Great quality food and attentive service. Call ahead if you are hoping to get a table less than a week in advance (including on the same day); otherwise, make reservations online. It's a bummer that parking is such a nightmare.

i have tried both restaurants and would prefer this one from the atatmosphere. it is more authentic but the sushi is great 8n both places. shiro's proves again what a difference a great ricr makes. the fish quality was amazing as you can see in the picture. the toro was tender but not full of fibres so my 9 months old son could have eaten it as it melts on the tounge. you pay a certain price for good sushi considering the quality of the food shiro's is not expensive

We went here for our tenth wedding anniversary. We lucked out and were able to make a reservation just a week before. Even without one, it would have been worth the wait. This was the best sushi I’ve had since I was in Japan. The fatty tuna was amazing, and so was everything else we had. The server had excellent recommendations, and we didn’t regret any. If you prefer Americans style sushi, this may not be the best place for you. But if you want an experience on par with Japan, you will love it. Pay the price for the Ken sake.

Asked at our hotel lobby for the best sushi in town, and they definitely recommended us the best! The quality of the fish is superb! Been in Japan already, and I can say this is as if you were eating there. Great service and very nice quiet place, even if it was full.

We were determined to go on a Sunday night and put our names down. We went to a bar to get drinks as we waited. We walked back over and there was a table ready. We wanted to wait for the sushi bar. And that was the best decision we made. The sushi chefs took us on an epic sushi adventure we will never forget. Each piece was made with love and precision. Each bite had unique flavors and was nicely seasoned. If you love sushi then this is the place for you. This is the way an omakase should be!

We ordered the omakase onigiri and we ate and ate! Everything was great! A more expensive way to eat but we enjoyed every bite! We’ll go again 👍

Fresh and delicious with a wide variety of fish, much of which is locally sourced. Excellent sake as well. Place is unpretentious and a good value. Friendly and knowledgeable service.

Had made reservations last week to celebrate a belated birthday for hubby. Coming from Louisiana and being foodies we always try to manage our expectations regarding food. This place did not disappoint, Our waiter, Lucien was awesome and gave great suggestions. Follow my advice and listen to your server's recommendations. While I am not a sushi fan the other 3 in my party just loved everything they ordered. Thanks for a great experience!!!!

One of the best sushis/sashimis/fresh fish i’ve ever had ! Guides say that it is the best Japanese restaurant in Seattle and I easily believe it is. Service was nice and very good although a bit pushy to order some more !... prices are high, such as quality !

This place.... is worth your money. I would even pay whatever the chef demands to eat their sushi. Simply amazing, and if you go here, you must try the OMAKASE.

Shiro's has excellent sushi and quick service. The space is a little small, and we had to wait about 20 minutes on a Monday night, but it was definitely worth it.

I always to to Shiro's when travelling to Seattle. I took 3 business associates. This is the best sushi that I know of in Seattle. I worked in Japan before and the quality matches good places in Tokyo. I prefer sashimi and it was really fresh. I highly recommend it but you'll need a reservation. Favorites: Sockeye salmon, chu toro, o toro, aji (they called king mackerel), hirame, even tai.

Went to Shiro in Seattle 2nd Ave on Friday. Place looked quite nondescript from the exterior. But it was bustling inside and you will be greeted by all staff and sushi chefs as you entered the place, exactly like what they do in sushi place in Japan. Ordered the regular sashimi, geoduck appetisers, seaweed salad and rainbow roll. The sashimi was very fresh, rainbow roll and seaweed salad were yummy. Geoduck was a tad salty for me but I usually find most food in USA a little too salty for my taste. Food was really really good, service was attentive but a little pricey. We paid aboit USD98 for the above dishes... But would definitely go back again if I am in seattle and have a craving for Japanese food.

The step up from any sushi I have experienced in Australia to Shiro’s was amazing. The subtle changes in flavors and textures with each plate of the restaurant special was above anything I have had in Australia. If you want to go here then definitely book as there is limited seating and we saw a number of people turned away even though they waited for over 40 minutes.

I come here every year for my bday. This Sushi is as good as the best sushi you can get in NY or even Tokyo. If you go sit in the bar and order Omakase. That's the best way to experience this delightful gastronomical experience

That´s the place to go in Seattle for having delicious Sushi in a very nice, Japan-like atmosphere. Usually I go there with the team and/or friends. Always good service, super fresh fish and sushi.

We had a meal of nigiri here (along with soup) and everything was delicious. Among other things the octopus got rave reviews. Excellent service, also. Well organized.

I'm Asian so I was excited to try Shiro's but I evidently didn't do enough research as I learnt that Shiro had sold his restaurant ages ago but the restaurant retained the name. Of the food, it is not possible to compare the level of finesse that Japenese chefs in Asia have (be it plating or precision) but this place filled a void in the Asian stomach craving for authentic Japanese food. Service was impeccable. We had Shiro's Tasting Menu and ordered 2 more appetizers - King Crab and Geoduck Butter. Both were winners. As for the Tasting Menu, I wasn't impressed with the appetizer course but the rest (sashimi, soup, sushi, entrees) were good. The sashimi in particular shone due to access to fresh ingredients in the area. The dessert was very odd for me as I prefer a lighter and cleaner finish instead of the tempura match ice cream with strawberries and cream. Overall great for sushi, some of the appetizers were a miss, but would come back if I crave for authentic Japanese food.

The only better sushi I've had have been on my numerous trips to Tokyo. Shiros's has the usual popular standards, but also unusual and delectable options--butter fish, needle fish, etc. (we missed out on the barracuda unfortunately) The portions are decent, and well presented. Service was friendly, and helpful. This is more expensive than other places, but it's cheaper than a flight to Narita.

The title says it all. I've eaten at some of the best sushi restaurants in the country, and this was the experience that convinced me that ordering omakase is mostly a gimmick (unless the chef actually knows you or is truly a sushi master). Otherwise, the fish here was pretty good, but it was difficult to have a good experience after being served geoduck clam when I explicitly stated that I don't enjoy eating clams or octopus.

Extremely fresh; menu is accessible to both novices and adventurous sushi lovers. Sake selection did it's job; however, I would have liked a few more options. Service was nondescript, as he was ready to answers any questions but added little to the overall dining experience.

If you want fresh sushi, this is great. Poke bowl was awesome. The tempura shrimp, spicy tuna, and salmon rolls are great. Defiantly reccomend if you like sushi

Finally, I had a chance to grab some sushi at Shiro's. Of course, it was to go, as we currently have a lockdown in place. The fish was fresh and the bites delicious. However, I felt the nigiri were rather small. Compared to Izumi in Kirkland, I'd say the quality is the same, except the portions at Izumi are larger and less expensive. Been there, tried it, sticking to Izumi.

Get a reservation...I was lucky to only wait 30 minutes without one, and that was a miracle because I was solo. Absolutely the freshest sushi I've experienced. Considering Shiro worked for the most famous sushi chef in the world (think Jiro Dreams of Sushi documentary), it shows. My salmon sashimi tasted like a fresh, cold dream of freshwater and succulent salmon, and the fatty tuna simply melted in my mouth. I am going back every time I come to town from here on out. Simply breathtaking. Next time, I'll try the omasake...let the chef do his magic!

We sat at the sushi bar and had omakase, meaning we ate whatever the sushi chef felt like serving us. We told him our preferences and he gave us the most amazing sushi I've ever eaten and explained each piece to us. I cannot recommend enough.

One of my favorite sashimi restaurants in Seattle. The service is good, but for me, the main event is the sashimi. They can be booked over a week in advance so plan ahead. In addition to sashimi, the miso glazed black cod was soft and tender.

Great atmosphere, great and gracious service and most of all amazing sushi! What do you want more? The place is small and outdated, as you would expect from an authentic local sushi restaurant in Japan. The quality of the sushi is on another level and the personnel is very detailed in explaining your fixed-course manu.

