Unfortunately, I wasn't able to dine here due to the disrespect and insulting ways of the hostess . I decided to dine here with a friend. We entered into the restaurant a gentleman approached us and asked did we need seating for 2. We replied yes. He told us to sit where we liked. We sat. The hostess abruptly approaches our table demanding that we need to ask her for permission before we sit any where in this establishment. We told her that the man behind her told us to sit where we like and she should not talk to us in this manner. She walked off uttering obscenities out of her mouth that was very offensive. Not to mention the atmosphere wasn't that great so I immediately got up and walked out. I decided to dine else where and be treated as a customer and not derelict. Unfortunately, the people who work here are gothic and we didn't fit the description so therefore we were discriminated against here. I advise anyone who is not gothic or minority don't dine here you are not welcomed.

We have been to Silk City 3 times now and we will be back! This isn't your Mother's diner. Silk City is a combination of Diner, Beer Garden, Lounge and amazing food. The chef is French trained and boy is he great. We haven't done breakfast yet but I'm sure we will. Don't let the look of the place stop you from

I went few times on Friday/Saturday night with friends to dance. Recently, I went there to have dinner on the terrace with my parents. It’s pretty nice! The atmosphere is great. The waitresses are very nice and attentive too. Portions are huuuuge, food is good, greasy but hey they serve American food what do you expect :D. The inside of the restaurant is very cute, very American style diner.

This is a fine diner with delicious food. It is a 1950's looking diner with amazing drinks too. They have an outside patio that is really creative and fun atmosphere. Great at night because they have string lights all over the patio. Service is always good and it is near Center City, Columbus Blvd and Piazza at Schmidts. They have a very cool dance lounge too to hang out and enjoy. For cool atmosphere, delicious food, great outdoor seating and fun bar - run to Silk City.

Our favorite place to meet during any season, but a GREAT PLACE in the warmer months when the outside serving area is open. SIlk City is a constant, since it was originally on 42 second street in the 80's. The atmosphere is informal and slightly eclectic. The staff is knowledgeable about the menu and are upbeat and friendly. The food is consistently delicious, and we all tend to order the same thing whenever we meet up. The beet salad, the cheese-fries, burgers are always excellent The specials are well thought out additions that have fresh ingredients that make for a delightful culinary experience. Parking in front of the diner is free, as is the parking around the corner and across the street is metered parking so it is relatively easy to find parking at any time. Silk City is also great for drinks and appetizers and we often meet here to start our evening. I've seen every kind of individual and group here and it's just one happy place! No reservations, so be sure to arrive a little bit earlier than you want to eat if you are a larger party.

We went to the Diner because of the 3D show and we were not disappointed! It was great. Delicious foods presented in different manners!

We eat here every weekend, with friends and without, and it never dissapoints! The burgers are insane but my favorite would be the grilled cheese and breakfast sandwich. If you are looking for a good greasy spoon this is the place!

Whenever I travel, I try to hit a joint or two visited by Guy Fieri from DDD. Silk City Diner did not disappoint! Before getting to the food, I need to share that this was the most "out there" setting for breakfast ever! My son and I ate in the Lounge area. Totally awesome! I couldn't escape the feeling that I might have been dining in what, in a past life, might have been a strip joint... Complete with velvet nude silhouette paintings on the walls. What a hoot! In fact, the whole place was so eclectically decorated, that this alone was worth stopping in! Now for the food! We ordered a maple pecan doughnut while waiting for breakfast. Amazing! Had at least half a pecan tree worth of nuts on it, and the inside of the doughnut can only be described as a soft doughier version of a cruller. Best I've ever had! My son ordered biscuits and gravy with two eggs on the side, and I had the pulled pork hash and eggs with greens. Excellent! My son and I agreed, no matter how you compared our meals, they were simply the best! Texture, taste, freshness of ingredients, portions... Off the charts in every way. I wish we lived closer so we could become regulars! One final note... A huge shout out to the staff. I'm sorry I cant remember her name, but our waitress was awesome, as were all the folks we talked with. Thanks for helping to make our trip so memorable!

Silk City is always a favorite go to spot for my sister and I after work. I've been vegetarian for years and recently went vegan so my last trip was a bit more complicated. My sister gets the buffalo chicken salad almost everytime substituting the thai chili glaze for the buffalo sauce and loves it. A favorite of mine is the grilled cheese but more recently opted for the silk salad since it accommedated to the my vegan diet. Other GREAT choices are the cheese fries and mac and cheese. Some of the best. Try a Purple Rain! Best drink they have.

Ordered the chicken fried steak and eggs. The potatoes and eggs were good the chicken fried steak was no good. I will not be back. Also my coworker ordered chili which neither looked smelled or tasted like chili. Prices are high for low quality food.

All of our experiences have been good here. The menu is so varied, it's hard to find just one thing to try. I had a special burger that was served with fresh cut fries and it was so good. My husband had a shrimp burger and he said it was amazing. The food is always good. The atmosphere is a little cramped, but that's what you expect for going to a diner.

My husband and I ate here yesterday before we went to a show at the Electric Factory (which was a short walk away) and we were very pleased with the experience. We both ordered the angus burgers and they were absolutely delicious. I also wanted to give extra points that the toppings for the burger were great on their own; I often find that a lot of restaurants rely on the toppings to improve the burger, but tat none of the individual ingredients are that great on their own. Specifically we were impressed with the pickled red onion and the mushrooms that we had on our burgers (those mushrooms were so well seasoned on their own, I made sure to put any that fell off my burger right back on!). The french fries that came with the burgers were also great. Great service, good prices, really couldn't have asked for more! Will definitely revisit if we're back in the area!

Just WOW! Everything was delicious. Brussel sprouts, empanadas, Mac and cheese, Thai wings, fresh cut fries. I’m hungry just writing this!! Try it ALL!

Service was not very good. Took forever to order, never did get our straws we asked for. Food was ok, but sort of cold when it came out. Was a bit disappointed.

my wife and I dined outdoors, the furniture was painted different colors and designed not to be standard or cookie cutter. I never tried chicken and waffles before the silk diner, the slightly sweet of the waffles went well with the tasty chicken. we had an issue with our bill charged to my debit card, the manager handled it quickly after we got home from our trip to philadelphia. highly recommend the bloody margarita, very peppery.

I stopped for brunch visiting family on Sunday. I ordered the most amazing creme brulee french toast I have ever had! The french toast was topped with mascapone cheese, blueberries, and maple syrup. Fantastic. Great service. Great coffee. Sort of an interesting retro look inside and outside.

Paid this gem a visit during our drive from NYC to Washington DC and it was well worth the detour. We had the chicken sandwich and a pulled pork burger, both delicious. For us the portions where quite big but that seems to be the case in America over all. The restaurant style itself is also cool.

Went there after seeing it on Diners, Drive-ins and Dives. Typical old style diner but with cocktails! Had a pink panther martini- strawberry. Tasted great but didn't seem like much alcohol. Had two. $7each. Hubby had a crown royal manhattan- also $7' which was surprising. Started with Thai chicken wings and macaroni and cheese with bacon for two couples to share. Yum on both items. Two of us had meatloaf which is served with mashed potatoes, peas & carrots. Meat loaf is wrapped in bacon! It was around $17. I had buttermilk fried chicken, also served with mashed potatoes (which could've been hotter) and collard greens. Chicken was delicious and sweet like a honey taste. It also came with a honey jalapeño corn muffin. Was $17. Other diner had a grilled chicken sandwich which has long hots, broccoli rabe, prosciutto on a ciabatta roll and is served with fries. Diner compained that their mouth was on fire. For dessert, we shared the dessert du jour which was vanilla creme brûlée topped with lots lof powdered sugar- interesting and chocolate banana bread pudding. Both were good. Service was pretty good. We got there around 5ish on a Thursday before the place filled up. There was a wait when we left. Bathrooms were older but clean and unisex. Bill was $140 and included 7 cocktails for the four of us. Would return!

