Good late dinner

By Dwtilford |

Shortly after my wife and I arrived in Seattle to visit our son the three of us walked from his home to this pub in Seattle's Capital Hill neighborhood. We arrived late, close to 10pm, and were seated promptly. My son and I ordered the burger which was served with delicious fries and great, thinly sliced, dill pickles. The burgers were very good but mine, ordered cooked medium well, arrived close to medium rare. I did not send it back but mention this to give those who object to meat cooked somewhat red to be aware of the possibility that this could happen. My wife had the Cuban pork sandwich very pleased with her selection. Portions were ample, beer selection was very good, service was adequate and the atmosphere was enjoyable although a bit noisy. A return visit is likely. I would recommend this place to anyone looking for good pub food.

Great food, great price

By Andrew M |

I had an execellent meal - leg of lamb. There was great variety on the menu. The service was friendly and efficient in a very casual and relaxed atmosphere.

SOMETHING AIN'T RIGHT HERE

By STEVE C |

We ate here a few years ago but tonight was memorable in unfortunate ways. The place seemed understaffed and moderately busy. Waitress was exceedingly kind but the food was just horrible. I ordered a simple bacon cheeseburger with aoli sauce and French fries which were lukewarm. No aoli or bacon arrived and the little slice of cheese was $2.00 on top of an extraordinarily ordinary burger. My wife had roasted chicken with unpalatable "vegetables" that looked like they emerged from a kitchen disposal. The cognac was fine, however, The manager was very kind and understanding, deleting all of the food from our $65 bill. I am unsure we would go there again.

Trendy Spot!

By VictoriaWineLovers |

We had dinner here and it was really very good. The menu is small but very nice. Our food was delicious. The atmosphere is great, very friendly, good music. Our server was very nice and new the menu well and offered drink suggestions.

Hipster but Cool Anyway

By PickyGirlTravels |

I was not too enthused when friends brought me here because it just oozed with hipsterness. Despite that the food was good and not too expensive. I had the small poutine with brisket from the happy hour menu.

Midweek dinner

By 206sal2018 |

Reliable burger, good cocktails. However, a disappointing and iffy spring menu features a pork schnitzel lacking in good form. Not well pounded out—as uneven as Seattle’s pot-holed roads. Nice touch with a grilled lemon wasn’t enough to salvage the entree. And shabby, half-hearted version of sauerkraut accompanied the meal. Potato salad was salty and average.

Nice place to meet friends after work

By Alec D |

This is a basic/rustic (looking) place. I've gone out several times with friends from work. The food is simple but good. They have large tables that you share with others. It can get a bit loud depending on when you're there. It's a nice place on Capitol Hill.

Cool place which serves small heartattacks

By Eline H |

Service was a bit slow to begin with. We went for different sharing dishes. Not so very healthy but good. We had the Tartar (not so good), melon salad (good/ ok), fries covered in Brown gravy with cheese melt (insert heart attack here.. But surprisingly good), max and cheese which were more like a spaghetti carbonara (really good), corn. Enough for three people. Would definitely go back.

Hunting lodge in France atmosphere

By loveDCA |

Smith is decorated like an old hunting lodge - animal trophies and all - with a great selection of beer, cocktails, and French- themed food like delicious mussels and quail, as well as standard fare like mac and cheese.

Great for brunch

By jtfman |

Came here for brunch last weekend, was not disappointed. Great Bloody Marys and scrambles. The grits are not to be missed!

Nice pub atmosphere

By GGMai |

Great casual place to hang, drink and have some great food. Came for the poutine which didn't disappoint. Also had the mussels which were also great.

Great staff - amazing drinks!

By GeorgiaCoffey |

Went for nibbles and drinks and wasn't disappointed! The staff was very attentive and knowledgable and service was prompt. The Old Fashioned I had was spot on! My pal had the Martini and it was smooth. The macaroni and cheese is worth it - piping hot and creamy. The poutine tasted delicious but could work on its presentation. The decor is cozy and rich.

Nothing extra ordinary

By the_melv |

Food is OK though not especially interesting or unique. Fried chicken and waffles? Seems to me this ubiquitous dish needs to be outstanding or why bother? Everyone else is doing it. How about the chef's choice scramble where it appears to have all of the prior evenings left overs tossed in. Using leftovers make for combinations that do not always work. Corn in the eggs? Admittedly we have only eaten twice during the weekend brunch times. These do not inspire us to return for an evening meal. It's one of those places where the wait staff never smiles or acknowledges you until they bring the check. "How was everything?" Seems to me that is a question that ought to be asked early on in the meal.

Yummy burgers

By Swissmike76 |

Nice place for a burgers and a nice beer. one if not the best burger we have tasted during our PNW holidays. The staff was very friendly and efficient. Would love to go again and try some other dishes on the menu that looks very good.

Go here. Don't ask questions, just do it.

By DollRevolution |

Smith is, yes, expensive, but it's so worth it. It's a delicious place for brunch. For all the negatives of it, it's still worth the visit. BF & I come here often. Eat the chicken & waffles. They are a little spicy, ALL delicious!! (The coffee is swill, go down the street to Cafe Ladro and treat yourself.) CALL AHEAD and get your name on the list!