There were five or so pieces of sushi that were excellent-smoked etc. most were fair and not very creative . Saki bottle they highly rec also just okay. Dishes came out fast, no atmosphere so overall an average experience.

Years ago on a trip to Seattle, a hotel concierge pointed me to Shiro's as the best in Seattle. I tried it then and have gone back every time I've visited Seattle since. The fish could not be fresher. Whether its sushi, sashimi or a specialty dish, you won't be disappointed. The service staff is knowledgeable, attentive and very helpful. I highly recommend Shiro's to anyone visiting Seattle who is looking for a wonderful sushi dining experience.

Best sushi I've had in a long time. You can't get this fresh fish in Arizona!!! Definitely recommed to everyone!

My go to place for sushi in Seattle. Omakase had yet to disappoint. Jun took great care of me tonight. Thanks! I'll be back...

We enjoyed our meal at Shiro’s. Some choices were definitely better than our favorite sushi at home (Dallas), but a couple were not as good.

Shiro's was recommended by a few friends so I decided to give it a try. While the food was ok the service an atmosphere were disappointing. The sushi I had was ok - nothing more, nothing less. It was tasty but nothing like, uh, I need to come back tomorrow. The service and atmosphere were disappointing. First, while my wife and I had an appointment, we had to wait 15-20min. Our waiter didn't really explain everything and was impatient to get our order. We felt rushed plus it was loud. For the food quality and service, the prices are too high

This place was great! The sushi was delicious. Not a fancy place but the food was the star. Service was good. Would definitely go back and highly recommend. A gem.

Everyone in my part had the omakase, and it was fantastic. The atmosphere isn't super-fancy, but that's fine, as our meal was great. Our server explained everything clearly, and we had had just the right amount of food by the end of the meal. I don't typically like raw salmon, but the salmon course here made me a believer. Reservations definitely recommended.

Amazing service during peak hours from the server to the manager. Some of the best sushi I've had in a long time.

This is highest quality and most attention paid to the fresh fish ever. We had a reservation which was lucky since long line at 5:30 for dinner. Very casual but great food. Fish available from Japan and abroad was excellent. Only criticism is the service was too fast.

What a scam! They use the name of Jiro Dreams of Sushi in promoting the restaurant as if Shiro’s is somewhat affiliated to Jiro, but it turns out that this sushi chef Shiro did an apprenticeship under Jiro and opened this sushi restaurant, but he doesn’t even work there anymore. I’m sure he doesn’t even quality control the place. The omakase was terrible!!! Some convenience store sushi in Japan would be much better. The atmosphere and service level was subpar also. As a native Japanese, I may have high standards and I really want these Japanese restaurants to promote Japan’s high-level cuisine and services. But this restaurant was a big disappointment.

Shiro's is an absolute gem with a corner location and spacious dining areas. The sushi is certainly amongst the best we've ever sampled. The service was both attentive and knowledgeable. Shiro's delivers superb value in every aspect of a fine restaurant. It's the proverbial "don't miss" when one travels to Seattle!

If you like sushi you must try Shiro’s. What a treat to have gotten into such a popular place. Not a fantastic ambiance, but it didnt even matter! I don’t think I’ve had fresher fish anywhere but Japan. Not cheap, but worth the splurge. Highlights: rainbow roll, sockeye nigiri, geoduck nigiri & green tea ice cream

Omakase by chef Aaron was probably one of the best sushi experiences. The quality of fish is fantastic. The variety is very unique. I think I tasted about 30 different types of fish skillfully served and prepared. I really appreciate good sushi, and it is difficult to find a good place anywhere. The price tag is very high, but I would rather come here once than three times to a " regular" sushi place. The place is very busy, reservations is a good idea. I got to the bar by coming at 5.10 and waiting till 5.30 in line. I was number three in line. I think there is about a dozen seats at the bar. Service at the bar was polite and fine, but of course you are mainly waiting for the chef to serve. I definitely recommend this restaurant to real sushi lovers.

The sushi here is so good. The seafood is fresh. Service is good as well even though the restaurant is not big. A must try for sushi lovers while in Seattle.

If this is what authentic Japanese food actually tastes like, then I am about to have a really fantastic trip to Japan next week. I can’t begin to think how many different Japanese restaurants I’ve experienced in multiple cities in my lifetime but this is unquestionably one of my favorites, along with O Ya in Boston. I ordered the $75 all-sushi Omakase & every bite was spectacularly delicious & fresh. The descriptions of each piece were clear & thorough. My hubby adored his seaweed salad & seafood salad, both utterly superior & fresh. I described the kind of sake that I usually like & our server brought us a bottle that was absolutely perfect. In a rather telling moment, I urged our server not to include any cream cheese in the surprises that were about to be delivered to our table at the beginning of the meal. He replied, “There’s no cream cheese in this restaurant.“ Extremely highly recommended!

We brought a group of clients here and it did not disappoint. Arguably one of the better sushi experiences I have had - both in fare and service. Its a bit pricey, but what sushi isnt. I would no doubt come here again....it was that good.

We had the omakase here on a Friday night. The sushi is beautifully prepared and really delicious. The selection was good, with some interesting things included along with some more usual cuts of sushi - the whole prawn head was a highlight. Great service as well - the meal was very well paced and our server was very friendly and helpful. It's really expensive here, especially given the surrounds of the restaurant are like any local Asian joint, but six weeks on I'm still thinking back to this delicious meal. So I reckon it's worth it. Book well in advance if you can.

Chef Shiro Kashiba opened his Seattle restaurant serving in the classic Edomae-style sushi about 50 years ago. Opening the first classic sushi counter in Seattle at the Maneki, he then went on to found his own sushi house at this location One of the great delights I had eating at this restaurant when Shiro was behind the counter were his lessons in how to eat sushi. For those unfamiliar, sushi is dipped in a sauce which is soy sauce mixed with green horseradish. That's not guacamole sauce Batman!! As Shiro loved to educate patrons, the raw fish is placed upside down (nigiri sushi) and into the hot sauce, "to cook" it he would explain. Then the sushi is swiftly turned with your chopsticks and placed fish side down on your tounge. The whole piece. Let that sit a minute on your tounge before chewing. There is also I learned from Shiro a definite order of sushi. Eat what you want, ginger between, drink lots of saki (poured only by your companion), but all joyful, exploratory, savoring the flavors. According to Shiro, the final dish should be barbequed eel (unagi) which has a sweet sort of sauce on it. Dessert he explained patiently to my daughter, who at 7 was just well manner enough to sit for a lesson on sushi. Shiro has retired I am told, or has started another place. I'm aware only of the rumors. He is not behind the counter when I was last there and I heard different things about his location. He was a great showman as well as a restaurant operator and his style continues on

The fish here is beautiful. And, the sushi, sashimi, and everything is just great. You won't be disappointed if you visit this landmark!

Wouldn't you expect to be served some of the finest sushi in Seattle - at the "famed" Shiro's? Someone needs to try truly authentic, suculunt, generous and creative sushi at the Sushi Den in Denver, CO. I know - you'd have thunk it? First - only a beer and wine license? Are you serious? Okay - we found some okay wine at okay prices by the glass. Tempura was fresh and delicious. The shrimp was outstanding. We also tried the brussel sprouts. A bit strange for an "authentic" sushi restaurant, but worth a try. Steamed and chewy. That one's on us! BTW - server was very thoughtful, sweet and attentive. Then came the "real deal" - some simple unagi. The salmon was so thin you'd have thought it was hit with a mallet. It should be thick and succulent. Not even a wisp of wasabi between the tender rice and smushed salmon. The kani crab (though they call it something else) was dry as a bone. It sucked-up the soy like reconstituted crab - yes crab with a "C" and not a "K" - although in hindsight, KRAB would have been far more favorable. Yuk! We had to ask our server for some wasabi and ginger. Doesn't that usually come standard at all sushi restaurants? Once brought, however, it was excellent. What galled me the most was not the mediocre food (by the way, the place was packed at 7:00 - so maybe it's me?). But mediocre it truly was. The web site. That's what got me. Congrats to the illusionist who would have a sushi-craved customer expecting to be entering on of Seattle's finest sushi establishments. Are you serious? Just getting to the damn men's room required walking between 2 serving stations, down a dingy hallway, use a passcode and somehow I found myself walking out of the Italian restaurant next door that also shared the same dirty, dingy restroom - but wow did it smell great and look delicious! Sure, sushi is a very subjective delicacy, but the stuff at Safeway in the plastic boxes had more tenderness, flavor, quantity and interest than this. Wonderful waitress. Management was no where to be seen (they usually aren't when the food is so mediocre), food delivered timely, warm/cold as it should, but flavor and skimpy over-priced pretentious portions were inexcusable. Food was presented with no interest or embellishments on the plate - anything to get you mind off of the skimpy portion size and that fact that you were being overcharged through the kazoo. Even a faux plastic leaf would have been a nice touch of interest. In stead of something plastic that will mess up our environment even more, how about real dikon radishes, baby greens - anything! Wow - real food with flavor and interest. Novel concept.

