Passing through Dallas on a road trip, my wife and I wanted some good barbecue and chose Smokey Joe’s from TripAdvisor reviews. Smokey Joe’s is what you might call a “whole-in-the-wall,” as it provides a bare minimum of a dining room and no wait service. But the food is outstanding and the portions very generous. You order your food at a walk-up window and await its delivery in brown paper bags and styrofoam containers at the same window. When we were there, there was a steady stream of traffic into the establishment and most customers were taking their food out. We ate-in on the picnic benches which we understood were a recent accommodation. We had plates of ribs and brisket with two sides each and were absolutely stuffed. Sauce was served “on the side” in a very generous amount. The beans (more like a chili, as it was loaded with ground beef), mac n’ cheese and potato salad were excellent sides. A few bottled beers are available, but nothing extensive (there is no bar). They clearly have a loyal customer base and you may count us as fans.

Smokey,s is the real deal I stop there every time I’m in town from Louisiana. The prices are reasonable and the portions are good. The ribs are awesome 👏🏾 and the brisket is very tender and moist, I would highly recommend Smokey Joe’s Bbq in Dallas, Texas

Great Texas BBQ. We brought a large group of people and they served us quickly. The brisket was moist with a nice crust. Macaroni and cheese was amazing.

I'm from Dallas and I always go to Smokey Joe's. Take it from one of the locals who live in Dallas. I have eaten Bar-B-Que all throughout my city and the is the best! Hands Down! No Exceptions! They have a Loaded Beef and a Loaded Link Baked Potato. You can't find a baked potato anywhere else quite like this. No Disappointments. The family also often order their short-end rib and chopped beef sandwiches. We also get their buttermilk pie for desert. They just recently added banana pudding on the weekends and I can't wait to taste it. The Best Bar-B-Que. I eat here all of the time and I always bring out-of-towners here. FYI: This is NOT a sit down restaurant...This is a grab and go.

Went here whilst visiting Dallas which was close to the main tourist attractions in the city. Food was very good and also very good value. Service of staff was very good also. Would come back if visiting Dallas again.

Very much enjoyed our meal here today. And the young lady taking orders could not have been nicer helping us with info to make our decisions. A couple of things to be aware of before you go. There are numerous images and details about their menu out there-Google, etc.-that are not accurate. They are no longer offering meat+sides plates or mixed meat pounds or half pounds. Or mixed meat sandwiches from what I saw. Everything sold separately. Also, daily specials have changed and on Fri. & Sat. they are offering a separate menu of sides including cucumber salad, corn bread, plus others. Sorry I didn’t take note of all of these. All that being said, the food we ordered was very good with small things bringing the rating down. We ordered the following: Half pound moist brisket Pork spareribs-more on this later One Texas link Cucumber salad Potato salad One cornbread All this came with homemade pickles, pickled onions, raw onions, white bread, and sliced jalapenos. A crazy amount of food. The brisket was a generous half pound of beautiful moist beef with a close to perfect peppery bark. Light smoke ring but top notch smoky flavor. But the meat definitely could have been more tender as it needed a bit of chewing to enjoy. Took away from the enjoyment a bit but only slowed us down a little. The sweetish sauce didn't really enhance the beef much. But that was not the case with the pork ribs. This sauce and pork combo was one of the best I can remember enjoying in a long time. No leftovers on these. Tender, moist, full pink smoke ring and excellent pull. Not overly falling off the bone. Outstanding. A note on the ribs-while the menu lists s price for a half pound they only sell them by the pound. I let the counter person know this would be too much and she let me know that if I ordered the rib sandwich-with the meat set apart from the bread, it would be a smaller portion. What we got was three lovely ribs and a couple extra slices of white bread. Anyway these ribs were the best thing we ate here. The link was small but well made and had good snap and a nice peppery flavor. Enjoyable. The sides were a bit of a miss IMO. The wife liked the potato salad as she loves pickled/vinegary things but I thought it tasted like mashed potatoes with mustard and pickle juice mixed in. I enjoy a much chunkier salad. The cucumber salad was slices of cucumber and chopped tomatoes drowning in what tasted like an Italian type dressing. Veggies were decently crisp but the dressing was overwhelming. Needs to be drained a bit before serving. The cornbread muffin was nice and fresh but not very light. A bit dense for my taste. Could have used a bit of butter or honey which I chose not to ask for since the counter was very busy. All this plus one drink came to just over $50 before tip. Pretty spendy but the food world is a bit out of whack all over due to supply reasons, etc. Another example-one beef rib here costs just over $30. They know what they are doing here and this is a really good choice for some really good Texas barbecue. Recommended.

I was in the area with some friends when we were looking for a place to eat. I suggested finding a BBQ place and Smokey Joe's Bar-b-Que came up as the closest. It had good reviews so we made our way over. This part of the review is subjective to personal preference, so your experience might be different. Smokey Joe's Bar-b-Que is definitely a local eatery which is good, a few picnic type tables for eating in but mostly it is for take-out. I ordered the ribs with mac'n'cheese and potato salad sides. The mac'n'cheese was really good but "here is the subjective part" the potato salad was loaded with sugar and the BBQ sauce was not very flavorful, no other sauce options were provided. Half of my rib order was on the bone and the other were rib cartilage ends. Some might like gnawing on cartilage, I don't. All in all, the food was OK, I just think I will try another place next time.

Went to Smokey Joe's after a funeral across the street and the BBQ itself is out of this world. It is take out only but well worth it. I didn't care for the Banana Pudding, but then I compare it to my grandmother's and that is hard to do. The potato salad was good for a creamy potato salad. Will definitely be going back. Highly recommend this place.

Visited the facility on my way headed to the airport and was very impressed. I will visit again when in Dallas.

Smokey Joes is take out. We stopped after a meeting and got brisket and rib sandwiches, baked beans, banana pudding, and buttermilk pie. Kitchen staff/cooks were super friendly and food was reasonable and delicious!! Glad we stumbled onto this place! We will definitely return and recommend to others!!
BEST BBQ I'VE EVER HAD!
I had the ribs with fat, sausage, and chopped beef brisket. The ribs were the absolute best I've had. By a long shot! This place is a modest location with very nice employees.