Great mac n cheese!

By LWC68 |

We hadn't booked so had to wait a little while for a table. Smith deserves its popularity. Good service and tasty food. We had mac n cheese, asparagus spears and sweet potato chips. Yum!

Good Food but Noisy

By TheTravelerBoston |

If you can get by the noise, the food at Smith is excellent. The night we were there the restaurant was packed and the noise level high. The brick chicken was spot on - crispy skin and moist, tender meat. The steak salad special with grilled peaches was a home run. They have a nice selection of local brews. Suggest trying Smith at an off peak time so you can enjoy the fine food in peace.

Mother's Day brunch

By barbarakirk |

My son took me to Smith's for Mother's Day brunch. The staff was very friendly and the service was great. They gave me a small vase of flowers that included a red rose. We ordered peach French toast and rhubarb/strawberry crepes on a chocolate covered plate. We also ordered beignets which they forgot to bring until the end of our meal. They were delicious! This place is a neighborhood gem and I highly recommend it. I would definitely go back for the eggs Benedict.

Friendly and Tasty Brunch

By Stephen K |

Four of us had a late (noonish) brunch on a recent Saturday in this Capitol Hill spot. Lucked into a booth in this busy spot, which helped somewhat with the only slight drawback, the noise ... but good luck finding a quiet brunch anywhere! All of us loved our selections from the brunch menu, and the service was super friendly and accepting without feeling false.

Great Brunch

By MsMimi L |

Great service, excellent atmosphere, fast service, attentive staff. Try the pitcher of pomegranate mimosa - fabulous. One negative: it can be loud when it is busy. Hard to hear others talk. Everything else was Fantastic...

Great happy hour stop

By Leslie W |

We stopped in for an early happy hour on a cold and snowy Friday afternoon, and found a lovely warm place to settle in for an hour or so. The cocktail menu looked very creative and tempting, but we settled for very good Northwestern red wine, and munched on a couple of small plate servings: roasted cauliflower and brussels sprouts and a very substantial poutine. The staff was friendly and welcoming, the place one where you could easily find a cozy corner and wile away the hours. It's a great neighborhood spot.

Feels like a den with decent pub fare

By charles l |

We went here on one of the hottest days in Seattle and the place seemed moderately busy, but the cold AC was really what kept us. I had the brisket and fried egg sandwich with fried green tomato and fries. The brisket was tender and juicy and that made the break a bit soggy. I was expecting the brisket to come out chopped or pulled like pulled pork but it was one big cut of brisket so I ended up eating it more with fork and knife -- perhaps they could toast the bun so it doesn't soak as fast? My friends had the seasonal omelette and the eggs benedict. They liked it okay.

Possibly the best burger in town

By Worldcitizen |

This is a great place to have a beer or craft cocktail, chat with friends and eat their amazing burger. You won't regret it. They have other good dishes too, but the burger really is to die for. Fun decoration and nice atmosphere.

Omnomnom!! Holy brisket sandwich, Batman!

By Caitlin W |

I might've just had the best brisket sandwich in my life! Ate too quickly for a photo, sorry folks! The presentation, flavor, and quality were excellent. The fries were perfectly crispy and seasoned well. Great service, great coffee. Love the tasteful taxidermy and rustic cabin vibe. Will return to try more menu items!

Great Mac and Cheese

By knobren |

We had a party of five adults eat here recently. We all enjoyed the beer and food, and it was quiet enough to converse. I had a grilled fish with a fennel sauce; it was ok. Two others raved about the mac and cheese though. One of them also got a side of grilled peppers that he also raved about. I don't recall what the others got, but we shared a couple of brownies with salted caramel ice cream that were a nice blend of salty, sweet, creamy, and chewy goodness. :-)

This place is too cool for me

By ErinCrabpot |

I went here for the chicken and waffle. I’ve had others, so I would compare them: the portion was nice and small, half a waffle and three chicken tenders. The waffle was excellent, one of the best I’ve had, but the chicken was average. It was nicely cooked. Crispy and tender, but bland. I fixed that with some hot sauce. I ordered a Bloody Mary, which was fine, again a little bland. I had cocktail envy, seeing interesting drinks on other tables. The place was full on a Saturday afternoon, but the wait wasn’t bad. The host was very gracious and the waitstaff efficient, but I felt like an old lady there at 39! I might have been the oldest patron in the house. It was very hip and the atmosphere dark. I did see one family with kids. I disagree with other reviewers that Smith is overpriced. My meal was fairly priced for Seattle, but the cocktails were handcrafted and a bit expensive.