Terrific, high quality sushi. Expensive, but only because I like to eat a LOT of sushi. The quality is commensurate with that I've had throughout Japan.

We were in the area and had herd nothing but great stuff about this place. We stopped buy with out a reservation and we were sat right away and they were very busy and it was a Monday night. We got the Chefs tasting menu our waiter Oscar said that is the best way to try it . And you enjoy it as the Chef has made it for you nothing extra. This place is very busy we lucked out I would call ahead !!! And it is not cheep ! But it is some of the best Seattle has to offer and their staff and Chefs are top notch . Great job we will be back ! Hope this helps Chef Paul

I had high hopes that Shiros was going to be a really great sushi place. I actually found it to be mediocre. The sushi is somewhat overpriced, and I tried several other items on the menu including broiled black cod. It was all very good but not great. The sushi is above-grade from any run-of-the-mill sushi restaurant (and I've eaten at dozens of them including at the Tokyo Fish Market in the morning). This is on the good side of okay.

How in the world did this little diner get high ratings before??? Little tables, terrible service, poor wine, and the sushi was no better than what I get at home in Austin at a chain....

I read up on this place and wanted a solid Seattle sushi experience. Shiro's delivered for us. I would make a reservation. Saw a few people turned away. I was most impressed by the friendliness and helpfulness of the service (we were traveling with 2 sushi fan teenagers and we ended up ordering in a very unplanned way - our waitress was extremely accommodating). We like sushi but by no means are experts. We have been to what appear to be good sushi restaurants in a dozen US cities and this was up there with the better experiences. Everything seemed very clean.

This place is simple, but full of class and in a great location. Not to mention the food! My partner and I came here to try the otoro "fatty tuna" specifically because it is our favorite type. We were not disappointed! The best quality sushi we both have ever had. I highly recommend this place for sashimi or sushi, though I did not try any rolls.

Like all the previous reviewers have said the quality is exceptional. The waiting stuff are well versed in what they are serving, its origin and the flavours your palette will experience. The chocolate soufle is exceptional also. Certainly at the very high end of price range...

One of the best Japanese restaurants in the US: excellent service, fresh fish, creative menu and a very pleasant environment. Reservations required .

Shiros is a small restaurant with a big hit. You pay for what you get here. Flavour, mouth watering, delicious sushi. I’ve never been to Japan. But this is what I’d expect to have there. Simply put. If your in the area, go to Shiros. My recommendation is to call a head for a reservation, as you’ll need it. We had the chef special $75 for 18 pieces, over 5 courses. My wife and I were blown away by the quality, and the flavour.

I reserved here about a month in advance. It was meant to be the high point of our two-week trip to the PNW, and Shiro's did not disappoint. The food as well as the service was excellent. The server was very attentive, offering to make substitutions for any dietary restrictions we had, and we did not feel rushed at all. If you are into sushi and have never tried omakase before, there is nothing to be afraid of. You may end up trying something that you might not have otherwise ordered, but that's part of the experience!

If you crave authentic, fresh, raw sushi, you'll love this crowded spot. It's hard to book a table unless you do so a week or more in advance. Everything is fresh, prepared with pride and served by the friendly waitstaff.

Lots of Asians and young hipsters, drinking lots of saki! Decor / reflected sound made it too loud for us. Service was a bit slow for us, since we were not having alcohol, and therefore spending less than our neighbors. No place to park nearby so we left our rental car and took an uber....walked home, and turns out we could have easily walked there too. Shared restroom down a back hall after you go thru a food prep area; don't forget to note the code needed for the restroom as you leave the restaurant!

Tried making a reservation and it was submitted and that it will be considered.. never got back to me . So many better Sushi restaurants than this arrogant one.

My wife and I chose to dine in this restaurant during our vacation to Seattle on the basis that the founder had been trained by the famous Jiro Ono. To say the food was a letdown was an understatement. There was too much vinegar in the rice resulting in it sometimes overpowering the taste of the fish. Not all the fish was fresh and some of it tasted like it had not been refrigerated at the right temperature and was a bit mushy and not firm. The wasabi tasted as if it had been watered down to suit western palettes. There was no ginger provided except to customers that ordered the Omakase meal, and even quality of the Shoyu sauce and green tea was poor. We thought we were supposed to dine in a premium Japanese sushi restaurant but the food and even the decor was more suited for a Japanese casual experience. I hope this feedback gets to the founder unless he has sold out or doesn’t really care anymore because it was such a sad experience for us.

We checked out quite a few of the top rated sushi restaurants on our trip to Seattle and Shiros was the best. Their nigiri was melt in the mouth delicious. Would definitely recommend.

The fish was fresh and there was a good selection. The miso soup was cold, the rolls very small, and the sashimi portions paltry. Not worth the price. Service also a bit arrogant.

Don't worry if there's a line when you get there. They are meticulous about getting their list in order to jive with reservations, but had plenty of room for the 20-30 people standing outside as it opened. This isn't your typical American sushi restaurant with spider rolls and fried whatever rolls with spicy mayo. Except for one or two rolls, it's more like the legitimate sushi you'd find in Japan - simple and clean flavors. I was very happy with our (many) rolls as well as the friendly and attentive service. Highly recommend!

My son and I went for dinner for "the best sushi in Seattle." I thought it was good and extremely overpriced.

Went here every time I was on business here. Traditional dishes, and fresh fish. Generous servings of sashimi especially Toro. The specials are worth trying too like the soups served in a tea pot.

I placed an order to go at 5 PM because their website says they accept to go orders from 5-9 PM. I immediately received a message after I placed the order that said my pick up time was 8:30 PM! A 3 & 1/2 hour wait for a to go order is unacceptable under any circumstances. Other than that it is one of the best sushi restaurants in Seattle. My advice would be to dine in and not order to go.

The place to have sushi in Seattle. Not cheap but some of the best sushi I have ever had. The chef's tasting menu was so fresh and imaginative. 4 kinds of tuna presented in one course - it was amazing to taste the differences. Reservations a must.

I took my husband here for his birthday. Very friendly staff. All sushi was fresh and well prepared. Reservations are highly recommended. The sushi bar is on a first come/first served based. The sushi chefs talked amiably with those sitting at the bar. Will definitely return and ask for the Omakase (traditional Japanese chef selection sushi).

If you like Japanese food, ordering the many tasty dishes served here can wind up pretty expensive...and you can still walk out wanting more (maybe that is good).