The place maybe in an old diner but the food is awesome. Not your typical dinner food. Way more upscale. I can not tell you how good it was as you need to see for yourself. Service was good and the place has a through back setting to it. Prices were good for what you are getting. This place was better than I expected. Jerry Ehrlich from the Great City of Philadelphia

This is a staple stop for my family on the weekends. Smaller venue, unless they open the bar area, or weather is good enough to sit on the patio. Specials are seasonal, and -SO- good; it's hit-or-miss whether they run out or not, so we always ask first what's still available before falling in love with any of the food descriptions. What's hot right now? Smoked Turkey Eggs Benedict. I kid you not, this was life changing. Standard poached egg, nestled atop smoked turkey and corn bread. There was a smokiness to the hollandaise... I'm drooling as I type this. I've yet to order something I -didn't- like.

We went two nights in a row. First night we ate light and had the tomato soup and beef stew which were fabulous. Now, when went back the next night that blew us away....we had the meatloaf (holy cow Batman) and the salmon over the shrimp fried rice (shut the front door!!)and a side a of the most amazing collard greens, all phenomenal to say the least. We will surely return when we are back in Philly.

After going to the Edgar Allen Poe National Historic Site we stopped in here for a beverage before continuing on our long walk. The garden appears cute at first glance until you look closer and realize everything is overgrown and needs to be trimmed. All their yard gnomes and other statues are hidden in the grass. The service sucked - we wanted to sit in the back corner which meant the waitress would have to walk a little further away from her other tables. After she gave us our drinks she never came back to check on us , and we were sitting around forever for the the check. We had to walk up to her and hand her our credit card to pay since she would make eye contact with us and deliberately not come back. As for our mixed drinks they were just ok, and little too sweet for my liking. The food looked good, but there is no way I am going back to try it after that experience.

First of all, I saw this place on Diners, drive-ins, and dives. I was in town for a convention and I decided I had to try it, some my committee members and I did. The cocktails were very inventive and excellent. The food was better. I had the fried chicken with collard greens. The chicken was tender and juicy and surprisingly sweet. Probably the best fried chicken I have ever had. I highly recommend this place.

The inside looks like a traditional diner, but we sat on the outside patio which has a really nice atmosphere. The food and service were great, and the prices were reasonable. We really liked the patio vibe and stayed after dinner for a few more drinks. This is a good option for outdoor food/drinks on a nice day.

I just happened to be heading out from the airport to spend a weekend with friends and realized I was just starving. I hadn't been to Philly for years (although it is my birthplace and I spent my first sixteen years of life there). I remembered seeing this place on an episode of Diners Drive-Ins and Dives and had eaten there years ago. I wondered whether the food was still great. So I mosied in and sat down. Quick, courteous service and good recommendations from the staff. I had an amazing sald with beets so fresh they could have smacked me! My dinner was crab cakes, a long-standing favorite. They were even better than I remembered, served with a veggie and potato. Wish I had saved room for dessert, but alas I had a late-night water-ice and soft-pretzel run (to our local Rita's) in mind so I figured I better save room!

Grabbed a seat at the counter. Was eating solo. Parking out front or across the street. Don't forget to feed the meters. Two quarters will cover an hour. The staff was very helpful. The inside is eclectic in decorations. The bartender was very friendly and explained what they had on special, both food and liquid refreshments. Soup was good, could have been hotter. Had the Shrimp and Grits. Food came out quickly and was very good. In honor of Roger Ebert, two thumbs up.

I had passed this "diner" on several occasions on my way home from work. I'd always look at the outside, because, well - it stands out from its surroundings. As an avid Diners, Drive-Ins and Dives watcher on Food Network, I saw this location featured, and it peaked my attention. I was NOT disappointed. The menu is seasonal, lending credibility to the freshness of their ingredients. The flavor combinations are AMAZING. The location has a diner feel, and the items on the menu are more like diner meets fine dining as you can still order "burgers and pancakes" but it is NOT your ordinary "burgers and pancakes" -- you have to try it to fully understand. When the weather is nice, my children ASK to go to this location SPECIFICALLY to sit on the outdoor patio. Service is hit or miss, but the food makes up for it. LOVE. THIS. PLACE.

Food was excellent. Place was super kitschy. Fun vibe and only a few blocks from Edgar Allen Poe’s house and museum. Makes for a fun afternoon!!

While this place looks like a diner, there's a real chef hiding on the kitchen! Delicious, imaginative and well-prepared food served by attentive staff means we'll be back and bring friends. We started with fried green tomatoes (sensational; crisp and a little spicy) and biscuits (outstanding!), main courses of cider braised pork hash with sweet potatoes and the frisée salad (both topped with poached eggs). These define to me what brunch dishes should be. And the barkeep likes to play with his food, too: Breakfast in a Glass, with maple-bacon infused vodka and OJ, is quite an achievement. Don't miss this spot when you're in center city!

I went here based on the reviews from Guy Fieri's show on Food Network. I was a little skeptical at first because of the looks but forget the saying first impression is the last. Uh uh My girlfriends and I got there for brunch and spent almost 20 minutes deciding what to get because everything looked so good. I got the chicken and waffles which were AMAZING. The andouille sausage gravy gave it a kick and the corn puree calmed it back down. We sat outside and felt so comfortable that we were there til they started preparing for dinner (4 hours) and didn't get kicked out. The service is great too. I'd definitely suggest eating here if you're ever in Philly looking for someplace off the beaten path.

Friendly staff, delicious food, interesting drinks. I keep coming back to this place it's never exactly the same - but always delicious. Such positive energy. It's just good to be here.

Went here for their wings and cheese fries and wasn't disappointed. First, got their Thai wings and they tasted awesome. Perfect crisp- perfect taste. Second, got their cheese fries and the portion they gave us was big and delicious. Third, the waitress was great. The only problem was the hostess. We were added to the waiting list and she gave someone who came in after us a booth.

A more food oriented venue brought to you by the owners of Frankey Bradley’s and N 3rd. A more extensive menu of food than its counterparts but of the same quality and consistency all served by a friendly and eclectic staff. Full beverage service on premises for lunch and dinner during the day where after dinner it morphs into a bar club venue till the wee hours.

Whenever we are in the city (hungry) we know we can stop by Silk City and get something good. I love that their specials change frequently, and match the seasonal produce, so you know you are getting something fresh. Stopped by this weekend, and had a nice brunch on the patio. Each table has it's own umbrella, so you can get shade from the sun and still enjoy the outdoors. Kids devoured the Silk Angus Burger, I enjoyed the fish tacos (doesn't come with sides, so if tend to need more than 2 tacos, check out their appetizers/sides), and my husband had the Breakfast Sandwich (which sounds basic, but is fancy in its own right). We can't go without having the Thai chicken wings - something about the sauce is addictive! Great selection of drinks, warm/helpful staff, and tis the season to eat outside while you can.

Okay - great breakfasts should be easy to find. But for a displaced southern gal living just outside Philly finding edible grits, buttermilk biscuits and yummy brunch cocktails has been a struggle. The struggle is over. The eclectic decor of the Silk City Diner simply adds to the fun. Had the very best steak & eggs of my life - served with stuffed hash browns and silky over easy eggs. My sweetie ordered a side of cheddar cheese grits and a homemade biscuit. The grits were ooey-gooey delicious. The biscuit was a tad crusty but the inside was flaky and tender. Had the breakfast cocktail of the day - Good Morning Sunshine - which was the perfect way to start the day. We'll be back!

Great food, funky atmosphere, very good service and excellent Bloody Marys. My husband had the Pork belly hash, I had the country fried steak. Biscuits: heavenly. Only comment is that the grits very a bit too tight. Could be creamier. This place fills up quickly for brunch. Got there right at 10AM, so no problem getting a table. Free parking on Street right outside.

Fried chicken and meatloaf were really good. The pierogis were outstanding! A cool retro diner cum hipster nightclub vibe.