Sub par prison slop

By John M |

Sadly this place has slipped way down. It used to be excellent with great service and tasty innovative takes on classic elevated pub dishes. Now its a pretentious and expensive bar with lousy food. We we're looking forward to trying the duck confit poutine. It was an inedible over salted cold glob of goo. Greasy and not in the way duck fat can be luscious but in a cold congealed way. The fish and chips also arrived cold. Another greasy and mushy inedible mess. We were unable to get the servers attention and after 10 minutes of waiting tried to eat it anyway. 3 more dishes arrived late and sporadically 1 evey 5 minutes or so. Each more revolting than the next. The plates stacked up with 75 % of the servings still on the plates littering the table with the remains of all the crap of which we couldn't bare to take another bite. Nobody noticed. Or cared. When we finally askef to speak to the manager We were met with a blase and unapologetic attitude that suggests that this type of thing happens all the time.. And i'm sure it does. There are literally a dozen or so restaurant serving great elevated pub grub within 2 miles of this place. Avoid this one at all cost. It's awful and no one cares. Least of all the kitchen staff who should be ashamed of sending out this Food which compares to sub par prison slop.

Nice Saturday/Sunday brunch

By clrWashngton_DC |

We had very nice brunch--roasted broccoli scramble was a very nice surprise. The smashed potatoes were nice and crispy. Nice wine list. Charlie

Great place on Capitol Hill for drinks after work

By Alec D |

I really enjoy meeting friends here after work for drinks. It's has great neighborhood feeling. The service is good as are the drinks. It can get loud when busy (so be prepared for that).

Amazing meal, start to finish

By John T |

This place nailed it tonight. Friendly prompt service that did not hover. Great apps (street corn was great). Great cocktails. Wine on tap was nice. Dinner was loved by all--younger daughter had bacon added to her mac and cheese and loved it. My brick chicken was awesome.

Fun signature cocktails

By Graham H. |

Nice atmosphere, food was ok, main dishes a little heavy. But appetizers offer variety. Darker than usual atmosphere a d seating can fill up fast.

Too Noisy For Me

By Don C |

The food was good. The service was good. It had an interesting décor and clientele. But, it was too noisy for me.

Great drinks. Bar is the best food was good as well

By Lorri T |

Loved the place, the best Margaret's hands down. Wished I lived here will tell friends that do live here to visit often.

Quirky yet tasty

By pvschmieder |

We were a relatively large group of 12 diners for brunch including family and friends, though that didn't inhibit our excellent service in which all orders were delivered hot and exactly as requested. I use the term 'quirky' for the unusual fusion of flavors they offer and yet it was all very good. Mine was the daily special country fried steak and eggs, which I ordered with a Bloody Mary and I thoroughly enjoyed it. Also, the others of our party were perfectly content with their various orders, as well. We'll go back.

Noisy and rustic

By Mats E |

Decent food but high noise level. Good beer selection. Lot of students. Rustic interior with long tables shared by many parties.

Very casual grastropub, the food is always changing and always well done

By lambs4ever |

I have tried many of their dishes and the are all good. They have a daily special which is usually outstanding and using fresh in season products. My favorite will always be their burgers. The beef is really outstanding and the rolls are also really and and unique to them.

Great bar, food less so

By Perks_on_tour |

This is a great bar with a lively vibe. It’s pretty loud and noisy so it’s not a place to drop by for a deep conversation. We had good beers from a fair list and I’d say as a drinking place it’s a solid 5 stars. However, the food side is not as successful, it feels like it’s a bit of an afterthought. On arrival a sign says seat yourself, no problem with that other than it was a while until someone came to our table. The menu didn’t really inspire and was fairly limited, the specials board just had peach and ice cream so not much inspiration there. We shared a charcuterie board so no prep required but it still took 40 mins to arrive and barely 5 mins later our mains arrived which meant no room on the fairly small table. Server didn’t assist in sorting all the various plates so we used adjacent table which was empty as our overflow. Abandoning the starter which literally had two slices of meat but a little more cheese we moved onto the mains which were fine, not great but big portions and reasonably tasty. So in conclusion, go for the bar and a snack but go elsewhere if you looking for a meal or place to have a quiet chat.

Funky Little Bit of Irony.

By Mitchell K |

It looks like any US tavern at first glance: lotsa wood, big bar, even has animal heads on the wall. But it is actually a funky little place with an eclectic menu, many great beverages and a casual, artsy ambiance. The service was...um... informal... but friendly. The food was very tasty, inexpensive and well prepared. Smallish portions. This is a fun neighborhood. - Mitch

Hipster Georgaphy Lesson

By bub2010 |

Nice restaurant, can be difficult to get a table without a reservation. We sat at the bar. Food was quite good and drinks, were very tasty cocktails. Very hipster venue! However, one massive minus, when we pointed out an error in the drinks menu listing Irish drinks such as Guinness as coming from the United Kingdom, when we pointed it out with a smile we were told they are the same place which can be very insulting to Irish people as they are two different countries (like saying an American is Canadian or visa verse). Also the manner in which this was dealt with by staff was inappropriate in that we were made to feel very stupid for bringing their own error to their attention.

Interesting heuvos rancheros

By Ellen4719 |

Met for brunch. Great Bloody Mary's. The shakshouka and chilaquiles were delicious. I would not recommend the heuvos rancheros. Although the menu said there would be chorizo the amount was overwhelming. The dish has no sauce so it was dry. It had good flavor but the dryness detracted from what it could have been. More beans, less meat would be good. Service was top notched.