I've been here several times, the most recent was this week (attempted, was turned away as described below) The sushi is indeed fresh but the focus here is primarily making pretty sushi. So, the portions are small and given the star appeal the prices are high... too high for what is delivered. Also, the service is always snooty. The reservations are horrible. Several times now I have called and was given a specific time only to arrive and simply be put on a waiting list and when I asked what was going on the person, who was clearly the person I spoke with to make the reservation, did not care and acted like it was out of her control. Yes, it is in her control. I should have been advised it would the the hour long wait I was advised of when I walked in the door. Instead, they lure you down there to just come on down to create the appearance of being busy and popular. Which leads into my next point. No local Seattlite should be going here. Well, maybe go here once so you can tell those from out of town not to bother. There are soooo many other, equally high quality, better priced places that there is simply no reason to go here. Well, if you are the sort of person taht likes wearing large, logo fashion wear so people see the logo and know what you are wearing, then this may be the place for you. The only reason you would go here is because it is an "it" place to go. So if that is what you are looking for come here. If you are looking for fresh sushi, at standard size portions (not the little bitty ones you get here) and without the supesrized arrogance they have had year for several years now at the front desk, don't go here. If you are looking for super high quality sushi with an inviting staff go to Jae's in Madison park, there are several places in Ballard, and heck throw a rock because you can't do that without hitting two sushi places in this town. I, for one, am not coming back here and you could not pay me to do so.

The sashimi was very fresh and the seaweed salad was nice and refreshing. Also ordered the geoduck but found that a bit too salty for my taste. Also ordered a rainbow roll to share with friend. Food was great but place pricey. It costs about C$100 including 15% tips for a dinner for two. Recommend this place if price is not an issue for you.

Worth the wait in line, though my husband and I played it just right and walked right in without reservations. We had the tasting menu- some of the best sushi I've ever had, hands down! Would highly recommend for any sushi lovers.

Chef Sean is the best! We had the pleasure of sitting at the counter and enjoying 26 rounds of delicious omakse (yes, we were stuffed). Sean chatted with us the entire time, was extremely knowledgeable of his craft, and catered our dinner to our likes. We highly recommend this experience. Heads up, in order to enjoy this, we arrived at 5pm and waited until opening at 530. It was a really cold, Tuesday in January, so there weren’t many already standing in line, but the restaurant was completely filled by 545. Sean told us it was a slow night and in the summer the counter omakse wait line wraps around the block. Plan ahead! The wait is worth it.

Came to Seattle on business for a week and went to Shiro's Sushi on my brother's recommendation. I ended up coming twice! The rolls were great but the tuna and salmon nigiri were wonderful! I wasn't going to have dessert but the waiter convinced me and recommended Shiro's Flan Brûlée. What can I say, it was just amazing!! I will come again on my next trip to Seattle! What a great place for sushi!!

Not sure who said that "if you are ever in Seattle, you have to try Shiro's but it was a great recommendation. We found ourselves in downtown Seattle last weekend and were fortunate to get a reservation at Shiro's. Even better, we were within walking distance of this charming little spot. Not a big restaurant but certainly one of the best. We selected a few small dishes and a little sake... We then let our server take over. He brought over a few specialties...and then a few more. No need to even look at the menu. Just let the very professional servers guide you through a wonderful culinary experience. When we entered, here were a few empty tables. When we ended out feast, the line was out the door so make reservations! A trip to Seattle, needs to make sure that Shiro's is on your list! A must! Enjoy! We sure did!!

We read a review and decided to check "one of the top ten" japanese restaurants in Seattle, according to the review. The food was good but not exceptional...the restaurant is a bit noisy...and difficult to get a hold of (call waiting service makes you think no one answers the phone) Overall an average good restaurant but nothing special, particularly with that price tag...

Excellent, fresh sushi in a friendly low key environment. The food was fantastic and they handled our gluten free needs well.

After hearing that this place was opened up by one of Japan's most famous sushi chef, Giro's, apprentice, I couldn't have been more excited for my much anticipated visit to Seattle. However, I left feeling like that my meal was just ok and that I have had much better. To be fair and probably biased, I feel that Los Angeles has the best sushi outside of Japan. I ordered a set sushi course that was fairly priced at about $35-40 for i think 6 to 8 pieces of sushi which was good and some other items a la cart. My group of 4 also ordered 2 large bottles of cold sake and a few bottles of beer. With each of us sharing 2 appetizers and roughly 10 pieces of sushi per person, our bill came out to $460 before tip. The one dish that did stand out and that was exceptional was their Negi Toro sushi. It was a decadent, mouth watering, melts like butter, 2 piece sushi of perfectly minced Toro and green onions on top of sushi rice and wrapped with seaweed. Besides the food, the ambiance was warm and cozy and the service was friendly but lacked knowledge of their Sake menu. We specifically told her we didn't like too sweet of sake but because she didn't know her sake and rather than asking someone that did know, she gave us a horrible recommendation that was one of their sweetest sakes.

Had reservations for 8. They made us wait 30 minutes. To their credit we got a complementary dish because of the wait. Also, they were rushing the orders, encouraging us to order before sitting. Seriously? The food was pretty good, nothing amazing. Americanized rolls and desserts. Price was reasonable. Good service other then rushing orders. Good atmosphere. 3.5 stars really

Shiro’s is consistently one of the best sushi spots in Seattle. The rice is perfectly seasoned, the fish is always fresh, and the quality rivals sushi in Japan. The Chef’s Choice Sushi Course is a fantastic deal—19 pieces of nigiri for $85. The Bluefin 4 Ways is my favorite, always a highlight. We’ve tried the bar for a special occasion, which was awesome, but the tables are our go-to for good quality sushi cravings. Shiro’s never disappoints—great quality, great value! *20% service charge will be added. We spent around $250 for two sets, one appetizer and one dessert.

Was expecting more with all the compliments. Wasn’t very impressive. But the overall quality and taste were good. Service is top notch.

We made reservations when they open for the day for the same day dinning. Fortunately we were able to get a table. When we arrived, we were seated but not too excited with our table as it was so closed to the hosts work space. The Omakase, chef choice, for the night food items were excellent, very fresh sushi and Sashimi. and other food items we ordered were good to excellent as well. But the waitress was very comical and has a heavy Japanese accents. She forbid us to add soya sauce on certain sushi dish with a hand cross gesture. Very interesting and to the point. We had a good time, the ambience were good

Went with a friend that is now a local. Easily one of the best sushi dinners I’ve had. Because of covid right now all dinner is a 19 bite omakase for 75$/person. You can add on appetizers and drinks, but nothing else (so no sushi rice burgers at dinner). We just did the set menu and were plenty full. Considering the quality of the food and the overall experience, this is well worth it. I really hope to be back. It was full - make a reservation.

I enjoy sushi here every time I am in Seattle. As a resident in Tokyo, that may tell you something. The original owner, Shiro, sold his shop here and moved to a place on Pine, Sushi Kashiba, near the public market. Aside from the great fish, this eatery offers bottled Japanese beer, sake, and a selection of mostly local white and red wines. Sometimes I have found the service not up to the high standards of Japan, but not often. If you can, sit at the counter, the best way to enjoy a sushi meal. That means you should arrive around five, 30 minutes before opening, and you may still be waiting in line, but it’s worth it.

This place was so good. Real Toro, real salmon, fantastic recommendations and top shelf Sake. Maybe the best meal of my life. I will fly back from Alaska just to come to this restaurant.

I spent one night in Seattle for work, and was told by several trusted friends that this place had to be my choice for dinner. I got there an hour early to be the first in line, to ensure a seat at the bar. What followed was a 90 minute dinning experience, with a small group of strangers who all felt like family by the time the meal was over. I went with the omakase option and chef Aaron took me on a culinary adventure that challenged my pallet, but never disappointed. I would consider this place a bucket list item for anyone spending even a single night in Seattle. Fair warning though, I spent about $160 on dinner for one, and only drank water.

One of the best meals of my life. My husband and I Love to eat at great restaurants plus we are from Louisiana. We know good food. Shiro's exceeded expectations plus.....Aaron was our chef. He taught us about new sushi and fish we had never heard of. Very authentic. This place has ruined sushi for me!! The bar is just set too high.