This place never fails to put a smile on your lips...between the fun atmosphere, upbeat servers, eclectic patrons and consistently good food, you can't go wrong at this place. Loud DJ music after 9 on weekends, so lots of to tapping and maybe a bit of mixing it up on the dance floor in the adjacent club. Serves until 1am, so late weekend nights are fun.

Amazing food - fresh ingredients cooked to perfection!! Try the specials, definitely the best salad and the veggie wings! A real find, and just off I95!!

We've been to the Silk City Diner twice now and both were good experiences. This is a great place to go for something more than your average diner brunch. Then menu is varied and interesting and there are usually some specials too. We had fried green tomatoes as a starter on our first visit and asked for them again. Unfortunately, the waitress came back and told us they had run out, but instead they gave us two of their gorgeous orange and ricotta Danish pastries on the house. Great service! Eggs Benedict is pretty ubiquitous, but in many places the Hollandaise sauce comes out of a can or a packet - not so here. Best Sunday brunch location we've found in Philadelphia and it will definitely become our regular. One word of caution: the lounge seating area is decorated with some interesting paintings which may not be suitable for children. However, you can always ask to be seated in the diner.

Excellent, varied menu. Certainly not 'diner' food. Had salmon with shrimp and ginger rice, chicken sandwich, skirt steak and roast beef sandwich among the four of us. All were excellent - we were all sharing and tasting each other's plates. Oh and the mac and cheese appetizer was worth it...but could have been a meal unto itself - share it. And the prices were reasonable - not cheap but good. Well worth it.

The huevos rancheros were phenomenal. I kept eating them until my whole body hurt. Holy hell. Everyone else at my table had other things that they enjoyed, but I barely had time to ask in between scarfing down my meal. My drink (something with gin and a lemon peel) smelled delicious (because of the aforementioned lemon peel) but tasted just ok (I don't always love gin drinks, so my dissatisfaction might be my own fault). Other than that, the service was great and the food I could obviously rave about for weeks, so it's safe to say I'll be back again for brunch soon.

Although this restaurant isn't in the most scenic part of the city, I'm glad we were able to enjoy dinner here the other night. We were lucky enough to get a spot on the patio, and we quickly realized that it was the spot to be on a Friday night after work. I ordered a Tuna burger, and a pitcher of white wine sangria (we had a bit of time to waste), and have no complaints whatsoever. The music wasn't obnoxious, and the server wasn't either - highly recommended if you're looking for a casual meal with a side of people watching!

Delicious food, nice staff would recommend to everyone. But be aware that they add 20% gratuity. Later when checking my receipt I realized that they must have been quite happy with the 25% I added on top on that. They should make that known as it is not normally done where I am from. Oh well, at least the food was good!

You have to try the chili, it is awesome! But bfreakfast is also fun at this quirky little diner attached to a "disco". It is on the southern edge of the Northern Liberties neighborhood and worth a visit.

All was wonderful including the wait staff. 3 of us each found the menu and the selections chosen exceeding our expectations. A bit of history for those who do not know: Paterson NJ is called Silk City because of the silk mills and where the Diners were first made therefore for some of us from NJ we found the authenticity of the diner comforting and nostalgic. I can't wait to go back again. I had shrimp and grits and loved, loved, loved it!

what a fun place! We ate here before a concert at the nearby Electric Factory - food was awesome. It's got a full bar with some unique special cocktails - try the Jaded Ruby! For dinner I had fried chicken - totally not something I'd normally order but it came highly recommended and I was not disappointed. The whole menu looks great, every time food comes out of the kitchen you find yourself wondering "hey, maybe I should've ordered THAT!" It all looks so good. the only downside is that it's a tiny little place (its a converted diner car so it's authentic, just small) and the bathrooms are unisex (although they don't indicate that, you have to sit there wondering which is which until you realize they're both) and they are really small and not super clean. Overall though a great place for a quick, inexpensive bite that's much more than just your typical philly cheesesteak.

My college aged son and his girlfriend met me here after a friend recommended. Had a bit of everything, thai noodle bowl, cheesteak egg rolls and something else that was also good. Had a great time. Not "fantastic" food but defiantly better than most.

We wanted to try a place that was different and fun. We looked up the Food Network places visited by Guy F. And Silk City came up. The ambiance was fantastic and the food was fresh and huge portions.... the price was very reasonable. Street parking was too hard to find either.

I love Silk City, I like the vibe, the waitstaff, the feel and the food. Seems like every item on the menu is something that you recognize but has a Silk City slant that is wonderful and delicious. There is always great music going and by the time the waiter or waitress stops by your table for a second time you feel like your old friends. People from all walks of life stop by this joint for good reason, it's a good time. Our latest dishes when we stopped by last were the following, Pork Belly Empanadas (dish one). Crisped pastry on the outside, succulent on the inside with tender, tasty piggy belly on the inside and if you dare to get your food swirl on with the sauced garnish, only heaven awaits. Well blended meal. The Seafood Gumbo (dish two) was presented with the crawfish still in the shell which made for great presentation, but I hate to pick at my food, but If you do and you should, you'll be rewarded as the Crawfish are tasty little buggers, the Andouille Sausage is fresh and the meal well done but overly spiced. Silk City any time you want to turn up the heat on the Gumbo, go right ahead. And last but not least, Shrimp and Grits. I have had this dish many places, many different ways and Silk's version is a player. With this dish you HAVE to make the all the elements (grits, shrimp, runny egg, sauce, Tasso Ham) battle for space on your fork, trust on me this and you my friend will be greeted with food nirvana. Each ingredient of this meal left on it's own is sullen and introverted, they want to party but won't get off the wall. Put them all together and there's a RAVE in your mouth, they find their groove. Always better than you expect at Silk City, it's a happy place on a lot of levels. Beer selection is deep with some great regional favorites, pair wisely and enjoy.

Went to AC to see Madonna. Ate here on the way back to PA. Have heard about Silk City and it came up on our Diners, Driveins, Dives App. Went on Sun AM. Sat at the counter. Looked neat in the outside seating. Awesome variety of drinks, had their homemade ice tea, hubby had a beer. Going to try a bloody mary next time. Saw them making up dirnks and all looked great. Had a fig muffin and a house special-sorry forget the name, that had tortilla stack with fixings and hubby had a meat plate. Everything was VERY good. Not diner food-definately a step up. Waiters all Super and knowledgable. Go to the bathroom and check out the sign for girls/guys! Thanks for a terrific breakfast!

Silk City had a diner area with a pretty outdoor area as well. The music and food are always good. Whether you're in the mood for low key drinks, or dancing all night, Silk City is the place to go!

The best place in Philly to go for Brunch. Creative menu, and the food tastes as good as it is described on the menu. Friendly fast service, but never make you feel rushed. We go for brunch any chance we get, in the Spring and Summer enjoy sitting outside. This place was featured on Diners, Drive Ins, and Dives, though unlike so many other restaurants featured on the show, they have never let it go to their heads or prices!

The only dislike was a few bothersome flies but food was excellent. Mac and cheese was yummy, fried chicken excellent and meatloaf better than mom's.

We went to this place since it was on the show on Food Network. We really enjoyed it! There was not a kids menu, but they had mac and cheese - so it was fine for our toddler. We sat outside and enjoyed the evening. The portions are HUGE and there are lots of things to see outside. It was fun and a very reasonable place to dine!

Although I would have liked a less eggy/brunch menu at lunch time, I was wowed by the deceptively simply named 'shrimp and grits.' which included andouille sausage and shrimp jus, along with broiled shrimp and grits. Excellent creation.

