Great food at great prices!

By D9130DFmaryk |

Great food at great prices! I had Chicken Pad Thai and it was just $12. My husband liked his dish as well. He had a curry dish.

A good Thai restaurant near Providence Hospital

By Melvin R |

Here we go again, I'm swimming against the current with my rating. There was nothing wrong with this Thai restaurant. The service was very good and the prices at lunch were very reasonable. The food was fine. I'm not here to complain. It wasn't exceptional. It was good. I have no complaints. I have no raves about the food. Again, the service was definitely above average. The staff was friendly and accommodating. The price for this area was very good. If you are a Thai lover and you're close by looking for some chow, I don't believe that you'll be disappointed with this choice.

great takeout

By Cpjules |

My sister-in-law took me here upon arrival at PDX. She knows I like thai food and since it is hard to find decent thai food back home - I was a happy camper. Bummer that it was on covid lockdown still and doing takeout only. We ordered pad thai, pineapple rice with shrimp and chicken cashew plates to go. Ample food for 3 of us and had leftovers. Once we were at my nephews to eat I realized they had given us chicken instead of the requested shrimp but still tasty. I would go back but next I will check the food before I leave the premises.

Sweet family, great service, middle of the road, but consistant Thai.

Wonderful family run business. Reliable, consistantly presented, not particularly inventive or mind-blowing food, but solid family Thai business. Extra star for their warmth and pleasant manner.

Definition of hospitality

Good curries, $ 1.00 Thai tea. Extremely good service and hospitality. Complimentary small servings of appetizers and dessert without us asking. The pad Thai is average at best. the mango was the best I've had

Can you say free thai iced tea and desert and appetizers!

By honeymoonerpdx |

a group of 12 people went here for my friends Birthday dinner. The people there are so very attentive and friendly without being in your way. Great service. The thing that blew me away is that you can have as many glasses of Thai iced tea as you want..... I had to stop at three because the caffeine and sugar rush was about killing me. When you are seated they bring in a free round of appetizers.......really it's free. The food is very good here and so affordable. It completely blows the mind that the iced tea, the appetizer and the mango desert at the end are all included in the price of your meal. It's normal Thai prices about $8 per dish. The atmosphere is nothing to write home about but the entire experience more than makes up for it.

No better service, anywhere

By Jonathon D |

What all can I say about the friendliest restaurant I have been to. The host, probably the owner, greeted me with a "happy Friday" and a "how is your day going?" The service was very fast, friendly and professional. The soup, tea and dessert were on the house. My sivalai cashew was perfect, medium spiciness was perfect. My whole lunch cost less than $6! (With do many things being on the house and the incredible service I left a 100%. I look forward to coming here everyone I'm in Portland and I would recommend it to anyone! (Definitely enjoy the hot tea and delicious coconut sticky rice with mango at the end of your meal and relax!)

I like this place. The food is not anything to write home about, but it is decent, and the people who own the restaurant and that work their are some of the kindest people ever. They also give a free beverage, including Thai iced tea and Thai iced coffee, as well as a free mango and sticky rice with the meal.

Best Neighborhood Thai Food

By hjdavidson722 |

Tabor neighborhood gem! Everything is authentic and delicious. Pad Thai, Cashew, Drunken noodles, curries, and rice dishes. Perfect for couples, large groups or take out. The staff is outstanding. Friendly and generous - you always feel right at home. Yummy mango and sticky rice for dessert.

Wonderful food and friendly staff

By Bebopgurl |

My boyfriend and I had just arrived in Portland and felt like getting some Thai food. The rating for this place was high on google, so we gave it a go. We were very impressed. The staff was friendly. The food came out fast. We were given a spring roll and a small portion of sticky rice with mango for free. The food was fantastic. We would recommend this place to anyone visiting Portland.

Good Food, Great Service!

