Overhyped, Over-Priced and Disappointing

By PassionistaChic |

We were looking forward to a wonderful anniversary dinner and left very disappointed. Waiter started by introducing himself and told us about the restaurant bosting on the three chefs that are available all the time so the food always is just right. There were only two other parties seated so they were not busy at all. He proceeded to serve us a complimentary glass of sparkling wine, and we were very impressed. From there it just took a bad turn. Another two parties were seated, now there were five tables occupied for the three waiters and chefs. We were ignored and after a while our salads came out - beet salads that were more like a few pieces of beets atop lemon dressed arugula. Then we waited some more for our dinner to arrive. When it finally arrived it was cold! I don't mean lukewarm, I mean cold and a mediocre at best ribeye. Overcooked asparagus with greasy hollandaise and mushy brussel sprouts. When we complained to the waiter, he just said I'm sorry and walked away. I walked away from my table as I was very disappointed. My husband stayed to pay our bill and the manager brought a complimentary dessert which was left on the table. Will not recommend.

Wonderful service and food

A very classic eatery with excellent service, great wine list and good menu choices of steak and seafood. Very pretty restaurant

No Allen and Allen meat on Culinaria menu!

By JJJRS5 |

We've eaten at Silo Prime several times before. This was a Restaurant Week menu. We were disappointed that instead of featuring their usual Allen and Allen meat, they brought in a "locally sourced" filet for this special menu. This Culinaria menu is identical to the Culinaria menus at 3 other Silo restaurants, so why drive downtown? I recommend they get their own menu next Culinaria Restaurant week, even if they have to charge $45 instead of $35 (the "locally sourced" filet was a $9 surcharge, which would have been fine if it was their usual Allen and Allen prime aged steak. Service was spotty--we had to ask for bread for instance. Otherwise it was up to expectations. We very much like all the Silo restaurants and have eaten hundreds of excellent meals at them. This was hopefully a one-time disappointment.

Impeccable

By Becky N |

We have dined here several times. Every time our experience has been exceptional. The service is just unsurpassed. I really like how they rally all the waitstaff to bring out every entree at the same time. They do this at all of the Silo group restaurants and I love it. They have a waiter set the entree in front of each member of your party, all at the same time. It is a really nice touch that takes the service to the next level. They never shuffle around asking something like, "who ordered the salmon?" The steaks here are some of the best anywhere. I am a steak lover and have tried almost every steak house in town. You can't beat the steaks here. The vine ripe tomato salad is superb. The grilled artichoke that comes with the salad is a tease that leaves you wanting more. They really should make the grilled artichoke a menu item of its own. I've never tasted better and definitely would order it again and again. I also have had the frisee salad which is exceptional. And don't forget to order the brussels sprouts. Don't pass up a chance to eat here.

Mixed

By Brandon B |

Came for dinner on our anniversary on a Saturday night. Overall had mixed feelings on the experience. Service was a bit off from what I expect the norm probably is. Steak was just ok, it was cooked to the appropriate done-ness but did not have much flavor, definitely recommend getting one of the sauces offered. Wine was definitely over priced with common bottles being marked up an additional 50-100% compared to what other high-end steakhouses markup similar bottles.

delicious food

Connected to the Fairmont Hotel this isn't your average hotel restaurant. Great service, nice wine list and delicious food. They are able to handle Gluten free easily. Nice atmosphere inside. our waiter Steve was excellent. We would eat here again. Highly recommended. French onion soup was delicious Gluten free without the crouton). Veal chop is tasty and the mashed potatoes are delicious. the Airline Chicken (Gluten free) was great. We want to go back and have a steak next time.

The restaurant continues to serve a consistent product at the two locations I frequent in SA. Great menu and selection.

The wait was Amazing, so was the food!