We did not have time to enjoy the experience of dining here so we ordered dinner to go. Everything was delicious! The tuna was amazing and the shrimp roll had a wonderful flavor. For dessert we had matcha tiramisu. I would order everything again but would plan to eat at the restaurant next time to try additional creations.

Melt in your mouth sushi, I kid you not! Do yourself a favor and let the chefs pick your pieces. For all the non-sushi eaters; THE BLACK COD IS AMAZING! Pair it with a Seaweed Salad and Clam Miso Soup! The absolute best meal I had in 2018!!! Make reservations if you can. 2 hour wait. To seat at the bar and watch the magic you need to be there at least 30 minutes before it opens

Amazing restaurant. My two sons and I sat at the sushi bar and elected chef's choice. Chef Jun entertained us for an hour and a half with some of the best sushi I have ever eaten. A little expensive, but for the best sushi experience and being on vacation, it was worth it. Do not be afraid to say "no" to items that you do not want. Chef Jun always told us what was the next item he was preparing and allowed us to say "no" if it was something that we were a little apprehensive about. Sea Urchin in particular.

Best sushi we have ever had. We had chef selection each plate was brought one by one and explained. Delicious!

Incredible, fresh sushi! some of the fish are imported from Japan according to the specialty menu! Crowded and bustling, so reservations are highly recommended. Delicious, authentic dishes.

One of the best place for Sashimi & Sushi in Seattle.Sashimi is very fresh & sushi rice is so delicious.Restaurant decor is modern & very clean.Service is excellent. Our waitress is very sweet & polite.

I don’t understand the negative reviews - Shiro is gone but the quality of the sushi is not. We got the Premium Sashimi and Premium Sushi dinners and we’re quite pleased. Service was impeccable and let me just say again, the sushi was heavenly. Fresh, buttery, delectable, all of the things you alwajt your sushi to be. Tip: Skip the line and make a reservation up to 2 months before. I think if you are a week out it it’s too late. You can’t sit at the bar but it doesn’t diminish the experience or the quality of the food. Highly highly recommend.

2 time visiting Shiro's it still lived up to expectations. Also this time we sad in the bar and had the Cook make whatever they wanted. It was excellent!

I had dinner here for the second time and it was better than the first time service-wise. The sushi and sashimi was first rate - prices in line with the quality.

Whenever in Seattle this is a stop for my partner and me for sushi. Make a reservation or get their 30 minutes before opening and see if you can sit at the counter, the best place to eat sushi and watch the "action." We have been eating here for years. Bear in mind tht the original owner of this restaurant, Shiro, I believe sold his restaurant and was planning or has opened a new sushi restaurant in Pike Place market. The quality of the sushi is not quite what it was and prices have gone up. Service at the counter is excellent.

Best sushi in SEATTLE! Highly recommend sitting at the bar and getting the Omakase, and if you cant get a bar seat, would recommend getting the Chef's selection sushi and the geoduck. The fish is the freshest you will ever eat and the geoduck is buttery and delicious with asparagus cooked to perfection!

Overall I was pleased with this dinner where my wife and I had the sampler array with seven small platters — and I also ordered some octopus and a couple of other nigiri. But there were some off notes. For openers we had the stone-grilled geoduck (25) . You could cook this as you liked, but it didn’t need more than a few seconds per side, and there was a dish of salt to go with it, it didn’t need much. The sweet shrimp, for those who may not be familiar with this item, I find too mushy. But other diners may like them. The salmon roe was creamy. Wherever they got it from, very good. Tuna four ways: lean, marinated, stomach, fatty — were diverting. You can see the thought that went into some of these dishes. My octopus seemed a bit off. The stock needs monitoring! Loved the scallop. Sushi usually has a splash of wasabi in it, but here, not much. I’m not sure if this is a Seattle thing or what, but I need more wasabi! No side plates of pickles or sprouts? Why not? Braised Ling cod with a yellow sauce, delightful. Little plate with a shrimp head, this was crunchy, fun playful. Very good. My wife complained about the ginger (“not homemade”), and the soy sauce (“too salty”). $140 for two (no drinks).

I had excellent sushi here with a friend a while ago. It certainly is fresh and the real deal, but quite expensive. We paid $137 (including tip) for two. It was worth it, but ceratinly a splurge meal. Service is so so; that is why I put 'average' as a rating instead of 'very good.'

I came here by myself as I'm in town on business. There was a wait and the bar was full but the waitress said she'd seat me in 10 minutes. It was probably closer to 5 minutes that she brought me to a table. The waiter was excellent and helpful. The sushi was amazing! I wanted to order more but got too full. Yes it's pricey but you get what you pay for - so fresh and high quality food. I hope to get back there again soon!

I really wanted to like Shiro’s, but it just didn’t live up to expectations. I will start with the positives: service was friendly and attentive, the cod was amazing (this is one dish that’s worth going for, it is really that good. But I was really disappointed by the sushi. Given that this is a highly regarded sushi place, it just wasn’t good. The fish was very little, you couldn’t get a true texture and feel of the fish. Yes, it’s fresh but the sushi size was just so small that you couldn’t really appreciate it. I have had sushi in many places around the world, including japan, and for this place to be so highly regarded, the sushi was quite disappointing.

This was our first trip to Seattle, and our first dinner in the city. We made a reservation for another sushi place down the street, but when we walked to it felt it was too pretentious. We canceled the reservation and walked back to Shiro's. So glad we did! The wait staff was friendly and fun from the moment we walked in. We ordered sake and some appetizers and settled in for the evening. The waiter gave us great recommendations and spent time joking and laughing with us. The other local patrons in the restaurant told us of some great spots to hit after dinner. The food was amazing, the place was super clean and cute. One of the best nights of our trip!

Loved the fish at this very reasonable restaurant in Seattle. We walked from our room at the Hyatt and the trip was worth it. I had the fabulous sashimi (white tuna, copper river salmon)--yum!

On Saturday night, I reserve the seat at 9:30 but I went there early at 5:00pm and waited for 30 minutes. Bar is available for one person. Decide to seat at the table. Order

Visited here with clients for dinner. I'm glad i made a reservation because when i arrived at 5:30 (opening time) there was already a line outside (good sign!) This place is really a gem. The food and service were wonderful. The three of us split some appetizers including Seaweed salad, Shishito peppers, and Geoduck. All were excellent. We then split an assortment of rolls and Nigiri and were delighted with the freshness and tastiness of the different fish. The server dutifully explained everything we were eating and was very nice and attentive. I couldn't speak higher of this place and strongly recommend it.

Had reservations for a birthday 'omakase' dinner with family & friends. Parking is on the street, but we got one right away! The sushi bar is always full, but the table service was 'almost' as good. Noticed no 'gari', the pickled ginger with the sushi. Nice selection of wines and sake. Unfortunately, no miso butterfish for us, nor a birthday dish,. :( for the birthday girl.

One of the best places to eat in Seattle!! I have eaten here 20 times over the past 5 years and it has been amazing everytime!!!

The preparation, presentation and quality is as good as it gets in the USA. I was impressed and highly recommend for a traditional sushi meal!

Definitely the better sushi in every standard, you can tell the ingredients are carefully selected and prepared Yes, you need to pay more, but it is worthy

I am no Sushi expert, but I have eaten at one of the stalls outside of the Tsukiji fish market in Tokyo so I like to think I have some credibility. Honestly, this place rivals that experience. We elected for the Sushi Omakase which is done in courses. From beginning to end the progression of fish made complete sense to me. Also, I love the fact that they instruct when to use Soy sauce and when not to. This way you experience it the way the chef intended. Some highlights were the Salmon course which featured amazing Salmon shoulder. The fatty tuna plate was as good as anything I ate in Japan. I am not a huge fan of rolls, but theirs were the best I've ever had. The restaurant is quaint with a friendly staff. It was an overall excellent experience at a very fair price.

We came here for dinner and had the Chef's Choice Sushi Course for $85. The 5 course meal with 19 pieces of nigiri sushi was fantastic. All of us would come back again.