By FreddoTraveler |

We have been here several times. Meals are always very good and the service is great. We usually have the fellow serve us who I believe is the owner. He is very friendly and always takes great care of us, but the other staff is also very friendly. We order the Panang Curry which is good and alternate between other dishes: Pad Thai, Basil Garlic Chicken etc. Every meal has been good and they start us out with a small 'Wrap' and give a small desert of Sticky Rice 'on the house'. We discovered this restaurant by chance and will come back. Keep up the good work!

Classic Thai

By Katie M |

There are so many Thai restaurants in Portland and this one is right in the middle of the pack. On the pro side, the family that runs it is very involved and will make you feel welcome. There are plenty of tables so there is usually no wait. The Tom Yum soup is above average and perfectly seasoned. The food is generally just average and can be unpredictable. For example, I got a really great spicy green bean dish one time, but in ordering it again it was mediocre.

Hidden gem

By JulieBandSteveB |

Looking at somewhere to go before we headed back to the airport we thought we'd give this place a try. Older decent-size dining room service was very quick and the food came out very fast we were given soup and sticky mango rice to go along with our entree. Food was hot with good taste my husband would prefer a little bit more spice but we weren't asked during our order pricing was very good average price between 10 and $13 for most items. Indoor seating only, in a residential area

Best sit-down Thai Food in Portland!!

By Jade Rose M |

I would travel any distance just to get a plate of their delicious, homemade thai food! With exceptionally friendly customer service as well, you get the whole package!! Free small app if you order just an entree and a free small dessert if you do not order any. On top of that, you occasionally are gifted a free thai iced tea or warm tea. The house curry i a favorite, but we love the American- Thi classics as well. Like pad thai etc.

Sugar in Everything

By JaneSeesWorld |

This place is located in a residential neighbourhood that was very easy to miss, especially at night. We went in on a Saturday night, and it was half full. The menu looked really promising, and we ordered a stir fry vermicelli dish, a duck curry with rice, and a Tom Yum (spelling?) soup. We were in a group of three, and the server said it should be enough food for everyone. Out of the three dishes, the duck curry, which was on the Specials section, was the best. I enjoyed the soup, but the other people in my group didn't as much. The Vermicelli dish under the Noodles section was disappointing. I want to point out that the three of us shared everything, and the common thread between all the dishes was there was WAY Way too much sugar used in everything. The soup was salty and sweet and sour at the same time. The sweetness in the curry didn't bother me too much, but the sweet stir fry noodles was just inappropriate for a main course. We ordered a fourth dish, as I was still terribly unsatisfied and hungry. I asked the server between the Pad Thai and the Pad See Ew, which one was less sweet, and he said the Pad See Ew, which turned out was just as sweet as anything else. I drank four glasses of water and 2 mugs of hot water during this meal, because the sugar and the salt (mostly sugar) was just overwhelming in this meal. Maybe this is Portland's preferred way of Thai food, or even real Thai food?

Service is out of this world!

By Andrea L |

Not only is the food here fantastic, but the service is unbelievable. It is owned and run by a lovely Thai family, who wait on you hand and foot. They are cheerful and so eager to please. The location is very convenient, and while unassuming from the outside, don't let that fool you! The prices were great, and they brought little free appetizers and then a little free dessert afterwards. My two adult sons and I enjoyed our visit and will be sure to come here again!

OK for Vegans

By JasperMarks |

I keep hoping I'll find a vegan Thai place that I like. Svalaya was OK, but nothing to write home about. They did have quite a few items to choose from. Perhaps I'm spoiled from having lived in SF and LA. Portland just doesn't have good Asian food.

Absolutely incredible

By Cindy K |

This is a little Jewel of a restaurant with the BEST Thai food ever! When you enter, you are warmly greeted and treated like special guests every time. We have tried many of the menu items and each one is delicious. Not to be missed is the Chicken/Shrimp Crispy Basil, even better than in Bangkok! The portions are very generous and the prices cannot be beaten, especially considering the quality of the food. It is easy to find and parking is not a problem.

