastic. Note that the ramen is vegetarian - no pork and egg - where the pork and egg version is more typical in Japan. It was very tasty and I prefer the vegetarian version. The green iced tea was also really good. The restaurant is its own building, not a strip mall shop, which makes it a bit more special for this area of Miami. The service was excellent. We really liked Shibui and will be going back. Arigatou gozaimas! Enjoy!

Great place to dine! GetSome!!

By Loucious |

Never a Dull moment here at Shibui! Known and Dined at this establishment for over 35yrs and it never fails to perform! Bring all your friends, family, etc. Try the sushi bar upstairs! GetSome!!

Sushi Hideaway

By Stan J. Dominick |

This place has been here for over 20 years and it is still very good. I go here for Japanese when I am in the area. All of dishes are very good as well as the service. If you go, go upstairs where the Sushi Bar is located, it is enjoy watching all of the different Sushi being made and it has TV's as well. It is a cozy hideaway place for couples, but for large parties, it would be cramped.

Best Sushi in this part of town

By Eli1105 |

I've been a regular here for the past 12 years. To me it's the best sushi place in Miami! Super fresh food, nicely presented and welcoming venue. The location is west from the tourist areas but worth the drive. Highly recommend it!

Awesome Place!

By Bobby B |

I can't say much about shibui! The place is great, the waiter/waitresses are great, and the sushi is the best in town! Occasionally i visit this place from time to time for their sushi and sake. this place is clean from top to bottom when i went.

Fun Sushi Bar...

By Oldmaster |

This place is starting to show its age, but still has one of the more entertaining Sushi Bars in Miami. The Sushi Bar is located up stairs. The sushi has always been tasty and fresh here. We would come here more often, but its located in the Miami West Suburbs and we live in the City. Its worth the drive just to sit at the Sushi Bar and watch the interaction and we do this every once in a while.

Very Disappointing

By elizabeth376 |

If you have allergies you have to remind the staff continuously and if your not on top of it you could have a serious reaction. Recently informed the waitress of my allergies to fish to the point I mentioned I could die and regardless the food came with imitation crab meat. took one bite, throat started to swell and called the waitress over, the manager had no regard for customer satisfaction and shrugged her shoulders as if she couldn't be bothered. I wonder how they would have reacted had I called 911 and they had a lawsuit on there hands. Oh well, won't go back ever again and I'm sure business will decline if they continue with this non chalant attitude.

Very good, special atmosphere

By Miami_FloridaSandy33 |

A good place for a date, if you ask for the low tables in the back (less noisy and more intimate). The first floor and 2nd floor close to the stairs are very noisy. Bunches of people were waiting outside to be seated. i saw lots of Japanes people too, a good sign. We had booked so we got a good table in the back. Food was excellent but on the rich side -lots of mayo on the rolls (I had toe big O), so ask for it on the side. I had the eggplant as a starter, it was delicious, but also on the rich side (lots of oil). the creme brulee was light and delicious. The giozza were very good too. The tempura was well done.I recommend for the setting (if you sit upstairs) and the fair prices.

Could have been rated 5 stars but for the...

By toronado99 |

My family and I have just recently had dinner at Shibui for the second time and we all agree that the food and service are top-notch. We have tried a vast variety of items, from sushi to rolls to steak, and all have satisfied the palate admirably. We even decided to give dessert a try and were pleasantly surprised. So, you're probably wondering why, if the food and service are so great, why only 3 stars. The truth is that, but for one serious issue, I would have gladly rated this fine restaurant 5 stars. While eating, I watched as the busboy would wipe his face and mouth with his hand, then clear dirty dishes from tables, and, when done clearing the dishes, he would then use a spray cleaner and rag to clean the tables for the next guests. Without washing his hands, he would then proceed directly to occupied tables to fill guests water glasses and I watched as he grabbed glass after glass by the rim with his dirty hands. For gosh sakes, that is where people put their mouths to drink from the glass. To say I was grossed out would be an understatement. The proper procedure is, if you have to pick the glass up to refill it, grab it as low as possible and as far away from the rim as possible, then pour. No one knows where your hands have been, and no one should have to find out by putting their lips to who knows what. I have worked in this industry and one aspect of training that is of the highest importance is the public's health and safety. I'm just thankful that this individual doesn't work in the kitchen - I can only imagine the cross-contamination that would be occurring there if he did. I would highly recommend this restaurant to anyone if, and only if, they provide proper training to take care of the above unhealthy and unsavory situation. And for gosh sakes, even with clean hands a server should never pick up a glass by the rim - grab the glass near the bottom.