A self-proclaimed sushi snob, I have been to the "best of the best" for sushi, many of which attempt to lay claim to the superiority of their sushi. I've had many outstanding sushi experiences, but I have to say, Shiro's was number one. We ordered the tasting selection or Omakase and one dish after another kept outdoing the other. The salmon and the toro were my favorite and truly the best I have ever had. Also, the uni was unlike any other I've tasted with a quality unmatched. Cannot recommend Shiro's strongly enough and honestly, another trip to Seattle may have to be planned around a meal at Shiro's.

Our hotel concierge recommended Shiro's (thank you Westin Hotel!) and made the reservation for us. If you like Japanese food... just eat here. Don't look any further!! It is sort of small so a reservation might be needed. We ate later in the evening and the restaurant was full with people waiting for a table. Our server knew the menu very well and was able to help us chose a truly lovely meal. The sushi and nigiri were unbelievably fresh -- and delicious! We were not rushed -- even though people were waiting. The cost was entirely reasonable!

Only Omakase dinner can be ordered. For a premium price, one would expect premium quality sushi. This is not bad sushi but definitely not worth the price. Staff were attentive and friendly. Restaurant has a nice ambiance. The black cod that was additional order turned out to be the best dish.

I've had several great omakase experiences at Shiro's and took my wife so she could see the spot she's heard so much about. But this time it was very so-so, simply mediocre. The omakase option wasn't available apparently but there was a fixed menu that we went with. Not near as good as other evenings. There was a Japanese lady next to us dining by herself that stopped her dinner after two servings saying it was below her expectations. My prior experiences were wonderful, so at some point I'll return for one more time and hopefully just caught it on a bad night.

Shiro's reminded my of some of the high quality sushi restaurants I've been to in Japan. The quality, selection and service were all superb. If you are wanting to try sushi for the first time, I'd recommend Shiro's even though it's a bit pricey... you get what you pay for.

Very good entries are black cod and tempura. Nice dessert. Give a try, you will enjoy. I choose this place in the last day of me trip, I dont have a reservation and the restaurant is small. So lucky!

Overall would it here over and over. The fish quality is superb and that's what makes the sushi so amazing (rice isn't too shabby as well). I would rate this as one of the top Sushi I ate (Disclaimer : never been to Japan). The place itself looks nice, but I guess for the price it could use some more fine details in the service area. Overall enjoyed it and would come again.

I guess they were trying to turn tables but in the process brought us out check after we had only received the food we had ordered off the menu and none that we ordered on the piece of paper - shashimi. But the miso soup was good!

The place was packed on a Monday night, so we knew it would be good. Very fresh, very authentic. It is not the place for teriyaki, but for real sushi. Not cheap either, but good food and good service.

We had the eighteen piece chef selection and it was all excellent. I even had and enjoyed my first uni! The place was packed on a Tuesday night and we waited a little even with a reservation but it was well worth it. And I can see why they are so busy. They were packed with family, friends and lovers enjoying the delicious sushi and sashimi! I also finally found a saki I enjoy. Turns out cheap saki is not worth drinking.

We were unsure of sushi quality in Seattle. We were a bit skeptical since we've been to Japan many times. SHIROs is one of few that serves Tokyo style sushi. In other words, no fusion rolls but classic nigiri, sashimi cuts and well prepared rice. Selected 4 pts only because a few of our pieces were okay (no creamy, sweet fresh uni, stringy otoro). Consistency can be a challenge but it needs to be accomplished, especially when customers are paying premium for "the best". But our salmon kama order and desserts met the standard!

Due to a business trip I made up for missing VDay with this excellent Omakase dinner at Shiro’s. My daughters recommended it after going there earlier and they were spot on that this was the best sushi. We arrived on time and got seated at the sushi bar. The chef would not start serving until all the guests arrived. Once everyone was finally seated it took a little over 1.5 hours to go through the entire menu: 8 piece starter, grilled butter fish and 15 pieces of the freshest sushi. If you are able then try to sit at the side of the bar if you want a clear view of all the preparations. Presentation of our dinner was very nice. Our chef and his assistant did an excellent job of explaining every item served to us. More details than I can remember but it was informative especially about the different types of fish that we have not eaten as sushi before. I gained so much more appreciation for what I was eating. Some of the sushi that stood out for taste or having eaten it for the first time: Ishigaki Dai - A white fish with a nice flavor that could due to the fact that it likes to eat Uni. hirame flounder - was told it came from Korea. It had an interesting crunchy like texture. Amberjack - February was the peak season for this fish in Japan. Akami - center cut and lean part of a blue fin tuna. Not much fat and it was served with a little bit of Japanese mustard. Hokkaido sea urchin - It was a generous hand roll and such a clean taste that I will consider eating urchin again. Shima-Aji - Striped Jack topped with green onion and ponzu sauce Kama-Toro - Fattiest tuna that was cut right before serving and then seared to extract that fat flavors Kinmedai - another fish that was seared to bring out the flavors. Tachiuo beltfish - a white fish that was seared. Hokkaido Urchin - The hand roll was probably the best I’ve ever eaten. It was just melt in your mouth and very smooth so unlike any Uni I’ve eaten in the past. Definitely changed my mind about it. We were so stuffed afterwards. While the meal was pricey it was well worth it. We will be back again for sure.

Most likely one of the best sushi locations in the United States. Absolutely can't go wrong with the omakase!

Visiting Seattle and saw this wonderful place. We ate at the sushi bar and it was great. Traditionally you would tell the chef what you don’t like and they would bring you items until you were full. We weren’t that brave. Next time. Every item was superb. The service could not be better. Most seating is not at the sushi bar. Make a reservation. We were lucky to get in.

Missed this restaurant in May and came back from California to try it on a rainy Saturday in Seattle. The appetizers consisted of raw oyster(yummy), cooked eggplant with bonito shaving (good), the cooked salmon with mushroom and sauce (so,so), raw smoked fish (very tasty). Next the sashimi, this included three pieces of tuna (ok), two pieces of salmon (average) and two pieces of bonito (really outstanding soft and sweet, uname.) The pickled ginger was tender not too sweet and not too spicy. I ate it all, a rather big amount in a small bowl. Rated it one of the best I have had. Next came the three things of cooked entree. One small piece of quite raw scallop, hidden in a blackish some what sweetish sauce with panko on top. Great presentation but the combination Raste is not the best. The two pieces of fried eel bind together with seaweed and large piece of bamboo shoot. The bamboo shoot was crispy and fresh. Not sure about the sweetish sauce dripped over it. The cod was written up in the NYTimes as one of the dishes to order and was amazing amazing. May be my piece is small and a bigger piece for the whole appetizer May have been better. Also have some sweet marinate on the outside. I was getting full and had to put the fish and the eel aside. These three items were not my favorite. Then came the bonito soup with two crispy rice and potatoes cakes. Interesting. Next came the sushi. There were 7 pieces. I ate one before I took the photo. There was geoduck, sweet shrimp with a fried head that I ate first, wild hamachi (though all hamachi was wild and this one has a red half to it), special mackerel in season, a perch?, toro chopped wrapped in seaweed and fish eggs wrapped in seaweed. The geoduck was great. The hamachi, and one of the white fish was very smooth going down. All the pieces were extremely fresh. The toro was the last piece I ate. Wonderful. Left a great taste with me. Uname. Dessert was green tea ice cream with some dough wrapping, some strawberry sauce and two slides of strawberry. Great presentation. Would have been better just have a small scoop of ice cream. Or just leave the toro as my last taste in my mouth. Tummy is very full, walked back to hotel in pouring rain.

Omakase is a Japanese phrase that means "I'll leave it up to you" and the Shiro's Omakase tasting menu is a perfect opportunity to let the chef take the reigns. Four of us decided to try the Premium Sushi Omakase for a birthday celebration and it is divine! Each piece fresh and delicious. Highly recommend for a special occasion.