Just not feeling the food love

By DSWeimar |

This was walking distance from our stay. Very cool look and feel. Nice staff and service but we were unimpressed with food overall. Tried the radish appetizer which was odd...but the bread was worth it. Zucchini balls were lacking some real flavor but they were crispy! We split the pork schnitzel and liked it but again just liked it. Nothing we ate made us wish we’d come back. Did see a guy loving his burger so maybe we made a bad selection? The ambiance was cool so we enjoyed our time talking.

Wear Stretch Pants

This was not our first visit to Smith- not will it be our last! Delish! Chicken and Waffles to die for, just enough spice to make you thirsty for some of their awesome drinks. My husband had the brisket sandwich, he said it was great. Daughter in law had the eggs Benedict, and my son had a burger- everyone was a member of the clean plate club. Atmosphere and great food- what more can you ask for- oh yeah- great service! Will be back next time we are in Seattle!

A Must-Visit in Capitol Hill

By ant_jone |

Wot - no reviews for Smith? Probably not needed as we couldn't get in on a Monday so got there really early on Tuesday, and still full by 6.30. Portions are huge - we could barely finish our mains and had to share a desert. Wine & beer selection excellent. And very tasty. Staff very friendly, and reasonably priced. There are better restaurants in the world, but not in Capitol Hill. If I lived in CH I'd live in Smith. I'd be dead by 50 but what a way to go.

Unassuming, but high quality.

By melanie l |

Have been here before as it's near my kid's home. A real gem of a place with fabulous mac and cheese, tasty burgers, fries that are addicting and not greasy, good cocktails and excellent beer selection. What's not to like?

Excellent bar food, lots of noise...

By TokyoFrenchFlyer |

Lots of different micro-brews from around the area, fine and sometimes unusual bar menu— including radix aux beurre (homemade), and, yes, excellent burger. You must, however, be either young or deaf to enjoy this experience. Especially nice, though, when the half-façade door-wall is rolled up into the roof. A kind of Western Ivy League ambiance. It might help to sit next to the sidewalk, as the street noise may be less robust than what transpires within. Capitol Hill is one America's great old sedate and unchanged neighborhoods, but more accessible than Sewickley or Oak Park.

Elegantly simple, GREAT beer selection

By JB_Wolverine |

I walk by this place every day and it is always packed. I finally walked by on a Monday night when it wasn't packed and was able to give it a try. Lovely ambiance, great beer selection (not huge, but well-considered), and pub-grub elevated to the next level.

Meh.

By Lucifur |

For a restaurant that was highly rated I was really disappointed. I had the burger. I asked for medium-well and it was rare (yuck!). Generally I'd say the burger was ok, I think the best part was the toppings and the worst part was my underdone and weirdly dry patty. The atmosphere was alright, busy with taxidermy animals on the walls..kind of unsettling while you're eating. The drinks were fine but overpriced. Generally kind of a meh experience for me. I wouldn't spend the money to go here again.

GREAT Breakfast

By Justin S |

My brother had my dad, my wife, our daughter and I at Smith for breakfast. I had the eggs sausage and potatoes. I know it sounds simple, but this really were the best potatoes and sausage I have ever had. Add to it the service was outstanding. The decor is interesting with the dead animals on the wall but I was able to look past it. We had a great time. Oh...it was reasonable.

Delicious brunch

By Luisa T |

My boyfriend and I visited this restaurant when we were in the area looking for places to eat brunch. We were not disappointed! The brunch was great (although we were slightly bummed that some menu items had ran out!) I would recommend getting here early, and trying one of the mimosa pitchers. The juice is fresh and the mimosa's hit the spot. Would definitely return.

Brunch ay Smith

By Julie M |

Great Brunch and quintessential capital Hill. Server was was friendly and attentive. Waited a little for the kitchen as it was busy but had a very nice mimosa to sip on. I did online reservation which saved us waiting 25 minutes.

Best dinner I had in Seattle!

By HEFYVic |

I took a chance on Smith's small plate menu and we ordered the zucchini fritters, the kale salad, the mac and cheese, and the mussels. All were tasty (a little too much dressing on the kale) but the mussels...were EPIC. We ordered these on a recommendation from our server and they were "the best mussels I've ever had in my life"-my husband. He never says things like that, so imagine. Great place in the capital hill area. Mid range prices.

Yum

By Jess I |

Super friendly staff and the best Mac and cheese I have ever had. The bathrooms are really cool with the old wallpaper.

Great brunch location

By Tee E |

We've had dinner and brunch here at Smith many times. The brunch experience is the best in my mind - rarely have to wait and fantastic bloody mary drinks. Make sure to check the blackboard for their specials - usually involving some sort of fritatta as well as something else (waffles, etc.) Dinner is also a good experience, but it's more standard upscale pub food. Love Smith's for brunch on the weekends. Bar and table seating available for both.