We picked the Silk City Diner because we saw it on Diners, Drive-Ins and Dives. We have been to other Triple D restaurants that have been horrible like Melt Bar & Grilled in Cleveland. The Silk City Diner renewed our faith in Triple D and Guy Fieri. It's a cool little joint with a nice, eclectic patio. The wait staff is friendly and attentive. The food was awesome. My husband had their famous fried Chicken which was a sweet and spicy twist on traditional fried chicken. I had the burger with goat cheese. They have some really interesting choices on their menu. We will be back to try them!

this used to be a straight diner according to my friend whose dad took him here 50 years ago..now it is a diner, bar, club at night but we were there for sunday brunch. Waited 10 minutes for a table (they dont take reservations) and apart from the waitress being beautiful, the food was excellent. I had hash, my wife had chicken and waffles our friends had omelettes. The place was real busy and was loud but nevertheless the brunch was excellent. Not fancy, but good...

I was very impressed in how well run and organized the diner was. There is a great selection of food on the menu, and has something for everyone. The french fries are delicious! All of our orders exceeded our expectations. There were some vegan, vegetarian choices and some unique offerings. The service was good and so is the price point. I would definitely return.

Eat here all the time. One of our goto restaurants. Always good food with variety. A diner, but a huge step above.

Didn't leave a crumb on my plate. Mac and cheese with garlic toast crumbs was scrumptious! The pork medallions with dressing and brussel sprouts couldn't be better. loved the atmosphere!

I was visiting the Edgar Allan Poe historical site today and they close from 12 to 1 p.m. I wasn't finished with my time at the museum so I asked about a good place to eat and the park ranger on duty suggested the Silk City Diner. I am so glad I went when I did because the place was so busy. Being a solo diner I got seated with no problem at all. My waitress Maura was friendly and patient with me as I took my time deciding what to order. I noticed they had brunch today and indulged to that end. I had the Spring Prosciutto omelet and it came with a side of potatoes, peppers and onions. I also had a pomegranate mimosa to cleanse my palate. The food came quick and hot. Maura kept checking on me despite how busy it was. While I waited to pay my check I had a very pleasant conversation with the manger who took the time to give me some information on the Silk City bar next door and the entertainment they have. He thanked me for coming in and added he was happy I did. I was equally pleased.

This was my first time in Philly, and we stopped here to get something to eat before a concert at the Electric Factory, which is in walking distance, and it was great. I got the Turkey BLT and it was amazing. The beer selection was good enough that I didn't even mind when the keg kicked on me. I highly recommend this place if you're looking for somewhere quick to eat.

The food is not your typical diner fare. We were here for dinner and decided to waited for a table in the actual diner section. The hostess was friendly as were the rest of the staff. the portions were worth the $$. We each ordered a different meal and shared. The Shrimp & House Made Fettuccine was the best! The Kabayaki Glazed Salmon was also very tasty also. The Meatloaf was also fantasic. Next time in town will try breakfast.

My son and I had brunch here on a whim. I was pleasantly surprised to find good vegetarian options on the menu and food prepared as well as any eatery I've been to, with quality ingredients. The soup special was so good (smoked chicken and mushroom) that we ordered a second serving. And the potatoes that came with my tofu scramble were perfect - fried until crispy, as I've never been able to get anywhere but my own home! I see other reviews that complain about the quality of food and the service, but we found both to be top-notch. A great value, too. Will definitely return there often.

One of my regular choices when heading into "the city". Mac and cheese is awesome. The family has tried just about everything on the menu over the years and we haven't been disappointed yet. Nicely stocked bar for such a cozy place. The old dining car facade in the city creates a cool vibe. And the outdoor dining offers much appreciated additional seating, and is always hopping, in the warmer weather.

Had a late lunch at this little gem in Philly. Great outdoor patio are. Limited menu from 3:30 to 5 but the food was very good

Beautiful place and had a great time but watch out for the bartender charge me 12 dollars for a long Island...the second one was 14...smh

Do not be fooled by the name: there is nothing dinerish about the food here. The food is unique, flavorful, and cooked perfectly. I've ordered at least 5 different things over the years (for both brunch and dinner), and everything has been incredible so there is not a weak part to the menu. It's fairly large with a great outdoor area, usually has a young crowd, and has a funky and artsy interior. Service is also excellent, there is free parking nearby, and is only a few blocks from the Spring Garden El stop. Highly recommend!

This place is IT. Pork belly hash for bfast is ridiculously good. I dream about it. Everything at this place is well executed. You will not be disappointed. Go! Go! Go!

This place is so cute, and has great drinks and food. We had brunch and ordered the mimosas and pancakes which were good. They were out of the mac n cheese biscuits with gravy so I'll have to try that next time. Also had chicken, mac and cheese, and mashed for dinner there and the portion was huge-more than enough for two people to split. Also got the coconut drink with rum which was good. The place is too adorable!

For the last 4 years I have been living within walking distance from this diner! I never thought about going there. I have always heard great things about their wings. My Friends decided to go 2 brunch 1 afternoon within walking distance. I susgested Silk Citt & boy ole boy was I satisfied. The food was amazing & so was the pomergranite mimosa.

Huevos rancheros were tasty with guac and pico. The croissant french toast has sweet strawberry jam. Fries were addicting! Would highly recommend for brunch if you love the Beatles' music.

We happened upon this place while waiting for the Edgar Allen Poe site to reopen. We were glad we came in for lunch. I had the grilled chicken and it was still hot from the grill when I got the meal. The waitress was friendly and quick with the food. The music playing in the diner was perfect.

We stopped in at the Silk City Diner on Easter Sunday. What a great place... The decor, the wait staff and most importantly the food. You will not be disappointed... We had the huevos rancheros, the chocolate pancakes, the belgium waffle with ice cream and fruit, and a porkchop dish. The only thing that was left was a little bit of the pancakes because no one was able to finish them. If you are in Philly and have any doubts... You must visit this place. My personal favorite was the huevos rancheros...

My wife and 2 teenagers decided to spend the weekend in Philly as we had never been there before. As usual my wife makes all the plans and never fails on the eating spots when we travel. The kids had standard diner breakfast fare and they enjoyed it. My wife raved about the chicken and waffles but I decided on the Cider braised pork belly hash with sweet potatoes. Light, not greasy, tender, and sooooo delicious. The service was good, friendly, and knowledgeable. It was our last stop before heading home. Smiles all the way. Thanks Silk City.

Stopped by here for a drink after visiting Yards brewing across the street, which closed at 10pm. The staff could not have been nicer. If I looked that good I'd be pretentious af. I had a Rosemary gin fizz, which has cucumber, rosemary syrup, and lemon. Other drink names include Purple Rain and Yacht Rock. I hope to come back for brunch because Creme Brulee French Toast sounds delicious. This was all against the backdrop of a re-modeled dining car with reddish lightbulbs inside, eclectic knickknacks, & Matchbox 20 & TLC.

Great mix of over 30 crowd on the dance floor. Good mix of music. Great bartenders. Would definitely go back.

We were in Silk City for Dinner. Had a good chicken sandwich and delicious chicken wings. The homemade lemonade was awesome.

we decided to come here because one of our co-worker is a huge DDD fan and this place caught her attention while watching an episode...so we granted her wish! this was my first DINER experience ever and i fell in love with the place. the staff were very friendly and accommodating. fast service and attentive. food was amazing...my favorite were the fries! OMG! a shout out to our waiter Jake. he was GREAT.

Friend had excellent brunch special scrambled eggs with sausage patties. Mimosa luscious. My Bloody mary was perfect! My fruit selection fresh, lovely & welcome change from holiday "heavies". Great friendly service. Surprised at short wait.

Super great food!! We were visiting friends and they stated we had to eat here. They are Philly residents. We had the shrimp burger, fried chicken, spicy chicken sandwich and hamburger. The jalapeno corn muffins are delicious. All of the food was excellent. The dessert was homemade ice cream and warmed apple pie. We all needed to be rolled out due to being so stuffed. The atmosphere is great. The setting is inside and old diner car or an outside patio.

We just stopped in at random. Service was excellent and the croissant French toast was the best we have ever had. The French fries are cut in house and we’re wonderful. There was a mistake in my order - I had half the burger when we sent it back to be cooked a little more - but they brought back a full new order! And a full bar to boot! Comfortable, low-key - treat yourself to the Hank’s root beer!