By SPMurphy |

The wait was amazing, so was the food. There again, our party of sixteen was really hungry after two and a half hours of waiting. No communication, no apologies, about service until members of our party started to leave, but who cares another convention will bring in diners there is no need to try to provide service. The French Onion Soup was average yet the pork chop hit the spot. I did not wait for the chocolate mouse because it was 10:30 and we had a 7:45 diner reservation. Others in the party raved about the Brussel Sprouts and Mac n Cheese, but the wait marred the food. The waiter Jason was friendly yet the wait staff seemed under prepared and under staffed for restaurant week. If this is the best that San Antonio has to offer I would recommend skipping and going somewhere else unless you have 3 hours to kill. We spoke to the manager who apologized about each point in regards to lack of service and communication, yet the apologies seemed as hollow as our bellies after that wait. I wonder how practiced the manager is with giving these apologies as it seemed very by route. Shame on this restaurant as it seems to have placed it's customers into the silo or circle of we don't care. This restaurant could be so much better, sadly it is not.

All alone

By PlanoTravler |

Part of the group of Silo’s this is the most upscale of them all. Not exactly your typical Steakhouse. The menus is actually quite refreshing. For starters there are the stuffed quail or seared ahi tuna. I opted for the later was excellent. A very nice sear with pickles and fresh jalapeños. The salad even looked quite interesting. One of my guests had the crab cakes, and remarked that it was loaded with fresh crab. For the main we had the rack of lamb. It was cooked to perfection. It was served on a bed of mashed potatoes. Everything is alacarte so we ordered the roasted asparagus with hollandaise. My only complaint wound be the lack of professionalism by the waitstaff. At these prices I expect staff to be able to clear the table and fill glasses on a timely basis. That being said I would try Nonna next door on my return visit.

Fantastic meal!

We visited with a large group, and our food was superb! I had salmon while my husband had filet, and every bite was outstanding. Make sure you take a few minutes for the upstairs bar view!

Absolutely Delightful!

By Discover312160 |

The only disappointment was that they had no fois gras that night but otherwise, it was a delightful experience. The waiter was wonderful guiding us through the menu. He recommended a delicious wine and had tastes available of 2 we were considering. The food was excellent -- fresh, beautifully presented, in servings designed to satisfy, not over or underwhelm. The steak tartare and crab cake appetizers were perfectly seasoned. My husband had the salmon and I had veal chop. They were both prepared to perfection. Would not miss it if I ever returned.

Nice location with a rooftop bar.

Pleasant atmosphere and excellent cuisine. My group ordered both beef and seafood dishes and all were excellent; with very good service.

Dinner was great

Took a client to dinner and enjoyed it quite a bit. The attention to detail was tops. The service was great and the food wonderful. I had the scallops and would order again. We shared a desert of chocolate and ice cream. Yum! I look forward to coming again.

Secrets Shared

From the moment you are seated at your table at Silo Prime, you will feel the work week drift away in a cloud of cozy lighting, soft music (from a live pianist who is perfect for the room), and attentive but not hovering service. Located within the historic Fairmont Hotel, Silo presents the perfect option for a business dinner close to the bustling Riverwalk, but far from the hectic pace and narrow passages. We began with cocktails, and followed with Cabernet selected from the lengthy, but varied, wine list. Our entrees were the perfectly seared sea scallops accompanied by a cauliflower puree, and the pork shank - magazine worthy in its presentation. This is the sort of place you'd like to keep a secret and pat yourself on the back for finding. But sharing is caring, so.... you're welcome!

Best Meal in San Antonio

By 301Anon |

I am rubbish at wroting reviews! The setting was luxurious and the meal delicious. My steak was perfectly rare and my server lovely. My only complaint was that i continually had to top up my own wine glass. Otherwise it would have been 5 stars for me....

Beautiful, classy, and perfect steaks

By Patricia G |

Service is excellent, food is excellent and the Irish Coffee superb. We have stopped by after several nights out on the town just to enjoy their Irish Coffee because the wait staff makes it so perfect and fun to watch. It is nice and quiet compared to other steak houses in SA so if you want to enjoy a special night with a love one, or just a special night out Silo Prime is the place to enjoy.

"Allen Bros." Prime Steak flown in fresh cut from Chicago!