Great Watering Hole

By lizzypooUsa |

We arrive at 10 pm and the place was full!!! Friends ordered mac and cheese - which was very nice! The only negative was the noise level was so high - we could hardly hear each-other speak. But we managed to have fun!

Food was okay but not up to my expectations

By John P |

We ordered happy hour charcuterie which was tiny but enough for two people. Poutine was really good if you’re a poutine expert like my daughter is. Beef stew was too sweet, mashed potatoes were kind of bland. Trout was good and fresh. Bone in pork was good. All in all, it was a pleasant experience but probably won’t be going back.

It all depends

By ltzme |

Always looking to find a unique dining experience when I visit new places so tried Smiths for Saturday brunch. The food was nothing to rave about but good none the less. Reviewers had said it can be noisy and it was so not a place for folks to go who want to communicate the old fashion way by talking but excellent for texting etc!! Service was very friendly. Prices were on the upper end of things such as $3.25 for a cup of coffee. It's a cute trendy kind of place ... so "it all depends"...on what you are looking for next time you are in this area and are hungry!

Great burger and vibe

By julie V |

We went here for our first dinner in Seattle. We were exhausted from travel and only wanted something casual because we were having a big fancy dinner the next night. The weather was nice so the restaurant was open to the outside. The inside is dark and cozy with a long bar and a selection of booths and tables. They have a reputation for great burgers and cocktails and they didn’t let us down. 3 of us ordered burgers. My husband ordered scallops which he said were good but over-seared. The cocktails were inventive and the service friendly. Desserts were yummy too. We went on a Sunday night so it was crowded but not too. I can see how this might be packed on other days so make a reservation.

Average at best, poor, slow service.

By Dmingo |

Was excited to visit this hip restaurant on Capital hill. Several friends gave high reviews. Ambiance is hip, dark and cool. However you will have to yell to be heard while talking as the place is very loud. We were a four top with reservation seated at the mid point of dinner hour. Took the server 10 plus minutes to greet us, then 15 plus minutes to serve 2 beers and a bottle of wine. Another large gap of time goes by, 15 plus minutes again and the server approaches for our order, he was knowledgable in the menu and we ordered quickly, we asked for a single app, came to the table in 5 minutes. Was a cold app so it may have been pre-plated in the walkin in back. It was the charcuterie plate, or I should say a poor attempt at one. Pate was dry, how is that possible? The best part was the pickled veggies. It was served for 4 people with 4 small slices of bread, our server did notice and said he would bring more- 20 minutes later when we were almost done eating the app, he apologized and dropped more bread. Dinner arrived- Risotto, Burger, Grilled Pork loin, Local mussels & asparagus app combo. Everyone enjoyed their food, stated it was ok, but nothing special. My pork tenderloin with all in agreement as we shared bites was tough, dry and hard to chew. It came with spätzle, I was excited and looking forward to. The spätzle was crunchy, dry, and tough in spite of being covered in a thin sauce.... We did not see our server again until he came to clear our plates, no check back, no offer of additional beverage , but he did offer dessert, we declined as we we at the 2 and a half hour mark for dinner. We left feeling we were fed, but could not find a reason to suggest this to anyone else or return again as guests. Too many quality restaurants in Seattle to offer this type of food and service.

Great restaurant

By wellwhateverfor |

We really liked this place. The drinks were delicious, even if a couple came slowly, and the food was good - the hamburgers and lamb shank were seriously phenomenal, but the short rib shepherd pie was disappointing, should've had the poutine instead maybe.

Food was surprisingly superior to other pubfare

By J P |

Comfortable, unassuming pub - good beer, good service and not too loud so you could have a conversation, but not so quiet that you weren't sure if you were in a pub or not. Good mix of tables and booths. Great service, actually. Not just good. But the Cuban Sandwich was a hella fab surprise. That damn sandwich was TASTY. And made with surprisingly excellent ingredients! Totally underestimated the potential quality of the food. It is good. At least, the cuban and the yam fries were. Definitely recommend this spot.

Great place for food, beer and hipsters

By TorChula |

Food is consistently good, although there are a few odd choices too. The burgers are amazing, best I've found in Seattle. Always a good selection of draft and bottled beers. And it's a very entertaining place for people watching.

Good American Food

By sally j |

Smith Restaurant is great, the atmosphere is good, with friendly staff, the food is very good, and presented well, i had steak, fries and salad, my husband had burger, fries and salad. Not a cheap place to eat, but worth the money.

Good peeps.

By CocoaJ4life |

Dropped in for just a beer. They were awesome and attentive. I've been here years back and I really liked the vibe. They don't dissapoint. If you are a Seattllite that live in the area, you're slippin if you haven't been here. Just sayin.

Bully to 5-year old

By Leah Deveau A |

I went to the Smith to meet up with friends who I only get to see every few years. This time I had my 5-year-old son, whom everyone was meeting for the first time. I came prepared to be able to chat with lifelong friends and brought an iPad, puzzle, sensory toys, and coloring book to occupy my son during this "adult time." The waitress was very rude towards my son, assuming he was privileged and getting in his face when he wouldn't respond due to his shyness. She cursed in front of him and even took some of his toys without asking and put them on the bar. I don't know what she was trying to prove, but she ruined my experience and was very judgmental during what should have been a light and easy brunch. She went out of her way to tease him and thought she had wit. Not at all. Not to mention, two of us asked for a sparkling rose, she said they had it and when brought to us there were no bubbles at all. She was just talking to talk! She missed the mark and my son didn't deserve the treatment!