Family of four had a fantastic lunch at Silk City Diner this past weekend. Went out of our way to find the place because my foodie teenager wanted to go here (based on a "Diners, Drive-ins and Dives" feature). Food was awesome. Atmosphere was fun and funky and the place was hopping. Had the option to eat outside or in. (We chose inside since the weather was a bit nippy, but there were propane heaters for those sitting outside.) The meals we had included: the grilled eggplant sandwich (w/ red onion, roasted peppers, mozzarella, arugula, and pesto on a really delicious, slightly crunchy ciabatta roll); grilled chicken sandwich (w/ provolone, prosciutto, broccoli rabe, long hots, and pesto, also on ciabatta); steak and eggs; and the "cider braised pork hash" which was pork with sweet potatoes which was sweet and delicious. HIGHLY recommend this place.

Walked in and immediately loved the funky decor. Place was packed and busy but we were seated within 5 minutes. Waitstaff was very friendly. Our food arrived quickly which surprised us all. And it tasted wonderful. Everyone couldn’t get over how good it was. This is a MUST if you are in the area.

Busy place with interesting decor. Good Service. Top notch Bloody Mary and Fried Green Tomatoes. Chicken wings were just so-so.

Hubby and I had seen Silk City on 'DDD' and thought we'd give it a try. We went one Sunday for brunch expecting an amazing meal. We wanted red velvet pancakes--out of them. (How hard is it to mix up batter?). We wanted a chicken dish--gone. We found some things that were available and although tasty, were not better than our local NJ diners. We had a bit of a wait to get in but we were the only people on line. The waiting area used broken crockery in a creative way bit was small and shabby. We'd give it another try IF we happened to be driving by, but would not make a special trip again to this establishment.

Wifey and I decided to give this triple D reviewed diner a try and we weren't disappointed. I guess if I had to say what is most important or what I like about a restaurant in doing a review for TA I'd say its quality of food (including preparation) and service. Silk City, for a diner exceeded my expectations in both categories. We arrived at opening (10am) and were seated along with a flock of faithful s and newbies. The diner has a lounge area where live entertainment in the evenings is available the Doubles for dining and the traditional diner that I think dates back to the 50s. We chose the diner area which was full. We were immediately greeted by our server offered coffee and water and the menu. So the first thing I noticed was the coffee, not the strainer diluted make in a 55 gallon drum stuff, but coffee that actually had some body and taste a la a light French Roast. Our servers were on there game, front staff kept people moving through the diner waiters, esses, took care of the table and the kitchen brought the orders, piping hot ready to go. Nicely done. The menu selections were unique, traditional offerings, omelette, pancakes , waffles, grits, and a fruit and granola selection, but many with a twist, eg ham eggs with a collard green roumalade, pancakes with a lemon ricotta, French toast with pear and apple, pork belly hash......you get the idea. We had the southern country breakfast and the French toast. Both were wonderful, solid, homemade, comfort, tummy stuffers. I had some squash soup too to start which was perfect. Bottom line way to much food for two...again. Service was great, great. There was never a moment when we felt like we ever needed water or coffee and it wasn't there, or just to ask a question. In the end it is a very, very, good diner with a creative chef and staff willing to please. Give them a try.

Visited with family and friends for Sunday brunch and was impressed with the unique menu. Located in an artsy neighborhood on the edge of center city, the ambiance is "alternative" and casual. My lemon ricotta pancakes with blueberry compote were delicious and my Bloody Mary perfectly seasoned. Another member of my party had short ribs that melted in your mouth served with eggs over easy. I had menu envy. The drink menu was as interesting as the food, even offering Pims cup to the delight of the British member of my party. Will go again!

We wanted a good diner for breakfast so we decided to give Silk City a try, very happy we did. Got there just before they filled up. Sat down right away and had very attentive waitress. I ordered the Pork Belly hash, wife ordered the Huevos Rancheo and daughter ordered the Banana Chocolate Pancakes. I tasted all 3 and was very impressed with them all. Huge portions. Wife also had a good Bloody Mary. Will definitely be back for breakfast on our next stop to Philly.

Great place to take the family for Mother's Day brunch. Even though the outside seating is limited the staff always makes accommodations and is courteous and the food is original and very good.

Stopped by here Saturday around 3PM for lunch outside on a beautiful day. However! When you are just sitting there waiting for food, the sun gets REALLY hot and the umbrella over our table was not shading anything. We were quickly seated outside where there were 2 or 3 open tables but by the time we were leaving there were a lot of open tables so 4ish would be a better time to come. The boyfriend had the Grilled Chicken Sandwich $12 (prosciutto, sharp provolone, broccoli rabe, long hots, basil pesto mayo, ciabatta) and enjoyed it. I had the Smoked Salmon Benedict $12 (house cured salmon, sautéed spinach, toasted english muffin, dill hollandaise, roasted potatoes) that was pretty good. The hollandaise sauce was a bit too creamy for me but overall the dish was good. The english muffin was nicely toasted and the salmon was good. It also came with a thin slice of melon that the boyfriend took. Our waitress was hard to get a hold of by the end but other than that, she was nice. Might be back since the location is pretty convenient and having the option of a big outdoor seating or nice indoor seating is nice.

They now have a beautiful outside dining area to go along with the great food and a few good local brew selections.Silk City is a consistent performer we have been here many times and are never disappointed, good specials with great flare for out of the ordinary.Besides the entree's, you should try the backed mac, french onion soup, corn bread all are extremely good.

My wife and I had an early dinner here prior to attending a concert in Philly. What a great experience! The interior is fun and classic diner atmosphere, but they also have a cool outdoor patio. We sat inside. The wait staff were very friendly and helpful in choosing menu items. I had the salmon and my wife had the rainbow trout. Both were excellent! Nice pacing on the meal told me they were doing real cooking back there. If we are back in Philly we will return!

Silk City Diner is an absolute must-visit in Philadelphia. As someone visiting from Canada, I can confidently say this diner alone is worth the trip. The food, the service, and the atmosphere were all incredible. The chicken wings were crispy, perfectly seasoned, and absolutely delicious. The fries were amazing, but the real stars of the show were the salmon and the cheesesteak egg rolls. The salmon was tender, flavorful, and cooked to perfection. As for the cheesesteak egg rolls, I have never had anything like them. They were crispy on the outside, packed with cheesy, savory goodness on the inside, and one of the most memorable dishes I’ve had in years. The staff were warm, welcoming, and made the experience even better. The atmosphere was vibrant and full of energy, creating the perfect setting for a fantastic meal. You can tell this place is run with care and passion, and it shows in every detail. I would travel back to Philadelphia in a heartbeat just for Silk City Diner. Whether you’re local or just visiting, this is one spot you can’t miss. I can’t wait to return!

Had diner there this past week, and it's always above average. Though we didn't eat outside this time, they have a great outdoor area and I recommend sitting out there. I ordered a special fish sandwich of some sort, which was alright. I've had better there, but the fish was very fresh tasting, yet had way too much breading. And the roll was a bit too sweet for my liking. Had a bloody mary there that was slightly sour tasting, like they put too much lemon/lime juice in it (again, this is variable). I've had them there when they've been outstanding. Had fantastic gaspacho with a cucumber sorbet-- they should keep that on the menu all summer. So good! Waitstaff is always hipster chic and can varies between honest surly hipster and suburban hipster wannabe-- who are generally much more cheerful; the staff-- whomever you get-- is part of its charm. It's northern liberties, after all! I've been to the bar/club attached a few years ago before their renovation, and I liked it before the renovation. Recommend the resturant highly in both forms.

This diner located on Springgarden Street has been a longtime fixture. It is a bit upscale and even has a garden for dining in good weather. Recommend it.