Best sushi in Miami area!

By sandra.m.gordon |

My favorite Japanese restaurant since moving to Miami in 2008 and I have tried very many! Excellent, deee-licious sushi, great service too. What more can I say? I now drive 40 minutes to get there! Ask for the green tea crème brulee which is not on the menu - it must be the best I've ever had!

I'm not a huge sushi fan, but I actually like it when I come here!

Always amazing sushi

By susan e |

I've been a patron of Shibui since 1983. I have been to sushi restaurants all over the U.S. and internationally and nothing else is the same. We sit upstairs and always make reservations, take out is available too. My favorite is the Macarena roll and no one else has anything like it. The dragon rolls are excellent and tuna is always fresh. The only thing that has changed are the prices but we still come here every time we are in Miami though we moved to the Tampa area in 2006. My 4 kids grew up with Shibui and I can say they must have really enjoyed it when I was pregnant because they all love sushi even the baby whose 9 now. Good service and consistantly good sushi. Worth the trip!

Good sushi

By Mariela L |

Nice upstairs and fresh sushi and the service was fast. I would go again!

Sushi = good, rest of the menu, not so much...

By triphiker |

To be fair, my judgment regarding non-sushi menu items is based on the stir-fry menu items. We ordered sushi for an appetizer, followed by the udon and seafood stir-fry. The sushi was good, although the tuna roll could've done with less mayo, a LOT less mayo. It was unceremoniously dumped on top of the roll and made the roll look like a mess. Tasted good though. The stir fry dishes were HUMONGOUS. The portions were huge and looked unappetizing - just thrown haphazardly on the plate. Mine was the udon and veggie one which had a 10:1 ratio of veg: noodle. We were hungry when we got there and both of us lost our appetites when we saw our huge entrees to the point where we now refer to anything huge as a 'Shibui'. I would recommend this restaurant for the sushi ONLY. The entrees are best split or eaten by people who have starved for a couple of days. Our Google Maps GPS took us farther than we needed to go, but the staff at Shibui was helpful in guiding us to their restaurant. Turns out we were only a couple of streets away.

They have the best sushi, totally recommend the Macarena Roll, and the Spicy bean sprout salad with tuna. For drinks The Raspberry Sake. You will love it.

Authentic Japanese

Every time I go there I'm happy. Every dish is good, but I love the chicken stir fry. They have a special "sit on the floor" on 2nd floor, and only open for dinner. Reservation is advised.

Shibui is awesome

By Sunshinefalls |

My husband and I love Shibui, we visit as often as we can for the sushi, always freshly made. My toddler loves eating with us on the floor upstairs because she can walk around in our booth area without getting in the way. The french fries here are awesome my daughters favorite. Try the cheesecake tempura perfect end to your meal. The Chicken teriyaki is good too. They make really nice green tea. one of my favorite restaurants. there is seating downstairs , not a quiet restaurant but can be romantic if you like. walk ins or reservations accepted. Long wait on weekends without reservations