Yum yum yum

By David G |

Been here a number of times in the past but never at 4pm on a Sunday (open 4-close on weekdays). Generally a loud and busy place in the evening we were surprised to be able to hear each talk...not a negative just represents Smith's popularity on weekends. Great brunch menu but ordered off Happy Hour menu...poutine with brisket is great as was my beet salad. My wife's burger was a bit under the medium requested but nothing was left on her plate.

Excellent

By travelforfun2009 |

A great local place we visited for brunch. The rustic interior with pictures of presidents on the wall fits well into this restaurant. Smith is known for their chicken and waffles, burgers, mimosas and everything brunch. The service was excellent, the chicken and waffles were savory and sweet and the mimosas hit the spot. I had Egg Benedict, which was prepared perfectly and the hollandaise sauce was fantastic. My wife had the burger that was tender and delicious.

This Is Now Our Favorite Restaurant On Capitol Hill!

By AreWeHavingFunYet |

We were Christmas shopping in Seattle and took our son and daughter-in-law to dinner. They live on Capitol Hill, so we walked to Smith. Everything was great. The decor is awesome (all from salvaged and repurposed materials). It's dark woods, eclectic, and has a very warm and welcoming feel. We particularly liked the collection of oil portraits on the wall. Service was excellent and friendly. And the food, fantastic! I had the best macaroni and cheese ever! The others had the pickle-brined chicken, leg of lamb, and mussels. There is a great variety of beers on tap. We had a great evening with great service, atmosphere, food, and drinks. We'll be back!

ABSOLUTELY delicious brunch

By Winston H |

If they ask you to upgrade your scramble or hash with some salmon, definitely do it! Interesting atmosphere, incredibly food, wish my stomach was bigger.

off the beaten path, but worth it

By gwyn923 |

A fun way to experience Capitol Hill. We walked from our hotel, got lost, and they were very nice even after giving away the table. Highlight was the steak tartare.

Incredibly delicious, a bit slow on service

By Kellum T |

Although it took a while for us to be seated—they seemed a bit short-staffed and the hostess was running water around as well—we had a wonderful time. The drinks were really classy and a touch whimsical; we had zucchini fritters and mushroom risotto and a seafood dish and we're just blown away. We'd love to come back on a quieter night and sit at the bar and watch the bartenders do their magic! Great restaurant and bar.

Best mussles I have ever had

By Anna C |

atmosphere is very Seattle, kinda dark, servers with facial piercings and colored hair.... I was very impressed with the menu. The mussles with tomato, saffron, and fennel were the best I have ever had. The menu was kind of small but everything looked really good. I noticed they mixed a few classics in such as chicken pot pie and a burger with their creative dishes. The asparagus was also amazing....also one of the best I have ever had.I thought the price were reasonable too.

Great Happy Hour Drinks

By Shaleen D |

My husband initially came here to hopefully be able to try the Pappy 20 year that was available to the first 40 customers. Unfortunately, he was only able to try the 12 year. We just decided to stay through happy hour and have dinner. I am a big champagne cocktail fan, so to find a champagne cocktail for only $5 on happy hour was amazing! They were made perfectly too. They also have an old fashioned cocktail on happy hour for $5, which we did not try. My husband had the pork poutine. He loved all the great flavors in the dish. For dinner we both ordered the chicken pot pie. I really liked the pot pie because it was very light - no heavy cream sauces here! You could tell they used fresh chicken and vegetables. I will definitely be back, especially for the $5 happy hour champagne cocktails!

Awesome little neighborhood bar...

Great beer selection, always a cider or two on tap, and a couple more ciders in the jar available on the menu. Craft cocktails if you want them... decent food at reasonable prices. Unusual beers in jar or cans that don't make an appearance in most bars. Happy hour from 4p - 6p, and again from 11p - 1a. The house made charcuterie was pretty good - when we went, we had the pork rilettes, but they also had duck liver pate available. Grilled sweet peppers - decent. Mac and Cheese - pretty good. Be forewarned - this is one of Linda Derschang's venues. Since Trip Advisor won't let me post a link to the Seattle Time article, you're stuck having to search for it yourself. The downside: it can be a little loud. The wood panelling reflects the sound and seems to amplify it. If you can handle the volume, the venue is comfortable. If you can't handle the volume, it could be unpleasant...

Best Burgers

By Beth |

Best Burgers ever! We eat at the Smith every time we are in Seattle, sometimes more than once. Burgers are awesome, Mac and Cheese is awesome, fries, well, everything is just great! Next time I want to try the ribs, well, I always say that, but I will get the burger anyway!

Great food surrounded by dead animals?