Went here with my wife and toddler. Menu had more than enough choices and prices were on target for what you get. While the meals are 'dineresque' the quality was pretty high all around. Generous portions and everything was well prepared. Potato salad and mashed sweet potatoes were top notch. Atmosphere is great and we had a great time eating in their outdoor space which is a nice contrast to the typical diner car inside. Not exactly sure why this is labeled as 'kid friendly' as they don't offer any kid menu choices or prices other than the fact that some of their diner food (burgers, grilled cheese, fries, etc) is generally liked by kids and the atmosphere (booths and outdoors) is more kid conducive. They couldn't alter their quesadilla for us since they were already prepared, so the best they could do was make a more kid-like grilled cheese (unfortunately at the same price as the more gourmet, adult grilled cheese). We aren't parents who expect big accommodations for kids at restaurants, so this wasn't a huge issue and they were nice and tried to be accommodating. I just might warn toddler parents that there aren't really any choices for younger kids.

The food is excellent, the service is just right, the prices are reasonable, and the atmosphere is interesting. You really can't ask for much more. We tried the portabello burger with carmelized fennel and goat cheese. twice. The fish tacos are fantastic. the highlight, however is the banana chocolate bread pudding. I can't really use the adjectives I would like to use, as this is a family web site. Let's just say you won't be disappointed.

1. We were ignored at the door by a hostess who would not stop texting on her phone and flirting with the bartender. When we asked her for help, she rolled her eyes and grudgingly pointed at a table for us to sit. 2. We were brought water and menus by a staff member who again, rolled his eyes when we said thank you and walked off. 3. The food items were incredibly high priced for a diner. 4. We sat and waited for over 10 minutes with menus and water without any servers at all coming to our table. When someone finally came to the table, they took our drink orders and never came back. 5. After about 20 minutes of sitting and waiting and staring at each other, we decided to get up and leave. I don't recommend it, unless you want to waste an entire evening in a teeny tiny pseudo-diner being ignored by hipsters all night.

i was in the city for a show and after the show we were starving, we just happen to stop by and see this diner with outdoor seating so we stopped (we parked in the CVS). it is a diner, lounge and outdoor area. The decor is funky and fun, i had the chicken burger and mac and cheese they were great! I hope to be back soon to try out more items on the menu. There is also a lounge area and the outdoor area has a bar as well. Look forward to going back soon to explore more. The service could use a little more training, i saw my server once during my meal it it was at the end when i needed to pack my food. I needed more refills on drinks, and i just tried to flag any one of the two people that were there.

Stopped by here with a friend while visiting in Philadelphia. Diner is fun and they have a great patio. They said that we had to wait for a table outside so we sat at the little bar. I ordered the Impossible Burger which really was impossibly good. Prices were moderate and there were good choices on the menu.

Stopped in with some girlfriends before a concert at the Electric Factory (within walking distance). Ordered a Grilled Cheese with tomato and tomato soup. Let me tell you - the most MONSTER grilled cheese on upscale bread and fanciest tomato soup I have ever gotten at a diner. The food and presentation are awesome and staff super friendly. Big portions and decent prices. Worth it.

After our friend recommended this place for a late dinner and drinks, we had to try. Was phenomenal. Food was so delicious, and definitely something much better than 'diner food.' Their music was loud but the ambiance was perfect. Next door there was a night club room and after dinner we watched a break dancing competition. Was so much fun Definitely go here!

While I live in the Philadelphia Suburbs I'm not that familiar with good places to eat in the city, particularly at a reasonable price. This place fit the bill. We met my son there for breakfast and enjoyed great, classic diner breakfast food and coffee. He is a student at nearby Temple University and we now have a "go-to" place for breakfast, lunch or dinner.

I looked this place up online before coming to Philadelphia and was so excited to try it out. The food was ok and the staff weren't friendly at all. I did however love the patio and vibe outside. I can now say been there, done that.

Several great dishes like cheesesteak egg rolls, salmon, and beet salad, with excellent fries. Great service. The fall fashioned was nicely balanced. Atmosphere is a funky diner, quiet enough inside to have good conversations. Overall a good meal. My husband was disappointed with the turkey blt, which was inexpertly constructed (turkey lumped together) and he didn’t love the limited menu. It was expensive for diner type fare.

I had the one of the specials - chipped beef on toast. It was incredible. It came with just a side of greens but even they had a delicious dressing on them. I was a bit disappointed in the size of the portion for $11, I wasn't quite full. The place seems to cater to the drinking crowd a bit more than someone just grabbing a bite to eat.

Gourmet food in a fun, ecclectic diner atmosphere. An amazing menu that has something or everyone. Fine dining ideas executed in a casual diner environment. The wait staff is pleasant and they work together to provide fast, friendly service. We will definitely add this into our regular dining rotation when in downtown Philly.

My boyfriend and I spent a long weekend in Philly. We really love cute and unique breakfast spots. So Silk City was perfect. We sat outside and we could not stop looking around, the detail alone is amazing. Such a great atmosphere. The food was so great. My boyfriend wakes up all the time, 6 months since we've been there, craving their home fries. And their mimosas, were awesome. I just wish we lived closer so we could go every weekend. I definitely recommend making your way to this place, especially during the warmer months so you can enjoy the outdoor area.

Nice diner with a full bar, it is right across from the new Yards brew house. The "food network" pork empanadas were great. Good local beer at reasonable prices. Worth a visit.

I ate at this place because I like to try different triple d restaurant and was highly disappointed! We asked the waitress what guy fiery ate and we told that menu and chef have changed since the episode was aired. So we asked her what she recommended and she said everything! We thought that was inappropriate response for a waitress. I ordered the pork belly hash with poached eggs, thinking that this dish would be very tasty- I was wrong! It was tasteless because it had a broth. When did hash have a broth? Sorry but i don't think poached eggs go with soup! I love food and love trying new things, but I am urging even writing this review!

This is my first time in Philly and my flight got in late but we wanted some good! I did some research on best late night food in Philly and Silk City Diner stood out with their amazing menu! We drove 20 minutes from the airport and was very excited to eat! The food was delicious and the music was live jazz that night! We ordered the fried chicken with greens, mash potatoes and a side of Mac and cheese! Wow, it was sooooo good! This diner had a cool vibe and has great food! We lucked out and highly recommend it!

Always a great spot.. breakfast lunch/brunch or dinner is always good here, great atmosphere that offers outside seating during the warm season. Nice drink & food specials Awesome place to bring the entire family...or solo.

Went for food after a concert, midnight. The portions were large and everything was cooked to order. Food came out hot with a great presentation. Had the grilled chicken sandwich with fries. They over seasoned it with pepper, but outside of that the food was good.

We stopped here on our way home from a weekend in Philly. It was great. Funky atmosphere, excellent food, good service. try it, you will like it.

Decided to go there on a Saturday morning with my family of 4 and meet 2 friends. We were refused seeting until "the whole party is here" so the 4 of us had to wait standing at the entrance at a half empty place because of some "rule". Really a bad way to greet your guests. The food was average for a diner and the coffee was not good and luke warm. Our server was nice. Would never ever go there again nor reccommend to friends - plenty of nice diners out there so no need to settle for an establishment that values it´s own rules more than the customers.

Great find! We appreciated the Autumn food theme, with autumn veggies in their minestrone, pumpkin-flavored draft beer, kale salad, spiced, and braised pork Sandwich (great crusty bread) and the Thai-noodles with peanut sauce and duck confit were perfect with the Fall weather. We forgot the name of our waiter (a young man with a big moustache), but he was very helpful, friendly, patient and quick with the food. A lot of younger customers, but a few middle-agers (like us) were there, too. Very cool place: one part, more modern; one part, aluminum diner shell; one part; outside forum with a cool, funky, modernist theme. Outside seating in the Fall looks good, as they arranged overhead heaters throughout the forum. Party of 4 = $70.00 without a tip. We like to go again!