By JJJRS5 |

Excellent, perfectly prepared prime steak. What separates it from other "prime" steakhouses is its exclusive use of Allen Brothers Prime Steak flown in fresh cut from Chicago. Literally a cut above Ruth Chris, Mortons, etc. Downtown location convenient to all hotels and sites. Valet parking validated by the restaurant. Excellent wine choices with very good "by the glass" selections. I was offered a taste of their by the glass wine which I was not familiar with. Prices range from $32 to $100 (! The 24oz. "off menu" Porterhouse--superb ) for their prime a la carte meat. The "standard" steak items are very similarly priced to other quality restaurants and are a good value. Sides, etc. were priced equal to similar restaurants. Great friendly and attentive yet unobtrusive service.

Fantastic

By Claire B |

Had heard about the Fairmount Hotel and The restaurants and we were lucky enough to get into the Silo. What an unexpected surprise. Service fantastic and food amazing. Had the Tomahawk steak for two which was cooked to perfection. Top class and well worth the money. Call in if you want to treat yourselves.

Amazing view and excellent food

By Sergio P |

The place is awesome, different dining rooms and the best is the bar at the terrace, breathtaking views at night and good selection of malts. The food was great, I recommend any of the steaks. Good variety of appetizers, recommend the oysters Rockefeller (or any style) and the steak tartare.

Wow, REALLY nice surprise

By Bonnie C |

We found this place because a vendor took us here. However it was some of the best food I've ever had at a steakhouse anywhere! The restaurant is pretty low key elegant, a nice dining experience "in" a very cool historic hotel. I consider myself a foodie and liked this place so much, I brought my family here when they arrived in town. They serve some pretty exclusive cuts, excellent salads and sides and seafood to die for, along with serious mixology - loved this place!

Lovely meal, great service, and nice atmosphere

By Rammgm |

Warning...food review again. The wife and I went there as we were staying at the Fairmount. This food is absolutely stunning. First of all, you MUST get a reservation. It is quite popular and downtown. It is not very large. It is also cozy. I found it very enjoyable. The atmosphere is nice, but when the restaurant is full, it does get rather loud, but it does not prohibit two people from talking across a table. They had a live piano player who seemed to match the noise level. It is a neat trick as I am piano player. I was impressed. The service was absolutely top notch. They are kind, nice, efficient, and fun. They never bothered you while you ate. I ordered the 6oz center cut fillet, my wife ordered the pork chop. Both were delicious. The fillet come with a butter which increased the flavor immensely. The meat was soft, well-cooked, and perfect. The pork chop had an apple apple flavored sauce with fennel. It was placed on a bed of mashed potatoes. We added the Forest Mushrooms as a side which had some wonderful tastes within. After we ate, we decided to share a cheesecake. The cake was interesting to say the least because of the creamsicle cheesecake with grapefruit and a Chantilly topping. The topping was so delicate and light that it seemed to effervesce once it touched your tongue. I have never had such a cheesecake in my life. I count this as an 11 out of 10. A definite go.

Top Tier steak experience in San Antonio!

By Da'Rel B |

Loved it! I didn’t take any pictures but everything was delicious. I got the 14oz ribeye, SUPER TENDER & JUICY! Shane was our waiter and how service was phenomenal. Answered any questions and gave recommendations. He’s the reason we didn’t have room for desert after recommending the Mac & cheese w/lobster. We left stuffed then enjoyed some time at the rooftop bar. Pretty pricy but I’m a firm believer of you get what you pay for.

Among the best dining venues in Texas!

By flori-texan |

Went in a Saturday night for a birthday dinner. Party of four. Our table was waiting when we arrived and Jose' was the best waiter I can remember encountering... Ever. He made great recommendations and was attentive and very service oriented. Bartender mad the best "Old Fashioned" I have had in awhile. I had the filet, my wife the chicken and both were to die for. Desserts were great and Jose' walked us up to the rooftop bar that has the best view in San Antonio, for a night cap. Bottom line is that this is a dining option that can compete with any in the state. I foresee this being my go to spot for fine dining and special events in the future.