By Shane K |

The service is top notch. The food and cocktails are surprisingly good. The decor is sort of hipster hunting lodge, which just seemed to be trying way too hard. You might look at the room and the food prices and scoff, but the food is actually worth it. Nothing we had was anything less than great. The masala mule is a great take on a classic cocktail too!

Scrumptious brunch

By ThomasR312 |

First time @ Smith, no disappointments at all. Started off with balanced Cafe Vita (no lattes available, but brunch 'tail options clearly available. Service friendly and efficient, and the vibe was good - full house, people eating, talking, but not crazy loud. Good mix of peoples. Had the breakfast veggie hash with poached egg - an excellent mix of mostly winter-type veggies in a cast iron skillet, topped with a nice poached egg. Presentation pretty, taste even better - warm and well caramelized but not charred. Side of super-juicy and tasty house-made sausage well worth it, especially if splitting with friends; ditto the fries - salty crunchy hot and yummy! Would love to go for dinner or poutine at some point, but what a great way to start your weekend!

Brunch Was Fantastic

By Wapiti H |

All three of us had the chicken and waffles. It was wonderful and the coffee was very good as well. We sat at the bar as the wait was over half an hour on Saturday morning. It is definitely worth the wait. Great local atmosphere as well.

Good cheeseburgers

By TheKays |

We visited for Sunday brunch. Were expecting a more extensive menu, but we made do. One person had a pretty decent cheese burger; one person had the brisket sandwich, which was very good; and one person chose very wisely, ordering the eggs benedict. We also ordered two Bloody Marys, which were watery and non-spectacular. Had we ordered beers, it would've been a better meal. The cheeseburger was $14, the brisket sandwich was $12, and the Eggs Benedict was $11.

Ice Neighborhood Pub

By Diana d |

We used a local guide to find this place for our first night in town. It was within three blocks of our AirB&B. The decor was unusually interesting.the service was friendly and informative and the food was great...well prepared fish and chips, beef dip sandwich, and your choice of fries or salad. A nice selection of wines, local brews and hard liquors.

"Rustic pub food" surprises and delights at Smith

By MLBplant |

Smith is a wonderfully imagined restaurant located in the Capitol Hill neighborhood of Seattle. I'd heard about it through artists and artisans, and all I knew was that most every item in the interior had been recycled from somewhere else. And that there were a number of taxidermy items hanging on the wall. And that they had a great beer selection. I chose this place to take my 20-something son to dinner on a Saturday night. It was great. The minute we entered, my son Nate commented how cool the place looked, then asked if we could sit at the bar for dinner and away we went. The bartender was friendly and fun, knowledgeable and professional. He and Nate got along great, sharing many of the same references and in-jokes. Nate's special manhattan turned out to be quite a drink......making me glad I was driving. The Smith Burger is every young man's dream - made with 1/2 lb of excellent quality beef, cheese and bacon -- cooked to perfection. The bun was soft and tasty, the fries delicious, salty and perfect. It made me want a burger, too! My short rib, served with crisp mustard spaetzle and freshly grated red cabbage cole slaw, truly melted in my mouth. I did not expect such wonderful food in a place that touts its offerings as "rustic pub food." The decor is interesting, the crowd is a 20s-30s group with a sprinking of older. Everybody seemed comfortable - and all looked to be really enjoying themselves. We struck up short conversations at the bar with folks next to us who were happy to talk about the place, how they liked their food, and were friendly. Big tables allow for families and parties to assemble with ease. Reservations for large groups ensure seating. It was fun to look around the room and think about where all those taxidermy items may have come from....they are all rather whimsically grouped on the walls. A collection of portraits on another wall evokes a feeling of some weird family collection. This place has been put together with great style and imagination. The decor is quirky, comfortable and fun. The service is excellent and the food is simply outstanding.

Good food and drink, good vibe

By Beth S |

This is a really cool place to hang out. The food was good, and the drinks were great (and strong). It was Friday night when we visited, and the place was buzzing, but not too busy. If we're ever back in Seattle we would visit again.

Brunch

By summerfunteacher |

Had eggs Benedict which was delish. Potatoes were good but couldn't finish them. Service could have been a wee bit more attentive. Tea drinkers, it is a very, very tiny pot and water was hot but not for long. Everyone was friendly but I wonder how often they evaluate the promptness of serving. Love the space and location though with one hour parking outside, watch your time!

Always something yummy on the menu!

By gajanshe |

Smith a busy, fun, and eclectic decor location where you can always find something great to eat. This is a bar/food/pub style of restaurant with an imaginative chef. They always have interesting specials and a basic menu to cover all tastes. I have never been disappointed! It’s worth a visit for the food alone but the atmosphere just puts the finishing touch to your evening!