BEST THAI IN PNW

By Christine R |

I love, love, love Sivalaya! First and foremost, the staff are so incredibly friendly and they will remember customers who return. Plus the Drunken Noodles are boooomb. I live in Washington and I seriously will find any excuse to drive down to Portland mostly just to eat here. Love it!

Great Service

Amazing service, food came quickly, small appetizer and dessert. Pad Woonsen and a chicken dish. Both were tasty!

The food has a bit of a different taste than typical thai food, but it is delicious, and the owner is so energetic, friendly, and just plain fabulous.

What an awesome place!

By Dave L |

I just went here with a buddy for dinner and boy were we glad we did! He had the Jungle Curry and it was really good. The flavors were bright and savory and it had mushrooms, eggplant, baby corn, zucchini and a bunch of other delicious ingredients that were just fantastic. I had the Pra Ram with shrimp and the peanut sauce was delightful. They gave us a free salad roll and dessert which we happily split. The server was so funny and always had a smile. We had no problems getting a table and the service was great even on a Friday. We will definitely be back.

Homemade Thai.

By Dara50 |

Place for homemade Thai experience. They will temper the spice but I would say that you will be missing the real McCoy by doing so. Recommended for spicy palates. Start with the seafood Tom Yum soup. It's how it would be served on the Thai Riviera. All the goodness of the Gulf of Siam would go in it. Would recommend a noodle and curry dish to round things off. Have a dessert recommended by your waiter to cool your palate. You'll find your waiter and cook to possess the benevolence of Buddha. Noticed a private party brewing. Looks like they brought a half case of their favorite BYOB.

They really know how to treat a guest

By Christina M |

They really go out of their way to ensure you enjoy your meal. The food is wonderful, the prices are great, and the service is unmatched. We have been here many times and we have always enjoyed our visit. Today we had the Siracha with chicken and a spicy curry. Oh my goodness, spicy, flavorful, and oh so tasty! In addition to your meal, they bring a small bite appetizer and stick rice with mango to finish the meal. Just the thing to cool down the tongue after our spicy dishes. When you try Sivalai, this place will quickly become a favorite. The name means paradise and it's a little bit of heaven right here in Portland.

Did not disappoint!

We went here based on reviews we found online. Our family of 5 loved it! The food was delicious and our service was 5 star - a rare occurrence these days! We enjoyed it so much we are planning to come back before we fly home!

Super hospitality

By John E |

Stopped in for lunch at Sivalaya and was super impressed by our host. I felt like a guest in someones home! Lunch was very reasonable and included soup & dessert. Not the best thai I've tasted, but very good and an excellent value. Don't let the building scare you - it's quaint and comfortable inside and an overall good experience.

Great food.

By Evelyn K |

Our water aerobics group went for lunch. We had 20 people and the employees were very helpful in putting tables together for us. They went above and beyond to accommodate us. The food was delicious, every one in our group was very pleased. I am ready to go back.

Amazing Thai food, best service

By Doug H |

We stopped in here in the way through Portland and were really impressed by the food and quirkiness of the restaurant. The special red curry was interesting and grew on me with each bite. I ended up really loving it. The staff were lovely. Very sociable and great sense of humor. They were pretty busy but really impressed with how personable they remained. I wish this place lived in my home town. I would visit weekly.

So good!

One of our favorite neighborhood restaurants

By Martha D |

I have relatives who live in the Mt. Tabor area and this is one of the wonderful neighborhood restaurants we go to often. The people are friendly, the food is excellent and the prices are right. They bring the food out quickly, and I haven't been disappointed in anything we've gotten. They also provide free tea and often sticky rice and mango. This is a wonderful place to feel like you are in the 'hood!

Great food, great prices

By WhatBoundaries |

We enjoyed a great late lunch/ early dinner here. The food was wonderful and plentiful. The service was out of this world with friendly faces and little extras like a free tasting. We had pot stickers as an appetizer and shrimp Pad Thai and the Pumpkin Curry special for our main. All of it was delicious! We even ordered some fresh rolls to go as we had so many leftovers it will surely be another meal!