Go ahead and choose the Omakase option here. The chef's choices will not disappoint. The faves of the night were the Albacore belly, the Salmon with lemon salt, clam miso and seaweed salad. There was not a thing that we tasted that was not exceptional. This place is worth a trip to Seattle!

I had a guest coming into town from Toyko who has eaten at Jiro's in Tokyo Station, so I wanted to show off some of Seattle's best, and Shiro's didn't disappoint. He gave it a thumbs up. Made reservations a month ago for five of us. Tried to figure out a fixed menu with Yasuko - reservations and emails took awhile to get into a rhythm. We finally decided that it would just be easiest to order off the menu. Parking is on your own - some street parking if you're lucky. A couple of lots a block away. One oddity is that the front door looks normal, but it almost takes two people to open it! Budget wise, I would say Shiro's is not inexpensive, nor is it over the top expensive. I suppose you could go wild with omakase, but menu prices are not more than elsewhere, and some of these dishes are really top notch. Easiest to interact with servers in Japanese, as that is a first language for all the people we interfaced with, but their English was excellent as well. We treated the evening like a big izakaya - edamame, shishito, a chawanmushi that one in our party wanted to try, tempura, and a great cod karaage that was on the day's special. Everything served with nice presentation. Drinks were kept filled all evening (they serve a nice green iced tea). Nice selection of beer and sake. Then came a large sashimi platter, very fresh as you would expect, and several orders of the smaller sushi plate. I would have gone for the large tasting sushi plates for the table, but our guest didn't want to go all out. All in all a wonderful evening and what is one of the best sushi restaurants in Seattle.

This sushi was so fresh it was hard to stop ordering. Décor not much to write about but the food exceeded our expectation. Service was top of the line as well. I recommend this restaurant.

Shiro's has no doubt the best sushi in the game. Innovative, fresh beyond belief, and fun! Sit at the bar, order omakase, sit back, enjoy the party in the your mouth, and yummies in your bellies. 18 pieces later, miso cod, smoked tuna, sake, we were full and satisfied yet begging our stomachs to fit just one more piece. I can't wait to make the trip from the east coast to shiro's again, definitely not soon enough.

I ate at the sushi bar at the end of August (2016). I opted for the chef's choice and the experience was great. I really appreciated the japanese-style sushi! Good food with an on average service.

I actually didn't know about any of the story behind Shiro's. I did make a quick reservation just to be cautious, walked in on time, and was sat down with friendly smile. Service was excellent, the service nice and extremely helpful. We got a very well balanced range of dishes and was most impressed with the local sourced fish sashimi. I can easily say that everything is great as I tried a few dishes from each section of the menu. The fish is fresh and the options are wide. Kitchen food is great just as good and consistent. Price was on spot. My favorite take from the night: local catch (seattle fish, forgot the name) sashimi and toro flight. Itadakimas!

My husband and I tried to go Shiro's 18 years ago when we first started dating. It was closed that day. But we finally made it and it was delicious! Yes, it's a bit expensive, especially when you see that the nigiri prices are for one piece, not two. But my super-cheap husband had no qualms about paying for that dinner! We definitely tried things you don't normally see at other sushi restaurants and enjoyed some new tastes. We also ordered some of our regular favorites and weren't disappointed. The fish and seafood is SO fresh! My favorite was the Rainbow Roll and the sweet shrimp. We did not have reservations but got in line around 5:15pm and got a table when it opened on a Saturday night. I think the long waits are to sit at the bar which in my mind is a bit overrated. You can order everything that is available from the tables too. And if you're in the front dining room area you can still see what the chefs are doing. I think this is a great place for special occasions. Give it a try!

Managed to snag a seat at the sushi bar late on a weeknight at this justly renowned sushi restaurant in Seattle. I went with the omakase. The sushi chef gave me a dazzling array of fish, several rarely found outside the Pacific. The fish literally melts in your mouth.

Definitely some of the best sushi I have eaten so far in my life. It's worth paying for it because the quality of the sushi is excellent! :)

In Seattle we have many excellent Sushi restaurants to pick from. My husband and I hadn't been to Shiro's in many many years. Shiro sold this restaurant years ago and my fiends were unaware. They booked it thinking it was still owned by our locally famous sushi chef. We knew it wasn't his anymore but always look forward to a night of good sushi. There are many things to like about the fish at Shiro's. All of the fish is very fresh and served by professionals. I wouldn't hesitate to go back or recommend this restaurant.

This place does take out only for lunch; dinner can be take out or dine in (but only with a reservation). We did take out for lunch; ordered on line and it was ready at our specified pick up time. The sashimi was delicious -- perfect temperature, melt in your mouth tender. The nigiri were also good, but rather small. The soft shell crab roll was tasty, but not as good as the raw offerings. Everything was nicely presented, even though it was take out. Overall we enjoyed our lunch, but for the money it wasn't very filling. However, while in "fish land" (Seattle) we just had to try premium sushi. And this place was definitely better than Umi, which seemed to cover the flavor of its seafood with super-spicy seasonings.

I’ve been waiting for about two months to go to Shiro’s. It was good, not great. We both had sake and the premium sushi platter. While it was good, my spouse found a bone in one of the pieces of salmon. That is a rookie mistake. I’ve had supermarket sushi and never found a bone in it. Also, at 7:00 pm, they ran out of the sake we wanted. Another rookie mistake. We had several tasty pieces of sushi but, these two things that I mentioned were hard to overlook.

Best meal we had in our week long visit to Seattle. Pre-set 4-course, 19 nigiri sushi meal. Attentive waitress asks if you are right or left handed, so that the order of the sushi follows the menu and her introduction of each piece (noting which pieces would not benefit from soy sauce as already sauced or marinated). Absolutely lovely, start to finish. At $75 per person, it was a bargain compared to other omakase experiences. (BTW, the restaurant has minimal décor, but decently spaced tables.)

During our trip to Seattle and on Thanksgiving week, my son insisted to visit Shiro's due to high reviews from TripAdvisor. Due to the popularity of the restaurant, he had reserved a table for our family. The place is rather small but we were properly sit, thanks to the reservation. After looking at the menu and prices, I am a bit concern because the price is expensive: $4 - $5 per piece. I was hoping that it is better be good. My wife did not like Japanese food much so only ordered: Geoduck butter and soft shell crab. My son and his girl-friend had ordered only only his standard list: fat tuna, fat salmon, etc. but also everything on the Fishes from Japan special. The fish portion are small comparing to similar priced restaurants in San Francisco: however, the sushi rice is quite good. The rice is the focus of the sushi, not the fish according to some Sushi chefs. If that is the case, then the sushi here is quite good. The best part is that they have fishes directly from Japan and they are quite tasty. I don't think you can go wrong in this category: you either like or don't like. And all of us liked these fishes. In many sushi restaurants, you don't normally see a long list of fishes from Japan beside the standard tuna, smelts, salmon, etc. It was a good dinner with fishes that we don't normally get in regular sushi restaurants. Oh, btw the Geoduck Butter is quite good: it kind of melted in your mouth (sort of.) The bill of over $300 will hurt me for a few days.

This is my second time to this restaurant. First time wasn't impressed with their sashimi. And their service also average. Not calling them rude, but also didn't make you feel like they were friendly or sincere. This time, their sashimi was fantastic, could be timing or season. And the waiter is much better. Although I was kept to wait for an hour, it was well worth the wait.

Two big tips my fellow TripAdvisors: 1- Ask the waiter for recommendations, don't order for yourself. Trust me, they know what sushi is best for that day. 2- Get a reservation, otherwise you'll be waiting for a while. The sushi haunts my dreams, because I know I'll never get that good again. I was in Japan and this place tops that! The waiter was friendly and quick on his feet. He asked what sushi I preferred (salmon, tuna, white fish, squid... etc) and recommended some of the best sushi they had for that day. They inform you which order to eat in, and how each fish is prepared. If you are a little squimish about eating raw fish, they have cooked options too.