Delicious brunch. Plenty of daily specials to choose from. Expect to wait on a Sunday morning but things move along quickly. Our server was friendly and efficient. Tried the chicken sausage biscuit sandwich. The home made sausage with rosemary had a nice flavor to it and goes well with the gravy. I would definitely recommend it. I have been here a few times and have never been disappointed.

This restaurant FAR exceeded expectations. The service was laid back but excellent. The dish that stood out (2 of 3 diners had it) was the shrimp and grits. Best I've had. The Reuben was also a hit. If you're thinking about it, don't hesitate.

We had a fantastic visit to Silk City Diner - a very eclectic diner/garden/bar with some sensational food and service. All the food we had was delicious and a trip here is well recommended.

This place is always good. I went here recently for brunch and had a delicious mediterranean omlette, which I ate out in the garden . Even the coffee was delicious. I have been here for lunch and the food is always tasty.I also like the funky decor.

Great place for a reliable meal and attentive service. Creme brûlée French toast was relish but obviously sweet- paired well with the beet salad, one of the better ones I've had. Fried pickles were a little bit of a let down- pickled too big to hold breading

This is a cute little diner right in downtown Philadelphia. My husband and I like to go to diners because they are generally locally owned and the food is not 'assembly line'. It's also a great opportunity to try and discover different things. It was a beautiful evening, so we sat outside in the very nice and pretty spacious patio area. I really liked the ambience - BUT the shrimpburger was the star! :) So often, when one orders something like this (like a crab cake, for instance), what is delivered is a lot of breading with a little bit of shrimp/crab. Well, this is NOT one of those! This sandwich was comprised of a lot of diced up shrimp just held together enough to pan fry it. Mirin, a type of Japanese rice vinegar, gave it extra flavor, along with the miso dressing. My husband laughed because I mentioned how good it was so many times that he told me I should make it.. So, I did make it according to our server's instructions (which the chef was gracious to share), and I'm telling you, it's the only way to ever have a shrimp 'sandwich'. :) I also have to give kudos to the French fries. They were fresh cut and fried and simply delicious. We thoroughly enjoyed our time at Silk City Diner and I highly recommend going.

We went for the happy hour to try their food. The food was fine but not much of a happy hour place. Other places in the city have better happy hour options. This place is better as a night club and has strictly ok for food. They did not have very good happy hour discounts. $5 margaritas which were passable. Painkiller cocktail and chicken wings were awesome. We ordered a grilled chicken sandwich and that was nothing to rave about. Dry grilled chicken breast. Have heard people raving about their brunch and will try it sometime.

Party of 7 family and friends headed over for a Saturday brunch. Service was excellent. Food also great. Group had shrimp and grits, Philly cheese steak omelet, rancheros, crab cakes and chicken and waffles. And the soup of the day. Very good. All great. Give it a shot. Also featured on DDD.

Was in town for a weekend and happened to stumble upon this gem in Philly. The atmosphere and decor is wonderful, matched equally by the amazing food. We went for brunch, and sat outside. I had the chicken and waffles (delicious!) and my friend had the breakfast chorizo burrito. Both dishes were extremely tasty. When in Philly, make sure to stop in this gem!

Went there for brunch on Easter Sunday. So many good choices it was hard to decide. Had Pastrami hash, french toast. Everything was delicious!

From vegan Buffalo wings, beef burgerS, beet salads, beer, & more! This joint has something for everyone! Wife and I shared the vegan buffalo seitan wings, fries, and both had the beet salad and strawberry jalapeño margaritas.

I’ve eaten here several times before, but never thought to try it for brunch. I just went there yesterday, as Honey’s Sit'n Eat was too crowed. I thought I’d check Silk City out instead. I’ve always liked them for late night dinners and dancing, but now it’s my new favorite Philly brunch venue. It’s not your typical, boring brunch fare. I had the pork belly hash, which was pork belly, sweet potatoes, and seasoning done just right. My sister had the special, which included some homemade sausage…amazing…

Nice choices and nice presentation. Good food for the money.

Dear Silk City, This is basically a love letter to you. You are an anomaly that sounds ridiculous that isn't: a night club that is also an old-school diner. When I was 22 (in 2008) and new to Philadelphia, this was my go-to spot. The dance club is amazing and doesn't take itself too seriously. There was always amazing 80's and 90's hip-hop and pop playing. I remember working up a sweat to "Poison," "I Want it That way," and "Wannabe." I met two guys I ended up dating at your establishment.... then as I got older and settled down, i started to enjoy the other side of your establishment. You truly have the best brunch in the city. The unique specials that are always based on what's trending at the moment (ahem, avocado toast) along with the staples like the huevos rancheros...It's all amazing. And the DRINKS. From mimosas, to quality craft beer... I have never taken a guest or friend here and NOT had them be amazed. Thank you for catering to both the young, single girl and the now slightly-older, married girl: You Rock. Love, Lindsey

Interesting take on comfort food. Very crowded the last time we visited. Everything is good but, I keep going back to the fried chicken or ribs. Eclectic group of patrons.

I've tried a number of entrees and salads at Silk City, but my fav? The Kabayaki Glazed Salmon! Gotta have it. The portion sizes are generous, staff is friendly, and there's something on the menu for everyone. Another amazing dish to try is the Baked Macaroni and Cheese...OMG. So good. It's still on my to-do list to try their brunch, but I'm sure it will be a hit as well!

Went here with high hopes! My 2 friends that took me absolutely had this as their favorite resturaunt in Philly! Service was good and we got a great booth. Ordered the Thai chicken wings and a bloodyrita as a starter and was not disappointed!! Our breakfast arrived and 2 of us thoroughly enjoyed our plates...the 3rd was a little quiet thru hers. Once we left and were driving home we asked her what was going on. She then informed us that she had found a dark hair in her breakfast burrito ! She knew we were enjoying everything so she didn't say anything as to not spoil out experience. Sadly this is why I have given such low scores for my review. I am just up here on vacation from Florida but my friends are local and now they will never return to silk city .

Super fun decor, efficient staff, clean place, interesting menu. Great drink specials, and root beer floats. YUMMY, upscale selections! Previously featured on diners, drive-ins and dives, although they on longer had the featured items on the menu. That seemed strange to me.

Just happened to see the diner featured on the show right before living for Philadelphia and added it to our trip agnda, It is not in a part of the city we would have been in save for the show. It is upscale diner food done well. The staff is friendly and efficient. We had Bloody Marias-think tequilla instead of vodka-they were very good and super spicy. My husband had the breakfast chicken sandwich and loved the blending of flavors. I opeted for the roast beef with horseradish and it was great. Thier fries are wonderful. We were there ten minutes before they opend and people were lining up. It is a well-oiled machine that produces great food in a fun enviornment. Definitely GO!

I took the family here after seeing it on tripple D. The food was amazing kids had the fried chicken which was a big hit. I had duck which was the best I have had. Chicken wings were also great crispy with great flavor. It also has that old fashioned diner feel and service was exceptional as they were very attentive to my kids allergies.

The outside of the dinner is terrific! It has a retro sign on top of the building. The entrance has some cool metal art. It is a real fun place that gives great vibes. Inside, it looks like a classic diner, but more clean (and hip). My group and I sat inside (booth), but I had a view of the outside seating which looked very nice. There are some steps, but nothing terrible. It wasn't to another floor or anything, it is just a warning in case you are taking someone elderly. The food was killer! I had a chilled soup and a salad. So very delicious! Great menu, I'm a vegetarian and found a decent amount of options. Service was great as well. If you are in this part of town, this is a dining must!

There was a line before they opened at 10:00 am on Sunday but it moved quickly. Funky decor and atmosphere. The menu for brunch is extensive and includes creative versions of the standards as well as some usual items. I had the special pancakes - chocolate chips, walnuts, whipped cream, cherries. Delicious!