Perfect Evening

By hepalien98008 |

This was a first visit for everyone in our group of 8. I am constantly on the lookout for new places to try in Seattle. SMITH did not disappoint. They take reservations for large parties with seating at Farm Style tables. We arrived a few minutes before 6pm Happy Hour was still going on. I had a perfectly executed Old Fashioned for only $5. I still find it hard to believe people can make bad old fashioneds but let me assure you they do. Cheers to Smith for getting it right! Prices for the entire evening were a real value. Nothing on the menu was more than $18. The group shared multiple items from the appetizer menu. The Scotch egg was a real winner. I had the brined pork chop with succotash. The pork was tender and the fresh corn, tomatoes and green beans in my succotash were packed with flavor. My friends love food and several are excellent cooks in their own rite. No one was disappointed with anything. Our waiter Doug was a superb host and had he not been working we would have invited him to join us. Parking wasn't even an issue on a Saturday night. I will be back!

No pretentious food found here!

By Bradley1965 |

This is one hell of a rustic, gastro, hipster, pub, kinda cool place baby! I love coming here for the great food nonchalant attitude towards being politically correct. The menu is small (I like that) but well thought out and really tasty. Today was a great brunch day...I love brunch! I enjoyed the French toast brioche, eggs, house made sausage, smashed potatoes, whole wheat bread, smoked brisket sandwich, fries. All wonderful...the French toast brioche was delightful, grilled perfectly. All meal segments will knock your socks off, just simple well executed food that makes you smile and your tummy happy. I love a place that is true to itself. Take the pretentious out of the dining experience and you will find a restaurant named Smith, rock on!

Solid signature burger...

By FlyHigh1010 |

Looks like Dicks isn’t the only place to get a burger on Capital hill! Always good. Staff friendly. They do a really good job on their signature burger! Hanger steak (medium rare) always a solid choice too

Wonderful restaurant

My son took me to one of his favorite restaurants in Seattle, Smith. Amazing drinks like a Mule made with Chai infused vodka! And the food was wonderful, very tasty, & good portions. Authentic poutine is a highlight! Will be fun to try again sometime.

Nice choice on Capitol Hill

By alexn837 |

We had brunch at Smith's on the day we visited Capitol Hill. There are quite a few places on the main road but we chose this one based on the "looks". However, we were not disappointed as everything was overall fine. The place looks pretty much as a pub back in England but it gives you the extra American feeling which we didn't get a lot in other dining places in Seattle. The decoration was nice (although you feel all these faces in the portraits watch you). Food was good and my steak was nicely cooked but portions are quite small and you might still feel hungry unless you order some extras. I ordered some grilled bread which was more burnt rather grilled. Sorry guys, you got that wrong. I enjoyed the orange cream soda. Thanks for the suggestion. So, if it happens you are in Capitol Hill you should give Smith a go.

Go with the Burgers.

Five of us ate here for lunch; four ordered the burgers and were very happy. One ordered a special fo the day: Veggie Hash. She was not so happy.

Good, not great

By Deb S |

Good, but not great. Small menu selection with unusual pairings. Service was friendly, but very slow and they weren't that busy. The trout is bone-in. Others at the table raved about the burgers. Dinner for three, $100 including tip.

Tasty food, poor service to avoid

By samunson |

I used to like Smith. They had tasty bar food (standouts included their salads, burger, and poutine) with good cocktails and decent beers on tap. They have good happy hours and late night options. Unfortunately, service has declined to the point that it is no longer worth visiting, even though it is one of the closest restaurants to home. While service has generally been getting slower and less attentive, two experiences over the last few months stand out: - Friends and I got attitude from a waiter for hanging out and slowly sipping drinks while waiting an hour or so to order food -- something I would understand if the restaurant were full, but it it was half empty. - waited 5 minutes to be seated while watching staff chat casually in the back, followed by 25 minutes of watching two employees continue to chat while the other buzzed around other tables. After attempting to flag them down, we left without ordering. After the last instance, we've decided to stop visiting for at least a while. I suggest you do the same.

Chill place for dinner

By Annette F |

On our daughter's recommendation. It is a largish, yet cozy restaurant. She recommended the marrow bones - which she and my husband enjoyed. I know this is trendy, but it's still eating fat for me. He had the duck confit. She had the pork chop. For me, the mussels appetizer was enough for dinner. They were just right for a cold evening. This was the second restaurant where the Brussels sprouts were undercooked. This vege is being transformed into the glamorous green of the year, but they should not be served par-boiled and called cooked. The service was great, very attentive considering the place was pretty full

dinner

By andria |

We dined in Smith on a Thursday evening and the place was almost full. The interior is cosy and warm, and resembles british pubs. We shared a couple of starters and also got a main each. We started with the tomato panzanella and the asparagus. The panzanella was lovely until we stumbled upon the tomato stickers (the ones that advertise the brand of the tomato).. inside the salad.. As soon as we realised that they hadn’t removed them, we let the waitress know who she quickly replaced the dish with newly made one (which we paid). Throughout the different places I’ve dined all these years, this was a first. The asparagus were good though. For mains we had the chicken and the schnitzel. The chicken was a disappointment as it was full of fat and undercooked. However, my partner did enjoy his schnitzel. All in all, we found Smith’s to be a charming place to enjoy a couple of drinks, but the dinning experience to be a complete disaster.

Great place for brunch

We got there just by chance and it was wonderful. Great place for my keto diet Service was fast even if the place was packed, and the coffee is very good