After reading such great things about this restaurant, we were looking forward to a great experience, However, we left feeling like that my meal was underwhelming and have had much, much better. There was nothing we ate that we were impressed by. Some of the fish did not even seem fresh, a few pieces we couldn't eat due to the smell. Service was slow, and they seemed to have overbooked the first seating. We had the earliest dinner reservation, got there early , and still had to wait. Others were taken before us and i hope that it was not because we had a child with us. Limited sake selection.

Had the pleasure of dining omakase style here. It was fabulous! Best sushi I have ever had. Chef Joe treated us like royalty! Very helpful with explanations of what we were getting and it's provenance. There were over 40 different kinds of fresh seafood available that night. The toro was exquisite. Geoduck clams may be a bit of an acquired taste and texture but when in Seattle-what are you going to do? Even though there were people waiting for our seats, we never felt rushed by the staff. I will definitely eat here again, next time I'm in Seattle!

Delicious. Loved everything. We had the $65 chefs choice. Great food and service. Decent wine list. Go there.

Very relaxed younger crowd. Servers were great, nice and attentive also very helpful. A little on the pricey side. Fish could NOT be fresher!!! One tip, sushi rolls are not their specialty and were average, stick with the sashimi and nigiri.

I heard that sushi (salmon specifically) is really good on Seattle/Washington since it's by the water. I found Shiro's on Yelp and it seemed like the perfect place to have some Seattle sushi - great reviews, close to our hotel, and reasonable prices. So I made a resso a few weeks ahead of time. We originally wanted to come here on Valentine's Day but the only seatings available were 5 pm and 9 pm. Instead, we decided to celebrate a day late on Saturday to get a more reasonable time. We both went with the Premium Sushi Course ($75 for 18 pieces and seasonal soup served over 5 courses), which is only available at the table. The courses were (1. Albacore, Sea bream, Flounder), (2. Sockeye, regular salmon with sweet onion, Salmon w salt and yuzu), (3. Amber jack, Geoduck, Botan, Yellowtail, Fried shrimp head), Soba noodles with shrimp tempura, (4. Fatty tuna otoro, Marinated tuna, Medium fatty tuna, Blue fin), and (5. Chopped fatty tuna, Ikura, Eel, Tamago). Most of the pieces were pretty unmemorable. The salmon was good but I've definitely had better. I was really looking forward to the tuna course since it's my fave, but it was disappointing. Most of the pieces had veins in them. My favorite piece was probably the fried shrimp head, which isn't saying much. Really didn't care for this omakase. But maybe I've been spoiled by all the omakase options in NYC.

Wonderful place, small restaurant as most sushi places in the city seem to be but we came here with reservations for family of 4. Loved the sushi as presentation was a big part of the meal. It was quite an experience. Would surely return for wonderful meal.

Shiro's is always an incredible experience. They know the fish and they are always well attuned to the tastes of their guests. Go for the omakase, or chat with the chefs - they will always steer you in the right direction.

Be sure to make a reservation, as this place is always packed. They have a sushi bar and numerous individual tables---we much prefer eating at a table in the front of the restaurant, as the room in the back feels a bit like outer Siberia. We will often order a few appetizers and then go with the sushi omakase--the chef usually sends out three different choices per person at a time--once you are full, the courses stop and you pay for what you have eaten. The fish is extremely fresh and of superior quality. In addition, you will get a greater level of diversity here than most other places. You are paying for the excellent product here---as the service is decent and the décor is minimalist. Check out my photos for more details.

Sushi lovers this is the one stop you have to go to in Seattle. Freshest fish you can get for your your hungry appetites. Chef cooks in front of you for a real experience visit this place is a must

We'd read really great things about Shiro's and were really excited about trying it! I will say it was good sushi... it just didn't quite live up to everything we'd heard. We both ordered the chef's selection of 10 pieces - good, traditional sushi selections. However, I can think of 3 or 4 other sushi places that were both less expensive and better tasting. You won't be disappointed by going with Shiro's, but it didn't quite live up to the expectations we had.

Looks like they are so famous and busy that the host at front treat you like they don't care if you come in or not The food was good and the service was very slow I forget my bag with my wallet and phone hanging on the chair arm... when we picked it up the next day the wallet with cash (around $600) was missing...the manager(Mister tiger) admit that they picked it up right when we left and even tried to run after us and then put it in their safe...so who took the wallet..very disappointing for such s famous restaurant

I don't have enough words to describe how good was the experience of the sushi bar. Sean and Kurisu were simply amazing. Please visit if you have the chance, you'll never forget.

My daughter and I thoroughly enjoyed Shiro's, we found everything to be perfect albeit on the pricier side of the Japanese restaurant scale. I would strongly recommend 2 dishes: their black cod dish was amazing (I don't like cod) and their dew drop dessert was unique and very tasty. The service was very good.

It is hard to find good Japanese restaurant outside of Japan. But I am happy to recommend Shiro. They have large Sushi bar, sushi chefs kept busy making Sushi and Sashimi. I was thinking about Omakase but I ordered individually so I can taste many dishes. Their signature dish Black cod was soft and tasty. You don’t need soy sauce. Sashimi Mori was fresh and enough to share with 3 people.Goma ohitashi is refreshing. Chawan mushi is my favourite dish and very difficult to find good one but it was so good. There is a “Uni” sea urchin from Hokkaido as today’s special. It was fresh and melt inside mouth.Don’t forget to leave room for dessert! We ordered 3 desserts. Parfait looked amazing and yummy. Wine list was not bad and reasonable. We had a Pinot Gris from WA Australia. Foods are so good and I felt like I was eating food in Japan. Reservation recommended which you can book 3 month prior to visit. If you love Japanese food and plan to visit in Seattle, I highly recommend!!

Had been at Shiro's a couple of times before, and it had been out-of-this-world good. Talked it up with colleagues of mine I went with, how great this place was, how fresh and tasty the sushi was, etc. Made the reservation for early evening and when we got there was already a line at the door. Promising. We promptly seated and service was very good and attentive. The food was different story, unfortunately. Had a mixture of dishes, including oysters, geoduck butter, seaweed salad, rolls, and sashimi. If the best dish is the seaweed salad and sashimi something is wrong. The rools were "meh", e.g. , geoduck was one the rubbery side, the fatty tuna was not buttery or flavorful, and the rice was dry-ish. Given that Shiro's is not cheap (we ended up paying $80 pp incl. a small carafe of sake and tip), this was a huge let down. Seattle has tons of great restaurants and I am not sure Shiro's is still one of them.

It was a quiet Sunday evening, & we walked several blocks from our hotel near the Space Needle. The weather was perfect. Shiro's was a delight from the first minute. We learned so much about sushi (and Seattle) from our wonderful server- he was sweet and informed about the various fish and was happy to make recommendations. We love sushi. This was special. We were inspired to try nearly their entire list of special sashimi offerings, & many other items on the menu -- just to learn about new fish and explore the offerings from the sushi chefs of this neighborhood gem. It was a wonderful experience! I can't praise it enough... Reservations are a good idea during peak season or holiday weeks, and groups over 4 should definitely call ahead.

We had a very pleasant evening and one of the best Japanese food experience. The Tuna tasting was very tasty, the fish imported from Japan were excellent. The service was very professional and added to this entire positive experience. Too bad we don't live in Seattle - we would definitely adopt this resturant as our favorite one!

visited Seattle for the first time and ate here twice in a span of 3 days; ate at the bar and at the table. The staff is attentive and friendly; the service is great; the wait is worth totally worth it; they don't rush you through the meal even though they are packed every night; the omakase is definitely worth it; the tuna tasting is melt in your mouth delicious it has all the amazing reviews for a reason. splurge and enjoy!
Sushi Heaven
We waited in line for the place to open but don't count on that. Make a reservation and plan to be overwhelmed with an awesome experience. We sat at the bar and let the Chef serve up his choice. Across the board the freshest and tasty Sushi was presented time and again. Wonder filled adventure in dining.