Great Sushi, Very Slow Kitchen

By Carlos S |

We've ordered from them before, including when it was pick up in your car and the staff brought it out, thank you Red China. I did my part to keep food places from going under, when many were closing forever, never to return. The last 2 times I ordered from Shibui, my small order for 2 was ready in 30-45 minutes. Not tonight! I was told 45 minutes and arrived 5 minutes later, they were quite busy, between take outs and dining in. It ended up taking 90 minutes, for my order to be ready, ridiculous!! I think the person who told me 45 knew damn well that wasn't gonna happen, but told me 45 so I'd place the order. It bugs me that so many restaurants were begging for patrons not to abandon them and return for business. I get it, people are desperate and willing to put up with abuse, after months of lock downs. But the restaurants have a responsibility to their patrons to have enough capacity to serve their needs. I can't imagine Shibui would stay in business if they made dine in customers wait 90 minutes from the time they ordered to when their food was brought out. That means they take it out on the phone in orders and don't care how long we wait.. They may get away with that for now, but once the novelty wears off, the marketplace will take care of Shibui and any others who fail to deliver on a reasonable timeline. I won't be going back anytime soon, that's for sure.

Cozy Japanese fare in the heart of Sunset/Kendall

By Scott W |

I have wanted to go here for a while but somehow never found the chance until recently. The restaurant has its own parking lot just north of Sunset (72nd St) on 102 Ave. It is smaller than you think from the outside and the main floor seats about 12-15 tables. There is also upstairs seating Japanese style but we stayed downstairs. A large group was there for a birthday so that might have made it seem small although the noise level was very good. Our first impression wasn't great as one of one menus was saturated to the point of dripping in red wine. The hostess who was excellent took care of it and the wait staff were very good. The food was served on time and waters/drinks refilled regularly. The menu is very complete and clearly their dozens of appetizers and dozens of sushi rolls as well as dinner combinations of sushi, sashimi and other teriyaki, noodles, etc. dishes was impressive. To start we tried the shrimp gyoza. Five modest dumplings (steamed or fried as you wish) to a portion served with lettuce and sauce. They weren't very flavorful. We also had the spicy octopus salad (thin slices of octopus surrounding the salad base) which was very good and not too spicy. The salads were fresh and not overwhelmed with dressing so very tasty and miso soups were also very good. We then moved on to main course of corvina fish that was not very good and clearly frozen and quickly thawed, a great sushi salmon roll, beef teriyaki that was swimming in the sauce and a disappointing tired looking sushi combination dinner. We were there at the end of a weekday night so perhaps that's why it seemed a bit off. We shared some Thai donuts and fried ice cream for dessert, both excellent. We had warm sake and also some very well priced ($4) Kirin beers. If you go suggest you make a reservation to avoid waiting. We may try it again and perhaps our expectations were too high.

Love this place

By made1024 |

I visited shibui with my husband and daughter after a few years and the place is still as good as ever. Their service is amazing, the waiters are always attentive to your needs and not overly pushy. We ordered the ebi-shumai for appetizer and it's always great. For main course we ordered a few rolls, you will never go wrong with the rolls no matter which one you order. The spicy spider is my favorite. We always like to sit on the second floor loft so we can sit on the floor, however the place is way over due for a renovation. The carpets and table covers are really nasty looking that is the only reason I didn't give this place a five. Highly recommend it just don't sit on the 2nd level.

Our favorite sushi in Miami

By Palermo410 |

We've sampled dozens of sushi restaurants in Miami, but no one comes close to Shibui. The service is exceptional, the sushi is always fresh, and the homemade soy sauce is delicious. Also, you can order affordable carafes of decent red wine ($9 for half liter, slightly more for the full liter). Try the Bagel Roll and the Mexican Roll...they are truly fantastic. After your meal, try some frozen yogurt at Top That Yogurt (right next door).