Great all around

Great place for a date night, cozy and romantic. Lobster fondue was on point, great steaks and extensive wine list. They have free valet which is always nice around down town SA.

Silo is hard to beat

By Alan G |

Our first visit to the only Silo location we had not been to. Located in the Fairmont Hotel, Prime and Nonna Osteria occupy two wings of the lower floor. Prime is a bit more elegant in decor and quieter. The menu is basic American, with a slant toward meats. A filet was good, and the sea bass was excellent. Salads were fine although a bit under dressed. The wine list is fine as well. Prices are reasonable, and the service was outstanding. Not my top Silo choice ( that would be the Oyster Terrace), but quite good. A good downtown spot.

Great vibe, excellent service and food

By K D |

A group of East Coast out-of-towners, we were blown away by this gem. Food, vibe and service were amazing. Actually considered coming back the very next night! This was the opposite of a cramped and loud Friday night experience where you fight to hear your own conversation. Silo gives you room to breathe and really enjoy a wonderful meal, even when every table is occupied. Each entre at our table was a hit.

Stellar Service, Elegant Ambiance, and Decadent Flavors

By Brandy g |

We came to Silo Prime the night before Thanksgiving to celebrate a joint birthday, and it felt like we had the entire dining room to ourselves--it was practically deserted, which made the experience feel extra special. The service was excellent, and Andrew was awesome! Both of my friends celebrating their birthdays were greeted with a glass of bubbly, which was such a nice touch. For my meal, I ordered the double cut pork chop with buttermilk mashed potatoes, wild mushrooms, and marsala sauce. While the flavors were fantastic (especially the sauce and the creamy mashed potatoes), the pork chop itself was overcooked and tough, which was a letdown since it was supposed to be cooked medium per the chef's recommendation. My friends shared the evening's special, a massive porterhouse with sides and a lobster tail. The steak was seared beautifully and cooked perfectly to medium--everything a steak should be. And the truffle mac and cheese? Creamy, decadent, and downright delicious! Overall, Silo Prime is a lovely spot to celebrate a special occasion. Despite the hiccup with my pork chop, the ambiance, service, and other dishes made it a great experience. Would definitely come back to try more!

Very Good Service, Very Good Food

We enjoyed the 10oz Filet and a couple sides, more than enough for 2 people and it was cooked perfectly.

Excellent Meal

The staff and decor are what is expected for a restaurant of this quality. Staff attentive but not intrusive. Made the extra effort to insure a pleasant dinning experience.

Great place for couples - please keep this place a secret

By NSpear |

This restaurant was recommended to us by the concierge at our hotel. This restaurant and another restaurant (old-style Italian) are connected to the Fairmont hotel which was moved to this location not long ago. We were not disappointed. Great service and attention by the manager. We ordered the specialty steaks and mac and cheese and shoe string fries - they were all great. The asparagus was just ok. The drink service was tops. They knew how to make my specialty drink and were very accommodating to letting my wife try the wine that she wanted. I wish I knew about this place sooner.

Wonderful first visit

By Mike S |

Located in the Fairmount Hotel in downtown San Antonio, attached to Nonna ... another wonderful option for Steak and Seafood. Small and quaint fantastic (yet pricey) wine list. Being a wine “snob” ... I know how much they really cost. Great selection though. Great food and service.

Anniversary Dinner

By frugalbronco |

My wife and I love to try high end steak restaurants for our wedding anniversary each year. Last night we dined at Silo Prime which is located in the Fairmont Hotel. We had to dine early because of other commitments and surprisingly we were the only table in the entire restaurant. We started with a vine ripen tomato salad that was sprinkled with balsamic vinegar and had roasted artichoke and arugula with it. There were three fresh breads brought out with the salad as well. Main course for me was a pork shank with apples, unbelievably tender and had a great taste. I left only the bone. My wife had some type of steak with the bone in it as well. Cooked just right and she loved the flavor and the tenderness. For a side we had shoestring fries and they were very addictive. Huge portion in the basket. We enjoyed a few drinks from the bar and to end our diner experience we were treated to a complimentary glass of champagne by Ryland and the other waitstaff to toast our anniversary. Lastly, the Fairmount hotel was a museum. It is small, with old pictures downstairs all over the walls. They had complimentary valet parking since we were dining there. Made parking easy for us. All around a great experience and wanted to share it. Cheers!