Went here last night for the first time since seeing this place on "Diners, drive ins and dives". Sat outside on the patio. The atmosphere was hipster and quirky and it was alot of fun. The food was great. We got the edemame and cheese fries and I ordered the tuna burger. All were fantastic. As far as I know, everyone else loved their dishes too. The waitress was super nice but she would disappear for what seemed like forever. Our stay was about 2.5 hours because she wasn't that attentive. Overall, I would visit this place again.

I love going to Silk City for brunch! It has something for everyone and great vegan options. Whether you want some breakfast favorites like French toast and home fries or seitan wings and an impossible burger, you are going to be getting a delicious meal! You also have the option of sitting indoors in their retro diner or outdoors in their rustic patio area.

Just trust me when I say you need to try the food here.... You will not go wrong. The chicken soup is home made and so worth trying.

Stopped by the diner after a visit to the holiday display at Franklin Square. We had wanted to try it for quite some time. Where most diners have a huge menu and fair quality, Silk City has a limited menu and high quality. They don’t take reservations. Nevertheless we were able to be immediately seated at the bar (it was a Wednesday night). The waitress/bartender was very friendly and helpful. We both had the buttermilk fried chicken entree based on her suggestion. Very large portion: half a chicken, mashed potatoes, collard greens and a corn bread muffin. All for a very reasonable price ($18). All very good. Will return to try some of the other options such as the salmon and the shrimp and grits, as well as the brunch which we’ve heard many positive things about.

Delicious shrimp & grits, & smoked salmon eggs benedict. But the side potatoes were a tad salty. Very good beer selection. Service was very good. Definitely a place to visit when in Philly. Got outdoor seating also.

We went to Silk City because we thought we would be able to eat dinner and enjoy live music at the same time, but that was not the case. The diner is completely separate from the longe where the bands play so when we go there we had to choose. While asking staff in the diner about how the whole thing worked, we were treated rudely. So instead of eating in their diner, we walked across the street to eat at the brewery instead. By the time we finished eating, 2 of the three bands were already done playing. We paid the full cover anyway (no discount??) to see the last band which wasn’t very good. We had a drink, listened to a few songs, and then left.

This is the best place for brunch, and they take care of big groups. You have to get a table in their back garden. Spring Garden is a super quiet street on a weekend during the day, so very relaxing! The prices are just right, too.

Great food horrible service!! The bartender Tom had a nasty attitude from the moment he walked to our table. Our entire time there we were not checked on. However the manager Butch sat and watched as we clearly needed service. Apon leaving we had to pay a tip which clearly was not earned. When requesting the GM contact info was given a fake number. Just horrible experience.

Saw this place on Diners, Drive-ins and dives and we loaded the family into the car and headed th Philly. What a disappointment. It was dirty and the food was so bland I don't even remember what we had.

Today was my third visit to silk city and I must say it will be my last. The lunch crowd is very busy, however the waitresses don't know how to handle a busy crowd. I came with two other friends and the one friend just ordered a drink and left afterwards. The waitresses are very racist. They cater to the caucasian crowd and last I checked we're all US CITIZENS!

Finally a place that lives up to the hype of DDD. Fast service, moderate price. Indoor and outdoor table service with bar. Got the Duck Flat Bread, Pork Empanadas, Sweet Thai & Chili Wings and enjoyed them all. 5 pm Saturday in July no wait. On street city parking. I would go again.

This place is a fun family friendly diner with great food! The service was great & very friendly as well!

First of all, I'm not a "hipster" (if anyone really is). On first glance, Silk City, gives you that feel, though. I've been a few places now, and the diners that give me those feels don't always have good tasting food. The Silk City Diner manages to be memorable and serve delicious and unique food. I also met one of the loves of my life, La Colombe coffee (of Philly, thank you very much) at this very place. Pricing is good. I've been for breakfast and lunch. My recommendations are: -Breakfast, especially the best pancakes ever (seriously) -Thai wings -Of course, a cup of Joe -I also suspect that this is a nice space for grabbing a drink This place is nice for a pairing (a friend or a date), a small group, or small family. There's outdoor dining available when it's warm, but we preferred the booths along the window. Enjoy.

The ambience to this diner was definitely a little strange, seeing as how we passed by a loud club and then a quiet 70's/80's style? diner to get outside to where we were eating, but the outdoor seating was a nice area in itself. Food was pretty good - the grilled chicken sandwich with broccoli rabe on ciabatta bread was delicious, and the fries were great as well. Didn't get to try much else, but it seemed like they had an interesting cocktail selection, in which I chose not to indulge. This was a decent, affordable place to grab a meal with friends, especially for a late dinner.

Great menu! Great food! The menu is very creative and the flavors out of this world. We ate outside and the atmosphere was nice. I would highly recommend eating here.

Visited on 5/28/12, chosen based on Trip Advisor reviews. Food was great, staff exceptional, fun atmosphere. Great looking place- eclectic, artsy decor and a nice outdoor patio. Highly recommended.

Found this place before seeing a show at the Fillmore. What a great find! The food was fantastic and the service was fabulous. We need a place like this close to our house!!

I enjoy diners!! I’ve always thought that if a girl dumps me or if I get fired a good place to go in the middle of the night after I’ve cried a lot is a diner!! Anyway I went here a few days ago for no reason whatsoever besides from it looked good and we wanted to try something new!! I was visiting the state University of Pennsylvania (that’s a fancier way of saying Temple University) because I am going there next year!! I got some fried chicken which I always love!! It was very crispy and came with mashed potatoes and collard greens!! I also got strawberry lemonade which was very good!!

We had a fantastic dinner at Silk City Diner this past weekend. The atmosphere is very laid back and fun. We had the pesto flat bread as an appetizer; my husband had the roast beef sandwich and I had the portobello sandwich. Both entrees came with fries. The peppercorn sauce that came with the roast beef sandwich was very tasty. As we were waiting for our food, we saw someone down a whole bowl of fries by himself. Then when we got our fries, we understood why. The fries were very, very good. Service was fast and friendly. We would definitely come back again.

We went on a Saturday evening, and the place was pleasantly full. There were so many things on the menu of interest that it was hard to narrow it down, but I had a delicious hot roast beef sandwich with caramelized onions, pepper cream, horseradish with a bowl of au jus, and good fries. Dessert was chocolate banana brioche bread pudding, which was exceptional. Service was excellent, and I'll head back there when in Philly.

I was really impressed with the options on the menu for both vegans and the opposite. They had a tofu and Asian inspired dish available. I could NOT stop from eating almost the whole plate...large... intimidating plate. They had the omelets, pancakes, and bloody-marys you would only expect from a stand up city diner mixed with a diverse ambiance and clientele. One side of the diner was a 50's style jump and jive vibe sans the soda fountain. The opposite end featured lounge-ish décor and standing table seats. Either would have been fine, but we got sat in the lounge. I would send anyone who wants a great breakfast directly to Silk City.

I had dinner with my daughter and her friends before a concert at the electric factory. This is a very hip cool restaurant and bar built around a traditional diner. The menu features a cool twist on traditional diner and comfort food. All of the ingredients were high quality and fresh. I had a flat bread with bacon, fig, pepper jam and herb cheese for an appetizer along with a grilled chicken sandwich with banana peppers, broccoli rabe and and pancetta. our group also had burgers and a large Cobb salad. Everyone really enjoyed there food and the price was very reasonable. The bar is well stocked and has a very good beer selection. Overall a fun place for a lively meal.

Loved this place. The staff were polite and friendly. Myself and my wife went because we loved the film 'Split' and wanted to visit the location of one of the famous scenes. I would recommend this great place to everyone.

This is a must-do if you live or are visiting Philly. The brunch specials are always creative and so very tasty. Get there early and get there often to try everything the amazing chef and supporting staff has to offer.
Great brunch....
Don't let the funky look of this place on the outside fool you. They serve a great brunch in the great outdoor patio. The menu was terrific, and our party of 12 enjoyed everything from my Eggs Benedict, to fried chicken and waffels, to amazing french toast. There was lots of plate sharing going on due to the great portions and great presentations on every item...