Been coming here for years they have the best volcano roll of its kind no one else comes close the fish Ceviche is the best its thinly sliced with a drop of hot sauce awesome tuna tataki is delicious I've tried to find someplace in Colorado that even comes close but all we found were mice running around one of the best places in Colorado called Sushi Den and the food is terrible can't wait to get to Miami and go to Shibui always great service ask for yuki

Shibui: simple, subtle, and unobtrusive beauty

By underdreamskies |

This beautiful restaurant embodies what it is named after: simple, subtle, and unobtrusive beauty. Shibui is built like a house out of Japan, the entire atmosphere is breath-taking, service is attentive, and the sushi is delicious -- it's been a year since I frequent this restaurant and I enjoy their sushi so much I haven't bothered to try the rest of their menu! I have had their desserts and sweet plum wine, all great, I especially like the sweet bean ice cream. A lot of value in the price I think. Do yourself a favor and go!

Good sushi. Love the low Japanese tables. Helpful waitress. Definitely recommend it for the sushi enthusiasts.

Old Grey Mare Ain't What It Used To Be,,,,,

Last week I decided to treat my out of town friend to a lovely Japanese dinner at Shibui.... what a disappointment! While I've been going to Shibui for over 20 years - and experienced excellent dining - I had not been there in recent times. The staff was welcoming, but the food wasless than average.... an insipid miso soup, my favorite Dragon Roll was tasteless and had not a hint of crunchiness, and what seemed like a watered down version of sake. I question whether it has changed ownership, or the owners just don't care anymore.... sadly, a total disappointment!

Best quality sushi in Miami

By Dawnsneverhome |

I have eaten at shibui many times over many years. Other sushi restaurants don't even come close to this one. The spicy tuna roll is delicious as is the the spicy bean sprout salad topped with tuna and the beef negamaki.

great find

By zookeeperpol |

i live quite far from here but was intrigued with the place so i asked for upstairs seating, which is on the floor but comfortable. The waitress was Korean and very nice and had good recommendations. I must say the ceviche was my favorite in a long time (made with grouper), then the fried crab was awesome as were the rolls, sashimi, and desert. I must say i liked everything and i had a good time.

Great Japanese Dishes!

By kfitzeats |

Shibui has been a family staple for this community for such a long time, but a while back for some reason my whole family stopped coming since we had noticed a decline in food. This past Sunday I finally got my dad to come back in which I am so glad that we did since our meal was nothing less than phenomenal! Sunday around 7 and the place was pretty packed, loud per usual. We were seated promptly and handed their large menus. I'd definitely say take your time digesting the menu since its vast and offers so many great options. My family always holds on to the menu and order as we go so to start with we got the garlic mussels, the spicy octopus salad, and the fried pork shumai. The garlic mussels were a tad over cooked but really my only complaint for the entirety of our meal----the garlic flavor and vegetables they serve it with are amazing. The thinly sliced octopus salad has a nice kick but not at all overwhelming and was a refreshing start to the meal. The pork shumai was breaded and fried---scrumptious! Next we ordered three more menu items per person for all of us to share. For my boyfriend, we got the hamachi kama (grilled hamachi collar bone) that was absolutely perfect. The skin is crispy but the flesh is juicy enough that you can pick it off with your chopsticks---I highly recommend it! For me, I ordered my favorite roll which is the dragon roll topped with rainbow. All the fish was fresh and the shrimp within huge! My dad went for the mix-itame which is a seafood udon noodle stir fry meal that comes with rice and soup/salad. It was a large plate and absolutely filled with various seafood soooooo tasty! The sauce they use is tangy and sweet but not overwhelming. I will say the miso soup was pretty horrible which threw me off guard, it just tasted like it hadn't been cooked long enough so the tofu had a plastic taste. So why the four instead of five? Shibui was surely delicious but I will nit pick and say that my mussels were overcooked which was pretty disappointing since it came with so many. Also, this is no cheap eat so for the price I'm paying for each dish I expect quality which all the other dishes delivered! IG: @KFitzEats

Very Japanese and fresh.

