Simar opened in Austin in December 2022. We tried it for the first time this month. It is a large, clean and modern decor restaurant. The vibe is Mexican Seafood. There are 6-7 ceviche dishes with varying ingredients and the servings are beautiful and large. One could satisfy a person for dinner. We shared one, then ordered coconut shrimp with plantains and Filete Res, a red snapper filete with veggies , shrimp, and a wonderful sauce. Although spicy dishes are available, these two were zero spice. The menu is broad and the servings large, but gormet in style. Prices are moderate. We had appetizers, two drinks, and two entrees. $100 plus tip. Highly recommend.

This place has had good food in the past. But I took a friend there for lunch one day and the entire place smelled of raw sewage. We both couldn't tolerate the odor and left just after being seated. No one (staff) at the place seemed to notice or care. Other customers were leaving, too. One of the most important goals of any business, much less a restaurant, is to NOT reek of raw sewage. What the hell is wrong with their management. I haven't been back and don't recommend it to friends.

I was in the mood for seafood and found this restaurant on Google Maps. I didn't read a single review. This was by far the BEST meal I've had in a LONG time! I ordered a peach margarita, which had just the right blend of sweetness and strength. My main course was the Simar pasta with shrimp and Florentine sauce. It was SO decadent! I think the cook must have used a whole tub of butter! It was a huge portion, but I had skipped lunch and managed to finish it off. The service was spectacular. I don't know if I'll ever make it back to Austin, but if I do, I'm definitely going back!

The food and the atmosphere were appealing. They offer several versions of ceviche. We shared the Aztecs ceviche and loved it! I had the Tacos Tri Mariscos which was very good. All four of us enjoyed our meals and the service was excellent! Big NEGATIVE: When we (two couples) received our checks, we were surprised to see a service charge added if we paid our bill by credit or debit card. I strongly object to this practice. Restaurants gladly accept credit cards because it is proven that diners spend more on their food when they are not limited to the cash in their pockets. The fee merchants pay to Amex, Visa, etc. is a standard cost of doing business and should not be passed on to customers. To do this shows complete disregard for you customers. Because of this fee, I cannot honestly recommend Simar to friends or family. In fact, I would encourage avoiding this restaurant until that policy is corrected.

A very good sea food restaurant in the locality. I was staying in Hyatt Place nearby and came here for lunch and dinner 3 times. Ambience, food quality and service were very good. I would strongly recommend this place. My favorite here is the grilled Salmon.

The food at Simar is outstanding, the atmosphere authentic to a Mexican coastal area, and the variety of drinks are mixed beautifully with many tequila choices. The fish, scallops and shrimp are incredibly fresh with sauces that accentuate and enhance. An assortment of ceviche choices bring light, subtle flavors to the palate to begin the meal. The waitstaff are friendly and accommodating and the chef came to the table for a personal connection. This is a must for seafood lovers and those learning to love seafood. Enjoy!!!

Great concept featuring Mexican coastal seafood dishes, with octopus being a signature offering. Service was a little spotty but it’s clear the restaurant is newer and is growing. Plenty of fresh seafood options and traditional Mexican sides. Limited wine list but solid beer and tequila offerings.

If you love seafood and with a Mexican flare, this is a restaurant that you should visit. The menu has a wide range of offerings and includes beef and chicken to complement the seafood. The staff is friendly and attentive but not hovering. The presentations are both beautiful and delicious. I had a twist on chile relleno with shrimp as the stuffing. We were not at all rushed but allowed to catch up with friends over this excellent meal. They do take-out as well. We will be back.

Everything about this place is excellent. I had one of their Ceviches and some snapper and the taste was outstanding. The service was incredible and attentive. The staff was five star.