When you treat yourself to the best.

Traveling to meet family. My Open table app would not work to make a reservation but luckily we were guests at The Fairmount which is in the same complex. Our hostess was very helpful. I had also been watching the clientele from our room’s veranda view & it just reminded me of the people you see thru the windows dining laughing and enjoying themselves. Our meal was exceptional but it was our Server Irene that made for an amazing dining experience. From her selection of the red wine, to the meal selections she suggested. When our meal was ready two other servers assisted Irene who were also gracious & helpful. Our compliments to the chef & his assistants. When you like what you are doing it shows. Thank you to the staff at Silo Prime. When we return to San Antonio you restaurant will definitely be on our list.

Best steak I’ve ever had!

By Ed K |

This is a bold statement and I’ve eaten a lot of great steaks. I typically prefer the fattier cuts like ribeye, but this time I chose the lobster and filet. It was the best steak I have ever had. Everything else was amazing, the drinks, the service, and the sides. I’ve been to every high rated steak restaurant in San Antonio and this is the best! We’ve been twice now and we will definitely go back.

Great birthday dinner

By Stacey C |

Celebrated my husband’s birthday here and were not disappointed. He had the ribeye and I had the salmon. Both were excellent.

As I got the order (almost 1h at 5PM), I was very disapointed for the meat, overcooked. I requested a new, got the same cold with the explination it is ok.

Good place

By Guillaume |

I went with my wife for a peace of meat. The service was great. We ordered french wine (Saint Emilion Grand Cru) hat was awesome. My wife ordered the tartare and it was really good, just a little bit too salted. I ordered the lobster and crab fondue, and it was simply awesome. Then we order a cowboy steak, but as they ran out they replaced it with a great tomahawk.

We were excited to try the

By Libby W |

We were excited to try the Prixe Fixe menu with the wine pairing as a celebration of coming out of Covid lockdown. While the food was as good as expected (having enjoyed all of the Silo locations for many years!), the service was abominable! Our server’s attitude was paltry and unenthusiastic, and he was clueless about the menu, cocktails or wines. He never explained the wine pairings with the courses and didn’t even identify the wines being poured. Even after telling him we wanted to know the names of the wines, he still never identified any future pours. When we got our bill, imagine our surprise when we were charged for “Top Shelf” liquor in our cocktails that wasn’t even requested! And at $26/shot, it was a most unwelcome surprise! Although the manager adjusted our bill a little (to $21/shot - which was still ludicrous for rye!!), I doubt we’ll ever return to this restaurant. After everything that’s happened lately, one would expect restaurants and waiters to welcome customers back with their best service, hospitality, and gratitude. Obviously this one doesn’t...

Wow! Cool restaurant! Amaretto sour was wonderful. The wedge salad was great. The rib eye, bernaise, and fries were so good! Will be back!

A Great Experience!!

By 1776Gear |

A large group of 10 of us went here for dinner while in San Antonio for a convention. I am glad we did! We had reservations at another establishment that fell through, and ended up getting in on short notice. The wine selection here is extensive, and our waiter was very knowledgeable on pairings. I had the ribeye, which was amazing! Served med rare with a Marsala that was perfect. The beef tartar was delicious, crab cakes were great, garlic mash was spot on...I mean really everything! Great service, great food!! The restaurant is located in a turn of the century hotel that was relocated to this area in the 1980s! The scenery and atmosphere is really nice! Highly recommended!

An Incredible Experience

By momof_boys46 |

It was an incredible experience, the food was fabulous and the service was amazing. Majority of our party had the filet that melted in your mouth and the truffle & lobster macaroni & cheese was remarkable. We have already made plans to return next year!