By billaguero |

One of the few Japanese Rest. in Miami that still have floor seating. Friendly staff, average prices and authentic dishes, serving the best Yukke in Miami. Big and affordable selection of Sake hot or cold. RSVP is a must as place is always packed like a Walmart on Black Friday.

I just left Shubui. I've been here...

By gatorwedsnole |

I just left Shubui. I've been here several times before and have always had pleasant experiences. Until today. We ordered 5 rolls to share but only 4 came out. The waitress told us which was which and walked away. Now, at this point we should've realized that we were missing one, but we thought that maybe we did indeed end up ordering 4. (we had been a little indecisive when looking at the menu.). So we eat our 4 rolls and ask for the check. When we get the check, there are 5 rolls listed. We tell the waitress that we only got 4. But she insists that we got 5 and that I should go talk to the chef with her. I go with her and tell the chef that we only got 4, but he also insists that we got 5. They didn't take it off the bill. I couldn't believe that they wouldn't do it. We finally spoke to the manager and he finally removed it from the bill. Not sure that I'll be back. It's too bad b/c I liked the place.

By jbebe87 |

Shibui is one of the very few authentic Japanese restaurants. It has two levels, in the first floor its regular dining (tables) on the second floor is oriental style sitting. The sushi is very fresh, and you can order some off menu items like Onigiri. The staff is very friendly. I highly recommend.

My Go-To Japanese

By kfitzeats |

I've been coming to Shibui for a long time and this restaurant hasn't failed me yet. I even post mated a massive order that was delivered to my house arriving still fresh and delicious. My go to appetizer is the garlic mussels and baby octopus. I dream about these garlic mussels and always compare them to any other mussels I order at other restaurants (usually with disappointment). The baby octopus is notable because its far from over cooked and was tender, not rubbery or chewy. For entrees I usually order any sushi roll (because they're all so damn good) and the mix-tame seafood noodles which are always cooked to perfection. Highly recommend this spot for their large variety of all very tasting Japanese items.

Great for Date night

I went to Shibui with a couple of my classmates for my birthday and I was hooked. The food is fresh and tasty, the service is great and fast. I would definitely recommend it for a nice laid back date and request to seat on the floor upstairs. Trust me if you're looking for new fun thing, you won't regret trying it

Fresh sushi, a Miami institution

By martycaso |

I have been visiting Shibui since the 1980's. It was very hard during that decade to find decent Sushi in Miami, the availability of good sushi or any kind of sushi restaurants, for that matter, was very limited. Miami was behind cities like Houston or New York on this score. We dine in or order take out at Shibui at least twice per month. They have been able to maintain quality over all these years. We have heard that ownership has changed several times, but they have maintained the quality of their fish and seafood, something primordial in a Sushi restaurant. I hope they continue this excellence in the future.

Fresh Food - 70s Decor

By kdmia |

This restaurant has been open for decades and is never a disappointment. I would suggest making a reservation on a weekend since it is rather small and still has time slots when there is nothing available for walk-ins. The service is good enough; they are always ready to answer your requests for a refill or an additional menu item. Upstairs there is a sushi bar and an area for customers who would like to enjoy their meal while seated on pillows on the floor, japanese style! Don't expect tatami mats here - flowered pillows and vinyl may be your table decor and there is wood paneling too. BUT, the food is always fresh. The spicy octopus or conch are always good; for those of us who don't venture into too many sushi categories, the chicken teriyaki is good and can almost be shared by two people. Any of the Cuke (cucumber) sushi rolls are both beautiful and delicious - salmon or crab or eel. The crunchy Dragon Roll is a favorite with my family every time. The menu is pretty extensive and the kids and teens always love to order the funky japanese sodas - where the bottle has a glass ball inside that has to be activated by popping down the top. If this restaurant were in a less suburban location, next to a mall or movie theater, I would expect the lines to go out the door. The only disappointment? Don't order the decadent chocolate cake - too rich and too dense. The thai donuts though are excellent!!!
